Former FBI contractor accused of grooming dozens of boys, soliciting child pornography
[Blaze] A former FBI contractor from Arlington, Virginia, has been indicted for allegedly grooming dozens of children and soliciting child pornography.

Brett William Janes, who began working for the FBI in May and previously worked for another unspecified intelligence agency, engaged with "roughly a dozen" young boys over Discord and Snapchat.

According to the Department of Justice, Janes groomed his victims by flashing his badge and "telling them he worked for a U.S. intelligence agency before repeatedly threatening suicide if the minors did not continue to communicate with him."

In one instance, the former FBI contractor successfully enticed a young boy he had met via the video game "Valorant" to "strip and masturbate over a live video Discord call," both by paying him hundreds of dollars over CashApp and again threatening to kill himself, said the DOJ.

Janes allegedly also had a 12-year-old boy create and send him child pornography via Discord "through flattery and repeated begging."

Family of five found dead in Ohio home
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] In the city of Uniontown in the US state of Ohio,
...south of Cleveland between Akron and Canton. Apparently it has its own Superfund site...
five people were found dead - members of the same family.
Carbon monoxide poisoning? Murder-suicide? Narco-gang murder? I await explication with bated breath.
This was announced on August 25 by the city police department on Facebook.

“Upon arrival, the [police] officers found five bodies of members of the same family. It is believed that this incident is a domestic conflict that turned into human casualties, ” the message says.

According to the preliminary conclusion of the police and the coroners' service, one of the family members killed all the others, after which he took his own life.
Plain vanilla murder-suicide. They have those in Russia, too.
As IA Regnum reported, on August 14 , mummified bodies of an elderly man and his adult son were found in one of the apartments of a multi-storey building in Yekaterinburg . According to preliminary data, the corpses had lain in the apartment for about five years.

In early July, a mummified corpse of a man was found hanging on a tree in New Moscow. According to experts, death occurred about two to three years ago.
Extra points for style to Russia on those two.

Ad firm behind Bud Light's Dylan Mulvaney fiasco fires 13 staffers after lavish French trip
[NYPOST] The Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party, marketing firm behind Bud Light’s disastrous tie-up with Dylan Stench of Death Mulvaney
...the transexual influencer who single-handedly trashed a major American beer brand owned by a Belgian company, tainted Maybelline and Condé Nast, and then demanded that anybody who called him/her/it a man be arrested...
fired more than a dozen employees — days after top brass boasted about a lavish junket to an award ceremony on the French Riviera, The Post has learned.

San Mateo-based Captiv8 — which The Post exclusively identified as the ad agency behind Anheuser-Busch’s short-lived partnership with the trans influencer — flew executives and guests on a private jet to the annual Cannes-Lions festival in June.

Captiv8 booked the private charter on a boutique French airline called La Compagnie, which features 76 lay-flat seats and a "bespoke plane experience," according to a blurb about the trip.

Upon returning from the marketing industry’s Oscars-like event, CEO Krishna Subramanian offered a recap of their trip during a company-wide Zoom meeting on July 3, multiple sources told The Post.

The presentation allegedly included photos of the giddy travelers aboard the luxury jet, as well as the yachts, pool parties and villas they visited in the South of La Belle France.

Two days later, however, the "tone-deaf" Subramanian handed out pink slips to 13 workers, about 5% of Captiv8’s more than 200 employees, a Captiv8 employee told The Post.

"They said they were investing in the future of the company and building relationships," one current worker who survived the purge told The Post, adding, "Maybe they could have saved jobs instead of blowing all of this money" in Cannes.

After the layoffs, Subramanian told remaining staffers on another company-wide Zoom call that the ad agency was "examining budgets" and "evaluating finances," according to sources.

"The timing was terrible," said one fired employee, who did not want to be identified out of fear of losing their severance package.

"You wouldn’t expect to be laid off after such an extravagant trip."

"If you get more business in Cannes, then you don’t downsize and cut your manpower," added the devastated worker, who has young children.

Africa Subsaharan
Observers question credibility of Zimbabwe vote. Really,
[AFRICANEWS] Foreign poll observers on Friday said Zim-bob-we's presidential and legislative elections failed to conform to regional and international standards, placing in doubt the credibility of the tense vote.

Zim-bob-weans went to the polls on Wednesday and Thursday in polling marred by delays. The vote took place against a backdrop of discontent at Zim-bob-we's economic crisis.

Regional and international observers listed concerns over the canning of opposition rallies, denial of accreditation to several foreign media, missing voters names from the roll at their polling station, biased state media and voter intimidation among the issues that sullied the election.

The head of the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
observer mission, Fabio Massimo Castaldo, said the election "fell short of many regional and international standards".

"Violence and intimidation resulted ultimately in a climate of fear," he said.

Commonwealth observer mission chair Amina Mohammed, of Kenya, said overall the voting process was "well conducted and peaceful" but a " number of significant issues" impacted on the election’s "credibility" and "transparency".

"Some aspects of the ... election fell short of the requirements of the constitution of Zim-bob-we, the electoral act and the SADC principals and guidelines governing democratic elections," said head of the regional bloc's delegation Nevers Mumba, a former Zambian vice president.

It was rare rebuke from the 16-nation Southern African Development Community (SADC) whose observers usually endorse polls in the member countries.

US targets individuals contributing to conflict and instability in Eastern DRC
[GOOBJOOGNEWS] The United States Department of the Treasury’s Office of Forensic Assets Control (OFAC) has imposed sanctions on six individuals it says have contributed to the escalation of conflict in the Eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo
...formerly the Congo Free State, Belgian Congo, Zaire, and who knows what else, not to be confused with the Brazzaville Congo aka Republic of Congo, which is much smaller and much more (for Africa) stable. DRC gave the world Patrice Lumumba and Joseph Mobutu, followed by years of tedious civil war. Its principle industry seems to be the production of corpses. With a population of about 74 million it has lots of raw material...
(DRC).

In a statement, the United States said the move reflects its commitment to advancing efforts toward resolution of the crisis, promoting accountability for human rights
...which are usually open to widely divergent definitions...
abuses including conflict-related sexual violence, and addressing the dire humanitarian situation.

"The United States is committed to promoting a peaceful resolution to the escalation of conflict in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo," said Under Secretary of the Treasury for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence Brian E. Nelson. "Treasury will not hesitate to hold accountable actors committing human rights abuses and exacerbating this already dire humanitarian situation."

The current escalation of conflict began in November 2021, when the Rwanda-backed M23 (March 23 Movement) occupied portions of the North Kivu province of the DRC, prompting the Congolese military (FARDC) and several non-state gangs, including the sanctioned Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda (FDLR), to respond.

HUMAN RIGHTS ABUSE
Nelson further stated that the United States stands in solidarity with the people of DRC against those who commit human rights abuses and destabilize the region.

Those affected include Apollinaire Hakizimana, a Rwandan national playing his violence in the FDLR rebel group as a ’defence commissioner’. He is sanctioned alongside Sebastian Uwimbabazi, also from Rwanda but now in charge of FDLR’s intelligence. Also sanctioned in the group is Ruvugayimikore Protogene, fighting for Maccabe group affiliated to FDLR. He is also from Rwanda.

The US State Department said the individuals had been involved in numerous cases, committing human rights violations including sexual violence and violence against children.

Kremlin commander who orchestrated the Salisbury poisoning 'had a role in the assassination of Yevgeny Prigozhin', British spies believe
[MAIL] The Kremlin commander who orchestrated the Salisbury poisoning had a role in the assassination of Yevgeny Prigozhin, British intelligence agents believe.

Major General Andrey Averyanov is said to have borne the former Wagner mercenary chief a long-held grudge.

Averyanov, who was in charge of the spies sent to Britain in 2018 to kill double agent Sergei Skripal, is tipped to take over the North African section of the force.

A UK intelligence source told the i newspaper: ’Many, including me, thought his [Prigozhin’s] days were numbered. There is a lot of discussion around the name mentioned [Averyanov].’

Averyanov runs a covert operations unit that carries out overseas missions such as the attempted assassination of Mr Skripal and his daughter Yulia.

He was seen introducing himself to African leaders at a summit in St Petersburg last month, prompting claims that Vladimir Putin will appoint him to lead Wagner’s activities in Africa.

Channels linked to Wagner on the social media site Telegram said the meetings were part of a Kremlin ’displacement operation’ to oust Prigozhin.

Home prices are getting so high that builders are starting to build smaller homes
[WND - JACK LIMPERT] — For many Americans, homeownership may be attainable only if they give up a dining room. Home prices are near record highs, frustrating millions of potential buyers who feel priced out of the housing market. Home builders are having to find ways to make their product more affordable to increase their pool of customers.

Shrinking the size of a new single-family home is an increasingly popular way to do it. Smaller homes can help cost-constrained buyers facing high mortgage rates. They also boost the bottom line for builders who are contending with spiraling labor and construction costs.

#5  Present? Ok, but is it at a meaningful level — that is to say high enough to actually have a health impact given the amount that would enter the fluid in the usual time a portion is drunk?

Usually with these kinds of studies they are able to measure the presence of the chemical, but at a level so low as to be meaningless. When the article says nothing about the level detected, that’s a hint that the joirnalist — and/or the scientist — is going for a dramatic panic rather than a reasonable scientific conclusion. Remember the Covid testing that drove the extended lockdowns?

As for me, I’ll continue using disposable plastic straws because I haven’t the energy to properly clean reusable straws after each use, and I loathe how paper straws fall apart in the mouth during use.

Southeast Asia
To reduce carbon footprint, Malaysia mandates less A/C for govt offices
What Washington, DC would be doing if they actually believed all the nonsense they spew about the climate.
[BenarNews] Malaysia has decided to increase the temperature in usually frigid government offices in a bid to save energy.

And to offset any discomfort that this may cause in the tropical country, the government has relaxed the employee dress code, giving civil servants the option to wear cooler — and more colorful — batik clothing to work on most days.

Air conditioners in government offices and premises will now be set at 24-25 degrees Celsius (75-77 degrees Fahrenheit), Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, the minister of Natural Resources, Environment, and Climate Change, announced on Tuesday.

"The decision that has been reached takes into consideration the climate of this country as well as the government’s commitment to achieving a net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions target as early as 2050," he said in a statement.

"[It] is as part of the government’s efforts to save energy, and support energy efficiency initiatives while also stimulating the Malaysian batik industry. ... This commitment involves reducing the carbon footprint resulting from electricity consumption practices."

The minister said that keeping in mind "local climate realities" — steamy and scorching weather — the government had given its employees leeway in what they could wear to work. Earlier, casual batik wear was allowed — encouraged, even — but only on Thursdays.

"The Cabinet also agreed that all civil servants have the flexibility to wear batik attire during working hours, not limited to just Thursdays as previously practiced."

Civil servants typically wear suits or a jacket in the office, as the air conditioning in government buildings is set very low, one civil servant, who did not wish to reveal her name for privacy reasons, told BenarNews.

"I usually wear a pashmina to warm myself up in the office and meetings room, because I cannot stand the cold A/Cs," she said, referring to a shawl made of very fine cashmere wool.

But in addition to changing the dress code, the Malaysian government has now also made it mandatory for civil servants to wear batik attire every Thursday, which previously was optional.

"In order to continue supporting the Malaysian batik industry, and to ensure that it remains a heritage and a symbol of Malaysian identity, the government agreed that all public officials are required to wear Malaysian batik every Thursday, and are encouraged to wear it on other working days," said a government notice this week.

Batik is the art of decorating fabric — cotton, silk or linen — using wax and dye, which has been practiced for centuries in parts of Asia, Africa and Europe, although it is said to have originated in Indonesia.

Former Malaysian Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob had a fondness for batik-print shirts and current Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is sometimes seen in one on more relaxed occasions.
