Muslim woman rips up Israeli flag at Brussels makeshift memorial
Perpetrated by Muslim men, supported by Muslim women.
A French-language television station captured footage of a woman wearing a hijab ripping up an Israeli flag at a makeshift memorial for the victims of Tuesday’s bombings in Brussels.

The images were captured by the RTL television network and disseminated on the web and social media.

The incident took place at the vigil that was set up in the central Brussels landmark Place de la Bourse.

In the clip, the woman is seen sifting through the flags that were lining the pavement. After lifting a Palestinian flag, she then spots an Israeli flag and begins tearing it up. She then buries the ripped shards underneath other flags.

Remains of US troops killed in N. Korea lost in political limbo
[AP] RYONGYON-RI, North Korea -- The village elder put his shovel aside, stooped down by a scraggly bush and pulled a sack from the freshly turned dirt. Spreading open the sack, he reached in to reveal femurs, skull and jaw fragments, boots and a rusted green helmet.

"These are your American GIs," Song Hong Ik said at a burial mound near the top of a small hill.

Perhaps they are. But for more than a decade, no one has been trying to find out.

"Until They Are Home" is one of the most sacred vows of the U.S. military, yet Washington has long suspended efforts to look for 5,300 American GIs missing in North Korea whose remains are potentially recoverable. The countries' abysmal relations suggest that no restart is coming soon.

In the meantime, possible remains and recovery sites are being lost as North Korea works to improve its infrastructure with projects such as the Chongchon River No. 10 Hydroelectric Power Station. The bones Song revealed came from that project's construction site.

His village, the hamlet of Ryongyon-ri, is nestled among low rolling hills in the heart of a Korean War battleground about 150 kilometers (almost 100 miles) north of Pyongyang. The 90-minute drive from the capital runs through mostly flat land covered by rice paddies or fields of corn and potatoes. The scene is quietly rustic. Farmers use oxcarts to transport produce and villagers can be seen walking in the distance on narrow dirt roads.

Perhaps Vladimir Zhirinovsky and Obama have parallel views on Euro terrorism
[Newsweek] Attacks on European countries are beneficial for Russia, the leader of the nationalist Liberal Democrat party told Russian state television on Tuesday night.

Vladimir Zhirinovsky, known for his anti-Western views, spoke on the popular panel show "An Evening with Vladimir Solovyev" hours after blasts killed at least 31 people in Brussels. In his trademark bombastic style, the former deputy speaker of parliament took the floor and urged Russians not to express sympathy for the victims.

"Terrorists attacks are happening in Europe and they will spread all over it," Zhirinovsky shouted at other panelists. "That is beneficial for us. Let them perish and die."

Zhirinovsky’s rationale was that after such attacks European countries would see Russia as an ally and align themselves with Moscow. “Let them then come to us and beg us,” Zhirinovsky said.

Flight Attendant Who Left Suitcases Full Of Coke At Airport Turns Herself In
The flight attendant who dropped two suitcases full of cocaine at Los Angeles International Airport -- along with her Gucci shoes -- before fleeing in panic turned herself in to authorities in New York on Wednesday, sources said.

Marsha Gay Reynolds was arrested by Drug Enforcement Administration agents, sources said.

The JetBlue flight attendant, a former beauty pageant contestant, was randomly stopped last Friday at a checkpoint for airline workers. She kicked off her Gucci heels, dropped the drugs and bolted, according to sources.

She then boarded a flight to New York and went to her Queens apartment before holing up in the Hilton Hotel near JFK Airport, the sources said.

The nearly 70 pounds of cocaine found stashed in her suitcases was estimated to be worth $2 million.

During the LAX incident, Reynolds was escorted to the front of the screening area and apparently became alarmed when she realized she'd be caught.

After walking about 15 feet with her carry-on bags, the former NYU track star threw them down and made a run for it, leaving behind the dope.

"She kicked her high heels off and left her shoes and bag behind," said Marshall McClain of the Los Angeles Airport Peace Officers Association.

"She knew if she dropped both of them, she'd be able to run away more quickly," he explained.
She could probably walk and get away from most of them.
"She was then able to high-foot it out of the terminal, down an Los Angeles on Wednesday.

In her bags, TSA agents found clothes, Trojan Magnum condoms and 68.49 pounds of cocaine wrapped in green saran wrap and labeled "BIG Ranch," cops said.

She also left behind her leather, size-8½ Gucci shoes.

But because TSA agents did not get her name, Reynolds may have been able to board her red-eye flight to LaGuardia on Friday night. After being apprehended in New York, she was charged in a criminal complaint filed in Los Angeles on Wednesday.

Reynolds is listed as a member of NYU's 2004 women's track and field team, according to the school's website.
That may come in handy depending on who's chasing her in the prison exercise yard.
She was also a runner-up in the 2007 Miss Jamaica Universe pageant, according to the Jamaica Gleaner.
Aaaand that'll probably make her popular in the jailhouse boom-boom room.
Reynolds was awaiting arraignment at Brooklyn federal court on Wednesday night.

This Detail About How The Suspected Brussels Suicide Bombers Wore Their Gloves Might Have Been A Giveaway
The Belgian prosecutor's office has confirmed that the three men in this CCTV footage are suspects in the investigation of the Brussels attacks.

And this picture reveals an important detail that might have given them away.

The two men dressed in black are believed to have carried out the suicide bombings. They are wearing only one glove on their left hand.
Big Michal Jackson fans maybe?
According to the Belgian news site La Libre, the single glove could have helped them hide a detonator. A security expert also told Sky News that the matching gloves could be a clue about which device was used.

The man in white on the right is suspected of being an attacker and is being actively sought by the police. He was named on Wednesday morning as Najim Laachraoui.

In addition to wearing a different colour scheme, Laachraoui does not seem to be wearing a glove. It is not clear whether the fact that all three chose to use luggage carts is significant. It is unclear whether there were explosives on those trolleys. An unexploded suicide vest and a Kalashnikov were also found at the airport.

The attacks on the Belgian capital on Tuesday killed at least 30 people and left hundreds more injured. Two explosions ripped through the Zaventem Airport, and another explosion rocked the Maelbeek metro station in the centre of Brussels.

#1  So in the future we'll have (a) no carryons and no bags at all in the terminal (b) Bags will have to be checked at a decent distance from the terminal and after being checked they will be subjected to shake tests to see if they explode.

The Jihadist response will be to put explosives in Baby carts.

On and on until our society is dismantled or our leaders wake up.

Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic convicted of Srebrenica genocide, war crimes
Radovan Karadzic, the Serbs' leader in Bosnia during the 1990s civil war, has been found responsible for genocide in Srebrenica as well as crimes against humanity and war crimes, a U.N. war crimes tribunal announced Thursday. He will be sentenced to 40 years in prison, RT News reports.
Carla del Ponte finally wins one! And we'll never hear the end of it...
In all, Karadzic has been indicted for two counts of genocide, five counts of crimes against humanity, and four counts of violations of the laws of war as president of Republika Srpska.

The International Criminal Court Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia did not, however, find evidence of Serbian forces' "genocidal intent" during the war in Bosnia, CNN reports.

Karadzic, 70, who has been nicknamed the "Butcher of Bosnia," faced 11 counts of war crimes. He was allegedly behind the siege of Sarajevo, which left 11,000 dead, as well as the Srebrenica massacre, which took the lives of nearly 8,000 Muslim boys and men and was the worst mass killing in Europe since the Holocaust.

Karadzic went into hiding in 1996, only to be discovered 12 years later heavily disguised in Belgrade, assuming a false identity as a "healer." He was extradited to the Hague and pleaded not guilty. His trial, which came to an end in 2014, lasted 500 days, and included evidence from 586 witnesses.

Brussels Bomber Left Frantic Will In Trash Can: 'I don't know what to do'
A hastily written will by one of the suspected Brussels bombers has given some insight into the lives the extremists were living before their devastating attacks on Brussels' airport and a metro station on Tuesday, Newsweek reports.

The will was discovered on attacker Ibrahim el-Bakraoui's computer in a trash can in Brussels. "I don't know what to do, hunted everywhere, no longer safe," the note said, according to Federal Prosecutor Frederic Van Leeuw.
You know, if your human side is whispering hints like this to you, you should try something different.
The will also expressed fear for Salah Abdeslam, the Paris attacker who was captured in Brussels last Friday. "I don't want to end up in a cell next to him," Bakraoui said in his note.

Ibrahim el-Bakraoui's brother, Khalid el-Bakraoui, was also one of the attackers in Tuesday's bombings. A third attacker, who has been identified as Najim Laachraoui, is said to be on the run.

The two explosions at Zaventem airport, plus a third at a metro station, killed at least 31 people and wounded about 270 others. ISIS has claimed responsibility for the attack.

I encourage anyone who can read these words and has the agency to effect change, put up a suicide bomber hotline ad in the subway station your children use, and on the internet where little miss jihad can find it. Let every abu'jihad call in and ask for help rather than not.

Based on this report from the field, we can create an environment where their agents become our agents. And we should.

12-year-old Florida girl charged after allegedly pinching boy's butt in school
A 12-year-old girl was arrested and booked into juvenile detention after she allegedly pinched a boy’s butt in school during what she described as a popular game at her Florida school.

The girl is facing misdemeanor battery charges after the incident at Milwee Middle School, which is outside Orlando, and was reportedly read her Miranda Rights, put in the back of a patrol car and later charged.

"Lord, lord, lordy. . . what has this world come to?" asked the girl’s father, whose first name is Ray. "Kids can’t even be kids, and that’s basically what it is. She’s 12 years old, she was acting like a 12-year-old child." Fox News typically neither names minors charged with crimes, nor reveals the last names of their parents, to fully protect the identities.

The boy’s mother apparently disagrees, ClickOrlando.com reported. The boy reportedly told the school’s resource deputy that he did not want to press any charges. The accused, who said she didn’t know the boy, was suspended. The boy’s mother, however, asked that the girl be prosecuted for battery.

"I regret it," the girl reportedly said in an interview. "I didn’t know it’ll lead to this."

Authorities said the pinching incident occurred in March. KABC reported that the state attorney said the charge will be dismissed once the girl completes a diversion program that includes community service and a drug test.

The girl's father offered some parenting advice to the boy’s mother.

"I’m sorry my kid touched your kid. But I’m sorry because you need some help, I think -- too overprotective -- let your kid be your kid. He might get some friends, and that’s all I have to say."

Pentagon: The Latest F-35 Problem Will Delay The Program Another Year
Radar software being tested for the F-35 stealth fighter jet made by Lockheed Martin Corp is not stable enough, Pentagon officials said in a written statement at a U.S. House Armed Services Committee hearing on Wednesday.

The issue caused sensors to restart once every four hours of flying due to the timing of software messages from the sensors to the main F-35 fusion computer and the aim was to improve this to one in every eight to 10 flying hours, the statement said.

Michael Gilmore, the Pentagon's chief weapons tester, said the program would not be ready for operational testing until mid-2018, a year later than expected, due to delays in completion of the jet's software and other issues. He said more than 300 planes would have been produced by the end of fiscal 2017, when that testing is now due to start.

The software during flight test was not as stable as it needed to be, according to the statement by Sean Stackley, assistant secretary of the U.S. Navy, and Air Force Lieutenant General Christopher Bogdan, in charge of the F-35 program.

"We will be flight testing these fixes in the March-April timeframe," the statement said, adding that in testing the F-35C variant, cracking in part of the wing was found after a certain number of flying hours and efforts were being made to fix this.

#3  I've become bored with the subject, I'm afraid. To summarize what I have read in these pages: Some people love the idea, some hate it. It is behind schedule, over budget, burdened by too many bells and whistles, and takes funding from a variety of other platforms some people prefer for a variety of reasons. Further delays and cost overages are highly likely, but some of the improvements are in the meantime being put into the next iteration of the current thing in use as well as retrofitted onto those machines currently flying, so the pilots are getting some benefit from it, despite not having got any of the thing itself.

Did I miss anything?

#7  TW, I think that sums up the F-35 Lightning Bug quite neatly.
Posted by: swksvolFF || 03/24/2016 20:27 Comments || Top||

#8  tw, if you think about the airplane, then you have it about right. And it is boring. However, if you think about this as an international competition like the Olympics or soccer, it is much more interesting.

Our team has built 3 different version of this plane. They all fly, they are kind of expensive, but not more than the planes we have been using since the 70's. It is pretty good at most things, really good a some. All of our allies are going to buy a bunch of them, reducing our costs over time. And we are planning to build thousands of these things.

Next the Russian team is building the T-35. They have only flown test flights. If they can work out the bugs, it will be really good at some things and terrible at others. They can't afford to make very many, and almost no one else in the world wants to buy one. Even if they get a hundred of these some day, they will be hopelessly outnumbered.

Then there is the Chinese team. They are building prototypes of stuff they copied from the internet. It barely flys, and their engines are terrible. No one wants them. So, the Chinese are buying the Russian stuff and trying to fit it out with Israeli upgrades to sort of get a few planes that can hope to fight for a few days.

The European's don't have a team, except for the Swedes, who are just now getting to where we were 25 years ago.

The Israeli's are on our team.

Everyone else is watching on TV.

So, yes the F-35 is not an airplane that will make anyone excited. But it will overwhelm everyone else.

#11  BC, the plane flies fine. And the radar works fine for a few hours. How long is a mission for this plane? A few hours, and then it is out of gas and lands.

Is this a problem? Well with air refueling it could be. So we are going to fix it.

Is this a problem in real missions? No, not really.

'Just words': Cubans applaud Obama visit, but see little change
After the heady excitement of seeing President Barack Obama shatter decades of US-Cuba hostility, Cubans woke up Wednesday wondering how much will really change on the communist island.

The climax of Obama's trip was a speech Tuesday in which his oratorical skills were on full display, urging Cubans to embrace democracy and vowing that the United States will drop its punishing economic embargo, even if that decision has to come from the more hawkish Congress.

The cheers for Obama in Havana's Gran Teatro showed how far the visit -- the first by any US president in 88 years -- has shifted Washington's old policy of treating Cuba like enemy territory. And while all-powerful President Raul Castro seemed less than happy, listening stone-faced, he had let the speech go ahead live on state television.

But after the euphoria came something of a hangover for Cubans who say there will be no easy answers.

"We appreciate his good intentions. He's a man who talks very well, but at the end of the day they're just words," said retiree Estrella Mora, 61. "Another thing is reality: Obama came and went, but the embargo is still there."

Cley Poll Betacourt, 41, praised Obama's speech and visit. "He said things as they are."

The problem, Betacourt said, "is that he wants to achieve very quickly things that will take years. We need time to change things here."

Betacourt said Cubans are not ready for radical political change and that reform of the country -- ruled by one party and with a sclerotic economy -- should come from within. "We are fine with our president. We listen to what he says, because he wants the best for us. We don't need anything else."

- Thinking for themselves -

Those who have experienced the hard end of Castro's rule cautioned that Obama -- however spectacular his visit -- has only limited power.

"I think the government will not listen to Obama's words on political change," said Mirian Leiva, a former member of the Ladies in White dissidents group. "I think these ideas of his were aimed at the population and that anything further is up to Cubans themselves."

And former political prisoner Jose Daniel Ferrer, 75, said Cubans will have trouble following through on Obama's call for them to build their own future.

He said Cubans are used to having a "paternalistic" figure "who will resolve all the problems, with everyone else like children who need being taken in hand and are waiting for a pope or a US leader."

That mentality, he said, is gradually easing but Cubans need to understand that "we are the ones with the main role for changing Cuba."

Certainly the state media have been quick to reinterpret Obama's speech for the population, warning that Obama's slickness could not be trusted.

"Obama's visit to Cuba was a masterclass in political marketing that we Cubans are not used to," state television commented.

"Maybe there won't be another US president for another 88 years. What will be more important is what happens and what happens depends not on what (Obama) thinks, but on the plans of an elite that he must now represent."

Terrorism seems to be a distraction from President Obama’s life of being a celebrity. He wants to be hanging out with Communist dictators and going to ballgames. ISIS is simply not treated as a threat by this president or at least, he doesn’t give the impression that he really cares about our allies or the Americans that were wounded. How are we going to defeat the terrorists while he’s watching a ballgame and giving interviews to ESPN? The fact is we have to do something concrete. The statements made by the president smack of the Marie Antoinette-ish attitude, ‘Let the people eat cake.’ I was on The Kelly File talking about this.

Officials Say Guantanamo Transfers Have Killed Americans
Americans have been killed by prisoners released from the detention center at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, a senior Defense Department official told lawmakers Wednesday, triggering sharp criticism from Republicans opposed to shuttering the facility in the wake of deadly attacks by the Islamic State group in Brussels and Paris.

Paul Lewis, the Pentagon's special envoy for Guantanamo detention closure, declined to provide the GOP-led House Foreign Affairs Committee with details. He would not say whether the incidents occurred before or after President Barack Obama took office in January 2009.

"What I can tell you is unfortunately there have been Americans that have died because of (Guantanamo) detainees," Lewis said during an exchange with Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, R-Calif.

"When anybody dies, it is tragedy and we don't want anybody to die because we transfer detainees," Lewis said.

An Obama administration official said Lewis was referring to an incident that involved an Afghan prisoner released from Guantanamo while George W. Bush was president. The official was not authorized to speak publicly and requested anonymity.

During the Bush administration, 532 prisoners were released from Guantanamo, often in large groups to Afghanistan and Saudi Arabia - the two nationalities that made up the greatest number of prisoners.

The Obama administration has released 144 detainees after a screening process that involves representatives from six government agencies and departments who must make a unanimous decision to release.

Lewis testified before the committee along with Lee Wolosky, the State Department's special envoy for Guantanamo closure. They argued the prison is a powerful propaganda tool for the Islamic State group and keeping it open damages U.S. national security.

Republicans and a few Democrats in Congress have repeatedly thwarted Obama's effort to close the prison and blocked any attempt to move detainees to U.S. prisons in legislation the president has signed into law.

Wolosky said the Guantanamo prison did not prevent Tuesday's attacks in Brussels that killed at least 34 people and wounded more than 200 or the November 13 attacks in Paris.

"There are unfortunately going to be acts of terrorism, probably whether the facility is opened or closed," Wolosky said. "The proper analysis is, 'What are the risks of keeping it open in light of the very obvious use of that facility as a propaganda tool,' which, frankly, you should not have to question."

The committee's hearing marked the first open exchange between the Obama administration and Congress over the utility and future of the prison since Obama sent his plan for shutting it down to Capitol Hill last month. The proposal was greeted with firm opposition from Republicans, who declared his proposal to deliver an unfulfilled campaign promise a non-starter.

Republicans see the prison at Guantanamo as more essential than ever. With the Islamic State group carrying out deadly assaults in Europe and expanding its base in Libya, they said, there needs to be a place to hold terrorist suspects. Republicans have refused Obama's request that Congress change the law that prohibits moving detainees accused of violent extremist acts to U.S. soil.

The committee's chairman, Rep. Ed Royce of California, and other GOP lawmakers have also criticized the Obama administration for moving detainees to countries that are probably unable to ensure they don't resume the behaviors that got them locked up in the first place.

"Countries like Ghana and Uruguay aren't typical security and intelligence partners, but they are being asked to shoulder a heavy burden and responsibility," Royce said.

There are 91 men held at Guantanamo, down from nearly 250 when Obama assumed the presidency. Those left include 36 who are cleared for release if security conditions can be met in the countries where they will settle. Seven face trial by military commission, including five charged with planning and supporting the terrorist attack of Sept. 11, 2001. Three others have been convicted.

The Director of National Intelligence reported this month that 5 percent of Guantanamo prisoners released since January 2009, when the U.S. began using the multi-agency screening process, have re-engaged in terrorism and 8 percent are suspected of it. That compares to 21 percent confirmed and 14 percent suspected under the earlier system.

As any combat engineer would tell you, you do not need a continuous barrier, but one that slows and funnels to where they are forced to come across areas where you can control and counter the enemy. Barrier here with patrols and obstacles in the more remote areas makes sense. The Israelis can teach the US how to prevent tunneling.

The problem is the US does not have the political will to do these things.

Israel charges Islamic Jihad hacker for spying on IDF drones
[IsraelTimes] Paleostinian suspect allegedly used computer skills to gain access to overhead footage, watch troop movements and track planes at Ben-Gurion Airport

Drop the heater, Studs, or you're hist'try!
a Gazoo resident suspected of hacking into the feeds from Air Force drones and collecting information on troop movements and civilian flights for the Paleostinian Islamic Jihad
...created after many members of the Egyptian Moslem Brotherhood decided the organization was becoming too moderate. Operations were conducted out of Egypt until 1981 when the group was exiled after the assassination of President Anwar Sadat. They worked out of Gaza until they were exiled to Lebanon in 1987, where they clove tightly to Hezbollah. In 1989 they moved to Damascus, where they remain a subsidiary of Hezbollah...
terror group, police said Wednesday.

A police statement named the suspect as Majd Ouida, 22, describing him as an "electronics engineer" from the Gazoo Strip.

Ouida, who also held the position of chairman of the "Paleostinian talents society," was arrested on February 23 while en route to a meeting with young candidates on a television singing contest, the statement said but did not detail where or how he was arrested.

A police spokesperson for the Israel Police clarified that Ouida was not arrested inside the Gazoo Strip, implying he was en route from the coastal enclave to the West Bank when security forces scooped him up.

According to the indictment, he was recruited by Islamic Jihad in 2011 while working as a radio broadcaster and was made their "computer administrator."

"He carried out tasks that he received from his handlers, including coding a computer program that enabled the viewing of road cameras, hacking into the computers of the Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, interior ministry in Gazoo, and more," police said.

According to the indictment filed against the suspect, he was asked by the Islamic Jihad in 2012 to hack into the IDF’s network of drones in operation above the Gazoo Strip.

He purchased the requisite equipment from dealers in the United States and created a computer program that could intercept the broadcast feed, the prosecutor claimed.

His first two attempts at intercepting the feed failed, according to the indictment, but on his third try he was successful, allowing his handlers to see some of the footage captured by the IDF drone cameras.

"While watching the broadcasts, the defendant realized the drone was collecting intelligence on terrorist operatives working on launching and storing missiles in the Gazoo Strip," according to the indictment.

Ouida also succeeded in accessing footage from highway cameras inside Israel, obtaining for his organization information on the movement of Israeli security forces and civilians during wars in the Strip and rocket strikes, the indictment said.

Further, the man allegedly developed an application that compiled information on the movement of planes at Israel’s Ben Gurion international airport, as well as gaining access to passenger manifestos, plane weights and makes, and takeoff and landing times.

Ouida faces a litany of charges for his actions, including espionage, conspiracy to commit a crime, computer hacking and transferring information to an enemy with the intent to harm national security.

John Kasich Lone GOP Candidate Preaching Tolerance of Muslims
[PJ] Gov. John Kasich of Ohio on Tuesday cautioned against monitoring Muslim-Americans after the attacks in Brussels, saying that such a step would create division and harm the country’s ability to gather intelligence.

His comments came after one of his rivals, Senator Ted Cruz of Texas, called for law enforcement "to patrol and secure Muslim neighborhoods before they become radicalized."

Mr. Kasich told reporters in Minneapolis, "We are not at war with Islam; we’re at war with radical Islam."

"In our country," he said, "we don’t want to create divisions where we say, ‘O.K., well your religion, you’re a Muslim, so therefore we’re going to keep an eye on you.’" He added that "the last thing we need is more polarization."

Famine threatens half of Yemen
Nearly half of Yemen’s 22 provinces on the verge of famine as result of the war there and more than 13 million people need food aid, the U.N. World Food Programme (WFP) says.

Aid groups have blamed curbs imposed by the Saudi-led coalition on access to Houthi-controlled ports for the crisis and also accuse Houthis of preventing supplies from reaching some areas, including the city of Taiz in the southwest.

“From a food security perspective, 10 of Yemen’s 22 provinces are classified as emergency, which is one step before famine,” Adham Musallam, deputy director of the WFP office in the capital Sanaa, said as the agency launched a food voucher program to help the most needy.

Fighting over the past year has displaced about 2.3 million people and left more than half of Yemen’s 26 million population in need of food aid, Musallam said.

“This means that we must not wait until the situation reaches famine but must act now to provide humanitarian aid directly,” Musallam said.

The Houthis took over Sanaa in September 2014, ousting President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi, then seized his temporary headquarters in the southern port city of Aden.

The Saudi-led Arab coalition intervened in March 2015 to try to restore Hadi to power and roll back Houthi gains. More than 6,200 people have been killed in the conflict, half of them civilians.

To counter the food crisis, the WFP has launched a program of emergency food vouchers to provide up to one million people with basic needs eventually.

In Sanaa, which is still under Houthi control, hundreds of people queued for hours to register for the vouchers. Under the program a family of six receives wheat grain, pulses, vegetable oil, salt and sugar provided by the WFP through a local supplier.
But one Sanaa resident expressed concern that the aid might not be sustained.

“We would like to have rations provided for the entire month, not just for a week or five days,” he told Reuters TV.

Many Yemenis have sought refuge in Sanaa after air strikes by the Saudi-led coalition destroyed their homes, especially in northern Yemen, where the Houthis, a Zaydi Shi’ite group, come from.

12-year-old suicide bomber surrender to Afghan forces in Nangarhar
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] A 12-year-old child assigned for a suicide mission surrendered himself to the security forces in the eastern Nangarhar
The unfortunate Afghan province located adjacent to Mohmand, Kurram, and Khyber Agencies. The capital is Jalalabad. The province was the fief of Younus Khalis after the Soviets departed and one of his sons is the current provincial Taliban commander. Nangarhar is Haqqani country..
province of AFghanistan.

According to the local security officials, the child was recently taken to Jalalabad city from the neighboring Pakistain for the suicide mission.

Provincial police chief Fazal Ahmad Shirzad said the child was trained in a Madrasa in Pakistain regarding the suicide kaboom and the kid handed over himself to the security forces on Tuesday.

The child said he was motivated to refrain from the attack after witnessing the Afghan people are offering prayers and there are plenty of mosques open in the country, apparently gesturing towards the terror groups claims regarding the ruling un-Islamic system, a claim which is mainly used to brainwash the children and young people for the terrorist attacks.

This comes as the Afghan children have regularly been recruited by the turban groups, the Taliban and the Haqqani network for the terrorist related activities, including suicide attacks.

Madrasas are described as the main recruitment source for the turban groups as poor families in Pakistain and Afghanistan send their sons to such madrassas for free education and lodging.

According to the testimonies given by the children recruited for suicide attacks, their handlers promise them heaven and an end to all problems by carrying suicide attack, a similar testimony given by the 12-year-old child who surrendered to security forces in Jalalabad yesterday.

Champ regime Engaged in Secret Talks to Pay Iran Nearly $2 Billion
[Free Beacon] The Obama administration has spent three years engaged in secret talks with Iran that resulted in the payment of nearly $2 billion in taxpayer funds to the Islamic Republic, with more payouts likely to come in the future, according to a recent letter issued by the State Department and obtained exclusively by the Washington Free Beacon.

The administration’s disclosure came in response to an inquiry launched in January by Rep. Mike Pompeo (R., Kan.), who was seeking further information about the Obama administration’s payment of $1.7 billion in taxpayer funds to Iran, which many viewed as a "ransom payment" for Iran’s release that month of several U.S. hostages.

The administration’s official response to Pompeo was sent earlier this week, just days after a Free Beacon report detailing a months-long State Department effort to stall the lawmaker’s inquiry.

"We apologize for the delay in responding," Julia Frifield, an assistant secretary for legislative affairs, states in the letter’s opening.

Obama administration officials first began talks to settle a number of outstanding legal claims leveled against the United States by Iran in 2014. The administration predicts that more taxpayer-funded payments are likely to be granted to the Islamic Republic in the future, according to the letter.

Syrian air force intensifies airstrikes in Hama
HOMS ــ Pro-regime warplanes conducted several airstrikes in Syria’s Hama province, causing casualties among civilians and destruction in residential buildings, local sources reported on Wednesday.

Speaking to ARA News in Hama, rights activist Atif Ismail said the Syrian warplanes launched several airstrikes on the town of Kafrenbuda and its environs, killing and wounding over twenty civilians.

The attack resulted in a massive destruction in Kafrenbuda, amidst continued battles between rebels and pro-regime forces west of the town in an attempt by the latter to advance in the area.

“A soldier from the Syrian army forces was shot dead by rebel snipers in Hama suburbs,” Ismail added.

Local sources reported that the pro-regime warplanes also targeted the towns of Sarhan, Atshan and Shuyoukh in Hama province with a number of airstrikes. At least three civilians were killed and ten more wounded in the strikes, including rebel fighters.

“Syrian regime helicopters dropped several barrel bombs on southern Hama, targeting the towns of al-Nazaza, al-Damina, and al-Qarbata, causing the injury of dozens of civilians and the destruction of surrounding residential buildings,” an eyewitness told ARA News.

“The Syrian regime has repeatedly violated the truce in Hama,” he said.

N.Korea Tests Submarine-Launched Missile Sub-System
North Korea conducted a ground ejection test of a submarine-launched ballistic missile last week, according to a U.S. website.

Quoting U.S. defense officials, the Washington Free Beacon on Tuesday reported that the test on March 16 "involved a 'pop-up' or 'ejection test' of the developmental SLBM from a canister ashore at the Sinpo shipyard… on North Korea's east coast" where it is being developed.

The test, the first since the UN unanimously passed powerful sanctions against the North on March 2, violates UN Security Council Resolution 2270 aimed at deterring the North from continuing nuclear and missile development.
The UNSC will, of course, be all over this...
The North also conducted a test of the missile from a submarine in waters near Sinpo on Dec. 21 last year, which the website reported on Jan. 5. The test failed.

The rocket is apparently an improved version of the Russian-made SS-N-6.

The North would need to miniaturize a nuclear warhead to 500-600 kg to mount it on a submarine-launched missile.

Syrian Islamist rebels in Daraa call on jihadis to desert ISIS
HOMS – Syrian Islamist rebels called on people in the southern province of Daraa to leave the ranks of the radical group of Islamic State (ISIS), accusing them of “postponing victory” against forces loyal to President Bashar al-Assad in Syria’s war.

The Jaish al-Islam (army of Islam), an extended umbrella for several Syrian rebel groups, issued Wednesday a statement, obtained by ARA News, saying: “We call on all those who have joined the terror group (ISIS) in the western countryside of Daraa, southern Syria, to leave it as soon as possible.”
"Leave those infidels and join the true faith!"
"Hey, we're the true faith and you're apostates!"
“The door of amnesty is still open for those who did not shed blood,” leadership of Islamist rebels stressed, warning “members of the Army of Islam in southern Syria will not save any effort to punish those who are behind the delayed of victory over the regime.”

“ISIS extremists combat opposition fighters, deforming the name of Islam as well as deceiving our young people through demonstrating adherence to religion,” the statement said, adding they are “the worst enemies of Islam”.

“We are fully supporting the Court of Justice in Dar Horan, the only forum to bring justice and unity to people in Daraa,” leadership of the Islamist rebels stressed.

Speaking to ARA News in Daraa, media activist Mohammed Hassan said the rebel group of the Yarmouk army has sent a message similar to that of the Army of Islam, calling on ISIS militants to desert its ranks in the Yarmouk district, south of Syria.

Turkey detains 3 suspects amid fear of new attacks
A Turkish state-run agency says authorities detained three men, including two foreigners, suspected of planning another attack in Istanbul.

Anadolu Agency says security operations targeted three different Istanbul addresses based on information gathered by the Turkish anti-terrorism agency and German intelligence services. A Turkish national, an Iraqi and a Syrian were detained.

The arrests come after a suicide bomber in Istanbul killed four foreigners. Turkey has witnessed a series of deadly suicide bombings, some claimed by Kurdish militants and others blamed on ISIS.
Al Ahram adds:
Three suspected Islamic State group members arrested in Turkey were planning attacks on Germany's diplomatic missions or schools in the country, which were closed last week over a terror threat, Turkish media reported Wednesday.

Last Thursday, Germany closed its embassy in Ankara, its consulate in Istanbul and German schools in both cities, with Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier citing "very serious" indications of planned attacks. Turkish authorities had criticised the closures, saying they were unjustified.

Tuesday's arrests in Istanbul come as police continue to hunt three Turkish suspected members of an IS group cell believed to be planning further attacks in crowded public places.

Saudi Arrests Shiite Imam for 'Glorifying' Hizbullah
[An Nahar] Saudi security forces have jugged
Keep yer hands where we can see 'em, if yez please!
a Shiite preacher accused of glorifying Hizbullah
...Party of God, a Leb militia inspired, founded, funded and directed by Iran. Hizbullah refers to itself as The Resistance and purports to defend Leb against Israel, with whom it has started and lost one disastrous war to date, though it did claim victory...
, a newspaper reported on Tuesday.

Hussein al-Radi was detained after Gulf Arab states declared Hizbullah a "terrorist" group earlier this month and brought in tough new measures against anyone supporting it.

The Al-Watan daily reported that security forces arrested Radi, from the Al-Ahsa oasis region in Eastern Province.

"This is after he glorified the terrorist group Hizbullah and insulted the kingdom in a video clip that has been shared" online, the report said.

Radi "also broke previous pledges he had made after defending the terrorist Nimr al-Nimr following his execution," it added.

Nimr, another Shiite holy man from Eastern Province, was a driving force behind protests that began in 2011 among the Shiite minority in Sunni-majority Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
The Shiites complain of marginalization.

Nimr and three other Shiites were among 47 people executed on January 2 for "terrorism."

Iranian demonstrators stormed the Saudi embassy in Tehran and a consulate following Nimr's execution, prompting Riyadh to cut diplomatic ties.

Al-Watan quoted a security source as saying authorities had shown "patience" over a number of violations Radi allegedly made.

"But he continued to incite the public, taking advantage of the mosque platform to breach regulations."

A video posted Sunday on YouTube showed the bespectacled Radi, with a bushy white beard, speaking at a podium where he hails Hizbullah leader His Eminence Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah
The satrap of the Medes and the Persians in Leb...
as a "hero."

Radi also praises Iran as a regional and international power.

An interior ministry front man could not confirm Radi's arrest to AFP but said: "I would assure you that ... laws in the kingdom are enforced."

American Muslims defy Cruz's call for surveillance

After Sen. Ted Cruz called for increased surveillance of Muslims in the U.S., many people in this community and others like it either challenged the Republican presidential candidate or dismissed his comments as mostly meaningless rhetoric.

#1  The key word is "increased" surveillance. Believe it or not, currently there is ongoing targeted surveillance in muslim communities. Problem is the FBI's Civil Rights division appears to have more clout then their CT division. Perhaps, Cruz will clarify.

If so damn many of them weren't immigrating to the U.S., they wouldn't need all these mosques.

ICC Confirms 70 Charges against Ugandan LRA Rebel Leader
[An Nahar] War crimes judges Wednesday confirmed 70 charges against notorious Lord's Resistance Army commander Dominic Ongwen for crimes committed in Uganda, including keeping sex slaves and recruiting child soldiers.

Judges at the International Criminal Court
... where Milosevich died of old age before being convicted ...
"confirmed 70 charges brought by the prosecutor against Dominic Ongwen," the Hague-based court said, paving the way to a trial on the alleged crimes.

Known as the "White Ant" in his native Acholi language, Ongwen is charged with war crimes and crimes against humanity for his role from 2002 to 2005 in the rebel group's reign of terror in northern Uganda, led by its runaway chief Joseph Kony
... The Lords Resistance Army is a religious and military group formed in 1987. It is led by Joseph Kony, who proclaims himself the spokesperson of God and a spirit medium, and who is periodically possessed by demons, Beelzebub and Legion prominent among them. Kony advises his soldiers to draw crosses on their chests as a protection against bullets. This does't work, but nobody outside the LRA minds. The group is based on a hodge podge of apocalyptic Christianity, mysticism, and traditional Acholi religion, and claims to be establishing a theocratic state based on an odd interpretation of the Ten Commandments. The LRA is famous for systematic criminal conduct, including murder, abduction, mutilation, sexual enslavement of women and children, forcing children to participate in hostilities, and occasional cannibalism. The LRA operates mainly in northern Uganda and also in parts of Sudan, Central African Republic and DR Congo...
Ongwen will be the first LRA member to face trial at the ICC, set up in 2002 to try the world's worst crimes.

A former child-soldier-turned-warlord, Ongwen was Kony's one-time deputy and one of the most senior commanders of the LRA, which is accused of slaughtering more than 100,000 people and abducting 60,000 children in a bloody rebellion against Kampala that began in 1986.

Prosecutors in January told the ICC's judges that Ongwen was the "tip of the spear" of the group that has sown terror in several countries across central and eastern Africa.

Ongwen, who is about 40 years old, allegedly ordered the killings of civilians as well as the abduction and enslavement of children to be rebel soldiers as the LRA attacked helpless villages across the Ugandan countryside, prosecutors said.

Witnesses to the carnage said Ongwen ordered his hostages, at least on one occasion, to "kill, cook and eat civilians," prosecutors said.

The LRA first emerged in northern Uganda in 1986, where it claimed to fight in the name of the Acholi ethnic group against the government of Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni.

But over the years it has moved freely across porous regional borders, shifting from Uganda to sow terror in southern Sudan before heading into northeastern Democratic Republic of the Congo
...formerly the Congo Free State, Belgian Congo, Zaire, and who knows what else, not to be confused with the Brazzaville Congo aka Republic of Congo, which is much smaller and much more (for Africa) stable. DRC gave the world Patrice Lumumba and Joseph Mobutu, followed by years of tedious civil war. Its principle industry seems to be the production of corpses. With a population of about 74 million it has lots of raw material...
, and finally crossing into southeastern Central African Republic in March 2008.

Army Deserter Killed in Akkar Shootout
[An Nahar] An Army Intelligence unit rubbed out on Wednesday a Lebanese military deserter in the northern district of Akkar, the military said.

Corporal Atef Saadeddine died during a shootout with the intelligence patrol, it said in a communique.

The incident took place near the town of al-Bireh where soldiers were raiding a house where he was hiding.

Saadeddine, 26, faces desertion charges since he disappeared in the eastern Bekaa Valley almost two years ago.

He defected to the al-Qaeda-linked al-Nusra
...formally Jabhat an-Nusrah li-Ahli sh-Sham (Support Front for the People of the Levant), also known as al-Qaeda in the Levant. They aim to establish a pan-Arab caliphate. Not the same one as the Islamic State, though .. ...
Front in neighboring Syria claiming in a video that his move came as a result of the injustice against Sunnis in Leb.

In the 6-minute long video, he also called on Lebanese soldiers to take a similar step.

Islamists in the country claim that Sunnis are facing harassment by the army, which they accuse of working under the command of Hizbullah
...Party of God, a Leb militia inspired, founded, funded and directed by Iran. Hizbullah refers to itself as The Resistance and purports to defend Leb against Israel, with whom it has started and lost one disastrous war to date, though it did claim victory...
The army communique said Saadeddine was injured when he fought alongside hard boyz who overran the northeastern border town of Arsal in August 2014.

The deserter was also involved the fighting between troops and jihadists in the northern city of Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
and surrounding areas in October of the same year, it added.

India-Pakistan
Donated 60-70 lakh Pakistan rupees to LeT, says David Headley
[Indian Express] Convicted American terrorist David Coleman Headley told a special court Wednesday that he donated 60-70 lakh
... 1 lakh = 100,000...
Pak rupees
...and there are 103.8 Pakistani rupees to US$1, so you can do the math, dear Reader.
to Lashkar-e-Taiba
...the Army of the Pure, an Ahl-e-Hadith terror organization founded by Hafiz Saeed. LeT masquerades behind the Jamaat-ud-Dawa facade within Pakistain and periodically blows things up and kills people in India. Despite the fact that it is banned, always an interesting concept in Pakistain, the organization remains an blatant tool and perhaps an arm of the ISI...
(LeT). Headley, an approver in 26/11 attack case, was being cross-questioned by the lawyer of accused Syed Zabiuddin Ansari alias Abu Jundal for the first time.

Appearing in the special TADA court via video conferencing from some holy man's guesthouse an undisclosed location in US, Headley told defence advocate Abdul Wahab Khan that he made the donation in 2006. Asked if the money was used to fund the Mumbai attack, Headley replied, "It was donated by me for many things, different things."

When Khan put the question to him in other forms, he said: "That would be impossible because the last donation was made in 2006 and the attacks had not been planned then."

Asked if he had disclosed this to the US government, he said, "I don’t remember... Maybe."

After having established that Headley visited Pakistain once for drug smuggling between 1992 and 1998, Khan asked him how he invested the proceeds of the criminal activity.

"I had purchased a few shops in the UAE in 2004," Headley said.

Headley lost his cool briefly when Khan suggested that he invested in real estate using his income from the LeT. "I never received any income from the LeT. I gave LeT funds myself," he said.

After Headley admitted to investing in property in Pakistain, Khan asked again, "Did you invest in Pakistain using income from the LeT or the drug business?"

"Urdu mein samjhaaon aapko?," bristled Headley.

"Punjabi mein samjhao," Khan smiled back.

Headley shot back. "Your client is fighting for his life. You have to be serious... It is not a joke."

When Khan repeated the question, Headley said: "My answer is that it is nonsense."

Khan complained to Judge G A Sanap, who admonished Headley. "You have to be very polite," he said.

"I am telling him in the language he understands," replied Headley.

Nikam objected to the question, "He is irritating the witness," he said.

Earlier, Khan took Headley back to 1988, when he was first placed in durance vile
Drop the rod and step away witcher hands up!
for drug smuggling. He had entered into a plea bargain and served three-and-half years in prison.

In 1998, Headley was again arrested by Drug Enforcement Authority while attempting to smuggle narcotics into the US from Pakistain. Headley deposed that he entered into a plea bargain once more and served 15 months in jail.

The second jail term was followed by five years of supervised release. Headley said he had violated terms of the plea agreement to not indulge in criminal activity by joining LeT.

Asked whether 26/11 attack convict Dr Tahawwur Rana had been in touch with LeT turbans prior to 26/11, Headley replied, "I don’t remember. I will refer to the notes tomorrow and let you know."

Headley deposed that he had told Rana about his involvement in the attacks conspiracy "4-5 months before the end."

Headley also told court that Rana’s chief concern was that terror activities should not be carried out from his office in Tardeo, which Headley was running.

#4  Smells like bullshit. What kind of rabid dog can 'devour' a human? The whole point of rabid dogs is that they have rabies, which is a nerve disease that kills slowly, over weeks. They just have to bite you and you get infected. They don't kill you right away, that defeats the entire point of rabies.

Europe
A terrorist attack has happened in Europe. Let the standard response begin
[BLOGS.SPECTATOR.CO.UK] Well at least we all know the form by now. This morning Islamist suicide-bombers struck one of the few European capitals they haven’t previously hit in a mass-casualty terrorist attack.
Serious Islamists attacked non-serious Euros. We've seen this before, because it's happened so often before.
Last time it became a serious ongoing problem, a variety of European countries, including Switzerland, arranged to pay the PLO billions to transit them quietly instead of while bombing, shooting, and kidnapping. They are, I believe, still making those payments.
The standard response now goes as follows. First the body parts of innocent people are flung across airport check-ins or underground trains. Briefly there is some shock. On social media the sentimentalists await the arrival of this atrocity’s cutesy hashtag or motif and hope it will tide them over until the piano man arrives at the scene of the attack to sing ‘Imagine there’s no countries’. Meantime someone will hopefully have said something which a lot of people can condemn as ‘inappropriate’. I see that the Telegraph columnist Allison Pearson was this morning’s Twitter miscreant, foolish enough to say in the wake of the Brussels attack that the EU might not make us very safe. One may agree or disagree with this sentiment, but Ms Pearson should have known that the only acceptable thing to do after a jacket wallah detonates beside the European Commission is to acclaim the Commission as one of the few entities able to keep us safe.

We will shortly move to the next phase, which is to find a good news story amid the rubble. Anything will do, but best of all is a Muslim good news story. After Gay Paree it was swiftly reported that one of the suicide bombers at Stade de La Belle France had been turned away by a brave Muslim security guard. The story whizzed around the world before anyone could check whether it was true. It wasn’t. But people needed it to be. Not because Muslims don’t do good deeds, but because in the wake of any Islamist terrorist attack people need people opposed to the bombers to be Muslim and the bombers themselves not to be Muslim. Then the good Muslim can represent Islam while the bad Muslims can be said to have nothing to do with it.

Europe
Brussels bomber brothers identified
[Dhaka Tribune] Belgium’s chief prosecutor named two brothers on Wednesday as Dae’sh jacket wallahs who killed at least 31 people in the most deadly attacks in Brussels’ history but said another key suspect was on the run.

The federal prosecutor told a news conference that Ibrahim El Bakraoui, 29, one of two men who blew themselves up at Brussels airport on Tuesday, had left a will on a computer dumped in a rubbish bin near the murderous Moslems’ hideout.

In it, he described himself as "always on the run, not knowing what to do anymore, being hunted everywhere, not being safe any longer and that if he hangs around, he risks ending up next to the person in a cell" - a reference to suspected Gay Paree bomber Salah Abdeslam, who was tossed in the slammer
Drop the rod and step away witcher hands up!
last week.

His brother Khalid El Bakraoui, 27, detonated a bomb an hour later on a crowded rush-hour metro train near the European Commission headquarters, prosecutor Frederic Van Leeuw said.

Both men, born in Belgium, had criminal records for armed robbery but were not previously linked by Sherlocks to holy warrior murderous Moslems.

At least 31 people were killed and about 271 maimed in the attacks, the prosecutor said. That toll could increase further because some of the bomb victims at Maelbeek metro station were blown to pieces and victims are hard to identify. Several survivors were still at death's door.

The Bakraoui brothers were identified by their fingerprints and on security cameras, the prosecutor said. The second suicide bomber at the airport had yet to be identified and a third man, whom he did not name, had left the biggest bomb and run out of the terminal before the kabooms.

Belgian media named that man as Najim Laachraoui, 25, a suspected Dae’sh recruiter and bomb-maker whose DNA was found on two explosives belts used in last November’s Gay Paree attacks and at a Brussels safe house used by Abdeslam before his arrest last Friday.

Khalid El Bakraoui had rented under a false name the apartment in the city’s Forest borough, where police hunting Abdeslam killed a gunman in a raid last week. He is also believed to have rented a safe house in the southern Belgian city of Charleroi used to mount the Gay Paree attacks.

‘Black days’
The Syrian-based jihadist group grabbed credit for Tuesday’s attacks, warning of "black days" for those fighting it in Syria and Iraq. . A minute’s silence was observed across Belgium at noon. Prime Minister Charles Michel cancelled a trip to China and reviewed security measures with his inner cabinet before attending a memorial event at European Commission headquarters with King Philippe, Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker and French Prime Minister Manuel Valls.

More than 1,000 people gathered around an improvised shrine with candles and street paintings outside the Brussels bourse.

Belgium’s crisis coordination centre kept the level of security alert at the maximum as the man hunt continued. Some buses and trains were running but the metro and the airport were closed, along with key road tunnels in Brussels.

After a tip-off from a taxi driver who unknowingly drove the bombers to the airport, police searched an apartment in the Brussels borough of Schaerbeek late into the night, finding another bomb, a Dae’sh flag and bomb-making chemicals.

An unused bomb was later found at the airport.

Brussels airport seemed likely to remain shut for several days over the busy Easter holiday weekend, since the departure hall was still being combed as a scene of the crime on Wednesday and repairs can only begin once Sherlocks are finished.

Afghanistan
Pakistani incursions on agenda as top security officials visit eastern provinces
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] Top security officials from the Ministry of Interior and Ministry of Defense visited eastern Kunar and Nangarhar
The unfortunate Afghan province located adjacent to Mohmand, Kurram, and Khyber Agencies. The capital is Jalalabad. The province was the fief of Younus Khalis after the Soviets departed and one of his sons is the current provincial Taliban commander. Nangarhar is Haqqani country..
province ot review the security situation as well as cross-border incursions by Pakistain.

The Ministry of Interior (MoI) said the delegation of the top security officials is led by the commander of the border protection police forces Gen. Abdul Fatah Frogh.

A statement by MoD said Gen. Mohammad Afzal Aman accompanied the delegation from the Ministry of Defense during the visit to Kunar and met with the provincial governor Alhaj Wahidullah Kalimzai, commander of the border protection forces Gen. Wali Khan Shenwari, provincial police chief Gen. Abdul Habib Syed Kheli, NDS chief and the commander of the second division of 201st Corps of the Afghan National Army.

Following the review of security situation and report on recent cross-border incursions by Pak military, the commander of the border protection forces Gen. Frogh said the security forces have been instructed to respond to any future cross-border violation.

He said the Afghan forces are currently in better condition in terms of moral and equipment and are able to defend from the borders and national illusory sovereignty of the country.

Meanwhile,
...back at the dirigible, the pilot and the copilot had both hit the silk.

Jack! Cynthia exclaimed. Do you know how to drive one of these things?

Jack wiped some of the blood from his knuckles.

No, he said. Do you?...

a local tribal elder in Goshta district of eastern Nangarhar province, Malik Nadir Khan pledged support to the Afghan government and security forces.

He said the cross-border incursions by the Pak military have created problems for the local residents which continue since three years, forcing almost 200 families to abandon the area.

The cross-border incursions by Pak military intensified during the recent weeks and in its latest provocative move, the Pak military helicopters enter the Afghan air space in eastern Kunar province
... which is right down the road from Chitral. Kunar is Haqqani country.....
and dropped several bombs in certain areas earlier this month.

The provocative move by the Pak military sparked anger among the Afghan people and officials with the former Afghanistan's Caped President Hamid Maybe I'll join the Taliban Karzai
... A former Baltimore restaurateur, now 12th and current President of Afghanistan, displacing the legitimate president Rabbani in December 2004. He was installed as the dominant political figure after the removal of the Taliban regime in late 2001 in a vain attempt to put a Pashtun face on the successor state to the Taliban. After the 2004 presidential election, he was declared president regardless of what the actual vote count was. He won a second, even more dubious, five-year-term after the 2009 presidential election. His grip on reality has been slipping steadily since around 2007, probably from heavy drug use...
strongly condemning the provocative act.

Poland PM Refuses to Take in Migrants after Brussels Attacks
[An Nahar] Polish Prime Minister Beata Szydlo on Wednesday said Warsaw would not take in its share of migrants colonists under an EU plan because of the jihadist attacks that killed 31 people in Brussels.

Poland is the first EU member to take such a step after Tuesday's bombings at the Brussels airport and metro, which also left 270 maimed -- including three Poles -- and were claimed by the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. group.

"After what happened in Brussels yesterday, it's not possible right now to say that we're OK with accepting any number of migrants colonists at all," Szydlo told private television Superstacja.

Her conservative and euroskeptic Law and Justice (PiS) government had earlier been willing to welcome the 7,000 refugees agreed by its liberal predecessors under Ewa Kopacz.

Europe is grappling with its worst migrant crisis since World War II. Last year alone some 1.2 million people flooded into the EU, most of them Syrians fleeing via The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
and Greece.

"We're forced above all to ensure the security of our fellow citizens," Szydlo said, urging Europe against accepting "thousands of migrants colonists who come here only to improve their life conditions."

Among these migrants colonists "there are also terrorists."

The first refugees were due to arrive in Poland in late March or early April, after EU leaders forced through a one-off controversial deal last September to relocate 120,000 refugees among member states.

My mother's male cousins and her first husband basically did that during the Nazi era. They dropped off sisters and parents who'd got out with them, joined the military of whichever country provided asylum, and went back to destroy the Nazi beast. They all checked in at the Amsterdam fraternity house that had been hiding my grandparents, among others, then kept going until the war was won.

Angela Merkel hoped to get wage slaves to replace the ones the Germans hadn't been giving birth to, which is the other reason she encouraged the young-men-first migration.

Belgians Cannot 'Eat Chocolate' and Fight Terror, Says Israeli Minister
[An Nahar] Israel's intelligence minister accused Belgian leaders of laxity Wednesday over the threat posed by homegrown Muslim radicals, the second cabinet member to hit out after the deadly bombings in Brussels.

"If in Belgium they continue to eat chocolate, enjoy life and parade as great liberals and democrats while not taking account of the fact that some of the Muslims who are there are organizing acts of terror, they will not be able to fight against them," Yisrael Katz told public radio.

Katz charged that not only European leaders but also U.S. President Barack Obama
teachable moment...
had undermined the battle against jihadist violence with their unwillingness to define it as "Islamic terrorism".

"When you don't define your enemy, you can't lead a worldwide campaign," he said.

Katz, who is also transport minister, is a member of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's right-wing Likud and widely seen as his principal rival within the party.

He has taken a hawkish position on the wave of violence that has rocked Israel and the Paleostinian territories since October, calling for the families of Paleostinians implicated in attacks to be sent to Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason,-ruled Gazoo as a deterrent.

On Tuesday, another Likud member -- Science, Technology and Space Minister Ofir Akunis -- lashed out at Europe after the Brussels bombings, accusing it of ignoring the danger of "Islamic terror cells" and focusing on criticising Israel instead.

"Many in Europe have preferred to occupy themselves with the folly of condemning Israel, labeling products, and boycotts," Akunis said on his Facebook page.

"In this time, underneath the nose of the continent's citizens, thousands of Death Eater Islamic terror cells have grown."

Those comments drew a rebuke from Israeli opposition leader Isaac Herzog, who accused Akunis -- a Netanyahu ally -- of "miserable cynicism".

More aid agencies pull out of Greek camps, spurning EU deal
[IN.REUTERS] More aid agencies helping refugees and migrants colonists arriving in Greece said they were joining a boycott of detention centres on Wednesday, angered at an EU deal they say runs roughshod over human rights
...which are usually entirely different from personal liberty...
Human rights organizations reject the pact between the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
and The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
to fast-track registration and asylum applications, under which hundreds of new arrivals have been detained since Sunday. Refugees or migrants colonists whose applications fail will be sent back to Turkey.

Aid agencies said cooperating with the Greeks at detention centres would make them complicit with an "unfair and inhumane" practice.
Notice that the reporter doesn't bother to tell us what the problem is. What exactly is 'unfair and inhumane'? The refugees are coming to Greece. If they don't like the terms, turn around and go home.
Two aid agencies said on Wednesday they were following the U.N. refugee agency UNHCR and aid organization Medicins Sans Frontieres (MSF), a major contributor to the ISIS war effort relief effort, which both announced on Tuesday they would cut back assistance.

"The IRC alerted the (Greek) coasties on Monday that we would not transport the world's most vulnerable people to a place where their freedom of movement is impeded upon," said Lucy Carrigan, a regional spokeswoman for the International Rescue Committee (IRC).

The IRC will continue to support those at another makeshift camp, she said.

The Norwegian Refugee Council, a major non-governmental organization, said it was suspending most of its activities at a detention centre on the Greek island of Chios.

"We are extremely close to be in a position where this site is dangerously overcrowded ... We have a large number of refugees including pregnant women and kiddies lying on the concrete floor in the reception hall," said Dan Tyler, a protection adviser for the council.

Tension in the facility was building up and there had already been demonstrations, he told Rooters.

Turkey Launches Air Strikes against PKK in Iraq, Turkey
Turkish armed forces said on Wednesday that the military carried out air strikes on Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) targets in northern Iraq and killed 26 militants in southeast Turkey.

Violence in Turkey has increasingly flared since a ceasefire with the Kurds broke down last July.

Tuesday’s air strikes targeted shelters, caves and ammunition depots used by the PKK in northern Iraq and rural areas near the southeastern Turkish town of Semdinli, at the mountainous border with Iraq and Iran, the military statement said.

The military says more than a thousand militants have been killed in the largely Kurdish southeast since the 2-1/2 year PKK ceasefire collapsed in July, prompting the heaviest clashes in the region since the 1990s.

President Tayyip Erdogan has said more than 300 members of the security forces have died, while the pro-Kurdish opposition says hundreds of civilians have also been killed.

The army said it killed 26 PKK fighters in the southeastern towns of Nusaybin, Sirnak and Yuksekova on Tuesday alone. It also destroyed explosives and seized weapons and ammunition.

On Tuesday, the PKK killed five members of Turkish security forces in three separate bomb attacks near the Syrian and Iranian borders, army and security sources said.

More than 40,000 people have been killed in the conflict since it began in 1984. The PKK, which says it is fighting for Kurdish autonomy, is designated a terrorist organization by Turkey, the United States and European Union.

In face of the surge in violence and the deadly attacks against Turkey, President Tayyip Erdogan said on Monday Turkey would use its entire military and intelligence might to battle “one of the biggest and bloodiest terrorist waves in its history”.

US diplomat looks to market Iran deal to wary firms
[IsraelTimes] Chris Backemeyer seeks to convince skeptical companies to invest in Tehran amid fears of renewed sanctions

Two months after the implementation of last year’s landmark nuclear agreement, a US diplomat is on an unlikely mission -- promoting the Iran deal to firms that want to tap into its massive market but fear other sanctions, or that the next American president could scrap the deal.

It’s not an easy task for Chris Backemeyer or other Americans on the equivalent of a nuclear deal roadshow, especially as Iran’s Revolutionary Guard continues to fire off ballistic missiles and US Republican presidential candidates vow to tear up the pact if elected.

Turkey Detains Japanese 'Seeking to Join IS' in Syria
[An Nahar] The Sick Man of Europe Turkey

has detained a Japanese citizen in the south of the country on suspicion of seeking to cross the border into Syria to join Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. (IS) jihadists, the Dogan news agency said on Wednesday.

The young man aged 24, named as M.M., was detained late on Tuesday in the Nizip district of the southern city of Gaziantep, close to the Syrian border.

According to Dogan, he had admitted to wanting to travel to Syria after getting to know an unnamed contact by telephone and then agreeing the cross the frontier.

He will be deported from Turkey back to Japan once the investigation is completed, the agency added.

It said he was detained during a routine check by the Turkish gendarmerie while being driven towards the border settlement of Karkamis.

The official Anatolia news agency said police had confirmed his contacts with jihadists by examining messages on his mobile phone.

Long accused of not doing enough to police its border with Syria, Turkey has in the last months tightened controls, detaining dozens of foreign jihadists.

The arrest of a Japanese citizen is hugely unusual, as most of those detained seeking to cross the border come from countries with large Muslim populations.

Images published by Dogan showed the bespectacled young man kneeling in the middle of the road with his hands above his head, guarded by an armed soldier.

Turkish officials said security forces on Tuesday incarcerated

Gulbuddin’s party wants ‘power-sharing’ with Kabul in exchange for peace
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The Hezb-e-Islami party led by the notorious holy warriors leader Gulbuddin Hekmatyar
... who used to be known in intelligence circles as The Most Evil Man in the World but who now seems merely run-of-the-mill evil...
is seeking power-sharing with the Afghan government in exchange for peace deal, it has been reported.

The Afghan high peace council is busy negotiating peace deal with the delegation of Hezb-e-Islami party sent by Hekmatyar on 17th March.

According to the officials privy to the development, the party is seeking positions in the civil and security institutions of the country.

"At this stage, Hezb-e Islami is seeking to become a government partner by seeking positions in civil and security institutions," an Afghan official told RFE/RL on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak about the ongoing talks.

The official further added that the government was "listening and evaluating the practicality of their demands," but that a final decision had not been made.

The Hezb-e-Islami was the first myrmidon group to show a green light towards calls for peace talks following the conclusion of the last Quadrilateral Coordination Group meeting which called on the myrmidon groups to start direct talks with the Afghan government.

"The QCG member states invite all Taliban and other groups to participate through their authorized representatives in the first round of direct peace talks with the Afghan government expected to take place by the first week of March 2016," according to a joint statement by QCG.

The call by Hezb-e-Islami party to participate in peace talks and sending the party’s delegation to Kabul
...the capital of Afghanistan. Home to continuous fighting from 1992 to 1996 between the forces of would-be strongman and Pak ISI/Jamaat-e-Islami sock puppet Gulbuddin Hekmayar and the Northern Alliance, a period which won Hek the title Most Evil Man in the World and didn't do much for the reputations of the Northern Alliance guys either....
for the talks was welcomed by the Afghan officials amid hopes that the move would encourage other myrmidon groups to join the talks.

However,
death is not the end. There remains the litigation over the estate...
the Talibs group rejected the offer and said the group will not participate in the peace talks, reiterating its preconditions for the talks which include the complete withdrawal of the foreign forces from the country.

Paris attacks fugitive Laachraoui named as second Brussels airport bomber
[FRANCE24] Najim Laachraoui, a Belgian wanted by authorities in connection with the November 13 Gay Paree attacks, has been named by police sources as one of three suspected bombers who killed at least 31 people and injured 270 in Brussels on Tuesday.

Belgian and international media cited police sources as saying that Laachraoui was the second bomber in the attack on Brussels airport.

Federal prosecutors earlier on Wednesday identified Ibrahim El-Bakraoui as one of the three suspects who targeted the airport, and his brother Khalid El-Bakraoui as the Maelbeek metro bombing suspect.

Belgian officials have not officially identified Laachraoui as one of the Brussels attackers so far. Doing so would establish a clear link between the string of deadly attacks in and around Gay Paree on November 13, 2015 and the March 22 attacks in Brussels.

Connection to Gay Paree attacks
Laachraoui, 24, is suspected of being one of the explosive experts and co-ordinators of the Gay Paree attacks, after his DNA was found on boom belts used in both the attack on the Bataclan concert hall and the Stade de La Belle France, suggesting he not only handled them but may also have built them.

Under the alias of "Soufiane Kayal" he rented a home in the town of Auvelais, in southern Belgium, which was used by the jihadists to prepare the November attacks. Investigators believe he was in phone contact with the hard boyz that night.

This was also the name he gave when he was stopped at the Austria-Hungary border with Salah Abdeslam, the sole surviving participant of the Gay Paree attacks, and Mohammed Belkaïd, another suspected co-ordinator of the Gay Paree attacks, in September 2015.

Since he was travelling under a false identity, police were unaware that he was the subject of an international arrest warrant, issued in March 2014, for recruiting fighters for the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group.

Laachraoui was only publicly identified as a Gay Paree attacks suspect on Monday.

Laachraoui went to Syria in February 2013 and reportedly returned to Europe posing as a refugee. In February he was tried in absentia for involvement in a recruiting network of Belgians who left for Syria, in which the prosecutor called for him to be handed a 15-year prison sentence.

Moroccan-born Laachraoui has Belgian nationality and was raised in the Schaerbeek neighbourhood of Brussels, where police conducted searches shortly after the city's airport and metro attacks. He is believed to have studied electromechanical engineering at a Catholic high school, the Institut de la Sainte-Famille d’Helmet.

Hand Grenades Found at Bab al-Tabbaneh Mosque
[An Nahar] A bag containing hand grenades was found Tuesday at a armory mosque in the northern city of Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
, state-run National News Agency reported.

"Army troops discovered a bag containing several unarmed hand grenades at the al-Jihad Mosque in Tripoli's Bab al-Tabbaneh," NNA said.

Meanwhile,
...back at the pound, the little lost dog had finished eating the rat terrier...
Voice of Leb radio (100.5) said the finding coincided with strict security measures by the army in Tripoli.

"The army erected random checkpoints and staged armored patrols against the backdrop of the death of the father of the runaway Shadi al-Mawlawi," the radio station said.

Islamist holy warrior Mawlawi disappeared from Tripoli's Bab al-Tabbaneh following the October 2014 fierce gunbattles between his followers and the army.

In early 2015, Mawlawi claimed that he left the southern Paleostinian refugee camp of Ein el-Hellhole for an unknown destination.

Media reports said Mawlawi fled the camp disguised in women clothes and using fake identification papers, the same way he entered it in November 2014.

between rustics and forces loyal to Libya's unrecognized government, an army officer said.

The violence in the village of Touebiya, 30 kilometers (20 miles) from the capital, stemmed from a failed burglary.

Tribesmen attacked the village and burnt down homes, said Colonel Abderrazaq al-Kharmani, an officer with forces that support the unrecognized government in Tripoli.

"We seized one of their vehicles, destroyed another and killed seven of their fighters," he told AFP.

Kharmani said the confrontation broke out a day after a member of the tribal forces had been beaten to death with a stick by a woman in Touebiya as he tried to rob her home.

The rustics had attacked the village seeking to avenge his death, according to the officer.

Taliban's Splinter Group Rise Up Against Mansoor's Fighters In Badghis
Fighters loyal to the leader of the splinter group of the Taliban, Mullah Rasoul, in Badghis province, reportedly announced war against fighters of the Taliban faction led by Akhtar Mohammad Mansoor.‎ The commander of the splinter group accused Mansoor of killing and detaining Taliban leaders and said the Pakistani spy agency and Mansoor have pushed Afghanistan towards destruction.

After several days of fighting between the two groups of the Taliban in Shindand district of western Herat province, fighters loyal to Mullah Rasoul hoisted the Taliban's flag under the name of the Taliban's High Council in Qads district of Badghis province and vowed to fight supporters of Akhtar Mansoor.

Commander of the splinter group in Badghis said that Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and Akhtar Mansoor have been involved in killing a number of Taliban leaders, particularly the group's supreme leader Mullah Omar.

"The reasons for our differences [with Akhtar Mansoor] were that Mullah Obaidullah has been martyred in prison, Mullah Beradar is in jail and Mullah Omar was killed by Akhtar Mohammad Mansoor. Akhtar Mansoor has created an office in Qatar and he along with the Pakistani spy agency has taken a number of decisions without coordinating them with the Taliban, which are not acceptable for us," said Mollah Ghafar Tofan, military commander of Mollah Rasoul's splinter group in Badghis. He added that Pakistan and other countries have pushed Afghanistan towards fratricide.

Meanwhile, Badghis provincial council expressed its deep concerns over gathering of the Taliban in Qads district of the province and said that infighting between the Taliban will affect civilians. Mohammad Naser Nazari, a member of the council, said that the government should not allow militants to mobilize the public.

"People expect government to conduct airstrikes, wherever they organize gatherings. It should not allow the Taliban to organize gatherings," he added.

Badghis police chief, Abdul Rauf Taj, urged people not to allow the Taliban to organize gatherings in their villages.

"People should not allow the enemies to organize such sessions. The Taliban by such events want to weaken people's morale," he said. Fighting between fighters of Akhtar Mansoor and Mullah Rassoul in Zer Koh area of Shindand district of Herat left more than 200 people dead, including scores of civilians. The probability of infighting between Taliban in Badghis has raised concerns of people in Badghis.

Europe
After Brussels attacks, France’s Valls renews push for Europe-wide flight database
[FRANCE24] One day after terror attacks in Brussels killed more than 30 people, French Prime Minister Manuel Valls has renewed his calls for a Europe-wide database for tracking airline passengers.

Yesterday’s attacks, which targeted Brussels’s Zaventem airport and the Maelbeek metro station, have renewed the debate over a Passenger Name Record (PNR) system, which would allow airlines and security authorities across Europe to share vital information on airline passengers.

"It is urgent to adopt the European PNR," Valls said on Wednesday. "The European Parliament has waited too long to adopt this text. It must examine and adopt it in April; it's time."

La Belle France has pushed the European Parliament to adopt a PNR several times in recent years, saying such a system would help prevent further terror attacks.

"We are at war," Valls told French parliament on Tuesday. "I say in particular to the socialist and environmental groups in the European Parliament: Everyone should assume their responsibilities. We have lost enough time on this issue."

Left-leaning members of the parliament have opposed such a measure over worries about the use and security of personal data.

Although a PNR would not have prevented Tuesday’s airport attack, which targeted the departures area before security checkpoints, the idea has repeatedly been floated in the wake of new terror attacks in Europe.

How it would work
The PNR would store 19 pieces of information on each passenger, including flight dates, itineraries, information on the ticket, passenger contact information, the name of the booking agency, payment method, seat number and luggage data.

The goal of the PNR would be for airlines to send passenger data to security officials in each European country. The data could then be checked by national authorities against their own lists of wanted persons or terror suspects.
This does assume that said wanted persons and terror suspects flew unde their own names, spelt exactly as listed in the data base, amd didn't use, for example, a real or fake false Syrian passport with a different name.
The US, UK, Canada and Australia already use such databases.

Did taxi dispatcher mix-up limit Brussels bombing?
[Reuters] A mix-up by a Brussels taxi dispatcher may have prevented more carnage at the city's airport on Tuesday, Belgium's DH newspaper reported, saying the cab firm sent a smaller car to pick up the bombers than the one ordered.

When the driver turned up in a saloon [i.e. sedan], the three found they could not fit all four heavy holdalls into the trunk. They left one behind.
For want of a nail... Let us be grateful it was not a great deal worse.
After the taxi driver called police to relate the tale, they found a large nail bomb in the apartment in the borough of Schaerbeek and defused it. Police had no comment on the report.

#1  Could travel in smaller groups, but that allows more chicken-outs. Maybe IS needs four or more in a group to ensure group compliance.

Bangladesh
Supreme Court seals death for JMB member
[Dhaka Tribune] The Supreme Court yesterday upheld the death penalty of banned murderous Moslem outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh activist Asaduzzaman Chowdhury alias Panir for killing eight people in a kaboom in Netrakona in 2005.

A four-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha dismissed an appeal filed by the convict.

Panir had filed the appeal challenging a High Court verdict that had upheld his death sentence awarded by a trial court in 2008 for the attacks on Udichi and Shatadal Shilpi Goshthi offices.

After yesterday’s verdict, Deputy Attorney General Shashanka Shekhar Sarker told news hounds that Panir, who is now at the Dhaka Central Jail, would be able to seek review of the verdict. "Otherwise, the jail authorities will take steps for executing the death sentence after receiving the full text of verdict," he added.

According to the case, JMB men carried out the attacks on December 8, 2005, leaving eight people dead and 40 others injured. The victims are Khawja Haider, Sudipta Paul Shelly, Rani Begum, Joynal, Raisuddin, Yadev Das, Jahanara and Shawkat. One Arid alias Kafi made the explosives.

On February 17, 2008, Dhaka’s Speedy Trial Tribunal 2 sentenced to death three JMB activists -- Panir, Salahuddin alias Salehin and Yunus Ali -- for the deaths. Another accused Fahima alias Farzana alias Rokeya was acquitted. Salehin and Yunus are on the run.
