Guess Why the Liberal Media Ignored the Maryland Mass Shooting This Week: You get one guess
[Gateway Pundit] our people were shot dead including the shooter who took her own life at a Maryland Rite Aid distribution center this week. Three others were wounded.

The 26-year-old shooter Snochia Moseley was a temporary Rite Aid employee and described as a typically "nice" person. Her motive for the shooting remains unknown.

Mike Carrre, an employee who works next door at a furniture distribution company said she came in to work in a bad mood and then started shooting.

This was the second mass shooting in Maryland this year. In June Jarrod Ramos killed five people and injured several others at the Capital Gazette in Annapolis, Maryland. The story made headlines for several days. Several far left hacks blamed Trump for the shooting despite the fact that Ramos had an ongoing feud with the paper for several years.

But this week’s mass shooting received little media attention.
Snochia was a black female temporary employee.

Obviously, Snochia did not fit the liberal media narrative.

FDA Links Popular Flea, Tick Medications To Neurological Problems In Dogs, Cats
PHILADELPHIA (CBS Local) ‐ Some flea and tick medications can cause adverse reactions in dogs and cats, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration warned Thursday.

Some animals receiving drugs in the isoxazoline class, including products sold under the brand names Bravecto, Nexgard and Simparica, have experienced adverse events such as muscle tremors, ataxia and seizures, the FDA says.

Study Shows Octopuses Given Ecstasy Get All Cuddly

"Another product in this class, Credelio, recently received FDA approval. These products are approved for the treatment and prevention of flea infestations, and the treatment and control of tick infestations," the FDA said in a statement.

While the FDA says the medications are still considered safe, it nevertheless issued an alert to owners and veterinarians.

The FDA says it was also working with manufacturers of isoxazoline products to include new label information to highlight neurologic events.

"The agency is asking the manufacturers to make the changes to the product labeling in order to provide veterinarians and pet owners with the information they need to make treatment decisions for each pet on an individual basis," the FDA said.

National Review - Grassley's Kangaroo Court
[NR] So now it looks like next Thursday.
But it could be Christmas.
On Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s manifestly meritorious nomination to the Supreme Court, what was supposed to be the vote out of the Senate Judiciary Committee this past Thursday now appears to be sliding into a hearing to be held next Thursday. Or, who knows, maybe a Thursday or two after that. Or maybe The First of Never ‐ though even that would undoubtedly be postponed to The Twelfth of Never.

Delay, delay, delay. It is what the Democrats want and it is what the Democrats are getting. They took the measure of their opposition and figured the GOP would bring a knife to a gunfight. From the first day of the confirmation hearing, committee chairman Chuck Grassley (R., Iowa) ceded control of the proceedings to the minority ‐ in particular, to its ever-harder-Left, mak show presidential primary contestants.

It’s a kangaroo court.

Understand, this is not about Christine Blasey Ford. She’s a tool ‐ a quite willing tool, but a tool all the same. This is not even about the eminently qualified federal circuit-court judge Brett Kavanaugh ‐ it would be no different regardless of which nominee President Trump selected in consultation with White House counsel Don McGahn, the Federalist Society, the Heritage Foundation, and the rest of the originalist, conservative legal community come of age. Democrats do not want a model of constitutional fidelity and judicial restraint elevated to the Supreme Court. End of story.

And who can blame them? Republicans did not want the eminently qualified federal circuit-court judge Merrick Garland to be elevated to the Supreme Court.

Scientists discover how to 'upload knowledge to your brain'
[Telegraph] Feeding knowledge directly into your brain, just like in sci-fi classic The Matrix, could soon take as much effort as falling asleep, scientists believe.

Researchers claim to have developed a simulator which can feed information directly into a person’s brain and teach them new skills in a shorter amount of time, comparing it to "life imitating art".

They believe it could be the first steps in developing advanced software that will make Matrix-style instant learning a reality.

In the neo-noir sci-fi classic, protagonist Neo is able to learn kung fu in seconds after the martial art is ’uploaded’ straight to his brain.

Researchers from HRL Laboratories, based in California, say they have found a way to amplify learning, only on a much smaller scale than seen in the Hollywood film.

They studied the electric signals in the brain of a trained pilot and then fed the data into novice subjects as they learned to pilot an aeroplane in a realistic flight simulator.

The study, published in the journal Frontiers in Human Neuroscience, found that subjects who received brain stimulation via electrode-embedded head caps improved their piloting abilities and learnt the task 33 per cent better than a placebo group.

Yale Study: There Are Probably Twice As Many Illegal Immigrants Living In America As Commonly Believed
h/t Instapundit
How many illegal immigrants are currently living in the U.S.? The number often used when discussing the topic is around 11 million. For instance, last year Pew Research published "5 facts about illegal immigration in the U.S." which states, "The Center’s preliminary estimate of the unauthorized immigrant population in 2016 is 11.3 million." But according to a newly published study by Yale University, the actual number may be double that or possibly even higher:

#1  Just think about the extra costs on Americans as most of those will not be productive enough to pay for all the infrastructure supporting them, plus they'll push up rents and lower wages.

Ignoring illegal immigration is a tacit subsidy to the establishment who collect the benefits while poorer Americans foot the bill.

China-Japan-Koreas
Here are the faces of the first 2 US soldiers identified from North Korean remains

Pfc. William H. Jones and Master Sgt. Charles H. McDaniel

The first two U.S. service members have been identified from remains repatriated from North Korea.

Army Master Sgt. Charles H. McDaniel of Vernon, Ind., who was 32, and Army Pfc. William H. Jones of Nash County, N.C., who was 19, were identified by the Defense Department as the first two soldiers who have been repatriated from North Korea.

"The Army is grateful that two U.S. Soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice have been identified and will be returned to their families. Pfc. William H. Jones and Master Sgt. Charles H. McDaniel served our nation bravely; and, today, we remember their service and honor their sacrifice. As our nation observes National POW/MIA Recognition Day, it is especially fitting that Soldiers reported missing in action in North Korea have been accounted for and will be properly laid to rest in the weeks ahead," Secretary of the Army Mark T. Esper and U.S. Army Chief of Staff Gen. Mark A. Milley said in a statement on Facebook.

Both soldiers were reported missing in November 1950.

Their families were notified earlier in the week, and were expected to be present at a National POW/MIA Recognition Day ceremony on Friday, to be held at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific in Honolulu.

The two service members were among remains in 55 cases transferred from North Korea to the U.S. a few weeks ago.

Each box is said to contain multiple remains, between "three and 18 sets of remains" per box.

The repatriation of Korean War remains was one of the topics agreed upon by President Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un at their June 12 summit in Singapore.

The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA), which is in charge of the identification process, said the two soldiers' remains contained dental material, making them easiest to identify. Dental records, X-rays and DNA samples were used in the identification process.

McDaniel's remains also included his dog tags, which were returned to his two sons. It was the only set of dogs tags returned with the remains.

McDaniel was an 8th Cavalry Regiment Medical Company medic who assisted the 3rd Battalion of the same regiment. His unit encountered Chinese forces while fighting in a North Korean village. He was reported missing in action shortly after on Nov. 2, 1950.

Jones served in the 2nd Battalion, 24th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division. His unit battled Chinese forces in the area of Pakchon, North Korea, and he was reported missing Nov. 26, 1950.

The 55 cases containing the remains were handed over to the U.S. on July 27, a day coinciding with the 65th anniversary of the Korean War Armistice. They underwent a two-day forensic review process at Osan Air Base in South Korea before transfer to Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam in Hawaii. An official repatriation ceremony was held Aug. 1.

Approximately 7,600 U.S. personnel remain unaccounted for after the Korean War, with some 5,300 believed to be lost in North Korea. Families of some 92 percent of those missing personnel have provided DNA samples for their hopeful and eventual identification.
Welcome home.

India-Pakistan
Indian troops launch massive operation in IHK's Pulwama district
[DAWN] In India-held Kashmire, Indian troops launched a massive cordon and search operation in several villages of south Kashmire's Pulwama district on Saturday.

According to the Kashmire Media Service, the troops cordoned off Lassipora, Armula, Alaipora, Batnur, Garbug, Naupora Payeen, Hajdarpora and Acchan areas of the district and launched door-to-door searches.

The operation comes following the killing of three Indian police personnel posted in India-held Kashmire reportedly by armed Kashmiris, who have been waging a struggle for the Kashmiris' right to self-determination.

The three were taken hostage when Kashmiri fighters raided over a dozen homes of coppers in two southern Kashmire villages, Indian officials said, adding that bullet-riddled bodies of the kidnapped coppers were recovered on Friday.

The killings came days after the region's largest group fighting for Kashmire's independence asked officers to quit the Kashmiri police force and stay away from operations targeting pro-independence fighters.

A fourth policeman who had resigned from the police days earlier was also among those taken hostage early on Friday. The former officer was released unharmed, Indian police said.

In pictures: Beer flows as Germany's Oktoberfest opens in Munich
[BBC] The first beers have been served at the Oktoberfest beer festival in the German city of Munich.

About six million visitors are expected at the festival, which runs until 7 October.

Last year about 7.5m litres (1.6m gallons) were consumed during the event.

The festival began as a horse race staged to mark a royal wedding in 1810, with the first beer tents appearing later in the 19th Century.

Russia's military unintelligence - Why the Russian intelligence agencies keep failing abroad
[Aljazeera] On September 5, the UK named two agents of the Russian military intelligence (GRU) as the main suspects in the Skripal poisoning case.

The two are accused of depositing a nerve agent in the Salisbury home of Sergei Skripal, a former Russian double agent, which poisoned him and his daughter in March this year.

The British authorities released the photos, personal details and even the route the two agents allegedly took to accomplish their mission. Russia, of course, has denied everything, but with the amount of evidence uncovered, it will have a hard time convincing the international community of its innocence.

There have been some observers who have expressed their doubt that Moscow is responsible for the Skripal poisoning, arguing that it could not have acted so clumsily, especially after the Litvinenko case. Why would Russia want another such scandal - the argument goes.

They are partially right: Russia really doesn't need such a scandal right now. Yet, we should not be surprised about its intelligence agencies undertaking such a mission and failing in it. As the popular saying goes: Never attribute to conspiracy that which is adequately explained by incompetence.

For some reason, there is a general perception that unlike other state institutions in Russia, the intelligence agencies are quite professional and capable. Perhaps Hollywood should be blamed for this misconception. To garner interest and sell its films, the US movie industry tends to feature unrealistic depictions of Russian spies as dangerous and highly skilful men and women, who fight it out with their Western counterparts.

But if one is to shoot a realistic film about the GRU, it would probably have to be a comedy. In fact, the last few years of Russian intelligence blunders provide plenty of material for the script.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
Army misses recruiting goal for first time in over a decade
[Wash Times] The Army missed its recruiting goal this year for the first time in well over a decade, which officials blamed on increased competition in a strong private-sector economy and the fact that "nobody wants to talk" to recruiters on the phone or face to face these days.

For the fiscal year ending Sept. 30, Army leaders said they pulled in about 70,000 new recruits. The goal was 76,500.

It’s the first time the Army fell short of its target since 2005, and all of the other branches of the military hit their benchmarks this year.

"We obviously thought we would do better than that," Maj. Gen. Joe Calloway, director of military personnel management for the Army, told the Associated Press, adding that in recent years the Army had pulled in at least 3,000 more recruits than expected.

"There was hope that they would be able to do the same thing this year," he said. "That did not pan out."

Mr. Calloway said the strong economy is partly to blame, as at least some potential recruits have chosen against enlisting and instead sought out jobs in the private sector. That reality comes even as the Army has relaxed some of its rules on permitting recruits with previous marijuana use or certain health issues.

Christine Blasey Ford Will Drive Across Country Because She Doesn't Like Airplanes
[Hot Air] Earlier today Allahpundit looked at the negotiations taking place between Christina Blasey Ford and the Judiciary Committee. The GOP agreed to push the date to Wednesday but is requiring that Ford testify first. A Politico story published today points to one additional factor which is apparently motivating Ford to push the date of the hearing back as far as possible: She plans to drive cross country to the hearing in Washington, DC.

At first blush, this really sounds like a stunt. There are already people flying banners of support behind airplanes in northern California. Now Blasey is going to drive cross-country in what sounds an awful lot like a politician’s bus tour. No doubt we’ll be seeing excited tweets from people who encounter her at every gas stop along the way and probably a map showing her current location on CNN. But last night, CNN published a story saying Ford’s claustrophobia has been known to her friends for years though they only recently learned she blamed it on her alleged assault at age fifteen:

Woman on vacation reportedly finds dead tortoise in her vagina
Not again?
[Sun, via NY Post] A British woman has been questioned by police in Spain after doctors found a dead tortoise inside her vagina, according to reports in the Spanish media.

Staff at the emergency department of a medical center in the south of the island Tenerife are said to have called local cops after making the bizarre discovery, the respected daily El Dia claimed.

The unnamed woman, described as an expat by El Confidential, is said to have sought help after suffering pain in her genital area which doctors diagnosed as an infection caused by the reptile.

The Sun has not been able to independently verify any of the claims that have been widely reported in Spanish media.

She is said to have told police she began to feel odd after going out partying with a group of British friends a couple of days earlier, El Periodico reports.

She apparently had no idea how the reptile ended up where it did.

Alcohol causes one in 20 deaths worldwide, says World Health Organization
[Guardian] Alcohol is responsible for more than 5% of all deaths worldwide, or around 3 million a year, new figures have revealed.

The data, part of a report from the World Health Organization, shows that about 2.3 million of those deaths in 2016 were of men, and that almost 29% of all alcohol-caused deaths were down to injuries ‐ including traffic accidents and suicide.

The report, which comes out every four years, reveals the continued impact of alcohol on public health around the world, and highlights that the young bear the brunt: 13.5% of deaths among people in their 20s are linked to booze, with alcohol responsible for 7.2% of premature deaths overall.

It also stresses that harm from drinking is greater among poorer consumers than wealthier ones.

When I grew up fast I guess I grew up mean
There's a thousand things inside my head I wish I ain't seen
And now I just wander through a real bad dream
Feelin' like I'm coming apart at the seams

Thank you Jack Daniel's Old Number Seven

So I'm sitting as the bar stool it starts to grow roots
Feelin' like an old worn out pair of shoes
Tell me what is it that I should do
When I'm swimming in the liquor only half way through
So I'm watching as his wings spread as wide as could be
Come on now and wrap them around me
'Cause all I want to do now is fall to sleep
Come down here and lay next to me

Pope Accepts Resignations of Two Chilean Bishops
[National Review] Pope Francis has accepted the resignations of two more Chilean bishops amid the worldwide sex-abuse scandal roiling the Church, the Vatican said on Friday.

The two bishops who stepped down are Bishop Carlos Eduardo Pellegrín Barrera of the diocese of San Bartolomé de Chillán and Bishop Cristián Enrique Contreras Molina of the diocese of San Felipe. Prosecutors recently announced that Barrera, 60, is under investigation for sex crimes. Molina, 71, was deemed innocent of such crimes by the Vatican in 2014, and a civil prosecutor declared the case against him had too little evidence to proceed, according to BishopAccountability.org.

Every one of Chile’s 34 bishops offered to resign in May after a Vatican investigation resulted in a 2,300-page report showing cleric in the country neglected and hid sexual abuse. So far, the Pope has accepted the resignations of seven of them, counting Barrera and Molina. Chilean prosecutors and police raided four diocese offices last week to investigate potential evidence of sexual abuse and of a cover-up.

The turmoil in Chile is a microcosm of the sexual-abuse scandal facing the Church worldwide, which was reignited earlier this year by a Pennsylvania grand jury that found rampant abuse of minor children by 301 priests over about 70 years, and by the revelation of Cardinal Theodore McCarrick’s abuse of minors and adult seminarians earlier this year.

Jobless claims fall to 49-year low for third straight week
[The Hill] Applications for unemployment benefits fell to a new 49-year low for the third straight week, reflecting a tight job market.

U.S. filings for jobless claims fell 3,000 to a seasonally adjusted 201,000 in the week ended Sept. 15, the lowest level since Nov. 15 1969, the Labor Department said Thursday.

The four-week moving average, which is a better gauge for the direction of job market, was 205,750, a decrease of 2,250 from the previous week's 208,000, the lowest level since Dec. 6, 1969 when it was 204,500.

The effects of Hurricane Florence, which hit North Carolina and South Carolina last weekend, on jobs is not yet known.

The storm, which has caused widespread flooding across the two states, may temporarily push up unemployment figures in the next few weeks like Hurricanes Harvey and Irma did last year.

Senator Grassley Gives Kavanaugh Accuser More Time to Decide
[Daily Caller] Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley announced he was going to give Christine Blasey Ford more time to decide whether or not she wanted to appear before his committee to testify.
"I just granted another extension to Dr Ford to decide if she wants to proceed w the statement she made last week to testify to the senate," Grassley tweeted. "She shld decide so we can move on I want to hear her."
He also hoped that Judge Kavanaugh understands his decision to give her more time.

The tweet did not specify an exact deadline this time around, and thus far, Grassley has not altered the scheduled Monday vote.

Grassley’s previous deadline was Friday night at 10p.m. As that deadline approached, Ford’s lawyers asked for another day for her to decide. Grassley tweeted shortly thereafter that he felt a bit like he was being played.

Three policemen reported killed in held-Kashmir
[DAWN] Three Indian police personnel posted in India-held Kashmire were killed, reportedly by armed Kashmiris, who have been waging a struggle for the Kashmiris' right to self-determination.

A fourth policeman who had resigned from the police days earlier was also among those taken hostage early Friday. The former officer was released unharmed, Indian police said.

3.) A province of India. It is majority (60 percent) Sikh and Hindoo (37 percent), which means it has relatively few Moslem riots....

government on Friday suspended the principal and medical superintendent of Sheikh Zayed Medical College and Hospital (SZMC&H), Rahim Yar Khan, for their lack of competence after an incident of sexual assault on a lady doctor took place in the hospital's premises.

Dr Shabbir Warriach of the Young Doctors Association (YDA) alleged that in the incident of sexual assault on lady doctor by a sweeper on Wednesday, the principal and MS had pressurised the victim.

Warriach also said that all the doctors of YDA will hold a protest demonstration on Saturday against the senior doctors' act to save the sweeper.
Earlier this week, the doctors had said their colleague was alone in a room when a sweeper tried to overpower her. She cried to alert the security guards around and succeeded to save herself. Guards held the suspect and handed him over to the police.

Police spokesperson Zeeshan Randhawa told Dawn that a first information report was registered against the accused ‐ a sweeper of a private sanitation company.

The principal, however, has denied the occurrence of any incident of a rape attempt.

SZMC&H Principal Professor Dr Mubarak Ali Chaudhary and Medical Superintendent Dr Ghulam Rabbani were both suspended by the secretary of specialised healthcare and medical education in Punjab under Section 6 of the Punjab Employees Discipline and Accountability Act 2006 (PEDA).

Dr Abdul Rehman professor of Pathology (BS-20) was assigned to take charge of the post of principal of SZMC&H.

The MS of the hospital has also been suspended under the same section while Dr Kahalid Mehmood has given the additional charge of MS.

Focal person for SZMC&H Rana Illyas Ahmed confirmed to Dawn that the suspensions had taken place

India cancels New York meeting with Pakistan, says PM Khan's 'true face revealed'
[DAWN] New Delhi on Friday called off a meeting between the Pak and Indian foreign ministers on the sidelines of the United Nations
...the Oyster Bay money pit...

General Assembly, just a day after confirming the development.

Minister of External Affairs (MEA) Spokesperson Raveesh Kumar, confirming the development, cited "unclean intentions" on Pakistain's side.

"It is obvious that behind Pakistain's proposal for talks to make a fresh beginning, the evil agenda of Pakistain stands exposed and the true face of the new Prime Minister Imran Khan

The MEA spokesperson referred to the "killing of Indian security forces" allegedly by "Pak entities" and Islamabad's decision to release stamps allegedly "glorifying terrorists" as the reasons behind the cancellation of talks.

Pakistain Post had issued 20 special postage stamps on July 24, according to The Nation, carrying photos of Burhan Wani and his two associates. Hizbul Mujahideen

commander Burhan Wani, a Kashmiri freedom fighter, was slain by Indian troops in 2017.

Although the stamps were issued on July 24, a day before the general elections were held, the issue was raised by Indian media in the last 24 hours.

A day earlier on Thursday, Raveesh Kumar had confirmed India's agreement to Pakistain's request for a meeting between Foreign Minister Qureshi and his Indian counterpart Sushma Swaraj on the sidelines of the UNGA.

The requests were made by PM Khan and Qureshi in two separate letters handed to Indian officials.

"I can confirm that on the request of the Pak side, a meeting between the external affairs minister and the Pak foreign minister will take place on the sidelines of the UNGA at a mutually convenient date and time," Kumar had said, stressing that the planned meeting should not be misconstrued as a dialogue.

"I must differentiate between meeting and a dialogue," said the Indian official. "This is a meeting and not dialogue. This is a meeting which we have agreed to, based on a request which we have got from the Pak side."

Ben Carson: Left Has Conquered Academia, Media, But Trump Is Saving the Courts
[Breitbart] U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Ben Carson said on Friday that the leftists have already taken control of academia and the media in the U.S. but have yet to add control of the U.S. judiciary because Americans elected Donald J. Trump as president.

"If you really understand the big picture of what’s been going on, then what’s going on with Judge Kavanaugh will make perfectly good sense to you because, you see, there have been people in this country for a very long time ‐ go all the way back to the Fabians ‐ who have wanted to fundamentally change this country," Carson said at the 2018 Values Voters Summit in Washington, D.C. "They don’t like what America is and what it represents, and they want to change us to another system."

"And in order to do that, there are three things that they must control: the educational system, the media, and the courts. OK?" Carson said. "The first two they have."

"The courts they thought they had, and it was snatched out from under their noses in November of 2016," Carson said.

"So, you know, they’re like wet hornets, you know, just completely lost control at that point and have gone off the deep end," Carson said. "And the further they get away from being able to control the courts, the more desperate they become."

Citizenship for Afghans, Bengalis opposed
[DAWN] Businessmen and traders on Thursday rejected the prime minister’s announcement for the grant of Pak citizenship to Afghan nationals living in the country for decades and warned that if the government made such a move, they would stop paying taxes and utility bills.

In separate statements, All Pakistain Commercial Exporters Association chairman Abdul Jalil, Beautiful Downtown Peshawar
...capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa administrative and economic hub for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan. Peshawar is situated near the eastern end of the Khyber Pass, convenient to the Pak-Afghan border. Peshawar has evolved into one of Pakistan's most ethnically and linguistically diverse cities, which means lots of gunfire.
Chamber of Small Traders and Small Industries senior vice president Haji Mamoor Khan and Markaz Tanzeem-e-Tajiran Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa president Malik Mehr Ilahi urged the premier to withdraw announcement on citizenship for Afghans, Bengalis saying it has caused serious unrest among businessmen and traders.

Mr Jalil said the country had around four million Afghans and most of them lived in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, where they completely controlled different businesses.

"These Afghan nationals are not paying any kind of tax and are in the habit of fleeing to own country whenever the Federal Board of Revenue or other tax collecting agency cracks down on tax evaders," he said.

He said Paks regularly paid taxes but didn’t get incentives.

Mr Mamoor said the premier had issued the citizenship statement without knowing ground realities.

"We (businessmen and traders) have been left with no option but to stop paying utility bills and taxes as the foreigners doing different businesses don’t pay taxes," he warned.

Vietnamese President Tran Dai Quang dead at 61: state media
[DAWN] Vietnam's President Tran Dai Quang died on Friday at age 61 after a prolonged and serious illness, state media reported.

He passed away from a "serious illness despite devoted treatment by professors and doctors" both in Vietnam and abroad, the official Vietnam News Agency said.

In office as president since April 2016 after more than four decades at the powerful Ministry of Public Security, Quang had a reputation as a tough leader with little tolerance for dissent.

Though he held one of the country's top four positions and was officially the head of state, his role as president was seen as largely ceremonial, greeting visiting leaders and hosting diplomatic events in a bid to boost Vietnam's profile on the world stage.

Moon to carry private message from Kim Jong Un to Trump
[DAWN] A beaming South Korean President Moon Jae-in, freshly returned home on Thursday from a whirlwind three-day summit with Kim Jong Un, said the North Korean leader wants the US secretary of state to visit Pyongyang soon for nuclear talks, and also hopes for a quick follow-up to his June summit with President Donald Trump.

Only hours after standing with Kim on the peak of a volcano that’s at the heart of Kim dynasty propaganda, Moon told reporters in Seoul that he will be carrying a private message from Kim to Trump about the nuclear standoff when he meets the US president in New York next week on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly session.

Both Trump, who has repeatedly spoken of his good relationship with Kim, and the North Korean leader have expressed a desire to follow up on the June meeting in Singapore that was meant to settle an impasse that seemed to be edging toward war last year. But there are worries among observers about whether Kim is as committed to denuclearisation as he claims.

Moon faces increasing pressure from Washington to find a path forward in efforts to get Kim to completely and unilaterally abandon his nuclear arsenal, which is thought to be closing in on the ability to accurately target any part of the continental United States.

“There are things that the United States wants us to convey to North Korea, and on the other side there are also things that North Korea wants us to convey to the United States,” Moon said at a press centre in Seoul where reporters had watched parts of his summit with Kim on huge video screens that occasionally showed live streams from Pyongyang. “I will faithfully serve that role when I meet President Trump to facilitate dialogue between North Korea and the United States.”

Several killed in terrorist attack on Iranian military parade
[Jpost] "Shooting began by several button men from behind the stand during the parade. There are several killed and injured," a correspondent told state television.

At least 20 people were killed after unknown button men opened fire during a military parade in the southwestern Iranian city of Ahvaz on Saturday, Iranian media reported.

"Shooting began by several button men from behind the stand during the parade. There are several killed and injured," a correspondent told state television
... and if you can't believe state television who can you believe?
Eyewitnesses reported that the attackers were wearing military dress and that the shooting lasted for some ten minutes, the semi-official Iranian Student News Agency reported. Participants and spectators of the parade threw themselves to the ground at the sound of the gunfire.

The four or five attackers were killed by security forces, Iranian Republic News Agency reported.

State television blamed "takfiri
...an adherent of takfir wal hijra, an offshoot of Salafism that regards everybody who doesn't agree with them as apostates who most be killed...
elements," a reference to Islamist bully boys, for the attack in Ahvaz, the center of Khuzestan province, which has been the site of sporadic protests by Iran's Arab minority.

The parade in Ahvaz, and others held around the country, marks the 37th anniversary of the beginning of the Iran-Iraq War, the longest and bloodiest conflict in Iran's modern history.
Update from Yahoo at 12:30p.m. EDT:
The Islamic State (IS) jihadist group claimed to have carried out the rare assault in the southwestern city of Ahvaz, while Iranian officials accused "a foreign regime" backed by the United States of being behind it.

The city lies in Khuzestan, a province bordering Iraq that has a large ethnic Arab community and has seen separatist violence in the past that Iran has blamed on its regional rivals.

IS jihadists said via their propaganda mouthpiece Amaq that "Islamic State fighters attacked a gathering of Iranian forces" in Ahvaz.

State television gave a casualty toll of 29 dead and 57 wounded, while the official news agency IRNA said those killed included women and children among spectators at the rally. Many of the wounded were in critical condition.

Zarif did not specify which regional government he held responsible for the shooting, but Iran's elite Revolutionary Guards said the attackers were funded by Sunni arch-rival Saudi Arabia.

"Those who opened fire on civilians and the armed forces have links to the Ahvazi movement," Guards spokesman Ramezan Sharif told the semi-official agency ISNA.

"They are funded by Saudi Arabia and attempted to cast a shadow over the Iranian armed forces."

Khuzestan was a major battleground of the 1980s war with Iraq and the province saw unrest in 2005 and 2011, but has since been largely quiet.

Attacks by Kurdish rebels on military patrols along the border further north are relatively common.

But attacks on regime targets inside major cities are far rarer.

India-Pakistan
Three Police Abducted and Killed in Indian Kashmir
[AnNahar] The bodies of three coppers kidnapped by turbans were recovered in Indian-administered Kashmire on Friday, police said, as tensions mount ahead of local civic polls.

Police officers, many of them local Moslems, have been increasingly targeted in recent months in the territory rocked for decades by violence.

The increased focus on coppers seems to be in response to what appear to be new police tactics of detaining the family members of prominent bully boys.

Kashmire has been divided since the end of British colonial rule in 1947 but both India and Pakistain claim the former Himalayan kingdom in full. India has about 500,000 soldiers in the zone it controls, where separatist groups demand independence or a merger with Pakistain.

The latest incident saw groups of armed turbans raiding the homes of at least 11 coppers in the twin villages of Kapran and Batgund in southern Kashmire valley.

They kidnapped three Special Police Officers (SPOs), as well as the brother of a police constable, police and witnesses said.

"Three bullet-riddled bodies of the SPOs were found lying in the fields," a police officer told AFP, speaking on condition of anonymity
... for fear of being murdered...
The brother of the constable was released unharmed.

The SPOs are the lowest-rank coppers who are often deployed for counter-insurgency duties. Police authorities recently advised officers not to visit their homes without security and not for more than two hours at a stretch.

Last month turbans kidnapped 11 coppers and their relatives, after police detained family members of prominent turbans and allegedly set ablaze the homes of two rebel leaders.

All of them were released the next day without harm, but a commander of the Hizbul Mujahideen
...Party of Holy Warriors, founded by Muhammad Ahsan Dar in September 1989. One of the Pak sock puppets waging jihad in Indian Kashmir. It was originally organized as the armed wing of Jamaat-e-Islami. In 1990, Dar declared Hizbul as the sword arm of Jamaat. Hizbul murdered many of the pro-independence intelligentsia in Kashmir. After the organization was taken over by Syed Salahuddin Dar and several other ex-Hizb leaders were assassinated between 2001 and 2003...
(HM) bully boy group warned of "an eye for an eye" next time if government forces did not stop harassing families of bully boys.

On Wednesday an audio statement surfaced on social media in which HM commander Riyaz Naikoo was heard demanding the SPOs quit or face death.

Several SPOs publicly resigned after the warning.

Tensions in the region have been rising since India's Supreme Court began hearing a case challenging Article 35A of the Indian constitution this year -- a provision which bars Indians from outside the disputed territory buying land there.

Civic polls slated for October and November have added to the tension, with two of the main pro-India political parties saying they would boycott the vote.

HM is the largest of the local bully boy groups fighting the Indian military in the disputed region, demanding independence or a merger of the territory with Pakistain.

The fighting has left tens of thousands of people dead, mostly civilians.

Turkey Court Keeps Austrian Student in Jail on Terror Charges
In which the evil neo-Ottomans jail a nasty little Communist journalist who just happens to be a friend of the Kurds — the PKK, to be exact.
[AnNahar] A Ottoman Turkish court ordered an Austrian student and journalist to be kept in jail ahead of a trial on terror charges following his detention last week, his lawyer said on Friday.

Max Zirngast, who writes for the far-left German-language magazine Re:volt, was detained in Ankara on September 11 and formally tossed in the slammer
Yez got nuttin' on me, coppers! Nuttin'!
by the Ankara court late Thursday, his lawyer Tamer Dogan told AFP.

Zirngast, 29, was charged with being a member of an extreme leftist terror organization, Dogan added.

He had previously published articles on the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), which has waged an insurgency inside The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
since 1984.

The PKK is blacklisted as a terror group by Ankara and its Western allies.

The Austrian has been in Turkey for three years and was a masters student at Middle East Technical University (ODTU) in the political sciences department.

He is accused of being a member of the Ottoman Turkish Communist Party (TKP)/Kivilcim group, which is banned by Turkey as a terror organization.

Two other suspects, Hatice Goz and Mithatcan Turetken, were also kept in jail by the court in the capital on the same charge.

But the lawyer and student claimed such an organization "doesn't exist".

"Max has no links with any illegal organization," Dogan said, adding that the student rejected the allegations against him.

"He is a journalist working in the scope of the law," the lawyer insisted, saying Zirngast had also written for jacobinmag.com and leftist German daily junge Welt.

Zirngast defended himself in Ottoman Turkish, refusing a translator.

Police asked Zirngast about books he had by leftwing intellectuals but he insisted he also had books of different political stances and literature texts, according to court testimony obtained by AFP.

Lawyer Dogan said the student had researched Hikmet Kivilcimli, a Ottoman Turkish communist leader and Marxist intellectual, and was asked by authorities why he conducted such research. He said it was for a university presentation.

Since the July 2016 attempted coup and subsequent arrest and conviction of journalists for alleged terror links, rights activists have condemned Ankara's violations of freedom of expression.

The arrest of Zirngast further risks increasing tensions between Ankara and Vienna, which has angered Turkey by calling for a freeze in its EU membership talks.

12 Killed, 14 Wounded in Mozambique Jihadist Attacks
[AnNahar] Twelve villagers were killed and 14 injured in an attack by suspected jihadists on a village in a gas-rich region of northern Mozambique, a local source told AFP on Friday.

Since October, the southeast African country's golden vision to exploit its gas reserves has been thrown into doubt by an kaboom of bloodthirsty assaults in the region where the industry plans to base its hub.

"Ten people killed were shot by firearms and two burnt (to death) after 55 houses were charred. A person was beheaded after being rubbed out" in the northern village of Paqueue late Thursday, said the source.

A health official in the Cabo Delgado region, who declined to be named, said that an ambulance was dispatched to Paqueue to "rescue the 14 maimed".

In a separate incident, a military convoy came under attack near the Tanzanian border north of Paqueue, killing a senior army officer, according to a police source.

"The attack occurred at night when defence and security forces routinely patrol. The attackers wore military uniforms and had large-calibre firearms," said the source who declined to be named.

Home Front: Culture Wars
Sarah Hoyt: When Every Boy is Guilty, Every Girl Becomes A Monster
h/t Instapundit
[PJMedia] ...The most proximal one, though, is the accusation against Kavanaugh, which, even if true, would not be in any way actionable nor, barring this behavior persisting into adulthood, mean anything about his character as a grown up. High School has always been a weird and psychologically unstable part of anyone's growing up years, partly because we’re all learning the ropes of what "adult" means, and partly because we’re isolated with other kids, also all learning the ropes. (It’s not the best system, no.)

But this nonsense, which by the way, not only doesn’t rise to "credible" it’s barely past the level of "inane ramblings of crazy woman on the corner" are being given credibility and Senate is bending over backward to give that crazy woman the chance to ramble at them. Any way she wants to.

Which is a symptom of deeper corruption.

...the reaction older son got. I got a phone call saying he was sexually harassing a girl. Since at 6 he didn’t know how to spell "harassment" and would be uncertain on the meaning of "sexual" (both boys were far less curious than I was at their ages) I begged leave to differ, marched down to the school like the wrath of mom and demanded proof. At which point I was given a very bad, rather innocent poem. I mean the boy didn’t even say he wanted to kiss her. Just that she was pretty and her eyes were like stars. I pointed this out. I was sarcastic. It was resolved it would be forgotten if he just kept his poems to himself. (Which, honestly, every poet should be encouraged to do, since the collapse of society starts with open mic poetry nights.)
Something similar happened to Grom Jr. At the age of 7 he was accused of kissing a girl on a cheek against her will (as it turned out - her parents came to apologize later - she realized that it was against her will when she saw him kissing another girl). Fortunately, for everybody concerned, I didn't find out about this until later. Ex-wife called her mother - who keeps a law firm on retainer for feuding with Tel Aviv city hall - and one of the associates called the district school supervisor. Eventually we had to move Grom Jr to another school where the principal wasn't so "American" (a common Israeli expression). Since then he's reasonably free of trouble.
This should have been seen as a sign of things to come, but I wasn’t aware of the insanity stalking this land. Not yet. So I assumed it was Manitou Springs, and someone had overindulged in hash brownies.

...Next came elementary school in Colorado Springs. Younger son (slower developing than his brother, and at that time completely unaware of the difference in "vive la difference.") was in third grade.

...I was at the dentist. We lived in the Old North End, the first trolley car suburb. Meaning it was about a mile and a half to downtown, four blocks North to the elementary school and four blocks south to my dentist.

I’m sitting in the waiting room. The dentist is a strict Christian, and his magazines are the cleanest sort, his clientele mostly elderly. I get a phone call. And hear words coming out of my mouth. And all the elderly women staring at me in horror, because they were rather special in that kind of words.

So I told the elderly ladies "the school is telling me they’re calling the police because my 8-year-old touched a girl."

...Now fast forward to this incident reported today in a Colorado Springs middle school (heavens, I hope it’s the same. This bad a crazy infecting more than one school would be scary.): Boy, 13, Arrested, Cuffed And Dragged From School Over #MeToo Allegations.

...And what girls are learning in our society, partly through warped women like that playground guard who decided kids’ interacting was sexual harassment when younger son was in third grade, is that all men are dangerous, evil and guilty of something. And that women accusing them of made up stuff is not only all right, and not only brings power, but it’s somehow "heroic" and gets the girl or woman praise and adulation.
It is a "Handmaid Tale", except in reverse, in schools and universities - and with #MeToo it's came out into society at large

Seventy-Five Women Voice Support for Kavanaugh
h/t Instapundit
Seventy-five women with long-standing associations with Judge Brett Kavanaugh came forward on Friday to voice their defense of the embattled Supreme Court nominee. Kavanaugh is accused of committing sexual assault while in high school 36 years ago.

Sharing intimate stories from their personal and professional lives, the women painted a portrait of Kavanaugh greatly differing from that being promoted by Democrats and the media.
IMO, the accusations are simply an act of feminazi terrorism. There is Islamic terrorism where Muzzies kill people using whatever means available. And there is feminazi terrorism using false accusations.

What she will do is stand up and name a dozen classmates as witnesses. Then what will congress do? Not let them testify? A miscarriage of justice. The mob rule and the hypocrite Feinstein have won. 'Code for no black people': New York bar's 'racist' dress code sparks online debate
[Free Republic] Rochester, N.Y., resident Herbert Smith wasn’t aware of the controversy he was about to create when he was moved to post a photo of a local bar’s dress code to his Facebook page. But since he took to social media to share the long list of items that can’t be worn inside the Murphy’s Law Irish Pub in his neighborhood, some people are calling out the bar for enforcing a "racist" dress code.

While making plans with a friend to meet up at a nearby bar, Smith received a picture of the questionable dress code posted in the front window of Murphy’s Law. He tells Yahoo Lifestyle that "it immediately struck a chord." Although he wasn’t entirely sure what to think about it, he decided to call attention to it.

"I post a lot of stuff on Facebook, so I thought a few of my friends would chime in," he says. "But what happened next I was not expecting."

Barakat has been labeled by the U.S. Treasury as one of the Lebanese terrorist group’s main financiers. He is part of the Barakat Clan, a criminal organization known for its links to Hezbollah.

Barakat was arrested in Foz de Iguazú, in southern Brazil. That triple border, or Triple Frontier as it is known as, has been linked with Hezbollah terrorist activity for decades, specifically as a source of the group’s funding.

In July, the Barakat Clan’s assets were frozen by the Financial Information Unit of Argentina. On Aug. 31, Argentine Judge Rubén Darío Riquelme ordered Barakat’s international capture. Barakat was also sought by Paraguay and Brazil.

Barakt, who was born in Leb, is also accused in Paraguay for identity fraud and for omitting information about his nationality status.
Ha’aretz adds:
Brazilian police have arrested a man designated by the U.S. Treasury Department as a high-ranking Hezbollah financier after neighboring Paraguay sought his detention on identity theft charges, authorities in Brazil said on Friday.

In 2004, U.S. authorities designated Assad Ahmad Barakat as one of Hezbollah's "most prominent and influential members." They said he had long served as a treasurer for the group and was an associate of the then-financial director of Hezbollah, a Death Eater group based in Leb.

It was not immediately known if Barakat had a lawyer.

Brazilian federal police said in a Friday written statement that the country's Supreme Court authorized his arrest after Paraguayan authorities issued a warrant late in August.

Police also said Argentine authorities accused him of laundering $10 million through a casino in the border city of Puerto Iguazu.

Barakat was previously imprisoned in Paraguay from 2002 to 2008 on charges of tax evasion. After his release, Brazilian police said, Barakat lived in Brazil, and carried out business activities in Paraguay, Argentina, and Chile.

#1  During the final years of the Stroessner regime in Paraguay (1987-88) the Paraguay consulate in Beirut sold more than 3,000 Paraguay passports to Shiite elements. The result was an explosion of Muslim immigrants who settled in the Tri-Border region. As for Barakat, he owned and operated the biggest store in Paraguay's Ciudad del Este (nee Ciudad Stroessner). Notice was finally taken of the expanding and radical Muslim population with the bombing of a Jewish center in Buenos Aires.

Israel: Russia accepts our take on Syrian downing of plane, coordination goes on
[IsraelTimes] Delegation to Moscow ’debunked’ claim Israeli jets hid behind spy plane, stressed jets had left area before Syrians fired fatal missile; Russia was notified ahead of strike

"Improvements" may be made to the Israeli military’s coordination with Russia over its operations in Syria in light of the downing of a Russian spy plane earlier this week, a senior Israeli army official said Friday. For now, he stressed, the deconfliction mechanism used by the two countries to coordinate activities was continuing to function effectively.

The official said an Israeli military delegation had answered Russia’s questions over Monday’s incident, including debunking the false notion that the Israeli jets had hidden behind the Russian plane. Israel also clarified that its attack planes had left the area before the Syrians fired the missile that downed the Russian plane.

He also said Israel notified the Russians ahead of the strike, and not a minute before as Moscow had originally claimed. The official said Israel had even played the Russians a recording of the telephone conversation between the IAF and the Russian air force base in Syria.

And he dismissed a pro-Hezbollah newspaper’s claim Friday that Russia had refused to accept Israel’s explanations over the incident, for which Israel firmly blames Syria.

On Thursday, an Israeli delegation led by Air Force chief Maj. Gen. Amikam Norkin visited Moscow in order to brief Russian officials on Israel’s initial investigation of the incident, in which a Russian reconnaissance plane, with 15 crew members on board, was shot down by Syrian air defenses following an Israeli missile strike on a Syrian weapons facility on Monday night.

Despite the IDF’s insistence on its innocence, the incident initially threatened Israel’s coordination efforts with Russia ‐ known as the deconfliction mechanism ‐ which is meant to prevent such festivities and inadvertent casualties.

However,
a person who gets all wrapped up in himself makes a mighty small package...
the bigwig, speaking on condition of anonymity
... for fear of being murdered...
, said the hotline between the Israeli and Russian militaries has continued to operate as normal, though some "improvements" may be made in the future.

For now, there are "no changes to the deconfliction mechanism," the officer said, adding "but both sides will use this opportunity to make adjustments."

According to the officer, the deconfliction mechanism was used as recently as Friday afternoon. He refused to comment on the nature of the operation that required the coordination, saying only that it was not an Arclight airstrike.

"It is of paramount importance to us that we continue to use the deconfliction mechanism, which has proven over the past two-and-a-half to three years to be effective," the officer said.

The Israeli military delegation, made up of officers from the Air Force, Military Intelligence, international cooperation unit, Operations Directorate and the General Staff, returned from Moscow on Friday morning.

Rod Rosenstein Suggested Secretly Recording Trump and Discussed 25th Amendment
[NYT] WASHINGTON ‐ The deputy attorney general, Rod J. Rosenstein, suggested last year that he secretly record President Trump in the White House to expose the chaos consuming the administration, and he discussed recruiting cabinet members to invoke the 25th Amendment to remove Mr. Trump from office for being unfit.

Mr. Rosenstein made these suggestions in the spring of 2017 when Mr. Trump’s firing of James B. Comey as F.B.I. director plunged the White House into turmoil. Over the ensuing days, the president divulged classified intelligence to Russians in the Oval Office, and revelations emerged that Mr. Trump had asked Mr. Comey to pledge loyalty and end an investigation into a senior aide.

Mr. Rosenstein was just two weeks into his job. He had begun overseeing the Russia investigation and played a key role in the president’s dismissal of Mr. Comey by writing a memo critical of his handling of the Hillary Clinton email investigation. But Mr. Rosenstein was caught off guard when Mr. Trump cited the memo in the firing, and he began telling people that he feared he had been used.

Mr. Rosenstein made the remarks about secretly recording Mr. Trump and about the 25th Amendment in meetings and conversations with other Justice Department and F.B.I. officials. Several people described the episodes, insisting on anonymity to discuss internal deliberations. The people were briefed either on the events themselves or on memos written by F.B.I. officials, including Andrew G. McCabe, then the acting bureau director, that documented Mr. Rosenstein’s actions and comments.

Idlib: FSA big turban kaboomed, 4th day of Syrian army shelling jihadis, Syrian army spy makes another video, Russia deal not final step

Russia-Turkey deal on Idlib only ‘intermediate step’ – Lavrov

[AlMasdar] Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated that creation of the demilitarised zone in Syria’s Idlib will prevent the shelling of Syrian troops and the Russian Hmeymim military base, speaking at in Sarajevo on Friday after talks with his Bosnian counterpart Igor Crnadak.

Lavrov said the agreement on the de-escalation zone between Moscow and Ankara is an just “an intermediate step”, adding that by mid-October all heavy weaponry and the Jabhat al-Nusra militants should be moved out of the area.

Rebel military commander assassinated in northeast Idlib

[AlMasdar] (4:20 P.M.) – A military commander from the Free Syrian Army (FSA) was recently assassinated inside a key city in the Idlib Governorate.

According to opposition activists in the Idlib Governorate, the military commander of the Al-Sadiq Brigade of the Al-Sham Regiment, Yousef Houran, was assassinated on Friday after his vehicle struck an improvised explosive device (IED) along a road in Saraqib city.

Opposition activists have blamed Syrian Arab Army (SAA) spies for the assassination of Houran in Saraqib today.

Houran is the first military commander of the Free Syrian Army to be killed in the Idlib Governorate since the Turkish-Russian agreement was established inside the province.

There could be an influx of assassinations in the coming weeks, as the recent string of executions by the jihadist rebels in the Idlib Governorate could prompt responses by the groups targeted.

Syrian Army launches heavy attack along Idlib-Hama axis

[AlMasdar] 2018-09-21 (6:20 P.M.) – For the fourth day in a row, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) has launched a powerful attack along the Idlib-Hama axis in northwest Syria.

Led by their artillery units, the Syrian Arab Army unleashed a flurry of missiles and artillery shells towards the jihadist defenses, hitting a number of trenches and hideouts used by Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham
and Jaish al-Izza.

According to a military source in Hama city, the Syrian Arab Army heavily targeted the rebel-held towns of Kafr Zita, Al-Lataminah, Zakat, Aleywi, Sukeek, Taman’ah, Umm Khalakheel, and Khuwayn.

The Syrian Arab Army intensified their strikes this afternoon, following a number of attacks by the jihadist rebels on the government-held towns of northern Hama.

Despite the recent Turkish-Russian agreement in the Idlib Governorate, the Syrian Arab Army and the jihadist rebels have yet to stop the hostilities in the region.

However, no buffer zone has been implemented as of yet in the Idlib Governorate; once it is established, the hostilities will likely dissipate.

Syrian Army spy films from pro-Turkey rally in Khan Sheikhoun (video)

[AlMasdar] 2018-09-22 (12:25 A.M.) – A Syrian Arab Army (SAA) recently filmed from inside the key town of Khan Sheikhoun, which was the site of a pro-opposition and Turkey rally.

The Syrian Army spy showed the the small rally that was held inside this Idlib Governorate town recently; however, the exact location inside of Khan Sheikhoun could not be identified.

As shown in the short video below, the Syrian Army spy is moving freely through the town and filming the crowd:

Khan Sheikhoun was the site of the alleged chemical weapons attack that took place on April 4th, 2017.

The Syrian government was blamed for the attack by the United States and their allies; they would later attack the Shayrat Airbase in Homs in response.

Syria fired missiles for 40 minutes after Israeli strike, hitting Russian plane
[IsraelTimes] Israeli army report finds massive uptick in Syrian anti-aircraft barrages during IDF attacks, in hopes of repeating the downing of an IAF F-16 in February

The Israeli report into the downing a Russian plane off the coast of Syria during an Israeli Arclight airstrike on Monday runs some 40 pages in English and Russian and shows that Syrian anti-aircraft batteries fired dozens of barrages indiscriminately for 40 minutes after the initial Israeli attack.

In a highly unusual move, the IDF acknowledged the airstrike and released some of the findings of its initial investigation, which concluded that Syrian air defense units fired without aiming and "did not bother to ensure that no Russian planes were in the air."

#2  ...During Operation LINEBACKER II in 1972, the USAF started off taking losses - but by the end, they had gotten their ECM and AAA suppression to the point where the North Vietnamese were simply salvoing missiles into the air blind (no tracking or lock) in the desperate hope that they'd hit something. All they did, of course, was blow through priceless missiles that couldn't be replaced as fast as they were shooting them.

Looks like Assad's people are to that point.

Syrian Army wipes out jihadist rocket site in northern Latakia (video)
[AlMasdar] The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) wiped out an entire jihadist rocket launching site in the northern countryside of the Latakia Governorate this week.

According to the Sputnik News Agency, the rocket launching site was also used by the jihadist rebels to deploy attack drones on the Hmeymim Military Airport in the southwestern countryside of the Latakia Governorate.

These attack drones have been a source of agitation for the Russian military, who view these constant attacks as a risk to the safety of their personnel in Syria.

The Russian military has repeatedly called on the Ottoman Turkish forces to restrict these jihadist rebels from launching attacks on the Hmeymim Airbase, but it has been to no avail.

In response to these constant attacks, the Syrian Arab Army has been building up their forces in the northeastern countryside of Latakia in preparation for a new offensive to clear this region once and for all.

However,
alcohol has never solved anybody's problems. But then, neither has milk...
this offensive could be in jeopardy if the Ottoman Turkish and Russian forces agree to establish a buffer zone in the area.

Led by their 3rd Corps and 10th Division, the Syrian Arab Army stormed the Islamic State’s positions in the al-Safa region from two different axes in a bid to overwhelm the terrorist forces.

According to a military source in Sweida city, the Syrian Arab Army and their allies from the National Defense Forces (NDF) managed to liberate new points in the al-Safa region on Friday, forcing the Islamic State holy warriors to fall further back.

The source said that the Syrian Arab Army and their allies also killed at least ten Islamic State turbans and destroyed a field artillery gun and two technical vehicles.

Despite this advance by the Syrian Arab Army, the Islamic State maintains control over several parts of the al-Safa region, including the highest point that overlooks the government’s positions.

White House Authorizes “Offensive Operations” As Part of New Cyber Security Strategy
More on this story from yesterday, this time not from a Russian perspective.
[TheAviationist] The Trump administration has authorized the use of “offensive cyber operations” as part of a new national cyber strategy that aims at deterring attacks on the U.S. most critical networks, preventing interferences on future elections (in order to avoid a 2016 DNC hack) and face a wide array of intrusions, ranging from criminal activity to cyber espionage.

According to national security adviser John Bolton, the new policy will ease the rules on the use of cyber weapons to protect the nation and includes a new classified presidential directive that replaced one from the Obama administration.

According to the Washington Post, “In general, the president’s directive — called National Security Presidential Memorandum 13, or NSPM 13 — frees the military to engage, without a lengthy approval process, in actions that fall below the “use of force” or a level that would cause death, destruction or significant economic impacts, said individuals familiar with the policy who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss nonpublic information.”

RAF fighter jets intercept Russian Blackjacks bombers
[Defence-blog] The Royal Air Force (RAF), the United Kingdom’s aerial warfare force, has announced that Typhoon fighter jets from Lossiemouth were scrambled to intercept two Russian Long Range Blackjack bombers and escort them whilst in the UK area of interest.

Aleppo: Syrian army fights Turkish proxy FSA in east and jihadis in southwest

Intense clashes break out between Syrian Army and Turkish-backed forces in east Aleppo

[AlMasdar] (10:00 P.M.) – Intense clashes broke-out between the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and Turkish-backed rebels in east Aleppo this evening after a relatively quiet few months.

According to a military source in Damascus, the intense clashes broke out after the Syrian Arab Army fired a couple of mortar shells towards the Free Syrian Army’s (FSA) positions at Al-Bab in east Aleppo.

In response, the Turkish-backed rebels fired several missiles towards the Syrian Arab Army’s positions in the nearby town of Tadef, which is just south of Al-Bab.

A flurry of gunfire was then exchanged between the Syrian Arab Army and Turkish-backed rebels near the Al-Bab-Tadef axis, resulting in a fierce engagement this evening.

The clashes are still ongoing at this time; however, the total number of casualties for either party is still unknown.

This is the first major confrontation between the Syrian Arab Army and Turkish-backed rebels at the Al-Bab axis in nearly a year.

Jihadist rebels attack important southwest Aleppo district

[AlMasdar] 2018-09-22 (12:40 A.M.) – The jihadist rebels launched a powerful attack on southwest Aleppo this evening, targeting a number of neighborhoods under the control of the government.

According to a military source inside the provincial capital, the jihadist rebels in the Rashiddeen 4 area launched several ground-to-ground missiles at the Al-Hamdaniyah District, causing several explosions throughout the residential neighborhoods.

As a result of this attack, a dozen civilians were injured and taken to a local field hospital for medical care.

The Syrian Arab Army has now responded with an attack of their own, targeting the Rashideen 4 area that is controlled by the jihadist rebels.

Tonight’s attack by the jihadist rebels on Al-Hamdaniyah marks the first major confrontation in southwest Aleppo this month.

DoD Agency Identifies Soldiers Lost in Korean War From Returned Remains
[DoD] Two soldiers who died during the Korean War have been identified from the remains returned from North Korea, President Donald J. Trump announced last night.

Personnel at the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency identified Army Master Sgt. Charles H. McDaniel and Army Pfc. William H. Jones. Their remains were repatriated from North Korea following Trump’s summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

Both men died in North Korea in 1950.

DoD officials expect many more identifications from the remains. “The 55 boxes we don’t necessarily attribute to 55 remains,” DPAA Director Kelly K. McKeague told the Defense Writers Group here yesterday. “The remains are comingled, … and we expect there to be more than 55.”

He noted that 208 boxes of remains turned over to the United States from North Korea in the late 1990s turned out to contain more than 400 U.S. service members.

One Palestinian said killed, 312 wounded, in Gaza border protests
[IsraelTimes] Soldier lightly maimed by shrapnel from bomb; arson balloons and kites cause seven blazes inside Israel; IAF carries out several strikes on balloon launchers

One Paleostinian was reported killed and at least 312 were maimed as some 10,000 Paleostinians protested on the Gazoo Strip border on Friday, with some throwing bombs and rocks and burning tires, as soldiers responded with tear gas and occasional live fire.

One Israeli soldier was lightly injured by shrapnel from a pipe bomb thrown at troops, the army said, adding that it spotted a number of infiltration attempts.

The Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth",-run health ministry in Gazoo said that a 25-year-old was shot and killed at one of the protests. Fifty-four others were hurt by live fire, the ministry said.

It identified the dead man as Kareem Mohammad Kolab.

"IDF troops are responding with riot dispersal means and are firing in accordance with standard operating procedures," the army said.

Paleostinians also sent fire balloons and kites into Israel, causing at least seven blazes along the border. Paleostinian sources said an IDF aircraft fired at a group launching incendiary devices. The IDF confirmed several strikes in northern Gazoo but gave no further details.

Firefighters were still battling four blazes, a spokesperson said on Friday evening.

There are the alien green “children of Woolpit”, who appeared in 12th-century Suffolk and were reported to have spoken a language no one could understand. There’s also the story of Eilmer the 11th-century monk, who constructed a pair of wings and flew from the top of Malmesbury Abbey. And there’s the Voynich Manuscript, a 15th-century book written in an unknowable script, full of illustrations of otherworldly plants and surreal landscapes.

These are just some of the science fictions to be discovered within the literatures and cultures of the Middle Ages. There are also tales to be found of robots entertaining royal courts, communities speculating about utopian or dystopian futures, and literary maps measuring and exploring the outer reaches of time and space.

The influence of the genre we call “fantasy”, which often looks back to the medieval past in order to escape a techno-scientific future, means that the Middle Ages have rarely been associated with science fiction. But, as we have found, peering into the complex history of the genre, while also examining the scientific achievements of the medieval period, reveals that things are not quite what they seem.

Senior U.N. Official Fired, Referred To Criminal Authorities For Alleged Sexual Misconduct
Hattip Bright Pebbles.
[Newsweek] Ravi Karkara, a United Nations senior adviser accused of sexual misconduct against younger male subordinates, was fired from his role at the U.N. Entity for Gender Equality Monday, after nearly 15 months of investigation.

“The investigative and disciplinary processes into allegations involving a U.N. Women staff member

have concluded that sexual misconduct occurred,” Phumzile Mlambo-Ngucka, executive director of U.N. Women, said in a statement Monday. “As a result, I have dismissed the staff member; this is the strongest disciplinary measure available… the staff member is prohibited from employment at the U.N.”

#5  Good link I found.

I find it fascinating that Bright Pebble’s link insists that the perpetrators are exclusively white men, when we have seen reports here at Rantburg that among those succoring the current invasion of Europe are female aid workers reportedly quite as predatory as the men. This suggests that the profession of philanthropy is an equal opportunity one for predators.

#6  I think we see the most vile predatory behaviour when two sociopaths pair up in a "marriage".

In the UK fred & rose west, and myra hindley & Ian brady.

Ravi was not a white heterosexual. But he was of the UN "preisthood".

a security source said on Thursday.

Speaking to Baghdad Today website, the source said "unidentified button men went kaboom! an electricity transmission tower in a village in Hawija town, southwest of Kirkuk."

The attack, according to the source, "is the 21st of its kind."

Aberdeen Maryland Rite Aid Shooter Self Identified as trans male
[DailyCaller] A friend of the woman who killed three people in a mass shooting in Maryland Thursday revealed that she identified as a transgender male.

Authorities identified the shooter who killed three people and wounded two others at a Rite Aid distribution center in Aberdeen as a 26-year-old woman named Snochia Moseley. While both the police and court documents identified Moseley, who worked at the distribution center, as biologically female, Troi Coley, a high school friend of the shooter, revealed that she identified as transgender in as early as 2016.

#2  So we're doing Operation Barbarossa Part II: Only We Make It To Moscow This Time?

#4  Putin respects power. You have to deal with him from a position of strength.

Peter Zeihan wrote a book that has a section about a possible conflict with Russia in the Baltic. He wrote an intriguing book called “The Absent Superpower: the Shale Revolution and a World without America.” A read worth the time.

#5  Putin wants a new Russia like the old USSR’s grandeur. Only he has some issues to deal with.
*an economy the size of Italy.
*a collapsing demographic.
*China looking at Siberia.
*Institutions are corrupt.

Putin could win the battle while his country collapses.

All he has in his toolkit are nuclear weapons. So he in some ways is acting like Iran and North Korea.

I think President Trump must have read Peter’s Book.
