Venezuela supermarkets besieged after government forces price cuts
President Maduro's decree that "We are ALL rich and our stomachs full" doesn't seem to have made a difference. *snicker*
[Yahoo] Mobs of Venezuelans gathered outside some Caracas supermarkets on Saturday after President Nicolas Maduro's government forced shops to slash prices, the latest unrest in the country's food shortage crisis.

Authorities on Friday ordered supermarkets to cut prices to levels they were a month ago, a drastic reduction given Venezuela's hyperinflation.

At one supermarket in a high-end district of Caracas, hundreds of people including babies, pensioners and children with disabilities gathered in chaotic scenes.

"We're hungry! We want food!" they screamed.
"In my house, we don't eat three times a day," said MileidyAcosta, a 28-year-old with three children. "People are fed up. A person earning the minimum wage couldn't buy even tomato sauce."

Maduro raised the minimum wage this year, though at the black market exchange rate it is still worth just $2 per month. The Venezuelan currency has weakened some 98 percent against the U.S. dollar in the last year.

On top of hunger affecting millions, shortages of medicines have led to needless deaths as the country goes through an economic crisis. Long supermarket lines and people eating from the trash are common sights.

Maduro's government blames the problems on the opposition, the United States and business people he says are waging an "economic war" against his government.

Critics instead point to strict currency and price controls, enacted originally more than a decade ago, and a badly planned economic policy.

"This doesn't help us. If they supply something, it'll be gone in a few days and they won't supply more," said Edgar Romero, a 45-year-old drummer who said he initially had supported Maduro's predecessor Hugo Chavez. "But we have to eat."

United Airlines plane forced to land due to passenger's poo in lavs
[BBC] The United Airlines flight was forced to make an unscheduled landing in Anchorage on Thursday evening due to a "passenger smearing faeces everywhere".

Police said the man, a US resident, Mr. Hoo Flung Poo of Vietnamese origin, made no threats.

It is not clear what led to the episode taking place.

"We received a report of a passenger who had messed up the bathrooms with his own faeces," Anchorage Airport police spokesman Lt Joe Gamache said.

The passenger, a 22-year-old whose name has not been released, was co-operative and faced "no appropriate charges for anything criminal", Lt Gamache added.

The man, who made no threats and did not try to interfere with the flight crew, was handcuffed by police at Anchorage International Airport and escorted off the plane.

Police told Anchorage TV station KTUU that he was taken to a hospital for a mental health assessment after being interviewed through a translator.

United Airlines said in a statement that flight UA895 was carrying 245 people when it was diverted because of "a disruptive passenger".

Hotel accommodation was provided for those on board, the statement added.

U.S. freezes grant to UNRWA
The United States administration froze a $125 million grant to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), the UN’s agency for "Palestinian refugees", which was supposed to be delivered on January 1, Channel 10 News reported on Friday, citing three Western diplomats.

The amount frozen is one-third of the annual funding the United States provides the organization, according to the report.

The three diplomats, who asked to remain anonymous because of the political sensitivity of the issue, told Channel 10 the grant had been frozen until the end of the reexamination of U.S. aid to the Palestinians, which began in recent days. According to the diplomats, officials in the administration have informed UN officials in the past two days that President Donald Trump is considering cutting this amount completely and could even increase the cut to $180 million, which would be half the total U.S. funding for UNRWA.
And I put this in WOT operations because money is a weapon
With that explanation, I am forced to leave it there.

Arabia
Eleven Saudi princes reportedly detained after protests
[NYPost] Saudi authorities have detained 11 princes after they gathered at a royal palace in Riyadh in a rare protest against austerity measures that included suspending payment of their utility bills, Saudi media reported on Saturday. Saudi officials did not respond immediately to a request for a comment on the report.

Saudi Arabia, the world's top oil exporter, has introduced reforms that included cutting subsidies, introducing value added tax (VAT) and cutting perks to royal family members to try to cope with a drop in crude prices that has caused a budget deficit estimated at 195 billion riyals in 2018.

Online news website sabq.org said the princes had gathered at the Qasr a-Hokm, a historic royal palace, demanding the cancellation of a royal decree that stopped state payment of water and electricity bills for royal family members.
Oh, the humanity!
They were also demanding compensation for a death sentence issued against a relative, Sabq.org said.

"They were informed of the error of their demands, but they refused to leave Qasr al-Hokm," Sabq said, quoting unidentified sources. "A royal order was issued to the royal guards ... to intervene and they were detained and put into al-Hayer prison in preparation to put them on trial."

It gave no details on the identity of the princes but said the leader of the group had been identified by the initials S.A.S.

"Everybody is equal before the law and anyone who does not implement regulations and instructions will be held accountable, no matter who he is," the website added.
A new concept for all involved, to be sure.
Arabic-language Okaz daily carried a similar report. Reuters could not immediately verify the report.

Saudi Arabia last year rounded up dozens of royal family members, current and former senior officials in a crackdown on corruption that has also strengthened the power of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

Former PM Tony Blair: Wolff Book Claims 'A Complete Fabrication'
BLUF:
[Hot Air] Wolff wrote that Blair suggested there was a possibility "that the British had had the Trump campaign staff under surveillance, monitoring its telephone calls and other communications and possibly even Trump himself".

Wolff’s book also repeated speculation that Blair had been angling to be Trump’s Middle East envoy. ...

Interviewed on BBC Radio 4’s Today programme he said: "This story is a complete fabrication, literally from beginning to end. I’ve never had such conversation in the White House, outside of the White House, with Jared Kushner, with anybody else."

I believe the 'Doughnut' theory has been presented previously. Perhaps the Klingons knew Admiral Rogers would never participate, so they took their 'regime change' business elsewhere. Sometimes it's more advantageous to lease rather than own.

Most fabrications of this sort contain snippets of truth. Quite interesting that Tony jumped on the story with both feet.

Pestilence: Washington Has A Serious Rat Problem, Complaints Up 64%
[Hot Air] Before you drain the swamp, you might need to get rid of some of the rats in the nation’s capitol. Wednesday the Washington Post reported that the number of complaints about rats is up sharply in Washington, DC and rat control experts for the city are recommending a new way of dealing with them:

With complaints to the city’s 311 phone line concerning rats at a four-year high, city officials are turning to dry ice ‐ the frozen form of carbon dioxide ‐ to suffocate rodents. But dry ice will not replace the poison that the District’s rodent control division currently uses, said its program manager Gerard Brown.

"It’s just going to be another tool in our toolbox," said Brown, who has been killing rats in Washington for 30 years.

His explanation for how dry ice works is concise, and a little dramatic: "The CO2 that emanates from the dry ice suffocates the rats, and their homes become their graves," he said...

The District’s rat problem is not new, but it has worsened in recent years. The surging rat population is driven by a combination of factors, including Washington’s booming human population, which means more trash, and recent mild winters, which means fewer rats die from frigid temperatures ‐ although city officials are hoping the current cold snap will help reduce the population.

There have been 3,286 rat complaints to the city this fiscal year, up 64 percent from fiscal year 2015, according to data from the health department.

Rats congregate in our largest cities where they can scour the alleys and subway platforms for a free lunch (and dinner). Orkin pest control puts out a list of the U.S. cities with the worst rat problems every year and in the most recent list, Washington actually came in 5th place behind Chicago, New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco. One New Yorker seemed skeptical that any city could have more rats than New York. From the NY Daily News:

Obama Wanted To Get Rid Of Him, NSA Head Admiral Rogers Is Leaving On His Own
[Daily Caller] Admiral Mike Rogers is reportedly expected to step down this spring, retiring after four years as the director of the National Security Agency, Politico revealed Friday.
Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe the four years which Admiral Rogers will soon complete is the standard tour of duty.
The embattled NSA director is said to have made the announcement to agency staff, Reuters reported Friday, citing a tweet by a Washington Post reporter. President Donald Trump will likely name a successor sometime before the end of the month.

Former President Barack Obama nominated Rogers in 2014, and he took the helm at a time when the NSA was still reeling in the wake of the devastating Edward Snowden leaks.

He faced staunch criticism from other intelligence and defense leaders, as former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper and former Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter both recommended a little over a year ago that the White House relieve him of his duties, citing inadequacies in his performance.

Several major security breaches occurred on Rogers’ watch, such as the damaging theft of sensitive materials by Booz Allen Hamilton contractor and TAO employee Harold T. Martin III and another serious data breach in the summer of 2015. "[Rogers] has been at the helm of the NSA at the time of some of the most egregious security breaches," a senior administration official told the Washington Post in the fall of 2016.

He also aggravated the Obama administration by secretly meeting with then President-elect Trump in late 2016 without informing his superiors.

This past year, the NSA has been struggling to deal with the online leak of its top secret cyber warfare tools, and the news of Rogers’ departure comes amid reports that many highly-skilled agency staff members are fleeing the NSA for better opportunities in the private sector. The NSA has also been forced to handle the fallout after former contractor Reality Winner allegedly leaked the details of an agency intelligence report on Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.

Despite some of his shortcomings, Rogers has managed to reform Cyber Command and appears to have boosted the overall capabilities of this elite warfighting unit. He also maintains the support of many American lawmakers in Congress.

VDH: The Great Experiment
h/t Instapundit
Most new administrations do not really completely overturn their predecessors’ policies to enact often-promised ideologically driven change.

The 18-year span of Harry Truman to Dwight Eisenhower to John F. Kennedy was mostly a continuum from center-left to center-right, back to center-left. Kennedy was probably as hawkish and as much of a tax cutter as was Eisenhower.

The seven years of Jerry Ford to Jimmy Carter were a similar transition ‐ or even the twelve years of George H. W. Bush to Bill Clinton. The deck chairs changed, but the ship sailed in mostly the same manner to mostly the same direction.

Even the supposed great divide of 1981 did not mean that Jimmy Carter had been as left-wing as Ronald Reagan was right-wing. Carter’s fight against inflation and renewed defense build-up was continued in part by Reagan. George W. Bush was not as markedly right-wing as Barack Obama was clearly left-wing. In sum, there have rarely been back-to-back complete reversals in presidential agendas.

From Hard Progressive to Hard Conservative Ideology

Whatever Donald J. Trump’s political past and vociferous present, his first year of governance is most certainly as hard conservative as Barack Obama’s eight years were hard progressive. We are watching a rare experiment in political governance play out, as we go, in back-to-back fashion, from one pole to its opposite.
Personally, I hope that Obama era marked peak stupidity in American, and hence World, affairs - because we couldn't survive another such.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Our World: Trump kicks America's Palestinian habit
[Jpost] It was probably a coincidence that US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley hailed the Iranian anti-regime protesters and threatened to end US financial support for UNRWA ‐ the UN Palestinian refugee agency ‐ and the Palestinian Authority more generally in the same briefing. But they are integrally linked.

It is no coincidence that Hamas is escalating its rocket attacks on Israel as the Iranian regime confronts the most significant domestic challenge it has ever faced.

As IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Gadi Eisenkot said this week, Iranian assistance to Hamas is steadily rising. Last August, Hamas acknowledged that Iran is its greatest military and financial backer. In 2017, Iran transferred $70 million to the terrorist group.

Eisenkot said that in 2018, Iran intends to transfer $100m. to Hamas.

If Iran is Hamas’s greatest state sponsor, UNRWA is its partner. UNRWA is headquartered in Gaza. It is the UN’s single largest agency. It has more than 11,500 employees in Gaza alone. UNRWA’s annual budget is in excess of $1.2 billion. Several hundred million each year is spent in Gaza.

The US is UNRWA’s largest funder. In 2016, it transferred more than $368m. to UNRWA.

For the past decade, the Center for Near East Policy Research has copiously documented how UNRWA in Gaza is not an independent actor. Rather it is an integral part of Hamas’s regime in Gaza.
So Iran gives Hamas $70 million and USA gives it $368m?

Nationalist Latvian lawmaker says Russian is 'language of Zionism'
[Jpost] A senior politician in Latvia labeled Russian "the language of international Zionism."

Alexander Kirshtejns, Deputy Speaker of the Latvian parliament, or Saeima, from the bloc of the National Association, made the statement, which at least one anti-racism activist in Latvia called antisemitic, on Thursday, the BaltNews service reported. He said Russian in this regard was the same as Yiddish and Hebrew.

Kirshtejns, a nationalist who has lobbied for the removal of street signs and monuments for Russian-speakers, said this during a debate on opposition to a government plan to switch all schools and educational institutions in Latvia to Latvian. Approximately a quarter of Latvia’s population of 2 million people are ethnically Russian, according to estimates.

To prove his point about Zionism, he cited Jewish-sounding last names of people he said were involved in protests against the plan to phase out the instruction in Russian in the country’s schools: Zhdanok, Gilman and Pliner.

[PRESSTV] China has imposed tighter trade limits on North Korea to increase pressure on its neighbor over its weapons program. Beijing said on Friday it would limit exports of crude oil, refined petroleum, steel and other goods to North Korea starting January 6 to meet a recent resolution of the United Nations Security Council.

Industrial Strength Trolling: ‘The Gorilla Channel' ‐ Fake News Brigade Falls For Hilarious Spoof Of Michael Wolff's Trump Book
[DailyCaller] Liberals fell for a parody excerpt of Michael Wolff’s "Fire and Fury" book that claimed Trump was angry he couldn’t find "The Gorilla Channel" on the White House cable package.

Pixelated Boat, a comedy Twitter account with over 100k followers, wrote a hilarious parody of Wolff’s book on Friday. The fake passage said Trump thought the TV in his bedroom was broken because it didn’t have "the gorilla channel," so aides strung together a number of gorilla documentaries and broadcast it as a fake cable channel for the president.
Hit the link for hilarity.

#2  Some people will believe anything. New York is flooded by rising water from the Sea and right now I am going outside to fry an egg on the sidewalk.
And Trump took the Oath of Office wearing a Gorilla Suit. Oh and the American People didn't vote for Donald Trump , the Russians held a gun to our heads and Ordered us to do it.

The MSM can be trusted to tell you to believe you can trust their biases and BS. Say, Bahhhh. Obama was the greatest President that the USA ever had, and Hillary is the breath of Honesty and not a greedy corrupt bitch. I read it in the NYT. and the Washington Post.

The entire American People are demented racists and totally deranged. You believe that? Gee, I wish I went to College and learned to think for myself. Liberals are impressive, they live in Hollywood and gather in New York ..and enjoy money and success. I think I will invite the Snowflakes to watch me boil that egg on the sidewalk right now.

Thousands hundreds lots of Iranians protest UN Security Council meeting
[ALMASDARNEWS] Hundreds of pro-government supporters marched through the streets of Tehran, Friday, ahead of the UN Security Council (UNSC) meeting on Iran.

Supporters burned a banner depicting USA flag with what appeared to be Star of David symbols, denouncing US President Donald Trump’s alleged support of anti-government protests in Iran.

The UN Security Council is set to hold an emergency meeting later on Friday to discuss protests in Iran, at the US request. Moscow has argued that the US call for the meeting interferes with Iran’s sovereignty.

At least 21 people have died in anti-government protests since Thursday with rallies against rising food prices, unemployment and alleged corruption. President Hassan Rouhani acknowledged the public’s anger over Iran’s flagging economy but vowed to crackdown on lawbreakers. Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has also blamed the recent unrest on meddling by “enemies of Iran.”

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Steinle Shooter Dodges State Prison, Sentenced To Time Served
[Daily Caller] The illegal immigrant who discharged a firearm and killed 32-year-old Kate Steinle was sentenced to three years in prison Friday, but he won’t be spending any more time in state jail.

Jose Ines Garcia Zarate was acquitted of Steinle’s murder in December, but a jury convicted him of the lesser charge of a felony in possession of a firearm. Since he has been detained in the San Francisco jail since his arrest on July 1, 2015, he was credited for time served.

Garcia Zarate will be on state parole for 48 months and will be transferred to federal custody. He faces federal weapons charges under a Dec. 5 indictment.

The Steinle shooting touched off a nationwide debate over sanctuary cities after it was revealed that San Francisco authorities had released Garcia Zarate despite an outstanding detention request by immigration authorities. Then-candidate Donald Trump pointed to the incident as a tragic consequence of San Francisco’s refusal to cooperate with immigration authorities.

At trial, defense attorneys conceded that Garcia Zarate fired the shot that killed Steinle, but asserted that he had accidentally discharged the pistol, which he found under a bench on the San Francisco pier. That argument swayed the jury, which acquitted Garcia Zarate of murder, manslaughter, and assault with a deadly weapon.

Garcia Zarate could be arraigned as early as next week for the federal weapons charge, reports Fox News. The charge carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in federal prison.

These officials need to be named. And they will be.

... after the safety was turned off? And then the trigger pulled. And not pointed at the ground or up in the air but pointed at people when it accidentally went off "three times"?

Erdogan lashes out at French journalist after jihadist aid question
[ALMASDARNEWS] French President Emmanuel Macron received his Ottoman Turkish counterpart Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him. It's a sin, a shame, and a felony to insult the president of Turkey...
in Gay Paree on Friday, with the Syrian conflict and media freedom in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
high on the agenda.

On the subject of press freedom and terror, Erdogan appeared to accuse journalists of aiding and abetting forces of Evil through their writing.

"Terror and forces of Evil have gardeners," Erdogan is reported as saying. "They do not appear by themselves. They water from their columns on newspapers. One day these people appear in front of you as terrorists."

Erdogan also said that he is ’tired’ of waiting for the EU to decide on Turkey’s membership.

His visit takes place amid anti-Erdogan demonstrations over press freedom and the deterioration of human rights
...which are usually entirely different from personal liberty...
in the French capital.

Rob Ski at AK Operators Union says that Rostec, the Russian holding company is the latest target of US sanctions. Rostec owns Tulammo, which exports to the US a wide variety of ammunition, including the AR, the AK-47, AJ 74 and 7.62 NATO. The action will wipe out a large number of ammunition offerings from sale, which --could-- drive ammunition prices for those and other calibers up.

Russian made ammunition is generally considered to be of lesser, though not necessarily poorer quality than US made ammunition. For my AK-74 I rely on Barnaul, which is a different firm that makes all the "Bear" ammunition: Silver Bear 5.45x39mm, 60 grain bullet.

Speaking of which, Friday was a day the Lord made. Temperature 25 degrees, calm wind, first light, 300 rounds down range, no jams and no misfires. Plus, I think I found the sweet spot for hitting a 10x10 inch target from 200 yards away.

I suffered the reverse Kuntzman effect thereafter.

Loads.

Rantburg's summary for arms and ammunition:

Pistol ammunition prices were mostly steady. Rifle ammunition prices were steady.

Prices for used pistols were mixed. Prices for used rifles were mixed.

Baghdad Bombs & Bullets Bulletin: 12 casualties, one arrest

Twelve people killed, injured in two bomb blasts in Baghdad

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) Twelve people were killed and wounded in two bomb blasts in north and west of Baghdad, security sources were quoted saying.

“A bomb, placed near a popular market in Sabaa al-Bour region in al-Taji district, north of Baghdad, exploded,” a source told Baghdad Today on Friday.

“The blast left a civilian killed and six others wounded,” the source, who preferred anonymity, added. “Ambulances transferred the wounded to hospital for treatment, while the victim was taken to the forensic medicine department.”

In related news, another bomb blast occurred in west of Baghdad leaving five people wounded.

“A bomb went off near a market in al-Radwaniya region, west of Baghdad,” another source added.

“The blast left five people wounded,” the source, who asked to remain anonymous, said.

Islamic State’s media official arrested in Baghdad: Ministry

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Iraqi Defense Ministry has announced arresting the Islamic State member in charge of the militant group’s media in Baghdad.

In a statement on Friday, the ministry said the intelligence department and Baghdad security troops managed to arrest the group’s media official in the so-called Diyala State.
Translation problem? Normally it is described as Diyala province, I believe.
“The militant was at one of the houses in Aadhamiya region, north of Baghdad,” it added.
That appears to be a neighbourhood of Baghdad...

Operation Condor – How NSA Director Mike Rogers Saved The U.S. From a Massive Constitutional Crisis…
[Last Refuge] This outline is the stunning backstory to how the FBI Counterintelligence Division and DOJ National Security Division were weaponized. This outline is the full story of what House Intelligence Chairman Devin Nunes is currently working to expose. This outline exposes the biggest political scandal in U.S. history. This outline is also the story of how one man’s action likely saved our constitutional republic.

His name is Admiral Mike Rogers.

I’m calling the back-story to the 2016 FISA 702(16)(17) political corruption by the Obama administration “Operation Condor”. Those of you familiar with the film “Three Days of The Condor” will note how the real life storyline almost mirrors the Hollywood film. For the real life version, NSA Director Admiral Mike Rogers plays the role of “Condor”.

“SCIF” – a Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility. To understand the larger FISA 702(16)(17) issues in 2016 it is important to focus on the word “compartmented”.

Intelligence information is housed by compartments. Each intelligence unit holds intelligence unique to that compartment. The FBI Counter-Intelligence Unit would hold the intelligence information specific to their task or assignment; the DOJ National Security Division would hold their own compartmented intelligence; again, specific to their task and objectives. So too would the DOJ, DoD (Pentagon), State Dept., or CIA.

This compartmented structure is what led to the creation of the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, ODNI. The 911 commission recommended the office to serve as a hub able to ensure intelligence sharing; that is – to ensure intelligence was not intentionally withheld from other compartments when needed.

In 2016 the ODNI for President Obama was James Clapper.

#2  As many of you are aware, immediately following the 2016 presidential election NSA Director Admiral Mike Rogers traveled to Trump Tower to meet with president-elect Donald Trump. The day AFTER the Rogers visit, President-elect Trump moved his transition team out of Trump Tower to Bedminister New Jersey.

We always suspected NSA Director Rogers gave President-elect Trump a head’s up of sorts.

#3  The way the author ties the timelines together with the known public events, and the analysis of likely connections makes the full read totally compelling. This connects the way the intelligence system was perverted at the highest levels into a political spying tool, and how people who took the oath to the Constitution sold out to raw democrat political power and the expectations of reward. Tragic...

Europe
Anti-migrant attacks surge in Greece's Piraeus
[Al Jazeera] Racist attacks targeting the homes of migrant workers have surged in Piraeus, a port city near the Greek capital, since Christmas, according to an anti-racist activist group.

More than 30 homes where migrant labourers reside - most of whom are Pak nationals - have been targeted since December 25, the anti-racist group Keerfa said on Friday.

Petros Constantinou, Keerfa's national director, said the sharp uptick in violence comes amid a 40-day period of attacks on migrant homes in the area.

"It's been happening at least three times per week," he told Al Jazeera. "They are targeting homes where it is obvious migrants colonists are living."

The incidents have taken place primarily in Renti and Nikaia, two neighbourhoods in Piraeus with large immigrant populations.

Constantinou said anti-Moslem slogans had also been spray-painted on the entrances and walls of several homes. "These appear to be organised attacks," he said, explaining that the assailants were swiftly picked up by getaway cars after the incidents concluded.

A quick search doesn't show any sort of Muslim unrest in Piraeus, and the self-flagulation events for the Shiites don't seem to occur at this time of the year. My best guess is a general Greek intolerance for these people being here.

Migrant labourers in a country with long term high unemployment? The wonder is that the properties haven’t been burnt down with them inside.

And how many arrived illegally? Send them all back, and give their jobs to locals.

ESPN’s Jemele Hill on Calling Trump a ‘White Supremacist’: ‘I Don’t Regret What I Said'
[BREITBART] ESPN host Jemele Hill says she is not sorry for the content of a tweet, in which she called President Trump a “white supremacist.” Instead, her only regret is that she used social media as her platform to do it.
What's that have to do with sports?
Hill, the host of the network’s popular SportsCenter, has continued to spout her political views despite finger waging from ESPN bosses. She has even continued her commentary after the entire company was brought together for a mandatory meeting to go over the company’s ban on overtly political comments on social media. Indeed, she is even unrepentant despite having served a two-week suspension for breaking the company’s social media policy.

Hill first sparked controversy when she jumped to Twitter last year to call President Donald Trump a “white supremacist.” Hill was scolded but not punished by ESPN for that violation, but after a second violation only a few weeks later, network bosses handed Hill a two-week suspension.

This month, Hill appeared on the Sports Illustrated Media Podcast and told host Richard Deitsch that she doesn’t regret her comments in the least. She only regrets that she made her comments on Twitter.

Manchester bombing 'hero' pleads guilty to robbing victims
Extreme situations bring out the rat bastardy in some, even as they bring out the good in others.
[DW] The homeless man claimed to have helped maimed concert goers in the immediate aftermath of the bombing at an Ariana Grande concert. Video recordings from the scene showed a very different story.

A homeless man who claimed to have helped victims of a suicide kaboom during a pop concert at Britannia's Manchester Arena in May pleaded guilty to stealing from them on Wednesday.

Chris Parker made headlines after British media interviewed him following the attack at the Ariana Grande concert that killed 22 people and injured 59.

The 33-year-old said in an interview with the PA news agency that "instead of running away [after the kaboom] my gut instinct was to run back and try and help." He added that a woman had died in his arms while he was attending to her.

Parker received more than $65,000 (€54,000) in donations after people raised money on a fundraising website in response to the interview.

However,
corruption finds a dozen alibis for its evil deeds...
security footage showed Parker had been wandering between the victims as they lay maimed and dying on the floor.

Police enjugged

Parker, who has previous convictions for burglary, on Tuesday after he failed to appear at Manchester Crown Court.

He admitted to stealing a mobile phone from a 14-year-old and a bank card from an elderly woman. He later used the card at a local hamburger restaurant.

Parker will be held in jug until his sentencing on January 30. Judge David Hernandez said a prison term was "most likely."

Jihadists send large number of reinforcements to Idlib
[ALMASDARNEWS] The jihadist rebels recently sent a large number of reinforcements to the Idlib Governorate to help build their defenses around the strategic Abu Dhuhour Military Airport in the eastern part of the province, a Syrian military source told al-Masdar News on Friday.

According to the military source, jihadist rebels from Harakat Ahrar al-Sham
...a Syria jihadi group made up of Islamists and salafists, not that there's that much difference, formed into a brigade. They make up the main element of the Islamic Front but they don't profess adoration of al-Qaeda and they've been fighting (mainly for survival) against the Islamic State. Their leadership was wiped out at a single blow by a suicide kaboom at a crowded basement meeting in September, 2014...
, Harakat Nouriddeen al-Zinki, and several other factions have moved to the southern and eastern parts of Idlib to help defend the province, despite their tiffs with the al-Qaeda linked Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham
terrorist group.

The source added that foreign jihadists from Turkestan and Uzbekistan moved from Jisr al-Shughour, the al-Ghaab Plain, and northeast Latakia to aid in this battle against the Syrian Arab Army (SAA).

In the coming weeks, the battle for Idlib will likely intensify as the Syrian Arab Army pushes further north from the Hama axis towards the Abu Dhuhour Military Airport.

Equatorial Guinea: UN Dispatches Envoy Amid Reports of Failed Coup
[All Africa] The United Nations
...an idea whose time has gone...
has said it will send an envoy to Equatorial Guinea after officials there announced that they had thwarted a December 24 coup attempt mounted by foreign mercenaries against President Teodoro Obiang Nguema.

A front man said Thursday that the UN's West Africa envoy, Francois Louceny Fall, would travel to the capital, Malabo, next week.

He said that while "little information" was available about the alleged coup attempt, "we condemn all attempts to seize power unconstitutionally" in the country.

Malabo's security minister, Mahamat Zen Cherif, made a televised statement on Wednesday saying that a group of mercenaries from Chad, Sudan and Central African Republic had tried to infiltrate Equatorial Guinea at the instigation of "certain radical opposition parties."

Hours after his televised statements, state broadcaster TGVE reported festivities on the border with Cameroon

Israel grants bail to Palestinian woman in 'slap video' case
[GEO.TV] Israel on Friday released a Paleostinian woman on bail after she was charged with assaulting an Israeli soldier in the occupied West Bank following a viral video of the incident.

She was jugged

Ahed and her mother Nariman Tamimi remain in jug.

Nour was allowed to return to her home in the village of Nabi Saleh, near the West Bank city of Ramallah, after posting a bail of 5,000 shekels ($1,450, 1,200 euros).

A guarantor vouched that she would show up for her court proceedings, set to begin on February 12, her lawyer Gaby Lasky told AFP.

US Designates Somalia-Based Al-Shabab’ Deputy Leader As ‘Global Terrorist’
[RADIOSHABELLE] The United States government has designated the deputy leader of the Somalia-based al-Shabaab
... the personification of Somali state failure...
myrmidon group a "global terrorist."

A State Department statement says the designation of Abukar Ali Adan blocks any assets of his that are subject to US jurisdiction and prohibits US citizens from making any transactions with him.

The al-Qaeda-linked al-Shabaab is the deadliest Islamic myrmidon group in Africa. It has been blamed for the October truck bombing in Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu, that killed 512 people.

Little is publicly known about the reclusive Ali Adan. The US has designated al-Shabaab as a foreign terrorist organization, and the Trump administration early last year approved expanded military efforts against the group. More than 30 US dronezaps were carried out against al-Shabaab last year.

Williamson says the fight now "enters a new phase" and expressed his government's commitment to continue working with the U.S.-led coalition to hunt down remaining IS fighters in Syria and elsewhere.

He spoke at a presser in Baghdad on Thursday. He signed a statement of intent for a 10 million British pounds ($13. 5 million) investment in Iraq's counter terrorism capacities.

Williamson said his government is determined to "win the war online, preventing (IS) viral propaganda from recruiting yet more fanatical fighters."

#2  No, it is not entering a "new phase" it is returning to Phase One of the "Management of Savagery." Back to creating regions of savagery or zones of chaos for them to exploit and move to fill. Phase two is building popular support and phase three is establishment of the caliphate. AQ thought IS moved way to quickly to phase 3, and that they would be destroyed once they did so... AQ was correct.

So, it is not a "new phase" it is back to phase one.

US citizen captured in Syria says he wants ACLU mout'piece
[ARABNEWS] An American citizen picked up on the Syrian battlefield and held by the US military for nearly four months without a lawyer has told the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) that he wants to challenge his detention, a lawyer for the civil rights group said Friday.

ACLU attorney Jonathan Hafetz said he and two other ACLU lawyers went to the Pentagon on Wednesday and spoke via videoconference with the detainee, who is being held as an enemy combatant accused of fighting with ISIS.

"He spoke loud and clear that he wants a lawyer and wants to challenge his detention now," Hafetz said, adding that the detainee also indicated that he wants the ACLU to represent him.

Hafetz said the detainee was born in the US but would not identify him. He "expressed concerns about his name being released and asked that it not be made public," Hafetz said.

The ACLU filed a court petition months ago, challenging the man’s detention and asking to act on his behalf to provide him access to legal counsel. Hafetz said that the detainee told the ACLU that he did not learn that the petition had been filed on his behalf until shortly before the video conference.

Last month, US District Judge Tanya Chutkan ruled that the US military must provide legal counsel to the detainee. The US government had acknowledged that it has detained him without fulfilling his request to see a lawyer. The judge ordered the military to let the ACLU have "immediate and unmonitored access to the detainee" to determine his wishes.

Reading privileged memory with a side-channel
Posted by Jann Horn, Project Zero

We have discovered that CPU data cache timing can be abused to efficiently leak information out of mis-speculated execution, leading to (at worst) arbitrary virtual memory read vulnerabilities across local security boundaries in various contexts.

Variants of this issue are known to affect many modern processors, including certain processors by Intel, AMD and ARM. For a few Intel and AMD CPU models, we have exploits that work against real software. We reported this issue to Intel, AMD and ARM on 2017-06-01 [1].

So far, there are three known variants of the issue:
  • Variant 1: bounds check bypass (CVE-2017-5753)

  • Variant 2: branch target injection (CVE-2017-5715)

  • Variant 3: rogue data cache load (CVE-2017-5754)
Before the issues described here were publicly disclosed, Daniel Gruss, Moritz Lipp, Yuval Yarom, Paul Kocher, Daniel Genkin, Michael Schwarz, Mike Hamburg, Stefan Mangard, Thomas Prescher and Werner Haas also reported them; their [writeups/blogposts/paper drafts] are at:
  • Spectre (variants 1 and 2)

  • Meltdown (variant 3)

Afghan government has no links with Daesh, Hekmatyar insists
[ARABNEWS] Former Afghan holy warrior leader Gulbuddin Hekmatyar
... who used to be known in intelligence circles as The Most Evil Man in the World but who now seems merely run-of-the-mill evil...
, who joined President Ashraf Ghani
...former chancellor of Kabul University, now president of Afghanistan. Before returning to Afghanistan in 2002 he was a scholar of political science and anthropology. He worked at the World Bank working on international development assistance. As Finance Minister of Afghanistan between July 2002 and December 2004, he led Afghanistan's attempted economic recovery until the Karzais stole all the money. ..
’s government last year, has categorically denied the allegation of links with ISIS turbans made by Afghan ex-spy chief Amrullah Saleh.

ISIS has emerged as a complex and murky phenomenon in Afghan militancy as the group stepped up and expanded its attacks in Afghanistan recently.

Saleh served for years as chief of Afghan intelligence agency, the National Directorate of Security
...the Afghan national intel agency...
(NDS), in the previous administration, and was a harsh critic and rival of Hekmatyar during the bloody factional fighting over power in the 1990s. His assertions come amid growing division within the Ghani government and ethnic tension stirred up mostly by politicians and factional leaders.

The veteran Hekmatyar, who is in his late 60s, is a leader of Hizb-e-Islami; one of the main Afghan factions who fought during the Cold War against the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan.

Last week, Saleh said the government "had 20 ISIS (ISIS) suspects in jug all having current or pre-reconciliation ties with Hekmatyar. None has been referred to the court system in order to cover up affiliation with Hekmatyar to save the deal. Hekmatyar has been lobbying and bargaining for their release."

Hekmatyar, in a news conference held in Kabul, Thursday, rejected Saleh’s allegations.

"It is just part of defamation (campaign) by liars. We don’t have any kind of political or party-based relations (with ISIS) and will not think about it. We don’t have relations with the Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
nor with ISIS or al-Qaeda or any other party."

's sons Bellarmine Chatunga and Robert Junior, stepson Russell Goreraza and son-in-law Simba Chikore and leading political figures face imminent arrest after it emerged this week that the country's anti-corruption commission was investigating an array of offences ranging from illegal gold trade, abuse of office, corruption and murder.

This comes as President Emmerson Mnangagwa's government embarked on a major corruption crackdown, which has already claimed the scalps of former home affairs minister Ignatius Chombo on allegations of corruption, former mines minister Walter Chidhakwa, former agriculture, mechanisation and irrigation development minister Joseph Made on various charges, with arrests of former ministers, permanent secretaries and members of Mugabe's family looming large.

It has also emerged that Mnangagwa has told ministers implicated in high-level corruption to come clean and voluntarily surrender their ill-gotten wealth.

"In the next few weeks, you're going to see some ministers quietly surrendering property, especially buildings, under the guise of donating to communities and empowering the poor. If they (ministers) don't do that voluntarily, they face the real prospect of being humiliated when crunch time comes. Should they refuse to comply, they will be investigated and prosecuted," a well-placed source said.

Sources confirmed that one particularly wealthy minister has been told to comply with the directive or face a formal probe.

"This is a serious matter. He was told that he is tarnishing the image of the new government because everyone keeps citing his corrupt dealings and how he acquired a vast business empire under controversial circumstances. Even some former ministers are approaching the new government to open talks on how they can take action towards surrendering some of their property," another source said.

Presidential Council freebooters force attacks Abu Kammash Chemical Complex in western Libya
[Libya Observer] An gang from Zintan loyal to the commander of the Western Military Zone of Presidential Council, Osama Jwaili, launched a surprise attack on Abu Kammash Chemical Complex, western Libya, on Friday in a bid to take control of the complex and Ras Ajdir border crossing with Tunisia.

The gang attacked the complex at around 4am causing some damage to Abu Kammash cop shoppe and its vehicles before being repelled by forces from Zuwara.

The residential area of Abu Kammash was evacuated for safety reasons. Ras Ajdir border was also closed.

The Amazigh Supreme Council deplored the attack, warning that "such actions could lead to an ethnic war."

On Thursday, Osama Jwaili revealed that his forces are going to launch "an anti-crime operation" in west Libya.

SHO in Peshawar suspended after policemen clash with local councillor
[GEO.TV] The SHO of Paharipura cop shoppe was suspended Friday after local councillor Malik Shahnawaz Khan reported police thrashed him when he stopped them from searching his house late Thursday night.

According to Shahnawaz, police wanted to search his house during an operation. However,
some people are alive only because it's illegal to kill them...
he added, since there were no female personnel with the force he did not let them enter his house.

Shahnawaz said police refused from calling female personnel and insisted they would search the house regardless.

Subsequently, an altercation took place between the police and Shahnawaz, locals said. The argument turned into a brawl between the two. The councillor showed bruises that he got during the clash.

Shahnawaz alleged that police broke into his house and damaged cupboards and door inside, while also took with them the closed-circuit cameras that were installed there. However,
some people are alive only because it's illegal to kill them...
he did not show his house to the media.

A committee has been formed under the charge of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa MPA Arbab Jahandad Khan, which will enquire the matter. Until then, the SHO has been suspended and closed to police lines i.e. he has been sent to the police lines from the cop shoppe.

100% of those around Trump consider him 'moron, idiot': Author
See more here.
[PRESSTV] The author of a very critical book about Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
's first year in office has said that "one hundred percent" of those around the US president consider him "moron, idiot."

Michael Wolff, whose book "Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House" went on sale on Friday, said in an interview he spent three hours with Trump during the presidential campaign and in the White House.

The author contradicted Trump's assertion that he had never talked to the writer for the book and had authorized "Zero access" to the White House.

Wolff told NBC News on Friday that for the book he conducted interviews with those in close contact with Trump and his entire circle questioned his fitness for office. The book depicts a president who was ill-prepared to win the office in 2016, and Trump aides who ridiculed his abilities.

"They all say he is like a child. And what they mean by that is he has a need for immediate gratification. It's all about him," he said.

"Let me put a marker in the sand here. One hundred percent of the people around him" question Trump's fitness for office, Wolff added.

PressTV: Ivanka, Kushner 'struck a deal’ for her to run for president

The author of the explosive new Trump book says he can't be sure if parts of it are true

[BusinessInsider] The author of the explosive new book about Donald Trump's presidency acknowledged in an author's note that he wasn't certain all of its content was true.

Michael Wolff, the author of "Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House," included a note at the start that casts significant doubt on the reliability of the specifics contained in the rest of its pages.

Several of his sources, he says, were definitely lying to him, while some offered accounts that flatly contradicted those of others.

In other cases, the media columnist said, he did use his journalistic judgment and research to arrive at what he describes "a version of events I believe to be true."
But some were nonetheless included in the vivid account of the West Wing's workings, in a process Wolff describes as "allowing the reader to judge" whether the sources' claims are true.

In other cases, the media columnist said, he did use his journalistic judgment and research to arrive at what he describes "a version of events I believe to be true."

Other people mentioned in the book have also disputed claims made about them.

Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, who the book said warned Trump that he may be under surveillance from British spies, issued a statement describing the claim as "categorically absurd" and "simply untrue."

Anna Wintour, the longtime Vogue editor, also dismissed the claim that she lobbied Trump to be his ambassador to the UK as "laughably preposterous."

Other journalists have also urged caution. Some cited Wolff's track record ‐ questions were raised about his 2008 book on Rupert Murdoch ‐ and others compared his claims with their own knowledge of the Trump White House.

ISIS captures more ground from Al-Qaeda in northeast Hama
[ALMASDARNEWS] The war of the jihadists continued in the northeastern countryside of Hama, Friday, as the so-called Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS) seized more territory from the al-Qaeda linked Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham
forces.

According to pro-opposition activists, ISIS managed to capture the town of Huwaysis ibn Hadib after a short battle with Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham on Friday.

In addition to capturing Huwaysis ibn Hadib, ISIS now controls the towns of Rasm al-Hamam, al-Wabid al-Qebli, Mwalah Abu Hadib, Abu Ajwa, Anbaz, Mwalih Swarna Abu Haya, Rasm al-Ahmar, Abu Hilal, Abu Hariq, Abu al-Kusor, Ma’asran, al-Athshan, Abyan
...a governorate of Yemen. The region was a base to the Aden-Abyan Islamic Army terrorist group until it dropped the name and joined al-Qaeda. Its capital is Zinjibar. In March 2011, al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula declared the governate an Islamic Emirate after seizing control of the region. The New York Times fastidiously reported that those in control, while Islamic hard boyz, are not in fact al-Qaeda, but something else that looks, tastes, smells, and acts the same. Yemeni government forces launched an effort to re-establish control of the region when President-for-Life Saleh was tossed and the carnage continues...
, Jub Zariq, al-Shiha, Surouj, Alia, Abu Maru, Abu al-Khanadeq, al-Wastiya, Samiriya, Rasm al-Skaf, Janat al-Swarna, Twal al-Dabagheen, Jadida, and Talhan.

ISIS and Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham have been at war in northeastern Hama since November, when the former launched a massive operation to build a presence around the Idlib axis.

NFL Redskins heiress: 'Hurry up, Jew'
[NY Post] The millionaire socialite accused of hurling anti-Semitic slurs at a Manhattan restaurant patron on New Year’s Eve before bashing him in the head with her mirrored designer clutch was in a Manhattan courtroom Thursday ‐ and her lawyer was a public defender.
She swings a mean glass purse.
Jacqueline Kent Cooke was represented by a taxpayer-funded lawyer ‐ despite being the daughter of late multimillionaire and Washington Redskins owner Jack Kent Cooke ‐ who said in court that she was simply misheard and that the bloodied victim is to blame for her broken finger.
Please don't snap the pic until the blood reaches the collar of my Ravis.
Matthew Haberkorn suddenly started screaming at her in the coat check line inside Caravaggio on the Upper East Side, the lawyer claimed.

"My client never made the slur that she was accused of making," Rebecca Phipps, a lawyer with New York County Defenders, told the court. "This is a simple misunderstanding where a statement was misheard at a busy restaurant. That statement was never made."

Prosecutors allege the 29-year-old spat, "Hurry up, Jew," at Haberkorn’s mother as she waited to retrieve her coat, and then twice bashed Haberkorn in the head with her Lulu Guinness Women Chloe Mirror Perspex Clutch outside the eatery, leaving him bloodied.
Jacqueline Kent Cooke just became attorney Matt Haberkorn's 7 digit 401K.
The usual from Heavy.com, including a photo of the lady in question carrying the clutch in question. Not something I would bother to spend money on, but tastes differ:

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Author of False ‘Trump Dossier’ Refererred To DOJ For Criminal Activity
[DCWHISPERS] Ah, another remarkable and far more important bit of news that the Establishment Media is ignoring in favor of 24/7 anti-Trump bashing.

Remington Christopher Steele, the primary author of the infamous "Trump Dossier" which was used as justification by the Obama White House to initiate illegal surveillance on the Trump campaign and which has direct ties to high-ranking officials from both political parties (including, but not limited to, the Obama White House) and the Deep State, has just been referred to the Department of Justice for a potential criminal violation:

The GOP's very strange letter calling for an investigation of Christopher Steele

[WAPO] A pair of GOP senators sent a letter to the Justice Department on Friday urging an investigation into Christopher Steele, the intelligence agent behind that famous dossier from the Russia investigation.

And the whole thing is rather strange.

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Charles E. Grassley (R-Iowa) and Sen. Lindsey O. Graham (R-S.C.) sent the letter to the DOJ and FBI. In it, the pair says they have reason to believe Steele might have lied about disseminating information from the dossier.

But while they make the allegation publicly in the letter, the details of Steele's potential lying are contained within an attached document marked classified. In other words, they are suggesting Steele may have lied, but don't say what he might have lied about.

And indeed, it would be impossible for them to do so, given their accusation is apparently based upon his interviews with the FBI, which were recently shared with the Judiciary Committee and aren't public. But the point here is that they made the allegation of Steele's lying public.

As Devlin Barrett and Tom Hamburger note in their piece, that rubs some legal experts the wrong way. One former federal prosecutor, Peter Zeidenberg, called it "nonsense." He suggested it was a political effort intended to impact the Russia investigation ‐ in which Steele's dossier has become the focus of GOP allegations of improper conduct by federal law enforcement ‐ rather than a serious letter. He said that he had never heard of such a letter being released.

MINIX: Intel's hidden in-chip operating system
[ZDnet] Buried deep inside your computer's Intel chip is the MINIX operating system and a software stack, which includes networking and a web server. It's slow, hard to get at, and insecure as insecure can be.

Maybe you're not paranoid. Maybe they are out to get you. Ronald Minnich, a Google software engineer, who discovered a hidden MINIX operating system inside "kind of a billion machines" using Intel processors, might agree with this.

Why? Let's start with what. Matthew Garrett, the well-known Linux and security developer who works for Google, explained recently that, "Intel chipsets for some years have included a Management Engine [ME], a small microprocessor that runs independently of the main CPU and operating system. Various pieces of software run on the ME, ranging from code to handle media DRM to an implementation of a TPM. AMT [Active Management Technology] is another piece of software running on the ME."
