[AnNahar] A Tunisian man tossed in the slammer ... anything you say can and will be used against you, whether you say it or not... in Germany on Wednesday on suspicion of recruiting for the Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems.... group is also accused of involvement in the deadly 2015 attack on the Bardo Museum in Tunis, German prosecutors said.
The 36-year-old is wanted by Tunisian authorities on suspicion of "participating in planning and carrying out" the attack.
He is also accused of involvement in the deadly jihadist assault on the border town of Ben Guerdane last March, the prosecutor's office in the western state of Hesse said in a statement.
Tunisian authorities issued a warrant for his arrest in June 2016, it added.
The suspect was taken into custody early Wednesday as police carried out sweeping anti-terror raids in Frankfurt and nearby towns.
"He did not offer any resistance," Alexander Badle, a front man for the Frankfurt prosecutor's office, told news hounds.
In Germany, the Tunisian national is suspected of recruiting for the IS jihadist group and of building a network of IS supporters with the goal of staging an attack in the country, he added.
Plans for the attack were still "at a very early stage", he said. "There was no concrete danger of an attack."
The suspect arrived in Germany as an asylum seeker in August 2015, the prosecutors said, after already living in the country for a decade some years earlier.
He was arrested the following August on an outstanding 2008 conviction for causing bodily harm.
After serving a 43-day sentence, he was kept in detention awaiting deportation to Tunisia before the authorities were forced to release him again.
"As the Tunisian authorities, despite repeated reminders from the German authorities, failed to supply the necessary deportation documents within the 40-day period, the suspect was released on November 4, 2016," the statement said.
He was kept under surveillance from the day of his release until his arrest on Wednesday, it added.
IS grabbed credit for the Bardo attack during which two gunniesshot up the museum, killing 21 foreign tourists and a police officer.
The Ben Guerdane attack last March saw dozens of heavily armed jihadists cross into the frontier town from Libya to launch coordinated attacks on police and army posts, killing seven civilians and 13 security personnel.

Good thing that Ford uses that lightweight aluminum otherwise a fully steel bodied Chevy wouldn't have been able to muster the horse power to climb Mount Camry.
Awful considerate also that the red light wasn't run, could have had a terrible accident ( like hitting a Toyota or sumpin')
WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) - The U.S. generated 227,000 new jobs in January to mark the biggest gain in four months. Economists polled by MarketWatch had predicted a 197,000 increase in new nonfarm jobs. The unemployment rate rose a tick to 4.8%, the government said Friday. So the previous guy lowballed the January estimate?
Combined employment gains for December and November, meanwhile, were 39,000 lower than previously reported. The government said 157,000 new jobs were created in December instead of 156,000. November's gain was chopped to 164,000 from 204,000. So the previous guy highballed the November estimate?

The labor problem is all those Federal employees who quit because of Trump.
#2
As Trump gains increasing control of the various departments, the institutionalized data manipulation of various indices like unemployment, inflation, climate date, etc., will show just how dishonest Champ and his minions really were.
#4
We know they have provided fake news so long they believe their own lies. Now with Trump every bit of negative information will be offered. Suddenly with Trump in office numbers will be reported negatively and Trump will be the reason for the declines. No need to pay them any attention. The news media has lost all creditably.
LEMON: "I’ve been wanting to have this conversation because this has been a big issue about free speech on campus and conservative voices being heard. Mr. Reich, my first question to you is, there’s a violence that we saw at Berkeley. We had it live here on CNN last night. It ultimately plays right into the hands of the right-wing white supremacist, someone like Milo Yiannopoulos."
REICH: "It absolutely does, Don. And I want to be very, very clear. I was there for part of last night and I know what I saw. Those people were not Berkeley students. Those people were outsiders, agitators. I’ve never seen them before. There’s rumors that they actually were right-wingers. They were a part of a group that were organized and ready to create the kind of tumult and danger you saw that forced the police to cancel the event. So Donald Trump, when he says Berkeley doesn’t respect free speech rights, that’s a complete distortion of the truth. I mean, Berkeley opened its biggest auditorium to this right-wing Breitbart News character, this hateful odious person. They said, ’Free speech is the most important thing we stand for,’ and it was these outsiders who caused the police to finally come in and have to cancel it."
LEMON: "You think it’s a strategy by Yiannopoulos or right-wingers? They put this on in an effort to show there’s no free speech on a college campus like UC Berkeley?"
REICH: "I wouldn’t bet against it, Don. Again, I saw these people. They all looked almost paramilitary. They were not from the campus. And I’ve heard -- again, I don’t want to say factually, but I’ve heard there was some relationship here between these people and the right wing and the right-wing movement that is affiliated with Breitbart News."
LEMON: "It is interesting because there have been protests but nothing this violent. We haven’t seen anything to this level."
#4
I’ve heard -- again, I don’t want to say factually, but I’ve heard there was some relationship here between these people and the right wing and the right-wing movement that is affiliated with Breitbart News.
The "relationship" is that George Soros hires "these people" to riot at events he considers "right wing". FTFY, Mr. Reich.
[WAPO] President Trump plans to order a rollback Friday of regulations governing the financial services industry and Wall Street under the Dodd-Frank law and beyond, a White House source confirmed.
Gary Cohn, White House Economic Council director, told the Wall Street Journal in an interview published last night that the administration would also move against a regulation designed to force retirement advisers to work in the best interest of their clients. That "fiduciary rule" is set to take effect in April. Promulgated by the Department of Labor, it’s meant to eliminate conflicts-of-interest among professionals dealing with people enrolled in qualified retirement plans and IRAs.
In an interview with the Journal, Cohn, a former president of Goldman Sachs, said the order was a "table setter for a bunch of stuff that is coming."
The move, set for announcement at a White House meeting with business leaders, would be in line with Trump’s campaign pledge to "dismantle the Dodd-Frank Act and replace it with new policies to encourage economic growth and job creation." The law is one of the most sweeping overhauls of the financial regulatory system in history. Among other things, it spawned the so-called Volcker rule, which limited the types of investments allowed by U.S. banks, as well as the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and the Financial Stability Oversight Council that’s supposed to control risks that affected the financial industry.
[American Thinker] The new Mayor of Berkeley, Jesse Arreguin, made a fool of himself on Twitter both in the run up to and the aftermath of the riots that denied First Amendment rights to Milo Yiannopoulos and the many students who bought tickets to his sold-out speaking engagement at the University of California. The rookie mayor, now in a national spotlight, bears some responsibility for signaling the rioters that their attack is understandable because, as he put it in a tweet just a couple of hours before the event was scheduled to begin, "Hate speech isn’t welcome in our community."
[American Thinker] Over the last eight years, the Left has taken the offensive continually while Republicans either capitulated, cooperated, procrastinated, or employed purely defensive maneuvers that amounted to a finger in the dam.
How things have changed.
It’s been barely two weeks since Donald Trump has taken office and Democrats are facing a political blitzkrieg. They are grappling for the means to handle the assault, as the party of the Left has long thought it had total control of both the narrative and the battles.
Stunned political operatives like Nancy Pelosi don’t recognize President Trump is not interested in guerilla warfare tactics, but has put into effect a broad-based offensive against the very citadels of liberal power and bloated government.
The president is putting into play a classic military maneuver applied to politics: keep going on a total and accelerated offensive no matter what in order to keep your enemy digging foxholes and putting up barriers -- while all the while they actually are being forced to slowly retreat under the onslaught, screaming and holding up protest placards all the way to the back of the line.
Democrats are unused to a total war offensive, as they have relied on relentless guerilla warfare and the long march. They are even more unused to being on the defensive, and are ill-prepared to fight defensively. They are aghast over the Trump tactics being applied against them, are assuming the old weapons once applied so effectively against their political enemies still work.
One is reminded of the French infantry fighting in World War I. "Elan," which was a mystical sense of inevitable victory, was supposed to be enough to win the day. The result was that French soldiers were woefully unprepared for German machine guns. Guns did not take "elan" into account.
In like manner, Democrats are still hauling out old and worn out tropes from the 1960s, weapons that won victories and intimidated the opposition for two generations. But the old tactics are obsolete and increasingly prove to be virtually useless. Millions of Americans have repudiated the orthodox liturgy of the Left, wedded as it is to constant and relentless battles about race, diversity, open borders, and globalism. Millions are also sick and tired of being labeled heretics by radical Democrats who constantly dismiss decent and basically charitable Americans as haters, homophobes, misogynists, and bitter clingers to "guns and religion."

There's no need to look for analogies outside Trump's experience such as making him a latter day Sun Tzu based on his stint at military school.
Just apply what he actually is - a corporate CEO with a job to do.
Think of him as a corporate raider involved in a hostile takeover of a company that was once the industrial leader but has fallen on hard times.
The problems he faces are:
- a management that is more interested in their benefits package than the stockholders
- a series of contracts with other companies that is not in the company's best interest.
- entrenched special interests that want their own area of the company to prosper at the expense of the company as a whole
- Aggressive competition from other companies who are catching up technologically.
- Built in headwinds from an industry association that exists in part to prevent the company from re-attaining primacy in the industry
Just think of how Carl Ichann would deal with these problems and you can see the next few years

Hmmmm. What could have happened in January to improve economic confidence and jobs? Ima stumped. The MSM hasn't offered any suggestions, either
The Labor Department's Bureau of Labor Statistics on Friday released its first look at employment since Donald Trump became president, and although that report does not reflect actual Trump policy changes, it does include the period just before Trump became president and was tweeting about jobs saved.
According to BLS, the labor force participation rate improved in January, increasing two-tenths of a point to 62.9 percent, its best showing in four months.
BLS said 152,081,000 Americans were employed in January, close to last month's record 152,111,000. At the same time, the number of Americans not in the labor force went in the right direction, dropping to 94,366,000, which is 736,000 fewer than last month's record 95,102,000.
In January, the nation's civilian noninstitutionalized population, consisting of all people age 16 or older who were not in the military or an institution, reached 254,082,000. Of those, 159,716,000 participated in the labor force by either holding a job or actively seeking one.
The 159,716,000 who participated in the labor force equaled 62.9 percent of the 254,082,000 civilian noninstitutionalized population.
According to BLS, total nonfarm payroll employment rose 227,000, and the unemployment rate ticked up a tenth of a point to 4.8 percent.

I'd believe it, if the numbers hadn't been cooked for the past eight years.
[BBC] The US Defence Secretary James Mattis has said any use of nuclear weapons by North Korea would be met with an "effective and overwhelming" response.
Mr Mattis spoke in South Korea, where he had been reaffirming US support, before flying to Tokyo.
He also reconfirmed plans to deploy a US missile defence system in South Korea later this year.
North Korea's repeated missile and nuclear tests and aggressive statements continue to alarm and anger the region. The US has a considerable military presence in South Korea and Japan, as part of a post-war defence deal. There are just under 28,500 US troops in the country, for which Seoul pays about $900m (£710m) annually.
President Donald Trump has previously said he wants both South Korea and Japan to pay more towards maintaining that presence.
[CNN] The Senate voted early Friday to advance President Donald Trump's education secretary nominee Betsy DeVos to a final confirmation vote, which is expected Monday. The vote was 52 to 48 along party lines.
Senators convened at the unusual, early hour -- 6:30 a.m. ET -- because of Democratic stalling tactics that reflect their unhappiness with Trump's cabinet picks and the overall confirmation process.
DeVos has come under fire from Democrats and two key Republicans for her positions on public and charter schools, as well as statements made during her confirmation hearing last month.
Despite losing support from Republican Sens. Susan Collins of Maine and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, she is expected to be confirmed Monday with the help of Vice President Mike Pence, who will be in the chamber to break an expected 50-50 tie. Collins and Murkowski, who both have said they intend to vote against DeVos' final conformation, voted to end the debate and advance her confirmation, as expected.
In an impassioned show of opposition, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer implored other senators to "look into their conscience" over the weekend and reconsider their support for DeVos, saying she is "one of the worst nominees that has ever been" brought before the Senate.

This position is probably representative of Collins' constituency, and makes sense if she wants to be re-elected. Not sure about Murkowski - maybe Alaska Paul can comment on whether state politics have shifted leftward to match the rest of the left coast.
[Reuters] U.S. President Donald Trump is poised to impose new sanctions on multiple Iranian entities, seeking to ratchet up pressure on Tehran while crafting a broader strategy to counter what he sees as its destabilizing behavior, people familiar with the matter said on Thursday.
In the first tangible action against Iran since Trump took office on Jan. 20, the administration, on the same day he insisted that "nothing is off the table," prepared to roll out new measures against more than two dozen Iranian targets, the sources said. The announcement is expected as early as Friday, they added.
The new sanctions, which are being taken under existing executive orders covering terrorism and weapons of mass destruction, may mark the opening shot in a more aggressive policy against Iran that Trump promised during the 2016 presidential campaign, the sources, who had knowledge of the administration's plans, said.
But the package, targeting both entities and individuals, was formulated in a way that would not violate the 2015 Iran nuclear deal negotiated between Iran and six world powers including Trump’s predecessor, Barack Obama, they added.
[Daily Caller] Donald Trump is the gift that keeps giving. The week is still in its infancy, but the president has already made Chucky Schumer cry, fired Acting Attorney General Sally Yates within hours of her acting up, and caused the Forgotten Man to go even harder for their president. This Trump accomplished by inadvertently exposing the Democrats as firmly in the camp of Hollywood harridans, tech execs, the immigration lawyers lobby, the global refugee industry; and in the grip of the international human rights octopus.
The Democratic constituency can no longer hide. It’s as though all these ghastly people are wearing the pussy dunce-caps adorned by the Madonna and Ashley Judd protesters.
The first moment of joy came when, flanked by swaddled Muslim women, the sanctimonious Schumer, a politician to his fingertips, choked up because of President Trump’s executive order to "temporarily halt the U.S. refugee program and ban entries from seven Muslim-majority nations for 90 days." The president campaigned on this promise, was elected based upon it, and is now fulfilling it, a novel concept to a shyster like Schumer.
Then, before Sally Yates could use her perch, as a public servant at DOJ, to crusade for a centralized value system--the POTUS fired her, promptly ending Yates’ two-hour insurrection at the Department of Justice.
[Reuters] Japan is putting together a package it says could generate 700,000 U.S. jobs and help create a $450-billion market, to present to U.S. President Donald Trump next week, government sources familiar with the plans said.
The five-part package, to be unveiled when Prime Minister Shinzo Abe visits Trump on Feb. 10 in Washington, envisage investments in infrastructure projects such as high-speed trains and cybersecurity, said the sources, who declined to be identified as they were not authorized to speak to the media.
Investing in overseas infrastructure projects dovetails with a key plank in Abe’s growth strategy, which is to export "high-quality" infrastructure technology.
Japan will invest 17 trillion yen ($150 billion) in public and private funds over 10 years, the sources said. That would include helping develop high-speed railways in the northeastern United States, and the states of Texas and California, and renovating subway and train cars.
The Japanese might as well invest that money in the U.S.: they've been investing in all sorts of public and joint venture projects in Japan the past two decades without noticeable results.
The package also includes cooperation in global infrastructure investment, joint development of robots and artificial intelligence, and cooperation in cybersecurity and space exploration, among others.
[Washington Examiner] When the House Subcommittee on Government Operations held a hearing in April 2015 titled "The Worst Places to Work in the Federal Government," an agency manager at the Department of Homeland Security was called in to testify.
"[DHS] rests as the worst place to work among cabinet agencies," Rep. Mark Meadows, R-N.C., said at the time.
The third largest federal department had just received an abysmal 44 percent score in the annual Federal Employee Viewpoint Survey. Fewer than half of its staff felt that morale, leadership and compensation deserved positive ratings.
But those days are gone, according to DHS employees and one senior administration official who spoke to the Washington Examiner on the condition of anonymity.
After President Trump issued his executive order temporarily barring immigration from seven Muslim-majority countries, multiple reports suggested that DHS officials, along with staffers at other federal agencies, were not consulted prior to the roll-out and were not pleased with what transpired afterwards.
"The policy team at the White House developed the executive order on refugees and visas, and largely avoided the traditional interagency process that would have allowed the Justice Department and homeland security agencies to provide operational guidance," CNN had reported earlier this week.
Then came Tuesday's press conference with DHS Secretary John Kelly, a no-nonsense retired Marine Corps general who said the order "wasn't a surprise" and vowed to execute new and existing immigration laws "humanely and with professionalism."
Kelly's remarks to reporters, and his willingness to enforce laws that the administration believes will protect Americans, "re-energized a lot of us because for so long we've been vilified for doing our jobs, and here was someone finally standing up for us," said one Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent who was not authorized to speak on the record.
ICE is one of 22 agencies incorporated into DHS and likely to play a critical role in administering Trump's immigration agenda.
[AFP] A machete-wielding man who yelled "Allahu Akbar" ("God is greatest") was shot and injured as he attacked security forces at the Louvre museum in Paris on Friday, police said.
One soldier was injured in the assault by the knifeman who was shot five times and is alive despite his serious injuries.
Two backpacks he was carrying did not contain explosives, city police chief Michel Cadot said.
Prime Minister Bernard Cazeneuve called the attack "terrorist in nature" after the incident which led streets around the world-famous museum to be sealed off.
The shooting comes with France on its highest state of alert with thousands of troops patrolling the capital following a string of attacks in the last few years.

Perhaps the French will one day get enough of them and push them all back into Africa. (Old Hansi picture of a German soldier marching out of the Alsace with his loot.)

Night terrors of Jacques! It's confusing:
The Muslims -- so sympa! -- accusing
His race of reaction
Despite their inaction,
And all while he's harmlessly snoozing.

I'm on the road at the moment, so can't access it, but the Daily Mail reported the knifeman is an Egyptian who has been in the country for a year -- if someone would be so kind as to post the link, I'd be grateful.
Perry de Havilland at Samizdata tries to understand why the Left stumbled so badly just when it seemed about to win it all. In 2015 the Left had the media, academe, multilateral institutions firmly in the bag. The European Union seemed forever and US Federal government appeared destined to remain in progressive hands. The words "permanent progressive majority" and the end of the white race were spoken of as accomplished fact.
Then came Brexit and Trump in a single annus horribilis with a suddenness that defied explanation. The progressives went from dominance to defense in an instant. De Havilland has no comprehensive explanation of why the dramatic reversal took place but thinks the first sign of a Leftist stall was Gamergate in 2014, when the Arc of History started to mush and wing over.
#1
A preference cascade.
The people finally caught on that they were not alone.
I think Brexit really launched Trump's turn out with a kind of "Look what they did" response and they identified Hillary with the globalist elite that had just been rejected.
#2
I'd point to the rise of alternative media outlets.
The MSM has always been in the business of telling people what they should think and believe. But as their reach declined, so did their power to influence people.
Combine that with the globalist Left's over-reach especially in relation to immigration, and many people found they no longer believed what they were being told to believe.
#3
As de Havilland put it: "so certain was the Left that they had won the culture war, so confident with the established media under their effective control that ‘truth’ was theirs to declare, that they gave up on any pretence of objectivity. And so they began to maneuver with the assurance and arrogance of an army under an umbrella of complete air(wave) supremacy, a supremacy that suddenly proved to be illusory".

While the first weeks of Donald Trump’s presidency have brought plenty of chaos, some underlying themes are emerging. I think of the economic policy so far -- call it Trumponomics -- as a new approach to the redistribution of wealth, working through jobs and regions rather than income transfers. To be sure, I don’t see any single architect of Trumponomics, not even Trump himself, but even without a master plan, there are some common threads.
It’s easy to underrate Trumponomics, because so often it sounds, frankly, stupid or misinformed. In a wide variety of areas, including health-care reform and the border tax adjustment, experts struggle to describe the plans, much less evaluate them. Still, Trumponomics, though highly flawed, will probably not crash the economy, and might steal a lot of the left’s thunder. I think, the problem here is that academic research in economics took a wrong turn in 20th century and been getting further and further from reality ever since.
#1
I have yet to see anyone evaluate Trump's actions from the perspective of geopolitical security - being able to fight a war without relying on imports.
#2
Good point phil b i had not thought of that angle. I just thought it tremendous jobs are back in style, even if it does push up inflation and living standards don't shift that much, it is still better to have people participating in the economy than sidelined but with cheaper goods.
[Breitbart] It is Black History Month, again. This month is set aside to celebrate the many contributions made by blacks to American culture. But beyond the routine photo-ops and politically correct statements, this is a time to address the often overlooked challenges facing black communities across the country.
At the top of the list of challenges facing black Americans is the dramatic lack of economic opportunity available to black residents in major American cities.
Black unemployment rates are still sky high. In cities including Atlanta, Chicago and Washington, D.C., the unemployment rate among African Americans is 19, 23, and 18 percent, respectively, according to the most‐recently available U.S. Census Bureau data.
These dramatic unemployment rates, which are many multiples of the national average, obscure even worse carnage in specific neighborhoods. In Atlanta’s Castleberry Hill neighborhood, the black unemployment rate is 30 percent; in Chicago’s Canaryville, it’s 40 percent; and in Washington D.C.’s Congress Heights, it’s 28 percent. Nationally, the current black youth unemployment rate is more than double that of whites.
With unemployment comes crime. According to the Major Cities Chiefs Association, violent crime is up significantly in major cities nationwide. A Wall Street Journal survey finds that 16 of the 20 largest police departments reported a homicide increase in 2016. And of the four cities that decreased, three had homicide increases over 50 percent in 2015. Increased crime chases away existing business activity, further reducing job opportunities.
[Breitbart] President Donald Trump met with Harley-Davidson executives on the South Lawn of the White House on Thursday, recognizing the American company for creating jobs in the United States.
Trump was joined by Vice President Mike Pence and Trump’s chief of staff Reince Priebus, a Wisconsin native.
Trump spoke for about 15 minutes with the executives who arrived on Harley Davidson motorcycles. Most of the conversation was not audible to reporters, but it appeared that the executives pointed out the different kindS of motorcycles to the president.
When reporters asked if Trump would ride a motorcycle, he quipped, "Boy, would you like to see me fall off one of these!"
"Harley-Davidson has been an American success story since 1901," Spicer said to reporters at the White House press briefing. Spicer said he would meet with Harley executives and union workers to hear about ways to expand their business.
[CNN] The USS Antietam, a US Navy Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser, damaged its propellers and spilled hydraulic oil into the water after running aground off the coast of Japan.
The incident, which occurred Tuesday while the ship was anchoring in Tokyo Bay near Yokosuka, Japan, did not result in any injuries to US or Japanese personnel, but the discharge of up to 1,100 gallons of hydraulic oil prompted environmental concerns.
"The Navy is cooperating with the Government of Japan and Local Japanese Coast Guard in response to this issue and is exhausting all options to minimize impacts to the environment," according to a statement from Kyoko Sugita, a US Navy spokesperson.
Sadly, tragically, yes, even though it appears the pilot was giving the orders at the time. I was dockside greeting a friend almost thirty years ago when the carrier Eisenhower was inbound to Norfolk after a six month deployment without so much as a band-aid for the crew...and the pilot ran her into an anchored freighter less than a mile from the pier. The skipper was relieved the instant they tied up.

My comment was not intended to disparage the unfortunate Captain - I was merely commenting on the factual reality of what happens when a warship is run aground.
[The National Interest] The window for war between the United States and China will, in all likelihood, last for a long time. Preventing war will require tremendous skill and acumen from diplomats and policymakers. Similarly, the demands of positioning either side for victory will continue to tax diplomatic, military, and technological resources for the foreseeable future. At the moment, however, we shouldn’t forget that China and the United States constitute the heart of one of the most productive economic regions the world has ever seen.
How does the unthinkable happen? As historians continue to contemplate the various historic anniversaries around World War I through next year, the question of unexpected wars looms large. What series of events could lead to war in East Asia, and how would that war play out?
The United States and China are inextricably locked in the Pacific Rim’s system of international trade. Some argue that this makes war impossible, but then while some believed World War I inevitable, but others similarly thought it impossible.
#2
I think Trump recognises the geopolitical risk China represents, and will destabilize their economy before any conflict.
We know that when communist regimes fall they do so quickly. I don't see why China will be different. The likeliest alternate scenario is a protracted civil war with both sides holding nuclear weapons.
#3
If the current Jacksonian revolution fails, definitely. If, however, it succeeds and the current Mandarinate is replaced by leadership of pragmatic people with real world achievements - well Chinese leadership are pretty pragmatic too.
#6
They'd better get going then -- the aging of the population is already having an impact. According to an Atlantic article on the subject, in 2015 China announced it would be reducing its military manpower by 300,000. And
The frightening scope of this decline is best expressed in numbers. China today boasts roughly five workers for every retiree. By 2040, this highly desirable ratio will have collapsed to about 1.6 to 1. From the start of this century to its midway point, the median age in China will go from under 30 to about 46, making China one of the older societies in the world. At the same time, the number of Chinese older than 65 is expected to rise from roughly 100 million in 2005 to more than 329 million in 2050—more than the combined populations of Germany, Japan, France, and Britain.
A final point from the article of interest to us: the writer quotes an academic saying, "he foresees a coming “geriatric peace,” as nations around the world find themselves too burdened to challenge America’s military preeminence."
#7
I think a nuclear armed civil war in China isn't as far fetched as many will think. With the side with the fewest weapons in a use_it_or_lose_it bind.
#9

[ALMASDARNEWS] Syria has strongly denounced The Sick Man of Europe Turkey ...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire.... ’s recent attacks near the flashpoint town of al-Bab, calling on the United Nations ...an organization originally established to war on dictatorships which was promptly infiltrated by dictatorships and is now held in thrall to dictatorships... to assume its responsibilities and put an end to the violation of the Arab country’s illusory sovereignty, PressTV reported.
The Syrian Foreign and Expatriates Ministry made the request in two letters addressed to the UN Secretary General and the president of the Security Council on Thursday, the report continued.
Since November, Turkey has occupied swathes of Syrian territory, using its fight against ISIS and the Kurdish YPG that it deems as a terrorist group, as justification for its illegal incursion.
The letters said that the Turkish occupation threatens international peace and security.
The ministry further accused the government in Ankara of providing military, material and logistic support to terrorist organizations, facilitating the entry of foreign bully boyz into Syria and setting up training camps for bully boyz on Turkish soil.

[Libya Herald] Following festivities that resulted in five people being killed in Gasr Ben Gashir yesterday, three who injured in the fighting are reported to have been murdered today while being treated in a local hospital.
Local gunnies are said to have stormed the al-Afia medical centre and shot the three in what is being seen as an act of Dire Revenge.
The three were from the Marghani family and related to local militia commander Salah Marghani. He is originally from Tarhouna, 40 kilometres from Gasr Ben Gashir.
Reports yesterday said the original festivities were due to attempts by Tarhuna traders, backed by Marghini militia, to assert control over the central vegetable market in Gasr Ben Gashir. Local merchants and their supporters resident. Known as Suq al-Ahad (Sunday market), it reputedly provides Tripoli ...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn... , 25 kilometres to the north, with some 50 percent of its vegetables.
As a wealthy institution, it is a prize target for money-hungry militias and local traders in the town had recently voiced their anger at attempts by Tarhouna traders supported by the Marghanis to control business there.
Following a meeting with local elders and security forces, schools in Gasr Ben Gashir have been closed in protest at the armed militias operating in the town, and roads in and out were reported blocked.

I confess I'm a Keurig kind of guy -- one at home and one in the office. My taste buds aren't the best so the usual McDuck or Meijer or whatever medium blend is fine. Love the convenience; if only I could mount a five gallon water jug onto the thing to keep it fed.

Traveling through west Texas one fine morning, all I could find was truck stop coffee, which they must make by combining Texas dirt with diesel fuel. I got so desperate I stopped on the shoulder of the highway, set up my camp stove & brewed a batch of my own stuff on the roadside. Most satisfying cup I ever had. It got me all the way to Albuquerque.

I roast my own using green (un-roasted) beans i.e. not Green Giant ;)
I get them from Sweet Maria's and the price works out to less than store bought..and much less than Keurig although, like Dr. Steve, I have one for convenience.
I prefer the Indonesian Peabury done to what's called a Medium City Roast. Do it right and it's heaven...do it too long and burn it...you get Charbucks.
My roaster will do a pound at a time and in the Technivorm Moccamaster coffee maker it's just nectar of the gods.

Agree with Warthog. The Indonesian Peabury is nice but I like to vary it. I buy the 8 lb assortment, some Ethiopian, some Tanzanian, some Peruvian, some Mexican, some Brazilian and some Honduran then roast 1/3 lb at a time - a different 1/3 every day.

I'm lazy: Keurig with Costco Pacific Bold or Donut House. But I also start my morning first thing with a Zero Cal Monster, so you might wanna disregard all my advice

[WASHINGTONEXAMINER] The Senate passed a resolution repealing regulations on the coal industry that were issued issued by the B.O. regime in its eleventh hour.
The resolution passed, 54-45, one day after the House approved its own resolution of disapproval. The measure now will be sent to President Trump, who is expected to sign it. The resolution helps to fulfill part of Trump's pledge to help coal miners get out from under the weight of increased regulation on their industry.
In killing the Environmental Protection Agency's last-minute Stream Protection Rule, the Republican leadership called it a rushed regulation that blindsided states with unnecessary and burdensome rules for coal mining.
Most Democrats opposed the resolution as a step backward for the environment, with Sen. Maria Cantwell of Washington, the top Democrat on the Energy and Natural Resources Committee, leading the charge during the debate Thursday morning.

[FOX13NEWS] Tampa police have made a second arrest in the murder of a Pasco man who was killed right in front of his teenage son during a Craigslist transaction Wednesday.
Detectives first incarcerated Drop the rod and step away witcher hands up! Ramontrae Williams, 16, Wednesday evening and charged him with first-degree murder and robbery. They said they found the stolen dirtbike near his home.
But the other suspect was still on the lam.
Second teen arrested in Craigslist murder
Detectives soon identified 17-year-old Dontae Johnson as the second suspect. Late Wednesday night, Johnson was taken into custody. James Beck had planned to meet Williams and Johnson after they expressed interest in a dirtbike his son had listed for sale on Craigslist.
But when Beck and his 15-year-old son met the two teens, he quickly realized that they actually intended to rob him. Police say as Beck was attempting to leave, Johnson shot him. Meanwhile, ...back at the palazzo, Count Guido stepped from behind the suit of armor, rapier in hand. Ciccolini snarled and reached for his own weapon... Williams stole the dirt bike.
Neighbors heard the gunshots and helped Beck's 15-year-old son Stuart try to save his father, but there was nothing they could do. Beck died of his injuries.

That explains the combination of violent ideation and idiocy. Do these people not remember who a vast majority of the military voted for? Or is their bubble so opaque that nothing of reality gets in?
These people are mentally ill, and Trump is revealing their diseased minds.

So Hollywood and people who hate the military* want the military to overthrow the US govt and they think that will work out well for them? I don't know where to begin.
[ALMASDARNEWS] Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems.... (ISIS) holy warriors showed off their new military hardware in east Aleppo yesterday, as they attacked the Syrian Arab Army with recently captured Turkish armored vehicles.
The terrorist group’s official media, al-’Amaq, posted footage, yesterday, of their forces using Turkish Kobra vehicles to attack the Syrian Arab Army south of al-Bab.
Using Turkish armored vehicles, the Islamic State recaptured the village of Rasm Surhan after launching a counter-offensive against the Syrian Arab Army.
These armored vehicles were captured by the Islamic State forces during the Turkish Army’s failed offensives east of al-Bab.
A senior officer from the Syrian Arab Army told al-Masdar last week that they believe the Turkish Army purposely leaves their equipment in east al-Bab so that the Islamic State can reuse it against the government forces later.

[ALMASDARNEWS] According to a statement released by the pro-ISIS faction in Deraa, Jaish Khaled bin al-Waleed, 32 rebel snuffies were killed today morning in an ambush by ISIS forces.

Saudi Arabia's King Salman, in a telephone call on Sunday with U.S. President Donald Trump, agreed to support safe zones in Syria and Yemen, a White House statement said.
Trump, during his presidential campaign last year, had called for Gulf states to pay for establishing safe zones to protect Syrian refugees.
A statement after the phone call said the two leaders agreed on the importance of strengthening joint efforts to fight the spread of Islamic State militants.
"The president requested, and the King agreed, to support safe zones in Syria and Yemen, as well as supporting other ideas to help the many refugees who are displaced by the ongoing conflicts," the statement said.
The Saudi Press Agency, in an initial readout of the call, made no specific mention of safe zones, but said the two leaders had affirmed the "depth and durability of the strategic relationship" between the two countries.
The agency later said "the custodian of the Two Holy Mosques had confirmed his support and backing for setting up safe zones in Syria", but did not mention Yemen, where a Saudi alliance is fighting against the Iran-aligned Houthi group.
A senior Saudi source told Reuters the two leaders spoke for more than an hour by telephone and agreed to step up counter-terrorism and military cooperation and enhance economic cooperation.
But the source had no word on whether the two leaders discussed Trump's order to put a four-month hold on allowing refugees into the United States and temporarily ban travelers from Syria and six other Muslim-majority countries.
The source said Saudi Arabia would enhance its participation in the U.S.-led coalition fighting to oust Islamic State from its strongholds in Iraq and Syria.
The White House statement said the two leaders also agreed on the need to address "Iran's destabilizing regional activities." SPA confirmed the report but made no specific mention of Iran.
Both countries share views about Iranian policies in the region, the Saudi source said, suggesting Trump agreed with Riyadh's suspicion of what it sees as Tehran's growing influence in the Arab world. Iran denies it meddles in Arab countries.
The White House statement said the two also discussed what it called an invitation from the king for Trump "to lead a Middle East effort to defeat terrorism and to help build a new future, economically and socially," for Saudi Arabia and the region.
The two also discussed the Muslim Brotherhood, the senior Saudi source said, adding in a reference to the late al Qaeda leader, "it was mentioned that Osama bin Laden was recruited at an early stage" by the organization.

Local officials are saying that the Taliban group launched a coordinated attack on Sangin district which was repulsed by the Afghan cops.
The officials further added at least 40 holy warriors were also maimed during the festivities with the Afghan cops.
The provincial government media office in a statement said the Afghan forces were receiving close air support in their fight against the Taliban holy warriors.
The statement further added that the attack has been fully repulsed and the Afghan forces continue to their clearance operation.
The Taliban leaders killed during the festivities have been identified as Mullah Bashir, Mullah Jahhid, and Mullah Sher Agha.

I do appreciate the Floyd reference added at the end. That's exactly what popped into my mind when I saw her name.
[YAHOO] French presidential candidate Francois Fillon attempted to fight back on Thursday as pressure mounted on him to quit the race with some politicians from his own side urging him to drop his scandal-tainted bid to save the conservatives from defeat.
With opinion polls showing the conservatives that their candidate may be fatally damaged, some senior members of The Republicans urged him to pull out now to give the party time to find a replacement who can save them from defeat.
Fillon, 62, denied wrongdoing after Le Canard Enchaine newspaper reported the former prime minister had paid his wife hundreds of thousands of euros for work she may not have done.
Falling poll ratings since then will benefit far right leader Marine Le Pen and centrist Emmanuel Macron, a former investment banker running as an independent.
A daily IFOP poll of voting intentions for the April 23 first round showed Fillon down one percentage point since Wednesday to be level with Macron. Either candidate would comfortably beat Le Pen in the May 7 runoff, the poll suggests.
"I think our candidate must stop," Alain Houpert, a senator close to Fillon's former rival for the conservative ticket, Nicolas Sarkozy ...23rd President of the French Republic. Sarkozy is married to singer-songwriter Carla Bruni, who has a really nice birthday suit... , told Public Senat television on Wednesday.
La Belle France 2 television broadcast on Thursday extracts of a 2007 interview of Fillon's Welsh-born wife Penelope telling Britannia's Daily Telegraph that if she had not had her last child she would have looked for work.
She added that beyond helping her husband during campaigns, she had done nothing more.
"I have never been actually his assistant or anything like that. I don't deal with his communication," she said.

Anbar (IraqiNews.com) An official source in Anbar Province revealed that the Islamic State group killed a family, while trying to escape from the city of Qaim, west of the province, Alsumaria News reported on Thursday.
The source said, “A family of three tried to escape, using their vehicle, from the city of Qaim (350 km west of Ramadi) to the areas held by security forces in Anbar.”
“The extremist group monitored the vehicle, then chased it and killed the whole family,” the source added on condition of anonymity.
The Islamic State group captured the city of Qaim three years ago, and is still besieging thousands of civilians inside the city, as well as using them as human shields.
Nineveh (IraqiNews.com) The self-proclaimed Islamic State group amputated the hands of two children, in western Mosul, for refusing to carry out execution sentence on two civilians, a source told Alsumaria News on Thursday.
The source said, “The Islamic State’s leaders issued orders to train a group of children on fighting in the group’s camps in Nables neighborhood, in the western side of Nineveh.”
“Meanwhile, members of the Islamic State terrorist group amputated the hands of two children, for refusing to carry out the execution sentence on two civilians in front of their families,” the source explained.
“The age of the abused children ranges between 10 and 12 years old,” the source further added.
Noteworthy, Mosul was captured by the Islamic State in June 10, 2014, while security forces are preparing to liberate the western side of the city, after recapturing the eastern side.

[ALMASDARNEWS] According to sources in Syria, the Syrian Army recently told Rooters that they are prepared to clash with The Sick Man of Europe Turkey ...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire.... -backed FSA fighters near al-Bab, if necessary.
Al-Bab is a town in Aleppo province, and is situated 30km south of the Syria-Turkey border. The town is currently held by ISIS terrorists, but a number of forces, including the Syrian Army, are competing to liberate it.
Turkey has provided direct military assistance to rebels in Northern Syria, and they have regularly attacked Kurdish forces in Syria, as Erdogan has deemed their quasi-state in Northern Syria a threat to Turkey.
Turkey has lost a significant amount of troops and armaments as a result of its intervention in Syria, and ISIS is using captured equipment against Turkish forces.

[The Hill] President Trump has selected Gina Haspel to be the deputy director of the CIA, making her second in command behind Mike Pompeo.
Haspel is the second woman to ever hold the position, which does not require Senate confirmation.
A 30-year veteran of the agency, Haspel was the first woman to lead the CIA's clandestine service, which oversees U.S. spying worldwide. She has held numerous senior leadership positions and served as being chief of station in multiple overseas assignments.
Her selection drew praise from former senior intelligence officials.
"[Haspel] has the broad-gauged experience from both foreign and domestic assignments to serve as the right-arm for Director [Mike] Pompeo," former National Intelligence Director James Clapper said in a statement.
"She is widely respected throughout the agency and she will be welcomed in the new job by both current and former employees," said Mike Morrell, a former deputy director and former acting director.
"I worked closely with Haspel from 2006 until my retirement from the Agency in 2013. During that time, I found her to be simply exceptional. She gets things done in a quiet, yet effective way, and she is calm under fire."
Haspel’s career has not been free of controversy, however.

[Men's Journal] Immediately following the terrorist attacks of September 11th 2001, less than a hundred U.S. Special Forces flew to Afghanistan to wage a significant but secret war with the Taliban. The new Sundance documentary Legion of Brothers, from director Greg Barker centers on this little-known fight.
The film focuses on two 12-man teams of Green Berets, each tasked with a different mission to defeat the Taliban. Captain Mark Nutsch’s Team 595 arrived first in October 2001 and partnered with the anti-Taliban military to capture cities in the north -- something they did primarily on horseback. In November 2001, Captain Jason Amerine’s Team 574 arrived in Afghanistan, and eventually attacked Al Qaeda and Taliban forces in the south of the country.

Heavy clashes in the far west Tripoli district of Janzour near Bridge 17 broke out tonight between Wirshefana militias and the Fursan Janzour brigade, with some sources suggesting up five people have been killed and 15 wounded.
The fighting over control of the bridge, currently held by the Fursan Janzur (“Janzour Knights”), is said to have started after an individua, allegedly a Wirshefani, was caught trying to steal a vehicle close to the bridge.
The Janzour Knights supposedly support the Presidency Council although they were formerly part of the former Libya Dawn alliance, while the Wirshefana forces back Khalifa Hafter. The latter want to take over the bridge and the surrounding area. They also regard Janzour as part of “their” area, although many residents are originally from the Jebel Nafusa.
Meanwhile in what a loosely related development in Tripoli’s upmarket Hay Andalus district, just west of the city centre, security vehicles have now been seen carrying stickers denoting them to be under the authority of the so-called National Salvation Government of Khalifa Ghwell.
The move is linked to the current rivalry between the so-called Hay Andalus Defence Operations Room which is part of the Mobile Forces militia, itself mainly based in Janzour, and the Rada (“Deterrence”) force which backs the Presidency Council.
Tensions have been rising in Hay Andalus over the past fortnight following the arrest by Rada of the operations room’s leader, Adel Sifau (also known as Shita). He is accused of drug dealing, kidnapping and numerous other crimes. A week ago, locals closed roads, demanding the removal of the operations room.
They also claimed that operations room militiamen and the Mobile Forces which were previously part of Libya Dawn alliance were now again backing Ghwell.
“The mobile forces are with the National Salvation Government and Ghwell because they are largely Amazigh and need allies against Rada,” said one local comentator. “They want the help of Salah Badi [a major ally of Ghwell] and his Samoud Front,” he added.

[THEHILL] Sen. John Maverick McCain ... the Senator-for-Life from Arizona, former presidential candidate and even more former foot soldier in the Reagan Revolution. As an ordinary citizen he greased the infamous hookers peeing on the Obamabed in Moscow dossier in an attempt to smear President Trump... (R-Ariz.) said Thursday that he spoke to the Australian ambassador to express support for the nations' relationship after a heated call from President Trump.
"I called Australia’s Ambassador to the United States this morning to express my unwavering support for the U.S.-Australia alliance," McCain, who's frequently criticized Trump, said in a statement.
McCain added that he asked Joe Hockey, the Australian ambassador to the U.S., to "convey to the people of Australia" that Americans value their alliance, "honor the sacrifice of the Australians who have served and are serving by our side, and remain committed to the safer, freer, and better world that Australia does far more than its fair share to protect and promote."

McShame is stepping on his crank. Here is what Prime Minister Turnbull said about the call: An indignant Mr Turnbull told 2GB’s Ben Fordham: ‘As far as the call is concerned, I’m very disappointed, the report the president hung up is not correct, the call ended courteously.’ Mr Turnbull on Monday described the call as constructive, saying the pair acknowledged the already strong and deep relationship between the US and Australia and committed to making it stronger.
'That's my job. My job is to defend the national interest of Australia and defend the interests of Australians,' he told reporters in Melbourne on Thursday.
'You may wish to speculate about policies and politics in Washington, that's not my role. My job is today and everyday to stand up for Australia and that's what I do. '
He also thanked the president for 'committing' to honour the refugee agreement.

Turnbull despises Trump, and made this deal with Obama five days after Trump won, to embarrass him as much as to fix his own problem. Yes, he is that arrogant, and that ignorant, to think he could prevail here. Trump did Australia a big favor here.

All these people who had all these sweet deals with Obama should have known better and it's their problem if they didn't. McCain is an old fool who should have retired a few decades ago. The refugees should be returned to their countries of origin.

All of them are free to leave whenever the like. A few have, but the rest are hanging on in order to get into a first world country.
Trump has been much too generous to Turnbull and should can the deal. Turnbull has proved himself as slimey as Obama.

The Media in the US is scum of the earth just like the democrat party is the scum on the earth. They are one and the same and they ALL lie about everything.
Following the lying media for intel, idiot McCain tunes in to dis-credit the President.
[YAHOO] A sunny day at the beach took a bizarre twist in Argentina ...a country located on the other side of the Deep South. It is covered with Pampers and inhabited by Grouchos, who dance the Tangle. They used to have some islands called the Malvinas located where the Falklands are now. They're not supposed to cry for Evita... when some 20 coppers arrived to expel three topless women -- now the center of a national protest movement.
With summer in full swing in the southern hemisphere, the three Argentines had shed their tops to sunbathe last weekend at the beach in Necochea, a resort town 500 kilometers (300 miles) south of Buenos Aires.
But local police in shorts and fluorescent vests arrived to tell them they were breaking public decency laws.
The women argued they were doing nothing wrong -- leading to an escalating row that drew in police reinforcements and a giant crowd of onlookers, some yelling at the women to get off the beach, others shouting their support.
Eventually, the women decided to leave what one of them called the "fascist beach."
A video of the standoff has now gone viral online -- stoking outrage among women's rights activists in a country known for machismo and high levels of violence against women.
Activists have called a topless women's march in support of the three women for Tuesday in the capital. They are calling the protest the "tetazo," which roughly translates as "breast smack."
A judge meanwhile dismissed the charges against the three women brought by a male beachgoer.
"A woman baring her breasts does not constitute an act that harms others, and is therefore outside the authority of the courts," small-time Mister Big court judge Mario Juliano ruled Wednesday.
He called on the police to be more "prudent."

They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems.... fighters continue in East Qalamoun area with the terror organization taking over more territories and posing a real threat on Al Seen airbase.
The 3-day wide-scale offensive launched by ISIS has yielded in considerable gains. The group is now in full control of several sites to the northwest of the airbase including al-Safa checkpoint, Battalion 559, Chemistry Battaion, in addition to several hilltops overlooking the strategic Triangle checkpoint.
Another site was lost; the Abandoned Battalion located in the eastern outskirts of the airbase following a heavy attack by the jihadi bully boys. The government troops also withdrew from and advanced defense line ‐ recaptured last Saturday ‐ in the north of the airport.
A source told AMN that workers at the Cement Factory were evacuated for fear of a potential ISIS attack on the facility.

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) A police source revealed that two civilians were wounded in an improvised explosive device explosion near a popular market, south of Baghdad, Alsumaria News reported on Thursday.
The source said, “An improvised explosive device, planted near a popular market in Mahmudiyah area, south of Baghdad, exploded today, wounding two civilians.”
“Security forces arrived in the area of incident, and transferred the wounded to a nearby hospital,” the source added on condition of anonymity.
Earlier today, Baghdad Operations Command also arrested a suspect for stealing a vehicle in al-Saidiyah area, southwest of Baghdad.
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) An official source declared that a policeman was killed, while three others were wounded in a bomb blast, in southern Baghdad, Alsumaria News reported on Thursday.
The source said, “An improvised explosive device, emplaced on the roadside in Hur Rajab area in southern Baghdad exploded, while a police patrol was passing in the area, killing a policeman and wounding three others.”
“Security forces cordoned off the area of incident, while ambulances transferred the wounded to a nearby hospital and the body to the forensic medicine department, the source further added.

[Libya Herald] What had seemed to be the end game for the bully boyz in Benghazi’s Ganfouda district a week ago has turned out to be a bloody siege of a group of apartment blocks which today cost the Libyan National Army five more dead and 15 maimed.
An unknown number of bully boyz is continuing to resist the LNA, whose casualties today came from the Saiqa Special Forces ...Libya's elite army unit, insofar as they have one, formed from a mixture of paratroopers and commandos. The group emerged from a militia with the same name in 2010. It now numbers a few thousand and reports to the Ministry of Defence. It deployed in Benghazi in an attempt to control the carnage. As a result, it has been attacked and several of its officers murdered. The force is popular in Benghazi for its stance against Ansar al-Sharia group... An airforce jet scored what seemed to be a direct hit on the apartments sending up a huge plume of smoke and dust. But resistance does not appear to have slackened. One LNA source said that earlier in the day a group of bully boyz had tried to break through the army’s lines but had been beaten back.
The inability of the LNA to justify its claim of total victory a week ago is not only embarrassing but appears to be holding up moves to assault the remaining terrorist positions in the city’s downtown Sabri and Suq al-Hout districts. A number of units had been pulled out of Ganfouda and redeployed on the edge of these two remaining bully boy enclaves.
Soldiers have also today uncovered a mass grave in Ganfouda which contains an unknown number of bodies. Forensic experts are now examining the corpses, some of which appear to be quite recent. It is unclear if the dead are terrorists, civilians or captured members of the LNA.

[Rappler] New People's Army militants abducted two Philippine soldiers in Sultan Kudarat province on Thursday morning.
Military spokesperson Rhyan Batchar said that the two soldiers were abducted "by armed men suspected to be members of the New People's Army" in Barangay Dela Paz in Columbio town. He confirmed the suspects to be communist insurgents in a later statement.
Batchar said were riding a motorbike and were unarmed when a group of armed men threw stones at them prompting them to stop. He said, "The 10th Infantry Division condemns the NPA for kidnapping two enlisted men of 39th Infantry Battalion . . . The NPA is showing complete disregard of its own earlier pronouncement that its unilateral ceasefire is in effect until February 10, by continuously committing atrocities against soldiers and civilians."
The incident happened a day after the NPA announced that it would terminate its ceasefire with the government on February 10. On January 29 or days before the NPA's announcement, communist rebels abducted a soldier, Private First Class Erwin Salan, as he led a forest clean-up drive in Alegria, Surigao del Norte.
UC Berkeley last year received $370 million in funding from the federal government, underlining the seriousness of President Trump’s threat to withdraw funding following leftist riots at the college yesterday.
The riots, which were a successful effort to prevent Breitbart Senior Editor MILO from speaking at the university, were condemned by President Donald Trump, who earlier threatened to take away the university’s federal funding.
"If U.C Berkeley does not allow free speech and practices violence on innocent people with a different point of view ‐ NO FEDERAL FUNDS?," Trump wrote. If you want to contact the White House to express your thoughts: [LINK]

Against the wishes of some faculty and students alike Berkley very publicly announced they would allow the event to proceed. In anticipation of a protest University administration called in personel from other campuses, coordinated with local LE, and beefed up security overall. They also provided a separate area for protesters away from the event.
Two questions; 1. How did the campus "not allow free speech"? 2. How does the threat of witholding federal funds prevent future riots?

Good thing, too. All of UC Berkeley might have gone up in flames. Pity about the Starbucks. Such a progressive company. And that young lady who got pepper-sprayed. Maybe she should've worn something a bit less provocative, like a "pussy hat".
Oh, and the speech being cancelled. But that was the point, wasn't it, dearie?

It's my understanding that about 150 professional agitators were brought in and did most of the damage. If so, the police should have just nabbed these communists/anarchists and it would all have evaporated. But they were told to stand down, of course. I kinda wonder if Soros or some other knowing liberal may have had a hand in that decision somehow.
[ALMASDARNEWS] 500 soldiers from the forces of Libyan commander Khalifa Haftar ... served in the Libyan army under Muammar Qadaffy, and took part in the coup that brought Qadaffy to power in 1969. He became a prisoner of war in Chad in 1987. While held prisoner, he and his fellow officers formed a group hoping to overthrow Qadaffy. He was released around 1990 in a deal with the United States government and spent nearly two decades in the United States, gaining US citizenship. In 1993, while living in the United States, he was convicted in absentia of crimes against the Jamahiriya and sentenced to death. Haftar held a senior position in the anti-Qadaffy forces in the 2011 Libyan Civil War. In 2014 he was commander of the Libyan Army when the General National Congress (GNC) refused to give up power in accordance with its term of office. Haftar launched a campaign against the GNC and its Islamic fundamentalist allies. His campaign allowed elections to take place to replace the GNC, but then developed into a civil war. Guess you can't win them all... will been sent to Russia for treatment.
Rooters has reported that the first 70 have already arrived in Russia.
This is the first obvious cooperation between Moscow and an gang in Libya, an official and a military source said.
Opponents of Haftar, head of the self-styled Libyan National Army (LNA) based in the east of the country, worry that his engagement with Russia is an attempt to challenge the fragile U.N.-supported government in Tripoli ...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn... , which he has shunned, Rooters reported.
The fighters will be transfered from Benina airport in Benghazi to Egypt, before arriving in Russia.
Haftar, whose forces have been fighting against an alliance of Islamist turbans and former rebels in Benghazi for two years, enjoys close ties to Egypt and the United Arab Emirates. He has cultivated his friendship with Russia, visiting Moscow twice last year to ask for military aid, the Rooters report continued.

[DAWN] The government has accused the previous government of the Pakistain Peoples Party (PPP) of not taking required actions under the 2008 United Nations ...a formerly good idea gone bad... resolution designating Hafiz Saeed ...founder of Lashkar-e-Taiba and its false-mustache offshoot Jamaat-ud-Dawa. The United Nations declared the JuD a terrorist organization in 2008 and Hafiz Saeed a terrorist as its leader. Hafiz, JuD and LeT are wholly-owned subsidiaries of the Pak intel apparatus, so that amounted to squat... ’s organization as a terrorist outfit.
"As a matter of record, the actions taken by the government of Pakistain have been carried out as per obligations vis-à-vis listing of Jamaat-ud-Dawa ...the front organization of Lashkar-e-Taiba... under UN Security Council Resolution 1267 in December 2008," says an unnamed spokesperson for the Ministry of Interior in a statement here on Wednesday which the ministry apparently released in reaction to a statement of India’s Ministry of External Affairs regarding the detention of JuD chief Hafiz Muhammad Saeed ...who would be wearing a canvas jacket with very long sleeves anyplace but Pakistain... .
"Various actions that needed to be taken under the relevant resolution, i.e. arms embargo, travel ban and asset freeze, were not carried out for some reasons by the previous governments," the spokesperson said without naming the PPP.
The spokesperson said that Pakistain did not need any certification or endorsement from India over the recent actions it had taken in relation to Hafiz Saeed.
India had constantly been using Hafiz Saeed’s political activities as a tool to malign Pakistain, the statement said. "The international community should take note and understand that Pakistain is a democratic society where judiciary takes free, independent and transparent decisions," it said.
"If indeed, India is serious about its allegations, it should come up with concrete evidence against Hafiz Mohammad Saeed which is sustainable in court of law in Pakistain or for that matter anywhere in the world," the spokesperson said, adding: "Mere casting aspersions and levelling allegations without any corroborating evidence would not help the cause of peace in the region."

[UPI] Wild invasive pigs are wreaking havoc on North American ecosystems, a new report warns.
"Feral swine cause major damage to property, agriculture (crops and livestock), native species and ecosystems, and cultural and historic resources," Gail Keirn, a public affairs specialist with the National Wildlife Research Center, told PLOS ONE.
The National Wildlife Research Center, NWRC, is the research arm of the Wildlife Services program, part of the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, a USDA agency.
"This invasive species also threatens the health of people, wildlife, pets, and other domestic animals," Keirn said. "As feral swine populations continue to expand across the country, these damages, costs, and risks will only keep rising."

[Daily Excelsior] A day after Pakistain asked India to provide "concrete evidence" against JuD chief Hafiz Saeed ...founder of Lashkar-e-Taiba and its false-mustache offshoot Jamaat-ud-Dawa. The United Nations declared the JuD a terrorist organization in 2008 and Hafiz Saeed a terrorist as its leader. Hafiz, JuD and LeT are wholly-owned subsidiaries of the Pak intel apparatus, so that amounted to squat... , Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh today said the country has been providing evidence at different levels and cautioned the longer Pakistain stays in "denial mode" the more it risks its own security.
Asserting that Pakistain has emerged as the "epicenter of terrorism" in the entire region, particularly in the Indian sub-continent, Dr Singh said, the neighbouring country is also the "hub of gross human rights ...which are often intentionally defined so widely as to be meaningless... violations".
"The entire world now acknowledges and realises that, from time to time, India has been providing a series of evidence at different levels. And, therefore, there is hardly any evidence required.
"The longer Pakistain prefers to stay in denial mode, they must realise, the powers that be in Islamabad, the more they are going to risk their own security," Singh told news hounds outside Parliament.
Pakistain had yesterday asked India to provide "concrete evidence" against JuD chief Hafiz Saeed if it was "serious" about its allegations against him.
Before that, India had said that only a credible crackdown on the Mumbai terror attack criminal mastermind would be proof of Islamabad’s sincerity.
Saeed and four other Jamaat-ud Dawa leaders ‐ Abdullah Ubaid, Zafar Iqbal, Abdur Rehman Abid and Qazi Kashif Niaz ‐ were put under house arrest after an order was issued by Punjab 1.) Little Orphan Annie's bodyguard
2.) A province of Pakistain ruled by one of the Sharif brothers
3.) A province of India. It is majority (60 percent) Sikh and Hindoo (37 percent), which means it has relatively few Moslem riots.... Province’s Interior Ministry in pursuance to a directive from the Federal Interior Ministry on January 27.
On the H1B Visa issue, Dr Singh said, the External Affairs Ministry will look into it and take appropriate measures.
"It won’t be right for me to give a final response to that without being privy to exact details. Nevertheless, I am sure the Government and the External Affairs Ministry will take cognisance and justice will be done," he said.
Meanwhile, ...back at the barn, Bossy had come up with a new idea, one that didn't involve kerosene... India today dismissed Pakistain’s demand for "concrete evidence" against JuD chief Hafiz Saeed in the 26/11 case, saying the required proof is already available in that country as the entire conspiracy was hatched there and all it needs to find is "requisite" political will to take action.
External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Vikas Swarup also said India would not go by the claims or statements made by Pakistain about the steps taken to check terrorism but by what happens on the ground.
"Entire conspiracy for the Mumbai attack was hatched in Pakistain. All the holy warriors came from Pakistain. All the planning was done in Pakistain. All the support was rendered by Pakistain. So, all the evidence to implicate the criminal mastermind of the Mumbai terror attack is already available in Pakistain.
"In fact, Hafiz Saeed has himself confessed to criminal masterminding multiple holy warriors attacks directed at India. So the concrete evidence that Pakistain establishment is looking for is already available in Pakistain. All they need to find is requisite political will," Swarup said.
He was asked about the statement of a Pakistain Interior Ministry Spokesperson that "If indeed India is serious about its allegations, it should come up with concrete evidence against Hafiz Saeed which is sustainable in court of law in Pakistain or for that matter anywhere in the world" and that mere casting aspersions and levelling allegations without any corroborating evidence would not help.
On the recent release of Chandu Babulal Chavan and if this indicated softening of Pakistain’s stand that could lead to resumption of bilateral dialogue, Swarup said India welcomes the steps taken by Pakistain on humanitarian matters.
"We have consistently maintained that a bilateral dialogue with Pakistain is only possible in an atmosphere free of terror and violence. Any credible steps in that direction will certainly be welcomed by India," he said.
He added, "We will not go by their (Pakistain’s) claims and statements. We will go by what we will see on the ground. At the end of the day, that is what matters."
Swarup was also asked if the meeting of SAARC officials which is currently underway in Kathmandu has paved the way for the SAARC Summit, to which he said one cannot arrive at such a conclusion.
"India is committed to the ideals and objectives of SAARC. Our objection was to the holding of the SAARC Summit in Islamabad at a time when one particular country is opposed to regional connectivity initiatives, is promoting cross-border terrorism and is interfering in domestic affairs of other countries.
"Not only India, other SAARC countries also joined in saying that this time was not conducive to host the Summit in Islamabad," Swarup said.
A majority of SAARC countries including India had pulled out of the 19th SAARC summit, scheduled to be held in Islamabad last November, maintaining that the atmosphere was conducive for holding of the summit in view of continuous cross-border terrorism by Pakistain.

[ALMASDARNEWS] A Syrian military source told Al-Masdar News that the Islamic State terrorist organization set ablaze the last wells at the Hayyan Gas Fields in order to make the site no longer useful for the government.
This news comes just hours after the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and Hezbollah liberated the strategic Jihar Crossroad, putting them at the outskirts of the Hayyan Gas Fields.
Hayyan Gas Fields were once the largest source of gas to millions of Syrians; its loss in December proved incredibly costly for the Syrian government, as they were already dealing with a water crisis in Damascus.
ISIS has been rapidly withdrawing from several sites in the western countryside of Palmyra, as the Syrian Arab Army and their allies from Hezbollah push further east in order to liberate the gas fields under the terrorist group’s control.

[DAWN] Pakistain Rangers, Sindh, claimed to have killed notorious Lyari ...one of the eighteen constituent towns of the city of Karachi. It is the smallest town by area in the city but also the most densely populated. Lyari has few schools, substandard hospitals, a poor water system, limited infrastructure, and broken roads. It is a stronghold of ruling Pakistan Peoples Party. Ubiquitous gang activity and a thriving narcotics industry make Lyari one of the most disturbed places in Karachi, which is really saying a lot.... gang war commander Noor Muhammad alias Baba Ladla in a shootout early Thursday in Bloody Karachi ...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous... 's Lyari neighbourhood.
Two of Baba Ladla's close associates -- Sikandar alias Sikko and Mohammad Yaseen alias Mama -- were also killed in the encounter.
The "most wanted" suspects were involved in numerous terrorist incidents and heinous crimes, a Rangers blurb said.
Acting on a tip-off about the presence of Ladla, the Rangers started an operation in Lyari's Phool Patti Lane area. Upon seeing them, the gangsters opened fire and lobbed hand grenades at the paramilitary personnel.
After an exchange of fire that lasted about 35 minutes, Baba Ladla and his two accomplices were killed in the encounter.
One Kalashnikov, a 9mm pistol, a 9mm mauser and a hand grenade were also recovered from their possession, a police statement said.
"The killing of Baba Ladla group [members] is a lesson for all those youngsters, who inspired by leaders like Baba Ladla are backing or linked to crimes, that they cannot escape the grasp of law," the Rangers statement said.
Baba Ladla was once a close aide of proscribed Peoples Amn Committee ... Peoples' Peace Committee is a group of brown turbans tied to the Pakn People's Party and based in Blood-soaked Karachi. It was founded by an infamous gangster, Rehman Dakait in 2008. It is accused of being involved in organized crime and gang wars. After Rehman departed this vale of tears in 2009, leadership of the group was taken over by Uzair Baloch, who is probably associated with the Tataglias or the Barzini clan. The Amn Committee was banned in Pakistain in 2011, which means precisely squat.... (PAC) leader Uzair Baloch, who was tossed in the calaboose You have the right to remain silent... in January last year, but later turned his rival.
The Sindh government had placed a head money of Rs3 million on Baba Ladla in 2012.

In the week of Groundhog Day it seemed entirely appropriate: Greek farmers, many on tractors, have once again been blockading roads and border posts amid mounting signs that the country long at the centre of Europe’s debt woes is – once again – teetering towards crisis.
Brilliant. Shut the economy down. That'll get the economy rolling again.
Protesting farmers have been a regular feature of the social unrest that has sporadically gripped Greece. It is now more than seven years since the Greek financial crisis erupted and the debt drama has often had a deja vu quality about it.
Eclipsed last year by the UK’s vote to exit the EU, and Donald Trump’s equally unlikely US electoral victory, the nation’s epic struggle to keep bankruptcy at bay has been out of the spotlight.
Bailout negotiations between Athens and its creditors have stalled. The possibility of Grexit, or euro exit, has re-emerged and bond yields have soared. The yield on two-year Greek government bonds has risen from 6% to 10% in less than two weeks as spooked investors have dumped their holdings. And the shrill rhetoric last seen at the height of the crisis in 2015 has returned.
Analysts sensing dangerous deadlock are sounding the alarm – an alarm that the embattled prime minister, Alexis Tsipras, was expected to raise in talks with the German chancellor and other European leaders in Malta on Friday.
“I am very worried we are heading towards a rupture with the EU,” said Pantelis Kapsis, a prominent political commentator. “There are lots of signs that at the back of their minds people in Syriza [the ruling leftist party] are entertaining various ideas of going it alone. What is sure is that we are entering a very difficult period which quite possibly could lead us to a point of no return.”
As always, time is of the essence. Shored up by a third EU-led bailout, Athens was told this week that further rescue funds would not be forthcoming until it concluded a compliance review of terms attached to the €86bn (£74bn) aid package.
Can you imagine! Demanding terms in return for money!
In July Greece faces debt repayments of €7.4bn, raising the spectre of default because state coffers by then will have run dry.
The impasse has turned into a standoff as creditors demand additional austerity once the current bailout expires. Without further reduction of pensions – already cut 12 times since the crisis began – and the tax-free threshold of personal incomes, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) argues, the debt-stricken country will never be able to achieve its agreed fiscal goal of a primary surplus of 3.5% of GDP from 2018.
In a fiery parliamentary debate late on Wednesday, Tsipras dug in, insisting his two-party coalition – in power with a wafer-thin majority of two – would not cave in to demands that his government has repeatedly called absurd. “The IMF’s demands go beyond any democratic and constitutional logic and value,” he railed.
Completion of the review is essential to Greece, exiled from international capital markets, being included in the European Central Bank’s 9 March bond-buying programme, key to the country regaining market access. If the deadline is missed few believe Athens will be able to keep itself afloat without a fourth bailout once the latest loans end.
And in a Europe preoccupied with other matters – and in fear of an anti-establishment ascendant far right – the prospect of that happening is slim. “What we are witnessing is a disaster for the real economy because everything is on hold,” said Costas Panagopoulos who heads the Alco polling institute. “Once again we are talking about economic catastrophe, once again we are talking about Grexit,” he told the Guardian. “The next few weeks are critical. If an agreement isn’t reached, if there is more uncertainty, we don’t know how Greeks will react.”
Go ahead and exit the Euro. You'll exit the Euro ranking system as well. Become more self-reliant. Things will suck for a few years, and then things will start to get better.
On Thursday, amid widespread rumours of his own resignation, the finance minister Euclid Tsakalotos attempted to deflect the spiralling tensions. In a written statement the Marxist economics professor said that while a third of the bailout review had been “totally completed” and a third “totally agreed”, the rest remained subject to “political negotiation” – raising little hope of the talks concluding any time soon.
But what happens next is dependent not only on what happens in Athens. To a great degree events in Europe and Washington will also play a role.
Ahead of Germany’s general election in September, Berlin’s finance minister Wolfgang Schäuble has also raised the stakes with growing criticism of Greece – a tactic that has proved popular with voters who might otherwise support Germany’s far-right AfD party. Earlier this week Bild, the mass-selling newspaper, stoked passions further by suggesting the German government was warming to the idea of Greece leaving the euro – a notion Schäuble has openly supported in the past.
Germany is going to have to bail out its banks anyway -- either a hard landing as Greece leaves the Euro or a soft landing as Greece negotiates away the debt. Either way Germany is on the hook for a lot of the bad loans. Might be better just to rip off the band-aid...
“Grexit is not our agenda, it is the agenda of those who want the breakup of Europe,” said Sia Anagnostopoulou, a leading Syriza MP and former alternate European affairs minister. “It is what Mr Schäuble wants,” she added, echoing the commonly held view that Athens is hostage to Germany.
Complicating matters further is the direction the IMF will take now that President Trump is in power. In his former role as a billionaire businessman, Trump tweeted that the Greeks were “wasting time” in the eurozone.
Last week, the IMF delivered its gloomiest assessment yet of Greece’s debt burden, arguing that it was not only unsustainable but eventually likely to become “explosive”. The IMF’s board will formally discuss the issue on 6 February but has already hinted that without a commitment of debt relief from the EU it will be unable to contribute further loans. Germany, the biggest contributor to the nearly €300bn of emergency funds assigned to Greece, insists further aid depends exclusively on IMF participation.
Analysts are undecided whether the government is deliberately stalling in the hope of getting a better deal as repayment season approaches and fears of a disorderly default mount, or whether it is playing with fire.
Syriza, like every governing party before it, has been hollowed out by the eviscerating effects of having to apply policies that it came to power vowing to oppose. On Tuesday its parliamentary spokesman took Greeks by storm proposing that Grexit be discussed “without taboo” in the 300-member house.
The once unassailable popularity of Tsipras, meanwhile, has been pummelled by the implementation of some of the harshest measures to date and few believe he has the political capital to enforce another round of austerity.
“It is not a can but a bomb being kicked down the road,” said one western diplomat. “In a world where liberal values are under threat we could be looking at a very dangerous scenario where the cradle of democracy also collapses.”
Bereft of growth and battered by cuts and tax increases, Greeks have become poorer and ever more cognizant of their own insolvency in a state where sovereignty exists in little more than name. One in three now live below the poverty line and unemployment hovers around 23%. The latest impasse has not only seen emigration levels rise and non-repayment of household and business loans soar but also nostalgia for the drachma grow.
That is what worries Panagopoulos, the pollster, most. What was once a minority view is changing fast, with the majority of Greeks in a recent Alco survey saying it was wrong to have joined the euro.
“We have become a society that has no hope, not even a slice or piece of hope for the future,” he sighed. “The only reason people want to stay in the euro is because they fear the consequences if we were to leave, but if things don’t get better that will change too.”

Jeddah- Deputy Chief of General Staff of Yemeni Armed Forces General Ahmed Saif confirmed that Houthi militias and their ally Ali Abdullah Saleh are plotting to blow up and destroy the infrastructure in Mokha city, specifically its port, by targeting the city’s fuel tanks and its main power plant.
Gen. Saif told Asharq Al-Awsat that the subversive acts that Houthi militias are plotting aim at implicating Arab coalition forces led by Saudi Arabia and the Yemeni army that has been besieging the city for several days now.
He pointed out that the Yemeni army has given a chance to the insurgents to surrender before soldiers break into the city and preserve the government’s resources.
“Houthis refused to surrender and have been barricading themselves by these fuel and gas tanks and the power plant to blow them up the moment the army decides to advance, showing the whole world that the military is carrying out destructive and sabotaging acts during the military confrontations.”
“The army is keen on the country’s resources, and throughout all the military confrontations with rebels it did not carry out any destructive act despite all the provocations by the Houthis and their allies in areas under their control,” Saif said.
He added that the army is giving a chance to those hiding in these sites to surrender before any military attack.
Moreover, the Yemeni General said that Houthi rebels prevented civilians in Mokha city from fleeing and used them as human shields, in violation of international rules that prohibit obstructing civilians from leaving areas witnessing military confrontations.
Gen. Saif stressed that the army is aware of what Houthis are plotting, especially in Mokha city where there are many facilities that the insurgents could attack.
Think about that for a moment: 0230 hrs midweek, 30 civilians were killed by gunfire, presumably by US gunfire, and that's just those who died. We didn't hear about wounded and we have no explanation why in one of the most politically repressive environments on the planet, 30 civilians would be doing anything but resting indoors for the day ahead.
Al-Qaeda is gaining ground in Yemen and could benefit from military actions like the deadly raid by elite US forces ordered by President Donald Trump, the International Crisis Group warned Thursday.
The ICG is the usual collection of UN and NGO elites. Everything the west does, and in particular everything the US does, makes the world worse. They can sing it chapter and verse...
“The Yemeni branch of Al-Qaeda is stronger than it has ever been,” ICG said in a report documenting the spread of Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP).
That's why you guys skulk about in deserts and hiding places...
The report was released after Sunday’s US air raid ordered by President Donald Trump on Bayda province in which more than a dozen civilians were killed in attacks on a school, a mosque and a hospital.
“The first military actions by the [US President Donald] Trump administration in Yemen bode poorly for the prospect of smartly and effectively countering AQAP,” read the report.
Although the US has said the strike killed at least 14 suspected terrorists and one US Navy force, the ICG said the death toll included “many civilians, including at least 10 women and children.”
Also known as "camp followers"...
The think tank warned that similar attacks could escalate fear and anti-US sentiments among civilians, laying the groundwork for recruitment by AQAP.
As can be seen by recently released video, "anti-US sentiments among civilians" is already at an all time high without the raids.
“The use of US soldiers, high civilian casualties and disregard for local tribal and political dynamics… plays into AQAP’s narrative of defending Muslims against the West and could increase anti-US sentiment and with it AQAP’s pool of recruits,” it said.
According to a Yemeni provincial official in Bayda, the US attack on Sunday killed 41 suspected militants and 16 civilians, eight of whom were women and eight children.
Kidz just innocently playing and frolicking in the middle of an intense firefight at 0230 hrs. Got it.
AQAP, however, announced in a statement that the strike killed 30 people “only women and children… with some tribal leaders who have no connections” to the group.
The al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula in Yemen has taken advantage of the chaos fueled by a deadly Saudi military campaign to tighten its grip on parts of southeast Yemen.
The Takfiri ISIL group has also gained ground in and around the main southern city of Aden after the army and their Houthi allies were evicted by the Saudi-led offensive launched in support of the former Hadi government.

An hour long firefight with who knew who was a jihadi. Women clad in Burkah with real combat skills firing at them, their craft crashed, just a little more Somalia than expected.
Little back-up. Shit happens I guess.
And next time, no change in Drone behavior until minutes before a raid but also, like in blackhawk down- expect skinny with burner phones to be announcing your entrance to the hornets nest.
[THELOCAL.DE] Turkish President Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First ... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him... on Thursday rebuked German Chancellor Angela Merkel ...current chancellor of Germany and the impetus behind Germany's remarkably ill-starred immigration program. Merkel used to be referred to by Germans as Mom... for using the expression "Islamist terrorism", saying the phrase was not correct and saddened Moslems.
Speaking after a critical bilateral meeting with Erdogan, Merkel spoke of the need for The Sick Man of Europe Turkey ...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire.... and Germany to cooperate even further to fight against terror, including "Islamist terrorism" and Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) hard boys.
"We spoke in detail about... the questions of the fight against Islamist terrorism, against every form of terrorism, also the terrorism of the PKK," she said alongside Erdogan at his palace in Ankara.
"We agree we want to cooperate, we are all affected by this. We agreed to have closer cooperation in the future," she said.
Erdogan, sitting next to Merkel, was stony-faced as she spoke.
Many Moslems oppose any equating of Islam and terror, arguing those who commit crimes purportedly in the name of Islam have nothing to do with a religion that espouses peace.
"This expression 'Islamist terror' seriously saddens us Moslems," Erdogan replied, glancing sternly at the German chancellor.
"Such an expression is not correct because Islam and terror cannot be associated. The meaning of Islam is peace."

Just for hurls, search for "rotherham" rape to get the full story.
Then, for worse, search for "rotherham" "multicultural boat" to get the story on how the authorities ignored, covered up, and in general looked the other way for ten years.

And we're doing the same thing with the Idaho case.

It is suspected that a number of police and other officials were paid off with access to girls the pimps controlled. Regardless there should have been arrest and prosecutions of those officials who let this happen on their watch.
[BREITBART] We gave them the White House. We gave them the House. We gave them the Senate. And yet they kept losing.
Under Republican control we got the largest expansion of an entitlement program in history and doubled the national debt. Under Democrats we got Obamacare ... aka the Affordable Care Act, an ineptly designed and worse executed piece of legislation designed to bring 17 percent of the U.S. economy under the direct control of the government. The previous iteration, known as Hillarycare, was laughed out of Washington. This stinker was passed on a party-line vote without being read... , and they doubled the debt again.
The Never Trumpers accused Donald Trump ...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States... of not being conservative, not being a constitutionalist and not being a Republican. They were too stupid to realize that all three of those "attacks" were actually selling points for the man who would become president.
When Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia died 13 days shy of a year ago, the stakes suddenly got very real. The Never Trumpers insisted Mr. Trump would appoint his sister or his butler or his pro-abortion, liberal dog to the high court, desecrating the seat once occupied by one of the greatest legal forces in American history.
Instead, President Trump nominated Judge Neil Gorsuch, a man qualified beyond any doubt to fill that seat. And a man every bit as devoted to preserving and faithfully adhering to the Constitution.
It would be nice for the holier-than-thou Never Trumpers to finally acknowledge how wrong they were and concede that maybe, just maybe, you don’t have to be one of them to care about the country and stick up for the Constitution.
But that is unlikely. Donald Trump Derangement Syndrome is terminal, so we must settle for the sounds of their death rattles.

...you don't have to be one of them to care about the country and stick up for the Constitution.
That's an interesting turn of phrase there Charlie. It's probably fair to say every president has stuck up for the Constitution. Not all have followed the Constitution. Your assessment may be a tad premature. Here's hoping your right.

Not that I agree with the sentiment, but it helps with accuracy if the entire line was quoted:
It would be nice for the holier-than-thou Never Trumpers to finally acknowledge how wrong they were and concede that maybe, just maybe, you don’t have to be one of them to care about the country and stick up for the Constitution.

The latest Gorsuch 'news' I have seen is that his HS yearbook lists him as the founder of the 'Fascists Forever' club. (No record of such a club exists, and the best explanation is it was a comment on the then-current description of Pres. Reagan as a fascist.)
