WHY DONALD TRUMP
h/t Gates of Vienna
...A while before the present Trump hysteria, I visited a synagogue in Hamburg. Here the Germans upped the ante, surrounding the area with armoured personnel carriers and police carrying automatic weapons. An isolated event? No, I was told it's like that each Saturday. A few miles to the west in neighboring Holland, a friend involved in security matters told me what few outsiders know: synagogues are being closed up and shuttered.

"So where are the Jews disappearing to?" was my obvious response.
"They're conducting their services underground in private homes", came my friend's ominous message.

Everywhere in Europe, Jews who normally wear head covering identifying themselves as orthodox Jews, have been instructed by communal leaders to stop doing so. Whether it be East London, the Paris underground, or any major skandinavian city, Jews are under attack. And while Donald Trump was still making high-end ties, this has been going on for years.

...The world is ablaze. The long-kives are drawn. The entire European continent is drowning in rapes, assaults, and cultural and physical invasion. Nowhere are people allowed to speak freely about a danger that threatens their very existence. Freedom of speech has gone the way of civility. Instead of security and protection of borders, we get more bilge by the politicos in bed with the Muslim Brotherhood, a recognized terrorist organization. While the destruction goes unabated, law-abiding, overtaxed citizens are branded with the race card for suggesting maintaining their culture, language, and borders. In an upside down world, Egypt, the most populous muslim country in the world has outlawed the Muslim Brotherhood, while here at home they are hobnobbing with Obama in the Oval Office

...For the first time in recent memory, the US is poised to elect a man that the world may fear and respect. Donald Trump may not be a Reagan, but he will certainly give pause to enemies and haters of America. I have no doubt that the jihadist world will have much re-calculating to do, navigating away from the cozy relationship they've enjoyed with Hussein Obama. The rest of the world will look at America differently before the the finest military was purged of its patriots and real fighting leadership. Making America great again requires that our enemies fear us, and our friends can count on us. This, more than anything, is the meaning of the Trump campaign.

#1  As much as I prefer Cruz, this post makes a strong point. Don't know if the "Lyin' Ted" thing can be buried to the point that a Trump/Cruz ticket could become a reality.

#3  For the first time in recent memory, the US is poised to elect a man that the world may fear and respect.

Tough talk doesn't automatically engender fear. In fact, reactionary bluster is often a tell of self-doubt. Not unlike Obama, Trump may be diagnosed as a clinical narcicisist. And like Obama this affliction makes him highly predictable. There's also no indication that allies, adversaries, nor enemies would respect Trump. Most indications would point to the opposite. And to authors's main point; Trump is on record saying he would approach the Isrealies and Palistinians on equal footing. That's not exactly an example of "our friends can count on us".

People should not let the left make this all about personality and instead focus who gets results. The RIGHT results.

Rush: GOP Establishment Will 'Make the Nominee' if Race Goes to Open Convention
[The Blaze] Conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh predicted that the Republican establishment would select former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush if the contest goes to an open convention.

"It’s abundantly clear that the Republican establishment, all these reports we’ve had prior to today about them being in panic have not even gotten close to reality," Limbaugh said on his radio program. "The panic is real today. They are acting as though their own very future is at stake today."

Limbaugh argued that Ohio Gov. John Kasich "doesn’t have a prayer of becoming the nominee."

"If John Kasich thinks he’s gonna become the nominee in a contested convention, he’s got another thing coming," he said.

The radio host, instead, offered a different name if the nomination is determined in Cleveland.

"If it gets to that point, can I tell you who I think they’re gonna make president, or make the nominee, if all this happens, as they want it to?" he asked.

He added, "[I]f they succeed in this, if they sucked in denying Trump or Ted Cruz 1,237 delegates by the end of the primary process, I’m here to tell you Jeb Bush is gonna be the nominee. That’s what they’re gonna do. That’s what they’ve always wanted."

#1  As much as I believe Trump to be the biggest fraud , and that after looking at his record and the facts, you'd have to be an utter idiot to vote for him...

If the GOP establishment does this, the party will detonate. Its already well on the way to being dead, this will blow up the corpse.

Come to think of it, this is the pefect metphor for what the Trump voters are doing, and the GOP e is attempting to do...

#4  An additional thought... Do they think they can really get away with this? I regard Trump as a authoritarian populist ass, but probably not evil at heart, just a narcissist like Obama who has harnessed anger of a group of unthinking people, and is riding it to power. More like Mussolini, not Hitler.

But this attempt at subverting a broken but still semi-democratic process? This is purely evil if they try to subvert the process because they didnt like the results. These are the acts of people more akin to a Lenin, or Stalin.

Talk about inciting violence? The GOPe will be kicking the hornets nest if they try this.

#5  No Dale, you poor deluded idiot. More people in the GOP voted for someone else, not Trump, Thats not a majority oif the GOP, much less a majority of voters.

This disaster is on you. I just wonder if you are so thick that you will continue to delude yourself after this all blows up in your face. You are the Obamabots of 2016. I and others will not let you forget this.

#6  I wonder if we aren't approaching a point where things will demand a possibly violent revolution to fix them - not because of the people, but that the leadership is so distanced that they believe themselves immune to the changes they are causing - leaving violence as the only answer. And that is a really frightening point if you have seen what real wars look like. I have. Thats why I am fighting so hard to stop this one short of violence. Edmund Burke's condemnation of passivity stings those who sit idly by. So unlike others who so blithely give up and stand on the sidelines, I have been out working with a campaign, and trying to jolt people online to wake them up.

It hasnt worked. The temper tantrum continues. If this is what America has become, then perhaps its inevitable that the USA will fail. But not due to my standing idly by. I suggest you consider what the cost of inactivity is, and what your personal integrity, if you have any, demands of you.

So for me, Im all in on Cruz, even though its highly unlikely he can derail Trump, only deny him a first ballot win at the Convention.

And before the accusations start flying, Perry was my first choice. I liked Carson but he was weak on 2nd Amendment and foreign policy - and has turned out to be a sellout. I would have been a Rubio guy, but he sold out to the Gang of 8 and never tried to apologize or make amends, to that's what killed his candidacy for me and many others. Bush, Kasich, that lard-ass from NJ, they are all non-starters, establishment puppets.

So Cruz it is, even though Trump likely will wrap this up in a few weeks.

Sorry chief, but that's where we're at. The Left (Dems, RINO's and oligarchs) will have to be removed by force. We are in my mind at the point of arrival at the last box. Let the festivities begin.

#12  The Trunk Establishment has been comfortable making the party Donk Lite. After handing them the House and Senate, their unsaid motto to their base has been - enjoy it, just lay back and take it, or from another cultural meme - you f****d up, you trusted us.

This is no longer conservatives vs liberals or socialist, this is not Trunks vs Donks (how can you tell the difference in too many cases anyway), no, these are the factions of Rome. Factions are headed by leaders, patrons, protectors because their follows have been stripped of the old protections of law. The is no law but power. The Left has succeeded in dividing, but may well be alarmed at the consequences when all their special interests can't generate enough power as the factions they've created in opposition.

Posted by: g(r)omgoru || 03/16/2016 10:17 Comments || Top||

#14  The Republican establishment is of the belief that Trump cannot beat the Democrats (I suspect that is true), so they want to try any trick they can to replace him. They delude themselves if they think any of the recognized names like Bush or Romney would come any closer than Trump. And sadly, I'm sure they can't/wouldn't try to come up with a generally acceptable replacement who could win (if so, they should have run him in the primaries.) I have no problem with an open convention - negotiate a nominee if the voters don't select one by majority - plurality isn't good enough.

#16  At this point probably no one will have a majority of delegates at the convention. That means no one is entitled to the nomination. Will the establishment try to steal it? Of course. So will Trump and everyone else. Should be interesting.

#17  And don't miss this Drudge link either - Republicans Are Addicted to Increasing Federal Spending

It's the Beltway Party. \

Just think of Donald Trump as a Corporate Raider. The old management has mucked up the company, lived off its revenue, and handed out favors to friends and family at the expense of the stock holders. By doing so, they have so devalued the stock that holders are seeking someone else to take over the mess. Yep, they're betting that value might actually come back to their holdings. Cause with the current entrenched management, their holdings are worthless. (see GM stockholders at the bailout). Not worth the paper it's printed on.
Posted by: Procopius2k || 03/16/2016 10:59 Comments || Top||

#18  Even if Trump does get the 'clinch' number of delegates I would expect some late rule-changing (perhaps adding super-delegates) from the GOP leadership. They do not want Trump as the nominee and don't really care that it would doom getting the Presidency (which would be a win for them as well - they would rather have Hillary or Sanders over Trump).
Posted by: CrazyFool || 03/16/2016 11:02 Comments || Top||

#19  The only ethical option is a massive push for Cruz in the primaries that remain. As stupid as a Trump win may sound, its preferred to selling out what remains of our soul to steal an election from him should he rightfully win it.
Posted by: Crusader || 03/16/2016 11:30 Comments || Top||

#20  Ethical, Crusader? You use ethical as something the GOPe might actually care about?

SMH that there are such rose colored glasses still in use.

I'm a Cruz guy now but have been closely watching politics since Barry Goldwater and the GOP of the post-Reagan era have drained me of any illusions that ethics, principles or morality have anything to do with it. The GOP is just one subdivision of the statist, beltway elite party.

If Trump is elected he has as good a chance of blowing up DC as anyone. And, no, I don't think he would.

Peak cynicism is all I got left.
Posted by: AlanC || 03/16/2016 11:42 Comments || Top||

#21  The GOP knuckleheads violate their own rules. Specifically 40B:
Eachcandidate for nomination for President of the United States and Vice President of the United States Shall demonstrate the support of the majority of the delegates from each of (8) or more states, severally, prior to the presentation of the name of the candidate for nomination.

Then the GOP deserves to lose everything. No candidate except Trump will have 8 or more state victories
Posted by: airandee || 03/16/2016 11:45 Comments || Top||

#22  The solution is for Trump to give Kasich the VP nod. That's an olive branch to the GOPe. That way Trump gets Ohio, both the delegates at the convention and the electoral votes in November. Yeah, I know, Kasich is GOPe. But that's sausage for you.
Posted by: Ebbang Uluque6305 || 03/16/2016 11:48 Comments || Top||

#23  People voting for Trump to blow up Washington will be sorely disappointed. He is the epitome of crony capitalism. While he might force the eGOP leaders out of the party, the spending situation and favors will remain.

Cruz is the only real hope of somewhat reigning in our wild spending party.

A eGOP chosen candidate like Bush will guarantee they will be crushed and the party will die.
Posted by: DarthVader || 03/16/2016 11:55 Comments || Top||

#24  Darth I basically ditto your #23.

I think Trump could blow it up but I doubt he would

The forcing out of all the GOPe leaders would be a help but I think he would fit in with the proto-fascist oligarchy that runs things (see Clinton Foundation et. al.) now.
Posted by: AlanC || 03/16/2016 12:21 Comments || Top||

#25  I'm more for Cruz as well. But at least Trump knows how to make a payroll, unlike the majority of the beltway party.

#26  Darth has the truth of it. Only very rarely do individuals get elected to high office without "going native." Trump has never been elected anything (or even registered as a Republican). The safe bet is that he will go native as well.

Cruz has been there a few years without having gone native. That's rare, and worthy of support.

Well in a recent Treasury auction of note maturing in the mid 2030s they only sold %10 of the offering. One can't help but read that as the beginning of a devolution into post WW-1 Deutchmarks.

#46  Here is my take on the Trump Phenomenon®.

Trump has got on step in his campaign with the anger and fury of people that have been betrayed by the mainstream GOP establishment. Their anger at the betrayal of the GOPe toward the voters that have changed the composition of the House and Senate, and EVERY TIME the GOPe has betrayed this trust by giving the farm away to the dems and O&Co. People have had enough. Trump's bombast and outsider remarks have galvanized many of the public.

I would imagine that a lot of working dems feel the same way about the Democrat establishment. What is your choice?

  • A moonbat socialist?

  • A pathological liar and career criminal that gets a pass?

Who do you have in the republican bullpen?

  • Kasich?

  • Cruze?

  • Trump?

You have only one who is perceived as an outsider. Problem is that he is acting like a bully and not presidential.

He needs to quit attacking his opponents and to tell how he is going to downsize the power and size of government. He needs a tip from Ross Perot and have simple messages and simple visual aids to show how the government as is cannot survive---it is not sustainable.

Then he needs to offer solutions that inspire. Keep it simple, messages bite size so that they can be digested.

If he does that, he will rock the establishment and win hands down.

The worst thing the GOPe could do is to try to sabotage Trump in a backroom deal to manipulate the outcome of the convention. They do that and the anger will become fury. The GOPe will be finished.

If Hillary or Bernie gets in, the country will accelerate into bankruptcy and eventual collapse.

Regardless of Trump, Hillary, et al, this country is going headlong into a crisis. We have to face the crisis and see it through, or it will see us through. It's show time. There are not good choices. Just least awful alternatives.

UNICEF: Zimbabwe Faces Food, Malnutrition Crisis
[VOA] GENEVA--The U.N. children’s fund warned Tuesday that Zimbabwe is facing a food and malnutrition crisis brought on by thuggery fascism socialism communism all of the above an El Nino-induced drought.

UNICEF said nearly 33,000 children in the country are suffering from severe acute malnutrition and are in urgent need of therapeutic treatment.

Zimbabwe has suffered through two consecutive seasons of failed rains, with disastrous consequences for harvests and family food reserves. UNICEF said food shortages have sent hunger and malnutrition levels spiraling upward. It said livestock has been dying because water sources have dried up.
Let Bob buy food from his stash...
A recent assessment found the share of hungry families in the country had more than doubled to 37 percent in the past eight months; nearly 2.8 million people in rural Zimbabwe will need food assistance, half of them children.

Days After $500,000 US Contribution, U.N. Green Climate Fund Increases Staff by 150%
(CNSNews.com) -- The U.N. Green Climate Fund’s governing board has approved a proposal to hike the number of permanent staff at the body’s secretariat by 150 percent by the end of next year -- from the current 56 positions to 140.

The decision, made at a meeting at the GCF’s headquarters in Songdo, South Korea last week, came days after the Obama administration confirmed payment of the first $500,000 of a $3-billion, four-year pledge to the fund, whose aim is to help developing countries reduce greenhouse gas emissions and adapt to phenomena blamed on climate change.

At the board meeting, the U.S. government formalized its pledge of $3 billion, the GCF said in a statement.

Some Republican lawmakers are incensed that the administration is going ahead with the funding without specific congressional authorization, warning that the move may be illegal. The State Department says it has determined that the funding is permissible.

The 24-member GCF board agreed the staff increase is necessary as the fund gears up to meet a goal of paying out $2.5 billion to projects around the world this year. The GCF claimed its secretariat has been understaffed, overstretched, and lacks experts in areas such as clean energy.

Russian envoy reassures Israel over pullout from Syria

Israeli officials are consulting with Moscow over its unexpected decision to return home the bulk of Russian troops in Syria, possibly complicating a mechanism to coordinate military action agreed upon by the two countries last fall, officials from both governments said on Tuesday.

Russia’s military intervention in Syria last year on behalf of its embattled Alawite president, Bashar Assad, originally concerned Jerusalem, which routinely conducts covert raids into Syrian territory in order to disrupt shipments of Iranian arms and missiles to Lebanese Hezbollah. But in October, Russia and Israel agreed on methods of communicating that would allow Israel’s defense operations to continue.

Russia’s ambassador to Israel, Alexey Drobinin, said the two governments have an "ongoing dialogue" on both the military and diplomatic levels, specifically regarding Syria operations. Those channels of communication will remain open, he said.

Israel's PM's monthly salary
It is a tremendously challenging and stressful job with the fate of the Jewish people riding in the balance. And in return, the prime minister of Israel gets to take home NIS 17,645.73 a month.

For the first time since taking office, and in response to a number of inquiries, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made public on his Twitter account on Tuesday his monthly salary slip, showing that he grossed NIS 47,485.29 in February.

Of that, he paid NIS 21,572 in income tax, NIS 2,652 to the National Insurance Institute, and NIS 2,054 in health insurance. Another NIS 12,440 was deducted for use of a business car, in his case a specially outfitted armored vehicle.

Iran says it recovered information from US sailors’ devices
Of course they did.
[IsraelTimes] Iran has retrieved thousands of pages of information from devices used by US Navy sailors who were briefly detained in January, the country’s state television
... and if you can't believe state television who can you believe?
reports.

The report quotes Gen. Ali Razmjou, a naval commander in the powerful Revolutionary Guard, as saying that information filling about 13,000 pages was retrieved from laptops, GPS devices and maps.

He says the move falls within Iran’s rights under international regulations, and that the information recovered could be used in "various fields." Iranian authorities returned all the devices taken from the Americans even though it had the right to confiscate them, he says.

The Guard plans to publish a book on the incident based on international reactions and coverage of the event, Razmjou adds.

The US Navy’s Bahrain-based 5th Fleet, which is responsible for American naval forces in the Gulf, says it was aware of the report but had no immediate comment.

The sailors, nine men and one woman, were detained for less than a day in January after they drifted into Iranian waters off Farsi Island, an outpost in the middle of the Persian Gulf that has been used as a base for Revolutionary Guard speedboats since the 1980s.

Roadside Bomb Kills Three Vigilantes in NE Nigeria
[AnNahar] Three civilian vigilantes on their way to fight Boko Haram

in northeast Nigeria

were killed and seven others injured when their vehicle hit a landmine, residents told AFP on Tuesday.

The vigilantes from Chul village in Borno state were moving on Monday evening to battle Boko Haram gunnies who had stormed the neighboring village of Huyum when the accident occurred.

"We lost three of our colleagues to a roadside kaboom yesterday evening on their way to repel Boko Haram in Huyum," said Adamu Galadima, a vigilante in the town of Askira Uba.

"The vigilantes were approaching Huyum, which was under Boko Haram attack, when the front tire of their vehicle hit a bomb planted by the attackers", said Galadima, who attended the victims' funerals.

Boko Haram fighters had anticipated that soldiers from Askira or vigilantes from nearby hamlets, would use the roads and planted bombs to slow them down, said Huyum resident Peter Malgwui.

"Vigilantes from Chul heard of the attack and rushed to counter the Boko Haram gunnies when they hit the bomb, killing three and injuring seven," added Malgwui, who fled following the attack.

Boko Haram gunnies travelling in an open van attacked Huyum at about 7:30 pm (1830 GMT), firing indiscriminately and forcing residents to flee into the bush, he said.

A woman was rubbed out in the attack while a girl was shot and injured in the leg, he added.

The gunnies were believed to have come from nearby Sambisa forest, which has long been Boko Haram's enclave and base.

On June 8 last year Boko Haram killed 15 in a sweeping raid on Huyum, torching the entire farming village using petrol after looting food supplies and livestock.

Months later, residents who fled that attack began returning to the village to rebuild their homes following a series of successes by the military against Boko Haram.

Arabia
Seven on Trial in UAE on Charges of Leaking State Secrets to Hizbullah
[AnNahar] The Supreme Federal Court of Abu Dhabi has adjourned to April 18 a hearing in the case of seven suspects, including three Lebanese, accused of providing classified information to Hizbullah
...Party of God, a Leb militia inspired, founded, funded and directed by Iran. Hizbullah refers to itself as The Resistance and purports to defend Leb against Israel, with whom it has started and lost one disastrous war to date, though it did claim victory...
At a hearing held on Monday, the public prosecution told the court that the first defendant, a public official, handed one of the suspects classified information about the UAE armed forces' procurement contracts, as well as a list of names and ranks of state security officers.

The court heard that another accused, an Egyptian geologist working for a petroleum company, handed over information to the other suspects about oil production in Abu Dhabi.

She divulged names of the oil fields and provided a map that shows where these fields are located, the prosecution said.

It told the court that one of the accused obtained top secrets on the UAE's defense sector and passed it on to Iran. He allegedly took photos of the premises of the interior and foreign ministries, a military camp and state security facilities.

Another member of the network who is on trial is charged with taking photos of foreign embassies in the UAE and airports at Abu Dhabi and Dubai and handing them over to Hizbullah.

All the defendants denied the charges against them on Monday.

Authorities have enacted tougher anti-terror legislation, including harsher jail terms and have introduced the death penalty for crimes linked to religious hatred and Lion of Islam groups.

The UAE stepped up security measures since the wave of Arab Spring protests that swept the region in 2011.

On March 2, the Gulf Cooperation Council, which includes the UAE, considered Hizbullah a terrorist organization.
And this lot went to trial only two weeks later. Someone is taking the threat seriously.

Europe
Macedonia Sends Hundreds of Migrants back to Greece
[AnNahar] Some 1,500 migrants colonists who managed to cross into Macedonia, despite the border being closed to them for a week, have been sent back to Greece by Macedonian troops, officials said Tuesday.

The desperate group of men, women and kiddies had set off from an overcrowded refugee camp on the Greek side on Monday and waded thigh-deep through a river to get into Macedonia, where they were stopped by troops.

"Yesterday we had a large group of illegal migrants colonists who tried and managed to cross the border unlawfully near the village of Moin," Toni Janevski, a Macedonian army front man, told AFP.

"Without any incident or use of force, they were blocked and in the early morning hours they were returned to Greece."

Back on the Greek side, however, AFP news hounds said they had seen at least two men who appeared to have been beaten, while a Greek government source said the migrants colonists were sent back by "non-legal" crossings.

A group of around 80 journalists and activists who were detained by Macedonian police after traveling with the group were also released and allowed to return to Greece.

The migrants colonists were trying to escape a camp in Idomeni, where 14,000 or so people have been stuck in increasing squalor following a string of border closures on the European migrant route.

An AFP video journalist who was with them said the Macedonian army had allowed the migrants colonists to get as far as the village square in Moin, where they were herded together. They were all told to sit on the ground and the media were taken away first, the journalist said. A Syrian refugee told AFP that they were then divided into groups of 100.

"They put us on army trucks, took us to a location some 10 minutes from Idomeni where the fence is broken, and sent us back through there," he said.

The Macedonian police said 1,500 had managed to cross into Macedonia before being returned, and another 600 were prevented from entering.

The returns appeared to surprise the Greek authorities, who had said earlier Tuesday that some 700 refugees and migrants colonists remained stranded in Macedonia, indicating that they were ready to discuss their readmission if Macedonia asked.

"There wasn't in any case an official request for readmission from Skopje, and no return through official crossing points," said the Greek government source.

"Nearly all the refugees have come back through an unguarded location," added a local Greek police source.

Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras meanwhile denounced the "criminal" attitude of people who appeared to have orchestrated the migrants colonists' attempt to cross into Macedonia, and called on them to take note of the closure of the Balkan route. He said there had been in Idomeni "an unacceptable situation, with strangers, perhaps pretending to be volunteers" who had encouraged migrants colonists to go to Macedonia "at risk to their lives".

Greek authorities said the migrants colonists had read leaflets in Arabic which described the route across the river and warned they risked being sent back to The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
if they stayed in Greece, the ANA news agency reported.

Syrian Arrested in Sweden for War Crimes
[AnNahar] A 45-year-old Syrian man with a Swedish residency permit has been tossed in the calaboose
Book 'im, Mahmoud!
for alleged war crimes in northern Syria, officials said Tuesday.

Haisam Omar Sakhanh, was arrested on Friday and remanded in jug in Orebro, some 200 kilometers (125 miles) west of Stockholm.

He was detained on Monday night as part of an investigation into acts committed in the province of Idlib but the prosecutor gave no details of the alleged crimes.

The Swedish daily Expressen said he is suspected of having participated in the execution-style murder of seven men in Idlib in April 2012.

A video, originally published by The New York Times
...which still proudly displays Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize...
in 2013, graphically shows the execution of the men with their hands tied behind their backs. It is alleged that Sakhanh was one of the executioners.

The video, which was also posted by Expressen, shows a man suspected of being Sakhanh holding a Kalashnikov assault rifle.

The men are bent forward on the ground and at the request of a leader, they were executed.

"During war you have the right to kill in a way that you wouldn't have the right to do when you're not in war," said Kristina Lindhoff Carleson, the prosecutor handling the case, told AFP.

"Still, there are rules that must be followed according to international law. You can't just do any destructive or murderous thing."

Sakhanh was granted official residency in Sweden on October 30, 2013. Before moving to Sweden, he had lived in Milan, Italia since 2002, where he worked as an electrician, according to Italian media reports.

After the civil war in Syria broke out in 2011, Sakhanh became a leading opposition figure who actively protested against the Syrian regime's abuses, according to Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera.

In February 2012, he was arrested by Italian police after a demonstration at the Syrian embassy turned into a riot. Exiled Syrians stormed the embassy and guards were beaten, according to the newspaper.

Sakhanh was released by police after questioning and then disappeared.

[AnNahar] Turkish security forces clashed with rebels in the main city of the Kurdish-dominated southeast Tuesday, days after a deadly bombing in Ankara that the government blamed on the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK).

Fighting with rocket-launchers and automatic weapons was under way on Tuesday morning in Diyarbakir city's Baglar district, several parts of which have been put under curfew, an Agence La Belle France Presse journalist reported.

Security sources said a police officer and three "terrorists" had been killed, and around 10 civilians maimed.

The statement says Demir joined the PKK rebels, crossed into Syria and received what it called "terror training" from a PKK-linked Syrian Kurdish militia.

Brits deny Libyan deployment plans
Tripoli, 15 March 2016:

The British government has denied it is preparing to supply 1,000 troops to help protect the Government of National Accord and support an international training mission for the Libyan army.

Speculation that this was on the cards has been around for several weeks. Members of the British parliament’s defence committee visiting Tunis last week said that they had received confirmation locally. They said it was expected that British defence secretary Michael Fallon would agree the deployment with EU colleagues in Brussels this week. Their chairman Crispin Blunt demanded that the House of Commons be told about the plan before any deal was agreed.

However, a government spokesman today denied that there were any such plans. He said that the members of defence committee had been wrong on a number of counts.

“There are no plans to extend airstrikes [from Iraq and Syria] to Libya” said the spokesman, “nor are there plans to send British troops to provide security on the ground in Libya. It is therefore also wrong to suggest the defence secretary will agree any contribution this week”.

Shaboobs kidnap 3 Aid workers in Gedo region
Militants with the Al Qaeda-affiliated Al shabaab have on Tuesday abducted three humanitarian workers at a village near the town of Bardere in Somalia’s south-western Gedo region, source said on Tuesday.

The aid workers who are working for the Red Moon Shaped Thingy Crescent Societies have been kidnapped by armed Al shabaab men from Sidimo village, 50 kilometers west of Bardere town which is under Somali National Army (SNA) and AMISOM control.

A Red Moon Shaped Thingy Crescent Societies staffer who asked not to be identified disclosed the names of the abducted aid workers as Aden Abdi Aden, head of the organization’s health operation in Gedo, his deputy Abdinasir Abshir and Ali Sugulle.

“The Red Moon Shaped Thingy Crescent Societies staff have been kidnapped after the car they were travelling in came under Al shabaab attack at Sidimo area while on their way to El Wak town,” said the source.

Al shabaab did say any word about the alleged abduction against the aid workers.

said Turkey should "redefine" terrorism and faceless myrmidons so that legal action can be expanded against anyone supporting terrorism - including politicians, academics and journalists.

The three Istanbul-based academics were among a group of more than 1,000 scholars who in January signed a declaration denouncing military operations against Kurdish rebels. The declaration angered Erdogan and led to legal proceedings against some.

The three were detained for questioning earlier on Tuesday for holding a news conference last week during which they stood by the declaration.

Man Who Shot 3 Officers Had 7 Convictions, 43 Total Arrests, Police Say
[DNAINFO] The man that shot three reliably Democrat Chicago, aka The Windy City or Mobtown

Police officers following a drug investigation Monday was a gang member with a litany of felonies and other convictions to his name, police said Tuesday.

Three Chicago Police officers were treated for non-life threatening wounds after being shot by Lamar Harris, 29, on the West Side Monday night. Harris was fatally shot by the officers he attacked, police said.

Harris is documented gang member who has been convicted seven times, including five felonies and two misdemeanors, according to Chicago Police. He has been enjugged

a total of 43 times, police said.
Lamar is a little old to have only 43 total arrests. Maybe he worked as a squeegee man for a while...
His latest felony conviction came in 2012, when he was charged with aggravated, unlawful use of a weapon and resisting an officer causing injury.

The officers were on a narcotics patrol when they chased Harris into a dark gangway and were fired on in the 3700 block of West Polk Street, police said. An officer returned fire and killed the alleged shooter. But one officer was shot in the back, one in the foot and one in the chest, the latter possibly in his bullet-proof vest, the Tribune reported.

"Every day the dedicated men and women of the Chicago Police Department put themselves in danger so the rest of us can be safe," Mayor Rahm Emanuel said in a statement.

The shootings were a reminder "of the dangers that our police face, and the bravery that they routinely display as three of our officers were shot in line of duty, the mayor said, adding that the thoughts and prayers of our entire city are with the officers and their families during this difficult time."

Police released a statement just after midnight Tuesday:

"On Monday, March 14, 2016, at approximately 9:40 p.m., 11th District (Harrison) Officers were investigating possible narcotics activity on the 3700 block of W. Polk where they observed two suspicious individuals. As officers approached on foot to gather additional information, one of the subjects, a male, expeditiously departed at a goodly pace. A foot pursuit ensued during which the offender ran through a dimly lit courtyard flanked by two buildings. At some point, the offender fired shots at pursuing officers. At least one officer involved in the pursuit was able to return fire fatally striking the offender. A weapon was recovered on scene. Three officers sustained gunshot wounds and were transported to Stroger Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Nearly every NYPD cop hates Mayor de Blasio
[NYPOST] The vast majority of NYPD cops hate Mayor de Blasio, according to a police-union survey.

An overwhelming 96 percent of the 6,000 cops who responded to the poll have unfavorable opinions of Hizzoner, with 88 percent holding "very unfavorable" opinions of him, the Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association survey found.

As for specific complaints against the mayor, 97 percent said de Blasio has created an environment where criminals feel emboldened, while 95 percent said he has established an environment that is combative to police.

When asked what they liked "most" about de Blasio, 66 percent responded, "nothing."

Eight-five percent of cops gave City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito an unfavorable rating, and 96 percent are dissatisfied with the City Council in general.

Top cop Bratton, however, received higher ratings, with 66 percent of cops approving of his performance, the survey says.

Toronto attacker says ‘Allah’ told him to stab soldiers
[IsraelTimes] Police investigating if Ayanle Hassan Ali’s assault on a military recruitment office was an act of terrorism

A man who stabbed two Canadian soldiers at a military recruiting office in Toronto on Monday said he was acting on orders from "Allah," police said.

Police chief Mark Saunders told a presser, however, that suspect Ayanle Hassan Ali, 27, appears to have acted alone and that so far "there is nothing to suggest the accused is working with anyone or in concert with any organization."

The alleged assailant entered a government office building Monday afternoon and without provocation stabbed a soldier in the arm at the reception desk, then sought to wound a second soldier before he was subdued.

Neither victim was seriously maimed, police said.

Saunders said the suspect was overheard saying at the scene of the assault, "Allah told me to do this, Allah told me to kill people."

Ali was charged Tuesday with attempted murder, aggravated assault, assault with a weapon and possessing a dangerous weapon. He was scheduled to make a brief court appearance in the afternoon.

Asked if Sherlocks viewed the assault as an act of terrorism, Saunders said: "We’re looking into it."

The Toronto police have asked federal prosecutors and security agencies for help in determining if there is a link to organized bad boy movements, he said.

"The investigation’s incredibly early, there has to be a lot of analysis that has to be done so we can give a full and proper picture as to what exactly motivated this act," Saunders explained.

"At this point in time, the charges that we’ve laid are criminal," he said.

Few details were released concerning the suspect, who was born in Montreal and moved to Toronto in 2011.

Following his arrest, he was taken to a hospital for a mental evaluation.
Either a jihadi or schizophrenic? There is always the possibility he is both...

Driver killed in Berlin car bomb may have been victim of 'Mafia-style hit'
[MIRROR.CO.UK] A boom-mobile has went kaboom! in central Berlin killing the driver in what may be a Mafia-style hit.

The huge blast shook the German capital at around 8am this morning.

"Our Sherlocks believe it was an bomb that caused the vehicle to explode," said Berlin police on Twitter.

A picture posted by the force showed the wreckage of a silver Volkswagen Passat estate
...what we in America would call a station wagon...
on the street with its windows blown out and its front end smashed in.

The 43-year-old man killed in the blast was known to the police for drugs and violence offences, according to German newspaper BILD.

His car was registered to a woman in Berlin with a "Turkish-sounding" name, the paper added.

Police have ruled out terrorism and believe the "hit" is more likely linked to organised crime, it was claimed.

Residents in the western district of Charlottenburg were warned to close windows and stay indoors as investigations continued.

A short time later they were reassured the scene is safe.

Shaboobs move to new coastal villages in Puntland
GAROWE, Somalia-Senior Al Shabaab official has delivered religious sermons in the coastal village of Garmaal following a surprise thrust into Garacad on Monday afternoon, Garowe Online reports. Residents reached on phone by GO has confirmed that militants travelling in boats entered the small village on Tuesday morning.

Hundreds of fishers flock to Garmaal—a few kilometers off historic Eyl town-- for fishing activities every year.

Al Shabaab official identified as Saacid Karate called on villagers to cooperate with them, claiming that they are only spreading Islam. Al Qaeda-inspired fighters hoisted their flag in Garacad overnight, local clan elders said.

Militants vacated Garacad in the early hours of Tuesday morning, dividing themselves into groups, according to witnesses.

Locals reported that armed militias on foot took to a road and sneaked through Kulub, an area 10km away from Jariban.

“They are in motion. These men are walking and I can see boats some miles off the coast,” said, elder Ibrahim Yusuf Egal.

Puntland Vice President AbdihakinAbdullahi Haji Omar has meanwhile convened emergency security meeting at the State House to discuss latest developments including Al Shabaab’s sporadic takeovers of areas along the Indian Ocean.

Speaking to reporters afterwards, Puntland Security Minister AbdiHirsi Ali (Qarjab) blamed Somalia’s Federal Government (SFG) for fuelling Al Shabaab push in order to distract international attention from the controversial 4.5 power sharing formula. He said, the government will immediately respond to the militancy emerging afresh in Puntland.

“They [Al Shabaab militants] are afraid of us, that’s why they began withdrawing from [Garacad],” Qarjab told a group of reporters in Garowe.

Somali government officials couldn’t be reached for comments on Puntland allegations.

Around two boatloads have arrived in Garacad on Tuesday in what appears to be latest sign of growing Al Shabaab exodus towards Northeast.

Garacad is situated, 260km on the Indian Ocean side of Galkayo. It is yet unclear whether new wave of disembarking insurgents is aimed for reinforcements.

“Arrival of 600+Al Shabaab in Gara’adMudug reflects lax security policy in Puntland,” tweeted political analyst Yusuf M. Hassan, calling for Puntland government to do more in protecting the public.

Puntland has put all security apparatuses on standby in the wake of Al Shabaab seizure of Garacad and other coastal villages, senior security official told Garowe Online under customary condition of anonymity.

3 of 10 Pak terrorists neutralized
[Daily Excelsior] Security agencies have killed three of the 10 suspected Pak forces of Evil who had allegedly entered Gujarat
...where rioting seems to be a traditional passtime...
recently to carry out attacks on high-value targets.

Top official sources said the three were neutralised in a western State last Friday before they could carry out any attack in the country.

The remaining seven forces of Evil have also been zeroed in their hideouts and operation is on to neutralise them, the sources said.

As the operation is still ongoing, security agencies were not ready to give the details, the sources said.

The group, all suspected to be Pak forces of Evil belonging to LeT and JeM, had planned to attack the Somnath temple in Gujarat during Shivratri on March 7 besides other targets, they said.

Immediately after the intelligence input about the infiltration of the forces of Evil was received, the Centre had dispatched four NSG teams to Gujarat and they were put in different locations in the State.

An alert was sounded in Gujarat and all metros by Central security agencies following reports about infiltration of the terrorists.

An advisory was issued to enhance security at all strategic locations, sensitive industrial sites and religious places after intelligence inputs suggested that the forces of Evil had entered Gujarat taking the sea route.

A similar alert was also sent to Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Goa, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chandigarh.

South African court rules failure to detain Omar al-Bashir was 'disgraceful'
The South African appeal court has accused the government of “disgraceful conduct” in allowing Sudanese president Omar al-Bashir to leave the country despite an arrest warrant from the International Criminal Court (ICC).

Bashir was not arrested while attending an African Union summit in Johannesburg in 2015 as the South African government claimed he had immunity as the head of a member state. When an emergency order was obtained from the High Court during the summit ordering Bashir’s arrest, government lawyers admitted he had flown out of the country just a few hours earlier.

The government subsequently filed a plea against the arrest order at the Supreme Court of Appeal (SCA).

“The assurances that he was still in the country given to the (High) Court at the commencement and during the course of argument were false,” the SCA judges said. “It was disgraceful conduct.”

SCA ruled on Tuesday that the failure to arrest Bashir was unlawful and dismissed the government’s appeal.

South Africa is a signatory of the Hague-based ICC, which wants Bashir arrested for alleged war crimes related to the conflict in the Darfur region of Sudan.

The South African Litigation Centre (SALC) welcomed the court ruling, saying it meant Bashir must be arrested if he returned to South Africa.

“The government should seek to uphold the rule of law instead of shielding suspected war criminals and the Supreme Court of Appeal has made this clear today,” SALC director Kaajal Ramjathan-Keogh said.

The decision by South Africa not to arrest Bashir sparked international condemnation, which was met with a threat from Pretoria to withdraw its membership with the ICC.

The Sudanese leader has evaded justice since his indictment in 2009 for alleged crimes in the Darfur conflict in which 300,000 people were killed and two million forced to flee their homes.

Argies sink the Lu Yan Yuan Yu 010
[CNN] Buenos Aires Argentina's coast guard says it sank a Chinese fishing vessel that was fishing in a restricted area off the South American country's coast.

The Argentine Naval Prefecture chased and eventually sank the Lu Yan Yuan Yu 010 vessel after detecting it illegally fishing within the country's exclusive economic zone, officials said Tuesday.

First, according to a statement from the coast guard, warning shots were fired. The Chinese vessel, Argentine authorities said, responded by turning off its lights and deliberately trying to crash.

"On distinct occasions, the offending boat realized maneuvers aimed at colliding with the coast guard, putting not only its own crew at risk, but also the personnel of the coast guard," the statement said.

That's why the coast guard opened fire, Argentine officials said.

The vessel sank, and four people on board -- three crew members and the captain -- were rescued by Argentina's coast guard. Other crew members who'd been on the Chinese vessel boarded another fishing boat that had been traveling nearby, the coast guard said.

Argentina's foreign ministry and the Chinese consulate have been notified, the coast guard said.

Chinese officials did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Video posted on YouTube by the coast guard shows the Chinese boat listing to one side during the operation.

Ted Strickland Calls Hillary Clinton’s Coal Comments ‘Unartful’
[FREEBEACON] Ted Strickland, a U.S. Senate candidate in Ohio, described Hillary Clinton
... sometimes described as America's Blond Eminence and at other times as Mrs. Bill, never as Another James Baker ...
’s recent comments about coal-industry jobs as "unartful" after the former secretary of state received criticism for pledging to put coal miners and companies out of business.

While Strickland, a longtime Clinton ally, criticized the Democratic presidential candidate’s phrasing, he argued that she accurately stated that coal-industry jobs are dwindling during an interview with the Washington Free Beacon outside a polling place in Columbus, Ohio, Tuesday.

"What Hillary Clinton said, unartfully I believe, is the truth--that coal jobs are being lost, but they’re being lost for a lot of reasons," Strickland said. "They’re being lost because of mechanization, they’re being lost because natural gas is cheap and plentiful and burns cleaner, and so there are lots of reasons why coal jobs are being lost."
Former Governor Strickland has been in politics since 1976. He knows whereof he speaks.

Islamic State hackers post 'kill list' of Minnesota cops
[WashingtonTimes] A group of hackers loyal to the Islamic State terrorist group have reportedly posted a "kill list" with the names and personal details of 36 policemen in Minnesota.

The list, published by the "Caliphate Cyber Army" on the encrypted mobile app Telegram, includes full names, home addresses, email addresses and phone numbers of all the policemen, according to Vocative. The cops reportedly live in cities across Minnesota, but the majority are located in and around the Twin Cities.

Minnesota has a large population of Somali immigrants, with the Cedar Riverside community in Minneapolis housing the largest Somali community in the country. Since 2007, two dozen men from the Cedar Riverside community have left to join extremist groups.

A congressional report from last November said one in four Americans who has attempted to join the Islamic State group is from Minnesota.

This is not the first time a hacking group has released personal details of U.S. law enforcement or military personnel.
Why Minnesota? Do they hate lakes? Or (maybe) just chumming for Somali immigrants?

NC Prosecutors Want Death Penalty for Alleged Islamic State Sympathizer
North Carolina prosecutors have announced they plan to seek the death penalty for an alleged Islamic State sympathizer accused of killing his neighbor.

A court indicted Justin Sullivan, 19, in February for the death of his neighbor, 74-year-old John Bailey Clark in December 2014. Authorities arrested Sullivan in June 2015 on charges of "attempting to provide material support to a designated foreign terrorist organization, receipt of a silencer with intent to commit a felony, and possession of an unregistered silencer."

Sullivan's father turned him in.

He reportedly also planned to kill "1,000 Americans" at clubs or concerts and allegedly spoke with an undercover FBI agent about these attacks, offering to pay the agent to kill his father.

Denied. We have standards...

Russian airstrikes in Syria killed 2,000 civilians in six months
First class hand-wringing from the Guardian...
Russian airstrikes in Syria have killed about 2,000 civilians in six months of attacks on markets, hospitals, schools and homes, rights groups and observers say, warning that plans for a military drawdown may not mean an end to the deaths.

Moscow has insisted it carried out only surgical strikes on “terrorists”, but victims and fighters say bombers strayed well behind frontlines in areas far from strongholds of Islamic State or al-Qaida fighters.

Jets appear to have intentionally bombed civilian areas, in a campaign to spread fear and clear areas where government ground troops were planning to advance. Coalition airstrikes led by the US have also killed civilians, but have stricter rules of engagement.

Assembly on Monday over the formation of Zakat committees and alleged distribution of most of their funds to its workers.

During the question hour, several opposition politicians objected to the induction of JI workers in the Zakat committees as chairmen and members at district and ward levels.

The matter was raised by PPP MPA Sahibzada Sanaullah, raised objections about the distribution of Zakat, mostly among JI workers in Upper Dir district.

He said under the rules, the chairmen of Zakat committees should be financially stable persons so that irregularities in the distribution of Zakat funds could be checked but on the contrary, most of such bodies in Upper Dir were headed by the poor people affiliated with the JI.

The politician asked how such committee chairmen would distribute Zakat among other poor people when they too deserved it.

"Is there any schedule for the distribution of Zakat distribution or it is distributed to the people only during elections?"

Mr. Sanaullah alleged that the JI had handed out Zakat funds to the people during Upper and Lower Dir by-elections last year.

"They (JI) purchased votes using the Zakat money," he said.

Iran: Missile tests do not violate nuclear deal
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Tehran's recent ballistic missile tests did not violate a UN resolution and were not illegal, Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said Tuesday after being questioned on the issue by Australia.

The United Nations
...boodling on the grand scale...
Security Council met Monday at the request of the United States to discuss the missile tests that have raised the prospect of new sanctions.

But Zarif said that under Resolution 2231, adopted a few days after Iran struck a landmark nuclear deal with world powers last year, Tehran was within its rights to carry out the tests.

He said the wording of the resolution did not use obligatory terms so "Iran is not obliged by 2231".

Secondly, it covered only missiles "designed to be capable of carrying nuclear warheads", he told news hounds in Canberra.

"Since we do not have nuclear warheads and we have undertaken not to develop them, and the international community has put in place the best mechanisms money can buy in order to make sure that we do not develop nuclear weapons... we do not design any missiles to carry things we do not have," Zarif said.

"So these missiles do not fall within the purview of 2231 and they are not illegal."

Last week a US official announced that Shishani, who was referred to as ISIS’ "war minister" was believed dead in a US air strike in the Syrian town of Shaddadi.

Shishani’s real name was Tarkhan Tayumurazovich Batirashvili and he was also known as "Omar the Chechen."

He was a top commander who was posted by ISIS to Kobani during a months-long siege of the Kurdish city in northern Syria that was liberated last January by rebel groups that included the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG).

Shishani, a Georgian national, was among the most wanted ISIS leaders.

Turkey says its jets pounded PKK positions, killing 45
More on this story from yesterday.
[Rudaw] Turkish fighter jets pounded several Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) positions in northern Iraq on Monday, killing 45 holy warriors, The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
’s official Anadolu news agency reported.

"Nine F-16 and two F-4 jets carried out the raids on PKK positions in Qandil and Gara on March 14," the agency reported on Tuesday, quoting a military source as saying on Tuesday.

Gun positions, caves and shelters have reportedly been destroyed, it quoted the source as saying.

The Arclight airstrikes follow a boom-mobileing in Turkey's capital Ankara on Sunday that killed at least 37 people, and which the government blamed on the PKK.

Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said there are "almost definite findings" that of PKK involvement.

Turkish security forces claimed that one of the suspected attackers who detonated the boom-mobile was a female member of the PKK.

On Monday Turkish warplanes also bombed 18 PKK-related targets in the Kurdistan Region, mere hours after the Ankara attack, while police carried out raids in Turkey’s southeastern city of Adana, arresting 38 suspected PKK members.

Russian fighter jets 'continue Syria raids' as troops withdraw
Russian fighter jets have continued to carry out intense air raids in Syria in support of forces loyal to Bashar al-Assad after Moscow said it had begun withdrawing its forces from the country.

Syrian government forces on Tuesday advanced towards the historic city of Palmyra under “heavy Russian air cover”, according to Al-Manar – a television station belonging to Hezbollah, which is fighting alongside the Syrian president’s regime.

Palmyra was seized last summer by Islamic State, which destroyed many of the city’s monumental ruins. The renewed offensive in the area came as Russian warplanes began leaving Syria following a six-month campaign that was crucial in halting the momentum of opposition fighters and cementing Assad’s rule in the country’s western provinces.

Russia’s defence ministry said a first group of planes had taken off for home from the Hmeymim airbase near Latakia. In a series of tweets on Tuesday morning, it said aircraft would be relocated from the airbase to their home bases in Russia. State television showed footage of soldiers loading an Ilyushin-76 transport plane with equipment to be returned to Russia. An unspecified number of Su-34 fighter jets were among the first group to set off for the long-distance flight back.

“Personnel are loading equipment, logistics items and inventory into transport aviation aircraft,” the defence ministry wrote, adding that Shoigu had ordered the “main part” of the contingent in Syria to be redeployed.

On Tuesday afternoon, the first planes from Latakia landed at an airbase near Voronezh, where they were greeted by families and friends. Returning pilots were tossed in the air by celebrating crowds of comrades, with television crews on hand to capture the scenes and relay it to Russian homes as a sign of the mission’s success.

“We will carry out any command of our commander-in-chief at any point on the planet,” said an unnamed pilot interviewed on his return.

Afghanistan
Nuristan’s Duab district police chief killed in militants ambush
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The district police chief for Duab district of the restive Nuristan province was killed in turbans ambush earlier today, local officials said.

Acting provincial governor for Nuristan province Hafiz Abdul Qayum confirmed the report and said the district police chief was killed in an ambush in eastern Laghman province.

He said Enayatullah was on his way to his house when the turbans ambushed him in Alingar district, leaving the police chief dead and his driver maimed.

No group including the Talibs has so far grabbed credit behind the attack.

This comes as the Taliban led insurgency has been rampant during the recent months across the country despite efforts to end the ongoing violence through reconciliation process.

Laghman and Nuristan provinces are among the relatively volatile provinces in eastern Afghanistan where anti-government armed turbans are active in a number of its districts and often carry out insurgency activities.

The Talibs have recently attempted to carry out deadly attacks on government institutions in this province but the attack plots were foiled by the security forces.

Girl, 17, arrested with knife at West Bank junction
[IsraelTimes] Border Police had advance intelligence of planned stabbing at site which has been terror attack target

Border Police on Tuesday tossed in the calaboose

a 17-year-old Paleostinian girl with a large kitchen knife in her bag near a heavily guarded junction south of Nablus -- the site of several terror attacks during the current wave of violence which started in September.

Border Police were on alert at the Tapuah checkpoint near the junction after receiving army intelligence that a young woman had left her home in the Jenin area with the intention of carrying out an attack, a police spokesperson said.

The girl, traveling in a taxi, aroused suspicion when she said she did not have identification with her. A check revealed that she was the one named by army intelligence, police said.

The girl was arrested and taken in for questioning by security services.

#4  WICHITA, Kan. (AP) — A truck used to deliver feed to a business where cattle are fattened hit a train track and shifted it at least a foot before an Amtrak train derailed in southwest Kansas and injured at least 32 people, an investigator said Tuesday.

As bman noted, weather has been consistent, and this is a regularly used rail line (not just Amtrak) so any gradual damage or wear would have been spotted.

So guessing newbie/seasonal help or good idea fairy giving shortcuts.

Nigeria's NNPC 'failed to pay' $16bn in oil revenues
[BBC] Nigeria's state-owned oil company has failed to pay the government $16bn (£11bn) in a suspected fraud, according to an official audit.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) provided no explanation for the missing funds, the auditor general told MPs.

Oil revenue accounts for two-thirds of the government's funding.
The other reason why the soldiers were so ill-equipped that they went on strike.
President Muhammadu Buhari has promised to crack down on corruption since coming to office last May.

Compliments of the day to you.

I am Dr. (Mrs.) Mariam Abacha GCFR), wife to the late Nigerian Head of State, General Sanni Abacha. I am contacting you in confidence, and as a means of developing a cordial and fruitful business relationship.

I currently have within my reach, the sum of $16bn (sixteen billion), which I and my family intends to use for investment purposes in your country. Right now, the new civilian government has intensified their probe on this family’s financial resources; frozen all our known foreign and local accounts, revoked our oil licenses, and even detained my son (Mohammed) on alleged financial misappropriation, pending the outcome of their investigations. In view of these facts, I acted fast to withdraw the US$16bn (sixteen billion) from the company’s vault and deposited it in a privately owned security company of which I alone know of it’s existence. No record exists concerning this money traceable by the government, because there is no documentation.

Due to the current situation in the country it has become quite impossible for us to make use of this money within. I thus wish to discretely transfer this money out of Nigeria with your help, to be invested in your country (under your professional guidance). I shall expect you to contact me urgently to enable us discuss this transaction in details.

Bearing in mind that your assistance is needed to transfer this money out of Nigeria, I propose a commission of 10% (Ten percent) of the total sum to you/your company for the expected services and assistance. Your urgent response is highly needed. All correspondence must be by E-mail (MARIAM_SANNI@YAHOO.COM) only for now for security reasons, my son`s phone number will be given to you as we progress on this transaction, his name is ABBA ABACHA. I must also use this opportunity to implore you tokeep this matter extraordinarily confidential while I await your prompt response.

Best regards.

India-Pakistan
After Zarb-i-Azb
[DAWN] OPERATION Zarb-e-Azb
..the Pak offensive against Qaeda in Pakistain and the Pak Taliban in North Wazoo. The name refers to the sword of the Prophet (PTUI!)...
may have been an urgently needed military operation, but it was also obvious at the time of its launch that it would be the apogee of counter-insurgency operations in Fata. Once Zarb-e-Azb would be completed, militarily the clear-and-hold phases across all seven agencies would have little further to go. Now, the country appears to be at a stage where the military is turning its attention to what comes after clear and hold -- in fashionable counter-insurgency parlance, that should be the build-and-transfer stages. Adjusting for local realities that would mean the mass resettlement of IDPs, Fata reforms and the rehabilitation of a civilian administrative apparatus that can focus on socioeconomic needs to bolster the security that the military has provided.

Yet, as Zarb-e-Azb comes to an operational close -- with the capture of major heights and strategic passes in North Wazoo, large-scale fighting will likely end in the region -- there are several questions that need to be asked. First though, the bravery and courage of the soldiers and military personnel who risked their lives for the country’s safety and security should be warmly applauded. What, however, about the numbers of alleged gunnies killed in the final, Shawal phase of the operation so far? The figure provided by the ISPR, 207 gunnies killed, is small for an area that has proved so difficult to capture. Have many more gunnies done what they have done before in other regions ie melted away into adjoining areas? If so, where have they gone? And what is the military’s plan to progressively stamp out the last hard boy sanctuaries?

The morphing of Zarb-e-Azb from a counter-insurgency operation in Fata into a broader counter-terrorism agenda across the country ought also to be questioned. The fight against militancy was always going to be a long one and there is a great deal of interconnectedness between militancy in Fata and terrorism in the rest of Pakistain, but specific operations do need closure. The fate of North Waziristan should be clear and separate from the very different nature of counter-terrorism and intelligence-led operations that are continuing across the country. Closure also provides a relatively straightforward way to assess military claims. Rah-e-Raast (Swat), Rah-e-Nijaat (South Waziristan), Operation Thunder (Mohmand Agency
... Named for the Mohmand clan of the Sarban Pahstuns, a truculent, quarrelsome lot. In Pakistain, the Mohmands infest their eponymous Agency, metastasizing as far as the plains of Peshawar, Charsadda, and Mardan. Mohmands are also scattered throughout Pakistan in urban areas including Karachi, Lahore, and Quetta. In Afghanistan they are mainly found in Nangarhar and Kunar...
), Khyber-I and Khyber-II were each launched and eventually concluded, allowing the claims of military success to be tested against realities on the ground. Similarly, Zarb-e-Azb and its conclusion would allow Fata and its residents to turn their attention fully to reconstruction, resettlement and political reforms. For all the sacrifices made by the residents of Fata and the military, the gains are far from permanent. Fata cannot simply return to its pre-insurgency way of life. Yet, meaningful reforms and socioeconomic uplift become all the more difficult in the face of an open-ended military operation, even if just in name.

Bernie Sanders says he ran as Democrat for the media attention
[CBSNEWS] Bernie Sanders
...The only openly Socialist member of the U.S. Senate. Sanders was Representative-for-Life from Vermont until moving to the Senate for the rest of his life in 2006, assuming the seat vacated by Jim Jeffords...
on Monday night said he decided to run for president as a Democrat because of the media attention he would receive.

"Do you run as an independent? Do you run within the Democratic party? We concluded-- and I think it was absolutely the right decision, that in terms of media coverage -- you have to run within the Democratic Party," the Vermont independent said at MSNBC's Democratic town hall in Columbus, Ohio.

The senator also said that the only way he could have launched a third-party bid was if he were a billionaire.

"If you're a billionaire, you can do that. I'm not a billionaire. So the structure of American politics today is such that I thought the right ethic was to run within the Democratic party," he said.

His comments came a day before critical primaries in five states, including Illinois, Florida and Ohio.

A CBS News battleground tracker poll released on Sunday found Clinton was leading in Ohio and Florida while Sanders had a slight edge in Illinois. Clinton, meanwhile, has a large overall lead with 1,222 delegates while Sanders has picked up 565. He or she must win 2,383 delegates in order to win the nomination.

One dead after raid linked to Paris attacks
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Police found a man dead when they stormed a house in Brussels at the end of a major terror operation Tuesday, several hours after they were shot at during a raid linked to last year’s attacks in Gay Paree, a prosecutor said.

It was not clear whether the dead man was one of the suspects sought in the raid earlier Tuesday in the Forest neighborhood of Brussels, the Belgian capital where several of the Gay Paree attackers lived.

Four coppers from the French-Belgian operation were maimed when at least one suspect opened fire through the door, apparently with an assault weapon, French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve said.

Forest mayor Marc-Jean Ghyssels told local media two people had barricaded themselves in a home during the raid, but it was not clear what happened to them.

The prosecutor, who asked not to be identified because the operation was not finished, said it was not clear if suspects from the raid were on the run. He said many people fled the area when they heard gunfire, and it was too early to say if some were suspects or all were just people trying to escape.

The anti-terror raid in the Forest neighborhood was linked to the Nov. 13 gun and kabooms on a stadium, cafes and a concert hall in Gay Paree that left 130 people dead.

Yet police didn’t expect violent resistance on Tuesday, the prosecutor said. That indicated they were not targeting a major suspect like Salah Abdeslam, who fled Gay Paree and remains on the run. Most of the attackers died that night, including Abdeslam’s brother Brahim, who went kaboom!.

Four months on, Belgian police and magistrates are still piecing together the role Belgian nationals and others living here played in aiding the Gay Paree attackers.

The suspected ringleader of the attacks was a Brussels resident, Abdelhamid Abaaoud. Another attacker, Bilal Hadfi, was said to have lived for a time in the Forest neighborhood. Hadfi went kaboom! outside a stadium in Gay Paree the night of the attacks and Abaaoud was killed in a police raid in a Gay Paree suburb soon after.

On Tuesday, the Forest neighborhood was locked down for five hours after the initial burst of gunfire.

Police sealed off a wide perimeter around the area where the shots were heard to keep the many bystanders at a safe distance. A helicopter was hovering overhead to patrol the area as police were still looking for at least one suspect.

Several hundred spectators were trying to get a closer look at the operation in the multicultural neighborhood, which has a big Audi car factory nearby. Audi asked its personnel to stay at the plant while the police raid was going on.

Several hooded officers wearing body armor milled around the neighborhood and ambulances were on standby.

Belgian authorities have stepped up their counterterror efforts since a lone gunman killed four people at the Brussels Jewish museum in May 2014.

The small western European country has also been prime recruiting ground for ISIS, and officials freely acknowledge their concerns about what radicalized recruits might do after returning home from the battlefields of Syria or Iraq.

Tuesday’s raid was a reminder of the anxious days the Belgian capital lived through in November and December, when the subway and schools were closed for a time, and the New Year’s Eve fireworks display was cancelled because of the threat of Death Eater violence.

(ISIS) suicide kabooms on the Makhmour front in northern Iraq, a Peshmerga official told Rudaw.

ISIS bombers launched three suicide attacks at about 3 a.m., said the source.

"It appears that ISIS has taken advantage of the foggy weather to launch their attacks," he said.

The official also explained that "two of the jacket wallahs were killed before they detonated their payloads and the third managed to detonate his explosives, wounding four soldiers."

In earlier comments to Rudaw about the Iraqi Army base in Makhmour, Peshmerga Commander Najat Ali had warned that the location was unsafe and open to rocket attacks. Early this month, four Iraqi soldiers were killed and at least 23 maimed in an ISIS rocket attack on their base near Makhmour.

(ISIS) Lions of Islam on the frontlines in the southern Iraqi city of Kirkuk early Tuesday, a Kurdish commander told Rudaw.

"At around 5:30 six jacket wallahs attacked the Peshmerga, but their assault was foiled," said Brig. Swara Tofiq of the Peshmerga forces on the front, who said the assault was near the village of Graw.

Mam Khafa, a prominent Peshmerga commander, is among the maimed, his son told Rudaw. Another soldier is at death's door, according the Peshmerga.

Tofiq added that the Lions of Islam had taken advantage of bad weather to infiltrate the Peshmerga bunkers.

Kamal Kirkuki, commander of the western front where Kirkuk is located, confirmed that "there are casualties among the Peshmerga, but no figure is out yet." He added that "there are still sporadic fire exchanges in the village of Graw."

The frontlines south and west of Kirkuk have experienced major confrontations between ISIS and Kurdish forces in the last two years. But the Peshmerga are well prepared for such surprise attacks, said Kirkuki.

Another major suicide attack by ISIS Lions of Islam on Peshmerga defense lines south of Kirkuk was foiled Saturday morning, the frontline commander said.

On Monday, Kurdish security forces announced they had captured the culprit behind Saturday's suicide kaboom.

ISIS executes 50 for desertion in Anbar
ERBIL – Radical group of the Islamic State (ISIS) has publicly executed dozens of its own militant fighters who fled the fighting fronts with Iraqi forces.

The militants were arrested after evacuating their fighting positions in ar-Rutba and Hit districts, west of Ramadi. The ISIS fighters were detained and executed at the hands of fellow jihadis in Mosul city of Iraq’s northwestern Nineveh province, local sources reported on Tuesday.
Iraqi Army and government needs to promise protection for all IS deserters. Ship them to Mauritania...
“Daesh military leadership in Mosul considered them as traitors and beheaded them in front of hundreds of people, including jihadi commanders and Sharia officials,” an eyewitness told ARA News, using an acronym for ISIS.

“They were mostly Iraqi jihadis who fought in ISIS ranks in Anbar province,” he said, speaking on condition of anonymity.

As the Kurdish Peshmerga and Iraqi army troops extended their military operations against ISIS in the vicinity of Mosul, a state of alert prevailed in the group’s ranks in the city–which has been under the jihadis’ control for over two years and deemed a de facto capital for the ISIS self-declared Caliphate in Iraq.

“ISIS jihadi families have escaped from the districts of ar-Rutba and Hit towards central Iraq and Mosul, while many others headed to the villages on the Syrian-Iraqi border,” rights activist Muhammad Moselli told ARA News. “This comes amid constant advance by the Peshmerga and Iraqi army, and continuous airstrikes by the western coalition.”

In the meantime, the security committee of the Khalidiya District Council in Anbar announced on Monday that dozens of civilians were displaced from the Hit and the Mohammadi districts west of Ramadi.

“We expect the Iraqi army and security forces to storm the districts of ar-Rutba and Hit soon,” it said in a statement.

“The Iraqi security forces were able to open safe routes in the vicinity of Hit, transferring more than 80 families to relatively safe areas in the districts of Khalidiya and Habbaniyah,” the Committee Chairman Ibrahim Fahdawi told local reporters. “We will provide the displaced families with food and health care.”

Fahdawi pointed out that hundreds of displaced Iraqi citizens “are trying to reach the city of Ramadi” after ISIS militants fled to al-Qaim city on Syria-Iraq border.

The province of Anbar had been under ISIS control for nearly two years ago. However, the Iraqi army and security forces, supported by the U.S.-led coalition airstrikes, were able to recapture the city of Ramadi and its western countryside from the radical group, killing hundreds of jihadi militants during the battles.

Probably well over 2000 have been executed so far. In addition over 8000 ISIS troops have been killed in Syria and over 2000 in Iraq.

Truly remarkable given that they probably field no more than about 30k in Iraq and Syria combined at any one time.

Their recruitment of fighters from the region and from outside the region orders of magnitude higher than Al Q.

Religious parties denounce law protecting women from abuse as 'un-Islamic'
[DAWN] An all-parties conference convened by Jamaat-e-Islami
...The Islamic Society, founded in 1941 in Lahore by Maulana Sayyid Abul Ala Maududi, aka The Great Apostosizer. The Jamaat opposed the independence of Bangladesh but has operated an independent branch there since 1975. It maintains close ties with international Mohammedan groups such as the Moslem Brotherhood. the Taliban, and al-Qaeda. The Jamaat's objectives are the establishment of a pure Islamic state, governed by Sharia law. It is distinguished by its xenophobia, and its opposition to Westernization, capitalism, socialism, secularism, and liberalist social mores...
and attended by powerful religious groups asked the government on Tuesday to retract an "un-Islamic" law that gives unprecedented protection to female victims of violence.

The Women's Protection Act, passed by Punjab
1.) Little Orphan Annie's bodyguard
2.) A province of Pakistain ruled by one of the Sharif brothers
3.) A province of India. It is majority (60 percent) Sikh and Hindoo (37 percent), which means it has relatively few Moslem riots....

Assembly last month, gives legal protection to women from domestic, psychological and sexual violence.

It also calls for the creation of a toll-free abuse reporting hot line, women's shelters and district-level panels to investigate reports of abuse and mandates the use of GPS bracelets to keep track of offenders.

Domestic abuse, economic discrimination and acid attacks made Pakistain the world's third most dangerous country in the world for women, a 2011 Thomson Rooters Foundation expert poll showed.

But since the law's passage, many conservative holy mans and religious leaders have denounced it as being in conflict with the Holy Koran, and the Constitution.

On Tuesday, representatives of more than 35 religious parties and groups came together for a conference called by the Jamaat-e-Islami and condemned the women's protection law as un-Islamic.

"The controversial law to protect women was promulgated to accomplish the West's agenda to destroy the family system in Pakistain," read the joint declaration issued at the end of the concrescence.

"This act ... is redundant and would add to the miseries of women."

The passage of the new law was welcomed by rights groups but spirits have since dampened as conservative voices have increasingly called for its retraction.

On Monday, JUI-F chief Fazlur Rehman said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif
... served two non-consecutive terms as prime minister, heads the Pakistain Moslem League (Nawaz). Noted for his spectacular corruption, the 1998 Pak nuclear test, border war with India, and for being tossed by General Musharraf...
had promised him at a meeting that he would address the reservations of religious parties.

"Nawaz Sharif heard our reservations against the Punjab Protection of Women Against Violence Act 2016. He promised to amend the law so that it doesn't contravene the teachings of the Holy Koran," Fazl told journalists at his residence.

Earlier this month, the Council of Islamic Ideology, a religious body that advises the government on the compatibility of laws with Islam, declared the Women's Protection Act un-Islamic.

A prominent lawyer has also filed a petition in the top sharia court asking it to strike down the law.

Fighting continues around Donetsk, Gorlovka

Artillery and small arms battles continue between Russian backed rebels and Ukrainian military forces around Yasinovataya and Donetsk on Tuesday, according to Russian language news accounts.

A news report which appeared in tsensor.net.ua reported that rebel forces fired on Ukrainian forces around Avdeivka, this despite a local ceasefire agreed to by the rebels.

Tuesday, the area around the water filtration plant operated by the Ukrainians in Avdievka, was supposedly silent due to a visit from monitoring teams with the Organization for Security and Cooperation (OSCE) to survey the problems.

Eight days ago Ukrainian forces moved into a neutral zone and began to fire on rebel positions, according to rebel reports, and on checkpoints on the only road that connects Gorlovka with Donetsk city. Since that time, both sides have been battling it out, exchanging mortar, small arms fire and heavy weapons fire, including tank and infantry fighting vehicle gunfire.

Rebel forces have dug in along the junction of H20 and E50, which is just south of Gorlovka, and have vowed no to budge from their positions.

The fighting has endangered operation of the water filtering plant. Ukainians say rebels have fired on the plant, while rebel officials say the Ukrainians have been firing on the plant.

According to rebel and Ukrainian reports, the water filtering plant went back into operation just two hours before fighting was renewed in the area. The water plant services Donetsk city and other nearby communities.

Casualties are said to be heavy for both sides, except that neither side officially has admitted to casualties. On Tuesday, according to the Donetsk ministry of defense news release, two rebel soldiers were killed in fighting. That report confirms what this writer has read, and has reported from unofficial reports on Russian language blogs.

Ukrainian official reports are that two Ukrainian soldiers were wounded in the fighting as well.

Fighting along the line of contact

The latest Ukrainian media reports are that rebel have been firing mortars on Ukrainian positions mostly in southern Donetsk, near Mariupol, Shirokino and Novotroitsk. Rebel reports in the region say Urkainian forces fired on a village at Kominternovo, without stating specifically if rebel troops were in the area.

Rebel military officials said on Tuesday that Ukrainian forces have violated the ceasefire 56 times along the line of contact in Donetsk. Most of the firing was concentrated around Yasinovataya, but some reports are that Ukrainian artillery has struck rebel positions in western sectors of Donetsk city and at Spartak.

Rebel reports also say that Ukrainian artillery fire hitting positions at Yasinovataya are emanating from artillery units of the 59th Independent Motorized Rifle Brigade (MRB), the Ukrainian 93rd Brigade and the Ukrainian 56th Brigade.

Prior rebel reports were that the Ukrainian has reinforced the Ukrainian 58th MRB effort against rebel forces at Yasinovataya with a battalion from the Ukrainian 25th Airmobile Brigade, along with a six gun, 122mm artillery battery. The artillery battery, according to rebel reports was to begin hitting rebel positions on Tuesday, but may have been delayed due to the local ceasefire.

Rebel say that Ukrainian forces struck the village of Zaistevo on Tuesday using 82mm mortars. The mortar team firing was located in nearby Zhovanka, from which Ukrainian forces also fired small arms and grenades.

MoD Rejects Claims That Helmand's Khanshin District Has Collapsed
As military operations continue in parts of southern Helmand province - particularly in Khanshin district - the ministries of Interior and Defense said Tuesday the district has not fallen to the enemy and that they made a tactical retreat but now they are once again fighting militants.
"No, no, certainly not!"
"We made a tactical retreat once but the area is again under our control," said the deputy spokesman for Interior Ministry, Najibullah Danish.

Meanwhile, Defense Ministry spokesman Dawlat Waziri said Khanshin has not fallen to militants, but added that there is fighting between security forces and the Taliban in parts of the district.

"There was pressure on Khanshin [district]. We confirm that the enemy had attacked the district but our troops are there in Khanshin and the district has not fallen [to militants]," Waziri added.

The Helmand Provincial Council however claimed that the majority of the district is controlled by the Taliban.

"The security forces went one kilometer far from Qalat [district] and were stationed in Garmser [district], but Khanshin district is completely under the enemy's control," said Baryalai Nazari, a member of Helmand Provincial Council.

He said they are concerned about the security situation in parts of Helmand and that government should pay attention to this matter.

The conflict in Khanshin district started on Monday after dozens of Taliban fighters attacked the district compound.

Keeping Iran on a tight leach is their problem to manage in their back yard. The technology of Israel and Russia combined would be formidable. Many Russians live in Israel. I look for Russia to make overtures to India. That would be a masters stroke under the eyes of China.Well after all China just wants resources. Its messy dealing with people. Now if Trump inters the mix we should see a warming trend with Israel and Russia. Much more productive than the EU in many ways.

Sorman councillor gunned down
Tripoli, 15 March 2016:

A Sorman councillor has been murdered in a drive-by shooting in front of his home in the town.

Khaled Al-Bashir Al-Maghuri was gunned down yesterday as he was leaving for work. Armed men in a vehicle came up the Maseef Road to attack him.

Local journalist Mohamed Balili told this newspaper “ Maghuri worked in the municipality’s health department. He was going to his office as usual when he was targeted. The attackers disappeared. He was a busy guy and everyone liked him”.

The only explanation Balili could find for the councillor’s murder was that ever since he had taken office, he had stood out against corruption

Colleagues in the town’s health services stopped work while family and friends blocked roads in protest at his murder

Watchdog Seeks To Interview 8 State Dept. Officials, May Need To Depose Hillary
"A conservative watchdog group asked a federal judge on Tuesday for permission to depose eight current and former State Department officials about Hillary Clinton’s emails and says it may eventually need to interview the former secretary of state herself.

Judicial Watch filed a plan for a "narrowly tailored discovery" as part of its lawsuit against the State Department for failing to turn over records it requested in 2013.

The group is asking U.S. District Court judge Emmet Sullivan for permission to depose key State Department official who likely have detailed knowledge about Clinton’s off-the-books email system, which involved the use of a home-brew server.

And "based on information learned during discovery, the deposition of Mrs. Clinton may be necessary," Judicial Watch wrote in its court filing."

ISIS-set minefield kills 5 Kurd fighters
HASAKAH – At least five Kurdish YPG fighters were killed and 20 more wounded in the explosion of land-mines that had been planted by militants of the Islamic State (ISIS) before their departure from Shaddadi city in Syria’s northeastern Hasakah province, military sources reported on Tuesday.

Backed by a western air cover, Kurdish-Arab alliance of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have expelled ISIS jihadi fighters from Shaddadi in mid-February.

Since then, specialized teams from the Kurdish forces of the People’s Protection Units (YPG)–leading member in the SDF– have been searching for and dismantling land-mines and explosive devices left behind by ISIS militants.

Speaking to ARA News in Shaddadi, a YPG spokesman said: “On Tuesday evening, several land-mines exploded while our special teams were trying to dismantle them in the southern suburb of Shaddadi city.”

“The incident led to the immediate death of five of our forces and the injury of more than 20 others, some of them are in critical conditions,” the official said.

The SDF, which includes Kurdish, Arab and Christian units, had earlier liberated more than 240 towns and villages from ISIS militants on the border with Iraq.

Recapturing Shaddadi –ISIS main bastion in Hasakah province– came after the SDF units cut off a main supply route for the ISIS radical group near Syria’s northeastern border with Iraq.

Furthermore, the SDF alliance had seized control of a key gas facility and main financial resource for the Islamic State (ISIS) radical group in Syria’s northeastern Hasakah province in February. The western-backed forces regained control of the Jibisa gas facility, located about 12km east of Shaddadi city in southern Hasakah.

Afghanistan
Ghazni Districts Under Threat: MPs
Ghazni MPs on Tuesday warned that a number of districts are under severe threat and called for additional security forces to be deployed to the province.

They said Khogyani, Qarabagh, Gelan, Moqor, Abband, Andar and Gero districts are the most at risk.

"Among 13 districts of Ghazni, eight districts are facing serious threats and people in those areas cannot walk freely," said Ghazni MP Khuda Dad Arfani.

Meanwhile the Interior Ministry has confirmed the high threat level in the districts.

The ministry's deputy spokesman Najibullah Danish said that officials are assessing the situation.

"A few districts are facing threats and the ministry is investigating the forces' requirements and if needed more forces will be deployed to the province," Danish said.

The Afghan Defense Ministry (MOD) has meanwhile assured the people of Ghazni that their province will not collapse.

"We assure the people of Ghazni the province will not collapse. Every night the forces conduct several operations," said Dawlat Waziri the ministry's spokesman.

This comes amid growing concern over the increase in activity by insurgents. Reports emerged recently that residents fear insurgents are trying to establish bases in the province.

Vasco da Gama fleet ship sank near Oman in 1503
Archaeologists say they've discovered the site where a ship, which was part of Portuguese explorer Vasco da Gama's fleet, sank off the coast of modern-day Oman in 1503.

They say debris discovered off Oman's al-Hallaniyah Island includes an incredibly rare silver coin called an Indio, of which only one other is known to exist. They believe the wreckage likely comes from a ship called the Esmeralda, which sank in a violent storm in May 1503, killing all onboard.

The archaeologists announced their findings in an article published by The International Journal of Nautical Archaeology.

Ayoub al-Busaidi, the supervisor of marine archaeology at the Oman Ministry of Heritage and Culture, told The Associated Press on Tuesday that the discovery also shows the long history of his country in international trade.

The Conquerors
by Roger Crowely

Does a fine job covering this theatre at period.

As I said in the review, it was not a tickling competition.

So, when's his birthday? I feel it should be celebrated.

Militants stage attack in eastern Libya
Suspected ISIS militants staged an attack on a power and water plant about 80km from the major Sarir oil field in eastern Libya late on Monday, an oil facilities guard said.

Security forces foiled an attempted suicide car bombing by killing the driver, before engaging the attackers in clashes, the guard said. An engineer and a resident also confirmed the attack.

Any threat to the Sarir area would cause particular alarm because more than half of Libya’s remaining oil production comes from the region.

No group immediately claimed the attack, but ISIS fighters have previously targeted against oil installations in Libya, stepping up their campaign against export terminals in the east of the country at the start of this year.

As Libya’s intermittent conflict has dragged on, production has fallen to about 360,000 barrels per day, less than a quarter of its level before the fall of Muammar Qaddafi in 2011.

Militants loyal to the ISIS have exploited political chaos and a security vacuum to establish a foothold in the country. They took control of Sirte last year, and have a presence in several other towns and cities.

The group has caused extensive damage to oil infrastructure, but has not taken over facilities and profited from them as it has in Iraq.

Western powers have been searching for ways to stop ISIS’s expansion in Libya, but have been frustrated by recent delays to the formation of a UN-backed unity government.
