Case Western Reserve University is providing a "safe space" for students who are upset about this week’s Republican National Convention.
The fancypants private school in Cleveland -- where tuition, fees and room and board cost $60,304 per year -- is located just over 4 miles from Quicken Loans Arena, where the GOP convention is occurring.
A July 11 statement in The Daily, Case Western’s internal e-newsletter, informs students -- and professors, and administrators -- that the private school’s Social Justice Institute "will host a ’safe space'" in the basement of concrete-laden Crawford Hall for the duration of the convention, which runs from July 18 to July 21. any chance of sealing it up while... no I better not go there...
"After extensive consultation among our leadership team and discussions in last week’s open forums, we have decided that the university will reduce its on-campus operations significantly from Monday, July 18, through the close of the convention Thursday, July 21," the statement explains. Its not really a big deal since we don't teach much of anything here at fancypants anyway!
Classes have been either cancelled or moved off campus.
"The university’s Employee Assistance Service will have a counselor available on campus during the workday for staff or faculty who wish to talk about their concerns," the statement continues.
In addition to the Social Justice Institute’s "safe space," which is co-hosted by Case Western’s LGBT Center, the school’s Interreligious Council "also will house a safe space for those who want to talk or reflect about their concerns."
As The College Fix notes, one reason that Case Western is almost completely closing down this week is because the fancypants private school is allowing hundreds of extra police officers to live in its dorms for the duration of the Republican National Convention.
On its Facebook page, the Case Western Social Justice Institute posted an angry op-ed by an anonymous Case Western professor who is unhappy about the decision to house cops on campus. 'Errrrr! I'm so angry! I'm going to hold my breath! (not that my brain needs oxygen...)'
Case Western Reserve "will be ground zero for the storm troopers you will watch on national news next week," the unidentified professor rants in the July 13 piece in Belt Magazine. "When the university realized that this might not be the wisest thing for an institution of higher learning to do, Probably much, much, safer than hosting hundreds of Only Certain Black Lives Matter activists
they opted for the solution I’m sure any of us would choose. They decided to take a break, for one week only, from being an institution of higher learning." As mentioned - its not big deal - in fact we don't have to change anything to not be an insitite of higher learning...
"The financial details are shrouded in mystery, and what little information I could find suggests that the university donated the housing when the city came calling," the professor adds. "I’ve also heard that the city intends to reimburse the university for costs it will incur this week, but that the odds of turning a profit are very slim. This is nothing more than rumor, however, and I only include it to clarify that I am not accusing the CWRU administration of any financial malfeasance." No! Certainly not!

[PJ] Any event like the Republican National Convention requires a great deal of security. There are so many high-profile personalities, for one thing. For another, it's just too high-profile an event to not have a lot of security.
With needs like that, it's unsurprising that police have been brought in from out of town. Those officers are being housed at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland.
Apparently, the special snowflakes who go to school there got a case of the vapors just thinking about the boys in blue being so near:
The students were incensed that school officials had agreed to allow police officers imported to maintain order during the convention to stay in campus housing. More than 300 [students] signed an online petition demanding that, among other things, the "riot police" store their weapons off-campus between shifts, restrict themselves exclusively to the residence halls, and abide by university rules regarding anti-discrimination and sexual harassment.
Some students even asked to be moved to alternative housing for the week, saying the increased police presence caused them to "fear for their safety" following the shooting deaths of two black men in Minnesota and Louisiana.
"I am scared and concerned for students of color, queer* and trans* students and all university community members at the mercy of an arbitrarily expanded police force without clear oversight or attachment to the community," wrote one petitioner, Shannon Groll. "Please, protect CWRU as a safe space for all bodies."
"I am deeply troubled by the presence -- even temporarily -- of a militarized police force on the CWRU campus," wrote Keith Fitch. "The number one priority for an educational institution is to guarantee a safe environment for its students, faculty, and staff."
According to Daphna Liel of Channel 2, a bag of cannabis was found in a bathroom of the Knesset in an area reserved for Knesset members and their aides.
The bag was found by a parliamentary aide, who promptly alerted a Knesset officer and handed over the bag to be checked.

[Breitbart] An Australian TV presenter has called for an end to Muslim immigration into her country, agreeing that "the more Muslims we import, the more danger we are in."
Sonia Kruger, who hosts Channel Nine's The Voice and Today Extra, was discussing last week’s terror attack in Nice when she said she agreed with a column by Andrew Bolt in the Herald Sun who argued that Muslim immigration into France led to an increased terror risk.
"Personally I think Andrew Bolt has a point here," Ms Kruger said. "There is a correlation between the number of people in a country who are Muslim and the number of terrorist attacks.
The Guardian reports her as saying: "I have a lot of very good friends who are Muslim, who are peace-loving, who are beautiful people, but there are fanatics.
"Personally, I would like to see it stop now for Australia. I want to feel safe and I want to see freedom of speech."
Her comments have provoked a furious backlash, but her employers at Channel Nine have released a statement defending her, citing freedom of speech.

Federal student loan programs help like he said, if they can be paid off within a few years... Mine were paid off in about three years, with a hefty, but not burdensome, rate - about 8% of my gross, IIRC. As a civil engineer.
But I gotta idea - have the Feds pay off the interest!

My student loans, as little as they were, cost me 1.5% interest and that only started some time after I graduated. I was making more on my savings in my bank account than that, so I paid them off as slowly as legally possible.

USA Today, British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) and CBS News all claimed the study directly linked fracking to asthma, when the authors of the study openly state they have no data to show fracking causes asthma or make symptoms worse. It causes bunions, too. You should see the people who live near it hobbling around!
The data shows counties with the most asthma have little to no fracking. The study was directly funded by a foundation with close ties to an environmental movement -- the official position of which is anti-fracking. They started fracking near me and I got a butt boil. Boy, did that hurt!
"News outlets were quick to link fracking to asthma even though the authors admitted they do not have the data to support it," Dr. Katie Brown, a spokeswoman for the energy industry group Energy In Depth, told The Daily Caller News Foundation." That important caveat was purposely buried in the study, and not part of the press release. Unfortunately, the media wrote what the researchers wanted them to write, I suppose, because it’s easier to be a stenographer than a researcher."

I grew up near Yellow Springs. It was rumored that LSD was invented there. It was always full of wealthy eastern hippies. The college has gone out of business and all that's left is old hippies and people looking for a cheap place to live.
I've been through the town recently and didn't see anyone carrying AR's.

It happened around in the pre-dawn hours of Monday, around 3:30 a.m.
Some officers who had just finished a call for service were on the sidewalk in the 2900 block of Eastern Avenue when a Toyota RAV4 hit one of their patrol cars.
“That’s what I get for playing this dumb a** game,” the driver can be heard telling the officer, who ran to the scene after witnessing the collision.
“It’s a game, but it’s not a game when you’re behind the wheel,” Baltimore Police spokesman T.J. Smith said at a news conference Tuesday. “This could have easily, easily been a tragedy.”
Smith also warned people to be careful about letting the game make them a target for criminals, after game-related thefts in College Park and Baltimore County.

The 17-year-old injured four people with an axe and knife, one critically, in the attack in Wuerzburg on Monday evening. He was rubbed out by police.
In the video, a young man brandishing a knife says he is an "IS soldier" preparing for a suicide mission.
German officials say they later found a hand-painted IS flag in his room.
The teenager reportedly shouted the Islamic phrase "holy shit! Allahu akbar" ("God is great") during the attack.
The self-styled news agency of IS said he had launched the attack "in answer to the calls to target the countries of the coalition fighting the Islamic State".
The attack comes days after a lorry ploughed into a crowd in Nice in La Belle France, killing 84 people. The self-styled Islamic State group said one of its followers had carried out that attack.

[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Officials in Libya said on Tuesday that an Islamist militia shot down a helicopter outside the eastern city of Benghazi, killing two French special forces troops who were onboard.
The officials, one an air force officer who knew of the helicopters’ passengers and the other an official working for Western missions in Libya, said that there were no survivors in the attack, which took place on Sunday.
They spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to brief the media.
The French defense ministry declined to comment, saying it does not release information regarding its special forces.
A militia that calls itself the Defending Benghazi Brigade claimed the attack, saying it had used an SA-7 shoulder-fired missile and heavy machine guns to down the aircraft, which belonged to forces under Gen. Khalifa Hifter, the head of armed forces based in Libya’s east, who they oppose.
The incident highlights the secretive western military cooperation with the eastern forces led by Hifter, an anti-Islamist who opposes the United Nations ...aka the Oyster Bay Chowder and Marching Society... -brokered, Tripoli ...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn... -based unity government but is supported by the internationally-recognized parliament in the eastern city of Tobruk.
Officially, the international community only recognizes the unity government and is imposing an arms embargo until the government unifies the army.
Libya slid into chaos after the uprising that led to the ouster and killing of longtime autocrat Muammar Qadaffy ...Custodian of Wheelus AFB for 42 long years until he was ejected from the gene pool by his indignant citizens... in 2011. On Tuesday, negotiators came up with a joint statement asking the government for an action plan to solve the persistent energy crisis, power cuts, and cash shortage. It also said that the political factions’ support to the government is "conditional" and depends on its success.
Mattias Toaldo, a Libya analyst at the European Council on Foreign Relations, said that the government has received a "yellow card."
"Despite the good will, it seems that these crucial issues are becoming more intractable by the day," he said.
French special forces have been helping Libyan troops fight ISIS group bandidosbully boyz in the eastern city of Benghazi since the spring. However, nothing needs reforming like other people's bad habits... the profiles of the perpetrators in Nice and Orlando, who acted in the name of ISIS, demonstrate the criminal impulse of its followers rather than their devotion to Islam. To understand ISIS’s appeal, we need to understand the actions and profiles of its followers.
Criminality
Nice’s Mohammed Lahaouaiej Bouhlel and Orlando’s Omar Mateen prove that you do not need to espouse an ideology to execute a terrorist attack. It is enough to be a criminal. Both massacres were executed by criminals who happened to be Moslems of Middle Eastern descent.
Their acts serve ISIS’s aim of being ubiquitous. In the age of social media, the group is garnering popularity worldwide, especially among loners, low achievers and misfits such as Bouhlel and Mateen. They find in the group a haven for restoring their self-esteem and sense of belonging.
Although they do not develop an ideological devotion to ISIS, they act on the animalistic impulse that is easily stimulated by its barbarism. It is enough to make them one of its soldiers - ideological and theological devotion is not necessary. This is restructuring the dynamic of modern jihadism and jihadist archetypes. Today’s snuffies are no longer anonymous actors serving an ideology, but humans with personal traits of love, stress, insanity, anger, loneliness and sexual preferences.
Al-Qaeda was personified by its late leader the late Osama bin Laden ... who has left the building... , the mysterious villain who we feared but did not expect to be our neighbor. However, nothing needs reforming like other people's bad habits... ISIS jihadists are independent and visible individuals who orchestrate their own acts of terror and come up with unconventional methods, such as Bouhlel’s use of a truck. ISIS has invaded every aspect of our lives. Rising public fear following the massacres in Nice and Orlando is propelled by the idea that almost anyone among us could be a terrorist.

He was a nation on his own. Even the organization of streets and public squares in La Belle France carries the systematic features of Descartes in terms of clarity and accuracy.

Yes, Shipman, he is a bit of a RINO on certain issues. I don't like funding Planned Parenthood, I'm uncomfortable with his promise to replace ObamaCare instead of just getting rid of it. I'm uneasy with his promise to make war in ISIS because every time we meddle in that part of the world we only make things worse. I'd rather seal it off and let them figure it out for themselves.
But Trump is the only candidate who talks about securing our border, slapping tariffs on China and keeping the damn muslims out of here. So I'll take what I can get.

U.S. District Judge Lynn Adelman in Milwaukee issued a preliminary injunction Tuesday that allows people who haven't been able to obtain IDs to vote if they sign an affidavit stating why they couldn't get identification. Adelman was appointed by yes, you guessed it, Bill Clinton.
Adelman also said the affidavit option won't be in place for the Aug. 9 primary, saying elections officials don't have time to implement it by then, but will be in place for the Nov. 8 general election.
The American Civil Liberties Union and the National Law Center for Homelessness and Poverty filed a motion asking for the injunction in June.
Officials with the state Justice Department didn't immediately respond to a message.

I'm wondering if in November they end up with more voters than population in Wisconsin. I expect A lot of people will vote in multiple districts.
If you vote without an ID you should be forced to smile for a photo, give up a thumb print, and sign a document attesting that you understand voter fraud is a felony offense punishable by x years in prison. Then of course they need to carry out the threat for those discovered to be lying.

[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The shadow provincial council chief of the Taliban group for southern Helmand ...an Afghan province populated mostly by Pashtuns, adjacent to Injun country in Pak Balochistan... province was killed during the ongoing clearance operations in this province.
The Ministry of Defense (MoD) said Mullah Hamza was among 34 faceless myrmidons killed during the operations conducted in Greshk, Marjah, Sangin and Nahr-e-Saraj districts.
According to a statement by MoD, the operations were conducted jointly by the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF) in the past 24 hours.
The statement further added that the operations are part of the annual offensive to suppress the insurgency activities of the anti-government armed Lion of Islam groups.
According to MoD, the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF) were receiving close air support by the Afghan Air Force and artillery support by the Afghan army.
The anti-government armed Lion of Islam groups have not commented regarding the report so far.
Helmand is among the relatively volatile provinces in southern Afghanistan where anti-government armed Lion of Islam groups are actively operating and frequently carry out insurgency activities.
This comes as the Taliban group earlier claimed that the control of Sangin district in Helmand on Monday night.

[CNN] Philippine Presidential Peace Adviser Jesus Dureza on Tuesday confirmed reports that five Malaysians tugboat crew members have been kidnapped by the Abu Sayyaf in Sabah, Malaysia. He said, "They took again five more Malaysians in Lahad Datu."
The tugboat was sailing from Sandakan to Sempora when it was waylaid. The vessel was found unmanned on Saturday in Lahad Datu, a part of the waters bordering Tawi-Tawi. If the kidnapping is confirmed, there would have been at least 18 Indonesians and Malaysians seized by the Abu Sayyaf in three separate abductions since early this year.
Dureza said Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) leader Nur Misuari has informed officials he is willing to assist in going after the Abu Sayyaf. The Abu Sayyaf was a breakaway group from the MNLF, established by Abdurajak Janjalani in the 1990s.
Dureza said, "There is an effort right now by the group of Chairman Nur Misuari. I talked with him today, he called me over the phone and he said that he'd like to do coordination with our military forces on the ground because they'd like also to help in addressing the criminal acts committed by the so-called Abu Sayyaf Group."
An Iranian official said a kindergarten has been closed down in Tehran because of a mixed-gender swimming pool. Welfare department official Ebrahim Ghafari announced the temporary closure in an interview with the hard-line Tasnim news agency, which earlier this week published a critical article that included photos in which young children in boys' and girls' swimsuits could be seen together in a pool.
Tasnim had reported disapprovingly that the pool belonged to a kindergarten in an affluent neighborhood of the capital that had allowed mixed swimming and "proudly" posted the photos on its official website.
Ghafari said that, following the report, authorities made a surprise visit to the kindergarten. He said, "The management of the kindergarten would not acknowledge the issue," adding that "all the evidence in the pictures matched the kindergarten."

[ARA News] KOBANE – Kurdish forces of the People’s Protection Units (YPG) repelled a renewed offensive by militants of the Islamic State (ISIS) near Kobane in Syria’s northern Aleppo province, and killed dozens of militant fighters, military sources reported on Wednesday.
The YPG forces ambushed a group of ISIS militants near the town of Ain Issa in Kobane countryside, killing at least 35 ISIS jihadis.
“The terror group was trying to infiltrate into Ain Issa. Our [YPG] forces have purposively removed security checkpoints at the town’s entrance to allow the militants enter our security zone, then we opened fire on the group killing more than 35 terrorists and injuring many others,” YPG officer Habun Osman told ARA News.
The Kurdish official added that at least a dozen of ISIS fighters who were injured in the operation were taken as hostages by the YPG.

Most elections are won on an anti-other guy/gal vote. Clinton's anti numbers are quite staggering - no one trusts her, even on the D side. Her shrill message gets on everyone's nerves.
That said, Trump has to be a viable option to collect the anti-Clintons... His move to the middle and use of the word "safe" and phrase "law and order" are wise. Hillary can not claim "law and order" since she only recently stands un-indicted by the FBI.
Trump was not my first choice, or even second or third for that matter...but, I will pull for the stronger horse in this race and he is clearly it for our side.

[DAWN] DERA GHAZI KHAN: A man died on Monday after five attackers chopped off his arms, lips and nose, taking away his severed limbs with them.
The brutal crime was committed against Allah Ditta, a resident of Mauza Sabra Nachawn in the limits of Gaddai cop shoppe.
According to local sources, Allah Ditta was married and had an affair with a married woman of Paiga village, who had earlier eloped with the victim but after intervention of elders of the both families was brought back to her husband’s house.
On Monday, Allah Ditta was again going to the village to meet the woman when five people intercepted him. After overpowering the victim, the attackers chopped off his arms, lips and nose. While fleeing the scene, the assailants took the severed limbs along, leaving the victim in a pool of blood.
The injured man was rushed to Trauma Centre of Ghazi Medical College and teaching hospital where he departed this vale of tears.
Station House Officer Ali Mohammad told Dawn a case had been registered against two relatives of the woman ‐ Iqbal and Allah Divaya ‐ and their three unidentified accomplices.

[Hurriyet] According to ranking official sources in Ankara who did not want to be named, the plan included carrying some 5,000 gendarmerie commandos to the capital in order to take control of key state facilities in the attempt to overthrow the government. The plan had three phases, as confirmed by sources. The first phase was to fly C-130 transport planes from military airports in Malatya, Kayseri and Ankara to the southeastern town of Sirnak, which borders both Syria and Iraq. It is a region where one of the most intensified anti-terror fights against the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) is being carried out, and where gendarmerie commandos play an important role.
The second phase was to form an air bridge between Sirnak and Ankara’s Eitmesgut base to transport the commandos on fake orders, as the orders were from the Gendarmerie General Command in Ankara, whose chief, Gen. Galip Mendi, was to be seized by the coup plotters.
The third phase was to transport the commandos to key positions in Ankara, like the parliament building, the presidential compound, the prime minister’s office and the headquarters of the chief of general staff, the Interior Ministry, the National Intelligence agency (MIT) and the police special forces, as well as the Turkish satellite ground station, which is a key node in the country’s telecommunications network.

[DAWN] UPPER DIR: Seven people, among them a leader of a pro-government peace Lashkar and two councillors, were killed in a kaboom in the Doog Darra area on Monday evening, police and witnesses said.
The seven were returning from a jirga, held in the Panaghar area to discuss a local matter, when the remote-controlled blast hit their pick-up in Badarkani.
No group immediately grabbed credit for the attack.
Those killed were identified as Malik Khan Muhammad, a leader of the Lashkar in the Miana Doog area, and Habibullah and Mehmood Jan, both members of the Lashkar; tehsil councillor Zahir Shah aka Adil and village councillor Amanullah; and area notables Kabir and Sanaullah.
"Seven people were killed in the incident," confirmed District Police Officer Athar Waheed.
The powerful kaboom flung the vehicle into a nearby river with body parts strewn across the hillside, witnesses said.
"Six of the bodies were collected from the river," said Shahid Khan, an eyewitness, adding the blast created a huge crater on the ground.
In 2009, Doog Darra was the only part of Upper Dir where Death Eaters secretly gained a toehold but local people joined forces and evicted them from the area after festivities when they came to know about their presence. During the fight, scores of Death Eaters were killed and dozens of houses of their supporters torched. The Death Eaters have since found refuge in Afghanistan from where they make attempts to target members of the Lashkar to avenge their defeat.

[ARA News] AMUDE – The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have captured an ISIS headquarters in Western Manbij, that has been for long used by the radical group as a command centre and logistics hub, the US-led coalition said on Tuesday.
“The Da’esh headquarters, located in a hospital, was being used as a command center and logistics hub. The SAC [SDF] also seized a significant amount of the city during the operation, which provided civilians the opportunity to escape,” the coalition said.
According to the coalition, the SDF forces continue to fight ISIS on four fronts within the city of Manbij, “carefully clearing territory toward the city center while ensuring the safety of any civilians who still remain,” the coalition said.
“[The SDF] freed additional territory in the city of Manbij in the face of determined resistance from ISIL,” the Pentagon spokesman Peter Cook said, using another acronym for ISIS.
“The hospital was contested for some time and it was a significant challenge for these forces operating in Manbij to expel ISIL from the building without doing major damage,” the Pentagon official said.
However, he said the hospital will be returned to the civilians, after Manbij is fully recaptured.
“They [SDF] have succeeded in that effort, and so once the city is secured, the hospital will be returned to local civilian control so it can once again serve city residents,” he stated.
Nevertheless, ISIS continues fighting hard in the Manbij city centre and organized counter attacks. But the Syrian Democratic Forces are maintaining their momentum with a support from the US-led coalition airforces.
Since the operation for Manbij border pocket began on 31 May, the coalition has carried out 450 airstrikes against ISIS.
“These airstrikes destroyed Da’esh heavy weapons, vehicles, fortifications, vehicle-borne improvised explosive devices, VBIED facilities, armored vehicles, technical vehicles, bridges, and caches,” the coalition said.
The destruction of these ISIS assets disrupts the group’s operations and makes them vulnerable here and on the Mar’a line [north of Aleppo province], the coalition added.
Erbil-For the first time since ISIS took control over Mosul (June 2014), it witnessed on Monday evening a women demonstration against ISIS practices. Saeed Mamozini, the head of the Kurdistan Democratic Party’s branch 14 in Mosul, told Asharq Al-Awsat that the protest was aggressively blocked with 12 women shot and others arrested.
In the military field and after battles that lasted for hours, Iraqi forces succeeded in gaining control over Al Awsajah (south east Mosul).
Iraqi Military Officer Amin Shekhani commented on the operation, “An extended attack was carried out from two directions to liberate Al Awsajah, with air support by the U.S. led Coalition against ISIS. During the operation, eight soldiers were injured but the forces continued to move forward and cleared the region from ISIS fighters”.
Speaking on the fate of families inside Al Awsajah village, Shekhani said that the village was almost empty when the attack commenced, yesterday, knowing that families escaped before days after receiving assistance from the security forces.
In coincidence with Shekhani statement, the commander of the Peshmerga in Makhmour, Rashad Kalali, revealed that this strategic village was the last stronghold of ISIS there and that the Iraqi forces killed around 20 of ISIS fighters during the operation.
Saeed Mamozini added that six ISIS fighters were killed and dozens injured in the west of Mosul; four others were killed in the east. Among them one of ISIS leaders named Muhammad Al Sudani.
BEIRUT: Children were among at least 56 civilians killed in strikes by a US-led coalition early on Tuesday near a Syrian village held by the Daesh group, a monitor said.
“There are at least 56 dead, including 11 children, and dozens more wounded, including some in critical condition,” said Rami Abdel Rahman, director of the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
The monitor said that the civilians were hit as they were fleeing fighting in the Aleppo province village of Al-Tukhar and that they had apparently been mistaken for Daesh fighters.
The Observatory — which relies on a network of sources inside Syria for its information — says it determines what planes carried out raids according to their type, location, flight patterns and the munitions involved.
Asked about the incident, the coalition had no immediate comment, but said it was looking into the reports.
Al-Tukhar lies 14 km north of the town of Manbij, a key Daesh stronghold that has been repeatedly targeted in raids by the US-led coalition.
On Monday, the Observatory said 21 civilians had been killed in coalition raids in the area, 15 in a northern district of Manbij and another six in Al-Tukhar.
Manbij sits on Daesh’s main supply route between Syria and neighboring Turkey and has been the target of a US-backed offensive by a Kurdish-Arab alliance of fighters since May 31.
In June, the Syrian Democratic Forces alliance broke into western districts of the town, but their advance has been slowed in the past month because of land mines planted by the terrorists and ongoing suicide attacks.
Near Aleppo, government forces sought to tighten their siege of rebel-held districts of the battleground second city.
Clashes erupted around Handarat, a largely deserted Palestinian refugee camp north of the city, after government forces seized parts of the only remaining supply route into rebel-held eastern districts, effectively severing them from the outside world.
The capture of the Castello Road has raised fears of a lengthy siege of east Aleppo, where residents have already reported food shortages and rising prices.
The Observatory said fierce clashes were underway around Handarat Camp, which is less than two kilometers from the northern outskirts of the city.
“If the regime takes Handarat, it will be able to completely asphyxiate the rebels in east Aleppo, and they will be unable to launch counter-attacks to retake the Castello Road,” Abdel Rahman told AFP.
About 11 militant groups, including 80 fighters, on Tuesday laid down their arms and joined the peace process in Badghis province, local officials said.
The militants had been operating in Jawand district in the province for the past eight years, officials added.
One of the fighters who was previously loyal to Taliban said: “People from different groups were among the Taliban. Their acts were completely against what they said and preached. Everyone was working for their own interests. Jihad and fighting for Islam were just by name,” said Mawlawi Ahmad, a former member of Taliban.
Another member of the Taliban, Mullah Asif said: “When I was with the Taliban I saw that everything is under the control of Pakistan’s intelligence agency [Inter-Services Intelligence] and that they [Taliban] don’t have any authority to make decisions on their own. Their leadership is also under the control of
Pakistan; therefore, I decided to join government and peace.”
Meanwhile, Badghis governor Mohammad Anwar Ishaqzai said they welcome the move by the fighters and that they believe that it will help improve security in the province.
He added that he expects connecting roads between Jawand and the provincial capital Qala-e-Nawtoreopen after 14 years – following the surrender of the insurgent groups.
“The joining of 80 Taliban fighters with the peace process is a good step and I am sure that security will improve in Jawand following this move.” he added.
Ishaqzai said that roughly 1,500 insurgents are active in the province and are fighting against government but according to recent figures, over 2,000 insurgentshave joined the peace process so far.
The High Peace Council office in Badghis meanwhile vowed to provide the fighters with required assistance and employment opportunities.
According to reports, most of the weapons that were handed over to government by the fighters are old and are not working. The militants that join the process reportedly keep their main weapons with them.
(IraqiNews.com) Diyala – Diyala Police Command announced pulling apart 15 terrorist cells during a number of security operations in the last few days at different areas of the province. Moreover, 19 persons wanted on different charges were also arrested in the operations.
Diyala Police Chief Major General Jassim al-Saadi in a statement said, “Police forces, in the last few days, have managed to pull apart 15 terrorist cells and arrest 19 persons wanted on different charges.”
“Three of the arrested persons were wanted on terrorism charges, eight on charges of hijacking and blackmail and the other eight on different criminal charges,” Saadi concluded.

Diyala Police Chief Major General Jassim al-Saadi in press conference held at the headquarters of Diyala Police Command said, “Diyala police managed to either kill or arrest six suicide bombers who were intending to blow up themselves up at Baqubah, al-Khalis, al-Salam, Khan Beni Saad and Balad Ruz.”
Saadi added, “The Ministry of Interior will provide Diyala police with vehicles equipped with explosives detectors and in the coming few days, Tigris Operations and Diyala police will choose as to where these vehicles are to be placed.”
(IraqiNews.com) Baghdad – A source in the Iraqi Ministry of Interiors revealed that in an IED explosion in western Baghdad killed one member of al-Hashd al-Sha’abi member and injured three others.
Sharing details about an IED explosion in western Baghdad today morning, the source said, “The blast was targeted at a vehicle of al-Hashd al-Sha’abi that was occupied by four members. In the blast, one member died on the spot while three others received serious injuries. The blast took place when the vehicle was passing through Abu Gharib district.”
“Security forces rushed to the spot and immediately carried the injured to a nearby hospital and the body of the deceased was sent to the forensic department. The forces have further opened a probe into the incident and have also launched a search operation to nab the perpetrators involved with the bombing,” added the source.

According to information shared by the source, it was revealed, “An adhesive explosive bomb placed under a policeman’s vehicle exploded this evening, while it was passing through al-Ghazaliyah area in western Baghdad. The officer was killed on the spot.”
“Security forces rushed to the area and transferred the body to the forensic department and security personnel cordon off the area and barred anybody from approaching it.”
[DAWN] Director General ISPR Asim Bajwa said Awais Shah was recovered from his kidnappers who had made him wear a burqa in order to transport him in Dera Ismail Khan ... the Pearl of Pashtunistan ... Elaborating on Shah's recovery in a presser, Bajwa said the kidnappers were ambushed in Dera Ismail Khan at a checkpoint at Mufti Mehmood Chowk on the way to Tank.
Bajwa said a figure in a burqa was found in the backseat of the vehicle after gunnies from the security forces shot the driver and two armed forces of Evil in order to stop a suspicious blue Toyota Surf that refused to halt at the checkpoint. The burqa-clad figure was identified as Awais Shah, blindfolded, with his hands and feet chained and tape across his mouth.
"He was in a burqa. When we lifted it, he was under it and he had tape on his mouth. It was removed and he said 'My name is Awais Shah and I'm the son of the Sindh High Court Chief Justice'. Security forces then took Shah to a nearby camp where we cut his chains."

The JMB at its peak was reported to contain at least 100,000 members, and an alleged 2,000-man suicide brigade, few of whom actually exploded. JMB allegedly received financial assistance from individual donors in Kuwait, UAE, Bahrain, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Libya. Reports have claimed that funding of JMB by international NGOs like Kuwait based Society of the Revival of Islamic Heritage (RIHS) and Doulatul Kuwait, Saudi Arabia based Al Haramaine Islamic Institute and Rabita Al Alam Al Islami, Qatar Charitable Society and UAE-based Al Fuzaira and Khairul Ansar Al Khairia. The top leadership of JMB was captured in 2005 and hung in 2007, which pretty much shot their bolt. (JMB). Police are yet to arrest him.

[Khaama (Afghanistan)] A local leader of the Taliban group identified as Mazlum was killed along with his 30 fighters during operations in southern Helmand ...an Afghan province populated mostly by Pashtuns, adjacent to Injun country in Pak Balochistan... province.
The Ministry of Defense (MoD) said the operation was launched in cooperation with the Afghan Air Force and artillery units of the Afghan army.
According to a statement by MoD, the operations were conducted in Sangin and Marjah district, leaving 30 snuffies dead and 11 others maimed.
The statement further added that 15 snuffies were killed and 2 others were maimed during a separate operation in Haji Aryub area of Paktia province.
At least 12 snuffies were killed and 12 others were maimed during a separate raid in Jund district of Badghis province, MoD said, adding that another Lion of Islam was killed, 2 were maimed and 10 others were maimed during separate operations in Pashtun-infested Logar, Zabul and Ghazni provinces.
According to MoD, at least 4 soldiers of the Afghan National Army (ANA) also bit the dust during the operations.
The anti-government armed Lion of Islam groups including the Taliban Lions of Islam have not commented regarding the reports so far.

[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The Taliban Lions of Islam launched an attack on Salang tunnel pass, a key pass which connects Kabul ...the capital of Afghanistan. Home to continuous fighting from 1992 to 1996 between the forces of would-be strongman and Pak ISI/Jamaat-e-Islami sock puppet Gulbuddin Hekmayar and the Northern Alliance, a period which won Hek the title Most Evil Man in the World and didn't do much for the reputations of the Northern Alliance guys either.... with the northern provinces of the country.
The officials said the attack was launched by a group of around 20 Taliban Lions of Islam who came to the area from the northern Parwan province.
The officials further added that the Lions of Islam fled back to Shenwari district after the Afghan forces responded to their fire.
According to the officials, at least one civilian was maimed in the attack and there are no other reports of casualties.
The Talibs group has not commented regarding the report so far.
This comes as the Taliban Lions of Islam launched a similar attack that led to the blockage of Salang tunnel pass nearly a year ago.
The attack was launched on Southern part of Salang pass late in July last year which triggered shootout between the Afghan cops and the assailants.

[Dhaka Tribune] The Indian army has expressed regret over the death of four civilians in an incident on Monday when troops "were forced to open fire when a large mob turned violent."
A police front man, giving details of the incident, said an army mobile patrol party shot up an unruly stone-pelting mob in Kashmire’s Churaht Qazigund area when troops had been trying to clear a road blockade.
Four persons, including two women, were killed and seven others injured in the incident.
"An inquiry has been ordered into the incident," NDTV quotes a defence spokesperson as saying.
The number of casualties reached to 43 as of Tuesday since the beginning of the violence more than a week ago over the death of a popular myrmidon, even as curfew remained in force in the Valley.
"The Army deeply regrets, the unfortunate loss of life in the incident at Churat, Qaziund where the troops were forced to open fire yesterday when a large mob turned violent, resorting to heavy stone pelting and attempted to snatch weapons from the soldiers," the spokesperson said.

Later, the police recovered the body of Nesar from the spot and brought him to Jessore General Hospital, he added.
There were seven cases against Nesar, including robbery, theft, mugging, drug and arms, said the OC.
On the other hand, Tikka said police detained his brother from home on Sunday night. He came to know about the death of his brother yesterday morning and identified the body kept at the hospital, Tikka added.
However, there is a theory which states that if ever anybody discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another theory which states that this has already happened... Illias denied the allegation.
Dr Kajal Mollik at emergency department of the hospital said the man died before he brought to the hospital.

[Nikkei Asian Review] Indonesian police have confirmed the death the country's most-wanted terrorist with links to Daesh only a week after a new police chief was sworn in. Santoso, also known as Abu Wardah, had been in hiding for several years in the jungles of Poso district, Central Sulawesi Province, before he and another gunman were gunned down during a joint operation by police and the military on Monday afternoon.
National Police chief Gen. Tito Karnavian said on Tuesday afternoon, "I've just received information that the fingerprint matches an old one of [Santoso]. He had been detained before, so we can conclude 100% that the dead person was Santoso."
The other rebel killed was identified as one of Santoso's followers.
Santoso, 40, was the commander of the Eastern Indonesia Mujahideen (MIT), which became the most prominent terror group in the country after police mostly managed to incapacitate Jemaah Islamiyah. JI, the Southeast Asian counterpart of al-Qaida, was responsible for large-scale terror attacks in Indonesia in the 2000s, including the 2002 Bali bombings that killed 202 people. JI targeted Western establishments, but MIT became known for its series of attacks targeting police officers and police facilities in 2012.
Santoso was a former seller of Islamic books who was inspired by Abu Bakar Ba'asyir, a firebrand cleric and spiritual leader of JI currently detained in an Indonesian prison. His group had been holding paramilitary training for local militants in Poso jungles ,even before Santoso pledged his allegiance to Daesh in 2014. Santoso proclaimed himself the local Daesh "commander" in Indonesia in a video uploaded to YouTube in 2015. Santoso had been on the police's wanted list since 2007.
Apart from dozens of other MIT militants still hiding in the jungles of Poso, there are other terror cells in the nation operating independently, such as one led by a man called Bahrun Naim. Naim, who is believed to have joined Daesh in Syria, allegedly orchestrated a terror attack in Jakarta in January that killed eight people.

I’m sorry, but how’s that going to work again? What jobs in the military would make it "medically necessary" for them to surgically change their gender in order to do their job? And if that is a requirement for some jobs, how have we managed to get them done for all this time?
Beats me. This is apparently the new rule of the road under the vision of the Obama administration. All I can tell you is that I’ve still got a copy of my Bluejacket’s Manual from the 1970s around here and I’m pretty sure it didn’t cover anything like this.

I do not understand this. The transgendered need daily prescription medication support to maintain their change. In a war zone this is not necessarily possible, posing a danger to the person in question and those around it.
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] Two jacket wallahs were killed after their explosives went off prematurely inside their home in Bagram district of northern Parwan province.
According to the local government officials, the incident took place earlier today in Gojar Khel area of Bagram.
The district administrative chief Abdul Shakoor Qudoosi said the suicide bombers were looking to carry out attack and had planted the explosives in a cycle of violence when it went off prematurely.
Qudoosi further added that five family members of the suicide bombers were also maimed in the incident.
The anti-government armed Death Eater groups have not commented regarding the incident so far.
This comes as at least 8 suicide bombers were killed in a similar incident in northern Kunduz province of Afghanistan late in the month of April.
Earlier, a group of 10 bandidosbully boyz were blown up by their own explosives as they were busy making an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in southeastern Ghazni province.

[DAWN] Investigators probing the Qandeel Baloch murder case may also look into the role of Mufti Abdul Qavi as well as an elder brother of the slain model who is currently serving in the army, it emerged on Monday.
In a separate development, the police produced suspect Waseem --Qandeel’s younger brother -- before a judicial magistrate, who sent him to prison on judicial remand after recording his confessional statement under Section 164 of the criminal procedure code.
Regional Police Officer Sultan Azam Temouri told Dawn that police were not relying completely on the confessional statement of Waseem, but also looking at other aspects.
"Although a confessional statement plays an important role in deciding a case, we are not totally depending on it but also working on other aspects," he said. He said if needed the police might also investigate the role of Mufti Qavi, a holy man whose video clips with the slain model on the social media caused a controversy, and Qandeel’s second brother Aslam Shaheen.
Sources said that the Multan police had written to officials concerned for permission to interrogate Aslam, who is currently posted in Bloody Karachi ...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous... RPO Temouri said that in his statement suspect Waseem had cited the so-called honour -- and not financial issues -- as the motive for the killing.
He said that the suspect had claimed having attempted to kill Qandeel twice before but remained unsuccessful.
He had confessed to drugging the victim before strangling her, and the samples of milk recovered from the scene of the crime had also been sent for a chemical analysis, the RPO said, adding that the milk was reportedly consumed by Qandeel and the forensic reports would help in further investigations.
The samples collected from the scene of the crime and during a post-mortem examination had been sent to the forensic laboratory in Lahore.

One or two Gazooks may have been lightly maimed when an Israeli Navy ship fired toward a fishing boat Monday morning. The IDF confirmed that it fired at a boat that was seen sailing past the six-mile limit imposed as part of Israel’s blockade of the Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason,-ruled territory, but said it did not know of any hit. There was no official comment from authorities in Gazoo.
An IDF spokesperson said the army had no indication the fishing boat was struck.
12-year-old Palestinian boy dies during WB riot

Palestinians say a 12-year-old boy was killed by rubber bullets fired by Israeli troops in the central West Bank. According to the Palestinian news agency Ma’an, clashes broke out when Israeli troops entered the town of al-Ram, north of Jerusalem. The report says Palestinian youths hurtled rocks and empty bottles at the security forces, who responded with live fire, rubber bullets and tear gas.
The police say they are looking into the Palestinian claims.
Israeli security forces foil weapons smuggling attempt
[IsraelTimes] Israeli security forces thwarted an arms smuggling attempt from Jordan into Israel on Tuesday when they seized a stash of weapons that included 20 handguns, five M-16 rifles and other weapons parts. The operation was carried out by the IDF, the Shin Bet and the Israel Police following intelligence efforts.
Two Palestinians said to be waiting for the stash on the Israeli side were arrested. The arrest occurred near the Israeli moshav Argaman in the Jordan Valley. The suspects were taken in for questioning.
A 57-year-old man from Gaza City was convicted of passing intelligence to Israel for over 20 years, including the location of Hamas’s tunnels, hideouts, rocket caches, as well as the houses and cars of the terror group’s fighters, a source in the Gaza military court told the Palestinian news site Safa.
A man in his 50s from Khan Younis as well as a 35-year-old from Rafah were also sentenced to death for passing information to Israelis, the report said.
Additionally, the military court source said a Gazan man who worked with Israel from 2006 to 2010 had his sentence lightened from life in prison to 15 years following an appeal.
The report did not give any information about the prison sentences of the other two men charged with being informants.

Turkey fires tens of thousands in coup plotters hunt
[IsraelTimes] The Turkish government escalates its wide-ranging crackdown against people it claims have ties to plotters of last week’s attempted coup, firing tens of thousands of public employees across the country.
The dismissals touches every aspect of government life.
Turkish media, in rapid-fire reports, says the Ministry of Education fired 15,200 people across the country; the Interior Ministry 8,777 employees; and Turkey’s Board of Higher Education requested the resignation of 1,577 university deans — akin to dismissing them.
In addition, 257 people working at the office of the prime minister are dismissed and the Directorate of Religious Affairs announces it has sacked 492 staff including clerics, preachers and religious teachers. Turkey’s Family and Social Policy Ministry says it has dismissed 393 personnel.
If I got my decimal places lined up, this totals 26,696.
The firings come on top of the roughly 9,000 people who have been detained by the government, including security personnel, judges, prosecutors, religious figures and others. Turkey’s state-run Anadolu news agency says courts have ordered 85 generals and admirals jailed pending trial.

Turkey sends dossiers to US over ‘coup-linked’ exiled cleric

“Two helicopters took off on the night linking July 17 to July 18. It could not be determined where the helicopters flying toward a forested area in Marmaris took off from. But its aim [to raid Erdoğan] has been determined. The helicopters landed at an unknown location for a while and then went missing,” Selvi wrote on July 19.
“It was determined that the two helicopters took off to rescue 25-personnel special operation units who went to raid President Erdoğan but then fled to the forested area after they failed. The two helicopters and 25 people that hid in the forested area have not been found,” he added.
Turkey won’t get visa-free travel this year: EU

[Hurriyet] Two Turkish pilots who played a role in the downing of a Russian jet in November are in custody over the July 15 failed coup in Turkey, an official said late on June 18. The downing of the Russian fighter jet on the Syrian border sparked an unprecedented diplomatic crisis between Turkey and Russia, which ended last month when the two countries agreed to restore ties.
Lots of strong adjectives -- not usual in a military report, one would think.
[Hurriyet] Turkey’s National Intelligence Organization (MİT) informed the country’s top generals hours before the coup attempt was initiated by a group of soldiers within the army on July 15, while Chief of General Staff Gen. Hulusi Akar evaluated the information and issued all necessary warnings and orders against “this despicable and miserable attempt,” according to a statement published on the General Staff’s official website on July 19.
Beginning the statement by announcing that the attempts of the “terrorist traitors who are members of an illegal gang [the Fethullahist Terrorist Organization - FETÖ] and who have nestled into the Turkish Armed Forces [TSK]” had been suppressed as of July 17 at 4:00 p.m. throughout the country, the General Staff continued by denouncing any relation between this group and the “flag-loving, overwhelming majority” within the army.
“The information given by the National Intelligence Organization on July 15, 2016, at around 4:00 p.m. was evaluated at the General Staff headquarters with the attendance of Chief of Staff General Hulusi Akar, Chief of the Army General Salih Zeki Çolak and Deputy Chief of Staff General Yaşar Güler,” said the statement, elaborating on the precaution orders given regarding the end of mobility of all military vehicles including tanks, planes, helicopters and concerning the return of the ones currently mobilized to posts.
The statement also added that Gen. Akar was threatened and forced to sign and read out on TV the “treason document, so-called declaration” and that the chief of staff had rejected these demands with “statements that include curses and with dander and firmly.”
50,000 targeted in post-coup Turkey crackdown

Around 50,000 soldiers, police, judges, civil servants and teachers have been suspended or detained since the coup attempt, stirring tensions across the country of 80 million.
On Tuesday, authorities shut down media outlets deemed to be supportive of the holy man and said 15,000 people had been fired from the education ministry, 492 from the Religious Affairs Directorate, 257 from the prime minister's office and 100 intelligence officials.
A total of 15,849 listed here, unless they are either included in or added to the 50,000 total, above.
The lira weakened to beyond 3 to the dollar after state broadcaster TRT said all university deans had been ordered to resign, recalling the sorts of broad purges seen in the wake of successful military coups of the past.
In a sign of international concern, a German official said a serious fissure had opened in Turkey and he feared fighting would break out within Germany’s large Turkish community.
"A deep split is emerging in Turkish society," Bavarian Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann told the Berliner Zeitung newspaper. "The danger of an escalation in violence between Erdogan supporters and opponents has also risen in Germany."
Turkey bans religious funerals for coup supporters
[AA.TR] The Sick Man of Europe Turkey has banned religious funerals for the supporters of the attempted military coup. The Religious Affairs Directorate said Tuesday that imams would not lead prayers for "pro-coup soldiers who targeted our nation".
The directorate, which employs all of Turkey’s 75,000 imams, said the ban would not apply to those who took part under duress or unwittingly played a role. The number of coup supporters killed during Friday’s attempt to seize power remains uncertain, although the figure is believed to be more than 20.
Alleged coup ringleaders appear before Turkish court
[AA.TR] Two army officers alleged to be among the leaders of last week’s failed coup in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey were remanded in jug when they appeared separately in court late Tuesday, a military official said.
Lt. Gen. Metin Iyidil, commander of the Land Forces Training and Doctrine Command, and Col. Muharrem Kose, the former legal adviser to the chief of general staff, appeared in different courts in capital Ankara, the official said on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on talking to the media. The source did not reveal the exact charges against the officers.

[RFE/RL] A court in Kazakhstan has sentenced a man to seven years in prison for joining Daesh in Syria. The court in the northern city of Petropavlovsk sentenced Marat Umirzakov for "joining IS in Syria in order to fight against government forces."
The court also found him guilty of "participating in the activities" of a terrorist group.
Prosecutors said Umirzakov traveled to Turkey and illegally crossed into Syria in 2012 where he joined the rebels.
Umirzakov rejected the sentence and vowed to prove his innocence. Umirzakov's lawyer Kuandyk Mukhamediyarov told said that he will appeal the sentence.

The eyes of the world are on Turkey, a country bordering Syria, hosting 2.7 million refugees, facing a renewed Kurdish insurgency and having problems with the European Union ...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing... on the refugee trek.
Such a situation demands a commitment to democracy and due process rather than moves to revive the death penalty -- something EU leaders have denounced in strong terms.
The military clique responsible for the night attack on democracy must, no doubt, face the law, but the government shouldn’t give the impression that it is using the traumatic events of July 14-15 as a cover to crush all dissent. Instead, the suspects should be tried in a manner where the judicial process conforms to international standards.
America and EU leaders have cautioned Ankara against "retribution", and German Chancellor Angela Merkel ...current chancellor of Germany. She was educated in East Germany when is was still run by commies, but in 1989 got involved with the growing democracy movement when the Berlin Wall fell. Merkel is sometimes referred to by Germans as Mom... has criticised the "revolting scenes of caprice and Dire Revenge" against soldiers in the streets.

[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] UN Secretary-General the ephemeral Ban Ki-moon warned that ISIS fighters could set up new cells across Libya and north Africa as they are driven from their stronghold of Sirte.
Ban on Monday outlined the threat from foreign terrorist fighters (FTF) in Libya in a confidential report to the Security Council, obtained by Agence La Belle France-Presse.
"The recent pressure against ISIS (ISIS) in Libya could lead its members, including FTFs, to relocate and regroup in smaller and geographically dispersed cells throughout Libya and in neighboring countries," Ban said in the report.
The defeat of ISIS fighters in Sirte "appears to be a distinct possibility", leading many to flee south as well as west, to Tunisia.
"The future impact of scattered ISIS combatants on southern local gangs may become an issue of concern," he said.
Libyan forces allied with the UN-backed government in Tripoli ...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn... have been battling to take Sirte from ISIS fighters for the past two months.
The coastal city is considered one of ISIS's most important rear bases outside of Syria and Iraq.
There are between 2,000 and 5,000 ISIS fighters from Libya, Tunisia, Algeria, Egypt, Mali, Morocco and Mauritania deployed in Sirte, Tripoli and Derna, according to the report.
Dozens of imported muscle from Tunisia have returned home from Libya "with the intent to conduct attacks," it added.
The ties extend further afield, with funds from Libya sent to Ansar Bait al-Maqdis, a jihadist group that operates in Egypt's Sinai peninsula, the report said.
Ban said Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM), which is active in Mali and across the Sahel region ... North Africa's answer to the Pak tribal areas... , continues to use Libya as a sanctuary and a base to buy arms and ammunition.
Mokhtar Belmokhtar, leader of the Al-Mourabitoun group active in the Sahel, is able to travel throughout Libya with relative ease while the head of Ansar Dine ...a mainly Tuareg group that controlled areas of Mali's northern desert together with Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) and MUJAO in early 2012... in northern Mali, Iyad Ag Ghaly, maintains a foothold in southern Libya, the report said.

On September 1, 2009, an anti-terrorism court judge, Malik Mohammad Akram, sentenced both of them to death. They were also fined Rs100,000 each and awarded five-year imprisonment under section 324.
The convicts filed appeal with the Lahore High Court Rawalpindi bench against the decision of the trial court but the high court rejected it on September 18, 2013.
They then moved the Supreme Court against the decision but it also rejected the plea on November 12, 2015. A review appeal was also turned down by the Supreme Court on February 8.
On May 24, President Mamnoon Hussain rejected the clemency petition of the convicts.
Last week, the Anti-Terrorism Court No. 1 Judge Mohammad Ayub Marth issued death warrants of the prisoners and the jail administration executed them on Monday morning.

[DAWN] Police claimed on Monday evening having killed four suspected snuffies in an ’encounter’ on the outskirts of the city and seized two suicide jackets made in Afghanistan.
Acting on a tip-off, [RING!] Cop shoppe! Sergeant Shafiq speaking! Lissen! Dis is Mahmoud da Weasel! I got a tip for youse... personnel of police and an intelligence agency conducted a targeted raid on a house in Quetta Town in the Sohrab Goth area off the Superhighway. As police encircled the home, the suspects opened fire on them, wounding two coppers.
The police retaliated and during the exchange of fire, four snuffies were killed, claimed Malir SSP Rao Anwar Ahmed.
The officer identified one of the dead as Asadullah, alias Saleh Rehmani, who he said was a cousin of a krazed killer, Naeem Bukhari, who was in jug.

The officer said that these suicide jackets were made in Afghanistan. Apart from the suicide jackets, police claimed to have recovered 20kg kaboom, two Kalashnikovs and two 9mm pistols.

"The US State Department, just a day after Congress’ hearing, publically recognised Pakistain’s meaningful progress in eliminating safe havens of forces of Evil and also recognised the fact the country has paid huge cost fighting terrorism."
He also informed the upper house that the Foreign Relations Committee of US congress closely observes developments in Pak-US relations as Pakistain is major recipient of US assistance.
"Interest of the Congress is understandable regarding how Pakistain spends its assistance which should be helping the US in achieving its objectives," Aziz said.
"Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif ... served two non-consecutive terms as prime minister, heads the Pakistain Moslem League (Nawaz). Noted for his spectacular corruption, the 1998 Pak nuclear test, border war with India, and for being tossed by General Musharraf... and our military leadership have met the Congressional committee leaders during their visits," Aziz informed the senate.
Pakistain is vigilant and is closely engaging with the US at various levels to ensure its national interest and priorities are duly considered by the US decision makerd, he maintained.

Six-hundred copperslocked away Please don't kill me! 63 suspects on Monday morning as part of a wide-scale operation during which a secret agent with a false criminal identity exposed a wide-scale illicit weapons industry in Arab sectors of society.
The undercover agent documented dozens of weapons acquisition and drugs deals which has led to the arrest of the suspects.
During the operation, dubbed ’Operation 500,’ the agent acquired twelve improvised Carlo sub-machine guns, three Kalashnikov assault rifles, two improvised M-16 machine guns, four handguns, tear grenades, ammunition and large quantities of cocaine, hashish and marijuana.
According to the police, the agent became a popular and respected figure among criminal circles in the area and was even called upon to act as an arbiter in disagreements and disputes between the criminals.
"I hope and I believe that the agent who assisted us and joined the police force last night will serve as an example to the young generation among Arabs who suffer and pay a heavy price for the high levels of crime in its sector."
Shortly before the exposure, the agent commented on the recruitment process: "I always saw myself on the side that enforces the law. When it was suggested to me that I act as an agent I didn’t think twice. It’s a challenging mission. The phenomenon of weapons in the Arab areas seriously concerns the residents. It is a dangerous phenomenon with which I am intimately familiar."
Before the mass arrests were made on Monday morning, a ceremony took place during which Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan, Police Commissioner Roni Alsheikh and Maj. Gen. Motti Cohen awarded the police agent with a gun and a certificate paying tribute to his activities:
"I salute this brave agent who exposed a weapons dealer network, and the Israel police which participated in the operation," said Erdan.

Abdul Aziz, a final year student of industrial and production engineering (IPE) department at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, was picked up from the campus in the afternoon. Police say he is the coordinator of banned holy warrior outfit Ansarullah Bangla Team at SUST.

A former student of Sylhet Cadet College, Aziz did not attend his classes last year and resumed studies this year.
DMP Deputy Commissioner (media) Masudur Rahman said: "We have information that Abdul Aziz worked as a coordinator of Ansarullah Bangla Team at the university. We have detained him for further questioning."
Ansarullah members are accused of killing at least 11 secularist writers and publishers and two LGBT rights activists since 2013. Two of the victims ‐ Ananta Bijoy Das and Nazimuddin Samad ‐ are from Sylhet.
On the other hand, Mahmud is a resident of the Sylhet city’s Jalalabad area. He was an LLM student.
Leading University Vice-Chancellor Prof Kamruzzaman Chowdhury confirmed the arrest of Mahmud to the Dhaka Tribune.
Wishing to be unnamed, a LLM student said that Mahmud had been picked up from an exam hall.
A high official of Sylhet Metropolitan Police said that the duo had been under the CTTC unit’s surveillance for a long time.

Musharraf in March left Pakistain for Dubai to seek medical treatment, shortly after the country's top court lifted a ban on his travel.
He is facing trial on treason and other charges related to his seizure of power as army chief in 1999 in a coup, the murder of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto ... 11th Prime Minister of Pakistain in two non-consecutive terms from 1988 until 1990 and 1993 until 1996. She was the daughter of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, founder of the Pakistain People's Party, who was murdered at the instigation of General Ayub Khan. She was murdered in her turn by person or persons unknown while campaigning in late 2007. Suspects include, to note just a few, Baitullah Mehsud, General Pervez Musharraf, the ISI, al-Qaeda in Pakistain, and her husband, Asif Ali Zardari, who shows remarkably little curiosity about who done her in... in 2007 and the killing of a prominent holy man in a military operation in Islamabad.
A three-member bench of the special court hearing the cases passed orders to freeze his bank accounts and confiscate his property after Musharraf failed to appear for a hearing, media reported. There had also been a similar order in 2011 relating to the Bhutto case.

Dawn reported Musharraf's counsel argued the former president was in ill health and could not appear before the court in person.
