House Passes Revised American Health Care Act
[Breitbart] House Republicans passed a revised version of the American Health Care Act (AHCA) on Thursday.

The bill passed after moderate Republicans fretted this week about how well the bill will protect patients with pre-existing conditions. Many, including former Energy and Commerce Committee chairman Fred Upton (R-MI), previously came out against the bill, but now support it after GOP leaders agreed to add an amendment adding $8 billion to help cover people with pre-existing conditions.

The vote comes after a tumultuous process for the bill, which has seen previously scheduled votes pulled after Speaker Paul Ryan failed to accumulate enough Republican support. Speaker Ryan received widespread criticism after drafting the bill in secret and retaining many parts of Obamacare. Pundits dubbed the original bill, "Ryancare."

House Freedom Caucus chairman Rep. Mark Meadows (R-NC) stepped up and brokered a revised version of the bill, known as the MacArthur amendment, along with Tuesday Group co-chairman Rep. Tom MacArthur (R-NJ). The addition of the amendment collected enough Republican votes to pass the bill.

Shulkin Mulls Closing 1,100 'Underutilized' VA Facilities
[NYT] WASHINGTON -- Veterans Affairs Secretary David Shulkin says his department is seeking to close perhaps more than 1,100 VA facilities nationwide as it develops plans to allow more veterans to receive medical care in the private sector.

At a House hearing Wednesday, Shulkin said the VA had identified more than 430 vacant buildings and 735 that he described as underutilized, costing the federal government $25 million a year. He said the VA would work with Congress in prioritizing buildings for closure and was considering whether to follow a process the Pentagon had used in recent decades to decide which of its underused military bases to shutter, known as Base Realignment and Closure, or BRAC.

"Whether BRAC is a model that we should take a look, we're beginning that discussion with members of Congress," Shulkin told a House appropriations subcommittee. "We want to stop supporting our use of maintenance of buildings we don't need, and we want to reinvest that in buildings we know have capital needs."

In an internal agency document obtained by The Associated Press, the VA pointed to aging buildings it was reviewing for possible closure that would cost millions of dollars to replace. It noted that about 57 percent of all VA facilities were more than 50 years old. Of the 431 VA buildings it said were vacant, most were built 90 or more years ago, according to agency data. The VA document did not specify the locations.

Oil prices plunge 4% below $46 a barrel
h/t Instapundit
Oil prices collapsed on Thursday to their lowest since late November as investor worries about the world's stubbornly persistent glut of crude erased most of the gains that followed last year's OPEC's output cut.

The slide worsened after OPEC delegates downplayed the chance that their group and other producing countries would deepen their output cuts when they meet on May 25. They did say current output cuts were likely to be extended.

Brent crude oil futures were down $2.31, or 4.6 percent, at $48.48 a barrel by 1:27 p.m. (1727 GMT). U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures fell $2.25, or 4.7 percent, at $45.57 a barrel.

They won't get it. Seriously. You've crossed a line when you can look at Islam, and then blithely worry about "others" might over-react to it. There is *nothing* that I would consider to be an "over-reaction" to Islam. All its missing is the Swastika, and that's even present (the Crescent) but it gets no traction in that regard.

New Evidence Bolsters Probability that Hillary Clinton Was Hacked
[AmericanThinker] We the American people were told repeatedly by Hillary Clinton and her proxies during the endless 2016 presidential election that her brazen use of a personal, unsecure email server to traffic some of the nation’s most sensitive secrets was not a problem, because her email system was never hacked. But was this really the case? I believe emails divulged by Judicial Watch suggest that her computer may well have been compromised by hostile actors.

FBI Director James Comey told us in his extraordinary July 5, 2016 statement to the media announcing his decision not to seek Mrs. Clinton’s prosecution for her email set-up: "With respect to potential computer intrusion by hostile actors, we did not find direct evidence that Secretary Clinton’s personal email domain, in its various configurations since 2009, was successfully hacked."

Mrs. Clinton herself told us on October 9, 2016 in the second presidential debate against Donald Trump: "After a yearlong investigation, there is no evidence that anyone hacked the server I was using and no evidence that anyone can point to at all; anyone who says otherwise has no basis."

I believe Judicial Watch may have unearthed the "smoking gun" revealing just such a compromise, or at least an attempt to hack Mrs. Clinton’s system. At the very least, I believe this finding should have been investigated by federal authorities if they were aware of it. If they were not aware of it, or were aware, but have not investigated it to date, they should do so now.

The discovery of this information and its possible significance requires some explanation.

In the fourteenth production of Huma Abedin’s emails transmitted from her clintonemail.com account that Judicial Watch obtained as a result of litigation against the State Department, on Page 287, we see a very interesting email exchange occurring between Ms. Abedin and Mrs. Clinton on November 20, 2009. Mrs. Clinton had received an email from someone she clearly did not know, named Jonathan Weston. His signature block in his email to Mrs. Clinton indicated that he was a Congressional Liaison Coordinator with something called the US-China Economic and Security Review Commission, based in Washington, DC. The email bears a subject line which should raise the hack antennae of anyone who has been using a computer for more than a week: "I Thought You Might Enjoy This."

The body of Mr. Weston’s email (or whoever sent the email over his name) is fairly sophisticated. It is six paragraphs long, addressed to "Dear Colleagues," and describes the contents of a report produced by Mr. Weston’s organization on Chinese economic policy.

There are three potentially alarming aspects to this email exchange.

First, the writer, Mr. Weston, indicates that there is a file attached to the email. The file is supposed to be the report produced by the US-China Economic and Security Review Commission described in the email. Files attached to emails are notorious for containing viruses.

Second, Mrs. Clinton forwarded the email on to Ms. Abedin, with the note: "Pls print. And who is he?" This off-hand comment reveals that Mrs. Clinton, the US Secretary of State and one of the most powerful people in the world, whose communications would be coveted by foreign intelligence services, is receiving an email from someone she doesn’t know on a personal email account presumably known only by a select group of family, friends and confidantes. It also implies, given her direction to Ms. Abedin to print the message, that she was interested in its content and may have clicked on the attached file.

Third ‐ and here’s our Sherlock Holmesian "There you have it, Watson!" moment ‐ when the email hit Ms. Abedin’s computer, her antivirus program added the prefix "*** VIRUS ***" to the subject line of the email.

But this is no laughing matter.

In a search of the State Department’s "Virtual Reading Room," where it posts documents that it has released through FOIA requests, to see if this email exchange had been published by the State Department before Judicial Watch received it, I discovered that it had, but the version previously published by the State Department was apparently obtained from Hillary Clinton’s computer records, not Ms. Abedin’s. The State Department’s previously released version did not contain the virus warning. This suggests that Mrs. Clinton’s computer did not have an anti-virus program, or at least not one able to detect that this email from Mr. Weston contained a virus. Ms. Abedin’s computer, however, did have an anti-virus program and did detect the virus, based on the VIRUS warning in the subject line after Mrs. Clinton forwarded it to Ms. Abedin.

Did Mrs. Clinton click on the file the email contained, thereby possibly introducing a virus into her computer? Was Mrs. Clinton’s computer thereby compromised by a malevolent actor? Has the FBI seen this email exchange and questioned Mr. Weston about it? Did they ask Mrs. Clinton if she clicked on the attachment that was in this email?

Jonathan Weston does exist, and he did work for a real think tank in Washington, DC called the US-China Economic and Security Commission from October 2009 to March 2013, according to his LinkedIn profile. Interestingly, Mr. Weston’s own organization, the US-China Economic and Security Commission, was revealed in 2012 to have been the target of a major cyber-attack, reportedly emanating from India. In a 2012 Reuters article discussing the attack, in an irony of ironies, Mr. Weston -- listed as a "spokesman" for the organization -- was quoted about the impact of the attack on his employer.

We know from the Wikileaks disclosures of John Podesta’s emails and those of other Democratic National Committee employees that he and his staff were the victim of a spearphishing attack, which IT specialists have claimed the Russians perpetrated. According to an IT specialist whom I consulted, the email Mrs. Clinton received from Mr. Weston also bears the hallmarks of a spearphishing attack.

As former US Attorney for the Southern District of New York, Andrew McCarthy, has laid out in typically brilliant fashion in National Review, Mrs. Clinton could, and should, have been criminally charged for her egregious violations of law with regard to the handling of classified national security information. He makes this charge notwithstanding a recent epic apologia of FBI Director James Comey’s dereliction found in the New York Times. As Mr. McCarthy points out in NR, Mrs. Clinton’s use of an unsecure email system during her tenure as secretary of state "almost certainly caused the compromise of government secrets to foreign intelligence services."

In a sane world, it would seem that federal investigators should try to learn if in fact Mr. Weston’s email was the source of a virus, and whether Mrs. Clinton clicked on a virus-laden file. But in a sane world, she would have already been charged.

#1  If that server wasn't hacked it was just dumb luck. There are plenty of bad actors out there who certainly tried and if her cyber security measures were as sadly lacking as the DNC's the hackers were most likely successful. Again, when you're that ignorant and stupid you can't really blame the Russians.

Either way she was felony stupid and her intentions were certainly not innocent.

Pentagon Suspends Security Clearance of Trump White House Aide
[Free Beacon] The Pentagon this week suspended the security clearance of a White House National Security Council analyst that U.S. officials say was the target of political retribution by government bureaucrats opposed to President Trump's appointees.

Adam S. Lovinger, a 12-year strategic affairs analyst with the Pentagon's Office of Net Assessment (ONA), has been on loan to the NSC since January when he was picked for the position by then-National Security Adviser Michael T. Flynn.
Sending along a recommended reading by Dow.
Lovinger was notified in a letter from the Pentagon on Monday that his Top-Secret, Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS-SCI) clearance had been suspended and that he had to return to the Pentagon.

The letter cited unspecified outside activities by Lovinger. The notice said the suspension was approved by Kevin Sweeney, chief of staff for Defense Secretary James Mattis.

One official said Lovinger was targeted by Trump opponents because of his conservative views and ties to Flynn, specifically his past association with the Flynn Intel Group, Inc., a consulting business.

Skipping down a bit to potential causes and outcomes:

Lovinger is senior director for strategic assessments at the NSC. In that position, he has proposed shifting the Office of Net Assessment from the Pentagon to the White House, where it was located when established during the Nixon administration.

Lovinger wrote a memo to current National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster on the need for a net assessment capability within the NSC.
When did net-assessments become a bad thing? Perhaps he recommended that someone at Mike Flynn's FIG do the assessment? Yea, that might have been a bridge too far. Sorry pal, it's back to the 'Five Sided Nut' for you.

Fmr US Atty Joe DiGenova: 'James Comey Is A Danger To The Country' (Video)
[FOX] Former United States Attorney for the District of Columbia Joe DiGenova slammed FBI Director James Comey as "a danger to the country."

DiGenova, who served under President Reagan, said Comey's narcissism led him to take unnecessary and troubling steps during the Hillary Clinton email probe.

He said Comey should have been fired after his 2016 news conference in which he announced he would not recommend Clinton's prosecution.

Gender Bias Study by Women Researchers Suffers From Gender Bias
h/t Instapundit
[HeatStreet] Internet feminists are outraged after a scientific journal told a group of female researchers that their work on gender bias in academia was gender biased.

Two female evolutionary geneticists collaborated on the piece, which claimed that fewer women Ph.D. candidates were published by established scientific journals, leading them to believe, based on interviews with women across the scientific fields, that the publishing industry was biased against female scientists.
Not clear that the above has to do with evolutionary biology - but typical. (I wonder if it somebody I know?) The reason females are published less because - unlike female professors of my youth, who got in on being better than average, nowadays its cuteness + the ability to game the system.
When they submitted their article to a journal that specializes in publishing research on diversity in the fields of science and medicine, a reviewer suggested that the women include a male voice in their study, just to show that they, themselves, were not coming at the issue from a position of gender bias.
Which, I guess, was her way (in today's climate, a male wouldn't be asked to review a paper like this - and, if asked, wouldn't dare to criticize) of saying "your article has no original research, and your conclusions are twaddle

Rocket attack on UN camp in Mali kills one, wounds 9
[AlAhram] Shelling and rocket fire on a UN camp in Mali's troubled Timbuktu killed one yet to be identified person and maimed nine peacekeepers, the United Nations
...a formerly good idea gone bad...
mission said Wednesday.

It is the latest attack to hit the mission, known as MINSUMA, stationed in the country since 2013 and considered its most dangerous active peacekeeping deployment.

"A mortar and rocket attack was launched against the MINUSMA camp in Timbuktu," a UN statement said.

"The provisional toll is nine maimed among the peacekeepers, four seriously who are being evacuated to Bamako. The attack also killed one person, they are still being identified," it added.

The UN mission said it had reinforced the camp's defences and deployed air cover to identify where the enemy fire had originated, describing it as a "terrorist" attack.

Sweden's armed forces confirmed one of its soldiers was maimed, though not severely. "A Swedish soldier was lightly injured and is now being cared for by the Swedish medical unit," it said in a statement.

Liberia's armed forces, who also have peacekeepers among the mission, also confirmed "several injuries and other casualties", according to Prince Johnson, deputy chief of staff, but would not specify more.

"We are investigating the matter," he added.

Northern Mali fell to Islamist Lion of Islam groups linked to al-Qaeda in March 2012, and although these forces were driven out of key towns by a French-led military intervention the following year, the Islamists have now spread further south.

The 13,000-strong UN mission was deployed to provide security and assist Malian troops struggling to keep the country safe, but it has been targeted constantly by Islamist Lion of Islams, with dozens of peacekeepers killed.

Three Malian Islamist Lion of Islam groups with previous al-Qaeda links recently joined forces to create the "Group to Support Islam and Moslems" (GSIM), led by Iyad Ag Ghaly of Ansar Dine

Nine Malian soldiers were killed and five maimed Tuesday, an attack that has become near routine in the country's north and centre.

Malaysia arrests two Turks suspected of threatening national security
[AlAhram] Malaysian police have placed in durance vile
Drop the gat, Rocky, or you're a dead 'un!
two Turks, including the head of an international school, suspected of activities threatening national security, police chief Khalid Abu Bakar said.

The men, school head Turgay Karaman and businessman Ihsan Aslan, were arrested on Tuesday under a section of the penal code related to "terrorist acts", he said in a Tweet.

No further details of their alleged activities in Moslem-majority Malaysia were immediately available.

The police confirmation came after Karaman was seen on CCTV recordings circulated on social media being forced into an unmarked car by five unknown men at a carpark in a suburb of Kuala Lumpur.

A police report was filed on Karaman's disappearance by a friend on Tuesday night.

Aslan was also reported missing by his wife on Tuesday night after she failed to hear from him for more than a day.

Karaman's lawyer, Rosli Dahlan, told Rooters that the disappearances bore similarities to a case in October when two Turks were reported missing and later discovered to have been deported to The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
He denied speculation that the men were supporters of U.S-based Moslem holy man Fethullah Gulen
... a Turkish preacher living in Pennsylvania whom the current govt of Turkey considers responsible for all the ills afflicting Turkey and possibly the entire world...
, who is being blamed by Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan for orchestrating a failed coup last year. Gulen denies any involvement in the failed coup in which more than 230 people were killed.

"They are academics. They have not been charged for any Gulen activities," Rosli said.

Turkey has applied pressure to other countries that are home to institutions backed by Gulen, whose Hizmet movement runs about 2,000 educational establishments around the world.

Human Rights Watch on Wednesday said the two men should not be forcibly sent to Turkey, and called for an urgent investigation.

"There is little doubt that if they are returned to Turkey, they will face torture in detention, and if charged with crimes there, be subjected to a trial that will fall far short of fair trial standards," Phil Robertson, Deputy Asia Director of Human Rights Watch, said in a statement.

The Revolution in Venezuela Won’t be Televised- It'll be on the Internet
Television is mostly silent about deadly protests as President Nicolas Maduro pushes for a new constitution. Instead, people are turning to visual forms of social media barely available to Venezuelans three years ago — Instagram and Snapchat stories, live videos on Facebook and Twitter, and WhatsApp chat rooms — to transmit and consume information.

The opposition and government compete to shape the national narrative there. Maduro’s administration sends a stream of anodyne images as protesters send out up-to-the-minute updates of arrests and violence.

For example, dueling May 1 marches in Caracas drew thousands of supporters on both sides. While the opposition posted images of national guard troops firing tear-gas canisters at protesters, pro-government accounts showed of smiling supporters dressed in red at a peaceful rally.

“There has been an increase in the number of people using smart phones, because they know there is no information on the regular television and radio channels in conventional media,” said Andres Canizalez, a communications professor at the Andres Bello University in Caracas. “Opposition politicians used to complain that traditional media didn’t give them any space, but they understand the change that’s occurring with the young people now and have turned toward social media to get their message out.”

Still, about 30 percent of the population does not have access to either an Internet connection or smart phone and relies on the government and over-the-air television stations for information, he said. That’s why the government was so quick to shut down or censor television stations that broadcast coverage it didn’t like.

While Maduro ordered an investigation into Spain’s Telefonica SA’s local Movistar unit last month, claiming it helped opponents deliver text messages promoting protests, Venezuela’s government is for now competing on social networks instead of shutting them down.

“To counteract this situation of hyperconnectivity, the government has created its own digital militias, because it knows people are looking for information in other places,” Canizalez said. “But many people only have access to simply text messaging, and that’s why you’ve seen the government starting to try and control that.”

Lynch-Clinton Tarmac meeting: More BS from James Comey
[Free Beacon] FBI Director James Comey testified Wednesday before the Senate Judiciary Committee that the airport tarmac meeting between then-Attorney General Loretta Lynch and former President Bill Clinton last June showed the Justice Department could not credibly investigate Hillary Clinton's email practices.

Clinton and Lynch met privately in Phoenix after both of them realized they were on the same airport tarmac, immediately raising questions about the independence of the Justice Department that was in the process of investigating then-presidential candidate Hillary Clinton's use of a private email server.

"Our conversation was a great deal about grandchildren, it was primarily social about our travels and he mentioned golf he played in Phoenix," Lynch said last June, defending her meeting with Clinton.

Comey was concerned with the meeting regardless of Lynch's defense, and said that he lived his whole life caring about the credibility and integrity of the criminal justice process.

"A number of things had gone on which I can't talk about yet, that made me worry that the department leadership could not credibly complete the investigation and decline prosecution without grievous damage to the American people's confidence in the justice system," Comey said.

"And then the capper was‐and I'm not picking on the attorney general, Loretta Lynch, who I like very much‐but her meeting with President Clinton on that airplane was the capper for me, and I then said, you know what, the department cannot, by itself, credibly end this," he said.

The Grand Turk
Turkey threatens to strike U.S. forces partnered with Kurds
That seems unwise.
[WASHINGTONTIMES] The war of words between Washington and Ankara over the U.S. military’s partnership with Kurdish paramilitaries in Syria escalated Wednesday, when a senior aide to Turkish President Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him...
suggested American troops could be targeted alongside their Kurdish allies in the country’s ongoing air war against the militias.

Senior presidential aide Ilnur Cevik said U.S. forces who are teamed up with members of the Kurdish People’s Protection Units, or YPG, were in danger of being hit by Turkish fighters patrolling the volatile border region with Syria.

If YPG units and their American military advisers "go too far, our forces would not care if American armor is there, whether armored carriers are there," Mr. Cevik said during an interview on Turkish radio station CRI TURK Wednesday. "All of a sudden, by accident, a few rockets can hit them," he added, referring to partnered U.S. forces.

When asked to clarify that U.S. advisers or artillery positions would be in danger from Turkish warplanes, if they continued to support YPG operations in northern Syria, Mr. Cevik replied bluntly that they would.

His comments come days after U.S. forces moved into the Syrian Kurdish enclave of Rojava, in a dramatic show of solidarity amid Turkish Arclight airstrikes targeting those U.S.-backed forces there. The strikes were part of an ongoing counterterrorism operation targeting members of the YPG, which The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
has condemned as a terrorist organization.

Arabia
Powerful Saudi Prince Says no Space for Dialogue with Iran
[An Nahar] Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
's deputy crown prince said Tuesday in a rare and wide-ranging interview that there is no space for dialogue with rival Iran due to its Shiite ambitions "to control the Islamic world."

The interview, which aired on multiple Saudi TV channels, offered a glimpse into how Mohammed bin Salman views the kingdom's top rival. It also laid bare the breadth of his portfolio and powers.

The 31-year-old prince, who was named in 2015 by his father, King Salman
...either the largest species of Pacific salmon or the current Sheikh of the Burnin' Sands, Cutodian of the Two Holy Mosquesand Lord of Most of the Arabians....
, as an eventual heir to the throne, is Saudi Arabia's defense minister, overseeing the war in Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic...
against a rebel group aligned with Iran. He also oversees economic matters and is behind a bold program to overhaul the Saudi economy.

Framing the tensions with Iran in sectarian terms, he said it is Iran's goal "to control the Islamic world" and to spread its Shiite doctrine in preparation for the arrival of a revered imam named Mohammed al-Mahdi. Shiite Moslems believe al-Mahdi, the 12th and last Shiite imam, who disappeared in the 9th century, will one day reappear to bring justice to Earth.

Car Bomb Kills Five in Syria Border Town
[An Nahar] A boom-mobile blast killed at least five people on Wednesday in the rebel-held Syrian town of Azaz by the Turkish border, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

The dead were four civilians and a police officer, the Britannia-based monitor said, adding that the toll could rise because a number of those maimed were at death's door.

The blast littered the ground with debris and set an enormous fire that sent thick clouds of black smoke billowing into the air.

Civil defence workers and residents tried to put out the blaze.

The blast hit near a mosque and the headquarters of the opposition's provisional government
The dead were placed in black body bags, next to which grief-stricken mourners sat weeping or staring in shock.

The blast hit near a mosque and the headquarters of the opposition's provisional government, formed in November 2013, which administers some areas under rebel control.

Azaz has regularly been targeted in kabooms, including on January 7, when at least 48 people were killed in a tanker truck blast.

Kurd, Turkish army troops fighting near Rojava
[ARA News] The Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) said on Wednesday that the Turkish army carried out 67 attacks along the border with Rojava-northern Syria during the month of April.

The YPG leadership confirmed in an official statement, obtained by ARA News, that 35 attacks were done by tanks, 24 with various kinds of heavy weapons, seven attacks by missiles, in addition to air strikes.

The YPG said they responded 16 times to the Turkish attacks, destroying several vehicles.

On 25 April, Turkish air strikes killed 20 YPG fighters in the Karacok mountain near Derik, in Syria’s northeastern Hasakah province.

After the attacks, US troops visited the bombed area. The American forces also patrolled the border between Rojava and Turkey on 28 April to prevent more attacks.

Furthermore, on 30 April, Russian troops were deployed near Afrin to inspect the border with Turkey to deter more Turkish attacks.

Turkish attacks continued this month. On Wednesday, the Turkish army shot at the Kurdish Asayish checkpoint at the western entrance of Kobane city.

Furthermore, Turkish-backed rebels attacked the town of Qastel Jendo, close to the town of Efrin in the Aleppo province.

In the meantime, the YPG said that its units and allied Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have liberated 800 square kilometers in the countryside of Raqqa–the ISIS’ de facto capital in Syria.

Moreover, the YPG said that 95 per cent of the strategic town of Tabqa was liberated, with dozens of ISIS fighters trapped in small pockets in the city.

Afghanistan
27 Bad Guys die in Helmand
At least 27 insurgents were killed in an Afghan police force operation in southern Helmand province on Tuesday, public order police said in a statement on Wednesday.

The operation was conducted in Garemsir district of the province to clear the area of insurgents, according to the statement.

However, the statement did not provide more details about the operation nor about casualties among security forces.

This comes just days after U.S Marines returned to the province, two years after the NATO combat mission ended in the country.

The Marines were the first U.S Forces to be sent to Afghanistan after the September 11, 2001 attack on the United States.

For years they were engaged in often heavy fighting in the volatile province, however the new deployment of about 300 Marines will form part of Resolute Support’s train, advise and assist mission.

The deployment of Marines also came one day after the Taliban announced the launch of its spring offensive. In a statement, the group warned it would increase its campaign of bombings, ambush attacks, complex attacks and IED operations.

The Marines arrival also comes just days after reports emerged that the Trump administration is evaluating plans to send as many as 5,000 additional U.S troops to Afghanistan.

Huma Abedin Fwd Beest's Classified Emails To Husband, Anthony Weiner [VIDEO]
[Daily Caller] Huma Abedin forwarded Hillary Clinton’s emails, some of them classified, to her disgraced husband, Anthony Weiner, FBI Director James Comey revealed on Wednesday.

"[Weiner’s] then-spouse, Huma Abedin, appears to have had a regular practice of forwarding emails to forward to him, I think, to print out for her so she could deliver them to the secretary of state," Comey told the Senate Judiciary Committee during an oversight hearing.

Comey reopened the FBI investigation into Clinton’s email practices in October after agents discovered that a laptop owned by Weiner and Abedin contained Clinton’s emails. The laptop was seized as part of a separate investigation into Weiner’s contacts with a 15-year-old girl.

Asked whether Weiner, a former New York congressman, read the emails Abedin forwarded to him, Comey said he did not think that was the case.

"I don’t think we have been able to interview him because he has pending criminal problems of other sorts. But my understanding is that his role would be to print them out as a matter of convenience," said Comey.

I believe it. You expect Hillary to learn how to print her own emails? You expect her to just read it from the screen? No. She is among the class of supposedly highly intelligent and powerful individuals who are absolutely computer illiterate and actually not all that intelligent either. She certainly cannot be bothered to perform mundane tasks like printing her own "hard copies" when a chump like Weiner is there to do it for her.

Just like her chump friend John Podesta, a supposedly highly intelligent and powerful individual, who couldn't even recognize a phishing scam that most 13-year-old kids would have laughed at. He got hacked and tried to blame it on the Russians but when you're that stupid you have only yourself to blame.

Iraq
Baghdad Bomb and Bullet Bulletin

1 dead in 2 bomb attacks

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) One person was killed, two others were injured in two IED blasts in Baghdad, news reports quoted security sources as saying on Wednesday.

A teacher was killed as a bomb placed under a vehicle exploded, the source said, adding that the blast occurred while the vehicle was passing at al-Zidan region in Abu Ghraib, western Baghdad.

In another blast, two persons were wounded as a bomb exploded in Nahrawan district, southeast of Baghdad.

“A bomb was planted near a workshop that sells aluminium in Nahrawan. The blast left two civilians wounded,” another source said.

Violence and armed conflicts claimed the lives of 317 Iraqis, and caused injuries to 403 others during the month of April, according to a monthly count by the United Nations Assistance Mission in Iraq (UNAMI).

The total figure of victims signalled a drop from 1115 victims in March.

Nineveh, where U.S.-backed Iraqi government troops are caught up in battles against Islamic State militants in Mosul since October, came on top of the most affected governorate, with 276 casualties (153 killed, 123 injured). Baghdad Governorate came next with 55 killed and 179 injured. Salahuddin came third, with 15 killed and 43 injured.

Iraqi security forces stop attack on roadblock near Ramadi

Ramadi (IraqiNews.com) A security force thwarted an attack by Islamic State militants on a road security unit west of Anbar, security sources were quoted saying Wednesday.

Alsumaria News, quoting the sources, said the attack targeted a security deployment at the “140th Kilometer” region at a highway west of the city of Ramadi.

The security force seized a vehicle used by the attackers that was laden with RPG missiles, according to the source.

The attack comes as Islamic State militants escalate assaults on government and paramilitary forces in Anbar, especially at al-Rutba region, leaving several personnel dead. Ten soldiers were killed on Tuesday and six were wounded in an Islamic State attack that targeted an army checkpoint in Rutba. Several other army members died in April in occasional attacks.

Iraqi and U.S.-led coalition fighter jets have regularly pounded locations held by the Islamic State at the stronghold towns of Annah, Qaim and Rawa, west of Anbar. killing dozens of militants. Thousands of civilians are thought to be held in Islamic State captivity at those locations. Iraqi defense officials say they will launch a major security offensive in Anbar once they is done with their U.S.-backed campaign to drive out IS from Mosul, the group’s principal stronghold in Iraq, which has been running since October 2016.

On Wednesday, Ramadi’s mayor, Ibrahim al-Janabi, told Iraqi network NRT that security challenge persist in the province with the escalation of IS attacks. He said getting over those challenges remain contingent upon securing the highway linking Iraq and Jordan.

“Islamic State attacks against security forces will continue if borders with Syria are not closed completely.”

Combat in Yemen's al-Bayda intensifies
Taiz- Armed conflict intensified in al-Bayda battle fronts, Yemen, following an assault staged by members of the Popular Resistance against Houthi and Saleh militias and the seizure of strategic locations.

Militias in their turn continued to randomly shell houses in Dhi Na’im and Az Zahir districts as well as farms in Rada’a, leading to huge material losses.

Colonel Abdullah al-Humaikani told Asharq Al-Awsat that “members of the Popular Resistance are still confronting militias with their personal potentials and have achieved great gains on the ground in restoring control over strategic whereabouts, following violent battles that caused enormous human and material losses.”

Saada Media Center affirmed in a statement published on Facebook that dozens of killed and injured Houthis reached directories of Sa’dah.

“Most of the killed and injured were targeted by Arab Coalition air force,” the statement added.

Yemen’s Prime Minister Ahmed Obeid bin Daghr addressed the Ministry of Finance to quickly disburse salaries to civil employees in Taiz according to the state budget of 2014.

The prime minister stated that the government has paid the salaries for civil and military personnel in the liberated provinces and is working hard on disbursing them in provinces controlled by rebels, reported Yemen News Agency (Saba).

He underscored the importance of militias committing to export revenues to the central bank in the temporary capital, Aden so that the government fulfills as well its commitments towards employees in all provinces with no exception.

Daghr ordered allocating one million dollars to cover the additional needs of the injured in Taiz, given that the Ministry of Public Health and Population will supervise the process.

This took place 24 hours after the local authority in Taiz called on the Ministry of Finance and the Central Bank of Yemen to accelerate the disbursement of salaries to the employees and retired officers.

Four soldiers and three civilians die in latest Benghazi violence
[Libya Herald] More death and destruction came to Benghazi today when three non-combatants were killed in a rocket attack and four sappers perished when a mine went kaboom! while they were tackling it.

The non-combatants were killed when a rocket hit a building in Shibna which is part of the city’s Hay Dollar district. Accounts differ on the number of maimed but between seven and 14 people were take to al-Jalaa hospital, some wth serious injuries. It is reported that turbans are claiming the rocket attack was in retaliation for air strikes on their positions in Sabri during which some of their number were killed.

There is less information about the death of four mine clearance experts in Sabri. The men from the Libyan National Army (LNA) engineers were trying to defuse an bomb when it detonated killing all of them.

Nuri Abu Sahmain resurfaces in Guinea, along with Khalifa Ghwell
[Libya Herald] After a year’s absence from the political limelight, former General National Congress president Nuri Abu Sahmain has arrived in Conarky today for talks on Libya with Guinea president Alpha Condé. He was accompanied by his deputy Awad Abdul Saddeq and self-declared "prime minister" Khalifa Ghwell.

Condé, who took over the chairmanship of the African Union
...a union consisting of 53 African states, most run by dictators of one flavor or another. The only all-African state not in the AU is Morocco. Established in 2002, the AU is the successor to the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), which was even less successful...
(AU) in January, is hosting a series of meetings with Libyan key players as part of the AU’s efforts at mediation. A month ago, House of Representatives President Ageela Saleh was in the Guinean capital for similar talks and it was announced at the time that other Libyan political figures were going to be invited.

Neither Abu Sahmain nor Abdul Saddeq have been politically active of late although Ghwell continues to maintain that he is Libya’s sole legitimate prime minister. He and his supporters, however, were largely driven from Tripoli

The search was conducted in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 2292 (2016).

The EUNAVFOR Med did not give further information regarding the destination of the vessel and the group that was behind it.

The incident took place around 8 am local time in the vicinity of the 9th police district of the city as the coalition forces convoy was crossing the area located close to the US Embassy and other key government compounds, including the supreme court of Afghanistan.

Case against 200 for lynching two ‘robbers’
[DAWN] BAHAWALPUR: The Lodhran Saddar police on Tuesday started the paperwork but haven't done much else against 200 people on the charges of lynching two suspected robbers in a nearby village.

Police said hundreds of people tortured two persons who, along with an accomplice, were suspected to have entered the house of Muhammad Nawaz at Chatti village to commit a robbery.

As Nawaz’s family raised hue and cry, they said, the suspects took to the heels but the villagers began to chase them. They overpowered two suspects and brutally tortured them as a result of which one of them, who was later identified as Arif, died.

A Saddar police team reached the place and rescued the other man, Falakshair, and shifted him to the District Headquarters Hospital, Lodhran, where he also expired. Their accomplice made good his escape.

The police claimed that the dear departed had criminal record and were wanted in several cases. The Saddar police started the paperwork but haven't done much else against 200 attackers, 18 of them nominated in the FIR.

Lodhran District Police Officer Asad Sarfraz Khan is said to have condemned the mob and said those who took law in their hands also deserved to be punished.

Death penalty for three in suicide attack case upheld
[DAWN] A Lahore High Court division bench on Tuesday upheld death penalty handed down to three men for their role in Police Emergency Rescue Service-15 building suicide kaboom.

The bench comprising Justice Sadaqat Ali Khan and Justice Shehram Sarwar dismissed appeals against the sentence filed by convicts Abid Akram, Sarfraz and Shabbir.

Counsel for the convicts argued that his clients were already in jug of law enforcement agencies when the suicide attack took place in 2009.

He said the FIR of the incident was lodged against unidentified suspects while the convicts were later implicated in the case.

The counsel argued that though prosecution failed to produce any direct or independent evidence against the convicts, the trial court awarded death sentence to them.

He asked the bench to set aside the conviction and acquit the convicts.

Opposing the appeals, a deputy public prosecutor argued that the convicts were the controllers of the attack. He said Shahdara police had incarcerated
... anything you say can and will be used against you, whether you say it or not...
the convicts on Dec 3, 2010 and during the interrogation they (convicts) confessed to their involvement in the Rescue-15 suicide attack.

The prosecutor further stated that police had also recovered weapons from the convicts’ possession. He said the trial court had handed down the death penalty to the convicts in the light of convincing evidence produced by the prosecution.

After hearing both sides, the bench dismissed the appeals and upheld the conviction of the appellants.

An anti-terrorism court had on Jan 30, 2015 handed down death penalty to each convict on 23 counts. At least 26 people, including security personnel, had bit the dust in the attack while over 300 were maimed.

group.

The kaboom, which came during morning rush hour on a busy road near the US embassy and NATO headquarters, killed "mostly" civilians, an interior ministry front man told AFP without giving a breakdown.

NATO said three coalition service members had received "non-life threatening wounds" in the attack.

"(They) are in stable, pH balanced condition, and are currently being treated at coalition medical facilities," a front man for US Forces-Afghanistan said, without confirming their nationalities.

IS grabbed credit for the blast via its Amaq propaganda agency, saying the eight dead were all American soldiers. The gunnies are known to exaggerate their claims.

N. Korea State Media Confirms Arrest of US Professor
[An Nahar] North Korea on Wednesday confirmed the arrest of a US professor for trying to "overturn" the regime, as tensions spike between the isolated nuclear-armed nation and Washington.

Kim Sang-Duk, or Tony Kim, became the third American held in the North when he was detained at the capital's airport on April 22 as he tried to leave the country, after teaching for several weeks at an elite university.

In the North's first confirmation of the professor's detention, the official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said he had been held for "committing criminal acts of hostility aimed to overturn the DPRK", using an abbreviation for the country's official name.

It added that Kim was "under detention by a relevant law enforcement body which is conducting detailed investigation into his crimes".

The confirmation of Kim's detention comes as Pyongyang issues increasingly belligerent rhetoric in a tense stand off with the administration of new US President Donald Trump

Somalia announces plan to defeat al-Shabaab
[SHABELLENEWS] Somali President Mohammed Abdullahi said Wednesday his government -- elected in February this year -- had strategized to defeat the myrmidon group al-Shabaab
... the Islamic version of the old Somali warlord...
in two years.

"Al-Shabaab has been active in Somalia for the last ten years causing huge destruction," Abdullahi said during a joint news conference in the Æthiopian capital, Addis Ababa following a close session with Æthiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn.

Al-Shabaab is intent on expanding its reach to neighboring countries, and that gives a reason for cooperation against the menace posed by the myrmidon group, the Somali president added.

He praised the support provided in this regard by Æthiopia and Kenya as well as the African Union
...a union consisting of 53 African states, most run by dictators of one flavor or another. The only all-African state not in the AU is Morocco. Established in 2002, the AU is the successor to the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), which was even less successful...
Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).

"AMISOM has been working together with government and the sacrifices of [men in uniform] of neighboring countries will not go in vain," he said, commending the regional collaboration against the al-Qaeda affiliated group.

Æthiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn, for his part, said his discussion with the Somali president was on "major pertinent issues" including the fight against terrorism, the current drought that affects both countries as well as development cooperation.

"We sink or swim together," Hailemariam said. "We cannot thrive leaving other nations behind."

The prime minister added that lack of security in Somalia would ultimately affect neighboring countries by way of a spillover effect.

Bedouins Burn ISIS Fighter, Urge All Sinai Tribes to Kick Terrorists to Curb
[PJMEDIA] A Bedouin tribe in the Sinai peninsula said it set an ISIS fighter ablaze as a response to a threat from the terror group, and called on all tribes to unite and battle the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. together.

As ISIS has been losing territory in Iraq and Syria, their Sinai chapter has expanded its reach, even establishing a inquisitors religious police force that has been terrorizing residents who smoke cigarettes or shave. ISIS also threatened residents against cooperating with the army and police.

That, along with ISIS spreading fake news that they had killed 40 members of the al-Tarabeen tribe, drove the Bedouins to snatch an ISIS leader and film their own video of his death, the tribe told al-Arabiya.

They said the man had killed three Sinai residents and a police and burned their bodies, so the Bedouins set him on fire. That's employing the Islamic principle of qisas, killing a killer in the manner by which the victim was murdered. ISIS tried to use the same reasoning when they burned a Jordanian pilot in a cage in a shocking 2015 video.

In the Bedouins' short video, which appears to be cell phone footage, the suspected ISIS member, his hands and feet bound, is seen with his upper body on fire off the side of a road as members of the tribe yell at him. One appears to spray an accelerant on him.

The al-Tarabeen said in a statement they would fight ISIS "bravely and courageously as the sons of the tribe do not fear the battles."

Trump Plays Peacemaker, Hosting Abbas at the White House
[An Nahar] President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
will play peacemaker at the White House on Wednesday, meeting with Paleostinian leader the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas
... a graduate of the prestigious unaccredited Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow with a doctorate in Holocaust Denial...
as part of an effort to end the long-running Paleostinian-Israeli conflict.

After hosting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in February, the self-styled deal-maker-in-chief will host Abbas for the first time since coming to office.

"The President's ultimate goal is to establish peace in the region," said White House press secretary Sean Spicer.

That long-shot effort -- which has eluded US presidents since the 1970s -- got off to a rocky start early in Trump's adminstration.

Trump renounced US support for a Paleostinian state and vowed to move the US embassy to Jerusalem, breaking two tenets of US policy held for decades.

Vice President Mike Pence on Tuesday said Trump is still "giving serious consideration into moving the American embassy in Tel Aviv to Jerusalem."

That move would likely spark Paleostinian fury and is privately seen by many in the Israel and US security establishments as needlessly inflammatory.

#3  It looks to me like grooming. First President Trump adamantly refused to have any contact with Mr. Abbas or his people, while having long, cozy phone conversations with Prime Minister Netanyahu, and meetings and phone conversations with everyone else. Then, although President Trump's envoy went on a listening tour, and at some point afterward an appointment with the White House was made, nothing really happened until President Abbas announced the reduction of salaries to PA staff in Gaza, reducing Hamas cash flow, and then that the PA would no longer pay the Gaza electric bill, further reducing Hamas's cash flow. While the public part of the meeting was all flattery stroking the Palestinian ego, according to The Times of Israel today, in private he was slapped around a bit:

During the Wednesday meeting, Trump urged Abbas to stop incitement, crack down on terrorism, and “resolve” his West Bank government’s policy of making payments to families of Israeli-held security prisoners.

“President Trump raised his concerns about payments to Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails who have committed terrorist acts, and to their families, and emphasized the need to resolve this issue,” the White House said in a readout of the two leaders’ first face-to-face meeting.

Hillary Clinton to Launch New PAC
[FREEBEACON] Hillary Clinton
... former first lady, former secretary of state, former presidential candidate, sometimes described by her supporters as the smartest woman in the world, usually described by the rest of us as a crook...
is planning to soon launch a new political action committee without the intention of making another run for public office.
Our NTSA graphic is still on backorder. Thank you for your continued patience.
The failed 2016 Democratic presidential candidate will start the PAC to "act as a quiet catalyst" for organizations she supports and help 2018 congressional candidates, Axios reported Wednesday.

Clinton's PAC will be focused on "lifting up organizations that are the product of the energy and activism she has seen since the election, and existing groups that have been reignited and reinvigorated by that energy," a source familiar with the planning told Axios.

The source revealed that the PAC will not be a way for Clinton to comment on President Trump's activities but also said she "won't shy away from it."

The former secretary of state has been busy since the election. She is set to publish two books in the fall: a detailed account of her 2016 presidential campaign and a children's picture book, titled "It Takes a Village: Picture Book Edition."

Iraq
Mosul Offensive News

Iraqi forces seize munitions cache

Mosul (IraqiNews.com) Iraqi army forces ran into a large weapons cache belonging to Islamic State militants in Mosul as operations proceed to clear the western side of the city.

Maj. Maan al-Saadi, a second special operations division commander, the army’s Counter-Terrorism Service, was quoted by Alsumaria News saying that a special force found the mini-factory in al-Yabessat district in western Mosul.

The finds included mortar missiles, rockets and rocket launchers, al-Saadi said.

Iraqi government forces recaptured eastern Mosul in January after three months of fighting, and claimed recently to control at least 70 percent of the western side of the city after a second phase of offensives launched in February.

Speaking in a weekly press conference late Tuesday, Prime Minister Haider alAbadi said his military commanders were ready with “new military plans” to recapture remaining cities in Nineveh from Islamic State militants.

Commanders from the U.S.-led coalition backing the Iraqi campaign against IS say there are less than 1000 militants in Mosul, while Iraqi generals believe the group holds less than seven percent of Iraqi territories.

The conflict has so far displaced 600.000 civilians, according to Iraqi government counts.

Iraqi forces kill 3 ISIS Top Dawgs

Mosul – ISIS executed 12 of its foreign and non-Iraqi Arab militants on the right side of Mosul, including prominent commanders accused of espionage for the Iraqi government and coalition forces, according to a Kurdish official.

Media official of Patriotic Union of Kurdistan Gaith Surji said that ISIS executed 12 of its militants accused of espionage for the Iraqi government, adding that based on the information they received, a number of military and security commanders were among the executed.

Since ISIS took over Mosul in 2014, a large number of its Iraqi, Arab, and foreign militants have deflected from the organization. In addition, ISIS militants regularly fight internally over money and positions.

Many of Iraqi ISIS militants are trying to escape with families leaving Mosul or go undercover as sleeper cells, according to civilians, adding that most of the remaining ISIS militants fighting security forces in Mosul are foreigners.

Lieutenant General Raed Shaker Jawdat, head of the Iraqi federal police, stated that Iraqi forces killed ISIS leader Abo Ayoub after attacking his vehicle on the Fifth Bridge.

Jawdat told Asharq al-Awsat newspaper that according to intelligence, the police killed other commanders; Abo Abdallah in Rifai area and Nafei Abdallah and two of his bodyguards in Hawi area.

Federal police’s drones and artillery continue to target ISIS clusters and movements in the strategic July 17 neighborhood, west of Mosul. In addition, 17 militants were killed during the bombardment on an ISIS outpost behind al-Sahaba mosque.

Jawdat pointed out that since the initiation of the liberation operation of the right side of the city, police drones killed 859 ISIS militants, including prominent leaders, destroyed 284 booby-trapped cars and 253 booby-trapped motorcycles, and liberated over 274 kilometers so far.

As for humanitarian effort, Iraqi forces rescued 265,000 civilians in combat areas, while 30,000 were able to go back to their liberated residential areas.

Lieutenant General Jawdat concluded that the military included several new tactics on the military plans and updated their accuracy factor in targeting the enemy, in addition to using developed techniques to avoid civilian casualties.

Abbas stops funding Gaza electricity to pressure Hamas
[IsraelTimes] Move to ’dry up’ finances of terror group comes as PA leader set to meet Trump at White House on reviving peace talks

Israel supplies electricity from 10 power lines that cover about 30 percent of Gazoo’s needs. Israel deducts the money from the taxes and customs it collects on behalf of the Abbas government. Egypt provides some electricity, but supplies are less reliable.

Israel last week announced the Abbas government’s intention to stop paying for Gazoo electricity. al-Sheikh’s comments marked the first official Paleostinian confirmation.

In the West Bank, a bigwig said the Abbas government would stop paying for the electricity Israel sends to Gazoo, worth at least $11 million a month.

Hussein al-Sheikh, head of the Civil Affairs Department, said Hamas, the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood, profits because it collects electricity payments from Gazoo residents. "We are not going to continue financing the Hamas coup in Gazoo," he told the Voice of Paleostine radio station.

Ahmed Majdalani, an Abbas aide, said that as a next step, the West Bank government would sharply reduce the amount of medicine it ships to Gazoo every month. Majdalani alleged that Hamas is "selling the medicine and collecting the money."

He said that only "necessary medicine" would be sent directly to Gazoo hospitals.

#1  Is it possible to protect all this tech against an EMP? Because, if not, all of this unmanned/robotic/drone warfare stuff is just a big waste of time. One pulse and it's back to the old way of fighting.

#2  Some strategies are not meant to be fought but to escalate an expensive response. One drone 'triplet', as in the video, would require countermeasures to be distributed across a target area to limit access. Such a show also drives competition to copy/mimic/buy their own, another economic burden.

Please also note that a simple passive nylon tangle wire mesh along sensitive shorelines would/could bind both the boat prop and the rover wheels. No expensive EMP required.

Reds apologize, offer indemnity to civilian hit by IED
[MindaNews] The communist National Democratic Front-Southern Mindanao Region has apologized to the family of a civilian who was hit by an IED during an attack on Saturday by the New People's Army on plants owned by Lapanday Foods Corporation in Barangay Mandug.

The NPA attacked three businesses run by the Lorenzo family in the city on April 30, leaving Buenafe and three other persons injured, Lapanday security guard Reynaldo Talamaque and two NPA guerillas. Two NPA militants were killed in the attack.

Fish vendor Larry Buenafe was seriously hurt when the militants detonated the IED near soldiers from Task Force Davao who responded to the attack. The militants also offered to give indemnification to Buenafe.

In a statement, NDFP-SMR spokesperson Rubi del Mundo said that the insurgents carried out attacks against the soldiers in Barangay Tigatto after the NPA unit attacked the LFC box and plastic plants in nearby Barangay Mandug. She said, "The blaster-operator saw that Mr. Buenafe was far from the target military vehicle and proceeded to detonate the explosives. The shock waves and splinter, however, hit and injured him."

She maintained that the movement has absolute respect for “human rights and international humanitarian law.”

"It is waging a just war for the genuine emancipation of the majority exploited Filipino people. The punitive action by the NPA-Southern Mindanao against the Lorenzo-owned Lapanday Foods Corporation in Davao City is just and long-demanded by the thousands of peasants, Lumad and workers in Mindanao," she said.

Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process Jesus Dureza said he was dismayed by the recent NPA attacks while peace negotiations are "making substantial headway" but remained optimistic they “will not be deterred” despite calls to drop [the talks] and wage an all-out war.

Labor Secretary and government chief peace negotiator Silvestre Bello III said they are now preparing for the fifth round of talks scheduled for May 27 to June 1 in the Netherlands. He said the bilateral teams are working to “arrive at a consensus” on contentious provisions of the proposed Comprehensive Agreement on Social and Economic Reforms (CASER) and bilateral ceasefire.

India-Pakistan
The state’s secrets
[DAWN] SIX years from the shocking episode, and in the midst of today’s turmoil over national security, Minister of State for Information Marriyum Aurangzeb has bluntly rejected the possibility of making public the Abbottabad
... A pleasant city located only 30 convenient miles from Islamabad. The city is noted for its nice weather and good schools. It is the site of Pakistain's military academy, which was within comfortable walking distance of the residence of the late Osama bin Laden....
Commission report. Ms Aurangzeb did suggest that, at some indeterminate point in the future, a government may decide to release the commission report, but made it clear that the so-called sensitive nature of the report would have to be kept in mind before publication. The minister’s remarks appear to be in line with official thinking on the matter and are highly regrettable. There were two questions at the heart of the Abbottabad episode. One, how was the world’s most-wanted terrorist, leader of Al Qaeda, the late Osama bin Laden
... who is now neither a strong horse nor a weak horse, but a dead horse...
, able to live undetected in Abbottabad for many years?
A very good question, indeed.
Two, how was the US military able to insert troops deep inside Pakistain; conduct an operation on the ground in a major town far from an international border; and withdraw its troops several hours later without being detected or challenged by the Pak security forces at any stage, in any place, on ground or in the air?
That one is easy. American Special Forces are like unto ghosts in the night -- unseen, unheard, and unfelt until they choose to make their presence known. When you see nothing to trouble or concern you, at that moment you know you have been outflanked and encircled, your next breath to be allowed or withheld as they choose. Who but they (or the Indians) could have outmaneuvered the Army of the pure so completely?
To those two fundamental questions, a third must be added: was anyone held responsible for the sanctuaries Bin Laden was able to find in Pakistain for many years and for the inability to detect or stop a major US incursion on Pak soil?

With the first two questions unanswered, or perhaps with the answers buried in the secret Abbottabad Commission report, the question of public accountability is impossible to answer. Therein lies the real threat to national security: how can Pakistain be made more secure and its people safer if the state is unwilling to acknowledge its failures, explain what went wrong, determine who was at fault, identify who is to be held responsible and clarify what steps have been taken to prevent a repetition of a convulsive episode? In the US, the events of Sept 11 led to a 9/11 commission report that exhaustively detailed both the attacks and the institutional failures that allowed the attacks to happen. As a result, wide-ranging intelligence and security changes were made in the US, including the creation of a cabinet-level Department of Homeland Security. Fifteen and a half years later, there has not been another attack inside the US that has remotely approached the scale of the 9/11 destruction.

Can any reasonable citizen of Pakistain or observer of the state claim with any degree of confidence that the country has been secured from a repeat of an episode like May 2, 2011? The problem is really of institutional culture and a resistance to change and censure. From the Hamoodur Rehman commission to the inquiry into the Salala attacks, a culture of secrecy has dominated. If Pakistain is to have stronger institutions, transparency and accountability must be embraced.

Puerto Rico Declares a Form of Bankruptcy
[NYTIMES] Puerto Rico’s leadership moved on Wednesday to place the island’s debt crisis into federal bankruptcy court, making it the largest United States government entity to seek court refuge from its creditors in American history.

The move sends Puerto Rico into uncharted territory. America’s recent spate of municipal bankruptcies has involved various state and federal laws, but Puerto Rico is not a state, so none of that hard-won precedent will apply. The outcome of its case could help determine where and how the deep financial troubles of certain states, such as Illinois, are resolved.

On an island that has already been experiencing an exodus of its professionals and well-educated citizens, the move toward bankruptcy is widely perceived as another sign that Puerto Rico has lost all control of its future.

The island has been in a painful recession since 2006, and previous governments dug it deeper into debt by borrowing to pay operating expenses. For the last two years, Puerto Rico has been seeking assistance from Washington, sending officials to testify before stern congressional committees and even making fast-track oral arguments before the United States Supreme Court.

Women psychologically unfit to be political leaders says Abu Sleem HoR member
[Libya Herald] Women cannot be trusted to hold positions of responsibility because, if pregnant, they will have irrational cravings, a boycotting member of the House of Representatives has claimed.

Abderraouf al-Manaie, one of the two members to represent Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
’s Abu Sleem district and who is seen as being close to the Moslem Brüderbund, told Tanasuh TV that a women as president would be dangerous because if she became pregnant she might start having crazy cravings.

"What would we do if a female president gets into a daze because of her pregnancy and orders, for example, a war against Tunisia?", he asked.

Manaie has courted notoriety in the past. Although elected to the HoR, he has virulently campaigned against it and never joined it, declaring it illegitimate. In late 2015 when the former General National Congress was proclaiming itself still in existence, he became one of its president Nuri Abu Sahmain’s prime cheer leaders,

At one point ‐ allegedly ‐ he physically prevented a number of members from entering the GNC’s hall because of fears they would vote for a replacement as well as recognise the then proposed government of national accord. A couple of months earlier he was reported to be among those who stormed the GNC when it had the audacity to discuss a draft of what became the Libyan Political Agreement.

Tanasuh TV, owned by Sheikh Sadek al-Ghariani’s Dar al-Ifta, is itself not without notoriety. This week, another HoR boycotter, Misratan member Hanan Shaglouf, suggested in a programme of the current reported wave of suicides that they might be due to the "sweet smell" of the bodies of the "deaders" in Benghazi’s Ganfouda district causing shock and depression.

Sweet smells, she claimed, could cause shock.

Bangladesh
Psycho suitor arrested for abduction and torture of ex
[Dhaka Tribune] Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) placed in durance vile
Drop the rosco, Muggsy, or you're one with the ages!
a young man for the abduction and torture of a private university student on Monday.

On Monday morning, around 1am, Oliur Rahman alias Kochi, 30, was arrested from his house in Lake Circus road in Kalabagan, Dhaka. RAB managed to rescue his victim, but found her at death's door.

RAB 1 Senior Assistant Superintendent Akramul Hasan confirmed the news to the Dhaka Tribune on Monday evening.

According to Akramul, RAB 1 had received an anonymous tip and had immediately deployed a team on a drive which resulted in Kochi’s arrest.

He added that the victim was a young woman who was a BBA student at Independent University, Bangladesh and lived in the Bashundhara Residential Area.

A year earlier, the families of the two had started discussions about a potential marriage between the two young people. At the time, Kochi had just returned to Bangladesh after having completed his Barrister‐at‐Law degree abroad and had become romantically and physically involved with the girl.

However,
ars longa, vita brevis...
noting that Kochi had behavioural problems and seemed mentally unstable, the girl’s father had rejected the proposal. Enraged at the girl’s father, Kochi began to harass the girl.

On the morning of April 28, he had driven up to the girl while she was on route to her university and carried her off in a white car. He took her to an unknown location and then sexually abused and physically tortured her.

He had then called the girl’s family and made them listen to her screams. He demanded Tk500,000 as ransom. He threatened to shoot and kill her if money was not sent to his bank account or through b-Kash.

On April 29, he took her to Cox’s Bazar but returned with her to Dhaka the next day. Locking her up in an unknown location in the city, her shaved off all the hair from her head and further tortured her physically. Subsequently, fearing the legal action which might be taken against him, he brought in a doctor to help heal her wounds.

RAB sources said when Kochi’s mother found out about the situation, she pushed to have the girl returned to her family. She further demanded that her son be tried in court for his atrocities.

During the primary investigation, Kochi confessed to all the facts. RAB will be taking legal action against him.

International-UN-NGOs
After UNESCO vote, Israel cuts another $1m from UN budget
[IsraelTimes] Jerusalem now to pay only $2.7m out of a required $11.7m, but officials unconcerned Israel could lose right to vote at UN bodies.

Israel said Wednesday it would further reduce the amount it pays annually to the United Nations
...an organization originally established to war on dictatorships which was promptly infiltrated by dictatorships and is now held in thrall to dictatorships...
in retaliation for the latest resolution critical of its policies.

One day after the UN’s cultural agency passed a resolution disputing Israel’s claim to Jerusalem, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel would cut another $1 million from its payments to the UN, bringing the total cuts since December 2016 to $9 million.

"This systematic harassment has a price," Netanyahu said at the beginning of the weekly cabinet meeting, referring to the UNESCO resolution, which calls Israel an "occupying power" in Jerusalem and criticizes the government for archaeological projects in the capital and in Hebron and lambasts its naval blockade of the Gazoo strip.

"In the wake of the resolution, I have instructed Foreign Ministry Director-General Yuval Rotem to deduct $1 million from the funds that Israel transfers to the UN. Israel will not sit by while the organization calls for the denial of our illusory sovereignty in Jerusalem," he said.

Netanyahu’s statement marks the third time in less than a year that Israel has reacted to UN resolutions it deems biased against it by announcing the slashing of its payments to the body.

In December, after the Security Council passed Resolution 2334, Netanyahu ordered $6 million cut from Israel’s payment to the UN. And in March, after the Human Rights Council passed five anti-Israel resolutions, Netanyahu vowed to cut an additional $2 million.

"This considerable sum, almost NIS 40 million, will be transferred to the Foreign Ministry, which is doing exceptional work," he said at the time. "They will use it to develop our relations with countries that want to be close to Israel and are cultivating friendship with it."

The General Assembly requires all 193 UN member states to pay a percentage of the United Nations’ regular budget, based on their GDP. According to the UN Secretariat, Israel is expected to pay $11.7 million this year, or 0.43 percent of the regular budget.

Under Article 19 of the UN Charter, any country in arrears of its dues payments in an amount that equals or exceeds the contributions due for two preceding years can lose its vote in the General Assembly.

After three rounds of cuts, Israel will pay only $2.7 million. However,
the hip bone's connected to the leg bone...
Israeli officials said there is no need to worry about Israel losing its voting rights. "We’re not there yet, not at all," one bigwig said, speaking on condition of anonymity
... for fear of being murdered...
UNESCO’s Executive Board on Tuesday -- Israel’s Independence Day -- passed the resolution with 22 countries in favor, 23 abstentions, 10 opposed, and the representatives of three countries absent.

We are working constantly to increase support for Israel in international bodies in order to reflect our growing status vis-à-vis bilateral contacts with countries," Netanyahu said. "We are also working constantly to reduce, and I hope one day to cancel altogether, the UN theater of the absurd regarding the State of Israel."

New Zealand reaches out to Israel to restore ties

[IsraelTimes] Newly appointed foreign minister seeks to reset relationship broken off after Wellington sponsored anti-Israel UN resolution last December.

Netanyahu was angry at New Zealand’s involvement in the UN resolution, which passed unanimously. The Israeli prime minister called then-Foreign Minister Murray McCully and reportedly threatened to interpret New Zealand’s sponsorship as a "declaration of war."

He also leveled diplomatic sanctions at other countries that supported the measure, including canceling meetings and recalling ambassadors.

How ISIS is trying to impose religious law in Egypt's North Sinai
[Ynet] Despite official denials from the Egyptian military, an ISIS-affiliated group in North Sinai has become overt in threatening the local population; Christians are targeted and women are told to cover up or have acid thrown in their faces, while collaborators with Israel are also persecuted.

One Monday in early April, Shaher Saeed was driving south of the city of Arish in Egypt's North Sinai when he came upon a group of ISIS snuffies who had stopped a truck carrying cigarettes.

"I saw them forcing the driver from the vehicle and stripping the upper part of his clothing before tying him to the door of one of their cars," said Saeed, who lives in the area. "They hit him on the back more than 10 times, then burned all the cartons of cigarettes ... They let him go after warning him not to trade cigarettes again."

April Freeze Destroys Much of England's Wine Making Vineyards
from the Guardian, May 2. News of more damage from global warming
English winemakers are reporting "catastrophic" crop damage after the worst frost in a generation wiped out at least half of this year's grape harvest.

Chris White, the chief executive of Denbies Wine Estate in Surrey, said up to 75% of its crop was damaged by last week's sub-zero temperatures:
[began Tues April 25 but it takes a few days for the damage to manifest]
"The temperature dropped to -6C and at that level it causes catastrophic damage to buds," he said.

White said staff had worked in vain using special fans and heaters to protect the vineyard, which at 265 acres in the UK's biggest, after an Arctic blast swept across the UK. "We are very disappointed and it's quite heartbreaking for the people who work in the vineyard all year round," he said. "From what I hear the majority of English vineyards have been affected to some degree."

Some of France's most famous winemaking regions, including Champagne, Bordeaux and Burgundy, were also affected by last week's severe frosts.

Human Rights Watch Slams Hamas Holding of 2 Israelis in Gaza
[An Nahar] Human Rights Watch on Wednesday called on Gazoo's Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, rulers to release two Israeli citizens with a history of mental illness believed to have been detained by the holy warriors, saying their extended detention and isolation was "cruel and indefensible."

In a detailed report based on interviews with the men's families and with Israeli and Paleostinian officials, the New York-based group said Avera Mangistu and Hisham al-Sayed likely wandered into Gazoo on foot and had no connection to hostilities between Israel and Gazoo. Hamas has indirectly acknowledged holding them but will not provide confirmation until Israel releases dozens of its enjugged
Book 'im, Mahmoud!
members.

Until they are released, HRW demanded Hamas treat the men humanely and allow them to communicate with family.

"Hamas's refusal to confirm its apparent prolonged detention of men with mental health conditions and no connection to the hostilities is cruel and indefensible," said Sarah Leah Whitson, HRW's Middle East director. "No grievance or objective can justify holding people incommunicado and bartering over their fates."

Hamas is also believed to hold the remains of two Israeli soldiers killed in the 2014 Gazoo war, but it refuses to divulge more information without its demands being met.

Mangistu, 30, a Jewish Israeli of Æthiopian descent who lived in the southern coastal city of Ashkelon, entered Gazoo by crossing a barbed wire fence near the beach in September 2014. al-Sayed, 29, an Israeli-Arab of Bedouin descent from the Negev desert, was seen walking across the Gazoo border in April 2015. HRW said both were found unfit to serve in the Israeli military and had been institutionalized several times because of mental illness.

HRW said a third Israeli citizen, 19-year-old Jumaa Abu Ghanima, appears to have crossed into Gazoo in July 2016, but it was not able to confirm this. The group called on Hamas to unconditionally disclose what it knows about the status of all three men, and whether they are in fact in its custody. Failing to do so amounts to enforced disappearance under international law, it said, which leaves detainees exceptionally vulnerable to torture and other abuse.

Bovine vigilante groups not the answer
[FIRST POST] India’s biggest cattle loss is the male of the species.

The country had 19 percent fewer male indigenous cattle in 2012 as against 2007, according to the 19th livestock census. In the same span, the number of male crossbred/exotic cattle fell by 12 percent. Female indigenous cattle saw a marginal 0.01 percent drop in number while the number of female exotic/crossbred cattle grew in double-digits.

The acute falling trend in the number of male cattle can be traced back to decades ago. According to a 2016 research paper by Dr Akila Natarajan, Relevance of draught cattle power and its future prospects in India: A review, in 1972, India had 73.2 million working cattle (mostly male) which dwindled to 53.3 million by 2007. And the steep fall is despite the fact that all this while, most Indian states had some sort of cow protection law in force.

The rebel allegedly pulled out his gun and shot at the police, prompting the officers to return fire. The driver escaped.

Senior Superintendent Alexander Tagum confirmed that the suspect is an Abu Sayyaf militant based on intelligence information. Tagum showed a picture of him to prove that he was a member of the terrorist group.

Iran attempted to launch a cruise missile from a submarine Tuesday
[FoxNews] Iran attempted to launch a cruise missile from a submarine in the Strait of Hormuz on Tuesday but the test failed, two U.S. officials told Fox News.

An Iranian Yono-class “midget” submarine conducted the missile launch. North Korea and Iran are the only two countries in the world that operate this type of submarine.

In February, Iran claimed to have successfully tested a submarine-launched missile. It was not immediately clear if Tuesday’s test was the first time Iran had attempted to launch a missile underwater from a submarine.

This incident comes on the heels of other recent provocations from Iran.

Berkeley elite propose ‘bubbles,’ ‘laughter yoga’ to quell campus violence
[WASHINGTONTIMES] A cadre of city leaders in Berkeley exchanged ideas for quelling violence by left-wing activists, which includes "quiet conversations," "empathy tents," "bubbles" and "laughter yoga."

Violent protests that have rocked the University of Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party,, Berkeley in recent months have the city’s elite searching for solutions. Documents obtained this week through a Public Request Act highlights some of the unorthodox suggestions for dealing with "antifa" activists who target conservative speakers.

"Do you think there is a possibility of having quiet conversations with leftist activist groups to see is they would be willing to stand down and not show up for May 2 and/or other events?" Downtown Berkeley Association CEO John Cainer asked officials in an April 20 letter, Heat Street reported May 2. "I know it is probably a long shot, but there would seem to be little risk in quietly doing so."

Berkeley volunteer Commissioner Phoebe Anne Sorgen suggested empathy tents, which were provided on April 27.

"Envision Wavy Gravy, bubbles, singing, laughter yoga! Occupella. Buddhist Peace Meditators. Fencing with sponge noodles," she wrote, Heat Street reported. "Will Edwin set up the Empathy tent? How about a volleyball game in the middle of the park and/or a square dance? Will Code Pink

Trump Son-In-Law Jared Kushner Borrowed $250 Million from Soros Family
[Breitbart] Mr. Kushner co-founded Cadre in 2014 with his brother Joshua and Ryan Williams, a 29-year-old friend and former employee of Kushner Cos., the family-controlled business that Mr. Kushner ran until recently...

Cadre also secured a $250 million line of credit from the family office of George Soros, a top Democratic donor whom Mr. Trump criticized during his presidential campaign, the people close to the company said. Mr. Soros’s family office is also an investor in Cadre.

[Kushner’s lawyer Jamie] Gorelick said the Cadre stake is described in a revised version of [Kushner’s] financial-disclosure form that will be made public after it has been certified by ethics officials. She said Mr. Kushner has previously discussed his Cadre ownership with the Office of Government Ethics and that Mr. Kushner has "resigned from Cadre’s board, assigned his voting rights, and reduced his ownership share." A spokesman for the Office of Government Ethics didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
Jamie S. Gorelick is an American lawyer who served as the Deputy Attorney General of the United States from 1994 to 1997, during the Clinton administration.
Is that why she is revealing things that, it seems to me, her fiduciary duty requires her to keep confidential at least until the client makes them public? I also note that having a line of credit is not the same as borrowing money; it is a way of nailing down the possibility of quickly borrowing money in the future, should an opportunity arise making it necessary. Mr. Wife and I had a line of credit from our bank for years that we never touched, because we never needed to -- it came with the bank account Mr. Wife's company had us open so they could pay him more easily when they sent us to Germany, and it would have been useful in an emergency.

#1  Ethics is one issue. If a guy, his brother and a friend come to me and ask for a line of credit, I am going to make sure that these three people can make my money back if they ever need my money. If one of the three is married to the daughter of Donald Trump, I am going to give him the line of credit.

But if he then bails on the company and decides to focus his energies somewhere else, I would consider the landscape has changed considerably. Unless the somewhere else is an office next to the President of the United States.

If he had refocused somewhere other than the White House then he probably would have lost it and Kushner's other major investors would have also been concerned.

Is he a man of his word? Or if a sweeter deal comes along will he abandon our deal?

High School Coach Loses Job Because He 'Doesn't Communicate Effectively with Millennials'
[Daily Caller] A longtime high school baseball coach in Phoenix, Ariz., was told to hit the bricks -- apparently because he "doesn't communicate effectively with millennials" (aka snowflakes).

Stan Luketich, the now former Desert Vista High School baseball coach, claimed that he was not sure what school officials meant, but assumed that it had something to do with the fact that players on the Desert Vista Thunder were expected to follow certain rules.

Luketich, who has coached baseball for 42 years, has led the Thunder to two state championships. He said that the news that he was being let go hit him "from out of nowhere." The high school principal, however, stated that the decision was made "after several conversations over the course of two years."

#2  Coached baseball for 42 years. Sounds like he's just short of retirement.

#4  Luketich said the Athletic Director had previously told him that his kids "don't play with passion and energy." Should one of these snowflakes get injured playing with passion and energy, then the parents will be all over the coach and school. Just can't catch a break either way.
