Terror Networks
British jihadi Sally Jones killed by US drone strike fleeing ISIS hell
[TheSun] US spy chiefs told their British counterparts that jihadi Jones, who fled the UK to be an ISIS recruiter, died in June.

The US Air Force Predator strike is said to have taken place close to the border between Syria and Iraq.

A Whitehall source today confirmed Jones's death after she left her home in Chatham, Kent, with her 12-year-old son JoJo in 2013 to join ISIS in Syria.

The source said: "The Americans zapped her trying to get away from Raqqa. Quite frankly, it’s good riddance."

CIA chiefs told their UK counterparts that a Predator killed 50-year-old Jones in June.

But news of the success has been kept quiet on both sides of the Atlantic amid fears Jojo may also have died.

Reports say Jones was last been seen alive fleeing the carnage in Raqqa and heading toward the Syrian border town of Mayadin.

Jones regularly used her son as a human shield.

There is nothin' safe in this world

Little Jojo Jones took to the air for ISIS,
And no bearded iris was he.
He was mighty proud when holy war was declared;
He wasn't scared,

And this he was intoning
On the road to mummy's droning:

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Alec Baldwin has drink-throwing meltdown on NYC street
[NY Post] Explosive actor Alec Baldwin had another epic meltdown on the streets of New York this week.
Bad things also happen to good people.
A fellow pedestrian at University Place and 11th Street tells us that the "30 Rock" star was seen in a verbal exchange with a presumably reckless motorist that included insults and soft-drink throwing.

"Baldwin called the driver of a big black SUV ’a meatball’ and kept asking him and the passenger to get out," said the witness, who noticed the incident after it had already begun.
Perhaps there's an extra cot, wherever Harvey Weinstein is now staying.

High-Ranking Dem Sens Gave Campaign Cash to Menendez After Indictment
[Free Beacon] A number of high-ranking Democratic senators combined to contribute tens of thousands of dollars to Sen. Robert Menendez's (D., N.J.) campaign committee this year, a review of Federal Election Commission records shows.

Menendez, who was indicted in April 2015, is currently facing 12 counts of corruption charges that include bribery. Prosecutors have said that the senator had a "corrupt pact" with Salomon Melgen, a wealthy Florida eye doctor, a previous donor to Menendez's campaign.

Menendez himself has contributed to the campaigns of a number of top Democratic senators this year from his leadership PAC, the New Millennium PAC, the Washington Free Beacon previously reported.

Civil war in Yemen has allowed ISIS to establish itself in the country

ISIS have found a new way of showcasing their troops' 'fighting spirit' - by lining them up in front of a camera and kicking them in the genitals.

Pictures from a propaganda video shot at an ISIS training camp in Yemen, purports to show the baffling exercise being part of the hardening of new recruits.

A handful of terrorists-in-training can be seen standing with their legs apart while an ISIS instructor kicks them in the groin with force.

t is believed that this has been done to show the ability of ISIS terrorists to endure pain.
They might want to rethink this...Nahhhh, let's keep this to ourself.
However, as this is a single image, there is no evidence to show that this practice did not cause serious harm or pain to the recruits.

Other stills from the video show recruits carrying out target practice, assault courses and doing pull-ups.

The images were allegedly shot at the Sheikh Abu Muhammad Al-Adnani training camp in Yemen, where ISIS began to establish itself in 2014.

The war in Yemen began the same year, when ousted former president Ali Abdullah Saleh and his supporters joined forces with the Shiite Huthi rebels, who are backed by Iran.
Moar please!

Mattis: Pentagon Reviewing Africa Patrol Rules
[Free Beacon] TAMPA, Fla.‐Defense Secretary Jim Mattis said Wednesday that the Pentagon will review procedures used by patrolling special operations commandos in the aftermath of a deadly ambush in the African nation of Niger.

Four U.S. Army Green Berets were killed and two wounded in the Oct. 4 attack by suspected Islamist State terrorists in the southwestern part of the country.

"A patrol that is an area where the enemy has not operated before was ambushed and hit hard," Mattis told reporters traveling with him to Tampa. "And within 30 minutes the French airplanes were overhead."

Mattis said the French aircraft were "fast movers with bombs on them ready to help." Additionally, helicopters also were used to support the commandos.

Doesn't everybody record things to watch when it's convenient, nowadays? Most of the shows I like on PBS, for instance, are on the air between 1:00 a.m. and 4:00 a.m. on weeknights. And for other things, it's just easier to record against the possibility that we'll be busy - even if we aren't, if we start watching twenty minutes after it begins, we can fast forward through the commercials.

The suspect, a resident of the West Bank city of Tulkarem, was arrested in the southern Bedouin city of Rahat in a joint operation by the Border Police’s undercover unit, the Israel Police and the Shin Bet security agency.

Police said the man pulled a knife on the officers during the arrest, but was overpowered.

He was taken in for questioning.

Police did not immediately provide any details on the Paleostinian man’s alleged plans, or his identity.

Europe
Turkish man convicted of spying in Germany for Turkish intelligence
[Hurriyet Daily News] A 32-year-old Turkish man has been convicted of spying in Germany for the Turkish National Intelligence Organization (MİT) on Kurdish political activities.

The dpa news agency reported on Oct. 10 that Mehmet Fatih S., whose last name wasn’t given in line with privacy laws, was sentenced in Hamburg state court to two years’ probation for spying for MİT.

The court said his activities included spying on Yüksel Koç, a co-chair of the European Kurdish Democratic Societies Congress (KCDK-E), described by German domestic intelligence as being the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party’s (PKK) Europe branch.

Mehmet Fatih S., who was arrested in December in Hamburg, will have to pay court costs and a fine of 20,950 euros ($24,720) - the amount he received for his spying.

The suspect has not reportedly made a confession over the charges, but various messages on his mobile were considered as evidence.

TV report: Islamic State chiefs gather near Israel border, set up training camp
[IsraelTimes] Having fled Iraq and northern Syria, several top commanders of terror group now in Golan Heights enclave, recruiting and running propaganda effort, says Israel's Channel 2

Several senior commanders from Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
who recently fled from Iraq and northern Syria are now based in southern Syria, just across the Golan Heights border with Israel, and are training hundreds of new recruits there, an Israeli television report said.

Israel’s Channel 2 said the commanders have made their way to an Islamic State-controlled enclave "close to the border" with Israel. They have set up a training camp to which they have recruited 300 local youths, said the report, which showed footage apparently of the camp and training sessions.

Among the commanders is one of Islamic State’s most notorious recruiters, Abu Hamam Jazrawi, the TV report said.

The commanders are also now running Islamic State internet propaganda campaigns from their new base, in place of the former campaign headquarters in Raqqa, the Death Eaters’ former de facto capital in northwest Syria where the fight to oust them has entered what appear to be its final stages.

The Israeli government has vowed to prevent IS from setting up operations close to the Israeli border. Israel "won’t allow Islamic State figures or other enemy actors, under the cover of the war in Syria, to set up next to our borders," Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said last November, soon after what was believed to be the first notable clash between IS button men and Israeli troops.

The incident involved a short exchange of gunfire between an Islamic State-affiliated terrorist group and Israeli soldiers, and ended with an IDF Arclight airstrike that killed four murderous Moslems.

Both the IS-affiliated Khalid ibn al-Walid Army and the Jabhat Fateh al-Sham
...formerly al-Nusra, the current false nose and mustache of al-Qaeda in the Levant...
, formerly the al-Nusra
...formally Jabhat an-Nusrah li-Ahli al-Sham (Support Front for the People of the Levant), also known as al-Qaeda in the Levant. They aim to establish a pan-Arab caliphate. Not the same one as the Islamic State, though .. ...
Front, which is linked to al-Qaeda, have been set up on Israel’s borders for years.

Despite a relatively long-lasting "live and let live" relationship with these groups, the IDF has warned of a potential ‐ some say inevitable ‐ conflict with them and has been preparing to respond to cross-border attacks.

What next after Raila Odinga quit presidential vote?
[Al Jazeera] Kenya's electoral commission, the president and the opposition remain deadlocked on how to proceed with the presidential election rerun after opposition leader Raila Odinga withdrew from the race.

The electoral body said it was reviewing Odinga's withdrawal from the race, while President Uhuru Kenyatta said the October 26 vote would proceed even if he remains the sole contender.

Odinga said on Tuesday he would boycott the polls because opposition demands for electoral body reform have not been met.

"All indications are that the election scheduled for October 26 will be worse than the previous one," Odinga told a press conference in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi, on Tuesday.

New intelligence report reveals plot of IRGC mercenaries in Syria
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] A report by the Gay Paree-based Iranian opposition has revealed that Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards are amassing Afghan, Iraqi, Lebanese and Pak mercenaries in Syria to control a pivotal road between Iraq and Syria that reaches the eastern coast of the Mediterranean.

The report published on Wednesday by the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) comes as the United States is reviewing the inclusion of the IRGC and associated militias on the US terrorism list.

The IRGC has been deploying its militias in Syria at numbers estimated to be more than 100,000 members. The imported muscle are deployed as mercenaries in clear violation of international norms and laws, the report stated.

Afghan militia flights
The report shows that the IRGC conducts weekly flights from Tehran via Mahan Air and Iran Air to Damascus to transport roughly 2,000 Afghan mercenaries every Tuesday.

The men are registered as volunteers and are recruited from among Afghan refugees in exchange for money and grants.

The report also states that the fighters are presented with identification cards upon their arrival in Damascus and then transferred to the Shibani camp west of the capital to receive their assignments.

Furthermore, mercenaries who have not received training in Iran undergo a training course in this camp.

Iraqi brigades in Deir el-Zor
The report shows that an Iraqi group in Syria, called the Imam Ali Brigades, underwent a training course for several months at a secret IRGC center on the outskirts of Tehran. "Part of the forces of this group are in the Deir el-Zor area, and their commander is Muhammad al-Bawi called Abu Abed" the report stated.

According to the NCRI in the past months, the IRGC has focused its forces on occupying the ground route between Iraq and Syria. "To this end, the commanders of the Revolutionary Guards have control over the command of the militias on both sides of the border, they want to gain control over about 400 kilometers of that border strip," the report read.

Ground operations
Ground operations command in Syria is controlled by the IRGC according to the Intel report which added that the country has been divided into several operational fronts.

Each front has a command post, details of which were disclosed by the Iranian Resistance in July 2016. Javad Qorbani, an IRGC commander, in an interview with the state-run Jam-e-Jam newspaper on January 21, 2017, revealed the existence of three garrisons in Syria, including the garrisons of Roqiyah in Aleppo (northern front), the Nabi between Aleppo and Damascus (central front) and Zeinab towards Deraa (southern front).

Javad Qorbani, a commander of Zeinab garrison, said: "At this garrison, we are fighting at 29 points at the same time, meaning we have 29 front lines" the report stated.

Triple suicide attack near Damascus police HQ: Ministry

Two of the suicide bombers detonated their explosives in front of the police headquarters on Khaled Bin al-Walid street in central Damascus, the interior ministry said in a statement carried by state media.

"The terrorist suicide kaboomers tried to storm the police command headquarters... The guards opened fire on them, forcing them to blow themselves up before they entered the building and achieved their goals," it added.

Police surrounded a third attacker behind the building who also went kaboom!, the statement said.
The interior ministry said one person had been killed and six injured in the attack.

Iraq ratchets up pressure on Kurdistan after independence vote
[DW] Iraq's central government has increased legal and economic pressure on Kurdistan following an independence vote. The Kurds now find themselves pinned in on all sides.

An Iraqi court on Wednesday issued arrest warrants for members of the Kurdish election commission that organized an independence referendum last month.

The court decision was made on the request of the National Security Council headed by Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi after the Kurds went ahead with the referendum despite the constitutional court ruling it illegal.

The nonbinding referendum held on September 25 passed with more than 90 percent support among Kurds, who govern an autonomous region in northern Iraq.

It is unclear if the Iraqi central government will be able to act on the arrest warrants since the Kurdish region has its own security forces.

The move is the latest salvo from Baghdad as it tightens its grip on the Kurdistan region.

Iraq has already banned international flights to and from Iraqi Kurdistan.

Iraq targets oil, trade
Baghdad has also requested The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
and Iran, both major trading partners of the Kurdish region who opposed the referendum, to close their borders and allow oil exports only through the central government.

Fearing Kurdish separatism within their own borders, Turkey and Iran have threatened to close their borders and have coordinated with Baghdad.

Such a move would hit the finances of the Kurdish region, which relies on the border trade and oil exports independent of the central government.

On Monday, the central government ordered Iraq's two largest cell-phone operators based in the Kurdish region to move their headquarters to Baghdad.

On Tuesday, Iraq's oil minister announced the country would resume exports of 400,000 barrels of oil through the central government-owned Kirkuk-Ceyhan pipeline, which runs from the oil-rich city through Kurdish territory and onto the Ottoman Turkish port of Ceyhan.

The aging pipeline is in disrepair and was shut after the "Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
" overran large swaths of Iraq before an offensive pushed the terror outfit back.

In announcing the intent to resume oil exports through Kirkuk-Ceyhan pipeline, the National Security Council also said it would identify "corrupt" Kurdish officials and recover lost funds.

The central government and Kurdish region have a long-running dispute over oil exports, extraction and sharing oil revenues.

The oil-rich, multi-ethnic city of Kirkuk is at the center of territorial disputes between Baghdad and the Kurdish region.

Iraqi officials have warned a unilateral Kurdish power grab in the city could ignite a civil war.

murderous Moslems have indicated willingness to surrender to the Corps in the state.

The Commandant of the corps in the state, Ibrahim Abdullahi, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Wednesday in Maiduguri.

Mr. Abdullahi said that the murderous Moslems had indicated their intention to renounce membership of the terrorist group but through an intermediary.

He said that negotiations between the command and the murderous Moslems were conducted through a firewood vendor.

He also said that six murderous Moslems had earlier surrendered to the Corps in the last one month in the state.

The commandant stated that the holy warriors surrendered voluntarily under the Federal Government’s Safe Corridor Initiative (SCI).

"About 40 of the murderous Moslems have come forward to surrender. They indicated that many of them are willing to lay down their arms," Abdullahi said.

Houthis take over second largest Saleh camp in Sanaa
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET]
Various Yemeni sources confirmed on Tuesday that the Houthis have taken full control of the Dabwa camp, the second-largest Republican Guard camp in Sanaa, and imposed a new Houthi leader replacing former commander Brigadier General Ali Mohamed al-Masoudi who was kidnapped a month ago.

Yemeni news websites quoted sources in the Republican Guard as saying that al-Houthi militia have given dozens of officers and military personnel at the camp an open leave a month ago, before imposing a fellow Houthi leader on the camp.

In fact, reports claims that several officers told Saleh of the Houthis' plan to control the camp, but he ignored the Intel and did not take any course of action or give them orders, forcing them to surrender to the Houthis and their new leadership at Camp Dabwa.

The Dabwa camp south of Sana'a is within the geographical range of Sanhan (the birthplace of the Saleh), which is the area that housed the Central Command of the Republican Guard and three military brigades.

Saleh still has one remaining camp in the area, Rima Hameed, his last stronghold and a group of the Republican Guard. In addition to the Special Forces camp led by his nephew and the responsible for his personal security, Brigadier General Tariq Saleh.

Houthi militias sought to disable the military and political “claws” of Saleh and intimidated his supporters with arrests, according to local observers.

Flake challenger raises nearly $700k in third quarter of 2017
[THEHILL] Former state Sen. Kelli Ward (R) raised $690,000 in the third quarter of 2017, nearly doubling the amount she had raised in the first six months of the year for a primary challenge against incumbent Sen. Jeff Flake
...Republican junior senator from Arizona, elected in 2012. Prior to that he was a U.S. Representative for twelve years...
(R) in Arizona.

Ward has raised $1.047 million so far in 2017. Her cash reserves bounced from $83,000 at the end of the second quarter to over $250,000 presently.

"Dr. Ward’s campaign to retire Senator Jeff Flake is gaining incredible momentum," said Brent Lowder, chief strategist for the campaign.

"Her broad fundraising base will continue to expand in the months ahead, while Senator Flake’s donor base is limited and will eventually max out. Large campaigns in recent election cycles have shown that the candidate who can build a broad fundraising base holds the strongest position over time," he continued. "We are exactly where we want to be at this early stage of the campaign. Senator Flake and his supporters should be very worried about this trend."

The News Agency that Dare Not be Named reported earlier this week that Flake raised $1.1 million in the third quarter and has $3.4 million in cash-on-hand.

Sen. Marco Rubio
The diminutive 13-year-old Republican U.S. Senator from Florida...
(R-Fla.) was in Arizona this week hosting a fundraiser for Flake, who has also benefitted from ads from the Senate Leadership Fund, an outside group run by allies of Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.).

Ward, meanwhile, will get fundraising help from conservative radio host Laura Ingraham next week at the Hilton Scottsdale Resort.

In an interview on the state’s official news channel, he said: "No matter how many thousands of them are gathered, 10 thousand or 200 thousand, a bomb filled with poisonous gas would eradicate all these tribes."

"Deadly weapons such as long-range missiles and chemical weapons can be used in such a situation," he said.

Several members of Qatari tribes, such as al-Murrah and Sham al-Hawajer, have had their citizenship revoked in recent weeks following their opposition to Doha’s policies.

Supreme Court Tosses Case Against Trump’s ‘Travel Ban’
[BREITBART] The U.S. Supreme Court dismissed a case against President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
’s controversial executive order restricting travel and immigration from several terror-prone states on Tuesday.

The reason: the president issued a new version of the order last month that replaces the older version that had been the subject of litigation in the Fourth Circuit, rendering the case moot.

Though many lower federal courts in liberal circuits ruled against the executive order, the Trump administration was set for victory in June, when the Supreme Court lifted an injunction against the enforcement of the so-called "travel ban," leaving the case to be argued in the fall. As Breitbart News noted at the time (original link):

Monday’s decision by the U.S. Supreme Court to lift the injunction against most of President Donald Trump’s "travel ban" is a major victory ‐ and not just because he will be able to implement the policy, but because the case is only scheduled to be heard in the fall, i.e. in October at the earliest.

Because most of the controversial provisions of the executive order only last 90 days, Trump it could be fully implemented before the Court hears the case.

The Court is prevented from hearing disputes that are already moot. There must be an active case or controversy in order for challenges to the executive order to be heard.

Nigeria's government is trying to show it is making progress against the group that has killed more than 20,000 people during its eight-year insurgency, but lawyers and rights groups are expressing concern about whether the suspects will have fair trials.

The proceedings began Monday at the Wawa Military Cantonment. In Nigeria, such trials are often held behind closed doors to prevent sensitive security issues from being made public.

But the government may have other security concerns, Sylvester Odion-Akhaine, an associate professor of political science at Lagos State University, told The News Agency that Dare Not be Named.

"The government seems to have chosen a military facility to prevent an attack by Boko Haram," he said. The bully boyz in the past have attacked military barracks and prisons in efforts to free detained fighters.

14 ISIS Bad guys die in Iraqi airstrikes near Qaim

Qaim (IraqiNews.com) Iraqi fighter jets killed 14 Islamic State militants in western Anbar of Wednesday as military operations approach to clear the group’s last two holdouts in Iraq.

A source within the army’s 7th division told Alsumaria News that 14 IS members were killed in an air raid that targeted a booby-trapping workshop run by the militants at al-Obaidi, in the town of al-Qaim.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Defense Ministry’s War Media Cell published a map marking the western Anbar towns of Qaim and Rawa with black, compared to the rest of country regions, denoting that they remain under Islamic State control.

“Bear with us. Soon, God willing, we will remove the black stain,” read a line on the map.

7 die in suicide attack in Hit

Anbar (IraqiNews.com) At least seven persons were killed, while fifteen others were injured in a suicide attack in west of Anbar, the Interior Ministry reported.

Brig. Gen. Saad Maan, the ministry’s spokesperson, said in a statement on Wednesday, “an attack carried out by a suicide bomber wearing a suicide belt in a coffeeshop in al-Dawarah region, Hit City, left seven killed and fifteen wounded.”

According to news reports, security services imposed curfew starting today until further notice.

Earlier on the day, eight members of the same family were killed and wounded when Islamic State members hurled grenades at the homes of two brothers and members of the Popular Mobilization Forces in Saridiya and Kassara, west of Hit.

Violence in the country has surged further with the emergence of Islamic State Sunni extremist militants who proclaimed an “Islamic Caliphate” in Iraq and Syria in 2014.

A monthly count by the United Nations Assistance Mission in Iraq (UNAMI), which excludes security members deaths, said 196 civilians were killed, while 381 others were wounded due to violence and armed conflicts during the month of September. The fatalities included 10 foreign nationals. Baghdad was the most affected province with 37 deaths and 157 injuries. Dhi Qar province came in the second place with 82 killed and 93 injured. Anbar came in the third place with 20 killed and 46 injured.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Trump Is Inching Toward War With Iran's Revolutionary Guards
[Foreign Policy] Decertifying the nuclear deal isn't the most dangerous decision about Iran the president will soon make.

President Trump is about to make the most destructive foreign-policy move by a U.S. administration since the invasion of Iraq in 2003.

It is not simply that Trump reportedly plans this week to decertify Iran’s compliance with the nuclear deal, also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), despite the fact that every other signatory country, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), and even Israel’s intelligence agency agree that the deal is being implemented properly by Iran. No, seemingly embarrassed by his inability to just "tear up" the "worst deal ever negotiated," Trump is about to do the thing uberhawks have demanded for years: designating Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a foreign terrorist organization and putting it on the same level as al Qaeda and the Islamic State.

Far more than decertifying the Iran deal, the designation of the IRGC would massively and unnecessarily complicate the fraught U.S. relationship with Iran. The certification requirement was imposed by Congress ‐ it is not a part of the JCPOA, and Iran’s foreign minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif, has even acknowledged that it would not necessarily mean U.S. withdrawal from the deal. Designating the IRGC as a terrorist organization, however, would have immediate and potentially disastrous effects that could reverberate across the Middle East. It is, after all, a branch of the armed forces of a U.N.-member nation and one that has shown little hesitancy to strike back at whoever threatens it or the Islamic Republic.

India’s top court rules sex with an underage wife is rape
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] India’s top court on Wednesday ruled that a man is committing rape if he engages in sexual intercourse with his wife who is aged between 15 and 18, a landmark decision that will affect millions of child brides.

The legal age of consent is 18 years. The law regards even consensual sex with a woman under 16 as rape, but an exception had been made for intercourse between a man and his wife who is between 15 and 18.

Marital rape is not a crime in India, where the government has said criminalizing marital rape could destabilize marriages and make men vulnerable to harassment by their wives.

The Supreme Court ruled the age of consent was 18 for "all purposes" after hearing a petition by Independent Thought, a non-profit group that sought to criminalize sex with underage wives.

"Sexual intercourse by a married man with their minor wife below 18 years is rape," the court said in its judgment, which was welcomed by women’s rights campaigners.

Gunman was shooting at hotel guard + worker in hallway several minutes before attack on festival
[CBSNews] A maintenance worker ... told hotel dispatchers to call police and report a gunman had opened fire with a rifle inside the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino hotel before the shooter began firing from his high-rise suite into a crowd at a nearby musical performance. ...

Worker Stephen Schuck says he was checking out a report of a jammed fire door on the 32nd floor of Mandalay Bay when he heard gunshots and a hotel security guard, who had been shot in the leg, peeked out from an alcove and told him to take cover.

"As soon as I started to go to a door to my left the rounds started coming down the hallway," Schuck said. "I could feel them pass right behind my head.

"It was kind of relentless so I called over the radio what was going on," he said. "As soon as the shooting stopped we made our way down the hallway and took cover again and then the shooting started again."

Las Vegas massacre gunman had a NORMAL brain: Autopsy finds 'no abnormalites' that could have driven him to kill 58 innocent people

[DailyMail] The Las Vegas sheriff leading the investigation into America's worst mass shooting has said 'we may never know' what motivated Stephen Paddock to kill 58 people.

Joe Lombardo said and exam of Paddock's brain has revealed 'no abnormalities' while girlfriend Marilou Danley had 'no concerns' over his mental health.

Detectives have contacted every branch of Paddock's family tree, including both his ex-wives, but have no uncovered anything that would explain his murderous actions.

'All those things that you would expect to find, we have not found,' Lombardo said in an interview with the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

Lombardo was able to shed more light on Paddock's time in Las Vegas before he began his massacre on Sunday, October 1.

Paddock had arrived in the city three days earlier than originally thought, but stayed in a different room that was provided free of charge by the hotel.

When he moved to the corner suite from which he carried out the massacre, the hotel began charging him for the stay.

Police initially only counted charged days, hence the confusion, Lombardo said.

Lombardo said his team had reviewed hours of CCTV footage, and were not aware of any evidence to suggest he went into the desert to practice shooting in the days before the massacre, or that he hired a prostitute, as has been reported.

A bellboy did help Paddock move several bags up to his room, Lombardo revealed, adding that the killer traveled back and forth to his hometown of Mesquite several times before the massacre.

You are dead on. I bought into the 10 minute response narrative early on in the reporting and I was stunned to learn that it was 70 minutes or longer before they made entry. To be fair maybe he killed himself after 10 minutes and it was all quiet when they finally got up there...who knows...but, it does feel a lot like Columbine.

#10  The blocked stairwell door is hugely significant to me, has anyone been able to determine the precise way it was blocked? Either to prevent the anticipated LE response from avoiding the long hallway killzone, or the prevent the pursuit of those that were with him initially. The method and details would answer that question. That the were emphatic that he had an escape plan makes we wonder how he planned to bail. Surely if there were hallway and stairwell cameras we would have seen footage by now, unless the FBI wants to suppress what was captured on tape....

Had firing re-started, they would have rushed in.

things sound kind of out of whack. I do have a problem with no being able to get a close to correct timeline 10 days after the fact, but that is one hell of a crime scene to process.

When the FBI and BATF give brief, it will give a better picture.

Filipino troops find 22 bodies of suspected militants, bombs
[Ynet] Philippine troops have recovered 22 bodies of suspected Moslem forces of Evil and dozens of homemade bombs from two buildings that were retaken in one of the final government assaults to end an Islamic State

The discovery of the bodies brought the corpse count in the siege, which was launched May 23, to more than a thousand people, including 802 myrmidons. The fighting has left 160 soldiers and coppers and 47 civilians dead, according to the military.

Maj. Gen. Restituto Padilla said troops overcame days of myrmidon sniper and grenade fire before they took back control of the buildings Tuesday and found the bodies, along with eight rifles and "dozens and dozens of improvised bombs."

Scott Adams: How Many Lives Did Gun Control Laws Save in Las Vegas? (Answer: Probably Lots)
Posted by: newc || 10/12/2017 00:00 || Comments || Link || E-Mail|| [6 views] Top|| File under:

#1  The author's logic escapes me. The shooter's firearms purchases appear to be in full compliance with existing gun laws.

For his purposes and time available, the completely legal "bump stock" worked perfectly and saved the shooter a great deal of urgently needed travel money.
Posted by: Besoeker || 10/12/2017 5:57 Comments || Top||

#2  His logic is that Paddock chose to comply with the law and it's challenging path to full-auto ownership and go with the quasi-auto bump stock route, which may well have restricted is effectiveness at killing, due to the propensity for such arrangements to jam. It would be interesting to know how many of the guns he had in the room were jammed and difficult to clear quickly - perhaps he had so many because he knew that would be a problem for him.
Posted by: Glenmore || 10/12/2017 9:36 Comments || Top||

#3  Paddock used a "pray and spray approach." The technique is inaccurate. Moreover, from my understanding, the "bump stock" add-on makes the firearm more prone to jamming. I'd think that a skilled and practiced shooter with a semi-automatic rifle could do a great deal of damage to the crowd below the Mandalay--maybe more so than with bump stock weapons. I doubt that more gun control laws would have helped or prevented such an incident. Gun-control politicians tend to have knee-jerk reactions to such shootings and want to immediately enact more gun-control laws while knowing little about firearms or the impact of their legislation as it opens the door to confiscation; that is the ultimate aim of the gun-grabbers. I tend to oppose such legislation because it is like allowing the nose of the camel under the tent. Once these feckless laws are enacted, it opens the door to enacting more feckless laws. These laws prevent little crime and just tend to tick off law-abiding citizens. The people who engage in such mass shootings are criminals and they have little regard for gun laws; they would obtain guns in an illegal manner. Look at Chicago, for example. How many guns used in shootings and homicides are legally obtained? Annually, one third of all U.S. gun-related homicides are committed in Obama's hometown of Chicago.
Posted by: JohnQC || 10/12/2017 11:56 Comments || Top||

#4  With all Paddock's money and planning combined with his criminal nature, it seems to me he could easily have secured several illegal automatic weapons had he been a little more patient.
Posted by: Anguper Hupomosing9418 || 10/12/2017 14:46 Comments || Top||

#5  I haven't seen or heard any convincing evidence that a bump fire stock was used. The video of the event has the shots going off far to regularly. Only a full auto could achieve that regular firing rate. Bump stocks are a fun way to empty a mag, and that's about it.

In a better world, the discussion we'd be having is whether or not Congress even has the authority to ban bump stocks -- with the obvious answer being 'no.'

#7  The rate of fire in the videos is not indicative of Automatic weapon firing consistency. Rate of fire slows and speeds depending on the shooters ability to hold it in place in the shoulder.
Posted by: newc || 10/12/2017 17:13 Comments || Top||

#8  Gun control enacted by Mandalay prevented the security guard who was shot by Paddock from having a weapon. If armed and trained in gun use he could have engaged Paddock long enough for more armed security and then police to prevent any where near the fatalities incured at the festival below. This was the firefight he expected but never materialized due to extreme gun control imposed on hotel premises including security personel. Therefore he turned on the festival before taking his own life instead of suicide by cop.

Liberia counts votes in historic election
[Al Jazeera] Across Liberia votes are being counted to determine the country's next president and legislators.

Polls closed at 6pm local time (18:00 GMT) on Tuesday and a provincial declaration is expected within the next 24 hours.

However, the electoral body has until October 25 to declare a winner or announce a runoff for the presidency.

A runoff seems likely as unofficial reports from the Liberia Broadcasting System suggest ex-footballer George Weah and current Vice President Joseph Boakai are leading.

A candidate must get at least 50 percent of the vote to be declared the winner. The peaceful vote will see the west African country's first democratic transition of power in more than 70 years.

Should there be a runoff, the winner is slated to be announced on November 8.

Al Jazeera's Ahmed Idris, reporting from the capital Monrovia, said Liberians were "enthusiastic and passionate" about the elections.

"They want to see a new government that can address the critical issues in their lives: funding infrastructure, like roads, health care, education, and building upon the relative peace in Liberia over the last 12 years."

Twenty candidates are running to replace incumbent president Ellen Johnson Sirleaf who was held the role for 12 years, the maximum amount of time allowed by the country's constitution.

Johnson Sirleaf was the first elected head of state in Africa.
A nonsense statement. Liberia's first elected president was Joseph Jenkins Roberts, in January 1848. President Johnson Sirleaf was the first president elected after the civil war set off by the the military coup of Sgt. Samuel Doe that resulted in the death of elected president William R. Tolbert. Doe was tortured to death by Prince Johnson, who then had to fight over the spoils with Chuck Taylor. Perhaps the writer meant that Sirleaf was the first female elected head of state in Africa. I can't think of another one, but that might only be because I'm too lazy to look it up.
In 2011, she was a joint recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize for her "non-violent struggle for the safety of women and for women's rights to full participation in peacebuilding work," following Liberia's bloody 14-year civil war, which came to an end in 2003.

Speaking on Monday, she urged Liberians to "vote for the person and persons you believe will make Liberia a better place. The world will be watching. Let's make them proud."

About 2.2 million Liberians registered to vote, slightly less than half of the country's population.

Arabia
Yemeni members of political party arrested
[ArabNews] ADEN: Security forces in the southern Yemeni city of Aden arrested 10 members of a radical partner in the internationally recognized government, the Islah party said on Wednesday.

Aden is dominated by local forces backed by the UAE, a key member of the Saudi-led coalition that intervened in Yemen’s civil war in 2015 to restore President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi to power but is hostile toward hard-liners.

The arrests could raise tension within the coalition fighting the Iran-aligned Houthi movement and forces loyal to deposed President Ali Abdullah Saleh who seized much of northern Yemen, including the capital Sanaa.

Islah said security forces raided the home of its No. 2 man in Aden, Mohammed Abdel-Malek, and arrested him, along with a member of the party’s local Shoura Council as well as a local militia commander.

Security forces also closed down the party’s office in Al-Qaloua district of Aden, Islah said in a statement.

A security source in Aden confirmed four people were arrested and said the move was related to the assassination of a Salafi imam in Aden on Tuesday by a bomb planted in his car.

While both in the radical camp, Salafis and Islah are at odds as some of the former back a secession of south Yemen while the latter wants the Arabian Peninsula state to remain intact.

It was unclear if the arrested Islah members had been formally charged.

“(Islah) directs a call to public opinion, the government and the coalition demanding they shoulder their responsibility to swiftly release brother Abdel-Malek and his colleagues and to stop these arbitrary measures,” Islah’s statement said.

With thousands of fighters deployed on battlefronts against the Houthis, Islah has been an important ally of Hadi and the Saudi-led coalition trying to reinstate his government.

But Islah, seen as linked with the Muslim Brotherhood, has come under pressure since a rift erupted between Qatar and the Anti-Terror Quartet — comprising the UAE, Bahrain, Egypt and Saudi Arabia — in June over allegations Qatar backs radical militants. Qatar denies this.

Since the coalition intervened in Yemen, Islah has tried to distance itself from the Brotherhood in an effort to ease Gulf rulers’ anxiety about its radical ideology.

The Brotherhood denies accusations from conservative Arab governments of involvement in terrorism, saying it seeks change only by peaceful means.
And so they do, because peaceful means disturb current rulers less than violence while the Moslem Brotherhood is gaining control. On the other hand, they have no objection to violence when peaceful means are stymied.

Democratic Mega-Donor Demands Democrats Pledge to Impeach Trump
[FREEBEACON] Tom Steyer, Democratic mega-donor and environmentalist, has demanded Democratic politicians and candidates pledge to to push for the impeachment of President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
if they take control of Congress next year.

Steyer, a Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party, investor and multi-billionaire who donated more than $91 million to Democratic campaigns during the 2016 cycle, issued a letter to Democrats on Wednesday demanding a pledge to push for Trump's impeachment, the New York Times

In his message, Mr. Steyer described Mr. Trump as a "clear and present danger to the republic" and called on Democrats to pledge that they would seek to remove him from office if they take control of Congress next year.

Mr. Steyer ‐ who is considering a run for Senate, perhaps against Senator Dianne Feinstein

At age 80, Feinstein is the oldest currently serving United States Senator....
, a fellow Democrat ‐ cited a range of acts by Mr. Trump to justify impeachment, including the president’s "relationship with Vladimir Putin

Putin is credited with bringing political stability and re-establishing something like the rule of law, which occasionally results in somebody dropping dead from polonium poisoning. I know I said yesterday that Feinstein is a Senator for life but...Calipr0nia has instituted an unusual system in which the two top vote getters in the primary run against each other in the general regardless of party affiliation. Suicide attacks hits Damascus cop shop
Three suicide bombers blew themselves up near the police headquarters in central Damascus on Wednesday, Syrian state media said, in the second such attack to hit the capital this month. Terror group ISIS later claimed that attack.

The blasts killed one person and injured six others, state television said, citing the interior ministry.

The suicide bombers tried to storm the police command center and clashed with guards before detonating explosive belts at the entrance, it said.

The police cornered the third attacker behind the building, where he blew himself up on the street, state media added.

Earlier this month, suicide bombers struck a police station in another part of the capital, with 17 people reported dead.

On that note, Syria’s Kurds were reportedly cited as ‘competitive’ against the pro-regime forces, seeking control over oil-producing areas, Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Moualem said on Wednesday.

“They (the Kurds) know well that Syria will not allow its sovereignty to be violated under any conditions,” Moualem told his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov during a meeting in Russia’s Black Sea resort of Sochi.

“They are now drunk on US assistance and support. But they need to understand that this assistance won’t last forever.”

The announcement was made hours after an explosive New Yorker magazine story alleged that Weinstein had raped multiple women. The report also included new allegations of harassment and other improper behavior.

A spokeswoman for Weinstein denied the rape allegations in a statement provided to CNN.

"Any allegations of non-consensual sex are unequivocally denied by Mr. Weinstein," the statement read. "Mr. Weinstein has further confirmed that there were never any acts of retaliation against any women for refusing his advances."

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Syrian Army Combat Summary
The Syrian army units regained a number of important points on the eastern bank of the Euphrates River and the area surrounding al-Mayadeen city in Deir Ezzor province.

SANA reporter in Deir Ezzor said that army units carried out special operations against strategic sites for ISIL from the direction of al-Tiba village adjacent to the city of al-Mayadeen and established control over a number of those sites, killing a large number of terrorists and destroying a vehicle rigged with explosives and vehicles equipped with heavy machineguns.

In the area east of the Euphrates River, the army units operating in Hatla area retook a number of important points towards al-Siasiyeh Bridge, in an important step towards encircling ISIL terrorists in the neighborhoods of Deir Ezzor city.

The reporter pointed out that the Syrian Air Force destroyed vehicles, gatherings and fortified points for ISIL in the cities of al-Mayadeen and al-Mo-Hassan and the villages of al-Tiba, Ziban, Buqrus Tahtani, Buqrus Foqani, al-Bo-leil, Badiet Khsham, Hatla, al-Salhiya, al-Husseiniya, al-Jneina and Huweijet Saqr and the neighborhoods of al-Ommal, al-Arfi, al-Sina’a, al-Hamidiya and al-Huweiqa.

More ISIS terrorists were killed or injured after heavy clashes with army units in the neighborhoods of al-Arfi and al-Sina’a, said the reporter, confirming the downing of two reconnaissance aircrafts for ISIL in the neighborhood of al-Qussour and al-Sina’a.

In another context, the helicopters of the Syrian Arab Army dropped leaflets over all the villages in the eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor, calling on civilians to move away from ISIL sites.

Meanwhile, local sources said that new ISIL groups have fled away, including leaders Khalid Eleiwi and Samer al-Deiri, adding that ISIS terrorists killed a civilian and hanged his body at the roundabout of al-Hissan village in the northwestern countryside of Deir Ezzor.

Pakistani extremists oppose NYC terror suspect's US extradition
With allies like these...
[DW] A Pak court is set to decide the fate of an Islamic State-linked terror suspect whose extradition is being sought by the US. The Trump administration has ratcheted up pressure on Islamabad to act against Islamists.

On Friday, US officials announced charges against Talha Haroon, a 19-year-old US citizen of Pak origin, and two other terror suspects, Canadian Abdulrahman El Bahnasawy and Filipino Russell Salic - aged 19 and 37 respectively - for plotting to attack New York City, including Times Square and the subway system, in 2016.

A Pak court in Islamabad will hear Haroon's bail plea on Friday, October 13, according to the News Agency that Dare Not be Named. Defense lawyer Idrees Ashraf says his client's father, Haroon Rashid, previously obtained a stay on his son's extradition from the same court.

China-Japan-Koreas
US Navy crew monitoring North Korea says their ship is a ‘floating prison'
[NY Post] There is a serious morale problem on one of the US Navy’s missile cruisers charged with keeping North Korea at bay, according to a new report.

Crew aboard the USS Shiloh told an anonymous Navy survey the boat is a "floating prison" and said that they "hate" their job and ship, according to a Navy Times report detailing the shocking responses.

"I just pray we never have to shoot down a missile from North Korea, because then our ineffectiveness will really show," one dejected sailor wrote.

Crew lodged the hair-raising complaints in three surveys conducted between June 2015 and August of this year ‐ when the ship was commanded by Capt. Adam M. Aycock. He was not fired, the Navy Times reported.

Another stationed on the vessel said that depressed and suicidal crewmembers were afraid to report the life-threatening conditions because those who did were prevented from leaving the ship.

Trial sees video of Kim Jong-Nam on stretcher
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Footage of the North Korean leader’s half-brother being wheeled out of a Malaysian airport on a stretcher after being poisoned was shown at the trial of his alleged killers on Wednesday.

Video from airport security cameras also showed Kim Jong-Nam having difficulty walking after the attack, and footage of two women who allegedly murdered him fleeing the scene.

Vietnamese Doan Thi Huong and Indonesian Siti Aisyah are accused of murdering Kim on February 13 by rubbing the nerve agent VX on his face in a Cold War-style hit that stunned the world.

Police told the court he had been carrying the equivalent of about $100,000 at the time.

The women, who were nabbed
Drop the rod and step away witcher hands up!
a few days afterwards and face death by hanging if convicted, have pleaded not guilty
"Wudn't me."
to killing the estranged half-brother of Kim Jong-Un at the airport near the capital Kuala Lumpur.

The defendants say they were duped into believing they were taking part in a prank for a reality TV show, and their lawyers blame North Korean agents for the liquidation.

On Wednesday the Shah Alam High Court outside the capital was shown footage of Kim being accompanied by airport staff to an on-site medical clinic after the attack.

At first he looked fine and was walking normally but later footage showed him taking small steps and staggering.

He was then shown lying on a wheeled stretcher, with some sort of breathing equipment attached to his face and surrounded by paramedics.

The paramedics are seen treating him in a corridor before he is wheeled into an elevator.

Earlier, the court saw CCTV footage of Kim arriving at the departure hall of Kuala Lumpur International Airport’s budget terminal and heading towards a check-in counter.

Another video showed Aisyah, 25, running out of the departure hall and later leaving a toilet.

Huong, 29, was shown in footage entering a toilet. The pair are later shown in the taxi pick-up area of the airport and Aisyah is seen getting into a taxi.

Police officer Wan Azirul Nizam Che Wan Aziz testified Tuesday that Huong had attacked Kim in a "quite aggressive" fashion and had carried out an apparent practice run at the airport two days earlier.

Wan Azirul also said Wednesday that money equivalent to about $100,000 was found in Kim’s bag. He said it was being kept by the Malaysian police.

Bahrain’s King Hamad calls for religious tolerance, peaceful coexistence
Impressive.
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Bahrain’s King Hamad
...King of Bahrain (since 14 February 2002), having previously been its emir (from 6 March 1999). He is a Sunni, while the rest of Bahrain is predominantly Shiite...
bin Isa al-Khalifa has announced the release of an official declaration calling for religious tolerance and peaceful coexistence, in an opinion piece on Tuesday.

In the piece, published on the Washington Times, the king recognized Bahrain’s "multicultural, multifaith society" as a "natural and normal way of life for us in Bahrain."

"We believe ’ignorance is the enemy of peace,’ and that true faith illuminates our path to peace. For this reason, we decided to compose the Kingdom of Bahrain Declaration, calling for religious tolerance and peaceful coexistence throughout the entire world."

The king said the declaration was a natural extension of Bahrain’s national heritage.

"As Bahrainis, we drew from our national heritage as a beacon of religious tolerance in the Arab world during a time when religion has been too frequently used throughout the world as a divine sanction to spread hate and dissension."

He said the declaration was drawn up "in consultation with Sunni and Shiite scholars, along with Christian clergy and Jewish rabbis, including our friend, Rabbi Marvin Hier of Los Angeles’ Simon Wiesenthal Center."

Pluralism and religious discrimination
He said the document "calls for pluralism, which ’unequivocally rejects’ compelled religious observance, and condemns acts of violence, abuse and incitement in the name of religion. For national leaders like myself, the declaration makes it clear that ’it is the responsibility of governments to respect and protect equally both religious minorities and majorities,’ and that there is no room for religious discrimination of any kind."

He added that the declaration was a "call for leaders and for the masses."

The king wrote: "In the Arab world, we need not fear religious pluralism, and the non-Arab world need not fear us. In fact, we need one another, and we must meet one another along a path of mutual respect and love. Perhaps, only then will we find the elusive path of peace we seek."

King Hamad described religious diversity in Bahrain as a "blessing to our people" and said the kingdom was stronger because of it.

"We welcome our Catholic, Orthodox and evangelical church communities. We are proud that our Hindu nationals can worship in a 200-year-old temple complete with their images, just around the corner from the Sikh temple and the mosques.

"We celebrate our small ‐ but precious ‐ Jewish community, who feel free to wear their yarmulke and worship in their own synagogue, which, we are informed, is the only one in the Arabian Peninsula. In fact, our Jewish community plays a very active role at the highest levels of society, including an ambassador from Bahrain to Washington in 2008, the first Jewish diplomat to the United States from an Arab country. We wanted to protect our religious pluralism for future generations, so we have enshrined this in law, which guarantees everyone the right to worship unhindered in safety and to build their houses of worship.

"Our noble ancestors began this Bahraini tradition of churches, synagogues and temples being built next to our mosques, so there is no ignorance about others’ religious rites or practices. We all live together in peaceful coexistence in the spirit of mutual respect and love, and we believe it is our duty to share this with the world," the king wrote.

Belgium Charges New Suspect over 2016 Brussels Suicide Attacks
[AnNahar] Belgian authorities have enjugged
Youse'll never take me alive coppers!... [BANG!]... Ow!... I quit!
and charged a man with terrorism offenses over the March 2016 suicide kabooms in Brussels, the latest in the ongoing case, prosecutors said Wednesday.

The 39-year-old man named as Brahim T., a Belgian national, was arrested on a warrant from an investigating judge and is due to appear in court for a pre-trial hearing in the next few days, the federal prosecutor's office said.

"He is charged with participation in the activities of a terrorist group, terrorist murders and attempted terrorist murders, as a perpetrator, co-perpetrator or accomplice," it said in a statement.

Prosecutors gave no details about his ties to the jacket wallahs who killed a total of 32 people at Brussels international airport and a metro station in the Belgian capital.

But the announcement comes a day after Belgian media reported that police had made around a dozen counter-terrorism raids in which four people were arrested.

One raid was reported to have targeted a shop in Brussels where materials for the bombs may have been purchased.

Nine people have previously been charged over the attacks.

Najim Laachraoui and Ibrahim El Bakraoui blew themselves up in the crowded departure hall of Zavantem airport early on March 22 last year. Shortly afterwards, Ibrahim's brother Khalid attacked Maalbeek metro station in the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
quarter.

Mohammed Abrini, widely known as the "Man in the Hat" from video footage of the airport attack, failed to detonate his suicide bomb and was filmed fleeing on foot back to central Brussels where he disappeared.

Osama Krayem, 24, seen with Khalid El Bakraoui at a metro station carrying huge backpacks before going their separate ways, also failed to go through with his suicide kaboom.

Krayem, born in Sweden to Syrian parents, apparently hid himself among fleeing refugees to return to Europe
...also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
from Syria in 2015.

Both Abrini and Krayem were arrested in Brussels in early April last year.
