Instant Fact-Check From Fox News' Shepard Smith After Oval Office Speech
[Daily Beast] One big question heading into Tuesday night’s big Oval Office address from President Trump was how much fact-checking would be done by the various networks. And on Fox, anchor Shepard Smith did not let the president get away with his lies.

Immediately following Trump’s approximately 10-minute speech, Smith broke down a "number of claims" that were deliberately misleading. While Trump issued scary warnings about murders by immigrants, Smith said, "Statistics show that there is less violent crime by the undocumented immigrant population than by the general population."

In response to Trump claiming his wall would stop drug trafficking across the border, Smith said, "Government statistics show much of the heroin actually comes not over the unguarded border but through ports of call."

The anchor also informed viewers that the number of illegal border crossings has been going "steadily down over the past 10 years" despite Trump’s assertion that they are on the rise and the government reports that "there is more outward traffic than inward traffic."

-Short Attention Span Theater-
How author Brad Meltzer uncovered the secret plot to kill George Washington
Washington was kind of a bada$$.
[CBSNews] Best-selling author Brad Meltzer found the story behind his latest book, "The First Conspiracy: The Secret Plot to Kill George Washington," in a footnote. He said he took the surprising information to Pulitzer Prize-winning historian Joseph Ellis.

"I went to him and I said, 'Did this really happen?' And it really happened. When it happened, George Washington rounded up those responsible. He took one of the main conspirators and he hung him in front of 20,000 people ‐ the largest public execution at that point in North American history," Meltzer said Tuesday on "CBS This Morning." "He brought the hammer down, was like, 'I'm George Washington. Don't mess with me. I'm going to be on the money one day.'"

So how did the story of the plot get lost in history?

"Hanging happened on June 28, 1776. Guess what was happening in the world? The Declaration of Independence. The British were literally there and this gets lost to it," Meltzer said.

The book details an effort to undermine the American Revolution just before the signing of the Declaration of Independence and with British troops about to invade New York City. The plot connects counterfeiters, leading New York politicians and even the future president's own bodyguards. At the time, Washington had private bodyguards, Meltzer said, who were the "best of the best" from his regiments.

"These were the men who turned on him. They were called the lifeguards because they guarded George Washington's life. And I don't care how strong you are ‐ when your inner circle turns on you, it is devastating," Meltzer said.

Through the book, you come to know more about the birth of the counterintelligence movement in the U.S., Meltzer said. Washington launches a secret intelligence subcommittee to uncover espionage, with John Jay in charge. Jay went on to become the first chief justice of the United States.

"He puts into motion interrogations, kicking in doors. And to this day, we all think of the CIA, the precursor being the OSS [Office of Strategic Services], it's actually this moment," Meltzer said. The CIA headquarters in Langley, Virginia, even has a conference room named after Jay.

In addition, the book highlights Washington's character, as witnessed in the Battle of Brooklyn in 1776.

"What he does is he commandeers all of the boats on the East River, but here's the key moment: he won't get in the boat until all of his men get in first. And his men see what he's doing, he's risking his life for them. Again, what you see is not just the plot against George Washington, you see the depth of his character," Meltzer said.

"We need that in our leaders today," he added. "George Washington brought this country together... by putting his arms around them and saying to his own regiments, 'Don't fight with each other, don't argue [with] each other. We need to be on the same team.' That's where we are today," he said.

Justice Ginsburg misses second day in a row at Supreme Court
[The Hill] Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg was absent from the Supreme Court bench for the second day in a row on Tuesday.

Chief Justice John Roberts noted Ginsburg’s absence when the justices took their seats for the second time in the new year.

Repeating what he said Monday, Roberts said Ginsburg is "unable to be present" for the court’s sitting, but will participate in the decisions using transcripts of the arguments and court briefs.

Ginsburg, who was forced to miss her first oral argument in more than 25 years on Monday, is still recuperating at home after surgery to remove two cancerous nodules from the lower lobe of her left lung on Dec. 21.

The spots were found incidentally in an X-ray she had at George Washington University Hospital while being treated for fractured ribs, an injury she sustained after falling in her office on Nov. 7.

The Supreme Court said scans performed before surgery indicated no evidence of disease elsewhere in her body, and no further treatment is planned.

Ginsburg, 85, is known for her stamina, having already survived two bouts of cancer prior to this most recent diagnosis ‐ colon cancer in 1999 and pancreatic cancer in 2009.

#4  Question is, at what point is a justice deemed incapable of performing the job and the seat to be filled?

Two months on life support?

I would say an appointment for life means 24/7 availability, a salaried position if you will, and missing 5% of a 365 day contracted position at least opens up discussion of breach of contract. Senate question.

#14  I actually feel sorry for RBG, I don't agree with her left wing decisions, or outbursts against Trump, however this is an 85 yo woman in poor health that probably should have retired under Obama considering her left leaning politics. Hell the Dems are fantasizing about giving her a day of their own life to prop her up for Gods sake. To remain working probably isn't in her best interest right now but feels the strong push from Dem's to stay being the selfish bastards they are.

I don't wish her any harm, however, that being said, I believe we are blessed that we may get another Conservative SCOTUS appointed under Trump. After Kavanaugh my God it'll be a s*** show, I predict popcorn sales going through the roof.

Science & Technology
Breath Test gagets measure metabolism, tell you what to eat
[BBC] Two gadgets that analyse the gases in people's breath in an effort to reveal how they should improve their diet are being showcased at the CES tech show in Las Vegas.

Lumen and FoodMarble are both pocket-sized devices that users blow into.

They each pair with a smartphone app that tells people how well they are digesting food or burning calories.

But one expert said such technology has yet to be properly validated by scientists.

Lumen has raised almost $2m (£1.57m) on the crowdfunding site Indiegogo. It has designed an inhaler-shaped product that measures carbon dioxide levels in the user's breath.

The firm says this provides a way of monitoring a person's metabolism - the chemical processes that, among other things, convert food into energy.

"You don't need to guess how much sugar was in that kung pao chicken or how many calories you did on that run," explained founder Dror Cedar.

Instead, he told the BBC, the app simply explains whether the user is burning carbs or fat. It then suggests recipes that help burn fat and, over time, Lumen learns what diet is most appropriate for each user.

The Personality Trait That Makes People Feel (un)Comfortable Around You
[The Atlantic] Some people can walk into a room and instantly put everyone at ease. Others seem to make teeth clench and eyes roll no matter what they do. A small body of psychology research supports the idea that the way a person tends to make others feel is a consistent and measurable part of his personality. Researchers call it "affective presence."
So it wasn't actually 'me', it was my dip bottle ?
This concept was first described nearly 10 years ago in a study by Noah Eisenkraft and Hillary Anger Elfenbein. They put business-school students into groups, had them enroll in all the same classes for a semester, and do every group project together. Then the members of each group rated how much every other member made them feel eight different emotions: stressed, bored, angry, sad, calm, relaxed, happy, and enthusiastic. The researchers found that a significant portion of group members’ emotions could be accounted for by the affective presence of their peers.

It seems that "our own way of being has an emotional signature," says Elfenbein, a business professor at Washington University in St. Louis.

It’s been known for some time that emotions are contagious: If one person feels angry, she may well infect her neighbor with that anger. But affective presence is an effect one has regardless of one’s own feelings‐those with positive affective presence make other people feel good, even if they personally are anxious or sad, and the opposite is true for those with negative affective presence.

Rosenstein plans to leave Justice Dept. shortly after Barr confirmed
[10 News - CNN] Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein is planning to leave the Justice Department shortly after William Barr, the President's nominee for attorney general, is confirmed, according to a source familiar with his thinking

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein is planning to leave the Justice Department shortly after William Barr, the President's nominee for attorney general, is confirmed, according to a source familiar with his thinking.

The source said Rosenstein is not being forced out, and he has conveyed his thinking to the White House.

Barr's Senate confirmation hearing begins January 15, which means a confirmation vote at the earliest would occur in mid-February.

Rosenstein's plans were earlier reported by ABC News.

If confirmed, Barr would then oversee the special counsel's Russia investigation. Rosenstein has managed the investigation since it began in May 2017.

Disappointed Soldier Was Looking Forward To Hanging Out In Syria For Another 20, 30 Years
Satire warning.
[Babylon Bee] SYRIA‐Local US servicemember Joshua Reynolds reported Thursday he was "extremely disappointed" that Trump has announced a withdrawal from Syria, as he was looking forward to hanging out in the country for "another 20 or 30 years."

The infantryman expressed his sadness over the early US withdrawal, stating that it felt like he'd only just arrived. "You just start to get to know a place, and then before you know it it's time to move out."

"If they'd just let us stick around for another decade or two, we can solve all of the Middle East's problems," he lamented as his squad received orders to begin packing. "It's just really sad that I have to say goodbye so soon."

Ignominious Ingrates
[Canadian Free Press] Do you think that Democrats who are against building a security border wall on the border with Mexico, could or should be called or classified as "ignominious ingrates"? The definition of those terms by Merriam-Webster is as follows. "Ignominious" ‐ marked or characterized by disgrace or shame, despicable, and, "Ingrate" - an ungrateful person. Do those definitions describe the actions of the anti-wall Democrats and their flunkies in the main stream media?

Well, is that a fair description of the attitudes of Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer and the majority of Democrats?

Just a few short years ago, those same Democrat leaders (including Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton) were in favor of building a wall, but now that President Trump is in office, the wall is now considered "immoral" and a complete waste of money. What has changed since then? You probably guessed it, Donald Trump is now president and they (the Democrats) don’t want to give him a victory on one of his signature proposals, even if it is good for the security of the country.

All of our professionals in the field of immigration enforcement (the Border Patrol, I.C.E., the Office of Homeland Security) are all in favor of erecting a wall to deter illegal immigration, the prevention and distribution of illegal drugs, and the illegal trafficking of young boys and girls for prostitution purposes. They point out that where a wall is in place, the aforementioned illegal activities are cut down precipitously. They claim that their job would be made much easier if a wall or barrier was in place. Shouldn’t we listen to the people on the front lines of trying to enhance our national security, instead of the political hacks who put party interests ahead of our national security?

In addition, most of those very same people who are against the border wall are also in favor of "sanctuary states and cities". That’s where the term "ignominious ingrates" applies and comes into play. Any sane person realizes that putting up a barrier (e.g.: a wall) will prevent or reduce illegal border activities by over 90% (those figures supplied by the Border Patrol).

So, by totally rejecting the funding of a border wall, it shows that the nay-sayers deserve to be called "ignominious ingrates".

How many more innocent citizens and law enforcement personnel must be injured or killed by illegal aliens before common sense kicks in?

During the previous presidential campaign, then Democrat candidate, Hillary Clinton, called her opponents "a basket of deplorables", but it should’ve been directed at her own supporters who were the advocates of that policy of no border wall but sanctuary cities and states.

Our national security is at stake and the sooner those "ignominious ingrates" put sane policy proposals ahead of their political party, the safer and better off our country will be. A country divided against itself is a recipe for disaster now and in the future.

#1  They were never in favor of building a wall. If they had been, it would have been done. They claim the wall will be ineffective but I think they are deathly afraid that it will be effective. Without a steady stream of new voters from the Third World they will lose power and they know it. That's why they are fighting the wall for all they're worth. For them it's a life and death power struggle. This matter will not be easily resolved.

Toronto police reminder - please remove clothes from corpse before making box donation
[Global News] Toronto Police say a woman trapped inside a clothing donation box was found dead early Tuesday morning.

Police said they were called after 1:30 a.m. with reports of a woman stuck inside of a clothing donation box near Bloor and Dovercourt.

When authorities arrived on scene, they had to cut a part of the metal box to get her out.

Police and paramedics treated the woman, who has been identified by friends as Crystal, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Tucker Carlson: We Are Ruled By Mercenaries Who Feel No Long-Term Obligation To The People They Rule
[RealClear Politics] TUCKER CARLSON, HOST: Happy New Year. Newly-elected Utah senator Mitt Romney kicked off 2019 with an op-ed in the Washington Post savaging Donald Trump’s character and leadership. Romney’s attack and Trump’s response this morning on Twitter are the latest salvos in a longstanding personal feud between the two men. It’s even possible that Romney is planning to challenge Trump for the Republican nomination in 2020. We’ll see. But for now, Romney’s piece is fascinating on its own terms. It’s a window into how the people in charge, in both parties, see our country.

Romney’s main complaint is that Donald Trump is a mercurial and divisive leader. That’s true of course. Beneath the personal slights, though, Romney has a policy critique. He seems genuinely angry that Trump might pull American troops out of the Syrian civil war. Romney doesn’t explain how staying in Syria would benefit America. He doesn’t appear to consider that a relevant question. More policing in the Middle East is always better. We know that. Virtually everyone in Washington agrees.

Report: Louis Farrakhan Won't Rule Out 2020 Run
Satire, or is it ?
[Babylon Bee] U.S.‐An insider report from those close to notorious antisemite and Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan indicated Monday that Farrakhan will not rule out a 2020 run for president on the Democratic ticket.

Farrakhan has become allied with many key figures on the left, and is reportedly so encouraged by the warm reception he's received by the Democratic party that he's "thinking hard" about a presidential bid.

"I thought my blatant racism and horrifying comments about Jews would be enough for Democrats to distance themselves from me, but I guess not," Farrakhan said. "It seems they're sticking with me, so I may just give the old White House run a shot."

After the rumored presidential run was made public, the nation waited for Democrats to denounce Farrakhan, but he was only denounced by a large band of chirping crickets.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Jogger was attacked by a dog ‐ and bitten by the dog's owner, California police say
[The Telegraph] A dog attacked a woman jogging in a Northern California park on Thursday ‐ but it wasn’t the canine whose bite left "significant wounds" on the jogger’s arm, according to police.

The dog’s owner punched, tackled and bit the jogger in Anthony Chabot Regional Park as the jogger returned from her run, the East Bay Regional Park District Police Department said in a news release. The jogger was bitten as she tried to shove the dog’s owner off of her.

"Based on the nature and severity of the crime, police are asking the public’s assistance to help identify this female," police said, releasing a picture of the suspected attacker.

The human-on-human assault came after the jogger pepper sprayed the dog around 10:25 a.m. as the animal tried to attack, police said. The female dog owner "accosted" the jogger on the Goldenrod Trail between the park’s equestrian center and the Oakland City Stables.

Democrats Can Fund the World, but Not the Wall
[American Thinker] There is nothing like a government shutdown to illustrate clearly the priorities of the two opposing sides to the standoff. On one side is President Trump, keeping a campaign promise to build a wall, to keep crime, sex-trafficking, drugs, and terrorism, not to mention the unfunded burden of illegal aliens, out of America.

On the other side are the Democrats, hell-bent on keeping 25 percent of the government closed for business rather than funding border security, a concept they wholeheartedly supported a decade ago.

Who's winning and who's losing the battle? If you watch cable news, it's clear that the president is on the ropes, having backed himself into a corner. Reality sings a different tune. How did we get here?

Donald Trump, announcing his candidacy for president in June 2015, rode down the escalator at Trump Tower and said, "When Mexico sends its people, they're not sending their best." He went on, "They're bringing drugs. They're bringing crime. They're rapists. And some, I assume, are good people."

These were among his first pronouncements that day and have been a constant theme of his rallies and tweets since then ‐ including this tweet from a few days ago

Rep. Tim Ryan: China Is Coming At Us; They Have Detailed, Long-Term Programs
[RealClear Politics] Rep. Tim Ryan (D-Ohio) warned of China's growing influence in the Middle East and Africa and that the U.S. is "falling behind" while the Asian nation is "overtaking us in every way." Ryan also said the U.S. isn't "even acting like we are in a competition with them."

"China is coming at us," Ryan said Wednesday on Hewitt's nationally-syndicated radio program. "They are in Africa. They are locking down long-term deals in Africa for raw materials. President Trump Oval Office Address: Border Security ‘A Choice Between Right and Wrong'
[Breitbart] President Donald Trump delivered an address to the American people from the Oval Office on Tuesday, speaking about the crisis on the Southern border.
"This is a choice between right and wrong, justice and injustice," Trump said in his eight-minute address, describing it as "a crisis of the heart and a crisis of the soul."

The president detailed the ongoing migration and illegal immigration crisis but did not declare an official State of Emergency, which would allow him to shift funding to fund border security without Congress.

"This is the cycle of human suffering I am determined to end," he said.

He noted that migrant women and children were "victims" of the broken immigration system, specifically citing the more than 20,000 children brought illegally into the United States.

"These children are used as human pawns by vicious coyotes and ruthless gangs," he said.

The president described the ongoing problems with drugs and crime coming across the border, endangering the lives of Americans.

He again stated his request for a $5.7 billion wall, but said that it would be a "steel barrier instead of a concrete wall."

"This is just common sense," he said.

He defended the concept of a border wall, disputing that it was "immoral" as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi insisted.

"Why do wealthy politicians build walls, fences, and gates outside their home?" he asked. "They don’t build walls because they hate the people on the outside but because they love the people on the inside."

He argued that the steel barrier would pay for itself, and paid for indirectly by the new trade deal with Mexico.

Trump blamed Democrats for the government shutdown, noting that leaders used to support the idea of more border security.

If she and her fellow Democrats agreed on the need for border security, the border would be secure, there would be no caravans, no MS-13, no meth, no cocaine, no heroin and no fentanyl. When Baraq was president, she was Speaker of the House and Harry Reid was Senate Majority Leader they could have easily secured that border. But they didn't. So that was a lie that Nancy told and she lost me right there.

Turkey to ask US to hand over military bases in Syria: Hurriyet
[AlAhram] The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...Qatar's colony in Asia Minor....
will ask U.S. officials in talks on Tuesday to hand over its military bases in Syria to Ankara or destroy them, the Hurriyet newspaper reported, a request that could further complicate discussions over the U.S. withdrawal from Syria.

"Give them or destroy them," a Hurriyet newspaper headline said, referring to what it said were 22 U.S. military bases in Syria. It cited unspecified sources as saying Turkey would not accept Washington handing them over to the YPG.

A senior Ottoman Turkish security official told Rooters last week Washington needed to allow Turkey to use its bases in Syria.

Kalin is Erdogan's front man and deputy head of Turkey's security and foreign policies board.

Erdogan warned on Monday the U.S. withdrawal must be planned carefully and with the right partners, saying only Turkey had "the power and commitment to perform that task".

Diyala dead and otherwise dudes: 3 turbans toes up, 3 turbans tied up, infiltration foiled

Iraqi warplanes kill four Islamic State extremists in Diyala

Diyala (IraqiNews.com) – Four Islamic State militants were killed Tuesday in an air raid that was launched by the Iraqi Air Force to target terrorist hotbeds in Diyala, a well-placed provincial official said.

“Iraqi warplanes targeted several hotbeds of Islamic State in Balkana village, 90km northeast of Baqubah, leaving four IS extremists killed,” Sadeq al-Husseini, the head of Diyala provincial council’s security committee, told the Baghdad Today news website.

Al-Husseini added that several airstrikes were launched over the past period across the rugged terrain in Diyala to target Islamic State militants, who are still active in some villages.

Diyala (IraqiNews.com) – Pro-government forces thwarted on Tuesday an attempt by Islamic State militants to infiltrate into a district in the eastern Iraqi province of Diyala, a security source was quoted as saying.

Speaking to Iraqi website Alghad Press, the source said that militants of Islamic State sought to sneak into the Bardan hills on the outskirts of al-Sadiyah district, in northeastern Diyala, but fighters of Al-Hashd Al-Shaabi (Popular Mobilization Forces) managed to foil their plot.

The source further warned that Islamic State still has dormant cells in different parts of Diyala, who seek to undermine the province’s security by launched terrorist attacks against civilians and security forces.

American man said held in Iran on unspecified charges
[IsraelTimes] A US military veteran is being held in Iran where he was visiting his girlfriend, a report says, posing a fresh issue in the two countries’ thorny relations.

Michael R. White, 46, from Imperial Beach, Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party,, never boarded a return flight via Dubai in July, his mother tells The New York Times

...which still proudly displays Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize...

The US State Department says it is "aware of reports" of the detention but declines details, citing privacy considerations.

"We have no higher priority than the safety and security of US citizens abroad," a State Department spokesperson says.

White’s mother, Joanne White, tells the Times that her son had visited Iran "five or six times" to see an Iranian woman described as his girlfriend. She says she learned from the State Department that he was imprisoned in Iran on unclear charges.

White would join at least three other US citizens, two of them of Iranian descent, in being detained in the holy manal-led country.

Israel nabs suspected Givat Assaf terrorist after nearly month-long manhunt
Ynet has pictures and video of the arrest.
[IsraelTimes] Asem Barghouti, believed to have carried out deadly shooting attack at outpost bus stop, is tossed in the calaboose
Into the paddy wagon wit' yez!
in alleged accomplice’s home.

Israeli security forces early on Tuesday arrested a Paleostinian man suspected of carrying out a deadly terror attack in the central West Bank last month, ending a weeks-long manhunt.

Asem Barghouti is believed to have shot up a bus stop outside the Givat Assaf outpost near Ramallah on December 13, killing two soldiers stationed there and seriously injuring a third serviceman and a civilian woman.

Barghouti expeditiously departed at a goodly pace after the attack, evading Israeli troops for almost a month before his capture in the village of Abu Shukheidim in the predawn hours of Tuesday morning, the Shin Bet security service said.

He was taken into custody "without a shot being fired," police said.

According to the Shin Bet, Barghouti also took part in another shooting attack on December 9 with his brother, Salih, in which they injured seven Israelis, among them a seven-months pregnant woman, who was seriously maimed. The woman’s baby was delivered in an emergency operation, but died days later.

Salih Barghouti was rubbed out on December 12 in Kobar as he attacked Israeli security forces in an attempt to evade arrest, the army said.

The Shin Bet said Asem Barghouti was "busy preparing to carry out additional terror attacks in recent days."

A Kalashnikov assault rifle, several magazines full of ammunition and night-vision equipment were found and confiscated during the arrest, the security service said.

Barghouti was found hiding in the home of a suspected accomplice in the village of Abu Shukheidim, which is located next to his hometown of Kobar, the Shin Bet said.

He was arrested in a joint operation by the Shin Bet, the Israel Police’s elite Yamam counterterrorism unit and the Israel Defense Forces.

The search effort "included the arrest of dozens of Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", operatives and accomplices," the Shin Bet said.

Barghouti will be interrogated by the Shin Bet, the security service said.

In the 26 days since the terror attack, Israeli troops have arrested and questioned dozens of family members and associates of Barghouti, including his wife.

Asem, whose family has an extensive history in the Hamas terror group, was set free from an Israeli prison in April 2017 after serving an 11-year sentence.

"We had no doubt that we would reach Asem Barghouti and arrest him," said the head of the Yamam unit, whose name is kept secret for security reasons.

Seven people were maimed in the drive-by shooting attack on a bus stop outside Ofra on December 9, which Israel says was committed by Asem and Salih Barghouti. Hamas later confirmed that Salih was behind the attack.

Shira Ish-Ran was critically injured in the shooting. Her baby ‐ delivered in emergency surgery by doctors hours later ‐ died after four days as a result of the attack. He was posthumously named Amiad Yisrael.

Shira and her husband Amichai, who sustained three gunshot wounds to the leg, have since been released from the hospital.

The day after Israeli forces shot and killed Salih, Asem allegedly rubbed out the two soldiers near Givat Assaf ‐ Sgt. Yosef Cohen and Staff Sgt. Yovel Mor Yosef ‐ and seriously maimed two other people, soldier Netanel Felber and Shira Sabag, a civilian woman.
Jasser Barghouti, Asem and Salih’s uncle, directed both the Ofra and the Givat Assaf terror attacks, Jasser, a convicted terrorist released as part of the 2011 swap that freed kidnapped IDF soldier Gilad Shalit, currently resides in the Gazoo Strip.

Hamas arrests 45 ‘collaborators’ in Israeli special forces op that went awry
[IsraelTimes] Dozens of Paleostinians nabbed by Gazoo’s terrorist rulers for allegedly aiding Israeli mission in the Strip in November that led to largest flare-up between sides since 2014 war

Gazoo’s Hamas, the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood, rulers said on Tuesday that its security services had tossed in the clink
You have the right to remain silent...
dozens of Paleostinians since an Israeli raid inside the Strip that went awry, accusing them of aiding the Jewish state.

The November 11 special forces operation, details of which the Israeli military has kept largely under gag order, turned deadly when the undercover soldiers were spotted near Khan Younis, in the southern Gazoo Strip.

The ensuing firefight claimed the lives of an Israeli army officer and seven Paleostinian terrorists, including a local commander from Hamas’ military wing.

"The security services were able to arrest 45 agents after the security incident east of Khan Yunis last November and they are under investigation," Hamas interior ministry front man Iyad al-Bozum said in a statement.

He did not say if any of those arrested were suspected of involvement in the November incident.

Following the Khan Younis shootout, Hamas, an Islamist terror group that seeks to destroy Israel, published photos of eight people and two vehicles it said were linked to the Israeli operation, prompting the Israeli army censor to appeal to the public and media not to republish the images.

"Hamas is attempting to understand and analyze the incident that occurred in Gazoo on November 11 and any information, even if it seems harmless by those who distribute it, can endanger lives and put state security at risk," the army said at the time.

Hamas, which launched a major investigation into the Israeli operation, did not identify those in the pictures.

The incident prompted Hamas to vow Dire Revenge and led to the deadliest escalation between the two sides since the 2014 war.

Paleostinian forces of Evil in Gazoo fired some 460 rockets and mortar rounds at Israel, as well as an anti-tank missile that hit a bus Hamas says was being used by Israel’s army.

In all, some 27 Israelis were maimed, three of them severely.

A Paleostinian laborer from the West Bank was killed when a rocket fired from Gazoo hit a building in the southern Israeli city of Ashkelon.

Israel hit back with widespread Arclight airstrikes in the Gazoo Strip that saw seven Paleostinians killed in 24 hours.

A November 13 cease-fire brokered by Egypt ended the fighting that had raised fears of a fourth war between Israel and Paleostinian forces of Evil in Gazoo since 2008.

In December a Gazoo military court sentenced six people, including a woman, to death for "collaborating" with Israel.

But the interior ministry said they were not directly related to the November incursion.

According to the Paleostinian Center for Human Rights, 28 executions have been carried out in Gazoo since Hamas seized control of the coastal enclave in 2007 from rival faction Fatah.

Hamas and its allies have fought three wars with Israel since 2008 and the Gazoo Strip has been under an Israeli blockade for a decade.

Israel says the measure is necessary to isolate Hamas and prevent weapons from reaching the terror group; critics say it amounts to collective punishment of the territory’s two million residents.

#1  (Other news) But the resignation of former four-star Marine Gen. Anthony Zinni on Tuesday is no obvious rebuke to Trump. Instead, it appears to reflect Zinni's frustration with the Sunni-Arab monarchies in regards to their diplomatic freeze. That freeze centers around an economic blockade of Qatar by a Saudi-led alliance of other Sunni monarchies. Those nations are infuriated by Qatar's excessive support for Islamist revolutionary movements across the Middle East and Doha's increasingly close relationship with Iran.
In comments to various news outlets, Zinni said he saw no further point in trying to push the monarchies to find a compromise. He believed they had no interest in compromise.

Omer Celik, the front man for President Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First

’s governing Ottoman Turkish Justice and Development Party (AKP), on Tuesday, rejected claims that Turkey was a threat to Kurds and said that Turkey was the Kurds’ "only friend."

"No one can teach the Republic of Turkey lessons about protecting our Kurdish brothers," he began.

"The Republic of Turkey is the biggest, even the only friend of the Kurds", Celik told news hounds, as quoted by Anadolu.

He then rejected any accusations leveled at Turkey and concerns over its treatment of Kurds.

"Those who tell Turkey ’don’t touch Kurds’ should look in the mirror and remember their oppression of Kurds", Celik emphasized.

Saudi raid on Qatif village results in several wanted persons killed
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Saudi security forces carried out a pre-emptive operation in the al-Jish village of al- Qatif province, killing several wanted persons and arresting others on Monday after an exchange of fire.

Security forces had immediately demanded the suspects to surrender themselves once the raid began, but they rejected their request and opened fire on them.

Informed sources said that all the suspects who clashed with the security forces on Monday were outside declared wanted persons lists, but has proved their involvement in cases affecting the security of the state.

Most significant of those involvements came in the targeting of security elements and premises and the disruption of development projects of the province.

Europe
Dutch Minister: Iran behind two assassinations in the Netherlands
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The Netherlands accused Iran Tuesday of involvement in the murder of two dissidents on Dutch soil, adding that the EU was hitting Tehran with sanctions partly as a result of the killings.

The Dutch secret service "has strong indications that Iran was involved in the liquidations of two Dutch nationals of Iranian origin in Almere 2015 and in The Hague in 2017," Foreign Minister Stef Blok said in a letter to parliament.

"These individuals were opponents of the Iranian regime," he said in the letter, also signed by Dutch Interior Minister Kajsa Ollongren.

"The Netherlands considers it probable that Iran had a hand in the preparation or commissioning of liquidations and attacks on EU territory," the ministers said.

They added that the EU had on Tuesday "partly at the recommendation of the Netherlands" agreed to impose fresh sanctions on Iran.

Dutch police have previously named the two victims as Ali Motamed, 56, who was killed in the central city of Almere in 2015, and Ahmad Molla Nissi, 52, murdered in The Hague in 2017.

Last June, the Netherlands expelled two workers from the Iranian embassy in connection with the murders.

Tehran at the time protested the expulsion of the two diplomats as an "unfriendly and destructive move" and threatened to retaliate.

Danish Prime Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen had earlier confirmed that the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
has agreed on new sanctions targeting the Iranian Intelligence and Security Ministry and two Iranian nationals.

Denmark had led efforts for sanctions after allegations that Tehran tried to kill three Iranian dissidents on Danish soil.

La Belle France had meanwhile hit two suspected Iranian agents with asset freezes over a plot to bomb a rally near Gay Paree.

India's lower house passes citizenship bill that excludes Muslims
[Al Jazeera] India's lower house of parliament has approved a bill that would grant residency and citizenship rights to non-Moslem immigrants colonists, sparking protests that brought the country's populous northeast to a near standstill.

The legislation, which still needs the approval of the upper house, seeks to grant rights to Hindus, Jains, Parsis and several other non-Moslem religious groups who migrated illegally from Bangladesh, Pakistain and Afghanistan.

"They have no place to go except India," Home Minister Rajnath Singh told parliament on Tuesday. "The beneficiaries of the bill can reside in any state of the country."

Critics have called the proposal, contained in the Citizenship Amendment Bill, 2019, blatantly anti-Moslem and an attempt by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to boost its Hindu voter base ahead of a general election due by May.

The bill sparked a second day of protests in the northeastern state of Assam, where nearly 4 million people, accused of being foreigners, were effectively stripped of their citizenship last year.

The Saudi troops reportedly took up positions along the Jizan-Hajjah border, which has long been contested by the Arab Coalition and Houthi forces.

The Arab Coalition is looking to capture the al-Doud Mountain region and several imperative hilltops that are still under the control of the Houthi forces in the Jizan region.

Iraq
US relocates large force to Kirkuk military base: Peshmerga
[Rudaw] A significant number of US forces are stationed in Kirkuk's K1 military base, the Peshmerga confirmed.

Nuri Hama Ali, the head of the Peshmerga Pirde Front, told Rudaw on Monday the US force went to the base because they have no other suitable facility locally.

Ali’s statements confirm several media reports over the weekend of the US forces stationing in Kirkuk.

Part of the US force was pulled from Syria and others have come from Anbar, according to Ali.

Ali welcomed the US move and said it would positively reflect in military relations between the forces of the Kurdistan Regional Government and Iraqi government.

"If the US forces remain in the base, it will positively impact relations between the KRG and the Iraqi forces as currently a Peshmerga delegation is engaged in talks with the coalition to normalize Kirkuk's situation and free the city of all various forces that have come in," he said.

The US government has made previous statements that it does not want to mediate between Erbil and Baghdad over disputed territories. Washington argues it is up to Iraqis to resolve their issues constitutionally.

Prior the events of October 2017, the K1 base had been controlled by the Peshmerga. It later fell to the Iraqi forces.

The base is just 15 kilometers from Kirkuk city center.

Diverse and disputed Kirkuk province is strategic. It is home to tremendous oil reserves, an airport, shares a border with Iran, and links several northern Iraqi provinces to the Kurdistan Region.

Thousands of families from Kirkuk and surrounding areas were displaced because of the October events. Many say they will not return until the Peshmerga and Asayesh (Security) forces go back because of ISIS sleeper cells.

KRG Peshmerga are constitutionally a part of the Iraqi Security Forces (ISF). Relations between the Peshmerga and traditional Army units are far better than with Hashd al-Shaabi paramilitias and the Federal Police.

China-Japan-Koreas
China's Demographic Crisis
[TheFragrantHarbour] The projections are becoming a reality for the Chinese government -- 2018 was indeed the turning point for the country's population to drop significantly since 2000. Some economists are already calling it a "demographic crisis" that threatens China's currently struggling economic development.

The final figure for the number of births in 2018 will fall below 15 million, well below the government's estimate of 20 million.

While China's National Bureau of Statistics has yet to release the countrywide number, provinces have already recorded lower births.

A paper co-authored by Yi Fuxian, a researcher at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and a long-standing critic of China's family planning policy, and Su Jian, an economist at Peking University, say this will have long-lasting effects on the country.

"The year 2018 will be remembered as a historical turning point for Chinese population," Yi and Su wrote in the paper. "The Chinese population has started to fall, the ageing problems has accelerated, and economic vitality has weakened.

"A great nation, which once upon a time accounted for nearly a third of the world's total population, is gradually degenerating into a small group of the old and the weak thanks to wrong demographic policies."

Hua Changchun, an economist with Guotai Junan Securities, wrote a research note saying the number of births across China could be as low as 14 million if there is a 20 percent drop in births nationwide.

He said the drop in births would not only impact China's social and economic development, but also lead to a drop in demand for property.

This last point led Ren Zeping who is the chief economist for property developer Evergrande Group, to be very concerned about the birthrate dropping and urged China to lift all birth controls "and encourage people to have babies".

China had hoped lifting the one-child policy in 2016 would lead to more births, but there was only an initial spurt, as many, especially in big cities cannot afford to raise another child, nor do they care to heed the call of the government to do their patriotic duty to procreate for the country.

#1  I have said for a while that it was going to be hard for China to field its traditionally large land army in light of its one child per family policy - and even harder to convince parents to willingly send their only child off to some questionable war. Hence - nukes or cyberwarfare.

Turkish-backed rebels issue urgent plea for help from available forces in Idlib
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Ottoman Turkish-backed rebels in the Idlib province have issued another call for the general mobilization of its forces amid another string of defeats at the hands of Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham

, Harakat Ahrar al-Sham
...a Syria jihadi group made up of Islamists and salafists, not that there's that much difference, formed into a brigade. They make up the main element of the Islamic Front but they don't profess adoration of al-Qaeda and they've been fighting (mainly for survival) against the Islamic State. Their leadership was wiped out at a single blow by a suicide kaboom at a crowded basement meeting in September, 2014...
, made the call on Tuesday for all available forces to head to the al-Ghaab Plain and southern countryside of the Idlib Governorate.

Harakat Ahrar al-Sham is currently leading the defenses around the key city of Ma’arat al-Nu’man; if lost, it would be a major blow to the Ottoman Turkish-backed rebels inside the Idlib province.

The jihadist group has not yet attacked Ma’arat al-Nu’man; however, they are expected to begin storming it in the coming hours as they assert control over much of the area.

Turkish-backed rebels in marathon-like retreat across Idlib

[ALMASDARNEWS] The Ottoman Turkish-backed rebels have had another rough day in northwest Syria after their former jihadist ally launched a major assault across the Idlib province on Tuesday.

Taking advantage of the weak rebel defenses, Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham
stormed several areas across the Idlib Governorate, today, seizing up many towns and villages that were previously under the control of the Ottoman Turkish-backed National Liberation Front

.

According to local reports, Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham has captured over 15 towns and villages from the National Liberation Front, including Tarmala, Naqir, Zaqim, al-Al-Qasabiyah, al-Hamidiyah, and al-Koulin.

Some reports have indicated that Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham has captured the strategic Jabal Shashabo region along the Hama-Idlib axis; however, this remains unconfirmed at this time.

It appears that at this juncture in the battle, Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham is attempting to capture the entire al-Ghaab Plain and southern countryside of Idlib from the National Liberation Front.

Turkey not abandoning ‘anti-terror’ operation despite rebel fiasco in Idlib

[ALMASDARNEWS] The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...just another cheapjack Moslem dictatorship, brought to you by the Moslem Brüderbund....
is not giving up their plans to launch a large-scale "anti-terror" operation in northern Syria, despite several setbacks for their rebel allies in the Aleppo and Idlib provinces.

Speaking to al-Masdar from the al-Zahra’a Association Quarter in Aleppo city, a Syrian military officer said that the Ottoman Turkish-backed rebels have made no strides to retake the ground they lost in either Idlib or Aleppo.

According to the military officer, the Ottoman Turkish-backed rebels have kept a large force at the northern outskirts of Manbij and Tal Rifa’at, prompting the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) to remain on high alert near these towns.

He would add that Turkey is not too concerned with the rebel infighting that is wrecking havoc inside Aleppo and Idlib because they are more focused on their upcoming military operation east of the Euphrates River.

The Syrian Arab Army may decide to take advantage of this rebel infighting in the near future as they look to expand their territorial presence in northwestern Syria.

What is behind the sharp fall in number of Filipino workers in the Middle East?
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Although the Middle East has become second home to about 2.5 million skilled Filipino workers, a decline in their employment has been noted in the last two years.

After 10 years of continuous growth, the deployment of Filipino workers to the Middle East went down by 9 percent in 2017 and recruitment agencies predict another 8 percent fall for the year 2018.

FALL IN REMITTANCES
The decrease in employment has been attributed to decline in oil prices and also to Philippine President Duterte’s policy of imposing a ban on household service workers to Kuwait.
The decision was taken following a case in which the remains of a Filipino worker’s body were found inside the freezer of his employer by Kuwaiti government authorities in 2018.

Furthermore, some Middle East governments have also been urging employers to hire locals to reduce unemployment in the region.

Last year, the fall in employment registered a 15 percent decline in remittances from Filipino workers in the Middle East. Remittances from Libya and Israel have fallen by as much as 73 percent and 61 percent respectively.

There are over 6 million Moslems in the Philippines and 2% of them are of Arab descent. Thus, the influence of Arab culture in the Philippines remains a binding force that continues to link the Philippines and countries in the Arab world and this has forced Filipino-Moslem workers to work in the Middle East.

Thus, with bleaker prospects for skilled Filipinos in the Middle East, these workers are now looking at other countries that are short of skilled professionals, like Japan and China.

In Japan, the country has already accepted 2,200 nurses and caregivers as part of the Japan-Philippine Economic Partnership Agreement to take care of Japan’s ageing population.

NEW SHORES
Moreover, Japan also announced that it is expected to have 50,000 new Filipino workers, following its new policy of calling in foreign workers in various industries for the next six years. A total of 50,000 vacancies will be on offer to skilled Filipinos who will work as nurses, farmers, construction workers, shipbuilders and professionals in the hospitality sector. These are also industries in the Middle East that employ most of Filipino workers.

Similarly, Chinese education sector also announced vacancies for 100,000 Filipino teachers to teach English in China. The Philippine government has already announced guidelines for interested Filipinos who want to apply as English teachers in China.

Philippine Labor Secretary Silvestro Bello has said that those interested to teach in China should be currently employed in private sector institutions of higher education, and must have their bachelor’s degree accredited by the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China.

With this development, some private teachers have started showing interest to work in China because the salary on offer is around USD 1,200 monthly, which is three to four times more than the current salary of private teachers in the Philippines.

SECOND HOME
The Philippines is one of the world’s largest countries that sends its skilled workers around the world and has 10 million contract and off-shore workers. The offers from East Asian countries notwithstanding, Middle East today remains the second home for skilled Filipino workers.

But if Middle East policies on prioritizing locals for employment remain, and oil prices remain subdued, the next generation of skilled Filipinos may have to start looking at other countries for employment that and this will not make Middle East the dream work destination it once was for some skilled Filipino workers despite the strong historical and cultural ties between the Philippines and the Middle East.

2 killed, over 20 wounded in an explosion in Khost province
[KhaamaPress] At least two people bit the dust and more than 20 others sustained injuries in an kaboom in southeastern Khost province

of Afghanistan.

According to the local officials, the incident took place at around noon time in the bustling provincial capital of the province.

Gul Habib Shah, provincial public health director of Khost has confirmed that all those killed or maimed are ordinary civilians.

In the meantime, the local security and government officials are saying that the incident took place after a cycle of violence laden with explosives exploded in a busy part of the city.

The officials further added that 25 people have sustained injuries in the kaboom and two others have died.

No individual or group including Talibs has so far grabbed credit behind the incident.

This comes as an kaboom left a number of civilians dead in southeastern Paktika
...which coincidentally borders South Wazoo...
province of Afghanistan on Monday.

The incident took place inside a market in Jani Khel district of the province, leaving at least six dead including two children.

Top Court validates Rajoelina's election as Madagascar president
[AFRICANEWS] Madagascar’s High Constitutional Court on Wednesday validated the election of Andry Rajoelina as president in hotly contested run-off polls held on December 19, 2018.

The elections commission said Rajoelina had won 55.66 percent of the vote compared with 44.34 percent for Ravalomanana and turnout was just over 48 percent.

Ravalomanana’s camp disputed the results and filed papers seeking the court to invalidate the result. The court by law had nine days to decide whether to confirm the provisional results.

Today’s ruling indicates that Rajoelina’s election stands and he returns to the presidency after serving between 2009 and 2014. Ravalomanana, also served as president and was ousted in the 2009 coup that brought Rajoelina to power.

The EU observer mission said last week that the runoff election held on Dec. 19 had been calm and that observers had not witnessed fraud.

IS counterattack in Syria leaves 32 dead, but then SDF backed by Coalition reverse their gains
[DAWN] Militants defending their last bastion in eastern Syria used the cover of bad weather to launch a deadly counterattack against a Kurdish-led force, a war monitor said on Tuesday.

The Lion of Islam Islamic State

group was unable to hold on to the positions they attacked but the assault killed 23 members of the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and also left nine holy warriors dead.

IS fighters took advantage of poor visibility to unleash suicide kaboomers on SDF forces along the front line in the Euphrates valley late on Sunday, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

"Twenty-three SDF fighters were killed and nine IS holy warriors were also killed in fighting that lasted all night and into Monday morning," Observatory chief Rami Abdel Rahman said.

The holy warriors often launch attacks under the cover of bad weather that cancels out their opponents' advantage of US-led coalition air power.

The SDF launched what is meant to be the final offensive on the Lion of Islam organization four months ago with air and ground support from coalition forces.

group in the last area under their control in eastern Syria.

Tuesday’s bombardment of the village of Shaafa in Deir el-Zour province comes a day after a war monitoring group said nearly two dozen US-backed fighters were killed in the area.

The Britannia-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said IS fighters took advantage of bad weather on Monday and launched a counteroffensive against the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces, killing 23 fighters and wounding others.

The group said nine IS fighters were also killed.

DeirEzzor 24, an activist collective, also reports heavy bombardment of Shaafa on Tuesday.

The SDF says it repelled the IS attack and gained more ground from IS near the Iraqi border.

Yezidis from Shingal tell kin they are still held by ISIS in Syria
[Rudaw] A group of Yezidis is still being held captive by ISIS in the group's dwindling bastion in eastern Syria while others are at camps designed for the Death Eaters’ families in Iraq.

"Some of them in the Sousa area of Syria have called us saying due to frequent bombings they live in misery," Daud Elias, who is from Kocho village and has 15 members of his family missing, told Rudaw.

Elias says around 10 Yezidis held by ISIS in Sousa in Deir ez-Zor are pleading for help by phone.

The Kurdish led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have been battling to defeat ISIS in their enclave of Hajin and Sousa towns in Deir ez-Zor governorate on the Iraqi border.

The SDF has reported ISIS heavy losses.

Based on information given to Elias by their relatives held in the Syrian town, some of the Yezidis have died in coalition bombings targeting ISIS.

"The warplanes have been bombing the town recently, killing some Yezidi children and women," Elias claimed, adding they are living in a "terrible situation" as ISIS is using them as "human shields."

Elias said a Yezidi woman he spoke with is asking the relevant authorities in the Iraqi government and Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) to reach out to free them.

"The woman called for her voice to be heard and to reach out to Kurdistan and Iraq," he said.

"Those living under ISIS are subject to be killed as ISIS territory continues to shrink and the group's Lions of Islam have all gathered in this small pocket," he said, quoting the woman.

Though the US-led international coalition backed operation to clear ISIS from the Middle Euphrates River Valley, elements of the Iraqi military have supported the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

The SDF and KRG have been unable to reach a deal on cross-border support. The KRG has thousands ’Roj Peshmerga’ originally from Syria, but they have longstanding differences with the dominate Democratic Union Party in Syria.

Basim Khidir, a KRG authority in the office for the rescuing of kidnapped Yezidis, confirmed Elias's reports.

"We are also aware of the fate of some Yezidis still held by ISIS especially those in Sousa in Deir ez-Zor," Khidir said.

In addition to Syria, Khidir added that other Yezidis are held in special camps for ISIS relatives in Iraq.

Exact figures on the number of Yezidis rescued remains unknown, as Baghdad, Erbil, and non-governmental organizations separately report figures.

"We are trying to rescue some of them. And for others we are searching for a solution in order to also rescue them," he said.

Located in the Shingal region on the Iraq-Syria border ‐ north of djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
‐ the Yezidi homeland was overrun by the holy warriors in August 2014.

Thousands of Yezidis were summarily executed with others being kidnapped in a KRG and UN recognized genocide.

The Grand Turk
Famous Turkish actor accused of inciting armed revolt in TV comments
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Ottoman Turkish prosecutors on Monday filed a police report against Ottoman Turkish actor Metin Akpinar for "inciting armed revolt against the Ottoman Turkish republic,’’ Vatan newspaper reported.

Earlier Metin Akpinar, a well-known comedian in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
, was accused of making "insulting" statements that alluded to Ottoman Turkish President Erdogan.

"If we do not reach this (democracy), like what happened to all forms of fascism
...a political system developed in Italy, symbolized by the Roman fasces -- thin reeds, each flimsy in itself but unbreakable when bound into a bundle. Its distinguishing philosophical feature is the Corporate State. The word is nowadays thrown around by all sorts of people who have no idea what they're talking about...
, the leader might be hung from his feet or maybe poisoned in the cellars or meet the same end as other leaders in the past," he reportedly said on television on Friday.

The Istanbul public prosecutor said on Sunday that Akpinar was being investigated over "insulting comments that targeted the Ottoman Turkish president with coup and death threats".

Akpinar, 77, and another Ottoman Turkish actor, Mujdat Gezen, had been taken by coppers separately to give testimony in the same investigation.

Akpinar had also claimed on opposition Halk TV that any leader who "turned to Russia except Mustafa Kemal (Ataturk) left office" through coups. Ataturk was the founder of modern Turkey.

Turkey has witnessed three military coups in 1960, 1971 and 1980. In 1997, an army-led campaign forced the government to resign and then in July 2016, there was an attempted overthrow of Erdogan blamed on a US-based Moslem preacher.

Akpinar said democracy was the "only option to save Turkey from polarization".

Gezen, 75, was more direct in his remarks against Erdogan on the same program: "He tells the people ’know your place’. Look Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him. It's a sin, a shame, and a felony to insult the president of Turkey...
, you cannot test our patriotism. Know your place."

The investigation into the men came after the president said on Sunday: "They should be brought to account for this by the judiciary."

Erdogan hit out at the "so-called artists" during a speech in Istanbul. "We cannot leave this business without giving a response, they will pay the price."

Thousands of Turks including artists and journalists have been prosecuted in recent years over allegedly insulting Erdogan, although most have not been imprisoned.

Bombs hurt soldiers, student in southern Thailand
[Bangkok Post] Three soldiers and a student were wounded when bombs exploded in Songkhla and Pattani provinces in Thailand's far south on Tuesday morning.

In Songkhla, a car bomb was detonated on Chonnabot Road in Thepha district about 6 a.m. Officials said rebels hanged a local resident and stole the vehicle, which was later packed with explosives. The vehicle was parked near an ad hoc security base. Two soldiers were wounded.

In Pattani, a bomb blew up near a school protection team in Yarang district. The blast in front of a local education center was reported about 7:45 a.m. A soldier was severely wounded and a 12-year-old schoolgirl was also hurt.

Attacker hurts 20 children with hammer at Beijing school
[DAWN] A hammer-wielding man maimed 20 children in an attack at an elementary school in Beijing on Tuesday with three suffering serious injuries, local authorities said.

A male suspect was brought "under control" and the maimed pupils were admitted to hospital, the Xicheng district government said.

Surnamed Jia, the 49-year-old assailant was a contractor hired by the school for daily maintenance work. His contract was scheduled to terminate at the end of January, stated the district government on its official Twitter-like Weibo account in a post that has since been deleted.

Though the school was discussing another job posting for Jia, he used a hammer and attacked students to "vent his resentment", they said.

Police have taken "compulsory measures" against the suspect.

Beijing police did not immediately respond to AFP's request for comment.

Violent attacks targeting schoolchildren are not uncommon in China, which has seen a slew of deadly incidents over the past few years, usually involving knives.

-Land of the Free
And now, The New York Times scandal
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] It is a new chapter in the open conflict between US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
and the leftist American media, but this time the chapter, or rather the book, that came out in the public eye, is from a leading journalist from one of the liberal American media’s castles: The New York Times

...which still proudly displays Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize...

Jill Abramson, the former New York Times executive editor, intends to release her book with the intriguing title ’Merchants of Truth’, which has produced exciting paragraphs published by media outlets like Fox News.

In her book, Abramson says: "Though Baquet (the current executive editor of the newspaper) said publicly he didn’t want The Times to be the opposition party, his news pages were unmistakably anti-Trump."

"Some headlines contained raw opinion, as did some of the stories that were labeled as news analysis," she wrote.

This is, of course, a violation of a professional, ethical rule of journalism, which is the existence of a deep ’isthmus’ between opinion and news.

President Trump did not pass up this opportunity, and commended the former executive editor of The New York Times Jill Abramson, saying: "Former @NYTimes editor Jill Abramson rips paper’s "unmistakably anti-Trump" bias."

"Ms. Abramson is 100% correct. Horrible and totally dishonest reporting on almost everything they write," Trump continued. "Hence the term Fake News, Enemy of the People, and Opposition Party!"

PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS FALL
The former New York Times pioneer responded to Trump on her Twitter account saying that she had always praised the newspaper, and that she was upset for journalistic professionalism, not for Trump and his policies, and that she praises the paper’s tough coverage of Trump but not through personal wars or ’trading’... this is in short.

This comes after the second media scandal in the US newspaper market, The Washington Post. A summary of it is that the articles of the Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, may he rest in peace, against Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
were aided and directed by an American woman who heads a Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates. Home of nutbag holy manYusuf al-Qaradawi...
i foundation in the US.

This also comes after the suspense-filled search for a new US law, cooked in Congress, to hold Qatari media in the US accountable on charges of promoting and covering terrorism!

The scandals come one after the next, and there is a great grinding in political conflict between Trump and the leftist base, and Qatar and Saudi Arabia, as well as Qatar’s biggest ally The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
. And in the bowels of these grinding mills, grains of morals and values are crushed, and professional standards fall.

The real picture is that world-class platforms with a long history like The New York Times and The Washington Post have been stripped of their professional cover, and appear bare in front of political quarrels.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Russian military police starts patrols around Syria’s Manbij
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Russian military police have begun patrolling around the Syrian city of Manbij, a front man said Tuesday, moving into an area once held by US-backed Kurdish forces.

Russian forces are acting in support of Syrian government troops who recently deployed in Manbij, in Aleppo province near the border with The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...just another cheapjack Moslem dictatorship, brought to you by the Moslem Brüderbund....
Kurdish fighters, fearing a Ottoman Turkish military assault, invited regime forces into Manbij late last month after US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
’s shock announcement of a full American withdrawal from Syria.

Speaking in a report on Rossiya 24 television, Russian military police front man Yusup Mamatov said MPs had started patrolling "the security zone around Manbij".

"The task is to ensure security in the area of responsibility (and) to monitor the situation and movements of armed formations," Mamatov said.

The report said Russian military police would be deployed in the area "on a regular basis". It showed a group of around a dozen khaki-clad armed military police driving through villages in jeeps and lorries flying the Russian flag.

Critics have warned Trump that an abrupt US withdrawal from Syria would allow allies of Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Oppressor of the Syrians and the Lebs...
’s regime -- including Russia and Iran -- to increase their influence in the country.
About 2,000 US troops, mainly special forces, are deployed in Syria to work with local fighters in the battle against ISIS.

Kurdish fighters formed the backbone of the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), which seized Manbij from ISIS in 2016.

They withdrew from the town earlier this month after Trump’s announcement.

Trump has in recent days sought to calm fears of an abrupt US pullout, saying any withdrawal would be done in a "prudent" manner.

It was not clear how close the Russian patrols may have been to areas where US forces are deployed.

Syria’s Kurdish minority has largely stayed out of the country’s seven-year civil war, but controls large parts of the north and northeast, much of it seized in the US-supported campaign against ISIS.

Europe
EU puts Iran intelligence unit and two staff on terrorism list, freezes assets
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
on Tuesday agreed to place a unit of the Iranian Intelligence ministry and two of its staff on the EU terrorist list for planning liquidations in Europe, the Danish Foreign Ministry and EU diplomats said.

The decision, which freezes financial assets in the bloc belonging to the unit and the two individuals, comes after Denmark said last year it suspected an Iranian government intelligence service of carrying out an liquidation plot on its soil.

La Belle France has said there was no doubt the Iranian intelligence ministry was behind a failed attack in Gay Paree.

Iran has denied any involvement in the alleged plots, saying the accusations were intended to damage EU-Iran relations.

"EU just agreed to enact sanctions against an Iranian Intelligence Service for its liquidation plots on European soil. Strong signal from the EU that we will not accept such behaviour in Europe," Denmark’s Foreign Minister Anders Samuelsen said on Twitter.

The decision was taken without debate at an unrelated meeting of Europe
...also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
ministers in Brussels and the asset freeze comes into effect on Wednesday, EU officials said.

The Danish Foreign Ministry named the two employees as the deputy minister and director general of intelligence, Saeid Hashemi Moghadam, and Assadollah Asadi, a Vienna-based diplomat. Their names are set to appear officially in the EU’s Official Journal on Wednesday.

The move follows efforts by Denmark and La Belle France to marshal an EU-wide response to the accusations of the Iranian attack plots in La Belle France and Denmark late last year.

But imposing economic sanctions on Iran, however slight, remains highly sensitive for the bloc.

The EU has been straining to uphold the 2015 nuclear accord between Iran and world powers that U.S. President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
pulled out of in May. It has been less willing to consider sanctions, instead seeking talks with Tehran.

Iran has warned it could ditch the nuclear deal if EU powers do not protect its trade and financial benefits.

Bolton fires back at Erdogan, claims NYT op-ed was ‘offensive’
[ALMASDARNEWS] US National Security Advisor John Bolton has reportedly told Ottoman Turkish officials that President Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him. It's a sin, a shame, and a felony to insult the president of Turkey...
’s article, which was published on 7 January 2019, was wrong and offensive.

Bolton, who is currently on a tour of the Middle East attempting to convince US regional partners that they won’t leave them to fend for themselves in the fight against ISIS*, noted that Washington would oppose any mistreatment by Ottoman Turkish forces of its Kurdish allies in Syria, Rooters reported, citing an unnamed senior US official.

John Bolton didn’t believe that he had been disregarded due to the Ottoman Turkish president’s refusal to meet with him, as plans for bilateral talks had not been confirmed in advance, the unnamed US bigwig said.

Previously, Erdogan, while commenting on Bolton’s statement regarding a possible Ottoman Turkish operation against Kurdish forces, criticized him by saying that The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...just another cheapjack Moslem dictatorship, brought to you by the Moslem Brüderbund....
could never compromise on the issue of the Kurdish YPG militia, as, according to the president, they had never actually fought against ISIS.

"Bolton is making a big mistake, his statement is unacceptable. Terrorist organizations do not represent Kurds. Those who spread lies about Turkey killing Kurds in Syria are trying to play on the mood of the world community", Erdogan said during his presentation to the parliamentary faction of Turkey’s ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP).

On 7 January 2019, The New York Times

...which still proudly displays Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize...

published an article written by Ottoman Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan where he evaluated the US withdrawal from Syria, noting that Trump’s move needs to be carried out in close cooperation with "the right partners to protect the interests of the United States, the international community and the Syrian people".

The Ottoman Turkish president highlighted that Turkey is "the only country with the power and commitment to perform that task".

Most wanted Malaysian militant no longer thought dead
[BenarNews] An Abu Sayyaf leader believed to have beheaded two Canadians in 2016 is back on the Malaysia's most wanted criminals list one year his name had been dropped over reports he had been slain.

In its list released over the weekend, the Eastern Sabah Security Command names Abu Sayyaf member Ben Tatoh Quirino along with 17 other Filipinos linked to alleged trans-border crimes such as maritime kidnapping and piracy.

ESSCOM commander Hazani Ghazali said, “Ben Tatoh and a few others in our 2019 list used to be in our earlier list, but in 2018, we took their names off our record because we believed then they had been killed. Most recently we received confirmation from our Philippine counterparts that they were still alive, so we re-added their names to the latest list.”

In December, a Canadian research group stated Tatoh was alive after images appeared on social media. It said the fugitive had been laying low for more than two years after allegedly beheading Canadian tourists John Ridsdel and Robert Hall. Senior analyst Jeff Weyers said his group’s investigation revealed Tatoh was still on the loose and posing selfies on Facebook, including one that showed him wearing the Philippine National Police’s counter insurgency unit’s uniform.

PNP officials said the photo was not authentic. PNP spokesman Chief Superintendent Benigno Durana said, "No, he was never a PNP member. We don’t have that name in our personnel database – former, active or AWOL."

Durana did not respond when asked if the militant could have been listed in the database under a different name.

Weyers said that Tatoh’s images appeared on Facebook in October 2018 and updates were being posted as recently as November before the profile was taken down because he apparently had posed with an Islamic State flag.

“Since then, another Facebook profile going by his other alias, Bhen Tatuh, has emerged,” Weyers said.

5 ISIS militants, families returned to Kazakhstan with US mediation: SDF
[Rudaw] Five ISIS holy warriors, 11 women, and 30 children were handed over to Kazakh authorities by the Kurdish-led authority in northern Syria (Rojava) with the help of US mediators, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced over the weekend.

"Five terrorists, 11 women, and 30 children" holding Kazakh citizenship were handed over to their country through US mediation, the SDF media office said Saturday.

The statement identified the women and kiddies as "prisoners" without specifying whether they were families of ISIS fighters.

"Months ago, in a meeting between the Syrian Democratic Forces, Kazakhstan Counter-terrorism Forces and the self-administration authority in northeastern Syria, an agreement over Kazakh citizens who had joined the ranks of the ISIS terrorist organization and detainees of the Syrian Democratic Forces to their governments," the statement added, using the Arabic acronym for ISIS.

Cooperation in counterterrorism and the method of deporting the Kazakh citizens were also discussed. The process took time due to "technical reasons". The statement did not give details on US involvement.

Foreign ISIS fighters held in SDF custody is a major issue. The authorities in Rojava want countries to take their citizens back to be tried for their crimes in their own courts. But home countries, fearing a shortage of evidence to secure prosecutions, have been reluctant to take their citizens back.

Iraq, for its part, has taken it upon itself to place suspected ISIS members on trial, frequently sentencing them to death. Human rights organizations warn many are not being given fair trials.

Following US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
’s announcement he intends to withdraw US troops from northern Syria imminently, SDF officials warned foreign ISIS fighters could be released from SDF custody.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said the SDF is seriously considering the release of 3,200 foreign and local ISIS fighters in Syria after home countries refused to take them back.

The SDF is thought to be holding around 2,080 women and kiddies from 44 different countries and 1,100 fighters from 31 different countries.

ISIS suicide bomber kills 5 in Syria’s Raqqa: monitor
[Rudaw] An Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group jacket wallah attacked a centre for Kurdish forces in the northern Syrian city of Raqqa on Monday, killing four civilians and an anti-jihadist fighter, a monitor said.

The attacker went kaboom! after entering the centre run by the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG), the Britannia-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

"A suicide kaboomer wearing an explosives belt went kaboom! inside a YPG centre after opening fire on a security checkpoint at its entrance," Observatory chief Rami Abdel Rahman said.

At least four civilians and a YPG fighter were killed in the attack, he added.

The YPG forms the backbone an alliance of Kurdish and Arab fighters called the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) battling to expel ISIS from its last redoubt in eastern Syria.

ISIS grabbed credit for the attack they said targeted a "recruitment centre" for Kurdish forces.

"The attacker aimed at them with a machine gun then blew up his explosives vest in the middle of them," it said in a statement on the Telegram messaging app.

Backed by the US-led coalition, the SDF has in recent weeks advanced against ISIS fighters in their last holdout in the eastern province of Deir ez-Zor near the Iraqi border.

The jihadists are clinging on to a handful of villages in the Euphrates River Valley, including Sousa and Baghouz.

They also retain a presence in the country’s vast Badia desert.

The SDF ousted IS fighters from Raqqa in 2017, more than three years after the jihadists overran the city and made it their de-facto Syrian capital.

Syria’s war has killed more than 360,000 people and displaced millions more since it erupted in 2011 with the repression of anti-government protests.

Turkey trial to open into Russian ambassador's 2016 killing
[Rudaw] Twenty-eight suspects were due to go on trial Tuesday over the liquidation of the Russian ambassador two years ago, including a US-based Moslem preacher blamed by Ankara for a failed coup the same year.

Andrei Karlov, 62, was rubbed out by an off-duty Ottoman Turkish policeman at a photo exhibition in Ankara on December 19, 2016, in a shock attack that was captured on camera by photographers attending the event.

The 22-year-old gunman, Mevlut Mert Altintas, shouted "Allahu Akbar" (God is greatest) and "Don't forget Aleppo", vowing that those responsible for events in Syria would be held accountable.

The U.S. Africa Command statement on Tuesday says Monday’s airstrikes were in the vicinity of Baqdaad after the military’s Somali partners "were engaged by al-Shabaab bully boys." It does not say whether any of the partners were killed.

Another U.S. airstrike on Sunday killed six al-Shabaab members near Dheerow Sanle in Lower Shabelle region.

The U.S. military says no civilians were maimed or killed in any of these airstrikes.

The U.S. carried out at least 47 such airstrikes last year in the Horn of Africa nation.

The al-Qaeda-linked al-Shabaab continues to control large parts of Somalia’s southern and central regions and carry out deadly bombings against high-profile targets in the capital, Mogadishu.

for peace and stability in Pakistain", the blurb added.

Hostile agencies behind terrorism: Langove
[DAWN] Provincial Home Minister Mir Zia Langove has said blasts in Pishin and Panjgur indicate that hostile intelligence agencies operating from Afghanistan are behind acts of terrorism taking place in different parts of Balochistan
...the Pak province bordering Kandahar and Uruzgun provinces in Afghanistan and Sistan Baluchistan in Iran. Its native Baloch propulation is being displaced by Pashtuns and Punjabis and they aren't happy about it...
, but pledged that members of security forces would foil such acts.

"Hostile spy agencies are busy in making plots against Pakistain and they have been funding and arming bully boyz targeting members of our security forces and innocent people of Balochistan," Mr Langove said while talking to journalists in Civil Hospital’s Trauma Centre where he met victims of the Pishin blast.

"The US and NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. It's headquartered in Belgium. That sez it all....
forces have now been defeated in Afghanistan and, therefore, the United Nations
...an idea whose time has gone...
should now set up a task force for ensuring peace in Afghanistan," he said.

Denouncing double blasts in Pishin and Panjgur, Mr Langove said that despite terrorists’ attacks morale of members of security forces of Pakistain was high and such incidents could not deter the government and security forces’ resolve to continue the war against terrorism.

"A single network is behind all incidents of terrorism taking place in different parts of Balochistan and that network is using names of different gangs and it is operating from Afghanistan," the minister said.

He appealed to doctors to end their strike as efforts were under way to recover kidnapped Dr Ibrahim Khalil.

Teen girl, 12-year-old sister arrested for brutally killing their mom
[NYPOST] A 14-year-old and her 12-year-old sister were tossed in the clink
Keep yer hands where we can see 'em, if yez please!
for stabbing and shooting their mother to death ‐ a brutal payback after they were punished for trying to run her over with the family car, neighbors and officials in Mississippi said.

The teen, Amariyona Hall, and her younger sister were taken into custody late Friday after deputies in Pike County responded to the family’s mobile home in Magnolia, where Erica Hall, a 32-year-old mother of four, was found stabbed multiple times and shot once in the chest with a handgun, authorities said.

Emergency workers tried to resuscitate Hall, whose relatives found her bloodied outside her home just minutes earlier, but she could not be saved. Investigators then zeroed in on Hall’s daughters, Pike County Sheriff Kenny Cotton told the McComb Enterprise Journal.

"They found out the daughters ‐ two teenagers, juveniles ‐ allegedly did it," Cotton said, adding that both girls are scheduled for mental evaluations. "They’re charged with murder and we’re going to apply the law."

Cotton said deputies reported that Friday’s attack followed an incident days earlier in which the girls tried to run Hall over with the family’s car. That prompted Hall to punish her daughters, leading them to respond with the fatal assault, according to Sherlocks.

"With something like that, she should have made charges and had them arrested then," Cotton said of the earlier alleged assault.

Neighbors told WAPT that Hall was killed days after taking away her daughters’ cellphones. It wasn’t clear if the mom took the phones away before or after her daughters allegedly tried to mow her down.

Red Lobster Caves to Left-Wing Blacklist Campaign, Pulls Ads from Tucker Carlson's Show
[Breitbart] Restaurant chain Red Lobster is the latest company to cave to pressure from the far-left blacklisting campaign against Tucker Carlson, announcing Tuesday that they would no long advertise on Fox News’ Tucker Carlson Tonight.

The Wrap reports that Red Lobster confirmed their removal of ads from Tucker Carlson’s prime time show, saying in a statement, "Red Lobster’s advertising buying guidelines reflect our core values and commitment to supporting programming that represents the highest standards of good taste, fair practice and objectivity."

"We reserve the right to make changes to our purchases when the dialogue is no longer in line with our criteria."

Red Lobster is the latest company to pull ads from Carlson’s show. He faced an ad boycott last month over comments criticizing American immigration policy, and he is once again in the crosshairs of the far-left over comments he made about many women who do not want to marry men who earn less than them.

Hariri rejects proposed 32 minister gov’t because ‘Hezbollah is behind it’
[ALMASDARNEWS] Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri
Second son of Rafik Hariri, the Leb PM who was assassinated in 2005. He has was prime minister in his own right from 2009 through early 2011. He was born in Riyadh to an Iraqi mother and graduated from Georgetown University. He managed his father's business interests in Riyadh until his father's assassination. When his father died he inherited a fortune of some $4.1 billion, which won't do him much good if Hizbullah has him bumped off, too.
has once again rejected a government formation proposal, a new report claimed on Tuesday.

According to Saudi-based Asharq al-Awsat, Saad Hariri refused Lebanese Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil’s proposition of forming a 32 minister government because the Lebanese Prime Minister believes Hezbollah is behind the move.

The report claimed that Hariri told Bassil that he was rejecting the proposition as "no matter what happens because Hezbollah is behind it."

Hezbollah "wants to impose it on the PM-designate, who does not want to introduce new norms in the formation of governments," the report claimed.

Hariri and his supporters have accused Hezbollah of stirring the issues plaguing the formation of the government.

‘We will attack anytime we see a threat to Israel in Syria’ -- Israeli ambassador
[ALMASDARNEWS] Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations
...a lucrative dumping ground for the relatives of dictators and party hacks...
Danny Danon told Fox News during an interview on Tuesday that his country is ready to attack the Iranians inside Syria at any time.

"The Iranians are not going anywhere," Danon told Fox News, claiming that "they are deploying more forces into Syria."

When asked about the security of Israel’s northern border, Danon said Iran wants "to take over Syria. They want to push everybody out of Syria."

"We cannot allow it; we will not allow it. We will attack anytime we see a threat to Israel in Syria," Danon continued.

"We will attack the Iranians; we have proved it in the past," he said.

Danon added that the U.S.’ withdrawal from Syria will not have much of an effect on Israel’s policy in Syria because they will continue to act against any threat to their state.

Car bomb blast kills two police in Iraq’s Tikrit
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] A boom-mobile killed at least two coppers and injured five civilians in the Iraqi city of Tikrit on Tuesday, a hospital source said.

The blast - described by the military as an holy warrior attack - went off at a checkpoint at the northern entrance to Tikrit, 150 km (95 miles) north of Baghdad.

Al Arabiya’s correspondent reported earlier that a strong kaboom was heard near the northern entrance to the Iraqi city of Tikrit.

In the past, similar incidents of kabooms have been rare in Tikrit, about 100 miles north of Baghdad, since the ISIS holy warrior group was defeated in Iraq in 2017.

ISIS murderous Moslems have switched from controlling territory to insurgency tactics such as bombings and attacks on security forces since their military defeat.

Death toll from Tikrit car bomb blast rises to three

Tikrit (IraqiNews.com) ‐ The corpse count from a boom-mobile blast in Tirkit city, Salahuddin, rose to three, while 10 others were maimed, a security source told Iraqi news agency (NINA).

Earlier in the day, security forces monitored a booby-trapped pickup truck driven by a jacket wallah during a security campaign in Tirkit.

The suicide bomber went kaboom! before the police could catch him.

The casualties are expected to rise.

Sudan protest hub: Defiant protesters march in Gadarif
[AFRICANEWS] Defiant protesters hit the streets in the town of Gadarif located in the country’s east. Thousands were seen in a video making the rounds on social media.

The government looks as defiant as the protesters with the later demanding the resignation of President Omar al-Bashir
Head of the National Congress Party. He came to power in 1989 when he, as a brigadier in the Sudanese army, led a group of officers in a bloodless military coup that ousted the government of Prime Minister Sadiq al-Mahdi and eventually appointed himself president-for-life. He has fallen out with his Islamic mentor, Hasan al-Turabi, tried to impose shariah on the Christian and animist south, resulting in its secessesion, and attempted to Arabize Darfur by unleashing the barbaric Janjaweed on it. Sudan's potential prosperity has been pissed away in warfare that has left as many as 400,000 people dead and 2.5 million displaced. Omar has been indicted for genocide by the International Criminal Court but nothing is expected to come of it.
Tomorrow could be a defining moment in the past weeks as two rival groups plan protests in the capital Khartoum. Security forces have routinely thwarted anti-government gatherings in the capital.
