-Lurid Crime Tales-
Sacramento Massacre Was probably Crips vs Blood
[LATimes] Sacramento police said Wednesday that it appears at least five shooters fired guns during Sunday’s massacre in downtown, which killed six people and injured 12.

Officials are still trying to determine the motive for the violence but said in a statement, "... it is increasingly clear that gang violence is at the center of this tragedy. While we cannot at this time elaborate on the precise gang affiliation of individuals involved, gangs and gang violence are inseparable from the events that drove these shootings."..

A law enforcement source said that Smiley Martin and his brother are associated with a Crips gang while others involved have ties to a Bloods gang that historically is a rival.

Disney Executive Celebrates ‘Targeting Gen Z and Millennials' with LGBTQIA2S+ Content: ‘Nobody Stopped Us'
[Breitbart] Leaked video from Disney’s “Reimagine Tomorrow” summit shows Disney corporate president Karey Burke saying that the company has been “targeting Gen Z and millennials” with LGBTQIA2S+ content, and that her son told her, “Gen Z is 30 to 40 percent queerer than the other generations, mom, so Disney better get with it.”

“When I was at Freeform, it was very much in the brand ethos of Freeform to be the tip of the spear when it comes to inclusion,” Burke explained of her experience working for another company, adding that the situation is very different at Disney, which caused her to “celebrate.”

“And we, like you, Latoya, we jumped up and down. We celebrated that. Nobody stopped us, and it felt great,” Burke said to Disney executive producer Latoya Raveneau, who has admitted to having a “gay agenda,” and wanting to get “gay advanced” with regards to children’s content at Disney.

Burke, who has one “pansexual” child and one transgender child, went on to say that she believes “nobody stopped us because we were targeting Gen Z and millennials.”

“We were targeting a young, I think, more open-minded — and now we know, as my son texted me this morning: ‘Gen Z is 30 to 40 percent queerer than the other generations, mom, so Disney better get with it,'” the Disney executive added.

This is not the first time Burke has been seen in leaked video footage talking about advancing LGBTQIA2S+ content in content geared toward children.

Previously leaked video from the summit also shows Burke claiming that not enough lead characters in Disney content are “LGBTQIA.”

Disney's head of content says Gen. Z is 30-40% 'QUEERER' than previous generations and it's a business decision to 'target' them, kids of staff are offered info on 'gender affirmation procedures' and CEO Bob Chapek apologizes again in leaked Zoom
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news]
  • Disney executives have spoken at an internal 'Reimagine Tomorrow' forum - part of an initiative begun in September to increase representation on screen

  • Karey Burke, head of entertainment, said that it made commercial sense for Disney to show more gay and non-binary characters

  • She told the virtual assembly her son had told her: 'Gen-Z is 30-40 percent queerer than other generations Mom, so Disney better get with it'

  • Bob Chapek, the CEO, told the forum he 'pledged to be a better ally for the LGBTQ+ community' and 'apologized for not being the ally you needed me to be'

  • Chapek, who has been strongly criticized for his handling of Disney's policy on LGBTQ issues, said he learnt from the experience and felt their 'pain'

Video shows partygoers jumping for their lives when bridge crushes boat
[NYP] A tense video captured a group of revelers jumping off a pontoon boat in South Florida after it was partially crushed by a drawbridge.

Gillian Pisciotto witnessed the recent incident and shot viral video that shows the boat stopping under the Cato drawbridge along the Intracoastal Waterway in Jupiter, Fox 13 reported.

The boat did not go under the bridge in the main channel, and instead went closer to the edge of the waterway, the outlet said.

There are signs along that section that say "Unauthorized personnel prohibited," "Danger moving machinery" and "No trespassing, violators will be prosecuted."

"Twenty minutes went by and the drawbridge began to open for a sailboat," Pisciotto told Fox 13. "(The bridge) began to crush the boat and me and my friends were in shock, not knowing how to react."

Will Smith-Chris Rock slap at Oscars was staged
Speculation from a pro.
[NYPost] Ric Flair thought the kerfuffle of Will Smith slapping Chris Rock was a work.

That’s the term in Flair’s world of pro wrestling, when the violence is scripted. Flair and his longtime friend Mike Tyson spoke to The Post to promote Tyson 2.0, the cannabis business they’re partnering in, and covered a wide range of other topics like his daughter Charlotte Flair’s success in WWE, Hulk Hogan’s proclamation that Flair was the greatest wrestler of all-time and the Oscars’ moment that will live in infamy.

“I didn’t think it was real,” Flair said of the Smith slap.

Tyson chimed in: “If Ric says it’s a fake, then it’s a fake.”

#5  It is Hollywood... and they are in the business of faking things, so we cannot tell by looking at the event unless it was done so badly as to be obvious. (see Juicy Smollett)

However, we can look at the effects: who benefits?

Will Smith: Does this help his career? I'd say no. He looks like the stereotypical angry prone-to-violence black guy, his marital 'issues' are paraded in public, his good-guy movie image takes a hit, and he is out of the Academy. Sounds negative to me.

The Academy Awards: Hollywood loves drama. Lately, ratings for the Academy Awards have been in the dumpster. A little drama might perk things up. "Let's watch and see what a bunch of coked-up actors do this year!" That is a plus, but the cost is losing a known star and the box office revenue he generates.

Seems to me Will takes a bigger hit than the Awards show gains. But maybe they playing the long game with a fall-and-redemption story arc.

tl;dr: Is it fake or does Will Smith just slap like a girl?

#14  QUESTION ASKED: "Will Smith: Does this help his career..."

If he is trying to land a role as a billy-bad-ass character in this next movie. It could help him in getting more $$$$$$.

OR

‘Island-Wide Blackout’ Strikes Puerto Rico After Major Power Station Erupts In Flames
[ZeroHedge] Puerto Rico's power grid was hit by a devastating fire at one of the largest power plants on the island that triggered widespread blackouts, according to Bloomberg.

On Wednesday night, the outage began when a fire broke out at the Costa Sur power plant in the island's southwest region, Puerto Rican utility company LUMA Energy said.

The Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority (PREPA) tweeted a video of one of the power plant's generator circuit breakers erupting in flames, shooting fireballs into the night sky.

"The power grid has suffered a massive island-wide blackout, potentially caused by a circuit breaker failure at the Costa Sur generation plant," LUMA officials said Wednesday night. The fire was extinguished hours later.

In recent months, the outage was one of the biggest for the island's deteriorating electrical grid, which has seen frequent rolling blackouts grow worse by the year.

Meanwhile, Puerto Rico exited bankruptcy last month, but PREPA remains buried in insurmountable debt, totaling around $9bln.

More than 30 civilians killed in Russian rocket attack on Ukrainian train station -- Updated
[Independent] More than 30 people have reportedly died after two Russian rockets hit a train station in Donetsk where thousands of people were waiting to be evacuated.

Ukrainian Railways said dozens of civilians were killed and more than 100 others were injured when the projectiles struck the station in the city of Kramatorsk on Friday.

“Two rockets hit Kramatorsk railway station,” the state railway company said in a statement.

“According to operational data, more than 30 people were killed and more than 100 were wounded in the rocket attack on Kramatorsk railway station,” it added.

Russians say the missile is Ukrainian. The missile fired may have been a "short":

Bridges Blown Up As Ukraine Braces For Donbas Assault
[NATION.PK] A highway through the rolling plains of eastern Ukraine looks set to play an important strategic role in the anticipated Russian offensive in the Donbas.

Connecting the regions of Kharkiv and Donetsk, the two-lane thoroughfare is one of the key routes in the northeast of the country.

The road runs like an arrow to the centre of the Ukrainian-controlled Donbas, caught between pro-Russian statelets of Donetsk to the south and Lugansk to the east, and the advance of Russian forces from the north.

"We re waiting for them!" said a lieutenant tasked with reinforcing the positions along the road, giving a thumbs up.

"We are going to destroy the enemy that came to invade our motherland. Fascist Russia, we can t describe it any other way. Who lives by the sword will die by the sword," says a young officer with a dagger strapped to his vest.

"If only Western countries would give us more vehicles, if only they would help us close the sky (to Russian planes). And victory will be ours."

The forest adjacent to the highway is dotted with springtime bluebells and camouflaged equipment alike.

Trench positions have been dug by a bulldozer, while the artillery and armoured vehicles have been largely covered with earth.

The road is littered with anti-tank obstacles. As winter reaches its end and the sodden terrain makes moving through the fields difficult, the army s aim is to control the asphalt.

Since capturing Izyum a few days ago, Russian troops are camped around 20 kilometres (12 miles) to the north of the twin cities of Slavyansk and Kramatorsk, the capital of the Ukrainian controlled Donbas.

According to the American think-tank the Institute for the Study of War, Slavyansk will be the site of "the next pivotal battle of the war in Ukraine".

Between Izyum and the Ukrainian-held city, the village of Krasnopillia, where elite Ukrainian troops are stationed, marks the frontline.

"The Russians are getting ready, we know they are preparing to attack," says a senior officer, noting the increasing activity of Russian helicopters, usually a sign of a large-scale operation.

"We are ready... we ve planned some surprises for them along the way," says the officer, a veteran of the 2014 war with pro-Russian separatists.

A few kilometres to the east of the road, the Seversky Donets river, winding through pine-covered hills, represents a natural obstacle to the advance of the invader.

A number of the eight water reservoirs along the waterway have been opened by the Ukrainians to make passage across even harder.

"The level has risen by two metres," according to one local.

Crossings, like the one in Bogorodychne, a village where a few older residents remain, have been blown up.

"Everyone is nervous at the moment, the old people did not want to leave," says Artur Nazarov, 58, the head of a local school.

"It s the end of the line, we ve made our provisions, we re waiting," he says, standing in front of the blown-up bridge.

A single bridge, three kilometres downstream in the usual tourist hotspot of Svyatogirsk, has so far been spared — though it too is mined and slated for destruction.

Flanked by hills, the "Holy Mountains" orthodox monastery — under the authority of the Patriarch of Moscow — used to attract pilgrims and visitors to its peaceful surroundings.

"When the Russians launch their assault, we will have an hour — two max — to evacuate to the west bank of the river," says a local commander in the territorial defence, Andriy Bezruchko.

Russian troops are a handful of kilometres away to the north and not necessarily in hostile territory.

"The population around here is 80 percent pro-Russian," says Andriy, 43, owner of a restaurant in Svyatogirsk.

"Of course the town is going to be taken. I am going to lose everything, my possessions, my house. Everyone knows me here, I m threatened all the time," he says with a shrug, showing the death threats he has received on his phone.

The monastery is also the site of a surprising manoeuvre, an illustration of the complexities of the war in east Ukraine.

Each morning, people gather to travel towards the Russian-controlled zone, all with the tacit consent of the Ukrainian authorities.

"These people think they will be safe in the occupied territories," says Andriy.

In the afternoon, a convoy arrives from the Russian zone. Svyatogirsk is a corridor, a discreet place of contact where civilians can pass from one side to the other.

"Cars are moving in both directions, the choice is still there for everyone," Andriy notes.

Battle In Donbas Will Look Like World War Two, Says Ukraine
[NATION.PK] The battle for the Donbas region in eastern Ukraine will remind the world of World War Two and involve thousands of tanks, Ukraine’s foreign minister says on Thursday.

Dmytro Kuleba asks NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. A collection of multinational and multilingual and multicultural armed forces, all of differing capabilities, working toward a common goal by pulling in different directions...
allies to provide "everything we need, and we will fight not only for our security, but for your security". NATO’s Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg says the alliance is ready to strengthen support but does not provide details of weapons.

#8  Why is this such a mystery? Putin's strategy is clearly to neuter Ukraine. He has destroyed the country's ability to produce and export anything. He's cut Ukraine in two and permanently blocked it off from access to the Black Sea.

Strategically, Ukraine is now worthless to the West. Negative worth, actually... an endless sinkhole for billions annually in Western aid.

Putin doesn't give a shit about morality or the world's opinion, least of all about his own conscripts. He wanted to permanently destroy Ukraine as a threat and hescachieved that.

#10  #2 Russians might want to lick their wounds and play defense for a while.

I doubt it. They are already pushing hard and now the Ukrainians have the long ass supply lines from Kiev and Poland. It is a race between how far the Russians can push before the new weapons and reinforcements get there to stop them.

It is looking like whoever gets the most stuff there fastest will win this battle and Russia has the edge here.

#11  Russia now controls the region's natural gas reserves as well. Ukraine has Europe's second-largest reserves of natural gas, along with significant biogas, hydrogen and biomethane energy potential.

The natural gas reserves are concentrated in the east, in the Dnieper-Dobets and Carpathian Basin. Should be obvious why the Russians never cared about Kyiv. The real prize is in Donbas and along the coast.

From the Russian Perspective: Operation on Denazification of Ukraine: operational summary April 7th (updated)
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[NewsFrontInfo] 22:39 The Russian side is ready to deploy humanitarian corridors in any direction of Ukraine as soon as possible and ensure the safe evacuation of civilians.

21:08 Nazis settled in Azovstal beat from RSZO "City" and mortars.

20:54 The official representative of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, Igor Konashenkov, announced the destruction of 42 military facilities in Ukraine over the past day.

In total, since the beginning of the special military operation, the following have been destroyed:
  • 125 aircraft;

  • 95 helicopters;

  • 416 unmanned aerial vehicles;

  • 227 anti-aircraft missile systems;

  • 2003 tanks and other armored fighting vehicles;

  • 220 multiple launch rocket systems;

  • 869 field artillery and mortar guns;

  • 1902 units of special military vehicles.

20:30 Parts of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are suffering heavy losses in the Nikolaev-Kherson direction. To replenish them, the command began recruiting volunteers in nearby settlements.

However, the number of people wishing to join the Ukrainian army is not very large there. Therefore, the command approved the recruitment of even citizens from among asocial elements: former prisoners, drug addicts and alcoholics.

The reason for such measures is the lack of personnel for the more than once announced counteroffensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the area. However, the Armed Forces of Ukraine are aware of these plans not only in Kyiv, but also in the command of the Russian group in the Kherson and Nikolaev regions.

18:26 Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmitry Kuleba admitted that the Ukrainian military may violate the rules of war, he said this, commenting on the video of the massacre of the Ukrainian military over Russian prisoners published in the media.

“I didn’t see it, I heard about it, I want to assure you that the Ukrainian army is following the rules of war,” Kuleba said when asked about the video. “Of course, there may be isolated incidents of violation of these rules, and they will certainly be investigated,” the head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry added.

18:13 At the intersection of Bogoyavlensky Avenue and the street of the 295th Rifle Division in Nikolaev, a checkpoint of the Armed Forces of Ukraine was installed. Dugouts are being created around it, to the construction of which captured alcoholics, drug addicts and other troublemakers are attracted. Coordinates - 46.913669, 32.044075.

18:11 "It is wise today to cooperate and build a peaceful life." The first successes of the military-civilian administration of Kakhovka. “The communal transport company has restored its work. We distribute humanitarian products. We are preparing the supply of medicines to our hospital, ”-toldPavel Filipchuk, head of the military-civilian administration of Kakhovka.

18:08 The Russian military took control of the instrument-making plant in Izyum - the Russian Defense Ministry.

17:41 Briefing Mayor of Melitopol Galina Danilchenko dated 04/07/2022:
  • In Melitopol, before the holidays, a big cleaning of the city started.

  • The city is preparing for the end of the heating season.

  • A specialized wholesale food warehouse for entrepreneurs and residents of Melitopol will open in the city.

  • ATB chain of stores is preparing to open in Melitopol

  • In the microdistrict Aviagorodok, the issue of opening a pharmacy has been resolved.

17:06 The Investigative Committee concluded that the cause of the explosion at the ammunition depot near Belgorod, which occurred on March 29, was Tochka-U missiles with cluster submunitions. According to the agency, they arrived from Ukraine.

15:43 The supply of weapons to Ukraine leads to an escalation of the conflict - the head of the government of the Vatican.

15:20 “Thank you guys, thank you very much! We are very grateful to you for helping us. And we ask you not to leave us! Russian army helps residents of Melitopol.

15:15 Russian servicemen helped to evacuate the civilians of Izyum and provided medical assistance to those in need. People with chronic diseases and severe pathologies will be sent to Russia for treatment.

14:47 Schoolchildren in Latvian schools are forced to fill out questionnaires about the Russian military operation in Ukraine. The Baltics are more and more asking for denazification every day.

14:13 Ukraine proposes to discuss the issues of Crimea and Donbass at a meeting of the leaders of the two countries, this plan is unacceptable - Lavrov.

14:06 A monument to Alexander Pushkin was dismantled in Transcarpathia in Ukraine. Also, a memorial plaque in honor of the Russian poet was removed from the school building in Mukachevo.

In Transcarpathia in Ukraine, a monument to Alexander Pushkin was dismantled. Also, a memorial plaque in honor of the Russian poet was removed from the school building in Mukachevo.

13:50 Information about the withdrawal of the RF Armed Forces from the Kherson region is another "fake" of Ukrainian propagandists.

In fact, units of the RF Armed Forces are successfully conducting a special military operation (SVO) and have now established full control over the city of Kherson and the territories adjacent to it. A new military-civilian administration has been appointed in the region, the supply of humanitarian aid to the local population has been arranged, and economic cooperation has been organized following the example of Crimea. Such work is systematically carried out in all Ukrainian territories liberated by units of the RF Armed Forces.

13:41 The Russian Aerospace Forces are conducting airstrikes on military facilities in Vasishchevo, Kharkiv region. In many parts of Ukraine, an air raid alarm is roaring.

13:30 A representative of the military-civilian administration of Energodar said that the city is organizing the supply of fuel and everything necessary. Also, employees of the military-civilian administrations help to organize the export of products from the Zaporozhye region to Russia.

13:26 To New Kakhovka delivered humanitarian aid from the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia. First of all, food and medicines are delivered. The Novokakhovskaya VGA organized the distribution of humanitarian aid in the settlements of Krynki, Obryvki, Maslovka, Dnepryany, Korsunka. According to the head of the military-civilian administration, Vladimir Leontyev, the process of applying for and issuing humanitarian aid is being built systematically. Delivery will become regular soon.

13:24 Over Kherson system air defense intercepted the released Ukrainian ammunition.

12:48 Appeared audio recording of negotiations between Nazi Sergei Korotkikh “Botsman”, whose units entered Bucha among the first after the Russian Armed Forces left it, with a curator from the SBU - 18+ A lot of obscene language. The latter reprimands Korotkikh for a video where corpses in Bucha, Kiev region, “come to life” by moving their arms. Another proof of the staging and gross provocation, in which Kyiv accuses the Russian army.

11:52 Melitopol Oncology Center got humanitarian aid.

11:49 In Gostomel, the Ukrainian authorities impose a curfew for ... a week! Think about it, you can’t leave the house for seven days! Not to the store, not to the pharmacy, not to get water, nowhere! And then they will again show shots of people who have violated this wild restriction, and pass them off as “victims of Russian aggression”?

11:06 Russian Defense Ministry published frames launch of cruise missiles "Caliber" from the frigate of the Black Sea Fleet. The strikes were carried out on Ukrainian bases for storing fuel and lubricants.

10:56 During the night, high-precision air and sea-based missiles destroyed four bases for storing fuel and lubricants in the areas of the settlements of Nikolaev, Zaporozhye, Kharkov and Chuguev, from which fuel was supplied to Ukrainian groupings of troops near Kharkov, Nikolaev and in the Donbass.

10:50 Operational-tactical aviation of the Russian Aerospace Forces hit 29 military facilities of Ukraine. Among them: two command posts, a radar for illuminating targets and guiding the S-300 anti-aircraft missile system in the Kurakhovo region, seven artillery batteries, a depot of rocket and artillery weapons and ammunition, as well as 10 strongholds and areas of concentration of Ukrainian military equipment.

10:30 Russian troops advanced from Izyum towards Slavyansk and Kramatorsk.

08:32 Voenkor VGTRK Yevgeny Poddubny told that Ukraine continues to be bombarded with Western weapons. “At the former Ukrainian positions, from which the formations of the Kiev regime were knocked out, there are actually no anti-tank systems of Ukrainian or Soviet production. Basically, these are Swedish-British complexes, American, German,” he said on the air of the 60 Minutes program on the Russia 1 TV channel.

08:30 In short, according to Izyum. Throughout the night, the MLRS of the Armed Forces of Ukraine fired at Izyum. The RF Armed Forces are fighting near the village of Suligovka, breaking through the enemy's defenses. The Suligovka area is very well fortified, our artillery works non-stop. Yesterday our reconnaissance took five prisoners, right on the positions of the Ukrainian artillery. Everyone says that they were mobilized a month ago from the Zhytomyr and Chernihiv regions.

08:09 Yesterday, a column of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, reinforced with armored vehicles, arrived in Konotop, Sumy region. The second day in the city is carried out forced mobilization.

08:00 Russian Defense Ministry publishes frames crossing of Russian equipment across the river Seversky Donets. For three weeks, battles were fought for the territory south of Izyum. APU shelled the bridge day and night.

The situation in the JFO zone is also difficult. The enemy is developing an offensive from Izyum to the south, as well as Kramatorsk and Slavyansk, and is trying to attack on the Ugledarsk-Marinka line.

11:32 After the retreat of the Russian troops in Chernihiv and the Sumy region, they are restoring order on the roads, restoring electricity and water supply. According to the authorities, Chernihiv is 70 percent destroyed.

11:21 Russia's military losses since the beginning of the war have already exceeded $12 billion, the OP reported.

11:17 Ukraine has already prepared a plan for restoring the country after the end of the war with Russia , Shmyhal said.

"We have already announced this plan. We will call it U-24. This is a plan for the renewal of Ukraine. There will be an appropriate recovery fund, which will take place in three stages. The first is already underway, when we restore the destroyed facilities temporarily, promptly and quickly," he said. .

The second stage is a quick recovery after the end of hostilities. It includes the resumption of water and electricity supplies in the devastated territories.

The third stage is a full-fledged renewal of cities, infrastructure and the country as a whole.

"This stage will be the most costly, the longest, but we want to implement it very quickly. This should be in parallel with the political processes of Ukraine's entry into the European Union, as was recently written in the Versailles Declaration," Shmyhal said.

According to him, the prospect of Ukraine's membership in the EU supports the internal expectation of a speedy end to the war.

10:56 The General Staff has updated the data on Russian losses in Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale invasion.

10:31 The goal of the Russian invasion is to destroy Ukrainians as a nation. The genocide in Ukraine is hard to deny after the appearance of photos of civilians killed in Bucha and other cities. This was stated in an interview with CNN by Polish President Andrzej Duda.

"Of course, it's hard to deny. It's a crime that fits the signs of genocide," he said.

In his opinion, the Kremlin, under the term "denazification of Ukraine," wanted to "carry out a massacre."

"The fact that Ukrainian civilians are being killed best shows what the purpose of the Russian invasion is. The purpose of this invasion is simply to destroy the Ukrainian nation," the Polish leader summed up.

Duda added that the dialogue with Russia does not make sense. And the sanctions against the Russian Federation should be even tougher. And the best thing is to ban the Russian Federation from selling oil, the President of Poland said.

10:27 The fifth package of sanctions against Russia does not include a ban on the purchase of oil in Russia.

9:51 The US Senate unanimously approved a bill that would allow Biden to use the lend-lease program to speed up the supply of weapons and other assistance to Ukraine. Politico reports.

The draft law was submitted to the Senate as early as January 2022 - more than a month before the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine and after reports of its preparation. Senators accepted it late on the evening of April 6.

The document expands the powers of the US president to conclude deals for the supply of weapons and other critical supplies to Ukraine, bypassing standard bureaucratic procedures.

In fact, Politico notes, the bill allows for the transfer of weapons free of charge on the condition that the recipient country pays for it later.

Now the document must be considered by the House of Representatives. If approved, it will be sent to the President for signature.

9:48 About 60 Russian servicemen from Pskov refused to go to fight on the territory of Ukraine, the Pskov province reported, citing its own sources.

“Now most of them are fired, but some are threatened with criminal cases,” the report says.

9:35 The United States believes that the country's intelligence will be able to identify Russian units that committed crimes in Bucha. This was reported by CNN with reference to the official representative of Washington.

9:10 In Energodar, the Russian invaders set about creating fake "authorities" and even fired the mayor and all members of the executive branch.

8:56 NATO member countries are divided on the future policy towards Russia in the context of the ongoing war in Ukraine, the New York Times writes, citing senior Western officials.

Thus, according to the publication, the Baltic countries and Poland insist on a complete severance of relations with Moscow and measures that would "bring Russia to its knees." They fear that anything Russia may present as a victory will cause serious damage to European security.

At the same time, France, Germany and Turkey want to continue to maintain contacts with Vladimir Putin, despite allegations of war crimes against the Russian army.

8:29 Russian troops failed to break through the defenses of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and occupy Novotoshkivske. Therefore, they fired at the settlements of the Luhansk region, aiming at civilian infrastructure, reports the head of the Luhansk military administration, Serhiy Gaidai.

Residential buildings in Lisichansk and a hospital in Severodonetsk were shelled

8:22 Britain is developing a plan to send armored vehicles such as Mastiff or Chakal to Ukraine, the Times newspaper writes.

7:49 As a result of attacks of the Russian troops the railway station in the Nikolaev area suffered, it does not work.

7:25 The Russian invaders are focusing their main efforts on preparing for an offensive in eastern Ukraine. The goal of the enemy is to establish full control over the territory of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions, they say in the General Staff.

6:27 Pentagon forecast: How long the war in Ukraine will continue if it is not stopped diplomatically is unknown, but Kiev can definitely win it. This was stated by US Department of Defense spokesman John Kirby.

"The fact that Russian President Vladimir Putin is going to concentrate on a smaller geographical area certainly creates the possibility that the violence will continue. It may even intensify throughout Ukraine," the speaker said.

At the same time, he reiterated that Ukraine could "absolutely" win the war. Evidence of this is the inability of the Russian leader to achieve his strategic goals.

"Mariupol has not been taken yet. He has withdrawn his troops from Kyiv. He has withdrawn his troops from Chernigov. Kharkov has not been taken. They have not taken Nikolaev in the south. Therefore, I think that the proof is literally in the results that you see every day," Kirby said.

5:55 Only in one of the garages in the village of Gostomel near Kiev, the police found the bodies of 11 shot people.

5:26 A total of 18 countries (EU, Poland, Romania, Slovenia, Greece, Portugal, Estonia, Latvia, Czech Republic, Netherlands, Belgium, Ireland, Macedonia, Luxembourg, Italy, Germany, France, Sweden, Denmark) together kicked out 318 Russian diplomats.

1:46 A rally was held in Berlin calling for an embargo on Russian energy carriers. About 5,000 people took part in it.

1:13 On the territory of the Kiev region liberated from Russian troops, sappers every day discover 4-5,000 explosive objects, the Ministry of Internal Affairs said.

0:53 The United States sent 100 Switchblade tactical unmanned aerial systems to Ukraine by the American company AeroVironment.

0:28 As of April 1, Ukraine's international reserves amounted to $28.1 billion, which is two percent more than at the beginning of March.

0:11 Servicemen of the Airborne Assault Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine destroyed the electronic warfare unit of the Russian army and the security forces guarding it.

China-Japan-Koreas
China Angrily Denies Evidence of Slow Planting, Potential Crop Shortages
[Breitbart] China’s state-run Global Times on Wednesday published a fulminating editorial denying widespread reports of serious problems with China’s spring planting season, including shortages of fertilizer and farmers prevented from tending to their fields by coronavirus lockdowns.
"It's all going according to our current 5 year plan"
“China’s spring farming, the first major battle to ensure sufficient grain production for the whole year, is in full swing across the country, despite challenges posed by Covid-19 and other factors, as officials are taking various efforts to support farmers and ensure food security,” the Global Times insisted.

The editorial quoted one farmer, one seed distributor, one government minister, and the usual unnamed “Chinese experts” to conclude that reports of a looming food crisis are lies spread by the “propaganda arm of the U.S. government,” as Voice of America News (VOA) was contemptuously described.

The Global Times argued that since China imports a small percentage of most crops other than soybeans, disruptions due to the Russia-Ukraine conflict should be inconsequential — as if losing 10 percent of the corn supply for a population of over a billion people is a trivial concern.

“Ukraine is China’s main source of corn imports, and the corn in China is mainly used as feed, and wheat is also used as feed, so there is little impact,” a Chinese Academy of Social Sciences researcher blithely declared — a statement that would puzzle anyone who has actually tried to raise livestock.

Despite its nasty cracks about foreign propaganda, the Global Times article did not really challenge any of the troubling reports from VOA and other foreign sources; it merely argued the skyrocketing prices and short supply of imported agricultural products and fertilizer are manageable problems. Hardscrabble Chinese farmers might be less sanguine than Communist Party editorialists about the price of fertilizer increasing by 30 percent.

The Global Times continued its harangue on Wednesday with the first of a promised three-part installment “investigating” the “smear tactics” employed by foreign reporters who think China might be headed for a food crisis.

One reason Communist Party propagandists dump so much ink on the food crisis story is that it can be seen as an indictment of China’s draconian “zero-Covid” policies. The Global Times focused on supply disruptions from Russia and Ukraine, but the farmers warning international media about the spring planting season are mostly complaining about coronavirus lockdowns blocking shipments to their farms and preventing them from working in their fields.

South Korea Asks United States for ‘Strategic Assets' After Kim Jong-un's Sister Threatens Nukes
[Breitbart] A delegation representing South Korean President-elect Yoon Suk-yeol met with U.S. National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan in Washington on Tuesday.

Among the topics of discussion was South Korea’s desire for more American “strategic assets” to be deployed for “strengthening extended deterrence” as tensions with North Korea grow.

North Korea greeted the new government in Seoul by picking a bizarrely vicious fight over a routine speech given by the defense minister from the outgoing administration. Taking point on the hyperbolic North Korean response, dictator Kim Jong-un’s sister Kim Yo-jong threatened to attack Seoul with nuclear weapons on Tuesday.

South Korea is long accustomed to belligerent rhetoric from the psychotic communist tyranny to its north, but the meeting with Sullivan suggests Yoon has real concerns about tensions escalating as he takes office.

Speaking on behalf of the new South Korean president, Rep. Park Jin of Yoon’s People Power Party – a leading candidate for foreign minister in the new administration – conducted the usual pleasantries at the White House before holding what he described as “consultations on ways to enhance the joint defense posture of South Korea and the U.S. and strengthen the U.S. extended deterrence.”

“Deploying strategic assets is an important part of strengthening extended deterrence as I said just now. You may understand South Korea and the U.S. discussed the issue today in that sense,” Park said.

Yonhap News noted “strategic assets” is usually interpreted to mean “formidable military hardware such as nuclear-powered submarines, aircraft carriers and long-range bombers.”

“South Korea’s defense ministry earlier said in a report to President-elect Yoon’s transition team that it plans to hold discussions with the U.S. on the deployment of U.S. strategic assets to South Korea amid growing tensions with North Korea,” Yonhap reported.

After meeting with U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman, Park said the White House agreed on “the importance of renewed consultative group activities for extended deterrence, which have not been functioning as they should.”

The Moon administration seemingly lost interest in some of the consultations Park referred to, preferring instead to pursue diplomacy with the North Korean regime. Yoon ran on a platform of getting tougher with Pyongyang after Moon’s dovish strategy failed to produce significant results.

Foreign Policy argued in March that Moon’s administration fundamentally misunderstood the nature and objectives of the Kim regime, which wants to absorb or conquer South Korea under the guise of “reunification,” not develop a sustainable peaceful relationship with Seoul.

“Yoon has promised ‘strategic clarity’ in declaring South Korea’s pro-American stance on matters of U.S.-China relations. The president-elect has also spoken of the importance of liberal democracy and human rights in Seoul’s foreign policy,” Foreign Policy added.

If Yoon is truly determined to stand up to China, his determination to secure more American strategic assets should give him an opportunity for defiance very soon. China is reliably infuriated by the deployment of such U.S. assets to South Korea, in part because the Chinese argue that advanced American sensor systems can see past North Korean territory and into China.

Yoon has also promised to resume joint military drills with the United States after Moon reduced them to placate Pyongyang. In fact, Yoon reportedly wants to expand the drills to increase their deterrence value, possibly adding nuclear-capable bombers for the first time in five years.

Big Media Lobbyists Try to Save JCPA with Sham Amendment
[Breitbart] Big media companies are making another attempt to pass the Journalism Competition and Preservation Act (JCPA), a bill that would protect them from online competition, propping up legacy media in the face of widespread public distrust and a failing business model.

According to an exclusive story published by News Corp’s Wall Street Journal (News Corp has been a major backer of this legislation, and similar efforts around the world), the new version of the JCPA would give an even bigger advantage to legacy media companies, giving them an antitrust exemption for ten years instead of the four years of the original bill.

Publishers would be given the legal authority to form a cartel, usually illegal under antitrust law, to collectively bargain with Silicon Valley tech giants for financial handouts and special treatment, such as prioritization in search results, news feeds, and other core features.

Sri Lanka Asks Experts To Plan Debt Restructure As Protests Rage
[NATION.PK] Sri Lanka’s president has appointed a panel of experts to organise a restructuring of foreign debt as he seeks a way out of a worsening economic crisis, with protests demanding his resignation escalating.

Shortages of food and fuel, along with record inflation and regular blackouts, have inflicted unprecedented misery on Sri Lankans in the most painful downturn since independence from Britannia in 1948.

Ratings agencies have warned of a potential default on the nation’s $51 billion foreign debt, with authorities unable to secure more commercial loans because of credit downgrades.

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s office said late Wednesday that a three-member advisory panel had been tasked with guiding Sri Lanka through a "sustainable and inclusive recovery".

His government is preparing for bailout negotiations with the International Monetary Fund, and finance ministry officials told AFP the trio will prepare a programme for sovereign bond holders and other creditors to take a haircut.

"What Sri Lanka is keen to do is avoid a hard default," a source from the ministry who requested anonymity told AFP. "It will be a negotiated restructuring of the debt with the help of the IMF."

Parliament Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardana warned Wednesday that the economic crisis could lead to starvation unless addressed within the week Meetings with the IMF are set to begin by next week but Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa — the president’s brother — resigned on Sunday night along with nearly the entire cabinet.

The country is still without a replacement, with his successor quitting after just one day in office.

Public anger is at fever pitch, with crowds attempting to storm the homes of several government figures and demanding President Rajapaksa’s resignation.

On Thursday a court in Colombo slapped a travel ban on the country’s recently resigned central bank chief over allegations he was responsible for the country’s predicament by not seeking IMF help earlier.

Arith Cabraal, who quit Monday, was told to appear in court on April 18 to answer allegations of a criminal breach of trust.

Rights activist Keerthi Tennakoon has filed a petition with the court alleging the current shortages are due to Cabraal’s mismanagement of Sri Lanka’s foreign reserves.

Court proceedings were briefly held up when the power went off.

#1  ...One of the big problems here - and curiously missing - is that President Rajapaska ran on a platform of (among other things) going 'all organic' in Sri Lankan agriculture, i.e.; no fertilizer.

This worked about as well as you'd expect. There weren't crop failures - they just couldn't grow enough. Tea, Sri Lanka's major agricultural export, took a massive hit. What little money they had was needed to buy food, and it still wasn't enough.

In the meantime, the good people of Sri Lanka who elected this moron (and BTW, since his brother was Finance Minister, I'd be looking REAL hard at exactly where all that money went) are getting it good and hard, while The Gods Of The Copybook Headings ruminate with Robert Heinlein about the concept of 'bad luck'.
