'At least 27 people killed' at a Texas church
[Daily Mail, Where America Gets Its News] At least 27 people have been killed inside a Texas church - including a two-year-old child - after a gunman dressed in full combat gear opened fire during the morning service before cops shot him dead.
No word if it's a nut or an Islamist. Since it's a church, I'm leaning toward nut.
The shooting happened at the First Baptist Church of Sutherland Springs, where around 50 people usually attend service, according to local reports.

Wilson County Commissioner Albert Gamez Jr told CNN that at least 27 people have been killed in the shooting, but the corpse count is expected to climb.

'My heart is broken,' Gamez said. 'We never think where it can happen, and it does happen. It doesn't matter where you're at. In a small community, real quiet and everything, and look at this, what can happen.'

At least 24 others were maimed in the horrific shooting. Witnesses said a man 'in full gear' walked inside the church and opened fire just before 11.30am.

regardless, a Special and General courts martial conviction makes it a federal felony. Thus one convicted in such a court is a felon and not eligible to own guns. It's that felony thingy that the feds in Chicago are using to prosecute gun crimes there.

Today's mass shooting in Sutherland Springs, Texas, was only halted after an armed Texan "engaged" the killer and put an end to the rampage, the Texas Rangers reported.

Freeman Martin, a major in the Texas Rangers and a spokesman for the Texas Department of Public Safety, says the suspect dropped his rifle and fled after being confronted by a local man who had grabbed his rifle.

Freeman provided a timeline of the tragedy in a press briefing Sunday evening.

"At approximately 11:20 this morning a suspect was seen at a Valero gas station in Sutherland Springs, Texas," Martin said. "He was dressed in all black. That suspect crossed the street to the church, exited his vehicle and began firing at the church."

"That suspect then moved to the right side of the church and then continued to fire," he continued. "That suspect entered the church and continued to fire. As he exited the church, a local resident grabbed his rifle and engaged that suspect. The suspect dropped his rifle, which was a Ruger AR assault-type rifle and fled from the church."

"Our local citizen pursued the suspect at that time," Freeman went on. "A short time later as law enforcement responded that suspect right at the Wilson/Guadalupe County line crashed out and was found deceased in his vehicle. At this time we don’t know if it was a self-inflicted gunshot wound or if he was shot by the local resident. We know he’s deceased in the vehicle. "

The suspected killer is being reported as Devin Patrick Kelley. However, Freeman would reported, "The suspect has not been completely identified. We believe he’s a young white male, maybe in his early 20s. He was dressed in all black, tactical type gear and was wearing a ballistic vest."

It also called on Bahrainis not to travel to this country.

The call came a day after Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri announced his resignation.

The Bahraini foreign ministry said in a statement received by AFP that its call was "in the interest of its citizens’ safety and to avoid any risks they may be exposed due to the conditions and developments” that Lebanon is going through.

A new paper in the American Economic Journal: Economic Policy by Bisschop, Kastoryano, and van der Klaauw looks at the opening and closing of prostitution zones (tippelzones) in 25 Dutch cities.

Our empirical results show that opening a tippelzone reduces sexual abuse and rape. These results are mainly driven by a 30‐40 percent reduction in the first two years after opening the tippelzone. For tippelzones with a licensing system, we additionally find long-term decreases in sexual assaults and a 25 percent decrease in drug-related crime, which persists in the medium to long run.

Cunningham and Shah studied decriminalization of indoor prostitution in Rhode Island and found very similar results.

We exploit the fact that a Rhode Island District Court judge unexpectedly decriminalized indoor prostitution in 2003 to provide the first causal estimates of the impact of decriminalization on the composition of the sex market, rape offenses, and sexually transmitted infection outcomes. Not surprisingly, we find that decriminalization increased the size of the indoor market. However, we also find that decriminalization caused both forcible rape offenses and gonorrhea incidence to decline for the overall population. Our synthetic control model finds 824 fewer reported rape offenses (31 percent decrease) and 1,035 fewer cases of female gonorrhea (39 percent decrease) from 2004 to 2009.

[Johnathan Turley] This week we have been discussing Attorney General Eric Holder’s recent speech at Northwestern University Law School detailing the claim of President Barack Obama that he has the right to kill American citizens based on his inherent authority and the ongoing war on terror. I previously wrote a blog and a column on the issue. Those pieces noted that Holder limited his remarks by referring to targeted killing "abroad." However, I noted that the Administration’s past references to this power are not so limited. Indeed, the only limits stated by the Administration have been self-imposed standards and what Holder calls "due process" ‐ expressly excluding "judicial process." Now, FBI Director Robert Mueller has entered the fray. On Wednesday Mueller was asked in a congressional hearing whether the current policy would allow the killing of citizens in the United States. Mueller said that he simply did not know whether he could order such an assassination. It was the perfect moment to capture the dangerous ambiguity introduced into our system by this claim of inherent authority. I can understand Mueller deferring to the Attorney General on the meaning of his remarks, but the question was whether Mueller understands that the same power exists within the United States. One would hope that the FBI Director would have a handle on a few details guiding his responsibilities, including whether he can kill citizens without a charge or court order.

Mr. Mueller should be reminded about an excerpt from our Declaration of Independence:

Millennials would rather live in socialist or communist nation than under capitalism: Poll
[Wash Times] A majority of millennials would prefer to live in a socialist, communist or fascist nation rather than a capitalistic one, according to a new poll.

In the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation’s "Annual Report on US Attitudes toward Socialism," 58 percent of the up-and-coming generation opted for one of the three systems, compared to 42 percent who said they were in favor of capitalism.

The most popular socioeconomic order was socialism with 44 percent support. Communism and fascism received 7 percent support each.

Marion Smith, executive director of the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation, said the report shows millennials are "increasingly turning away from capitalism and toward socialism and even communism as a viable alternative."

"This troubling turn highlights widespread historical illiteracy in American society regarding socialism and the systemic failure of our education system to teach students about the genocide, destruction, and misery caused by communism since the Bolshevik Revolution one hundred years ago," Mr. Smith said in a statement.

The SDF is attacking IS on the eastern bank of the Euphrates which cuts across the province, while Russian-backed Syrian forces are battling the jihadists on the western bank of the river.

The parallel offensives have sent thousands of civilians fleeing for their lives, some straight into the desert.

Sonia Khush, Syria director at the Save the Children charity, said an estimated 350,000 people have fled the recent fighting in Deir Ezzor province, half of them children.

"The situation in the city, and surrounding countryside, has been especially bleak with civilians trapped between the fighting and all too often caught in the crossfire," she said

The Euphrates Valley border area was the heart of the "caliphate" IS proclaimed in 2014 and is now its last redoubt, where a US-led coalition supporting the military effort said around 1,500 jihadist fighters remained.

Despite being driven out from large parts of Deir Ezzor, IS still controls 37 percent of the province and its fighters are deployed in the eastern side.

Hakimi further added that the budget will comprise around 20.3 billion Afghanis from the domestic income while another 20.7 billion Afghanis will come from the foreig sources.

The Office of the President said the meeting participants had an in-depth discussio regardin the budget and approved in principle.

The statement by ARG Palace further added that the ministry of finance was given necessary instructions regarding the budget for the 1397 by bringing some amendments and represent it to the next meeting of the cabinet.

Pakistan returns helicopters given by US to monitor Durand Line
[Khaama] Pakistain has returned nine helicopters provided by the United States to monitor the Durand Line, it has been reported.

According to the local media reports, the helicopters were given to Pakistain in 2002 and were used by the ministry of interior of Pakistain.

Senior Taliban commanders among several killed in Kunduz and Faryab
[Khaama] Several Talibs were killed or maimed in the latest counter-terrorism operations of the Afghan national defense and security forces in the northern parts of the country.

According to the Afghan military, the operations were conducted in the past 24 hours in the vicinity of Kunduz and Faryab provinces.

A statement by Shaheen Corps said at least six Taliban murderous Moslems were killed during the operations in Esa Khel village located in Chahar Dara district of Kunduz.

At least thirteen Taliban murderous Moslems were also maimed during the operations and ten different types of landmines were confiscated during the operations, Shaheen Corps added.

In the meantime, Shaheen Corps of the Afghan army said at least eight Taliban murderous Moslems were killed and twelve others were maimed during the Arclight airstrikes in northern Faryab province.

The Arclight airstrikes were conduted in Sherin Islam Qalam, Zaqoom, and Tapa-e-Qeshlaq vilages located in Khwajah Sabs Posh and Sherin Tagab districts, the statement said.

According to the Doha-based media network, the Association of Parents of Disappeared Persons (APDP), a human rights group in Kashmire, told the commission there were 3,844 unmarked graves ‐ 2,717 in Poonch and 1,127 in Rajouri ‐ along the contentious Line of Control (LoC) dividing the disputed territory between Pakistain and India.

The commission acknowledged the presence of the 2,080 unmarked graves, Al Jazeera reported, asking the government for a comprehensive investigation to be completed in six months, including DNA tests of the bodies to compare it with family members of the disappeared.

According to APDP, 8,000 people have disappeared in the decades-old conflict between the two neighbouring countries. The association accused government forces of staging shootouts to cover up killings, said the Al Jazeera report.

"We have been demanding that there be an independent commission to do a credible probe on the mass graves," Khurram Parvez from APDP told Al Jazeera. "We have done a study of 53 cases for a report where the bodies were exhumed from unknown graves. It was found that 49 bodies in the graves were of civilians and one was a local bad boy, three bodies were unknown. These people were dubbed as foreign Lions of Islam by the government."

In 2011, the Jammu Kashmire State Human Rights Commission had confirmed that thousands of bullet-riddled bodies had been dumped in unmarked graves ‐ many of them mass graves ‐ in India-held Kashmire.

The findings had revealed that of the more than 2,000 bodies found, at least 574 were local residents.

Al Jazeera's report, quoting the APDP, said that since 2011, the Indian government has failed to comply with directions from the human rights commission and instead, continues to avoid an investigation on the pretext it would lead to a "law and order problem" in Kashmire.

Similarly in 2008, human rights group International People's Tribunal on Human Rights and Justice had found unmarked graves containing several thousand bodies during a three-year survey of dozens of villages in India-held Kashmire. At the time, the group had calculated that 8,000 people had gone missing in the 20-year separatist insurgency.

[Dawn] INSTEAD of fading away into oblivion, the Council of Islamic Ideology has been restored to full strength after remaining non-functional for almost a year following the retirement of its former chairman Maulana Sheerani. On Friday, it acquired 11 new members, of whom Dr Qibla Ayaz was appointed chairman. The CCI is a statutory body with a minimum of eight and maximum of 20 members, including one woman, whose function is to supposedly ’advise’ parliament on whether laws are in consonance with Islamic injunctions. That in itself makes it a superfluous body, given that the legislature is bound by the Constitution to make laws that are not contrary to the Koran and Sunnah. Moreover, objections to legislation on religious grounds can be referred to the judiciary as a check and balance.

A body like the CII has no place in a democracy because it serves as a platform for unelected regressive elements to influence decisions made by parliament. Misinformation and arguments based on flawed reasoning, if cloaked in the garb of religion, can hobble attempts at progressive legislation. Right-wing parties in parliament have time and again used statements by the CII to derail, delay or, at the very least, water down laws meant to empower and protect women. During Maulana Sheerani’s years as chairman, the CII was inordinately fixated on issues pertaining to women and marriage ‐ and in the process spurned both logic and modern technology. To cite but two pronouncements, the body denounced a minimum age for marriage as un-Islamic and rejected the use of DNA as primary evidence in rape cases. Unfortunately, politicians themselves, even those from ostensibly progressive parties, have by their actions magnified the role of the CII in lawmaking by regularly seeking its input on social issues, especially in the context of women’s rights. One may well ask why they do not do so in other areas such as the economy, given that an understanding of the subject is among the criteria for nomination to the CII.

In a statement issued Saturday on Facebook, the TRB said Jafara and Wershiffana are kidnapped by a group of criminals, adding that the residents in those areas know the gathering places and camps of the criminals and outlaws, which are kilometers away from the houses of the Wershiffana High Council of Tribes' officials.

"If the brigades in Jafara have such a power that can thwart any attacks coming from outside Wershiffana, why then they did not use it to secure the district and the residents from the outlaws and gangs." The statement reads.

"We wonder why those forces did not use their power to secure banks, projects, stolen factories, residents' properties and why they did not arm - since they have so many weapons - the police and army that have about 3000 personnel each." The statement goes on.

It also explained that Wershiffana district is kidnapped by some of its residents, who are hosting criminals wrecking havoc in the area such as those "advocates of popular front for liberating Libya" and those who dream of the return of dictatorship.

"We are going to join the operation in Wershiffana to prevail security so that police and other security apparatuses return to work inside the district, open banks and protect the roads between Tripoli and western mountain as well as al-Zawiya from bandidos. Securing Tripoli needs the security of the areas around it and thus thwart any threats posed to the capital." TRB concluded.

The police and civil defense imposed a security cordon around the location of the falling fragments of the interceptor missile. Shrapnel was seen in the parking lot.

Colonel al-Maliki said that the rocket was aimed at the capital of Riyadh and was launched indiscriminately and absurdly to target the civilian and populated areas, where it was intercepted and the fragments fell in an uninhabited area east of King Khalid International Airport.

There were no injuries thankfully to anyone, he said.

46 SoCal businesses hit by smash and grabs
17 in one night, Tuesday early morning in Monrovia.
[MonroviaNow] Authorities are investigating whether a string of 46 smash-and-grab burglaries across Southern California are linked, including 16 that took place at small businesses in the San Gabriel Valley early Thursday morning.

Six such incidents were reported overnight across San Dimas, another six in Azusa, four in Monrovia and one in Glendora, according to officials with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department and local police. Two burglaries are Duarte were no longer believed to be linked, authorities later said.

Most the locations were small restaurants and food spots, though two liquor stores and a beauty supply shop were also hit.

Planned Parenthood Gave Politicians More Funds in Single Year Than NRA Did in Entire Decade
The Federalist co-founder Sean Davis made a Washington Post article playing up the NRA’s donations to members of Congress look pretty silly with one simple tweet in early October.

The Post’s story detailed where roughly $3.6 million in NRA political donations have gone in the past few decades. However, Davis pointed out that Planned Parenthood’s political donations from last year alone absolutely dwarf that number.

“Reporter uses basic division on above tweet and you won’t believe what happens next,” Twitchy posted on Tuesday, calling out the article for being a bit overwrought.

“Since 1998, the NRA has donated $3,555,194 to current members of Congress,” The Post contributor Kyle Griffin tweeted, with a link to the story. “Find out here who has received donations.”

Davis replied: “A whopping $190,000/year spread out across 400+ races, huh? Planned Parenthood spent $38 million just last year.”

It said the teenager was detained two days before he was due to depart for Syria and had given up information on other Australian fighters, and supporters and financiers of the murderous Moslem group.

The ISF claimed the Australian man was linked to an Isis co-ordinator in a neighbouring country.

The teenager will face a local court at a future date, the statement said.

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade confirmed it was providing consular assistance to an Australian man detained in Leb, but would not provide further comment.

Turkish Police Officer Killed, 9 Wounded in PKK Clash
[AnNahar] One Ottoman Turkish police officer was killed and nine others were maimed on Friday in a raid to capture a suspected Kurdish bully boy in the southeastern province of Diyarbakir, the governor's office said.

The officers launched the operation to arrest a member of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) in the district of Kayapinar west of Diyarbakir city centre, it said in a statement.

When they entered the building, festivities broke out during which a hand grenade exploded and 10 officers were maimed. One later died after being taken to hospital.

Local resident Zahide Kilinc said she woke up to the sounds of gunfire around 6:00 am (0300 GMT) and saw officers open fire on a flat nearby.

"Of course we were scared, the children were scared. It was like there was an attack on our home and not the opposite flat," she told AFP.

The governor's office said a member of the PKK was also killed during the festivities.

Six soldiers and two military security guards were killed on Thursday in festivities with the PKK in the province of Hakkari which borders Iraq.

The interior ministry said on Thursday its security forces killed 46 members of the "separatist terror organization" -- Turkey's official term for the PKK -- in Sirnak and Hakkari in the southeast and Tunceli in the east, state-run news agency

Rif Dimashq (Syria News) Informed sources revealed that the Syrian regime forces and allied militias imposed a siege on areas and recaptured other areas from the rebels, in western Ghouta, in Rif Dimashq Province, Qasioun News reported.

The sources informed that the army forces managed to recapture the areas of Dalafa, Qors al-Naql Hill and al-Harra Hill, located in northern Hodar town, in Western Ghouta, in Rif Dimashq, after violent battles between with the Syrian rebels, amid an artillery shelling carried out by the Syrian regime forces and Israeli occupation forces.

Furthermore, the Syrian regime accused the Syrian opposition of cooperating with the Israeli occupation forces, while the Israeli occupation spokesman, Avighay Adaraee, said that they are not joining any side in the conflict taking place in Syria.

It is noteworthy that Syrian opposition forces managed to break the siege imposed by the Syrian regime on the villages and towns of Western Ghouta area, in Rif Dimashq Province, following an extensive offensive.

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky) assaulted on his property by retired osteopath (Guess-Ky)
A Bowling Green man was arrested Friday and charged with fourth-degree assault after an incident at the Bowling Green home of U.S. Sen. Rand Paul.

Rene Boucher, 59, is in the Warren County Regional Jail in lieu of a $5,000 bond, according to online jail records available Saturday afternoon.

Paul suffered minor injuries, according to a news release from Kentucky State Police Post 3 in Bowling Green.

Paul told police the suspect tackled him from behind & forced him to the ground. Sen. Paul is also a currently licensed MD in Kentucky. The suspect, Rene A. Boucher, D.O. is listed as an "inactive physician", "retired" with KY license having expired 2/28/2015. Other sources indicate Boucher's specialty had been anesthesiologist / pain management.

The freed detainee asked authorities not to release his or her identity, but the foreign ministry front man said that he or she had been released on October 22.

Breul noted that nine other German citizens are still in jug in Turkey. The only detainees who have been named are Die Welt newspaper correspondent Deniz Yucel and journalist Mesale Tolu.

Organized crime fingered for army post attack near Jufra
Tunis, 4 November 2017:

One soldier was killed and at least four wounded in an attack on an army post on the road between Brak Al-Shatti and Jufra last night. Some reports say two died members of 12th Brigade and the Central Region Deterrence Force died and six wounded.

Other members of the brigade counter-attacked and it is believed that there were casualties among the attackers but numbers are unknown. It is also not known who they were. It is thought, however, that they were not members of the so-called Islamic State but rather fuel and people smugglers whose activities have been curtailed by the brigade and the Deterrence Force.

Both of the latter are led by Major-General Mohamed Ben Nayel.

Last May, 141 people, 86 of them members of the 12th Brigade, died when militants attacked the airbase at Brak Al-Shatti. The Benghazi Defence Brigades, the 13th Mechanised Battalion (formerly the Third Force) and men under southern Islamist commander Ahmed Abduljalil Al-Hasnawi have been held responsible although the 13th Battalion has denied any involvement.

After 12 years it's a little late for his accuser to gain anything from her little Facebook post. There will be no DNA or any other evidence that could possibly be admitted in court. The statute of limitations has most likely already passed. The police say that anyone who is raped should present themselves to an emergency room before even taking a shower so that evidence can be gathered. After 12 years that's no longer an option. If I was on Rattner's jury I just might vote in his favor even if he is guilty. Not all of these victims who are coming out of the woodwork are credible.

Five children were killed by Houthis and pro-Saleh forces on Thursday, in an attack targeting a residential neighborhood in Yemen’s Taiz governorate.

The German Press Agency (DPA) quoted medical sources as saying that five children were killed and three injured in a shelling by pro-Saleh and Houthi militias.

The Yemeni Coalition for Monitoring Human Rights Violations denounced the heinous massacre, stressing in a statement that it is closely monitoring all violations committed by the militias, documenting them and unveiling them to public opinion in the Arab world and the West.

The coalition demanded that the international community, the UN and local and international organizations decry the crimes committed by the insurgents against Yemen’s children and halt the massacres taking place against unarmed civilians under the watchful eyes of everyone.

Such crimes are added to the huge violations committed by the insurgents amid the international community’s silence, knowing that these acts come in contravention of the international humanitarian law and international human rights law, the coalition said.

In Nihm, more than fifty people were killed and dozens injured while many fled to the capital after fierce clashes.

The Yemeni National Army’s progress coincided with intense military operations led by the coalition supporting legitimacy in Yemen.

Battlefield sources saw that the military operations in Nihm bring hope to the YNA and citizens in Sana’a.

Military sources affirmed the national army’s ongoing offensive on insurgent locations stretching over 30 kilometers.

Back in Taiz, YNA continued its operation in the west of the city, while maintaining its presence in the locations it seized in the past three days.

The insurgents on the other hand were desperate to regain control of the locations they had lost in the western front.

6 die in IED attack in Mosul

Mosul (IraqiNews.com) Three children and three policemen were killed as explosive devices went off in northwest of Mosul, a security sources said on Saturday.

“A bomb from Islamic State’s remnants exploded in al-Qubba village, northwest of Mosul, the source from Nineveh told Alghad Press. “The blast left three children, including two siblings, killed.”

The bomb, according to the source, exploded while the children were playing in a garden.

In related news, a source told BasNews that “local police found bodies of two police conscripts, one of whom was lieutenant general, near the Federal Police headquarters in Badush town. They were shot in the head and chest.”

In the same town, a bomb exploded targeting Federal Police, which left three personnel killed and fourth wounded.

Troops conducted investigations on the bomb blast, however, refused to investigate the issue of the two bodies found in the same town.

8 Iranian soldiers killed fighting guerrillas in Azerbaijan
TEHRAN: Eight Iranian soldiers were killed in clashes with “terrorist groups” on the border with Turkey on Friday, the official IRNA news agency reported.

“This afternoon, during clashes between border guards and terrorist groups, the latter suffered several losses but unfortunately eight members of the security forces were martyred,” the agency quoted Alireza Radfar, a deputy governor in West Azerbaijan province, as saying.

Friday’s clashes took place in Chaldoran county bordering Turkey. On Oct. 26, the authorities also announced the death of four “terrorists” in the county.

Chaldoran in Iran’s far northwest is mainly populated by Kurds and Turkish-speaking minority Azeris.

Security forces in Iran often clash with separatists or terrorist groups along the country’s western borders with Turkey and Iraq.

Since a double attack in the capital Tehran in June claimed by Daesh, official media regularly report the dismantling of cells reported to be planning attacks on Iranian territory.

Anbar (IraqiNews.com) Iraqi army commander was killed, while four others were wounded in a bomb blast in west of Anbar, a military source said.

Speaking to AlSumaria News on Saturday, the source said “a bomb from Islamic State’s war remnants exploded targeting a military vehicle boarded by Col. Maher Tawfiq, telecommunications commander of the seventh division, and some of his guards on the road between Qaim town and phosphate factory.”

The Islamic Center of Passaic County says it has gotten eight telephone threats to burn the center down and kill its occupants, prompting extra police patrols in the area.

NorthJersey.com quotes Paterson Police Director Jerry Speziale as saying the Omar Mosque, where suspect Sayfullo Saipov is reported to have prayed, also received threats. Officials there did not respond to a request for comment Thursday.

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) A civilian was killed, four others were wounded in a bomb blast in southwestern Baghdad, a security source said on Friday.

“A bomb went off in the morning near a market in al-Radwaniya region, southwest of Baghdad, leaving a civilian killed and four others wounded,” the source told AlSumaria News.

“An IED, placed under a civil vehicle boarded by a police conscript, exploded while as the victim was on way to al-Zidan region in ABu Ghraib, causing his immediate death,” the source told AlSumaria News.

Security troops cordoned off the blast spot, according to the source, who preferred anonymity. “Ambulance transferred the victim to forensic medicine department.”

Harvard Org to Honor CAIR Founder
[FreeBeacon] Nihad Awad and CAIR have been criticized for support of Hamas.

Harvard University's largest student-run organization will bestow a prestigious award Friday night on the founder and executive director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), which has ties to extremist and terror organizations.

The Phillips Brooks House Association (PBHA) will be giving its Robert Coles "Call of Service" award to Nihad Awad, for his work to "defend the rights of Muslims" and for advancing "justice and mutual understanding."

An online petition with over 500 signatures outlines the concerns some have with Awad, including the fact that he and the organization he created were named as unindicted co-conspirators in the 2007 Holy Land Foundation terror-financing case. Five Holy Land Foundation executives were found guilty of funneling millions of dollars to the terror group Hamas.

Awad also explicitly stated his support for the "Hamas movement" during a 1994 speech, write the petitioners.

Prior to founding CAIR, Awad worked as the public relations director for the Islamic Association of Palestine, which the petition notes was directly linked to the Muslim Brotherhood.

"While CAIR presents itself as a civil rights organization defending Muslims from discrimination, Awad's organization has been criticized by many Muslims for claiming to speak in their name," write the petitioners, citing a Gallup poll that showed fewer than 15% of Muslims think of CAIR as their voice.

Zainab Al-Suwaij, cofounder and executive director of the American Islamic Congress, said she was surprised a liberal university would give such an honor to an organization with CAIR's history of ties radical Islamism.

"Especially considering the moment we are in right now, where we are all concerned with violent extremism and radicalization, in particular that of radical Islam," said Al-Suwaij.

Al-Suwaij believes her organization, founded in the wake of 9/11 following what she described as disappointment with the her community's "very defensive response," is more representative of the average American-Muslim than CAIR.

"We have no history of supporting political Islam, and we don't share CAIR's victimhood [mentality]," she said. "CAIR jumps at every occasion to play the Islamophobia card. We don't."

A CAIR spokesperson did not respond to request for comment by press time.

Previous recipients of the "Call of Service" award include former Vice President Al Gore, Black Lives Matter cofounder Alicia Garza, Civil Rights activist Bob Moses, and TransGriot founding editor Monica Roberts.

PBHA and Harvard spokespeople did not respond to requests for comment by press time.

Donald Trump's administration set to DEPORT 300,000 refugees from US
[Express.co.UK] DONALD Trump’s government has announced around 300,000 refugees living in the country can be deported over the next few months.

The US State Department said that Central Americans and Haitians granted temporary status, some who have lived in the country for 20 years, could now be sent to their home countries.

They had originally been given Temporary Protected Status because their nations had been deemed unstable due to armed conflict and natural disasters.

But the Washington Post reported that Secretary of State Rex Tillerson has ruled those conditions no longer apply.

The Department of Homeland Security now has until Monday to announce its plans for about 57,000 Hondurans and 2,500 Nicaraguans whose protections are due to expire.

A large number fled to the US illegally in 1998 as Hurricane Mitch battered Central America and have had their status renewed ever since.

Under the changes, the refugees could be arrested and sported once their protections expire.

So far, the Department of Homeland Security has refused to say what action will be taken.

A decision on the other 240,000 refugees who have the status will be made by January.

Many of them have homes, businesses and children who were born in America.

According to the paper, Donald Trump’s administration has stressed the programme was never meant to allow permanent residency in America.

An official said: "It is fair to say that this administration is interpreting the law, exactly as it is, which the previous one did not.

"It is very clear what needs to be done."

Mr Trump campaigned for the presidency last year on a promise to deport large numbers of immigrants.

Last month, people close to the administration said the White House was considering anti-immigration activists' appeals to pull back on the programme.

And this week, following the truck terror attack in New York that killed eight people, the President urged Congress to end the Diversity Immigrant Visa program under which suspect Sayfullo Saipov entered the United States in 2010.

The diversity program, signed into law in 1990 by President George Bush, was designed to provide more permanent resident visas to people from countries with low US immigration rates.

Don Surber: Trump's economic hurricane
The economy grew by 3 percent in the third quarter -- July, August and September -- despite three Category 5 hurricanes devastating Houston, Florida, and Puerto Rico.

Economists expected 2.5 percent growth.

President Trump delivered what he promised -- and better than expected. It's what he does. He beats expectations. That's why he is a billionaire and Jeff Flake is not.

The U.S. economy unexpectedly maintained a brisk pace of growth in the third quarter as an increase in inventory investment and a smaller trade deficit offset a hurricane-related slowdown in consumer spending and a decline in construction.

Gross domestic product increased at a 3.0 percent annual rate in the July-September period after expanding at a 3.1 percent pace in the second quarter, the Commerce Department said on Friday.

The department said while it was impossible to estimate the overall impact of hurricanes Harvey and Irma on third-quarter GDP, preliminary estimates showed that the back-to-back storms had caused losses of $121.0 billion in privately owned fixed assets and $10.4 billion in government-owned fixed assets.

Under Obama, these stories used the word unexpectedly because the results were worse than expected.

That's because Obama did not know what he was doing.

Trump does.

Rolling back 1,000 regulations, approving two pipelines, renegotiating trade deals, and appointing competent businessmen instead of political hacks to the Cabinet not only have a long term effect, but are goosing the economy in the present as well.

Businesses accumulated inventories at a $35.8 billion pace in the third quarter in anticipation of strong demand. As a result, inventory investment contributed 0.73 percentage point to third-quarter GDP growth, after adding just over a tenth of a percentage point to growth in the prior period.

Businesses stock up when they think business will expand.

They sell off stock when they expect sales to fall.

Under Obama, most businesses sold down their inventory.

Mark Zandi, the chief economist of Moody’s Analytics, who throughout last year's campaign predicted gloom, despair, agony, deep dark depression and excessive misery if we elected Trump, told the New York Times today: “There are no real headwinds to growth for the first time since the expansion began. We are at full employment and we are in full swing, let the good times roll.”

We made the right call last November.

Russian Defense Ministry said that the Russian forces directed several strikes on the sites of ISIL terrorist organization in the city of al-Bukamal in the southeastern countryside of Deir Ezzor city.

“Russian Tu-22M3 long-range bombers struck ISIL targets near the town of al-Bukamal in Syria on Saturday,” the Ministry said in a statement.

Command centers and weapon depots were among the targets hit by the bombers which flew over Iran and Iraq, according to the statement.

On Friday, long-range bombers Tupolev-22 and the submarine The Kolpino have dealt a massive missile and air strike against ISIL terrorists and infrastructure near al-Bukamal. has signed into law controversial legislation to let state-approved holy mans conduct marriage ceremonies, a move critics claim risks undermining Turkey’s secular foundations.

The government-championed measure, passed by parliament last month in the face of bitter opposition, was published Friday in the Official Gazette following Erdogan’s signature Thursday, which means it has now come into force.

The law allows "muftis" to perform and register marriages, as well as state-appointed civil servants.

Muftis are holy mans employed by Turkey’s state religious affairs agency Diyanet with the task of taking care of worship across the country.

Turkey is an overwhelmingly Moslem nation but an official secular state under its constitution as set up by Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the founder of the Ottoman Turkish Republic, in 1923.

"The AKP has taken another step that harms the state’s secular pillars and that moves people away from secularism," Sezgin Tanrikulu, an MP with the opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) which was founded by Ataturk, told AFP.

Until now, the law has stipulated that even religiously observant couples must be married by a state registrar from the local municipality, not a holy man.

Critics also claim the new law will open the way for unregistered marriages, and will breach Turkey’s civil code.

The government however says a marriage conducted by a mufti is a civil marriage, arguing that the bill is actually regulating secular life, not religious life.

But Tanrikulu said the law was "not an actual need" and expressed fear that citizens would feel under pressure to have a religious marriage as this would go down in records that could be examined by future employers.

"The seeds of such a discriminatory practice are being sown today," he said.

Tanrikulu expressed concern in particular that the change will exacerbate an already existing problem in the country with child marriage.

Erdogan’s governments have notably eased restrictions on wearing the Islamic headscarf in education, politics, the police and most recently the army.

The government rejects the criticsm, arguing it allows freedom of worship for all Ottoman Turkish citizens and the lifting of headscarf bans merely brought Turkey into line with the rules in many Western, non-majority Moslem, nations.

Some European countries, notably Britannia, recognize religious marriages but in other EU members like La Belle France and the Netherlands couples must first marry in a civil ceremony.

Brotherhood businessman Malek referred to state security emergency court for attempting to topple regime
[AlAhram] Egypt's top prosecutor Nabil Sadek has referred Moslem Brüderbund businessman Hassan Malek and his son to an emergency state security court on charges from 2015 including belonging to and financing the now-banned group, the prosecutor’s office said on Wednesday.

Twenty-two other co-defendants, including Abdel-Rahman Saudi, also a well-known businessman and member of the banned group, were referred to the High State Security Emergency Criminal Court on the same charges, which also include attempting to topple the regime, assaulting police and army personnel and harming the national economy.

The defendants in the case include 13 individuals who are on the lam.

The prosecution said that Brotherhood material detailing plots to harm the national economy were found at Malek's house.

Since the 1990s, Malek has been considered one of the most prominent businessmen affiliated with the Moslem Brüderbund, along with his business partner and former deputy chairman of the group Khairat El-Shater, who is currently serving jail time for various convictions.

Malek’s commercial and industrial ventures include textile manufacturing, electrical supplies and furniture.

The Moslem Brüderbund was designated a terrorist organization by the Egyptian government in November 2013.

Afghanistan moves to block WhatsApp, Telegram messaging services
[AlAhram] Afghanistan's telecoms regulator wrote to internet service providers this week ordering them to block the messaging services WhatsApp and Telegram but it was not immediately clear whether they had complied.

Use of social media and mobile instant messaging services has went kaboom! in Afghanistan over recent years. Social media users and civil rights groups reacted with outrage to initial reports of the move and the letter sent by telecoms regulator ATRA was widely shared on social media.

Some media reports, citing unidentified sources, said the move had been ordered by the National Directorate for Security to thwart the use of the encrypted messaging services by the Taliban

It was not immediately possible to confirm the reports.

The acting minister for telecommunications, Shahzad Aryobee, posted a message on Facebook saying that the telecoms regulator had been ordered to put a gradual block on the services to improve their functioning after complaints had been received.

"The government is committed to freedom of speech and knows that it is a basic civil right for our people," he wrote.

The letter by telecoms regulator ATRA, dated Nov. 1 and signed by an official of the regulator, directed internet companies to block Telegram and Facebook Inc's WhatsApp services "without delay" for a period of 20 days.

Mobile phone services have been one of the big success stories in Afghanistan since the Taliban were ousted from power by a U.S.-led campaign in 2001, but there are also frequent complaints from users about quality and coverage.

WhatsApp and similar services, including Facebook Messenger and Viber, are widely used by Afghan politicians and members of the government as well as by the Taliban, which has a sophisticated social media operation of its own.

The movement's main front man, Zabihullah Mujahid, wrote to news hounds this week giving his Viber number "in case WhatsApp is not working".

Navy implements smart sonar to battle Hamas naval commando
[Ynet] With land and air defenses covered by Iron Dome and the Gazoo underground obstacle, IDF implements special precise sonar to defend against possible Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", commando incursion by sea.

The Israeli Navy is currently implementing the "Simba", a mobile sonar for precise location in shallow waters, designed to quickly and precisely identify terrorist infiltrations into Israel by sea, mainly from the Gazoo Strip.

Three and a half years since the last naval incursion into the Zikim Beach just north of the Gazoo Strip during the Operation Protective Edge, the IDF estimates that Hamas' naval commando has improved dramatically and already includes hundreds of trained fighters equipped with advanced diving systems.

In light of the proven capabilities of Iron Dome against rockets, and against the backdrop of the underground anti-tunnel obstacle and its related technologies whose effectiveness were proven this earlier week in the destruction of the terror tunnel in the southern Gazoo border, it is estimated that in the next confrontation Hamas will invest its efforts, apparently at the outset, in penetrating Israel by sea.

An underwater sensor system for initial warning of divers was deployed at the bottom of the border two years ago, but despite this, the soldiers of the 916th Ashdod navy patrol squadron were still forced to gear up for dozens of false alarms due to the sensor's imprecise identification.

The new sonar is expected to be vastly superior to the one currently in use: it is mounted on a small and fast Wasp-class amphibious assault ship, and can identify in real time, within a radius of many kilometers, who is an enemy combatant among hundreds of marine mammals, miscellaneous submerged objects and civilian divers.

"Within minutes, we will be able to identify the threat and act against it while still in the water, and eliminate it using grenades and other bombs," an navy officer told Ynet. "Its use will also prevent unnecessary harm to animals that live in water, such as sea turtles."

"This is a sensitive and precise sonar that was originally developed for sea port security," the officer noted. "We made adjustments that allow us to use it in the open sea. Currently the sonar is installed in the southern marine sector, but later on we will be able to use it at all our shores, including the Gulf of Eilat."

The officer added that the sonar could analyze and focus on even the smallest of signals, and could resolve the IDF's weak points in this area.

"The enemy is looking for weak points through which it can penetrate our territory, and the underwater route is a complex area with great potential," he said. "On the other hand, we are currently invested in bolstering our defenses on this front. There are no countries in the world that deal with this issue with the same intensity with which we are dealing."

#1  ...IIRC - perhaps some of our 'Burgers with time in the Navy could clarify - a 'Yankee Search' (the classic 'sonar' sound from movies and TV) can and will do serious damage to a swimmer at close range. So perhaps the Israelis have adapted a sonar to do just that.

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) Three police personnel were killed, while three others were wounded as Islamic State launched at attack in west of Diyala, an official said.

“Militants infiltrated from Hamreen regions in Salahuddin toward Udhaim dam to attack security checkpoint and al-Safra exit using mortar missiles and other weapons,” Abdul Jabbar al-Ebeidi, head of Udhaim town, told Baghdad Today on Friday.

“The attack left three containers burnt, three persons, including police officer, killed and others wounded,” he added.

Ebeidi blamed the attack on “security vacuum in regions between Diyala and Salahuddin from the north of Udhaim.”

Earlier on the day, a security source said security troops, backed by air cover, headed to the exit after the attack to control the situation there.

Trump Has Broken the Apology Hypnosis on Race
[AmericanGreatness] He broke me,” Kathy Griffin famously said of our 45th President as she gazed, narcissistically, upon her self-inflicted wounds after incomprehensibly and symbolically decapitating the man Politico once called an outsider and an outer-borough brawler.

Many Americans of the conservative persuasion have been waiting for a brawler who would fight the good fight internally and not worry about breaking things or being overly attentive to decorum.

Writing in the Kansas City Star this week, Robert Leonard, a self-described liberal political junkie from Iowa who can’t stand the sound of Donald Trump’s voice, gave the clearest evidence yet of the astounding ability of Donald J. Trump to break things that very much need breaking.

Leonard itemized the conventional wisdom about Trump and recited all of the Left’s hopes and dreams for undoing his influence. Then, the surprising conclusion of said liberal political junkie:

This is delusional.

Here in conservative rural America, Trump is ascendant.

Yes, it is delusional, Mr. Leonard, and yes he is ascendant. Not just in conservative rural America, either.

Leonard compared and contrasted Trump’s Value Voters Summit speech as he first read it (he couldn’t bear to hear it because, remember, he hates Trump’s voice) and then as he understood it on a second reading, and this is instructive. He knew of the speech, in a vague and opaque way, through the filter provided by the mainstream media. This meant the import of the thing was diminished in his mind by reinforcing his focus on perceived gaffes and the hope that the president, once again, in the judgment of the “important people” failed.

Leonard, however, was stunned by the political substance of what he read:

Looking only at the written word, and putting Trump’s arrogant off-script comments aside, it was a beautiful speech. Powerful. Inspirational. Brilliant even.

The effect of the comparing and contrasting caricatured media filter to a first and uninhibited reading and then, most importantly, to a second reading speaks volumes. As Leonard made the effort to understand Trump as he understands himself, he discovered something ”powerful,” ”inspirational,” and even “brilliant.” You won’t find those three words often used to describe anything about the current president by people like Robert Leonard, but then, most of them don’t step outside of their echo chambers long enough to hear him as their neighbors do.

Leonard itemized ten different themes of Trump in this speech. To my ears, it’s extremely easy to see the winning formula they represent, for they clearly set down lines of demarcation that have strong appeal in a primarily center-right nation:

1) We’re sustained by the power of prayer versus Democrats who want prayer out of the public sphere.

2) Mass murder event caused by an act of pure evil versus Democrats who blame guns and want to take them away.

3) Honoring first responders versus elevating thugs and viewing our protectors in blue with disdain.

4) Quoting scripture versus Democrats ridiculing those who do.

5) Stressing American unity versus Democrats dividing American society into victims and oppressors.

6) Trump saying “We love our country” versus Obama going on an international “apology tour.”

7) Protecting the unborn versus Democrats turning a blind eye to the horrors of abortion.

8) Focus on strengthening the family unit versus Democrats’ policies that pull families apart.

9) Pride in American history versus Democrats tearing down monuments.

10) Great respect for the American flag versus Democrats who take a knee.

Unknown Group Claims Oct. 20th Egypt Police Ambush
[AnNahar] An unknown jihadist group has claimed a deadly October 20 ambush that killed at least 16 Egyptian coppers in a statement published Friday on Death Eater Islamist social media channels.

The statement purporting to be from a group called Ansar al-Islam -- or "Supporters of Islam" -- also said one of its leaders, Emad al-Din Abdel Hamid, was killed in Egyptian air strikes after the ambush.

The statement could not be independently verified.

No other group has grabbed credit for the attack on police last month that saw assailants gun down officers in a shootout between Cairo and the Bahariya oasis in the Western Desert, a rare flare-up outside Egypt's Sinai Peninsula.

The military said on October 31 and November 1 that it had tracked and killed all the attackers in desert raids and liberated a police officer taken hostage during the ambush.

Egyptian police have for years been seeking a Death Eater named Emad al-Din Abdel Hamid, a former military officer turned jihadist.

He is believed to have joined a fellow officer, Hisham el-Ashmawy, in Libya following the 2013 military ouster of Islamist president Mohammed Morsi.

Authorities are fighting against the Egyptian branch of the Islamic State group in the north of the Sinai peninsula, over 500 kilometres away from the scene of the October ambush.
