Cops shock suspect who claims he's Cheney
No word if alcohol was a factor, but I could venture a guess...
STRATFORD — A man claiming to be Vice President Dick Cheney led authorities on a high-speed chase through town Monday night, colliding with a patrol car before he was shocked with a stun gun and arrested, police said.
Come and get me, coppers!
John Spernak, 42, of Meadow Street, claimed during his arrest to be the vice president as well as the husband of Nicky Hilton, sister of pop celebrity Paris Hilton, police said.
Oh, that's right. Morgan Fairchild's already married.
He was charged with attempted first-degree assault, engaging police in a pursuit, reckless driving, criminal mischief, interfering with police and being in a town park after dark.
Maybe he thought he was Vince Foster?
While in custody, police said, Spernak admitted he wasn't Cheney, but rather Jaclyn Smith, former star of the television show "Charlie's Angels."
Well. Talk about polar opposites.
He was taken to Bridgeport Hospital for a psychiatric evaluation.
Might be for the best...
Police said officers were patrolling Long Beach after 10 p.m. when they spotted Spernak parked in a 1994 Cadillac Eldorado. Officers approached the car when it suddenly took off at high speed, police said. The car traveled along Main Street, exceeding 90 mph. At Blakeman Place, the Cadillac crashed into the driver's side of a patrol car, and then kept going, police said. Police said Spernak eventually pulled into his own driveway on Meadow Street. But even then, they said, he refused to get out of the car, forcing an officer to shock him with a stun gun so that he could be placed in handcuffs.
Come with us, Mr. Vice President...

Dhaka university caterer sacked for serving dog meat
DHAKA: The caterer at a dormitory on Bangladesh’s Dhaka University has been fired after students complained they were served dog meat, officials said on Thursday. Students at the Hajji Mohammad Mohsin Hall protested after a student suspected that the meat on his plate was of a “dog or fox”, instead of beef or mutton. He drew the attention of other students, who rushed to the authorities demanding an immediate investigation. “We have seized the menu and expelled the hall caterer,” said Ahmed Zaman Anwar, provost of the 1,200-student dormitory. “The offending meat has been sent for tests at a laboratory and we are waiting for the results,” he said.

British Teachers Union Calls For Establishment Of A Ministry Of Silly Walks
A teachers' union has suggested the national curriculum should be torn up and children taught life skills instead, such as how to walk.

The Association of Teachers and Lecturers (ATL) said children could learn a lot from walking because you need to adapt your technique according to your environment.

Speaking earlier this week, the acting deputy general secretary of the ATL, Martin Johnson, said: "There's a lot to learn about how to walk. If you were going out for a Sunday afternoon stroll you might walk one way. If you're trying to catch a train you might walk in another way and if you are doing a cliff walk you might walk in another way.

"If you are carrying a pack, there's a technique in that. We need a nation of people who understand their bodies and can use their bodies effectively..."

Minister: (rising) Mr Pudey, (he walks about behind the desk in a very silly fashion) the very real problem is one of money. I'm afraid that the Ministry of Silly Walks is no longer getting the kind of support it needs. You see there's Defence, Social Security, Health, Housing, Education, Silly Walks ... they're all supposed to get the same. But last year, the Government spent less on the Ministry of Silly Walks than it did on National Defence! Now we get £348,000,000 a year, which is supposed to be spent on all our available products. -Signs, Portents, and the Weather-
Minneapolis Sewers Turn To Blood
A Minneapolis city worker is worried about blood in the sewer system because he said, while he was cleaning the system, blood sprayed out of a hole and got all over him. "We could tell it was blood, I mean large amount of blood," said Minneapolis Sewer Maintenance Worker Ron Huebner.

It happened about two weeks ago in Northeast Minneapolis near a lab that does medical testing and dumps blood into the sewer. It is allowed but the city is now making changes to help protect workers in the future. "Blood just all over my face, in my mouth, I could taste it. It was terrible. I had it in my mouth and I kept spitting and I couldn't get rid of it," said Huebner. Huebner said he hasn't been sleeping much. He's worried about the blood that he swallowed when he was operating a jet machine to clean out the sewer.

The Met Council said it was a mix of human and animal blood used in medical testing at this nearby lab. In fact, the company, R & D Systems, does have a permit to dump blood in the sewer system. However, Huebner wasn't protected or warned about the blood because his immediate bosses didn't know about. "We did not specifically know that this particular facility was discharging blood into the sewer system," said Minneapolis Public Works Deputy Director Heidi Hamilton.

There have been some changes, including more coordination among city departments so key information in permits gets to the right people and there's more required safety gear. "We have changed the procedure to ensure they're wearing goggles or a face mask while they are above that manhole," said Hamilton.

The Met Council is changing the permit to say that the city has to warn the lab it's coming to clean the sewer, and the lab has to stop discharging blood until they're done. R & D told the city the blood shouldn't present any risk, but Huebner's still worried. "I'm going to hope that nothing's wrong with me, but I don't want to see this happen to anyone else in my department," said Huebner. The Met Council issued the permit. When asked if it's safe to have blood in the sewers, the Met Council said it is no more harmful than most other wastes in the sewer. The sanitary sewer system is the appropriate place for this type of liquid wastes. There are other companies that have permits to discharge blood in the sewer system.

According to the Met Council, there are about four slaughterhouses, about 20 hospitals, and about a dozen medical and pharmaceutical companies that have permits. R & D Systems did not return calls made to their business.

#5  Discharging wastes, like blood, dairy, ground up fish waste, etc. is usually covered by permit. Wastes like these have high BOD (biochemical oxygen demand), which means that they put a higher demand on sewage treatment plants, or require bigger plants. In order to maintain the required treated wastewater quality, as stated in their operating permits, wastewater operators have to know what they are getting, and if they have the ability to treat it. Treated wastewater, depending on where you discharge it, has to be between 15 and 45 parts per million BOD, with total suspended solids down to about the same level, in addition, it must be disinfected with UV or chlorine to kill any remaining pathogens.

BOD in normal wastewater is 350 ppm or 350 milligrams oxygen per liter of wastewater.
Breweries 550 ppm
Slaughterhouses: 2500 ppm
Pulpmills 25000ppm

#8  Pulpmills 25000ppm

? Why is that?
Posted by: Shipman || 03/30/2007 19:25 Comments || Top||

#9  Ship, pulpmills take ground-up trees, soak the chips in water and put this with several other chemicals (called black liquor and white liquor)into a vessel called a digester that is then put under pressure and heat. The smell from pulp mills is mainly sulfur dioxide. The water is drained off and in most cases is not cooled. This warm water coupled with the residual vegetable matter and sulfur compounds is hard to treat. It takes a lot of water to run a pulp mill and that's why they are located next to rivers. The waste water has to be cooled and treated in order to retyrn it to the river.

Killer Frogs Threatening Pond at San Francisco park; 'They're Eating Each Other'
Killer frogs have taken over Golden Gate Park's otherwise peaceful Lily Pond in San Francisco, causing a big problem. According to KPIX-TV contributor and San Francisco Chronicle columnist Phil Mattier, the city is preparing to do something to stop the African clawed frogs. While they are just 5 inches in length, the frogs are eating everything in sight -- including turtles, fish and other frogs.

"They've eaten everything they can get their mouths around, and now they're eating each other," Eric Mills of the animal rights group Action for Animals, told Matier for his column.
Fighting back the obvious San Fran jokes

No one knows for sure when this frog species got into the pond or who put them there, but now city officials fear the killer frogs will spread throughout the Bay Area. "The fear is they will get out," Richard Schulke, president of the city's Animal Control and Welfare Commission, told Matier.

Park workers have used nets and traps baited with chicken to yank about 2,500 adult frogs out of the pond. The frogs are then sent up to Fish and Game in Yountville, where they are euthanized by a special nerve poison. But the Terminator toads just keep coming back.

"They are cute, but tough," Mills said. "I saw a heron swoop down and grab one. He had it in his bill for a while, tried to eat it, then just gave up and spit it out." In fact, about the only thing known to eat the frogs are crocodiles -- but that solution is probably out.

So what do you do when a whole pond is infested with killer frogs? Animal Control has asked the San Francisco Board of Supervisors for the money to drain the pond and eliminate these frogs.

Don't pass up the video. The news staff gets a good laugh out of some of the moonbat ideas on handling the situation. One of which is having the locals adopt the frogs and take them into their homes. Heh, it is San Francisco.

#14  Killer Frogs Threatening Pond at San Francisco park; 'They're Eating Each Other'

true story, that pond in the vid is in back of the par 3 golf course in Golden Gate Park.

Ironically there are dozens of homeless always 'camping out' within a concentric circle of about 2 or 3 hundred yards surrounding the Golf Course.

More Irony, Just to the West of that pond area there is a notorious homo-hang out section of the Park where the George Michael types "do homo" to each other in the bushes.

They are a dangerous group of fags btw, and even in San Francisco [SF gubmint is Homo Happy] the cops bust them in big round ups for accosting straights in bathrooms and the kids soccer field etc.

Ok now see the Irony, SF is so fu*ked up it can't even get rid of the Homeless or the Homos so we can all predict with some certainty that the killer frogs will be living happily ever after in that pond in GG Park.

If we could only get the killer frogs to attack the other problems! LOL!

North Pole Watch Floats 1,800 Miles - Keeps on Ticking
A wristwatch buried in the ice at the North Pole three years ago was found by a boy more than 1,800 miles away after it floated ashore on the Faeroe Islands.
I know, I know, you're thinking this is due to Global Warming.........

Niels Jakup Mortensen, 11, spotted a black box near his home on Suduroy, the Faeroes' southernmost island, his mother Anna Jacobsen said. Inside, she said, was a watch that had been buried at the North Pole by Joergen Amundsen, a descendant of Norwegian polar explorer Roald Amundsen. Jacobsen said the watch discovered by her son earlier this month was still working, and was accompanied by a letter from Joergen Amundsen. "It was so unbelievable," she said. "It had been buried in the North Pole."

Hjalmar Hatun, an oceanographer with the Faeroese Fisheries Laboratory, said the watch likely drifted south with one of the chunks of ice that frequently break away at the North Pole and are carried off by ocean currents. The Faeroes, an 18-island Danish territory, are located halfway between Scotland and Iceland.

Hatun said the ice breaking off is not related to global warming, as the phenomenon was first observed more than 100 years ago. "So in that sense, the fact that objects from the North Pole can drift south is old news," he said.

Britain
Muslim Doctors Breach Patient Confidentiality to Enforce Sharia

Guardian, March 28, 2007

The health secretary, Patricia Hewitt, has been criticised for suggesting that some Muslim GPs fail to respect the confidentiality of Muslim women who visit them.
Ms Hewitt said women feared talking about issues such as domestic violence and sexual health problems in case their details were shared among "close-knit" communities.

But one GP in Ms Hewitt's constituency accused her of being "out of touch".

A report in GPs' magazine Pulse said Ms Hewitt had first raised the issue in a lecture to the Fabian Society in London.

In an interview with Pulse, she expanded on her comments, saying: "I have had Muslim women give me chapter and verse on very distressing breaches of confidentiality by Muslim GPs.
"Some women patients feel they cannot trust their own GP, who knows the patient's extended families. If they go and talk to him about a very difficult situation concerning domestic violence or sexual health problems, they fear that he will share that with other members of the community. They are very close-knit communities..."

Now tell me that these Muslim doctors aren't revealing to local imams cases involving single women who need abortions or have an STD. Then tell me that this does not substantially increase these womens' chances of experiencing harm.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Stolen sand caused Gaza sewage tsunami
Further deadly sewage floods are feared after a wave of stinking waste and mud from a collapsed septic pool inundated a Gaza village, killing five people, including two babies. The collapse has been blamed on residents stealing sand from an embankment.
Stand by for handwringing:
It highlighted the desperate need to upgrade Gaza's overloaded, outdated infrastructure - but aid officials say construction of a modern sewage treatment plant has been held up by constant Israeli-Palestinian fighting.
But
However, construction of a new plant did not appear to have been affected by year-old international sanctions on the Palestinian Authority. The Gaza City mayor blamed the collapse on local people digging dirt from an earthen embankment around the structure and selling it to building contractors.

The existing plant in northern Gaza - located just a few hundred metres from the frontier with Israel - stored incoming waste in seven holding basins. But with the burgeoning population producing nearly four times as much waste as the plant could treat, local officials were forced to store the overflow in the nearby dunes, creating a lake of sewage covering nearly 45 hectares, according to the United Nations. An embankment around one of the seven holding basins collapsed, sending a wall of sewage crashing into the neighbouring village of Umm Naser. The wave killed two women in their 70s, two toddlers and a teenage girl and injured 35 others, hospital officials said. More than 200 homes were destroyed, health officials said. "This is a human tragedy," said Public Works Minister Sameeh al-Abed.

Rescue crews and gunmen (!) from the militant Hamas group rushed to search for people feared buried under the sewage and mud. Most residents fled or were evacuated. Rescuers in wetsuits paddled boats through the layer of brown foam floating on the green-brown rivers of waste. Others waded up to their hips into the sewage. Angry residents drove reporters out of the area and mobbed government officials. When Interior Minister Hani Kawasmeh arrived to survey the damage, his bodyguards fired in the air to disperse the crowd.

Fadel Kawash, head of the Palestinian Water Authority, said the sewage level had risen in recent days, creeping up the earthen embankments. Gaza City Mayor Majid Abu Ramadan, who leads a council of Gaza municipalities, blamed the collapse on endemic lawlessness. He accused local residents of stealing the dirt and selling it to building companies for 300 shekels ($A86.80) a truckload.

#11  "... but it's just a big joke for U.S."

Damn straight, skippy. I think it's hilarious. ALL of Gaza should be swept away in a tidal wave of sewage. And no Paleo should gripe about it either because the sewage is just exercising its legitimate "right of return."

The stupid Gaza bastards have, as Abba Eban said about all Paleos, "never missed an opportunity to miss an opportunity." They could have had peace DECADES ago if they had really wanted it. Instead, they prefer to live this barbarous existence whose sole reason for being is the destruction of Israel. It's long past just stupid and self-destructive; it's arguably mass insanity, probably caused by their attachment to the moon god cult.

That said, I am constantly amazed at the self-restraint the Israelis show in the face of such flagrant and continuing provocation. Even using conventional weapons they could make Gaza and Gazans cease to exist any afternoon they chose to do so and still be home for dinner. Maybe one day, when they've finally had enough of Paleos murdering innocent people, they will.

If they do, the Paleos will have no one but themselves to blame because they could have changed the path leading to that outcome at any time--but absolutely refused to do so.

#13  Here's another possible cause...

Jerusalem Post 3/4/07

It took seven years, but the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) has finally put a stop to one of the more ironic aspects on Israel's war on terror: Kassam rockets made of Israeli metal. A Palestinian from the Gaza Strip who worked as a metal merchant at the Karni crossing between Israel and the Strip was arrested by the Shin Bet last month for allegedly selling pipes he bought in Israel to terrorist groups that used them to manufacture Kassams, it was released for publication on Sunday.

On February 9, the Shin Bet arrested Amar Azk, 37. During his interrogation, he confessed selling the pipes to Hamas and other terrorist organizations that manufactured Kassam rockets, fired almost daily at Israel. The Shin Bet said Azk's activities began with the start of the second intifada in 2000 and were only brought to a halt by his arrest. The agency could not say how much metal Azk traded, except that it was "significant."

The pipes that were sold to Zak were intended for the construction of a sewage system in Gaza. The Shin Bet has been unable to determine the amount of metal that actually made its way to the terror organizations, and how much went to the sewage project.

The Shin Bet arrested Azk after it received numerous reports last year that hollow pipes made in Israel were being used to manufacture Kassam rockets and shoulder-launched missiles.

The Shin Bet found that most of the raw materials used to manufacture Kassams came from Israel. The Israeli companies, the security service said, were used by the terrorist groups without their knowledge. As such, the Shin Bet refused to divulge the names of the firms.

In November 2006, OC Southern Command Maj.-Gen. Yoav Galant issued an order forbidding the sale of hollow pipes of certain sizes to the Gaza Strip.

Put me down for "big joke in the US" also.

#17  Actually this kind of shit (pun intended) really gets the Paleos worked up but for the wriong reasons. Just a couple of miles down the the road Israelis have fresh water, indoor plumbing, plenty of food, education, computers, Ipods, cars (without bombs), and a much higher standard of living. The Paleos are still stuck in the middles ages and they blame the problems on the Israelis. Not to sound racial but it's much like Jesse Jackson blaming "White America" for all the ills of Black America. Problem with the paleos is that they have no "Leaders" beyond the murderers in Hamas, PLO, etc.

#18  Apparently it was better to pour their humanitarian funds into terrorism and corruption than to build infrastructure or a meaningful economy.

Think we'll hear any crying about that? I didn't think so. At most it will be just another lesson where corruption ends and undeniable consequences begin, and even that will be hazy to the people doing the embezzling.

The Palestinians are all idiots on this one, from the idiots who lived near the cesspool who stole the sand and thereby created a timebomb(what kind of people steal dirt anyway?), to those who witnessed it and said nothing, to those who owned/oversaw the "facilities" and knew/did nothing.

#22  ALL of Gaza should be swept away in a tidal wave of sewage.

In our dreams, Mac, only in our dreams.

The pipes that were sold to Zak were intended for the construction of a sewage system in Gaza. The Shin Bet has been unable to determine the amount of metal that actually made its way to the terror organizations, and how much went to the sewage project.

How much went to the sewage project? Ooh, ooh, lemme guess! Howabout, zeer-fucking-oh? Only Africa's tribal despots can remotely compete with the Palestinians for routinely squandering such stupendous amounts of money with so little to show for it afterwards.

The Palestinians' abject refusal to comprehend Cause and Effect makes them a prima facie case in proving Cause and Effect. The profound irony of this is lost solely upon them and their Muslim brethern. For the Palestinians, much like the Iranians, the global community's reaction should be only scorn and hilarious laughter at the puffery and idiocy manifest in their every thought, action and deed.

I have often used the analogy of the cock on the dunghill to describe the Palestinians. That the cock has sunk into the dung is indescribably precious. How often have the Palestinians had free houses built for them, only to use them as sniper outpotsts and had them consequently bulldozed for their troubles? Nonetheless, they have the temerity to go about wringing their hands over their well-deserved homelessness. The Palestinians have worked indefatigueably to turn their turf into a complete shithole. That it is now become one in fact has a sense of poetic justice and fitness that ordinary words simply cannot express with any degree of completeness.

#23  One of the major sanitation issues in Gaza is the raw sewage generated there and how it is disposed of. To the north is the intake for the RO fresh water plant at Ashquelon for Israel. The raw sewage coming off the Gaza Strip will not help this plant.

If the Paleos are going to go on the warpath and be hostile to Israel, then the Oslo Accords will not be valid, and Israel can go ahead and shut down water and power to Gaza. I do not know why they have not started turning off the spigot now. Probably Olmert sez no, being the good liberal that he is.

The collapse of the holding ponds for the raw sewage is just another example of why the Paleos are incapable of governing themselves. This is a human tragedy, all right. It shows what really stupid people, who are purposely kept ignorant, stirred up, and indoctrinated in hate by their Arab taskmasters can do, given 60 years.

#24  How very clever Bruce from MS is. He brings to our attention that the Gaza authorities were informed in 2004 by nothing less than the UN itself that they needed to upgrade their sewage facilities immediately. About which the Gaza authorities clearly did nothing useful (filling in the gaps between non-waterproof sand dunes to form a makeshift sewage swamp is not a useful response)... and he blames US for finding dark humour in the predicted, inevitable, and clearly avoidable result.

Bruce dear, you seem incapable of reading the words your own fingers type. You might want to consider a brain transplant.

#25  Interspersed throughout the many (snark-laden) comments here are many bits of wisdom, that the Paleos, should they ever evolve beyond living in shitty conditions, choose to ruminate over, could actually help them elevate their standard of living. although right now almost anything would be an improvement.
all i can say is that i keep having a mental double-exposure wherein the shit storm that struck the paleos would almost have been funnier if it had happened in New Orleans and then we could listen to ol' Ray bleat. picture, if you will that huge fleet of school busses mired in turds.....
