Afghanistan
Pepe Escobar: China, Russia are stage-managing the Taliban
[AsiaTimes] Beijing, Moscow are working overtime to scrub the Taliban's 'terrorist' label and endorse it as a legitimate political movement

The first Taliban press conference after last weekend’s Saigon moment geopolitical earthquake, conducted by spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid, was in itself a game-changer.

The contrast could not be starker with those rambling pressers at the Taliban embassy in Islamabad after 9/11 and before the start of the American bombing — proving this incarnation of the Taliban is an entirely new political animal.

Yet some things never change. English translations remain atrocious. Here is a good summary of the key Taliban statements. These are the key takeaways:

— No problem for women to get an education all the way to college and to continue to work. They just need to wear the hijab, like in Qatar or Iran. No need to wear a burqa. The Taliban insist "all women’s rights will be guaranteed within the limits of Islamic law."

— The Islamic Emirate "does not threaten anyone" and will not treat anyone as enemies. Crucially, revenge — an essential plank of the Pashtunwali code — will be abandoned, and that’s unprecedented. There will be a general amnesty, including people who worked for the former NATO-aligned system. Translators, for instance, won’t be harassed and don’t need to leave the country.

— The security of foreign embassies and international organizations "is a priority." Taliban special security forces will protect both those leaving Afghanistan and those who remain.

— A strong inclusive Islamic government will be formed. "Inclusive" is code for the participation of women and Shiites.

— Foreign media will continue to work undisturbed. The Taliban government will allow public criticism and debate. But "freedom of speech in Afghanistan must be in line with Islamic values."

— The Islamic Emirate of Taliban wants recognition from the "international community" — code for NATO. The overwhelming majority of Eurasia and the Global South will recognize it anyway.

It’s essential to note, for example, the closer integration of the expanding Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) — Iran is about to become a full member, Afghanistan is an observer — with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

The absolute majority of Asia will not shun the Taliban.

For the record, the Taliban also stated that it took all of Afghanistan in only 11 days: that’s pretty accurate. They stressed "very good relations with Pakistan, Russia and China."

Yet the Taliban don’t have formal allies and are not part of any military-political bloc. They definitely "won’t allow Afghanistan to become a safe haven for international terrorists." That’s code for ISIS/Daesh.

On the key issue of opium and heroin, the Taliban say they will ban its production.

As eyebrow-raising as these statements may be, the Taliban did not even get into detail on economic and infrastructure development deals — as they will need a lot of new industries, new jobs and improved Eurasian-wide trade relations. That will likely be announced later.

What this first press conference reveals is how the Taliban are fast-absorbing essential PR and media lessons from Moscow and Beijing, emphasizing ethnic harmony, the role of women, the role of diplomacy and deftly defusing in a single move all the hysteria raging across NATOstan.

The next bombshell step in the PR wars will be to cut off the lethal, evidence-free Taliban-9/11 connection;
Evidence-free? His memory is worse than mine.
thereafter the "terrorist organization" label will disappear and the Taliban as a political movement will be fully legitimized.

Moscow and Beijing are meticulously stage-managing the Taliban’s reinsertion in regional and global geopolitics. This means that the SCO is stage-managing the whole process: Russia and China are applying consensual decisions that have been taken in SCO meetings.

The key player the Taliban are talking to is Zamir Kabulov, Russia’s special presidential envoy for Afghanistan.
Of course they are. Diplomats talk to the government, no matter how disreputable that government might be.
In yet another debunking of the NATOstan narrative, Kabulov confirmed, for instance, "we see no direct threat to our allies in Central Asia. There are no facts proving otherwise."
Which is why Russia is just finishing practice maneuvers in the Afghan border.
The Beltway will be stunned to learn that Zabulov has also revealed: "we have long been in talks with the Taliban on the prospects for development after their capture of power and they have repeatedly confirmed that they have no extraterritorial ambition, they learned the lessons of 2000."
Despite those reassurances, they’ve also recently spoken about expanding Islam to the rest of the world. Which one is true?
Zabulov reveals plenty of nuggets when it comes to Taliban diplomacy: "If we compare the negotiability of colleagues and partners, the Taliban have long seemed to me much more negotiable than the puppet Kabul government. We proceed from the premise that the agreements must be implemented. So far, with regard to the security of the embassy and the security of our allies in Central Asia, the Taliban have respected the agreements."

These contacts were established "over the past seven years."

Faithful to its adherence to international law, and not the "rules-based international order," Moscow is always keen to emphasize the responsibility of the UN Security Council: "We must make sure that the new government is ready to behave conditionally, as we say, in a civilized manner. That’s when this point of view becomes common to all, then the procedure [of removing the qualification of the Taliban as a terrorist organization] will begin."

So while the US/EU/NATO flee Kabul in spasms of self-inflicted panic, Moscow is practicing diplomacy. Zabulov adds: "That we have prepared the ground for a conversation with the new government in Afghanistan in advance is an asset of Russian foreign policy."

Meanwhile, Dmitry Zhirnov, Russia’s ambassador to Afghanistan, is working overtime with the Taliban including a meeting with a senior Taliban security official on Tuesday. The meeting was "positive, constructive ... The Taliban movement has the most friendly; the best policy towards Russia ... He arrived alone in one vehicle, with no guards."

Both Moscow and Beijing have no illusions that the West is already deploying hybrid war tactics to discredit and destabilize a government that isn’t even formed yet and hasn’t even started working. No wonder Chinese media is describing Washington as a "strategic rogue."

What matters is that Russia and China are way ahead of the curve, cultivating parallel inside tracks of diplomatic dialogue with the Taliban. It’s crucial to remember that Russia harbors 20 million Muslims and China at least 35 million. These will be called to support the immense project of Afghan reconstruction and full Eurasia reintegration.
Chechens and Uighurs? Pull the other one, that has bells on it!

China-Pak-AFG Will Attack India In One Year, says Gummint Guru
[TheWeek] BJP MP Subramanian Swamy has been warning about the implications of a Taliban takeover of Afghanistan and in particular its impact on India for months.

With the Taliban firmly establishing control over Kabul on Sunday and announcing there would not be a transitional government, part of Swamy's prediction has come true.

On Monday, Swamy warned the Taliban would gang up with China and Pakistan to attack India in a year's time. Swamy tweeted, "Taliban the first year will have as leaders of Afghanistan govt those who are with feigned moderate views. In the meantime, the Provincial leaders will be the genuine brutal Taliban hard liners. After a year, Afghanistan secured, Taliban, Pakistan, and China will attack India."

Various anti-Taliban groups in Afghanistan have been alleging Pakistan was backing the Taliban in its ongoing campaign of conquest.

Swamy had on Sunday claimed India should open its doors to all "anti-Taliban" forces to help set up an "Afghan Govt in Exile" and even "militarily move" to recover Afghanistan. Swamy had tweeted, "Now India must open its doors to all anti Taliban anti Pak Afghans to come to India and help set up a Afghan Govt in Exile so that when India recaptures PoK we will get back India's original border with Afghanistan. Then we can militarily move to recover Afghanistan."

Federal judge rules against COVID vaccine mandate at Louisiana medical school
[JustTheNews] Judge intervenes in dispute between the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine and Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry.

A federal judge in Louisiana has issued a temporary restraining order preventing Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine from mandating COVID-19 vaccination as a condition of student enrollment.

The decision is the latest development in a dispute involving several students, the private medical college operating at the University of Louisiana-Monroe and Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry.

Landry actively opposes vaccine mandates, while VCOM asserts its mandatory vaccination policy is critical to keeping students, staff and patients safe.

“Even during a pandemic, we must protect the rights of our citizens,” Landry said immediately after the ruling. “I'm pleased with the court’s decision and glad these students can focus on what's important; their education.”

Landry first approached the school when three students said they were retaliated against for refusing COVID-19 vaccinations.

“These complaints have included recordings of conversations with VCOM staff engaging in harassing and coercive conduct targeting students who have exercised their right to opt-out of receiving a COVID-19 vaccine,” Landry said in July.

The school rejected accusations of wrongdoing and maintains it has acted appropriately regarding health and legal obligations.

“The intention of VCOM’s coronavirus vaccine policy, is and always has been the safety of our students, the safety of our employees and workplace, as well as the safety of the patients being cared for by our students, faculty and staff,” VCOM said in an emailed statement.

The school granted the students religious exemptions after they filed a federal lawsuit, along with the attorney general, Aug. 4. Landry later backed out after Judge Terry Doughty of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Louisiana questioned the state’s standing.

The students continued their lawsuit, in part, because of restrictions that came with the religious exemptions, such as required vaccine education trainings, a prohibition on activities involving patients and only working with student lab partners who agree to work with unvaccinated students.

“VCOM has responded to the Attorney General’s letters twice by making minor amendments to our policy, but vaccination remains a requirement. This requirement is important as our students become medical providers in their first year,” the school said.

“Physicians and VCOM students, as medical providers, also have no right to be a vector in spreading the virus or infecting the unknowing patients they will care for, who would naturally believe the students would be vaccinated,” VCOM said.

Doughty sided with the students in his Tuesday ruling, saying the restrictions attached to the school’s religious exemptions would cause “irreparable harm” to the students. He added all VCOM students share the same risks outlined by the school’s administration by virtue of being at the University of Louisiana-Monroe.

“Although VCOM has an interest in protecting its students, its students are allowed to attend ULM functions, participate in ULM intramural events, study in the ULM library and mingle with ULM students, who are not required to get the vaccine,” the decision said.

Michael DuBos, the attorney representing the aggrieved VCOM students, said he was happy with the legal outcome.

“We feel it is important to respect individual rights, especially in a time of crisis. If not, it sets a dangerous precedent,” DuBos said.

Fort Bliss in Texas becomes ground zero for resettling Afghan refugees during chaotic exit
[Just the News] Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas, is best known as home to the Army’s tank division, the revered Old Ironsides military insignia and the country’s largest military-controlled airspace. But the Biden administration’s botched exit from Afghanistan is turning the vast installation into ground zero for the evacuation of Afghans who spent two decades helping the United States fight the war against terror.

Texas Sen. John Cornyn says the fort is preparing to receive 10,000 Afghan refugees, and military officials have hinted that number could reach much higher.

It’s the second major wave of civilian guests to be hosted at the fort, which began this spring helping the Homeland Security and Health and Human Services Departments to house thousands of unaccompanied minor children who were brought across the border.

The first mission has been plagued by multiple allegations of "poor, unsanitary and otherwise inadequate conditions," child abuse and neglect.

The portable tents set up for the migrants can hold up to 10,000 unaccompanied minors, but at the time of Cornyn’s visit only 2,500 were there, with an average reported stay of seven days.

On Tuesday, Cornyn received briefings at Fort Bliss and said the base was prepared "to take as many as 10,000 of those Afghans who worked alongside their American partners all these many years to try to combat terrorism and make America safe." The Texas Republican serves on both the Senate Intelligence and Judiciary Committees.

BBC liveblog: Taliban step up hunt for collaborators - UN report
Posted at 10:09 REACTION FROM PAKISTAN: GLEE - AND WARNINGS
When the news of Taliban taking over Kabul broke on Pakistani news channels, the responses were mixed.

But most - including some Pakistani politicians and a majority among the religious parties - couldn’t hide their glee that America had “lost”.

Many began pointing to a clip of the late former director-general of Pakistan’s spy agency – called the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) - describing the US withdrawal as “his vision”.

In the May 2014 clip, Hamid Gul, also known as the "Father of the Taliban", can be heard saying that "when history will be written it will be said that ISI defeated the Soviet Union in Afghanistan with America's help.

“But it will also be added that ISI defeated America (in Afghanistan) with America's help."

Not everyone is overjoyed at developments over the border – and warnings have begun to emerge aimed at those who might hope to pull strings from afar.

Pakistan has long been accused of playing a paradoxical role in Afghanistan. The country has previously been accused by the US, India, and most importantly by its own politicians and activists of using Afghanistan as a "backyard" to provide safe haven for militants to be used against India.

Senator Sherry Rehman, talking to the BBC, said that it would be a mistake for Pakistan to once again see Afghanistan as a “strategic backyard”.

Meanwhile, the former chairperson for Pakistan’s senate committee for human rights, Afrasiab Khattak, has come under fire from the state for his blunt criticism of Pakistan’s previous mistakes.

“Basically [the Taliban] are against the concept of a modern state,” he said. “Unfortunately, they are being supported from the outside.

“And those supporting them will pay a heavy price just the way they did in the past."

Posted at 8:10 'TALIBAN INTENSIFYING HUNT FOR PEOPLE WHO COLLABORATED WITH US AND NATO TROOPS'
A UN document says the Taliban are intensifying their hunt for people who worked for and collaborated with Nato and US forces.

The confidential paper was produced by the Norwegian Centre for Global Analyses, which provides the UN with intelligence information.

“The Taliban are arresting and/or threatening to kill or arrest family members of target individuals unless they surrender themselves to the Taliban,” the document, seen by the BBC said.

It said that those at particular risk were people with positions in the military, police and investigative units.

“The Taliban have been conducting advance mapping of individuals prior to take take-over of all major cities,” it said.

It added that the militants were screening for individuals while permitting some evacuation of foreign personnel from Kabul airport but the situation there remained “chaotic”.

According to the report, the Taliban are recruiting new informer networks to collaborate with the new regime.

Posted at 7:02 PROTESTS ON INDEPENDENCE DAY
National flag-waving Afghans have been seen protesting in several cities on Thursday, which marks the 102nd anniversary of Afghanistan's independence and falls at a time of great uncertainty and upheaval for the country.

One clip shared on social media appears to show a crowd in Kabul chanting "our flag, our identity" about the black, red and green tricolour national flag.

The Reuters news agency, citing witnesses, reports that several people may have been killed at a similar protest on Thursday in Asadabad - either by gunfire or in stampedes the firing triggered.

The reports of casualties come a day after several deaths were also reported at flag-related demonstrations in the eastern city of Jalalabad.

Videos on social media have shown some protesters appearing to remove and replace Taliban flags in places - pocket displays of defiance against the group's swift rise to power.

Posted at 6:46 UK AMBASSADOR PERSONALLY PROCESSING VISAS IN KABUL
The UK's Ambassador in Afghanistan, Sir Laurie Bristow, has remained in Kabul to help the evacuation of remaining Britons and has also been personally processing visa applications at the airport.

He has been praised for putting his own evacuation plans on hold, with people including the leader of the UK's Labour party, Sir Keir Starmer thanking him for staying behind to help.

Sir Laurie, who only took up his position as Ambassador in June, said on Wednesday that his team was working on the basis that they have "days not weeks" to get British nationals and Afghan's who worked with the UK's armed forces to safety.

While several countries have already evacuated their embassy staff, Bristow joined the French and American Ambassadors, who have also remained at Kabul airport.

#1  “But it will also be added that ISI defeated America (in Afghanistan) with America's help."

Yeah, we gave the Paks billions of dollars every year the whole time we were fighting the Taliban and they no doubt used the money to arm and supply the Taliban so, in effect, we were fighting ourselves. Don't tell me the money went into different buckets. Money is fungible like water. One bucket gets low and you just pour more water into it from another bucket. Our own government gave aid and comfort to the enemy they sent our troops to fight. Isn't that the very definition of treason?

And how do you suppose our military personnel feel knowing that their own government was supplying their enemy?

If our government had evidence of these thefts and did not prosecute then it's just as bad as giving it directly to the Taliban. Either way, sending our troops to fight in those circumstances was criminal.

Report: Taliban Killing People Found with Bibles on Their Phones
[Breitbart] The Taliban is killing people in Afghanistan they find with copies of the Bible on their mobile phones, a Christian non-profit denounced on Tuesday.

According to SAT-7, an organization that broadcasts Christian programs to churches and Christians in the Middle East and North Africa, the Taliban is using "spies and informants" to persecute the Christian minority in the country.

"We’re hearing from reliable sources that the Taliban demand people’s phones, and if they find a downloaded Bible on your device, they will kill you immediately," said SAT-7 North America President Dr. Rex Rogers told Religion News Service. "It’s incredibly dangerous right now for Afghans to have anything Christian on their phones. The Taliban have spies and informants everywhere."

Other Christian nonprofits and ministries that specialize in assisting persecuted Christians around the world have been sounding the alarm as well, emphasizing the ruthless nature of Taliban leadership. A Christian contact of one Release International partner described the situation as "dire" in a report published Monday. Release International is a Christian ministry that also assists persecuted Christians around the world.

"Our brothers and sisters in Christ are telling us how afraid they are. In the areas that the Taliban now control girls are not allowed to go to school and women are not allowed to leave their homes without a male companion," said Micah, a name assigned to him to protect his identity.

Afghans clash with Taliban for 2nd day; Biden vows to get U.S. evacuees out
[UPI] Aug. 19 (UPI) -- For the second straight day, throngs of protesters took to the streets in Afghanistan to show disapproval for the abrupt Taliban takeover, as U.S. President Joe Biden said troops may be kept there until all Americans are safely evacuated.

Officials said that several people involved in the new demonstrations were killed when Taliban fighters opened fire on them in Asadabad, which is located in eastern Afghanistan about 110 miles east of Kabul.

The demonstrators were waving the Afghan national flag while celebrating the country's independence from Britain on Aug. 19, 1919.

Multiple protesters were also killed Wednesday after clashing with Taliban fighters in Jalalabad, Afghanistan's fifth-largest city.

New York shop owner who called cops on BLM protesters ordered to pay $4.5K
[FoxNews] The ruling stemmed from a lawsuit by Attorney General Letitia James against David Elmendorf, the former owner of Bumpy’s Polar Freeze in Schenectady

A former ice cream shop owner in Upstate New York who was accused of calling police and falsely claiming to be threatened by non-violent Black Lives Matter protesters last year was ordered Wednesday to pay them a total of $4,500 for violating their civil rights.

The judge's ruling stemmed from a lawsuit by state Attorney General Letitia James against David Elmendorf, former owner of Bumpy’s Polar Freeze in Bumpy’s Polar Freeze, about 167 miles north of New York City.

Under the ruling, Elmendorf must pay $500 each to nine protesters he harassed, totaling $4,500.

Elmendorf's defense attorney, James Mermigis, said the allegations were "categorically false" and that his client's name was being smeared. Mermigis said Elmendorf was never properly served a summons, so no defense was made in court.

James' lawsuit was the first to rely, in part, on a new law that makes it illegal to submit a false "race-based" police report. The law was passed last year after a White woman called 911 on a Black birdwatcher in New York City’s Central Park and falsely claimed he was threatening her, reports said.

Elmendorf is accused of violating state law by making "multiple armed threats, including death threats, using derogatory racist language, against peaceful Black protestors and made false reports to the police regarding those protestors," the suit alleges.

The protesters went to his business in June 2020 to demonstrate after racist text messages Elmendorf allegedly wrote were shared on social media.

Elmendorf was also accused of calling 911 to falsely report that there were "20 armed protestors who were threatening to shoot him," according to the lawsuit. He allegedly referred to the Black protesters as "savages," the suit added.

"There is zero tolerance for harassment, intimidation, or violence of any kind against anyone in New York," James said. "As this nation continues to be plagued by division and hate, this decision sends a critical and clear message that those who perpetuate racism and discrimination, including filing false, race-based police reports, will be held to the fullest extent of the law."

"This is an important step forward, but our work isn’t over — we will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that every New Yorker feels safe and protected," James added.

Elmendorf is permanently barred from making future threats against people because of their race. He's also barred from brandishing a deadly weapon within 1,000 feet "of any person or group of persons peacefully protesting."

Elmendorf is now working in a different state.

Home Front: WoT
Arizona governor to keep National Guard at the border for another year
[FoxNews] Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey announced Wednesday that he's keeping National Guard members at the U.S.-Mexico border for another year, citing an "escalating man-made crisis at the border."

"The Biden-Harris administration has utterly failed to secure the border," said Ducey, in a news release by his office. "It’s clear that this White House has neither the ability nor the desire to address the border disaster — a crisis of their own making."

"Illegal immigrant apprehensions are the highest in two decades. Law enforcement is overwhelmed. The situation is out of control. This situation is the direct result of reckless policies and failed communication by President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris," he added.

More than 150 Arizona National Guard members were deployed to the border in April after Ducey, a Republican, issued an emergency declaration in response to the growing migrant crisis that overwhelmed local officials.

Last week, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas announced that 212,672 migrants were encountered at the southern border in July, a 13% increase over the already massive 188,000 migrant encounters in June. In July 2020, there were just 40,929 encounters.

On Friday, Ducey called on Mayorkas to resign following leaked audio that showed the Biden administration official admitting the border crisis was "unsustainable."

The Guard is involved with data analysis, monitoring, and maintaining border cameras, providing logistics and administrative support to local law enforcement, and helping with medical operations at detention centers, according to Ducey's office.

"The brave men and women of the Arizona National Guard are standing in the gaps," Ducey said Wednesday. "Their mission directly contributes to the success of law enforcement officers working to maintain law and order on Arizona’s southern border. I’m grateful to all those who serve our state and are working day and night to keep Arizonans safe."

The operation will be funded with $25 million from the 2022 budget, FOX 10 Phoenix reported.

In April 2018, Ducey sent members of the Guard to help the Border Patrol boost security following a request from then-President Donald Trump.

The last troops on that mission left in November 2020, said Maj. Kyle Key, a Guard spokesman.

Home Front: Politix
Epic Fail -The 780 Top National Security Advisors who supported Biden appear to have gotten it all wrong.
[Breaking Defense OCT 2020] Speaking publicly and in alarming terms about a partisan political issue does not come naturally to retired generals and former senior national security leaders. These public servants, many of them wartime commanders and leaders, are not given to histrionics or hyperbole. So when hundreds (it’s now up to 780) of national security leaders — including 22 retired four-star general officers and five former Defense Secretaries who’ve served in both Republican and Democratic administrations — put their names on a public letter supporting former Vice President Joe Biden’s run for the White House, Breaking Defense contributor James Kitfield interviewed a cross section of them to find out why.

"All of us who spent careers in the military were raised on the notion that you lead by example, and President Trump has been the antithesis of that in dealing with this pandemic," said Charles "Steve" Abbot, former commander of the U.S. Sixth Fleet and deputy Homeland Security Adviser. "Instead of taking steps that I would call ’Crisis Management 101,’ President Trump shirked his duty to the nation by failing to provide the central leadership necessary to get our arms around the problem, and he continues to mislead the entire nation about this terrible threat. The result of that failure of leadership was that his administration committed an unrelenting string of missteps, and the American public has lost trust in what the president tells them."

The final straw for Abbot was President Trump’s attack on mail-in balloting during a general election beset by a pandemic, insisting without evidence that it will lead to "the most rigged election in history." That sustained attack on the legitimacy of a presidential election could all but portend a constitutional crisis in a close contest.

"If you want to know why hundreds of us who devoted our lives to service signed a letter saying we feared for our country, look no further than the spectacle of a commander-in-chief threatening not to support a peaceful transition of power if one is required. That’s an effort to undermine our democracy," Abbot said in an interview. "So, as a Navy man, I would tell you that the ship of state had already taken on a bad list during this pandemic. And President Trump’s insistence that he may not accept the results of the election is a torpedo in the water."

The signatories criticisms fall into some broad categories:

BELITTLING AND BULLYING ALLIES
President Trump’s America First foreign policy does not mesh with the worldview of most senior military and national security leaders. Trump is strictly transactional on the matter of burden-sharing and other issues related to our allies, and he has repeatedly expressed a view of alliances as little more than protection rackets. He also frequently goes out of his way to belittle and bully venerable allies, variously calling the Canadian prime minister "dishonest" and "weak," Germany’s chancellor "stupid," and the French prime minister "very, very nasty."

Europe
Europe's Afghan Crime Wave Is Mind-Boggling
A taste.
[NationalInterest] Afghans stand out among the refugees committing crimes in Austria and elsewhere. Why?

But there was one development that had not been expected, and was not tolerable: the large and growing incidence of sexual assaults committed by refugees against local women. These were not of the cultural-misunderstanding-date-rape sort, but were vicious, no-preamble attacks on random girls and women, often committed by gangs or packs of young men. At first, the incidents were downplayed or hushed up—no one wanted to provide the right wing with fodder for nationalist agitation, and the hope was that these were isolated instances caused by a small problem group of outliers. As the incidents increased, and because many of them took place in public or because the public became involved either in stopping the attack or in aiding the victim afterwards, and because the courts began issuing sentences as the cases came to trial, the matter could no longer be swept under the carpet of political correctness. And with the official acknowledgment and public reporting, a weird and puzzling footnote emerged. Most of the assaults were being committed by refugees of one particular nationality: by Afghans.

Actually Afghans should not even have been part of the refugee tide, at least not in significant numbers. It was the Syrians who were expected. Afghanistan, a place of lingering and chronic conflict, is no longer on the official refugee roster—that’s reserved for acute political and military emergencies. Still, European authorities and the public were sympathetic, and could understand why Afghans would want to leave a country rife with suicide bombings and empty of opportunity. Also, Europeans held a baseline positive sentiment towards Afghanistan. Many baby-boomer Europeans had, in their hippie days of yore, traversed that country in the legendary VW buses, and retained fond memories of friendly, hospitable people. Later everyone had mourned the loss of the Bamiyan Buddhas and felt for the poor people suffering under Taliban rule. And after that, NATO had been part of the “coalition of the willing.” Europeans were predisposed to be positive towards Afghan refugees. But it quickly became obvious that something was wrong, very wrong, with these young Afghan men: they were committing sex crimes to a much greater extent than other refugees, even those from countries that were equally or more backward, just as Islamic and conservative, and arguably just as misogynist.

It took a while for the pattern to be recognized because, until recently, western European media deliberately refrained from identifying an assailant’s refugee or asylum status, or his country of origin. Only when the correlation became so dramatic that it was itself newsworthy did this policy change. At that point, it became clear that the authorities had known about, and for political reasons had deliberately covered up, large-scale incidences of sexual assault by migrants. For example, a gang of fifty Afghans who terrorized women in the neighborhood of the Linz train station had been brushed off by a government official with the remark that this was an unfortunate consequence of bad weather, and that once summer came the young men would disperse into the public parks and no longer move in such a large, menacing pack. The public was not amused.

I could write the same report about Sweden, Germany, or any other country of asylum in Europe, but I am focusing on examples from Austria because that’s the European country I come from and know best.

What is going on here? And why, why, why the Afghans? According to Austrian police statistics, Syrian refugees cause fewer than 10 percent of sexual assault cases. Afghans, whose numbers are comparable, are responsible for a stunning half of all cases.

This brings us to a third, more compelling and quite disturbing theory—the one that my Afghan friend, the court translator, puts forward. On the basis of his hundreds of interactions with these young men in his professional capacity over the past several years, he believes to have discovered that they are motivated by a deep and abiding contempt for Western civilization. To them, Europeans are the enemy, and their women are legitimate spoils, as are all the other things one can take from them: housing, money, passports. Their laws don’t matter, their culture is uninteresting and, ultimately, their civilization is going to fall anyway to the horde of which one is the spearhead. No need to assimilate, or work hard, or try to build a decent life here for yourself—these Europeans are too soft to seriously punish you for a transgression, and their days are numbered.

And it’s not just the sex crimes, my friend notes. Those may agitate public sentiment the most, but the deliberate, insidious abuse of the welfare system is just as consequential. Afghan refugees, he says, have a particular proclivity to play the system: to lie about their age, to lie about their circumstances, to pretend to be younger, to be handicapped, to belong to an ethnic minority when even the tired eye of an Austrian judge can distinguish the delicate features of a Hazara from those of a Pashtun.

In search of an answer, perhaps we should take a closer look at the victims. We have eliminated improper attire and an unwittingly seductive manner, but might they have any other traits in common to shed light on why they became the targets of such madness? Reviewing them, one word comes to mind: fulfillment. A Turkish exchange student, happy to be advancing her education in industrial design at a good university in Vienna. A girl in a park, enjoying the sunshine. Two friends, taking their babies for a walk. A mother, enjoying a summer stroll with her two children. A contented old lady, out with her pet. Attractive, accomplished, happy, normal people . . . an unbearable sight, perhaps, to—and here I must agree with President Trump—losers. That is what he proposed we should call terrorists, and he is right. These young men, even minus a suicide vest, are losers, which has inspired them to become social terrorists.

Something Is Very Wrong Here With Latest News About Biden
[Right Scoop] Now, there’s been a lot wrong, right down the line, when it comes to how Joe Biden has dealt with the debacle in Afghanistan.

But one of the main problems with his administration is the failure to actually speak frankly and with transparency with the American people. They started this off very badly with both Biden and White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki being on vacation. Biden didn’t even come back until Monday to make his speech. Then he went back to Camp David, and then came back to make a speech today. But that speech, as we previously reported, isn’t on Afghanistan, it’s on the Wuhan coronavirus. That’s stunning. Not exactly the thing that is most pressing with thousands of Americans and allies in danger in Afghanistan.

The national security team just held a briefing and it was a clown car affair that my colleague Streiff will be covering. But suffice to say, Gen. Milley and Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin would lose their jobs in a real administration. Their responses were just horrific and it would be scary to have these people in charge of a public toilet much less in charge of our military response.

But when Bret Baier appeared on America’s Newsroom on Fox with Bill Hemmer and Dana Perino this morning, they discussed the lack of transparency of Biden and the major players, the failure of the administration to really speak on what is going on in-country. This was prior to the Milley/Austin briefing. Baier said that according to their sources, after the COVID speech, he was hearing that Biden would be heading back to Wilmington, Delaware to continue with his vacation either today or tomorrow.

#2  In short, yes. Joe Biden did indeed undergo brain surgery on two occasions, both in 1988. In February of that year, he suffered from several episodes of increasingly severe neck pain. According to The New York Times, he attributed the pain to a pinched nerve and a viral infection.

One day, while he was alone in a hotel room, Biden felt a sharp, stabbing pain at the back of his neck. In his autobiography, Promises to Keep, Biden wrote that the pain was like nothing he had ever experienced and that he lay unconscious on the floor for five hours after it occurred. The next day, he went into a Delaware hospital for testing and was quickly rushed to Walter Reed Army Medical Center.
There, he underwent a lifesaving, six-hour surgical procedure to fix an aneurysm that had begun leaking at the base of his brain. In May of 1988, Biden underwent a second operation to repair another aneurysm on the opposite side of his brain. This second aneurysm had not caused any symptoms but was at risk of bursting.
During the 2008 presidential race (in which Biden was running for vice president), Dr. Eisold, the Capitol physician, said that Biden had “recovered fully without continued effects” from the aneurysms he had experienced 20 years prior. Further medical documentation revealed that he had relatively minor health problems in 2008, including chronic sinusitis and allergies.

Fast forward to the current presidential race,{2020} where some people are wondering whether Biden’s brain surgeries could indicate that he is not a good fit for the job ?
One person who felt comfortable weighing in on that question was Dr. Neal Kassell — Joe Biden’s former brain surgeon.

In a 2019 interview, Dr. Kassell said that Biden did not suffer any brain damage from the aneurysms (or the surgeries) that could come back to haunt him now, decades later. “He is every bit as sharp as he was 31 years ago. I haven’t seen any change,” Dr. Kassell said. “I can tell you with absolute certainty that he had no brain damage, either from the hemorrhage or from the operations that he had. There was no damage whatsoever.”

He then went one step further, saying about his vote in the upcoming election: “I am going to vote for the candidate who I am absolutely certain has a brain that is functioning. And that narrows it down exactly to one.”

Have you seen your patient LATELY Doc ?

Constitutional expert warns looming Durham report has Beltway 'rattled'
[WND] The looming report on the manipulation of the nation's legal system by those in the Barack Obama administration to pursue the now-debunked "Russia collusion" allegations against President Trump has those in the Beltway "rattled," according to an analysis by constitutional expert Jonathan Turley.

"For good reason," noted the Shapiro Professor of Public Interest Law at George Washington University.

For two years, Durham, a former U.S. attorney, has been investigating what happened that allowed those in the establishment, inside the government in Washington, to manipulate evidence, as one FBI already has confessed, and more, to pursue the campaign against Trump.

The DOJ's inspector general already has released a long list of offenses that were committed during the Obama administration's work, and the FISA court, which was convinced to authorize spying on the Trump campaign with evidence that apparently was made up, has rescinded some of his authorizations.

Afghanistan
Israeli Publication Slams Biden Over Afghanistan, Issues Warning Americans Need to Hear
[Western Journal] In the midst of the Vietnam War, during one of the many moments when America was potentially set to betray the South Vietnamese side, former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger warned that if we did, "the word will go out to the nations of the world that it may be dangerous to be America’s enemy, but to be America’s friend is fatal."

Kissinger’s warning would prove prophetic when Vietnam eventually fell; at the time, it was a major setback in our struggle against the Soviet bloc. Over a quarter-century since the USSR self-destructed, our enemies are more diffuse — even if one, China, looms large.

In one of America’s closest friends, Israel, one publication is sounding the alarm over whether a fatal decision has been made.

In the wake of Afghanistan’s fall, The Jerusalem Post — a centrist publication that’s one of the Jewish state’s oldest newspapers — published an analysis piece that questioned America’s dedication to its allies in the Middle East.

"After Afghanistan, the US will have to reassure allies and partners that it will remain somewhere in the world," the Post’s Seth J. Frantzman wrote in the Sunday piece. "As American officials speak about ’forever wars’ and wasting ’treasure’ around the world, there are concerns about what comes next.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Palestinian teen arrested for attempted West Bank stabbing
[IsraelTimes] Israeli security guards arrest a Paleostinian teenager who the Defense Ministry says ran toward them with a knife at a checkpoint between the West Bank and Israel.

According to the ministry, the 15-year-old ran toward the guards from the West Bank side of the Gilboa Crossing. They called for him to halt and aimed their guns at him.

"The suspect stopped, lifted up his shirt [to show he was not wearing an boom belt] and threw a knife away," the ministry says.

The guards arrested the teenager, a resident of the Jenin refugee camp, and handed him over to the Shin Bet security service for questioning.

The teenager appeared to be the relative of one of four suspected snuffies killed in a shootout with Israeli security forces earlier this week.

The Defense Ministry later released a photograph of the kitchen knife that was in the suspect’s possession.

Journalist Joe Galloway, Vietnam War chronicler and author of 'We Were Soldiers Once,' dies at 79
[USAToday] WASHINGTON (AP) — Longtime American foreign correspondent Joseph L. Galloway, best known for his book recounting a pivotal battle in the Vietnam War that was made into a Hollywood movie, has died. He was 79.

A native of Refugio, Texas, Galloway spent 22 years as a war correspondent and bureau chief for United Press International, including serving four tours in Vietnam. He then worked for U.S. News & World Report magazine and Knight Ridder newspapers in a series of overseas roles, including reporting from the Persian Gulf War in 1991.

Galloway died Wednesday morning, his wife Grace Galloway told AP, after being hospitalized near their home in Concord, North Carolina. He is also survived by two sons and a step daughter.

"He was the kindest, most gentle and loving man," Grace Galloway said. "He loved the boys and girls of the U.S. military. He loved his country."

Afghanistan
Taliban blow up statue of foe they killed in 1996, stoking more fear over rule
[IsraelTimes] The Taliban
...Arabic for students...
have blown up the statue of a Shiite militia leader who fought against them during Afghanistan’s civil war in the 1990s, according to photos circulating on Wednesday, sowing further doubt about their claims to have become more moderate.

The krazed killers’ every action in their sudden sweep to power is being watched closely. They insist they have changed and won’t impose the same draconian restrictions they did when they last ruled Afghanistan, all but eliminating women’s rights, carrying out public executions, and banning television and music.

As Afghans and the international community look to see if the Taliban will make good on their promises, photos circulated on social media of the destroyed statue. It depicted Abdul Ali Mazari, a militia leader killed by the Taliban in 1996, when the Islamic hard boyz seized power from rival warlords. Mazari was a champion of Afghanistan’s ethnic Hazara
...a grouping of Dari-speaking people of Sino-Tibetan descent inhabiting Afghanistan and Pakistain. They are predominantly Shia Moslems and not particularly warlike, which makes them favored targets...
minority, Shiites who were persecuted under the Sunni Taliban’s earlier rule.

The statue stood in the central Bamyan province, where the Taliban infamously blew up two massive 1,500-year-old statues of Buddha carved into a mountain in 2001, shortly before the US-led invasion that drove them from power. The Taliban claimed the Buddhas violated Islam’s prohibition on idolatry.

Afghanistan
Biden commits to getting all Americans out of Afghanistan
"you're focked"
[10 News] President Joe Biden said he is willing to keep U.S. troops in Afghanistan until every American who wants to leave the country is evacuated.

"Americans should understand that we're gonna try to get it done before Aug. 31st," Biden said in an interview with ABC News' George Stephanopoulos.

The president previously set an Aug. 31 deadline to end the U.S. military mission in Afghanistan.

But when pressed on whether Americans would be left behind, Biden told Stephanopoulos that he would be willing to stay beyond the deadline if more Americans needed to be evacuated.

Up to 15,000 Americans were reportedly in Afghanistan following the Taliban's takeover.

In the interview, Biden defended the Afghanistan withdrawal despite the chaotic nature of the past week.

"The idea that somehow there's a way to have gotten out without chaos ensuing, I don't know how that happens," Biden said.

Biden added that no one expected the Taliban to take over Afghanistan in a matter of days.

Make the company pay the customers damages to correct and secure their credit profile with credit protection for 5 years.

The SSA & Fed are in seriously need of updated & new restrictions on the use and handling of ALL SSN ID #'s. Like allowing only the last 4 #'s to be stored by the commercial and Medical world.

Because, the Social Security Admin Number was NEVER designed to be used as a Universal National ID. In fact up until the later 1970's our original SSN cards were printed with ...

DHS Secretary Can’t Cite Any Law Authorizing Obama To Give Illegal Aliens Social Security Numbers…

CNSNews.com asked Johnson: “A federal court in Texas v. United States has said giving an illegal alien a Social Security Number is not an act of prosecutorial discretion. What specific law gives the president the authority to give a Social Security Number to a foreign national in the country illegally?”

Rather than answer the question, Johnson instead noted that the administration has appealed the court’s injunction against the administration’s unilateral action on immigration.

He said: “Well, that’s a case that’s on appeal right now. We disagree with the district court’s decision but that’s what appellate courts are for. We’ve appealed the decision. We’re asking for a stay of the injunction. We went to the district judge first and the matter will be resolved in a few days. So that’s in litigation. I believe that the injunction will be reversed in a matter of time.”

Obama’s Deferred Action for Parents of Americans and Lawful Permanent Residents Program (DAPA) would grant work permits and Social Security Numbers to as many as five million illegal aliens.

Science & Technology
Is Natural Immunity More Effective Than the COVID Shot?
[TruthBasedMedia] The reason natural immunity is superior to vaccine-induced immunity is because viruses contain five different proteins. The COVID shot induces antibodies against just one of those proteins, the spike protein, and no T cell immunity. When you’re infected with the whole virus, you develop antibodies against all parts of the virus, plus memory T cells.

This also means natural immunity offers better protection against variants, as it recognizes several parts of the virus. If there are significant alternations to the spike protein, as with the Delta variant, vaccine-induced immunity can be evaded. Not so with natural immunity, as the other proteins are still recognized and attacked.

Not only that but the COVID jabs actually actively promote the production of variants for which they provide virtually no protection at all, while those with natural immunity do not cause variants and are nearly universally protected against them.

If we are to depend on vaccine-induced immunity, as public health officials are urging us to do, we’ll end up on a never-ending booster treadmill. Boosters will absolutely be necessary, as the shot offers such narrow protection against a single protein of the virus. Already, Moderna has publicly stated that the need for additional boosters is expected.
We get new flu shots every year. Some years they work better than others, but none are perfect.

Posted by: Raj || 08/19/2021 0:11 Comments || Top||

#2  Pardon my layman ignorance, but isn't natural immunity a nuance of evolution itself? So it arrives concurrently with yet developing diseases and contends with evolving viruses. At its own rate.

What does one do to achieve immunity for something a)exceedingly virulent, (b)deliberately constructed to (c)infect billions suddenly? One surely develops vaccines. As I understand it, this involves exposure in a controlled manner to the very thing. Again, excuse my ignorance if this is not so.

Does one make mistakes because the evil sons of whores have had decades to create their bioweapon and we have only months to find cures and engineer an induced immunity? Sure. I suppose one minimizes the risks to the population too, because without the population... there is no point in lording it over our States, and no one left to lord over.

Is natural immunity more effective than a shot? Definitely. Have you time to evolve it fast enough to fight the rapidly unfolding CoV package of chaos? I think not. One cannot discount the profit motivations of big pharma and the callousness of governments, not to mention the compulsion to control and coerce. Which is where all this mistrust is generated. I think it would be a good idea to examine the science, and not the statistics when forming our opinions. One simply cannot trust the numbers and graphs in a time when more people show up to elect a man than are living in a district. Gromgoru may be casually dismissive of people he thinks are intellectually inferior, an irritating quality to some, but one thing about him he always points to the science of the thing. Of course I am not in favor of boots on the neck immunization or adding the cancel culture to vaccine protocols, but the public should debate and ascertain for themselves, sans fear mongering and blind anti-establishment rhetoric.

Interesting question. What is the better choice for overall health? Get the vaccine, or give up access to what we call healthcare? So defending it would take a lot of soldiers and the road to Kabul would take more. Biden authorized about 6k of troops on 8-15 or so and had he done this two months earlier, Bagram could have been defended. However, when Bagram was abandoned, the authorized number of troops was about 2k and that was not even enough to guard the embassy and HKI

Afghanistan
US freezes assets of Afghanistan central banks as Taliban takeover
At least it’s something. Not that they won’t replenish their funds, between the opium and permitting China to extract a variety of natural resources.
[KhaamaPress] Gandhara has cited a US administration official that the country has frozen the reserve of Afghanistan central bank currently in US accounts to deprive the Taliban
...Arabic for students...
of the assets.

As the official cited Tuesday, August 17, these billions of dollars will not be available for the Taliban.

The decision which will apparently hit millions of people in Afghanistan comes days after the Taliban grabbed control over the entire Afghanistan but Panjsher province.

This decision by Biden’s administration will not only suppress the Taliban leadership and their upcoming government but will also adversely affect the lives of millions of people who are already suffering from drought, unemployment, and poverty.

As per the International Monetary Fund, the central bank of Afghanistan namely De Afghanistan Bank had up to $9.4 billion at the end of April this year.

The assets of Afghanistan does not only include billions of dollars but also gold and US treasuries.

Since the Taliban is yet to be recognized by any country in the world, the situation will make it rather difficult for them to access their external fund.

Some countries have shown green signals for recognition of the Taliban in case they shape an inclusive government and respect women’s rights.

The Taliban spokesperson Zabiullah Mujahid in his first official presser in Kabul said that negotiations over the upcoming government setup are going on and added that there will be an inclusive Islamic government in Afghanistan.
The Times of Israel adds:
The head of Afghanistan’s Central Bank meanwhile said the country’s supply of physical US dollars is "close to zero." Afghanistan has some $9 billion in reserves, Ajmal Ahmady tweeted, but most is held outside the country, with some $7 billion held in US Federal Reserve bonds, assets and gold.

Ahmady said the country did not receive a planned cash shipment amid the Taliban
...Arabic for students...
offensive.

"The next shipment never arrived," he wrote. "Seems like our partners had good intelligence as to what was going to happen."

He said the lack of US dollars will likely lead to a depreciation of the local currency, the afghani, hurting the country’s poor. Afghans have been lining up outside ATM machines for days, with many pulling out their life savings.

Ahmady said the Taliban will struggle to access the country’s reserves because of international sanctions.

The "Taliban won militarily — but now have to govern," he wrote. "It is not easy."

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
IDF allegedly destroyed Hezbollah post in last night's strike in Syria, warning pamphlets from IDF followed
[PUBLISH.TWITTER]

Israel drops threatening flyers in south Syria following nighttime strike nearby

[IsraelTimes] In pamphlets, IDF warns Syrian troops to stop cooperating with Hezbollah and takes responsibility for a June attack on a Syrian base that it says was used by the terror groupA flier dropped on the Syrian side of the border on August 18, 2021.

The Israel Defense Forces reportedly dropped threatening pamphlets in southern Syria on Wednesday, warning Syrian soldiers to stop cooperating with Hezbollah, hours after reportedly conducting twin missile strikes on a Syrian military base and an outpost controlled by the Lebanese terror group.

The flyers, which were written in Arabic and addressed to "Syrian [Arab] Army soldiers," matched the style of similar leaflets that have been dropped in Syria in the past and included the silhouette of an eagle — the symbol of the IDF’s 210th "Bashan" Division, which is tasked with defending Israel’s frontier with Syria and the Golan Heights. The IDF refused to comment on the matter.

In the pamphlet, the Israeli military appeared to take responsibility for the shelling of a Syrian army base earlier this summer. The Israeli military has not publicly acknowledged conducting that strike or most others that it has carried out in Syria in recent years, under its general policy of ambiguity regarding its efforts against Hezbollah in the country.

"Despite our previous warnings about this and even after the attack on the al-Qahtaniah base on 17/06/21, Hezbollah — in a manipulative way — has turned you into a tool, into marionettes. It uses you as its eyes and it uses your bases without you even knowing," the flyer reads.

The flyer also directly names the Hezbollah official that the IDF believes is facilitating the relationship between the Iran-backed terror group and the Syrian military, Jawad Hasham, the son of Hajj Hasham, who leads Hezbollah’s efforts along the Syrian border.

"It is no secret that Jawad Hasham is currently in the Golan and in Daraa. Your filthy actions on behalf of Hezbollah are considered by the Syrian Army to be a top priority," the flyer reads.

The pamphlet accuses the Syrian military of allowing Hezbollah to operate within the bases and under the auspices of its 90th Brigade "in order to develop lookout capabilities and for other efforts."

"Be careful with your actions, you are being watched through a microscope. Hasham’s help has brought you destruction and his bad intentions are coming out. You are responsible for your actions, and Hezbollah is responsible for your suffering," it says.

According to a pro-opposition Syrian source in the Golan Heights, the office of the 90th Brigade commander, Brig. Gen. Hussein Hamoush, near the city of Khader, was one of the two targets of a missile strike on Tuesday night, which Syria said Israel had carried out. The second target was said to be a Hezbollah outpost in the area.

The IDF has repeatedly accused Syrian dictator Bashir al-Assad’s military of actively assisting Hezbollah and warned it against this, both through flyers dropped along the border and through overt, public appeals, in some cases naming the Syrian and Hezbollah officials involved, including officers from Syria’s 90th Brigade and 1st Division.

2. By the US CDC's own words and actions. It is official the Vaccine is only good for +/- 6 months, before a booster is needed for new strain and/or a new Vax is needed.

3. The CDC, Dr. Death and the power grabbing Politicians are the primary reason why so many DO NOT trust the c-19 process.

Afghanistan
Taliban violently disperses one of the first protests against its takeover of Afghanistan
[LA Times] Taliban fighters violently broke up a protest in eastern Afghanistan on Wednesday, killing at least one person as they quashed a rare public show of dissent and as the group’s leaders met with Afghan officials from the toppled Western-backed government.

Video footage later showed Taliban fighters firing into the air and attacking people with batons to disperse the crowd. Babrak Amirzada, a reporter for a local news agency, said he and a TV cameraman from another agency were beaten by the Taliban as they tried to cover the unrest.

A local health official said at least one person was killed and six people were wounded. The official was not authorized to speak to media and spoke on condition of anonymity.

Meanwhile, videos from the Panjshir Valley north of Kabul, a stronghold of the Northern Alliance militias that allied with the U.S. against the Taliban in 2001, appear to show potential opposition figures gathering there. It’s in the only province that hasn’t yet fallen to the Taliban.

Those figures include members of the deposed government — Vice President Amrullah Saleh, who asserted on Twitter that he is the country’s rightful president, and Defense Minister Gen. Bismillah Mohammadi — as well as Ahmad Massoud, the son of the slain Northern Alliance leader Ahmad Shah Massoud. It’s unclear whether they intend to challenge the Taliban, which seized most of the country in a matter of days last week.

Palantir buys $50 million in gold bars...
[ZH] Anyone watching Tuesday's US market cash session sees red across the board. One of the strongest selling programs in months dumped stocks, and equity volatility exploded to the upside. Quite frankly, this could be the beginning of a market storm.

Ahead of what could be further market turmoil, Palantir Technologies warned about an upcoming "black swan event," according to Bloomberg.

The software company, co-founded by the technology billionaire Peter Thiel and CEO Alex Karp, wrote in a filing last week that it stockpiled $50.7 million in gold bars earlier this month.

The filing also said it acquired technology startups, blank-check companies, and even cryptocurrencies. Palantir had previously said it would accept Bitcoin as a form of payment for its services, along with payment in precious metals

Afghanistan
Snapshot of suffering: Afghans trying to reach airport are penned up, beaten by Taliban
[LA Times] At a dusty traffic circle just outside the Kabul airport, amped-up Taliban fighters had corralled hundreds of unarmed Afghans. There, under a punishing afternoon sun, another tragic and tumultuous scene from the U.S. withdrawal played out on Tuesday.

The young men with the Taliban numbered only in the dozens, but the crowds cowered before them. The men fired automatic weapons indiscriminately into the air, and sometimes aimed them at the assembled men, women and children.

The beatings seemed to be administered almost at random, but with chilling deliberateness. Sticks, lengths of rubber hose, knotted rope, rifle butts — the fighters wielded them all.

Some of those on the receiving end of the blows were trying to slip away through a hole in the fence to get inside the airport perimeter, but others were simply squatting on the ground, trying to shield themselves.

This photographer, trying to capture an image of a fighter pointing his gun at the crowd, was whipped in the leg.

Gunfire could be heard every few moments in the traffic circle, which was blocked off by Afghan army vehicles commandeered by the militants when the capital fell. One fighter, after letting loose a volley of shots, directed a smile at one of his comrades.

At least a dozen people were wounded. A woman and child were left covered in blood; a few men in the crowd pulled them across the street to safety, hustling them into a yellow Toyota Corolla taxi that then sped off. An elderly man in a bloodstained sports jacket carried a limp child, whose eyes were open to reveal only the whites.

Biden admin moved to dismantle protections for citizens trapped overseas months before Kabul's fall: memo
[FoxNews] Contingency and Crisis Response Bureau (CCR) was created during Trump administration

The Biden administration moved in June to dismantle a system designed to protect American citizens trapped abroad — just months before the Taliban took over Afghanistan, stranding thousands of Americans in the Central Asian country.

Fox News has obtained the June 11 memo sent around the State Department which gave the green light on the "discontinuation of the establishment, and the termination of, the Contingency and Crisis Response Bureau (CCR)."

The sensitive but unclassified memo was signed by Deputy Secretary of State Brian McKeon, just a couple of months before the Biden administration’s botched troop withdrawal that saw Afghanistan fall under Taliban control.

CCR was formed under Trump-era Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and was tasked with providing "aviation, logistics, and medical support capabilities for the Department's operational bureaus, thereby enhancing the secretary's ability to protect American citizens overseas in connection with overseas evacuations in the aftermath of a natural or man-made disaster."

The bureau could have played a role in the response to the Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan, where thousands of American citizens and allies are trapped behind terrorist lines.

A State Department spokesperson told Fox News in a Wednesday email that it "is important to note that not only would the proposed Contingency and Crisis Response Bureau not have introduced any new capabilities to the Department, it was never formally established."

"Some administrative steps were taken before its establishment was paused, but the day-to-day operations of the team have not changed," the spokesperson said.

"Every requirement the Department delivered on last year, and since the proposed establishment of the bureau, can be delivered on today in the same manner if appropriate to do so," they continued.

A State Department official stressed to Fox News that none of the capabilities provided by the bureau have gone away. That official characterized the bureau as being in its early stages at the time, saying Secretary of State Antony Blinken had requested a review on it soon after he joined the department earlier this year.

[REGNUM] Former Deputy Minister of Integration and Health of Albania, Albert Gayo, was arrested on August 18 on suspicion of deliberately setting fire to a dry forest.

According to the Albanian news agency Telegrafi, the 59-year-old man lives in Tirana. The materials were transferred to the Prosecutor's Office of the Korca Judicial District.

Recall that in conditions of elevated temperatures and strong winds, the likelihood of an uncontrolled heat increases, but it is the aggravation of these factors by human actions that is destructive.

Are Ethiopian troops using Iranian drones in the Tigray war?
[Garowe] With the Æthiopian conflict now spilling over from Tigray to other neighboring states such as Afar and Amhara, there have been reports that Æthiopia National Defense Forces [ENDF] have been using sophisticated drones from Iran

Polish army deployed to Belarus border amid migrant surge
[EN.ALGHADEERTV.NET] Poland has deployed hundreds of troops to support its border guards at the frontier with Belarus as a surge of refugees and migrants colonists sought to enter the country.Defence Minister Mariusz Blaszczak said on Wednesday that more than 900 Polish troops were involved in the operation.

It is understood that most of the refugees and migrants colonists trying to cross are from Iraq.

Late on Tuesday, a Polish deputy interior minister tweeted that the border with Belarus is sealed and that the soldiers have been there for a week.

Poland, like Lithuania and other Baltic nations, accuses the authoritarian government of Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko of sending people across their borders.

They believe Minsk’s moves are retaliatory.

The European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
imposed sanctions on Belarus following a disputed presidential election last year — which the West saw as rigged, as well as for harsh repressions on Belarusian protesters.

On Wednesday, EU ministers also held emergency talks "to determine concrete measures and forms of assistance to the affected states in managing and containing illegal crossings at the border with Belarus, also from the aspect of security at this section of the external EU border," the Slovenian EU presidency said.

More than 4,100 refugees and migrants colonists have arrived in Lithuania so far this year and are being sheltered in temporary camps across the country.

Lithuania’s border guard service released video footage on Wednesday which it said reveals that migrants colonists are being pushed across the border into EU territory by Belarus riot police.

After talks with Lithuanian Prime Minister Ingrida Simonyte on Wednesday, EU Parliament President David Sassoli accused Lukashenko, once dubbed Europe’s last dictator, of "exploiting these poor people, men and women."

"I have seen these outrageous actions when officials push people across the border. It is both an issue of human rights
...which are usually entirely different from personal liberty...
, and also a question of protecting the border of the EU," Sassoli said. "It is an organised activity of the Lukashenko regime."

On the eve of the meeting, German Chancellor Angela Merkel
...chancellor of Germany and the impetus behind Germany's remarkably ill-starred immigration program. Merkel used to be referred to by Germans as Mom. Now they make faces at her for inundating the country with Moslem colonists...
and Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas accused Lukashenko of launching a "hybrid attack" against the 27-nation bloc by channelling migrants colonists to Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Poland in retaliation over the EU’s sanctions.

"We agree that this is hybrid aggression that uses human beings," Merkel said after their talks in Berlin.

Kallas said that "this is no refugee crisis, but this is a hybrid attack on the European Union."

Merkel said she would raise the issue with Russian President Vladimir Putin
...President-for-Life of Russia. He gets along well with other presidents for life. He is credited with bringing political stability and re-establishing something like the rule of law, which occasionally results in somebody dropping dead from poisoning by polonium or other interesting substance. Under Putin, a new group of business magnates controlling significant swathes of Russia's economy has emerged, all of whom have close personal ties to him. The old bunch, without close personal ties to Putin, are in jail or in exile or dead from poisoning by polonium or other interesting substances...
in Moscow on Friday.

#3  I will bet that all the “Americans” are immigrants that worked here till they got their papers and could draw social security. They then went back home. If true the Taliban will not kill them as long as they donate their SS to them. If what I surmise is true then plank them. The IRS should start looking into this. Biden administration says asylum officers and not judges will consider cases for migrants in an effort to speed up the huge backlog amid the chaos at the border
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news]
  • President Joe Biden's administration will unveil a major overhaul of the U.S. asylum system on Wednesday

  • The new proposed rule would authorize asylum officers to decide whether or not to approve a claim for protection at the Mexico border

  • Officers would bypass backlogged immigration courts where cases can often take years to be resolved by judges

  • The Biden administration aims to hire an additional 1,000 asylum officers and another 1,000 support staff

  • The hiring spree would more than double the current crop of about 800 asylum officers

  • The new process is the biggest proposed change to the asylum system since Biden took office in January

Afghanistan
At least three dead following anti-Taliban protests in Jalalabad
[PUBLISH.TWITTER]

About 5,000 diplomats, security staff, aid workers, and Afghans have been evacuated from Kabul in the last 24 hours and military flights will continue around the clock, a Western official said.

"Everyone wants out," said a member of an Afghan family after they arrived in Germany. "Every day is worse than the day before. We saved ourselves but we couldn’t rescue our families."

The United Nations
...where theory meets practice and practice loses...
said it had begun moving up to 100 international staff temporarily to Kazakhstan, but stressed it is "committed to staying and delivering in support of the Afghan people in their hour of need". The U.N. has about 300 international staff and 3,000 local staff in Afghanistan.

Britannia’s ambassador to Afghanistan said his team had evacuated about 700 people on Tuesday while Germany’s foreign minister said it had evacuated 500 people in total.

The Taliban
...mindless ferocity in a turban...
have suggested they will impose their laws less severely than during their former rule, and a bigwig said on Wednesday that the group’s leaders would be less reclusive than in the past.

"Slowly, gradually, the world will see all our leaders," the senior Taliban official said.
Khaama Press adds:
Tens of people protested in eastern Jalalabad city of Nangarhar
The unfortunate Afghan province located adjacent to Mohmand, Kurram, and Khyber Agencies. The capital is Jalalabad. The province was the fief of Younus Khalis after the Soviets departed and one of his sons is the current provincial Taliban commander. Nangarhar is Haqqani country..
province for flying Afghanistan’s-black, red, green-colored- flag which led to violence between them and the Taliban
...Arabic for students...
fighters.

Eyewitnesses said that the Taliban fighters launched indiscriminate fires at protesters during which two were killed and several more maimed.

Protesters are asking the Taliban to let the flag fly throughout the country and do not change it with the new one-colored white.

Local residents in Jalalabad city said that the Taliban have also beaten two local journalists as they wanted to cover the protest.

Meanwhile,
...back at the the conspirators' cleverly concealed hideout the long-awaited message arrived. They quickly got to work with their decoder rings...
tens of youngsters also gathered for the very cause in the neighboring province of Kunar bordering Pakistain.

Video clips from Asadabad city of Kunar province
... which is right down the road from Chitral. Kunar is Haqqani country.....
show that protesters have managed to fly the flag over a minaret in the scenic provincial capital.

In southeastern Afghanistan, Khost province
... across the border from Miranshah, within commuting distance of Haqqani hangouts such as Datta Khel and probably within sight of Mordor. Khost is populated by six different tribes of Pashtuns, the largest probably being the Khostwal, from which it takes its name...
also witnessed a similar protest which turned violent mostly peaceful and the Taliban launched indiscriminate fires but no casualties were reported.

The protest and plea on social media for keeping the flag come as people around the country celebrate August 19-Independence day of Afghanistan- carrying and flying the flag on cars and rooftops every year on this day.

Dozens Of U.S.-Bought Afghan Air Force Aircraft Are Now Orphaned At An Uzbek Airfield
[TheDrive] As the chaos at Hamid Karzai International Airport in Afghanistan's capital Kabul was beginning to unfold after the Taliban entered the city on Sunday, an entirely different kind of exodus was underway from the country's northern regions. Satellite imagery confirms that dozens of fixed-wing aircraft, such as A-29 Super Tucano light attack planes, and helicopters, including UH-60 Black Hawks, from the now-defunct Afghan armed forces, originally supplied by the United States, are sitting at Termez Airport in neighboring Uzbekistan.

An image, taken yesterday, Aug. 16, 2021, of Termez from Planet Labs shows the sudden appearance of at least 22 small fixed-wing planes and 26 helicopters. The resolution of the imagery means we can't say for sure that all of these aircraft came fled from Afghanistan. However, what we can see fits almost perfectly with an official statement from the government of Uzbekistan that 46 aircraft, 22 fixed-wing types and 24 helicopters, coming out of Afghanistan had been "forced" to land.
I'll be looking to see a few Super Tucanos on eBay...
