#2  The CO2 percentage is basically irrelevant. What matters is how effective a greenhouse gas it is, and we can directly measure that, by measuring downward radiation at the wave lengths CO2 reradiates energy. Over 20 years no significant change was detected.

Which is why you rarely see claims about CO2 these days and the claims are about greenhouse gases overall. Much harder to debunk.

Deranged Woman Tries to Run GOP Congressman Off the Road Over Healthcare Vote
[TownHall] A Tenessee woman was charged with felony reckless endangerment after allegedly chasing Congressman David Kustoff, who voted in favor of the American Health Care Act, down a highway and placing him "in fear of being run off" the road. Kustoff attended a meeting at the University of Tennessee unrelated to the AHCA where Wendi Wright, 35, allegedly tried to discuss her grievances with him. Kustoff drove off and "that's why she began following him," Weakley County Sheriff's Department Sergeant told BuzzFeed News. After Kustoff pulled into a driveway, Wright allegedly got out of her car and "began screaming and striking the windows" of his car, police told BuzzFeed News. "I've been led to believe she was upset over a vote he had cast involving health care," Plunk said.

Maori haka and language may keep dementia at bay
[BBC] Researchers at the university of Auckland in New Zealand are wondering if performing the kapa haka is one of the things that helps stave off dementia in older Maoris.

A Ministry of Health study looking into factors that help people age well expected to find higher rates of dementia among the Maori compared to their non-Maori counterparts, because they had higher risk factors such as less access to health care, lower socioeconomic status, and higher incidences of cardiovascular disease and smoking, the New Zealand Herald reported.

But they found no significant differences in a cohort of 900 people aged 80 to 90.

Researchers have speculated that this may have to do with being bilingual - speaking their native Te Reo language as well as English - and their greater involvement in cultural activities.

"Older Maori have substantial roles involving advanced cognitive activities and, along with kapa haka, cultural activities may provide greater cognitive stimulation and thus preservation of cognition," the study said.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Iran Refining Nuke Delivery System in Flagrant Violation of Soetoro Ban
[Free Beacon] Iran continues to make critical technological strides in its efforts to perfect an intercontinental ballistic missile capable of delivering nuclear weapons over great distances, efforts that violate international prohibitions, according to the director of national intelligence, who informed Congress this week that the Islamic Republic "would choose ballistic missiles as its preferred method of delivering nuclear weapons."

The disclosure comes just days after Iranian leaders announced the upcoming launch of two new domestically produced satellites. Iran has long used its space program as cover for illicit missile work, as the know-how needed to launch such equipment can be applied to long-range ballistic missile technology.

Daniel Coats, America's top spymaster, informed Congress this week in an intelligence briefing that Iran's ballistic missile work continues unimpeded and could be used by the Islamic Republic to launch a nuclear weapon, according to unclassified testimony.

Iran's ballistic missile work, particularly its focus on ICBMs, runs counter to United Nations resolutions barring such activity, though it remains unclear if the Trump administration plans to pursue new sanctions on Iran.

Europe
Italy to triple the number of repatriation centers for rejected migrants
[La Belle France24] This week in Italia an official decree paved the way for the creation of 11 more repatriation centres capable of housing 1,600 people pending deportation, on top of the four currently in operation.

The country is sheltering more than 176,000 asylum-seekers, with about 45,000 migrants colonists arriving since January 1 -- a 40 percent rise on the same period last year -- and officials are bracing for another summer of record arrivals.

To cope with the influx -- and to deter others from coming -- Interior Minister Marco Minniti pushed through parliament last month a plan to increase migrant housing and provide new resources for expelling those who have come only to seek work.

The plan includes creating fast-track asylum appeal courts for the roughly 60 percent of migrants colonists who have their initial requests denied, in order to reach a binding decision that gets them out of the country sooner.

Between January and April, Italia expelled 6,242 people who did not have the right to stay, an increase of 24 percent on the same period last year.

But the figures include more than just people rescued from the overcrowded boats coming daily from Libya who have failed in their asylum requests.

Many were sent home directly because of repatriation agreements, such as those with Tunisia, Egypt or Morocco, while others were expelled after overstaying their student or tourism visas.

But despite Italia's new efforts to deter migrant arrivals, many say they won't give up trying.

"If they expel me, I'll come back afterwards. I say this honestly -- there is nothing for me back there," said one woman at Ponte Galeria Repatriation Center.

For Luigi Manconi, a senator in the ruling Democratic Party, such centres have never functioned as well as intended, and often detain people who should not find themselves behind bars.

Many of the Nigerians at the centre, for example, were victims of prostitution networks. "They should be being helped, not incarcerated," he said.
Had they not tried to get to Europe, they would not have been swept up by the black slavers, and so long as they are in Europe, they reman at risk. It appears the safest thing is to send them home.

'Returning from Germany' online portal to boost number refugees leaving voluntarily

[DW] A report from the Office for Migration and Refugees has shown a significant decrease in the number of asylum-seekers leaving Germany voluntarily. A new online portal now aims to make returning "the better option."

According to IOM, 54,096 asylum-seekers voluntarily left Germany in 2016. By the end of April 2017, around 11,000 had left.

In a bid to increase the number of people choosing to leave Germany, the country's Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF) and the IOM on Thursday launched www.returningfromgermany.de, a new online portal providing information for those interested in voluntarily returning to their home country.

As well as offering an insight into important factors such as medical provisions and the current labor market in the relevant home country, the Returning From Germany site also details both what financial schemes are offered to people of a particular nationality while in Germany as well as reintegration programs available in their homeland.

The site is currently in German and English but will be available in the coming weeks in the languages spoken in the main countries of origin, including Arabic, French and Balkan state languages.

With around 30,000 rejected asylum-seekers currently required to leave Germany, Berlin is keen to encourage more people to leave voluntarily - sometimes even before a ruling has been made on their applications to stay.

"Those who have no prospect of staying in Germany must leave as swiftly as possible," Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere said.

Last year saw the deportation of 25,375 failed asylum-seekers, an increase of 21.5 percent compared to 2015. But paying migrants colonists and refugees to return of their own accord is also more financially beneficial for the German government than going through the expensive process of deporting them.

According to Schröder, however, in order for government efforts to encourage voluntary returns to succeed, "People who refuse to leave the country voluntarily must be consistently sent back to their home countries."

"Only then will voluntary return actually be the better option."

Obama’s Former Defense Secretary: Yeah, We Lied To The Israelis That We’d Stop Iran From Going Nuclear
[DailyWire] In a prolix profile in The New York Times of Barack Obama’s deputy national security adviser Ben Rhodes, a startling admission comes from Obama’s former Secretary of Defense, Leon Panetta; he states that Obama was lying when he said he was serious about preventing Iran from getting nuclear weapons.

Panetta admits that as secretary of defense, his job was to keep Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel and his defense minister, Ehud Barak, from launching an airstrike on Iran’s nuclear facilities. Panetta states that the two men wanted to know whether Obama was serious about not allowing Iran to get a nuclear weapon:

They were both interested in the answer to the question, “Is the president serious?” And you know my view, talking with the president, was: If brought to the point where we had evidence that they’re developing an atomic weapon, I think the president is serious that he is not going to allow that to happen.

The Times asks, “But would you make that same assessment now?” Panetta acknowledges, “Would I make that same assessment now? Probably not.”

The same article debunks Obama’s lie that the Iran deal only began to be negotiated after the so-called “moderate wing” of the Iranian government led by Hassan Rouhani took over in 2013. Obama said on July 14, 2015: “Today, after two years of negotiations, the United States, together with our international partners, has achieved something that decades of animosity has not.” But the Times writes:

While the president’s statement was technically accurate — there had in fact been two years of formal negotiations leading up to the signing of the J.C.P.O.A. — it was also actively misleading, because the most meaningful part of the negotiations with Iran had begun in mid-2012, many months before Rouhani and the “moderate” camp were chosen in an election among candidates handpicked by Iran’s supreme leader, the Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
May they all burn in the deepest level of Hell for what they did with malice aforethought. For what they said and did not say, for what they did and chose not to do, and for what they implied and allowed to be believed, may God have mercy on their souls. I can find none.

North Korea in eerie coded radio message that risks sparking global WAR

It had been hoped the politician’s Liberal views would ease tensions, but crazy Kim’s latest act is a strong sign he’s a man who won’t be tamed.

The new coded message was read out on Radio Pyongyang at 1.15am (4.15pm UK time) by a female announcer.

Sanders to Campaign in Montana’s Special Election for Quist
[FREEBEACON] Sen. Bernie Sanders
...The only openly Socialist member of the U.S. Senate. Sanders was Representative-for-Life from Vermont until moving to the Senate for the rest of his life in 2006, assuming the seat vacated by Jim Jeffords...
(I., Vt.) will join Democratic congressional candidate Rob Quist on the campaign trail in Montana.

Sanders, who endorsed Quist last month, will join him for four rallies on May 20 and 21, the Hill reported Friday.

Quist released a statement announcing his upcoming campaign travel with Sanders.

"I'm excited to have Bernie Sanders come to Big Sky Country to witness the grassroots support behind our campaign and share the message that we need more elected leaders fighting for working class families, instead of millionaires, corporations, and special interests," Quist said.

The special election is on May 25 and will determine who will fill the House seat vacated by Ryan Zinke to become secretary of the interior. Quist will face off against Republican candidate Greg Gianforte.

Quist has an interesting track record, from recommending that climate change skeptics commit suicide to having played music at nudist resorts with his daughter.

Palestinian shot dead in West Bank clash with IDF — medics
[IsraelTimes] A Paleostinian youth was rubbed out during festivities with the IDF in the West Bank on Friday, the Paleostinian health ministry said.

The man was shot during protests which are held weekly near the village of Nabi Saleh, north of Ramallah, and later died in a nearby hospital, the ministry said in a statement.

The dead man was named as Saba’ Nidal Obaid, 20.
He is now free from all fears and woe, the lucky duck. No more worries about which black hoodie to wear to the weekly riot, no more pondering whether this is the week he commits suicide by IDF with a knife from the kitchen of his mother...
The Israeli army said in a statement to AFP it was "aware of reports" that a protester had been killed but could not confirm it.

"A violent riot involving dozens of Paleostinians hurling rocks at (Israeli army) forces broke out earlier today," a spokeswoman said.

Dispersal means, including firing live ammunition, were used "in response to that imminent threat," she added.

According to a report in Paleostinian news agency Ma’an, more than 30 Paleostinians were maimed during festivities between hundreds of Paleostinian protesters and IDF forces, most of them from rubber bullets.

MD Dem Rep. Elijah Cummings is on the record supporting Mike Rogers to replace Comey
[Daily Caller] Former FBI agent and seven-term Michigan Republican Rep. Mike Rogers, who led a two-year investigation of Hillary Clinton and the 2012 Benghazi terrorist attack, is on a short list to replace James Comey as director of the FBI.
A 'two-year investigation of Hillary Clinton' that Rogers obstructed at nearly every turn.
The president is seriously considering Rogers, according to NBC News, citing sources familiar with the situation.

Venezuela Official Says Demo Poo-Bombs 'Chemical Arms'
[An Nahar] Venezuelan anti-government protesters who have been throwing human excrement at riot police during demonstrations are resorting to use of "chemical weapons," a senior Venezuelan official said.

Judicial inspector general Marielys Valdez spoke out Wednesday after protesters hurled jars of feces dubbed "Poopootov cocktails" during the latest in weeks of festivities in Caracas.

"That is a biochemical weapon... The use of biochemical weapons is fully classified as a crime and incurs strong penalties," she said on state television
... and if you can't believe state television who can you believe?
channel VTV.

"The use of chemical weapons, in this case human and animal feces, has consequences... it can get into the water and cause terrible contamination" and disease, she added.

Daily festivities between demonstrators and security forces have left 38 people dead since April 1, prosecutors say.

Protesters blame elected President Nicolas Maduro for an economic crisis that has caused food shortages.

They are demanding early elections, accusing him of repressing protesters and trying to install a dictatorship.

Maduro, who blames the crisis on what he calls a US-backed plot, brands the protesters "terrorists."

He warned Thursday that people who say they are protesting and attack military bases will be tried in military courts.

"Anyone who is captured attacking military bases will go where they have to go: to justice," Maduro said, while again denouncing the opposition demonstrations.

Scores of people tossed in the slammer

When they're defined by the state or an NGO they don't mean much...
groups say.

The state prosecution service said on Wednesday that under the constitution, civilians detained in protests should be tried by civil and not military courts.

"Poopootov cocktails" were used last week in a demonstration during a protest in a suburb of Caracas and gained popularity through social media.

Syrian Army Makes Gains in Rebel Area of Damascus
[An Nahar] Syrian government forces have gained ground in a rebel-held district of Damascus as part of the regime's efforts to push holy warriors into accepting an evacuation deal, a monitor said Thursday.

In fighting since Wednesday night, "regime troops have managed to advance in the Qabun district" of eastern Damascus, said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

It said they had seized control of a number of apartment blocks and an electricity firm in Qabun, one of six districts of the capital outside government control.

A Syrian army soldier was killed on Thursday, said the Britannia-based group.

"This is a new attempt to tighten the net around the rebels to push them to accept an evacuation deal," according to the Observatory's head, Rami Abdel Rahman.

A pro-regime military source on the ground has told AFP that the rebels have refused to be relocated to the northwestern province of Idlib, as in the case of previous evacuations of fighters and their families.

They want to be transferred to the rebel bastion of Eastern Ghouta in Damascus province.

On Monday, in the first such evacuation from a Damascus district, more than 1,000 rebels and family members left Barzeh, with the regime granting them safe passage in exchange for their surrender.

But the evacuation from Barzeh, expected to run for five days, appeared to have stalled on Wednesday, with the Observatory saying the regime had failed to comply with a pledge to release 15 prisoners as part of the deal.

The Barzeh operation follows a model of "reconciliation deals" implemented across the country.

Indian top court examines Muslim instant divorce
[DAWN] NEW DELHI: India’s highest court on Thursday began considering the legality of a controversial Islamic practice that allows men to leave their wives instantly by reciting the word "divorce" three times.

"Triple talaq" is legal for Moslems under the Indian constitution but it has come under scrutiny with reports emerging of men divorcing their wives via letters, Skype and WhatsApp messages.

Several women divorced by triple talaq have petitioned the Supreme Court to overturn the practice. "We told the court that the practice has no basis in the law or in the Koran," said Balaji Srinivasan, a lawyer for Shayara Bano whose husband split from her by writing "divorce" three times on a piece of paper.

The practice has been challenged in lower courts but this collective appeal is the first time India’s Supreme Court will consider whether triple talaq is fundamental to Islam and therefore legally binding.

A panel of five judges from India’s major faiths -- Hinduism, Christianity, Islam, Sikhism and Zoroastrianism -- will consider the matter and is expected to deliver a verdict next week.

Hezbollah blames Israel as Lebanese receive tens of thousands of anti-Nasrallah texts
[IsraelTimes] Automated phone calls and messages sent during terror chief’s speech accuse him of murdering subordinate Mustafa Badreddine.

Many of the texts and calls were identified as coming from Hezbollah’s official public relations offices.
*snicker* How humiliating.
The terror organization blamed Israel and an alleged "Israeli-Saudi alliance" for the psychological warfare, "as part of its attempts to shake Lebanese faith in the resistance, and to plant seeds of division," the Ynet news website reported.

Nasrallah made the televised speech Thursday on the one-year anniversary of Badreddine’s death.

Israel’s IDF Chief Gadi Eisenkot said earlier this year that Badreddine was killed by his own men. An investigative report by the Saudi Al Arabiya news network said Nasrallah likely ordered the liquidation.

Badreddine was killed on May 10, 2016 in a mysterious kaboom near Damascus airport shortly after a meeting with his commanders, according to Lebanese media. Badreddine had inherited the leadership of Hezbollah’s terrorist operations from former commander and cousin Imad Mughniyeh, who is believed to have been assassinated by Israel in 2008. Badreddine’s sister, Saada, was reportedly married to Mughniyeh.

Pak-Based Terrorists 'Planning To Attack' Afghanistan, India
[Tolo News] A top U.S spymaster has said that Pakistain-based terrorist groups are "planning to attack" both India and Afghanistan.

"Islamabad has failed to curb holy warriors and bandidos forces of Evil in Pakistain," Daniel Coats, Director of the U.S National Intelligence told members of the United States Senate Select Committee on Intelligence during a Congressional hearing on Worldwide threats on Thursday.

"These groups will present a sustained threat to the United States' interest in the region and continue to plan and conduct attacks in India and Afghanistan," Coats said.

He said Pakistain is expanding its nuclear arsenal in pursuing tactical nuclear weapons, potentially lowering the threshold for their use.

He said that in South Asia, the intelligence community assesses that the political and security situation in Afghanistan will almost certainly deteriorate through 2018 even with a modest increase in military assistance by the United States and its partners.

"This deterioration is undermined by its dire economic situation. Afghanistan will struggle to curb its dependence on external support until it contains the insurgency or reaches a peace agreement with the Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
," he said.

"Meanwhile,
...back at the shouting match, the spittle had reached unprecedented levels...
we assess that Taliban is likely to continue to make gains especially in rural areas. Afghan Security Forces performance will probably worsen due to a combination of Taliban operations, combat casualties, desertion, poor logistic support and weak leadership," Coats said.

Pemra warns TV channels not to air content jeopardising military's image
[DAWN] A statement issued by Pakistain Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) on Friday carried a warning for all TV channels against airing unverified news or analysis themed around the Pakistain Army or its relationship with the civilian government.

Pemra, in its latest statement, made it clear that all news and current affairs TV channels, including its employees, panellists and anchorpersons, shall not divulge in discussing unverified news or analysis pertaining to the country's civil-military relations without confirmation from the concerned institution.

The content, Pemra maintains, would be especially problematic if it accuses the military of something, tarnishes its 'image', or if it encourages anyone to take extra-constitutional measures.

"Those found in violation of the new Pemra guideline would be charged under Section 27 of the Pemra Ordinance 2002," the blurb stated.

Serraj meets active HoR members in Tunis
[Libya Herald] In a potentially significant development, the head of the Presidency Council (PC) Faiez Serraj, accompanied by one of the PC deputy presidents, Fathi Majbri, has had discussions in Tunis with a group of House of Representatives (HoR) members mainly from the east.

The talks focussed on possible developments from the meeting Serraj had with Field Marshal Khalifa Hafter in Abu Dhabi ten days ago.

According to Benghazi member Issa al-Araibi, hitherto a seemingly firm foe of the Presidency Council, the members told Serraj to have more meetings with Hafter.

The talks followed those two days ago in Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
at which Seraj briefed some 50 HoR members of the meeting with Hafter.

The latest meeting was described as positive by members. However,
it was a brave man who first ate an oyster...
one HoR member expressed disappointment that Serraj had flown to Tunis rather than Cairo to meet Khalifa Hafter. There needed to be an agreement as soon as possible between the two, he said. He claimed that anti-Hafter pressure from hardliners in Tripoli and Misrata had forced Serraj to cancel a second round of talks with the field marshal planned for Cairo.

Presidency Council member Ahmed Maetig was also in Tunus at the same time but did not meet with the HoR delegation.

Probe Unearths Luxurious Lifestyle Of Ex-Army Generals
[Tolo News] A number of Afghan National Army generals, removed from their posts by the incumbent government, have been found to be living the high-life in Kabul mansions, which officials say cost far more than what their monthly salaries would have covered.
All those ghost soldier salaries had to go somewhere...
This comes after TOLOnews started investigating allegations of corruption at the Ministry of Defense (MoD) and found that these generals appear to be living way above their means.

According to the chairman of the High Office of Oversight and Anti-Corruption (HOOAC) Ghulam Husain Fakhri, the lack of authentic information on asset registrations among high ranking officials and military generals at the Ministry of Defense has paved the way for large-scale corruption within the security sector.

"The issue is that the intelligence, financial and administrative institutions as well as the people should cooperate with us, but they are not doing so and it hinders our bid to publicize assets declared by officials," Fakhri told TOLOnews.

TOLOnews’ findings reveal that army generals are paid a monthly salary of between 40,000 and 60,000 Afs.

One former general, Sayed Waqif Shah Saeedi was fired a month ago but built a mansion in Kabul. Saeedi had been a personnel officer at the Ministry of Defense.

Another general who lives in a luxurious house at Qargha Lake in Kabul is Aziz Amarkhail. He was once the head of the office of former defense minister Abdul Rahim Wardak.

Gen. Saboor, a former intelligence officer for the Afghan Air Force is yet another mansion-owner, as is ex-army chief Gen. Qadam Shah Shaheem who has a big orchard in a suburb of Kabul city.

Shah Aqa Haidari, the former head of the procurement office of the defense ministry is another ex-army general with a mansion in Kabul, the TOLOnews probe found. He was removed from his job over corruption allegations.

Despite continued efforts, TOLOnews could not get comment from these former military personnel.

SFG wants arms embargo lifted to fight Al Shabab
[SHABELLENEWS] Somalia’s president on Thursday called for an end to the arms embargo on his long-chaotic country, saying that if the military doesn’t have more sophisticated equipment in the fight against the al-Shabaab

Lion of Islam group, "definitely this war will continue for another 10 years."

President Mohammed Abdullahi Mohammed has repeatedly vowed to defeat al-Shabaab within two years. He spoke to news hounds at the end of a high-level conference to address the Horn of Africa nation’s deepening humanitarian and security crisis.

Mohammed, who was elected in February and holds U.S. citizenship, suggested that the international community develop a road map to achieve lifting the arms embargo within several months or "maybe next year."

British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson responded that "this is not the time to lift the arms embargo" and that the priority should be on helping Somalia’s military work together with regional forces that already exist across the long-fragmented nation.

British Prime Minster Theresa May and U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called for more support to counter Somalia’s deadly drought, with the U.N. chief requesting another $900 million in aid this year.

"Somalia now hangs in the balance between peril and potential," Guterres said. "Here in London we can tip the scales from danger to safety."

on Friday following heavy festivities between government forces and the group’s fighters in past eight days, the Northeast Zone Police said in a statement.

Mahfoozullah Akbari, front man for the Northeast Zone Police, said that Khwaja and Katakhail police outposts along the highway were taken out of the turbans’ siege in the military operation conducted by Afghan security and defense forces.

He said they had equipped police outposts along the Kunduz-Takhar Highway after they cleared the area of Taliban.

The road from Kunduz city to Khanabad district in Kunduz province is closed to traffic for past eight days due to heavy festivities between security forces and Taliban.

"The government forces were connected to each other from the two sides ‐ Takhar and Kunduz provinces - at 12:45pm on Friday," Akbari said in the statement.

According to him, at least six Taliban fighters were killed and four others were maimed in Thursday night festivities in the province.

He said civilians were not allowed to travel through the highway due to the existence of mines, adding that the forces are busy in reopening the highway to traffic by Friday evening.

Taliban ‘Safe Zone’ Established In South
[Tolo News] A ’safe zone’ has been established in the country’s south for those Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
who have and will lay down their arms and join the grinding of the peace processor, Kandahar Police Chief Gen. Abdul Raziq said.

Raziq said the safe zone will help the Taliban from Kandahar, Helmand
...an Afghan province populated mostly by Pashtuns, adjacent to Injun country in Pak Balochistan...
, Uruzgan and Zabul provinces to live without worrying about their security after they quit violence and join peace.

He added that a number of Taliban members, especially their commanders who have laid down their arms, as well as 10 Taliban Überstürmbannführers who have returned from Pakistain and have embraced a normal life, are living at the safe zone.

The Kandahar police chief said they will continue their efforts to provide job opportunities for those Taliban members who have joined the grinding of the peace processor.

"We have provided the environment for those Taliban who do not want to live under the control of Punjabis [Pakistain’s Punjab] and for those who return to their country and start a peaceful life in their districts and provinces, regardless of their status. We have established a safe zone for them and they can live there with their people," Raziq said.

He stated that the safe zone is established for the Taliban fighters in the country’s south and the precondition for living at the zone is to cut off their ties with those Taliban who are still fighting against government forces.

"Those Taliban who are in Kandahar, Helmand, Uruzgan and Zabul [provinces] and have ties with smugglers and gangs, should remove their relations with them and embrace a peaceful life. So far 10 key Taliban members have come here [at the safe zone] and have started a normal life," he added.

Sally Yates was the real blackmailer
[New York Post] In dramatic testimony Monday, Obama holdover Attorney General Sally Yates testified that she warned the incoming White House its newly installed national security adviser, Michael Flynn, was "compromised" by a lie and therefore a potential "blackmail target" of the Russians. President Trump can be forgiven for ignoring her warning. It was Yates who was blackmailing him.

It’s clear from recent revelations that President Obama and his holdovers had a morbid fear of Lt. Gen. Flynn, an anti-Islamic terror hawk, and were gunning for him early in the transition, long before rumors he was involved in any alleged Russian conspiracy.

Just two days after the election, Obama urged President-elect Trump not to rehire Flynn, whom he once fired from the Pentagon. Obama reportedly made it clear he didn’t like the man. (Flynn says his views on Islam put him at odds with the former president.)

Then in late December or early January, someone working under Obama’s own national security adviser, Susan Rice, unmasked routine NSA intercepts of the Russian ambassador. Was it to spy on Flynn, Rice’s replacement?

Just days after the inauguration, moreover, Yates used those same NSA transcripts to try to get Flynn fired, by warning the White House that he was "vulnerable" to Russian extortion.

Malaysia deports three Turks amid UN fears of widening Turkish crackdown
[AlAhram] Malaysia said on Friday it had deported three Turkish men to Ankara over suspected links to a group blamed by The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
for a failed coup last year.

Human rights groups condemned the deportations and the United Nations
...an idea whose time has gone...
said Malaysia's action raised serious concern for the safety of Turkish nationals in the region.

Authorities detained school principal Turgay Karaman, 43, businessman Ihsan Aslan, 39, and academic Ismet Ozcelik, 58, last week, saying they posed a threat to national security.

Rights groups said they were concerned the action had been taken against the men because of pressure from Turkey.

At the time the men were detained, authorities did not say whether they were suspected of having ties to U.S.-based holy man Fethullah Gulen
... a Turkish preacher living in Pennsylvania whom the current govt of Turkey considers responsible for all the ills afflicting Turkey and possibly the entire world...
Malaysian Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar said the three were deported on Thursday on suspicion of being involved in FETO, a group of Gulen supporters that the Turkish government also calls the "Gulenist Terrorist Organisation".

The Malaysian police investigation found that the three men had been involved in FETO activities and were listed as individuals wanted by Turkish authorities, Khalid said.

The Turkish government had also cancelled their travel documents, he said.

"As such, their presence in Malaysia is invalid and their status declared as illegal immigrants colonists," Khalid said.

Turkey detains dozens of former bourse staff over Gulen links : Media
[AlAhram] Turkish police detained 53 former employees of the Istanbul stock exchange on Friday over alleged links to the U.S.-based holy man accused of orchestrating last July's attempted coup, Haberturk newspaper said.

The suspects were the latest among some 150,000 people investigated in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
regarding the failed putsch. Some 49,000 of the suspects have been remanded in jug pending trial.

Prosecutors ordered the detention of 102 people as part of the bourse-related investigation, Haberturk said on its website. Ankara has blamed the network of the holy man Fethullah Gulen
... a Turkish preacher living in Pennsylvania whom the current govt of Turkey considers responsible for all the ills afflicting Turkey and possibly the entire world...
for the failed coup. Gulen has denied involvement.

Dawn raids were launched on 70 addresses, targeting suspects who were removed from their posts at Borsa Istanbul in the wake of the attempted putsch on July 15, 2016, Haberturk said.

Prosecutors in the Turkish capital Ankara ordered the detention of another 38 people, former employees of educational facilities linked to Gulen that were closed down after the coup, state-run Anadolu news agency reported.

It said police have so far detained 16 in that operation across 12 provinces.

About 145,000 civil servants, security personnel and academics have also been suspended or sacked as part of a related purge.

Last week, Turkey dismissed 107 judges and prosecutors over alleged links to the putsch in what was the third major purge since President Tayyip Erdogan was granted sweeping new powers in a referendum last month on constitutional changes.

The mass detentions were initially supported by many Turks, who supported Erdogan in blaming Gulen. But criticism has mounted as the arrests widened, with relatives of many of those detained or sacked denying their involvement in the coup and calling them victims of a purge.

Nebraska Democratic Party Chair Blames DNC Head Perez for Losing Omaha Mayoral Race
Mr. Perez is only a symptom, poor man. So is the Nebraska Democratic Party chair.
[FREEBEACON] The chairwoman of the Nebraska Democratic Party is blaming the leader of the Democratic National Committee for her party's recent election loss in the Omaha mayoral race.

On Tuesday, Democrats were unsuccessful in their efforts to unseat Jean Strothert, the Republican mayor of Omaha, Nebraska. Democratic candidate Heath Mello lost to Strothert, receiving only 46 percent of the vote compared to the incumbent's 53 percent. The race received national attention when DNC chairman Tom Perez and former Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders
...The only openly Socialist member of the U.S. Senate. Sanders was Representative-for-Life from Vermont until moving to the Senate for the rest of his life in 2006, assuming the seat vacated by Jim Jeffords...
(I., Vt.) visited Omaha during their "unity tour."

Sanders endorsed Mello and told a crowd of thousands, "Are you ready for a political revolution?"

Shortly after Sanders' endorsement, reports surfaced that Mello voted for anti-abortion legislation when he was a state senator. Pro-abortion groups denounced Sanders for his endorsement, and some progressive organizations withdrew their endorsements for Mello because of his stance on abortion. This reaction sparked debate amongst Democrats about whether their party would welcome pro-life individuals. While party leaders like House Minority Leader Nancy San Fran Nan Pelosi
Congresswoman-for-Life from the San Francisco Bay Area, born into a family of professional politicians. Formerly Speaker of the House, but it's not her fault they lost. Really. Noted for her heavily botoxed grimace...
(D., Calif.) and Sanders said the party should welcome people who do not share their view on abortion, Perez released a statement that said all Democrats should be pro-choice.

Nebraska Democratic Party chairwoman Jane Kleeb said Perez's statement excluding pro-life individuals from the Democratic Party was part of the reason why Mello lost.

"It's astounding that our party chairman would say pro-life Democrats are not welcome," Kleeb told the News Agency that Dare Not be Named when Mello conceded the election.

Mello acknowledged the dynamic of the race changed after the unity tour stopped in Omaha.

"We tried to run a campaign that was inclusive from the beginning regardless of political affiliation, regardless of ideology under the banner of change," Mello said.

The loss was the latest in a series of electoral defeats for Democrats, who have been unable to channel the resistance to President Trump into success at the ballot box.

This Week in Guns, May 13th, 2017

By Chris Covert
Rantburg.com

I saw in this month's American Rifleman that the Australian government is planning a new firearms amnesty. I have said before, repeatedly that the first time gun confiscation was imposed in Australia in 1996, it was a massive failure with no more than 25 percent of all firearms turned in to the government, That is slightly more than the percentage of Connecticut residents who refused to register their AR-15s. For years, we have been told that the Australian gun control program is the most desirable way to get "guns off the street." It seems Australian gun owners disagree.

It should be noted that the first time the gun control program was put in place, a small compensation was paid. This time none is offered. I suspect the next time, the Australian government will dispense with the nicety of calling it an amnesty and go full blown confiscation. The sh*t storm that will ensue will be something to see.

What American fascists are doing is only slightly different. Instead of dressing confiscation up with new clothes and makeup, they have been going through the several states to establish universal background checks laws, in the clear hope that if enough states adopt those laws, universal background checks will become an amendment to the US Constitution. You know about background checks: the same basis for your carry permit. The state (federal and state government) will first take your resources, and when it is tired of that, it will take your rights, and then, finally, your guns. You'll eventually have little more than a dim memory of what is was like to own a gun.

It is part of the Long March, running a long game of telling gun owners that "your firearms aren't being confiscated" and selling your God given rights back to you in the form of carry permits, all the while setting up the legal and Constitutional basis for firearms to be confiscated.

It is why I suspect Heller will either be overturned or severely modified in the coming decade. That's a little too much freedom to be granted.

Ask a fascist next week about this and they will respond, as they typically do online with, "You are paranoid, lol". They'll act stupid about it, as most people do when their -- and your -- rights are slowly being taken away.

Your rights are in danger the moment the lawyers get hold of them.

Loads.

Rantburg's summary for arms and ammunition:

Pistol ammunition prices were mostly steady. Rifle ammunition prices were mostly steady.

Prices for used pistols were lower. Prices for used rifles were mostly lower.

Note: The nationwide average price for the 9mm (Beretta 92FS or other Semiautomatic) has reached a new low of $207, the lowest in a year. Similarly, the nationwide average price for the .308 NATO (AR-10 Pattern Semiautomatic) fell to its lowest level in two years at $795.

The market for the 9mm pistol, arguably the most popular handgun caliber in the nation appears to have collapsed. The markets of the five states I track are flooded with 9mm semiautomatic pistols, and it's not likely to clear up any time soon. Remember, I follow private sales only. If these markets for used 9mm semiautomatics haven't yet affected the market for new guns, they certainly will, sooner or later.

The market collapsed differently for the 7.62mm NATO AR-10 pattern rifle. I suspect the reason for the massive fall is that the semiautomatic 7.62mm NATO round has fallen out of favor. More powerful. longer range rounds are available, albeit at a small premium.

It also should be noted that the AR-15 pattern rifle began a slow descent starting in March to its new low posted two weeks ago of $462.

New Lows:

Arizona: 7.62x39mm (AK Pattern Semiautomatic): Romak: $400
Florida: 9mm (Beretta 92FS or other Semiautomatic): Taurus 709FS: $160
Texas: 30-30 Winchester Lever Action: Marlin: $295

Hamas’s suspect in killing of terror mastermind identified as Ashraf Abu Layla
[IsraelTimes] Paleostinian media says 37-year-old who allegedly assassinated Mazen Faqha is a former Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, member ejected over ’moral transgressions.

The man whom Hamas suspects assassinated one of its terror chiefs in March was identified Friday as Ashraf Abu Layla, a 37-year-old former Hamas member from the central Gazoo Strip.

Family members of the slain Mazen Faqha
...the nine-time life sentenced emir of the West Bank jacket wallahs, murdered March 24th in his garage by a patient man with a silenced gun, which is clear proof the Israelis were behind it...
revealed Abu Layla’s identity, a day after the terror group announced his arrest. They said Abu Layla was a member of Hamas’s military wing, the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, but was thrown out years ago over "moral transgressions."

Reports in the Paleostinian media claimed Abu Layla then joined a radical Salafist group before eventually being recruited by the Mossad to carry out the killing.

On Thursday, Hamas announced the arrest of the man who, it said, assassinated Faqha in March. The Islamist terror group claimed he confessed to acting on orders from Israel, and indicated he would face execution.

Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman has said that Hamas was responsible for the killing and that it came about as a result of an internal dispute.

Since Faqha’s killing, Hamas leaders have threatened to carry out a Dire Revenge attack against Israel.

On Wednesday, the Hebrew daily Israel Hayom quoted defense officials as saying that Hamas is increasing its efforts to carry out a big terrorist attack in the West Bank to avenge the killing of Faqha.
Ynet has a photo of the miscreant, and adds:
Other [Gazoo] sources mentioned that he was a car dealer and that his brother was a senior member of the military wing of Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason,. It was also claimed that some of Abu Laila's family members work in various government institutions in Gazoo that are subordinate to Hamas.

On Thursday, the Hamas military prosecution in Gazoo carried out a reenactment of the liquidation with the suspect after Haniyeh officially announced that he had been tossed in the calaboose
Keep yer hands where we can see 'em, if yez please!
along with others involved in the liquidation. It was not divulged who the others were.

The Golra police obtained a five-day physical remand of the suspect from the Anti-Terrorism Court Islamabad and launched an investigation.

Afghanistan
Saleh Accuses Hekmatyar Of ‘Insulting’ War Victims
[Tolo News] The state minister for reforms in security sector, Amrullah Saleh, at a gathering in Kapisa province on Friday, criticized the recent remarks of Hizb-e-Islami leader Gulbuddin Hekmatyar
... who used to be known in intelligence circles as The Most Evil Man in the World but who now seems merely run-of-the-mill evil...
and said he had ’insulted’ Afghanistan’s war victims when he made his first speech after 20 years at the Presidential Palace one week ago.

The ceremony remembered Mohammad Aman Mubariz, former head of Kapisa Provincial Council’s secretariat, who was killed in a kaboom a month ago.

Saleh said Hekmatyar had hand in killing of innocent people in past 17 years, but he did not mention this in his recent speeches.

He stated that he is not against the grinding of the peace processor, but he opposes the way Hekmatyar was welcomed by government.

"I think organizing a big event for the person who issued fatwas of our killing for 17 years, who financed destruction for 17 years, who committed anything against his country from a foreign country for 17 years, who gave lecture for more than an hour and paid no respect to deaders of past 17 years in Afghanistan, was a mistake," said Saleh.

Referring to Hekmatyar’s recent speech at the Presidential Palace, Saleh said: "In the hall that he [Hekmatyar] was speaking, he did not even paused for a minute to greet the audiences or to confess that the leaders present at hall had forgiven him and he should thank them [for that]. He [Hekmatyar] did not mention that how many soldiers, who were ensuring his security outside the hall [at the Presidential Palace] were killed by him in past 17 years."

The state minister for security reforms said turban and terrorist groups will not mercy on anyone and anything in the country.

"Where is it mentioned in our religion and culture to burn schools where there is no foreigner and no foreign lessons?" Saleh asked.

"The only way to get out of the situation is to support the security and defense forces," said Mohammad Husain Sanjani, head of Kapisa Provincial Council.

Last week on Thursday, Hekmatyar addressing a welcoming ceremony at the Presidential Palace in Kabul where he called Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
"brothers" and asked them to join the grinding of the peace processor.

He said they have returned without any condition and they want to end the war which "only sacrifices Afghans and only destroys Afghans’ homes".

He also offered his services to the Taliban and said he would act as their mediator in talks with the Afghan government.

Misratan MPs slam Siala’s Hafter remark
[Libya Herald] Government of National Accord (GNA) foreign minister Mohammed Siala’s reference to Khalifa Hafter as commander of the Libyan army continues to draw flack from the general’s opponents.

Siala used the expression during Monday’s summit of foreign ministers from neighbouring countries, staged in Algiers.
Today Misratan members of the House of Representatives (HoR) warned that his comment could pave the way for civil war and undermined local and international efforts to make the Libyan Political Agreement (LPA) work. Every Libyan would pay a heavy price if it failed.

The statement from the members insisted that political players could not violate any of the provisions of the agreement. Their protest appeared to overlook the fact that the LPA is still not ratified by the rest of their parliamentary colleagues. The current Algerian-led peace initiative is looking for amendments that can be universally accepted.

The key sticking point for the HoR has been the relinquishing of parliament’s control of the armed forces to the Presidency Council (PC).

Though UNSMIL chief Martin Kobler has been saying that Hafter has an important role to play in a future unified armed forces, many Misratans object to Hafter because of his past as a Qadaffy general. More than 1,200 'Quit Damascus Rebel Zones' under Deal
[An Nahar] More than 1,200 people including rebels left two opposition-held districts of Damascus on Friday under an agreement that will bring Syria's government closer to exerting full control over the capital.

For more than two years, the government of Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Trampler of Homs...
has touted such "reconciliation deals" as the best way to end the country's brutal war.

Friday's evacuations were part of the first such deal for the Syrian capital itself.

According to Syrian state news agency SANA, 718 rebels were among a total of 1,246 people evacuated from the Damascus districts of Barzeh and Tishrin.

"The exit of armed fighters and their families will be completed in several waves in the coming days until the district is completely free of any signs of armed people," the agency said.

Earlier on Friday, SANA said that 664 people including 103 rebels had left the northern district of Barzeh, but it did not give a number for Tishrin.

A source from the pro-government National Defense Forces confirmed the same number of evacuees from Barzeh and told AFP they left on 12 buses.

"The evacuations are part of the deal reached first in Barzeh, to which the neighboring northeastern district of Tishrin was later added," the source said.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said that months of negotiations had been held to secure the evacuations of three rebel districts of Damascus: Barzeh, Tishrin and Qabun, also in the northeast.

The deal for Barzeh was agreed first and the evacuations began on Monday, with 1,022 people including 560 rebels leaving the district and heading to the country's north.

Talks over Tishrin continued in secret throughout the week until Friday, according to Observatory head Rami Abdel Rahman.

No deal has yet been reached on Qabun, where government forces on Thursday seized control of a number of apartment blocks and a power station, the Observatory said.

Abdel Rahman said the advance was part of efforts to push rebels there to join the evacuation agreement.

Syria's government has announced its intent to include more Damascus neighborhoods in the deal, among them Qabun and the Paleostinian camp of Yarmuk in the south.

"We are working on Qabun and there is the Yarmuk camp, where talks are under way for the evacuation of gangs," Foreign Minister Walid Muallem said earlier this week.

Final Push on Raqa in Early Summer, Says SDF
[An Nahar] A U.S.-backed alliance of Arabs and Kurds will launch their final assault on the Islamic State group's Syrian bastion Raqa in early summer, a commander said on Friday.

"The attack on Raqa will take place in the beginning of the summer," Syrian Democratic Forces commander Rojda Felat told AFP without giving a more precise date.

He was speaking in the town of Tabqa, which the SDF captured from IS on Wednesday along with its nearby dam.

#1  If the good folks modified Mr. Delgado's check in any way (like adding a zero or changing the 'pay to' line), then it's bank fraud. You know, Federal stuff.

Don't know the whole story, but sure looks like it from here.

#2  It does look like there are two different handwritings on Delgado's check. From the Party-of-Corruption in the Baton Rough area. The Hayride reporting about people being taken for a ride by the Donks.

The added verbiage was a mixture.

Afghanistan
'Heavy Clashes' Ongoing In Baghlan’s Burka District
[Tolo News] A group of Talibs attacked security forces’ outposts in Burka district in Baghlan province at mid-night on Thursday, security sources confirmed on Friday.

The sources said the Taliban
...Arabic for students...
has arrived close to the district governor’s office and heavy festivities are ongoing between government forces and the bad boys.

Sources have said that the Taliban fighters have entered the Baghlan district through Takhar and Kunduz provinces.

Reinforcements have arrived at the area to help government forces in the district.

The sources said that at least 30 Talibs were killed in the battle.

According to the sources, up to 20 Afghan soldiers were killed or maimed in the festivities.

On Thursday, security officials in Baghlan said Talibs have suffered a heavy casualty toll in the province and have been pushed back by government forces in the past two weeks following the launch of their summer offensive.

The officials said the Taliban’s offensive in Baghlan has so far failed and the province has become a "grave" for the fighters of the group.

Islamabad High Court allows Geo News to air Ehsanullah Ehsan's interview
[DAWN] The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Friday allowed Geo News to air an interview of former Tehrik-e-Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
(TTP) spokesperson Ehsanullah Ehsan
...formerly the front man for the Pak Taliban, now the lips and tongue of the Jamaatul Ahrar splinter group in Mohmand Agency...
Ehsan had recently surrendered to the authorities and has since been in military’s custody.

Pakistain Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) had earlier barred the TV channel from airing the interview saying it would be "heart-wrenching and deeply disturbing for the loved ones of those killed in terrorist attacks to see the member of a terrorist organization appearing on TV screen."

The Pemra order was challenged in Islamabad High Court (IHC) by the Independent Media Corporation (IMC), which is a conglomerate of the Jang Group of Newspapers [including Geo News].

Justice Amir Farooq accepted IMC's appeal and directed Pemra to bring the matter to court, if it feels any of its guidelines would be violated as a result of Ehsan's interview being aired.

Not too long ago, Pemra Chairman Absar Alam expressed his dissatisfaction with courts "stalling" Pemra's directives. Speaking at a presser on Monday, he appealed to Chief Justice Saqib Nisar to expedite legal proceedings that have seen 333 out of 357 notices issued by Pemra challenged and stayed by different courts.

The court delivered its judgement on the matter of Ehsanullah Ehsan's interview being allowed to air, after hearing arguments from both sides.

IMC's counsel insisted that Pemra had failed to consider the interview in light of its context and explained to the court that the video interview, recorded in cooperation with the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), was given to Pemra along with an invitation to edit the interview to its satisfaction but Pemra "refused" to do so.

IMC's counsel added that Geo News was careful not to violate the law, which is why they refrained from airing the interview and took the matter to court instead.

One the aims of airing the interview, IMC's counsel argued, was to encourage other forces of Evil to surrender.

Earlier, Pemra had issued the order against the airing of Ehsan’s interview last month after promo of the interview was aired on Geo News.

Ebola Outbreak Declared in Northeast DR Congo
More on this report from yesterday.
[An Nahar] An Ebola outbreak has been declared in northeast Democratic Republic of the Congo
...formerly the Congo Free State, Belgian Congo, Zaire, and who knows what else, not to be confused with the Brazzaville Congo aka Republic of Congo, which is much smaller and much more (for Africa) stable. DRC gave the world Patrice Lumumba and Joseph Mobutu, followed by years of tedious civil war. Its principle industry seems to be the production of corpses. With a population of about 74 million it has lots of raw material...
, the World Health Organization said Friday, after the virus caused three deaths in the area since April 22.

The WHO said the outbreak affects an equatorial forest region in Bas-Uele province, bordering Central African Republic.

The last Ebola outbreak in Congo in 2014 was quickly contained and killed 49 people according to official figures.

In a television address, Health Minister Oly Ilunga confirmed the outbreak while urging the population "not to panic".

The country "has taken all necessary measures to respond quickly and efficiently to this new outbreak," he said.

The WHO said it was working closely with DR Congo authorities to help deploy health workers and protective equipment in the remote area, which is difficult for teams to access, in order to "rapidly control the outbreak".

25 killed as Deputy Chairman Senate Haideri's convoy hit by explosion in Mastung
[DAWN] At least 25 people have been killed and over 40 others injured in an kaboom in Balochistan
...the Pak province bordering Kandahar and Uruzgun provinces in Afghanistan and Sistan Baluchistan in Iran. Its native Baloch propulation is being displaced by Pashtuns and Punjabis and they aren't happy about it...
's Mastung district, which is around an hour's drive from the quiet provincial capital, Quetta.

The bombing took place near a local seminary shortly after Friday prayers.

Deputy Chairman Senate Abdul Ghafoor Haideri
...Central Secretary General of JUI-F, member of the Pak senate, formerly provincial minister of Balochistan. He has a master's degree in Islam and runs a madrassah...
's convoy was hit in the attack. The kaboom occurred right as Haideri's convoy was exiting the seminary.

A Senate director staff, Iftikhar Mughal, was reportedly killed in the attack.

It is unclear whether the kaboom was the result of an improvised bomb (IED) or a suicide kaboom. Police say the attack is likely to have been a suicide kaboom.

Haideri had been invited to the seminary for an investiture ceremony, DawnNews reported.
Sounds like an inside job.
An eyewitness present at the event said the guests were leaving for a luncheon when Haideri's convoy came under attack.
Walked right into the setup. Maybe he drove.
The eyewitness told DawnNews that there was an kaboom, followed by sustained firing. "After the air cleared, we saw bodies everywhere."

A police car was part of Haideri's security detail and police officials are among those injured in the blast, another eyewitness said.

Haideri belongs to Jamaat Ulema-e-Islam
...Assembly of Islamic Clergy, or JUI, is a Pak Deobandi (Hanafi) political party. There are two main branches, one led by Maulana Fazlur Rahman, and one led by Maulana Samiul Haq. Fazl is active in Pak politix and Sami spends more time running his madrassah. Both branches sponsor branches of the Taliban, though with plausible deniability...
-Fazl (JUI-F).

While speaking briefly to media, he said he had suffered minor injuries but was otherwise fine.

He has been shifted to Combined Military Hospital Quetta for treatment. His condition, according to Balochistan government front man Anwar ul Haq Kakar, is "safe and sound".

Nearby vehicles were damaged by the impact of the blast. -- DawnNews
