Disney suspends political giving in Florida after ‘Don’t say gay’ bill outrage
Senior management are paid the big bucks on the assumption that they have deeper insight and better strategic thinking than us lesser-paid peons. The bill says not for ages pre-K to grade 3, and thereafter in age-appropriate terms. Don’t Say Gay is false othering propaganda of the vilest, most desperate sort, and it bodes poorly for the company’s profitability that these people are at the helm.
[IsraelTimes] Entertainment and theme park giant Disney has halted all political donations in Florida after an outcry among LGBTQ staff over its silence on perceived "anti-gay" legislation, its CEO says.

Florida’s State Senate this week passed a bill banning lessons on sexual orientation and gender identity in elementary schools, the latest effort by Republicans in the United States to reshape education policy along conservative lines.

Opponents and LGBTQ rights activists lobbied against what they call the "Don’t Say Gay" law, which will affect kids in kindergarten through third grade, when they are eight or nine years old.

Disney, which has a huge presence in the southern state in the form of its Walt Disney World resort, had faced weeks of criticism both internally and externally over its lack of public response.

Chief executive Bob Chapek says he is sorry the company let down its staff, which protested the bill.

"It is clear that this is not just an issue about a bill in Florida, but instead yet another challenge to basic human rights
...which are often intentionally defined so widely as to be meaningless...
," he writes in an email, published by Variety.

"You needed me to be a stronger ally in the fight for equal rights and I let you down. I am sorry."
Resign, then, pederast enabler
Chapek says Disney would be bolstering its support for campaigns aimed at preventing similar legislation in other states, as part of an effort to "ensure our advocacy better reflects our values."

"And today, we are pausing all political donations in the state of Florida pending this review."

Chapek says the company had to do more, but insisted he had the backs of sexual minority staff.

They have unique legal arrangements there, some of the land was purchased with some interesting riders attached (legend is an Ivy League school is still waiting for Disney to drill for oil), and they've built infrastructure that rivals most cities.

They have their own water treatment, natural gas, and electrical systems, drainage/flood control, and even an area dedicated to safe storage of explosives (for fireworks).

There's an entire office building buried underneath the Magic Kingdom park -- and that structure alone qualifies as a wonder of the modern world.

VP Harris Heads to Romania as Ukraine Refugee Crisis Grows
[An Nahar] Vice President Kámala Harris
Former Oakland mayor Willie Brown's former mistress, now a senatrix from California former 2020 Dem presidential hopeful, and Joe Biden's wing nut...
and Romania's president will meet Friday to discuss growing concerns about the influx of displaced people fleeing Ukraine for Romania and elsewhere in eastern Europa
...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
due to Russia's invasion.
"I am happy to be here in Romainia. I love your lettuce"
It's a problem that Biden administration officials and European leaders warn will likely get more complicated in the days and weeks ahead.

Harris' talks in Bucharest with President Klaus Iohannis come after she spent Thursday in Poland, which has already welcomed some 1.5 million Ukrainians since the invasion began. She met in Warsaw with Polish President Andrzej Duda and Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, Ukrainian refugees, and others in hopes of getting a fuller picture of the unfolding humanitarian crisis.

The southeastern European country of Romania — a nation of about 19 million — had taken in more 84,000 displaced people as of Tuesday, according to United Nations
...an organization conceived in the belief that we're just one big happy world, with the sort of results you'd expect from such nonsense...
data. Other countries on NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. A single organization with differing goals, equipment, language, doctrine, and structure....
's eastern flank, including Hungary, Moldova and Slovakia, have also welcomed tens of thousands of refugees.

Harris said the U.S. was "absolutely prepared" to support those "who understand the moral obligation we should feel to help people who are fleeing harm and seeking refuge; the burden we should all be prepared to take on to support those people who are fleeing their home when they don't want to leave."

Duda, in a presser with Harris, said Polish leaders are "aware that the problem is growing and that this problem is increasing."

"We have to somehow handle it, and we do not have the experience," he said.

Overall, more than 2.3 million people have fled Ukraine since the start of the war. And the number of displaced people continues to grow daily. The United Nations warns that up to 5 million people could flee Ukraine. That would make it the biggest humanitarian crisis in Europe since World War II.

Duda said he had asked Harris to relay to President Joe The Big Guy Biden
...46th president of the U.S. Sleazy Dem mschine politician, paterfamilias of the Biden Crime Family...
that Poland would like to see expedited visa procedures for Ukrainians who have family living the United States so that they could resettle in the U.S. at least temporarily.

Harris said most refugees who have fled Ukraine prefer to remain in Europe. Earlier this month, the administration offered humanitarian relief to Ukrainians in the United States, which could protect thousands from being deported to their war-torn homeland. Ukrainians already in the U.S. would be able to stay in the U.S. for up to 18 months under the federal program known as Temporary Protected Status.

The Pentagon announced last month it was deploying a Stryker squadron of about 1,000 additional soldiers to Romania, a NATO member, as the Biden administration looks to bolster the military alliance's presence on NATO's eastern flank.

U.S. officials remain concerned about Romania's vulnerability in the midst of Russian activity in the Black Sea.

Before departing Warsaw for Romania on Friday, Harris was scheduled to visit with U.S. and Polish troops

Treasury secretary warns of 'very uncomfortably high' inflation for next year
[WASHINGTONTIMES] Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen warned that Americans should expect to continue paying increased prices on everyday goods for the next year, offering a reversal from her previous forecast that record-high inflation would soon subside.

The main culprit, she told CNBC’s "Closing Bell" on Thursday, was Russia’s war against Ukraine.

Ms. Yellen’s claim that Russian President Vladimir Putin
...President-for-Life of Russia. He gets along well with other presidents for life. He is credited with bringing political stability and re-establishing something like the rule of law, which occasionally results in somebody dropping dead from poisoning by polonium or other interesting substance. Under Putin, a new group of business magnates controlling significant swathes of Russia's economy has emerged, all of whom have close personal ties to him. The old bunch, without close personal ties to Putin, are in jail or in exile or dead from poisoning by polonium or other interesting substances...
is to blame for America’s inflation woes echoes that of the Biden administration writ large, which has received criticism for dubbing the phrase "Putin’s price hike."

"I think there’s a lot of uncertainty that is related to what’s going on with Russia in Ukraine," Ms. Yellen said on the network. "And I do think that it’s exacerbating inflation."

"We’re likely to see another year in which 12-month inflation numbers remain very uncomfortably high," she added.

Ms. Yellen predicted earlier this year that inflation would be close to 2% by year’s end. But that forecast has quickly changed in the wake of bleak Labor Department reports showing persistent inflation.

New statistics from the department released Thursday showed that consumer prices rose 7.9% compared to one year ago ending in February, marking the highest increase since the early 1980s.

#10  CAUTION:

On my home from Depot this morning, I looked at gas gauge on the truck. It read between a third and half-full. Bad weather and daily price increases, so I pulled into the Ingles grocery where I buy the non-ethanol gas. Put the nozzle on 'auto' and it began filling slowly. It pumped and pumped and pumped. Finally stopped on 23.329 gallons ($102.69).

23.329 gallons in a 26 gallon tank, that was 1/3 to 1/2 full? I never go anywhere on empty, so WTF... over ?

I took a picture of the pump reading and went inside to discuss with the manager. I calmly explained what had just taken place and showed him the foto. I saw my efforts were going nowhere. He offered to provide papers to send to corporate. Again calmly, I told him I wasn't new to pumping gas, had been doing it for 60 years. Little sympathy and no help.

Just something to watch.
Posted by: Besoeker || 03/12/2022 9:58 Comments || Top||

#11  Within weeks of moving to Florida four years ago, all three of my credit cards had fraud activity, the common denominator: using the cards at gas stations. I have not used a credit card to buy gas since then, haven't had a fraud issue since then either (knock wood). I look at my gas gauge, check the price at the pump and pre-pay cash for the amount I estimate I need to fill up. It's become sort of a game to see how close to topped off I could estimate without having to go back inside to collect any overage.

Related but not the same as B's point, my John Deere tractor developed a tank sender issue where the lowest the fuel gauge ever got was 1/2 full. i learned not to get caught a long walk back to the barn for a jerry-can.

Use this. Then compare.

Of course this little appliance we are typing on didn't exist in its present can relatively cheap form. Neither did a lot of technology we commonly use today. So no matter how much silver or gold you had you couldn't get it.

Not saying good or bad, just saying this is interesting.

#23  John Cochrane of Stanford sums it up - it's worth getting Cochrane's "Grumpy Economist" newsletter btw:

Prof. John Cochrane traces the present inflation to the pandemic and the government’s response. Starting in March 2020, “the Treasury issued $3 trillion of new debt, which the Fed quickly bought in return for $3 trillion of new reserves.” The Treasury then sent checks to people and businesses, later borrowing another $2 trillion and sending more checks. Overall federal debt rose nearly 30%. “Is it at all a surprise,” Mr. Cochrane asks, “that a year later inflation breaks out?”

...dictatorial for repealing some (but not all) of the diktats of his predecessor, misogynistic because he likes pretty girls, homophobic because he doesn't think gender bending should be mandatory, truly a man for all seasons......
brought up the idea that noncitizens were casting ballots in elections, the reaction was fast and furious. Such a thing, if it exists at all, is exceedingly rare, we were told. But when one state decided to take a close look, it found something quite different.

After a yearlong voter-fraud probe, Texas discovered that, lo and behold, 95,000 people identified as noncitizens had voter registrations. What's more, 58,000 of them voted in one or more Texas elections.
Roughly two thirds. Not exactly chicken feed.
When Attorney General Ken Paxton led the state's investigation, he noted that Texas had already found 165 noncitizens in four counties who had cast 100 illegal votes in two years.

More recently, Pennsylvania officials said they found more than 11,000 noncitizens registered to vote in that state.

Of course, if you're not looking for evidence of noncitizens voting, you're not likely to find any. And it turns out that, for the most part, nobody's looking very hard.

Because whenever anyone does look, what they find, as Texas did, is plenty of evidence that people who aren't U.S. citizens are casting ballots.

After the 2016 elections, Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted found 821 noncitizens registered to vote in that state, of whom 126 had voted in 2016 or earlier elections. A 2013 analysis of voter registration by an outside group — not the state government — found 1,046 noncitizens registered in Virginia. A 2011 study found 12,000 noncitizens registered to vote in Colorado, 5,000 of whom did so in the 2010 midterm elections.

NOT WIDESPREAD ENOUGH?
Amazingly, the entire "only citizens can register to vote" protection is largely based on the honor system. Even in Texas, the state "does not require verification of a voter's statement that they are a citizen," noted AG Paxton.

Now, after claiming this problem didn't exist at all, the left says it doesn't matter because it's not "widespread." But this is a clever dodge. Election fraud doesn't have to be widespread to be effective. In fact, the very purpose of election fraud is to flip extremely close elections. That doesn't take widespread voter fraud, just carefully targeted efforts.

In the 2008 election in Minnesota, the now-disgraced Al Franken won by a tiny 312 vote margin. His victory gave Senate Democrats a filibuster-proof majority, which let them pass ObamaCare. One study found that noncitizen voting in the election could have decided the outcome.

The 2018 midterms featured an unusually large number of races decided by a relative handful of votes.

What's more, noncitizens voting is only one of the ways that ballot integrity is being eroded, mainly by efforts on the left to making voting "easier."

As the Texas AG points out, there are also concerns about "mail-in ballot application fraud, unlawful influencing of voters, (and) unlawful mail ballot collection by vote harvesters."
