The elites really do hate you: Food bill snuck in last minute by establishment gives $1+ billion to Obama
Congressman Doug Lamborn:

Last night, the House of Representatives snuck through a food bill that authorizes President Obama over a billion dollars to "promote global food security." Instead of allowing normal consideration and debate, this bill was rushed through with only a 40-minute debate with no possibility for amendments.

I opposed this bill, and I am disappointed that our leadership would schedule this expensive bill at a time when many Representatives were absent or did not have enough time to fully consider it. This process is a perfect example of the reason so many people in Colorado and around our nation are frustrated with Congress. Backdoor deals and sped-through legislation are not a responsible way to represent the American people.
The elites keep doing everything they can to steal from us to line their pockets

#2  It starts at the top Procopius2k. Forcing a president on them that would veto this crap while replacing congressmen and senators during elections that keep voting for this crap is a start.

Term limits are another with a ban on congressmen becoming lobbyists another.

I really don't have much hope of it happening until the economy really come crashing down and half the country is voting to leave this train wreck... but I still try.

Eco-Sinners In The Hands Of An Angry Gaia
I ran across this link-and-commentary at instapundit, and I'm going to try to duplicate the post and its formatting as best I can.

"FOR THESE PEOPLE, WE ARE ALWAYS ECO-SINNERS IN THE HANDS OF AN ANGRY GAIA:"
Even weirder, they have no intention of actually suffering for their faith. Instead, they want to make you suffer. Al Gore can buy "green credits" like indulgences because he is worth close to a billion. That means he gets to live like a royal, enjoying your suffering as you try to work the new gas can. His mansion is lit up like Versailles, while you squint in the florescent haze of your eco-friendly CFL. It’s suffering by proxy, where they sacrifice their time to watch you suffer as a result of their policies.

What strikes me about it is the utter pointlessness of it. The endless posing and posturing has no end because it has no end point. A faithful Christian at least has the serenity of his communion with God. The Muslim, at the click of the detonator, knows he will be with Allah. Climate change fanatics have nothing but a hopeless misery. Even if all of their policies are enacted, nothing comes of it.
Don’t discount the smug satisfaction the eco-fascist takes in knowing he’s coerced entire cities to ban shopping bags, begin mandatory composting and in bankrupting entire industries, coupled with the Gnostic belief that he can see the world more clearly than those non-believers, whom he views as the equivalent of Holocaust deniers, if not something even worse. All that crony corporatism means he’s got his -- and all the new laws he’s passed are the equivalent of raising the drawbridge up behind him. Not to mention all the exciting cocktail parties with Leonardo, Al, Barry, and the rest of the (private) jet-set in Paris, Davos,
(Hey, what do the Daleks have to do with any of this?)
and Bali. Sure it’s all nihilism -- but nobody said that nihilism couldn’t be awfully swank as well.

Related: EPA Administrator: Climate Change Impacts Your Happiness.

Analysis: True, given that EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy certainly never looks happy, despite having far too much influence over the American economy.
It's basically an entire leaning tower of corruption and privilege, of the sort that Martin Luther and Adam Smith were both rebelling against, but the conservative commentariat is always quick to tell the displaced, dispossessed workers that they have to put up with this sort of thing, because of Ricardo, or because we demand too much equality-of-outcome.

I'm tired of reading 19th century free market platitudes while the Western equivalent of Milovan Dilas' New Class is trying to turn the Western world into a combination of Medieval China and post-closure-of-the-Grand-Council Venice.

The Hildebeest's dismal approval ratings prompt Dem fears
[The Hill] Clinton is now viewed unfavorably by 55 percent of the electorate, according to the HuffPost Pollster average, which tracks findings from 42 different polling outfits. Only 40.2 percent of people view her favorably, according to that average.

An Associated Press/GfK poll released last week also found 55 percent giving Clinton an unfavorable rating. In the most recent Gallup poll, released late last month, her unfavorable number was 53 percent versus only 42 percent who saw her favorably.
Even Democrats acknowledge those findings are a problem.

"They’re pretty bad," said Democratic strategist Brad Bannon, who connected the poor poll numbers to separate findings that show a broad number of Americans don’t trust Clinton.

"The No. 1 reason that her favorability is so bad is that you have large numbers of Americans who say they don’t trust her," he said. "I could make it sound more complicated than that, but that’s really what it is. Voters see her as the ultimate politician, who will do or say anything to get elected."

The Next President Is Going to Be Hated
Everyone hates the sourpuss who says the party is over. The next president will have to tell the American people that a reckoning is on the horizon--and that it is not going to be pretty.

...An adult president is going to have to tell the American people that a mandated equality-of-result economy is fossilized, entitlements are insolvent, the debt is unsustainable, interest rates are going up, the medical system is pure chaos, and people have to get over expecting to live off government, not because it is unethical, but because it is untenable.

White versus White America
h/t Instapundit
Why do the angry white poor and working class support the unlikely populist Donald Trump -- a spoiled bully who made and lost fortunes in part by gaming the system, who seems to take gratuitous rudeness and cruelty as a birthright, whose lifestyle is symptomatic of American excess, and who for the last half-century has embraced no ideology other than Trump, Inc.?

Perhaps it’s because Trump is a phantasm. He is not a flesh-and-blood candidate judged as crude or acceptable on the basis of the usual criteria. His attraction rests on about 100 sound bites over the last year that shattered taboos and attacked elite sacred cows, in a manner that no candidate has done in the past -- or is likely to do in the future. Trumpism is nihilism. A reckless Trump had no political career or social capital to lose, unless one thinks that The Apprentice discriminates against the outrageous and crass, or that the New York real-estate industry blackballs prevaricators.

#1  Trumps appeal lies in the fact that the politicians Republicans have sent to Washington for the past thirty years have been pretend conservatives, who've betrayed them as soon as they've unpacked at the Watergate.

Nobody really cares what Trump's politix are now. The important thing is that he's not a politician.

I don't think Republicans are getting happier watching the convolutions the establishment's going through opposing Trump.
Posted by: Fred || 04/13/2016 9:54 Comments || Top||

#2  Maybe because no one has expressed the desire to be the voice and champion of a large group of people who've been abandoned by both parties in words and deeds. You are looking at fundamental tribal affiliations. You are looking at people who actually see they've been screwed over for everybody else's demands. They're not expressing it specifically, but they're testing the system to see if this still is a democracy (a government in the interest of the majority) or something else. These are the people you demand 'die on that hill' for your power and money. You'll find out you're the nihilist when they decide they're not going to make such sacrifices and everything starts to implode.

#4  Well said Proc. Well said.

Also some of it is because Trump is not 'politically correct' and does not dance the tune the media loves to play them to.

People are tired of 2% of the population dictating that women have to share their restroom facilities with potential perverts and rapist simply because a minuscule number of people 'feel like they are women'. Or that 2% of the population can force people to participate in religious ceremonies which they find deeply offensive or lose their livelihood.

And anyone, anyone, who will stand against that kind of bullshit, even Trump, would seem appealing.
Posted by: CrazyFool || 04/13/2016 10:26 Comments || Top||

#5  I believe Trumps support comes from the fact that both parties pushed for free trade with the knowledge it would guy manufacturing and other blue-collar jobs but then did nothing serious to replace those jobs. Then redifined unemployment to hide the numbers.

Trump went from a joke to a serious candidate when he talked about protecting American jobs. The white poor heard beyond the wall and understood he was standing for them and love him for it.
Posted by: rjschwarz || 04/13/2016 10:39 Comments || Top||

#6  VDH could've saved a lot of effort and simply gone with this:

In sum, the white lower and middle classes are angry, and they are tired of being blamed for the unhappiness of other tribes. In our world, in which uncouth tribal leaders can say almost anything, these whites wanted their own Sharpton or Ramos, and finally got him with Donald J. Trump. As is true of most revolutionary movements, the aggrieved are not as angry at their perceived opponents as they are contemptuous at the enablers of them.

The irony is that it appeared in the National Review.
Posted by: Pappy || 04/13/2016 11:52 Comments || Top||

#7  I think it's less about free trade per se than people think. The average manufacturing business in the US is subject to a multitude of "backwards tariffs" starting with the various carbon taxes and going on from there, and then the displaced workers are told that it's because of Free Trade and their inferior competitive advantage, while Obama and now Hillary ran or are running on putting more entire industries out of business.

When you've sworn to put coal plants and coke plants out of business you've sworn to put what's left of the steel business out of business, and the knock-on effects put anyone who makes anything out of anything in this country at a severe disadvantage.
Posted by: Thing From Snowy Mountain || 04/13/2016 12:09 Comments || Top||

#8  It seems to me it's not so much that all those who claimed to be conservative got to Washington and threw off their masks, but that when they got there they were not a moajority even in their own party, and had to make compromises to get anything done. We are in a transition period, as the increased fiscal and somewhat social comservatism of most of the country works its way up from local and state political control to the federal level, which is why so many Republican politicians are so much younger than their Democratic counterparts. Note, this also means the older Democratic and more centrist Republican politicians have experience the conservative youngsters lack, and are therefore better at accomplishing their goals... for a while, at least.
Posted by: trailing wife || 04/13/2016 12:17 Comments || Top||

#9  Trump is an idiot. His words prove it out. Anyone voting for or supporting him should be asking themselves why. I have a feeling most of the support is that they want a wrecking ball taken to DC and the eternal insiders there from both parties.

The problem is, supporting Trump is akin to throwing a tantrum, not thinking and acting rationally. Its a purely emotional response, all about your feelings, your anger.

Isnt this what people criticized Obama voters for - voting emotionally, failing to examine thoroughly the candidate and his obvious flaws? Doing things like doxxing delegates and sending the death threats because Trump's henchmen called them Gestapo?

If you support Trump, you are part of the problem. You're stuck on stupid. You need to examine the real stances fo the remaining candidates, the performance of these candidates in office, and on the campaign trail, and actually use your brain.

Don't do stupid things because you are so angry that it clouds your judgement.

Posted by: Sheba Glirong2372 || 04/13/2016 13:50 Comments || Top||

#10  Fed, don't drag this place into the sewers of Trumpkin land. Do you truly support a man who likes political opponents to the Gestapo, who killed millions? Who consistently attracts and tacitly condones threats of violence against political opponents? Who whines about a delegate system whose rules were open for all to see - and then whines about being out thought and out hustled by his opponent when its Trumps own failure to do the same that cause him to lose delegates?

Wake up - there is adult work to be done.

#11  Both parties are in revolt. This is a test, absolutely. It this was any other country but America there would be a violent revolution. For the moment, our revolution is through the democratic process. If the republican party is dumb enough to play with the rules and remove the guy who has the popular vote by the people and play the delegate game all bets are off. I am tired of being called the problem in America. I served this nation for almost 30 years. Payed all my taxes without shelters and other dodging crap. Now I'm a bigot because of the color of my skin and no matter what I do I can't change that. I also seem to need to pay reparations for slaves. Wake the hell up, I'll have no part of that. My Irish relative came to the USA as indentured servants, white slaves baby, where the men in my family served, fought and some died fighting in he Penn artillary, so I owe no one! My Republican Party has approved every Obama agenda item. They are traitors. They all need to go and the folks inside the beltway need to come visit those that are paying for their greed and corrupt deals. Yes I'm pissed and DC needs a full housecleaning, to include the staffs and the rest of those that don't seem to realize they are destroying our nation. Most third world countries have more integrity than the whole of DC combined. And all the 300 pound brains in DC need to realize I am a moderate out here in the flyover states. It will get very ugly if they play too many more games.

I raised a wonderful family, stuck on stupid, paid my bills, taxes, ran an orphanage, stuck on stupid. Served in three different combat zones, stuck on stupid. And what I want is my vote to count, not some prearranged rule designed to end run the voter who is stuck on stupid. I want my government to act responsibility, balance the budget, and provide for the defense of our great nation. But I guess I am stuck on stupid for choosing the only candidate that wants the same thing. Next time you decide to call me a fucking idiot you should get past your tantrum and emotions and understand who you are calling fucking stupid, you attitude IS the problem. #23  Rj, you might be right. Im not sure about Cruz. Might be just me. He seems to pander to the far right. Might be just a little to far for me. I like the tea party, but I'll admit I just can't pin what it is about him I don't like. If he were to win the convention with the popular vote supporting him I would support him. If he gets it without that I can not support him. America will be just like every other soviet nation. Vote how you want but we will tell you who to vote for and will change the rules to get what party leaders want in spite of the voters.

On the dem side I see the same thing. The deme are so tired of the clintons that they will support a socialist/communist. People are tired of business as usual in DC. Maybe 4 years of trump will get congress to realize our opinions matter.

Obama has succeeded quite handsomely in his attempt to "fundamentally transform" America, thanks in no small part to that emotional support.

#29  This is my humble, but semi scientific opinion, for what it is worth.

The whole election has evolved to Kabuki Theater. Donald Trump, whether you like him, disdain him, or hate him, superman or fraud, is the only person that is shaking up the establishment parties.

These parties dem and pub, want the status quo. They will maintain power and control of the money by ANY MEANS necessary. Whether to smear Trump, play their insane rules, fix the election, cancel the election, go after the threat with prejudice. Trump's candidacy is an existential threat to their position of power. We are talking TRILLIONS of dollars here.

On top of that NOBODY talks about the runaway government debt, and the existential threat it poses to our existence as a country. Many great nations and empires have collapsed just the same way. Axe Ask Louis XVI about how overbearing taxation worked out for him.

This country, with few exceptions, has transitioned power without bloodshed. Now you have an electorate that feels used, betrayed, and robbed. How polite for how long will they remain?

We have one last chance to do it right. If we do not, then all bets are off. The government will go bankrupt and collapse, but on the way they will do and take anything to keep the status quo---for them.

What will you do when that happens? Do you have a plan B? This country is in an existential crisis. The crisis will be resolved one way or another. It may or may not be to your liking.

Gov't to Grow: Beest to propose creation of Immigrant Affairs office
[Reuters] Democrat Hillary Clinton on Wednesday will propose the creation of a new national Office of Immigrant Affairs should she win the White House in November, as she seeks to woo minority and immigrant voters in New York less than a week before the state's primary.

The office would coordinate policies and programs among federal agencies and with state and local governments, according to an aide.

In contrast, Republican candidates have largely called for stricter immigration rules. Republican front-runner Donald Trump has called for building a wall along the border with Mexico as well as a temporary ban on immigration by Muslims.

The New York primary on April 19 could either help former secretary of state Clinton consolidate her status as the Democratic front-runner, or hand a significant victory to rival Bernie Sanders, the Vermont senator seeking to defy expectations and win the party's nomination for the Nov. 8 election.

Both candidates are now campaigning across the state, looking to win over New York's diverse population, including voters who come from immigrant families. Around 19 percent of the state is Hispanic or Latino, according to the U.S. Census.

With 247 pledged delegates at stake, the state is among the most significant nominating contests left on the calendar before the July convention.

#1  Reuters (aka Rooters for Terrorists) - you can tell by the liberal use of 'Immigrant' to describe Illegal Aliens and border-jumpers.

I take this to mean that the so-called 'Immigrant Affairs' office will have nothing to do with actual Immigrants but everything to do with providing boodle, and forcing state and local governments to provide boodle to Illegal Aliens.

If it was run like the Indian Affairs or Veterans Affairs offices one might expect it to drive them to self-deport. But sadly I'm afraid it will be very good at what it is intended to do - shackle even more vote-slaves to the government teat.

#2  I wouldn't mind an immigration affairs office dedicated to promoting assimilation as the path to success in America. We've got enough worthless offices as is that we just rename one without having to hire anybody.

The rest of the worthless offices (Education department, HUD, etc) can be reassigned to the Illegal Immigrant Affairs office (that is Border Patrol) and secure that shit like every other nation in the world.

$1.48 Trillion: Government Collects Record-High Taxes in First Half of FY 2016
[Free Beacon] Inflation-adjusted federal tax revenues hit a record $1.48 trillion for the first half of fiscal year 2016, but the federal government still ran a $461 billion deficit during that time, according to the latest monthly Treasury Department statement.

Treasury receipts include tax revenue from individual income taxes, corporate income taxes, social insurance and retirement taxes, unemployment insurance taxes, excise taxes, estate and gift taxes, customs duties, and other miscellaneous items.

In the first half of fiscal 2016, which included the months of October, November, December, January, February, and March, the amount of taxes collected by the federal government outpaced the first half of all previous fiscal years, even after adjusting for inflation. The 2016 fiscal year begins on Oct. 1, 2015, and runs through Sept. 30, 2016.

The federal government collected $1,476,218,000,000 in the first half of fiscal year 2016. Most of the $1.48 trillion came from individual income taxes, which comprised almost half of that total, totaling $675 billion.

One year ago, the government collected $1.42 trillion in inflation-adjusted revenues in the first half of fiscal year 2015. The Treasury Department has been tracking these data on its website since 1998. In that fiscal year, the federal government collected $1.11 trillion in inflation-adjusted revenue in the first half of that fiscal year. This means that since 1998, tax revenues have increased 33 percent.

Although the federal government brought in a record of approximately $1.48 trillion in revenue in the first half of fiscal 2016, according to the Treasury, it also spent approximately $1.94 trillion, leaving a deficit of approximately $461 billion.

Hildebeest to speak at Sharpton's National Action Network Convention
[NYT] Last year, Hillary Clinton called the Rev. Al Sharpton to wish him a happy birthday, a bit of outreach that she did not tell reporters about, though Mr. Sharpton did.

On Wednesday, Mrs. Clinton, still battling her way through a primary against Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont, will make a more high-profile connection with Mr. Sharpton, appearing at his National Action Network convention in Manhattan.

Mrs. Clinton has relied heavily on black voters to bolster her against Mr. Sanders in several nominating contests. And while she has known Mr. Sharpton for years, the firebrand reverend and MSNBC host is more closely aligned with President Obama than with the Clintons.

The visit always made sense as a practical matter. But it has taken on new contours as Mrs. Clinton tries to brush back social media-stirred outrage about a racially charged joke that Mayor Bill de Blasio of New York made in a skit that she appeared in at an event on Saturday.

Muslim woman prevented second Paris terror attack by tipping off police
A woman who tipped off French place about the hiding place of the mastermind of the Paris attacks has spoken out for the first time and says it is 'important that the world knows I am a Muslim myself'

The woman, who is hiding from other real Muslims now living under police protection, said she accompanied Hasna Aitboulahcen, the cousin of Abdelhamid Abaaoud, to the latter's hiding place in a wooded area near Aubervilliers.

When she realised Abaaoud was planning a second terror attack, she tried to get Aitboulahcen drunk so she couldn't help him to carry it out. She then told police of his plans.
Aren't Muslims supposed to avoid alcohol? Maybe martyrs are exempt?
The woman told The Washington Post that she was a surrogate mother to Aitboulahcen and felt guilty over her death.

"It's important that the world knows that I am Muslim myself," she said.

"It's important to me that people know what Abaaoud and the others did is not what Islam is teaching." she said from her safehouse.

Aitboulahcen stayed with the woman for three years but went through periods of drug and alcohol abuse and would disappear for weeks at a time.

Her behaviour apparently changed when she began to message someone in Syria - believed to be Abaaoud - and soon she had started wearing a niqab and talking about a potential marriage.

It is believed that she was unaware of Abaaoud's involvement in the Paris attacks until they met in the woods.

Abaaoud told Aitboulahcen to find accommodation for him and his associate and to buy them smart suits and shoes, which it is thought that he intended to use as a disguise for a second attack on Paris's business district.

Abaooud later called Aitboulahcen to say that he would kill her if she spoke to anyone about their meeting. It was then that the woman tried to get Aitboulahcen drunk. The next day she called emergency intelligence and explained everything that was said.

Later that week, French police raided the St Denis flat Aitboulahcen rented for Abaaoud. He was killed when Chakib Akrouh's suicide vest detonated, causing the ceiling to cave in and crush him to death.

White House won't commit to declassifying secret 9/11 report
[Wash Times] Ahead of President Obama’s trip to Saudi Arabia next week, the White House sidestepped questions Tuesday about whether the president supports declassifying 28 pages omitted from a joint commission’s report on the 9/11 terrorist attacks that reportedly implicate the Saudis.

White House press secretary Josh Earnest said Mr. Obama "certainly has confidence" that Director of National Intelligence James R. Clapper will consider the documents for release as part of an ongoing declassification review. But he wouldn't say whether the president has read the secret pages, or whether Mr. Obama believes they should be made public.
We'll be arriving Clapper Station in 3 minutes. Clapper Station just ahead. This is where truth gets off.
The president's spokesman said Mr. Obama is hopeful that the question will be resolved before he leaves office.
He then added, "there is Classified, then there is Classified."
The 28 pages are believed to detail links between Saudi Arabian officials and the 9/11 hijackers -- 15 of 19 of whom were Saudi citizens. A CIA watchdog report last year found no evidence that the Saudi government "knowingly and willingly" supported al Qaeda's attack.

But many lawmakers who have read the 28 pages say they point to heavy Saudi involvement in the 9/11 attacks. Members of Congress are permitted to read the documents, alone, but aren’t allowed to copy them.

"I think it is implausible to believe that 19 people, most of whom didn't speak English, most of whom had never been in the United States before, many of whom didn't have a high school education -- could’ve carried out such a complicated task without some support from within the United States," Sen. Bob Graham, Florida Democrat, told 60 Minutes on Sunday.

Reps. Walter Jones, North Carolina Republican, and Rep. Stephen Lynch, Massachusetts Democrat, are trying to have the documents declassified.
If we could only find someone willing to email the documents to Secretary Clinton.
The president's visit to Saudi Arabia on April 21 will be focused on U.S. cooperation with the kingdom and other Gulf states in the fight against the Islamic State in Syria and Iraq. Implementation of the administration's nuclear deal with Iran, which has angered the Saudis, is also likely to be on the agenda.

29 German Soldiers Have Joined ISIS, Army May Contain Dozens Of Jihadist Sympathizers
German counter-intelligence believes that at least 29 former soldiers from the country have left to join Islamic State in Syria and Iraq. An internal report also revealed that 65 active soldiers are being investigated for alleged jihadist sympathies.
How many of the 29 are named 'Hans' or 'Dieter'?
The report was undertaken by the German military counter intelligence service (MAD), which was seen by the DPA news agency. The documents show that at least 29 former German soldiers have fled to the Middle East to join Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL).

Social Democratic Party (SPD) MP Hans-Peter Bartels, who is responsible for oversight of the army, said on Tuesday that "Islamism isn't the main problem of the Bundeswehr (German Army), however, he did mention that "it represents a real danger that we have to take seriously."

As many as 22 soldiers have been identified within the Germany Army of being Islamists since 2007, with 17 being sacked. The remaining five had reached the end of their service without killing anyone when the investigation had been concluded.

According to DPA, MAD has investigated a total of 320 suspected cases of Islamism since 2007.

Alarmed by the revelations, the German Defense Ministry now wants MAD to take greater steps to ensure that jihadists are not infiltrating the German Army. This will include every prospective soldier being investigated for links to anti-Constitutional movements. However, this would need the law to be changed.

At present, only those joining sensitive areas of the military have had to undergo background checks, while ordinary soldiers have not had to go through any vetting process.

"Just like other fighting forces, the Bundeswehr can be attractive for Islamists who want to acquire weapons training," Bartels said. "But to my knowledge there is so far no systematic push by Islamist organizations to infiltrate the army."

German domestic intelligence has also warned that there is a threat of future attacks in German cities from newly arrived migrants, amid fears that newly-arrived migrants are being radicalized.

"We see the security situation as very serious, though we have no immediate intelligence on planned attacks in Germany," the head of the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution, Hans-Georg Maassen, told Die Welt newspaper in a comprehensive interview released on Sunday. His office acts as Germany’s main counter-intelligence and homeland security agency reporting to the Interior Ministry.

"IS is willing to carry out attacks on Germany and German interests," he said, adding that in IS propaganda German cities are placed next to Paris, London and Brussels ‐ all previous targets of large terror attacks.

The homeland security chief said airports and railway stations, as well as large-scale public events such as open air fests, were the most likely targets for potential attacks. In addition, Maassen stressed that "we’ve seen many times that those [German nationals] who returned from Syria had links to planning attacks in Germany."

A recent study conducted by the International Centre for Counter-Terrorism (ICCT) and published on April 1 says that between 720 and 760 Germans are believed to have traveled to join IS.

#1  In Florida Donald Trump only got 45% of the vote but (because of Florida rules) Trump came away with 100% of the delegates.
This means that 55% of the voters in Florida did not vote for Trump but their votes ended up going to Trump anyway.
The voters don't even know who the delegates are that will be sent to represent them.
If you did not vote for Trump in Florida your vote now means nothing. You have neither a candidate nor a delegate that you selected.

I much prefer the Colorado system where the voters choose the delegates who will represent them. Even if your preferred candidate drops out (Like Rubio did during Arizona early voting) you still have your chosen delegate to represent you. So your vote is not wasted.

Contrary to what the media wants you to believe, Colorado delegates were not chosen by the GOP elite. There were 7 local elections and a State election. More than 65,000 people voted in Colorado to select their 34 preferred delegates.

#2  I think the whole problem is the Colorado Republican Party did a piss-poor job of getting out and explaining things to voters. Granted Trump has had since August of last year to get on top of this, or his "Best people" to get on top of this, or even SAY something. But the GOP in Colorado should still have done a better job of explaining.

For that matter this is nothing more than Trumps way of getting out votes for NY, if he truly gave a damn he would have attended the State Convention and railed against the party insiders to their faces. He didn't, he doesn't care, he's after NY and this will be forgotten in 2-4 weeks the same way Wisconsin has been forgotten.

German train crash controller was playing game on phone
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] A signal controller at the center of an investigation into a German train crash that killed 11 people admitted on Tuesday to playing a game on his mobile phone while in charge on the day, the public prosecutor’s office said.

The man was detained on Tuesday after developments in the investigation into the head-on train collision in Bavaria in February, which was Germany’s biggest train crash since 1998. He faces possible charges of causing death through negligence.

The public prosecutor’s office in Traunstein, near the border with Austria, said investigations had found the man "turned on his mobile phone during his shift on the morning of the accident, started an online computer game and played actively... until just before the collision of the trains."

The man denied being distracted by the computer game. But the prosecutor’s office said the time period in which he was found to be playing the game meant it could be expected that he was not paying attention to a critical traffic intersection.

The controller gave the trains an incorrect signal and then hit the wrong buttons when issuing a distress signal, meaning it was not heard by the train conductors, the prosecutor’s office said.

The trains, carrying about 150 people in all, crashed at high speed on a 6-km (4-mile) stretch of track between the spa town of Bad Aibling and Kolbermoor, near the Austrian border.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
ISIS orders Kurd members to kill other Kurds
ERBIL – Leadership of the radical group of Islamic State (ISIS) has ordered its own Kurdish militants to either carry out suicide attacks against opponents or slaughter the Kurdish Peshmerga fighters captured by the group during confrontations in northern Iraq, Kurdish official sources reported on Tuesday.

The terror group aims at showing the Kurdish insurgents, while killing their peers from the Peshmerga forces, to send a strong message to the Kurds to comply with ISIS orders and help the group facilitate plotting attacks inside the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, according to Kurdish analysts.

Head of Relations and religious coexistence in the Ministry of Awqaf in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, Mariwan Naqshbandi, said Tuesday: “The jihadi leaders have recently put two options before the group’s Kurdish members. They [Kurdish militants] must choose, either to carry out suicide operations against the Peshmerga forces in Iraq and Kurdish forces in Syria or slaughter the Peshmerga captives at the hands of ISIS.”

The source pointed out that the terror group demanded its own Kurdish militants to film slaughtering the hostagesــ apparently to send a message to the Kurdish people.

“This decision has led many of the militant Kurds to escape the group’s ranks and head to one the European countries in a bid to preserve their lives,” the Kurdish official reported, pointing out that the group’s behavior confirms its loss of confidence in its Kurdish members.

Naqshbandi told ARA News that nearly 50 Kurdish militants remained in the ranks of the hardline group, as many others have been executed on charges of ‘high treason’.

Speaking to ARA News, Kurdish writer Newzat Ibrahim said that ISIS clings to this move [ordering Kurdish members to either kill Kurdish hostages or carry out suicide operations] because it lost trust of its own Kurdish gunmen during the last few months.

“Although it has received painful blows in the last period by the US-led coalition forces and allied Kurdish Peshmerga forces, ISIS struggles to preserve its territory of control in both Syria and Iraq,” he argued.

Since the anti-ISIS military campaign began, around 300 Kurdish militants, who had already joined the ranks of the terror group, were killed by the Peshmerga forces and the US-led coalition airstrikes.

Iran denies having received S-300 missiles
Iran's Foreign Ministry dismisses the reports that Iran has received S-300 missiles from Russia.
They're holding out for the S-500's...
The ministry's spokesman Hossein Jaberi Ansari said the media quotes from him a day earlier were "imprecise" in making claims to that effect, ISNA news agency reported Apr. 12.

On Monday, Ansari told a press conference that the first phase of a series of agreements between Tehran and Moscow to deliver the missiles had been accomplished. Iranian media, however, quoted him as saying the country had received the first consignment of the missiles.

Iran signed a deal for the purchase of the missiles from Russia in 2007. Moscow has been refraining from delivering the arms so far, although Iran has already paid for them.

MINGORA: Unidentified gunmen killed Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Shangla Muhammad Ilyas and injured two of the police officer's' guards in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's Swat district on Tuesday.

The assailants opened fire on the DSP's vehicle in Mingora's Sabzi Mandi area, where he was on a visit, leaving him and two of his guards seriously injured, police said. The gunmen fled the scene of the attack.

The DSP and his guards were taken to a nearby hospital where the senior police official was declared dead by doctors.

Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) spokesperson Muhammad Khurasani claimed responsibility for the attack in an email sent to journalists but police and law enforcers are yet to identify the culprits.

The attack comes as Operation Zarb-i-Azb is two months into its final phase. Inter-Services Public Relations claims at least 252 militants have been killed and 160 severely injured as security forces clear militancy-hit areas in Shawal Valley and North Waziristan Agency.

At least five major counter-terrorism military operations were carried out in Swat and Shangla from 2007 to 2009. Operations Rah-i-Haq I, II and III targeted militancy in both Swat and Shangla, Operation Rah-i-Rast took place in Swat, and Operation Black Thunderstorm took on militancy in Buner, Lower Dir and Shangla.

Punjabis and Arabs among foreign terrorists fighting in Afghanistan: MoD
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The Ministry of Defense (MoD) said the regional intelligence agencies and terrorist groups are imposing on the Afghan nation and have a critical role in the ongoing violence in the country.

A statement by MoD said the snuffies are deployed to Afghanistan with full financial and military support under the name of holy war.

MoD in its statement further added that Chechens, Punjabis, Arabs, Uzbeks, Uyghur and other foreign snuffies are actively participating in the war in Afghanistan and are continuously killing innocent Afghan civilians.

The statement also added that incidents like Nangarhar

attack and various other terrorist attacks shows that the hard boy groups are the enemies of Islam and Afghanistan as they have no mercy on children, women and elders.

The ministry strongly condemned the suicide kaboom in Nangarhar province and said the leadership of the ministry offers their condolences to the families of the victims and promised that the Afghan forces will remain firm in defending the country and maintain peace and stability.

No further details were given on claims regarding the regional intelligence agencies and terror groups role in the Afghan war.

However,
death is not the end. There remains the litigation over the estate...
the Afghan officials have long been criticizing Pakistain for harboring the Afghan hard boy groups as they receive full support from Pakistain’s military intelligence, Inter Services Intelligence (ISI).

Afghan police arrest men appearing in child sexual abuse documentary
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The Afghan police have tossed in the slammer
Please don't kill me!
two men appearing in a documentary film about the sexual abuse of children in Afghanistan, local officials in Balkh said.

The two men appeared in a documentary prepared by a Russian TV Channel about Bacha Bazi, sexual abuse of children.

Provincial police chief Syed Kamal Sadat said the two men, Jabar and Jamil, who are also famous as Raees, have been arrested after they appeared in the documentary film.

He said the men were arrested after appearing in the film that is harming the national identity of the Afghan people.

The documentary released last month focuses on the stigma of Bacha Baazi in Afghanistan which continues in parts of the country despite the act has been outlawed by the government.

According to documentary, the young boys are normally recruited by influential individuals, taking advantage of their poverty and other social issues the young boys face, including the enormous amount of money needed for the marriage.

The documentary findings shows the boys are receiving the cost of their wedding from their owners after they reach the age adolescence.

One of the men who has been allegedly arrested says the boys should be about 12, 13, or 15 years old to be recruited as a Bacha ‐ a term usually used to call the children recruited for dancing and other sexual abuse.

He said the business owners "support" their boys until their "sell-by-date" expires, at about 25. "When a boy is older, we make their life better. We buy the bacha clothes, pay for their wedding when they’re no longer wanted. We feed them well, we prepare all their food for them. We do everything!" he says in all honesty."

The documentary also reveals the sexual abuse the young children are subjected to, including painful sexual offense at the hands of their owners. "At first, I didn’t know much about it, I thought it was just a game," he told RT, adding that "sex can hurt badly too, but money is important," said one of the boys who was first offered to become a bach in the age of 12.

Boko Haram's birthplace now "relatively safe": Nigerian official
[SHANGHAIDAILY] Maiduguri, the capital city of Nigeria's northeastern state of Borno and the birthplace of Islamist group Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
, is enjoying relative peace, the Borno state governor said.

Kashim Shettima on Tuesday said Maiduguri, termed by him as Boko Haram's "headquarters", has become a "relatively safe haven" in the whole of the state.

Maiduguri has in the past suffered several deadly attacks blamed on Boko Haram. Multiple suicide kabooms in January and March this year in areas near Maiduguri killed at least 91 people.

It is expected that by the end of this year, most internally displaced persons in other parts of the state could return to their homes in Maiduguri, Shettima said.

The governor said ten months ago that "one could not travel for 10 km without encountering murderous Moslems (Boko Haram bully boys)" in Borno state.

"But now Boko Haram has been so decimated," he said on Tuesday but added it did not mean Boko Haram had been annihilated in the restive state.

Boko Haram was founded in Maiduguri in 2002. It launched its campaign of violence in 2009 and has since killed more than 10,000 people mostly in northeastern Nigeria.

The Nigerian army has in the past year retaken large areas previously under Boko Haram control and freed hundreds of its hostages.

Two Russian pilots killed in Syria helicopter crash
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Two Russian military pilots were killed when their helicopter crashed near the central Syrian city of Homs, the defense ministry said on Tuesday, adding that the aircraft had not been under fire.

"Two crew members died," the defense ministry said in a statement.

The crash of the Mi-28 attack helicopter happened in the early hours of Tuesday, the ministry said, adding the bodies had been recovered and brought to Russia's Hmeimim air base.

"According to a report from the crash site, the helicopter was not fired at," the defense ministry added, saying experts were looking into the reasons of the accident.

The crash takes Russia's official combat corpse count in Syria to seven.

Turkey strikes at ISIS targets after rockets hit border town
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Turkish artillery units on Tuesday shelled ISIS targets across the border in Syria, officials said, hours after rockets fired from Syria struck a Turkish border town, wounding eight people.

Two rockets hit the town of Kilis early in the day in the third such cross-border incident at the town in the past five days.

One rocket struck a guesthouse while the second landed on an empty field near a bus terminal, the state-run Anadolu Agency said. The Kilis governor’s office said eight people were hurt and two of them were at death's door.

Authorities evacuated children from a nearby youth center that has been turned into a temporary school for Syrian refugees, the report said.

’s military routinely retaliates to rockets or shells that land on Turkish territory. On Tuesday, artillery units fired at ISIS targets around the town of Azaz, in northern Syria, Anadolu reported.

The agency, citing unidentified security sources, said the targeted ISIS positions were located around the villages of Sawran, Dabiq, Akhtarin and Ehtemlat and added that the "intensive shelling" was continuing.

Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said the Turkish military had responded to rockets "immediately in line with the rules of engagement."

"We are determined to take every step that is necessary," Davutoglu said.

The wider province of Kilis borders areas in Syria that are controlled by ISIS, Syrian Kurdish militia or anti-government Syrian rebels.

4 Kurds wounded in mortar attack
(IraqiNews.com) Kirkuk – A security source in Kirkuk province said on Tuesday, that four elements of the Peshmerga were wounded in a mortar shell attack south of the province.

The source said in a statement received by IraqiNews.com, “A mortar shell launched by ISIS had fallen on the village of Tal Maghaz in the district of Daquq (35 km south of Kirkuk), resulting in the injury of four elements of the Peshmerga,” adding that, “A force from the Peshmerga transferred the injured to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.”

26 people arrested in Kirkuk

[Rudaw] At least 26 people were arrested over the course of the last 12 days near Kirkuk province, a security official told Rudaw on Tuesday.

“12 of those who are arrested were previously wanted for links to terrorism,” Smko Mohammed, the spokesman of Kirkuk security forces (Asayesh), said in a press conference.

“A band of 8 people were also arrested on the charge of drug trafficking,” Mohammed added.

Mohammad added that another four were arrested for stealing $24,000 and gold from a house.

Two other people were also arrested on charge of spreading violent activities.

Kirkuk's police have already broken up several Islamic State (ISIS) sleeper cells which have carried out terror attacks and abducted civilians.

Kurdish Peshmerga forces and police maintain miles of defensive lines south of Kirkuk and have successfully foiled several ISIS attempts to attack the city.

36 Kurds, Turkish troops die in fighting in border regions
DIYARBAKIR: Six Turkish soldiers and 30 Kurdish militants have been killed in the past 24 hours in attacks and clashes across Turkey’s turbulent southeast region, security sources and the army said on Tuesday.

An estimated 57 people, including eight civilians, were wounded in the attacks, they said.

Thousands of militants and hundreds of civilians and soldiers have been killed since the banned Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) resumed its insurgency last summer following a 2-1/2-year cease-fire and peace process.

The government has ruled out any return to the negotiating table and has vowed to crush the PKK, which is considered a terrorist organization by Turkey and its Western allies.

The security sources said operations in Sirnak province and in neighboring Iraq and Syria had been stepped up and that gunfire and explosions could be heard in the area where earlier one soldier was killed and three others wounded.

A soldier was also killed and four wounded in an explosion in Daglica, a village in Hakkari province near the Iranian border, during clashes with the PKK, the army said.

Two soldiers were also killed during clashes with the PKK in the border town of Nusaybin near Syria, the army said in a statement later on Tuesday.

Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu put the death toll from a car bomb attack overnight that targeted a Turkish gendarmerie base in the town of Hani at two. The army said 47 people, including eight civilians, had been wounded in that attack.

Air strikes ordered on Rajanpur gangsters
LAHORE: Security forces carrying out a joint operation in the riverine area of Rajanpur got a final nod on Tuesday for air strikes to hit the gangsters hiding in a 10km-long piece of tract surrounded by water.

Rajanpur police requested Punjab IG Mushtaq Ahmad Sukhera to provide them two military helicopters for the strikes. The forces also offered the gangsters to surrender before the air strikes.

A senior police official privy to the development told Dawn that law enforcement agencies had halted the ground operation against the hardened criminals for the time being to avoid collateral damage.

“The forces have made last announcements asking women, children and other people to evacuate the island,” he said, adding that hundreds of people, mostly families of the gangsters, had been living in the island bordering Sindh and Balochistan for decades.

The official said police, Rangers, Elite Force commandos and Counter-Terrorism Department personnel were taking part in the operation, codenamed Zarb-i-Ahan.

Mushtaq Sukhera, the Punjab police chief, visited frontline checkposts on Tuesday to review the operational strategy. He was accompanied by police officers from Bahawalpur and Dera Ghazi Khan, DPOs and senior officials of Rangers.

“The mortar attack by Rangers has given a visible support to police against the gangsters,” the IG said.

According to a handout, he said the fight against the ‘evil elements’ of society had entered a final phase and security forces would eliminate them soon.

Police constable shows judge
A hand grenade exploded inside courtroom in Karachi's Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) after a judge asked a police constable if he knew how grenades worked. The constable, instead of explaining his expertise in weapons and grenade handling to the judge, opted to demonstrate practically by promptly pulling out the pin from the grenade.
"One! Two! Five!"
This resulted in a loud explosion, injuring three including the constable and a court clerk.

The blast took place while hearing of a case was underway in courtroom-III. Two policemen and a court clerk were among injured and taken to a nearby hospital for first aid. Court's proceeding was briefly suspended as a result.

According to media reports, the grenade in question was the holy hand grenade of Antioch a locally developed bomb which was brought to the courtroom by Investigation Officer Abid Ali as evidence. The bomb was, reportedly, not defused before production in the court.

The police and paramilitary forces in the vicinity immediately surrounded the area after the explosion fearing a terrorist attack and the security forces were put on high alert.

It is safe to say that now the whole court knows how grenades work, including the curious judge.

According to authorities, the constable who apparently knows how grenades work will be punished severely after he recovers from his injuries.

Europe
Netherlands airport partially evacuated due to security alert
[Iran Press TV] The Dutch security forces have partially evacuated Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport following reports of a suspicious package.

"Police have evacuated part of the airport plaza and the adjacent Sheraton Hotel and placed in durance vile
Maw! They're comin' to get me, Maw!
one person amid a suspicious situation" late on Tuesday, said airport spokeswoman Danielle Timmer, without giving the identity of the suspect.

The heavily-armed masked security forces cordoned off the area and the baggage of the detained man was examined in the presence of an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team, a special unit of the Dutch Armed Forces tasked with diffusing bombs.

Police said that it also conducted a search operation at a bus stop outside the airport's main terminal.

"Part of Schiphol is not accessible due to an incident... For now, air traffic has not been affected," the airport said on its official Twitter account.

The alert reportedly triggered pandemonium as many stranded passengers started to run to safety.

Much of Europe remains on high alert following last month’s terror attacks in Brussels that claimed dozens of lives.
According to The Times of Israel:
Military police front man Alfred Ellwanger told AFP that "around 9:45 pm (1945 GMT) a man was nabbed

on the square in front of the main entrance to the airport’s plaza".

"The bomb disposal squad is also on the scene and they are checking the man’s luggage," he said.

Syrian rebels capture ash-Shabaniya in Aleppo
ALEPPO – Syrian rebel groups on Tuesday launched a major offensive on positions for the radical group of Islamic State (ISIS) and were able to recapture key areas in Syria’s northern province of Aleppo, local and military sources reported.

Subsequent to the rebel-led attack, fierce fighting broke out between the two sides accompanied by artillery shelling by the Turkish army on ISIS positions in Aleppo’s northern suburbs.

Speaking to ARA News in Aleppo, rebel spokesman Saleh Zain confirmed that the rebel groups, including the Sham Corps fighters, the Sultan Murad Brigade and Ahrar al-Sharqiya group were able to carry out a surprise attack against ISIS in the northern suburbs of Aleppo and were able to control the key town of ash-Shabaniya and the surrounding farms after heavy fighting, during which a number of jihadis were killed and some others injured.

“Supported by Turkish fierce shelling on ISIS’s locations in al-Raee and Qara Kopri villages, our fighters [rebels] regained key areas from the terror group,” Zain said. “We aim at taking over the ISIS-held strategic town of al-Raee [35 km to the west of Jarablus].

The Turkish shelling caused ISIS losses in manpower and equipment, according to the spokesman.

“Meanwhile, the US-led coalition forces conducted two air raids on locations for Daesh in the towns of Kadrish and az-Ziyadiya,” a local source told ARA News, using an acronym for ISIS.

ARA News has no precise information about the death toll in ISIS ranks.

Syrian rebel groups have been now on the outskirts of the town of al-Raee, which fell to ISIS two days ago, locals reported.

On Monday, ISIS captured several towns and villages in Syria’s northern province of Aleppo, including Tel Ahmar, ar-Raghibiya, ash-Shabaniya, Shaheen farms and Tel Shaeer west of the al-Raee town subsequent to fierce battles with Syrian rebel fighters from the al-Sham Corps, the First Regiment and the Sultan Murad Brigade, according to military sources.

Last Thursday, Syrian rebel groups, including Islamist factions, announced the expulsion of ISIS extremists from the town of al-Raee in northern Aleppo. However, sporadic clashes continue between the two sides along the borderline with Turkey, according to locals.

The radical group tries to maintain control over some key areas extending from al-Bab city to the bordering city of Jarablus–major pocket for the group in northern Syria.

Car bomb in Lebanon’s Sidon kills Palestinian official
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] A boom-mobile went kaboom! on Tuesday in Leb’s southern port city of Sidon, killing at least one person identified as a Paleostinian official, a security source said.

The source said the blast killed Fathi Zeidan, who headed the Fatah movement in the Miye Miye Paleostinian refugee camp near Sidon.

"His identification card was found near the car which went kaboom!, which was also his," the source told AFP, adding it was unclear if Zeidan had been in the car at the time.

The army’s forensics unit arrived at the scene of the blast and cleared away scorched body parts lying near a car in flames, said an AFP correspondent at the scene.

More than 450,000 Paleostinians are registered in Leb with the UN agency for Paleostinian refugees, and most live in squalid conditions in 12 official refugee camps.

The camps are administered by Paleostinian officials and security forces, rather than the Lebanese authorities.

In recent years, tensions have risen between Paleostinian president the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas
... a graduate of the prestigious unaccredited Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow with a doctorate in Holocaust Denial...
’s Fatah movement and the Jund al-Sham Islamist group, especially in the Ain al-Hilweh camp, which is also near Sidon.

The rival factions in Ain al-Hilweh have clashed several times in the past year, with each side accusing each other of liquidation attempts.

Ain al-Hilweh has become the scene of score-settling between several factions, and a breeding ground for Death Eater groups that have flourished on the back of the poverty afflicting the camp.

ISIS in control of 80%-90% of Palestinian refugee camp near Damascus
[Ynet] According to sources in Syria, ISIS controls 90% of the Yarmouk Paleostinian refugee camp on the outskirts of Damascus.

The camp is a major base for the PFLP-GC, a Paleostinian terror group with close ties to the Assad regime.

Reports say that a truce has been declared in the camp between ISIS and regime fighters, but festivities are still ongoing in the camp between al-Qaeda and ISIS.
According to Rudaw:

They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. (ISIS) has reportedly managed to takeover most of the Yarmouk Paleostinian refugee camp in Syria's capital Damascus.

"[ISIS] began attacking positions of its former ally [Jabhat] Al-Nusra and took control of 60 percent of the camp,"
It's the same order of magnitude as 90%...
the Paleostinie Liberation Organization's (PLO) chief in Damascus, Anwar Abdel Hadi told AFP.

"Some Nusra fighters joined [ISIS's] ranks," he added. "ISIS then besieged the remaining Nusra positions and demanded that they leave the camp."

Yarmouk was once home to 160,000 Paleostinians and Syrians. The ongoing war in Syria has devastated it and forced most of its inhabitants to leave. A mere 6,000 civilians remain in the devastated area along with as many as 3,000 ISIS bully boys.

ISIS had previously overrun large parts of the camp in April 2015, in coordination with Nusra, but were pushed back by armed Paleostinians and forces loyal to the regime of Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad

Europe
Paris terror cell may have planned to strike at Euro 2016 soccer in France
[IsraelTimes] Computer files reveal Islamic State directed Gay Paree-Brussels snuffies changed tack as police net closed in.

The Islamist gunnies who carried out terror attacks in Gay Paree and Brussels had originally planned to target the European soccer championships due to take place across La Belle France this summer, according to a French newspaper.

The opening match and final are to be held at the French capital’s Stade de La Belle France, one of three targets hit during the Gay Paree attacks in November, along with a concert hall and nearby nightspots.

The cell changed direction after the arrest last month of Salah Abdeslam, suspected as a key figure in the Gay Paree attacks, during which 130 people were killed and hundreds more injured, Liberation reported Sunday.

Abdeslam is suspected of playing at least a logistical role in the Gay Paree attacks but escaped and fled back to Brussels, eluding a vast police dragnet for four months.

Liberation said the claims about targeting Euro 2016, due to held from June 10-July 10, were made by Mohammad Abrini during interrogation by Belgian Sherlocks.

Abrini, incarcerated
Book 'im, Mahmoud!
on Friday, had already been indicted over the Gay Paree attacks and has been charged with "terrorist murders" in connection with last month’s carnage in Brussels, Belgium’s federal prosecutor said on Sunday.

Suspected of having left a bag of explosives at Brussels airport, Abrini reportedly confessed to being "the man in the hat" caught on an airport video. Three jacket wallahs went kaboom! themselves at the airport and metro station, killing 32.

The group’s objective was to strike La Belle France again, the Belgian federal prosecutor revealed, but the speed of the police investigation prompted them to "decide hastily" to hit Brussels.

A source in the French police told the newspaper, "It’s not a scoop to learn that snuffies want to strike during the Euro." Security forces were constantly developing attack scenarios and determining how to respond, said the source. "If Abrini’s statements are correct, it just confirms that Belgium is an operational rear base to watch even more intensely," the source said. "Networks and jihadi cells have been meeting there and regrouping constantly over the past ten years."

Having discovered Abrini’s address from the taxi driver who ferried him to Brussels airport, along with the suicide bombers Ibrahim El Bakraoui and Mohammed Najim Laachraoui, police found not only a huge cache of explosives, Liberation reported, but a computer belonging to the El Bakraoui brothers in a nearby trash can that was evidently intended to be picked up by an accomplice.

The computer revealed the contents of a discussion apparently between El Bakraoui and an as-yet unidentified individual in Syria. "It’s a real brainstorming session," an anti-terrorist source told Liberation. "They openly plan operations, discuss when they should hit, where, if all the commandos will need to die together..."

The material provided clear evidence, the source continued, "that this cell continued to maintain links with Syria, to be advised and directed by the Caliphate [Islamic State]," and that was in spite of the death of Abdelhamid Abaaoud -- said to have played a key role in Gay Paree and considered by many to be the head of the group.

Another file on the computer mentioned possible attacks in La Defense, a business district in Gay Paree, and against the radical Catholic group Civitas, the source added.

#1  Here's the complete Euro 2016 schedule. Marseilles being the worst fucking Islamist armpit there is in France, I'm going with an attack there, late group stage match (June 21, Ukraine v. Poland) or the quarterfinal match (June 30) for maximum effect. Honorable mention goes to any matches in Toulouse.

Just because they've managed to ID one cell planning an attack does not mean other cells aren't considering the same thing.

UN agencies step up efforts to aid drought-affected Somalia
The UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the World Food Programme (WFP) are stepping up efforts to help communities in Somaliland and Puntland cope with a severe drought worsened by El Nino conditions, a UN spokesman said here Monday.
And they never seem to get anywhere...
“UNICEF said that these communities have lived through four successive poor rainy seasons and their ability to cope with the drought has been stretched to the limit,” UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric said at a daily news briefing here.

The two agencies are providing an integrated package of life-saving humanitarian assistance to halt the deteriorating food security and rising malnutrition in the affected areas of Somaliland and Puntland, where 385,000 need immediate assistance, while another 1.3 million are on the brink of slipping into a deeper crisis if rains continue to fall and aid is too slow to come.

“The communities have lived through four successive poor rainy seasons, and their ability to cope with the drought has been stretched to the limit,” said the UNICEF representative for Somalia, Steven Lauwerier.

“Our concerted efforts are needed now to save the lives of tens of thousands of children and their families. Any delay from the international community will put their lives further at risk of hunger and disease,” he said.

In addition to increased malnutrition cases and enrolment in nutrition programmes in the most affected areas, malnutrition-related deaths have been reported in areas such as Awdal region bordering Ethiopia.

In response, UNICEF is strengthening services at community level, deploying joint mobile health and nutrition teams to reach pastoral and other hard-to-reach groups. UNICEF is also providing 50,000 households with access to safe water via vouchers in the affected areas, and have repaired seven boreholes.

For its part, the WFP has provided food assistance and nutrition support for 147,000 vulnerable people in the areas worst affected by the drought, and the WFP continues to provide food or cash-based assistance to help families make it through the dry season.

“The people of Somalia know all too well the dangers of drought, but a drought does not have to mean a disaster — the world must recognize that we can save lives if we act in time,” said WFP Country Director Laurent Bukera. “It is absolutely critical that we are able to sustain assistance to the people affected by this crisis, so we can stem the damage of undernutrition for mothers and children before it has lifelong consequences.”
Are the people suspending their support for the crazy cousins who join the Shaboobs, ISIS and al-Qaeda? Let me know when they do.

Europe
Austria Prepares for Migrant Influx at Italian Border
[AnNahar] Austria sparked consternation in Rome on Tuesday with preliminary construction work at the Brenner pass in the Alps to prepare for a possible new influx of migrants colonists coming north from Italia.

A police front man in Tyrol state told Agence La Belle France Presse that work started Tuesday on concrete foundations for a planned control area in a layby off the northbound motorway at the border.

"What is however not being built are additional border management elements, in other words a fence. There is no timeframe for when that will happen," Stefan Eder said.

Vienna is concerned that following the closure earlier this year of the Balkan trail from Greece towards Austria, a new route across the sea from Libya to Italia and then northwards will open up.

Austria's government, which wants to slash numbers claiming asylum in the country this year to 37,500 from last year's 90,000, says it is planning additional measures at several border crossings from June 1.

Brenner is one of the main transport corridors between northern and southern Europe, with some 5,550 lorries passing through on a daily basis, and also has considerable symbolic importance.

"The construction of a barrier is a grave error which violates European rules," Sandro Gozzi, Italia's state secretary for European affairs and one of several senior Italian figures to have spoken out in recent days, said late Monday.

Arno Kompatscher, governor of the autonomous Italian province of South Tyrol, told the Repubblica daily that the Brenner is "a symbol of European unification, of social and economic well-being".

Germany, which took in one million migrants colonists last year, has also expressed concern
...meaning the brow was mildly wrinkled, the eyebrows drawn slightly together, and a thoughtful expression assumed, not that anything was actually done or indeed that any thought was actually expended...
. Deputy foreign minister Michael Roth last week warned against EU members taking "individual national measures".

Austrian Interior Minister Johanna Mikl-Leitner, on a visit to Rome last Friday, said she would "do everything" to avoid having to close the Brenner pass.

"But steps must be taken. Amongst other things the Italian government has to ensure that all migrants colonists are registered in hotspots and housed nearby," Mikl-Leitner said.

Bono seeks US Senate backing for ‘Marshall Plan’
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] U2 lead singer Bono joined diplomats and aid experts on Tuesday to appeal for US Senate support for a “Marshall Plan” to provide aid to the Middle East much like the massive relief the United States provided for Europe after World War Two.
Ohfergawdsake.
“Aid in 2016 is not charity; it is national security,” the rock star, who is also an active anti-poverty campaigner, testified to the Senate subcommittee that oversees foreign aid.
The Muddle East? The place they keep all that oil?
“It could be the best bulwark we have against violent extremism,” Bono said.
And we should listen to a musician precisely why?
Republican Senator Lindsey Graham
... the endangered South Carolina RINO...
, the chairman of the Senate panel, and a few other lawmakers, have called for a multibillion-dollar aid program to address the crisis in the Middle East and the need for aid for millions of refugees fleeing violence in Syria, Iraq and other countries.
Does the idea of "running out of money" never occur to these pinbrains?
They argued that defeating ISIS and other militant groups, and preventing the rise of new ones, will require humanitarian aid and economic development, including trade and loan programs.
Somebody can worry about that after the expenditure of a lot of high explosives.
“I’m a pretty hawkish fellow, but I learned a long time ago... that you are not going to win this war by killing terrorists,” Graham said.
Peshmergas are doing pretty well at it.
“We have a moment now that we haven't had in decades” in terms of political attention to the issue, said Kelly Clements, the Deputy High Commissioner from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.

Senator Patrick Leahy, the top subcommittee Democrat, said he would work with Graham on a plan.
... since like clings to like...
The hearing took place days before the Senate Appropriations Committee is expected to release a new spending plan including cuts in international aid. Congress has also been unable to agree on a relief package to fight the Zika virus currently threatening parts of Latin America.

Graham will have a difficult time winning over his fellow Republicans, who tend to be skeptical about international organizations like the United Nations and generally want tight controls on spending.

For example, Republican Senator Steven Daines said he was concerned about being effective for the American taxpayer. Another Republican, John Boozman, discussed a role for partnerships with private companies.

Bono, who co-founded the ONE international aid organization, has lobbied in Washington and other world capitals for a variety of causes including debt relief, alleviating world poverty and fighting AIDS.

THE Ohio State U Prez sez to disrupters: leave or you're expelled
Students at Ohio State University who attempted to occupy the area outside of president Michael V. Drake’s office late Wednesday night experienced a surprise — and a taste of the cruel, real world — when a senior administrator coolly advised them that they would be arrested and expelled if they didn’t retreat from their “occupied space.”

The protest began — as such protests often do these days — with a set of demands and the promise to remain firmly ensconced at Bricker Hall, Ohio State’s main administration building, until school officials capitulated to the demands.

The occupiers’ motley list of #ReclaimOSU demands includes “complete, comprehensive and detailed access to the Ohio State budget and investments immediately,” divestment from Caterpillar Inc. and Hewlett Packard because of the Israeli–Palestinian conflict and increased purchases of organic, locally-grown food.

At around 3:30 p.m., about 100 students representing #ReclaimOSU and other campus groups (including OSU Coalition for Black Lives) set up an “open mic” protest near Drake’s second-floor office inside Bricker Hall, reports The Columbus Dispatch. (A few faculty members also reportedly turned up.)

The assorted campus dissidents complained for several hours that no one listens to their complaints. They also claimed — in public, outside the president’s office — that Ohio State wants to silence them. Though most of the protesters skipped out of the event by around dinner time, a hardcore group of about two dozen demonstrators stayed until after midnight. They sang. They chanted.

Eventually, Ohio State senior vice president for administration Jay Kasey appeared to inform the radicals that the time had come to decamp from the taxpayer-funded building. Protesters asked what Kasey would happen if they chose to stay.

“Our police officers will physically pick you up and take you to a paddy wagon, and take you to be arrested,” he explained.

“If you are here at five o’clock, our current philosophy is we are going to take you out — escort you out of the building and arrest you. You will be discharged from school also.”

Kasey then confirmed to a demonstrator’s query that “discharged” means expelled.

“I want you to make good decisions. You’re smart kids,” he said. “We simply tell you the truth and you live with your actions.”

School officials concluded that they had the authority to order the protesters to leave — and to arrest and expel them if necessary — because their presence was disruptive and was not authorized.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Public security minister seeks to expand gun permit eligibility
[IsraelTimes] Under Erdan’s initiative, every former IDF combat soldier would be automatically eligible for an arms license
A pack, not a herd...
Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan reportedly announced Tuesday a bid to further relax conditions for gun license eligibility so that all former IDF combat soldiers will be entitled to carry a firearm.

Erdan announced his intention to relax gun permit restrictions at the Israel Security Conference, held in Yad Binyamin in central Israel, Ynet reported.

According to Erdan, former combat soldiers should naturally be entitled to bear arms as civilians due to the dangers surrounding day-to-day life in Israel.

"It makes no sense to take away the firearms of those who serve in reserve units their whole life," he was quoted as saying at the convention. "The intention is that they will carry a firearm [outside the army as well]."

The initiative reflects Erdan’s policy on easing gun permit restrictions.

In October 2015, after Israeli police submitted its professional opinion, he expanded gun permit eligibility so that graduates of elite combat units, as well as all IDF officers above the rank of 2nd lieutenant and non-commissioned officers from the rank of first sergeant and up can obtain a permit, even if they hold those ranks in the reserves. Parallel ranks in the police and other security services may do the same.

Erdan also ordered gun permits be granted to graduates of certain elite units in the security services, as well as certain government security courses, including those that train the security details of ministers and government institutions.

If Erdan’s current initiative to grant permits to all combat soldiers -- even those who didn’t serve in elite units -- is approved, the number of civilians who will be eligible for gun permits will rise to hundreds of thousands, the report said.

Erdan spoke at the convention of a need to balance between gun control policy and the possibility of fast response in event of a terror attack.

"I decided to switch to a balancing policy. It’s a matter of public interest: When a trained and armed individual is at the scene of a terror attack, we can see the difference. [Easing restrictions on gun permits] saves human lives."

Erdan’s initiative would have to be approved by the Finance Ministry to accommodate the budget and staffing requirements it will incur.

Israel Police Commissioner Roni Alsheich also commented on the matter in the convention, underlining the complexity inherent to the easing of gun control.

"When we debated the question of whether or not easing restrictions on gun permits will bolster security, we also had to question if doing so will be an asset or a burden to Israeli society," Alsheich told the crowd.

"Guns can potentially be stolen, and Israeli police are in a constant struggle against this issue. On the other hand, [gun permits] make a difference in terror attacks. It’s not an easy decision to make."

Saudis, mercenaries keep breaching truce in Yemen: Houthis
[Iran Press TV] Yemen’s Houthi
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The Yemeni government has accused the Houthis of having ties to the Iranian government, which wouldn't suprise most of us. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews ...
Ansarullah movement has accused Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
and its mercenaries of constantly violating a truce agreement across the country, saying the Saudis have almost no regard for the UN-sponsored deal less than a week before peace talks.

The Houthi-run al-Masirah TV said on Tuesday that pro-Saudi faceless myrmidons have targeted numerous positions of Houthis as well as civilians while Saudi fighter jets continued pounding positions across Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic...
despite the truce which came into effect at midnight between Sunday and Monday.

The report said Saudi mercenaries had launched rocket attacks on residential places in Jawf, Marib and Sa’ada provinces, all of them north of Yemen. Similar attacks were also carried out in central province of Ta’izz in the east.

It said Saudi warplanes attacked positions in the same provinces plus Sana’a, Amran and al-Hudaydah in the north while a health center in Lahij in southern Yemen came under fire.

Houthis on Monday recorded 39 violations of truce by Saudis and allies, including attacks in Ta’izz and the central province of Baida. They said Saudi warplanes also flew sorties over several areas of Yemen.

Saudi officials responded by describing the breaches as "minor", accusing the Houthis of carrying out attacks on forces loyal to Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, Yemen’s resigned president who enjoys support from Riyadh.

Officials in the UN admitted cases of violations ahead of peace talks scheduled in Kuwait on April 18. UN front man Stephane Dujarric said there were "some pockets of violence" but said that "the cessation of hostilities seems to be largely holding."

Houthi front man Mohammed Abdulsalam warned in a statement on Facebook that "continued military action endangers the grinding of the peace processor and reduce the chances of holding the forthcoming dialogue".

Ansarullah says around 9,500 people have been killed in more than a year of Saudi aggression against Yemen while hundreds of thousands have been displaced across the country. The UN estimates show that fighting in Yemen has put more than 80 percent of the population on the brink of famine.

Europe
Belgian police arrest 3 in Paris terror attacks investigations
[FRANCE24] Belgian police tossed in the clink
Drop the heater, Studs, or you're hist'try!
three people in a Brussels suburb on Tuesday during a new raid linked to the investigation into the November terror attacks on Gay Paree, federal prosecutors said.

"Three people were arrested and held for questioning," a statement said, adding the raid took place in the Belgian capital's southern suburb of Uccle.

It said the raid was carried out "in the context of the investigation that the federal prosecutor opened following the attacks in Gay Paree on November 13" which left 130 people dead and hundreds maimed.

The investigating judge will decide Wednesday whether to continue holding the three, it said, without giving any further details.

The prosecutor's office announced earlier that Belgium had charged two new suspects over the March 22 Brussels airport and metro bombings that left 32 people dead and hundreds maimed.

Gay Paree-Brussels links
Investigators have uncovered extensive links between the Gay Paree and Brussels attacks, both of which were claimed by the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group.

The DNA of Brussels airport jacket wallah Najim Laachraoui was, for example, found on a boom jacket recovered at the Bataclan concert hall in Gay Paree where 90 people died on November 13.

On Friday, police netted another key Gay Paree suspect, Mohammed Abrini, dubbed "the man in the hat" after he was seen in CCTV footage at Brussels airport shortly before the two bombers struck there.

Belgium’s prosecutor’s office said on Sunday that the Brussels attackers had originally planned another assault in La Belle France but the arrest of Gay Paree suspect Salah Abdeslam on March 18, coupled with a massive series of police raids, made them change plans and target Belgium instead.
The Times of Israel adds this about the two who were charged:
Belgian media identified Tuesday’s suspects as brothers Smail and Ibrahim Farisi who were said to have "cleaned" the Etterbeek apartment the day after the attacks.

It was not clear when the two men were tossed in the calaboose
... anything you say can and will be used against you, whether you say it or not...
There is considerable speculation in Belgium that despite recent police successes, there could be more suspects still on the run.

The federal prosecutor gave no further details of the suspects, citing the need for secrecy in the investigation "which is continuing actively, day and night."
Update from The Times of Israel at 9:40 a.m. ET: The three arrested yesterday were released without being charged. There's been an awful lot of that since the Paris attack -- I suspect the police are taking the opportunity to get fingerprints, photos, and DNA on file, and examine cell phones and computers for contact information, getting a headstart on the next attack.

Stanikzai says will resign if Helmand province falls to Taliban
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The acting Minister of Defense Masoom Stanikzai has said he will resign if the control of Helmand
...an Afghan province populated mostly by Pashtuns, adjacent to Injun country in Pak Balochistan...
province falls to Talibs.

The remarks by Stanikzai comes as the Taliban group has intensified offensive in this province during the past several months in a bid to capture the province.

According to the earlier reports, the Taliban group is eying to turn the province in its strategic leadership base and the Taliban leaders are even keen to shift the group’s council to Helmand.

However,
some men learn by reading. A few learn by observation. The rest have to pee on the electric fence for themselves...
Stanikzai said the province will not fall to Taliban control. "It will not fall. If it falls, there is no doubt I will resign, but it will not fall," he told CNN.

Stanikzai further added "It is not a rosy picture in Helmand. It’s a difficult fight and there are many fighters coming from across the (Pakistain) border, there is no doubt about that."

He blamed the Taliban’s recent advances on Pak assistance, an oft-repeated charge by Afghan officials.

"Why are we ignoring this fact? Go to Quetta, go to Beautiful Downtown Peshawar
...capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (formerly known as the North-West Frontier Province), administrative and economic hub for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan. Peshawar is situated near the eastern end of the Khyber Pass, convenient to the Pak-Afghan border. Peshawar has evolved into one of Pakistan's most ethnically and linguistically diverse cities, which means lots of gunfire.
. What the hell are those (militant) bases doing there? How are they moving there? How are they communicating there?" he added.

This comes as the Taliban group announced their summer offensive today and vowed to continue fight as the group’s armed insurgency enters to its 15th year.

The Afghan security officials had earlier predicted that the group will continue to pursue violence with the full support of Pakistain’s ISI despite efforts by the Afghan government and its partners to encourage the group to participate in peace talks.

Mohamud Mukhtar, an elder has confirmed the aerial bombardment, saying the jets struck Basul village, and other residential areas near Garbaharey town, the regional capital of Gedo.

The local residents in southern Somalia have blamed Kenya and U.S. air force jets for killing their wimmin children fluffy bunnies livestock in the increasing indiscriminate airstrikes in the Al shabaab controlled areas.

Al-Jazeera America signs off after less than three years
[AlAhram] Al-Jazeera
... an Arab news network headquartered in Qatar, notorious for carrying al-Qaeda press releases. The name means the Peninsula, as in the Arabian Peninsula. In recent years it has settled in to become slightly less biased than MSNBC, in about the same category as BBC or CBS...
America was set to sign off Tuesday after a costly and failed effort to break into the US cable news market.

The channel launched in 2013 by the global media group based in Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates...
won praise for its news coverage, but fell far short of viewership and advertising goals.

The shutdown, announced in January, was set to be complete with the airing of a three-hour special Tuesday evening showcasing the channel's coverage since the launch.

"We have been privileged to cover stories of people who epitomize the strength and resilience of the human spirit. Individuals who have fought for good, who have tackled adversity, whose stories and voices deserve coverage," the group said in a statement.

"There are so many more people across America whose stories remain untold. Those stories need to be heard."

Al-Jazeera, which operates one of the largest global news operations and is controlled by Qatar's royal family, paid some $500 million to launch the US channel known as AJAM.

The outlet, which competed against CNN, MSNBC and Fox News Channel, did not release viewership data but some reports said its audience was only around 30,000 for the key prime-time hours.

In mid-2013, the channel went live after hiring some 850 staff and opening 12 bureaus across the United States and a state-of-the art studio in New York.

It faced a series of problems in addition to low viewership: lawsuits alleged an unhospitable work environment and the channel faced criticism for its report linking NFL star Peyton Manning to a banned growth hormone.

However,
nothing needs reforming like other people's bad habits...
AJAM was recognized for its reporting, including winning Emmy and Peabody awards.

Some analysts said the launch came at a time when viewers were moving away from traditional cable news to Internet-based news from organizations like Vice Media, BuzzFeed and Huffington Post.

Al Jazeera said in a statement it intends to expand its digital services to "broaden its multi-platform presence into the US later this year."

#6  Al J Arabic probably loses a few tens of millions a year and their other ventures are also probably net money losers also. The Al J's attempt to establish a channel in the USA probably cost the Qatar Govt (who owns the company) more than all their other ventures combined.

Of course the Qatari govt has money to burn and the station has enormous influence in the Arab world, in the arab speaking populations of Europe and it has also become a major influence of non arab journalism in Europe. Much of the anti semitism, anti USA, etc. attitudes of the Euro journalists (or 'journalists') comes from association with the Al J folk.

Afghanistan
7 policemen killed in a suspected insider attack in Kandahar
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] At least seven coppers were killed in southern Kandahar province of Afghanistan in a suspected insider attack, local officials said Tuesday.

The incident has taken place in Spin Boldak district of Kandahar late on Monday night near the Durand Line.

A local security official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said the coppers were rubbed out by one of their comrades who has managed to flee the area following the attack.

The Taliban group has grabbed credit behind the incident and said the coppers were killed in an attack on a security post.

The group also claimed that the attack was carried out as part of the summer offensive launched by the group under the name of Omari Operations.

This comes as at least 7 coppers serving with the Afghan Local Police (ALP) forces were rubbed out by their comrades in this province late last month.

Kandahar is the birth place of the Taliban forces of Evil however the Afghan cops have managed to maintain security and stability in this province during the past several months.

The anti-government armed murderous Moslems have been trying to expand their insurgency activities in this province lately amid deteriorating security situation in the south.

India-Pakistan
Stuff of farce
[DAWN] AS the judges, lawyers and others who work at the Anti-Terrorism Court-II in Clifton, Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
, go to work in the coming days, they might be forgiven for thinking privately that no matter what their work environment, there, but by the grace of God, could have lain a scene of destruction.

Thankfully, given that everyone on the premises remained mostly unharmed, and the damage to infrastructure was not significant either, it is possible to make light of an incident that could so easily have turned into a tragedy. As things stand, the story belongs to the genre of comedic fiction.

On Monday, a lawyer and a policeman got into an argument. The former insisted that the latter did not have the expertise to understand how a hand grenade, allegedly recovered from his client, functioned.

The policeman stiffened, informing the court that he was a retired soldier, and, when further goaded by the lawyer about how a detonator worked, proceeded to pull the pin out and set off the charge. It seems the policeman was under the impression that the detonator had been defused.

Obviously, he was proved wrong as the roomful of people who were left cowering in the courtroom would confirm.

Having said that, pause to think of what could have ensued had the part involved not been a detonator but the grenade itself.

It is sobering indeed to think of such explosives in the hands of obviously untrained persons; and worse, those who by the very nature of their jobs are expected to have at least basic working knowledge of dangerous materials.

This is a country that has spent more than a decade fighting on the front line of terror and militancy; moreover, the incident occurred in a city where the rates of violent crime are such that the police force should have by now been honed into a lean, mean force. Clearly, such expectations are wishful thinking.

Citizens can legitimately wonder, what real chances are there of winning this war?

Afghanistan
Taliban brutally kill 2 public uprising members in Baghlan by gouging their eyes
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The Talibs have brutally murdered two public uprising forces in northern Baghlan province of Afghanistan by gouging their eyes and slitting their nose and ears.

The incident took place late on Monday night in the restive Burka district where the anti-government armed bully boyz are actively operating.

A member of the public uprising forces said the Talibs are preventing the local residents to remove the dead bodies of the two deceased men.

The Talibs group has not commented regarding the report so far.

Incident involving mutilation of security personnel, babus government employees and civilians accused of working for the government is not rare in Afghanistan.

The Talibs frequently target the security personnel and babus government employees as well as the ordinary civilians by accusing them of working for the government.

Such incidents normally take place on highways where the Taliban bully boyz are kidnapping the victims and murder them in horrific way.

Baghlan is among the relatively volatile provinces in northern Afghanistan where anti-government armed krazed killer groups are actively operating in a number of its districts and frequently carry out insurgency activities.

Worries about racism in US reach new high: Poll
[Iran Press TV] More than a third of Americans now say they are worried "a great deal" about race relations in the US, which is higher than at any time since 2001, a new poll has found.

The percentage of respondents who are worried a great deal rose seven points to 35 percent in the past year and has more than doubled in the past two years, according to a Gallup poll released Monday.

Concern about race relations has risen during an 18-month period marked by a series of deaths of unarmed African Americans at the hands of coppers.

These deaths sparked major, sometimes violent, protests and fueled the nationwide rise of the "Black Lives Matter" movement, which campaigns against violence toward black people.

New Russian Helicopter anti-missile system
[UPI] MOSCOW, April 12 (UPI) -- Russian Helicopters Holding Company says it is equipping five models of its military aircraft with a new on-board system to defend against MANPAD missiles and air-to-air missiles.

The defensive system is called President-S, which features a laser illumination detector, an ultraviolet missile approach warning system, an electro-optical electronic warfare system, decoy flares, and a control system.

The design of the President-S also includes a number of units, or stations, which can be placed within the helicopter airframe and on external attachment, the company said.

"Russian Helicopters is working to improve its aircraft by continuously upgrading and equipping them with next-generation onboard systems," said Alexander Mikheev, the director general of Russian Helicopters. "The new President-S will protect helicopters against hostile MANPADs and ensure high flight safety."

The system will be used on the company's Mi-171Sh and Mi-17-V5 multi-functional helicopters, Mi-26T2 heavy transport helicopter, and Mi-28NE and Ka-52 strike helicopters.

Russian Helicopters said 12 helicopters for foreign customers will be equipped with President-S this year; the onboard system is planned to be installed on the Mi-28NE Night Hunter and Ka-52 Alligator in 2017.

The Ministry of Education (MoD) said the rocket landed in the vicinity of Shahid Mawlavi Habib-ur-Rehman high school this morning.

A statement by MoE said the dear departed students have been identified as third grade student Mohammad Shakir and eight grade student Mohammad Zakir.

The statement further added that four others studying in second and third grades were maimed in the attack.

The ministry strongly condemned the attack on the school and urged the security personnel to take immediate steps in arresting the perpetrators of the incident.

Bangladesh
Bangladesh blames Islamists for brutal murder of activist
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Bangladeshi police said on Tuesday they suspect a domestic Islamist turban group of being behind the brutal murder of a secular activist in Dhaka, days after a branch of Al-Qaeda grabbed credit.

Nazimuddin Samad, a law student who criticized Islamism in Facebook posts, was killed last week near his university in the capital by attackers carrying machetes, the latest in a string of deadly assaults on secular activists.

Ansar al-Islam, a Bangladesh branch of Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS), said on Friday it was behind the 26-year-old's murder, according to the US monitoring group SITE.

But Dhaka Metropolitan Police officers said they believe it was the work of Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT), a homegrown turban outfit that has been blamed in similar cases.

"We suspect Ansarullah Bangla Team has carried out the murder," Maruf Hossain Sorder, a front man for the force, told AFP.

"There were some similarities between the latest murder and the previous killings of bloggers," he added.

Bangladesh authorities have consistently denied that international Islamist networks such as Al-Qaeda or ISIS are active in the country.

"Al-Qaeda or ISIS do not exist in Bangladesh," Sorder said.

Samad was the seventh secular activist -- the sixth in the past 15 months -- to have been murdered by suspected Islamist Lions of Islam over their writings.

Police have previously locked away
Don't shoot, coppers! I'm comin' out!
several suspected members of ABT in connection with at least three of these murders.

Eight ABT members, including a top holy man said to have founded the group, were convicted late last year for the murder of atheist blogger Ahmed Rajib Haider in February 2013.

The murders have sparked outrage at home and abroad, with international groups demanding that the secular government protect freedom of speech in the Muslim-majority country.

Hundreds of secular activists last week held a days-long protest in Dhaka and Samad's home-town of Sylhet to demand action over his death.

AQIS previously grabbed credit for the murder of an American atheist blogger who was hacked to death on the streets of Dhaka in February 2015.

Iraqi army liberates several areas in Hit from Daesh grip

ISIS terrorist group in the strategic city of Hit, military sources say.

Three neighborhoods in a district of Hit, located in the western province of Anbar, were recaptured by the army, Major General Sami Kazim al-Ardi, a commander in the Counter-Terrorist Bureau, told Iraq's al-Sumaria News on Tuesday.

Only some areas in three districts of Hit's northeastern part are to be liberated.

Meanwhile,
...back at the pie fight, Bella grabbed the cocoanut cream...
Major General Abdul-Ghani al-Assadi, another commander in the Counter-Terrorist Bureau, announced that the Iraqi forces have thwarted a ISIS attack on Hit city center.

ISIS is on the verge of total defeat in Hit as many of its elements were killed on Monday, the commander added.

On April 4, Iraqi forces entered Hit, located 31 miles (50 kilometers) from Anbar’s capital city of Ramadi. The advance came a week after the beginning of an operation by the army to take full control of the city.

It was the latest in a string of gains by the Iraqi military and allied volunteer fighters against ISIS in the conflict-ridden Arab country.
