Hispanic coed demands whites fund her spring break as payback for ‘genocide and enslavement of our ppl'
On Sunday, Liberty Unyielding’s Ben Bowles wrote that Leandra Vargas, a student at Pitzer University in Claremont, Calif., is seeking a form of reparations by demanding white students pay for her spring break in retaliation for the alleged "genocide and enslavement" of Hispanics.

According to Bowles:

Vargas sent out an email to the student community at large reminding white students of their massive debt to Hispanics whose sacrifice underlies "everything that u have/are." (She also reminds them of the "genocide and enslavement of our ppl" -- whatever that might be a reference to.)

So, is Vargas seeking a cut in tuition? The assurance that more Hispanics will be hired to join the faculty? Nope. She wants her "white allies," as she puts it, to help her escape the "toxic" environment of "this institution" ... by financing her spring break!

Here’s the email, which must be seen to be believed:

-Short Attention Span Theater-
4chan Finds and Desecrates Hidden Flagpole on Shia LaBeouf's ‘He Will Not Divide Us' Stream
Internet sleuths tracked down Shia LaBeouf’s anti-Trump "He Will Not Divide Us" protest exhibit on Thursday and disrupted it for the third time, replacing the white flag featured on the online live stream with a pro-Trump t-shirt and MAGA hat.

The third location for "He Will Not Divide Us" was not disclosed by LaBeouf following disruptive incidents at previous exhibitions. However, by analyzing flight contrails and even celestial navigation, users from 4chan managed to pinpoint the new location in under two days.
Just imagine if these guys had day jobs.
Page Six reports 4chan users "started studying planes flying over the flag, and took note of flight times" in order to determine where it may be. They also "studied the sun and star patterns behind the flag," as well as taking note of a picture of LaBeouf in a Tennessee diner to narrow down the area where the flag was hidden. A 4chan user in the suspected area drove around honking the horn of his car so that it could be heard on the video stream, allowing others to triangulate where the flag could be based on the driver’s location.

The flag was found in the middle of the night and taken down.

Shortly after the flag’s replacement, the property owner noticed the swap, pulled down the Trump gear, and turned off the stream.

Early on Friday, a 4chan user posted a picture of the alleged stolen flag.

Internet trolls have interrupted all of LaBeouf’s previous exhibitions, which started off at the Museum of the Moving Image in New York City.

As the official site explains, "On February 10, 2017, the Museum of the Moving Image abandoned the project," following several incidents that showed LaBeouf attacking Trump supporters and trolls at the location.

"On February 18, 2017, the project the project relocated to a wall outside the El Rey Theater, Albuquerque," states the site. However, this was also shut down following gunshots at the location.

On March 8, 2017, the project moved to the -- until now -- secret location. The stream is back up at this point, but it currently shows just an empty flag pole.
Fitting.

Terror Networks
US retires Predator drones after 15 years that changed the 'war on terror'
[Guardian] The Predator is dead; long live the Reaper. The retirement of the antiquated Predator drone MQ-1, which is to be withdrawn from service in July and replaced by the more capable MQ-9 Reaper, is giving military analysts an opportunity to review the mixed history of a weapon that has long been associated with low-cost war, a sense of disembodiment from conflict, and for inflicting a high number of civilian casualties.

"There’s a perception in large parts of the American political system that drone campaigns are more or less free, but that’s not true," says Stephen Biddle, senior fellow for defense policy at the Council on Foreign Relations. "Like anything that’s perceived as free, it tends to get overused."

The General Atomics remote-piloted plane entered service in 1995 as the reconnaissance drone RQ-1. But in 1999 it was fitted with Hellfire missiles and re-designated MQ-1, an ad-hoc adaptation that would give it a reputation as a silent assassin.

The first Predator strike is believed to have taken place in Afghanistan in 2002, but it was not until 2004 that the US launched its first drone strike in Pakistan, an attack that killed Taliban leader Nek Muhammad.

#6  ...On my last trip to RED FLAG in 1998, I had a chance to spend a couple hours with the Predator guys - they on the long end of the supply chain (IF they could get supplies at all) ignored, and mocked. But one of their flight officers - a brand new 2LT - looked me dead in the eye and said that someday the Air Force would need them, and need them badly...and they'd be there.

God bless you and your birds, Lieutenant.

Bitter Old Man Throws Tantrum - Hint: It's Maverick

A senior Republican lawmaker on Sunday challenged President Donald Trump to prove his claim that his phone was tapped by predecessor Barack Obama during last year's campaign -- or else retract the unsubstantiated allegation.
Maverick is the Prodigal Son of Media Darlings when he's attacking Reps. F*ck off, RINO
Senator John McCain, a frequent Trump critic, issued his demand in an interview with CNN.

"The president has one of two choices, either retract, or to provide the information that the American people deserve," McCain said.

"I have no reason to believe this is true, but I also believe that the president of the United States could clear this up in a minute," he continued.

"All he has to do is pick up the phone, call the director of the CIA, the director of national intelligence and say, 'OK, what happened?' Because they certainly should know whether the former president of the United States was wiretapping Trump Tower."

Obama, through a spokesman, has denied Trump's claim, which the billionaire-turned-politician made in a series of tweets earlier this month.

Obama's director of national intelligence Notorious Liar James Clapper also said in an interview that there was no wiretap of Trump or his campaign.
Well, then. If you can't believe Clapper...nevermind

#10  If they choose to thread the needle with some mealy mouthed politispeak POTUS will forever be viewed as just another lying politician.

Liberals voted for Obama in spite of the fact that he was just another lying politician, dating back to before he became one. They voted for him because he would advance liberal causes. And Obama did. He got Americans killed for no good reason so he could engage in moral preening over reduced civilian casualties, which also brought about fewer enemy casualties and a revival in their war efforts.

I understand why Trump has to make plausible but unproven allegations. Because the media and the Democrats are retailing implausible unproven allegations about him. And engaging in a campaign of lies and distortions. Trump needs to attack in order to avoid letting much of the media's lies, distortions and implausible unproven allegations stick to him. That's all there is to it.

Bush crushed the GOP by refusing to respond to his critics. Trump is keeping it alive by giving as good as he gets. If Trump gets the American public to understand that the media's relationship with liberals/Democrats is basically the Soviet Union's relationship with Pravda (albeit without the coercion), then he could accomplish nothing else during this term and still have rendered an important service to the American people.

#15  Zhang Fei, so if I understand you correctly President Trump is, at times, forced to make "plausible but unproven allegations".(aka; Bullshit) So when the WH asks the congressional Intelligence committees to investigate said allegations they would be best served not to waste time and money on such a BS request. And because the rest of us now won't be able to distinguish if any of the POTUS statements are factual, until further notice, we would be wise to first treat them as BS. Saw Gov. Jessie Ventura try that less than successful strategy. Who knows maybe DJT can pull it off.

The End of the World...for Liberals
[American Thinker] In The Power of Now, Eckhart Tolle demonstrated how human consciousness becomes imprisoned by the controlling mind, and how that mind, so much focused on the task of controlling and centralizing one's attention on the past and future, may feel threatened by any attempt to escape from mental control. The imprisoned mind will seek to reassert its enslavement at the first hint of change.

Just such a separation of consciousness from Being, or, if you will, of mankind from God, is exactly what is at play in our current national drama. A powerful mental construct ‐ the liberal myth of a progressive utopia brought about by surrender of the individual to state control ‐ is at risk of being swept away by a great movement to free consciousness from the controlling ideas of the liberal past. As Shelby Steele wrote in a remarkable March 6 op-ed ("The Exhaustion of American Liberalism"), we stand "at the end of something," that something being the radical mindset that has dominated so much of American intellectual life since the 1960s.

"The jig is up." Liberalism no longer possesses the moral authority to control our national politics.

Liberals are terrified of Trump because they know that their great myth, once the light of consciousness has been shined on it, will dissolve as quickly as a grain of salt in water. As Steele puts it, the "president rolls his eyes when he is called a racist, and we all ‐ liberal and conservative alike ‐ know that he isn't one." Elizabeth Warren's Jeff Sessions rant was just that: a hysterical rant, and everyone knows it. "White guilt," and all that goes with it, is now just tiresome noise. There is no reality to liberals' mental myth of the enlightened state. Once it comes under awareness, it dissolves.

In Tolle's thinking, the concentration of consciousness on the "now" to the exclusion of past and present awakens presence, a powerful field of energy that can be directed toward learning, acting, healing, or any other endeavor. Presence is transformative in a way that the mere chatter of mind can never be because presence transcends the self-limiting contradictions, inhibitions, and mental rubbish of regret, fear, and false hope.

FBI undercover stings foil terrorist plots ‐ but often plots of the agency's own making
[Kansas City Star] Announcements of foiled terrorist plots make for lurid reading.

Schemes to carry out a Presidents Day jihadist attack on a train station in Kansas City. Bomb a Sept. 11 memorial event. Blow up a 1,000-pound bomb at Fort Riley. Detonate a weapon of mass destruction at a Wichita airport -- the failed plans all show imagination.

But how much of it was real?

Often not much, according to a review of several recent terrorism cases investigated by the FBI in Kansas and Missouri. The most sensational plots invoking the name of the Islamic State or al-Qaida here were largely the invention of FBI agents carrying out elaborate sting operations on individuals identified through social media as being potentially dangerous.

In fact, in terrorism investigations in Wichita, at Fort Riley and last week in Kansas City, the alleged terrorists reportedly were unknowingly following the directions of undercover FBI agents who supplied fake bombs and came up with key elements of the plans.

#6  The problem is that ISIS also has groomers looking for these people, and when they're done with 'em, they'll commit jihad for real. Rachid Kassim, who specialized in youths in France for ISIS, had 317 boys and girls who were his friends on the Telegram chat app -- a significant number not originally Muslim -- that he was at various stages of seducing either to make hijra to Iraq or commit jihad at home. He accounted for half of the jihadi plot arrests in France last year, as I recall. It was reported that he was killed by a drone this February. In time, no doubt, it will be revealed who took over cultivating his garden, and who is cultivating other gardens using ISIS' channel on Telegram.

#7  Shortsighted articles such as these never quite a give the complete picture. In one respect they reveal the challenges (often folly) of conducting domestic counter-terrorism through a law enforcement model. But they always seem to insinuate that the mental instability of the targets is proof of their vulnerability. And they never state the obvious. People that are willing to kill and maime innocents are wired much differently than the rest of civilized society. Moreover, Islamic terrorists willing to kill themselves in a quest for martyrdom can't be treated the same as common criminals. Therfore prevention strategies require a more aggressive approach.

Europe
Holland: the Canary in the European Coal Mine
[GP] Holland was the first European country I set foot in as a lad, and it continues to have a special place in my memory. But the country I encountered in the summer of 1970 is all but unrecognizable now. In a fit of cultural enervation, social ennui, and just plain suicidal stupidity, it was among the first Western countries to throw open its doors to the avant-garde of Islam, and is now paying the price. So with the Dutch elections now looming, the question is: can the tide of Muslim social conquest be reversed?

The question is precipitated by the extraordinary sight of riots in Rotterdam this weekend when the Dutch government forbade the Turkish minister of family affairs from landing in Holland in order to openly campaign among Holland's Turkish "emigrant" community on behalf of Turkish strongman Erdogan's latest power grab, which is coming up for a vote on April 16. Naturally, she simply snuck across the border from Germany into the Netherlands, but the Dutch somehow managed enough backbone to block her.

Sweden Realizes It's Been Financially Supporting Hundreds Of Terrorists For Years
[Daily Caller] Close to every person who left Sweden to fight for terror groups in the Middle East received welfare to support themselves abroad, according to a new government report.

A study of 300 Swedish citizens who fought in Syria and Iraq between 2013 and 2016 shows jihadis are getting increasingly good at getting away with welfare fraud. The individuals often use a person in Sweden to handle paperwork and create the illusion that they’re still in the country.

"It’s not surprising, we’ve seen the same pattern in other countries," Magnus Ranstorp, one of the authors behind the report, told state broadcaster SVT. "What’s most surprising is that close to everyone received it in some form. The oversight process needs to get better."
"What you subsidize, you get more of."
The most attractive option are government loans to study abroad. The loans are easy to get and thousands of dollars are paid out at once.
Very good. Now that this has been both realized and admitted, what will the Swedish government do about it?

Cummings: 'May be' connection between Bharara firing, investigations of Trump
[The Hill] Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Md.) said there could be a connection between the firing of former U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara and investigations into President Trump.

During an interview on ABC's "This Week," Cummings, the ranking member of the House Oversight Committee, said the president has the right to fire U.S. attorneys.

But he noted that not very long ago, the president said he was willing to "keep the U.S. attorney there in New York."

"And then suddenly, he's, I guess, changed his mind," Cummings said.

"I'm just curious as to why that is, and certainly there's a lot of questions coming up as to whether ... President Trump is concerned about the jurisdiction of this U.S. attorney and whether that might affect his future," he continued.
"You look at everything surrounding the investigations -- there are a lot of questions that need to be asked, but again, the president does have that prerogative."

Haqqanis, LeT, JeM should be treated like terror groups, says India
Yes, well they would think so.
[HINDUSTANTIMES] India has said that outfits like the Haqqani network, LeT and JeM should be treated like terrorist groups and warned that terrorism’s "resurgent forces" are not given sanctuaries and safe havens in any form.

"The unimpeded and increasingly brutal terrorist attacks, the territorial gains by terrorist groups with support from outside Afghanistan and the emerging grave humanitarian crises are all portents of dreadful times," India’s Permanent Representative to the UN Syed Akbaruddin said on Friday during a Security Council session on the situation in Afghanistan.

"It is our first and foremost duty to ensure that the resurgent forces of terrorism and extremism do not find sanctuaries and safe havens in any name, form or manifestation," he said, adding that experience has shown when "foreign assistance" is available to Death Eaters, situations tend to fester and take a greater toll.

He strongly warned against differentiating between good and bad holy warriors as well as playing one group against the other.

"The Taliban, Haqqani Network, al Qaeda, ISIS, Lashkar-e-Taiba
...the Army of the Pure, an Ahl-e-Hadith terror organization founded by Hafiz Saeed. LeT masquerades behind the Jamaat-ud-Dawa facade within Pakistain and periodically blows things up and kills people in India. Despite the fact that it is banned, always an interesting concept in Pakistain, the organization remains an blatant tool and perhaps an arm of the ISI...
, Jaish-e-Mohammad
...literally Army of Mohammad, a Pak-based Deobandi terror group founded by Maulana Masood Azhar in 2000, after he split with the Harkat-ul-Mujaheddin. In 2002 the government of Pervez Musharraf banned the group, which changed its name to Khaddam ul-Islam and continued doing what it had been doing before without missing a beat...
, and others of their ilk are all terror organizations, many of them proscribed by the UN. They should be treated like terrorist organizations and their activities universally opposed," he said.

In a criticism of the world body, Akbaruddin said it is obvious that the political process the UN had started and the sanction regimes it had split have not quite worked.

"The fact that the Council has not acted on the Taliban leaders as it had vowed in resolution 1988 is now well documented," he said.

The Indian envoy also strongly criticised the Security Council’s subsidiary body for taking four months to confirm the death of the leader of the Taliban.

"It is now 7 months and we are still counting as we await the decision of the Council’s same subsidiary on freezing the accounts of that slain terrorist," he said.

Akbaruddin cautioned that the international community cannot stand and watch from the sidelines as gains achieved by them and the Afghan people towards the war-torn country’s development in the last decades are reversed.

India called for decisive action to combat terror groups, saying nations have had to pay a costly price for their inactions in the past.

"While territories are captured by terrorists, people are killed and threatened to go back to a situation perhaps same as or worse than what they fled, can we remain just looking on? Standing, where we are today, it is imperative that we take action and take it decisively. We must not forget the implications the world faced in 2001 for its lack of action. History never forgives those who forget it," he added.

Runaway bus 'kills 34' in Haitian city of Gonaives
[BBC] At least 34 people have been killed after a runaway bus veered into crowd in the Haitian city of Gonaives, officials say. The vehicle first knocked over two pedestrians, killing one, French-language media report. The driver then tried to flee the scene. He rammed the bus into a band of street musicians, leaving dozens dead, according to unconfirmed reports.

Gonaives is located 150km (90 miles) north of the capital, Port-au-Prince.

The incident on Sunday left dozens of people injured, who were quickly transported to hospital by the emergency services.

Witnesses gathered at the scene became hostile after seeing the driver attempt to flee, which caused further deaths and injuries, AFP reports, adding that they then tried to set the vehicle alight.

Germany agrees to deport Bardo museum fugitive to Tunisia
[MIDDLEEASTMONITOR] German Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere said today that a Tunisian man wanted in his homeland for his possible involvement in a deadly attack on a Tunis museum in 2015 can be deported.

The man was tossed in the slammer

last month on suspicion of planning a terrorist attack in Germany.

In 2015, bully boy turbans stormed the Bardo museum and killed 21 foreign tourists.

"I can confirm that the talks between us and the Tunisian side have been successful. The terrorist is sitting in jug and I expect that he will soon be deported," de Maiziere told broadcaster ARD for the Bericht aus Berlin programme.

The Tunisian, identified by German media as Haikel S., was arrested last month and is believed to have recruited for ISIS in Germany, German prosecutors have said.

He had lived in Germany for a decade until 2013 before re-entering the country to seek asylum in August 2015, five months after the storming of the Bardo museum, the prosecutors said.

Tunisian Sherlocks suspect the Tunisian asylum seeker was involved in the assault and had issued a warrant for his arrest in June 2016.

Earlier Italia said it had expelled a Tunisian who might have had links with the man who killed 12 people in Berlin by driving a truck into a Christmas market.

Steve King: Geert Wilders tweet sparks a social media backlash
[BBC] Senior Republican congressman Steve King has sparked a backlash on social media after tweeting his support for the Dutch anti-Islam politician, Geert Wilders.

"Wilders understands that culture and demographics are our destiny," Mr King wrote on Twitter.

"We can't restore our civilisation with somebody else's babies," he added.

The US Republican Representative of Iowa is a strong advocate of putting a stop to birthright citizenship.

All children born in the US currently get citizenship under the constitution, including the children of families living in America illegally.

Mr King has pushed for radical reform of the interpretation of the 14th amendment of the US constitution so that it no longer gives the children of undocumented migrants colonists the right to a US passport.

Russia sends mercenaries to back Libya’s Haftar
[MIDDLEEASTMONITOR] A force of several dozen armed private security contractors from Russia operated until last month in a part of Libya that is under the control of regional leader Khalifa Haftar
... served in the Libyan army under Muammar Qadaffy, and took part in the coup that brought Qadaffy to power in 1969. He became a prisoner of war in Chad in 1987. While held prisoner, he and his fellow officers formed a group hoping to overthrow Qadaffy. He was released around 1990 in a deal with the United States government and spent nearly two decades in the United States, gaining US citizenship. In 1993, while living in the United States, he was convicted in absentia of crimes against the Jamahiriya and sentenced to death. Haftar held a senior position in the anti-Qadaffy forces in the 2011 Libyan Civil War. In 2014 he was commander of the Libyan Army when the General National Congress (GNC) refused to give up power in accordance with its term of office. Haftar launched a campaign against the GNC and its Islamic fundamentalist allies. His campaign allowed elections to take place to replace the GNC, but then developed into a civil war. Guess you can't win them all...
, Rooters reported the head of the firm that hired the contractors as saying.

It is the clearest signal to date that Moscow is prepared to back up its public diplomatic support for Haftar ‐ even at the risk of alarming Western governments already irked at Russia’s intervention in Syria to prop up dictator Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Lord of the Baath...
Haftar is opposed to a UN-backed government which Western states see as the best chance of restoring stability in Libya. But some Russian policymakers see the Libyan as a strongman who can end the six years of anarchy that followed the ousting of veteran tyrant Muammar Qadaffy
...a reminder that a single man with an idea can change an entire nation, usually for the worse...
The presence of the military contractors was, according to the head of the firm, a commercial arrangement. It is unlikely though to have been possible without Moscow’s approval, according to people who work in the industry in Russia.

Read: Russia and Libya sign new oil deal

Oleg Krinitsyn, owner of private Russian firm RSB-group, said he sent the contractors to eastern Libya last year and they were pulled out in February having completed their mission.

In an interview with Rooters, he said their task was to remove mines from an industrial facility near the eastern Libyan city of Benghazi, in an area that Haftar’s forces had captured from rebels.

He declined to say who hired his firm to provide the contractors, where they were operating or what the industrial facility was. He did not say if the operation had been approved by the UN-backed government, which most states view as the sovereign ruler of Libya.

Asked whether the mission had official blessing from Moscow, Krinitsyn said his firm did not work with the Russian defence ministry, but was "consulting" with the Russian foreign ministry.

Shia militant killed in gunfight with Saudi forces
[MIDDLEEASTMONITOR] A wanted person has been fatally maimed during an operation by Saudi security forces in eastern Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
, the interior ministry said today, in the second incident of its kind since Friday.

Residents said that a 16-year-old youth died in the raid on Saturday morning targeting wanted people in Awamiya, a restive town in the Qatif district, where many of the country’s Shia minority live.

The interior ministry said security forces came under fire while pursuing desperados who had been hiding in houses vacated by inhabitants to pave the way for a development project intended to revamp the area.

"Security men came under heavy gunfire at the Musawara neighbourhood from an unknown source, which required an appropriate response," the statement, carried by state news agency SPA said.

"As a result, Walid Talal Ali al-Arayedh, who is wanted by security authorities, was maimed and taken to a hospital where he later died."

Rooters reported residents reached by telephone as claiming that al-Arayedh was a bystander in the area when he was fatally shot and taken to a hospital by his family, where he died.

However,
women are made to be loved, not understood...
Saudi authorities insist that al-Arayedh was an armed runaway who opened fire on security forces and was shot in the ensuing battle.

Activists posted video and audio recordings of heavy automatic fire and images of vehicles riddled with bullets from the raid, which they said lasted for about three hours. The authenticity of the recordings could not immediately be verified.

On Friday, SPA reported that security forces killed Mustafa Ali Abdullah al-Madad, who was wanted by security forces for "a number of terror crimes against the citizens and security personnel" in Qatif district.

Awamiya was the hometown of prominent Iran-backed Shia holy man Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr, whose execution in January last year prompted angry protests against the ruling Al Saud dynasty and led to Saudi Arabia cutting off relations with Iran after regime-backed Iranians set the Saudi Embassy in Tehran ablaze.

Islamic State Relationship Advice: Gossiping About Wives Shows ‘Lack of Manliness’
[BREITBART] The Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS/ISIS), through a relationship advice column featured in the latest issue of its Rumiyah propaganda magazine, warns jihadi husbands against gossiping about their wives, saying it shows a "lack of manliness."

Titled, "The Flesh of Your Spouse Is Poisonous," the marriage advice article notes that jihadi husbands must not reveal secret information about their relationship no matter the number of wives, according to Daily Mail.

Worse than a wife who engages in gossip is "an otherwise intelligent man speaking about the secrets of his home to others," points out Rumiyah.

"Indeed, this is evidence of a lack of manliness," declares the ISIS article. "Only one who makes a fool of himself does such a thing."

Acknowledging that even jihadists have to "breathe and vent" at times, the column suggests that husbands should reserve complaints for a religious "counselor who is trusted with regards to his religion and morals, and who safeguards the secrets of those of his brothers who speak to him."

The article compares a husband exposing the secrets of his relationship with a wife removing "her veil in front of other men."

ISIS further notes in the column:

Some spouses -- be they men or women -- are not careful when it comes to exposing their homes to gossip and idle talk. We often find husbands talking about the problems that happen between them and their wives in both private and public gatherings, and also find that wives do so as well. Each of them might mention the other, in the latter’s absence, with displeasing terms.

Backbiting is a disease of the tongue that only incurs ruin and loss.

Neither spouse "is allowed to backbite the other ‐ even when one is right concerning his claims," states the terrorist group.

Rejecting hate
[DAWN] DAYS after the military leadership publicly urged the government to accelerate the implementation of the National Action Plan, and more than a week since the combined military and civilian leadership pledged to take up the fight against extremism, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif
... served two non-consecutive terms as prime minister, heads the Pakistain Moslem League (Nawaz). Noted for his spectacular corruption, the 1998 Pak nuclear test, border war with India, and for being tossed by General Musharraf...
has made a frank and timely appeal to religious scholars and leaders. In a speech in Jamia Naeemia in Lahore, Mr Sharif called on religious leaders to reject preaching hate and sowing divisions among Paks and to instead promote tolerance and inclusivity. The prime minister is right and he must carry his message, personally and through his government, to all corners of the land. A frank assessment of what ails the religious right and its powerful networks across the country is the right starting point and is made all the more effective when it is done directly, without proxies and in simple but powerful language. Indeed, Mr Sharif should encourage other mainstream politicians to carry the same message across the provinces and territories of Pakistain. If the long war against militancy and extremism is to be won, the mainstream political forces in the country must patiently though determinedly confront the forces of darkness in the country.

Fighting extremism, promoting the message of democracy, tolerance and inclusivity, and healing the wounds that have cut so deep in recent decades will necessarily have to go beyond speeches. While Mr Sharif and all likeminded politicians who want to embrace the same social message should be applauded and encouraged, the difficulties of the fight ahead should not be ignored. With the PML-N, there is also a concern that Mr Sharif uses such speeches to either soften the party’s image or counter some unpalatable aspects of its politics as practised by other N-League leaders -- there being no evidence yet that the party intends to translate Mr Sharif’s occasional words into a viable policy, legislative or governance agenda. Consider that for all of Mr Sharif’s welcome words yesterday, there was no road map laid out for how the government intends to promote religious tolerance or what steps it is willing to take against religious elements peddling extremism. What the government either fails to understand or refuses to acknowledge is that extremism is not a static force; it is spreading and, in some cases, accelerating. The longer the government fails to draw up and implement a viable plan to combat extremism, the harder that eventual and necessary fight will be.

German minister links Essen security alert to Islamic State
[REUTERS] Germany's interior minister said police had stopped a possible attack at a shopping center in the western city of Essen on Saturday and there were indications of a link to Islamic State

hard boys.

Germany is on high alert following deadly hard boy attacks in La Belle France and Belgium and after a failed asylum seeker from Tunisia drove a truck into a Berlin Christmas market in December, killing 12 people. Islamic State grabbed credit for that attack.

Police closed one of Germany's biggest shopping malls on Saturday after security agencies warned of a possible attack and questioned two men in connection with the threat.

Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere said there could have been an attack at the shopping center.

"That was stopped," he told public broadcaster ARD on Sunday, adding there was a connection to someone pulling the strings in Islamic State.

"There were indications or orders from someone who had traveled to the region (Syria) from Germany. That shows how close the connection is. So it is good that the federal and regional security authorities were vigilant," said de Maiziere.

Security sources told Rooters that the threat appeared to follow a call for violence by a German hard boy loyal to Islamic State who is currently based in a region of Syria controlled by the hard boy group.

He reiterated that the danger of a terrorist attack in Germany remained high. Officials are worried that Islamist Lions of Islam will return from Syria or Iraq to stage attacks on German soil.

Germany hunts possible contacts of mall attack plotter

[AlAhram] German police were searching Sunday for possible contacts of an IS myrmidon believed to be behind a terror plot against the Limbecker Platz mall in the central city of Essen.

Although there was no announcement of arms or explosives being found, Essen police said two men were tossed into the calaboose for questioning in the nearby town of Oberhausen. One man was later released, while the second was still being questioned, police said, adding that authorities were looking into "objects that were found in his possession".

Germany's domestic intelligence service had tipped police off about the threat, AFP learned Sunday.

A German fighter of the Islamic State group, who is in Syria, had sought to recruit several people for an attack in Essen, according to a source speaking on condition of anonymity
... for fear of being murdered...
. Investigators are examining if the attacker is working with anyone in Germany, added the source.

According to Bild daily, the IS fighter also provided instructions on bomb building in his online chat messages.

Domestic security officials estimate there are some 10,000 radical Islamists in Germany, with roughly 1,600 among them suspected of being capable of violence.

Libya’s deepening split finds battleground at oil terminals
[Gulf News] Hundreds if not thousands of gunnies are converging on Libya’s main oil shipping terminals, which the rival powers in the country’s east and west are fighting to control in a battle being watched by global oil markets.

The struggle for the Ras Lanuf refinery and nearby Sidr depot threatens to spiral into an all-out conflict between east and west. Already, it has seen the bloodiest fighting yet between the two camps: Around 40 troops from the east were killed over four days as militias backed by western factions stormed the area last Friday, losing a handful of casualties.

Now forces from the east loyal to military strongman Khalifa Haftar

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Iranian backed militia forms Golan liberation brigade
[Ynet] An Iraqi Shiite brigade, who is backed by Iran, declares its intentions: liberate the Golan; trained and armed by Iran with Russian weaponry, this branch of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps poses possible threat to Israel.

Equipped with Russian-made tanks (via the Syrian army), Iranian rockets and operating as an elite unit trained by the Islamic Theocratic Republic, a brigade formed by the Iraqi Shiite militia declared that its target is to liberate the Golan. This brigade is the reason behind the message Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu conveyed in Russia, according to which Israel will not tolerate permanent Iranian presence in Syria.

"The declaration regarding the formation of the liberation of the Golan brigade is not only a media campaign, but the real goal of the movement," said the secretary general of the militia, Akram al-Kabi.

So who is this militia? Intelligence researcher Ronen Solomon, owner of the Intel Times blog, traced this significant branch of Iran's Revolutionary Guard.

"The militia's name first surfaced in 2013 when it deployed its divisions in Syria, in the areas of Sayyidah Zaynab of the Damascus suburbs (which is sacred to the Shiites), Idlib, Aleppo, Homs, al-Klmon near the Lebanese border, and Iraq under the auspices of the Revolutionary Guard," Solomon explained.

"That same year, the militia released a series of videos that expressed loyalty to the commander of the Revolutionary Guard's Quds Force, Qasem Soleimani, and even adopted the resistance symbols of Hezbollah," continued Solomon.

The organization in question is an extension of the Popular Mobilization Forces in Iraq that includes several Shiite militias who are perceived as controversial due to their religious zeal.

The organization, according to Solomon's analysis, is one of the Shiite militias deployed to Syria by Iran to help Hezbollah and the Syrian army in securing the Shiite holy places, but also to conquer the strategic city of Aleppo, in addition to reinforcing Hezbollah's defense in the al-Klmon Mountains. "All activity is coordinated with Russia, who has been providing the forces with aerial backup and assisting in transferring weapons of their production."

Solomon claimed that the Iraqi militia has an elite unit trained by Iran, which operates in similar fashion to Hezbollah's elite Radwan Force. "Iran provided the militia with multi barrel rocket launchers... and even though the rockets are not precise, they hold deadly impact, which has proven itself in Iraq against American bases and now, in pounding rebel outposts in northern Syria."

In recent months, there have been records of the Syrian militia fighters equipped with Russian T-90 tanks, which they probably received indirectly from Russia through the Syrian army, according to Solomon's assessment. He noted that "the fighting in Iraq and Syria has made them proficient in guerrilla warfare and urban warfare."

Solomon also linked between this militia and the reports concerning an attempt by the Quds Force to use an Iraqi citizen with a Norwegian citizenship against Israel from Jordan territory in July 2015. Jordan tossed in the calaboose
Drop the rod and step away witcher hands up!
the citizen, who was captured with 45 kilograms of powerful explosives.

Sheikh al-Kabi, who heads the militia, occasionally exchanges his traditional garb with a military uniform: "He wanders back and forth on the Iraq--Iran axis, Syria and Leb ... and holds meetings with security officials working from the Iranian government, and even visits in Leb with Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah."

In September 2015, al-Kabi gave a speech to his fighters in Aleppo, going so far as to directly accuse Israel of attacking his organization, a claim which to this day remains unproven. al-Kabi neglected to specify where and where Israel had allegedly attacked, but this accusation is a first of its kind.

Usually, the attacks attributed to Israel in Syria are meant to prevent arms shipments from being transferred to Hezbollah in Leb. However,
those who apply themselves too closely to little things often become incapable of great things...
on the backdrop of the formation of this brigade along with Netanyahu's quicksilver visit to Russia, it is quite possible that one day, Israel will find itself in conflict with this Shiite militia.

South Korea's Park leaves presidential palace after impeachment
[BBC] Ousted South Korean leader Park Geun-hye has now left the presidential palace, two days after judges upheld parliament's decision to impeach her.

Ms Park arrived at her home in southern Seoul amid waving supporters.

She has been impeached over her role in a corruption scandal involving close friend, Choi Soon-sil.

In her first words since Friday's ruling, Ms Park said in a statement: "Although it will take time, I believe the truth will certainly come out."

She also apologised to her supporters for "failing to fulfil my duty as president".

Ms Park has now lost her immunity and could face criminal proceedings over accusations she allowed Ms Choi to extort money from companies in return for political favours.

Islamic State’s German Magazine Tells Fighters To Kill ‘Apostate’ Imams
[BREITBART] The German-language Islamic state magazine Rumiyah has called on supporters and Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
fighters in Germany and Austria to murder moderate Imams who they consider "apostates."

The magazine was released in several languages earlier this week through the various internet channels Islamic State uses to broadcast propaganda to its sympathisers, MEMRI reports. One of the methods used was a "telegram" app, an encrypted messaging service that ISIS often uses and is generally the first place the group takes credit for terror attacks.

The terror group named several prominent members of the Moslem community in both Germany and Austria as potential targets for liquidation in an article entitled "Kill the infidel imams in Germany and Austria."

Among the targets listed is Aiman Mazyek, Secretary-General of the Central Council of Moslems in Germany. Mazyek has made controversial statements in the past, such as calling for German leaders to limit the number of migrants colonists flowing into the country in late 2015.
Sensible and honest. Did German bien pensants slam him as a racist at the time?
The Moslem leader has also slammed the anti-mass migration Alternative for Germany (AfD) likening them to Nazis after they revealed a platform of anti-Islamisation last year.

Omar al-Rawi, a Vienna city councilman for the Socialist Party (SPÖ) and a member of the Council Committee on European and International Affairs was also listed as a target. al-Rawi is also no stranger to controversy ‐ in 2010 he led an official condemnation of Israel in the Vienna city hall over the Israeli raids on a flotilla heading for Gazoo, which Israeli authorities claimed was not the humanitarian mission activists stated it to be.

Al-Rawi also led a protest against Israel in Vienna. Among the demonstrators were members of the Turkish far-right nationalist group the Grey Wolves who have clashed with Kurds in Germany and have been accused of trying to infiltrate German Chancellor Angela Merkel
...current chancellor of Germany and the impetus behind Germany's remarkably ill-starred immigration program. Merkel used to be referred to by Germans as Mom...
’s Christian Democratic Union (CDU) party through its diversity program.
Was it the Grey Wolves who the Germans meant when they stated that Turkey had increased spying in Germany, or are they enthusiastic amateurs in addition to the Turkish professionals looking for Gulenists in Turkey's near abroad?
Killing Imams they don’t agree with is nothing new for the Islamic State. In 2014 ISIS executed 13 holy mans in the city of djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
whom they deemed to be too moderate. Imam Muhammad al Mansuri was one of the victims of the terror group and was the imam in charge of the mosque in which ISIS leader Abu-Bakr al-Baghdadi gave a rare public appearance to lead prayers.

Islamic State killed a further six imams in early 2015 after they condemned the group’s actions when they burned Jordanian pilot Mu’ath Kasasbeh alive.

N. Korea seen excavating tunnel for far more powerful nuke test
At this point it's all engineering, materials and supply. The Norks have solved the science end of this. We can look forward to more tests with larger devices. They're now limited by their supply of fissile material and the most critical technology.
North Korea is continuing to excavate a tunnel at its nuclear test site, which may support an explosion up to 14 times more powerful than its last test, according to U.S. analysts Saturday.

Satellite imagery of the Punggye-ri nuclear test site in the northeast shows that substantial tunnel excavation is continuing at the North Portal, where the last four of the five underground nuclear tests by the North were conducted, according to the analysis posted at 38 North, a website run by the U.S.-Korea Institute at Johns Hopkins University's School of Advanced International Studies.

"The continued tunneling under Mt. Mantap via the North Portal has the potential for allowing North Korea to support additional underground nuclear tests of significantly higher explosive yields, perhaps up to 282 kilotons (or just above a quarter of a megaton)," said the article written by Frank Pabian, a Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) fellow, and David Coblentz, an earth and environmental science expert at Los Alamos National Laboratory.

The North's latest nuclear test on Sept. 9, 2016, is estimated at 15-20 kilotons yield. One kiloton is equivalent to 1,000 tons of TNT.

They said that after the test, new tunneling activity has only been observed at the North Portal while activity at other portals had either been sharply reduced or already halted.

"This suggests that the North Portal will very likely continue to be used as the primary test location, possibly because it provides the greatest amount of overburden and would likely be the most capable of containing the largest possible explosive yields, potentially up to just above a quarter of a megaton." they said.

Meanwhile, John Schilling, an engineering specialist at the U.S. Aerospace Corporation, said in an interview with Radio Free Asia on Saturday that North Korea is likely to successfully launch an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) within the next two years and deploy it by 2020.

In the past decade, Pyongyang has stepped up efforts to develop a nuclear-tipped long-range ballistic missile capable of reaching the continental U.S.

Policeman gunned down, others wounded in Tunisia
[MIDDLEEASTMONITOR] Militants possibly linked to ISIS holy warriors attacked a checkpoint in a town in southwest Tunisia early this morning, killing a policeman and wounding three others, security officials said.

Two gunnies were also killed in an exchange of fire during the attack in Kebili, which lies on the edge of Tunisia’s southern desert region, said the officials, speaking on condition of anonymity
... for fear of being murdered...
The attackers opened fire on a police patrol that had set up a checkpoint at a roundabout in the town, one security official said.

Security forces were combing the area to search for gunnies who may have escaped following the attack, a second official said.

Tunisia has been trying to tackle an bad boy threat after suffering major attacks by ISIS-inspired gunnies in 2015 and early 2016, including deadly assaults on tourists at a museum in the capital Tunis and on a beach in Sousse.

Militants occasionally target patrols and checkpoints, but attacks in towns and cities are rare. Sunday’s was the first in an urban area since a kaboom against a bus carrying presidential guards in Tunis in November 2015.

German police detain suspect over night club attack threat in Offenburg
[DW] German police said Sunday that they had detained a male suspect in his 20s after an attack threat against a night club in Offenburg appeared online.

Police launched a major operation in the southwestern German town on Saturday night, upping security in the town center, the main train station and on the border with La Belle France. Security was particularly tight around Offenburg's night clubs and one was cleared out by authorities.

"A dance club in the industrial area was evacuated in the early morning hours for security reasons," police said in a statement. They did not name the club that had been threatened.

Police questioned two male suspects aged between 20 and 25 years old, the statement said. Police searched one of the suspect's apartment but did not find any weapons that could have been related to the attack threat.

One of the men was later released after police ascertained that he was not connected with the online threat. Police have not yet released further details about the content of the threat or a possible motive.

The police operation in Offenburg directly follows another security operation in the German city of Essen. On Saturday, police closed a shopping mall after security services warned of a possible terror attack.

On the sidelines of the event, Gunaratna spoke extensively to journalists on challenges of Bangladesh in countering terrorism and on the rehabilitation of terrorists, which he believes is essential in stopping the spread of these ideologies.

Two ANA Bases Under One-Month Taliban Siege In Baghlan
[Tolo News] Two big bases of Afghan National Army (ANA) in Baghlan-e-Markazi district have been under Taliban siege for nearly one month, but still no force has come to help the surrounded soldiers, a member of the Baghlan Provincial Council said on Sunday.

Council members say the Taliban have besieged the bases for three weeks. ANA operations could not break the siege and the soldiers inside the bases are suffering difficult days and nights.

"Mangalha and Alavuddin military bases have been surrounded by Taliban for one month. Taliban have warned the people living in the villages near to the bases to evacuate the area. According to our contact with the ANA soldiers, they are in a very difficult situation," said Mohammad Zarif Zarif, member of the council.

Villagers say the Taliban have closed all the roads and their houses have been destroyed in fights between Taliban and security forces.

"There has been three weeks of ongoing war in our village. All the houses have been destroyed, animals have died inside stables and people cannot work on the fields. Security forces cannot advance even one step," said Arbab Shamsullah, tribal elder.

"Taliban have closed all the roads. They even do not let us to bring food inside the village, because they say that we take the food to the soldiers. People are facing numerous challenges," said Haji Abdul Hamid, resident of Baghlan-e-Markazi district.

Residents of Baghlan province urged government to put an end to the current fighting.

"We urge the government to finish the war in our region. They should defeat Taliban if they can, otherwise, the security forces should remove their bases from our region. People have lost what they had," said Taza Mir, resident of Mangal village of Baghlan-e-Markazi district.

TOLOnews tried to get Baghlan local government comment in this regard, but failed to do so.

French elections: Beleaguered Fillon hit by fresh scandals
[BBC] Beleaguered French presidential candidate Francois Fillon was put on the defensive again over the weekend following two fresh controversies. Mr Fillon's party apologised on Saturday for tweeting a caricature of rival Emmanuel Macron that Mr Fillon admitted was anti-Semitic.

And on Sunday it emerged that he had accepted two suits from a friend worth €13,000 (£11,500; $13,900). France sets a limit of €4,600 that any individual can donate to a candidate. "A friend gave me suits as a present in February. So what?" Mr Fillon said in an interview with French news daily Les Echos on Sunday.
People give me $6500 suits all the time... Ummm... No, they don't but I suppose they could... I'm trying to stretch my imagination to see it, but it's not working. Sorry.
Perhaps they're both the same size, and the friend was cleaning out his closet? Second hand clothes aren't worth more than 50% of the original price, if I recall correctly, unless it is a collectible Chanel or something.

Kenyan police nab 6 terror suspects in coastal town
Kenya’s anti-terrorism police officers are on Saturday holding six terror suspects in the coastal town of Malindi. A contingent of special units raided a house on Friday night and managed to arrest the six suspected of funding the Al-Shabaab terror group.

“Six people arrested and seven mobile phones recovered that are held for several suspicious cash transfers to individuals linked to Al-Shabaab in Somalia.

Malindi police commander Muchangi Matawa said the six are being interrogated by anti-terrorism police officers detectives over alleged links to the group.

According to police the suspects are part of terror network behind the recruitment of youth to join the Al-Shabaab militant group. The suspects include women believed to be targeting young girls who are lured to cross over to Somalia to become Al-Shabaab brides. Kenya authorities are in higher alert over possible attacks by the Somalia-based militant group.

Last year, the police warned that at least six Al-Shabaab fighters had been dispatched from Somalia to carryout the attacks on unspecified locations in Kenya. According to police, the Al-Shabaab militia is planning to use suicide bombers to execute the attacks targeting key government facilities and popular public places which the police said should be put under vigilance to foil any possible attack in Malindi.

Italy deports Tunisian suspected of links to Berlin attacker
[MIDDLEEASTMONITOR] Italia has expelled a Tunisian who may have had links with the man who killed 12 people in Berlin when he ploughed a truck through a busy Christmas market, the Italian interior ministry said today.

The Tunisian, a resident of Latina near Rome, was identified in investigations launched in the wake of the 19 December Berlin attack, the ministry said in a statement.

The 37-year-old man was the owner of a telephone whose number was found among the contacts of Anis Amri, the Berlin attacker, it said.

Amri killed 12 people when he ploughed a truck through a Christmas market in Berlin. He was killed in a shootout with police near Milan on 23 December.

Amri came to Italia by boat in 2011 and spent almost four years in jail there before being ordered out of the country in 2015. He then went to Germany who attempted to have him deported back to Tunisia, but Tunis delayed issuing his paperwork leading to Amri eventually being released.

The expelled Tunisian’s phone number was also linked to a Facebook profile pointing to his support of so-called jihadist ideology and connections with people supporting ISIS myrmidons, the ministry said.

With Lebanon No Longer Hiding Hezbollah's Role, Next War Must Hit Civilians Where It Hurts, Israeli Minister Says
[Haaretz] Lebanese President Michel Aoun
...a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hizbullah...
paid an official visit to Cairo a month ago, ahead of which he gave a number of interviews to the Egyptian media. Aoun was only elected president after a long power struggle in which Iran and Hezbollah finally held sway, and he spoke about the fact that the Shi’ite organization continues to be the only Lebanese militia that refuses outright to disarm.

Hezbollah is a significant part of the Lebanese people, Aoun explained. "As long as Israel occupies land and covets the natural resources of Leb, and as long as the Lebanese military lacks the power to stand up to Israel, [Hezbollah’s] arms are essential, in that they complement the actions of the army and do not contradict them," he said, adding, "They are a major part of Leb’s defense."

Brig. Gen. Assaf Orion from the Institute for National Security Studies wrote recently that Aoun’s comments were a "lifting of the official veil and tearing off of the mask of the well-known Lebanese reality ‐ which widely accepted Western diplomacy tends to blur. The Lebanese president abolishes the forced distinction between the ostensibly sovereign state and Hezbollah. Thus, the Lebanese president takes official responsibility for any actions by Hezbollah, including against Israel."

Aoun’s declaration also tallies with the facts on the ground. At a meeting of the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee this past week, Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman said that the Lebanese army is now "a subsidiary unit of Hezbollah."

Brett McGurk, the US envoy to the anti-IS coalition said on Sunday that fighters with the Islamist group were "trapped. Just last night, the 9th Iraqi army division ... cut off the last road out of Mosul,"

"Any of the fighters who are left in Mosul, they're going to die there," McGurk said. "We are very committed to not just defeating them in Mosul, but making sure these guys cannot escape."

After "fully liberating" the city's east from IS in January, US-backed Iraqi forces moved onto western Mosul, with a renewed push in March.

65,000 people have fled Mosul in the past two weeks alone, according to the International Organisation for Migration

"Mosul's liberation is increasingly in sight albeit with increasingly difficult fighting ahead," McGurk said, adding that Iraqi forces were retaking "some of the most difficult ground that we knew would have to be reclaimed. They're doing this in a dense urban environment facing a suicidal enemy that's using civilians as shields."

Test meant to screen teachers instead weeded out minorities
[ABCNEWS.GO] New York education officials are poised to scrap a test designed to measure the reading and writing skills of people trying to become teachers, in part because an outsized percentage of black and Hispanic candidates were failing it.

The state Board of Regents on Monday is expected Monday to adopt a task force's recommendation of eliminating the literacy exam, known as the Academic Literacy Skills Test.

Backers of the test say eliminating it could put weak teachers in classrooms. Critics of the examination said it is redundant and a poor predictor of who will succeed as a teacher.

"We want high standards, without a doubt. Not every given test is going to get us there," said Leslie Soodak, a professor of education at Pace University who served on the task force that examined the state's teacher certification tests.

The literacy test was among four assessments introduced in the 2013-2014 school year as part of an effort to raise the level of elementary and secondary school teaching in the state.

Leaders of the education reform movement have complained for years about the caliber of students entering education schools and the quality of the instruction they receive there. A December 2016 study by the National Council on Teacher Quality found that 44 percent of the teacher preparation programs it surveyed accepted students from the bottom half of their high school classes.

The reformers believe tests like New York's Academic Literacy Skills Test can serve to weed out aspiring teachers who aren't strong students.

But the literacy test raised alarms from the beginning because just 46 percent of Hispanic test takers and 41 percent of black test takers passed it on the first try, compared with 64 percent of white candidates.

A federal judge ruled in 2015 that the test was not discriminatory, but faculty members at education schools say a test that screens out so many minorities is problematic.

"Having a white workforce really doesn't match our student body anymore," Soodak said.
Having an illiterate workforce does.

#7  46 percent of Hispanic test takers

41 percent of black test takers

64 percent of white test takers

So hire the Hispanic and blacks that passed and improve the quality of students educations. The above is not as bad as the article makes it out to be.

The problem is not so much the quality of the teachers (although it is a factor) as it is the students, their parents and the support the students get at home.

My solutions, get rid of many, if not most, of the "experts" that seems to not have anything to do with actual teaching. Go back to the three "R"s (the basics) with additional core subjects as warranted. Give strong support to home, including home visits, to enlist parents support and enforcement in their children education.

China-Japan-Koreas
Tillerson to visit S. Korea this week
U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson will stay in South Korea for two days from March 17 during which he will meet with Foreign Minister Yun Byung-se and other senior government officials.

Tillerson's talks with Yun will be held on the first day of his stay in Seoul. They are expected to discuss mostly the North's nuclear threat and cooperation in applying more pressure and sanctions on Pyongyang, according to the officials. This marks the second face-to-face meeting between the two following brief talks in Bonn, Germany, on the sidelines of a gathering of foreign ministers from Group of 20 nations last month.

Tillerson's visit to South Korea is a part of his Asia tour which will also take him to Japan and China.

This came amid heightened tensions in the region in the wake of North Korea's successive missile launches and the killing of Kim Jong-nam, the estranged half brother of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un. In particular, what messages Tillerson is to provide during his stay is drawing keen attention in that the diplomatic landscape surrounding the Korean Peninsula appears to be getting more cloudy and complicated.

South Korea currently remains at odds with Japan over a girl statue symbolizing Tokyo's wartime sexual slavery of Korean women. It faces stepped-up retaliation from China over the planned deployment of a U.S. missile defense called THAAD on its soil.

Experts said that Tillerson's trip to Seoul could also be a chance for the U.S. to reaffirm its strong commitment to alliance with South Korea at a time when Seoul is going through a leadership vacuum caused by the ouster of President Park Geun-hye.

Iraq
Iraqi forces retake third of west Mosul
[NEWS24] Iraqi security forces have seized control of more than a third of west djinn-infested Mosul

, a commander said on Sunday, after a week of steady gains in their battle to retake the city from the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. group.

Fierce fighting has shaken Mosul in recent days as thousands of US-backed Iraqi soldiers and police battle to reclaim the country's second city.

A renewed push against the jihadists launched last Sunday has seen ISIS forced from several neighbourhoods and key sites, including the main local government headquarters and the famed Mosul museum.

Speaking to AFP on Sunday, Staff Major General Maan al-Saadi of the elite Counter-Terrorism Service said "more than a third" of west Mosul was now under the control of security forces.

"The battle is not easy... we are fighting an irregular enemy who hides among the citizens and uses tactics of booby-trapping, kabooms and jacket wallahs, and the operation is taking place with precision to preserve the lives of the citizens," said Brigadier General Yahya Rasool, a spokesperson for Iraq's Joint Operations Command, (JOC).

Still, he said, ISIS resistance "has begun to weaken in a big way".

ISIS seized Mosul in mid-2014 when the jihadist group swept across areas north and west of Baghdad, taking control of swathes of territory and declaring a cross-border "caliphate" in Iraq and neighbouring Syria.

Backed by a US-led air strikes and other support, Iraqi forces have since retaken much of the territory they lost.

The operation to recapture Mosul - then the last Iraqi city under ISIS control - was launched in October.

Hundreds of thousands of civilians remain trapped in Mosul.

Northwest of Mosul advancing Iraqi forces also took the infamous Badush prison, announcing on Saturday they had uncovered a mass grave containing the remains of hundreds of people executed by the jihadists.

The Hashed al-Shaabi paramilitary forces found "a large mass grave containing the remains of around 500 civilian prisoners in (Badush) prison who were executed by (ISIS) gangs", the military said.

‘Absurd criminal case’: Russian woman pardoned by Putin over text message freed
[HINDUSTANTIMES] A Russian woman pardoned by President Vladimir Putin
...Second and fourth President and sixth of the Russian Federation and the first to remain sober. Putin is credited with bringing political stability and re-establishing something like the rule of law, which occasionally results in somebody dropping dead from polonium poisoning. Under Putin, a new group of business magnates controlling significant swathes of Russia's economy has emerged, all of whom have close personal ties to Putin. The old bunch, without close personal ties to Putin, are in jail or in exile or dead...
after she was sentenced to seven years in jail for treason over a text message about movements of military equipment was released Sunday, local media reported.

Shopkeeper Oxana Sevastidi, 46, was convicted in March 2016 over an SMS sent eight years earlier about a train carrying military hardware towards neighbouring Georgia, months before Russia fought a brief war with the country.

Footage broadcast on state television
... and if you can't believe state television who can you believe?
from outside Moscow’s Lefortovo prison, where Sevastidi was being held, showed her hugging her mother before grabbing her personal items and getting into a car with her lawyer.

The Supreme Court is set to rule on her case on March 15. Sevastidi’s defence has hailed the pardon but insisted she would fight until her conviction was quashed.

"We are preparing for the Supreme Court hearing which on Wednesday will consider this absurd criminal case and, I hope, put an end to it," lawyer Ivan Pavlov wrote on his Facebook page Saturday.

Putin’s pardon, issued on March 7, said it was motivated by "principles of humanity".

Sevastidi, who hails from the Black Sea city of Sochi, told Meduza news site in December that she photographed military equipment transported on a train in April 2008, months before the August conflict.

Sevastidi said she exchanged messages with a Georgian acquaintance about what she had seen.

Sevastidi was detained by the FSB security service in January 2015 and convicted after a trial held behind closed doors.

Two women arrested for failing to inform police of their friend who left for Somalia
[Standard Digital (Kenya)] Two women who failed to inform police of their friend who had traveled to Somalia to join terror group al-Shabaab
... the Islamic version of the old Somali warlord...
have been locked away
Drop the heater, Studs, or you're hist'try!
Eunice Wanjiku Wachira and Caroline Mwangi are expected to be charged in a Nairobi court Monday, for failing to disclose information relevant in securing the arrest and prosecution of a person who travelled to Somalia, which is a terrorist designated country, contrary to the Prevention of Terrorism Act 2012. Wanjiku and Caroline were arrested for failing to report to the police that Eric Njoroge Wachira, had left for Somalia to join the al-Shabaab. The mother to Eric had confided in a friend that, Eric had left for Somalia and she was very frustrated because her efforts to reach Njoroge in Somalia through the phone were futile.

According to the Act, it is an obligation for every Kenyan to report to the local administration, the police or relevant authority a person suspected to be engaged in terror activities. Therefore, failure to disclose information relevant in securing and prosecution of a person engaged in terror activities is an offence.

Police say Caroline who is the girlfriend to Eric met him in August 2015 in Nyeri town. Eric was a business man selling second hand shoes and a bhang peddler in Nyeri town. Caroline was aware of Eric’s plan to go to Somalia and she allegedly facilitated his travel to Somalia in November 2016. The two kept in touch through the phone, where Caroline updated Eric on the situation back at home.

Eric’s journey to Somalia to join the al-Shabaab must have started when he took a keen interest in literature and videos that promoted violent extremism in the social media. According to police, Eric Isolated himself and most of the time, he would lock himself in his room while watching the video or reading the books.

Later on, the friend learnt that Eric had converted to "Islam", however he noted that there was something not right about his behavior, because he suddenly began to isolate himself from friends, became disobedient and also he stopped doing things that he was passionate about like sports, social events and education among others. Eric talked of martyrdom and fighting for the course of Allah. He even talked of relocating to a Moslem country in order to find peace.

'Prepare for the worst': Tuesday nor'easter threatens N.J. with blizzard
[NJ] Most of New Jersey is now under a winter storm warning, and the northeast corner under a blizzard watch, as a powerful late-winter nor'easter sets its eyes on the state.
It'll be springtime in a week or so...
I think that's the traditional snow-removal plan in Washington DC...
The National Weather Service placed a winter storm warning in effect from 8 p.m. Monday to 6 p.m. Tuesday for northern New Jersey and eastern Pennsylvania.

A winter storm watch had been in effect much of Sunday for most of New Jersey, except Cape May County. Snowfall projections, however, remain the same, with large sections of North Jersey and Central Jersey positioned to get hit with possibly up to 18 inches of snow from late Monday night through early Wednesday morning.

Iraq
Group of Sunni Arab leaders asks for Kurdish Peshmerga help in Hawija ops
[RUDAW.NET] A group of Sunni Arab leaders is calling on Masoud Barzani to authorize Kurdish Peshmerga forces to assist their 1,200-strong force in efforts to rid ISIS from Hawija.

"We do have the Peshmerga and [Kirkuk] suburban police to ask [to assist] in re-controlling Hawija. We hope Hawija is going to be re-controlled. Therefore, we call upon the president of Kurdistan to try to attempt and engage in serious work to liberate it as soon as possible." Masrour Naji, chief of the al-Jabouri tribe, said to Rudaw after meeting with several other Sunni Arab leaders in Kirkuk on Sunday.

It was reported last month that some 1,200 Sunni tribal fighters have been trained by the Iraqi government to take part in the long-anticipated offensive to recapture the ISIS stronghold of Hawija, about 55 km south of Kirkuk.

"The Sunni people of the area have some opposition to the participation of some of the forces; the Iraqi government to some other. And Kurdistan wants the Peshmerga’s participation. They are all impediments. Removing them is up to the political parties not the Peshmerga," Rebwar Omer, a Peshmerga commander said.

Shiite Hashd al-Shaabi paramilitaries in southern Kirkuk have prepared three brigades for the Hawija Operation. Under and Iraqi law passed in December 2016, Hashd al-Shaabi is under the umbrella of the Iraqi army and answers to its commander in chief, Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi.

"We will not withdraw since Hashd al-Shaabi is now holding its position like other forces and in this way it fights terror. It is a military force that received votes from the parliament. Therefore, no force could tell us ’do not participate," Zaki Mohammed, a Hashd al-Shaabi official, said to Rudaw.

Hawija city lies about 55 kilometers southwest of Kirkuk and is from where deadly October attacks were directed against Kirkuk in which more than 100 people were killed. Hawija has been under ISIS control for more than two years.

Iraqi forces, supported by local Sunni militia, opened a front against ISIS in the Hawija Plains in November 2016.

Kirkuk city and security officials have long complained that the Hawija operation have been delayed with no real justification; thereby underestimating the security of the city.

"More than 75,000 civilians remain trapped in Hawija where they are subjected to severe food and medicine shortages, torture, and ’crimes of genocide," the Iraq Security and Humanitarian Monitor in mid-February reported Deputy General of the Arab Council Ismail Hadidi as saying.

Israel Thwarts Hamas Moves To Spread Influence In West Bank
[JPOST] Security agencies have uncovered several Hamas, the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood, networks run by university students in the West Bank, the Shin Bet announced on Sunday.

Muhammad Aazi, 20, a Hamas operative from village of Jamma’in, 16 km. southwest of Nablus, was tossed in the slammer
Yez got nuttin' on me, coppers! Nuttin'!
along with Noor Aldin Ghaith, 22, from Hebron, for planning shooting attacks against Israeli targets, the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) said.

During the investigation it was discovered that the two men had planned to shoot at civilian and military vehicles traveling on main roads in the area. Aazi and Ghaith had reconnoitered the road and had planned to scatter nails on it, to cause vehicles to stop so they could attack them.

The weapons bought to carry out the attack were seized during the investigation.

The cell had also built bombs to throw at Israelis, and tested devices. The two were also planning to plant an explosive canister at the entrance to a village and explode it against a military vehicle, the Shin Bet said.

More recently, members of a Hamas cell that carried out extensive terrorism activity in Judea and Samaria were arrested, the agency said.

During the investigation it was discovered that members of the cell, residents of Biddu, 6 km. northeast of Jerusalem, planted bombs, threw Molotov cocktails at soldiers operating in the area, and were involved in the attacks on the town of Har Adar, 15 km. west of the capital, in 2015. An additional investigation found that the cell members had planned to perpetrate more shooting attacks.

In addition, a number of students from Bir Zeit University, north of Ramallah, were detained last month in a joint operation of Shin Bet, IDF and Israel Police, for their role in rallies, recruiting and financial activities for Hamas-affiliated Kutla Islamiyah student union, in a bid to consolidate the terrorist group’s hold on the school’s campus.

Bir Zeit University is known as a Hamas stronghold, and the terrorist organization won its student elections two years in a row.

Since the latest wave of Paleostinian violence, numerous attacks by Hamas supporters and members have been thwarted in the Judea and Samaria.

In January, security forces arrested 13 Hamas operatives operating in the West Bank’s Binyamin region who were attempting to establish terrorist infrastructure and undermine the Paleostinian Authority.

"The Shin Bet together with the IDF will continue to work with determination to thwart and foil terrorist activities," the agency said.

Ankara Threatens 'Harshest' Retaliation After Minister Barred From Rotterdam
[Haaretz] The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
told the Netherlands on Sunday that it would retaliate in the "harshest ways" after Turkish ministers were barred from speaking in Rotterdam, as a row over Ankara's political campaigning among Turkish immigrants colonists escalated.

The Dutch government, which is set to lose about half its seats in elections this week as the anti-Islam party of Geert Wilders makes strong gains, said the ministers' visits were undesirable and it would not cooperate in their political campaigning in the Netherlands.

"If you can sacrifice Turkish-Dutch relations for an election on Wednesday, you will pay the price," Turkish President Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him...
said in a speech at an awards ceremony in Istanbul.

"I thought Nazism was dead, but I was wrong. Nazism is still widespread in the West," Erdogan said. "The West has shown its true face."

Speaking to news hounds before a public appearance in the northeastern French city of Metz, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said Turkey would continue to act against the Netherlands until it apologises.

Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte said he would do everything to "de-escalate" the confrontation, which he described as the worst the Netherlands had experienced in years.

But he said the idea of apologizing was "bizarre".

"This is a man who yesterday made us out for fascists and a country of Nazis. I'm going to de-escalate, but not by offering apologies. Are you nuts?" he told a morning talk show.

In a statement issued early on Sunday, Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim said Turkey would retaliate in the "harshest ways".

Protesters also gathered outside the Dutch Embassy in Ankara and consulate in Istanbul, throwing eggs and stones at the buildings.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Lebanese Cardinal slams Hezbollah
[Gulf News] In a bold interview with SkyNewsArabia, Maronite Patriarch Mar Bisharah Al Rai has slammed the powerful Iran-backed Hezbollah group for its involvement in the Syria war.

He said the decision to participate in the war, which helped bolster Syrian President Bashar Al Assad, contributed to division in Lebanese society.

"Hezbollah disregarded Leb’s dissociation policy," the Cardinal said, the first time he has spoken with such openness on the issue.

From the onset of the war, Lebanese politicians collectively agreed on a policy to not involve themselves in the Syria war -- in an effort to spare the war-ridden country from further conflict.

Al Rai’s comments come at a time where GCC relations with Leb are at an all-time low, due to Iran’s growing influence over its politicians and institutions.

In January, Lebanese President Aoun travelled to Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
and met with King Salman
...either the largest species of Pacific salmon or the current Sheikh of the Burnin' Sands, Cutodian of the Two Holy Mosquesand Lord of Most of the Arabians....
Bin Abdul Aziz, on his first presidential foreign visit.

Lebanese hoped the visit would restore vital economic ties and that Saudi Arabia would give Leb $3 billion (Dh11 billion) to purchase French weapons for the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) which it had previously withheld after Jibran Bassil, the Minister of Foreign Affairs who heads the Hezbollah-allied Free Patriotic Movement
Despite its name a Christian party allied with Hizbullah, neither free nor particularly patriotic...
, voted against the unanimous Arab League
...an organization of Arabic-speaking states with 22 member countries and four observers. The League tries to achieve Arab consensus on issues, which usually leaves them doing nothing but a bit of grimacing and mustache cursing...
and Organisation of Islamic Cooperation resolutions that condemned the January 5, 2016 Iranian attacks on Saudi missions in Iran.

However,
Caliphornia hasn't yet slid into the ocean, no matter how hard it's tried...
a planned follow-up visit by King Salman to Leb was cancelled after Aoun praised Hezbollah and backed the militia’s right to bear arms alongside the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) during an interview with Egyptian TV.

Al Rai’s comments reveal widespread fear in the country over Hezbollah’s arms -- the Cardinal called the situation "abnormal".

Aside from maverick former Justice Minister Ashraf Rifi, other Lebanese politicians notably did not comment on Al Rai’s interview, reflecting a deep fear in the country to speak out against Hezbollah.

Rifi, a Sunni politician from Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
who does not miss an opportunity to lash out at Iran and Syria, backed the Cardinal and emphasised the importance of upholding the illusory sovereignty of the nation.

"Hezbollah’s weapons are being used by Iran as a tool for chaos to achieve expansionist ambitions," he said, adding that they directly negate the interests of Leb, its stability and its relations with Arab states.

Carlos the Jackal faces trial again in France
[Gulf News] Carlos the Jackal, the perpetrator of headline-grabbing attacks in the 1970s and early 1980s, goes on trial in La Belle France on Monday for the deadly bombing of a Gay Paree shop more than 40 years ago.

With attention in La Belle France now focused on the ever-present threat of myrmidon attack, the trial in Gay Paree will reach back to a time when Europe was repeatedly targeted by ruthless groups sympathetic to the Paleostinian cause.

Carlos, 67, a Venezuelan whose real name is Ilyich Ramirez Sanchez, describes himself as a "professional revolutionary" and was dubbed ’Carlos the Jackal’ by the press when he was one of the world’s most wanted terror suspects.

The nickname came from a fictional terrorist in the 1971 Frederick Forsyth novel, ’The Day of the Jackal’, which was turned into a popular film.

Arrested in the Sudanese capital Khartoum in 1994 by elite French police, Carlos is already serving a life sentence for the murders of two coppers killed in Gay Paree in 1975 and that of a Lebanese revolutionary.

He was also found guilty of four bombings in Gay Paree and Marseille in 1982 and 1983, some targeting trains, which killed a total of 11 people and injured nearly 150.

Carlos will be judged by three judges for the attack on the Drugstore Publicis, a busy shop once located in Saint-Germain-des-Pres in the heart of Gay Paree.

In the late afternoon of September 15, 1974, a grenade was lobbed into the entrance of the store, killing two men and leaving 34 people injured.

Georges Holleaux, a lawyer representing the two widows of the men killed and 16 other people affected, said they relished the chance to finally see Carlos in court.

"The victims have been waiting so long for Carlos to be judged and convicted. Their wounds have never healed," he said.

Carlos’s lawyer, Isabelle Coutant-Peyre, said the trial was a waste of time and money.

"What exactly is the point of having a trial so long after the events?" she said.

Carlos denies the charges, which include "murders carried out with a terrorist organization".

Al Watan Al Arabi magazine published an interview in 1979 in which Carlos is said to have admitted that he had thrown the grenade into the shop.

He has since denied giving the interview.

The prosecution says the attack was linked to a hostage-taking at the French embassy in the Dutch capital The Hague that had begun two days earlier, on September 13, 1974.

The Japanese Red Army, a communist myrmidon group which had close ties to the Popular Front for the Liberation of Paleostine in which Carlos was the head of "special operations", was demanding that French authorities free one of its members who had been locked away
Maw! They're comin' to get me, Maw!
at Gay Paree Orly airport two months early.

The prosecution says Carlos orchestrated The Hague hostage-taking and carried out the Gay Paree grenade attack to force the French government to give in to the Japanese group’s demands.

He achieved his aim -- the Japanese suspect was released and was able to travel to Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic...
with other members of The Hague hostage-taking team.

The case against Carlos is also based on witness testimony from his former brothers-in-arms, including Hans-Joachim Klein, a German to whom the Venezuelan is said to have admitted he wanted to "apply pressure to get the Japanese man freed".

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
Donetsk water plant repairs delayed by artillery

Repairs on the Avdievka water filtration plant were delayed once again due to fighting between Ukrainian forces and Russian backed rebels, according to Russian language news accounts.

Avdievka is a northern suburb of Donetsk city, and has been controlled by Ukrainian forces since the summer of 2014.

The filtration plant has been shut down numerous times since February 15th, when artillery exchanges between the two combatants forced the shutdown. Since that time the plant has been fired on repeatedly, according to rebel media, either damaging the power lines that operate the plant or driving out plant personnel because of security concerns.

The filtration plant serves all of Avdievka, as well as parts of Donetsk and nearby villages on both sides of the line of contact.

The latest outage is because of security concerns for electrical repair crews.

Physical damage to the plant has been limited to the building and to power lines which service the plant. Rebels say that last Saturday, Ukrainian forces fired small arms fire on vehicles carrying plant workers as they evacuated the water plant. Ukrainian artillery has been blamed for damage to the power lines feeding the plant in Yasinovataya.

Yasinovataya became a major issue between the two warring parties after Ukrainian forces moved into a gray zone in western Avdievka last year, making the line of contact much closer to the west. Artillery fire from Ukrainian forces in Yasinovataya has been nearly a daily feature since that time.

Now Ukrainian media is claiming that rebel forces fired rocket artillery on Avdievka on Sunday, and it has been rebel artillery fire that cut off Avdievka electricity. Ukrainian media said rebel forces fired a total of ten rockets into the town. The day before, Ukrainian media accused rebels of firing tank main gun fire on a high rise building in Avdievka. Rebels claimed that the Ukrainians staged the attack for the benefit of Ukrainian electronic media.

According to a news account in lb.ua, two Ukrainian soldiers were killed and five more were wounded in the fighting Sunday.

The Ukrainian KIAs died in a firefight in southern Donetsk. Although the exact location wasn't disclosed, Ukrainian media reports are that a firefight took place in Marinka between a Ukrainian fixed position and a rebel probe.

Rebel artillery hit Ukrainian positions in the southern Donetsk region at Nikolaevka, while rebel mortars stuck Ukrainian positions at Slavnoye, Gnutovo, Pavlopol and Berezovoye.

Near Donetsk city, rebel mortars hit Ukrainian positions at Butovka mine, Luganskovo and Nevelskovo.

In Lugansk, rebel mortars were reported hitting Ukrainian positions at Ekaterinovka, Bolguslaskovo, Novoaleksievka and Popasnoye.

According to a report compilation, firefights and mortar attacks have been taking place at several points near Donetsk city including at the Donetsk airport, the Petroskiy district, Yasinovataya, Staromykailovka, Zaitsevo and Spartak. Heavy artillery fire and ground combat have been taking place at Marinka, Yelenovka and Dokuchaevsk.

Near the Sea of Azov, Ukrainian artillery hit several locales including at Novoazovskoye, Sakhanka and Kominternovo.

The Donetsk ministry of defense reported that the March 4th seaborne attack by elements of the Ukrainian Navy aboard two small motor boats resulted in two Ukrainian dead and three wounded. One boat was heavily damaged in the attack and had to be towed back to Mariupol.

Correction
On a Sunday March 5th news article entitled "Donetsk water plant shuts down after only one day ", in the last paragraph I said that a Ukrainian navy boat detachment sailed off the coast of the Sea of Azov at Dokuchaevsk and began firing heavy machine guns on rebel forces.

The actual location was the village of Bezymennoye. Dokuchaevsk is close to 25 kilometers inland.

The error has been corrected.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Israeli schoolgirls' killer: Israelis are human garbage
[NEWS24] A Jordanian soldier who killed seven Israeli schoolgirls in a 1997 shooting rampage was unrepentant after his release from prison on Sunday, lashing out at Israelis with harshly derogatory remarks.

Ahmed Daqamseh, who had spent 20 years in prison, was given a rousing welcome in his home village in northern Jordan after his release. He was greeted by chanting supporters who kissed him on the cheek and raised a photo of him with the caption, "Welcome to the hero Daqamseh."

Daqamseh opened fire on a group of Israeli students at the scenic "Island of Peace" border post in March 1997, killing seven and wounding seven.

A Jordanian military court deemed Daqamseh mentally unstable and sentenced him to life in prison, rather than imposing the death penalty. Jordan had announced several days ago that Daqamseh would be released this week, after completing his term. In Jordan, life terms are not open-ended, and prisoners can be released after 20 years.

Upon arriving in his hometown, Daqamseh expressed no regrets, telling a news hound that Israelis are "human garbage".
Such a lovely man, along with all those who cheered him, there and elsewhere.
Israel's government had no comment on Sunday.

Israel and Jordan co-operate closely on security matters, including in the battle against Islamic extremism, even if their 1994 peace treaty remains widely unpopular in Jordan where many residents have Paleostinian roots.

Yisrael Fatihi, whose 13-year-old daughter Sivan was killed in the attack, told Israel Radio on Sunday that he had been informed by the Israeli embassy in Jordan last week that Daqamseh's release was imminent.

"It is unfortunate, but this is the situation," Fatihi said.

After the shooting, Jordan's King Hussein - the late father of the current king, Abdullah II - rushed to Israel and paid condolence visits to the girls' families, a gesture that touched many Israelis at the time.

Fatihi recalled Hussein's condolence visit, saying he and his family had been sitting on the floor in mourning at the time and that the monarch knelt down next to them. "We told him we really appreciated his visit," Fatihi said.

Peace
Nurit, his wife, told The News Agency that Dare Not be Named her daughter was a "very happy" child who "took everything easily." She said she misses "her laughter, her smile, her joy of life".

"Despite the murder we are for peace," she said.

Daqamseh was released from prison before dawn on Sunday.

By Sunday afternoon, he was receiving well-wishers in his clan's meeting hall in the village of Ibdir, about 120km north of the capital of Amman.

Jordanian security forces set up checkpoints along the access road to the village, preventing journalists from entering with cameras.

In comments broadcast on the Al Jazeera satellite TV channel, Daqamseh appeared to be unrepentant. He said that those who criticised him for killing maidens were "hired pens" and admonished them to "fear God".

Standing in a street dressed in a suit and tie, he said, "Paleostine needs every single Arab and Moslem."

Asked by the Al Jazeera news hound about a purported Israeli plot to kill him, Daqamseh said: "They [Israelis] are human garbage that other peoples got rid of by dumping them in Paleostine, the most sacred place after Mecca."

'Burned and buried'
"This garbage should be burned or buried," he added. "This will happen, if not in our generation, then in other generations."

In a videotaped statement posted online, Daqamseh urged Jordanians not to believe what he called "the lie of normalisation with Israel" and the idea of a two-state solution to the Israeli-Paleostinian conflict.

Keren Ofri Mizrachi, one of the girls Daqamseh shot and maimed in the attack, said his release from prison is a difficult day for her.

She told Israel's Channel 10 TV how he shot her four times from close range while she was trying to escape the carnage. Her twin sister was also shot and maimed in the attack.

"I saw the look of murder in his eyes," she said, adding that his release had brought memories flooding back. It feels like being "maimed again".

"I have chosen to live. I won't allow anybody or anything in the world break me. I am strong, I am a proud Jew. I have a family and children, they are my strength," she said.
Well said.

Harvard compiles fake news website list
The Good News: Rantburg.com ain't on it.
The Bad News: Rantburg.com ain't on it.

[WashingtonExaminer] A few conservative critics predicted early on that the recent obsession with fake news would lead eventually to right-of-center newsrooms being lumped with the bad actors.

It looks increasingly likely that those critics were onto something.

Harvard University's library website currently features a page titled, "Fake News, Misinformation, and Propaganda."

The page URL even has the word "fake" in it.

This portion of the library's website, which can be found in the "research guides" section, is intended to give students, "a brief introduction to the spread of misinformation of all kinds and tools for identifying it, and reading the news with a more informed eye," according to the site.

The "fake news" page includes the aptly titled subsection: "False, Misleading, Clickbait-y, and Satirical 'News' Sources (Huge list of fake news sites)."

That subsection links to a massive online database, which lists nearly every legitimate conservative-leaning news groups alongside actual hoax websites.

The Washington Free Beacon, Independent Journal Review, the Daily Caller and the Washington Examiner are all on the list. Each is tagged with derogatory labels, including "clickbait," "bias," "unreliable," "political" or a combination of the four.

The list also includes conservative commentary sites like TheBlaze, RedState and the Weekly Standard.

Russia confirms: Envoy met with Trump, Clinton camps during election
[NYPost] The spokesman for Russian President Vladimir Putin on Sunday confirmed a Kremlin envoy met with members of the Trump campaign during the election to discuss “bilateral relations” – but he also contacted people linked to the Clinton camp.
Both?!?!?! Why bless their little Democratic hearts, that's absolutely ... I'm afraid I can't choose between pitiful and adorable.
Dmitry Peskov, who denied Moscow meddled in the 2016 presidential election, said Ambassador Sergey Kislyak huddled with the campaign staffers as part of his diplomatic duties.

Asked about Kislyak’s meeting with the staffers for Hillary Clinton, Peskov said, the ambassador met with “people working in think tanks advising Hillary or advising people working for Hillary.”

Peskov also rejected allegations that Russian colluded with Trump officials to disrupt the election, saying the US is “self-humiliating” itself by even raising such claims.

But they didn't get the really cool stuff, like the armor.
