British Animal-Rights 'Hit List' Targets Children -- Is America Next?
September 23rd, 2004

The London Sunday Times reports that a "secret hitlist" containing the names of more than 150 people is being quietly circulated among animal rights leaders in the United Kingdom. The five-page "cracker list" gives the addresses and phone numbers of targeted individuals, and directs activists to a website that outlines techniques for violent attacks. "Whatever you do," the document advises, "just do it and show them no mercy." Incredibly, the list includes the names of 21 children.
One person whose name appears on the list spoke to the Sunday Times on the condition of anonymity, saying:

I've had at least eight demonstrations outside my home, often involving up to 30 people. My car has been attacked twice with paint stripper being poured on the bonnet [hood], tires slashed and graffiti sprayed all over the bodywork. The windows have been smashed on the house and slogans sprayed on the walls. We've had letters mentioning the school my kids attend, letters sent to about 20 neighbors stating I am a convicted pedophile, three bomb hoaxes for which I have had to call the bomb squad, countless threatening phone calls and hundreds and hundreds of false credit applications.
At a recent training camp held near London, animal-rights militants were taught how to deliver fatal blows in hand-to-hand combat. And animal-rights leaders vowed to wage a British campaign of terror featuring at least 10 attacks every day. Because of threats like these, the famed Oxford University had to stop construction on a new biomedical research laboratory, and has applied to Britain's High Court for protection. "We have allowed a virus to establish itself," writes Daily Telegraph columnist W.F. Deedes. "We are talking about blackmail ... ministers had better get going against the animal rights thugs."
UK Animal Liberation Front leader Robin Webb told the Scottish Sunday Herald last weekend that violent attacks are likely to escalate, and warned that children were fair game:

There are about 2,000 people prepared at any one time to take action for us ... The children [of targeted scientists and executives] are enjoying a lifestyle built on the blood and abuse of innocent animals. Why should they be allowed to close the door on that and sit down and watch TV and enjoy themselves when animals are suffering and dying because of the actions of the family breadwinner? They are a justifiable target for protest.
Americans would be wrong to assume this is just a British problem. As we told the Wall Street Journal last month, "the highest-profile cheerleader for Britain's animal-rights thugs is California physician Jerry Vlasak, a longtime spokesman for the Washington-based Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM), which the better-known People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) describes as a 'related' organization."
At last year's "Animal Rights 2003" convention in Los Angeles, Vlasak -- described in the convention program as a representative of PCRM -- endorsed the murder of medical researchers whose search for cancer and AIDS cures requires the use of animals. "I don't think you'd have to kill -- assassinate -- too many," Vlasak said. "I think for five lives, 10 lives, 15 human lives, we could save a million, two million, 10 million non-human lives."

Meanwhile, the U.S. component of the violent SHAC movement (which is supported by Vlasak) is currently facing a federal terrorism indictment, as are seven of its leaders. Yet that group is planning a high-profile gathering one month from now. Planned speakers include high-seas animal rights pirate Paul Watson and University of Texas El Paso professor (and terrorism apologist) Steven Best.

#5  The PETA pimps and their terrorist allies need to understand that there are similar lists of animal rights nazis (a term I don't use lightly). These will come into play the very minute one drop of blood is spilled in the United States in this insane and evil campaign of theirs. The power-drunk media whores in PETA play Sinn Fein to ALF's provos and their transparent lies about opposing violence will not make them immune to reprisal.

Possibly, but if they try this shit here, it had better be in one of the leftist moonbat enclaves if they want to go on breathing.

Unlike in Britain, we are allowed to defend ourselves. And have the means to do it.

#8  PLEASE! try it on my street. I have a new firearm I want to try out. By killing 5 or 6 of these Terrorist PETA turds we might save 6 or 7 real human lives.

Oh it's in the U.K. The unarmed police will show up and draw a chalk outline in the street and block off all movement for days while they study the crime scene and never solve the case even if they are handed a video tape of the murder with accompanying notarized conffesions.

In the U.K. animials ARE more important than humans. Well at least according to the BBC.

#10  As someone who does medical research, this is a very serious issue for biomedical researchers and physicians, and it's already cost us in this country, in lost dollars and hours in heightened security and in scaring off a few prominent researchers from their work. These terrorists need to be thumped, and hard.

Howard: Tories will quit Geneva Convention
MICHAEL Howard, the Conservative leader, was attacked from left and right yesterday after promising to take Britain out of a United Nations convention on refugees as part of his attempt to toughen his party's stance on immigration. As immigrant groups accused Mr Howard of trying to stir up fear over asylum seekers, the UK Independence Party said the Tory leader was trying to steal its ideas in a bid to shore up his party's flagging support. In a speech in London, Mr Howard called for parliament to set a single quota for all forms of immigration, including economic migration, family members joining British residents, and places available for people claiming political asylum.

Challenging Labour's assumptions that increased immigration will help fuel economic growth - and ignoring Scotland's particular need for immigration to offset a shrinking workforce - Mr Howard also sounded a sceptical note on the monetary benefits of immigration. But it was his pledge to withdraw from the 1951 UN convention on the treatment of refugees that caused the most controversy. The accord, part of the Geneva Convention, obliges signatories to give shelter to people fleeing persecution, and prohibits deporting would-be immigrants to nations where they could be at risk. Describing the UN convention as outdated, Mr Howard said that the current rules have helped to create an international people-smuggling industry. "Genuine refugees will be welcomed, but those who are not will be swiftly removed. This will immediately deter people from falsely claiming asylum in Britain - significantly reducing the numbers."

China-Japan-Koreas
China's new submarines caught U.S. intelligence off guard

Special to World Tribune.com
EAST-ASIA-INTEL.COM
Wednesday, September 22nd, 2004

China is building a new deep-water submarine port at Qingdao, Shandong Province, along the northern coast, according to the Chinese newspaper Qingdao Zaobao.

China surprised U.S. intelligence several months ago by showcasing a new class of attack submarines at the Wuhan shipyard. The submarine has been dubbed the Yuan-class submarine.

The disclosure highlighted a failure of U.S. intelligence, which until that time believed that it had adequately monitored China's naval buildup.

China believes that submarines and guided missile warships will be the centerpiece of its military buildup, along with large numbers of ballistic and cruise missiles. Beijing wants the port to be part of its maritime strategy for controlling waters near its coast.

According to the report, the port also will be used for underwater research, specifically the search for oil and gas resources needed by China.

French Prime Minister on Turkey EU Membership: "Maybe Later"
Raffarin fears 'river of Islam' from early Turkey membership of EU

PARIS, Sept 23 (AFP) - French Prime Minister Jean-Pierre Raffarin reiterated France's support for Turkey's eventual membership of the European Union but warned Ankara might not yet be ready to accept Western values, in an interview published Thursday in the Wall Street Journal Europe.

"We don't think we should tell Turkey that the doors of Europe are forever closed to it," Raffarin told the newspaper, but then said: "Do we want the river of Islam to enter the riverbed of secularism?"

RTHT; I have to say, just as a quick comment, that it's one of the most passive-aggressive and bureaucratic versions of the word "never" I've ever seen.

#1  This doesn't mean anything. One passage in the article stands out: "Enlargement Commissioner Guenter Verheugen said there were 'no more obstacles' for Turkey on its path towards opening accession talks."

Accession talks. No guarantees, promises, or votes, just talks. In the meantime, Chirac and Co. will simply find something else with which to use as a reason to object to a potential Turkey EU membership.

I thought you believed the EU was a *bad* thing?

Does that mean you are wishing a bad thing to happen to Turkey, or is somehow EU a good thing in Turkey's case even if it's a bad thing in general?

*g* Or is it *Turkey* that's the bad thing, and you're simply wishing two bad things to happen to each other? ;-)

40,000 is the magic number
"...Regarding Kerry's scare tactic of saying Bush will bring back the draft, it strikes me as being rather unusual considering Kerry is the one who has been promising to increase active duty troops by 40,000. How does he expect to do that?..." ...It seems like 40,000 just became the magic number for the Democrats. Richard Holbrooke, Clinton's ambassador to the UN, just told O'Reilly that at least 40,000 more troops are needed in Iraq and that "means a call-up." Where are the Democrats getting this number? It's not based on a military analysis or facts on the ground at all. Instead, the campaign chose a number that sounded large enough to demand a draft. Now, it's altogether possible that Holbrooke meant a call up of the reservists or guard, but the implication was a call-up of the draft...
(Keep an eye on who else repeats the "40,000" meme.) This implies the following democrat campaign slant: "If the US remains in Iraq, it will require a military draft that Bush will want, but we don't. However, if we *must* (the people demand it or something) remain in Iraq, then we *must* have a draft, even though Kerry promised that we wouldn't. It would be the 'leadership' thing for him to do."

#2  The only thing that has to be done to expand the size of our armed forces is for Congress to authorize the increased recruitment and expenditure.

From the end of the Vietnam War (and the draft) in the early 70's until the Soviet Union went tits-up in 1989, we had no trouble at all maintaining military manpower at 160% of what it is today, WITHOUT ANY DRAFT.

Sumner Redstone says appropriate {Knuckle Crack} consequences...
Redstone Vows 'Appropriate' Consequences For CBS News
Stewart Pinkerton, 09.23.04, 2:45 AM ET
Here's one breaking story that Dan Rather will be watching closely. Reacting to the document scandal at CBS News, Sumner M. Redstone, chairman and chief executive of Viacom, CBS' parent, vowed that the results of a recently announced probe would be "appropriate--and the consequences will be appropriate."
But, of course none of Saddahm's plastic shredders are available, so we can just fire their fat asses...
Speaking before the Forbes Global CEO Conference here, Redstone told delegates he has been "very concerned" about a Sept. 8, 2004, 60 Minutes story reported by Rather that suggested lapses in President George W. Bush's military record. CBS has since conceded that the documents on which the story was based could not be authenticated. Rather has apologized, and CBS News has said the story was a mistake.
Stock prices have been dropping...
...Commenting on the upcoming U.S. presidential election, Redstone said that while Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) was a "nice guy," the re-election of President Bush would be best for Viacom's interests, since the Administration backed deregulation and other issues that would help the company.
Interesting...Sounds like "please don't procecute us over the actions of a senile old anchorman, and his rabid leftist producer aide"

#6  Jarhead:

This site gives a nice, succinct account of President Bush’s honorable service, providing hours and points accumulated, dates and eye witness accounts (all in about two pages). For more in depth research, the site also has links to supporting documents and eye witness accounts.

For the sKerry John, this link highlights serious inconsistencies and problems in his “war story” and this link highlights serious problems with sKerry John's treasonous actions following his “war story” time in Vietnam.

Hope it helps.

John Kerry: Antiwar Activist
Posted by: ed || 09/23/2004 03:48 || Comments || Link || [1 views] Top|| File under:

#1
At a November 1971 meeting in Kansas City of the leaders of Vietnam Veterans Against the War, one Scott Camil proposed "Operation Phoenix" — a plan to assassinate the leading pro-war members of the U.S. Senate. The group adjourned to a secret location to debate the assassination plan, and ultimately voted it down.

John Kerry originally claimed that he resigned from VVAW's executive committee two days before that meeting, and has denied attending. But contemporaneous FBI surveillance records place Kerry in Kansas City, and a number of witnesses — including the head of Kerry's campaign in Missouri, Randy Barnes — have said that Kerry attended the Kansas City meeting and argued against the assassination plan. (Thomas Lipscomb broke this story in the New York Sun this spring.)

Why has Kerry been unable to point to any evidence that he resigned from VVAW prior to the Kansas City meeting? If Kerry was there, why didn't he tell the authorities that some members were plotting political assassinations?

=========

Surely the VVAW recorded the minutes of this secret meeting to assassinate US Senators. Kerry should be able to publicly provide those minutes to prove that he did not attend the meeting. His failure to do so is extremely suspicious.

I think we should ask Mr. Ngo and some other Vietnamese refugees for their opinions about Kerry's failure to provide this proof!

That author of that article asked some Vietnamese refugees two questions:

What do you think of John Kerry's statements that Vietnam would be a utopia if US forces withdrew?

What do you think of John Kerry 'sstatements that US troops systematically committed atrocities in Vietnam?

Mr. Ngo and the other refugees said that based on their own personal experiences in Vietnam, John Kerry's statements were wrong.

That was a piece of lazy, silly journalism, and I pointed it out. (Just as today I pointed out the lazy, silly journalism in relationship to Kofi Annan's "statements".)

#4  Okay, so your not pissed at Ngo but rather (no pun intended) your trying to be sarcastic wrt the lazy journalist as you say?

Two statements about Kerry:

1) IF he did make a statement that utopia was at hand if the commies were in charge then history proved Mr.Ngo correct and he states this as his experience - I don't see that as bad journalism. Though painfully obvious.

2) Besides the extreme case of the my lai massacre and a few other incidents there wasn't any "systematic attrocities" committed by U.S. troops. If Mr.Ngo as a 'nam refugee says he didn't see any how is this a case of bad journalism.

Seems to me there are bigger things to get your panties in a bunch about.

#5  That was a piece of lazy, silly journalism, and I pointed it out. (Just as today I pointed out the lazy, silly journalism in relationship to Kofi Annan's "statements".)

Part of being a good journalist is also to write so your readers can understand the thrust of your work (as part of an editor's job is to make sure that little 'thing' happens).

Sarcasm by itself doesn't necessarily translate well. May I most humbly suggest that, when you are annoyed with silly, lazy journalism, you simply state that or add a follow-up explanation along with your comment?

#5  I am still waiting for a response to an email I sent to CBS News and 60 minutes. I ask them to show the public the ‘preponderance of evidence’ that shows Lt Bush shirked his Guard duty. I reminded them that after five years of investigation they have hearsay and forged documents. Either Mary Mapes is THE most inept investigative reporter (quite possible) in the world or the story (Bush shirked his duty) is not true. Helen is just feeding off the urban that was started way back when Bush ran for Governor of Texas. The LLL thinks that the reason the story has never been proven is because of the Vast Right-Wing Conspiracy has done an effective cover-up. They only way around this was to ‘find’ documents of an officer that couldn’t contradict their story. I was in the Military and we LOATHE someone who gets preferential treatment. If Lt Bush got preferential treatment or shirked his duties, there would have been hundreds of people lining up against him. Kind of like the Swiftees! ;-)

#6  Sarge, I believe the question that needs to be answered is did he or did he not complete the points requirement for guard duty each year of his service. I believe the records show he did. I believe he needed 50 points a year from 1968 to 1972 - and I believe from what I've read & heard on the radio that he exceeded those points requirements each year to include the year he was in 'bama. To me that means case closed, let's move on to some real issues.

#8  Jarhead, that's my point! They are trying to prove an urban legend. ANY rational person would have concluded long ago that Bush completed his service and was honorably discharged. These LLL and Mary Mapes in particular are hell bent on finding something that simply isn't there. They can't possibly fathom that dumb old Bush flew fighter jets and by all acounts was a good pilot. They are looking for a chink in that service so they could exploit it. My contention is that if the story had an ounce of truth they would have had no problem finding a LIVING guard member to confirm this. Other than the now discredited Burkett they have nothing.
Posted by: Cyber Sarge || 09/23/2004 12:08 Comments || Top||

#9  I hear ya Sarge, the swiftees is a good analogy because there you got over 50 highly decorated guys saying one guy is a fraud - pretty damming for anyone who has had anything to do w/the mil. I know people talk about Kerry's crewmates, but let's be honest, if you look at how many of them we're only on Kerry's boat for a few days to a few weeks you see the fallacies. That green beret he pulled out of the drink was only on his boat a day and the msm tried to make him out to be a kerry crewmate (hello susan estrich you stupid b*tch) who knew Kerry's life story or some such. I find it devastating that 50 different highly decorated officers and senior enlisted men call kerry a sham. If you can get 6 different folks to agree shit stinks it's a miracle. A lot of folks don't like the swiftees but I don't care, they only confirmed for me what I had a hunch on when all this started.

#11  Sarge, here's a copy of my email to CBS:

"I'm very disappointed in the FCC's ruling that CBS be fined $550,000 for the Janet Jackson episode. I think CBS is blameless in this and the fine far out weighs the putative damage done.

On the other hand it's pretty obvious that you weren't duped on the forged Bush National Guard documents; you were caught. It's pretty clear from the behavior of CBS, before and during the fiasco, that the story was pursued, not because it was thought to be true, but because you wanted it to be true. You have lost any claim to being a fair reporter of the news and for that you should lose your license. At a minimum, any news broadcast you present should have a crawl at the bottom of the screen that says "CBS news has been shown to be biased and unreliable".

And no, I'm not a Republican, neo-con or any of the other labels you have chosen not to represent with your biases".

Likewise, no response.......
Posted by: Anonymous6612 || 09/23/2004 14:53 Comments || Top||

#12  Nice Email! But I am a card-carrying religious NeoCon so whatever I send them is just dismissed as such. I bet they didn’t have one officer from bush’s squadron review those documents. They (better than anyone else) would know how he served and if he was given special treatment as is claimed. Unfortunately (for CBS), there are no former officers that will confirm their fantasy or even something close to it. So they had to find someone outside the unit, like Mr. Burkett. Notice I will not address the 86-year-old former typist who claims that she was confided by the Commander as to certain personnel decisions or concerns. As a matter of fact when they did talk to anyone who served with or flew with they got nothing but glowing appraisals of Lt Bush. Now Jarhead will have to back me up on this but if you have a slacker in your unit, EVERYONE is aware of that slacker. And if that person professes to be something they are not, EVERYONE will pounce and denounce their story. You have a PRIME example of this theory with the Swiftees.

The other 50 or so makes up for that in my mind. I think the fact that the dems cannot find one legit person to contradict the prez is damming. And an 86 year old lady who was not even the personal secretary of Killian (that's right from the son's mouth) can say with certainty that she didn't type the documents but are sure they reflect the Commanding Officer's thoughts at the time is just too pathetic. Man, what a laugh.

#9  Next we need to pass a voter ID law. Prove your citizenship BEFORE you get to vote. Also make ENGLISH the official Language. All official business should be done in ENGLISH. Pandering to different languages invites abuse from illegal immigants (they are NOT 'undocumented aliens'). #14  The illegals tend to congregate in cities where they are welcomed and not hassled. In the main, these cities provide “bennies” of all kinds for no reason other than they are demanded. As the demand for freebies rise, the out of pocket hit to legal residents goes up.

Now, I have no problem with helping someone out who's down on their luck. But at the same time, as long as they are on the dole, I believe they should not be in a position to "vote" themselves a raise, by supporting politicians who buy their vote, to retain political power.

At some point the taxpayers should rebel and demand a change. If not, they deserve exactly what they get.

#21  No, no need to make English the "official" language. I don't have any problem with people speaking whatever language they want, so long as they're Americans (and Arnie's definition, from his RNC speech, works fine for me). Everyone should speak English, as it's the way to get ahead in this country, but if you want to sit on the front stoop and jabber away in Polish, Spanish or Hmong, it's no skin off my fore.

Motor Voter is a travesty and should be repealed. You want to register to vote? Picture ID and a proof of citizenship, thankyee. You want a drivers license? Second, "Y'all want to be able to retire someday, don't you?", I'm not banking on social security on the backs of immigrants to provide me this, Lex. My investments in IRA's, TSPs, and hard work will ensure that happens. Along w/20 yrs of mil service and not spending my cash like some damn fool and going so far in debt I can't get out of it. Also, beware of the law of unitntended consequences when pulling in a high-birthrate non-assimilated populace for the sake of staving off a supposed demographic catastrophe - the American culture we like now may not be what our grandchildren will experience.

#28  the American culture we like now may not be what our grandchildren will experience

Aside from the part about what "we like", I agree totally with the above. Without question this nation will cease to be Eurocentric within another generation or two-- certainly not demographically or politically, perhaps not culturally either. But I don't see us scrapping our Enlightenment heritage, by any stretch.

Let's hope the dominant non-European influence is Asian rather than Mexican. Seems to be headed that way. The young turks on Wall Street and in Silicon Valley already are about one-third asian-american, and State and CIA and Congress will reflect this shift as well in another generation.

Posted by: lex || 09/23/2004 18:54 Comments || Top||

#29  I'm not banking on social security on the backs of immigrants to provide me [retirement income], Lex. My investments in IRA's, TSPs, and hard work will ensure that happens.

Still the same ultimate source. Stock prices for Dell and WalMart and HomeDepot and Citigroup etc will rise only if there's growing demand for their products, which, Asian demand notwithstanding, remains overwhelmingly domestic in nature. And domestic demand growth depends on population growth among young, high birthrate immigrants and their children. Go toa BestBuy this weekend and do a quick count of the relative number of white and non-white consumers there. If you live anywhere outside of the Great Plains, I'd bet your tallies come out 50-50.

So regardless of the form your savings and investment plan takes, its health is still heavily dependent on continued high population, ie immigration, growth. btw This is another reason our domestic economy is bouyant while Europe's sucks.... bless the immigrants-- they're America's secret economic weapon. BUT DON't TELL THE EUROS!!! DESTROY THIS POST

#30  lex: Let's hope the dominant non-European influence is Asian rather than Mexican.

Can't agree with you there. Oriental girls are lovely, but. The big but is that Mexicans can assimilate much easier because they are basically Americans with a Spanish accent. We need to weed out the illegals, but Hispanics of all backgrounds are well-represented in the military and can be counted upon to be loyal to this country. How often do you hear of Hispanics spying against this country, relative to their numbers? Compare that to the number of Asians involved in the same activity, and it is clear that Hispanics are in the long run better for this country. A lot of Asians come here with chips the size of cinder blocks on their shoulders about racial superiority and a bunch of other nonsense. Hispanics believe in assimilation. Not so with Asians, who seem to think they can carve out a colony in these United States.

Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi has made his pitch for Japan to become a permanent member of the Security Council, teaming up with other aspirants Germany, India and Brazil to press for an expansion of the U.N.'s top body. "We believe that the role that Japan has played provides a solid basis for its assumption of permanent membership on the Security Council," Koizumi said in an address to the annual General Assembly session in New York City Tuesday.

Japan has been pressing for a permanent seat since 1993, but Koizumi has made it a key policy goal. Next year marks the U.N.'s 60th anniversary, and officials in Tokyo are hoping the momentum for reform may benefit Japan's bid for membership. Second only to the U.S., Japan provides 19.5 percent of the U.N.'s budget, contributing almost 20 times more than permanent members China and Russia. It also argues that as the only country to have sustained a nuclear attack, it would bring a unique perspective to a body all of whose current permanent members are nuclear powers. Of those permanent members, the U.S., Britain and France reportedly have voiced support for Japan's bid, while China opposes it. Russia's stance remains unclear.

#1  Yep, they can have France's seat, no problem. Taiwan's ouster is the basis for this swap. What goes around, comes around.

#2  AMEN DON! Why for gods sake is France on the Security council? They can't and don't provide security of any kind. Nor do they have the power or economic power to back up any 'security measure' they propose. France OUT, Japan IN!

#3  yes they should get frances seat..the EU should only have one seat..anyways the only reason the frogs have a seat is because of truman not because they were a victor in the wwii as the other 4...

and japan is beginning to stand up and take responsibilities that equals their economic clout...

#4  Just ignore the UNSC and replace it with a new collective security group that would meet regularly in New York to address real security issues with an eye toward actually resolving them. Should include US-Japan-China-India-Russia-South Korea-Indonesia-Australia, also Uk-Fr-Ger, maybe Turkey and Brazil as well.

#5  Japan pays for 20% of the UN's budget. Without more say in the UN, let Japan pay proportionate to it's population, about 2%. The US and Japan alone pay for 45% of the UN. Take our people and money and let us form the core of a free, democratic, and uncorrupt association. Let the UN formally announce what it already is, a dictator's sinecure club. Away with you, and trouble us no more.

Southeast Asia
Some good news
The apparent landslide victory of "S.B.Y." (Gen. Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono) in the Indonesian presidential election is promising. He has a reputation for getting things done; he has no time for Indonesia's Jihadis. He knows that free enterprise within a stable constitutional order is the way out of membership in the "Third World". And he says what he knows, with an uncommon boldness. He is intelligent and articulate (in English as well as Indonesian), and surrounded by advisers who are neither obsequious nor sanctimonious nor infamously corrupt.

Outgoing President Megawati Sukarnoputri, the daughter of the country's founding dictator, had none of these qualities. She presided like a constitutional monarch. She is not an especially bad person, but in three years as the country's first fully freely-elected leader, proved frankly incompetent, dithering, obtuse. The margin of victory for the challenger in the run-off, at more than 60:40 (the full formal count will take some more days), gives the budding, huge Indonesian democracy a fresh start after several false ones.

As President Megawati's sometime security minister, S.B.Y. was the only cabinet member who said unambiguously that the terrorist Jemaah Islamiyah needs eliminating, not negotiating with. He was the only one who seemed to grasp that the endless underpublicized terror attacks on Indonesia's Christians were bad news not only for them, but for the whole country.

President-elect Yudhoyono wants to restore full military co-operation with the U.S. The leftist "human rights" gallery will hate him, as they hate all pro-Western generals; but this graduate of Fort Benning and Fort Leavenworth stood up against corruption under the Suharto regime. He is clean, competent, and energized. From the U.S. point of view, his election might be considered the equivalent of one free, $500-billion invasion.

#2  Wind traps, anyone? (grin)

Seriously, if I recall correctly, the Zepplins of WW I and the 20s-30s had condensers of some sort in the exhaust systems to recover the water. The reason was to make up the weight lost by fuel consumption.

I'm curious to see if the ehxhaust water system winds up being widely used. It would be perfect for any mech/cav/armor/maintenance uint. For a HQ, just stick them on the 30kW gensets.

Getting potable water out in the field is not just a problem for desert deployments. I have memories of supply run screw ups at Ft. Stewart going thru my head, and the exhaust system described would have been useful for a mech unit like mine.

Adding on a water chiller for those hot days in coastal Geogia would just ice the cake!

#3  Think long term; if either of these ideas work - and if commercialized they could provide water for people living in desert areas - it'd be ironic if 100 years from now the Iraqi war was remembered mainly for the invention of water traps.....
