At least two dead, 11 wounded in French Christmas market shooting
STRASBOURG, France (Reuters) - A lone gunman shot dead at least two people and wounded 11 others near a Christmas market in the city of Strasbourg on Tuesday evening before fleeing, police said.

The motive was not immediately clear but, with France still on high alert after a wave of attacks commissioned or inspired by Islamic State militants since early 2015, the counter-terrorism prosecutor opened an investigation.

Interior Minister Christophe Castaner said the gunman was known to security services, and the local prefecture said he had previously been identified as a danger to security.

People in the city’s Neudorf area and Etoile park were told to stay where they were as officers hunted the shooter on the ground and from the air.

The European Parliament, which is sitting in Strasbourg this week, was put into lockdown.

“There were gunshots and people running everywhere,” one local shopkeeper told BFM TV. “It lasted about 10 minutes.”

The Christmas market was being held amid tight security this year, with unauthorized vehicles excluded from surrounding streets during opening hours and checkpoints set up on bridges and access points to search pedestrians’ bags.

A source at the prosecutor’s office said the motive for the shooting was not immediately clear.

A Reuters reporter was among 30 to 40 people being held in the basement of a supermarket for their own safety in central Strasbourg, waiting for police to clear the area. Lights were switched off and bottles of water handed out.

Update at 5:10 pm ET: Bright Pebbles submitted the BBC report on this story. Given different sources and update cycles, one or the other may have new information first.
The gunman, known to security services, is on the run and is being hunted by police. He had been injured in an exchange of gunfire with a soldier, police said.

More than a rifle: How a new 6.8mm round, advanced optics will make soldiers, Marines a lot deadlier
[MIL TIMES] For decades, small arms advocates have pushed for a replacement for the M16/M4 weapons carried by most soldiers, Marines and special operators.

And despite long-running programs that have come on the scene and later floundered before being canceled, the much revised 5.56mm weapon and its similarly chambered light machine gun counterpart have continued to be the mainstay of squad-level firepower.

But news over the past year, from the secretary of defense to service chiefs and heads of small arms programs across the force, has revealed the potential for an actual replacement of the weapon first delivered to troops more than half a century ago.

And that weapon is expected to do far more than simply shoot a bigger bullet and weigh less.

Instead, it is designed to be the centerpiece of a more lethal fighting force as ground combat troops see evolutions in their training and equipping take place more rapidly than they’ve seen in decades.

Next summer, prototypes of the new weapon are expected to be ready for test fires. By the end of next year, an advanced night vision and sophisticated targeting system will be reaching troops. All with the goal of getting more rounds downrange, on target and exceeding anything adversaries have in their inventory or will have for years to come.

Though it is an Army program, Marines and special operations forces have been involved in providing feedback on weapons development and will receive the new weapon when fielded. Marines are already scheduled to get thousands of the new night vision devices the Army plans to start fielding late next year.

Iranian Forces in Yemen Demand Arms Smuggling Routes Be Opened
[Free Beacon] Iranian-backed forces in Yemen are demanding the reopening of the country's international airport, a stumbling block in tense negotiations taking place this week between warring factions in Sweden, according to U.S. officials and Western sources on the ground who told the Washington Free Beacon this demand by Iran's Houthi rebels would allow Tehran to continue importing weapons and militants in an area of the Middle East that leaves Israel vulnerable to attack.

As the peace talks drag on with no sustainable end in sight, Iran's Houthi allies are demanding the Sana'a international airport be reopened, but they are taking issue with proposals that would mandate all planes in and out of the airport be screened by Yemen's Saudi-backed government.

Houthi leaders have rejected this compromise, sources confirmed to the Free Beacon, instead seeking to limit the possibility of inspections in order to keep military channels with Iran intact. This latest impasse is being viewed as a sign of the deep divisions that remain between Houthi rebels and Yemen.

The international community has hailed the peace talks as a success‐as it is the first time in more than two years the legitimate Yemeni government and Houthi rebels have met face-to-face‐but after five days of talks, the sides have yet to reach agreement on any of the key confidence building measures on the docket, or on a framework for an eventual peace agreement. The talks are expected to continue through the end of the week.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
The Unbelievable James Comey
[WSJ] The former FBI director professes to know little about how the government came to spy on the political opposition.

Can the story former FBI Director James Comey told Congress on Friday possibly be true? In a joint executive session of the House Judiciary and Oversight committees, Mr. Comey presented himself as unaware and incurious regarding one of the most consequential investigations the FBI has ever conducted. After describing how little he knew about the federal government’s use of its surveillance powers against associates of the presidential campaign of the party out of power in 2016, Mr. Comey then assured lawmakers that the launching of the investigation was proper and free of political bias.

On Saturday a transcript of the Comey testimony was released by the congressional committees. President Donald Trumptweeted without subtlety on Sunday:
On 245 occasions, former FBI Director James Comey told House investigators he didn’t know, didn’t recall, or couldn’t remember things when asked. Opened investigations on 4 Americans (not 2) - didn’t know who signed off and didn’t know Christopher Steele. All lies!

This is perhaps an overstatement. But some skepticism is clearly in order on the part of the President and every other American who wants free and fair elections. Lawmakers were interested in finding out who exactly initiated the investigation and when. Here’s a portion of the transcript in which the Obama administration FBI boss was questioned by Rep. Trey Gowdy (R., S.C.):
Mr. Gowdy. Do you recall who drafted the FBI’s initiation document for that late July 2016 Russia investigation?

Mr. Comey. I do not.

Mr. Gowdy. Would you disagree that it was Peter Strzok?

Mr. Comey. I don’t know one way or the other.

Mr. Gowdy. Do you know who approved that draft of an initial plan for the Russia investigation in late July 2016?

Mr. Comey. I don’t.

This was not just any investigation. On the other hand the FBI is a big place and perhaps the director would not recall which of the staff had worked on a particular document. Under further questioning from Mr. Gowdy, Mr. Comey added that he didn’t remember ever even seeing the document. Again, one might hope that consequential cases going to the heart of our democratic process would be closely supervised by the most senior officials, but any case generates some volume of documents and an FBI director may be able to learn enough from staff briefings to make sensible decisions. The next part of the transcript is harder to swallow:
Mr. Gowdy. How does the FBI launch counterintelligence investigations? What documents are required?

Mr. Comey. I don’t know for sure because it’s opened far below the Director’s level. But there’s documentation in criminal investigations and in counterintelligence investigations to explain the predication for the opening of a file, that is, the basis for the opening of a file.

Mr. Gowdy. Who at the FBI has the authority to launch a counterintelligence investigation into a major political campaign, and would that eventually have to be approved by you?

Mr. Comey. I don’t know for a variety of reasons. I’ve never encountered a circumstance where an investigation into a political campaign was launched, and so I don’t know how that would be done.

Saying that he’s never dealt with the investigation of a political party may seem like a falsehood but Mr. Comey argues that his bureau was not investigating the 2016 Trump campaign as a whole but particular people associated with it. This must be reassuring for Americans to know that the next time they are surveilled while engaging in political activity, perhaps not all of their friends and colleagues will be subjected to such treatment.

However Mr. Comey chooses to characterize the cases he was supposed to be overseeing, he is now saying that neither at that time nor in the more than two years since did he ever know or bother to find out how investigations of political campaigns begin or who authorizes them. Wouldn’t even a passionate anti-Trumper‐which Mr. Comey is‐be at least curious how the machinery operates when his own subordinates take the extraordinary step of investigating the party out of power?

At least according to his Friday testimony, Mr. Comey did not become any more interested in details once the FBI surveillance machinery was grinding its way toward a series of wiretaps. By now many Americans have understandably grown weary of the various Russian collusion claims. But in the summer and fall of 2016 the FBI was supposedly trying to determine if a hostile foreign power had compromised a leading candidate for President.

This is the stuff of spy novels. But even the real former spy peddling bizarre claims that would assist the Obama administration’s pursuit of those wiretaps didn’t arouse much curiosity or suspicion in the FBI chief, according to Mr. Comey’s Friday testimony. In this portion of the transcript it appears that to this day Mr. Comey doesn’t much care whether the bureau’s source was indirectly paid by the Democratic National Committee to generate dirt on Mr. Trump:
Mr. Gowdy. Who is Christopher Steele?

Mr. Comey. My understanding is that Christopher Steele is a former intelligence officer of an allied nation who prepared a series of reports in the summer of 2016 that have become known as the Steele dossier.

Mr. Gowdy. How long did he have a relationship with the FBI?

Mr. Comey. I don’t know...

Mr. Gowdy. When did you learn he was working for Fusion GPS?

Mr. Comey. I don’t know that I ever knew that...

Mr. Gowdy. When did you learn that Fusion GPS was hired by Perkins Coie?

Mr. Comey. I never learned that, certainly not while I was Director.

Mr. Gowdy. Well, when did you learn the DNC had hired Perkins Coie?

Mr. Comey. I never learned that. Again, while I was Director. I think I’ve read it in the media, but, yeah, even today, I don’t know whether it’s true.

Wouldn’t a reasonable person make it his business to find out who paid whom if for no other reason than to make sure that as FBI director he hadn’t been taken in by a partisan attack disguised as a national security case?

Mr. Comey rejected the possibility that law enforcers in the Obama administration targeted Team Trump in response to questioning by Rep. Ted Deutch (D., Fla.):

Mr. Deutch. Director Comey, do you believe the FBI or DOJ ever investigated the Trump campaign for political purposes?

Mr. Comey. I not only don’t believe it, I know it not to be true.

Mr. Deutch. I’m sorry, would you repeat that?

Mr. Comey. I know it not to be true. I know that we never investigated the Trump campaign for political purposes.

How would he know, if the rest of his testimony is accurate?

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Two car-ramming attempts reported in West Bank; one suspected attacker shot dead
[IsraelTimes] In separate incidents, one near Hebron, the other in Jordan Valley, Paleostinians allegedly try to run over border guards

Israeli border guards rubbed out a Paleostinian driver who they said tried to ram his car into them outside of Hebron on Tuesday morning.

In a separate incident, in the northern Jordan Valley, a Paleostinian man allegedly accelerated his car toward a group of Border Police officers. The troops fired warning shots into the air, and the suspect stopped and was tossed in the calaboose
Don't shoot, coppers! I'm comin' out!
, police said.

The police said both cases were being investigated.

The Border Police officers in the town of Idhna, outside Hebron, were standing guard as members of the Defense Ministry’s Civil Administration, which oversees day-to-day activities in the West Bank, were taking part in an effort to crack down on the illegal burning of garbage.

According to police, the Paleostinian suspect drove through a checkpoint the border guards had set up, hit a security vehicle with his car and then "accelerated toward a Border Police officer."

The border guards shot up the vehicle, fatally wounding the suspect, who was identified by Paleostinian authorities as 27-year-old Omar Hassan al-Awawdeh.

No Israeli troops were maimed.

In the village of al-Jiftlik in the northern Jordan Valley, the border guards were guarding Civil Administration troops who were knocking down illegally constructed buildings when the Paleostinian suspect drove toward them.

Police said the suspect was a 30-year-old man from the village.

He was handed over to the Shin Bet security service for further questioning.

The two seemingly unconnected incidents came two days after gunnies in a white car shot up a group of Israelis standing at a bus stop outside the Ofra settlement, near Ramallah, injuring seven of them, including a pregnant woman who was maimed.

Satellite images which Ukraine say proves Russia is amassing its army on the borders, prompting fears of an invasion
[MAIL] Satellite images appearing to show hundreds of Russian tanks just 11 miles from the Ukrainian border have emerged ten days after President Petro Poroshenko warned that Moscow is scrambling its army on his doorstep.

The images were reportedly taken by Google Earth satellites last month, and shows the Russian military base in Kamensk-Shakhtinsky, near Ukraine's eastern border.

Last month, President Poroshenko showed satellite images of the same base, which indicated that more tanks had arrived in recent months.

The new satellite images show around 250 T-62 battle tanks and around one thousand military trucks, artillery systems and tankers at the base, according to the Defence Blog.

'This is 18km from my border, this is the same warehouse where they have their ammunition, the same where they have multi-rocket launch systems, we should be prepared to protect my country,' Poroshenko told Sky News.

#1  GE imagery link found here.

Zooming out from Russian tank park will reveal Ukraine border (white line) 18.47 kilometers straight west.

The absence of HETs (Heavy Equipment Transports) likely indicates the armor arrived via rail line which is approx 1.7k to the west of the tank park. A permanent armored depot would likely have a rail spur running directly to it.

A cursory scan of the area did not reveal any tank gunnery ranges or other armor related training areas. Proximity to civilian housing also points to assembly area vs training area.

Barring a Barrett-Jackson armor auction, I'm labeling this a forward armor assembly area. There may well be others.

SCOTUS Gives Planned Parenthood A Constitutional Right To Public Funds
[Red State] A little earlier today, the Supreme Court declined to hear challenges to two lower court rulings that said states could not refuse to recognize Planned Parenthood as a Medicaid provider. Kansas and Louisiana passed laws in 2014, based on the celebrated undercover videos of James O’Keefe’s Project Veritas that showed Planned Parenthood officials sizing up the value of aborted babies with all the conscience of the manager of a mob-owned New Jersey auto chop-shop.

Conservative justices Clarence Thomas, Neil Gorsuch, and Samuel Alito voted in favor of taking up the challenge, but fellow conservatives John Roberts and Brett Kavanaugh voted against, depriving their colleagues of the four votes required to review a case.

Given the criminality involved and the basic absence of medical care available at Planned Parenthood facilities (no, they actually don’t do mammograms and most of their services are no more sophisticated that what you get at a drug store and do yourself at home...other than killing babies, of course) this should have been an open-and-shut issue of what businesses state governments decide to give their money to.

It could only be an entitlement.
Posted by: Bright Pebbles || 12/11/2018 7:54 Comments || Top||

#2  Sorry, but that headline from Red State is terribly misleading. What the court decided was not to hear appeals from conflicting appellate court decisions, which said in several circuits that private parties could sue states over changes in Medicaid coverage or providers, and in another circuit, which said they could not sue. All the Supreme Court did was to not rule (for now) on the issue of who could sue. This allows lawsuits in several Circuits to go forward in a district court which will eventually decide whether states can defund providers. Nothing gives Planned Parenthood any 'rights'. This was a decision not to allow hearings on whether Federal law allows such lawsuits from private persons, if for instance, their preferred doctor is removed from Medicaid plans, or if a state decides to pay more or less for any given medical procedure or service. The 2 states which were the subject of the lawsuits did defund Planned Parenthood, but the case the Supreme Court passed on was about who could sue, not on the issue of PP.

#5  Glad to be of help. It has been speculated that both Roberts and Kavanaugh voted not to hear the appeal (for now), because they feared that it would be misrepresented as an abortion case, or a Planned Parenthood case, and so cause more discord, especially considering Kavanaugh's confirmation fight. Clarence Thomas wrote a serious dissent, in which he said resolving splits among the circuits is the Supreme Court's responsibility (he's right), and the only reason the liberals, Roberts and Kavanaugh declined to hear the case is because it has the name "Planned Parenthood" in it somewhere. Legal experts seem to think they will wait for a similar case and hear it, when it is less likely to lead to more hate and discontent. It also sounds like whenever the case (or a similar case) is heard, the Court will rule that Congress did not intend for citizens to have the right to sue over every administrative decision made by Medicaid managers. In the meantime, it seems unlikely Congress will look at this and tighten the statute, since the houses of Congress are now split. This is really kind of an unimportant non-issue which will get settled in a year or two.

Is Europe Enabling Iran's Nuclear program?
[American Thinker] On August 6, 2018 President Trump announced the reimposition of nuclear-related sanctions on Iran following his announcement in May that the U.S. would withdraw from the Iran nuclear deal (aka the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action or JCPOA). These announcements were geared at precluding Iran from receiving funding from sanctions-free trade that it could use toward any secret nuclear weapons-related work. However, Europe, led by Germany and France, is attempting to rescue Iran’s flailing economy by bypassing U.S. sanctions.

The Iran nuclear deal was based on a lie. It was claimed that the deal would allow Iran substantial sanctions relief, and in return delay Iran’s development of nuclear weapons. This lie was promoted by many world leaders, nations, and organizations, and culminated in the 2015 signing of the JCPOA.

It was not until President Trump became leader of the free world that the United States stopped enabling Iran’s nuclear ambitions and made it clear that anyone seeking to continue doing business with Iran would face sanctions. The sanctions were reinstated on some sectors of the Iranian economy on August 7, 2018 and the remaining ones went into effect on November 5.

President Trump explained the importance of sanctions, stating:

Instead of yearning for reruns of Strictly Come Dancing and a flash of Monty Don during a Gardener’s World omnibus, Mrs Peters holds steadfast mechanical skills. Whereas most girls were expected to heed the cultural stereotype and remain home for remedial duties post-WWII, Dorothy instead went to work for Rover on a rather special project.

In July 1946, at the tender age of 15, Solihull-born Dorothy joined the service department in Rover’s Lode Lane factory. Working alongside a youthful team, the adolescents were instrumental in bringing the first Series Land Rovers to life. In particular, Dorothy worked on chassis #16 during off-road trials.

President Trump to meet with Democrats on border wall, shutdown
WASHINGTON (AP) ‐ President Donald Trump and Democratic congressional leaders are seeking to avert a partial government shutdown amid a sharp dispute over Trump’s border wall and a lengthy to-do list that includes a major farm bill and a formal rebuke of Saudi Arabia for the slaying of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

Trump is set to confer Tuesday at the White House with House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi and Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer ahead of a Dec. 21 deadline to shut down a range of government agencies.

"Republicans still control the House, the Senate and the White House, and they have the power to keep government open," Pelosi and Schumer said in a joint statement Monday.

"Our country cannot afford a Trump Shutdown," the Democrats said, adding that Trump "knows full well that his wall proposal does not have the votes to pass the House and Senate and should not be an obstacle to a bipartisan agreement."

Republican congressional leaders have repeatedly said it’s up to Trump to cut a deal with Democrats, an acknowledgement of their own inability to produce spending bills with Republican votes alone.

That gives Democrats some momentum heading into the closed-door talks, which also could veer into Trump’s request for emergency funding for deadly wildfires in California and a Republican-sponsored bill to extend expiring tax breaks and delay some health-care taxes.

AFM: Record count reported for mysterious paralyzing illness
[AP] NEW YORK (AP) ‐ This year has seen a record number of cases of a mysterious paralyzing illness in children, U.S. health officials said Monday.

It’s still not clear what’s causing the kids to lose the ability to move their face, neck, back, arms or legs. The symptoms tend to occur about a week after the children had a fever and respiratory illness.

No one has died from the rare disease this year, but it was blamed for one death last year and it may have caused others in the past.

What’s more, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention officials say many children have lasting paralysis. And close to half the kids diagnosed with it this year were admitted to hospital intensive care units and hooked up to machines to help them breathe.

The condition has been likened to polio, a dreaded paralyzing illness that once struck tens of thousands of U.S. children a year. Those outbreaks ended after a polio vaccine became available in the 1950s. Investigators of the current outbreak have ruled out polio, finding no evidence of that virus in recent cases.

The current mystery can be traced to 2012, when three cases of limb weakness were seen in California. The first real wave of confirmed illnesses was seen in 2014, when 120 were reported. Another, larger wave occurred in 2016, when there were 149 confirmed cases. So far this year, there have been 158 confirmed cases.

In 2015 and 2017, the counts were far lower, and it’s not clear why.

The condition is called acute flaccid myelitis, or AFM. Investigators have suspected it is caused by a virus called EV-D68. The 2014 wave coincided with a lot of EV-D68 infections and the virus "remains the leading hypothesis," said Dr. Ruth Lynfield, a member of a 16-person AFM Task Force that the CDC established last month to offer advice to disease detectives.

2. It Spreads Easily

EV-D68 is spread just like the common cold. That means frequent and thorough hand washing with soap and water for 20 seconds -- is one of the best ways to avoid the virus. Remind your children to avoid touching their eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands, and to cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue or shirt sleeve, not their hands. Clean and disinfect touched surfaces, like your child's toys, countertops and doorknobs. Strober recommends keeping your children away from kids who are sick, and keep them home from daycare or school if they are sick to avoid spreading the virus.

Immigration Fraud: Lies That Kill - 9/11 Commission identified immigration fraud as a key embedding tactic of terrorists
BLUF:
[Social Contact Press] However, as the 9/11 Commission discovered and as has been disclosed at a series of Congressional oversight hearings, terrorists have also committed fraud to gain entry to the U.S. and then embed themselves. Yet most of our politicians, including the mayors and governors of "Sanctuary" cities and states, blithely ignore the damage being done to Americans who are losing their livelihoods and, all too often, their lives, to aliens who are violating our laws and our borders.

For these politicians, the harm being done to Americans is "collateral damage," or, as the father of a young man who was killed in lower Manhattan on September 11, 2001, during the terror attacks, "the cost of doing business." Our politicians are arguably conducting the biggest con game in the history of our nation.

France’s Macron vows to use ‘all means’ to restore calm
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] French President Emmanuel Macron is promising "all means" will be used to restore calm after the disruptive protests that have deeply shaken the nation.

On Monday night, Macron addressed La Belle France for the first time since anti-tax protests around the country turned into rioting in Gay Paree.

Trying to sound gentle and calming, Macron acknowledged "anger and indignation" among members of the public over the cost of living.

But he also said "no indulgence" would be given to people behind the protest violence.

He said "no anger justifies" attacking police or looting stores, saying both threaten La Belle France’s cherished liberty.

MINIMUM WAGE HIKES
Macron announced on Monday a 100-euro ($113) per month increase in the minimum wage from next year in a major concession to "yellow vest" protesters who have roiled the country.

The minimum wage was set at 1,498 euros per month pre-tax in 2018 and 1,185 euros after tax.

Macron also rolled back most of an unpopular increase in taxes on pensioners which was introduced by his government.

He stressed that the protests by mostly low-income people in small town or rural La Belle France were the result of long-term problems.

"Their distress doesn’t date from yesterday. We have ended up getting used to it," he said. "These are forty years of malaise that have come to the surface," he added.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
Meet the G3 Battle Rifle (And It's a Legend for a Reason)
[The National Interest] In the late 1950s, the Bundeswehr, West Germany’s armed forces, needed a new infantry rifle. Part practical endeavor and part rebranding effort, the adoption of the G3 battle rifle was a symbolic establishment of the West German Army as an independent military force. The sturdy, beefy 7.62-millimeter rifle would serve nearly forty years, first on the Iron Curtain’s frontier and later as the first rifle of a reunified Germany.

The armed forces of West Germany were founded in 1955, ten years after the defeat of Nazi Germany. The breakdown of the wartime alliance between the United States, United Kingdom, France and Soviet Union divided Germany into two states, West Germany and East Germany, separated along ideological lines. The large number of Soviet conventional forces in Eastern Europe, particularly East Germany, could not be effectively countered without some form of West German remilitarization, and once established the Bundeswehr quickly evolved to become the backbone of NATO’s defense plan.

The West German army was originally supplied with surplus American small arms, including the M-1 Garand rifle . The Soviet deployment of the AK-47 assault rifle was an alarming development, sounding warning bells across a NATO that had largely neglected small arms after World War II. The AK-47 was chambered in 7.62x39-millimeter, capable of fully automatic fire and fed from a thirty-round box magazine, A Red Army unit equipped with the AK-47 could generate far more firepower than one equipped with the M-1 Garand. In the event of war, Bonn’s army‐and most NATO infantry, for that matter‐would be outgunned at the small unit level.

West German officials cast their eye to Spain, where the Spanish CETME rifle held great promise. Ironically, CETME had been developed by German engineers working in France and Spain after the war, engineers that had developed the wartime Sturmgewehr-45 (StG-45) assault rifle. The CETME resembled and used many of the features of the StG-45, including a delayed blowback operating system designed to reduce recoil. The Spanish weapon was chambered in 7.62-millimeter, at the time fast becoming the standard NATO rifle caliber, and utilized a twenty-round detachable magazine.

Indian Navy Ship Seizes Arms, Ammunition Off Somali Coast
[RADIOSHABELLE] An Indian Navy ship, deployed on anti-piracy operation in the Gulf of Aden, has seized arms and ammunition off the coast of Somalia in a quick operation, officials said Saturday.

The ship INS Sunayna carried out the operation on Friday in which four high caliber AK-47 rifles and one Light Machine Gun, along with ammunition for these weapons were seized from a vessel, Navy officials said.

INS Sunayna carried out a similar operation off the coast of Somalia last month as well.

The ship detected a suspicious fishing vessel, approximately 25 nautical miles off the coast of Somalia, in the vicinity of Socotra island, following which the operation was launched, they said.

"The vessel was thoroughly searched and allowed to proceed, after confiscation of the arms and ammunition, to prevent their illegal use later by the crew for piracy-related activities," said a Navy official.

"This incident reiterates the commitment of the Indian Navy towards ensuring safe seas for Indian, as well as international, seafarers in the Indian Ocean region," he said.

during a weekly protest against the Tel Aviv regime’s 12-year naval blockade.
It is Monday, according to the calendar. The weekly protests take place on Friday along the Gaza fence, which is exactly what happened.
The Arabic-language Shehab news agency reported that eleven protesters were struck with live bullets on Monday, while 12 others suffered wounds after being hit with rubber-coated steel bullets. Another Paleostinian protester was injured by shrapnel.

Dozens of demonstrators suffered tear gas inhalation as well, and were transferred to hospitals for treatment.

Earlier in the day, the Fishermen Committees in the Union of Agricultural Work Committees announced in a statement that Israeli forces had targeted Paleostinian boats west of Rafah City.

The statement added that marines then boarded a boat and incarcerated

Syrian army demobilises some conscripted, reservist officers
[AlAhram] The Syrian military will demobilise some conscripted and reserve officers, the military said on Monday, following the government’s recapture of much of the country from rebels and the dwindling of fighting on many fronts.

Last week UN special Syria envoy Staffan de Mistura said there was "no major military territorial conflict" at present, but Damascus has sworn to retake every inch of Syria and there is no sign of an imminent peace deal.

The tide of the 7 1/2-year-old conflict turned in the government’s favour in 2015 with the intervention of Russian air power to supplement Iran-backed militias fighting in support of Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Leveler of Latakia...
The army general command issued an administrative order on Monday ending active service for conscripted officers who will have completed five extra years, beyond their original 18-month term of mandatory military service, in January.

The order, which takes effect next week, also demobilizes reserve officers who joined in 2013 and who will have completed five years of reserve service by January.

The army began demobilising some conscripts who had served long periods in May, shortly after it took back eastern Ghouta, the last major rebel enclave near the capital Damascus.

After the conflict erupted in 2011, desertions, defections and deaths drained the Syrian army.

It has relied on critical support from Shia militias including Leb’s Iran-backed Hezbollah movement, though devastating Russian air strikes on rebel areas proved decisive in Assad’s military comeback.

Syria conscripts men at age 18 into the army. During the conflict many conscripts said they were serving additional years with no sign of being discharged.

Damascus announced an amnesty in October for men who deserted the army or avoided military service, giving them several months to report for duty without facing punishment.

Israeli Troops Erect New Sand Barrier near Leb Border
[AnNahar] The Israeli military embarked on erecting a sand barrier in Mays al-Jabal-Tallet Sharaqi on the border with Leb on Monday, LBCI TV station reported.

Israel operated under the monitoring of the UNIFIL, added LBCI.

On Sunday, tensions surged after dozens of Israeli troops and a Poclain excavator crossed the electronic border fence and started drilling works near the U.N.-demarcated Blue Line.

The move prompted the Lebanese Army and UNIFIL peacekeepers to go on alert in the area.

Earlier Israeli forces said they uncovered another Hizbullah

Israel began an operation last week to detect and "neutralize" what it called attack passageways dug by the Iranian-backed group into northern Israel.

According to al-Saadi, the arrested Lions of Islam were planning to create chaos in the city and launch several terrorist attacks.

Mashnouq Says ISF Thwarted Bombing Attacks by IS
[AnNahar] Caretaker Interior Minister Nouhad al-Mashnouq on Monday revealed that the Internal Security Forces have discovered and thwarted planned bombing attacks by the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group.

Mashnouq told news hounds that the bombs were smuggled in from the rebel-held northwestern Syrian province of Idlib in buckets of cheese, and were intended for targeting places of worship, gatherings of Christians and military posts.

The minister added that the attacks were supposed to take place during Leb's parliamentary elections in May.
May was a long time ago. Why are they just announcing it now?
He added that those planning the attacks were monitored by the ISF Intelligence Branch for 10 months through a Syrian informer in Leb.

The announcement came ahead of the Christmas season when many Lebanese celebrate in public places.

IS and al-Qaeda-linked Death Eaters carried out attacks in Leb in the past, killing scores.

Science & Technology
NASA’s Voyager 2 reaches interstellar space
[PRESSTV] NASA's Voyager 2 probe has left the protective bubble around the Sun and is flying through interstellar space, becoming the second human-made object to travel so far, the US space agency says.

The announcement came six years after its twin spacecraft, Voyager 1, broke the outer boundary of the heliopause, where the hot solar wind meets the cold, dense space between stars, known as the interstellar medium.

Voyager 2 is now more than 11 billion miles (18 billion kilometers) from Earth, having passed the boundary on November 5.

"This time is even better for us," said Nicky Fox, director of the heliophysics division at NASA, noting that one instrument, called the Plasma Science Experiment (PLS), is still functioning on Voyager 2.

"To have the Voyagers sending back information about the edge of the Sun's influence gives us an unprecedented glimpse of truly uncharted territory."

The same instrument on Voyager 1 stopped working in 1980.

The two spacecraft, which look like a combination of a satellite dish and an old television set with rabbit ear antennas, were launched in 1977 on a mission to explore planets in our solar system.

The twin probes have left the heliosphere, but have not yet left the solar system, "and won't be leaving anytime soon," NASA said in a statement.

"The boundary of the solar system is considered to be beyond the outer edge of the Oort Cloud, a collection of small objects that are still under the influence of the Sun's gravity."

NASA says it will take about 300 years for Voyager 2 to reach the inner edge of the Oort Cloud, and possibly 30,000 years to fly beyond it.

"We're looking forward to what we'll be able to learn from having both probes outside the heliopause," said Suzanne Dodd, Voyager project manager at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party,.

Voyager 2 is officially NASA's longest-running mission.

The two spacecraft were designed to last five years and study Jupiter and Saturn.

"Both spacecraft are very healthy, if you consider them senior citizens," said Suzanne Dodd, director for the Interplanetary Network Directorate, as the science results were unveiled at the American Geophysical Union annual meeting in the US capital.

Persian Gulf kingdom sought to buy Israeli Hermes attack drones
[PRESSTV] A recent report has disclosed that a Persian Gulf kingdom wanted to purchase Israeli-made unmanned aerial vehicles several years ago amid reports that a number of Arab countries are dramatically warming up their relations with the Tel Aviv regime after secret contacts.

According to a report published by the Kan public broadcaster, the purchasing country, which was not identified in the report due to military censorship, made the request to acquire Elbit Hermes 450 medium-size long-endurance drones, which can be armed with air-to-surface munitions.

Israeli military officials mulled the offer for a while before turning it down after careful consideration, the report added.

The Persian Gulf kingdom then purchased Chinese Chengdu Pterodactyl I, also known as Wing Loong, drone.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Monday that the authorities of Oman had allowed Israeli planes to use the country's airspace for flights, adding that Israel was working toward getting similar authorization from Saudi Arabia.

1,600 polio workers boycott anti-polio campaign in Gilgit Baltistan
[DAWN] Nearly 1,600 polio
...Poliomyelitis is a disease caused by infection with the poliovirus. Between 1840 and the 1950s, polio was a worldwide epidemic. Since the development of polio vaccines the disease has been largely wiped out in the civilized world. However, since the vaccine is known to make Moslem pee-pees shrink and renders females sterile, bookish, and unsubmissive it is not widely used by the turban and automatic weapons set...
workers will boycott an anti-polio campaign in Gilgit Baltistan because a dispute regarding pensions and other privileges has remained unresolved, Polio Workers Association for GB Vice President Mohammad Abbas said on Monday.

The four-day campaign was set to start today. Of the 1,600 polio workers, 99 per cent were female.

Abbas said that the boycott was ongoing in all ten districts of GB.

He added that prior to the boycott, they had not received cooperation in solving their problems through negotiations.

A nationwide anti-polio campaign is set to start today in an effort to vaccinate more than 38 million children under five years of age.

During the campaign, over 270,000 frontline workers will go door to door to ensure that every child receives vaccines.

Pakistain and Afghanistan are the only two countries in the world that have reported poliovirus cases this year.

"Home equity" in multimillion$ Canadian mansions offered in bail negotiations
[StraitsTimes] VANCOUVER - Police in the Canadian city of Vancouver are investigating an early morning break-in on Sunday (Dec 9) at the home of Huawei chief financial officer Meng Wanzhou, who was arrested on US fraud allegations over a week ago.

Ms Meng's husband, Mr Liu Xiaozong, is listed as the owner of the house. In an affidavit read by her lawyer in court last Friday, Ms Meng said she and her husband bought the six-bedroom house in 2009.

In 2016, they bought a second property, a brick-and-glass mansion set in a 21,000 sq ft lot assessed at C$16.3 million. Purchased with mortgages from HSBC, she has offered to post the family's equity in both as part of her bail, reported Bloomberg.

UNIFIL Says Situation Calm as Israeli Troops Cross Border Fence
[AnNahar] The U.N. Interim Force in Leb (UNIFIL) reassured Sunday that the situation on the southern border is calm after Israeli drilling outside the border fence stoked the already heightened tensions in the area.

The tensions surged after dozens of Israeli troops and a Poclain excavator crossed the electronic border fence and started drilling works near the U.N.-demarcated Blue Line.

The move prompted the Lebanese Army and UNIFIL peacekeepers to go on alert in the area.

The National News Agency said the Israeli excavator erected a sand barrier around 20 meters away from the Blue Line as Israeli troops deployed behind it and a surveillance balloon hovered over the Kroum al-Sharraqi area.

The Israeli army also brought dozens of military vehicles and Merkava tanks to a military route behind the border as an MK drone overflew the tense area.

The Israeli troops deployed "very close" to Lebanese soldiers on the opposite side of the border, the Lebanese National News Agency said.

Israeli forces also put blue marks on some rocks near the Blue Line and extended a black cable on the ground.

"UNIFIL forces intercepted them when they tried to install a barbed wire in a disputed area," NNA said.

The Lebanese Army meanwhile reinforced its positions in the area and brought vehicles carrying 106mm guns to the border town of Mays al-Jabal.

UNIFIL front man Andrea Tenenti said the situation remains calm and that no Blue Line violation was recorded, reassuring that U.N. peacekeepers are present on the ground to monitor the situation and preserve stability.

"They are working in coordination with the Lebanese Armed Forces and the Mission’s command is engaged with the parties to maintain stability," NNA quoted him as saying.

The Israeli army said Tuesday that it had launched an operation to "neutralize" suspected "attack tunnels" allegedly dug by Hizbullah
...Party of God, a Leb militia inspired, founded, funded and directed by Iran. Hizbullah refers to itself as The Resistance and purports to defend Leb against Israel, with whom it has started and lost one disastrous war to date, though it did claim victory...
across the frontier.

It said its activities will remain confined to Israeli territory but Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have warned that the military "may have to operate inside Leb."

EU will launch financial mechanism with Iran by year-end: Mogherini
[PRESSTV] The European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
will establish a mechanism to facilitate non-dollar transactions with Iran in the near future in an attempt to circumvent sanctions imposed by the United States against Tehran, EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini says.

"I will expect this instrument to be established in the coming weeks before the end of the year as a way to protect and promote legitimate business," Mogherini told news hounds in Brussels on Monday.

The top EU diplomat did not offer any other details following a meeting of the bloc's foreign ministers in Brussels, but said work on creating the mechanism was "advancing well."

US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
withdrew his country in May from the landmark Iran nuclear deal, officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), and decided to re-impose unilateral sanctions against Tehran.

Under the deal, reached between Iran and six major powers -- the United States, Britannia, La Belle France, Germany, Russia and China -- Tehran agreed to put limits on its nuclear program in exchange for the removal of nuclear-related sanctions.

The Trump administration announced early in November the re-imposition of the "toughest" sanctions ever against Iran's banking and energy sectors with the aim of cutting off the country's oil sales and crucial exports.

A first round of American sanctions took effect in August, targeting Iran's access to the US dollar, metals trading, coal, industrial software, and auto sector.

The US administration hoped to get the other parties to the deal with Iran to likewise scrap the deal, but instead, they stressed that not only would they stick to the agreement, but they would also work to sustain it in the face of increased US pressure.

Qatari envoy says Gaza airport was proposed, Israel unresponsive

They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates. Home of nutbag holy manYusuf al-Qaradawi...
i envoy overseeing the Gulf state's humanitarian aid for the Gazoo Strip said on Monday that he had proposed building an airport in the blockaded Paleostinian enclave but had received no response from Israel.

In coordination with Israel and the United Nations
...boodling on the grand scale...
, Qatar has donated hundreds of millions of dollars to various Gazoo projects that the partners say are designed to stave off Paleostinian poverty and prevent escalations in violence.

"They [Israel] said it would be discussed and they procrastinated... We will renew our request," Qatari Ambassador Mohammed al-Emadi told the Gazoo-based news agency SAWA.

"The Israeli side had security concerns and we told them we can resolve them by having the planes fly to Doha and return to Gazoo from there and under Qatari security supervision."

Israel has not responded, al-Emadi said, but proposed that such an airport be built on its side of the border - an idea the diplomat said had been rejected by Qatar.

Cogat, the Israeli government agency that has been coordinating with Qatar on the Gazoo aid efforts, declined comment on al-Emadi's remarks.

In 1998, the Paleostinians got their first international airport as a result of the historic peace treaty with Israel, but Israel destroyed its radar antenna and runway a year after the second Paleostinian uprising, known as the al-Aqsa Intifada, began in September 2001.

Israel withdrew its settlers and soldiers from Gazoo in 2005, but it maintains tight control of Gazoo's land, air and sea borders. Egypt controls access from the south.

Israel says the restrictions are to stop weapons from entering the Strip and to isolate Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth",, which has controlled Gazoo's two million population since 2007.

Olde Tyme Religion
Iran said to arrest over 100 Christians in crackdown on conversions
[IsraelTimes] While the Islamic Theocratic Republic permits religious practice by its Christian minority, defection from Islam is a punishable offense.

Iranian authorities have reportedly placed in durance vile
... anything you say can and will be used against you, whether you say it or not...
over 100 Christians in the past few days, as they seek to crackdown on conversions and what they claim is proselytizing by evangelicals.

Citing Open Doors UK, a charity that monitors persecution of Christians around the world, the Telegraph reported Monday that growing public interest in the minority faith, which makes up less than 1 percent ‐ or around 350,000 ‐ of the population, has worried the Islamic regime, leading to to crackdowns on churches and congregants.

While the existing Christian minority is accepted by Iran’s rulers, conversion from Islam is a punishable offense.

"This spike in arrests is highly concerning," Zoe Smith, head of advocacy at Open Doors, told the paper. "It follows an established trend of the Iranian government: as the number of converts to Christianity increase, so the authorities place greater restrictions on churches.

"The restrictions are worse for churches seen to be attended by Christians who have converted from Islam. Not only that, but the government is asking unreasonably high bail amounts and seeing longer prison terms for Christians."

She added that Church leaders are being "put under pressure to leave the country or face an arrest."

Rights groups such as Human Rights Watch and Amnesia Amnesty International have criticized Iran for its mistreatment of Christian converts, as well as other religious and ethnic minority groups.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has lambasted Iran on several occasions for its treatment of Christians. In July he said Iran was torturing and jailing Christians in a "brutal" persecution campaign. Last Christmas he mocked Iran’s foreign minister for posting holiday greetings on Twitter.

"Saying ’Merry Christmas’ while jailing Christians in your own country is the height of hypocrisy," Netanyahu said.

IDF hunts Palestinian gunmen, raids PA’s official Wafa news agency in Ramallah
[IsraelTimes] Clashes break out a few hundred meters away from Abbas’s house after large number of Israeli troops enter West Bank city

As the IDF’s hunt after the Paleostinian bully boyz in a drive-by shooting in the central West Bank approached its 24th hour, troops raided the Ramallah offices of the official Paleostinian news agency, the agency and witnesses said Monday.

Seven Israeli civilians were maimed in the attack Sunday evening at a bus stop near the Ofra settlement, with doctors forced to prematurely deliver the baby of one of the maimed.

Israeli soldiers entered Ramallah on Monday morning, with low-level festivities breaking out a few hundred meters from the house of Paleostinian Authority President the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas
... a graduate of the prestigious unaccredited Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow with a doctorate in Holocaust Denial...
They seized the security camera footage of a nearby building, according to employees of the news agency.

Two people were hit with live bullets during the festivities, according to the Paleostinian Red Islamic Thingy.

Later, soldiers raided the headquarters of Wafa, the official Paleostinian news agency, including the photography and editing offices, a statement from the news agency said.

An army spokeswoman said she could not comment on the Ramallah raid, including whether it was part of the hunt for the button men from Sunday night’s incident.

A Paleostinian Authority official condemned the raid. Speaking to Paleostine TV, Ahmad Assaf, the PA official responsible for overseeing government-run Paleostinian media, called it a "crime" and vowed that it would not dissuade him and his colleagues from "exposing the occupation’s crimes."

Assaf also asserted that the Paleostinians would follow up in international institutions and organizations in order to hold Israel to account for the raid.

BABY FIGHTING FOR HIS LIFE
Earlier Monday, doctors at Jerusalem’s Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem delivered via a Cesarean section the baby of one victim of the shooting, who was 30 weeks pregnant, the hospital said.

The hospital added that the mother, 21, was stable but the baby boy’s condition had taken a turn for the worse.

After the attack, the Israel Defense Forces quickly launched a search for the button men, shutting down roads and establishing temporary checkpoints on the surrounding highways on Sunday night.

During the searches, Israeli troops entered the town of Silwad, outside Ramallah and just north of Ofra, late Sunday night, according to the PA’s Wafa news outlet.

In Silwad, local residents clashed with the Israeli troops, throwing rocks and other objects at the military vehicles. In response, the soldiers fired tear gas and other less-lethal riot dispersal weapons at the rioters, according to Wafa.

The northern entrance to al-Bireh, a town adjacent to Ramallah, was also closed in both directions on Sunday night, Wafa reported.

The army said on Monday morning that the perpetrators had so far not been located.

"IDF, border police and security forces commenced extensive searches in the villages in the area as part of the hunt for the bully boyz who committed the attack," a statement on Monday said. "The IDF will continue to operate to apprehend the bully boyz and ensure the security of civilians."

U.N. Conference Adopts Migration Pact despite Withdrawals
[AnNahar] A United Nations
...aka the Oyster Bay Chowder and Marching Society...
conference adopted a migration pact in front of leaders and representatives from over 160 countries in Morocco on Monday, despite a string of withdrawals driven by anti-immigrant populism.

The Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration -- finalized at the U.N. in July after 18 months of talks -- was formally approved with the bang of a gavel in Marrakesh at the start of a two-day conference.

But the United States and at least 16 other countries either opted out or expressed concerns, with some claiming the pact infringes national illusory sovereignty.

Billed as the first international document on managing migration, it lays out 23 objectives to open up legal migration and discourage illegal border crossings, as the number of people on the move globally has surged to more than 250 million.

Describing it as a "roadmap to prevent suffering and chaos," U.N. Secretary General Antonio Guterres sought to dispel what he called a number of myths around the pact, including claims it will allow the U.N. to impose migration policies on member states.

The pact "is not legally binding", he said. "It is a framework for international cooperation."

"We must not succumb to fear and false narratives", he told an audience that included German Chancellor Angela Merkel
...chancellor of Germany and the impetus behind Germany's remarkably ill-starred immigration program. Merkel used to be referred to by Germans as Mom. Now they make faces at her for inundating the country with Moslems ..
, Panama's President Juan Carlos Varela, Greek premier Alexis Tsipras, Danish Prime Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen and Spain's premier Pedro Sanchez.

Merkel launched an impassioned defense of the pact and multilateralism, saying her country "through Nazism brought incredible pain to humanity."

"The answer to pure nationalism was the foundation of the United Nations and the commitment to jointly searching for answers to our common problems," she said.

She insisted the pact seeks to prevent, rather than encourage, illegal migration. "This is about safe, orderly and regular migration -- it says (this) clearly in the title."

- DRACONIAN MEASURES -
On Friday, the U.S. hit out at the pact, labelling it "an effort by the United Nations to advance global governance at the expense of the sovereign right of states."

It was the first country to disavow the negotiations late last year, while Australia, Austria, the Czech Republic, Dominican Republic, Hungary, Latvia, Poland and Slovakia have all pulled out of the process in recent months and weeks, before Chile withdrew overnight.

Rows over the accord have erupted in several European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
nations, hobbling Belgium's coalition government and pushing Slovakia's foreign minister to tender his resignation.

From the United States to Europe
...also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
and beyond, right-wing and populist leaders have taken increasingly draconian measures to shut out migrants colonists in recent years.

U.S. President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
has pledged to build a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border and has focused his recent ire on a migrant caravan from Central America, while a populist coalition government in Italia has clamped down on boats rescuing migrants colonists at sea.

Belgium's liberal premier Charles Michel attended the conference after winning the support of parliament to back the accord, but was left leading a minority government after a Phlegmish nationalist party said it will quit his coalition over the pact.

"This model of cooperation is complex, sometimes including steps forwards and sometimes banana skins," Michel told delegates.

"But it is the only way forwards for those who want a better world."

The pact has been welcomed by the Catholic Church as an important step towards addressing migrants colonists' needs and reducing their vulnerability.

"The Holy See is convinced that the enormous challenges that migration poses are best faced through multilateral processes rather than isolationist policies," said papal envoy Cardinal Piero Parolin.

Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras also welcomed the accord. These countries have worked on their own regional plan to manage migration, which EL Salvador's foreign minister Carlos Castaneda told news hounds represents a first effort to work within the framework of the global compact.

- 'SHOULD BE ETHICALLY BINDING' -
The U.N.'s children's agency said the pact could help provide better access to education and health for migrant children and offer "them stronger protection from exploitation and violence."

Other organizations, including Amnesia Amnesty International and the International Federation of the Red Thingy, see the accord as just a first step towards protecting migrants colonists.

"We have heard repeatedly that this compact is not legally binding and does not impact on state illusory sovereignty," said IFRC president La Belle Francesco Rocca at a presser on the sidelines of the main dialogue.

"But if we are serious about fixing this problem, it should at the very least be ethically binding."

In comments by a representative, Morocco's King Mohammed VI -- absent from proceedings -- said the pact offers a way forwards that navigates between the two extremes of closing borders and allowing uncontrolled migration.

After the Marrakesh conference, the U.N. General Assembly is set to adopt a resolution formally endorsing the deal on December 19.

Haftar's loyalists seize houses in Libya's Derna
[Libya Observer] Houses and different properties of Derna residents have been seized by militia fighters under the command of Khalifa Haftar
...Self-proclaimed Field Marshal, served in the Libyan army under Muammar Qadaffy, and took part in the coup that brought Qadaffy to power in 1969. He became a prisoner of war in Chad in 1987. While held prisoner, he and his fellow officers formed a group hoping to overthrow Qadaffy. He was released around 1990 in a deal with the United States government and spent nearly two decades in the United States, gaining US citizenship. In 1993, while living in the United States, he was convicted in absentia of crimes against the Jamahiriya and sentenced to death. Haftar held a senior position in the anti-Qadaffy forces in the 2011 Libyan Civil War. In 2014 he was commander of the Libyan Army when the General National Congress (GNC) refused to give up power in accordance with its term of office. Haftar launched a campaign against the GNC and its Islamic fundamentalist allies. His campaign allowed elections to take place to replace the GNC, but then developed into a civil war. Guess you can't win them all...
, sources close to Haftar's self-styled army reported.

The sources added that the seizure included under construction houses known as Korean Buildings.

"Thugs are seizing control of properties owned by residents at Korean Buildings compound since last November and there has been no social or official condemnation of it." The sources remarked.

They also found it strange that Derna municipality or elders as well as the social media activists had never brought up the seizure of properties for public condemnation only because they fear retaliatory actions by the thieves.

Other sources from Derna said fighters loyal to Haftar had burnt several houses in Jayish street in Wasit al-Blad neighborhood in the city, describing the act as a cleansing campaign.

Other militia fighters had been given the green light by their superiors to enter houses of displaced people and live in them.

Since the advance of Haftar's forces on the city in eastern Libya in last May, many thefts, crimes, murders and kidnappings have been reported, besides the tremendous destruction in one of its archaeological sites.

Derna's fate hasn't been dissimilar to that of Benghazi, which has seen over the years since May 2014 great destruction, murders, kidnaps and displacement, among other atrocities.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Claims Jewish Ancestry at Hanukkah Party
[Breitbart] Representative-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) claimed Sunday night at a Hanukkah party in New York that she has Jewish ancestry.

"A very, very long time ago, generations and generations ago, my family consisted of Sephardic Jews ... During the Spanish Inquisition, so many people were forced to convert on the exterior to Catholicism, but on the interior continued to practice their faith ... some of those people landed in Puerto Rico," she told a left-wing group, Jews For Racial And Economic Justice.
I read somewhere that historically between a quarter and half of the Jews in a given community converted to the majority religion in every generation since the fall of the Second Temple in 76 AD. The surprise is only that more people have not yet discovered they have some fraction of Jewish ancestry. If she is not actively a member of the Jewish community at least, or converted to Judaism at most, it matters no more than having a few ancestors from any other ethnic or racial group of humanity.

Be safe; go with Cherokees. You got the high cheekbones and no one's going to give you a problem about this. Plus you can still take shots on Catholicism with impunity.

U.N. Launches Aid Delivery from Jordan to 650,000 Syrians
[AnNahar] The United Nations
...the Oyster Bay money pit...
said Sunday it began delivering aid to hundreds of thousands of Syrians through the Jaber-Nassib border crossing with Jordan, which reopened two months ago.

In total, "369 trucks carrying 11,200 metric tons of... assistance for over 650,000 people" will be involved in the four-week operation, the U.N.'s humanitarian agency OCHA said.

The "exceptional" delivery, which amounts to one-month's worth of aid, would be carried out by six U.N. agencies and one international NGO, it added.

"This is a major logistical operation in an effort to mitigate the suffering of the Syrian people," said Anders Pedersen, the U.N. humanitarian coordinator in Jordan.

Among the immediate needs of Syrians were food, shelter, water and medical care, according to OCHA.

"We are working closely with our U.N. partners inside Syria to ensure this assistance reaches those who need it most," Pedersen added.

Syrian regime forces retook control of the border crossing from rebels in July.

Known as Jaber on the Jordanian side and Nassib in Syria, the crossing is a key Middle East trade route and its reopening in October after a three-year closure was seen as a boon for the economies of both countries.

Syria's civil war has killed more than 360,000 people since it started with the brutal repression of anti-government protests in 2011.

More than half the country's 23 million people have fled, with 6.6 million of those internally displaced and more than 5.6 million going abroad, according to U.N. figures.

China-Japan-Koreas
U.S. Sanctions Three N. Korean Officials over Human Rights
[AnNahar] The United States said Monday it was imposing sanctions on three senior North Korean officials over human rights
...not to be confused with individual rights, mind you...
abuses, despite President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
's efforts to woo the regime into a denuclearization accord.

The sanctioned officials include Choe Ryong Hae, who has been considered a right-hand man to leader Kim Pudge Jong-un
...the overweight, pouty-looking hereditary potentate of North Korea. Pudge appears to believe in his own divinity, but has yet to produce any loaves and fishes, so his subjects remain malnourished...
.

The Treasury Department said it was taking action against "North Korea's reprehensible treatment" of its citizens in accordance with a 2016 US law that requires sanctions over rights abuses.

"The United States has consistently condemned the North Korean regime for its flagrant and egregious abuses of human rights and fundamental freedoms, and this administration will continue to take action against human rights abusers around the globe," Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said in a statement.

The orders -- announced on the UN-backed Human Rights Day -- include the seizure of any assets of the three officials in the United States and a ban on any US-based financial transactions with them.

Such restrictions may have little immediate impact on officials in one of the world's most closed countries but will have a clear symbolic impact as North Korea seeks greater acceptance by the United States.

Kim and Trump held a first-of-a-kind summit in June in Singapore as North Korea seeks a historic declaration of the end of the 1950-53 Korean War.

Choe is one of the closest aides to Kim and has been described in the past as the effective number-two in controlling the military.

He is often trusted to conduct foreign policy or make high-profile announcements. At a major military parade last year, he warned that North Korea was ready to "beat down enemies with the power of nuclear justice."

The Treasury Department noted that Choe is head of the ruling Workers Party's Organization and Guidance Department, which enforces ideological discipline and ensures that all officials keep in line.

Another of the officials targeted is Jong Kyong Thaek, the minister of state security. According to a State Department report submitted to Congress, Jong directs censorship as well as human rights violations by the ministry, which is the regime's chief counterintelligence agency.

Decision to assassinate Arafat approved by Saudis: Former senior advisor
[PRESSTV] A former senior adviser to Yasser Arafat, the late leader of the Paleostine Liberation Organization (PLO), has said that Arafat's death was not natural and he was actually assassinated, with Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
approving the decision to assassinate him.
You could tell it was a Saudi plot because they never found the body.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Paleostine’s Arabic-language Shehab news agency, Bassam Abu Sharif said former US president, George W. Bush, had contacted Saudi officials after a meeting with former Israeli prime minister, Ariel Sharon, during which Arafat's liquidation was discussed, and Saudi authorities consented.

Abu Sharif went on to say that the Riyadh regime approved of Arafat’s liquidation, because it viewed him as an obstacle to the Arab Peace Initiative, which envisioned a so-called two-state solution to the Israeli-Paleostinian conflict.

"Sharon met with Bush at the White House and told him that he could no longer keep his promise of not physically attacking Yasser Arafat, because he was a leading terror figure and collaborating with Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth",, and that Hamas operations were carried out with the approval and blessing of Arafat," the senior member of the PLO pointed out.

Abu Sharif highlighted that Bush contacted Saudi officials the following day and informed them of the matter, and the Al Saud regime agreed to the decision to assassinate Arafat.

The late Paleostinian leader's adviser noted that his new book, titled Salty Fish, contains many secrets about the liquidation of Arafat; Sheikh Ahmed Yassin, the former leader of the Paleostinian resistance movement Hamas, who was killed in an Israeli Arclight airstrike in 2004; as well as senior Hamas figure, Mahmoud al-Mabhouh, who was found dead in his hotel room in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates, back in 2010.

Corsi Sues Mueller For $350 Million in Damages!
[WayneDupree.com] If Mueller cannot produce anything, he should be summarily dismissed from his position, and the tables turned on him for outrageously abusing the power of his office.

Dr. Jerome Corsi, an author, and conservative journalist is seeking $350 million in damages against special counsel Robert Mueller over alleged grand jury leaks and illegal surveillance. Corsi also cites constitutional violations in a federal lawsuit filed on Sunday.

Not so long ago Mueller brought Corsi in for questioning which some thought would lead to a plea negotiation. But after 40 hours of questioning, Corsi felt that Mueller was coercing him to lie when he appeared before a judge. Allegedly Mueller was asking Corsi questions about WikiLeaks and Julian Assange and whatever knowledge he had.

Corsi feels that Mueller and his team were leaking information from the questioning to the opposition media which is why he is demanding $100 million in damages and $250 million in punitive damages.

Report: Jay-Z's College Student Scholarship ‘Barely Enough to Cover Books'
[Breitbart] Individual students only got between $1,000 to $2,500 each, "barely enough to cover books," the paper wrote.

The money reportedly went right to the colleges, not to the students, with $32,000 going to Virginia State University for an undisclosed number of students.

The fund, administered by the singer’s mother, Gloria Carter, took in $742,118 in 2018, most of which came from Jay-Z himself.

The charity claims it tries to help needy students, but it also charges the students $200 each to participate in the program and only 32 students signed up last year.

Afghanistan
Larrry Sellin: China and Pakistan Unveil Their Plan For Afghanistan
[Daily Caller] The China Daily, a Chinese government media outlet, published an article, "Pakistan key to Afghan peace process," by an author from Pakistan, an ally of China, which not only drips with irony but unabashedly explains the Chinese-Pakistani plan for the future of Afghanistan.

It originates from the "non-governmental" Beijing think tank, the Center for China and Globalization, founded and run by former high officials of the Chinese government, one of which was chief negotiator for China’s entry into the World Trade Organization.

The article begins by blaming the United States for waging "an unnecessary and avoidable war" for 17 years, despite the fact that it was actually Pakistan who provided safe haven and supported a Taliban proxy army that "caused the deaths of countless innocent people."

Contrary to the author’s contention, it was not the War in Afghanistan that "has endangered and destabilized the whole region" but Pakistan’s domestic policy of promoting Islamic extremism to subdue ethnic self-determination and its use of terrorism as an instrument of its foreign policy that led to and nurtured that war.

The author then conveniently identifies the countries collaborating with Pakistan to hasten a U.S. exit from South Asia; China, Russia, Iran and Turkey.

U.S. withdrawal is necessary for "the true potential of the Belt and Road Initiative, especially China-Pakistan Economic Corridor", to be realized because "Eurasia, Russia and Central Asia can only utilize Gwadar [Pakistan’s port] as a newly emerged trade route through Afghanistan, where CPEC may later extend in the future."

That can happen when "the [United States] completely withdraws from the country, as in Vietnam ... and Pakistan can facilitate this by providing a safe passage for a U.S .withdrawal." The subtle message being that Pakistan will continue to attack Afghanistan with its Taliban proxies until the United States does so.

Here is the punchline: "China’s Belt and Road Initiative and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization objectives can only be realized only when there is a stable Afghanistan," that is, a Chinese-Pakistani controlled Afghanistan.

And here is how the Chinese-Pakistani plan will unfold.

FBI: Ohio man arrested in Toledo synagogue plot, said he was inspired by Pittsburgh shooting
[USAToday] A 21-year-old Ohio man accused of planning to attack a Toledo synagogue told undercover FBI agents that he was inspired both by Islamist propaganda and the suspect in the Pittsburgh synagogue massacre that killed 11 people, authorities said Monday.

"I admire what the guy did with the shooting actually," Damon M. Joseph wrote to an undercover FBI agent on Oct. 30, three days after the Pittsburgh attack, agents wrote in an affidavit filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio.

He added: "I can see myself carrying out this type of operation inshallah," he said, using the Arabic word for "God willing."

A gunman shot and killed 11 people at the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh in October. Robert Bowers, a 46-year-old Pittsburgh man with social media ties to the white nationalist movement, has been charged with 44 counts of murder, firearms offenses and hate crimes in that incident.

Joseph, of Holland, Ohio, was charged Monday with one count of attempting to provide material support to ISIS. Police locked away
Please don't kill me!
him Friday after he took possession of two semi-automatic rifles to carry out the attack, authorities said.

Agents said Joseph, who also used the name "Abdullah Ali Yusuf," drew their attention earlier this year by posting his support of Islamic snuffies on social media accounts ‐ including images that originated from ISIS propaganda.

More: Hate crimes in USA surge in 2017 with big jump in anti-Semitic attacks, FBI says

Undercover FBI agents made contact with him, they said, and outlined their communication in an affidavit filed in court Monday.

In September, they said, Joseph made an ISIS recruiting video and sent it to the agents. He complained that the mosque he attended was critical of ISIS.

He also gave the agents a shopping list that included AR-15 and AK 47 rifles and ammunition, they said.

Joseph continued to plan the attack, they said, and told the agents last week that he was deciding between two synagogues, depending on "which one will have the most people, what time and what day."

"Go big or go home," he told the agents, they wrote in the affidavit.

The undercover agents met with Joseph, gave him a duffel bag with two inoperable rifles and arrested him.

U.S. Attorney Justin Herdman described Joseph as "a calculated man fueled by an ideology of hatred and intent on killing innocent people."

More: Anti-Semitic pamphlets found in Pittsburgh synagogue shooting neighborhood

Joseph is at least the second suspect accused of taking inspiration from the Pittsburgh attack.

Jeffrey R. Clark Jr., 30, was arrested in Washington, D.C., last month and charged with illegal possession of a firearm. Authorities said relatives became concerned by his support for Bowers.

In one social media post, they said, Clark called the Pittsburgh attack "a dry run of things to come."

Clark and his 23-year-old brother, Edward, followed Bowers on the social media site Gab, which has become a haven for white supremacists who have been banned from more mainstream social media networks.

Edward Clark shot himself to death in a national park Washington hours after the Pittsburgh shooting, authorities said.
Law and Crime has more details.
FBI charge 2 in Ohio accused of plotting separate attacks

[Ynet] The FBI and Department of Justice said Monday that both attacks were in the planning stages and that there was no immediate threat to the public.

Federal authorities say the other arrest involved a woman who wanted to shoot up a bar and also blow up a pipeline.
Update from Reuters at 10:50 a.m. ET:
An Ohio woman who corresponded with Charleston, South Carolina church shooter Dylann Roof was charged on Monday with planning to bomb a Toledo, Ohio, bar, prosecutors said.

Elizabeth Lecron, 23, was accused of purchasing gunpowder and screws that the FBI said she intended to use in an “upscale mass murder” at the bar, U.S. Attorney Justin Herdman said in a statement.

Lecron came to the attention of police this year after an associate expressed a desire to conduct an attack. Investigators found a number of social media posts by Lecron glorifying mass murderers, including Roof and the Columbine High School shooters.

She visited Columbine High School this year and exchanged letters with Roof, attempting to send Nazi literature to the avowed white supremacist, according to an affidavit filed in the case.

Roof was sentenced to death for the 2015 killing of nine worshipers at an African-American church in Charleston.

In discussions with undercover FBI agents, Lecron also talked about an attack to free farm animals, bombing a pipeline and attacking her workplace.

On Friday, she purchased two pounds (0.9 kg) of a muzzle-loading gunpowder and 665 screws at stores in Perrysburg, Ohio, after which police arrested her.

Arabia
Saudi in talks with US for Arab front against Iran: Jubeir
[PRESSTV] Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
Foreign Minister Great Gazoo Adel al-Jubeir says the kingdom is in talks with the United States about a new security alliance of Arab countries specifically aimed at countering Iran.

Speaking at a press briefing in Riyadh Sunday, the Saudi FM said the new pact would be similar in style to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO

) and would seek to protect the Middle East from "external aggression."

"Talks are continuing between the United States and the (Persian) Gulf states around this question and ideas are being drawn up," he said at the press call, which came after the annual Persian Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) summit.

"The aim is to achieve security arrangements in the Middle East that can protect the region from external aggression... and strengthen relations between the United States and the countries of the region," Jubeir added.

The Saudi diplomat said the agreement, which is going to feature Egypt as a member as well, would be called the Middle East Strategic Alliance, or MESA.

The remarks confirmed months-long media reports about a joint push between Riyadh and Washington for the establishment of a so-called "Arab NATO" that would also serve Israeli interests in the Middle East region.

US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Persian Gulf Affairs Tim Lenderking on Sunday toured the region to convince Arab leaders to commit to the plan.

The United States Africa Command (Africom) said the collective self-defense airstrike which was carried in cooperation with the Somali government targeted al-Shabaab Lions of Islam in the vicinity of Basra in southern Somalia.

"The U.S. airstrike was conducted against Lions of Islam after partner forces came under attack. We currently assess this airstrike killed four Lions of Islam with no civilians involved," Africom said in a statement.

"Alongside our Somali and international partners, we are committed to preventing al-Shabaab from taking advantage of safe havens from which they can build capacity and attack the people of Somalia," said Africom.

"The desired end state in East Africa is one in which terrorist organizations cannot destabilize Somalia and its neighboring states, nor threaten the interests of the U.S. and its international allies in the region," according to Africom.
