A Message to the Angry Leftists from an American Infantryman

[GruntWorks11b] I know you don't know me. I know you don't even think about me and when you do, it's probably not anything nice. I'm the evil hegemonically masculine patriarchal oppressor to you feminists. I'm the jackbooted statist thug to you dope smokin' long-haired hippies. I'm "The Man" to you racial activists. I'm the idiot who joined the military because I "wasn't smart enough" to go get a liberal arts degree like you know-it-all 20-year-old college dipshits; and for some reason you hate me for that. I'm that guy with the rifle who signed on the dotted line for $24K a year so that you budding Marxist fucksticks could have the freedom to complain about me and the manner in which I provide it. I have a little message for you.

I see you there, in Portland... In Chicago... In San Francisco... In Bumfuck Directional School Liberal Arts College... You're having your temper tantrums because ever since mommy dropped you off at Daycare 20 years ago you've been throwing them to get your way. Now you're super pissed about the results of a presidential election where the other guy (and the only guy in the race for that matter) won.

I'm not here to talk politics, or explain the Electoral College, or to tell you what hypocritical douchebags you are for doing the things you're doing. No. I have a much simpler conversation to have with you. See, I read what you post on Twitter, Facebook, and your various internet blogs. I see you on the news breaking things, setting fires, and assaulting people of the opposite political belief. I see you there with your fat ugly unshaven feminist women and black power slogan screaming race baiters, throwing rocks and bottles at the lines of police officers trying to keep order in your own cities. I know your rhetoric. I know all your identity politics stems from the Marxist activists and 'intellectuals' who have pushed the American left farther left than ever before. I know you believe your "progressive" views are the supreme moral authority on every single issue and somehow this perception allows you to justify your totalitarian social views and hypocritical violent outbursts. You profess to hate half this country for their alleged bigotry while carrying signs that say "Love Wins!"

I also know you're a coward.

I know this because you keep screaming, and blogging, and protesting, and even rioting... but you won't start this "uprising" you keep going on and on about. If you really believe that your cause is just, that the majority supports you, and that the United States needs to be overthrown to make way for your Progressive social utopia of sunshine and free shit... pick up a gun and start your revolution like every other communist group in history. See, I come from an organization that spent the better part of the last century training to fight a bunch of little commie heathens, and I have a pretty healthy respect for any Ivan who was willing to pick up an AK47 and parachute onto the continent ready to overthrow the USA. That takes some guts. You're not like him though. You're quite different actually. Ivan was in shape. You're a bunch of 'fat acceptance' advocates who complain airline seats are too small for your 9,000 calories per day diet. Ivan was a proud masculine man. You have drag queens and fat feminist women with green hair. Ivan grew up mining coal and hunting wolves in the Urals. You want socialism because you're upset that you can't get a 6-figure job at age 24 with the bullshit arts degree you spent all that loan money on and haven't done a day of physical labor in your life. Ivan was a veteran of Stalingrad, Afghanistan, and a dozen bush wars. You think "Call of Duty" is too violent and sexist. Ivan packed an AK47 and knew how to use it. Those among you leftists now who even have weapons ditch them after you rob the liquor store or 7/11 and go hide out at your aunt's Section 8 housing. You don't have the discipline Ivan did, at least he used the sights. Ivan killed jihadists by the thousands. You make excuses for them and want to invite them into our country.

You all have your reasons for hating America and whether or not I agree isn't even relevant. I took an oath as did all of my brothers and sisters in uniform to defend this country against all enemies foreign AND domestic. I will always protect your rights to free speech and expression through lawful and civil protest whether or not your cause is something I believe in. However, you seem to believe revolution and violence are the answer now, and that makes you a domestic enemy of the United States I protect and serve. Do it and I'll teach you how we make the fuckin' green grass grow. You keep saying you want a revolution, secession, a new Civil War and the election of "Racist/sexist/homophobic/Republican/Nazi/xenophobic/dictator/Islamophobic/rich guy asshole" Donald Trump is the catalyst for you to take action and destroy every evil you perceive this country to stand for...

Well... We're waiting. Shit or get off the pot.

#6  With all the violent tweeting and adamant expressions of "resistance", it is odd that the vanguard of the proletariat have not taken arms against this sea of troubles etc. I think the now fashionable post modern view that words do actual violence to their target has caused an odd disconnect between means and ends. Thus a tweet seems equivalent to a long burst from a .50 cal MG. The war is on but it only in dreams. One doubts they will ever find a real trigger.

Britain
BREXIT cock-up: Article 50 MUST Be Put Before Parliament, Supreme Court Rules
[Breitbart] The government must consult Parliament in order to invoke Article 50 and take Britain out of the European Union, the Supreme Court has ruled.
Yes, I know PM Wilson is lying. It's just what they do.
That means Parliament must take a vote on whether to invoke Article 50, which triggers the process to take Britain out of the EU, before Prime Minister Theresa May, can do so.

May had originally set a timetable to invoke Article 50 in March, but it remains to be seen whether that deadline will now be moved.
Skipping down to the big lie.
"This is your decision. The Government will implement what you decide." The wording suggested that the people’s decision was a direct mandate to the government.

If the oligarchy wants to retain power, it needs to be seen making Brexit happen, it seems to me.

Elections matter too much: Glenn Reynolds
One of the most striking things about Donald Trump’s accession to the presidency has been the over-the-top reaction of his opponents. One would need a heart of stone not to laugh at some of the expressions of dismay exhibited by Democrats, such as the now-famous protester who simply screamed "Noooo!" as the oath was taken, or Madonna saying she "thought an awful lot about blowing up the White House."

But in fact, this reaction to an election loss -- by anyone, to any candidate -- is not entirely irrational. Elections matter, after all. In fact, these days they matter too much. In the wake of the 2008 election, writer Jerry Pournelle observed: "We have always known that eternal vigilance is the price of freedom. It's worse now, because capture of government is so much more important than it once was. There was a time when there was enough freedom that it hardly mattered which brand of crooks ran government. That has not been true for a long time -- not during most of your lifetimes, and for much of mine -- and it will probably never be true again."

In other words, if Americans increasingly find it intolerable that their political opponents control the government, that’s because government controls too much.

Sorry asshat. If you get violent, it is within the rights of the assaulted to resist with lethal force. Stop blaming everyone else for not creating dialog first after you get your dumb ass perforated with metal while performing an illegal act. You should have switched the two actions, for then the one where you whistle through a new blowhole wouldn't have happened.

Can beer be brewed on the MOON?
h/t Instapundit
Russia will land its first cosmonauts on the moon in 2031.
Meanwhile, Nasa says we could colonise the moon by 2022 for a total cost of just $10 billion (£6.4 billion).
But one important question for our future life on moon is yet to be answered - whether or not beer can be brewed in space.
Now a group of students are setting out to answer this question, by brewing a batch of beer on the moon.

A team of University of California, San Diego students are competing to send an experiment to the moon, aboard a spacecraft built by Indian startup TeamIndus.

#1  Yes it can.

On the moon where there is gravity you could have the traditional beer that is carbonated.

In space... little more tricky. Microgravity keeps the CO2 from separating with the liquid, just like oil and water mixed in zero g don't separate. It makes it a bit problematic after it is drunk since you will burp and it would be a liquid burp.

There is actually a brewery in Australia that is perfecting a flat beer that can be taken and drunk in zero g safely while still tasting similar to what we drink on the ground.

Revenge of the bureaucrats
h/t Instapundit
President Donald Trump is setting himself up for a messy clash with the country’s 2.1 million federal employees as his administration quietly preps plans to cut the size of the government workforce.
Totally unexpectedly
Have you not noticed? 'Messy clashes' are DJT's forte. Bring it.
As one of his first acts Monday, Trump signed an executive order freezing most federal hiring. His team is also fine-tuning plans to shrink several agencies focused on domestic policy, according to sources close to the transition.

Now, the president is about to find out how much power these maligned workers have to slow or even short-circuit his agenda.

Disgruntled employees can leak information to Capitol Hill and the press, and prod inspectors general to probe political appointees. They can also use the tools of bureaucracy to slow or sandbag policy proposals -- moves that can overtly, or passive aggressively, unravel a White House’s best-laid plans.
Do we have to guess what the author's political views are?
p.s. You're for a surprise xe.

#3  If Congress passes a law removing unionization rights and certain civil service employee protections, those experienced corporate executives now heading agencies will know exactly what to do to root out the malingerers -- and they can guide their non-exec peers, as can the big boss.

That's the thing the maligned workers and disgruntled employees need to worry about. That Procter&Gamble CEO who did his best for President Obama at the VA can lay it ouf for them -- I'm sure he can tell them exactly what's needed.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Right Wing Granny: A Short History Lesson on Israel
[Right Wing Granny] The idea that Israel belongs to anyone except the Jews does not hold water historically. The British named the area of Israel Palestine as an insult to the Jewish people who lived there‐it had nothing to do with there being a state of Palestine. Such a state never existed.

The majority of that land that was originally given to Israel was given to Jordan. After the war in 1948, the Armistice Agreements left Jordan in control of the West Bank. In 1950, Jordan annexed the West Bank and gave all residents Jordanian citizenship. Until the 1967 War, the people living in the West Bank were considered Jordanian citizens. As I have noted in previous posts, Walid Shoebat stated, "One day during the 1960s I went to bed a Jordanian Muslim, and when I woke up the next morning, I was informed that I was now a Palestinian Muslim, and that I was no longer a Jordanian Muslim."

So where am I going with this? Pamela Geller posted an article on her website on January 12 about a court case in the Court of Appeal of Versailles France.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
Why is Chicago so corrupt? - A historical perspective
BLUF: [Da Tech Guy Blog] Chicago, like other Midwestern cities, was settled first by New Englanders and upstate New Yorkers, white Anglo-Saxon protestants mainly. But Irish people fleeing the Potato Famine and seeking work on such projects as the Illinois & Michigan Canal, along with Germans, were the first wave of immigrants to Chicago. My great-great grandfather, another John Ruberry, was part of this wave. But the Irish already knew English and the arguably more numerous Germans initially did not. Which meant that the Irish were able to qualify for government jobs. Then some of them made the logical next step‐run for political office.

The eighteenth-century Irish were unwilling subjects of the British Empire‐they viewed government as an alien force and many didn’t see anything wrong with stealing from that government. Old habits are hard to break‐and many Irish-Americans saw public service as an opportunity to stuff their pockets with bribes and kickbacks‐and to place their friends and relatives in other government positions. Or to offer other friends and relatives government contracts, who might reward their patrons with "gifts."

So Chicago’s culture of corruption was born.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Ralph Nader Criticizes Keith Ellison for Subdued Anti-Israel Rhetoric
[Free Beacon] Former Green Party presidential candidate Ralph Nader condemned Democratic Rep. Keith Ellison (Minn.) on Sunday for softening his stance against Israel.

Nader said Ellison’s tamped down anti-Israel rhetoric was an attempt to placate establishment political leaders as part of his effort to become chairman of the Democratic National Committee, the Observer reported.

Ellison, the first Muslim elected to Congress, has complained that Israel controls U.S. foreign policy while lauding Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan.

Speaking at the Progressive Unity Summit, Nader said Ellison no longer embodied one of the "top progressive legislators in the Congress" as he did five years ago. The 82-year-old environmentalist accused Ellison of attempting to pull support from DNC chair opponent Thomas Perez, who served as labor secretary under the Obama administration.

"When he started running for the chair of the DNC, he began changing: toning down his opinions, not repeating progressive positions," Nader said. "Then he said that, because he was losing ground to the establishment who wanted former Secretary of Labor Perez to be the chair, he said, well he would quit his seat, won’t be a part-time chair, starts backing off on Israel-Palestine issue."

"So I think, do we have the real Keith Ellison or do we have a transformed, conditioned Keith Ellison so desperate for the position that he’s forgotten a lot of his own former courageous stands and is willing to spend the lot of his time raising money from Democratic Party fat cats, which is the prime occupation of the chair of the Democratic National Committee," Nader continued.

The DNC will elect a successor to current chairwoman Donna Brazile next month. Nader predicted that Perez would easily win the slot.

Fox News Signs Former State Dept. Spokeswoman Marie Harf as New Contributor
[Free Beacon] Fox News signed former State Department spokeswoman Marie Harf as a new contributor, the news network announced Monday.

Harf "will offer national security and political analysis," Fox said. She will make her first appearance Monday night on Marcha MacCallum’s program The First 100 Days, Deadline first reported.

Before her most recent job as senior adviser of strategic communications for Secretary of State John Kerry, Harf was a deputy spokeswoman at the State Department from July 2013 to May 2015. She was the active spokeswoman for about two months in 2015.

Harf also worked on former President Barack Obama’s 2012 reelection campaign, where she served as a campaign spokeswoman on national security issues and collaborated on national security and communications strategy.

iPhone assembler Foxconn may invest $7B in US display plant
[WAPO] TAIPEI, Taiwan -- The Taiwanese company that assembles Apple’s iPhones and other electronics is considering investing $7 billion in a U.S. factory to produce display panels that would create as many as 50,000 jobs.

Foxconn CEO Terry Gou discussed the potential expansion Sunday during a company meeting in Taiwan. His comments were broadcast by Taiwanese media.

Foxconn, founded by Gou in 1974, assembles smartphones and other devices for Apple, Sony, Blackberry and other brands. Most of its operations are in mainland China, where its vast factories employ more than 1 million people.

FBI reviewed Flynn's calls with Russian ambassador but found nothing illicit
[WAPO] The FBI in late December reviewed intercepts of communications between the Russian ambassador to the United States and retired Lt. Gen. Michael T. Flynn -- national security adviser to then-President-elect Trump -- but has not found any evidence of wrongdoing or illicit ties to the Russian government, U.S. officials said.

The calls were picked up as part of routine electronic surveillance of Russian officials and agents in the United States, which is one of the FBI’s responsibilities, according to the U.S. officials, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss counterintelligence operations.

Nonetheless, the fact that communications by a senior member of Trump’s national security team have been under scrutiny points up the challenge facing the intelligence community as it continues its wide-ranging probe of Russian government influence in the U.S. election and whether there was any improper back-channel contacts between Moscow and Trump associates and acquaintances.

#2  Thank you, Besoeker. There are so many little things captured in mostly non-overlapping sets all over the place that this seemed the best way to keep from running up the article count while keeping track. The Breitbart and Daily Mail items are generally blurbs for much longer articles, but the details of this rape or that knife fight in a refugee hostel are not nearly as interesting -- except for the rare subject analyst -- as getting a sense of the general trend. Or at least as much of a sense as can be gotten when clearly so much of the information is suppressed. Still, Bretibart just announced they will be opening offices in Germany and France this year, so hopefully my filters will have more to catch.

Incidentally, if anyone has sources beyond the basic ones I'm aware of, or would like to take this on so that it is done more regularly than whenever I have time to spare, please let me know in the O Club.

BuzzFeed Ben Explains Why They Posted DJT-Russia Dossier: CNN Did It First
[Daily Caller] BuzzFeed editor in chief Ben Smith finally explained why the outlet published an opposition memo on President Donald Trump: CNN did it first.

CNN originally posted a heavily hedged report on the Trump-Russia dossier Jan. 10. Later that day, BuzzFeed posted the entirety of the memo with a note at the top of the piece saying, "The allegations are unverified, and the report contains errors."

The 35-page dossier is a collection of memos alleging that Trump has ties to Russia. Former British intelligence officer Christopher Steele prepared the dossier, and went into hiding on extended holiday after CNN and BuzzFeed published it.

BuzzFeed faced harsh backlash for journalists and the Trump administration for publishing the dossier.

#3  Smith wrote a piece in The New York Times Monday that gave some reasons for why BuzzFeed went ahead with publishing the dossier:

"First, the documents were in wide circulation among top intelligence and elected officials and news organizations. They were being fought over — and acted on — at the highest levels of power. But the rest of the country was getting only the occasional glimpse of those battles, never the source documents themselves."

Funny, BuzzFeed seemed to be remarkably disinterested in similar situations from 2008 onwards. Mr Smith came on board in 2011; apparently he found nothing of 'interest' in the years since then.

Russian Long Range Aviation hits ISIS targets in Deir Ezzor
[al-Manar] Six Russian Tu-22M3 long-range bombers have launched airstrikes on ISIL targets in Syria’s city of Deir ez-Zor, the Russian Defense Ministry said.

The Russian Defense Ministry said that the Tu-22M3 long-range bombers took off from an airfield in Russia and flew over the territory of Iraq and Iran.

“On January 23, 2017, six long-range Tu-22M3 bombers that took off from a Russian airfield and flew over Iraq and Iran carried out airstrikes on ISIL’s command posts, arms and ammunition depots near Deir Ezzor populated area.” The ministry added that all targets have been destroyed.

“Su-30SM and Su-35S provided air cover to the Russian bombers from the Hmeymim airbase.” After successfully completing their combat mission in Syria, the Russian jets returned to Russia. On Saturday, Russian strategic bombers also targeted ISIL positions in Deir Ezzor.

Last week, ISIL terrorists surrounded the Deir Ezzor military airfield in Syria’s northeast. Deir Ezzor airbase remains the last line of defense of the Syrian army on the way to the city. Despite numerous terrorist attacks involving suicide bombers and military equipment, the Syrian Air Force managed not only to successfully defend the airfield, but also counterattacked terrorists fighting in nearby territories.

three Paleostinians on suspicion of throwing Molotov cocktails at the entrance of Kibbutz Migdal Oz in Gush Etzion over the weekend. No injuries were reported.

In footage released by the IDF, the suspects are seen approaching the kibbutz at night and hurling several Molotov cocktails at the entrance before fleeing.

Utilizing Police and Shin Bet intelligence, Givati forces raided the homes of the suspects in Beit Fajjar and detained them for questioning.

The Renault vehicle used in the attack was seized as part of new security policy in which vehicles used in the commission of terrorist attacks are confiscated.

The IDF has recently increased anti-terror activities in the eastern sector of Gush Etzion following increases in Molotov cocktail and stone-throwing attacks on Israeli settlements and vehicles. Sixty Paleostinian suspects have been detained in the past year for such activity.

IDF soldier lightly injured in West Bank pipe bomb attack

[IsraelTimes] An Israeli soldier was lightly maimed by a pipe bomb that went kaboom! next to him on a road in the northern West Bank on Monday night, the army said.

Earlier in the evening, the Israel Defense Forces had received reports of burning tires outside the village of Mughayir, northeast of Ramallah, a military spokesperson said.

A group of soldiers were called to the area to investigate. One of them approached a burning tire, but it "turned out to be an bomb" and detonated, the army said.

The soldier was lightly injured and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The army began searching for those responsible for the pipe kaboom.

Afghanistan
Iranians met Taliban in Helmand province
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] Some Iranian representatives have reportedly met with the Taliban group in southern Helmand
...an Afghan province populated mostly by Pashtuns, adjacent to Injun country in Pak Balochistan...
province of Afghanistan.

Provincial governor Hayatullah Hayat informed regarding the possible meeting, saying the issue has been shared with the intelligence directorate for further confirmation.

Hayat cited preliminary intelligence report regarding the meeting and said the Iranians have met with the Taliban representatives in the restive Garamser district.

He also added that several Iranian rockets were also found after the Taliban used them to attack the provincial government compound.

According to Hayat, several rockets were fired on the compound when the group launched a coordinated attack and some of the rockets did not explode after impacting the buildings.

Hayat said the Iranian signs could be clearly read from the captured rockets.

This comes as the former Afghan intelligence chief Rahmatullah Nabil earlier said Iran is supporting the Taliban group to counter the growing influence of ISIS in the country.

Nabil said the group is receiving financial and equipment support from Iran, particularly in the western parts of the country.

Nabil further added that Russia’s interest towards Afghanistan has also grown as the violence has spread in northern parts of the country since 2014.

Two high-level Iranian government backers, including a former Islamic Republic official and another accused of lobbying on Tehran’s behalf, were hosted at the Obama White House for more than 30 meetings with top officials at key junctures in the former administration’s contested diplomacy with Iran, according to White House visitor logs that provide a window into the former administration’s outreach to leading pro-Iran advocates.

Both Parsi and Mousavian helped the White House craft its pro-Iran messaging and talking points that helped lead to the nuclear agreement with Iran.

Seyed Mousavian, a former Iranian diplomat and head of its national security council, was hosted at the White House at least three times, while Trita Parsi, a pro-Iran advocate long accused of hiding his ties to the Iranian government, met with Obama administration officials some 33 times, according to recently updated visitor logs.

Trump supporters troll Twitter with “#NotMySuperbowl”
After Trump’s victory in the presidential elections, the hashtag #NotMyPresident trended on Twitter for several days.

The proponents of the hashtag argued, among other things, that Trump was an illegitimate president because:

1. He was racist/sexist.
2. Russians Interfered with the elections.
3. Trump lost the popular vote.

On a completely unrelated note, the annual football Superbowl will take place on Sunday the 5th of February, 2017.

The football match which will take place at the NRG Stadium, Houston, Texas, will see the New England Patriots and the Atlanta Falcons compete for the prestigious cup.

A few hours ago, the hashtag #NotMySuperbowl begun trending on Twitter. The hashtag was meant to satirize the #NotMyPresident hashtag, and it does a pretty good job it it.

Whether you are personally a Trump fan or not, there’s no denying that these are genuinely funny:

Iraq
Baghdad Bomb and Bullet Bulletin

Kops foil suicide bombing

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) Security forces in Baghdad killed on Monday a suicide bomber before he went on with an attack at the north of the capital.

A statement from the Interior Ministry’s Baghdad Operations said the forces received an intelligence tip about a suicide bomber wearing an explosive belt and moving between the districts of al-Salman and al-Boushallal.

The suspect was ambushed and shot dead at an unpopulated area, said the statement.

Violence surged in Iraq with the emergence of Islamic State militants who took over large areas of the country in 2014. Baghdad has been witnessing almost daily bombings targeting civilians and security personnel.

Islamic State militants have said they were responsible for several bloody explosions that hit the capital in the past weeks, bringing the governorate municipal and security officials under critics’ fire.

The United Nations Assistance Mission in Iraq (UNAMI) said violence in the country left 19000 casualties in nine months of 2016.

Observers believe Islamic State have begun to escalate attacks outside the city of Mosul, where the group has been losing ground and personnel since October, so as to relieve pressure by government forces on that front and to divert attention from group losses.

While losing Mosul could be the severest blow to the group’s existence in Iraq, some observers believe attacks outside the province prove that the extremist group can still pose a security threat.

1 dead in car bomb attack in Talibiyah area

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) A police source revealed that a person was killed and six others were wounded in the explosion of a booby-trapped vehicle, east of Baghdad, Alsumaria News reported on Monday.

The source said, “A booby-trapped vehicle, parked on the roadside in Talibiyah area exploded, today, killing one person and wounding six others.”

“Security force imposed strict procedures in the area to prevent any further violations,” the source added on condition of anonymity.

Earlier today, Federal Police arrested two members of the Islamic State while attempting to place an adhesive explosive device under the vehicle of a police officer in the area of Abu Gharib.

Afghanistan
1,500 US soldiers to be deployed to Afghanistan
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The United States will deploy at least 1,500 soldiers from the Ready First Brigade to Afghanistan, it has been reported. The soldiers will serve for a period of 9 months as part of the advise, assist, and train mission to help the Afghan army and police.

With 300 already deployed to Afghanistan, the deployment of the remaining soldiers will start this month with the brigade expected to take up the mission in mid-February.

"For many soldiers, it will be their first deployment," Strong, from Syracuse, N.Y. told The Stars and Stripes newspaper. "They are very excited. Honestly, it is what a lot join the military for ‐ to serve and defend the nation."

Before their deployment to Afghanistan, the soldiers have gone on three rotations to combat training centers during that time ‐ to the National Training Center at Fort Irwin, Calif., in June 2015 and October-November 2016 and to the Joint Readiness Training Center at Fort Polk, La., in January 2016.

The brigade and its battalions also did extensive gated train-ups leading up to all of those rotations.

"As in any train-up, you’ve been training and you’ve been training, and it gets to the point where you are ready to go and do what you’ve been training so hard to do," Strong said.

TRB militia leader Haitham Tajouri issues new warning
[Libya Herald] Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
’s most powerful militia has warned that the city’s people cannot bear further armed conflict and has insisted the political process based on the Libyan Political Agreement is "irreplaceable."

The Tripoli’s Revolutionaries’ Brigade (TRB) led by Haitham Tajouri today warned against further fighting in the capital and repeated that it would not remain passive in the face of violence.

"We demand everybody keep Tripoli away from their struggle, as its residents cannot bear any new armed conflict inside the city" it wrote on its social media page.

The TRB said it had just held a meeting at which it demanded that politicians stand up for the capital. However,
there's more than one way to stuff a chicken...
at the same time the militia added "We announce, as Tripolitanians, that we have never assigned anyone to represent us at talks and we confirm that anyone who attempts to act in such a way is just a liar."

Journalists Whine After NY Post Gets First Question At Trump Press Briefing
[DAILYCALLER] White House press secretary Sean Spicer gave the first question of his first press conference Monday to the New York Post instead of the Associated Press. Journalists subsequently bemoaned on Twitter that the Trump administration was shirking tradition.

Texas Governor Threatens Funding Cut Over Sanctuary Cities
[ABCNEWS.GO] A Central Texas sheriff's announcement her agency will be scaling back its cooperation with federal immigration agents has prompted Gov. Greg Abbott to say his office will be cutting funding for the county.

Travis County Sheriff Sally Hernandez announced last week she is scaling back the amount of aid her department provides federal immigration agents in detaining suspects who might be in the country illegally, the Austin American-Statesman reported.

Effective Feb. 1, sheriff's officials will honor so-called immigration holds or "detainers" placed by federal authorities only when a suspect is booked into the Travis County Jail on charges of capital murder, aggravated sexual assault and "continuous smuggling of persons."

Otherwise, federal agents must have a court order or arrest warrant signed by a judge for the jail to continue housing a person whose immigration status is in question.

Hernandez's announcement came as Texas Republicans are gearing up for a new fight to ban so-called sanctuary cities in the current legislative session.

In response to Hernandez, Abbott tweeted his office "will cut funding for Travis County adopting sanctuary policies."

"Stiffer penalties coming," Abbott's tweet said.

Abbott has pushed the issue to the front of his unofficial agenda for 2017, pledging in interviews and on social media to sign into law a "ban" on cities and local governments that are seen as protecting people in the U.S. illegally, with sanctions such as cutting state funding. Civil rights groups say the threat from the governor could lead to racial profiling.

Afghanistan
Pakistan preparing for ‘tough talk’ with Afghanistan
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The Pak authorities are preparing for a ’tough talk’ with the Afghan government officials as the country’s Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa is mulling to visit Afghanistan, it has been reported.

Sources privy of the development have said Gen. Bajwa will visit the country in an appropriate time with the main motive behind his visit would be to amend the fractured ties between the two nations.

A security bigshot speaking on the condition of anonymity told a local newspaper that Gen. Bajwa will likely visit the country after the Trump administration announces its Afghanistan policy.

The source further added that Gen. Bajwa will also deliver a clear message to the Afghan leadership to ’stop blaming Pakistain for your own failings’.

This comes as the Afghan officials have long been criticizing Pakistain for allowing the Afghan krazed killer groups, specifically the Taliban and Haqqani terrorist network leaderships use its soil for planning and coordinating attacks in Afghanistan.

The US Department of State earlier said problem regarding the safe havens of the terrorist groups in Pakistain still persists.

State Department spokesperson Mark Toner made the remarks in response to a question regarding Afghan officials concerns about the attacks being carried out in Afghanistan using the Pak soil.

Endorsing Afghanistan’s view that bandidos Death Eaters are able to strike at whenever they want to because of the existence of safe havens, terrorist safe havens inside Pakistain, Toner said "Well, it continues ‐ so the short answer to your first question is yes, and I think we’ve been very frank and very open about publicly saying to ‐ to Pakistain that it needs to not provide any safe haven to groups that will or are intent on carrying out attacks on Afghanistan."

Africa Subsaharan
Gambia: Ex-ruler Yahya Jammeh 'plundered coffers'
[Al Jazeera] The Gambia
... The Gambia is actually surrounded by Senegal on all sides but its west coast. It has a population of about 1.7 million. The difference between the two is that in colonial days Senegal was ruled by La Belle France and The Gambia (so-called because there's only one of it, unlike Guinea, of which there are the Republic of Guinea, Equatorial Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, New Guinea, the English coin in circulation between 1663 and 1813, and Guyana, which sounds like it should be another one) was ruled by Britain...
's ex-ruler, Yahya Jammeh, plundered the state coffers in his final weeks in power, stealing millions of dollars and shipping out luxury vehicles by cargo plane, according to an aide to new president Adama Barrow.

Jammeh, who ruled the small West African country for 22 years, flew into exile late on Saturday to Equatorial Guinea.

He had refused to concede defeat in a December 1 election but eventually relinquished power after a delegation of West African leaders convinced him to step down, even as troops from neighbouring countries entered The Gambia.

On Sunday, hundreds of Banjul residents cheered a military force by ECOWAS, the West African regional bloc, as it entered the capital to provide security and allow Barrow, who has been in neighbouring Senegal
... a nation of about 14 million on the west coast of Africa bordering Mauretania to the north, Mali to the east, and a pair of Guineas to the south, one of them Bissau. It is 90 percent Mohammedan and has more than 80 political parties. Its primary purpose seems to be absorbing refugees...
for more than a week, to return and take power.

But amid growing controversy over the assurances offered to Jammeh to guarantee his departure, Barrow adviser Mai Fatty said the new administration had discovered that millions of dollars had recently been stolen.

"The coffers are largely empty," he told news hounds in the Senegalese capital, Dakar.

"Over two weeks, over 500m dalasi ($11 million) were withdrawn" by Jammeh, he said. "As we take over, the government of The Gambia is in financial distress."

Fatty also said that a Chadian cargo plane had transported luxury goods out of the country on Jammeh's behalf, in his final hours in power, including an unknown number of vehicles.

India-Pakistan
Police violence
[DAWN] THE thana is an exceedingly grim place in Pakistain. Rather than being an integral part of the community, the local cop shoppe is a place to be feared. The main reason for this is the police’s extensive use of physical violence including torture while dealing with suspects. As reported in this paper on Monday, a video of coppers assaulting two individuals in Lahore’s Thokar Niaz Baig area that made it to the TV channels has once again exposed the brutish methods employed by our law enforcers. As per the report, the police had signalled the two men -- on a cycle of violence -- to stop, and when they refused to comply, the officers gave chase and thereafter gave the two suspects a hiding. Indeed, in these days of rampant militancy and violent crime, law enforcers are under tremendous pressure and at times have to apply force against dangerous suspects. But these are exceptional circumstances, whereas physical violence has been an insidious part of Pakistain’s thana culture as far back as memory serves. In fact, as a Human Rights Watch report released last year notes, police brutality is a countrywide problem. And as some law-enforcement experts have pointed out, the culture of police brutality happens to be common across South Asia.

Perhaps the main reason our law enforcers employ such dreadful tactics is that our policing model -- for the most part -- is a remnant of the colonial age, ill-suited to protect and serve the populace of a modern state. As experts have repeatedly said, until the policing model changes, it will be nearly impossible to wipe out the use of torture by police personnel. Instead of a policing model that dates back to the days of the Raj, community policing is the need of the day, through which coppers can take citizens into confidence and use modern scientific methods to pursue cases. Employing violence has failed to make Pakistain safer, and has only widened the chasm of mistrust between the people and the police.

The Grand Turk
Gülenist network a global threat, Erdoğan says in Tanzania
[Hurriyet Daily News] The Gülenist network is a threat not only to Turkey but to all the countries in which it operates, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has said during a state visit to Tanzania.

Speaking at the Tanzania Business Forum on Jan. 23, Erdoğan underlined the prevalence of the Gülenist network in different regions of the world, “hiding behind the notions of humanitarian aid, education, and trade.”

The group is “not only a threat to Turkey but to all countries in which it has activities,” he said. “We know that this sneaky network has arms in Tanzania. We have discussed the required measures with the president. I will ask a favor from you. Do not pay attention to any establishment, especially businessmen’s associations that have the name of ‘Turkey’ but do not have any ties to us and have not been recognized by our embassy,” he said.

“The biggest problem of the world currently is terror. Therefore, we should take measures against this terror altogether. ‘Soft terror, hard terror’ ... We should never come to this plot,” said Erdoğan, adding that he believed Tanzania would take “much different measures” in the upcoming period against the Gülenist network.

The Gülenist movement is accused of perpetrating the July 15, 2016, coup attempt in Turkey.

[Al Jazeera] Israel's former foreign minister cancelled a trip to Brussels after Belgian prosecutors confirmed they wanted to question her over war crimes allegations. Tzipi Livni was expected to meet Jewish leaders in the city on Monday, but cancelled ahead of time.

A front man for the event said Livni cancelled for "personal reasons" but local newspaper Le Soir said prosecutors had been hoping to question her over allegations of war crimes in the 2008-9 Israeli war in Gazoo, when she was foreign minister.

"We wanted to take advantage of her visit to try to advance the investigation," a front man for Belgium's federal prosecutor Thierry Werts told the AFP news agency.

Livni is named along with other political and military leaders in a complaint filed in June 2010 over alleged crimes committed during the Gazoo war.

More than 1,400 Paleostinians, mostly civilians, died during the Israeli offensive between December 27, 2008 to January 18, 2009.

Thirteen Israelis, including ten soldiers, also died.

Fighting Trump’s Treasury pick with fake news
[NYPOST] Team Trump’s not wrong to think the media are gunning for it, as a bit of fake news from Politico on Steve Mnuchin, the president’s pick to run the Treasury, shows again.

The story’s headline told the horrible tale: "Steven Mnuchin’s OneWest filed to take a 90-year-old woman’s house after a 27-cent payment error." It was picked up by the Huffington Post, CNN, Vanity Fair and others, and got thrown at Mnuchin during his confirmation hearings last week.

That prompted the Competitive Enterprise Institute’s Ted Frank to do some basic fact-checking. He says it took all of four minutes to prove it bogus.

The Mnuchin-founded OneWest did file for foreclosure in November 2014 -- but dropped the suit once it learned Ossie Lofton had just bungled some paperwork, and did legally qualify for the mortgage.

Then CIT Group bought out OneWest, which ceased to exist -- and lawyers for a third-party mortgage servicer stupidly filed suit after she made the 27-cent error. That case got tossed as soon as her lawyers pointed out the facts; the only question now is how much she’ll be paid for her troubles.

OneWest and Mnuchin had nothing to do with the headline horror -- and the widow will come out just fine.

US Military Bases 'Taking Down Obama Portraits, Replacing Them With Trump Memes'
[InformationLiberation] In military bases across the country, portraits of Obama are coming down and Trump memes are reportedly taking their place.

Federal policy dictates that all Obama portraits in court houses, post offices, government buildings and military installations needed to be removed by 12:01 p.m. on Friday, January 20th. Trump portraits need to take their place, but not everyone has received their official portraits yet.

These photos shared on social media purportedly show what's taken their place in the meantime."

Poll: Millennials in Massachusetts don't want Elizabeth Warren reelected
Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) has become a national figure for progressivism, but in her home state, voters are unsure if she deserves to be re-elected in 2018.

A WBUR poll released on Monday found that only 44 percent of Massachusetts voters believed that Warren should be re-elected in 2018. A plurality, 46 percent, said that someone else deserved a chance.

Millennials were the group least supportive of Warren, despite being the most progressive. Only 30 percent of young voters felt that the Senator should be re-elected in 2018. By contrast, senior citizens were the strongest supporters of Warren with 51 percent saying she deserved to go back to Washington for a second term.

A third of Democrats and nearly half of independents also believed Warren didn’t deserve to be re-elected.

No Democrats have announced any intention of challenging Warren in a primary, but several Republicans including State Reps. Geoff Diehl and Daniel Winslow, as well as former Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling, are looking at a possible run in the Bay State.

Afghan air force bomb ISIS hideout in Zabul, 21 killed
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] At least 21 bandidos turbans affiliated with the loyalists of the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terrorist group were killed in an Arclight airstrike conducted by the Afghan Air Force in Zabul province.

The provincial police commandment said late on Sunday that the Arclight airstrike was carried out in Dai Chupan Khak Afghan district.

According to the security officials, at least 7 ISIS bandidos turbans including a commander of the group were also maimed in the Arclight airstrike.

The anti-government armed bad boy groups including the ISIS loyalist have not commented regarding the report so far.

This comes as Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah
... the former foreign minister of the Northern Alliance government, advisor to Masood, and candidate for president against Karzai. Dr. Abdullah was born in Kabul and is half Tadjik and half Pashtun...
said late in December last year that special military operations will kick off soon in southeastern Ghazni and southern Zabul provinces to suppress the loyalists of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terrorist group and Taliban turbans.

He made the remarks during a meeting with the elders of the two provinces which organized amid concerns that the fighters of the two group are attempting to expand foothold in some districts of the two provinces.

The elders of Zabul said the local residents in Khak-e-Afghan and Nawbahar districts have noted movements of the two groups to establish and strengthen their presence.

The Ghazni representatives also said the ISIS loyalists and Taliban turbans have started to expand their foothold in Nawa district.

The ISIS bandidos turbans have reportedly arrived with their families and are fully equipped with the area turning into an entry point for the foreign turbans.

President Trump signs three executive memos
[CBSNEWS] President Trump signed three executive memos on trade Monday morning -- one withdraws the U.S. from the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP), another reinstates the Mexico City Policy dealing with non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and abortion access, and a third freezes federal workforce hiring.

Asked about the ethics lawsuit filed against him, Mr. Trump said only, "Without merit. Totally without merit."

TPP was an enormous trade deal that would have aligned the U.S. and 11 nations in the Asia-Pacific region including Japan, Australia, Vietnam, Canada and Mexico under an agreement that would have eliminated thousands of tariffs and streamlined regulations. The countries involved in the deal collectively conduct 40 percent of global trade.

"Everyone knows what that means, right? We’ve been talking about this for a long time," Mr. Trump said as he signed the order withdrawing the U.S. from the TPP. "Great thing for the American worker, what we just did."

As he signed the federal workforce hiring freeze, Mr. Trump noted that the military was exempted from the hiring freeze.

TPP also would have required ratification by Congress, and President B.O. had hoped to see it ratified before he left office.

The Mexico City Policy was originally announced by President Reagan in 1984 and required nongovernmental organizations to agree as a condition of receiving any federal funding that they "would neither perform nor actively promote abortion as a method of family planning in other nations."

Then-President Bill Clinton
...former Democratic president of the U.S. Bill was the second U.S. president to be impeached, the first to deny that oral sex was sex, the first to have difficulty with the definition of is...
rescinded it in January 1993 upon taking office, and George W. Bush reinstated it when he took office. And then Barack Obama
My friends, we live in the greatest nation in the history of the world. I hope you'll join with me as we try to change it...
rescinded it again in 2009.

On Friday evening, President Trump signed one executive order that cancelled an FHA mortgage premium cut that helps low-income home buyers and another that waived provisions of the Affordable Care Act that impose a financial burden on states or individuals.

Jallikattu: Two gored to death in bull-taming festival
[Al Jazeera] Two men have been gored to death in a bull-taming festival event in southern India, a day after authorities temporarily lifted a ban on the traditional event.
That worked well.
Up to 90 people were also injured on Sunday as rampaging bulls sprinted through Rapoosal, a village in the state of Tamil Nadu.
Makes football look tame.
The sport, known as Jallikattu, was banned by India's top court banned it in 2014 on grounds of animal cruelty.
Two dead and ninety injured sounds like participant cruelty.
Yet, the government on Saturday passed an executive order to temporarily overturn the ban following week-long protests, and Jallikattu events were subsequently held in towns and villages across Tamil Nadu.

The Beatings Will Continue: Iraqi and Syria Editions

ISIS recruiter dies in airstrike

Nineveh (IraqiNews.com) A senior Islamic State leader responsible for recruiting foreign members was killed in an Iraqi airstrike in western Mosul, a security official was quoted as saying.

The strike, which was carried out three days ago, targeted al-Mazlomin village at the IS-held strategic town of Tal Afar, and killed Abbas Suleiman Ismail AlHaider, aka Abu Aesha, along with four other Azerbaijani nationals, according to a security source.

Iraqi government forces have approached the final districts in eastern Mosul where Islamic State militants locate. The liberation of that region after three months of operations would be the most remarkable victory over the extremist group since a campaign was launched to retake the city in mid October.

After retaking eastern Mosul, Iraqi generals hope to move immediately beyond the Tigris River towards Islamic State strongholds in the west, where military observers predict a tougher battle due to the higher density of the population.

IS militants have reportedly withdrew from the east to the west, with many reportedly killed upon crossing Tigris River to the other side. Many group leaders have been killed, according to news reports and military statements by Iraqi and international coalition commanders. Counter-Terrorism Forces said last week they had killed 3300 militants since the start of operations.

The conflict in Mosul has displaced at least 181.000 civilians, according to the Iraqi government, and the United Nations had said the conflict would threaten to displacement at least one million.

Iraq executes 31 for Speicher massacre

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) Iraqi judicial authorities executed on Monday 31 convicts linked to a massacre carried out by the Islamic State that left 1700 Iraqi air force cadets dead in 2014.

Anadolu Agency quoted Mahmoud Khalaf, the mayor of Samarra, Salahuddin, as saying that some of the convicts belonged to his city, while the rest were from other areas of the province. He said the dead bodies were transferred to the city’s public hospital preparing to hand them over to their relatives.

The massacre occurred at the Speicher air base in Tikrit, the capital of Salahuddin, when Islamic State militants executed 1700 Shia students at the air force. The victims were either shot at or beheaded before their corpses were dumped into the Tigris River, which cuts through Tikrit. The incident was one instance among many that ignited public discontent with the performance of former prime minister Nouri Al-Maliki.

On Sunday, security sources were quoted as saying that 89 bodies of the massacre’s victims were found at a mass grave in Tikrit. They were to be exhumed, subjected to a DNA test and handed over to their families, according to news reports.

Since its emergence in 2014, taking over large areas of Iraq to proclaim an “Islamic Caliphate”, IS militants have proudly posted videos of heinous executions it carried out against security personnel and civilians at areas under its control for multiple charges.

ISIS executes 2 in Raqqa

[ARA News] Raqqa – Islamic State’s (ISIS) jihadists on Monday executed two soldiers from the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) who have been captured by the group during clashes in Raqqa countryside.

ISIS had taken two SDF fighters as captives subsequent to clashes west of Raqqa last week.

“The two SDF soldiers were publicly beheaded in the Tabqa town,” local media activist Khalid al-Husni told ARA News.

The radical group has executed the soldiers on charges of “opposing Allah’s Sharia and fighting the Caliphate’s rule”.

This comes amid continued military operations by the Kurdish-led SDF troops against ISIS in the vicinity of Raqqa.

The SDF announced that it has captured over 2500 km2 in western Raqqa Governorate as part of the second phase of the US-backed Euphrates Wrath Operation. The polyethnic alliance also confirmed that they had cleared 196 villages and dozens of farms.

During the first phase of Euphrates Wrath, which began on November 6, the SDF liberated roughly 560 km² in northern Raqqa. “Thus, since the beginning of the battle for Raqqa, 3200 square kilometers have been cleared, including 236 villages.”

The SDF launched the second phase of the Operation Euphrates Wrath with the objective of securing Raqqa’s western countryside and Tabqa Dam, which bridges the Euphrates River. The first phase of the operation focused on securing the banks of the Balikh River.

The SDF confirmed the that they had eliminated 620 ISIS militants during the course of the campaign, captured 18 others and destroyed “over 40 car bombs.” In addition, SDF troops seized “a great deal of ammunition and weapons,” as well as “a number of ISIS vehicles.”

The long-term objective of Euphrates Wrath remains the elimination of the Islamic State in its de facto capital –Raqqa city.

Civilians' presence hinders ISIS' use of bombs

[Asharq Al-Awsat] Mosul- Iraqi forces used to facing deserted, explosives-rigged streets and booby-trapped buildings have not encountered as many bombs planted by jihadists in Mosul as they did in earlier battles against them.

ISIS has no qualms about killing civilians, but the presence of a large number of residents in Iraq’s second city discouraged the jihadists from extensively sowing it with explosives, officers say.

While previous urban battlefields in Iraq’s war against ISIS were largely depopulated by the time the country’s forces moved in, Mosul still sheltered a million-plus people when the offensive to retake it was launched three months ago.

If explosives had been widely planted by the jihadists ahead of the battle, they would have been at risk of being triggered before Iraqi forces arrived.

So while the systematic mining of roads and rigging of buildings with bombs has arguably been ISIS’ signature defense system against Iraqi forces, in Mosul, the jihadists had to change tack.

Iraqi forces have seen less booby-trapping in Mosul than in Anbar and Salaheddin provinces, where earlier key battles against ISIS took place, said Staff Lieutenant General Abdulghani al-Assadi, a top commander in the elite Counter-Terrorism Service.

“The reason is the families remained in their neighborhoods, in their houses,” Assadi told Agence France Presse.

Some residents of the city have ventured out of their homes just moments after the fighting died down, and in recaptured areas of eastern Mosul, stores are reopening, goods are displayed in front of shops, civilian cars and pedestrians move along some streets and children play outside.

Staff Lieutenant General Sami al-Aridhi, another senior CTS commander, said there was “no comparison” between the number of bombs planted in Mosul and those in Anbar province, where Iraqi forces retook the cities of Ramadi and Fallujah from ISIS.

There are fewer because “here in Mosul, the residents didn’t leave,” Aridhi said.

“Now, when we advance into any neighborhood, we don’t think that the street is booby-trapped; our vehicles move normally.”

ISIS needed civilians in Mosul to maintain at least the veneer of a functioning “state,” and extensively planting bombs that could be triggered by residents would have both reduced their defensive utility and risked stoking popular anger against the jihadists.

This does not mean that ISIS has completely forgone the use of bombs in Mosul.

It is a “change of strategy” for ISIS, said Captain Qaisar Fawzi, an officer in an Iraqi army engineering battalion.

“They did not rely on roadside bombs, they relied on explosives-rigged vehicles,” he added.

Vehicles rigged with bombs “are indeed the enemy’s weapon of choice in the battle of Mosul,” said Colonel John Dorrian, spokesman for the U.S.-led anti-ISIS coalition.

But, according to Assadi, in “important areas, the residents were displaced… and (ISIS) started to booby-trap them.”

Lise Grande, the U.N.’s humanitarian coordinator for Iraq, said that bombs planted by ISIS have still posed a threat to civilians.

“People who are trying to flee Mosul… have stepped on booby-traps and IEDs (improvised explosive devices),” killing some and wounding others, Grande said.

And “based on experiences from other occupied areas, we’re worried that IEDs have been planted by (ISIS) in schools, hospitals and other public buildings,” she said.

The large numbers of civilians in Mosul have also hampered Iraqi offensive operations.

Aridhi said that while security forces could previously strike ISIS from a distance, “here, we are not able to use any fire, because citizens are present.”

“We are delayed because people are present,” he said.

Assadi agreed, saying that there is “little booby-trapping, few bombs, but (many) citizens whom we must protect.”

Iraqi forces do however still use heavy weapons in Mosul: helicopters and warplanes have frequently carried out strikes inside the city, and artillery as well as large unguided rockets are fired inside it.

The combination of civilians staying in the city and the lower number of bombs planted inside it means life has returned to some recaptured areas in Mosul far quicker than in other cities retaken from ISIS.

Parts of Ramadi and Fallujah are still uninhabitable, but while some houses and buildings in Mosul have been wrecked and streets are cratered by bombs and strewn with rubble, other places have escaped largely unharmed.

“The booby-trapping began after the start of the Mosul operation,” said resident Raed Mohammed, speaking to AFP at a roundabout in the city’s east where street vendors were out selling goods, but which was still overlooked by an ISIS billboard and marred by damaged buildings.

People were going about their daily lives before that and, had the jihadists extensively planted bombs, “it’s likely that they themselves would have been exposed to explosions.”

"Turkey has been subjected to coups since it joined NATO. NATO has always been in charge of the dirty and bloody deeds in the country. "NATO has become a threat and is spreading terror organizations across the region. You can designate NATO along with DEASH [Islamic State

Tayyar also suggested that Turkey may opt for shutting down the Incirlik Air Base, located in the southern province of Adana and used by NATO jets, "as a precaution."

The AKP deputy said Ankara "could open a new page" with Washington under new President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...

and halting support to terror organizations in Syria," are not met.
Let Turkey withdraw from NATO. Let it wither from the lack of military spare parts, stores and interactions with us. Let Europe see what Turkey is.

Chief judge quits over 'begging for Gulf money'
[Al Jazeera] Jordan's chief Islamic justice Ahmad Hilayel has resigned abruptly two days after he delivered a sermon in which he chastised Arab Gulf leaders for not doing enough to support Jordan financially.

Hilayel in his Friday sermon demanded that the leaders of Gulf states share their wealth with his country, at statement that was seen by some commentators as a national embarrassment.

"Things have reached a boiling point with us," Hilayel said, addressing the Gulf leaders. "Your brothers in Jordan are facing danger all around them, where is your help; where is your money and where are your riches?" he added.

Hilayel's sermon drew sharp public criticism for its unusual tone, that, according to Abdel Karim al-Dughmi, a Member of Parliament, was tantamount to "straight up begging".

Speaking to Al Jazeera from Amman, al-Dughmi said: "I don't accept what Hilayel said because we should not turn into beggars from the pulpit.

"If we have the right to money from the Gulf as per our mutual agreements, it should be demanded though different channels. Not like that."

Maryam Safdar named in Panama Papers as beneficiary
[Al Jazeera] The daughter of Pakistain's Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif
... served two non-consecutive terms as prime minister, heads the Pakistain Moslem League (Nawaz). Noted for his spectacular corruption, the 1998 Pak nuclear test, border war with India, and for being tossed by General Musharraf...
was involved in the Panama Papers scandal, a German newspaper said, as it backed up an earlier claim.

German daily Suddeutsche Zeitung on Monday posted documents on Twitter confirming that Maryam Safdar is the beneficial owner of offshore companies named in Panama Papers.

Al Jazeera searched the database of the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) that includes 11.5 million documents leaked from the Panama-based law firm Mossack Fonseca, and found Safdar's details.

Safdar was listed as the beneficiary of Nescoll Limited, an offshore company registered in British Virgin Islands. Her brother Hussain Nawaz Sharif was listed as the signatory.

Allegations of corruption against the Sharif family are being heard in Pakistain's Supreme Court.

Prime Minister Sharif told the court in a written submission last year that the leak was not the proof against him, as his children were not his dependents.

He said he was not holding any offshore companies. Sharif also claimed that he had paid tax and declared all of his assets in 2013.

The Panama Papers leak revealed how Mossack Fonseca allegedly helped current and former world leaders, as well as businessmen, criminals, celebrities and sports stars, evade or avoid tax via anonymously-owned shell companies and offshore accounts.

2 Bangladeshis arrested in Malaysia for alleged IS links
[Bangla Daily Star] Two Bangladeshis have been held in Malaysia for their suspected links to Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(IS).

Malaysian Special Branch's Counter-Terrorism Division incarcerated
Keep yer hands where we can see 'em, if yez please!
four people, including the two Bangladeshis, in separate raids between January 13 and 19 in Kuala Lumpur and Sabah, New Straits Times, a local English daily, reported yesterday.

The suspects included a 31-year-old Filipino man and a 27-year-old Malaysian woman.

The Bangladeshis, aged 27 and 28, worked as salesmen, and were arrested last Thursday in Kuala Lumpur. They were suspected of having ties to suspected IS forces of Evil in Bangladesh and planning to join Dr Mahmud's terror cell, according to the report.

Dr Mahmud was a former lecturer at University Malaya who had joined IS forces of Evil based in the southern Philippines.

Malaysian Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said the arrests meant that police had effectively destroyed a new IS cell which had planned to turn Sabah into a transit station for Southeast Asia and South Asia gunnies to join a Philippines-based IS group led by Dr Mahmud Ahmad and Isnilon Hapilon.

"Preliminary investigation revealed that the cell, led by Dr Mahmud, had combined with an Abu Sayyaf
...also known as al-Harakat al-Islamiyya, an Islamist terror group based in Jolo, Basilan and Zamboanga. Since its inception in the early 1990s, the group has carried out bombings, kidnappings, murders, head choppings, and extortion in their uniquely Islamic attempt to set up an independent Moslem province in the Philippines. Abu Sayyaf forces probably number less than 300 cadres. The group is closely allied with remnants of Indonesia's Jemaah Islamiya and has loose ties with MILF and MNLF who sometimes provide cannon fodder...
group headed by Isnilon, which had pledged allegiance to IS leader Abu Bakar Al Baghdadi," he said in a statement.

Malaysia is a major destination for the Bangladeshi jobseekers. Around four lakh Bangladeshis are now working in the country.

Beach-bomb terror suspect doesn’t know the 1st thing about ISIS, lawyer says at trial
[MiamiHerald] Harlem Suarez,
...apparently about as hapless a gullible sucker as one can be and still stand upright, whose ISIS-loving alter ego on Facebook was named Almlak Benitez for reasons that pass understanding. He's awfully lucky the FBI found him before the ISIS recruiters got their claws in him...
25-year-old man Stock Island charged with plotting to bury a bomb wrapped in nails under the sand at a Key West beach, is nothing like the homegrown ISIS sympathizer federal prosecutors have described, his defense team told a jury Monday.

"There’s no action, it’s just talk," Richard Della Fera, a Fort Lauderdale-based attorney who, with law partner Joshua Entin, is representing Suarez, said in opening trial statements Monday. "Harlem Suarez is not even a practicing Moslem and knows very little, if anything, about the Islamic religion."

After the government’s lawyers depicted a young man eager to make it onto CNN with his bombing of beachgoers, Della Fera stood up to say his client was goaded, intimidated and directed into trying to buy explosives from a paid FBI informant.

Suarez, who was born in Cuba and moved to the Keys with his family in 2004 when he was 12, faces life in prison if the jury finds him guilty.

The trial opened at 9:30 a.m. Monday in U.S. District Court in Key West, where federal agents blocked off parking in front of the building on Simonton Street. Inside Judge Jose Martinez’s courtroom, royal-blue curtains hung ready to be drawn above the wooden ledge that separates the attorneys’ tables from the audience.

The curtains will be drawn during the testimony of three government witnesses -- each an undercover informant working on behalf of federal law enforcement -- to protect their identities from the public.

Suarez was targeted after a Facebook user reported to police he had received a disturbing message about recruiting ISIS sympathizers, prosecutors said.

While living with his parents at a Stock Island apartment in 2015, Suarez communicated via text and Facebook with the informants, agreeing to meet at a motel in Homestead, where he was recorded making statements about carrying out violence under the alias Black Angel of Death to support ISIS.

"Everyone against us must die," Suarez said, according to prosecutors. "We are ISIS Moslems. One day I will cook Americans."

Suarez also talked of plotting a Fourth of July bombing in Key West, Miami or Marathon, prosecutors said.

Della Fera said his client was working two jobs July 4, 2015, and then went out to meet friends. "On July 4, Harlem Suarez was drinking with his friends on Duval Street," Della Fera said.

To be fair under the presumption of innocence, a magistrate judge ruled jurors can’t learn that Suarez legally bought an AK-47 rifle in 2015, having it mailed to a Key West pawn shop. But Suarez didn’t pick up the gun because he had failed to properly fill out the paperwork.

Fifth Column
American Flag Hijab
[AmericanThinker] The print edition of Friday’s Washington Post, on the last page of the A Section, contained a full-page advertisement featuring a “painting” of an arresting Muslim woman in an American flag hijab. The image appears to be the work of Shepard Fairley, the artist who created the now iconic (if illegally copied) Obama Hope picture of 2008. It is a clever and insidious piece of leftist/Islamist propaganda put out by a far-left organization called the Amplifier Foundation, which obviously hopes it will become as well known and popular as Fairley’s Obama image. It is worth examining for its tricks and illusions, as a cautionary example of how far the left can go, and how effective it can still be, in the age of Trump.
Image can be seen at the link, along with the examination.
Nor does it appear that the organization that produced and published the image is a small proletarian band of brave liberal artists as their website implies. Full back page ads at the Washington Post are not cheap, running $28,954 for a weekday edition. That shows the organization is backed by someone with serious cash on hand.

The image was clearly prepared and published to support the Women’s March on Washington, another far left propaganda stunt promoted in the mainstream media as an organic grassroots movement, but which is much more deliberate and insidious. The Amplifier Foundation appears to be heavily involved in the enterprise. This image was created and distributed at considerable expense to promote an anti-American leftist agenda that if carried to its philo-Islamist fruition would be extremely harmful to American women. This is quite good evidence of unseen hostile leftist financing such as George Soros or the like. Since the left is now back in protest mode rather than in executive control, we can expect to see a lot more like this.

It finally sunk in this morning, Donald Trump is officially the President of the United States. Iraq
Mosul Offensive News

Iraqi forces attack last ISIS position in east Mosul

Nineveh (IraqiNews.com) Iraqi joint government forces stormed on Monday the last district hosting Islamic State militants in the eastern section of Mosul, with the total recapture of that region expected for announcement within hours.

Sputnik news agency quoted an Iraqi army captain as saying that forces from the 9th and the 16th divisions stormed al-Rashidiya district in the north of the city under an aerial cover by fighter jets from the U.S.-led international coalition against IS.

The source expected the government to declare the full recapture of eastern Mosul within hours, which would be the most remarkable victory over the extremist group since a campaign was launched to retake the city in mid October.

Sofian Abdulelah al-Hamadani, a commander at the 16th division, was quoted Monday as saying that IS deployed snipers above houses overlooking the western ban of Tigris River, also erecting concrete roadblocks and closed most of the streets at that region.

The conflict in Mosul has displaced at least 181.000 civilians, according to the Iraqi government, and the United Nations had said the conflict would threaten to displacement at least one million.

ISIS recruiter dies in Mosul

Iraqi forces capture north Mosul district

Nineveh (IraqiNews.com) Iraqi joint government forces recaptured on Monday another district in northern Mosul from Islamic State militants, one in a handful of spots remaining within the extremist group’s grip.

The Ministry of Defense said in a statement forces recaptured the district of Qawsiyat and a few other neighboring villages. Its announcement comes a few hours after military sources told Sputnik News that troops had invaded the district of Rashidiya.

The ministry’s statement added that more than 50 islamic State militants were killed in the Monday battles, while six vehicles, a booby-trapping workshop and C4 jerrycans used by them were seized and destroyed.
Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi said last week that troops had to free a few districts in northern Mosul to declare the eastern section of the city as totally IS-free, which would be the most remarkable victory over the extremist group since a campaign was launched to retake the city in mid October.

After retaking eastern Mosul, Iraqi generals hope to move immediately beyond the Tigris River towards Islamic State strongholds in the west, where military observers predict a tougher battle due to the higher density of the population.

A source at the Joint Operations Command said in a press statement on Monday that floating bridges had been extended above the Tigris River, preparing for the forces to move for battles at the western section of Mosul. He added that Iraqi fighter jets began to bombard IS locations in the west preparing for the battles, predicting a tougher battle there due to the density of the population residing narrow residential areas that are difficult to invade with military vehicles.

Malaysia nabs four linked to Daesh cell in Philippines
[ABS-CBN] Malaysian police said on Monday they had arrested four people, among them three foreigners, with links to a Daesh cell based in the southern Philippines.

Malaysian Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar said in a statement that the cell, operating out of Mindanao, was led by a former university lecturer, Mahmud Ahmad, who is known to be a Malaysian Daesh member. The cell had planned to use the eastern Malaysian state of Sabah as a transit point for regional recruits looking to join Daesh in the Philippines.

Khalid said one of the arrested suspects, a Filipino, had been instructed to recruit new followers from Bangladesh, Malaysia and Indonesia, as well as Rohingya Muslims from Myanmar, and arrange for their travel to Mindanao. The suspect was arrested in Sabah along with a Malaysian woman who was planning to marry and travel with him to the Philippines.

Police also arrested two Bangladeshi men in Kuala Lumpur, who had allegedly been recruited by the Philippine suspect. Khalid said, "The two are suspected of having links with Daesh groups in Bangladesh."

Khalid said Mahmud's cell had joined up with the Abu Sayyaf and pledged its allegiance to the group's leader and the nation's most-wanted man, Isnilon Hapilon.

Last June, militants who claimed to be Daesh fighters said in a video they had chosen Isnilon to lead the group's Southeast Asian faction. The video, posted on social media, marked Daesh's acceptance of allegiance by Southeast Asian supporters and called for them to launch attacks in the region.

Malaysia has arrested more than 250 people between 2013 and 2016 over militant activities linked to Daesh.

IS reinforces positions in Syria's al-Bab
[al-Monitor] Military operations are ongoing near al-Bab, northeast of Aleppo, between the Free Syrian Army
... the more palatable version of the Syrian insurgency, heavily influenced by the Moslem Brüderbund...
(FSA) factions and special Turkish forces on the one hand, and the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(IS) on the other. The battles that the armed Syrian opposition is waging with Turkish air and land support in the framework of Operation Euphrates Shield that The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
launched on Aug. 24 face major challenges against IS. The organization is defending, ever so strongly, its main stronghold in the Aleppo countryside.

Al-Monitor accompanied FSA soldiers participating in the battle and closely watched the progress of the military operation that has been faltering for many reasons.

For one, bad weather conditions were far from helpful. Besides, IS’ strong resistance in al-Bab -- which the organization considers an important hub for moving men and military equipment -- did not make the battle any easier. The strong presence of civilians in the city also complicated the operation, as IS forbade them from leaving the city and is using them as human shields.

IS has also benefited from defenses it has built and planted around the city, such as tunnels and trenches and the sowing of mines of varying sizes and types. Some mines are anti-personnel, while others target armored and four-wheel drive vehicles. Euphrates Shield fighters lost many of their vehicles and men during IS’ ongoing raid attempts. Notably, IS relies on boom-mobileings and cycle of violence suicide kabooms. A boom-mobileing targeting Euphrates Shield recently occurred in Jubb al-Barazi near al-Bab and killed seven people, including two civilians.

During al-Monitor’s field visit to Operation Euphrates Shield battlefronts near al-Bab, FSA leader Mohammed Haj Ali told al-Monitor, "Despite our repeated attempts to raid al-Bab city and open new battlefronts against IS, we have failed so far in breaking the organization’s defenses and its front lines surrounding the city from the north and west. We changed our military tactics several times by attacking Qabasin, Suflania and Bizaah towns in the east and northeast of al-Bab. The battles are ongoing on these axes to pave the way for besieging al-Bab and threatening it from the east, at the same time as the land attacks in the west and north."

He said, "Turkish air raids against IS locations, ammunition warehouses and military headquarters in al-Bab and its surroundings have increased lately. The Turkish tanks have also been increasingly targeting IS locations, but the shelling did not really weaken the organization, which is maintaining its fierce defense. IS has large amounts of weapons and ammunition, including anti-tank missiles."

Ali added, "IS has many local fighters in al-Bab and its surroundings, in addition to hundreds of foreign members who came to the aid of their fellows in the battles to deter Operation Euphrates Shield. IS has a remarkable amount of heavy weapons and ammunition and is using them in al-Bab battle. Perhaps those are part of its spoils of war in Palmyra city."

Operation Euphrates Shield forces failed to gain control of nearby Jabal al-Sheikh Akil and al-Farouq Hospital -- two strategic locations where IS members are positioned. Jabal al-Sheikh Akil is a key passage for controlling al-Bab. For that reason, IS increased its reinforcements there to protect the area from any land attack from Euphrates Shield forces. The forces also failed to take the town of Qabasin, located just northeast of al-Bab, despite violent battles with IS on Nov. 15, which resulted in the Euphrates Shield forces’ controlling the town for a few days.

Top Hamas leader in Gaza visits Egypt, 1st trip since 2013
[Ynet] Hamas Deputy Chief Ismail Haniyeh arrives in Egypt, the highest level visit by a member of the Palestinian militant group since Egypt's army overthrew an Islamist president in 2013; In recent months, Cairo has increased the number of people allowed out of Gaza and sent public signals that it is interested in improving relations.

Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, Deputy Chief Ismail Haniyeh
...became Prime Minister after the legislative elections of 2006 which Hamas won. President Mahmoud Abbas dismissed Haniyeh from office on 14 June 2007 at the height of the Fatah-Hamas festivities, but Haniyeh did not acknowledge the decree and continues as the PM of Gazoo while Abbas maintains a separate PM in the West Bank...
has arrived in Egypt for meetings with security officials, the highest level visit by a member of the Paleostinian bully boy group since Egypt's army overthrew an Islamist president in 2013.

Haniyeh arrived late Sunday, Egyptian security officials said, as Hamas officials confirmed the visit. All spoke on condition of anonymity as they were not authorized to brief news hounds.

For most of the past decade, Egypt had issued a blockade on Hamas-ruled Gazoo, stifling the economy and largely blocking its 2 million people from moving in and out of the territory. But after a three-year crackdown, signs are emerging that Egypt is easing the pressure in a step to repair its shattered ties with Hamas.

In recent months, Cairo has increased the number of people allowed to exit through the Rafah border crossing, Gazoo's main gateway to the outside world. It also has begun to allow Gazoo to import commercial goods through Rafah for the first time since 2013, and sent public signals that it is interested in improving relations.

Haniyeh left Gazoo in September to perform the Hajj pilgrimage in Mecca--the first time Egypt allowed him to leave the territory since Morsi's ouster.

He then went to Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates...
to see Hamas leader Khalid Mashaal and discuss issues including the group's upcoming elections. Mashaal is slated to step down from his position this spring, and Haniya is considered a strong candidate to replace him. Meshaal's deputy Moussa Abu Marzouk is the other main candidate.

What Do You Do if a Red State Moves to You?
Actually it looks like the other way around. Artsy-farts libs -- The sculptor, shepherd and weaver had moved from Minnesota’s Twin Cities because she found this area’s rolling hills bucolic and welcoming, just like the French aristocracy kept cows during the brief milkmaid fad before they lost their heads. They leave the grime and crime and corruption and still keep voting the same way so the grime, crime, and corruption will follow them like a plague at their heels...

...where God struck dead Anton LaVey, home of the Sydney Ducks, ruled by Vigilance Committee from 1859 through 1867, reliably and volubly Democrat since 1964...
and Hollywood and finally had a chance to show it in a big way. But Pepin County is one of those rural areas, and the resentment isn’t just directed at the coasts. It’s local. Here, the urban elite isn’t a faceless, distant other: It’s the enclave of liberal, mostly Twin Cities newcomers who have moved here over the past few decades--not just an abstract political imposition, but an actual physical presence. It has spawned anger and bitterness, a simmering undercurrent of alienation among many people locally born and raised. It has made "Democrat" mean something it didn’t mean a generation ago. And it was made manifest on November 8.

Pepin County represents not only the most compelling reasons Trump won but also the reasons so many liberals were so surprised. If more people from more places had been talking to the people of Pepin County--and if the people of Pepin County had been talking more to one another--the notion of a Trump victory wouldn’t have seemed farfetched in the least. But my interviews, with Democrats and Republicans alike, started to feel to me like listening to disconnected halves of conversations that had never occurred. And still weren’t.

"We have found a whole community here," said Pat Carlson, Wally Zick’s wife, "of very like-minded--it’s going to sound elite--but bookish, artsy, I’d say compassionate ... organic foodies, the whole nine yards. It’s all transplants. It’s mostly liberals." As for this election, and the locals, she continued, "I think they thought the liberal elite was looking down on them, and I guess, in some ways, we were. Because we couldn’t believe anybody would vote for Trump."

Zick described a fault line here between the old and the new, the people who have lived in the county forever and the move-ins from over the Minnesota border, clustered primarily on the southwestern end of the county. "They don’t come here," Zick said. "We don’t go there."

"We don’t know them," Carlson, 72, said.

The authors of this long piece seem to stumble right over the heart of the true conflict. The Trump and Clinton campaigns were just the symptoms. It's not urban vs rural. Nor is it Democrat vs Republican. It's not even liberal vs conservative. In a word it's Progressivism. Though neither political party is immune it's just that the Liberal democrats are the most highly susceptible hosts to this virulent strain. Watch out, they've made no secret of their plans. terrorist allies had until last year operated a camp near Misrata’s Libyan Iron and Steel Company (LISCO) and sailed regularly between the port city and Benghazi during the fight against the Libyan National Army.

The claim comes from former Ansar al-Sharia front man Naizar Jalal Atwier who was captured near Ajdabiya after the mass breakout from Ganfouda at the start of this month.

Atwier has given a broadcast confession during which he also said that the head of Tunisia’s Ansar al-Sharia, Saifullah Bin Hussein, known as "Abu Ayaz", was still in Ganfouda.

Atwier said that the camp near LISCO had been set up in 2014 and run until last year. He did not say why it had closed. He also said that he and other hard boyz had been able to travel by boat to Benghazi. On two occasions last year, craft believed to be used as terrorist supply vessels were blown up and sunk when they were moored alongside the loading dock at LISCO.

Atwier, dressed in an orange jumpsuit, told his TV interviewer that since Ganfouda had been cut off from supply by sea, conditions in the enclave had become bad.

When he was originally detained, Atwier had told his captors that Benghazi Death Eater leader Wissam Ben Hamid was dead, after being maimed in the chest and neck by shrapnel. Terrorist sources later denied Ben Hamid’s death.

Arabia
Democrats urged Obama to cease Yemen war role before Trump took over
[al-Monitor] Twenty-five House Democrats unsuccessfully wrote to President Barack Obama
I think when you spread the wealth around, it's good for everybody...
earlier this month to urge him to end US support for the Saudi-led campaign in Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic...
before Donald Trump

took over.

The Jan. 13 letter, led by habitual Yemen war critics Ted Lieu, D-Calif., and John Conyers, D-Mich., raises concerns that the United States is abetting "war crimes" by supporting Riyadh’s imprecise bombing campaign. It goes on to argue that the fight against the Iran-backed Houthi
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The Yemeni government has accused the Houthis of having ties to the Iranian government, which wouldn't suprise most of us. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews ...
rebels is doing little more than fueling terrorism.

"These Arclight airstrikes -- which have killed children, women, doctors, newlyweds and funeral mourners -- are likely war crimes," the letter states. "We respectfully ask you to do the right thing before you leave office and stop the US refueling of Coalition aircraft that strike civilian targets in Yemen."

News of the letter comes as the Trump administration signed off on its first Arclight airstrikes in Yemen, which are separate from the Saudi campaign and target different actors. Six al-Qaeda gunnies were reportedly killed Jan. 21 in a pair of US strikes in the Sawmaa region of al-Bayda province, while a local military instructor for al-Qaeda had been killed by a dronezap in the same province Jan. 20.

Trump himself has said little of substance about the war in Yemen, but is expected to support the Saudis against their regional foe, Iran -- as long as Riyadh pays up.

"Right now if you look at right now, we ... already defend Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
, right now, we’re defending them. Every time there’s a problem we go in and defend," he told Fox News a year ago. "And frankly, as far as I’m concerned, that’s all fine."

Congressional concerns about the Saudi-led effort have been growing since it began in March 2015. More than 10,000 people, half of them civilians, have been killed since then, according to the United Nations

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Israel grants local banks immunity from terror financing lawsuits – report
[IsraelTimes] 2-year exemption aims to keep Israeli banks from withdrawing financial services from the fragile Palestinian banking system

The state has reportedly granted two Israeli banks immunity from lawsuits accusing them of financing terrorism, in a bid to prevent them from ending cooperation with Paleostinian banks.

According to a report Sunday in the Haaretz daily, the unusual decision was taken by the cabinet last week out of concern that if Israeli banks end the crucial financial services they supply to their Paleostinian counterparts, it could lead to the collapse of the Paleostinian banking system and even the Paleostinian Authority.

The move comes after Israel’s Bank Hapoalim reportedly informed the government last year that it intended to end its services to Paleostinian banks out of fears it could face charges from overseas, particularly from the United States, for potentially violating terrorism funding and money laundering laws.

According to the report, Hapoalim is the main bank provider to Paleostinian banks of clearing, guarantees and other services that enable them to conduct international trade. Israel Discount Bank also works with the Paleostinian banks.

The two banks have asked the state to provide them with legal and financial protections, to facilitate their continued work with their Paleostinian counterparts.

The cabinet decided to approve the recommendations of a special team from the finance, justice, defense and foreign ministries, which had been working together with representatives of the intelligence community for 10 months to find a solution to the issue, the report said, quoting a bigwig.

The immunity would be given for a period of two years, during which the state would seek an alternative way to support the Paleostinian banks, the report said, most likely by transferring the responsibility from private banks to the government.

During that period, the Paleostinian banks would also work to improve on meeting international standards for combating money laundering and terror financing.

Government
Trump tells business leaders he wants to cut regulations by 75%
[CNBC] President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
told business leaders on Monday he believes he can cut regulations by 75 percent or "maybe more."

At the White House with 10 senior executives, he repeated his campaign pledges to roll back corporate rules, arguing that they have "gotten out of control." A White House front man did not immediately respond to a request to elaborate on which rules Trump will target or how the 75 percent was calculated.

"We're going to be cutting regulation massively," but the rules will be "just as protective of the people," Trump told news hounds at the meeting that included Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk and Under Armour CEO Kevin Plank.

Democrats and interest groups have expressed concern
...meaning the brow was mildly wrinkled, the eyebrows drawn slightly together, and a thoughtful expression assumed, not that anything was actually done or indeed that any thought was actually expended...
about Trump's plans to roll back B.O. regime environmental protections and pull out of the landmark Gay Paree climate accords, among other regulatory pledges.

In the wide-ranging statement Monday, Trump also reiterated campaign promises to cut taxes for businesses, saying he aims to get the business rate "down to anywhere from 15 to 20 percent" from the current 35 percent. He also said he wants to reward companies that manufacture in the U.S. and impose border taxes on products that American companies make abroad.

#1  I guess some regulation has already been removed - bleach bottle labels no longer include the % active ingredient. I need a certain concentration for my sewage system and can't tell if the 8% I need is now called 'concentrated' or is the plain 'bleach' bottle.

#3  Glenmore,
Normally household bleach is 5% by weight.

The basic equation translated from metric is
V1 x C1 = V2 x C2, where
V1 is the volume of what you want to measure in gallons
C1 is concentration in decimal
V2 is volume of chlorine needed in gallons
C2 is concentration of cholorine 5% or 0.05 or 5x 10^-2.
Solve for the unknown and there ya go.

38 ISIS Turban die in airstrike near Qaim

Anbar (IraqiNews.com) Airstrikes by fighter jets from the US-led coalition killed 38 members of the Islamic State militants in Anbar, some near the borders with Syria, on Monday.

Col. Walid al-Dailami, from the army’s Anbar Operations, said one of strikes targeted an IS location in al-Rabt, a region of the town of Qaem, near the Syrian borders, killing 33 at a training camp run by the group.

Meanwhile, Anbar’s top operations commander, Qassem al-Mohammadi, was quoted by AlMada Press as saying that five other militants were killed in coalition strikes at Wadi Muweil, west of the city of Ramadi. A booby-trapping workshop, a vehicle and a rocket launcher used by the group were also destroyed. he said.

IS has been holding Qaem, along with other few regions in western Anbar, since the group emerged in 2014 to proclaim a so-called “Islamic Caliphate”. Thousands of civilians are stranded under the group’s control and are barred from exiting.

The Iraqi army command in Anbar declared on the 5th of January the start of tribes-backed operations to retake IS remaining pockets in the province’s western regions. The operations lasted for a few days, recapturing a few villages, before halting again. Security sources said after the halt of operations that the government had decided to halt battles in Anbar until the end of operations in Mosul.

Iraqi and coalition fighter jets have, however, carried out regular strikes on Islamic State locations in the west. The group responded with stepping up several attacks in the past weeks that killed several security personnel.

On Sunday, Khalaf al-Jleibawi, a senior leader at al-Hashd al-Shaabi (Popular Mobilization Units), which fights IS with the government, said security forces had received confirmed information that several families of Islamic State militants had begun returning to the city of Ramadi, which security forces said they fully recaptured late 2015.

Iraqi kops detain 2 ISIS troops

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) Security forces from the Federal Police arrested two members of the Islamic State who attempted to assassinate a police officer in Abu Gharib area, west of Baghdad, a source told Al Ghad Press on Monday.

The source said, “Security forces from the Federal Police’s 5th intelligence brigade monitored three suspects in al-Kanisa Street in Abu Gharib area.”

“Security forces ambushed them and found that they were attempting to place an adhesive explosive device under the vehicle of a police officer in the area of Abu Gharib,” the source added.

Two of the suspects were arrested and then transferred to a security center, and after interrogation they confessed that they belong to the so-called Wilayat al-Janub of the Islamic State group.

At least 4 Somali soldiers killed in Afgoye Explosion
At least four Somali federal government soldiers were killed, and several wounded in a land mine blast at a military outpost in Afgoye district, about 30Km south-west of Mogadishu.

Local officials said the blast was caused by a bomb planted inside an army base in the town, which fell briefly to Al shabaab militants on Monday afternoon.

Several soldiers who have been wounded in the attack were rushed to a hospital in Mogadishu for treatment, according to an official, speaking on condition of anonymity.

The official added Al shabaab has intensified ambush attacks on Afgoye over the past few weeks, in an attempt to show its presence and destabilize the town’s overall security.
