Hillary Clinton caught in lie: Benghazi committee contradicts claim of no subpoena
The House Select Committee on Benghazi released Wednesday the March 4 subpoena for former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton's emails, refuting her claim in a national TV interview that she was never subpoenaed.

The subpoena was issued directly to Mrs. Clinton after lawmakers became aware that she exclusively used personal email and an email server kept in her home for official business as America's top diplomat, which removed her correspondence form the custody of the State Department and shielded it form being accessed by congressional investigators or public requests under the Freedom of Information Act, according to the committee.

"The committee has issued several subpoenas, but I have not sought to make them public," said Rep. Trey Gowdy, chairman of the committee. "I would not make this one public now, but after Secretary Clinton falsely claimed the committee did not subpoena her, I have no choice in order to correct the inaccuracy."

In an interview Tuesday with CNN, Mrs. Clinton insisted that she had not been subpoenaed for the email when she deleted more than 30,000 email she deemed personal and then wiped clean the server to prevent the email from being restored.

Mrs. Clinton turned over to the State Department about 55,000 pages of emails that she hand-picked to be reviewed and potentially released by agency.

"I've never had a subpoena," Mrs. Clinton said in the interview, which was her first national TV interview since entering the presidential race three months ago.

At least 18 killed in Algerian ethnic clashes
At least 18 people have been killed in clashes between Arabs and Berbers in Algeria's desert town of Ghrdaia, with several businesses burned down, medical sources and state media said on Wednesday.

The violence broke out over the weekend, with security forces sending reinforcements in a bid to calm down the renewed clashes that first took place in late 2013. Clashes intensified on Monday and Tuesday night.

Syria parliament approves deal for Iranian credit
[AlAhram] Syria's parliament on Tuesday approved a deal with Iran under which Tehran will provide the government a new line of credit worth $1 billion, state media said.

The credit line will be the third that Tehran has extended to Damascus since the conflict in Syria erupted with anti-government protests in March 2011.

"The People's Council today approved a deal on a line of credit of $1 billion," which was signed on May 19 in Damascus by Syria's Commercial Bank and the Export Development Bank of Iran, the official SANA news agency said.

It said the credit would be used for "importing merchandise and carrying out projects," without giving further details.

That's the problem - it isnt and so the mass of people are not informed, or worse they are informed completely opposite fo what is happening.

A democracy depends on a well informed populace, and this one is being actively and deliberately maliciously misinformed. Politicians are weasels and expected to go crooked. In the design of this republic, the press is not supposed to be an organ of the state of of a specific party or movement. Yet is has become just such a thing, even more surely than Pravda and Isvestia ever were, because the US press has voluntarily put on the yoke and the blinders.

When the republic falls, I hope the press are the first ones hung from trees, by their own entrails preferably - publishers and editors first.

Federal Agent's gun used in San Francisco pier slaying
[AP] SAN FRANCISCO - The gun used in the seemingly random slaying of a woman on a San Francisco pier belonged to a federal agent, a law enforcement official briefed on the matter said Tuesday.

The official, who was not authorized to speak publicly about the case and spoke on condition of anonymity, said a police check of the weapon's serial number shows it belonged to a federal agent. The official declined to elaborate further.

The San Francisco Police Department, which is investigating the case, declined to comment.

The revelation was the latest dramatic twist in a tragic case that has become a new flashpoint in the country's debate over immigration policies.

The suspected gunman, Juan Francisco Lopez Sanchez, has been deported to his native Mexico five times and is suspected of living in the United States illegally when Kathryn Steinle, 32, was gunned down last week while on an evening stroll with her father along San Francisco's popular waterfront area.

Federal officials transferred Sanchez to San Francisco's jail in March to face a 20-year-old marijuana charge after Sanchez completed his latest prison term for illegally entering the country.

The San Francisco sheriff, citing the city's "sanctuary city" policy, released Sanchez in April after prosecutors dropped the drug charge, despite an Immigration and Customs Enforcement request to hold him for federal authorities so deportation proceedings could begin.

Sanchez pleaded not guilty Tuesday to first-degree murder.
A very interesting twist, which might explain the notable absence of regime anti-gun rhetoric that usually accompanies such shootings. Sanchez currently in good health is he ?

It's a Progressive-run city. With Progressive-initiated, touted, and enforced policies - like "immigration sanctuaries." The shooter was released, thanks to those policies.

The shooting happened in a well-known and well-patronized tourist area. A significant percentage of the Progressive-run city's revenue is from tourism.

And now we have a murder weapon that "belonged to a Federal agent," in a Progressive-run city.

25 Dead in Suspected Suicide Attack in Zaria, Northern Nigeria
[AnNahar] At least 25 people were killed when a kaboom destroyed a packed government office in Zaria, northern Nigeria, on Tuesday, in a suspected suicide kaboom likely to be blamed on Boko Haram

The kaboom occurred at about 9:00 am (0800 GMT), as primary school teachers and public sector workers were queuing for identity checks, according to witnesses.

"I am sad to confirm that an IED (improvised bomb) most likely carried by a jacket wallah went kaboom! in the Sabon Gari LG (local government district) and killed 25 people, including a two-year-old," Kaduna state governor Nasir El-Rufai said. El-Rufai added in the statement posted on his Facebook account that 32 others were maimed and were being treated in hospital.

Zaria, a mainly Moslem city some 75 kilometers (47 miles) north of the state capital Kaduna city, is near the border with Katsina and Kano states.

On Monday night, a young girl believed to be aged just 13 was killed when explosives strapped to her body detonated near a major mosque in Kano city. "The woman ... alighted near a military check point in Sabon Gari where she blew herself up and killed four other people," witness Maikaho Abdu told AFP.

He said the attack happened at Sabon Gari village, along Gombe road, some 110 kilometers (68 miles) from Maiduguri, the state capital.

Egypt dissolves 14 Brotherhood-linked NGOs
[AlAhram] Up to 434 NGOs have been closed by court order so far, according to the Ahram Arabic news website

Social Solidarity Minister Ghada Waly dissolved 14 non-governmental organizations (NGOs) on Tuesday in Minya, Beni Suef and Damietta for being associated with the outlawed Moslem Brüderbund group, the Ahram Arabic news website reported.

Twenty-one other NGOs in Qena, Fayoum and Daqahliya will have a new board of directors, so that they do not stop offering their social services.

The decision follows a 2013 court decision to ban the Brotherhood's activities and to seize the assets of Brotherhood-linked organizations, the minister said. On 23 September 2013, the Cairo Court for Urgent Matters ordered a ban on Moslem Brüderbund activities, as well as the interim government's seizure of the group's assets and funds, with a panel to manage the frozen assets.

In November of the same year, Egypt outlawed the Moslem Brüderbund, labeling it a terrorist organization.

Waly said that the NGOs were dissolved after consulting the Union of Non-Governmental Organisations and Institutions. The decisions have not been applied yet, as an inventory is still being prepared of the concerned NGOs' assets.

This is the fifth time that NGOs have been dissolved for the same reasons this year, after 169 organizations were dissolved for the first time in February. Up to 434 NGOs have been closed by court order so far, according to Ahram Arabic.

In 2014, the government seized the assets of hundreds of charity groups and educational facilities suspected of association with the Brotherhood.

Detonators, Explosives Stolen from French Military Base

[AnNahar] At least 150 detonators and a stock of plastic explosives have been stolen from a military base in La Belle France, triggering immediate probes into a theft that has authorities on high alert.

Thieves broke into the vast army logistics base in Miramas near Marseille in southern La Belle France on Sunday night after cutting through a wire fence.

The facility, which houses some 200 soldiers, is used to stockpile weapons for foreign missions, such as those in Africa.

In a statement, the defense ministry said it had launched an internal probe into "the protection of all military sites stocking munitions" following the theft.

Another probe has been launched to determine whether anyone was responsible for security breaches, it added.

According to Europe 1 radio, around 40 grenades have also been stolen.

It said the base occupied an area measuring some 250 hectares and was surrounded by two rows of wire fencing, but had no security cameras.

In the most recent attack, a 35-year-old found to have links to an IS fighter in Syria beheaded his boss at a gas factory in the southeastern city of Lyon and tried to blow up the premises.

It was as yet unclear what was behind the theft in Miramas, but this is not the first time that a large quantity of explosives has been stolen in La Belle France.

In July 2008, thieves took 28 kilos of explosives from a bomb disposal unit just outside Lyon.

Then interior minister Michele Alliot-Marie had blamed "faults in the site's security."

French Special Forces Kill Top Al-Qaida Militant in Mali
[AnNahar] La Belle France said on Tuesday its special forces in Mali killed an Al-Qaeda commander who had been released from prison in a swap for a French hostage.

The army said Ali Ag Wadossene, one of the "operational leaders" of Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM), died on Sunday in the northeastern town of Kidal, while two other "terrorists" were captured.

The operation "has dealt another heavy blow to armed terrorist groups in the Sahel", the army said, adding that it had destabilized AQIM's chain of command in that part of the lawless, arid region.

The suspects also confessed to kidnapping Shahzaib from Rawalpindi, and Muhammad Tahir and Haseeb from Islamabad and later releasing them after receiving Rs450 million collectively. They also kidnapped Muhammad Asif of Dera Ismail Khan and received Rs60 million from him. They had been funding the bully boy group with the proceeds of crime.

Syria's al-Qaeda offshoot Nusra stages suicide bombing in Aleppo: monitor
[EN.ZAMANALWSL.NET] A jacket wallah from Syria's al Qaeda offshoot the Nusra Front went kaboom! in a Syrian army outpost in a contested neighborhood in the divided northern city of Aleppo and killed at least 25 soldiers and allied militia and injured scores, a monitor said.

The UK based Observatory for Human Rights, which tracks the violence across the country, said the kaboom from the blast was heard across the city where several Islamist-led groups recently launched an offensive to control the remaining western parts of the city in government hands.

Rebel websites said there was heavy bombardment of rebel-held portions of Jamiyat al Zahra district, where rebels had gained ground and brought them closer to the heart of government controlled parts of the city, which was before the 2011 civil war the country's main industrial and commercial hub.

Rami Abdul Rahman, head of the monitor group, said the Syrian army had responded with heavy firepower including aerial bombardment in an attempt to stem the offensive.

The al Qaeda-linked murderous Moslems posted on social media images of fighters from the Nusra Front heading towards the district, which the Syrian army has repeatedly said in recent days had not fallen into Death Eater hands.

Syrian television said the Syrian army had foiled an attempt by Sunni bully boyz to detonate an explosive-laden truck heading towards Jamiyat al Zahra and that it exploded before reaching its target.

not to give up, even though he admitted in a TV interview that the allegation against Punjab's former caretaker chief minister Najam Sethi was a political ploy. It seems that he is stuck in a groove from which he finds it hard to extricate himself.

Imran Khan's fixation with the puncture theory, pertaining to electoral rigging, has now become an embarrassment for many of his own supporters. It is a pity to see party stalwarts clumsily trying to defend the accusation that they themselves do not really believe. Many of them privately admit the silliness of the fabricated account of election-fixing. Yet no one would dare defy the great leader, a sad commentary on the party that promises to change the political culture of this country. A show of reason is certainly not acceptable.

For sure, the PTI deserves credit for forcing the government to agree to probe the vote-rigging charges. But the party should now wait for the judicial commission ruling instead of mindlessly harping on a fictitious theory. It is a pity to see the party pursuing a one-point agenda, completely ignoring other important national issues the country's main opposition was expected to take up. Its rejectionist approach and politics of perpetual agitation seems to have lost the party much credibility causing disillusionment in its ranks.

The EXEN said an FIR had been lodged with Mumtazabad police against both the brothers.

Abdul Jabbar Dogar, a family member of the MNA, said people contacted them often for resolving their issues as the Mepco authorities were least interested in resolving their problems without a reference.

He said Abid Dogar called the SDO to resolve the issue of a consumer who had got an inflated electricity bill, however, instead of resolving the issue, the SDO misbehaved with Abid on phone. He said to avoid any tension Amir, instead of Abid, went to the office of the SDO where only an exchange of harsh words took place.

(Chinese) Navy gets anti-sub boost
[ChinaDaily] China has developed and commissioned a fixed-wing, anti-submarine patrol aircraft, which will significantly boost the Chinese navy's operational capability, experts said.

The four-engine Gaoxin-6, which was developed and manufactured by Aviation Industry Corp of China based on the Y-8 transport plane, has been delivered to the Beihai - or North Sea - Fleet of the People's Liberation Army navy, about three years after the type was first revealed in late 2011, according to a recent report in IHS Jane's Defense Weekly, a United Kingdom-based weapon technology publication.

The aircraft can easily be distinguished from other Y-8 variants by its large sea-search radar, mounted below the cockpit, and the magnetic anomaly detector boom that looks like a metal tail.

It is China's first large aircraft specifically designed for anti-submarine warfare, making the country the sixth nation that has the development capability for such a sophisticated plane. The others are the United States, Russia, Japan, the UK and France.

The most-deployed anti-submarine aircraft is the US' Lockheed P-3C Orion, which often appears in naval confrontations between the US and China. Almost all US allies have P-3Cs as the backbone of their anti-submarine forces.
Earlier reports by Chinese media said the Gaoxin-6, with a crew of up to 10, is capable of flying 6,000 kilometers or staying in the air for more than eight hours.

[DAWN] A large number of city localities plunged into darkness on Tuesday night as a major fault occurred in the transmission and distribution system of power distributor K-Electric (KE).

According to KE officials, a conductor on the main 220KV transmission line failed, causing the extra high tension line to trip. This caused a ripple effect and units at Bin Qasim power plant tripped in turn, plunging most parts of the city in darkness.

State-run media says China needs a long-range bomber
China needs to develop a long-range strategic bomber to strike adversaries farther away from its coast in the event of conflict, state media reported Tuesday, quoting defense experts.

The meeting agreed that a long-range strategic bomber would enable the air force to attack farther out into the Pacific Ocean, the paper quoted Kanwa Defense Review as reporting, as far as the "second island chain."

A capacity to strike the second island chain would hinder foreign militaries from intervening in "an emergency or conflict," the China Daily said, citing the report.

In May, China's State Council, or cabinet, said in a white paper that the country would project its military power further beyond its sea borders and more assertively in the air.

The Chinese military defines a long-range strategic bomber as one that can carry more than 10 tonnes of air-to-ground munitions and with a minimum range of 8,000 kilometers (5,000 miles) without refueling, the China Daily said.

Chinese defense technology magazine Aerospace Knowledge said in a series of articles last month that China needs a long-range stealth bomber, China Daily said.

"A medium-range bomber can't essentially fix the PLA air force's shortcomings in terms of strategic strike and strategic deterrence," it cited one of the reports as saying. "Thus the air force does need an intercontinental strategic bomber capable of penetrating an enemy's air defenses."

But the China Daily quoted the publication's deputy editor-in-chief Wang Yanan as saying such an aircraft would require "a state-of-the-art structure and aerodynamic configuration as well as a high-performance turbofan engine."

"All of these are major problems facing the Chinese aviation industry," he added. "I don't think these difficulties can be resolved within a short period of time."

Syrian Kurds retake northern villages from ISIS: activists
[EN.ZAMANALWSL.NET] Syrian Kurdish fighters have recaptured more than 10 villages seized by ISIS north of its de facto capital of Raqqa, aided by U.S.-led coalition air strikes, the activist group the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported Tuesday.

Fighters from the ultra-hardline Islamist group were, however, still in control of the town of Ain Issa, 50 km (30 miles), north of Raqqa city, which the jihadis seized from the YPG militia in an attack Monday, the Observatory reported.

That attack on YPG-held areas followed an intensification of Arclight airstrikes on Raqqa city over the weekend, which U.S. Defense Secretary Ash Carter said Monday were aimed at disrupting the Death Eaters' ability to respond to YPG advances north of Raqqa.

The YPG, a militia operating mostly in predominantly Kurdish areas of northern Syria towards the Turkish border, has emerged as the only significant partner in Syria for U.S.-led alliance fighting to tackle ISIS both there and in Iraq.

The Observatory, a British-based activist group reporting on Syria's four-year-old civil war, said the coalition had played an "effective role" in helping YPG forces recover 11 villages northeast of Ain Issa.

The YPG, backed by small Syrian rebel groups, has made significant gains against ISIS in Raqqa province in recent weeks, seizing Tal Abyad at the Turkish border on June 15 before advancing south to Ain Issa.

The YPG captured Ain Issa on June 23.

While the YPG has shown itself to be a potent force in the fight against ISIS, its effectiveness is seen to diminish beyond the predominantly Kurdish areas it was set up to defend in northern and northeastern Syria.

The United States aims to train and equip Syrian rebel fighters it deems politically moderate in order to fight ISIS in Syria. But the Pentagon said on June 18 the effort was moving more slowly than expected.

According to the IJS, Islamic State fighters executed Suha Ahmed Radi in Mosul after days in bully boys' captivity. ISIS fighters reportedly raided her home located in the east of Mosul and detained her. After she was killed, her body was reportedly handed over to her relatives.

The jihadist group has been known to execute journalists in the areas of Iraq under ISIS control.

Radi worked as a news hound for a Mosul newspaper. It is unknown how long she was in ISIS captivity.

IJS said the sharia court of the Islamic State charged Radi with spying and she was sentenced to death in the Al-Daki neighborhood in the west of Mosul. There was no information about how she was executed.

According to the syndicate, 14 journalists have been executed in Mosul since ISIS took over the city in June 2014.

Islamic movement on Tuesday has seized control of two checkpoint in Zabadani region, an advance came as Syrian regime army and its allied Hezbollah militia waging a major offensive on the border city with Leb started on Saturday.

In statement posted online, Ahrar al-Sham said it lauched a surprise attack on military bases situated on the enclaves of the embattled town of Zabadani which has been facing a fierce aerial and ground shelling for the fourth day.

The Islamist group said it had controlled al-Shallah and al-Qanater checkpoints, killing 10 army soldiers including two senior officers.

Also, Ahrar al-Sham said it had repelled an attack by Hezbollah near al-Zahra village, leaving 7 Hezbollah fighters killed, according ot the statement.

The regime army, backed by Hezbollah militia, has long sought to wrest control of Zabadani from the rebels who have held it since 2012, a year after the start of the Syrian revolution.

The offensive began on Saturday and was preceded by several days of aerial and artillery bombing of outposts held by a coalition of mainly Sunni Moslem jihadist fighters defending the city.

The Syrian army, aided by Hezbollah, last March captured the western mountains overlooking Zabadani but rebels who control the eastern hilltops have used rocket launchers to hit army and Hezbollah posts.

Bonya identifies blogger Avijit's killers
[Dhaka Tribune] Seven members of Ansarullah Bangla Team were involved in the murder of Avijit Roy, Sherlocks said, adding that two of them had been positively identified by the blogger's wife.

Two of the culprits directly carried out the attack on Avijit and his wife Rafida Ahmed Bonya, while the other five reportedly tracked the blogger's movement and helped the killers flee the scene. All the perpetrators have now been identified.

"We have not only identified the seven killers but also collected photos suspected to be of them," a bigwig of the Detective Branch of police told the Dhaka Tribune yesterday.

Requesting anonymity, the official added that they had sent the photos to the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) for verification, and Avijit's wife -- who was also injured in the attack -- has already identified two of the suspects as being at the scene of the murder.

On February 27, Avijit Roy was murdered near the TSC intersection while he was visiting the ongoing Ekushey Book Fair. His wife, Bonya, lost a finger in the attack.

The following day, Avijit's father Ajay Roy filed a case with Shahbag cop shoppe. Along with the DB police, the FBI also assisted in the investigation as Avijit was a US citizen.

"We have got all possible details of Avijit's killing and we are certain that all the killers belong to banned krazed killer outfit Ansarullah Bangla Team," said Monirul Islam, joint commissioner of DB police.

Monirul, however, said the location of the suspects are yet to be figured out. He also refused to disclose the identities of the killers as the investigation was still going on.

Another senior DB official, also wishing not to be named, told the Dhaka Tribune that the killers -- posing as fans -- collected information about the science writer from a friend of Bonya, before the blogger couple arrived in the country from the US on February 16.

"Actually, Bonya's friend had no idea about the killers' identities and she helped them unknowingly," the DB official added.

He added that detectives have also extracted some sensational information from nine bully boyz including three Ansarullah members who were tossed in the clink

The seven killers were identified after verifying information provided by the arrestees, analysing phone call data, and going through video footage collected from 70 CCTV cameras installed at book fair premises, the official added.

Four brothers among eight Benghazi mortar-fire dead
[Libya Herald] Staff at Benghazi Medical Centre are reported to have wept when the bodies of four brothers were brought to the hospital after a mortar attack in Bouhdima.

The Alorafee brothers, Salah, Tariq, Mansour and Hamza were among the eight people killed today in mortar assaults launched from parts of the city still controlled by the Benghazi. They were recognised as they were brought into the hospital's emergency room.

The other four who died were Waleed Ibrahim, Awad Ibrahim Alaclai and Khalid Mohammed Fakhri.

One of the mortar shells, which witnesses said appeared to be fired at random, landed right beside the city's children's hospital but there were no reports of casualties there.

Unfortunately, doing the decent thing does not come naturally to the eurocrats and politicians in charge. The initial reaction from Germany suggested it was pretty miffed with the Greek people for their stubborn refusal to endorse for an indefinite period the collective punishment that has been their lot for the past five years.

The July 5 referendum, called just eight days earlier, was something of a desperate gamble for the government led by Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras. It was necessitated by a near-impossible situation after the troika -- the European Commission, the European Central Bank (ECB) and the IMF -- turned down a deal offered by Greece that was more or less tantamount to capitulation.

Obama who said that the US is not in war with Islam, said that efforts should be made to stem the flow of imported muscle into Iraq and Syria.

"Ideologies are not defeated with guns, they are defeated by better ideas. We will never be at war with Islam," he said.

Obama said that the US has stepped up its fight against ISIS' online recruitment efforts and he encouraged countries with large Moslem populations to increase economic opportunities for young people to prevent them from joining radical groups.

"This larger battle for hearts and minds is going to be a generational struggle," Obama said.

[DAWN] SINDH Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah is suddenly an angry man. The target of Mr Shah's ire are the FIA and NAB -- federal organizations that are, according to the Sindh government, busy conducting raids against the provincial authorities without the authorisation or support of Mr Shah's government. The Sindh chief minister has even vowed to take the matter of granting additional powers to the FIA under federal legislation to the superior courts. While the centre has claimed that new powers to detain suspects for 90 days have been granted to the FIA are applicable to all provinces and not just Sindh, Mr Shah made it clear that his government believes it has been singled out for punishment. Unsurprisingly, the MQM has come out in his support and is also concerned by the FIA and NAB investigations. As with virtually everything else in the growing conflict between the centre and Sindh, there is some truth in what both sides are claiming.

Clearly, for all the federal government's clarifications, there is something Sindh-specific about the FIA and NAB's recent crusades. Where are similar actions in the other provinces? Have provincial offices in Balochistan

A Sindh government that is at odds with not just the federal government but the military is a dangerous development in an ostensibly democratic framework.

Yet, the Sindh government will win little sympathy from any quarter so long as it continues with its hapless ways. That there is epic corruption and mis-governance in the province is no longer questioned by even the most ardent of democrats. That the Sindh government has done nothing to stamp out corruption in its midst is also not seriously questioned by independent observers. That the province could take the lead and has the powers necessary to fight corruption and mis-governance is also quite clear. If Sindh won't put its own house in order, is it a surprise that the centre should be attempting to do so itself?

According to Kabul police, two people -- one foreigner and another civilian, were maimed after a suicide bomber rammed in his explosives-laden vehicle into a vehicle of foreign forces around 11:30 am.

Today's attacks come about two weeks after Taliban attacked the Afghan parliament in Darul Aman area of the city.

Five people were killed, none of them politicians, and 31 others maimed in the attack.

Traders up in arms over tax on bank transactions
[DAWN] KARACHI: Traders decided on Monday to gradually withdraw their savings from banks as a mark of protest against the recently imposed 0.6 per cent adjustable advance income tax on bank transactions, calling it exorbitant and an unjustified move by the government to bring non-filers into the tax net.

Witness in Benazir case retracts statement
[DAWN] Another key witness in Benazir murder case retracted his earlier statement during cross examination before the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC).

Earlier, witnesses like former director general National Crisis Management Cell (NCMC) retired Brigadier Javed Iqbal Cheema and SSP Yasin Farooq had disowned the statements attributed to them by the prosecution.

ATC Judge Rai Mohammad Ayub Marth commenced hearing in the Benazir murder case in Adiala Jail when a prosecution witness, retired SSP Maj Imtiaz -- a key security official of Ms Bhutto -- withdrew his earlier statement.

Syria Turkmen move to form anti-Kurd army

The Turkmen official's comments came as the Syrian Turkmen Assembly held a meeting in southern Turkey's Gaziantep that brought together Turkmen representatives from Aleppo, Tal Abyad, Jarabulus, Latakia, Idlib, Raqqa and the Golan.

Alaraby Aljadeed reported that the Turkmen military and civilian officials in the meeting decided to form a military council that reports to the Syrian Turkmen Assembly, a pro-opposition group with ties to the Turkish government.

The decision to form the council comes after calls emerged from Turkmen military formations to fight both ISIS and the Kurdish Democratic Union Party that controls the YPG, the London-based daily added.

Syrian Turkmen have already armed themselves in a series of brigades throughout Syria that are loosely affiliated with each other and count on about 10,000 gunnies in total, with the largest fighting units operating in the Aleppo province.

Turkey's security institutions maintain close links with the Turkmen units in Syria, providing special forces training to the brigades, which are affiliated with the Free Syrian Army

DB: Avijit killers inspired Oyasiqur's murderers
[Dhaka Tribune] Seven Ansarullah Bangla Team members, who the Detective Branch of police claims killed science writer Avijit Roy, had also allegedly instigated the murder of secular activist Oyasiqur Rahman Babu.

"In our investigation, we have so far found that these seven people are not directly involved in Babu killing. But they motivated the killers to do it," DB Joint Commissioner Monirul Islam told the Dhaka Tribune yesterday.

He also claimed that the two killers, caught just after killing Babu on March 30, did not belong to Ansarullah but were followers of its chief Jasim Uddin Rahmani who professed to kill atheists.

"We also suspect that some of these seven killers were present when Babu had been attacked [at Begunbari of Tejgaon]," said Monirul, also the chief of DB police, who are investigating both the cases.

On February 27, US citizen Avijit was murdered near the TSC intersection of Dhaka University after he came out of the Amar Ekushey Book Fair. His wife, Rafida Ahmed Bonya, lost a finger in the attack.

Babu, who was vocal to demand justice for Avijit murder, was killed while going to office. The two detained killers in interrogation earlier said they had seen Avijit's killers at a mess in Jatrabari area.

Monirul hopes that they will be able to solve mystery behind the killings after the arrest of the seven suspects. "Two of them launched the attack on the couple with machetes while the five others took position around the spot," he said.

"We have verified their identity and photos by analysing the evidence with technological help."

One of them is a medical student while the others are also highly educated. "Their age is below 30. They learnt about Avijit through Facebook."

The DB chief says all the members of the team were highly expert in making bombs, operating arms and other technical issues.

"We suspect that they belong to a single sleeper cell of Ansarullah and this is why a Twitter account named Ansar Bangla 7 took responsibility of the murder."

The DB official said the turbans had tried to kill Avijit several times after the couple came to Dhaka on February 16.

He said they had all necessary evidence to prove the case against the seven holy warriors. "We are now trying to trace their location. Their names can be fake too, but we have their photos." Asked about the involvement of Buet teacher Farseem Mannan Mohammedy, Monirul replied in the negative.

The men, both in their 20s, were outside a passport office when two assailants gunned them down and also killed a policeman who confronted them. appear to have disrupted sectarian-jihadi networks to some extent, the massacre of Ismaili Shias on May 13 in Karachi shows that their capacity to unleash mass murder has certainly not been neutralised. That is even more so a cause for concern whenever a religiously significant event in the Moslem calendar -- such as Hazrat Ali's death anniversary which will fall tomorrow -- comes around and is commemorated with majalis and processions.

By their very definition, processions are relatively difficult to secure. A mass of people moving along a route with potentially multiple points of vulnerability are a security challenge of no mean proportions. And conversely, one that bandidos snuffies are tempted to exploit. The government is way more powerful and able to spy on us in ways unthinkable in 1775. And the publicly employed will now literally kill to keep the magic paychecks coming.

Afghans and Taliban representatives meet in Pakistan for peace talks
[WASHINGTONPOST] Representatives of the Taliban were meeting with an Afghan government delegation Tuesday in the Pak capital of Islamabad, in what Afghan officials hope will be a step toward negotiating a peace deal with the Lion of Islam group and ending the country's protracted war, according to Afghan and Pak officials.
I thought this might happen, with the Islamic State rearing its ugly turban in Nangarhar. Now they've got a common enemy.
The gathering, under discussion for several weeks, is not the first time both sides have met to discuss a cease-fire. Several other meetings between Taliban representatives and Afghan officials have taken place in recent months in Qatar

But the meeting in Islamabad carries more significance because of Pakistain's long-standing ties to the Taliban, as well as Afghanistan's Caped President Ashraf Ghani

"We have always had a pretty clear view of what Pakistain can and cannot do in terms of delivering the Afghan Taliban to the negotiating table," a U.S. official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to freely discuss the peace efforts, said in a recent interview. "But we see, at this point, a sustained effort by the Paks to support President Ghani's effort."

Pentagon unveils new company-level rebel force
The U.S. has begun training only 60 fighters to take on the Islamic State in Syria, Defense Secretary Ash Carter acknowledged in a heated hearing of the Senate Armed Services Committee Tuesday morning. And not only is the number “much smaller than [the 15,000] we hoped for at this point” — three months into the program — but the U.S. has not yet determined what it will do when those fighters are attacked by the forces of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, Carter said.

“I can look at your faces and you have the same reaction I do, which is that’s an awfully small number,” the defense secretary told the senators. It will, he said, “get larger over time.”
Some 7,000 volunteers are awaiting approval to begin the training, Carter said. The defense secretary explained that U.S. law sets a high bar for the vetting, which includes counterintelligence screenings to ensure trainees won’t “pose a green-on-blue-threat to trainers.” Potential fighters must also pass a background check for atrocities and display a willingness to abide by the laws of armed conflict.

Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman John McCain, R-Ariz., is generally deferential to Carter but hostile toward Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Martin Dempsey, who testified with him. Yet on Wednesday, McCain did little to hide his frustration about the effort to train and equip moderate Syrians to fight the Islamic State.

The train-and-equip program is meant to enable Syrians to fight the Islamic State, as an alternative to inserting American and coalition forces into the country. Such an intervention is opposed by Assad, who is battling both the Islamic State and rebels amid a four-year civil war believed to have killed more than 200,000 people. The Obama administration’s stated position is that Assad does not have a role in Syria’s future, but it has been ambiguous on its strategy to achieve that end.

“We know from our history in the region that putting U.S. combat troops on the ground as a substitute for local forces will not produce enduring results,” Carter said in his opening statement Tuesday.

Carter, who had promised in his February confirmation hearing before the committee to give unvarnished military advice, later added, “I wanted to tell the truth and I did tell the truth. We expect that number [of Syrian fighters being trained] to improve, but you deserve to know where things stand.”

Carter said the military is way behind its interim goal of training 3,000 fighters by year’s end, 5,400 by May 2016. But even if the military meets its ultimate goal of training more than 15,000 fighters over three years, few expect this strategy to defeat the Islamic State and lead to a political solution that would remove Assad and restore a stable Syria. The revelation that a mere 60 fighters are being trained did little to assuage concerned lawmakers who, after some debate, approved the $500 million train-and-equip program last September.

Carter said Wednesday that a similar effort is also struggling in Iraq, which is the main theater of the U.S. fight against the Islamic State because of Baghdad’s request for help.

Some 3,550 American personnel at six locations across Iraq are working to build the capacity of Iraqi forces and advise and assist them. But that effort too is suffering from a lack of trainees, Carter said. As of June 30, the coalition has received enough volunteers to train roughly 8,800 Iraqi Army soldiers and Peshmerga fighters, along with 2,000 counterterrorism service personnel. Another 4,000 are undergoing training.

Carter and Dempsey’s appearance on Capitol Hill followed a rare visit from President Obama to the Pentagon Monday to meet with his national security team and receive a briefing on the Islamic State fight. In brief comments, the president defended the strategy and again urged patience.

“This will not be quick,” Obama said. “This is a long-term campaign.”

Wednesday’s hearing is likely to be one of Dempsey’s last before he retires this summer. Last week, in releasing a new National Military Strategy, he warned, “We are more likely to face prolonged campaigns than conflicts that are resolved quickly.”

Obama’s pick to replace Dempsey, Marine Corps Commandant Gen. Joseph Dunford, will receive his confirmation hearing before the Armed Services Committee on Thursday. Dunford’s nomination is expected to be the first of several shakeups to top brass with a year and a half left in Obama’s term and nearly a year into the Islamic State fight.

Two Hazara brothers shot dead in Quetta sectarian attack
[DAWN] Two brothers belonging to the Shia Hazara community and a policeman were bumped off here on Monday.

Three other people, a woman among them, were maimed when a group of men fired indiscriminately on them near the passport office in the Joint Road area.

Police said at least one attacker was injured when the policeman who had been hit by a bullet and later died, fired back. The constable was identified as Kala Khan. He was going to the offices of a private TV channel where he had been deployed for security duty.

"Four members of a family belonging to the Shia Hazara community and other people were standing outside the passport office when they came under attack," Capital City Police officer Abdul Razzak Cheema said.

Another police official said the masked assailants used advanced weapons.

The dear departed brothers were identified as Hassan Hazara and Shabbir Hazara and the injured as Naimatullah, Khuda-e-Dost and Fatima Bibi.

Soon after the incident, shops in the area downed their shutters.

Law-enforcement agencies cordoned off the area to look for the assailants.

Police termed it a sectarian attack and said that a "sectarian group may be behind the incident".

Later, a large number of people took the bodies to the IG Police Office and held a sit-in. They shouted slogans against police and other law-enforcement agencies for their failure to provide security and protection to the Hazara community.

The Hazara Democratic Party, the Anjuman Wahdatul Moslemeen, the Shia Ulema Council and other organizations and members of the civil society condemned the killings and demanded immediate arrest of the killers.

AFP adds: The brothers were entering the passport office along with their parents when the waiting gunnies opened fire.

"The boys, in their twenties, were killed in the shooting while their parents were maimed and a policeman who was passing by the site was also killed after he shot and maimed one attacker," CPO Abdul Razzak Cheema said.

He added that two gunnies were involved in the shooting but they had others to assist them in escaping the scene.

The PTI politicians had boycotted parliament's proceedings during their 126-day Islamabad sit-in without submitting their formal leave applications. Under the National Assembly rules of business a politician absenting himself/herself for consecutive 40 sittings without approval of the House may be disqualified to be a member if a motion to that effect is adopted by it.

'Very, very, very tough' Iran talks extended
[DAWN] Global powers wrestling for a historic nuclear deal with Iran gave themselves yet more time Tuesday after foreign ministers failed to bridge what one diplomat called "very, very, very tough" remaining issues.

Iran and the P5+1 group -- the United States, Russia, China, La Belle France, Britannia and Germany -- effectively gave themselves until Friday to agree a deal by extending the terms of a 2013 interim accord under which Iran has been curtailing its nuclear programme in return for sanctions relief.

"Removing the remaining brackets (in the text of the agreement), this seems to be very, very, very tough," the senior diplomat said as an 11th day of talks stretched late into the night in Vienna.

But the envoy insisted the negotiations are "not an open-ended process".

"We've given ourselves a couple more days because we think it can be done."

Local media reports suggest that the school kids aging between 10-15 years were recently collected from different schools of Mosul city.

Sayed Mamuzini, front man for Iraq's Kurdistan Democrat Party says that the 111 school children have been transferred to the Daesh educational and military training centers for brainwashing and giving them the training of terrorist activities.

According to the Kurdish official, Daesh has kidnapped 1,420 children since the capture of the country's second city over a year ago and forcefully trained them for terrorist operations.

Mamuzini also said that Daesh recently had militarily-trained children execute 15 of the group's fighters who were allegedly the reason of a defeat in Bashiqa town northeast of Mosul

The group had earlier kidnapped up to 500 school children from Al-Anbar and Diyala province.

According to reports and photos released by Daesh, the terrorist group has setup several military training centers in Iraq and Syria for training children to become terrorists.

Kidnapped boy recovered from Afghanistan
[DAWN] RAWALPINDI: A four-year-old boy who had been kidnapped for a ransom of Rs100 million was recovered by the police on Monday and reunited with his parents after a 65-day ordeal.

The kidnappers had reportedly taken the boy to Afghanistan and demanded that police release some members of their family in police custody, in exchange for the child's release.

City Police Officer Israr Ahmed Abbasi told Dawn the boy was in Afghanistan and had been recovered. He said that no ransom was paid to the kidnappers and no accused had to be released by the police.

No further information was shared by the officer who said that the boy and his parents were on their way to Rawalpindi on Monday night, accompanied by a police party, led by Inspector Nadeem Zafar of Banni police.

He did reveal that Afghan law enforcement agencies helped the Pak police in recovering the boy and arresting the kidnappers.

"We also used informal channels to ensure the boy's return," he said.

Four-year-old Hashir Jawad was kidnapped on May 2, 2015 from his home in Asghar Mall, when five men broke into the house, held the family members hostage and took the boy with them. Later, the kidnappers contacted the family and demanded a ransom of Rs100 million.

Benghazi clashes intensify
[Libya Herald] There have again been heavy festivities in Benghazi during the past two days particularly in the downtown area, in Suq Al-Hout and neighbouring Sabri, where there has been direct fighting. In Hawari and other affected districts, the festivities have been more a case random but nevertheless deadly missile fire.

At last 12 people were reported died today -- four soldiers killed in action, although the Libya National Army (LNA) has not said where, and eight as a result of random rocket attacks. Mostly civilians, the latter were killed in and around Buhdeima and include four brothers, in their 20s, named as Tariq, Salah, Mansour and Hamza Ramadan Al-Arafi, from the city's Hay Al-Zawia (previously known as Hay Al-Fatah).

The others have been named as Walid Ibrahim, Khaled al-Fikhri (an off-duty member of Saiqa forces), Zaki Al-Barani and Awad Ibrahim Al-Awkali.

Random rockets have also landed in Salmani, Ard Zuwawa, Fuwayhat and Hadaiq. They are believed to have been fired mainly from Hawari. Very early this morning a rocket landed near the Children's Hospital, opposite the Benghazi Medical Cenntre.

Meanwhile LNA aircraft today targeted myrmidons' positions in the city centre and Leithi.

Yesterday, it was reported that three residents -- two young women and an older man -- had been killed in Beirut Street in central Benghazi as a result of random shelling and 20 ther injured. Jalaa Hospital has denied their deaths saying the three were maimed.

A homemade explosive, thought to be a "gelatina" bomb, was placed under the vehicle in the town centre's Shara Al-Maghar. The car, which was burned out, is said to belong to a local supporter of IS who has disappeared.

There have been a number of similar attacks on vehicles and properties belonging to IS supporters since the group was forced out of the town last month.

Meanwhile,

Altaf asks CM, Sindh Assembly to 'send back oppressive Rangers'

on Tuesday asked Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah and all members of the Sindh Assembly to pass a bill to "send back the oppressive Rangers."

Talking to party office bearers via telephone from London, Hussain said:

"We will hold a sit-in at the Chief Minister House against the repressive actions, arbitrary arrests, torture, and extra-judicial killings by Rangers. If they open fire on the participants of the sit-in, the Rangers and their 'captain' will be responsible for the consequences."

Interestingly, this demand by Hussain comes a day before Rangers' special powers in Sindh are due to expire. While the duration of these special powers has been extended multiple times in the past, it is not clear whether the provincial government will go ahead with the move this time around.

Clashes between Ajilat and Sabratha

It is made up of the Libya Shield militia (Misrata and Moslem Brotherhood), Libya Revolutionaries Operations Room (Moslem Brotherhood), and Tripoli Brigade (close to Abdul Hakim Belhaj, head of Al-Watan party). Financing and moral support come from Turkey and Qatar...
and Libyan National Army (LNA) fighters traded missile fire yesterday after the latter tried to take control of a remaining part of Ajilat district known as the Suq and which is still controlled by the former.

After LNA support forces -- mainly Warshafani and Zintani fighters --launched the bid, Dawn fighters based in Sabratha, less than ten kilometres away, started firing grad missiles, according to a LNA source. A child whose family had been evacuated from elsewhere is said to have been killed and members of another family injured when missiles hit their homes.

After they had pulled out, the LNA support forces then started targeting Sabratha with missiles, causing damage on a local resident's house, but no known casualties.

Last night, according to the source, the LNA reinforced its positions in Ajilat, expecting a counter attack from Libya Dawn. This, however, did not occur.

Saudis arrest 3 brothers in connection with Kuwait attack

three brothers in connection with last month's deadly attack on a Shiite mosque in neighboring Kuwait.

The official Saudi Press Agency on Tuesday quoted the Interior Ministry as saying that one of the men was arrested in Kuwait and handed over to the kingdom.

Another was detained in the western Saudi city of Taif, and a third was apprehended following a shootout that maimed two members of the Saudi security forces near the Kuwaiti border.

The men were not identified. The report says a fourth brother is a member of the Islamic State

Kickboxing champion turned ISIS militant killed in Syria
[RUDAW.NET] Former Thai kickboxing world champion turned ISIS recruiter Valdet Gashi has reportedly been killed among ISIS Lions of Islam in Syria, Gashi's immediate family said Tuesday.

A German of Albanian ancestry, Gashi was a two-time champion in world mixed martial arts and was from the German state of Bavaria. He became a jihadist and joined ISIS in Syria in July 2014.

Swiss TV channel SRF cited Gashi's brother, who said his brother was killed last Saturday under vague circumstances in Syria.

According to the source, the 29-year-old Gashi was married with two children. He previously in a phone interview with Swiss media announced that he joined jihadists in Syria to "help and seek answers."

In the interview Gashi said he was working for ISIS by patrolling the Euphrates River near the Turkish border and looking for smugglers bringing in illegal goods like cigarettes, alcohol or drugs.

Gashi travelled to Syria with three other Thai kickboxers. One of them was known to be a Kurdish Moslem named Hajan who was killed in a battle with the Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG) in the Rojava Kurdish region of Syria.

The four friends reportedly carried out many brutal punishments while serving in the jihadist ranks.

In May, the UN reported that some 20,000-22,000 imported muscle had joined ISIS in Syria and Iraq.

NAB submits list of 150 mega corruption cases to apex court
[DAWN] ISLAMABAD: Officials of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Tuesday submitted a report containing details of 150 mega corruption cases before the Supreme Court of Pakistain.

A three-member bench, headed by Justice Jawwad S. Khawaja, was hearing a case filed by Manzoor Ahmed Ghauri against chairman NAB and other officials. The case, initiated earlier this year, pertains to scrutiny of the anti-corruption body.
