Canada to Legalize Pot This Fall
[Daily Finland] Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said on Wednesday that recreational marijuana will become legal nationwide in Canada starting Oct. 17.
Visitors, too?
The Canadian Senate passed a bill to legalize cannabis on Tuesday after more than a year of intensive study in both the House of Commons and the Senate. The legislation makes Canada only the second country in the world to allow a nationwide, legal marijuana market, although each Canadian province is drafting its own rules for pot sales.

The legislation, which stems from a campaign promise of Trudeau to keep marijuana away from underage users and reduce related crime, allows adults in the country to legally possess and use small amounts of recreational cannabis.

It sets out parameters around the production, possession, safety standards, distribution, and sale of the drug. It also creates new Criminal Code offences for selling marijuana to minors.
More bureaucracy!
Under the bill, it will be illegal for anyone younger than 18 to buy pot, but allows for provinces and territories to set a higher minimum age.
Thus fulfilling his campaign promise to keep pot away from underage users. It's illegal. What else can he do?

Don't Get Played; Get Woke to the Outrage Scam
h/t Instapundit
So what are we supposed to be outraged about today? There’s always something, and it’s always the worst thing in the history of ever. And it’s almost always a scam designed to manipulate you into obeying the liberal elite.

That’s the real outrage.

My friend and fellow Townhall columnist Derek Hunter has a new book out designed to help you detect and defeat this shameless grift, Outrage, Inc.: How the Liberal Mob Ruined Science, Journalism, and Hollywood. It’s essential reading because the sooner we can get people woke to the con, the sooner people will stop falling for this nonsense.

Joe Schmoe's disapproval of the Freak Mafia agenda is totally irrelevant if their "representatives" can be forced to play ball.

Government
White House unveils major plan to reform government
[Daily Finland] The White House on Thursday announced a comprehensive plan to reorganize the U.S. federal government, including reforming the food stamp program and merging the departments of education and labor so as to bring education and job training together.

The reform is aimed to improve and streamline the federal government but will not be in a type of "one size fits all" solution, the White House said in a statement.

Currently American job seekers have to navigate over 40 workforce development programs across 15 Federal agencies, and poultry firms have to deal with multiple government offices and loads of paperwork because chickens and eggs are regulated by different agencies, said the statement.

Under the plan, the food stamp program, officially known as SNAP, would be moved out of the Department of Agriculture and into the Department of Health and Human Services.

Other key proposals include consolidating food safety functions into a single agency called Council on Public Assistance and economic assistance resources into a new Bureau of Economic Growth within the Department of Commerce.

The Fish and Wildlife Service and NOAA Fisheries would be merged within the Interior Department, which would also take over part of the Army Corps of Engineers' civil works program.

Another proposal which is reportedly sure to be controversial is to privatize the United States Postal Service.
And more.

Unrelated, and of little consequence: Obama to visit Finland in September to attend business forum.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
Sturmgewehr 44 Saved from the Shredder, Sent to Museum
[GunsAmerica] Virginia’s Chesapeake City Council voted last week to donate rather than destroy a rare World War II firearm believed to have popularized the term "assault rifle."

The Sturmgewehr 44 (StG44) was developed by German gunsmith Hugo Schmeisser in 1942 and was used by the Nazis through the end of the war. Germany produced about 426,000, but because few ended up on North American shores, NFA-compliant models are worth nearly $30,000.

The Chesapeake Police Department confiscated the StG44 in April of 2009 after finding one in a van involved in several hit-and-runs, according to the Virginian-Pilot. The driver, Eugene McGee, was convicted of felony hit-and-run and had his Second Amendment rights revoked.

But rather than destroy the firearm, the city decided in 2010 to donate it. Police spokesman Leo Kosinski told the Pilot that he isn’t sure why it’s taken so long for the donation to occur, though he suspects that whoever came up with the idea has since retired.

Pardon my ignorance but what does it take to get it "NFA-compliant"?
Posted by: European Conservative || 06/22/2018 13:31 Comments || Top||

#6  Basically the banned guns list, unless you register the firearm and bribe pay the government money. Last time I checked, the amount for a machine gun was $3000.

So either the StG44 was made a non-"assault rifle", by modifying it to fire only semi-auto and removed the bayonet lug or Mr. Hit and Run payed $3000 to the Feds.

Which firearms are regulated under the NFA?
P.S. Silencers are not banned. Again, you gotta bribe pay the government.

Researchers Find Herpes Viruses In Brains Marked By Alzheimer's Disease
[NPR] Two common herpes viruses appear to play a role in Alzheimer's disease.

The viruses, best known for causing a distinctive skin rash in young children, are abundant in brain tissue from people with Alzheimer's, a team of scientists reports Thursday in Neuron. The team also found evidence that the viruses can interact with brain cells in ways that could accelerate the disease.

"Our hypothesis is that they put gas on the flame," says Joel Dudley, an author of the study and an associate professor of genetics and genomic sciences at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mt. Sinai in New York City.

The finding adds credence to a decades-old idea that an infection can cause Alzheimer's disease. It also suggests that it may be possible to prevent or slow Alzheimer's using antiviral drugs, or drugs that modulate how immune cells in the brain respond to an infection.

But the study doesn't prove that herpes viruses are involved in Alzheimer's, says Dr. Richard Hodes, director of the National Institute on Aging, which helped fund the research.

"The data are very provocative, but fall short of showing a direct causal role," he says. "And if viral infections are playing a part, they are not the sole actor."

Even so, the study offers strong evidence that viral infections can influence the course of Alzheimer's, Hodes says.

Like a lot of scientific discoveries, this one was an accident. "Viruses were the last thing we were looking for," Dudley says.

Terror Networks
First-ever global conference of national counter-terrorism chiefs will strengthen cooperation, build ‘resilient' States
[UN News] Heads of counter-terrorism agencies from across the world will be meeting at UN Headquarters in New York next week for the first time, to pool expertise, resources and ideas to fight back against the growing scourge of international terrorism.

In an interview with UN News ahead of the landmark forum, the official who heads up the world body’s Office of Counter-Terrorism - which came into being just a year ago - said that it would give those leading the fight from a local to international level, the chance to "show our unity" and speak with "one professional voice".

Under-Secretary-General of the Office of Counter-Terrorism, Vladimir Voronkov, said that defeating terror groups such as ISIL, otherwise known as Dae’sh, which has been mostly driven out of Iraq in the past year, must involve "the family level ‐ the level of local communities, the level of State, and the level of international cooperation. Only this kind of approach can be comprehensive."

The High-Level Conference on Counter-Terrorism, takes placed next Thursday and Friday, and will focus on strengthening cooperation "to combat the evolving threat of terrorism."

Economy
Lone Star Rising
[Fortune] Smack in the middle of Grier Brunson’s family’s ranch, a patch of West Texas dirt that sprawls across 45 square miles, sits a lush, green dip in the land that the family calls "the draw."

Thousands of years ago, Pueblos built rocky settlements here. Hundreds of years ago, Comanches thundered on horseback across this plain. Today, the natural bounty in and around the draw is producing a rather more modern stampede.

On the rim of the draw, amid the mesquite trees and the sagebrush, oil rigs loom like rockets at launch, and a team fracking a well shoots untold thousands of gallons of water and hundreds of truckloads of sand down into the earth, using huge hydraulic pumps that emit a dull, constant roar. For the Brunson family, these are the sights and sounds of money: Two miles underground, oil‐thousands of barrels of it every day, worth millions of dollars‐is being cracked loose from the rock and pulled up through carefully engineered holes.

#2  Don't look now but the aforementioned big changes are already here.

The North American continent achieved net energy independence this year and by the next campaign season Trump may well be able to run on the idea of imminent (or achieved) US energy independence. Full cycle cost in some shale fields is less than a third of what it was five years ago (and dropping). Increasingly the problems are that there's so much oil the infrastructure doesn't exist to move it from the fields to market and materials can't be delivered fast enough to complete new wells at the pace they're being drilled.

Imagine what might happen when the nation whose military guarantees global stability suddenly finds that it no longer needs the rest of the world for anything critical.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Judicial Watch Obtains IRS Documents Revealing McCain's Subcommittee Staff Director Urged IRS to Engage in "Financially Ruinous" Targeting
[Washington D.C.] ‐ Judicial Watch today released newly obtained internal IRS documents, including material revealing that Sen. John McCain’s former staff director and chief counsel on the Senate Homeland Security Permanent Subcommittee, Henry Kerner, urged top IRS officials, including then-director of exempt organizations Lois Lerner, to "audit so many that it becomes financially ruinous." Kerner was appointed by President Trump as Special Counsel for the United States Office of Special Counsel.

The explosive exchange was contained in notes taken by IRS employees at an April 30, 2013, meeting between Kerner, Lerner, and other high-ranking IRS officials. Just ten days following the meeting, former IRS director of exempt organizations Lois Lerner admitted that the IRS had a policy of improperly and deliberately delaying applications for tax-exempt status from conservative non-profit groups.

Lerner and other IRS officials met with select top staffers from the Senate Governmental Affairs Committee in a "marathon" meeting to discuss concerns raised by both Sen. Carl Levin (D-MI) and Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) that the IRS was not reining in political advocacy groups in response to the Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision. Senator McCain had been the chief sponsor of the McCain-Feingold Act and called the Citizens United decision, which overturned portions of the Act, one of the "worst decisions I have ever seen."

In the full notes of an April 30 meeting, McCain’s high-ranking staffer Kerner recommends harassing non-profit groups until they are unable to continue operating. Kerner tells Lerner, Steve Miller, then chief of staff to IRS commissioner, Nikole Flax, and other IRS officials, "Maybe the solution is to audit so many that it is financially ruinous." In response, Lerner responded that "it is her job to oversee it all:"

U.S. Citizen Found Guilty of 'Attempting To Provide Material Support to ISIS'
[Daily Caller] Parveg Ahmed, 22, of Queens, New York, went to Saudi Arabia in order to "celebrate an Islamic religious holiday" but was deported back to the U.S. after he was caught trying to cross the border into Syria in an attempt to join ISIS.

Ahmed, a U.S. citizen, was also apprehended for posting about his support for the Islamic Extremist group on Facebook. After a search warrant was acquired for his personal computer, additional materials about his attempts to join were discovered.

"... the defendant had viewed or listened to recordings of radical Islamic clerics Anwar al-Awlaki and Abdullah el-Faisal," said the DOJ. "Al-Awlaki was a U.S.-born cleric and prominent leader of the foreign terrorist organization al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula who was killed on or about Sept. 30, 2011. El-Faisal, a Jamaican-born cleric, was found guilty in the United Kingdom of, among other things, solicitation to commit murder, for preaching to followers to kill individuals, including Americans, because he deemed them to be enemies of Islam."

Ahmed faces a statutory maximum of 20 years in prison after decisions are made by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Craig R. Heeren and Margaret E. Lee of the Eastern District of New York with assistance from Trial Attorney Joshua Champagne of the National Security Division’s Counterterrorism Section.

#2  Saudi Arabia doesn't have a common border with Syria so there is something missing in this article.

In a sense, it would have been better to let Mr Ahmed get to Syria and join ISIS. If ISIS didn't execute him themselves they would have used him as cannon fodder and we wouldn't have the costs of his care and feeding.

His father said he traveled to Saudi Arabia with Ahmed in June, and then his son left to travel. "We called him and he said he was coming back."

However, the family received a visit from the FBI in June while Ahmed was in Jordan. A law enforcement source said the 22-year-old was initially taken into custody in Jordan. His father sent him a plane ticket and he was released, however, the FBI arrested him Monday.

Seafood tied to more sex and faster conception
[Reuters] Couples who eat a lot of seafood may have sex more often and get pregnant more quickly than those who shun the shellfish and sardines, a U.S. study suggests.

Researchers followed 500 couples in Michigan and Texas for one year, asking them to log their seafood consumption and sexual activity in daily journals. Couples had 39 percent higher odds of having sex on days when both partners ate seafood, the study found.

And by the end of the year, 92 percent of couples who ate seafood more than twice a week had conceived, compared to 79 percent of couples who ate less fish and shellfish. The association between seafood and fertility remained even after accounting for how frequently couples had sex.

"While an increase in sexual activity might be one behavioral mechanism linking seafood intake to higher fecundity, it is not the only mechanism," said lead study author Audrey Gaskins, a nutrition researcher at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health in Boston.

Bolton: Hell Yes, We Were Right to Withdraw From the UN's Embarrassing 'Human Rights' Council
[Townhall] A leftover from yesterday, but worth highlighting -- not only because it's important to praise the administration when it does the right thing (I was on full blast in the opposite direction yesterday), but because it also highlights how quickly the news cycle moves.

It seems like it was just a few short days ago that we were all consumed by the nuclear summit in Singapore, in which National Security Adviser John Bolton played a significant role. That's because...it was just a few short days ago. But because of this needless debacle, the Kim meeting and its aftermath feels like ancient history. In any case, here's Bolton adding some well-deserved attaboys for Amb. Haley and Sec. Pompeo, calling their revival of a correct Bush-era policy 'decades in the making:'

Pat Buchanan: Has The West The Will to Survive?
[WND] "If you’re ... pathetically weak, the country is going to be overrun with millions of people, and if you’re strong, then you don’t have any heart, that’s a tough dilemma. ... I’d rather be strong."

So said President Donald Trump, on issuing his order halting the separation of children from parents caught breaking into the country. Trump’s enemies are celebrating a victory. Yet the issue remains.

Under U.S. law, teenagers and tots cannot be detained for more than 20 days and must be held in the least-restrictive facilities. But if the children cannot be separated from the parents as they await trial, both will have to be released to keep families together.

We are back to "catch and release."

When that welcome news hits Central America, the migrant stream moving north will become a river that never ceases to flow.

The questions America and the West face might thus be framed:

Is there a liberal, progressive, Christian way to seal a 2,000-mile border, halt millions of migrants from crossing it illegally and send intruders back whence they came? Or does the preservation of Western nations and peoples require measures from which liberal societies today reflexively recoil?

Does the survival of the West as a civilization require a ruthlessness the West no longer possess?

Consider what our fathers did to build this country.

Iranian charged with plot to smuggle material from Illinois
[Ynet] A federal indictment accuses a 56-year-old Iranian businessman of trying to smuggle materials used in the missile industry and restricted under nuclear-nonproliferation rules from Illinois to Iran.

Saeed Valadbaigi plotted in 2011 to illegally export aluminum tubing used in both the missile and the aerospace industries from Illinois to Iran by way of Belgium and Malaysia. The eight-count indictment was returned in 2016 but unsealed only this week.

Valadbaigi is considered a fugitive by US authorities. Prosecutors did not provide details on his possible whereabouts.

Rare Gaza Strip Protest Against Hamas Ends In Familiar Way: Violence
[Jpost] Paleostinians in the isolated enclave express frustration over ongoing divide with Abbas-ruled West Bank.

Undercover Hamas, one of the armed feet of the Moslem Brüderbung millipede, operatives attacked Paleostinian protesters on Monday during a march held in Saraya Square in the center of Gazoo City.

The demonstration was part of the Prisoners Movement’s initiative to end the division between Hamas, the armed Islamic group that rules the Gazoo Strip, and Fatah, the political party that dominates the Paleostinian Authority in the West Bank.

Israel fence-crossers arrested: 6 in Jerusalem, 40 from W. Bank
One gets the sense that this happens far more often than is reported...
Israel nabs six Palestinians suspected of damaging Jerusalem security fence

[IsraelTimes] Border Police forces arrest six Palestinian from Bethlehem who are suspected of repeatedly vandalizing the security fence in the Jerusalem area.

Security forces have seen the individuals approach the fence near the southern Jerusalem neighborhood of Har Homa “several times over the past month,” and proceed to cut communication cables attached to the barrier.

The damage was valued at some NIS 100,000 ($28,000).

One of the suspects, who are not identified by name in the police statement, is an Israeli citizen.

All are members of the Hamas terror group, according to police, and several are also suspected of “additional terror actions.”

IDF stops 40 Palestinians from breaching West Bank security fence

The army prevents a large-scale breach of the West Bank’s security fence, arresting some 40 Palestinians who tried to enter Israel near the Palestinian city of Tulkarem a short time ago, the military says.

The suspects have been handed over to the Shin Bet security service for further questioning.

FBI may be biggest loser in investigation of investigations
[YouGov] Investigations don’t seem to help anybody ‐ even if there is no criminal finding. At least that’s what seems to be happening as the public reacts to the Department of Justice’s report on the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s probe into Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton’s emails. Many Americans in the latest Economist/YouGov Poll see her as culpable, though that has been the case all along.

The FBI might be the biggest loser:
Already lower than whale shit
the percentage with a favorable opinion of the Bureau has dropped 11 points since February. The drop comes from all partisan groups ‐ Republicans, Democrats and independents, with Republicans having the most negative views.

The Latest ICE Raid In Ohio Was A Big One
[Hot Air] If the people protesting Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) or even trying to Doxx them thought they were having any impact on the agency’s agenda, those hopes have probably been dashed. ICE is still keeping busy, this time out in the Buckeye State. A raid in Ohio recently saw agents visiting a meatpacking plant where the management mysteriously seems to have not noticed that they literally had more than 100 illegal aliens working there, most of them from Guatemala. After being briefly detained, a number of them were allowed to go free with a court date while the agency looks further into the activities of the employer. (Fox News)

SpaceX scores first Military Falcon HEAVY launch contract!
[SN] WASHINGTON — SpaceX has won its first big-ticket classified military launch contract for the Falcon Heavy rocket. The Air Force awarded SpaceX a $130 million contract for the launch of Air Force Space Command (AFSPC)-52 satellite.

The Falcon Heavy beat United Launch Alliance’s Delta 4 in a competition under the Evolved Expendable Launch Vehicle program. The launch will take place at Kennedy Space Center, Florida.

The Air Force Space and Missile Systems Center in Los Angeles announced the contract award on Thursday. SMC Commander Lt. Gen. John Thompson said this was “another opportunity to foster competition on the EELV program in an effort to reduce launch costs while maintaining assured access to space.”

This is the fifth competitive procurement under the current Phase 1A of the EELV program since SpaceX entered the market to challenge ULA. The $130 million award for the Falcon Heavy launch is considerably lower than the average $350 million price tag for Delta 4 launches.

AFSPC-52 is a classified mission projected to launch in late Fiscal Year 2020.

SpaceX President and Chief Operating Officer Gwynne Shotwell said in a statement that the company is “honored by the Air Force’s selection of Falcon Heavy to launch the competitively-awarded AFSPC-52 mission.” She said the contract award indicates the military’s “trust and confidence” in the company.

Falcon Heavy also in on track to launch the U.S. Air Force’s STP-2 technology demonstration mission, currently scheduled for October.

The Air Force released the solicitation of the AFSPC-52 mission September 28 and proposals were due October 30.

During a meeting with reporters at the Pentagon on Thursday, Lt. Gen. Arnold Bunch Jr., the military deputy for the Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Acquisition, said he was confident that the cost of military launches will continue on a downward path.

“You have to watch what we’ve done. We’ve saved money over time,” Bunch said. “That’s driven some by what we’re doing with competition and also by the commercial demand signal. The two are coupled together.”

Open Letter to School Boards Everywhere: Stop Renaming Your Schools After Obama
[PJ] It was bad enough that pretty much within seconds of Barack Obama winning the presidency there seemed to be a rush to rename schools to honor the newly elected first black president. According to Wikipedia, eighteen schools in fourteen states have so far been named or renamed in honor of the 45th president. According to another Wikipedia article (which is incomplete and out-of-date) Obama already has enough schools named after him to rival John F. Kennedy, Abraham Lincoln, and Thomas Jefferson.

The latest school to jump on the Obama bandwagon is the J. E. B. Stuart Elementary School in Richmond, Virginia. This week, the school board voted 6-1 to rename the predominantly African-American school named after a Confederate general Barack Obama Elementary School.

When the school board first voted to rename the school, seven options were up for consideration, five of which were named for people. Of the five people considered, all but Obama were local figures, including Oliver Hill, a civil rights attorney who played a significant role in ending "separate but equal"; Barbara Johns, a civil rights leader; Albert Norrell, a long-time educator from a family of educators in Richmond for over a century; and Henry Marsh, another civil rights leader and the first African-American mayor of Richmond. Anyone of these would have been a more fitting and deserving individual to have a school named after them. This community clearly values the contributions of civil rights leaders who have had a positive impact on African-Americans, yet they honored a man whose "positive" impact on African-Americans is largely symbolic, and whose actual impact has been negative. In fact, Barack Obama was perhaps the worst president for African-Americans since Lyndon B. Johnson.

Pres. Rouhani: Iranians never surrender to US’ plots, pressures
[EN.ABNA24] President described the state TV, Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB), as being at the forefront of enemies’ psychological war, which is aimed at killing people’s hope and trust, saying: “The national media has a very effective role in creating hope in people and increasing vitality and unity, as well as integrity in the society”.

Speaking in a meeting with IRIB chief and senior managers late on Wednesday, Dr Hassan Rouhani said: “The importance of IRIB is accepted by everybody and interaction between the government and the national media, which is at the heart of intellectual, cultural, social and media issues of the country, is very important”.

Today, social capital is the most valuable thing in the country, said the President adding: “Promoting trust and solidarity between people and the system is an important principle and the national media can have a very effective role in creating hope in the society”.

He also went on to describe IRIB as having a very effective role in national security, saying: “Today, we are in a situation where the most spiteful radical enemies are before the Iranian nation, and because of the 40 years of success in different international, regional and economic stability fields in the recent years, they are spitefully bearing animosity towards not only the system, but also the name and people of Iran”.

Syrian Army cuts northern supply lines to jihadist rebels in northeast Daraa
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and their allies have cut all the northern supply lines to the jihadist rebels in northeast Daraa tonight.

) in the al-Lajat after another round of firefights in northeast Daraa.

As a result of this advance, the Syrian military is close to besieging the rebel forces near the al-Sweida provincial border.

The Syrian Army is working to isolate the rebels in eastern Daraa in order to force them to surrender.

This isolation tactic has been used at several of the Syrian Army’s fronts and it has been criticized by the international community because of the sieges that are created as a result of this military strategy.

In addition to isolating the jihadist rebels, the Syrian military is using their air force to hammer the eastern countryside of Daraa.

Since the start of this week, the Syrian Arab Air Force (SyAAF) has conducted over 60 Arclight airstrikes over the Daraa Governorate.

forces launched a big counter-attack in southwest Hodeideh on Thursday, seizing several areas they lost to the Gulf-backed troops this week.

According to the official media wing of the Houthi forces, their fighters began their counter-attack by storming the Mahlikhi and Majilis areas in southwest Hodeideh.

The Houthi forces managed to retake both of these areas in southwest Hodeideh after a fierce battle with the Yemeni Elite Republican Guard and UAE-backed Southern Resistance Army.

In addition to retaking these sites, the Houthi forces also managed to kill scores of Gulf-backed fighters and seize a large quantity of their weapons that were left behind.

The Houthi forces are attempting to drive back the Gulf-backed troops after spending much of the week on the defensive.

Meanwhile,

at the Hodeideh Airport front, the Houthi forces announced on Thursday morning that they are once again in full control of the installation.

They denied that the Gulf-backed troops ever seized all of the Hodeideh Airport, despite claims by the Yemeni Elite Republican Guard commander.

The Houthi forces released footage from the airport on Tuesday evening in order to corroborate their claims of being in full control.

ISIS to make last stand on large canyon in east Sweida

(ISIS) is facing imminent defeat in east Sweida, as the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and their allies close-in on the terrorist group’s last positions.

Backed by their allies from the National Defense Forces (NDF) and Syrian Social Nationalist Party (SSNP), the Syrian Arab Army has liberated site after site in the eastern countryside of al-Sweida, which has resulted in the exponential reduction of the Islamic State’s Badiya al-Sham pocket.

The Syrian Arab Army and their allies managed to liberate a dozen towns and hills that were occupied by the Islamic State for nearly four years.

Among the areas liberated by the Syrian Army and their allies over the last week were the following towns and hilltops: Tal Tulaywat, Tal Layla, Tal Ajar, Tal Khunayfas, Tal Aqas, Tal Ali, Tal al-Khayl, Tal Umm Janbiris, Khirbat Ambashi, Khirbat Habiriyah, Mushayrifah, and Tal Marar.

As a result of this massive advance, the Syrian Army has liberated over 650 square kilometers of territory from the Islamic State terrorists.

Following these string of losses to the Syrian Arab Army and their allies, the Islamic State has been forced to retreat to the large al-Safa Canyon in eastern al-Sweida.

It is at the al-Safa Canyon where the Islamic State is expected to make their last stand against the Syrian Army and their allies.

For the Syrian Army, they still need to liberate over 1,000 square kilometers in order to fully clear the Islamic State’s remaining pocket in the eastern countryside of al-Sweida.

Egypt calls for precautionary procedures to prevent terrorism reaching Sahel-Saharan states
[AlAhram] Major General Mohammed al-Keshki, assistant minister of defence for external relations, affirmed in Nigeria that Egypt is establishing a Sahel-Saharan counterterrorism headquarters in Cairo

During participation in the 7th meeting of the ministers of defence of the Community of Sahel-Saharan States (CEN-SAD) held in Nigeria from 20-22 June, Egypt has called for precautionary measures to be undertaken to prevent terrorism from reach community member states.

Cairo suggested activating mechanisms of cooperation and coordination between national institutions in these countries and at a regional level within the framework of comprehensive military and security cooperation against the threat of terrorism.

Egypt also warned of the consequences of terrorism infiltrating Sahel-Saharan states in light of rapid developments in the capabilities of terrorist organizations in training and arming, as well as technological advancements and funding sources.

The head of the Egyptian delegation in the meeting, Major General Mohammed al-Keshki, assistant minister of defence for external relations, affirmed the possibility of terrorist organizations transfering their activities from their places of origin to the vicinity of Sahel-Saharan states, especially as conflict settling efforts in some stricken countries appear to be slow moving.

The head of the Egyptian delegation also announced doubling the military aid allocation presented to Sahel-Saharan states and inviting the general secretary of CEN-SAD to visit Egypt.

Al-Keshky affirmed Egypt is establishing a Sahel-Saharan counterterrorism headquarters in Cairo, adding that Egypt will host the annual Sahel-Saharan counterterrorism training effort, in light of Cairo's desire to enhance military cooperation between Sahel-Saharan states.

Al-Keshky also presented Egypt's vision on counterterrorism and the burden it has imposed on military and security institutions, in addition to the political challenges and obstacles that slow social and economic development.

The Egyptian representative referred to Egypt's efforts in peacekeeping in crisis stricken countries in Africa, being one of the countries contributing the most to peacekeeping forces, in light of Cairo's interest in preserving security and stability in the African continent.

CEN-SAD was established in February 1998 by six countries, but then its membership has since grown to 29. One of its main goals is to achieve economic unity through the implementation of the free movement of people and goods, the expanse encompassed by member states a free trade area.

15 fires sweep south in Israel as kite terror continues
[Ynet] Fifteen fires broke out in the western Negev on Thursday afternoon after a group in Gazoo flew across the border incendiary kites and balloons, setting ablaze trees in the Shokeda Forest and the Be'eri Forest as firefighters scrambled to contain the flames.

The IDF confirmed Paleostinian media reports earlier in the afternoon that Israeli jets shot at a group of incendiary kite and balloon flyers east of Rafah in the southern Gazoo Strip. No one was injured in attack.

The latest fires add to the hundreds that have already swept through thousands of acres of Israeli landscape as tensions between the Hamas, the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood,-ruled enclave and the IDF show little sign of waning.

Gaza currency exchange recognized as terror organization

[Ynet] Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman signed a decree Thursday proclaiming a currency exchange company in Gazoo to be a terror organization. According to the Shin Bet, the company provides significant assistance to Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, and is central in providing funding for their terror activities.

He added that the ambushers were seeking to import narcotics from the southeastern borderlines and two regions in Zabul in Zahedan in Sistan-Baluchestan Province simultaneously and Iranian armed forces clashed with them.

Rezaei said the armed forces also managed to confiscate considerable amount of light and heavy weapons and munitions, military and telecommunication equipment.

Merkel urges solution to Iran’s ‘aggressive tendencies’ in Iran, Syria
[ALMASDARNEWS] German Chancellor Angela Merkel
...chancellor of Germany and the impetus behind Germany's remarkably ill-starred immigration program. Merkel used to be referred to by Germans as Mom. Now they make faces at her for inundating the country with Moslems ..
discussed the Iranian nuclear deal amidst a host of other issues facing the Middle East with King Abdullah II of Jordan, while at a presser in Amman on Thursday.

"We on the European side say that we want to preserve the Iranian nuclear deal. Of course we have a lot in common when it comes to the issue of ballistic rocket programs, the presence in Syria, the war in Yemen, where aggressive tendencies of Iran must not only be discussed but where we urgently need solutions," Merkel said.
Mutti didn't actually suggest any solutions...
King Abdullah thanked Germany for understanding "the great burden of the Syria refugee crisis" and for being the largest donor of the Brussels conference.

In addition, Abdullah stressed that "There can be no peace, nor stability in the region without a just and lasting solution that leads to the establishment of an independent Paleostinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, living side by side with Israel in peace and security."
The king didn't suggest how that might come to pass. We can see how it's not coming.
Merkel echoed his remarks by saying it is of central interest to Jordan "to resolve the situation of Paleostinian refugees, who have already been here for a very long time, by accepting a two-state solution."

Manbij Military Council keeps close watch on Turkish patrols, US staying
[Rudaw] Manbij Military Council (MMC) fighters are closely watching Ottoman Turkish patrols across the Sajur River that serves as a demarcation line between them.

"The Ottoman Turkish patrol came to this area yesterday. They remained there for about an hour at their most forward positions. Then they returned. There are no new bases or positions at all," said Hussein al-Rayis of the MMC.

Under an agreement between the US and The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
, forces of the two nations are conducting independent patrols.

US officials have said that Turkey will not enter the city of Manbij.

"Manbij Military Council is in control of all the area, and so this will just be basically along the northern demarcation line is where the conflict will take to it," coalition spokesperson US Army Col. Sean Ryan told journalists on Tuesday.

An MMC commander, however, says they haven't been able to get a promise from the international coalition concerning the fate of the town.

"The coalition has discussed the guarantees it talks about with us. There are press statements only to calm the situation on the part of the international coalition," said deputy MMC head Abu Ali Najim.

The details of the US-Turkey plan for Manbij have not been publicly released.

For now, a tense quiet prevails over the contested city.

We are staying in Manbij: US general

[Rudaw] A top US general visited Manbij on Thursday, assuring the people and local officials that American forces will remain in the city.

"We are staying here to fend off any danger against the city," said US CENCTOM commander, Joseph Votel, according to ANHA news.

Accompanied by members of the Manbij Military Council (MMC), Votel walked around the city, visiting the town’s bazaar and the city’s administration building, holding a meeting with local officials. The US delegation also included Under Secretary of Defense for Policy John Rood, coalition commander Gen. Paul E. Funk, and coalition special operations commander Maj. Gen. Jamie Jarrard.

The visit comes a few days after the start of coordinated patrols by Ottoman Turkish and American forces near Manbij as part of the roadmap agreed by Washington and Ankara.

The American delegation stressed to the MMC that the Ottoman Turkish patrols will remain in areas controlled by Euphrates Shield forces ‐ Syrian militias west of the Euphrates River.

"The patrols aim at preventing violations and direct festivities between the Manbij Military Council and the mercenaries of the Ottoman Turkish occupation," said MMC commander Mohammed Abu Adil, ANHA reported.

In video, Adil could be seen telling Votel that Manbij is more secure than the Euphrates Shield areas: "Compared to neighboring areas like Jarabulus, al-Bab, Azaz, and Afrin, the area that has stability and security is the city of Manbij."

Manbij has become a flashpoint between the US and The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
, who has demanded that the Kurdish YPG forces must leave the area.

The MMC led operations to liberate Manbij from ISIS in 2016 alongside the YPG-led SDF.

Turkey considers the YPG a branch of the PKK and has threatened to fight the Kurdish force across Rojava, northern Syria.

Tongo murdered for saying Mugabe would be ‘total disaster’ for Zim; Dabengwa
[NEWZIMBABWE] REVERED Zanu wartime guerrilla commander Josiah Tongogara was killed by his colleagues sympathetic to former President Bob Muggsy Mugabe
Nonagenarian President-for-Life of Zim-bob-we who turned the former Breadbasket of Africa into the African Basket Case. Dumped in November 2017 when the Missus decided she wanted to be president, and opposed heer might against Crocodile Mnangawa Important safety tip: If your opponent goes by the name Crocodile andf your title is Shopper in Chief let him win....
According to Zapu’s liberation war intelligence supremo Dumiso Dabengwa, Tongogara had openly argued against Mugabe leading the then proposed Patriotic Front bringing together the two guerrilla movements.

"He had almost openly said it. That he believed (late Vice President Joshua) Nkomo was a natural leader and had the focus while Mugabe would only be good as an administrator maybe secretary general of the Patriotic Front.

"Unfortunately he said it out in informal discussions with other people," said Dabengwa.

He said Tongogara who died supposedly in a freak car accident on December 26 1979 a few weeks before Zim-bob-we attained independence had argued a Mugabe leadership would be a disaster.

"He said it would be a total disaster and told me he was not saying it to please anyone but that is what he believed.

"He was angry when it was decided that the issue would be settled when we arrive home from London (during Lancaster House negotiations). He wanted the issue settled there because all stakeholders including the military were represented," Dabengwa added.

The former Home Affairs Minister said efforts to revive the unity pact with senior Zanu guerrilla fighters like Solomon Mujuru and Vitalis Zvinavashe met with resistance.

"They were dodgy and this went on until after the election results had been announced. Ikoko by then had ordered (another late former Vice President Joseph) Msika to register Zapu as a political competitor in the 1980 elections," he said.

As fate would have it Mugabe would decide to go it alone during the 1980 elections, win power and rule with an iron fist for 37 years before he was forced to resign by the army last November. Mugabe’s leadership as Tongogara had "prophesied" was indeed an unmitigated disaster as he left a once thriving economy left in his hands by the Rhodesians in ruins.

According to the official media wing of the Tiger Forces, the Jordanian Army was photographed making their way through northern Jordan and taking up positions near the Syrian border

This move by the Jordanian Army comes just days after the Syrian Arab Army moved thousands of military personnel to the al-Quneitra and Dara’a governorates.

Jeff Sessions: Peter Strzok No Longer Has Security Clearance
[Breitbart] Disgraced FBI agent Peter Strzok no longer possesses his security clearance, Attorney General Jeff Sessions said Thursday.

"Mr. Strzok ‐ as I understand ‐ has lost his security clearance," the country’s top law enforcement officer told radio host Howie Carr.

The admission follows multiple reports stating the former FBI Deputy Head of Counterintelligence was escorted from the bureau’s headquarters on Friday as part of an internal disciplinary measure.

Aitan Goelman, an attorney for the former FBI investigator, told the Washington Post Sunday that his client intends to appear before the House Judiciary Committee, along with other Congressional committees, without immunity or invoking the Fifth Amendment.

The Justice Department watchdog report released last week concluded Strzok had shown "bias," during the FBI’s investigation into Hillary Clinton’s private email use.
There is likely more to this story (loss of security access) than 'bias'.... but excellent! Now what about Page, Comey, McCabe, Clinton, Abaden, FBI agents who accepted 'gifts' and all the others ?

Lingering question; I know it sounds crazy, but any chance a few of Strzok's cohorts may still be employed on the Robert Mueller investigative team? Oh wait....

Egypt's army kills 32 takfiris, arrests dozens in Sinai operation

Yez got nuttin' on me, coppers! Nuttin'!
dozens of suspects in an ongoing crackdown in Sinai, the army said in a statement on Thursday.

The attacks are part of a major security operation, Operation Sinai 2018, which involves the army, navy, air force and police and which was launched in February to target and destroy "terrorist and criminal elements and organizations" in northern and central Sinai, parts of the Nile Delta and the country's Western Desert.

Army forces killed 12 "very dangerous" armed terrorist elements during raids in northern and central Sinai, while police personnel killed 20 others and arrested three, army front man Tamer El-Refaie said.

The armed forces’ front man announced the deaths in a video communiqué published on the Egyptian military's official Facebook page on Tuesday. The statement said the turbans were killed over the past few days.

The air force, which has been conducting Arclight airstrikes in northern and central Sinai since the operation started, also recently destroyed 21 targets and two vehicles loaded with weapons in North Sinai, the front man said.

The Arabic word "takfiri" refers to hardline Sunni Moslems who accuse other Moslems of being infidels, often as a justification for using violence against them.

The deaths bring the total number of those killed since the operation began to more than 300, including at least 37 military personnel, according to calculations based on military statements.

The front man added that nine "very dangerous" turbans and 84 criminal runaways have been arrested in recent days, while 1099 people of different nationalities have been captured while attempting to enter Egypt illegally through the country's western border with Libya.

Forces have also recently destroyed 272 hideouts used by turbans to store weapons in central and northern Sinai, and a weapon cache near the country’s western border.

Military engineers have discovered and destroyed 15 bombs planted to target forces at operation sites, he added.

Security forces have also recently uncovered and destroyed more than two dozen farms used to grow banned narcotics.

Bomb thrown at Israeli guards at Tomb of the Patriarchs; no injuries
[IsraelTimes] In second incident this week, Hebron attacker flees scene; explosives land in adjacent Paleostinian courtyard

An improvised bomb was thrown at Israeli security forces at the entrance of the Tomb of the Patriarchs in the West Bank city of Hebron on Thursday night in the second incident this week, police said. The attacker expeditiously departed at a goodly pace after throwing the pipe bomb at a border guard station just outside the tomb. There were no injuries.

The pipe bomb missed its target and fell into a Paleostinian resident’s courtyard adjacent to the security station, police said.

Police said they were searching the area for the perpetrator and had opened an investigation into the incident.

A similar incident took place on Tuesday outside the Tomb of the Patriarchs. There were no injuries when the culprit threw improvised explosives at Israeli border guards outside the flashpoint site. The suspect was not apprehended.

Israel deploys electronic eye to track fire kites and balloons from Gaza
[IsraelTimes] Sky Spotter can identify incoming airborne incendiaries, enabling drones to try intercept them, and giving firefighters advance warning; laser system also being developed

Facing a wave of airborne incendiary attacks from the Gazoo Strip, Israel has deployed a system that can spot fire-starting balloons and kites in the sky, track their progress, and then direct firefighters to their landing spots, enabling them to more rapidly extinguish the flames and reduce damage.

Since March 30, Paleostinians in the Gazoo Strip have launched hundreds of kites and helium balloons bearing flammable materials, and occasionally explosives, sparking near-daily fires that have burned thousands of acres of land in southern Israel.

Israeli officials are concerned that if the fire attacks don’t stop ‐ or aren’t foiled ‐ they could push an escalation in violence that would lead to a major military confrontation with terror groups in the Gazoo Strip.

The Sky Spotter system, built by Rafael Advanced Defense Systems, has been in operation along the Gazoo border for several days, Hadashot TV news reported Thursday.

Originally developed to counter small drones, Sky Spotter can track the balloons or kites and pinpoint their location, where they are heading, and where they are likely to land. The operators then notify firefighters, who can then try to reach the landing points to put out the flames before they spread.

Sky Spotter can also be used to direct defensive drones that collide in midair with the kites or balloons, bringing them down.

Until now such drones have been flown by army reservists, experts in drone operation, but the system will soon be able to control the drones automatically, directing them to the threats.

The arson assaults, in which Paleostinians launch kites or helium filled balloons carrying flaming material to be blown by the wind into Israeli territory, have devastated large areas. In total, approximately 17,500 dunams (4,300 acres, or nearly 7 square miles) of land have been burned in more than 250 fires over the past two months, more than half of it in nature reserves, according to initial assessments.

As well as Sky Spotter, testing has continued on a laser system that could be used to shoot down the balloons or kites in flight. Development is advancing, Thursday’s report said, and this system is expected to soon be deployed around Gazoo.

Israeli PM's wife charged with fraud, breach of trust
They keep trying, but thus far nothing has stuck. So we’ll see whether this effort is any different.
[EN.ABNA24] Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's wife, Sara, has been indicted for aggregated fraud and breach of trust over the misuse of public funds at their official residence.

According to the indictment released by the Israeli "justice ministry" on Thursday, Sara Netanyahu, along with a regime employee, fraudulently ordered hundreds of meals worth $100,000 from gourmet restaurants between 2010 and 2013 in violation of rules barring such practice when the prime minister's residence has a cook.

The Israeli premier's wife further directed the residency workers to hide the employment of a cook "so that this won't be found out by the treasury and the office manager," according to the indictment.

In recent months, Netanyahu’s attorneys have tried to reach a settlement that would see no criminal indictment but the return of the funds.

However,
a person who gets all wrapped up in himself makes a mighty small package...
Israeli Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit rejected any settlement because Sara Netanyahu is also a suspect in Case 4000, which involves suspicions the prime minister advanced regulations benefiting Bezeq telecom’s owner in exchange for flattering coverage from Bezeq’s Walla news site.

Sara Netanyahu has long faced allegations of abusive behavior and living extravagantly.

In Turkey's pious heartland, faith in Erdogan trumps economy worries
[GEO.TV] In a dusty business park in Konya, The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...just another cheapjack Moslem dictatorship, brought to you by the Moslem Brüderbund....
’s conservative industrial heartland, Ahmet Hakan Umit sells imported machine tools that are quickly becoming too expensive for his customers.

Sales are down as much as 30 percent this year as a deep dive in the lira currency has pushed up the cost of the computerised lathes he imports from Asia.

"I’m scared. Even one deal falling through can mean a huge setback," the 25-year-old finance director of Umit Makina said looking out on a showroom filled with Samsung machine tools costing as much as $350,000 (£264,222) each.

President Tayyip Erdogan’s comments that he wanted greater control of monetary policy after Sunday’s elections sparked the lira’s latest sell-off, forcing the central bank to hike rates aggressively.

But the currency’s 20-percent slide and higher interest rates don’t appear to have eroded the support in Konya for Erdogan and his Islamist-rooted AK Party, thanks to religious loyalty and a newfound prosperity over the party’s 16-year rule.

Umit doesn’t plan to vote for the AKP in the parliamentary and presidential vote, but he expects it to win.

"Many firms are unhappy right now, but people will keep voting for the same government."

Known as one of Turkey’s most pious places, Konya has been a bulwark of support for the AKP: nearly 75 percent of the city’s votes in 2015 parliamentary elections went to the ruling party.

The city of 2 million has more recently become a symbol of what can be achieved in the long-neglected central Anatolian heartland, boosted by the AKP’s 47 billion lira ($10 billion) of investments including roads, hospitals and industrial zones.

Under Erdogan, Konya and neighbouring cities have become known as "Anatolian tigers" for their fast growth and entrepreneurial zeal.

They are also home to a new class of conservative industrialists who, like Erdogan, see themselves as at odds with the secular establishment that dominated society and business for decades and shut out the religious Turks who form the backbone of AKP support.

The most popular, and divisive
...politicians call things divisive when when the other side sez something they don't like. Their own statements are never divisive, they're principled...
, politician in modern Ottoman Turkish history, Erdogan has more recently overseen a widening crackdown against opponents, further unnerving global investors.

Monitor group: Hezbollah is pulling back from Israel-Syria border, Iran isn’t
[IsraelTimes] Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says Iranian-backed terror group withdrawing to positions 40 kilometers from boundary at Russian request, but Iran refusing to do the same

A Syrian war monitor group said Thursday that Hezbollah units deployed in Syria were pulling back dozens of kilometers from the Israeli border in response to a request from Russia, but that Iran was refusing to do the same with its forces in the area.

The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, citing what it described as "reliable sources," said that the Lebanese terror group and its allied button men have begun withdrawing to positions 40 kilometers (25 miles) away for the border, and a similar distance from the Jordanian-Syrian border.

Russia, Iran and its proxy Hezbollah have been providing military assistance to the regime of Syrian Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Oppressor of the Syrians and the Lebs...
as it battles against rebel groups in a civil war that is in its eighth year.

Israel has repeatedly said it wants Iran and the militias it is backing to withdraw from the border area, and recent media reports have said that Jerusalem had reached an agreement on the matter with Moscow.

The reported Hezbollah retreat came in response to a Russian demand that Iran and Hezbollah pull back, the Observatory said, and was the result of Moscow’s talks with "regional parties."

However,
those who apply themselves too closely to little things often become incapable of great things...
the report said, Iran is refusing to pull back its own military forces from southern Syria unless there is a corresponding evacuation of US and international coalition forces from the al-Tanf base on the Syrian-Iraqi border. The US and its allies have been backing moderate rebel groups in the civil war as well as carrying out strikes against the Islamic State

group.

Sources told the Observatory that the Russians have given the go-ahead for the Jordanians and Americans to hold talks with "factions" to reach an agreement on south Syria. The report did not specify which of the multiple groups vying for control of the area would be involved in the talks.

The reported development came as the Syrian army intensified its shelling of rebel strongholds in Daraa province, and neighboring Quneitra, in southern Syria.

According to reports, over 90 Afghan security force members have been killed in the past two days in festivities with the Taliban in Badghis, Farah, Faryab and Ghazni provinces.

A number of former military officers have meanwhile criticized President Ashraf Ghani
...former chancellor of Kabul University, now president of Afghanistan. Before returning to Afghanistan in 2002 he was a scholar of political science and anthropology. for his extended unilateral ceasefire with the Taliban and accused him of not having effective monitoring procedures of gangs in insecure regions in place.

"A ceasefire means we are prepared around the clock and we must closely monitor our enemies in terms of intelligence," said former military officer Atiqullah Amarkhail.

The Taliban resumed attacks on the Afghan forces immediately after their Eid ceasefire ended late Sunday.

The latest in a string of attacks by the Taliban on Afghan forces was in Bala Murghab and Abkamari districts of Badghis on Thursday. At least 40 members of the Afghan cops were killed in these attacks.

"They (Taliban) misused the mercy of the government forces, but the security forces taught them such a great lesson that they had never seen before," said General Fahim Qaeem, the Badghis police commander.

The Taliban have also expanded their attacks in Khwaja Sabz Posh District of Faryab. The Taliban killed at least ten security force members in these attacks.

Reports indicate that the group also launched fresh attacks on Afghan cops in some parts of Farah province over the past two days.

Security forces said at least 18 members of the Afghan police and army were killed in Bala Buluk and Lash Wa Juwayn Districts.

"People are very distressed, the central government should focus on Farah," said Dadullah Qane, a Farah provincial council member.

"Over 12 vehicles belonging to the enemies were destroyed," said Mohibullah Mohib, the front man for Farah police headquarters.

Afghan defense officials meanwhile said security forces have dealt major blows to the group during the recent attacks.

"We have used all our resources to crush the enemies of Afghanistan who are waging war, we killed dozens of krazed killer who violated the ceasefire," said defense ministry front man Mohammad Radmanish.

Violence has also increased in Uruzgan, Nangarhar

and Ghazni provinces since Monday, officials said.

On Sunday Ghani ordered an extension of the ceasefire but said security forces must remain on the defensive.

Hamas paid family to claim Gaza baby was killed by Israeli tear gas
[Times of Israel] A 20-year-old Palestinian indicted Thursday on terror-related charges told Israeli investigators during his interrogation that Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar paid his relatives to falsely tell the media that his baby cousin died of tear gas inhalation.

The story of baby Layla Ghandour's death, purportedly from inhaling tear gas fired by Israel at the Gaza border, made headlines around the world last month and intensified global criticism of Israel's handling of Hamas-spurred violence at the fence.

On May 28, IDF forces arrested Mahmoud Omar along with another member of Fatah's armed wing, the Al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades, after they attempted to infiltrate into Israel and torch an unmanned IDF post, the Southern District Attorney's indictment against him said.

Omar had been acting as the lookout while two other members of his squad were to cut through the fence and cross into Israel. The group did not manage to carry out the attack as they came under IDF fire. Israeli forces captured Omar and one other accomplice, while the third attacker managed to flee, according to the indictment.

The group did not manage to carry out the attack as they came under IDF fire. Israeli forces captured Omar and one other accomplice, while the third attacker managed to flee, according to the indictment.

IDF troops found wire-cutters as well as a bottle of gasoline and a video camera at the scene.

During his questioning, Omar told interrogators the details of the planned attack and detailed his involvement in other terror-related activities. The suspect also disclosed that he was related to Layla Ghandour, the 8-month-old baby whose May 14 death was originally reported to have been caused by inhalation of tear gas sprayed by Israeli forces at Gaza border protesters. The story of the baby's purported death at the hands of Israel dominated global media at the time, becoming one of the central elements of reporting on Palestinian opposition to the May 14 inauguration of the US embassy in Jerusalem.

According to the indictment, Omar told authorities that two weeks prior to his arrest, he was among the 40,000 Gazans taking part in the May 14 protests at the border when his mother called to inform him that his baby cousin had died.

Upon arriving home shortly thereafter, the suspect was told that Layla had died of a blood disease similar to the one that took the life of the deceased infant's brother, who succumbed to the condition at the same age in 2017.

However, Omar told authorities, Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar paid Layla's parents, Miriam and Anwar Ghandour, NIS 8,000 ($2,206) to tell the media that the infant had died due to tear gas inhalation at the Gaza protests.

Ansarullah Leader: We welcomed UN supervision of Hodeidah port, but they are liars
[EN.ABNA24] Leader of the Yemeni Revolution, Sayyed Abdulmalik al-Houthi, on Wednesday said he has offered the UN envoy Martin Griffiths in his recent visit to Sanaa to place Hodeidah port under the United Nations
...an idea whose time has gone...
supervision.

"We welcomed a supervisory, technical and logistical role of the United Nations on the port of Hodeidah, but they are liars, they just made baseless justifications", Sayyed al-Houthi
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The Yemeni government has accused the Houthis of having ties to the Iranian government, which wouldn't suprise most of us. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews ...
said in a speech to the nation aired by al-Masira satellite TV.

The leader vowed to resist the US-backed Saudi-led aggression coalition, affirming that "Britannia, La Belle France and other European countries involving in support to the coalition’s assault will be confronted too."

"The foreign military assault on the western coast has not begun six days ago as the coalition’s media claims, but it has started more than two years ago."

The aggression forces have mobilized all their efforts, money and weapons for the western coast battle and the geographical factors have helped them to progress in the coastal strip, as an open area, Sayyed al-Houthi added.

Sayyed al-Houthi noted that the coalition forces have suffered heavy losses in the battle and lost military leaders, including senior Saudi, Emirati, American and Israeli officers, who were part of "Blackwater" troops.

"The battles have not stopped over 32 months in the western coast from Bab al-Mandab area until the recent period in Duraihmi and al-Dawar areas," al-Houthi said.

He confirmed that the coming battles will be more difficult and painful for the aggression forces.

"A large area of the coast is still free under the control of the people, the army and the popular committees," Sayyed al-Houthi said.

Sayyed al-Houthi said that "the aggression forces claim that Iran’s missiles come through the port of Hodeidah, although all ships entering the port are strictly inspected by both the United Nations and the coalition in Djibouti."

"More than 400 items of essential goods have been banned by the aggression forces from entering the port without any fair justification," he added.

"We target battleships that threaten the Yemeni coast and back the coalition aggression on Hodeidah," Sayyed al-Houthi explained.

He underlined that the coalition’s air bombing on headquarters of humanitarian and relief organizations is what poses a threat to relief work in Yemen.

Sayyed al-Houthi described the position of the coalition forces in the western coast as miserable, saying that they are "besieged and targeted at every moment."

"All the field penetrations will remain confrontable, and our will will never be broken," Sayyed said.

Charles Krauthammer 1950 - 2018
[FOX] Charles Krauthammer, a longtime Fox News contributor, Pulitzer Prize winner, Harvard-trained psychiatrist and best-selling author who came to be known as the dean of conservative commentators, has died. He was 68.

His death had been expected after he wrote a heartbreaking letter to colleagues, friends and viewers on June 8 that said in part "I have been uncharacteristically silent these past ten months. I had thought that silence would soon be coming to an end, but I’m afraid I must tell you now that fate has decided on a different course for me...

""Recent tests have revealed that the cancer has returned. There was no sign of it as recently as a month ago, which means it is aggressive and spreading rapidly. My doctors tell me their best estimate is that I have only a few weeks left to live. This is the final verdict. My fight is over."

In recent years, Krauthammer was best known for his nightly appearance as a panelist on Fox News’ "Special Report with Bret Baier" and as a commentator on various Fox news shows.

But Krauthammer was arguably a Renaissance man, achieving mastery in such disparate fields as psychiatry, speech-writing, print journalism and television. He won the Edwin Dunlop Prize for excellence in psychiatric research and clinical medicine. Journalism honors included the Pulitzer Prize for Commentary for his Washington Post columns in 1987 and the National Magazine Award for his work at The New Republic in 1984. His book, "Things That Matter: Three Decades of Passions, Pastimes and Politics," instantly became a New York Times bestseller, remaining in the number one slot for 10 weeks, and on the coveted list for nearly 40.

Krauthammer delivered his views in a mild-mannered yet steady and almost philosophical style, befitting his background in psychiatry and detailed analysis of human behavior. Borrowing from that background, Krauthammer said in 1990, after the fall of the Berlin Wall, that the post-Cold War world had gone from bipolar to "unipolar," with the United States as the sole superpower. He also coined the term "The Reagan Doctrine," among others.

Krauthammer harbored no compunction about calling out those in power, whether they were Democrats or Republicans or conservatives.

Saddam Hussein’s daughter mourns father’s deputy Douri: source
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The daughter of Iraq’s late president Saddam Hussein has mourned the death of his former deputy, Izzat al-Douri, who the news about his survival have been conflicting.

A source close to the lawyer of Raghad Saddam Hussein, Haytham al-Hersh, was quoted by Iraqi website Sky Press saying that the lawyer had been asked by his client to send a condolence message to the family of Izzat al-Douri.

According to the source, Douri died of a hematological illness at a Tunisian hospital.

Douri’s exact whereabouts have been unknown since a U.S. invasion of Iraq in 2003 toppled former leader Saddam Hussein. Occasional reports have been made of his death but none were confirmed.

A video was shared in April, featuring Duri in a speech commemorating the establishment of the now-defunct Baath Party, which he claimed to have been from Baghdad. He warned of "a popular armed revolt to eliminate the traitors". He blamed the current authorities for the death of millions of Iraqis and destruction of Iraqi cities.

Contractor-Owned MQ-9 Reaper Drones Will Watch Over Marines in Afghanistan
[TheDrive] The U.S. Navy has awarded General Atomics a contract worth more than $39.5 million to fly its own MQ-9 Reaper drones to keep watch over a U.S. Marine task force in Afghanistan, a possible plan The War Zone Was first to report on in January 2018. The deal comes as the Marines are sending personnel to train with the U.S. Air Force on operating these same drones as the former service moves ahead in developing its own large, multi-purpose unmanned aircraft.

The Pentagon announced the Navy had followed through on its initial proposal in its daily contracting announcement on June 19, 2018. According to that notice, the arrangement involves work in Yuma, Arizona, home to a Marine Corps Air Station, and Poway, California, where General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. has its headquarters, as well as in Afghanistan.

All of this will be in direct support of the Marine’s Task Force Southwest. This element is advising and assisting Afghan troops in the notorious Helmand province and in neighboring Nimroz province, both of which are situated along the border with Pakistan.

Medicaid fraud exploded after Obamacare expansion: GOP report
[Wash Times] Medicaid fraud has risen and bogus payments have more than doubled since Obamacare expanded the government’s chief health insurance program for the poor, topping $37 billion a year, according to a new report released Wednesday by the Senate’s chief watchdog committee.

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), which oversees the program, doesn’t even have an anti-fraud strategy, and has ignored 11 separate recommendations by the Government Accountability Office over the last three years to combat fraud, the Republicans said on the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee said.

California alone paid out $1 billion in sketchy payments, yet the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), which oversees the program, told Congress it didn’t see any urgency in trying to go after the money.

Making efforts to collect that money should be a start for CMS, said the GOP staffers, in a report issued by committee Chairman Ron Johnson, Wisconsin Republican.

"CMS is not effectively policing Medicaid fraud," the committee’s Republican staff said in the new report, blaming program directors going back more than a decade.

...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
(Pakistain Hamdard Party) that is supporting our candidates," he said.

VA Hospital Replaces Military Flags with Gay Pride Flag
[Todd Starnes] The VA hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana is making national headlines after they temporarily replaced flags representing the branches of the military with the Gay Pride flag.

The VA acknowledged the controversy, but defended its decision to temporarily remove the Service Flags.

"Due to limitations in the number of flag poles outside our VA, the Service Flags were lowered temporarily," a statement read. "Rather than take one flag down temporarily, it was determined to lower all the flags so as to be equal."

Television station WANE reports the Gay Pride flag was only scheduled to fly for a day to "signify that we treat all our veterans equally."

Gay Pride Flag in Veterans Park Stirs Controversy
"We are flying the flag that represents and honors these veterans as a display of solidarity and respect for their service," the statement read. "We all serve this nation."

Dozens of readers weighed in on the controversy at DisabledVeterans.org.
