[SpaceNews] — A new heavy-lift rocket designed to be capable of sending Chinese astronauts to the moon could have its first flight in 2026, according to a senior engineer.
Long Lehao, a senior space industry figure and Long March launch vehicle designer, told state media CCTV Dec. 10 that the new rocket would launch for the first time around 2026. Long appeared in a television segment celebrating the 400th Long March rocket launch.
Long stated that the kerosene-liquid oxygen rocket could be used to put Chinese astronauts on the moon before 2030, echoing the recent views of Ye Peijian, a senior official within China’s lunar program. Other flights such as circumlunar missions were noted as possibilities for the new rocket.

Meanwhile NASA is more worried about gender studies and racism.
[InterestingEngineering] With proprietary modems coming as early as 2023.
A major big tech player is going more in-house than ever.
Apple might be bringing more of its chip production process in-house, since it announced it was establishing a new office designed to replace several crucial components that, until now, were developed by Skyworks and Broadcom, according to an initial Bloomberg report.
While the global chip shortage is significant to this decision, it's unclear how rising tensions between the U.S. and China will play into Apple's production practices.
Apple has shown interest in developing its own 5G chips
The newly formed office is slated to specialize in the development of "wireless radios, radio-frequency integrated circuits and a wireless system-on-a-chip," while also building "semiconductors for connecting to Bluetooth and Wi-Fi," added the report. The M- and A-Series SoCs that include the GPU and CPU for Apple's iPhones and Macs will be the primary benefactors of this move, there are plenty of other chips inside of these machines. And they manage a wide variety of things, from USB connectivity, wireless charging, and much more. Broadcom and Skyworks provide a vast array of the iPhone's third-party-sourced parts, according to iFixit's iPhone 13 Pro breakdown. But now, it seems Apple has decided to design its own chips for this hardware.
At present, one of the most significant third-party chips housed within the iPhone's modem is produced by Qualcomm. In the past, Apple had briefly pivoted to Intel parts amid a legal battle that lasted years. But it's not a big secret that Apple has laid plans to develop its own 5G chips, instead of relying on and paying the price for Qualcomm's. And there were many hints along the way: in 2019, Apple bought Intel's smartphone modem business for roughly $1 billion. Since then, its become known that Apple is considering pivoting to its own proprietary modems for its iPhones, possibly as early as 2023, according to a report from The Verge.
INDUSTRIES ARE BUILDING UP DOMESTIC PRODUCTION AMID TENSE INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS
Many might suspect that Apple is only doing this because it wants to expand control of its complex product, so that all hardware is sourced from no one but Apple itself. But this could be a means of shoring up its production flow against the vacillating market supply chain. Apple is already experiencing the effects of the global chip supply shortage, especially for parts developed by suppliers like Broadcom. These shortages have already forced Apple to fall back on its initial production targets for October. But if it moves all of the chip-making phases of iPhone, Mac, and other device production to in-house sources, the company would be much more resilient in the face of increasing economic pressure points, which extend beyond the immediate problems of the supply chain.
Many industries are already moving more of their production capacities in-house, but some are even turning more toward domestic sourcing. Earlier this month, General Motors signed a deal to extract rare metals for the motors in electric vehicles from North America, specifically from MP Materials' mine in Mountain Pass, California. With mounting tensions between the U.S. and China, it would be tempting to think Apple is also looking for ways to secure its chip manufacturing process outside of China. Except for the $275-billion deal that Apple CEO Tim Cook signed with officials in China back in 2016. This suggests that, were a conflict to unfortunately erupt, it's hard to say how Apple would react, since its revenue comes from a global, and not a national market.
[AP] — Russia may take unspecified new measures to ensure its security if the U.S. and its allies continue to take provocative action and ignore Moscow’s demand for guarantees precluding NATO’s expansion to Ukraine, a senior diplomat said Saturday.
Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov accused Western allies of continuously pushing the envelope in relations with Russia, and warned that Moscow could also up the ante if the West doesn’t treat its demands seriously.
Ryabkov’s statement in an interview with the Interfax news agency came a day after Moscow submitted draft security documents demanding that NATO deny membership to Ukraine and other former Soviet countries and roll back the alliance’s military deployments in Central and Eastern Europe — bold ultimatums that are almost certain to be rejected by the U.S. and its allies.
The publication of the demands — contained in a proposed Russia-U.S. security treaty and a security agreement between Moscow and NATO — comes amid soaring tensions over a Russian troop buildup near Ukraine that has raised fears of an invasion. Russia has denied it has plans to attack its neighbor but wants legal guarantees that would rule out NATO expansion and deploying weapons there.

The Marines Corps is booting 103 active members for refusing to get the COVID-19 vaccine, according to reports
The news comes as military services begin to discharge up to 30,000 active duty service members who have continued to refuse the shot
On Thursday, the Marine Corps said that 95 percent of its 182,500 Marines had received at least one vaccine shot, the lowest percent among military services
Navy says 98 percent of active-duty soldiers have gotten at least one dose of COVID vaccine, but remaining two percent or 5,731 soldiers have refused
Army says 97.9 percent of active-duty soldiers have been vaccinated but remaining two percent are slated to be discharged beginning in January
Air Force has a 97.5 percent while the Marine Corps has 95 percent vaccinated
On Monday, the Air Force became the first military branch to terminate unvaccinated members, firing 27 airmen for rejecting mandatory COVID jab
The Pentagon announced earlier this year that the COVID-19 vaccine would be mandatory for all service members, including the National Guard and Reserve

...maybe because the Lysenkoists at the FDA bowed before the Central Committee and change the classification from experimental to approved. The Nuremberg Protocols codified after the Tribunal's work says that experimental drugs application must be voluntary. If you recall the Tribunal, "orders are orders" does not qualify as immunity for government or party officials.
[Right Scoop] Governor DeSantis is doing everything he can to ensure people who are compromised have as many tools as they can get in order to protect them from getting the virus. Today he announced that he’s making monoclonal antibodies available to people who have not been infected yet and need more protection: Once again, Gov. DeSantis exhibits his leadership abilities. I have a sense that people will soon be begging for this man to run for the presidency.

I could vote a 2024 President TRUMP/ VP Governor DeSantis ticket. Thus allowing Governor DeSantis 12 years in the WH doing something with a PRO-USA focus.
The jig's up. Time to let this mild and extremely contagious variant do what should have been done from the beginning, and sweep through the population and give us natural immunity that's far more effective than these failing vaccines and 'boosters.'
From the NY Mag article:
"Suddenly this exceedingly transmissible variant (in combination with its forebear Delta) has arrived at our door with a pistol in its hand to inform us that the jig is finally up. And right now, the only reasonable response seems to be a sheepish, 'What took you so long?' "

One thing I like about Florida's approach: Each FL infusion center accepts patients who refer themselves after they get a positive COVID-19 test. Such FL patients don't need to waste time going through their PCP to then be referred to an infusion center. Most other states require eligible patients take this time-wasting step. The criteria for eligibility are pretty straight forward.

More from the article — this is exciting stuff:
Surrounded by medical professionals in Ocala, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and Surgeon General Dr. Joseph Ladapo spoke at Ocala Regional Medical Center to discuss early treatment for COVID-19. The event included signs reading “Early Treatment Saves Lives,” a slogan used when the state launched its monoclonal antibody treatment sites in August as cases ramped up in Florida.
“Most recently, Dec. 8, the FDA issued an emergency use authorization for a new product called Evusheld, and it’s AstraZeneca’s new monoclonal antibody product for pre-exposure prevention of COVID-19 for eligible populations 12 and older,” DeSantis said.
While the new product is different than the other monoclonal antibody treatments available, DeSantis said the treatment was a long-lasting, long-acting monoclonal therapy. He said clinical trials showed it reduced the risk of COVID infections “in the first instance” by 77%. Still, DeSantis said clinical trials were sometimes different than real-world use.
“If you look at Pfizer and their initial results saying 95% protection against infection, I don’t think anyone can look at what’s happened over the last six to eight months and say that it’s 95%,” DeSantis said. “So the immunity clearly wanes.” DeSantis said this was why boosters for COVID-19 vaccines were being pushed more.
The governor said the new treatment from AstraZeneca was for people who had not yet been exposed to COVID, and that were not infected.
“It’s something that you’re trying to provide some antibody protection for about a six month period of time, for the people that are specifically authorized to do the Evusheld are individuals who are immunocompromised and may not have adequate immune response to vaccination,” DeSantis said.
He said the Evusheld treatment was potentially better for people who may not be able to vaccinated or had other health concerns, where the vaccine was not recommended and where other treatments were needed instead. Still, the treatment is not for post-exposure COVID treatment according to DeSantis.
“Initially, we have a very limited allocation, it’s about 3,100 doses,” DeSantis said. “This initial allocation is going to go to hospitals and clinics that are already administering monoclonal antibody treatment to patients, including right here in Ocala. And the way we tried to allocate it was to say ‘can we get it within a two-hour drive of everyone in Florida.’”
So it’s for those at highest risk who do not respond to normal vaccination. I have one of those in my household, so I’ll pass the word, though we don’t live in Florida. Good find, Besoeker.

Actually the FDA changed their EUA criteria to allow treatment for pre-exposure in the cases mentioned in the source article. ANY infusion center in the USA is now authorized to do this, not just the ones in Florida. Still I give DeSantis a lot of credit for staging this event in Florida. Due to the unaccustomed delivery method for this outpatient therapy, the general public and most physicians can't quite get their heads around this.
Meanwhile back in Ohio a recent missive from the state medical board actually deigned to mention outpatient monoclonal antibody therapy for the first time since it was authorized 13 months ago. Way back then I sent them an email asking for their announcement of this, and I never received an answer. Ditto for messages I sent to that state health department. Meanwhile back in Boston, the "World's Greatest Hospital" aka MGH is struggling to deliver 60 infusions a day and complaining of how difficult it was to set up this minimal effort.

trailing wife -- this is as far as Ohio has gone in providing a list of infusion centers in the state. It just points to a federal list of phone numbers to call. One national finding aid is here. You must call each of the numbers in the finding aids to learn where the actual infusion centers are located, and then you must call the actual infusion center to get the info necessary for a physician to make a referral. NB: Florida has eliminated the necessity for any FL patient to go through a physician, and each infusion center is theoretically able to give infusions based on the current FDA criteria for all kinds of high risk patients.
Last week I again tracked down the 2 infusion centers nearest my home, both within 5 miles, and have their phone numbers on my smartphone's contact list, along with the PDF of all paperwork the main one needs. I do this because I am a high risk patient and would be eligible if I ever got a + COVID test, regardless of my vaccination status. The local media AFAICT have not publicized the existence of these centers in any way.
I HIGHLY advise anyone connected to a high risk patient to do the research on locating infusion centers ahead of time. Time is of the essence in getting such an infusion and the current setup tends to waste a good deal of time before an eligible patient actually gets treatment. Florida has at least eliminated one time wasting step, unlike Ohio.

Thank you so much for this information, Bubba Lover of the Faeries8843 — I’ll save the link to this thread for reference.
Final daughter’s doctors are with the University of Cincinnati medical group, so I’ll follow up with her GP and immunologist about this, though I see that Evusheld is not yet listed among the offerings in Ohio. Final daughter had a general course of IVIG (Intravenous immunoglobulin) treatments earlier this year, so her file is in their system, which should help.
The news articles including the FDA datasheets have obscured the fact the Evusheld is only to be given as intramuscular injections and not for IV use. So infusion centers may not be necessary at all!
---- I have found that the infusion centers giving IVIG are kept separate from those giving the anti-COVID monoclonal antibody treatments, since those up until now were only given to COVID-19 + patients. Evusheld by definition is for patients without an active case of COVID-19, so the IVIG infusion centers won't be adversely affected by giving these antibody treatments and would be logical places well equipped to give Evusheld IM.

The continuing border crisis. Rising gas prices and overall inflation spiraling out of control. American citizens, purposely left behind in Afghanistan and still trapped behind Taliban lines. Plummeting Biden approval rates. An out-of-control infectious and emerging diseases "expert" and a disastrous vice president.
The list goes on.
At least no one can accuse Nancy Pelosi and House Democrats of failing to keep their priorities straight.
As reported by Reuters, the House on Tuesday voted along straight party lines (219-212) to approve a bill to create a State Department office to "address anti-Muslim bias," after Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) called Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) a member of a "Jihad Squad."
In addition, as reported by my colleague streiff, earlier this month, Boebert called out Omar for "financial shenanigans, a fraudulent (we hope) and incestuous marriage, and for being a member of above-mentioned ’Jihad Squad." — all of which, Omar has been accused of in the past, multiple times.
As to the "Jihad Squad" blast, call what you want, it matters not. What does matter is that the dopey so-called "Squad" — Ilhan Omar, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Rashida Tlaib, and Ayana Pressley demonstrate anti-American, anti-Israel, pro-Islamist behavior on a regular basis.
The silly "Oh, yeah — I’ll show you!" bill was authored by Omar and would even create a special envoy for "monitoring and combating Islamophobia and include state-sponsored anti-Muslim violence in the department’s annual human rights reports," as noted by the wire service report.

Some Republican should introduce a bill that mimics the Ilhan Omar bill, but substitute 'anti-Semitism' and 'Christophobia' for 'Islamophobia'.
Of course, such a bill would go nowhere. It would be accused of promoting one religion over another, and on and on.

The Corbynification of the Democratic Party ... But will it get passed in the Senate, or is this just posturing for the rubes?
[Washington Examiner] The U.S. military must start making preparations for another "insurrection" after the 2024 election, according to a trio of retired military generals.
An op-ed published by the Washington Post on Friday called for action amid growing concern among former senior officials about the "potential for lethal chaos inside our military" in a flash of violence that could eclipse the Capitol riot on Jan. 6.
Multiple courses of action were advised by Paul Eaton,
...who oversaw training of the Iraqi military from 2003 to 2004...
a retired U.S. Army major general and a senior adviser to VoteVets,
...an anti-Trump PAC largely funded by Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer's (D., N.Y.) Senate Majority PAC, ally of CAIR...
Antonio Taguba, a retired Army major general with 34 years of active duty service, and Steven Anderson, a retired brigadier general who served in the Army for 31 years. They warned of the possibility of "civil war" resulting from a "military breakdown" due to splits in loyalty.
"First, everything must be done to prevent another insurrection. Not a single leader who inspired it has been held to account. Our elected officials and those who enforce the law — including the Justice Department, the House select committee and the whole of Congress — must show more urgency," they wrote.
The op-ed notes more than 1 in 10 of those charged in the attack on the Capitol nearly a year ago had a service record. They also said a group of 124 retired military officials, under the name "Flag Officers 4 America," released a letter echoing former President Donald Trump’s "false attacks on the legitimacy of our elections."
They also released a letter questioning President Biden’s mental capacity, so I’m all admiration.
With the Jan. 6 committee investigation still underway, the retired generals said the military cannot wait for elected officials to take action.
"The Pentagon should immediately order a civics review for all members — uniformed and civilian — on the Constitution and electoral integrity," the trio said. "There must also be a review of the laws of war and how to identify and deal with illegal orders. And it must reinforce 'unity of command' to make perfectly clear to every member of the Defense Department whom they answer to. No service member should say they didn’t understand whom to take orders from during a worst-case scenario."
"In addition," they wrote, "all military branches must undertake more intensive intelligence work at all installations. The goal should be to identify, isolate and remove potential mutineers; guard against efforts by propagandists who use misinformation to subvert the chain of command; and understand how that and other misinformation spreads across the ranks after it is introduced by propagandists."

In other words, reign in the National Guards at the state level who would not obey a fraudulently elected Commander In Chief or who refuse a General Miley order to keep Trump out of office.
It's official now: we are a Latin-style Oligarchy with Brazilian levels of crime, Mexican levels of corruption, Venezuelan inflation, Guatemalan-Salvadoran anarchy, Cuban-style indoctrination and repression.
And now we have a Praetorian Guard military on the Vargas or Pinochet model, ready able and willing to step in and preserve order should the Deplorables demand free and fair elections. En caso de emergencia.

If BidenHarris Hillary wins in 2024, the plan is to put Republican election officials under house arrest and institute contempt proceedings in Congress for any/all GOP colleagues who protest.
If Trump wins in 2024, more kinetic measures will be implemented across the nation -- by both the Provos (Teefa/BLM) and the Praetorian legions.

Yes. Should a non-squish conservative be installed in the White House (Yeah, I know...) with any sort of Republican majority in Congress, there should be a campaign of busting down liberal establishments as has never been seen. Just shut the CIA and FBI. Close the Department of Education. Pass a bill to reduce the national debt with a poison pill for revocation that will make it a de-facto part of the Constitution.
For starters.

The mood music:
Listen on in Generals, if you dare!!!
[Washington Examiner] A federal appeals court reinstated the Biden administration's COVID-19 vaccine-and-testing mandate for private businesses with over 100 employees on Friday.
The 2-1 ruling by the 6th U.S. Court of Appeals in Cincinnati lifted the November injunction, which blocked the rule from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. The court noted in its decision that OSHA has historical precedent for using wide discretion to ensure worker safety and "demonstrated the pervasive danger that COVID-19 poses to workers — unvaccinated workers in particular — in their workplaces," according to CNBC.
With the mandate reinstated, businesses with 100 or more employees will be required to have their workers either fully vaccinated by Jan. 4 or submit a negative COVID-19 test every week. Unvaccinated employees were required to start wearing masks indoors beginning Dec. 5.
The case is likely to end up with a showdown at the Supreme Court.
We do live in interesting times. And so, perforce, do they.
#1
By the time the case reaches SCOTUS it will be obvious that NOT letting the completely mild and nearly-harmless omicron variant infect employees is a far greater threat to workplace safety than continuing with what is now obviously a mass incidence of vaccination failure.
Re the above term: "breakthrough infections" is these assholes' latest ridiculous move-the-goalposts Orwellian redefinition of what has always been known in the medical community as vaccination failure.
Look it is a FACT - IT DOES NOT VACCINATE against the C-19/21. It it did then why are we seeing repeated infections of VAX'd people.
Because we have seen VAX person after VAX person still getting the C-19/21. Why are we seeing Countries and States with 90+% VAX rates, still reporting high numbers?
At its best it only reduces the severity for the original strains A-B-D. It is only somewhat effective of Strain O, and that depends on which VAX producer.
Plus isn't it strange only that mRNA P-VAX is claimed by the Biden Junta CDC to be effected.
Despite mountains of medical data proving it not a real solution. Then just what the hell is in this inoculation that only lasts a few months, that is so damn important for the DC Swamp to FORCE into our systems?

An Android app with more than 500,000 downloads from Google Play has been caught hosting malware that surreptitiously sends users’ contacts to an attacker-controlled server and signs up users to pricey subscriptions, a security firm reported.
The app, named Color Message, was still available on Google servers at the time this post was being prepared. Google removed it more than three hours after I asked the company for comment.
Project Veritas has released the name of the latest CNN producer to be embroiled in a pedophilia scandal. Rick Saleeby, the staffer in question, is a producer on "The Lead with Jake Tapper."
Project Veritas released the name after ensuring that the family involved was safe, according to a press release.
The messages and videos were allegedly obtained by a woman who was involved in a relationship with the CNN producer for over a decade, Janine Banani, a case manager for human trafficking victims, as well as those of domestic violence and sexual assault.
The source claimed to have obtained the information for authorities but contacted Project Veritas when she was worried that action might not be taken. The source told the outlet that she "felt disgusted" and felt the need to come forward because "these people with power seem to get away with it."
These new allegations come after the arrest of former CNN employee, John Griffin, who has been charged with three counts of using a facility of interstate commerce to attempt to entice minors to engage in unlawful sexual activity.

Lost in the verbiage is the fact that nearly all of this fatal fentanyl comes from illegal sources -- the cartels or even through the US Mail directly from China. Years ago Trump & Xi communicated about this Chinese sourcing, something was supposed to have been done by somebody, but AFAICT nothing really changed except for even MOAR fentanyl coming in from across the border, all of it illegal by US standards.
Yet young people think nothing of getting marijuana from casual sources, and now & then one of them turns up DEAD from the fentanyl added unbeknownst to them. Hence the PR releases saying: "One pill, one time, one dead"

[IsraelTimes] Police say dozens of people rioted, hurled chairs at officers in flashpoint neighborhood
Fresh unrest was reported Friday in the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Sheikh Jarrah, which has been a flashpoint for demonstrations and rioting in recent months.
Police said dozens of people were rioting and hurling chairs at officers at the scene. A cop was lightly hurt after being hit in the head with one of the chairs and was taken to receive medical care.
Police said they arrested two suspects, one for throwing the chair that hit the policeman and another for making threats.
Sheikh Jarrah, a neighborhood that is a 10-minute train ride away from Jerusalem’s city center, has emerged as a symbolic flashpoint in the Israeli-Paleostinian conflict. Over the past few years, a handful of Jewish nationalists have moved into the mostly Paleostinian neighborhood, mostly through complex eviction cases.
Tensions in the neighborhood have risen in recent months due to long-simmering court battles over dozens of homes in the neighborhood in which Paleostinian families have lived for decades, but which Jewish groups claim legally belong to them.
Many Paleostinians and their supporters see that conflict as part of a larger effort by Israel to expunge their presence from the contested capital. The dispute — along with festivities at the Temple Mount — played a role in the Hamas, one of the armed feet of the Moslem Brüderbund millipede, terror group’s decision to fire a barrage of rockets at Jerusalem in May, sparking a brutal 11-day conflict between Israel and the Gazoo ...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with an iron fist by Hamaswith about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response... Strip.
On Thursday police said prosecutors plan to indict a 14-year-old Paleostinian girl who allegedly stabbed a Jewish woman in Sheikh Jarrah last week.
According to police, the girl planned the morning of the attack to carry out the stabbing, and followed her target — 26-year-old Moriah Cohen — for several minutes before stabbing her in the back in the neighborhood, where they both live.
Cohen — who was with her children at the time of the attack — was treated at the hospital and released the same day.
The past few weeks have seen a rise in Paleostinian terror attacks, with four taking place in Jerusalem alone.
[IsraelTimes] Group allegedly smashed property in village near Nablus, broke into a home and beat a resident after killing of yeshiva student
A group of holy warrior Israeli settlers assaulted Paleostinians and vandalized property in a West Bank village near Nablus Thursday overnight, Paleostinian media reported Friday, hours after a settler was killed and two others were maimed in a shooting attack.
The reports said dozens of cars were damaged in Qaryut, south of Nablus, and three people were maimed. Assailants broke into the home of one family, smashed furniture and beat one of its inhabitants, Wael Moqbel.
Photos shared on social media showed Moqbel in hospital with intense swelling in his face.
Police said they had received reports of the attack and were investigating the matter.
It seemed likely that the alleged assault was a so-called "price tag" attack following the deadly shooting earlier. Perpetrators claim such attacks are retaliation for Paleostinian violence or government policies seen as hostile to the settler movement.
Recent days have seen a national discussion over settler violence, after Public Security Minister Omer Barlev announced that he had discussed the issue with a visiting American diplomat earlier this week, leading the coalition’s right-wing flank to censure him and defend the settler movement.
Foreign Minister Yair Lapid told an American periodical earlier this month that holy warrior violence is "a stain on Israel."
The past year has seen a substantial increase in violent mostly peaceful attacks by Israeli extremists against Paleostinians.
The fatality from Thursday’s terror shooting was named as Yehudah Dimentman, 25, a father of one from the West Bank settlement of Shavei Shomron. He was a student at the yeshiva, or religious school, in the Homesh outpost in the West Bank, near where the attack took place.
Dimentman and two others were fired on while driving a car as they left Homesh on Thursday night. A military official said the car had been ambushed from the side of the road. The other two passengers sustained light injuries in the attack from broken glass.
Security forces were searching Friday for the perpetrators.

[Garowe] Government-aligned forces in western Tigray have systematically detained thousands of ethnic Tigrayan people, while torturing and killing many in a campaign of violence, according to a report by two major rights groups that further reveals the scale of abuses in war-hit Æthiopia.
In the past few weeks, the report says, Tigrayans in the Amhara region identified by local police and ethnic militia forces called Fano have been routinely rounded up in house-to-house raids. Adults and teenagers over 15 have been detained in overcrowded prisons where scores are tortured and face starvation, it adds.
Women and younger children have been expelled from the three western Tigrayan towns targeted, while many have been killed and tortured, according to witnesses and survivors interviewed in the joint report by Amnesia Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch.

[IsraelTimes] Biden’s national security adviser, Jake Sullivan says ’we do not yet have a pathway back’ to 2015 nuclear deal as Vienna talks paused.
It sounds like talks have become pointless. So what are you going to do about this existential crisis, other than wring your hands while you wait for the bomb to drop — first on Israel, then on Saudi Arabia, then on Washington, DC?
The United States estimates the amount of time Iran ...Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979... needs to churn out enough highly enriched uranium for a nuclear bomb is now "very short," a Biden administration, the guys that caused the debacle in Afghanistan ...the pack of self-imagined masterminds of strategy and intrigue at the service of the Biden Crime Family and a grateful nation... official said Friday.
The official, who briefed news hounds on condition of anonymity, did not specify the amount of time Iran needs to produce enough material for a nuclear weapon. Estimates have put the breakout time at several months.
"But it’s really short. It is unacceptably short," the official was quoted as saying by Rooters.
In a blow to European mediators, Iran requested a new pause in the talks in Vienna, which aim to bring the United States back into the 2015 agreement and roll back nuclear activities. The Islamic Theocratic Republic stepped up its nuclear projects after the US withdrawal.
The talks had just resumed in late November after a five-month break following the election of a new hardline government in Iran.
Underlying Western concerns are fears that Iran will soon have made enough progress that the 2015 accord — under which it was promised economic relief in return for drastic curbs on its nuclear work — will be obsolete.
It was obsolete the day it was presented for signatures, but that was intended by both Iran’s Mad Mullahs and the Barack Obama administration.
Negotiators at indirect talks between #Iran and the #US have just weeks to reach an agreement on rescuing the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, European powers and the talks’ coordinator say as negotiations adjourn for at least 10 days.https://t.co/ZbmOtCSVFn

Israel has a nuclear deterrent. They have stated in the past the Samson Option: that if Israel is in danger of ceasing to exist, they will launch their nuclear weapons onto the capitals of Western Europe. So the Europeans will be motivated to fix this one for them.
#2
I don't doubt Israel would go all Sampson on their Persian asses. That is just Mutual Assured Destruction (MAD) with a little Middle Eastern seasoning.
I'm skeptical, however, the Euros will do anything. From the Euro point of view, war takes care of two problems - Israel and Iran. As long as Euro-land can get fuel from Russia, they're golden.

[FlashpointIntel] Now a week since the Apache Log4j disclosure, organizations are feverishly attempting to identify and patch all potential vulnerabilities to their systems and infrastructure. In the meantime, threat actors across various illicit communities are actively discussing ways to exploit and further monetize this vulnerability.
Below, we break down the most significant chatter amongst threat actor groups, with a particular focus on deep and dark web forums XSS, Raid, and RAMP.

Basically: a widely used bit of shared code has a feature that makes it easy to open access to the computer running it. That feature, for some reason, was enabled for everyone rather than requiring the few people who wanted it to enable it for themselves.
In the last week and a half, most of the software using that shared code -- and a lot that doesn't -- has been updated so that feature is disabled. I've personally burnt half the week on it, despite none of the projects I'm responsible for using the vulnerable code.
The only consumer application I'm aware of that uses the code is Java Minecraft, and updates for it and its various utilities went out the first night after the vulnerability was announced.

It is used in a lot of Java-based business applications I'm afraid. Even if it is not used directly, a library which you app uses might use it. The Minecraft server is just one example - and it is just game.
For example a widely used application server, karaf, uses it. A 'patched' version is due out in the next day or two. in the meantime a lot of business had to go and explicitly disable the 'feature'.
There is also a lot of scanning and looking for the exploit going on the internet according those who monitor such things.

Substance use among American teens dropped 'significantly' among teens in 2021
Drop is the largest on record since the annual National Institute on Drug Abuse survey began in 1975
Experts speculate widespread remote learning may have limited access to drugs
Two-thirds of teens in the survey took the poll online while learning from home
They may have been more reluctant to be honest while taking the survey at home So possibly none of this is true, especially given all the other reports about significantly increased drug and alcohol use overall during the shutdown and significantly increased anxiety and depression in schoolchildren? Got it.
It’s always the hoarders and wreckers who ruin it for the pure-hearted fanatics.
[KhaamaPress] Security officials of the Taliban ...Arabic for students... in the Afghan capital Kabul said that they have arrested 21 suspects in exchange market-Sara-e-Shahzada-who wanted to smuggle dollars to neighboring Pakistain.
Officials have also claimed that $18 million have been seized from the people.
In the meantime, provincial officials in Khost province ... across the border from Miranshah, within commuting distance of Haqqani hangouts such as Datta Khel and probably within sight of Mordor. Khost is populated by six different tribes of Pashtuns, the largest probably being the Khostwal, from which it takes its name... claim to have arrested a number of smugglers in the province who intended to smuggle dollars to Pakistain.
It comes after the interim government of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan directed security officials to arrest those who smuggle dollars out of Afghanistan and hold them countable as national traitors.
The economic commission of the IEA led by Deputy PM Abdul Salaam Hanafi made the decision after Afghani (currency) exchanged for its lowest cost ever.
The devaluation of the local currency doubled the prices of foodstuff and oil that worsened the already disastrous humanitarian situation in Afghanistan.
It is believed that smugglers buy dollars in Kabul and smuggle it out of Afghanistan which leads to a lack of dollars in cash and thus devaluation of local currency.
[CIS] MPP continues, and the Biden administration should be chastened
The Biden administration has already reinstated MPP — with conditions and limitations, as I explained on December 3. The government could always seek to have the full Fifth Circuit review this decision en banc, with all 17 judges considering the matter, but it has not had much luck there lately.
The court was not pleased with the way the administration presented this case. The government had requested that the Fifth Circuit vacate the district court’s judgment and remand it back, an equitable — as opposed to legal — remedy. The circuit court held that "DHS’s litigation tactics" — issuing the October 29 MPP termination redo while the case was on appeal — "tilt the equities decidedly against vacatur".
What the administration has received instead is more bad precedent in a court where it already had plenty. The president should learn from this matter, however, and start applying the INA as written, and follow Congress’s mandates therein. If the administration’s not chastened by this matter, it should be.

And why not? The Russians dissolved the Warsaw Pact and withdrew their troops just like they promised.
There is no way that admitting Ukraine to NATO is a good idea. It is literally a provocation to war. Who would like to have a big shooting war with a nuclear power? When the generals in charge are the same geniuses who couldn't beat Afghanistan even with $2 trillion and twenty years to get the job done? How much will this new war cost?
We humiliated Gorbachev and then Yeltsin, and plunged the Russian public into ten years of misery and chaos as their country was stolen from them by a kakocracy of bandits (sound familiar, mah fellow Americans?)
We should have the decency and good sense to grab this proposal and run with it. NATO is a useless burden for us and a drag on resources that ought to be deployed to the Pacific and to our southern border.
Ukraine should be a neutral and demilitarized border country as Austria or Finland were (provided that the Russian-speaking parts get real autonomy and independence from Kyiv).
[IsraelTimes] 54-year-old Robert Palmer says he is ashamed of his actions, after watching a video of himself attacking officers with a pole and hurling a fire extinguisher at them.
A Capitol rioter who attacked coppers working to hold back the angry pro-Trump mob on January 6 was sentenced Friday to more than five years behind bars, the most so far for anyone sentenced in the insurrection.
Robert Palmer, 54, of Largo, Florida, wept as he told US District Judge Tanya Chutkan that he recently watched a video of his actions that day and could not believe what he was seeing.
"Your honor. I’m really really ashamed of what I did," he said through tears.
Palmer was one of several rioters sentenced on Friday in District of Columbia court for their actions that day, when the angry mob descended to disrupt the certification of Joe The Big Guy Biden ...46th president of the U.S. The nincompoop who dumped Afghanistan. The copier doesdn't exist that could reelect him.... ’s victory following a rally by then-President Donald Trump ...Oh, noze! Not him!... . Scores of police were beaten and bloodied, five people died
No, Ay Pee journalist. One person died — Ashlee Babbit, shot dead by a Capitol Police lieutenant. The others died of various causes, including suicide, over the next six months or so.
and there was about $1.5 million in damage done to the US Capitol.
How much done by Antifa and FBI informants leading and encouraging misbehaviour vs. Trump voters?
Palmer is the 65th defendant to be sentenced overall. More than 700 people have been charged.
The rest are experiencing justice so long delayed as to be justice denied.
A college student who posted online that "Infamy is just as good as fame" after she climbed through a broken window at Capitol was sentenced to a month in jail for her actions. Gracyn Courtright, 23, of Hurricane, West Virginia, didn’t injure anyone, though, and her sentence reflected that.
Is that in addition to nearly a year in prison awaiting trial? If yes, it suddenly is not a minor sentence.
But Palmer made his way to the front line during the chaos and started to attack, throwing a wooden plank, spraying a fire extinguisher, then hurling it when it was done. He rooted around for other objects, prosecutors said. He was briefly pepper-sprayed by police before he attacked officers again with a pole. He pleaded guilty to attacking officers.
If that is indeed what happened, so he should. The next question is whether he was a ringer or an overenthusiastic Trump supporter.
Palmer said in a handwritten letter to the judge that he felt betrayed by Trump and his allies who fed them conspiracy theories.
"Trump supporters were lied to by those at the time who had great power," he wrote. "They kept spitting out the false narrative about a stolen election and how it was ’our duty’ to stand up to tyranny."
Palmer, who has been held at the DC jail among fetid conditions that prompted a review by authorities, said it wasn’t fair that he be punished so severely when the ringleaders aren’t even behind bars.
The top floor of the FBI and Antifa cadres? Agreed.
The judge agreed — to a point. "It is true that the people who extorted you and encouraged you and rallied you to go and take action have not been charged," she said. "That is not the court’s decision. I have my opinions but they are not relevant."
Before Palmer’s sentencing of 63 months, the longest prison term handed down for a Capitol rioter was 41 months. That was the sentence received by both
Jacob Chansley
, the
...mentally ill — they keep forgetting to report that he’s mentally ill....
Arizona man who wore a horned fur hat, bare chest and face paint inside the Capitol; and New Jersey gym owner Scott Fairlamb, the first person to be sentenced for assaulting a law enforcement officer during the riot.
"It has to be made clear ... trying to stop the peaceful transition of power and assaulting law enforcement officers is going to be met with certain punishment," the judge said. "There are going to be consequences. I’m not making an example of you. I’m sentencing you for the conduct you did."
Courtright, 23, of Hurricane, West Virginia, sobbed as she told US District Court Judge Christopher Cooper that "if I could take back anything in my life it would be my actions on January 6."
She posted photos of herself online — like scores of other rioters — reveling in the moment. "Can’t wait to tell my grandkids I was here!" she wrote, and inside the Senate chamber, she was photographed holding a "Members only" sign.
"I will never be the same girl again," the University of Kentucky student said through tears. "This has changed me completely."
After the riot, she dug in on social media when she was criticized for her actions, before eventually deleting her accounts. Courtright is among the youngest of those charged in the Capitol riot so far.
Her attorney on Friday argued she had no idea what she was doing and that she wasn’t a political activist — she didn’t even vote in the election she was there to protest. The judge seized on that during his remarks.
"That is your choice obviously, but in my view — if any citizen wants to participate in our democracy, casting a vote is the price of admission," he said. "Because when you do that, you have to study the issues and the candidates, learn what their policies are, figure out how those policies are affecting your community."
Participating in a democracy isn’t like going to a University of Kentucky game and "rooting for a team just because of the color of their jerseys," the judge said. "It’s certainly not resorting to violence when your team doesn’t win the game," he told Courtright.
Cooper also noted that Courtright made it to the floor of the US Senate at about the exact time that Ashli Babbitt, on the House, side was rubbed out.
"Do you know how many people died on January 6, 5. Including Ms. Babbitt?" he asked. "Five."
Lie. Only one, including Ms Babbitt.
"Do you know how many Capitol coppersdid away with himself after January 6, harmed from the trauma of that day? Four," the judge added. "So was it cool to have been there?"
"No," she answered emphatically.
Still, the judge said the recommended six months in prison was too high and sentenced her instead to 30 days, one year of supervised release, and 60 hours of community service.
He said he hoped she could pull her life together and that she "should not be judged by the worst mistake you have made in your life."
Courtesy of Skidmark, the Daily Mail has photos from the day, and also Mr. Palmer’s written contrition.
Do you know how many people were killed, you lying asshole? ONE. Ashli Babbitt -- who threatened no one.
Can you mendacious f--kwads count for us the number of citizens slaughtered so far by your BLM paramilitary wing in its carnival of violence?
Do you even know how many Secret Service and White House Security officers these violent monsters sent to the hospital in their assault on the White House in May 2020? Here's a clue for you: it's a very large multiple of your bogus "five" number for the Capitol Hill trespassers' non-victims.
How many of those ACTUAL insurrectionists have you convicted and given multi-year sentences to?

[AnNahar] Syrian national Issa Shamma expressed gratitude and hope as he is getting ready to leave Cyprus to start a new life in Italia barely a week before Christmas.
Pope Francis ...Argentine liberation theologist, born Jorge Mario Bergoglio. He was elected pope in 2013. Rather than setting up shop in Avignon, where he belongs, the first Jesuit Pope chose to reside in the Domus Sanctae Marthae guesthouse instead of the papal apartments. He is big on climate change, against consumerism, and in favor of throwing a blanket over homosexual activity (so to speak) within the clergy. He's not real sure about the Resurrection, about Christ's divinity, and a few other things that would have gotten him burned at the stake a few hundred years ago, but he's hot for a certain South American Earth Mother Goddess... who visited Cyprus earlier this month, would take 50 migrants colonists from Cyprus to Italia, including Moslems, in a gesture of "solidarity," Cypriot authorities said.
...leaving his fellow Christians behind to be martyred, hopefully not in the hope of creating a new crop of future saints.
A Vatican source told AFP that the first group would meet the pope on Friday.
Getting ready to leave was Issa Shamma, 37, who fled to Lebanon Hezbollahstan ...The Lebs have the curious habit of periodically murdering their heads of state or prime ministers, a practice dating back to the heady days of human sacrifice to Baal Moloch... in 2017 seeking refuge from the war in neighboring Syria.
But there was "no future for my children there", he said.
He said his sons, now 12, nine and two, "had no schooling at all. I came here (to Cyprus) for my children to get an education."
He said they were among dozens of Syrians who boarded a boat from northern Lebanon in August.
Cypriot authorities intercepted them and he was taken for medical attention after his health deteriorated, but the boat -— and his family —- was pushed back, a practice rights groups have criticized.
He said he was looking forward to the prospect of being reunited with his family in Italia.
"I don't know anybody" there, he said, but "the most important thing is that we learn and our children learn."
Also a Moslem, Shamma thanked the pope and his future host community.
"No Arab country has opened their door for us, has accepted us as refugees. Western countries opened their doors for us and our children," he said.

"When the Afghan cops got out of control, we understood that Afghanistan has collapsed and we were disappointed about negotiations with the Taliban." Said Muhib.
He added that even on the 15 August-collapse day- a delegation to which he was also part of, wanted to go to Doha for negotiations and power-sharing process but everything was changing after each hour.
"Election and Loya Jirga were the two options that were planned to be suggested to the Taliban for power-sharing." He added.
About the resistance, Muhib said that he consulted the former Defense Minister Bismillah Muhammadi on whether to continue resistance but Muhammadi had told him that it was of no use.
Hamdullah Muhib called on the Taliban to establish an all-inclusive government and add to their government those who do not share the Taliban’s ideology.
[ToloNews] Two aircraft carrying humanitarian assistance provided by Saudi Arabia ...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. Fifteen of the nineteen WTC hijackers were Saudis, and most major jihadi commanders were Saudis, to include Osama bin Laden. Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman quietly folded that tent in 2016, doing terrible things to the guys running it, and has since been dragging the kingdom into the current century... landed in Kabul on Friday, officials said.
The aid consisted of 197 tons of food products and is the second of three planned deliveries. Two more aircraft are planned for arrival on Saturday.
Officials said the first two aircraft carrying aid landed in Kabul on Thursday.
"This aid is provided by ... Saudi Arabia to the people of Afghanistan. Two aircraft arrived yesterday and two more arrived today and another two aircraft will arrive tomorrow. The aid includes food products," said Fahad Ayed Sultan Asiemi, an official of the King Salman ...either the largest species of Pacific salmon or the current Sheikh of the Burnin' Sands, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and Lord of Most of the Arabians... Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center on Friday.
Officials at the Afghan Red Islamic Thingy Society said that the aid will be distributed to people in need.
"At least 95 percent of people are in grave need, currently. There is no need for a survey. A lot of them are affected by the drought," said Mullah Nooruddin Torabi, deputy head of the Afghan Red Islamic Thingy Society.
According to the Afghan Red Islamic Thingy, the Saudis will also provide 100 trucks of aid to Afghanistan. The trucks will bring aid to Afghanistan via Pakistain.
Economists said that such aid is not sufficient for Afghanistan in the long term.
"This aid can alleviate poverty for a short time but to tackle the problems in the long term, the world should engage with Afghanistan," said Abdul Naseer Rishtia.
Killing reportedly took place in the country's gas-rich province Cabo Delgado ... known for coal and ruby mines, natural gas, and jihad...
Police said the widow arrived to the local police headquarters last Wednesday
Cabo Delgado province has been rocked by attacks by ISIS-linked militants since 2017,
...since 2018 known formally as Islamic State West Africa Province-Mozambique (ISCAP), informally as Al Shabaab (the youths). They appeared in Mozambique in 2015, calling themselves Ansar al-Sunna (supporters of the tradition), more formally as Ahlu Sunnah Wa-Jamah (ASWJ, adepts of the prophetic tradition). Led by Abu Yasir Hassan (also known as Yaseer Hassan and Abu Qasim), the 40-ish Tanzanian religious leader moved between Mocimboa da Praia and jihadis in the Congo until 2015, when Tanzania authorities think he he died, though the Americans strongly disagree. They hired members of Somali Al Shabaab (linked to Al Qaeda) to train them in jihadi skills, explaining the local nickname. [AlAhram] The remaining members of a missionary group who were kidnapped two months ago have been freed, Haiti police and the group said Thursday.
The front man for Haiti's National Police, Gary Desrosiers, confirmed to The News Agency that Dare Not be Named that the remaining hostages had been released, but did not immediately provide additional details.
``We glorify God for answered prayer, the remaining 12 hostages are FREE!'' Christian Aid Ministries said in a statement. ``Join us in praising God that all 17 of our loved ones are now safe.''
The Ohio group said it hopes to provide more information later.
The missionaries were kidnapped by the 400 Mawozo gang
...which controls the Croix-des-Bouquets area east of the capital of Port-au-Prince...
on Oct. 16. There were five children in the group of 16 U.S. citizens and one Canadian, including an 8-month-old. Their Haitian driver also was kidnapped, according to a local human rights ...which are usually entirely different from personal liberty... organization.
The leader of the 400 Mawozo gang had threatened to kill the hostages unless his demands are met. Authorities had said the gang was demanding $1 million per person, although it wasn't immediately clear that included the children in the group.
[Rudaw] The tenth repatriation flight carrying hundreds of Iraqi migrants colonists is scheduled to land in Iraq from Belarus on Friday, Iraqi state media reported an official as saying.
The voluntary evacuation flight will carry over 400 Iraqis, Ahmed al-Sahaf, spokesperson for Iraq's foreign ministry said on Friday.
Thousands of Iraqi and Kurdish people have traveled to Eastern Europa ...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum... in recent months, where they hoped to cross over and make their way to Germany and, from there, the rest of Europe.
In response, Poland has tightened its border security. Some migrants colonists on the Belarus-Poland border have sustained injuries, and several others have bit the dust.
Iraq began offering repatriation flights last month, returning over 3,000 Iraqi and Kurdish migrants colonists from Minsk. It granted 420 return permits to migrants colonists stranded on the Belarus-Poland border on Wednesday.
At least 417 Iraqi and Kurdish migrants colonists, including two children, arrived in Baghdad and Erbil last week.
The exodus of Kurds is part of a migrant crisis that has compelled European nations to fortify their borders. Tensions are high between Belarus and Europe. Minsk has been accused of exploiting the migrants colonists and using them as a pressure tactic against the European Union ...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing... in answer to sanctions.
Poland has refused to take in any migrants colonists, instead calling on them to return home.
The KRG has acknowledged the existence of systemic problems and financial hardships but says it is working to address these issues.
[ToloNews] A dronezap hit a house just inside Afghanistan’s border with Pakistain, apparently targeting a senior member of the Pak Taliban ...mindless ferocity in a turban... , but the missile failed to explode, Pak Taliban sources said on Thursday.
Unexploded? Not one of ours, then. Have they looked for Chinese or Turkish markings on the case?
One of the Taliban officials said the drone fired a missile at a hujra, or guesthouse on the compound of Maulvi Faqir Mohammad, a big shot of the Tehrik-e Taliban Pakistain movement (TTP).
"It was around 3:30 when a drone suddenly appeared in the sky. We got worried and advised Maulvi Faqir to go to a safe place but he refused and argued it was not possible to hide in the day time," said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity.
Around half an hour later, when Faqir Mohammad left his own house to visit the guesthouse, the missile struck.
"He was about 3 meters away from the hujra room when the drone fired a missile and hit the same room. Luckily the missile didn’t explode and he and other people around him remained safe," he said.
Faqir Mohammad is a former deputy leader of the TTP who spent eight years in Afghanistan’s Bagram prison before being released by the Afghan Taliban following their shock overthrow of the Western-backed government in Kabul on Aug. 15.
Released and in a fancy compound with guesthouse. Groovy. Though the only ones shocked are in the Biden administration.
The apparent attempt to kill him in a dronezap came after talks to agree over a permanent ceasefire between the TTP and the Pak government broke down last week after the krazed killer movement refused to extend a 30-day truce.
“Hudna’s over. Let the killing begin!”
Khaama Press’s take on the story:
A spokesperson of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan Bilal Karimi said that Pak forces on Thursday, December 16 fires rockets on the Shaltan district of Kunar province ... which is right down the road from Chitral. Kunar is Haqqani country..... Bilal Karimi said that the rockets were fired on mountains and did not give further information about the casualties.
On the other hand, rumors had it that Pak forces have targeted members of Tahreek-e-Taliban Pakistain (TTP) and have killed a key commander of the Taliban but the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan did not confirm the rumor.
Earlier, it was said that Arclight airstrike ...KABOOM!... s has been carried out in Kunar province but the front man has denied any aerial strike in the province.
In the meantime, local residents have claimed that Pak forces want to take more land of Afghanistan and get even closer to the Kunar River.
It is worth mentioning that rocket shells by Pakistain on Kunar province are not new but the country has often been firing rockets on the province that often lead to financial loss and casualties.
[BenarNews] Human traffickers have tried to smuggle in undocumented migrant workers by sea almost every day since May 2020, Malaysia’s coasties chief said Friday, after nearly two dozen Indonesians died when their boat sank off Johor state earlier this week.
As of Friday, the corpse count had reached 21, while 13 had been rescued and 16 were missing from the boat that sank in the waters of Tanjung Balau, the Malaysian coasties and Indonesian officials reported.
"Such an unfortunate tragedy can be avoided if illegal immigrants colonists and human trafficking syndicates do not conspire to smuggle people into the country through illegal routes by risking their lives during bad weather," said Mohd Zubil Mat Som, director-general of the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency.
In this latest incident at sea, the waves were as high as three to five meters and winds blew up to 50 kph, he said in a statement.
Mohd Zubil said the MMEA’s Malaysian Marine Surveillance System "had successfully detected 1,110 suspicious targets since May 2020, with 689 of them successfully expelled from Malaysian waters."
While border enforcement is strict, illegal immigrants colonists are willing to risk their lives to enter the country illicitly, Mohd Zubil said.
"Smuggling syndicates do not care, in fact they are always looking for space to make a profit without thinking about the risk of life," he said.
Tugs and other small boats often used by smugglers are not properly equipped to sail in rough waters, Mohd Zubil said.
"The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency hopes that this heartbreaking tragedy can be a lesson and open the eyes of illegal immigrants colonists and smuggling syndicates so that they do not risk their lives by entering through illegal means," he said.
Two ships and three boats belonging to the MMEA, the Royal Malaysian Navy and the Marine Police Force had been deployed for search-and-rescue operations in an area of 79 square nautical miles, said Capt. Simon Templer Lo Ak Tusa, the MMEA’s deputy director for operations in Johor state.
The authorities were also using helicopters from the Fire and Rescue Department and the Police Air Operations Force to conduct searches from the air covering an area of 135.8 square nautical miles.
The Indonesian Consulate General in Johor said efforts were under way to identify the victims.
In a media statement issued late Friday, the Consulate General noted that the corpse count had risen after a body was found floating in the sea and another victim died while receiving treatment at the hospital.
"As of Dec. 17, the number of victims was 21, namely 15 men and six women while the number of survivors was 13," according to a statement issued late Friday.
Three of the victims have been identified and their remains are to be sent back to Indonesia.
"For the 13 Indonesian survivors, they are in good condition and are currently in jug at the Malaysian Immigration Department in Johor," the statement said.
"Based on the verification process, nine of them are from Lombok while the rest are from Pekanbaru, Jember and Tanjung Balai Karimun."
The consulate said officials would ensure the health and rights of citizens in detention were maintained, and it urged all Indonesians to not enter or leave neighboring Malaysia illegally.
In August, the Malaysian government reported that it had repatriated nearly 90,000 undocumented migrants colonists, beginning in November 2020, under amnesty programs to send them to their home countries.
At that time, the Indonesian embassy estimated that about 2.7 million of its citizens were working in Malaysia but only 704,000 have the necessary documentation.

Drownings Draw Attention to Immigrants’ Efforts to Sneak into Texas
[OneIndia] The US State Department said that 66 Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems.... snuffies of Indian origin were operating abroad with the global terrorist organization.
The report also said that none of the Indian ISIS snuffies were repatriated. Within India, through the end of September, the National Investigation Agency had investigated 34 terrorism cases it indicated were related to ISIS and arrested 160 persons, the annual Country Reports on Terrorism for 2020 issued by the department's Bureau of Counterterrorism said.
Although ISIS lost its territory in Syria, new branches that surfaced in 2019 in Pakistain and India continued to operate, the report said.
While the first cases of Indian Moslems joining the ISIS were reported from Syria and Iraq, of late the problem has been in Afghanistan. A number of persons from Kerala had in 2019 left for Afghanistan and joined the Islamic State Khorasan Province.
Four women were among the 21 who left Kerala to join the ISKP in Afghanistan.
Earlier this month, the NIA court in Kochi sentenced a Wayanad native to 5 years imprisonment for travelling to Afghanistan in an attempt join the ISIS. Nashidul Hamzafar, 29, a resident of Kalpetta, pleaded guilty to the charges.
The ISIS menace in India has been more in the southern part of the country. The National Investigation said that it has arrested as many as 1168 accused in 37 cases related to the Islamic State.
Chargesheets have been filed in 31 cases and 27 were convicted after trial.
Not just Kerala, the problem is intense in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka as well. When one speaks
In January a case was registered in Bengaluru against one Mehboob Pasha who in association with Khaja Moideen an accused in several cases in Tamil Nadu formed a gang to recruit Moslems in South India for the ISIS.
This group also identified Burdwan in Bengal, Ratnagiri in Maharashtra and Jambusar in Gujarat ...where rioting seems to be a traditional passtime... to spread their ideology. The primary intent of this module was to recruit Moslem youth and send them to join the ISIS in Afghanistan. Further they also planned that the local module would target Hindu leaders.
The NIA's IG, Alok Mittal had said at a conference that the highest known recruits from India are from Tamil Nadu with the number at 33. He had said during a 2019 conference that out of the 127 known recruits from India, 33 alone were from Tamil Nadu. Since 2019 several have died and today as per the US report the known number of Indian Islamic State snuffies stands at 66.
Out of the 127 Indians who joined the ISIS, 21 are from Kerala. The figures for the rest of the country are Uttar Pradesh (1(, Telangana (14), Maharashtra (12), Karnataka (8) and Delhi (7).

[IsraelTimes] US pro-Israel lobby says profound change is ’an opportunity to significantly deepen and strengthen the involvement of the pro-Israel community in politics’
It has been for decades a recurring confusion for some in Washington: does AIPAC, the country’s largest pro-Israel lobby, have a PAC?
Not until today.
The PAC in AIPAC stands for Public Affairs Committee, not political action committee. But after countless explanations over the years, the group is getting into the fundraising business.
The American Israel Public Affairs Committee on Thursday launched a regular political action committee, which funnels $5,000 maximum donations to designated candidates per race, and a super PAC, which can raise unlimited money for a candidate. AIPAC PAC will be the name of the regular PAC, while the super PAC has yet to be named.
"The creation of a PAC and a super PAC is an opportunity to significantly deepen and strengthen the involvement of the pro-Israel community in politics," AIPAC spokesman Marshall Wittmann said in an email. "The PACs will work in a bipartisan way." Oh goody. Then they can control both sides.
One must admire the touching faith in humanity demonstrated when those who claim to believe the Jooooos control the world do not hesitate to say so where Joooos and philosemites are known to hang out.
[AlAhram] Ukraine said Friday that one of its soldiers was killed in fighting with pro-Russia separatists in the east of the country, as tensions with Moscow soar.
I assume the reporter means the Donbas.
Kiev has been battling a pro-Moscow insurgency in two breakaway regions bordering Russia since 2014, when the Kremlin annexed Ukraine's Crimean peninsula.
Russia has massed troops near Ukraine's borders and the West has for weeks accused it of planning an invasion, warning Moscow of massive sanctions should it launch an attack.
The Ukrainian army said separatists had targeted its positions with grenade launchers and mortars.
"One serviceman was fatally maimed," and another soldier was injured, it said on Facebook.
Kiev and its allies accuse Russia of supporting the rebels militarily -- claims which Moscow denies.
The latest death brings Ukraine's toll in the simmering conflict to 65 since the start of the year, according to an AFP tally based on official figures, compared to a total of 50 in all of 2020.
Russia has massed around 100,000 troops on its side of the border.
US President Joe The Big Guy Biden ...46th president of the U.S. You're a lyin' dog-faced pony soldier. Of course Corn Pop is a real person.... warned his Russian counterpart President Vladimir Putin ...President-for-Life of Russia. He gets along well with other presidents for life. He is credited with bringing political stability and re-establishing something like the rule of law, which occasionally results in somebody dropping dead from poisoning by polonium or other interesting substance. Under Putin, a new group of business magnates controlling significant swathes of Russia's economy has emerged, all of whom have close personal ties to him. The old bunch, without close personal ties to Putin, are in jail or in exile or dead from poisoning by polonium or other interesting substances... of "sanctions like he's never seen" should the troops attack Ukraine.
European Union ...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing... leaders on Thursday urged Moscow to halt its military build-up and return to talks led by La Belle France and Germany.
The conflict in eastern Ukraine has so far left more than 13,000 dead.
Elon Musk and Senator Elizabeth Warren on Monday began their most recent spat
Musk was named Time's person of the year, but was criticized by Warren - who has long called for the rich to pay more tax - as 'the world's richest freeloader'
The two then traded barbs, and on Wednesday Warren appeared on MSNBC's Joy Reid's show and continued her attacks
Musk had called Warren a 'Senator Karen', and then accused Reid of being a lobbyist for 'Senator Karen'
Reid accused Musk of 'misappropriating black vernacular for misogynistic purposes' with his use of the term 'Karen'

He seems to be using her as a speed-bag right now. Rock on, Elon.

He's not wrong.
It isn't about equality. It is about habitually poor decision makers having an excuse to gang up on productive people while users make profits off of the chaos.
Correction: the third front involved in the Vyazma operation was the Kalinin Front, not the Volkov Front. Corrected.
[YouTube] The film The Last Stand is about how Soviet trained military cadets took part of the defense of Moscow 80 years ago last October. US and UK film reviewers decry it as “jingoistic,” their pejorative for patriotic.
Aside from the snidely ignorant descriptions of the film in paid English language media reviews, some significant information was overlooked. This is not surprising considering how ignorant even paid media is on Russian affairs, past or current.
The film is set in October, 1941 in the Podolsk Artillery School, at the same time of the Soviet disaster near Vyazma. In that operation, defending on the way to Moscow was about 850,00 Soviet troops, parts of the Bryansk, Western and Kalinin fronts. The German Army began its offensive, the putative final drive to capture Moscow on September 30, 1941. By the time the initial stage was complete just four days later, 850,00 Soviet troops were trapped, captured with no hope of escape.
This is where the film begins.
The disaster for the Soviets was so great at the time that the Reserve Front, under the direct command of the Soviet General Staff (STAVKA) was folded into the Western front. At the time only about 90,000 troops were available to hold the line previously held by almost 10 times that number. When Soviet general Georgi Zhukov took over, he did as Stalin’s plenipotentiary. He spent the next three weeks moving troops into positions to block the German advance on Stalin’s capital.
The Podolsk Artillery School was commanded by a colonel, and comprised 3,500 cadets including support staffs. Following the film, the cadets at the school trained mainly on 45mm antitank guns, but they also were deployed as recon troops as well.
As the film’s narration goes on, about 90 percent of those cadets and students died delaying the German advance. They were delaying to be relieved by fresh troops, they were told would arrive in five days, a time which stretched into 12.
Now, the Russians have been going over their own participation in WWII. Some of their information on the war are very murky. There are a lot of missing and presumed dead, men and women buried in mass graves with their fates unreported. I follow two such projects online: Legenda, in the Baltic countries, and one near the Mius defensive line. And graves of both Soviet soldiers and citizens murdered in pogroms conducted by the Germans and their allies are being found and recorded all the time.
To understand that, even an amateur historian such as this writer knows, or should know, that the lions share of information about Soviet troops deployment in WWII are just flat wrong. The currently accepted English language historical record by such historians and authors such as John Erickson, Paul Carrell (AKA nom de plume of German SS officer Paul Schmidt), and others get some things right, but also they get a lot wrong.
And a lot of that wrong information came from the Soviets.
One historical matter is the Podolsk Artillery School’s cadets, which this films attempts to uncover
Now, in my last full year of full time college, I read about historic stands by Soviet antitank units against the Wehrmacht in 1941. What I read then has faded over time, and subsequent reads said that those defending Moscow against such great odds were NKVD units, the political henchmen of the Soviet regime.
The first book I bought on the subject by Albert Seaton -- a British Lt. Colonel -- The Battle For Moscow, did not mention those stands nor how the cadets fought, nor did any other texts I still own.
When I viewed the film The Last Stand, I looked up their information on the texts still in my possession. There was nothing about them, not even a mention. The participation of those cadets is a big black hole, shrouded in part by ignorance, but also by sheer mendacity on the Soviet’s part.
The Final Stand, for all its presumed faults does attempt to provide a fresh and welcomed bit of information and drama to a still mysterious war.
The film can be seen free on Tubi (with commercials). The film is dubbed in English with English subtitles.

There have been a lot of brutally honest films coming out of Russia depicting what it was like fighting Hitler's NAZI army on the Western Front. One of those films was 'Stalingrad'. Another was 'Night Witches'.
In 'Stalingrad' Russian troops were thrown into frontal assaults by their officets that the Germans cut to pieces. The remaining hand full of survivors tried to return to their own lines but all were purposely cut down by their own machine guns for retreating.

I've tried watching Russian war films before. They're terrible. They're like Chinese war films: overwrought and melodramatic. It's a pity, they don't need to do this. The source material is compelling enough without massive embellishment.

^ I highly recommend you watch White Tiger. Also on You Tube. Not so many commercials. I have watched it several time now. I recall students slaughtered in a previous film of the White Russian internal war. Fight or die one way or another.

...Sadly, cadets die for the mistakes of their leaders. The VMI cadets at New Market are still remembered at VMI today, and the Kriegsmarine sent its officer cadets into Berlin at the very end - they were still wearing their parade uniforms when they were told and marched onto the train. Not a single survivor has ever been found.

Will check this out.
Enjoyed White Tiger.
Going to throw 1944 out there as a suggestion, though not Russian.
Trying to remember the name of a movie I had just watched, Russian scouts sneak into the German lines to call in artillery/air strikes.

Another RantburgU moment. Many years ago I first read Paul Carrell's "battle histories" (as some historians would refer to that genre as hagiographies) and even noticed that certain shall we say 'unpleasantnesses' were blandly ignored...
The next round in the conquest responding to this from a few days ago.
[DW] It is believed to be an act of retribution after a small left-wing group vandalized a mosque in Leipzig on Monday. The target was the local office of the Left party.
Unknown assailants threw two sheep heads at the office of a left-wing politician in the East German city of Leipzig on Thursday night, police in the city said.
The perpetrators also set off fireworks and left a note with a message. There was no damage done to the building.
The incident follows an attack on a mosque in the city, allegedly carried out by an extreme left wing group, that sparked outrage locally.
Juliane Nagel, a politician for the Left party in the state of Saxony whose office is in the building that was attacked on Thursday night, told the local Leipziger Zeitung newspaper that: "It's now clear that we've been made responsible for the attack on Monday."
BELIEVED TO BE AN ACT OF DIRE REVENGE
Leipzig police were unable to give details as to who might be behind Thursday's incident, but said that: "Evidence was found at the scene of the crime that suggests a political motivation. For this reason, police state security is taking over for further investigations."
Nagel told the public broadcaster MDR on Friday that pyrotechnics went kaboom! outside the office and that two animal heads were thrown out of a car, as well as a handwritten note that included the word "mosque."
She said on Twitter that she believed it showed her party was being held at fault, at least by the perpetrator, for the vandals' actions: "we are being made responsible for the attack on the mosque, or for not having taken a critical position."
"That's rubbish: We've clearly stated that an attack on a place of prayer and retreat for migrants colonists is wrong!"
MOSQUE WITH OTTOMAN TURKISH TIES
Nagel's criticism of the damage done by an extreme left group at the Leipzig mosque — that left many of the building's windows smashed — was accompanied by a criticism of the mosque's benefactors.
"There's no need to fool yourselves, the imams there are Ottoman Turkish officials, they get their sermons sent over from Istanbul," she had also told the local newspaper Leipziger Volkszeitung in the aftermath.
The mosque belongs to the DITIB network
... the Diyanet İşleri Türk İslam Birliğ department of the Turkish government’s religious department, Turkey’s official religious affairs authority in Germany for the further aggrandizement of Sultan Recep Tayip Erdogan I “the much beloved” in recent years...
which falls under the umbrella of Diyanet, a Ottoman Turkish state-operated religious institution. The organization has been criticized in the past for spreading Ottoman Turkish right-wing nationalism and antisemitism.
The co-chair of the Leipzig migrant advisory board, Francesca Russo, slammed the actions of the small leftist group: "We're shocked that a group of people who claim to be against fascism ...a political system developed in Italy, symbolized by the Roman fasces -- thin reeds, each flimsy in itself but unbreakable when bound into a bundle. Its distinguishing philosophical feature is the Corporate State, which is the alliance of big business and labor with the government in service to the all-powerful State. The word is nowadays thrown around by all sorts of oddballs who have no idea what they're talking about... , oppression and street violence, commit acts of violence themselves."

There is a possible parallel to a religious act, performed during Hajj, which may have bearing here.
Remember: This incident follows an attack on a mosque in the city, allegedly carried out by an extreme left-wing group, that sparked outrage locally. The office attacked is the local office of the Left Party.
Not a fact but rather a conjecture by this poster - Only the revenge seekers know the thought behind their actions.
Further I agree with some of the other statements by the above commenters --- Start getting use to these actions, it could well happen here and people like LA's Attorney George Gascon, will do nothing to stop this kind of lawlessness too.
[AnNahar] The presence of Hizbullah ...Party of God, a Leb militia inspired, founded, funded and directed by Iran. Hizbullah refers to itself as The Resistance and purports to defend Leb against Israel, with whom it has started and lost one disastrous war to date, though it did claim victory... in the Lebanese government "continues to impede effective government action against terrorist incidents associated with Hizbullah," the U.S. State Department said in its annual report on terrorism.
"For instance, despite repeated requests by the U.N. Interim Force in Lebanon Hezbollahstan ...The Leb civil war, between 1975 and 1990, lasted a little over 145 years. It produced 120,000 fatalities. The average length of a ceasefire was measured in seconds. That's three statements. Only the first is subjective.... (UNIFIL) to gain access to private properties in southern Lebanon -- from which Hizbullah is suspected to have dug cross-border tunnels into Israel or housed or manufactured weapons -- the Government of Lebanon declined to permit UNIFIL to investigate these areas," the report adds.
Separately, the report said that despite the Lebanese government’s official policy of disassociation from regional conflicts, Hizbullah "continued its illegitimate military activities in Iraq, Syria, and Yemen ...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of... "Hizbullah continues to plan attacks and engage in other illicit activities around the world," the report charges.
It also notes that Hizbullah maintains control of "some informal border crossings" and is "widely believed to exercise influence at Beirut’s Rafik Hariri International Airport and the Port of Beirut."
In addition, several individuals on the FBI ...Formerly one of the world's premier criminal investigation organizations, something for a nation to be proud of. Now it's a political arm of the Deep State oligarchy that is willing to trump up charges, suppress evidence, or take out insurance policies come election time... ’s most wanted list or listed by the Department of State or Department of Treasury as Specially Designated Global Terrorists reportedly remain in Lebanon, the report says.
[THEEPOCHTIMES] Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) spoke during a recent gala held by a communist group, hailing the event as a "remarkable occasion."Blumenthal was present when the Connecticut People’s World Committee, a branch of Communist Party USA, held an awards ceremony earlier this month. He was introduced as a "special surprise guest."
"I am really excited and honored to be with you today and to share this remarkable occasion," Blumenthal said.
"You don’t have to agree with anyone or everyone, with any party or any particular union or organization. I’m here to honor the great tradition of activism and standing up for individual workers that is represented by the three honorees here," he added.
Blumenthal spoke for about six minutes.
"If you are not already part of the Communist Party, we invite you to participate and contribute and join," Lisa Bergmann, one of the event’s hosts, said after the speech.
The senator’s appearance was promoted by the committee in a summary of the night’s events.
But it drew criticism from others.
"My father was held captive and tortured by the communist regime in Cuba It is INSANE to watch politicians in our country embrace the ideology that caused millions across the world to pay a heavy price," Mercedes Schlapp, a former Trump administration strategist who hosts the Conservative Political Action Conference, wrote on Twitter.
"Blumenthal, one of the wealthiest US senators, is cozying up with the COMMUNIST PARTY," the Connecticut GOP said, adding that "It’s time to send our embarrassment of a senator to an early retirement in 2022."
Iraqi Kurds and the government of Iraq: BFFs for now...
[AlAhram] As a backhoe dug up the ground to build trenches, Iraqi soldiers scanned the vast farming tracts for militants; not far away, their Kurdish counterparts did the same.
The scene earlier this month in the small northern Iraqi farming village of Lheiban was a rare instance of coordination between the federal government and the semi-autonomous Kurdish region. The two sides were fortifying a joint position aimed at defending the village against attacks by the Islamic State group.
Despite a long-standing territorial dispute, Baghdad and Iraq's Kurds are taking steps to work together to prevent a resurgence of the Islamic State group.

In which the Master Rulers of the Master Religion demonstrate to the Unbelievers of the United Nations who is actually in charge in this particular situation.
[KhaamaPress] After the news of the resignation of Afghanistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN Ghulam Muhammad Ishaqzai went viral, the permanent mission of Afghanistan in the UN has announced that Naseer Ahmad Faiq has replaced Ishaqzai.
Afghanistan’s permanent mission has recently sent a letter to the UN introducing Naseer Ahmad Faiq as Charge’ Da Affair of the country’s permanent representative to the UN.
In a press statement of the mission, it has been said that the permanent mission will continue its efforts to work closely with all member states and UN authorities to address the ongoing dire humanitarian situation in Afghanistan and to ensure the fundamental human rights ...which are usually open to widely divergent definitions... of all Afghans including women, girls, and ethnic minorities.
"The mobilization and facilitation of humanitarian assistance and effective aid delivery to groups and vulnerable situation who are suffering from starvation and food insecurity in the freezing winter season are among the most urgent priorities that require immediate attention." Reads the statement.
Earlier, the UN accreditation committee had confirmed Ghulam Muhammad Ishaqzai as Afghanistan’s permanent representative to the UN and prior to that Taliban ...Arabic for students... ’s participation was delayed at least for two years.
The Taliban had nominated Suhail Shaheen as their permanent representative to the UN.
Suhail Shaheen, a former front man and member of the Islamic Emirate’s Qatar ...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates. Home of nutbag holy manYusuf al-Qaradawi... -based political office, responding to the notice, said the UN should "prove its neutrality" and give the seat to the current government in Afghanistan. "Rules should supersede political preferences."
However, you can observe a lot just by watching... the Afghanistan permanent mission has not clarified the details of how and by what authority Faiq has taken responsibility as the charge d’affaires.

[FoxNews] The Boston team plans to investigate if the gene therapy technique works with humans.
Researchers at Boston Children’s Hospital found that replacing a mutated protein in the inner ear reversed severe hearing loss in mice, according to a study published in the journal Science Advances. The first-of-its-kind gene therapy technique involved replacing a mutated protein called stereocilin, (STRC), in the inner ear. The investigators said it reversed severe hearing loss in mice and in some cases, restored it to normal levels of hearing, according to a news release.
They do have a need for Dummies
[FoxNews] Car crash-test dummies may help demonstrate how well vehicles withstand hazards, but safety advocates argue current models aren’t doing enough to protect typical American drivers. The group Verity Now, Vehicle Equity Rules in Transportation, is urging the Biden Administration to bring equity and equality to the government’s 5-star safety rating program.
The advocate group, which is co-chaired by a former GOP member of Congress, is urging Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg to require more diversity in the use of crash test dummies. In a letter sent to the secretary this week, the group argued it's a matter of life and death.
"Government standards for vehicle crash testing are outdated and unequal, causing thousands of women to be needlessly killed and injured every year," said former Congresswoman Susan Molinari, co-chair of VERITY NOW. In an interview with FOX on Wednesday, Molinari insisted the public was likely unaware how many government tests rely on a male-shaped dummy first developed in the 1970s. Verity Now’s letter was co-signed by a large group of notable Washington insiders including former Senators Olympia Snowe (R-Maine) and Heidi Heitkamp (D-N.D.).
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration insists it is using a variety of dummies on many of its tests.
