-Short Attention Span Theater-
US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo arrives at secretive Bilderberg conference in Switzerland despite NOT being on the guestlist as Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner is also due to attend
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news]
  • More than a hundred dignitaries from 23 countries are attending conference

  • Bankers, Prime Ministers and CEOs will discuss topics under strict secrecy

  • Talking points include Russia, Brexit and the weaponisation of social media

  • The meeting of the rich and powerful attracts protest and conspiracy theories

  • Mike Pompeo was not on the guestlist but arrived today with Jared Kushner
The Secretary of State of the United States of America is a good deal more powerful than many heads of state in terms of the impact of his decisions on the world at large. If he is not on the guest list it ought to be because he had not RSVPd, not because some junior Praetorian decided in a moment of overweening pride not to send out his beautifully engraved invitation.

Dallas News Pulls the Plug on Beto
House editorial.
[Dallas News] The trouble with presenting oneself as a unity candidate is that, eventually, you will have to deliver something that looks unifying.

But as we review Beto O'Rourke's plan for overhauling the nation's immigration system, we struggle to find anything to support his claims toward unity.

O'Rourke
Robert O'Rourke - The Micksican
earned our recommendation for U.S. Senate because he set a political tone that promised to pull us away from the bitter partisanship too eagerly embraced by Sen. Ted Cruz.

The country has had enough of endless political warfare, and we were hopeful that O'Rourke might be a candidate with the kind of courage to lead us toward compromise and comity.
Along with Hillary, of course.
What we have seen of presidential candidate O'Rourke suggests that might not come to be.

We find little true compromise on the major issues in O'Rourke's immigration reform plan. The nine-page memo is passionate in its defense of immigrants, unflinching in its attack on the border wall, and hazy in its alternatives for border security. While we understand O'Rourke must work to stand out among the packed bench of the primary, he has come this far on a platform that suggested a meeting in the middle that this major policy proposal belies.
Belies: editorialese for 'to give a false impression'
In his presidential immigration plan, we see the worst traits of O'Rourke's candidacy for Senate laid bare. In debates with Cruz, O'Rourke avoided specificity in favor of gestures of unity ‐ gestures that were never finally backed up with unifying policy.
All hat and no cattle?
His immigration plan departs from serious proposals Congress has grappled with that would see increased security as a trade-off for paths to citizenship for unauthorized immigrants. His nod to security is to increase staffing and "modernize" our ports.

We applaud O'Rourke's compassionate stance toward people brought here as children, as well as his overall humanitarian approach to immigration. We wish it would more plainly acknowledge the need for security.
Security? On the southern border? When the Dallas homicide rate is nearly triple what it was a year ago?
Through his rhetoric, President Donald Trump has marked "the wall" as a battle line. But O'Rourke cannot dismiss the need for securing the border without alienating many of the Republicans he would claim to seek common ground with.
TW - what about ending a sentence with a preposition?
I don’t actually have a problem with that in theory, Bobby dear — that’s one of those over-punctilious rules they came up with when certain people tried to force Latin grammar onto English instead of realizing they were dealing Germanic separable verbs. But in this case the entire sentence is awkward, containing as it does both without and with. Were I editing I would send it back to be rewritten.
A true unity candidate will find a way to be honest with his own party that compromise is on the table.
Compromise ain't on the table. Yet.

Economy
Orange Man Tariff Bad
[Global News] Which credits Canadian Press, but seems identical to the AP report, which I saw in the Dallas News. Lotta cuttin' and pastin' goin' on.
Despite pushback from U.S. business, Mexico and Capitol Hill, U.S. President Donald Trump is doubling down on his threat to slap a 5 per cent tariff on Mexican imports unless America’s southern neighbor cracks down on Central American migrants trying to cross the U.S. border.

U.S. manufacturers said the tariff, set to take effect June 10, would have devastating consequences on them and American consumers. U.S. stocks tumbled on Wall Street in response to Trump’s planned action.

Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador dispatched his foreign secretary to Washington to try to negotiate a solution. He said social problems are not solved with coercive measures, but also seemed convinced that Trump just needed to be informed about all the steps Mexico has taken to slow illegal migration.
1,000 illegals a day is 3.65 million per year.
Mexico has stepped up raids on migrant caravans traveling through the southern states of Chiapas and Oaxaca this year. It has deported thousands of migrants and frustrated thousands more who wait endlessly for permits that would allow them to travel legally through Mexico.

Trump's decision showed the administration going to new lengths, and looking for new levers, to pressure Mexico to take action ‐ even if those risk upending other policy priorities, like the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement, a trade deal that is the cornerstone of Trump's legislative agenda and seen as beneficial to his reelection effort.

Keeping the economy rolling also is critical to Trump's reelection, and business was not happy with the president's planned tariff on Mexican imports.
Lots more hand-wringing at the link.

Does seem a bit obvious, don't it? Not about trade at all.

Economy
Students, Here's A Plan To Solve Your Debt Problem
A taste:
[TOWNHALL] So, you’re a barista with a problem ‐ you took out $200K student loans to get that master’s degree from Gumbo State in "LGBTQ2#v& Experiences as Reflected in 17th Century Bolivian Folk Songs" and now you can't find an uncaffeinated career. Worse, those fascist monsters who you took money from based on your agreement to pay it back with interest now expect you to pay the money back with interest despite the fact that you really don't feel like it anymore.

Well, I have a fresh solution to this crisis.

It's an innovative strategy that totally and permanently resolves this problem in a new and exciting way.

Ready?

Here goes.

How about you pay your own student debt?

That's it. It's as elegant as it is simple. You. Pay. Your. Own. Debts.

If you follow this bold, one-step program ‐ the one step is you paying your debts - then you will eventually be debt-free. And best of all, I won't have to pay any of your debts.

See, a lot of Democrat politicians are promising "free college," but what they really mean is "free for you." Someone has to pay, and that someone is me, and I need to level with you.

I am not interested in paying for your college.

Now, some may call me "greedy" or "selfish" for not wishing to work and then have the money I earned taken from me to provide things to you that you want but did not pay for instead of being able to spend it ‐ the "it" being the money I earned ‐ on things that I want. I am okay with that. I would much prefer having people who fundamentally misunderstand the concepts of greed and selfishness call me "greedy" and "selfish" than subsidize their educations, educations that evidently did not include learning about basic concepts like greed and selfishness.

I understand that your priorities for my money may differ from mine, but it being my money, my priorities should take precedence. Here is a short, partial list of things that I prioritize for my money over paying off your student loan debts:

1. A lease on a sweet German sedan

2. A delicious tri-tip sandwich

3. A walk-in humidor

4. Guns and ammo

5. A pedicure for my wife

6. A pedicure for me

7. A pedicure for my fat corgi, Bitey

8. Literally anything else but your student loan debt

Now, those who support the idea of taking my money to give it to someone else so that someone else can have things he, she or xe wants rarely put it so bluntly. It's never, "Well, I want this education but I don't want to do the things necessary to pay for it. I want you other people to do the things necessary to pay for it." Instead, it's always put in some other way that makes them taking our money to spend on things they want appear as a favor to us, the people expected to do the work.

For instance, sometimes they say that us working to give other people free stuff is an "investment." Again with the not understanding what words means...

Traditionally, with an investment, one gets a return on investment. No one ever explains what my return on investment for Kaden's Marxist Puppetry degree might be, other than an occasional latte which I would still have to pay for. I prefer that I instead determine how to invest my own money in order to benefit myself, which I do not see as unreasonable since it is my money. Which I earned by working.

This is the beauty of my one-step student loan plan. It puts all this controversy aside. Pay your own student loan off. That's it. End of discussion. Now get to work.

Chemotherapy for the Republic
Key paragraphs, but go read the whole thing.
[AmericanGreatness] It will take the full range of treatments to battle this disease.

Surgery in the form of pruning back regulatory overreach—a process that is already underway, despite major resistance from the self-styled “progressive” left. Surgery too in the form of prosecution, conviction, and imprisonment of those who can be identified as committing discrete crimes.

Radiation in the form of investigations such as the three now happening within the Department of Justice today. We also need declassification of government records and public scrutiny of what is uncovered, unpleasant though all of it may be.

Fighting this cancer will require the American public to step up, to take seriously what is at stake here. It will require scrutiny not only of the heinous FISA abuse that occupies our concern at the moment, and the unwarranted unmasking of U.S. citizens’ communications that contributed to the abuse, but also of refamiliarizing ourselves with the side deals involved in the Obama/Iran nuclear deal and their implications for our national well-being. We must look once again at the aborted and distorted matter of Hillary’s private email server containing raw intel material compromised by a foreign power. And much more.

And it will require a continued course of chemotherapy.

It has taken crude, ego-filled tweets to push back effectively on a corporate leftist media that is acting as the public-relations arm of one political party. We need those tweets and rally appearances that are filled with insulting nicknames for opponents, boastful claims, and yet honest appreciation for the core identity of this nation at its best to push back on an elite class that thrives at the cost of the nation’s communities and families outside of their privileged enclaves.

It seems we need a thrice-married philanderer to bring forward one of the most dignified, gracious, multilingual and multicultural first ladies in recent memory to the White House.

He is also a businessman who negotiated high-profile deals in multiple countries to take on the self-enriching nexus between foreign companies and governments like China, on the one hand, and American officials and their families like the Bidens and Dianne Feinstein and her husband, on the other.

After the 2016 election, a small businessman involved in real estate told me he had voted for Trump precisely because he figured that, as someone who had dealt with corrupt local officials, rapacious banks, and labyrinthine legal frameworks, Trump might have a chance of successfully taking on the Beltway crowd.

Chemotherapy.

Cancer treatment can be touch and go. When the cancer is aggressive and threatening metastasis, the treatment itself can drive patients to near collapse. Nausea sets in, making even simple meals hard to ingest and keep down. Radiation and chemotherapy threaten healthy cells. I know one young man whose white blood cell count dropped to a grand total of one, nearly wiping out his immune system, before the voracious cancer cells were finally killed off.

Today that now-older man is a successful professional, husband, father, and member of his community.

The battle against cancer can be won. But it will take firm determination, the full spectrum of treatments, and intentional commitment to rebuilding health if our Republic is to survive the disease now consuming it.

Federal Rats Are Fleeing the Sinking Collusion Ship
[Victor Davis Hanson at PJ] The entire Trump-Russia collusion narrative was always implausible.

One, the Washington swamp of fixers such as Paul Manafort and John and Tony Podesta was mostly bipartisan and predated Trump.

Two, the Trump administration's Russia policies were far tougher on Vladimir Putin than were those of Barack Obama. Trump confronted Russia in Syria, upped defense spending, increased sanctions and kept the price of oil down through massive new U.S. energy production. He did not engineer a Russian "reset" or get caught on a hot mic offering a self-interested hiatus in tensions with Russia in order to help his own re-election bid.

Three, Russia has a long history of trying to warp U.S. elections that both predated Trump and earned only prior lukewarm pushback from the Obama administration.

It's also worth remembering that President Bill Clinton and the Clinton Foundation had been recipients of Russian and Russian-related largesse -- ostensibly because Hillary Clinton had used her influence as Secretary of State under Obama to ease resistance to Russian acquisitions of North American uranium holdings.

Britain
"London isn't an English city anymore": Brexit supporter John Cleese hot take sparks Twitter firestorm
[Voice of Europe] The Fawlty Towers and Monty Python star dredged up previous comments he made about the UK capital losing its sense of Englishness, tweeting that the observation has since been confirmed by virtually all his friends from abroad.

"Some years ago I opined that London was not really an English city any more. Since then, virtually all my friends from abroad have confirmed my observation. So there must be some truth in it... I note also that London was the UK city that voted most strongly to remain in the EU."

Needless to say the controversial remarks have loosed a maelstrom of responses on the social network withmany rushing to tell the 79-year-old why he is wrong.

David Aaronovitch, a columnist with the Times, sought to give Cleese a brief history and geography lesson: "London has long been a British city, John. Which you might expect, what with it being the capital."

However numerous people supported Cleese’s views: "The texture and fabric of life in London is not quintessentially English. And many ethnic English outside of London all say the same thing," author Thomas Clements responded.

Some noted that Cleese’s observations were a clear-cut case of confirmation bias while others noted the comedian’s comments were supported by the facts on the ground. Pauls Joseph Watson wrote: "Over 41% of London’s population is foreign born. London also has the second highest foreign-born population of any city in the world. London is clearly the least "English" city in England. Cleese is merely stating a reality that anyone who lives in London understands."

Cleese has been vociferous in his support for Brexit. Explaining why he voted Leave, he said: "I don’t want to be ruled by Brussels bureaucrats who want to create a super state."

Spain's capitulation: Seville will have its first mosque in 700 years after the Reconquista
[Defend Europa] 700 years is a long time, many centuries, many generations, many people who saw how Seville flourish thanks to the commerce of the Spanish Empire, becoming the centre of Southern Spain

Seville is truly a city with an interesting history, with important and curious events. Today’s event has gone unnoticed by the majority of Spaniards and Sevillians, as well as most of the media. Perhaps in the eyes of Sevillians, this event is only considered part of the "innocent" game called multiculturalism.

The title doesn’t lie, Seville, a city with a deeply Catholic tradition, will have its first mosque in 700 years, after the Reconquista. Many people will ask "what’s wrong? It’s just a simple mosque." And to be honest, putting myself in their place, I would also ask myself, "What’s wrong with a mosque?"

Nine years ago, there was an attempt to put a mosque in the Sevillian neighbourhood of San Jerónimo. The response of the neighbours was blunt: NO!

As you can see in the video, the reaction was clear. Of course, this protest was labelled as islamophobe, xenophobe, and others "phobes" from the list the regressive left uses to attack patriotism.

But now, it’s different.

THE NEW MOSQUE
In the scene of this political theatre, enters a man called Kanoute, a former player of the football team Sevilla FC, which is raising 300,000 euros for the construction of the mosque.

"I do it to save the Islamic worship of the city," he declared.

In a country like Spain, which the Muslim population has reached 4% and continues to grow under this Socialist government, the opening of this seemingly unimportant mosque will open the appetite for the construction of many more. The same trend has been seen in Barcelona for example.

With the capitulation of another city in Spain, its European roots begin to tremble. Attacks on Spanish culture can be seen daily. Me your writer, a simple Spaniard and Sevillian, cannot but help remembering the words of Ferdinand III of Castile, who reconquered the city:

"I did not rid this city of the Mohammedan power so that hundreds of Moors stay here to practice their infidel rites."

Could Prostitution Be Next to Be Decriminalized?
[NYT] ALBANY ‐ Marijuana has gone mainstream, casino gambling is everywhere and sports wagering is spreading. Could prostitution be next?

Lawmakers across the country are beginning to reconsider how to handle prostitution, as calls for decriminalization are slowly gaining momentum.

Decriminalization bills have been introduced in Maine and Massachusetts; a similar bill is expected to be introduced to the City Council in Washington D.C. in June; and lawmakers in Rhode Island held hearings in April on a proposal to study the impact of decriminalizing prostitution.

New York may be next: Some Democratic lawmakers are about to propose a comprehensive decriminalization bill that would eliminate penalties for both women and men engaged in prostitution, as well as the johns whom they service.

"This is about the oldest profession, and understanding that we haven’t been able to deter or end it, in millennia," said Senator Jessica Ramos, a Democrat from Queens who is one of the plan’s backers. "So I think it’s time to confront reality."

The New York legislation appears unlikely to pass in the coming months, but the idea of decriminalization has already amassed a growing coterie of prominent supporters, suggesting that it might continue to gain traction.

The debate is unquestionably polarizing in many circles, even among advocates for sex-trafficked and abused women who fear that creating a legal path for prostitution will not eliminate, but rather actually encourage, underground sex trafficking.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
DoD bought phony military gear made in China, including counter-night vision clothing that didn't actually work
[Military Times] The U.S. military, government agencies and other purchasers bought more than $20 million worth of Chinese-made counterfeit goods designed to look like domestically produced gear from a company that defrauded the government and helped to orchestrate the counterfeiting process between January 2013 and October 2018, Justice Department officials said last week.

The counterfeit gear included 200 specialized parkas designed to counter night vision goggles that would have been used by U.S. Air Force personnel stationed in Afghanistan.

But the Multicam APECS Parkas sold to an unnamed U.S. Air Force base supply center didn’t actually do that, which could have put troops’ lives at risk.

Those types of parkas use a near-infrared technology woven into the fabric that is designed to make the wearer more difficult for enemy forces to detect with equipment such as night-vision goggles, justice officials said. The counterfeit versions, however, lacked the near-infrared technology, unbeknownst to the wearer.

The sales were in violation of the Berry Amendment and the Trade Agreements Act, which require goods sold to the military and certain government buyers to be manufactured in either the United States or select countries.

China is not one of those countries, justice officials said.

Barr Unloads On Collusion Conspiracy Theory: ‘This Whole Idea That Trump Was In Cahoots With The Russians Is Bogus'
[The Federalist] In an hour-long interview with CBS News’ Jan Crawford released on Friday, Attorney General William Barr reflected on the Russia investigation, the Robert Mueller report, the personal attacks against him, and his career at the Department of Justice.

Barr laid into the abuses of power happening among top officials at the FBI, the lack of evidence found by Mueller’s investigation, and the media hypocrisy exposed by coverage of stories like the "appalling" texts between FBI agent lovers Peter Strzok and Lisa Page.

"Mueller has spent two and half years and the fact is there is no evidence of a conspiracy," Barr said. "So it was bogus, this whole idea that the Trump was in cahoots with the Russians is bogus."

Barr has been critiqued for seeking to declassify documents concerning the Russia investigation. He argued that reviewing standards and procedures at the highest levels are an "important way of making sure that government power is being conscientiously and properly applied."

When Crawford asked if he was concerned with bias among FBI investigators, Barr said the Strzok-Page texts were "very damning" and argued that there would be an outrage if the same stunts had been pulled against the Obama campaign.

"If those kinds of discussions were held, you know, when Obama first ran for office, people talking about Obama in those tones and suggesting that ’Oh that he might be a Manchurian candidate for Islam or something like that.’ You know some wild accusations like that, and you had that kind of discussion back and forth, you don’t think we would be hearing a lot more about it?" he asked.

When Crawford asked Barr about attacks on his reputation, the attorney general gave a stoic response.

Dollar stores warn they will have to raise prices over tariffs
[The Hill] Two of the largest U.S. dollar store chains warned that shoppers might face rising prices as a result of the ongoing trade war between the U.S. and China, Reuters reported Thursday.

Executives from both Dollar Tree and Dollar General told analysts on their post-earning calls that tension with Beijing will likely hit their businesses. The warning comes after President Trump announced an increase in tariffs on $200 billion of Chinese goods earlier this month.

Dollar General executives said the retailer was working with vendors to "mitigate the impact."

"Even with these efforts, we believe our shoppers will be facing higher prices as 2019 progresses," Dollar General Chief Financial Officer John Garratt said on the call.

Dollar Tree president and CEO Gary Philbin said in a statement that new tariffs Trump has levied against China will be "impactful" to their business and consumers in general.

GM Sends Manufacturing Jobs to South Korea as U.S. Workers Are Laid Off
[Breitbart] General Motors (GM) executives announced this week that two of their vehicles will be produced in South Korea as American workers in Lordstown, Ohio are left jobless after their GM plant closure and other Americans’ jobs at the corporation hang in the balance.

At the end of last year, GM CEO Mary Barra announced that the corporation would soon lay off 14,700 workers in the United States and Canada. Meanwhile, the corporation’s production in China and Mexico have remained unaffected, much like Barra’s continued annual salary of $22 million.

While the Lordstown, Ohio Assembly Plant has already been idled by GM, also slated to close this year are GM’s Detroit-Hamtramck and Warren Transmission plants in Michigan and the Baltimore Operations plant in Maryland.

Closing the Lordstown plant resulted in the immediate layoff of about 1,600 American workers, and since 2017, GM has laid off about 4,500 American workers in Ohio. The GM plant closure is also expected to leave more than 8,000 American workers jobless in Lordstown and the surrounding area, as well as cut out about $8 billion in economic activity in the area. Already, more than 900 workers in supporting industries have been put out of work.

Dutch anti-Islam lawmaker Wilders says Twitter blocks his account
[Rooters] Dutch far-right politician and anti-Islam campaigner Geert Wilders said on Friday that Twitter had temporarily blocked his account following remarks he made about a political rival.

Wilders, who cannot easily appear in public due to threats against him by Islamists, relies heavily on Twitter to communicate with his supporters. He has 811,000 followers, second only to Prime Minister Mark Rutte among Dutch politicians.

"Twitter often tolerates death threats against me, but not a factual tweet by me about a colleague. Madness!," he said in a statement.

Twitter could not immediately be reached for comment. A front man for Wilders’ Freedom Party sent a screenshot of his account showing the ban, which was due to expire in around eight hours.

The tweet that led to Wilders’ block referred to D-66, a progressive center-left party as "suckers ...who import ever more Islam and then weep crocodile tears over the consequences, such as honor killings."

Wilders is currently appealing a 2016 conviction for inciting discrimination for an incident in which he led followers in chanting they wanted "fewer! fewer! fewer" Moroccans in the Netherlands.

260,000 Muslims pray peacefully at Al-Aqsa Mosque after terror attacks
[IsraelTimes] Police allow prayers for final Friday of month of Ramadan to go ahead despite a Paleostinian assailant stabbing and wounding two Israelis in Jerusalem’s Old City.

Hundreds of thousands of Moslems took part in the final Friday prayers of Ramadan at the al-Aqsa Mosque in the Old City of Jerusalem, as Israel heightened security following a Paleostinian stabbing attack.

The Jerusalem Islamic Waqf organization which administers the site, the third holiest site in Islam, said in total 260,000 worshipers gathered for the lunchtime prayers.

The prayers came only hours after a Paleostinian teenager stabbed two Israelis inside the Old City before being rubbed out by Israeli police.

In a separate incident, another Paleostinian teenager was rubbed out by Israeli forces in the West Bank as he sought to breach the security barrier and sneak into Jerusalem, reportedly to pray at al-Aqsa.

In Jerusalem, a 19-year-old Paleostinian stabbed one Israeli near Damascus Gate and another near Jaffa Gate on the other side of the walled Old City, police front man Mickey Rosenfeld said.

One of the Israelis, a man in his 40s, was in a critical condition with knife wounds to the neck and the other, 16-year-old Yisrael Meir Nachumberg, was stabbed in his back.

"Police units that responded at the scene saw the attacker with a knife. The attacker was shot and killed," Rosenfeld said.

The Paleostinian health ministry later named him as Yusef Wajih from Abwein village in the central West Bank.

A video released by police showed a man running through the streets and stabbing two Orthodox Jews.

After the latest attack on Friday, gates to the Old City were briefly sealed before being reopened as thousands thronged towards the mosque. Inside the mostly uncovered mosque compound, water was sprayed on worshipers to keep them cool in the baking Jerusalem sun, with temperatures approaching 40°C (104°F).

Despite a heavy police presence, there were no reports of further incidents.

Rosenfeld said increased security presence would "continue throughout the afternoon and evening."

Palestinian teen shot dead in West Bank, apparently while breaching fence

[IsraelTimes] Incident near Bethlehem comes hours after Jerusalem terror attack and amid heightened Ramadan tensions.

A Palestinian teenager was shot dead by Israeli forces in the West Bank on Friday, the Palestinian health ministry said. In a statement, the ministry said Abdullah Ghaith, 16, “died after he was shot by Israeli occupation soldiers close to Bethlehem and his heart and lungs were penetrated.” Another man, 21, was shot in the stomach at the same location and was being treated in hospital, the ministry said.

Israeli police said that the Palestinian teenager was shot while attempting to climb over the heavily guarded security barrier from Bethlehem into Jerusalem. The police added that they were launching a probe into the incident.
“The two of ‘em thought they were too good to use the gate like everyone else, Sarge, so they got themselves shot.”
“Hokay, Yossi. Put that in your report and I’ll sign off on it.”
The boy’s father, Louai Ghaith, said his son had been trying to enter Jerusalem to pray at Al-Aqsa Mosque on the last Friday of Ramadan. Ghaith’s body was brought to a Bethlehem hospital, where his distraught family identified the body.

“He was going to fulfill his religious duty, he was going to worship,” Ghaith said. “They killed him… with a bullet to his heart, like a game, and 16 years I’ve been raising him.”
He fulfilled his religious duty, dying like a martyr coward in the dirt
Earlier on Friday, a Palestinian man was detained at the Qalandiya checkpoint near Jerusalem after security forces found a knife in his possession.

Islamic Jihad chief says Gaza groups can fire 1,000 rockets a day at Israel
[IsraelTimes] Arson balloons spark three fires inside Israel; 7,000 Paleostinians protest along Gazoo border with hundreds rioting, 11 maimed.

The head of the Paleostinian Islamic Jihad
...created after many members of the Egyptian Moslem Brotherhood decided the organization was becoming too moderate. Operations were conducted out of Egypt until 1981 when the group was exiled after the assassination of President Anwar Sadat. They worked out of Gaza until they were exiled to Lebanon in 1987, where they clove tightly to Hezbollah. In 1989 they moved to Damascus, where they remain a subsidiary of Hezbollah...
in Gazoo warned Friday that terror groups in the Strip have the ability to fire 1,000 rockets a day into Israel for a month and have some missiles that can carry a half-ton explosive warhead.

Speaking in an interview with the Lebanese Hezbollah’s al-Manar television station, Ziad Nakhaleh said that his group and Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, were improving their capabilities on a daily basis, giving the large warheads as an example.

"In the last round of fighting we restrained ourselves and only fired 700 rockets into Israel over two days," Nakhaleh said, adding that they also held back from targeting some cities deep in Israel.

"In the next round of fighting, we will not only fire at Tel Aviv, but at all the cities, whatever may happen," he said, claiming they could sustain a rate of fire of 1,000 rockets per day for a full month.
"Kill us now"
A tense calm has prevailed since the weekend of violence at the beginning of the month, during which Hamas and Paleostinian Islamic Jihad fired nearly 700 rockets at Israel.

Three fires were started Friday by the incendiary devices, including a blaze in the Be’eri Forest near the Gazoo border. Fire fighters were working to get it under control.

Some 7,000 Paleostinians gathered along the border in five places Friday, with some rioting and throwing rocks and bombs at Israeli troops who responded with tear gas and occasional live fire.

The Hamas-run Gazoo health ministry said 11 people were maimed.

Grandstanding idiots.
[IsraelTimes] Israel’s parliament votes to dissolve itself after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu fails to meet the midnight deadline to form a new government, triggering an unprecedented second national election this year.

After a raucous 12-hour debate, politicians approve by a vote of 74 to 45 a Likud-drafted bill to dissolve the 21st Knesset and hold new elections on September 17.

Europe
In first, Dutch government calls fighting anti-Semitism a national priority
[IsraelTimes] The Dutch government has allocated $3.35 million toward fighting anti-Semitism ‐ the first time Holland has placed the fight on its list of national priorities.

The funding, earmarked earlier this week during budget talks among members of the ruling coalition, established the fight against anti-Semitism as a key point demanding government attention, alongside education, immigrant integration and five additional issues.

Sought by the Christian Union Party, the move follows intensive coverage in the Dutch media of Jews’ fear of harassment and violence, mostly from immigrants colonists from Arab or Moslem countries or their descendants.

The move follows intensive coverage in the Dutch media of Jews’ fear of harassment and violence, mostly from immigrants colonists from Arab or Moslem countries or their descendants.
The government previously has not budgeted a lump sum for fighting anti-Semitism, only for specific issues connected to it, such as security at Jewish institutions.

On Wednesday, hundreds of protesters gathered in front of the Dutch parliament in the Hague to protest anti-Semitism.

The demonstration, titled "Kippa On," followed the warning given last week by the German government’s anti-Semitism envoy, Felix Klein, against wearing kippas in public. It was organized by the Center for Information and Documentation on Israel (CIDI), a Jewish community watchdog group.

Among the senior politicians who showed up wearing a kippa was Thierry Baudet, leader of the right-wing Forum of Democracy party, and Frits Bolkestein, a former defense minister for the ruling People’s Party for Freedom and Democracy.

Earlier this month, CIDI launched a website devoted to monitoring anti-Semitism on Dam Square in Amsterdam, a memorial for the victims of World War II, where in recent years activists promoting a boycott of Israel have faced off with supporters of the Jewish State.

In a recent incident from April, a well-known boycott promoter, Robert-Willem van Norren, was filmed at Dam saying "White Jews killed tens of thousands of people."

Economy
Oil falls over 3% on fresh trade worries, posts biggest monthly drop in six months
[AlAhram] Oil slumped over 3% on Friday and posted its biggest monthly drop in six months, after U.S. President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
stoked global trade tensions by threatening tariffs on Mexico, a key U.S. trade partner and a major supplier of crude oil.

Brent crude futures fell $2.38, or 3.6%, to settle at $64.49 a barrel. U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures fell $3.09 to $53.50 a barrel, a 5.5% loss.

During the session, Brent fell to a session low of $64.37 a barrel, lowest since March 8. WTI sank to $53.41 a barrel, weakest since Feb. 14.

Brent futures posted an 11% slide in May and WTI a 16% drop, their biggest monthly losses since November.

Trump vowed on Thursday to ratchet up tariffs unless Mexico stopped people from illegally crossing into the United States. The plan would impose a 5% tariff on Mexican imports starting on June 10 and increase monthly, up to 25% on Oct. 1.

That could hit the lucrative cross-border energy trade.

"U.S. refiners import roughly 680,000 barrels per day of Mexican crude. The 5% tariff adds an extra $2 million to the cost of their daily purchases," PVM analysts said.

The United States also exports more fuels to Mexico than any other country, according to the U.S. Energy Department, though so far Mexico has not said whether it would retaliate.

Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador on Friday urged Trump to back down from the threats.

The threats compound concerns about global economic growth, already at risk due to the U.S.-China trade war. That dispute has prompted worries about a recession.

Additional levies by Beijing on the majority of U.S. imports on a $60 billion target list are due to take effect on Saturday. The tariffs are in response to Washington’s move earlier this month to slap further tariffs of up to 25% on $200 billion of Chinese goods.

A Rooters survey showed Brent crude prices are likely to hold near $70 a barrel for the rest of the year as elevated supply risks in the Middle East offset risks to demand.

Top oil exporter Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
’s increased output in May was not enough to compensate for lower Iranian exports, a Rooters survey found. The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries is expected to meet late June. At the beginning of the year, OPEC and allies agreed to cut production by 1.2 million bpd.

U.S. production has offset that decline, as output returned to a record 12.3 million barrels per day, and as U.S. crude stocks fell less than expected last week, according to weekly figures.

"This fresh tariff headline offers a ’pile on’ effect to an oil market that has already been seeing downside pressure from some unexpectedly large U.S. crude supply increases that have been weighing on values across this month of May," Jim Ritterbusch, president of Ritterbusch and Associates, said in a note.

U.S. energy firms this week increased the number of oil rigs operating for the first time in four weeks but cut the rig count for the sixth straight month as most drillers cut spending plans. Companies added three oil rigs, General Electric Co’s Baker Hughes energy services firm said Friday.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Russia says it's Turkey's duty to halt fighting in Syria's Idlib
[AlAhram] The Kremlin said on Friday it was The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the most dubious NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. It's headquartered in Belgium. That sez it all....
ally....

’s responsibility to stop rebels in Syria’s Idlib province from firing on civilian and Russian targets, signaling it would continue to back a Syrian government offensive there despite Ankara’s protests.

Ottoman Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan told his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin
...President-for-Life of Russia. He gets along well with other presidents for life. He is credited with bringing political stability and re-establishing something like the rule of law, which occasionally results in somebody dropping dead from poisoning by polonium or other interesting substance. Under Putin, a new group of business magnates controlling significant swathes of Russia's economy has emerged, all of whom have close personal ties to him. The old bunch, without close personal ties to Putin, are in jail or in exile or dead from poisoning by polonium or other interesting substances...
late on Thursday that he wanted a ceasefire in Idlib to prevent more civilian deaths and a refugee influx to Turkey.

Erdogan also told Putin by phone that Syria needed a political solution, Erdogan’s office said in a statement.

The Ottoman Turkish leader has repeatedly complained to Moscow about a Russian-backed Syrian government offensive in the rebel-held northwest, the most serious escalation of the war between Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
The Scourge of Hama...
and his enemies since last summer.

The fighting has uprooted around 250,000 people in the territory, the last significant rebel stronghold, and one which borders Turkey.

The Kremlin made clear on Friday however that it was for now unmoved by Erdogan’s calls for a ceasefire, saying the rebels were the ones who had to implement a ceasefire in the first instance.

"We really do need a ceasefire in Idlib and what needs to be achieved is for the gunnies to stop firing on civilian targets and on certain facilities where our troops are located," Kremlin front man Dmitry Peskov told news hounds when asked about Erdogan’s request for a ceasefire.

"...This is the responsibility of the Ottoman Turkish side."

Russia has complained of rocket and drone attacks against its main Hmeymim air base being launched from Idlib, something Peskov described as "a highly dangerous tendency".

He made no mention of the idea that Syrian government troops, backed by Russian air power, should stop fighting however, but denied Moscow and Ankara disagreed over Idlib.

The fate of the province has strained relations between Russia and Turkey, which is keen to retain a degree of influence there given its geographical proximity.

Moscow, one of the Syrian government’s staunchest allies, and Turkey brokered a deal in September to create a demilitarized zone in Idlib that would be free of all heavy weapons and jihadist fighters.

But Moscow, which is keen to help Assad retake territory, has since complained about escalating violence in the area and said that holy warriors who used to belong to the Nusra Front group are in control of large swaths of territory.

It has blamed Turkey for not doing enough to hold its side of the bargain, while Ankara, which is worried about refugees crossing from Idlib into Turkey, has repeatedly urged restraint.

US says countries buying Iranian oil will be subject to sanctions
[AlAhram] The United States will sanction any country which buys oil from Iran after the expiration of waivers on May 2, U.S. Special Representative for Iran Brian Hook said on Thursday.

Sanctions would be imposed "even if a country had not met its previously-negotiated purchase caps," Hook said in a statement. "Our firm policy is to completely zero out purchases of Iranian oil. Period."

The Wall Street Journal reported earlier on Thursday that countries like China and India which were issued waivers in November to buy Iranian could continue the purchases after May 2 until they reached a negotiated cap.

Afghanistan
Sopko Counts Daesh As A Big Challenge In Afghanistan
[ToloNews] John F. Sopko, Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (Sigar) says that administrative corruption, narcotics and ISIS are the three biggest challenges faced by Afghanistan.

Talking to the US C-SPAN (Cable-Satellite Public Affairs Network), Sopko said that even if the Afghan government makes a peace deal with the Taliban
...Arabic for students...
, it will have to face with the above-mentioned challenges.

"There are thirty some terrorist groups operating in Afghanistan, so even if you negotiate with the Taliban, you still have to deal with ISIS.
...not to mention the twenty-eight or so others...
The other some of the risk with talk about is you still have a problem of corruption, you still have a problem of narcotics. It is the largest producer of heroin in the world," Sopko said.

Talking about the Afghan grinding of the peace processor, Sopko said if a peace deal is reached, integration of the Taliban in the society will take time and money.

Sopko said the international community will stop their support to Afghanistan if the Taliban in a possible post-peace government turns back to their past and repeat the same treatments with the women as they did during their regime.

"We also have to deal with the issue of how the Taliban are gonna treat women. That was a key goal of us in the coalition to improve the lives of women and girls in Afghanistan," Sopko added.

He said Washington has spent $132 billion in the last 18 years in Afghanistan’s reconstruction, but the goals for which the money were spent have not been achieved.

Sopko’s remarks came amid the US and Taliban members have held sixth rounds of talks to find a political settlment to the Afghan conflict.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Lebanon agrees to talks with Israel over maritime dispute
[Al Jazeera] As the United States and Iran face off against each other across the Gulf, the often-turbulent waters of the eastern Mediterranean were less choppy this week.

Leb, home to the Iran-backed gang and political movement Hezbollah, agreed last week to a process to resolve a maritime dispute with Israel on the condition that negotiations are held under the watch of the United Nations
...the Oyster Bay money pit...
Interim Force in Leb (UNIFIL).

Israel, historically critical of UNIFIL's role in Leb, reluctantly accepted the condition as long as the US, its main international ally, was also involved. The details of the precise role to be played by UNIFIL and the US are still being worked out, Lebanese officials said.

The US has been mediating between Israel and Leb over the issue since 2011 and the latest breakthrough is being attributed to the shuttle diplomacy of David Satterfield, US undersecretary for the near east.

Once the framework for the talks is set, Leb and Israel will sit down to present their respective claims over 860sq km of disputed waters rich in hydrocarbons, off the shore of south Leb. At least two gas fields have been discovered on the patch in recent years.

Leb has long held concerns that Israel may obstruct it from exploring the disputed blocks. Beirut has already awarded its first contracts for exploration to a consortium of French, Italian and Russian companies that are expected to start work later this year.

It has also accused Israel of accepting bids from companies to explore resources in the disputed waters and warned it against doing so, however.

Yassine Jaber, a Lebanese parliamentarian with the Amal Movement - a political party and Hezbollah's Shia ally - said Leb wanted the presence of the UN as "an honest arbiter" to help resolve the dispute. UNIFIL has monitored the blue line, effectively the border between Israel and Leb, since their last war in 2006.

The sources further added that the security forces carried out a similar airstrike in Now Zad district of Helmand killing 2 Taliban fighters. "In Now Zad district, a strike killed 2 Taliban fighters," the sources said.

The security forces carried out similar airstrikes in southern Kandahar province. "Airstrikes in Ma’ruf district of Kandahar province killed 3 Taliban fighters and maimed 1," the military sources added.

The anti-government armed bandidos Lions of Islam including Taliban have not commented regarding the airstrikes so far.

Europe
Hungary scraps parallel justice system plans after EU failure
[Al Jazeera] The Hungarian government has scrapped controversial judicial reforms in an apparent bid to smooth relations with mainstream EU partners.

The move follows the failure of Hungary's far-right and Eurosceptic forces to make serious inroads in the recent European Parliament elections. Hungary's ruling Fidesz party had hoped the vote would help shift the balance of power in favour of its nationalist populist agenda.

Gergely Gulyas, head of the prime minister's office, announced on May 30 that the cabinet had indefinitely postponed plans to create a parallel judicial system. The decision comes amid "heated European and international debate
... an expenditure of personal wind at the national level that leads to face-making and other histrionics but can't be shown to have ever solved an issue ...
s" over judicial independence, he noted.

In December, the government had approved plans for a new administrative court system, overseen by the justice minister, that would have handled cases brought against state bodies. After this week's climbdown, such cases - often centred on electoral and corruption issues - will remain the remit of the Supreme Court.

The Grand Turk
Turkish economy shrinks again as currency crisis bites
[AlAhram] The Ottoman Turkish economy shrank sharply year on year for the second straight quarter in early 2019, laying bare the impact of a punishing currency crisis and soaring inflation and interest rates against a tense political backdrop.

The major emerging market economy contracted 2.6% in the first quarter after a 3% percent decline in the previous three months, rocked by a fall of more than a third in the value of the lira since the end of 2017.

A burst of government spending before local elections on March 31 helped contain the slump, though a subsequent further selloff in the lira and worsening sentiment could drag on gross domestic product (GDP) again toward the middle of 2019.

"The tightening of financial conditions over the past couple of months has probably resulted in a renewed downturn," said Capital Economics senior EM economist Jason Tuvey, pointing to a broad market sell-off since late March.

"This reinforces our view that the recovery will be slow and bumpy."

Last year’s currency crisis, brought on by concerns over a diplomatic row with Washington and doubts about the independence of the central bank, ended years of a construction-fuelled boom driven by cheap foreign capital and characterized by growth rates above 5 percent.

Inflation shot up as the central bank hiked borrowing costs to support the ailing lira.

The lira has come under renewed pressure in recent months as investors fretted about the threat of new U.S. sanctions, uncertainty over local election results, declining central bank reserves and a trend of Turks ramping up foreign holdings.

The lira firmed to 5.85 against the dollar from 5.8825 after Friday’s Statistical Institute data, which compared with a Rooters poll forecast for a first quarter shrinkage of 2.5%

Afghanistan
Afghan Special Forces rescue 33 more people from a Taliban prison in Helmand

province, the provincial government media office said.

According to a statement released by Helmand governor’s compound, the Afghan Special Forces conducted a raid in Kajaki district late on Thursday night.

The statement further added that the Special Forces rescued 33 people from the Taliban prison.

This is not the first the Special Forces have rescued prisoners from a Taliban prison. The Special Forces rescued 32 people from a Taliban prison in Zabul province a day earlier.

This comes as the UN Mission in Afghanistan had earlier expressed grave concerns regarding grave concern about the ill treatment of detainees in Taliban-run prisons. The Talibs forced the detainees for a minimum of seven hours a day of forced labor, including making improvised bombs besides beating and torturing the detainees, the UN Mission said in its latest reported which was released last week.
Tolo News adds:
According to the statement, among those freed were three members of the Afghan National Police, 29 Army soldiers, and one civilian.

The statement said that the Taliban
...mindless ferocity in a turban...
prison was destroyed after the rescue of the 33 people.

Gangbangers ordered to inflict ‘damage’ before slay of ‘Junior’ Guzman-Feliz
[NYPOST] Bronx gangbangers were given the order to inflict "any kind of damage" they could on rivals just three days before the murder of innocent teen Lesandro "Junior" Guzman-Feliz, according to court testimony Friday.

A Trinitarios ringleader, Diego Suero, issued the order to his minions, who then mistook Guzman-Feliz for a rival when they stabbed him to death outside a bodega June 20, 2018, cooperating witness and gang member Michael Sosa Reyes told Bronx Supreme Court jurors.
Nancy Pelosi's "Spark of Divinity" brigades
Reyes, a member of the "Bad Boys" ‐ one of two Trinitarios subsets ‐ said gangbangers were gathered outside Suero’s apartment, just one block from the slay-scene bodega at East 183rd Street and Bathgate Avenue, when they were instructed to hunt down members of the rival Sunset crew for recently shooting a Bad Boy member.

"Go after Sunset, you know what you have to do," Suero reportedly told the men.

Reyes said the order implied: "If you have a gun, shoot it, if you a have a knife, you stab, if you have a machete, you use it."

On the night of Junior’s murder, Trinitarios were driving around looking for Sunset members when they spotted the 15-year-old walking. They pursued him in cars, mistaking the aspiring NYPD detective for a gangbanger because he supposedly resembled a known one.

Reyes told the jury he chased a frightened Junior inside the bodega and lied to the storekeeper that the teen "had done something to my grandmother."

But Reyes told the court that he couldn’t follow through with Suero’s order after looking Junior in the face. Instead, he said, he watched as other Trinitarios members dragged Junior outside and hacked him to death with machetes and knives.

"At the moment I saw his face, my eyes changed. I saw he was scared, and he reminded me of a person that I had seen before," Reyes said, adding he felt "very bad" about the murder.

Afghanistan
Heavy Explosion Rocks Kabul: 4 Civilians Killed, 4 American Troops Wounded
[ToloNews] A heavy kaboom rocked Kabul city on Friday morning hours after an kaboom near the military academy in the west of Kabul left six people dead.

Nasrat Rahimi, a front man for Ministry of Interior Affairs, told TOLOnews that the kaboom happened in Qala-e-Wazir area in Kabul’s PD9 and that it was a boom-mobile blast.

He said the kaboom happened at around 8:30am.

Eyewitnesses and police sources said the kaboom targeted a foreign forces convoy.

According to sources, five people were maimed in the kaboom.

9:40AM
At least four non-combatants were killed and three others maimed in a boom-mobile blast in Kabul which happened at around 8:30am this morning, the Interior Ministry's front man Nasrat Rahimi confirmed.

US-Forces Afghanistan confirmed that at least four US service members were maimed in the kaboom in Kabul's Qala-e-Wazir area on Friday morning.
Al Ahram adds:
The Taliban claimed responsibility for the blast, which came a day after the Islamic State militant group claimed a suicide attack outside a military training academy that killed at least six people.

A spokesman for U.S. Forces in Afghanistan confirmed that a car bomb hit a U.S. convoy and four service members had suffered minor injuries in the explosion but gave no other details.

The blast sent a plume of white smoke into the air and spread debris across the busy Jalalabad road in the city’s east, an area with several large security compounds which has seen repeated attacks over the years.

Witnesses said at least three armored Land Cruiser vehicles were in the convoy, one of which was heavily damaged in the explosion and removed from the scene by crane as Afghan and U.S. troops guarded the scene while firefighters cleaned up.

Kabul has been on high alert in recent days, with security checkpoints reinforced, despite increased diplomatic efforts to open a peace process to end 18 years of war in Afghanistan.

Friday’s attack, shortly before next week’s Eid al-Fitr holiday, came as a delegation of Taliban officials met senior Afghan politicians in Moscow this week for discussions which the main Taliban spokesman said had made good progress.

The Taliban have been talking with U.S. diplomats for several months to agree a withdrawal of more than 20,000 U.S. and NATO coalition troops in exchange for guarantees that Afghanistan would not be used as a base for militant attacks.

No ceasefire declared during Eid days: Taliban
So pure are they that none of the usual strictures apply to them.
[KhaamaPress] The Taliban

group has rejected rumors regarding a ceasefire declaration during the three days of Eid-ul-Fitr.

Taliban front man Zabiullah Mujahid in a statement said audio clips circulating on social media regarding ceasefire declaration is not new and belongs to last year.

This comes as the former Afghanistan's Caped President Hamid Maybe I'll join the Taliban Karzai
...A product, and probably the sole product, of the Southern Alliance...
had earlier welcomed a ceasefire declaration by Taliban group during the three days of Eid-ul-Fitr.

The Office of the Former President in a statement said the former President Hamid Karzai welcomes declaration of ceasefire by Taliban group during Eid-ul-Fitr days.

The statement further added that the former President urges the government to declare a ceasefire as a gesture of goodwill and refrain from any military operations.

Karzai also hailed the declaration of a three-day ceasefire as a good start for bringing peace in the country.

Both the government and Taliban group announced ceasefire during Eid days last year. The Taliban group adhered to a three-day ceasefire only despite the government announced an extension to its declaration of the ceasefire.

Government
If the MSM is selling, I'm not buying...
[Politico] Of the many senior officials to leave the Trump administration over the past two years, few have exited on better terms than former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley. Before her departure last December, President Donald Trump feted Haley with an Oval Office photo-op and declared that his U.N. diplomat "has been very special to me."

And while many former Trump officials, from former White House chief of staff John Kelly to former Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and former Defense Secretary Jim Mattis, have kept a low profile in the private sector, Haley is charting a different course. She is emerging as a fundraiser and surrogate for 2020 Republican Senate candidates, and next month will begin zigzagging across the country to campaign for a trio of GOP senators.

Elizabeth Warren compared to Rachel Dolezal
[NYPOST] Democratic presidential hopeful Sen. Elizabeth The Belle of Gitchie Goomie Warren
...Dem Senatrix from Massachussetts, who traces her noble lineage all the way back to Big Chief Spouting Bull. It has been alleged that she speaks with forked tongue but she denies that. She had a DNA test to prove her lineage and it turns out she's colorless..
has continued to back away from her claims of Native American ancestry, admitting "I shouldn’t have done it" during a radio interview on Friday morning.

Her appearance on "The Breakfast Club" turned awkward when co-host Charlamagne tha God grilled Warren and compared her to Rachel Dolezal, a white woman who infamously posed as black despite having no known African ancestry.

When asked why she listed her race as "American Indian" on old documents, the Massachusetts Democrat insisted, "This is what I learned from my family."

"Were there any benefits to that?" Charlamagne pressed in the video shared on Twitter.
Oops! That's the whole point
"No, the Boston Globe did a full investigation," Warren insisted. "Nothing about my family every affected any job I ever got."

"You’re kind of like the original Rachel Dolezal, a little bit. Rachel Dolezal was a white woman pretending to be black," Charlamagne said.
THAT'S gonna leave a mark
Rachel Dolezal infamously posed as black to become president of the Spokane, Wash., chapter of the NAACP but resigned when it was revealed in 2015 that she was born to white parents.

Warren first claimed to have Native American ancestry in 2012 and in October last year doubled down on her claims by releasing a video about her family history and the results of a DNA test that found "strong evidence" of a Native ancestor.

But the stunt backfired and the 69-year-old was forced to apologize to leaders of the Cherokee Nation who said the DNA test was "inappropriate and wrong."

In October it was revealed that Warren listed her race as "American Indian" on her Texas Bar registration card in 1986.

"I learned about my family the same way most people learn about their family, from my momma and my daddy and my aunts and my uncles, and it’s what I believed," Warren said Friday.

"But I’m not a person of color. I’m not a citizen of a tribe, and I shouldn’t have done it."

After Warren released the results of the DNA test, Trump unloaded a series of attacks on her, dubbing Warren "Pocahontas."

Afghanistan
Taliban claim ‘progress’ at Afghan talks
That and five bucks’ll get you something with caffeine and lots of calories at Starbucks.
[DAWN] Taliban
...Arabic for students...
officials and Afghan opposition figures claimed on Thursday to have made "tremendous progress" at Moscow talks, but the announcement rang hollow as discussions yet again excluded the Afghan government and no ceasefire was announced.

The ultra-conservative Islamist turbans spent more than two days at a plush hotel in central Moscow, where they met several leading Afghan politicians ‐ including past president Hamid Maybe I'll join the Taliban Karzai
...A product, and probably the sole product, of the Southern Alliance...
and former warlord Atta Muhammad Nur.

In a joint statement, the parties said they’d had "productive and constructive" discussions focusing on issues including a possible ceasefire, the "strengthening of the Islamic system" and "women’s rights".

"Both sides have had tremendous progress, but some issues require further discussions," the statement read.

But with the Kabul administration ‐ viewed by the Taliban as a US-backed puppet regime ‐ once more sidelined from the conversation, it was difficult to see what tangible results could come from the talks.

Afghanistan's Caped President Ashraf Ghani
...former chancellor of Kabul University, now president of Afghanistan. Before returning to Afghanistan in 2002 he was a scholar of political science and anthropology. He worked at the World Bank working on international development assistance. As Finance Minister of Afghanistan between July 2002 and December 2004, he led Afghanistan's attempted economic recovery until the Karzais stole all the money. ..
had proposed a nationwide ceasefire at the start of the holy month of Ramazan, but the Taliban rejected the offer.

Hezbollah chief warns war against Iran would 'engulf region'
[Al Jazeera] The head of the Lebanese political and armed movement Hezbollah has warned that any war against Iran would cause the Middle East to "erupt".

Hassan Nasrallah said on Friday that the United States "know well that any war on Iran will not remain confined to Iran's borders. The entire region will burn", leading to all US forces and interests in the region being "annihilated".

The head of the Iran-backed movement made the comments in a televised speech as emergency meetings of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and the Organisation of the Islamic Conference and Arab League

The meetings were held in order to counter what Saudi Arabia has called Iran's growing influence in the region. They take place amid escalating tensions between the US and Iran.

Police: Multiple people hurt in Virginia Beach shooting (12 dead)
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (AP) ‐ A shooter wounded "multiple" people at a municipal center in Virginia Beach on Friday, according to police, who said they had taken a suspect into custody and believed the person was acting alone.

Police tweeted that there were "multiple injuries," but did not elaborate on the exact number or extent. Sentara Healthcare tweeted that five patients were being treated at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital and a sixth was being transferred to the Trauma Center at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

Christina Pullen, a spokeswoman for the FBI in Norfolk, said the bureau is responding to assist Virginia Beach police. She did not have specifics on how many people were hurt.

A police spokesman told The Virginian-Pilot that the shooter opened fire in Building 2 of the municipal center, which is adjacent to City Hall. The building houses the city’s public works, public utilities and planning departments, according to City Councilwoman Barbara Henley, who arrived at City Hall building about 4 p.m. Friday when she saw a crowd of people standing outside.

"Somebody told me there had been a shooting and they were told to leave. Afterward, I heard a loud male voice say, ’Get down!’ so I did," Henley told The Associated Press.

"When the person said to get down, then everybody dispersed pretty quickly," she said.

"I’m just sick," she said. "All these people that I work with all the time. They are such really fine people, and I just hope they’re all safe."
More from the Daily Mail, where America gets its news:
  • Virginia Beach police say the shooter died after police returned fire Friday

  • Gunman was 'disgruntled, longterm current' city of Virginia Beach public utilities employee

  • He has been named as DeWayne Craddock, 40, by The Wall Street Journal

  • Craddock reportedly bought multiple firearms in recent weeks, reports say

  • The shooter opened fire in Building 2 of the municipal center, close to City Hall

  • He is said to have engaged in a 'long term gun battle' with first cops on the scene

  • One victim was shot in his car outside the offices, with victims on all three floors

  • 45 caliber handgun with a surpressor and multiple extended magazines used

Six dead in IS-claimed blast at Kabul military academy
Follow up to this report from yesterday.
[DAWN] At least six people were killed and 16 more maimed in a suicide kaboom outside a military academy in the Afghan capital on Thursday, an official said.

group, targeted students leaving the Marshal Fahim National Defence University in western Kabul.

Kabul police front man Firdaws Faramarz said the jacket wallah had been on foot. He went kaboom! when a soldier challenged him near the entrance to the war college.

"In the blast, 16 people were maimed and six were martyred," Faramarz said.

The attacker "let 'er rip before reaching his target", he added, without providing further details.

The attack happened around noon (0730 GMT), a time when students typically leave school early during the month of Ramazan.

The Afghan IS affiliate said it had carried out the attack and claimed to have killed "50 military trainees".

Opened in 2005 and named after former vice president Mohammed Fahim, the Marshal Fahim academy is modelled after US and British war colleges and trains cadets destined to become officers in Afghanistan’s army.

Teen faces child porn charges for sending pals her own sex tape
Having taken all leave of their senses...
[NYPOST] A Maryland court will decide whether a teen girl can be prosecuted on child porn charges after she allegedly sent pals a video of herself performing oral sex, according to reports.
That makes sense. Not a lot of sense, but sense. Of a sort. Kinda.
The 16-year-old girl ‐ identified in court papers only as S.K. ‐ was charged with distributing child pornography, filming a minor engaging in sexual conduct and displaying an obscene item to a minor after she shared the footage in October 2016 with two classmates, according to court documents.
In Pennsylvania, a person four or more years older than a minor (defined as sixteen years old or younger) who has sex with her/him commits a felony. There doesn't appear to be any such good sense escape clause in the Maryland law, designed by the same sort of people in favor of Common Sense™ gun control measure.
She was convicted in juvenile court and placed on probation ‐ but her lawyers argue that a statute intended to protect minors shouldn’t be used to punish them, and have appealed her conviction in the state Court of Appeals, which will rule on the case later this year, Reason reported.
Since it's juvenile court, where records are sealed when the girl achieves majority, and it involves nothing but probation, it's a not shit case anyway and somebody with more money than judgment is trying to prove a point. I can see the point, but more appropriate punishment would involve a parental slap across the face and washing the child's mouth out with soap.
In the case, the teen girl texted the 1-minute video of herself with a "presumably-adult male" in a bid to impress another 16-year-old girl and 17-year-old boy, court papers said.
I'm sure we've all met lotsa people who'll be impressed by a video of a teen girl eating a baloney. I'm guessing she couldn't impress them with her vocabulary and her achievements to date. I'm guessing she's not Honor Society material.
"The three then-friends, who regularly exchanged ’silly’ videos and attempted to ’outdo’ one another, trusted each other keep these group messages private," her lawyers said.
Well, of course. Teenagers can always be trusted with a person's reputation.
The group, however, had a "falling out" two months later and her two friends turned the video over to the school resource officer.
Rather than washing their mouths out with soap, the school resource officer called the cops, because school resource officers are noted for their tact and discretion.
The teen previously appealed the ruling in a lower court, which upheld the decision, ruling that self-filmed child pornography isn’t exempt from the law.
Procrustes has the Vacancy sign lit up at his motel.
"The state has an indisputable interest in protecting minors from exploitation ’as subjects in pornographic material’ ... whether at the hands of others or by their own conduct," wrote Court of Special Appeals Chief Judge Matthew Fader, according to the Washington Post.
This is one of those delightful cases where everyone concerned, probably including any innocent bystanders and the family dog, did all the wrong things. Our society is rotting, and this is the odor.
Prosecutors have argued that they’re not "trying to prove a point" in pursuing the case, "just trying to help" the teen because she needs "guidance" and "rehabilitation," according to the newspaper.
That should have been her parents. I'll bet they're ever so proud of her liking for tube steak.

China-Japan-Koreas
North Korea Threatens Force to Curb ‘Evil American Ambition’
Pudgy has decided that being restored to the community of nations isn’t worth giving up the crazy after all? Ok, then.
[BREITBART] North Korea accused the United States this week of showing bad faith in ongoing denuclearization negotiations by allegedly carrying out nuclear and missile tests as part of an "evil ambition" to conquer dictator Kim Pudge Jong-un
...the overweight, pouty-looking hereditary potentate of North Korea. Pudge appears to believe in his own divinity, but has yet to produce any loaves and fishes, so his subjects remain malnourished...
’s rogue regime by force.

"The U.S. has thus showcased its ulterior intention that it seeks a strength-based solution of the issues, though outwardly it advocates for dialogue," the policy research director of the Institute for American Studies of North Korea’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs declared in a statement on Wednesday, Rooters noted, echoing the state-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).

In the statement, North Korean officials denounced the recent U.S.-South Korean military drills and American missile defense exercises as well as test launches of intercontinental and submarine-launched ballistic missiles, Rooters reported.

For months, U.S. President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
and Kim have engaged in failed negotiations towards the complete, verifiable, and irreversible denuclearization of the Korean peninsula in exchange for relief from crippling sanctions and the threat of war.

Despite two historic Trump-King meetings towards the goal, the U.S. has failed to convince the North to drop its nuclear program. The U.S. has vowed to keep economic pressure on North Korea until it agrees to its demands.

Referring to commitments by Trump and Kim at the first summit last year to establish a new era of relations, the statement for the North said, "All the above clearly shows that the June 12 ... Joint Statement is not within the consideration of the United States, and there is no change at all in the evil American ambition to conquer (North Korea) by force."

"The U.S. should better bear in mind that its hostile acts will only bring about the result of adding tension to the already unstable Korean Peninsula and inviting adverse current. Use of strength is not at all a monopoly of the United States," it added.

Yaba kingpin Saiful killed in Teknaf ‘gunfight’
[Dhaka Tribune] Top yaba smuggler Saiful Karim‐mostly known by initials "SK" among his associates‐has been killed in a reported shootout with police in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar.
"Aaaiiieee! I am undone!"
The incident occurred near the banks of the Naf river, along the boundary wall of Teknaf’s land port, around 3:30am on Friday.
"Chief! It's 3:30am!"
"Check your weapons, men!"

The three police personnel injured in the incident are: Sub-Inspector (SI) Russel Ahmed, 35, Constable Imam Hossain, 30, and Constable Md Solaiman, 36.
"Ow!"
"Ow!"
"Ow!"

Meanwhile,
...back at the shootout, Butch shot Black Bart's gun out of his hand......
police recovered: nine firearms, 43 bullets, 33 shell casings, and 100,000 yaba pills‐worth approximately Tk1.3crore‐from the spot.
Not a single shutter gun?"
Saiful was listed, alongside former Awami League MP Abdur Rahman Badi, on the list of 1,151 drug smugglers and dealers that was prepared by the Home Ministry last year.
"Ay! He had the death sentence on twelve systems, he did!"
Confirming the matter to Dhaka Tribune, Teknaf cop shoppe Officer-in-Charge (OC) Pradip Kumar Das said: "The yaba kingpin was jugged
... anything you say can and will be used against you, whether you say it or not...
by police on charges of arms and drugs.
Which one? I'm confused...
"After thorough interrogation, he finally confessed that a large consignment of yaba pills were dispatched from Myanmar near the Teknaf Sadar land port area a few days ago."
"Tell Mister Big dat Acey got da stuff!"
He said police conducted a drive in the area, taking Saiful along with them, based on his information. However,
there's more than one way to stuff a chicken...
when the law enforcement agency members reached the spot, Saiful’s associate drug traders‐lurking there‐opened fired at them, leaving three members of the police injured.
"It's Jackie Chan! Run fer yer lives!"
"No! It's da cops!"
[BANG! BANG! BANGETTY BANG!]"

Police fired back at them in self-defence, triggering the shootout. At one point, Saiful was injured by a bullet, but the rest of the yaba smugglers managed to escape, the OC added.
Funny, how that works out.
Critically injured,
"Sergeant Shafiq! Bring the other half of his head!"
"Yessir! Ewww!"

Saiful was taken to Teknaf Upazila Health Complex but the on-duty doctors referred him to Cox’s Bazaar Sadar Hospital for better treatment.
"Doctor Quincy, to the white courtesy phone!"
However,
there's more than one way to stuff a chicken...
the on-duty doctor at the hospital declared him dead on arrival.
"He's dead, Jim!"

The body of Tshisekedi, who died in Belgium in February 2017 at the age of 84, lay in state on Friday in the 80,000 capacity Martyrs' Stadium after being repatriated the evening before.

The ceremony was hosted by Tshisekedi's son, Felix, who was elected to the DRC's presidency in a December ballot and had long vowed to bury his father's remains at home. Among those in attendance were Rwandan President Paul Kagame and his Angolan and Republic of Congo counterparts, Joao Lourenco and Denis Sassou Nguesso.

The return of Tshisekedi's body, which will be buried on Saturday, was consistently blocked by his son's predecessor and former longtime leader, Joseph Kabila.

Supporters of Tshisekedi said he was so potent a threat to the former president, of whom he was a vociferous critic, that even his corpse had to remain abroad.

Dad busted for marrying his daughter after ‘jealous competition’ with half-sister
[NYPOST] A depraved Nebraska man has been incarcerated
You have the right to remain silent...
for having sex with his biological daughter ‐ even marrying her when cops were on the case, according to reports.
Inbreeding, anyone?
Travis Fieldgrove, 40, was tracked down by daughter Samantha Kershner, 21, after pleading with her mom to tell her who her real dad was, according to the Omaha World-Herald.
"My real dad is Prince Charles, ain't he, maw?"
Kershner was allegedly motivated to get intimate over "a jealous competition with her half-sister regarding who could have sex with their father," according to the paper, which cited a court affidavit.
"Betcha I could get Paw to pork me quicker'n yew!"
The father-daughter relationship had turned sexual by September last year, and the pair married on Oct. 1 at the Adams County Courthouse in Hastings, according to the affidavit.
"Yessir, yer honor! Do the honors!"
DNA results showed a 99.999% probability that Fieldgrove was her dad, the affidavit said.
"Yep. We even got the same neck tattoos!"
"Evidence leading up to the arrest suggests that Fieldgrove and (the daughter) were aware of the biological relationship before being intimate,
"Paw, yew don't suppose there's some kinda biological relationship betwixt us, do yew?"
and further indicates that they quickly married one another after being notified of the investigation," the Grand Island Police Department said at the time of their arrests.
"Why shore there is, honey! We're father an' daughter!"
"Maybe we oughta get married!"
"Good idea!"

Fieldgrove, of St. Paul, Nebraska, initially was charged with committing incest, a felony, but under a plea deal, pleaded no contest to an attempt charge, according to the report.
"It wuz jest an attempt on her honor, yer honor! Happened to work, that's all!"
He was incarcerated
You have the right to remain silent...
for two years, with Hall County District Judge Mark Young giving credit for 121 days already served.
"Oh, paw! I'll wait fer yew!"
He also was ordered to serve a year’s post-release supervision with no contact with his daughter.
"I'll wait even longer, paw!"
Defense attorney Jeff Loeffler told the World-Herald that Fieldgrove is embarrassed by the offense and claimed his client suffers from a brain injury and is not a "high-functioning" person.
We guessed that.
She's 21 but he's the only one guilty here?

‘Sugar taxes’ could finally get people to eat less junk food
[NYPOST] Policy interventions could help consumers sour on sugary sodas and fruit juices.

So-called “sugar taxes” and front-of-package nutrition labels may have a real impact, according to experimental research published in the International Journal of Behavioral Nutrition and Physical Activity: They result in consumers buying products with fewer calories and less sugar, sodium and saturated fat.
Oh lord, they’re playing with nudging again, because they know better than us stupid deplorables...
What’s more, applying the tax to 100 percent fruit juice
...which is full of healthy natural vitamins and even some roughage, and therefore has historically been considered a healthy choice compared to the empty calories of soda pop...
— whose naturally occurring sugars can rival the sugar content in sweetened drinks — leads to the greatest reductions in calories and sugar purchased, the study found.

“Many people don’t realize that fruit juice can have just as much sugar, or more, as regular pop and these types of drinks aren’t always included in a tax when evidence shows that maybe they should be,” lead study author Rachel Acton, a Ph.D student at the University of Waterloo, said in a statement.

Acton and her co-authors designed an experimental study involving 3,584 Canadians aged 13 and up. Armed with a $5 budget, study participants went about buying beverages and snack foods with various front-of-package labels and with varying taxes (for example, a 20 percent tax on sugar-sweetened drinks). Some labels said the product was “high in” sugar, while others listed a nutrition grade from “A” through “E.”

#7  Your body has to get sugar directly or extract it from food to make adenosine triphosphate, the basic fuel of all cells. Like sodium, there's an optimal amount. Trying to get by on too little is often more immediately catastrophic than consuming more than the body needs. Neither extreme is good.

Muslim countries urged to play role on Al-Quds issue
[DAWN] Federal Minister for Human Rights Dr Shireen Mazari on Thursday urged Moslem countries to play their role in developing a consensus on the issue of al-Quds.

Addressing an al-Quds conference held to express solidarity with Paleostine at a local hotel, she said Moslem countries, particularly Pakistain, Indonesia, Malaysia and The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...Qatar's colony in Asia Minor....
, should play their role to revive the issue of al-Quds and highlight the lost agenda at the international platform.

She said the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) had lost its relevance as it could not take up the issue of al-Quds.

Iran hardliners to lead show of force for Palestinians on Quds Day

[Rudaw] Moslems across the world will take to the street on Friday in simultaneous rallies to protest against the Israel occupation of Paleostinian lands, the biggest of which to be held in the Iranian capital where hardliners will burn the Israeli and US flags, while chanting "Death to America and Israel!"

Several top holy manal authorities in Iran on Thursday called on people to take part in Islamic Revolution founder Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini's rally who began it 40 years ago to show worldwide Moslem solidarity with Paleostinians on the last Friday of fasting during Ramadan.

Khomeini introduced the concept a few months after the 1979 Revolution in response to Israeli cross border attacks against Paleostinian militia groups in Leb.

"For many years, I have warned about Israel the usurper, which has intensified its attacks on Paleostinian brothers and sisters these days and in particular in Leb intending to destroy the Paleostinian fighters, constantly bombing their homes," Khomeini said in his terse message naming the occasion on August 7, 1979.

Former Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki emphasized the importance of Quds (Jerusalem) Day) in a tweet.

"Commemorating International Quds Day is surely heeding the wise call that Imam Khomeini, may God have mercy on, him made. It shows the extent of the commitment of Arab and Islam peoples to the Paleostinian cause," he said on Friday.

Protesters in ’Quds Day’ parades often carry signs supporting Hezbollah and other holy warriors groups across the Middle East. However the UK parliament on March 1 added Hezbollah to a list of terrorist organizations and supporting the group carries a sentence of up to 10 years in prison.

Protestors in the southern Iraqi city of Basra demonstrated against the United States and President Donald Trump

, Israel, and Saudi King Salman
...either the largest species of Pacific salmon or the current Sheikh of the Burnin' Sands, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and Lord of Most of the Arabians....
on Friday.

For a several years there have been attempts to ban the parade in London.

"I've raised my deep concerns about the support shown for Hezbollah at the annual Al Quds march in London on a number of occasions - and the fact the Home Secretary has finally listened and is taking action is welcome," Sadiq Khan the Mayor of London responded to a question on March 21. "However,
we can't all be heroes. Somebody has to sit on the curb and applaud when they go by...
neither myself nor the Met have the power to ban marches or protest; that power lies with the Home Secretary."

The day is officially called International Quds Day.

Iranian Minister of Culture Abbas Salehi said this week that the day's goal is to defend Paleostinians' democratic rights.

"It’s more than 40 years from Camp David to the Deal of the Century. US peace further fueled war and violence in the region from Carter to Trump," he wrote on Twitter.

Rhetoric and emotion will run high following midday prayers across the Islamic world, with many protesting US President Donald Trump's decision to move its embassy to Jerusalem and the re-election of Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu.

Iran accuses Saudi Arabia of 'sowing division'
[DAWN] Tehran accused Riyadh on Friday of "sowing division" in the region to Israel's advantage, after the kingdom hosted summits of Gulf and Arab leaders to rally support against the Islamic republic.

Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
has "continued to sow division between Islamic countries and in the region, which is the wish of the Zionist regime", Iran's foreign ministry front man Seyed Abbas Mousavi said.

"We see the attempts by Saudi Arabia to rally neighbouring and Arab countries against Iran as the continuation of futile attempts by America and the Zionist regime," he added.

Mousavi expressed disappointment that Riyadh intended to level the same "baseless allegations" against Tehran at a summit of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation in Makkah early on Saturday, "exploiting" its role as host.

Defiant demonstrators vow to continue Khartoum sit-in
[Al Jazeera] Tens of thousands of protesters continued demonstrating in Khartoum on Friday, a day after the Transitional Military Council (TMC) said that the sit-in outside the army headquarters was a threat to the safety and security of the Sudanese people and warned action would taken against "unruly elements".

Sudan's armed forces posted a video on its official Facebook page on Friday apparently showing young men vandalizing an army vehicle, alleging that it was shot during the sit-in.

Earlier, another video showed young men hurling rocks at moving cars near the sit-in. The caption read: "Chaos in the heart of the capital. We will put an end to the chaos, God willing."

But demonstrators say the military is using the threats as a possible pretext to break up the sit-in, because protesters want the generals of the TMC to hand power to a civilian-led administration.

Protesters set fire to US embassy in Honduras
[PRESSTV] Protesters set fire to the US embassy Honduras, a day after tens of thousands of Hondurans marched to demand the resignation of President Juan Orlando Hernandez.

The demonstrators set fire to the entrance of the building in downtown Tegucigalpa with about a dozen tires after dousing them with fuel on Friday. A fire department official said there were no damage to the embassy apart from the access gate.

The attack came on the second day of protests over decrees by Hernandez that his critics argue will lead to the privatization of public services.

The protesters were pushed toward the embassy after being dispersed from a nearby commercial zone by police nearby.

They chanted "American trash, American trash" outside the embassy, which was not being guarded at the time of the attack.

A court filing earlier this week showed that Hernandez had been investigated by US authorities as part of a drug trafficking and money laundering probe linked to his brother. The president has not been charged with any crime.

Iraq
More than 1,000 dunams of crops burn in Kirkuk
[Rudaw] The Committee on Disputed Territories in the Kurdistan Region Government’s [KRG] parliament called for the end of the "militarized state of Kirkuk" on Friday, and asked that Peshmerga forces return to stabilize the areas in a joint effort with the Iraqi army.
Sorry - I had no idea what a dunam was. It turns out 1000 of them is about 247 acres or a little under 1/2 a sq mile.
The statement comes as tensions between Kurds and Arabs have escalated over a series of fires set to farms on territory claimed by both the KRG and the federal government.

The implementation of article 140 of the Iraqi constitution--to conduct a census and a referendum in the disputed territories-- would "fundamentally resolve all the problems of the area", said the committee. The statement also called for the removal of the current acting governor of Kirkuk and other officials who were appointed by then Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi, rather than through official elections.

The event was launched by Iranian revolutionary leader Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini in 1979, to show support for Paleostinians and call for the return of Jerusalem to the Paleostinians, but is often also marked with anti-Israel rhetoric. The event is held each year on the last Friday of the month of Ramadan, with demonstrations held in cities worldwide.

This year’s rallies come as the US plans to roll out the first phase of its Mideast peace plan. While details of the plan have yet to be released, snapshots suggest that it’s biased in favor of Israel and sidelines the Paleostinian goal of independence, and has been rejected by Paleostinian leaders and many in the Arab world.

Concerns Mount Over Sharp Increase In Attacks In Kabul
[ToloNews] Over the last two weeks, Kabul city has witnessed four armed attacks on police checkpoints in different parts of the city and two suicide kabooms close to the center of the city which have raised concerns among the residents.

Kabul residents on Friday said they are worried about the attacks, especially the raids on police checkpoints by unknown gunnies.

The residents said that despite the armed attacks, crime has also made them tired of the situation.

The residents criticized security officials over what they described negligence by officials.

"We are living in a city where each moment it is possible that an incident might happen. Attacks now have reached inside Kabul city and we witnessed three attacks in one week. Government does not have a clear plan for managing this situation," said Sebghatullah Spin, a Kabul resident.

"The officials are very negligent in this regard and do not take the issue serious. It is very worrying," said Sayed Mahdi Alavi, a news hound.

In addition to the armed attacks, on Thursday, a jacket wallah detonated his explosives close to Marshal Fahim National Defense University in Kabul’s PD5 which claimed the lives of six people and maimed 16 others.

Another suicide bomber, on Friday, targeted a convoy of foreign military in Kabul’s PD9 in which four non-combatants were killed.

The Ministry of Interior's front man Nasrat Rahimi said the ministry has plans on hand for decreasing the number of such incidents and that security forces have tossed in the slammer
Don't shoot, coppers! I'm comin' out!
a number of suspects in connection to crime and armed robberies.

"The enemy cannot plan attacks as security forces are serving day and night," Rahimi said.

Analysts said targeting security checkpoints inside the city is a new tactic used by the murderous Moslems and added that measures should be taken to prevent such incidents.

Despite being flagged by two psychiatrists as unable to handle the stress of the job, and described his neighbours as ill tempered and jumpy, and disliking women, children at play, and African-Americans, he was put through the fast track training for college grads. Dutch hostage killed while trying to escape from militants in Philippines
[AlAhram] A Dutch photographer held hostage by Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
-linked snuffies in the Philippines since 2012 was killed on Friday by his captors when he tried to escape during a firefight on a remote southern island, the military said.

Ewold Horn, a wildlife photographer, was shot by his guards from the Abu Sayyaf
...also known as al-Harakat al-Islamiyya, an Islamist terror group based in Jolo, Basilan and Zamboanga. Since its inception in the early 1990s, the group has carried out bombings, kidnappings, murders, head choppings, and extortion in their uniquely Islamic attempt to set up an independent Moslem province in the Philippines. Abu Sayyaf forces probably number less than 300 cadres. The group is closely allied with remnants of Indonesia's Jemaah Islamiya and has loose ties with MILF and MNLF who sometimes provide cannon fodder...
group when he tried to flee during a clash between government troops and the Death Eaters, said Brigadier General Divino Rey Pabayo, commander of a Joint Task Force on Sulu island.

Horn and a fellow photographer, Lorenzo Vinciguerra from Switzerland
...home of the Helvetians, famous for cheese, watches, yodeling, and William Tell...
, were taken captive as they were sailing off an island called Tawi Tawi on a bird-watching trip more than seven years ago and later taken to Sulu. Vinciguerra escaped in 2014.

Dutch Foreign Minister Stef Blok said the Netherlands had informed Horn’s family.

"I am shocked by this terrible outcome", Blok said, "I have been in contact with the family. I will ask my counterpart in the Philippines for further clarification."

Six snuffies were also killed in the firefight in the town of town of Patikul on Sulu, Pabayo said. The circumstances of the firefight were not immediately clear.

Also killed during the clash on Friday was Mingayan Sahiron, the wife of Radullan Sahiron, a big shot of the Abu Sayyaf, the military said.

Radullan Sahiron is on a U.S. State Department wanted list with a $1 million reward for his capture since his involvement in the kidnapping of U.S. tourists in 2001.

He was believed to have escaped the clash, another military front man said.

The Abu Sayyaf, a small but violent group in the Moslem south of the largely Catholic Philippines, has been known for extortion, kidnappings, beheadings and bombings, and has pledged allegiance to Islamic State snuffies in Iraq and Syria.

It earlier pledged allegiance to the al Qaeda Death Eater group.

Pompeo to Germany: Use Huawei and lose access to our data
See also Huawei cancels all links and connections with Americans.
[AlAhram] The United States raised the pressure on Western allies in a war of attrition over next-generation networks on Friday, saying countries that allow China’s Huawei to build their telecoms infrastructure could be cut off from crucial intelligence data.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo issued the warning after meeting Foreign Minister Heiko Maas of Germany, which has so far stood with Britannia and La Belle France in declining calls to ban the state-owned manufacturer from the 5G networks now being built.

In the latest sign of escalating trans-Atlantic tensions over trade and security, Pompeo, on the first leg of a five-day European tour, said that while countries would take a "sovereign decision" on which equipment to use, that decision would have consequences.

"(There is) a risk we will have to change our behaviour in light of the fact that we can’t permit data on private citizens or data on national security to go across networks that we don’t have confidence (in)," he told a news conference.

Pompeo later met Chancellor Angela Merkel
...chancellor of Germany and the impetus behind Germany's remarkably ill-starred immigration program. Merkel used to be referred to by Germans as Mom. Now they make faces at her for inundating the country with Moslems ..
for brief talks before flying on to Switzerland
...home of the Helvetians, famous for cheese, watches, yodeling, and William Tell...
, describing Germany as "a great, important partner and ally of the United States."
So important that the American secretary of state only has time for a brief meeting with Chancellor Merkel on his way to his next stop.

Afghanistan
Bala Murghab District Once Again ‘Falls To Taliban’
[ToloNews] Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
has once again overrun Bala Murghab district in the northwestern Badghis province nearly one month after the area was retaken by Afghan forces following a 10-day clash late in April.

Bala Murghab is a strategic district in Badghis province, surrounded by some other volatile districts such as Ab Kamari, Muqur, Jawand, and Qadis.

Last time, Bala Murghab came under Taliban attack late in April and early in March and was under siege for more than two weeks, leaving more than two dozens of security forces dead and almost 28 of them gone missing.

Ziauddin Akazai, an MP from Badghis, said on Thursday that the district police headquarters, the main bazaar of Bala Murghab and the building of the district governor have fallen to the Taliban.

According to him, at least 10 security force members were killed and 11 others were maimed in the Taliban’s attacks, which according to him started early on Thursday.

He said government forces control only an army base on the outskirts of the district’s center.

He said the security forces will suffer "severe casualties" if reinforcements are not deployed to the area.

Local officials, however, denied commenting on the issue.

In the meantime, National Directorate of Security
...the Afghan national intel agency...
(NDS) said in a statement that at least 62 fighters of Taliban’s so-called ’red division’ were killed in security forces operations in central Maidan Wardak province on Thursday night.

The statement says that eight commanders of the Taliban’s red division were among those killed.
At least something good came out of it.

Four shot dead in honour-related clash in Bannu
[DAWN] Four people, including a newly-married woman, her brother and a cousin, were killed and two others injured when they attacked the house of the woman’s in-laws on the pretext of ’honour’ in Hathikhel area of Bannu on Thursday.

According to police, the relatives of the woman, Zainab Bibi, who were angered by her marriage to one Shah Zeb, went to her in-laws house and attacked her. She was killed on the spot.

The attackers were trying to escape, but they were blocked by Shah Zeb’s relatives and the area people.

In the ensuing fire exchange, the woman’s brother Abdul Hafeez, cousin Abdul Haseeb and their accomplice Mohsin Jan were killed, while two other cousins, including Waheedur Rehman and Latifur Rehman, were maimed.

Local people said that the woman had married Shah Zeb out of her free will. She was picked up by police after her family accused her of eloping with Shah Zeb.

The police had produced her in the local court on May 22 where she had recorded her statement.

She had told the court that she had married Shah Zeb of her own free will. The police reached the area soon after the incident and shifted the dead and the injured to the DHQ hospital.

Misrata operations room busts ISIS terrorist
[Libya Observer] Libyan Misrata operations room has tossed in the slammer

a man suspected of terrorist acts and of being part of ISIS groups.

A force from the operations room raided a house in Abu Grein in southern Misrata and detained the murderous Moslem after an arrest warrant for him was issued by the Public Prosecutor's Office.

The room explained on Thursday that Fares Belhaj (A.K.A. Khattab) was apprehended on Monday in Abu Grein in coordination with central region's criminal investigation apparatus.

"The murderous Moslem was arrested along with persons believed to be linked to his terrorist acts. We also seized weapons and ammunition as well as documents. The arrested persons will be sent to the concerned authorities for legal procedures." The operations room said.

Libya's Interior Ministry said last week that it had busted the Emir of Hisbah of ISIS and another terrorist linked to al-Qaeda.

UN atomic watchdog raises questions of Iran’s centrifuge use
[AlAhram] The U.N. atomic watchdog said Friday that Iran continues to stay within the limitations set by the 2015 nuclear deal with major powers, but reported its stockpiles of low-enriched uranium and heavy water are growing and raised questions for the first time about Iran’s adherence to a key provision intended to limit the country’s use of advanced centrifuges.

In a confidential quarterly report distributed to member states and seen by The News Agency that Dare Not be Named, the ineffective International Atomic Energy Agency said Iran has stayed within key limitations set in the so-called Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, or JCPOA, for uranium and heavy water stockpiles.

But while in past reports the IAEA said Iran’s research and development on enrichment "has been conducted using centrifuges within the limits defined in the JCPOA," the Friday report instead changed the wording to say it "has been conducted using centrifuges specified in the JCPOA." In a footnote, the agency said that "up to 33 IR-6 centrifuges have been installed" ‐ which could be a possible violation of the JCPOA ‐ and that "technical discussions in relation to the IR-6 centrifuges are ongoing."

Legal pot a gov signature away in Illinois
[MarijuanaMoment] Illinois Lawmakers Send Marijuana Legalization Bill To Governor’s Desk

A bill to legalize marijuana in Illinois is heading to the governor’s desk following a successful vote in the House of Representatives on Friday.

The legislation would allow individuals 21 and older to possess, consume and purchase cannabis from licensed retailers. It also contains a number of social equity provisions, while at the same time giving existing medical cannabis businesses a leg up in the licensing process.

The House passed the bill in a 66 to 47 vote.

The win for legalization supporters comes two days after the Senate approved the legislation, 38 to 17.

Gov. J.B. Pritzker (D) said he will sign the bill into law, making Illinois the 11th state in the U.S. to legalize marijuana—but the first to regulate the adult-use cannabis industry through an act of lawmakers as opposed to via a voter-approved ballot measure.

“The state of Illinois just made history, legalizing adult-use cannabis with the most equity-centric approach in the nation,” he said in a Twitter post. “This will have a transformational impact on our state, creating opportunity in the communities that need it most and giving so many a second chance.”
