#1  Monica Elizabeth "Mona" Freeman (June 9, 1926 – May 23, 2014) was an American actress and painter.
Freeman was born in Baltimore, Maryland, and grew up in Pelham, New York. A lumberman's daughter, she was a model while in high school, and was selected the first "Miss Subways" of the New York City transit system in 1940.

Paramount Pictures signed Freeman to a contract after she moved to Hollywood. She eventually signed a movie contract with Howard Hughes.

Her contract was later sold to Paramount Pictures. Her first film appearance was in the 1944 film Till We Meet Again. She became a popular teenage movie star. After a series of roles as a pretty, naive teenager, she complained of being typecast.

As an adult, Freeman's career slowed and she appeared in mostly B-movies, though an exception was her role in the film noir Angel Face (1952). She also co-starred in the hit film Jumping Jacks with the comedy team of Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis.

Freeman's appearances in films ended in the 1950s, but she continued to work in television until 1961.

Freeman was a portrait painter and concentrated on painting after 1961. Her best-known portrait is that of businesswoman Mary See, founder of See's Candies.

Comrade Down: Senate Forces Biden to Dump OCC Nominee, Lenin Scholar
She was too toxic even for some Dems (who seek re-election)
[FreeBeacon] Five Senate Democrats told the White House late Wednesday they will not support Lenin scholarship recipient Saule Omarova to serve as Comptroller of the Currency, nuking her chances to serve as the country’s bank regulator.

The Democrats—Sens. Jon Tester (D., Mont.), Kyrsten Sinema (D., Ariz.), Mark Kelly (D., Ariz.), Mark Warner (D., Va.), and John Hickenlooper (D., Colo.)—join all Senate Republicans in opposition to Omarova, who came under scrutiny over her proposals to use the banking system to "bankrupt" the oil and gas industry and her education in the Soviet Union. Axios reported Wednesday that the Democrats informed the White House they will not support Biden's nominee.

The failed nomination marks a major setback for progressives, who championed Omarova over her criticism of big banks and fossil fuel companies. Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D., Mass.) hailed Omarova’s nomination as "tremendous news." The left-wing Sierra Club touted Omarova as a bulwark against "climate chaos" and hoped she would set up "guardrails against Wall Street's risky fossil fuel investments."

Omarova faced questions about her academic history throughout the confirmation process. Omarova in recent years scrubbed her resume of references to a thesis she wrote about Karl Marx while studying on a Lenin scholarship at Moscow State University in the 1980s. Omarova disavowed the thesis at her confirmation hearing this month, but said she did not have a copy of the document.

Omarova was arrested in 1995 on charges she stole $214 in merchandise from a T.J. Maxx store in Madison, Wisc., where she was studying for her doctorate degree.

--Tech & Moderator Notes
Happy Thanksgiving!
Despite all the negative, awful things in the world, some of which are reported every day here at Rantburg, there is still much to be thankful for. In memory of Thanksgivings past, the number alone for which I am thankful, herewith President Lincoln’s first proclamation on the subject.

Proclamation of Thanksgiving

This is the proclamation which set the precedent for America's national day of Thanksgiving. During his administration, President Lincoln issued many orders similar to this. For example, on November 28, 1861, he ordered government departments closed for a local day of thanksgiving.

Sarah Josepha Hale, a 74-year-old magazine editor, wrote a letter to Lincoln on September 28, 1863, urging him to have the "day of our annual Thanksgiving made a National and fixed Union Festival." She explained, "You may have observed that, for some years past, there has been an increasing interest felt in our land to have the Thanksgiving held on the same day, in all the States; it now needs National recognition and authoritive fixation, only, to become permanently, an American custom and institution."

Prior to this, each state scheduled its own Thanksgiving holiday at different times, mainly in New England and other Northern states. President Lincoln responded to Mrs. Hale's request immediately, unlike several of his predecessors, who ignored her petitions altogether. In her letter to Lincoln she mentioned that she had been advocating a national thanksgiving date for 15 years as the editor of Godey's Lady's Book. George Washington was the first president to proclaim a day of thanksgiving, issuing his request on October 3, 1789, exactly 74 years before Lincoln's.

The document below sets apart the last Thursday of November "as a day of Thanksgiving and Praise." According to an April 1, 1864, letter from John Nicolay, one of President Lincoln's secretaries, this document was written by Secretary of State William Seward, and the original was in his handwriting. On October 3, 1863, fellow Cabinet member Gideon Welles recorded in his diary how he complimented Seward on his work. A year later the manuscript was sold to benefit Union troops.

Washington, D.C.
October 3, 1863

By the President of the United States of America.

A Proclamation.

The year that is drawing towards its close, has been filled with the blessings of fruitful fields and healthful skies. To these bounties, which are so constantly enjoyed that we are prone to forget the source from which they come, others have been added, which are of so extraordinary a nature, that they cannot fail to penetrate and soften even the heart which is habitually insensible to the ever watchful providence of Almighty God.

In the midst of a civil war of unequalled magnitude and severity, which has sometimes seemed to foreign States to invite and to provoke their aggression, peace has been preserved with all nations, order has been maintained, the laws have been respected and obeyed, and harmony has prevailed everywhere except in the theatre of military conflict; while that theatre has been greatly contracted by the advancing armies and navies of the Union. Needful diversions of wealth and of strength from the fields of peaceful industry to the national defence, have not arrested the plough, the shuttle or the ship; the axe has enlarged the borders of our settlements, and the mines, as well of iron and coal as of the precious metals, have yielded even more abundantly than heretofore. Population has steadily increased, notwithstanding the waste that has been made in the camp, the siege and the battle-field; and the country, rejoicing in the consciousness of augmented strength and vigor, is permitted to expect continuance of years with large increase of freedom.

No human counsel hath devised nor hath any mortal hand worked out these great things. They are the gracious gifts of the Most High God, who, while dealing with us in anger for our sins, hath nevertheless remembered mercy. It has seemed to me fit and proper that they should be solemnly, reverently and gratefully acknowledged as with one heart and one voice by the whole American People. I do therefore invite my fellow citizens in every part of the United States, and also those who are at sea and those who are sojourning in foreign lands, to set apart and observe the last Thursday of November next, as a day of Thanksgiving and Praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the Heavens. And I recommend to them that while offering up the ascriptions justly due to Him for such singular deliverances and blessings, they do also, with humble penitence for our national perverseness and disobedience, commend to His tender care all those who have become widows, orphans, mourners or sufferers in the lamentable civil strife in which we are unavoidably engaged, and fervently implore the interposition of the Almighty Hand to heal the wounds of the nation and to restore it as soon as may be consistent with the Divine purposes to the full enjoyment of peace, harmony, tranquillity and Union.

In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the United States to be affixed.

Done at the City of Washington, this Third day of October, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty-three, and of the Independence of the United States the Eighty-eighth.

By the President: Abraham Lincoln

William H. Seward,
Secretary of State

Anthony Esolen's 'Hope For America' and other selections
[Chronicles] If I were committed to wiping the United States from the face of the earth—and I am not—I might begin with defacing statues and memorials with graffiti.

My graffiti would be more literate than most. I imagine the Statue of Liberty’s base with the plaque bearing Emma Lazarus’ poem that begs the ancient world to send to us the "refuse of your teeming shore," men "yearning to breathe free." "I lift my lamp beside the golden door," says Lady Liberty. And I would augment the sonnet with these lines:
Such was the spirit of men who knew no fear,
But they are gone; their land knows them no more.
Abandon all hope, you who enter here.
I might likewise make many another sign more striking and accurate with the addition of Dantesque verse: "I am the way into the city of woe," would greet you upon entering the Kennedy Expressway on Chicago’s outskirts. "Welcome to the University of California, ’where men have lost the good of intellect,’" would be another. "Come see the masterpieces at the Guggenheim, for there you may see works ’plunged deep in just the sort of dung / you dump from human privies and latrines.’" At the Guggenheim, that description is sometimes not just figurative.

Court Docs: Ashley Biden's Diary Was Abandoned Alongside Biden Foundation Bag, Other ‘Personal Effects'
[National File] Ashley Biden wrote that she shared "probably not appropriate" showers with Joe Biden when she was a small child.

A new court filing from lawyers representing Project Veritas in the federal investigation regarding the alleged theft of Ashley Biden’s diary — published by National File in its entirety last year — reveals new information about how the diary from Joe Biden’s troubled daughter was obtained.

In a new court document, Project Veritas now claims "a tipster" called the media company around September 3, 2020 claiming that "a new occupant moved into a place where Ashley Biden had previously been staying and found Ms. Biden’s diary and other personal items" upon arrival. According to Project Veritas, the "tipster" described the diary as "pretty crazy" and "worth taking a look at."

Professor who wrote about adults attracted to minors resigns
[10 News] Remember this freak from this past week?
A university professor in Virginia has announced they'll resign in the wake of threats made over their recently published book.

Allyn Walker, who uses the pronouns they and them, is an assistant professor of sociology and criminal justice at Old Dominion University.

Walker's book includes interviews of more than 40 adults who are sexually attracted to minors.

The book argued that destigmatizing that attraction would allow more people to seek help and ultimately prevent child sexual abuse.
At least it wasn't a pop-up book, Amirite?
Professor Walker is the one who introduced us to the destigmatizing term minor-attracted persons for the traditional Latinate p3dophile.
In a statement, Walker said the research was mischaracterized by some in the media and online and in part because of their transgender identity.

The preface to Walker's book says they were not downplaying sexual abuse against children or trying to normalize it.

Walker was put on leave after reaction to the book led to safety concerns on campus.

Walker will remain on leave until their contract expires in May 2022. minor-attracted persons

#6  From the Washington Examiner:

In what would be one of the biggest political comebacks in American history, former President Donald Trump has surged into a double-digit lead over President Joe Biden in the latest 2024 matchup poll.

In today’s Rasmussen Reports survey, likely voters picked Trump to beat Biden, 45% to 32% if the election were held today, a gap that is even higher among independents who have become the critical swing group. They chose Trump 47%-20%.

Rasmussen reported a sizable number of voters who want someone else, at 17%, and just 6% said they were on the fence. Also: 15% of Democrats said they’d vote for Trump compared to 8% of Republicans who’d pick Biden.

Added the poll analysis, "Only 69% of those who say they voted for Biden last year would vote for him again if the election were held today. Eight percent (8%) of Biden’s 2020 voters would switch to Trump, who would get 83% support from those who voted for him last year."

But I don't see this raising to the level of a congressional award.

Of course with that said, a lot of the recent CGM awards were clearly more political than recognizing National achievements.

NYC homeless shelter director who stole $2M in city funds and splurged at Tiffany's AVOIDS jail - while number of vagrants in Big Apple hits Great Depression-era levels
[Daily Mail, Where America Gets Its News]
  • Ethel Denise Perry, 66, ran a 100-person homeless shelter in the Bronx and on Friday pleaded guilty to tax evasion and theft of millions of dollars

  • Letitia James, the New York attorney general, said Perry evaded taxes for years and stole more than $2 million to support her luxury lifestyle

  • Perry's company, Millennium Care, received more than $10 million in funding from the New York City Department of Homeless Services

  • Between 2013 and 2016, Perry 'used Millennium Care as her own personal piggy bank and illegally took more than $2 million,' James said

  • Perry spent the money on shopping sprees at Tiffany's, Bergdorf Goodman, Bloomingdale's, Ferragamo, Neiman Marcus and Manolo Blahnik

  • Cash also went on cars, gym membership and other personal expenses, and she hired her brother and nephew to work for the company

  • Perry's guilty plea comes amid increasing scrutiny of the companies contracted to support the city's homeless population, with nine of the 62 groups that run shelters now on an internal city 'watch list'

  • Homelessness in New York City has reached the highest levels since the Great Depression of the 1930s, according to the Coalition for the Homeless

Catholic University Features Paintings Of George Floyd As Jesus
[Daily Wire] The Catholic University of America, which refers to itself as the pontifical university of the Catholic Church in the United States, reportedly boasts paintings in its campus ministry office and outside the chapel at its law school which imitate Michelangelo’s immortal Pieta with one key difference: George Floyd is depicted as Jesus Christ.

The Pieta shows Jesus Christ being held by his mother Mary after his crucifixion. The Catholic University of America informed The Daily Signal that artist Kelly Latimore’s painting "Mama" shows "the Virgin Mary supporting the body of the dead Christ" but did not acknowledge the Christ in the painting was George Floyd.

Yet The Daily Signal photographed a description posted with the painting asserting, "Following the violent death of George Floyd on May 25, 2020, Latimore created this icon in June of that year." And in an interview with The Christian Century in April, Latimore acknowledged, "It was commissioned by my partner Evie Schoenherr as a way to mourn George Floyd," adding, "The common question that people asked was, ’Is it George Floyd or Jesus?’ The fact they’re asking that question is part of the problem. My answer was yes. This nonanswer frustrated the hell out of a lot of people."

Karna Lozoya, vice president for university communications, told The Daily Signal, "You can identify Jesus by the marks in the halo."

Irony On Steroids: Hillary Laments People Not Being Held Accountable for Their Actions
[PJ] The Leftist political elites, they are not like you and me. Hillary Clinton, who is the very model of the modern Leftist politician who is above the law, falsely claimed in connection with her illegal use of a private email server while secretary of state, that she "never received nor sent any material that was marked classified." She faced no legal consequences for that. Her team may have been involved in the Trump Russian collusion hoax, but even if it was, it is certain that Hillary will pay no penalty.

Rumors swirl around her regarding the strange fates of so many of her political foes, making her notorious for evading all the consequences of her actions; even if all the rumors are 100% false, they circulate because what we know for certain about her gives even the most fantastic story a veneer of plausibility. Hillary herself, however, displaying the audacity and imperviousness to irony that has marked her career, made it clear in an interview Tuesday that she was the one who was worried about people not being held accountable.

She is, in fact, worried about more than just that. "I do think," she told MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow, "that we are facing a crisis of democracy, a crisis of legitimacy, a crisis that really goes to the heart of what the future of our country and many others around the world will be." This is, of course, more red meat for the blue rubes, as anyone who looks at our current predicament in the United States honestly will quickly realize that the "crisis of democracy" doesn’t come from the Jan. 6 non-insurrectionist "insurrectionists," although they are likely the people Hillary had in mind. Nor does it come from Donald Trump supporters or the "white supremacists" whom the Biden administration claims are the nation’s foremost terror threat, despite never getting around to actually committing any terrorist acts.

Economy
Majority of voters hold Biden responsible for inflation
[Washington Examiner] Is President Joe Biden responsible for inflation ?

That's what a majority of voters said in a Yahoo News/YouGov poll released Tuesday. Thirty-nine percent said Biden has a "great deal" of blame regarding inflation, while 18% said he deserves "some" of the blame.

When it comes to the economy, inflation is the most important issue nationally, 17% of the poll's respondents said.

Less than one-fifth of voters, only 18%, believe Biden is responding to the economic crisis efficiently, the poll found.

The economy could be affecting Biden's low approval rating, which stands at 43%, according to Yahoo News's write-up of the survey.

People are facing multiple economic challenges over the holiday season, including fallout from the coronavirus pandemic and the supply chain crisis. Unemployment, however, reportedly hit about a 50-year low.

The poll was conducted between Nov. 17 and 19 among 1,696 U.S. adults and had a margin of error of +/- 2.6 percentage points.

Alan Dershowitz's stark warning: Justice system becoming infected by critical race theory
[Just The News] Alan Dershowitz, the famed law scholar and appellate lawyer, has a stark warning for judges, prosecutors and defense lawyers: America's justice system is being corrupted by identity politics and critical race theory.

In an interview with Just the News, Dershowitz deplored the growing trend in recent criminal cases toward political agendas supplanting the neutral consideration of evidence and law that has been the lifeblood of U.S. jurisprudence for more than two centuries.

"It's becoming much more responsive, unfortunately, to critical race theory, basically, everything's about race," Dershowitz told the John Solomon Reports podcast in an interview aired this week. "Everything's about race or politics.

"The justice system has stopped being about is this particular person innocent or guilty beyond a reasonable doubt based on the evidence and based on the law. People today are rooting, cheering for verdicts. They want verdicts to reflect their narrative. They want verdicts to prove their way of looking at the world. Trials and justice have ceased to be about individual justice. They're about identity politics."

CVS, Walgreens, and Walmart perpetuated opioid crisis, Ohio jury finds
[Washington Examiner] Walgreens, CVS, and Walmart perpetuated the opioid crisis in two Ohio counties, a federal jury in Cleveland found Tuesday.

The decision against the trio of major corporations marks the first time the retail arm of the pharmaceutical industry has been held liable in the long-standing epidemic of opioid overdoses and fatalities.

"For decades, pharmacy chains have watched as the pills flowing out of their doors cause harm and failed to take action as required by law," the lawyers for the two counties, along with attorneys for local governments across the country, said in a statement after the verdict.

"The judgment today against Walmart, Walgreens, and CVS represents the overdue reckoning for their complicity in creating a public nuisance," the statement read.

Britain
27 die trying to cross Channel to UK
[Dhaka Tribune] At least 27 migrants colonists died after their dinghy capsized on Wednesday while trying to cross the Channel from La Belle France to Britannia, a local mayor said.According to fishermen, more migrants colonists left La Belle France's northern shores than usual to take advantage of calm sea conditions, although the water was bitterly cold. One fisherman called the rescue services after seeing an empty dinghy and people floating motionless nearby.

Calais mayor Natacha Bouchart told BFM television the corpse count now stood at 27, minutes after another mayor put the tally at 24.

The local coasties said they could not yet confirm the number of deaths, adding that rescue services had found around 20 people in the water of whom only two were conscious. They estimated that there had been about 30 people on the dinghy before it capsized.

French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin said he was heading for the coast. "Strong emotion in the face of the tragedy of numerous deaths due to the capsizing of a migrant boat in the English Channel," he wrote in a tweet.

Two helicopters and three police or rescue boats were at the scene, local authorities said. One fisherman, Nicolas Margolle, told Rooters he had seen two small dinghies earlier on Wednesday, one with people on board and another empty.

He said another fisherman had called rescue services after seeing an empty dinghy and 15 people floating motionless nearby, either unconscious or dead.

He confirmed there were more dinghies on Wednesday because the weather was good. "But it's cold," Margolle added.

Early on Wednesday, Rooters news hounds saw a group of over 40 migrants colonists head towards Britannia on a dinghy.

The Channel is one of the world's busiest shipping lanes and currents are strong. Overloaded dinghies often barely stay afloat and are at the mercy of waves.

While French police have prevented more crossings than in previous years, they have only partially stemmed the flow of migrants colonists wanting to reach Britannia - one of the many sources of tensions between Gay Paree and London.

Europe
Country often hailed as a model for all is a joke just now...
[Breitbart] Sweden elected its first-ever female Prime Minister on Wednesday morning, but she resigned just seven and a half hours later after her coalition government lost a key budget vote.
"We'll always have IKEA"
Magdalena Andersson, leader of the Social Democrats, was selected in a Riksdag (Parliament) vote as Sweden’s 34th Prime Minister on Wednesday morning, replacing outgoing migrant-crisis era leader of the Social Democrat Stefan Löfven. Yet just hours later the Speaker of Riksdag announced the search for another new Prime Minister would begin after Andersson’s government collapsed before she’d even had chance to be sworn into the role.

The Budget for the Andersson government was up before Parliament Wednesday afternoon but failed to pass. The chamber instead elected to pass a so-called opposition budget written by right-wing minority parties, which had the government stayed it would have been forced to implement. The prospect of working to a budget that had been approved of by right-wing populists the Sweden Democrats was too much for coalition partners the Greens, however, who pulled out of the government in protest.

Turns out There Was More Behind That 'Never Trumpers Quit Fox Over Tucker' Story
[Red State] As we reported, Never Trump commentators Stephen Hayes and Jonah Goldberg announced this week that they were leaving Fox as contributors because of Tucker Carlson’s Jan. 6 special.

BLUF:

However, as with anything about the Never Trump grift, it’s never quite what it seems. It turns out there was a little more behind the story, as a Fox executive revealed. He said "the network had no intention of re-signing Steve Hayes or Jonah Goldberg when their contracts came up in 2022."

Oh. Now, how hilarious is that? In other words, they made this great big posturing move, but they were on their way out anyway, because they weren’t going to be renewed. So, that’s the real context here. Did they know that? Because now, it sounds like an "I quit before they were going to let me go" situation.

And was this ’quitting’ an effort to make themselves more appealing to their liberal buddies, so that they might get contributing slots on CNN or MSNBC as the ’oh so principled’ ’Republican’ commentators because they weren’t going to have their deals at Fox anymore? You know that for neo-cons, that’s likely the next move.

Israel, Morocco Ink Defense Deal after Normalizing Ties
[An Nahar] Israel and Morocco signed a landmark agreement Wednesday that lays the foundation for security cooperation, intelligence sharing, and future arms sales. The memorandum of understanding is the centerpiece of a visit this week by Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz to Morocco, which established formal relations with Israel last year as part of the U.S.-brokered Abraham Accords.

Gantz's trip is the first official visit by an Israeli defense minister to one of the Arab states that normalized ties under the accords.

In a statement, Gantz said that the agreement was "very significant and will allow us to exchange ideas, enter joint projects and enable Israeli military exports here."

The agreement was signed during a meeting between Gantz and his Moroccan counterpart Abdellatif Loudiyi in Rabat, with military attaches and two Israeli parliament members in attendance. Gantz also met with the Moroccan military chief of staff, and was greeted by a color guard of soldiers clad in red tunics, blue slacks and gleaming gold epaulets.

Ahead of his meeting with Loudiyi, Gantz paid his respects at the tomb of Mohammed V, the grandfather of the reigning monarch.

Morocco, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Sudan signed agreements to normalize relations with Israel in 2020 as part of the Abraham Accords, which were brokered by the Trump administration.

Israel and Morocco enjoyed low-level diplomatic relations in the 1990s, but Morocco severed them after a Paleostinian uprising erupted in 2000. Despite that, the two states have maintained informal relations. Nearly half a million Israelis claim Moroccan heritage — more than 200,000 immigrated to Israel after the founding of the state in 1948 — and thousands visit the country each year.

Calif Estimates $20B in Unemployment fraud since pandemic
The California Employment Development Department (EDD) recently reported that its best estimate of fraudulent unemployment payments totals at least $20 billion. That makes it easily the largest fraud in U.S. history and is more than the entire state budget of about half of U.S. states. None of the money has been reported as recovered...

As the investigation continues, California sits with the highest unemployment rate in the country at 7.5 percent....

Quoting from the article.
"...the federal government got involved in unemployment, adding $600 per week to state benefits which normally total only about $300 per week. This increased temptation, with $900 per week ..., the equivalent of full-time employment at $22.50 per hour." $46,800.00 more than many people collect on Social Security or made actually working.

So is it really a surprise that about 10% were abused the lax situation? Or did Calif. and the Federal Liberals setup a lax scheme, knowing it would be abused and there could be political benefits from it?

I also wonder how many became indirectly paid traveling Protesters for the Socialcrats?

Hunter Biden's Corrupt Shell Company Named After Deceased Mother's Birthplace; Map Tattooed on His Back
Hunter Biden
...son of President Joe: cashiered from the Navy, a crackhead, wheeler dealer, leg humper, horn dog, and general all around ne'er do well. We're supposed to feel sorry for him...
appears to have named his corrupt, Chinese-linked shell company Skaneateles after the town where his deceased mother was born — a map of which Hunter also has tattooed on his back, according to images from his laptop.

Skaneateles is the name of a town in New York State between Rochester and Syracuse. Skaneateles means “long lake,” which is a part of the Finger Lakes in central New York State.

Through an entity named Skaneateles, Hunter reportedly profited from orchestrating the sale of an American-owned cobalt mine in the Democratic Republic of Congo for $2.65 billion.

Chinese investors, who have close ties to the Chinese Communist Party, a transnational organized crime group, have reportedly ended up with a majority stake in the mine due to Hunter’s efforts.

On Sunday, Breitbart News reported Hunter’s involvement in divesting the United States of energy resources by peddling his government connections:

The transactions concluded with China Molybdenum owning 80 percent of the mine — a classic tale of the elites benefiting from the United States’ managed decline.

Hunter’s company reportedly obtained a ten percent share in the mine, which he sold to China Molybdenum from a Washington company named Skaneateles — which he also owns a stake in.

Skaneateles reportedly still owns a stake in BHR, though the Times reported Hunter “no longer holds any interest, directly or indirectly, in either BHR or Skaneateles,” according to Hunter’s lawyer Chris Clark.

It is unknown how much money Hunter profited from the corrupt deal, but CNN reported Hunter is under FBI investigation for money laundering in likel

North Korean sentenced to death for smuggling 'Squid Game' copies
[Dhaka Tribune] A North Korea
...hereditary Communist monarchy distinguished by its truculence and periodic acts of violence. Distinguishing features include Songun (Army First) policy, which involves feeding the army before anyone but the Dear Leadership, and Juche, which is Kim Jong Il's personal interpretation of Marxism-Leninism, which he told everybody was brilliant. In 1950 the industrialized North invaded agrarian South Korea. Twenty-one countries of the United Nations eventually contributed to the UN force opposing the invasion, with the United States providing around 90% of the military personnel. Seventy years later the economic results are in and it doesn't look good for Juche...
n man believed to have illegally brought a copy of "Squid Game" into the country has been sentenced to execution by firing, one of the notable methods by which characters were killed in the Netflix megahit show.

Censors at North Korea's Surveillance Bureau Group 109 caught the smuggler, a student, who has allegedly brought the show from China on his USB flash drive.

After selling several copies to high school students on USD Drive and SD cards, authorities caught him and awarded him the death penalty
while six other students were sentenced to five years' hard labor.

"This all started last week when a high school student secretly bought a USB flash drive containing the South Korean drama Squid Game and watched it with one of his best friends in class," a source from North Korean law enforcement told RFA’s Korean Service.

"The friend told several other students, who became interested, and they shared the flash drive with them. Government censors received a tip, and the students were arrested."

The authorities have also expelled the teachers and administrators from the Workers’ Party for negligence, who might be additionally forced into exile to work in remote mines.

In 2020, North Korea passed the key legislation titled "Law on the Elimination of Reactionary Thought and Culture," which can confer death penalty for "watching, owning, or distributing media from capitalist countries such as South Korea and the USA."

Philippine Police Arrest Suspected Militant Bomb Expert Linked to Jolo Church Attack
[BenarNews] A suspected Abu Sayyaf
...also known as al-Harakat al-Islamiyya, an Islamist terror group based in Jolo, Basilan and Zamboanga. Since its inception in the early 1990s, the group has carried out bombings, kidnappings, murders, head choppings, and extortion in their uniquely Islamic attempt to set up an independent Moslem province in the Philippines. Abu Sayyaf forces probably number less than 300 cadres. The group is closely allied with remnants of Indonesia's Jemaah Islamiya and has loose ties with MILF and MNLF who sometimes provide cannon fodder...
bomb expert linked to the deadly blast at a church in the southern Philippines in January 2019 was arrested in a village near Zamboanga city on Tuesday, police said.

The suspect, identified as Kalmi Ammad Mustala, 42, was nabbed mid-morning at a beachfront area near Recodo village, city police director Col. Rexmel Reyes said. Police officers from the city’s mobile force, backed by police and intelligence forces on Jolo Island, carried out the raid, he said.

"Kalmi Mustala, who was avoiding arrest ... is now behind bars as the Philippine National Police Zamboanga City Police Office steps up its series of Oplan Manhunt Charlie operations across the city," Reyes said.

"The operation was conducted against Mustala through a warrant of arrest issued by the Sulu court dated June 19, 2021, for cases of illegal possession of explosives," Reyes said. "The explosives were used in the commission of the crimes of double frustrated murder and double attempted murder."

Reyes said Mustala was an active member of the Abu Sayyaf Group based in the southern Sulu Islands, believed to be a "bomb expert involved in the twin bombing incident at Jolo Cathedral last Jan. 27, 2019."

Police did not release specific details about the incidents that led to the arrest warrant. "Frustrated murder" is described as an attack where the victim would have been killed if not for timely medical intervention.

The attack in January 2019 was carried out by an Indonesian couple who strapped bombs to their bodies before blowing themselves up inside the Jolo church, killing themselves and 21 others.

Police said the bombings were criminal masterminded by Abu Sayyaf leader Hatib Hajan Sawadjaan, who succeeded Isnilon Hapilon as the Philippine commander of the bully boy group known as Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. . Hapilon was among hundreds of bandidos forces of Evil killed in 2017 when he and others led a five-month bad boy siege of the southern city of Marawi.

Authorities have said they believe Sawadjaan was killed in a July 2020 clash with the military in Jolo even though his body was not recovered. His nephew, Mundi Sawadjaan, retaliated by launching a twin kaboom in August 2020 that killed 14 in Jolo.

Reyes alleged that Mustala also was involved in kidnappings targeting foreigners, including Swiss national Lorenzo Vinciguerra and Dutchman Ewold Horn who were kidnapped in Tawi-Tawi sometime in February 2012 while bird watching.

Vinciguerra escaped after he fought his captors during a military operation in 2014, but Horn’s captors shot him dead when he tried to escape during another military operation in May 2019.

In addition, Mustala was linked to kidnappings involving Indonesian fishing boat crews, police said.

group (ISIS) arrested a suspected financier of the terror group in Syria’s eastern province of Deir ez-Zor, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) said on Wednesday.

"This morning has seen yet another successful #Asayish operation supported by the @Coalition," read a tweet from the Kurdish-led SDF, referring to local security forces and their international allies. "An #ISIS financier has been captured in #DeirEzzour, stopping the funding of terror and protecting the people."

Kurdish forces in northeast Syria (Rojava), in coordination with the coalition, have carried out a number of recent raids against ISIS. Two days ago, the SDF said they arrested 57 ISIS suspects in October, prevented two boom-mobiles, and foiled ISIS prison breaks and "a new outbreak of terror."

The increased military operations against ISIS signal a surge in the group’s activities in the region.

According to the latest Pentagon report on the fight against ISIS, the bully boys’ activities "significantly" decreased from July to September 2021, but, citing the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA), it said "there were signs that the group is ’poised to increase activity in the coming quarter after a period of recuperation and recovery.’"

"The DIA said that ISIS moved some of its fighters during the quarter from the Syrian desert back into Iraq and northeastern Syria, which ISIS perceives to be important operating environments," added the report.

Myanmar troops arrest 18 medics for treating 'terrorists' in church
[Dhaka Tribune] Myanmar's military has arrested 18 medics for providing treatment to patients who were members of "terrorist organizations," a state-run newspaper said on Wednesday, referring to outlawed anti-junta groups.

Troops made the arrests during a raid on Monday on a church in Loikaw in eastern Kayah state, where they discovered 48 patients who were receiving treatment, seven suffering from Covid-19.

"It was learned that unofficial medical treatment was being provided to the injured persons and patients from the terrorist organizations," said the Global New Light of Myanmar, the junta's mouthpiece.

The report did not name the organizations. It said the 18 medics arrested would be dealt with according to the law.

Myanmar's healthcare system has been closed to collapse since the army overthrew an elected government in a February 1 coup.

Many medical workers joined a civil disobedience movement and have refused to work in military-run hospitals in protest at the junta's rule.

Many healthcare facilities and workers have been targeted by security forces, according to human rights

groups. The military has appealed to doctors to return to work.

Some of the four doctors, four nurses and 10 nursing aides arrested at the church had previously been charged with incitement over their refusal to work, the report said.

Close to 1,300 civilians have been killed and more than 10,000 arrested since the coup, according to the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP), which has been tracking post-coup events in Myanmar.

The military has dismissed the AAPP's data, which has been cited by the United Nations
...an organization originally established to war on dictatorships which was promptly infiltrated by dictatorships and is now held in thrall to dictatorships...
, and accuses it of bias. A junta front man last week said 200 soldiers have been killed during the conflict.

Comparing new Boomers
by H I Sutton

[NavalNews] Ballistic Missile Submarines (SSBNs) form the backbone of nuclear deterrents. Yet the types in service with NATO navies, the U.S., U.K., and France, are reaching the ends of their service lives. The new submarines which are being built to succeed them should keep the deterrent dependable in an uncertain future.

While Russia is already pumping out its latest Borei-II class ballistic missile submarines (SSBNs), the equivalent boats in service with the US Navy and Royal Navy are towards the end of their lives. And France’s too, while more recent, will also need replacement in the coming years. So Western navies are already working on the replacements.

#3  With the improvements in MIRV control, the tube counts became less important. The biggest hurdle to retention of quality personel has been livability which has been pretty good of late, but is likely needing to be better over the lifespan of the new boats.
The 'silencing' of the boats has reached the point where Brit and French boats have run into each other while on patrol, and didn't even realize it until later. (They compared notes afterward and went "oops, that was us".)

#5  As a person who has spent 4 yrs underwater, on 598 class boats, I salute these guys. A Navy study, in the 60s, indicated that after subs went into refueling 90% of the crew were married! After two patrol cycles only 5% were still married. After being gone for three months, some people would come back and want to be the “man” of the house, which caused all sorts of problems. If a member was not liked, he requested to leave the submarine service after patrol. One statement that might be used to make him unhappy, was “you’ll find your wife just like you left her, freshly f..ed”

A problem for anyone gone for more than a few days at a time. Mr. Wife eventually figured it out how to deal with the transition after the year he alternated the Middle East and home every two weeks. Also, while I was the family bookkeeper, I learnt it was important that he balanced the checkbook, which reminded him that while the company had him on a generous expense account when he travelled, at home our family finances had fewer zeroes before the decimal point.

UNIFIL Dismisses 'Unsubstantiated Allegations' about Port Blast Case
[An Nahar] UNIFIL Spokesperson Andrea Tenenti has dismissed what he called "unsubstantiated allegations," after al-Mayadeen TV mentioned UNIFIL’s naval force in a report about the Beirut port blast and the ship that carried the huge quantity of the explosive ammonium nitrate substance."Some recent media reports speculating on the activities of the UNIFIL Maritime Task Force (MTF) in the context of the tragic Beirut port explosion of 4 August 2020 have made unsubstantiated allegations with disregard to UNIFIL's mandate and the way the MTF operates," Tenenti said in response to a question by state-run National News Agency about the report.

He explained that UNIFIL’s MTF has been deployed at the request of the Government of Lebanon Hezbollahstan
...In 2020 Hezbollah blew up a considerable portion of Beirut and many of its inhabitants when its ammonium nitrate facility exploded. They blamed it on... somebody else. It wasn't them though. Trust them on that. And it ain't never coming to trial...
for "very specific tasks in support of the Lebanese authorities."

"The nature of such assistance is clearly defined by the Lebanese authorities, who retain the sovereign prerogative and related responsibility to secure their maritime borders," Tenenti added.

"Accordingly, as requested by the government, the role of UNIFIL’s MTF is to hail ships that are approaching Lebanon and refer any suspicious ships to the Lebanese authorities, who are the ones responsible for carrying out the inspection of those ships independently. UNIFIL cannot board and conduct physical inspection of any vessel in Lebanese territorial waters unless specifically requested by the Lebanese authorities," the UNIFIL front man pointed out.

He added: "UNIFIL’s MTF is also not responsible for authorizing entry into Lebanese ports. This again is the sovereign prerogative of the Lebanese authorities. As such, after a ship has been referred to the Lebanese authorities, UNIFIL has no involvement unless the Lebanese authorities were to request any further assistance within the scope of UNIFIL's mandate."

"With respect to the Beirut port explosion, due to the ongoing judicial investigation, it will not be appropriate for UNIFIL to comment on this particular case. However,
alcohol has never solved anybody's problems. But then, neither has milk...
UNIFIL has been fully cooperating with the Lebanese judicial authorities and has provided them with all requested assistance within the scope of UNIFIL's mandate," Tenenti stressed.

"In this context, some accusations made in the media misrepresent the way in which UNIFIL operates," he added, calling upon all concerned to "refrain from baseless and misleading speculations on such a serious and tragic matter."

Sudan's Hamdok to review appointments made by military
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Sudanese Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok will review appointments and dismissals made by the military to key state posts, the General Secretariat of the cabinet said.

After seizing power on Oct. 25, Sudan’s military rulers drew on veteran ex-officials of toppled leader Omar al-Bashir
...Former President-for-Life of Sudan He came to power in 1989 when he, as a brigadier in the Sudanese army, led a group of officers in a bloodless military coup that ousted the government of Prime Minister Sadiq al-Mahdi and eventually appointed himself head cheese. He fell out with his Islamic mentor, Hasan al-Turabi, tried to impose shariah on the Christian and animist south, resulting in its secessesion, and attempted to Arabize Darfur by unleashing the barbaric Janjaweed on it. Sudan's potential prosperity has been pissed away in warfare that has left as many as 400,000 people dead and 2.5 million displaced. Hee was overthrown by popular consent in 2019. Omar has been indicted for genocide by the International Criminal Court but nothing is expected to come of it...
for important positions in the state bureaucracy.

Hamdok, who was arrested during the coup and then reinstated under a deal with the military reached on Sunday, issued a directive to freeze all hiring and dismissals in state jobs.

"In addition, all the appointments and dismissals that have taken place in the previous period will be placed under study, evaluation and review," said the secretariat.

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
Putin to host Armenia, Azerbaijan leaders as fighting renews
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Russian President Vladimir Putin
...President-for-Life of Russia. He gets along well with other presidents for life. He is credited with bringing political stability and re-establishing something like the rule of law, which occasionally results in somebody dropping dead from poisoning by polonium or other interesting substance. Under Putin, a new group of business magnates controlling significant swathes of Russia's economy has emerged, all of whom have close personal ties to him. The old bunch, without close personal ties to Putin, are in jail or in exile or dead from poisoning by polonium or other interesting substances...
will host the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan this week, days after some of the worst fighting between the Caucasus foes since last year’s war over Nagorno-Karabakh, the Kremlin said Tuesday.
Putin will hold talks with Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev in Russia’s Black Sea resort of Sochi on Friday.

The trio will meet on Putin’s initiative, the Kremlin said in a statement.

The Kremlin said the talks are "timed to coincide" with the anniversary of a Russian-mediated ceasefire, signed in November last year, that ended six weeks of fighting over the long-disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region.

The deal saw Armenia cede swathes of territory it had controlled for decades.

The Kremlin said the leaders will discuss "outlining further steps to strengthen stability and establish peace in the region."

Earlier this month, festivities broke out on the shared border between Armenia and Azerbaijan with both sides reporting casualties and blaming each other for the fighting.

Russia stepped in to mediate, with Moscow’s Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu negotiating a truce.

Later on Tuesday, Pashinyan told an online presser that talks in Sochi should, among other issues, address "Azerbaijan’s behavior."

"Azerbaijan is demonstrating constant aggressive policies towards Armenia. What Azerbaijan is doing is an attack on Armenia," Pashinyan said in a live video on his Facebook page.

Pashinyan, however, confirmed his "readiness" to meet Aliyev on the sidelines of the EU’s Eastern Partnership summit in Brussels on December 15.

"I think that our communication should be more frequent, so we can find ways of solving problems and avoiding crisis situations," Pashinyan said.

He said they will discuss "humanitarian questions," including the exchange of war prisoners, but warned against expecting "fast results."

Pashinyan and Aliyev last met in January in the Russian capital.

The Grand Turk
How Turkey was punished for the downed Su-24 in 2015
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited. Full article posted on my personal blog.
[ChernarusianNarcoWarsProject] On November 24, 2015 over Syrian territory, near the Syrian-Turkish border, a Turkish F-16 fighter shot down a Russian front-line bomber Su-24, which bombed the positions of terrorist groups in the province Latakia. As a result, pilot Oleg Peshkov and serviceman Alexander Pozynich from the search and rescue service were killed, and an Mi-8 helicopter was destroyed. Navigator Konstantin Murakhtin was rescued and delivered to the Khmeimim airbase. The Turkish authorities accused Russia of violating the border and said that in this way they were protecting the Turkomans, a nation that Turkey considers to be related. Russia, in turn, accused Turkey of violating Syrian airspace and aiding terrorists.

This is a brief plot of events that froze Russian-Turkish relations for almost nine months. However, what happened after deserves a more detailed analysis. In the Russian Internet space, the opinion has long been strengthened and is being cultivated that Russia did not answer in any way for the destroyed equipment and the dead servicemen, fearing a full-scale war with NATO. But let's not get emotional and try to take a sober look at the facts.

An important aspect that needs to be taken into account is that the shooting down of the Su-24 was an ordinary provocation and a pre-planned action. Moreover, the Turks contradict themselves, declaring a violation of the airspace for a few seconds and immediately providing allegedly records with the controllers' demands to change the course lasting more than five minutes. Be that as it may, it is impossible to shoot down a plane that has violated the border for a few seconds (according to the Turks themselves), unless you wait for it in advance. And you can't go anywhere with professional shooting of a fall. But this crime looks even more despicable and cynical against the background of statements in 2012 by then Turkish President Abdullah Gul after Syria shot down a Turkish F-4 fighter:

"It is a common practice for combat aircraft to sometimes cross and leave [state] borders, given their speed over the sea. These things are not bad intentions, they just happen due to the difficulty of controlling the speeds of jet aircraft."

But the stolen Syrian oil and the greed for profit turned the head of the Turkish leadership. So much so that it turned into real accomplices of terrorism. Other facts indicate that the destruction of the Su-24 was deliberate and planned. For example, on January 29, 2016, Turkey accused Russia of the Su-34 violating its airspace. But the accusations were all limited: it's not the Su-24 to shoot down from an ambush, and the 34 can snap back much more seriously. Moreover, in the same January 2016, Russian fighters somewhat defiantly violated the border over border crossings - there is at least one video on the network. Do you think anyone took off to intercept?

Another important aspect that many people overlook. Remember what Erdogan said about the incident? That in this way he defended the Turkomans. So, he did not protect anyone. The Turkomans continued to bomb on the same day, even with even greater intensity. Actually, this is all you need to know about making rash decisions in geopolitics and the impossibility of their implementation.

This is all well and good, the reader will say. But where is the bombed out Istanbul, the defeated Turkish army?

Afghanistan
Taliban have signed a deal with Australian company Cpharm that wants to set up a cannabis processing center
Is it wise to compete directly with the traditional opium/heroin trade in that part of the world?
[PUBLISH.TWITTER]

Afghanistan’s deputy narcotics minister reportedly met with a representative of the company on Tuesday, who pledged a $450 million investment for the project, according to the Pajhwok news agency.

Cpharm did not immediately respond to Al Arabiya English’s request for comment.

Khosty said that the company, which produces medicinal cannabis cream, would be given access to thousands of acres of Afghan cannabis crops.

After taking control of Afghanistan in August, the Taliban
...Arabic for students...
vowed to crack down on cannabis production in the country.

Yussef Wafa, a Taliban governor of Kandahar, said in October that the group had been arresting drug users and would not let farmers grow cannabis or opium poppies.

Farmers reported seeing no real change in the group’s attitudes towards them, however.

Cannabis and opium crops were known to be significant sources of revenue for the hardline group when it operated as an insurgency under the US-led occupation of Afghanistan.

Jumblat Says Principle of 'Managing Disagreements' with Hizbullah 'Still Valid'

...Druze politician, head of the Progressive Socialist Party, who's been on every side in Leb at least four times. He'll sell you his friends for a dollar, but family comes higher because of shipping and handling...

...Party of God, a Leb militia inspired, founded, funded and directed by Iran. Hizbullah refers to itself as The Resistance and purports to defend Leb against Israel, with whom it has started and lost one disastrous war to date, though it did claim victory...
is still valid.

He told al-Joumhouria newspaper, in remarks published Wednesday, that "one has the right to raise his voice sometimes in order to express a position or a cry."

Jumblat had said earlier this month that his "patience on Hizbullah is running out," describing the fuel trucks that Hizbullah imported from Iran
...Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979...
as "beggary" and accusing Hizbullah of "ruining the lives" of the Lebanese who work in the Gulf in connection with the diplomatic crisis with Saudi Arabia

The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. Fifteen of the nineteen WTC hijackers were Saudis, and most major jihadi commanders were Saudis, to include Osama bin Laden. Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman quietly folded that tent in 2016, doing terrible things to the guys running it, and has since been dragging the kingdom into the current century...

#5  Part of what's called Ukraine today is indeed part of historic Russia. That's why the inhabitants of those regions have no desire to be part of what's called contemporary Ukraine.

The obvious solution is for
A) the US to honor the original promise that Ukraine be demilitarized and neutral -- i.e. forswear ever to pull it into either NATO or the EU,
and
B) Ukraine to grant effective sovereignty to the Russian-speaking Transdniester regions in the east,
and
C) Russia to recognize the above concessions by withdrawing its troops.

Neutral. Demilitarized.

Europe
Italian Air Force Boss Wants Merger Of Europe’s Combat Aircraft Programs
by Thomas Nedwick
Yes, yes. They all want to merge to form a European military, thinking that will mean someone else spends the money and the blood, while they preen and pose in their fancy new uniforms.
[TheDrive] The chief of the Italian Air Force has predicted the merger of Western Europe’s two leading next-generation combat aircraft programs since he doesn’t think there are enough resources to sustain them both. The two competing programs are the British-led Tempest, a mock-up of which is seen in the image below, and which involves Italy, and the Future Combat Air System (FCAS) pursued by France, Germany, and Spain.
Ah. He doesn’t mean merge, he means pick one project and cancel the other. Naturally he assumes the one picked will be the one Italy prefers, as opposed to the one preferred by those who always win by dint of having the largest economies and populations.
"It is natural that these two realities will merge into one," General Luca Goretti, the Chief of Staff of the Italian Air Force, told members of the country’s parliamentary defense committees today, according to a report from Reuters. "Investing huge financial resources in two equivalent programs is unthinkable." This is by no means the first time that calls have been made to bring the two initiatives together, even just in Italy, reflecting the limited pool of partners available.

Currently, BAE Systems is heading up the Tempest program, which aims to field a sixth-generation “system of systems” air combat capability, with a new stealthy six-generation fighter as its centerpiece. Team Tempest also includes Italian defense contractor Leonardo, European missile consortium MBDA, British engine manufacturer Rolls-Royce, and the British Royal Air Force (RAF), as well as numerous other high-tech companies. Sweden is also on board as an international partner, with Japan potentially waiting in the wings.

Meanwhile, FCAS is being led by Dassault Aviation of France, with Airbus of Germany in a supporting role. This effort also includes plans for a stealth fighter jet, or Next Generation Fighter (NGF), together with various unmanned systems and air-launched weapons. While the French and Germans are leading the FCAS effort, the Spanish Ministry of Defense has also joined the partnership.

Both programs aim to have the manned fighter component of the planned system of systems in service sometime between 2030 and 2040.

According to the same Reuters report, Goretti told officials that Italy made the decision to join the Tempest program “because it felt it could play a bigger role [in it] than in the FCAS program.” That could well reflect the perceived dominance of Dassault and Airbus in FCAS, as well as the fact that Leonardo already has strong ties with the United Kingdom on the industrial side, including leading radar development for the Eurofighter Typhoon in its U.K. facility. The Eurofighter consortium also includes BAE Systems and Airbus.

However, Goretti also made the case for Italy serving as “a bridge” between NATO and Western European nations that are increasingly looking toward options for collaboration on the continent, rather than necessarily under the Alliance’s auspices.

Goretti’s argument for the eventual fusion of Tempest and FCAS is explained by the fact both are still in their “conceptual phase,” with different countries still defining their requirements. With that in mind, Goretti considers the reverse of the Eurofighter program might be possible — back in the early 1980s, France split off from the United Kingdom, Italy, and Spain to build the rival Dassault Rafale instead.

Another European air chief, Lieutenant General Ingo Gerhartz of the German Luftwaffe, previously made efforts to bring the two rival programs together, by speaking with his Italian and British counterparts. “It can be that we go on different tracks,” Gerhartz told Defense News earlier this year. “Hopefully we will merge eventually.”

Key industry figures involved with Tempest have been lukewarm on the idea of a merger with FCAS. At the same time, Dirk Hoke, the former CEO of Airbus Defence and Space, had previously argued that Europe “can’t afford two new systems.” Hoke's statement may well be true, with genuine concerns persisting over whether European powers will actually be able to pay for two competing stealth jet programs.

Russian intelligence: Ukrainian activities similar to Georgia in 2008
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[RusOnline] It cost Georgia dearly in 2008: Russian intelligence accused Ukraine of preparing for war. Russia again refutes the statements of the West and Kiev about active preparations for an "invasion" of Ukraine. This time, the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) made a statement.

In the SVR, reports about the preparation of an "invasion" were called a lie. Moreover, in response to these allegations, intelligence accused Ukraine itself of concentrating its troops on the border with Russia and Belarus.

The SVR bureau report draws a parallel between the current situation in Ukraine and the events in Georgia in August 2008, when Georgian troops launched an offensive against South Ossetia.

"The provocative policy of the United States and the European Union, which deliberately strengthens Kiev's sense of permissiveness and impunity, is of utmost concern. We observed a similar situation in Georgia on the eve of the 2008 events. Then Mikhail Saakashvili "broke off the chain" and tried to destroy the Russian peacekeepers and the civilian population of South Ossetia. It cost him dearly,"the intelligence agency said in a statement.

As previously reported, the US intelligence and media are actively spreading statements about the alleged plans of Russia to attack Ukraine. At the same time, it is reported that the attack is being prepared from three sides at once, and even approximate dates are called. In Russia, they saw this as signs of impending provocations by the Kiev military, saboteurs and neo-Nazi groups. In particular, this was stated on the eve of the Deputy Secretary of the Security Council of Russia Alexander Grebyonkin, and today the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry Sergei Lavrov.

How Bali Bombings Group Infiltrated Indonesian Institutions to Resurrect Itself
[BenarNews] Indonesia’s arrest of more than 300 suspected bully boyz this year has uncovered just how successfully Jemaah Islamiyah, the group that carried out the 2002 Bali bombings, has rebuilt itself over the last 13 years.

Between January and mid-November, Indonesian security forces said they arrested 339 people and killed 18 terrorist suspects. This marks a 56 percent increase from 2020.
Jemaah Islamiyah, or JI, which was banned in 2008, leaned heavily on infiltrating Islamic socio-religious organizations to scout for recruits, gather funds, and even become politically influential via quasi-state religious organizations.

This tactic has complicated counterterrorism operations as crackdowns against members of religious groups are increasingly viewed as targeting Moslems. Stymieing JI’s future would require the government to complement mass arrests with inclusive, grassroots counter-radicalization programs and increased transparency of counterterrorism operations.

Russian Syrian AA defenses intercepts ten Israeli missiles
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited
More on this report from yesterday.
[RIA Novosti] The Syrian military from Russian-made complexes last night destroyed most of the missiles fired by Israel,
....most, but not all — and in war not all is the difference between winning and losing...
said Rear Admiral Vadim Kulit , deputy head of the Center for the Reconciliation of Warring Parties in Syria .

"From 2:28 to 2:38 am, six Israeli F-16 tactical fighters of the Israeli Air Force from Lebanese airspace attacked targets in the Syrian province of Homs with twelve guided missiles. Pantsir-S destroyed ten missiles," he said at a briefing.

The Rear Admiral added that one Syrian soldier was injured as a result of the airstrikes.

Israel regularly attacks targets in Syria from the air. Damascus has repeatedly demanded that the UN Security Council put pressure on the Jewish state in order to stop the systematic violation of state sovereignty.

Accomplice in deadly May terror shooting sentenced to 10 months
[IsraelTimes] A Paleostinian man convicted of aiding a terrorist following a deadly drive-by shooting at Tapuah Junction in the West Bank in May is sentenced to 10 months in prison.

Lafi Shalabi reaches a plea bargain with the prosecution. He will also compensate the families of the victims.

Shalabi is accused of hiding his cousin — the terrorist Muntasir Shalabi, 47 — from the Israeli army after he carried out the shooting that killed Israeli student Yehuda Guetta of Jerusalem, 19. The attack also injured several other Israelis, some of them seriously.

According to the Ynet news site, two weeks ago, while he was in Israeli custody, Lafi Shalabi was elected mayor of his West Bank village of Turmus Aya.

Islamic Emirate Official: Japan to Reopen Embassy
[ToloNews] Japan's ambassador to Afghanistan, Takashi Okada, in a meeting with the PM's Deputy for Political Affairs, Mawlawi Abdul Kabir, said his country will reopen its embassy in Kabul if security is assured, said an Islamic Emirate official.

Inamullah Samangani, deputy front man of the Islamic Emirate, said Okada and Abdul Kabir met on Tuesday and discussed Afghanistan-Japan relations and humanitarian aid.

According to Samangani, Okada at the meeting said his country will engage with the Islamic Emirate and will reopen its embassy in Kabul.

"We intend to reopen our embassy after security is assured. A joint framework should be created for practical measures," Okada said as quoted by Samangani on Twitter.

The Japanese ambassador also said that his country would continue its humanitarian aid to Afghanistan, adding that aid should arrive in Afghanistan before winter sets in, as quoted by Samangani.

The remarks follow the reopening of the United Arab Emirates embassy in Kabul a few days ago.

Anti-Coup Groups Denounce Deal Between Military Junta and Former PM
[SPUTNIKNEWS] Amid serious public pressure, Sudanese Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok has sought to justify his deal with the military, telling Saudi-backed Al Arabiya network in a Tuesday interview that he entered into the "political agreement" in hopes of "sparing the blood of the Sudanese and preserving the [economic] gains made."Hamdok was returned to his previous post Sunday following nearly a month spent under house arrest after Sudanese army chief Abdel-Fattah al-Burhan deposed the civilian government in a dramatic coup d’etat on Oct. 25.

Proponents of civilian rule were quick to denounce the 14-point agreement, and prominent activist groups, such as Forces for Freedom and Change and the Sudanese Professionals Association, have pledged to continue mobilizing until full civilian rule is restored.

Huge crowds of Sudanese demonstrators erupted into the streets of Khartoum Sunday immediately after the deal was announced to condemn the arrangement.

Two soldiers martyred in Balochistan attack
[DAILYTIMES.PK] On Wednesday, two Army soldiers got martyred after faceless myrmidons attacked a checkpost of security forces in the Balochistan
...the Pak province bordering Kandahar and Uruzgun provinces in Afghanistan and Sistan Baluchistan in Iran. Its native Baloch propulation is being displaced by Pashtuns and Punjabis and they aren't happy about it...
area of Tump, Daily Times reported.
Never-Tumpers™
To your room, Frank G — that’s awful!!
"A group of externally sponsored faceless myrmidons fired onto a checkpost of security forces established in general area Tump, Balochistan, to prevent the movement of these faceless myrmidons into built-up areas," ISPR said.

ISPR further said that the security forces retreated in response with all the available weapons that resulted in heavy losses to the terrorists.

"During the engagement, however, two soldiers Sepoy Naseebullah, resident of Kharan, and Sepoy Insha Allah, resident of Lakki Marwat sacrificed their lives fighting valiantly," said the ISPR.

The ISPR reminded that Pakistain’s security forces were determined to defeat such acts of cowardly faceless myrmidons that are hoping to disrupt "peace, stability and progress of Balochistan".

This is the second time during this week that faceless myrmidons have attacked security forces in Balochistan.
