Things got ugly when a Republican strategist accused a former CIA analyst of earning 'more money' with his security clearance
[Business Insider] Former CIA analyst Philip Mudd got into a heated argument with Republican strategist Paris Dennard on Friday, after Dennard suggested Mudd made "more money" from consulting firms because of his security clearance.

"Your contracts and your consulting gigs pay you a lot more money because of the access that you have," Dennard said, adding "I hope the president continues to do this," referring to the security clearance revocations.

Mudd did not appreciate Dennard's assertion.

"Profitable, Paris?," Mudd asked. "Let me ask you one question. How much do you think I'm paid to do that at the request of the US government? Give me one answer and you got ten seconds. How much?"

Dennard rebutted, "I'll ask you a question. How much are you paid for your ..."

But Mudd shot back, "Answer the question! I have no contracts with the US government that pay money. Zero."

"Phil, let's be honest. I'm not talking about your role with the federal government," Dennard said.

Olde Tyme Religion
Satanic temple sparks uproar by unveiling statue of goat-headed, winged creature called Baphomet in Arkansas state capitol
[Independent] Satan worshippers turned out to cheer the unveiling of a bronze statue dedicated to a goat-headed winged creature called Baphomet in Little Rock, Arkansas.

The Satanic Temple organisation arranged the rally outside the Arkansas State Capitol building to protest a Ten Commandments monument already on the grounds.

Although the striking, eight-and-a-half foot tall icon was only allowed to be on display temporarily, Satanists argued they should be allowed to erect the winged goat effigy on a permanent basis under freedom of religion rights outlined in the US constitution.

Satanic Arkansas cofounder Ivy Forrester, one of the rally organisers, said: "If you’re going to have one religious monument up then it should be open to others, and if you don’t agree with that then let’s just not have any at all."

#1  It's not a "religious monument," it's an idol.

See: "The abomination that desolates." Does it desolate only the idol worshippers or also any who abet its presence? I think a close reading of the texts answers that question.

#2  A statue of Jesus should not be placed in a public site. Nor should this POS. The ten commandments are historic societal rules which dominate all Judeo-Christian underpinnings for laws and living

Austrian Populist Interior Minister: Criminalise Sharia Law Advocacy
[Breitbart] Austrian Freedom Party (FPÖ) Interior Minister Herbert Kickl has floated the idea of charging radical Islamic adherents if they advocate for Sharia law over the constitutional law of Austria.

The populist Interior Minister laid out the proposal as part of a programme to fight against the spread of radical Islamic extremism in Austria, Kronen Zeitung reports.

"Those who want to pass the Sharia law over the Austrian laws and want to bring upon us a theocracy in place of our democracy belong in court!" Kickl, who has been long known for his fierce firebrand rhetoric, said.

The move also follows campaign promises made by FPÖ leader and current Vice-Chancellor Heinz Christian Strache who vowed to ban Islamism in January of last year arguing it was, "antagonistic to women, antiliberal and corresponds to a fascist worldview."

-Lurid Crime Tales-
America's Guns: Secret Pipeline to Syria
[Al Jazeera] It's well known that the United States exports billions of dollars' worth of arms and ammunition to its allies. What isn't as widely understood is that many of the guns it supplies to "partner forces" fighting wars in the Middle East - particularly to rebels in Syria - are Soviet-style munitions such as RPGs and Kalashnikovs which are obtained from manufacturers in Bulgaria, Serbia and other Eastern European countries.

There are many reasons for this, of which the most obvious are that fighters in the region have long been familiar with these types of weapons and would rather use them than anything else, and they are relatively easy to obtain. Another reason is that providing guns which can't easily be traced back to the US puts a politically convenient degree of separation between the US and those to whom the arms go - even when the supplies have been sanctioned at the highest level.

Nevertheless, the process still necessarily involves complicated procurement and supply routes, and a less than diligent application of the "rules" that are theoretically supposed to constrain the international sale and movement of guns into such a volatile environment - embargos, sanctions, "end-user" certification and so on.

It often requires officials to turn a blind eye to less than satisfactory paperwork, the use of private contractors to act as cut-outs and trainers, and middlemen and dead-of-night cargo flights to and from strange, out-of-the-way places.

Meanwhile, a host of other players, from Russia, to Turkey, to Saudi Arabia and Iran are all doing variants of the same thing: providing deadly weapons to their own proxies, which in the Syrian conflict alone has contributed to a death toll of around 500,000, the vast majority of whom are civilians.

It's also inevitable, in this murky world of shifting alliances and often hidden deals with irregular militias on an ever-fluctuating battleground, that some of these arms do not always end up where they were meant to.

At the end of last year, for example, the UK-based Conflict Armament Research found - after analysing 40,000 items recovered by its investigators along ISIL front lines between July 2014 and November 2017 - that as much as 90 percent of ISIL's vast arsenal of arms and ammunition had originated in Russia, China and Eastern European states - often as a consequence of US weapons transfers which had somehow fallen into the wrong hands.

The report concluded that by purchasing "large numbers" of European arms and ammunition and then diverting them to non-state actors in Syria without notifying the sellers, the US reportedly "violated the terms of sale and export agreed between weapon exporters ... and recipients."

So how does this secretive but deadly trade function?

In a special two-part probe about America's guns, People and Power's Juliana Ruhfus and filmmaker Seamus Mirodan teamed up with the Balkan Investigative Reporting Network and the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project to investigate US arms transfers overseas, and, subsequently, the consequences of lax rules governing the arms market closer to home.

Arabia
Qatar accuses Saudi Arabia of blocking access to Hajj
[Al Jazeera] Travel agents in Qatar say a link for residents to register for the pilgrimage was blocked by Riyadh.

Qatar has accused Saudi Arabia of barring its nationals from performing this year's Hajj, a charge Saudi officials deny.

Around 1,200 Qatari citizens are allowed to attend the pilgrimage under a quota system, but Qatari officials say it has become impossible to register for the annual religious event.

Saudi Arabia, alongside the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and Egypt, severed relations with Qatar in June 2017, and has placed the Gulf state under a land, sea, and air blockade.

Gulf crisis: Blockade prevents Qatar residents from performing Hajj. Qatari nationals are also banned from entering the states, but Riyadh claims to have made an exception for the Hajj.

In June, Saudi Arabia's ministry for the Hajj announced the opening of a website, which allowed Qataris to register for the pilgrimage. However, those in Qatar say registration is impossible.

Judge Dismisses Youth Climate Change Lawsuit in Washington State
[Inside Climate News] The state judge wrote that climate change poses urgent threats, but that it should be solved by the executive and legislative branches, not the courts.

A group of young climate advocates who sued the state of Washington to force it to reduce greenhouse gas emissions lost their case on Tuesday when a judge sided with the state and agreed to dismiss it.

The judge urged them to pursue their cause through other channels.

King County Superior Court Judge Michael Scott wrote that the issues at the heart of the case are political and should be considered by the state's legislative and executive branches, not settled by its courts.

The Washington lawsuit is one of nine state-level cases involving youth advocates supported by Our Children's Trust, the group leading a federal youth lawsuit that heads to trial in a U.S. District Court in Oregon this October. Like the federal suit, known as Juliana v. U.S., the state lawsuits accuse the government of failing to protect the children from the dangers of climate change and pushing policies that favor fossil fuel use.

The U.S. Supreme Court recently rejected a plea by the Trump administration to halt the federal trial, but in doing so, it also cautioned the lower court to tread cautiously before expanding judicial powers.

Caribbean-Latin America
James Mattis: Latin American countries selling out their sovereignty to Russia, China
[Wash Times] SANTIAGO, Chile ‐ A Chinese space force in Argentina, Russian control of Venezuelan gas and South American armies equipped with the latest Chinese and Russian hardware. Until recently, it might have sounded like the plot of a geopolitical thriller in a region once considered America’s backyard.

But this is what Defense Secretary James N. Mattis faced on his visit this week to several South American nations, where economic and military posturing by Beijing and Moscow has been on the rise for the past decade.

The whole reason Mr. Mattis made the trip was to try to "recover lost territory in Latin America," said one foreign ministry official in Argentina, where the U.S. defense secretary stopped Wednesday. "Chinese and Russian influence grew during years in which the U.S. largely abandoned the region," said the official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because of his sensitive post coordinating security policies with Washington and other international powers.

Analysts say Chinese loans in recent years have allowed authoritarian leaders to consolidate power in Venezuela, Bolivia and Nicaragua, and have separately generated corruption scandals that brought down the presidents of Ecuador and Argentina.

But there is also a clear security element coursing through Beijing’s approach. Chinese officials obtained key concessions from Buenos Aires to build a satellite tracking station after engineering a $10 billion currency swap in 2009 that allowed then-Argentine President Cristina Kirchner to stabilize her national currency amid a financial crisis in the country.

New York's 19th Congressional District Resists ‘BLUE WAVE'
[Free Beacon] The House election in New York's 19th Congressional District pits a one-term GOP congressman against a first-time Democratic congressional candidate in a district President Trump won in 2016. The race could prove crucial for either party's ability to control the House of Representatives.

New York's 19th district covers a broad swath of New York State, extending almost 8,000 square miles and containing about 700,000 people. Prior to 2013, the district was made up of counties closer to New York City, including Putnam and part of Westchester. President Obama won this district in 2008 and 2012, both times by more than five points.

Since 2013, the district has consisted of Columbia, Delaware, Greene, Otsego, Schoharie, Sullivan, and Ulster counties, and parts of Broome, Dutchess, Montgomery, and Rensselaer counties, giving it a more rural, agricultural character. President Trump won the district by almost seven points in 2016.

The progressive base of the Democratic Party in the district is mainly centered on Ulster County, located in the south of the district, which contains a state university and was the only county to not vote for the district's current representative, Republican John Faso, in 2016. Dutchess County, which is more suburban than much of the district, supported Hillary Clinton in the presidential election, but Faso in the congressional race.

Revoking Security Clearances: The Easy Way out - Larry Klayman believes that Brennan et al. ought to be tried and jailed
[WND] There has been a feeding frenzy in the media this week about President Donald Trump’s order removing the national security clearance of former Obama director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) John Brennan, as well as his announced review to consider removing the national security clearances of others related to the Fusion GPS and Christopher Steele dossier and related Clinton-Democrat scandals.

On the left, the phony and dishonest chorus was that Trump’s action and threatened further actions on security clearances were designed to chill free speech and a threat to the Constitution, claiming, as usual, that it is worthy of impeaching our 45th commander in chief. Of course, when has the left in recent memory considered the Constitution all that important? The Communist Manifesto of Karl Marx is its latest must-read!

For me, as the legal counsel for many of the families of special ops servicemen who have yet to receive an honest or complete explanation for the tragic deaths of their fallen hero sons during a raid in the Afghan war theater codenamed "Extortion 17" ‐ and which is undoubtedly a coverup by Obama’s Department of Defense but sadly continued under the new DOD leadership (in the swamp of Washington, D.C., both parties have a pact to protect each other) ‐ the biggest outrage came from Retired U.S. Navy Adm. William McRaven who oversaw the raid that took out Osama bin Laden ‐ assuming that he died during that raid and not before of natural causes as many suspect.

McRaven was an Obama-appointed Afghan theater commander who also oversaw the Extortion 17 raid, which resulted in the deaths of Navy SEALs and other servicemen only three months after bin Laden was allegedly killed. Thanks to McRaven’s coverup about the more than just suspicious circumstances of the Extortion 17 tragedy, the biggest loss of life during the now 17-year-old and counting war, Freedom Watch and I have filed suits for the aggrieved Gold Star parents. The case, which has been winding its way through the federal court in Washington, D.C., was brought against the Taliban, the Islamic Republic of Iran, Afghanistan, its former President Hamid Karzai and other terrorist defendants. Go to www.freedomwatchusa.org to read this complaint and learn about this case.

So when I read the comments of McRaven, an Obama political hack of the first magnitude, I was more than disgusted. Here is what this clown ‐ who spent years kissing the derriere of his "Muslim In Chief," with the hope that he would be rewarded with the title of chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (which, thank God, never happened) ‐ had to say about the removal of Brennan’s security clearance. In an op-ed published, you guessed it, in the Trump-hating Washington Post, McRaven called Brennan "one of the finest public servants. ... He is a man of unparalleled integrity, whose honesty and character have never been in question, except by those who do not know him." Accused Russian 'agent' seeks donations for defense
[Radio Free Europe] A Russian woman who has been charged in Washington with acting as an unregistered agent for the Russian government has launched an online funding-raising campaign to pay for her legal defense.

Maria Butina, 29, opened a website to raise money for her case after being arrested last month, her lawyer and media reported on August 17.

Before her arrest, the gun rights advocate had built up a network of prominent Republican contacts in Washington, including at the powerful National Rifle Association, while working toward a master's degree in political science at the American University.

"I'm Maria and I need your help," the website of Butina's new fund-raising foundation says, with pictures of the smiling redhead at different sites around the United States.

A native of Siberia, the website says "she championed peace and positive relations between her homeland and the United States" while she studied and hosted "insider" dinners on Russian themes.

"But after graduating with honors, she was arrested by the U.S. government for crimes she did not commit," it says. The website did not indicate how much money she has raised so far.

While Butina is charged with spying on the United States, her lawyer Robert Driscoll has insisted that "this is not a spy case." He told TASS, the Russian state-run news agency, that she expects to attract donations from Russia, the United States, and elsewhere around the world.

"We will be very grateful for donations from friends and supporters. Information about sponsors will be strictly confidential," the website says in both English and Russian.

In court filings, the Justice Department called Butina a "covert Russian agent" who maintained contacts with Russian spies and pursued a mission "to penetrate the U.S. national decision-making apparatus to advance the agenda of the Russian Federation."

She built contacts through the National Rifle Association in part by setting up her own gun rights group in Russia, where private firearms are strictly controlled.

Her enthusiasm for gun rights enabled her to meet and mingle with senior U.S. Republican lawmakers and operatives who have championed gun rights in the United States, many of whom she met through her boyfriend, a Republican operative, court documents say.

Did James Clapper meet with Bruce and Nellie Ohr?
[American Thinker] It is essential to untangle a conspiracy in order to bring full transparency on the actions of senior players in their anti-constitutional mission to destroy Donald Trump by all means possible while they were operating at the highest levels of the Deep State.

Consequently, Kimberley A. Strassel, with her usual excellent reporting for the Wall Street Journal, asks an excellent question: what was Bruce Ohr doing?

In her article, she points out the need for further investigation of the Ohrs' potentially illegal activity.

Surprising support for Trump yanking Brennan's security clearance
[American Thinker] This may be a sign that the tide is turning and the cabal that conspired to fix the 2016 presidential election and then, when that failed, remove Trump from office is going to be exposed and ultimately held to account. As the Democrats and their media enablers bloviate about John Brennan's imaginary First Amendment right to a perpetual security clearance, a statement of support for the president came from an unexpected source yesterday. Lou Dobbs tweeted:
Lou Dobbs

@LouDobbs
Senate Intel Chairman, Richard Burr is defending President Trump. I believe this is a remarkable turn in the tides of Washington affairs and may well represent the beginning of the end of the Mueller Witch Hunt. @realDonaldTrump #AmericaFirst #Dobbs
Lou Dobbs may be on to something in terms of the significance of this statement. Burr is highlighting a trap that Brennan is now caught in. As Clarice Feldman pointed out, Senator Burr is the chair of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence (SSCI) and a member of the Gang of Eight that gets access to the most secret documents. He is also a conspicuous member of the GOP establishment and until yesterday had been reticent in his approach to these Deep State scandals. Yet here he is, alluding to a trap that Brennan may be in.

President Trump signaled his appreciation of the importance of this move:

I have all along hoped that the story of the cabal would emerge in clear outline before the midterms, because President Trump is the master of the reality television story arc, and because he has the power to declassify any evidence he wants the public to know about.

Senator Burr, no matter how deep his Deep State ties, knows this, too, and also knows what's in most of those critical classified documents.

Massachusetts Taxpayers Sue Over Anti-Semitic, Pro-Islam School Lessons
[Free Beacon] A group of Massachusetts-based taxpayers are suing the school committee in the city of Newton, a wealthy, liberal enclave, over what they claim is the leadership's ongoing promotion of anti-Semitic school materials and the promotion of Islamic religious beliefs, according to an announcement from the organization handling the lawsuit.

Education Without Indoctrination, a local community group driving the lawsuit, "claims multiple violations of the Massachusetts Open Meeting Law stemming from the school committee's handling of a burgeoning scandal over anti-Semitic lessons and the promotion of Islamic religious beliefs as objective facts in the public school district's history classes," according to a press release from the group.

The lawsuit stems from a controversy of Newton Public Schools use of what the group claims are "unvetted educational materials" produced by the Saudi Arabian oil company ARAMCO and the Qatari government, which has long been cited for its funding of terrorism.

"In teaching world history, Newton Public Schools (NPS) use unvetted educational materials funded by the Saudi oil company ARAMCO and the government of Qatar. As a result, Newton public school students are propagandized with materials that slander Israel and the Jewish people, and that falsify history to promote the Islamic religion in public schools," the press release states.

John Brennan Was Long Is a Danger to US National Security
[Townhall] Presumably the head of the CIA at the time John Brennan, who had been a close national security advisor to Barack Obama since his 2008 campaign, signed-off on (and maybe even encouraged) Obama’s decision to whitewash and legitimize the Castro-Family-Crime-Syndicate. Never mind that this whitewash required taking one of modern history’s most infamous liars at his word.

But in fact, only a few weeks before Obama’s (and presumably Brennan’s) giddy acceptance of Castro’s promise ("cross my heart and hope to die!"), Castro got caught red-handed supplying Chinese-made arms to the Western hemisphere’s oldest, biggest and most murderous terror-group: Colombia’s FARC. The terror-death toll from these Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia (FARC) exceeds 200,000, and includes more U.S. citizens than were murdered by ISIS.

So maybe it was a mere coincidence that the very week Obama (with presumably Brennan’s support) planned to remove Cuba as a terror-sponsor the mainstream media (especially CNN) blacked-out any mention of this blatant terror-sponsorship by Cuba in our own backyard?

Pres. Trump Cancels 2018 Military Parade, Leaves Door Open for New Date in 2019
[The Federalist] The Veterans Day military parade slated for this fall in Washington, D.C. has been cancelled, with President Donald Trump saying it may be rescheduled for next year "when the cost comes WAY DOWN."

Pentagon spokesman Col. Rob Manning said the Department of Defense and the White House "have now agreed to explore opportunities in 2019," the Associated Press reports.

A recent report on the planned parade said it would cost an estimated $92 million.

The president was inspired to have such a parade in the nation's capital after being a guest at the Bastille Day Parade in Paris last year, where American and French troops marched.

Trump responded Friday morning on Twitter, saying he expects the price tag on the parade to come down next year. He added he would instead attend a parade at nearby Andrews Air Force Base on another date and attend a parade in Paris on Nov. 11, the date of Veterans Day in the U.S. annually and this year, the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I.

"The local politicians who run Washington, D.C. (poorly) know a windfall when they see it," Trump tweeted. "When asked to give us a price for holding a great celebratory military parade, they wanted a number so ridiculously high that I cancelled it. Never let someone hold you up!"

Mattis says he'll dispatch Navy hospital ship to help Venezuelan migrants
[The Hill] Defense Secretary James Mattis said Friday that a U.S. Navy hospital ship will be deployed to the Colombian coast to treat refugees from Venezuela.

"It is absolutely a humanitarian mission. We’re not sending soldiers, we’re sending doctors," Mattis told reporters on Friday, according to the Miami Herald.

The secretary described the move as a way to "deal with the human cost of [Venezuelan President Nicolas] Maduro and his increasingly isolated regime."

The United Nations said earlier this week that an estimated 2.3 million Venezuelans have fled the country amid economic and political crisis as of June, with many going to countries such as Colombia and Brazil.

The U.N. has deemed the situation to be a refugee crisis.

John Elway: Broncos Offered Kaepernick a Contract, He Passed
[Breitbart] Denver Broncos GM John Elway says that the Broncs offered former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick a contract, but he turned them down.

Elway, who is serving as Denver’s president of football operations and general manager, was recently asked if he might give Kaepernick a look-see as the team searches for a new backup quarterback, but Elway nixed the idea, ESPN reported.

The Broncos recently demoted Paxton Lynch to No. 3 to give second-year quarterback Chad Kelly a shot at the second spot. But the team is not ruling out the possibility of bringing on another quarterback. With that in mind, Elway was asked about the possibility of signing Kaepernick.

President Trump Says He Will Revoke Bruce Ohr's Security Clearance
[RedState] The dominos are starting to tumble. Two days ago, President Trump revoked the security clearance of former CIA director and Resistance warlord John Brennan. Today he went after the only major player in the scheme to peddle the Trump dossier who is still employed by the federal government as director of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces.

Unlike Brennan, Ohr may have some real legal exposure in this fiasco. His wife, Nellie, is a Russia expert with some CIA ties, at least via contract work, who was employed by Fusion GPS to help with the Trump dossier. After Christopher Steele was "fired" by the FBI, he continued to meet with Ohr and pass along other material he was collecting. These activities, and others, revealed by released FBI and Justice notes and emails seem to indicate that both Ohr and Fusion GPS’s Glenn Simpson have lied out their asses on the subject. In particular, Ohr never revealed his wife’s work with Fusion GPS on financial disclosure documents and him pushing her handiwork to the FBI could very well be considered as him having a financial interest in the work he was doing.

Israeli forces shut down Al-Aqsa Mosque compound
[Al Jazeera] Israeli forces have shut down the al-Aqsa Mosque compound following an alleged stabbing attempt by a Paleostinian on a group of Israeli coppers in Jerusalem's Old City.

The attacker, a 30-year-old Paleostinian citizen of Israel from the town of Umm al-Faham,
... more generally spelt in our archives as Umm al-Fahm, home of the outlawed northern branch of the so-called Islamic Movement, the Israeli branch of the Muslim Brotherhood. Ynet has video of the “alleged” attack, including the sad little knife the attacker tried to use, and names the miscreant as Ahmad Muhammad Mahamid...
was rubbed out by the Israeli forces, police said in a statement on Friday. No other casualties were reported.

According to local Paleostinian media, worshipers were forcibly removed out of the compound by Israeli police and soldiers, who then proceeded to shut down the gates to the Old City.

In response, hundreds of Paleostinians performed the early evening prayers outside the gates.
No doubt some were Palestinians; others, however, were Arab citizens of Israel because their ancestors were not the kind of cowards who fled the five approaching Arab armies in 1948.
Ynet adds:
According to the police, the terrorist [Ahmad Muhammad Mahamid] had no previous security charges filed against him. His relatives were questioned by the police and Shin Bet on Friday evening.

Syrian Army unleashes powerful attack across Idlib-Hama axis
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) increased their pressure on the jihadist rebels positioned along the Idlib-Hama axis this afternoon.

Backed by their allies from the National Defense Forces (NDF), the Syrian Arab Army began their assault by firing several missiles towards the Jaish al-Izza strongholds of Kafr Zita and al-Lataminah in northern Hama.

The Syrian Army and their allies would also target Jaish al-Izza’s fortifications and movements around the town of Markabah.

According to a Syrian Army source in the area, their forces managed to destroy at least two trenches and one base that belonged to Jaish al-Izza.

At the same time, the Syrian Arab Army intensified their strikes on the jihadist-held towns of Umm Khakhaleel, Khuwayn, Tal Mari, and Tal Sheih.

The attack specifically targeted Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham
’s forces that were working to raise new trenches and plant mines along the Hama-Idlib axis.

The Syrian Arab Army has been striking the Hama-Idib axis for the last five days, destroying several sites belonging to the jihadist rebels in the process.

As Finance Minister of Afghanistan between July 2002 and December 2004, he led Afghanistan's attempted economic recovery until the Karzais stole all the money. ..
, Afghanistan's president, has visited the embattled southeastern city of Ghazni, a week after the Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
launched an attack and infiltrated deep into the key bustling provincial capital.

The five-day battle with the Taliban in Ghazni killed at least 100 members of Afghan cops and 35 civilians before calm was restored on Wednesday, while a UN report quoted "unverifiable numbers" that put the civilian corpse count at more than 200.

Ghani met officials on Friday in Ghazni, a central Afghanistan city on the main highway linking the capital, Kabul, with the south, to assess security. He also met families of the victims.

In a speech, Ghani said greater security was needed around district capitals, as well as the bustling provincial capital, and questioned the strength of defence trenches dug around vulnerable areas.

"I am here to help all those who have suffered losses, I am committed to build the city and also do everything to protect Ghazni," Ghani said.

"Our soldiers have fought bravely and we stand committed to bringing peace," he said.

Yazidi 'ex-Sex Slave' Trapped Both in Iraq and in German Exile
The rest of this story from yesterday.
[AnNahar] A young Yazidi woman who fled to Germany but returned home to northern Iraq says she cannot escape her Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group captor who held her as a sex slave for three months.

Ashwaq Haji, 19, says she ran into the man in a German supermarket in February. Traumatized by the encounter, she returned to Iraq the following month.

Like many other Yazidis, she was kidnapped by IS when the jihadists seized swathes of Iraq in the summer of 2014.

In their ancestral region of Sinjar in northwestern Iraq, thousands of Yazidi women were killed or sold off as sex slaves.

The teenager was held from August 3 until October 22 of 2014, when she managed to escape from the home of an Iraqi jihadist using the name Abu Humam who had bought her for $100, she told AFP in the Yazidi shrine of Lalish, north of second city djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
The Yazidis are a Kurdish-speaking religious minority that was brutally persecuted by the jihadists who despise them as heretics.

Under a German government program for Iraqi refugees, Ashwaq, her mother and a younger brother were resettled in 2015 in Schwaebisch Gmuend, a town near Stuttgart.

Her refuge in Germany, where she took language lessons, was cut short on February 21 when a man called out her name in a supermarket and started talking to her in German.

"He told me he was Abu Humam. I told him I didn't know him, and then he started talking to me in Arabic," she said.

"He told me: 'Don't lie, I know very well that you're Ashwaq'," she said, adding that he gave her home address and other details of her life in Germany.

After that experience, she immediately phoned the local police, who told her to contact a specialized department.

- LIVING IN FEAR BACK IN IRAQ -
The judicial police in the Baden-Wuerttemberg region of southwestern Germany said an inquiry was opened on March 13 but that Ashwaq was not present to answer questions.

A front man for the German federal prosecutor's office told AFP that so far the man's identity could not be confirmed "with certainty."

Germany says it has opened several investigations over terrorism charges or crimes against humanity involving asylum seekers linked to jihadist groups in Iraq, Syria or Afghanistan.

Ashwaq said she had viewed surveillance videos filmed in the supermarket together with German police and was ready to keep them informed of her whereabouts.

But she said that she was not willing to return to Germany for fear of seeing her captor again.

She is back in northern Iraq with her mother and brother, but living in fear because she says Abu Humam has family in Baghdad.

She wears black in a sign of mourning for five brothers and a sister still missing since their own capture by IS.

At a camp for the displaced in nearby Iraqi Kurdistan where he has been resettled, her father, Haji Hamid, 53, admits returning was not an easy decision, even though the government proclaimed victory over IS at the end of last year.

"When her mother told me that she'd seen that jihadist... I told them to come back because Germany was obviously no longer a safe place for them," he told AFP.

Life in Iraq is also not easy for Ashwaq or for the 3,315 other Yazidis who beat feet from the jihadists. A similar number are still being held or have gone missing, according to official figures.

"All the survivors have volcanoes inside them, ready to explode," warned Sara Samouqi, a psychologist who works with several Yazidis. "Ashwaq and her family are going through terrible times."

Afghanistan
FO rejects charges Pakistanis aided Taliban in Ghazni
[DAWN] The Foreign Office rejected on Thursday allegations that Pak citizens had supported the Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
attack on Afghanistan’s city of Ghazni recently.

"We have not received any evidence to back up these spurious accusations and reject these baseless allegations," FO front man Dr Muhammad Faisal said, rejecting allegations made by Afghan officials and others.

Last Friday, some 1,000 Taliban fighters stormed the city of Ghazni and retreated five days later.

Afghan defence minister Tariq Shah Bahrami had earlier this week said that Ghazni attack had been carried out by Taliban with the support of external elements, including Paks.

Moreover, The New York Times

...which still proudly displays Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize...

had reported that Afghan officials had claimed the Taliban were aided by imported muscle, including Paks and Chechens, and even some Al Qaeda affiliates.

The FO front man said that Pakistain was fencing the border with Afghanistan with the objective of restricting cross-border movement of both "men and material" as part of its counterterrorism efforts.

He expressed the hope that the border fencing would help achieve long-term regional stability and improve relations between Afghanistan and Pakistain.

U.S. says redirects Syria funds as allies pony up $300 million
[AlAhram] The U.S. State Department said on Friday it will redirect $230 million in frozen funding away from Syria and had raised $300 million from coalition partners for recovery efforts in areas retaken from Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. gunnies in northeast Syria.

President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
had frozen the funds in March while his administration reassessed Washington's role in the Syrian conflict.

The department's spokeswoman Heather Nauert said Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
had contributed $100 million and United Arab Emirates had pledged $50 million toward the new funding.

"This decision does not represent any lessening of U.S. commitment to our strategic goals in Syria," Nauert said in a statement.

Saudi Arabia Says It's Given $100 Million to Northeast Syria

[AnNahar] Saudi Arabia said early on Friday that it has contributed $100 million to northeast Syria for "stabilization projects" in areas once held by the Islamic State group and now controlled by U.S.-backed forces.

The Saudi Embassy in Washington said the money "will save lives, help facilitate the return of displaced Syrians and help ensure that ISIS cannot reemerge to threaten Syria, its neighbors, or plan attacks against the international community." ISIS is an alternate acronym for the militant group.

The money will go toward agriculture, education, roadworks, rubble removal and water service for the region, which is now largely held by the U.S.-backed Syrian Democratic Forces.

"This substantial contribution will play a critical role in the coalition's efforts to revitalize communities, such as Raqqa, that have been devastated by ISIS terrorists," the embassy said in a statement.

The Syrian city of Raqqa was the seat of the Islamic State group's self-proclaimed "caliphate" until it was liberated by the U.S.-backed forces last year.

The Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Council is the political wing of the Syrian Democratic Forces. In May, Syrian President Bashar Assad threatened to attack areas held by the U.S.-backed forces. Saudi Arabia long has opposed Assad's government, funding and arming rebels who challenged his rule as the country's 2011 Arab Spring protests devolved into a civil war and then a regional proxy battlefield.

The U.S. military operates air bases and outposts in the Kurdish-administered region.

The Saudi Embassy described the $100 million as part of a pledge made by Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir during a U.S.-sponsored conference in Brussels about the Islamic State group in July at NATO headquarters.

Nigeria: Lai Mohammed Contradicts UN, Insists Nigeria Paid No Ransom to Free #dapchigirls

report presented to the UN Security Council revealed Nigeria paid ransom to free scores of female students kidnapped in Dapchi, Yobe State, Nigeria's Information Minister, Lai Mohammed, has insisted no ransom was paid.

Over 100 girls were kidnapped from the Dapchi school by a Boko Haram

Upon their release, Mr Mohammed told Nigerians that no ransom was paid for the girls. He said the kidnap "became a moral burden on the abductors."

However,

a report submitted to the UN Security Council showed that a "large ransom" was paid to free the girls.

"In Nigeria, 111 schoolgirls from the town of Dapchi were kidnapped on 18 February 2018 and released by ISWAP on 21 March 2018 in exchange for a large ransom payment," the report stated.

The report said such ransom and the predominance of cash economy was providing oxygen for the insurgency around the Lake Chad region.

The UN report described as the 22nd Report of the Analytical Support and Sanctions Monitoring Team related to Resolution 2368 (2017) regarding Islamic State

Man Arrested For Murder Of 7-Year-Old Taylor Hayes
[BALTIMORE.CBSLOCAL] Police have tossed in the slammer
Keep yer hands where we can see 'em, if yez please!
a 29-year-old suspect in connection with the fatal shooting of 7-year-old Taylor Hayes in July.

Hayes died two weeks after being shot while sitting in the back of a car in west Baltimore on July 5.

29-year-old Keon Gray has been charged with murder and other related charges in Hayes’ death. He was taken into custody in Anne Arundel County. He is currently being extradited back to Baltimore to face these charges.

Gray’s girlfriend, 34-year-old Daneka McDonald, is charged with being an accessory after the fact.

Shanika Robinson, the mother of Taylor Hayes, said the community has to come together, and the violence has to stop. She spoke for the first time since her daughter died.

"All the killing it gotta stop. It has to," Robinson said. "Kids getting killed. I’ll never see my child again, ever."

She spoke at the presser Friday afternoon.

"We have to come together," Robinson said. "It has to stop. I buried my baby,"

Interim Baltimore police commissioner Gary Tuggle praised the community who called in tips and Sherlocks who track Gray down in Anne Arundel County.

Despite the family’s grief, they had gratitude for the community. Hayes’ aunt, Ebony Ward, spoke during Friday afternoon’s presser, and thanked police for their work to make an arrest in this case.

"It was just outstanding work," Ward said. "We gratefully appreciate it from the bottom of our heart. We gratefully appreciate everything, every tip."

A memorial marked the spot where first responders scooped Taylor up and rushed her down to shock trauma. Though a month and a half has passed, the community has not forgotten her smile.

"People are thankful. People are relieved that somebody will hopefully be brought to justice for her death and I think it does give us some hope that the police department is gaining ground," said Baltimore councilman Kristerfer Burnett.

The prosecutor reiterated that Gray is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Police gave few details on where exactly they found Gray, or how long he had been in Anne Arundel County.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
IDF kills two Palestinians on the Gaza border
[Ynet] Clashes at the Gazoo Strip when a ceasefire deal is on the horizon: IDF kills two Paleostinians in demonstrations on the Gazoo border fence, fire erupts in the Gazoo vicinity; Deputy Hamas leader: 'I support calm in the area so that our people can live in dignity and continue our fight.'

During a crucial moment in time, amid ongoing Egyptian efforts to broker a cease-fire deal, hundreds of Paleostinians demonstrated near the border fence on Friday afternoon. Following a few days of relative calm, the IDF killed two Paleostinians demonstrators on the border fence, and fires erupted in the Gazoo vicinity, one of them in the Beeri Forest.

Two Paleostinians demonstrators were killed and another 60 injured at a protest along the Gazoo border amid ongoing Egyptian efforts to broker a cease-fire, Gazoo's Health Ministry said Friday.

The protesters threw rocks and Molotov cocktails from behind clouds of black smoke of burning tires at Israeli troops, who responded with tear gas and sometimes live fire.

Israel's military said some Paleostinians also threw improvised explosives and Molotov cocktails at the fence and that several were spotted briefly crossing into Israeli territory. It said troops "fired live rounds selectively according to standard operating procedures."

An Israeli source confirmed Thursday that Egyptian Intelligence Chief Abbas Kamel visited Israel as the guest of the head of the National Security Council, Meir Ben Shabbat, and met with Netanyahu and Shin Bet chief Nadav Argaman.

Paleostinian sources told al-Hayat that Kamel discussed the final details of the arrangement with the Israeli side, including the completion of humanitarian projects in the Gazoo Strip and future negotiations with Hamas over the exchange of prisoners and captives.

Meanwhile,
...back at the shootout, Butch clutched at his other leg......
Hamas officials have been meeting with Egyptian officials in Cairo, hammering out details of a possible truce with Israel.

The head of Egyptian intelligence visited Israel after two delegations of senior Hamas and Islamic Jihad
...created after many members of the Egyptian Moslem Brotherhood decided the organization was becoming too moderate. Operations were conducted out of Egypt until 1981 when the group was exiled after the assassination of President Anwar Sadat. They worked out of Gaza until they were exiled to Lebanon in 1987, where they clove tightly to Hezbollah. In 1989 they moved to Damascus, where they remain a subsidiary of Hezbollah...
figures attended the talks in Cairo in recent weeks. In addition, a Hamas delegation headed by Hamas deputy leader in the Strip, Khalil al-Hayya headed to Cairo Thursday.

Almost all Paleostinian factions sent representatives to Cairo, except for Fatah, whose members are still boycotting the talks.

The Lebanese-affiliated al-Mayadeen network reported Thursday that the truce agreement between Israel and Hamas would include a one-year ceasefire and the establishment of a sea route between Gazoo and Cyprus under Israeli security supervision.

In addition, Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates. Home of nutbag holy manYusuf al-Qaradawi...
will pay the salaries of the officials in Gazoo with the assistance of Egypt and will also pay the Gazoo Strip's electricity bills in cooperation with Israel.
Al Jazeera adds the Hamas perspective:
Ashraf al-Qidra, the spokesperson for Gaza's ministry of health, said a second Palestinian had been shot dead by Israeli forces on Friday.

Sa'di Akram Muammar, 26, was killed east of Rafah, in the southern Gaza Strip.

The number of wounded protesters has risen to 270.

One Palestinian has been killed by Israeli forces, according to health officials in Gaza.

Karim Abu Fatayer, 30, died after being shot in the head by an Israeli sniper.

Health officials said 154 other protesters were wounded, including four medics who suffocated from tear gas.

Abu Fatayer's death brings the number of Palestinian protesters killed since March 30 to 165.
And from the Jerusalem Post:
Two Paleostinians were killed and 270 others were maimed in festivities with the IDF along the Gazoo border Friday afternoon according to Paleostinian reports, in what seems to be a rise in tensions amid rumors of ceasefire negotiations between Israel and Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth",.

According to the IDF Spokesperson's Office, thousands of Paleostinians gathered and rioted in the Gazoo Strip, mostly deep within its territory and not adjacent to the border fence.

A number of Molotov cocktails and IEDs were thrown toward the security fence, but there were no casualties or damage to Israeli forces.

Despite the attempts to broker a ceasefire, Hamas-affiliated sources stated Friday that its people would continue to engage in weekly "Great March of Return" protests along the border - demonstrations and oft-violent riots that have been happening every Friday since March 30.

#5  The only country that's really been saved from socialism is China, because Mao sent all the Capitalists, "Capitalists, but...," "Socialist, but.. My Dacha! My Zil...," and even the real religious Socialists, to the rice paddies to work off their debt to the people.

They still have a corrupt blend of capitalism and communism, but the management is actually afraid that if they kill the goose that laid the golden egg they'll wind up with another Mao and being sent to the villages again. So it works.

Warren Buffet wants to stop other companies from building a pipeline. He doesn't want his train company nationalized, state seizure of private capital is for the little people, not him.

If that were an actual danger he'd be writing the damn checks to Trump himself.

Turkey court rejects US pastor Andrew Brunson release appeal
[Al Jazeera] A Ottoman Turkish court has rejected an appeal to release Andrew Brunson, a US pastor at the centre of a dispute between Ankara and Washington.

A high court in Izmir said on Friday Brunson would stay under house arrest, upholding a decision taken by a lower court earlier this week. Brunson's lawyer said he would appeal again in 15 days.

The court ruling comes amid a diplomatic spat between The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the decaying remnant of the Ottoman Empire....
and the US that has seen tariffs from both sides pile up and an exchange of threats of further sanctions.

On Friday, Ottoman Turkish Trade Minister Ruhsar Pekcan said her government would respond to any new trade duties imposed on the country, whose currency has plunged in recent weeks.

"We've already responded based on the World Trade Organization rules and will continue to do so," Pekcan was quoted as saying by the state-run Anadolu news agency.

On Thursday, US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin suggested during a cabinet meeting that the next spiral of tit-for-tat sanctions was coming soon, deepening the spat that has rattled financial markets.

"We have put sanctions on several of their cabinet members," said Mnuchin. "We have more that we are planning to do if they don't release him quickly."

Earlier, US President Donald Trump

prefaced Mnuchin's remarks by saying that Turkey had not been a very good friend to the US. He later tweeted that the clergyman was a "great patriot" being held "hostage".

Home Front: Culture Wars
Sir Ben Kingsley: Another Holocaust Is ‘Going to Come from a Very Surprising Place'
Is Mr. Kingsley so trite as to imply that it will be America, or is he referring to Iran’s intended nuclear eradication of the Zionist experiment? Because if he means America, he clearly is under the misapprehension that the American Jewish population is neatly clustered in one place for ease of destruction, rather than spread across the entire country.
[PJ] WASHINGTON ‐ Sir Ben Kingsley, the Academy Award-winning actor who stars in the new film Operation Finale, told PJM that another Holocaust will come from a "very surprising place."

Kingsley, who won an Oscar for Gandhi, plays Adolf Eichmann, one of the key architects of the Holocaust, in Operation Finale, which tells the story of Nazi hunters finding and capturing Eichmann in 1960.

Kingsley recently warned that downplaying the humanity of Holocaust victims puts the world at risk of genocide happening again.

"If we dismiss them in a sort of capsule, an aberration of history, saying ’well, they weren’t really human, so they don’t count,’ then we’re really letting history off the hook and we are in grave danger of allowing it to happen again," Kingsley said during a recent interview.

PJM asked Kingsley why he is concerned about another Holocaust.

"I'll tell you who told me it might happen ‐ that it probably could happen again: that's Simon Wiesenthal and Elie Wiesel, have both said that openly and publicly. So it is not for me to voice that concern. What do I know?" Kingsley said at the Washington premiere of Operation Finale on Wednesday evening at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum.

"I'm just an actor but they are the voice of the Holocaust, and if those men are saying that then we better sit up and listen. And I'm not saying it's going to come from Europe. I'm not saying it's going to come from any part of the world that we think it's going to come from. It's not. It's going to come from a very surprising place," he added.

Europe
Muslim couple denied Swiss citizenship over handshake refusal
Geneva (AFP) - The Swiss city of Lausanne has blocked a Muslim couple's bid to become Swiss nationals over their refusal to shake hands with members of the opposite sex.

The municipality said it refused to grant the couple's citizenship application over their lack of respect for gender equality, Lausanne mayor Gregoire Junod told AFP.

He said a municipal commission had questioned the couple several months ago to determine if they met the criteria for citizenship, but had determined in the ruling made public Friday that they missed the mark on integration.

He refused to divulge the couple's nationalities or other identifying details, but said they "did not shake hands with people of the opposite sex."

They also "showed great difficulty in answering questions asked by people of the opposite sex," he said.

Some devout Muslims argue that Islam does not permit physical contact with a person of the opposite sex, with the exception of certain immediate family members.

Junod pointed out that freedom of belief and religion is enshrined in the laws of the Canton of Vaud, which encompasses Lausanne.

But "religious practice does not fall outside the law," he stressed.

His vice-mayor, Pierre-Antoine Hildbrand, who was on the three-member commission that questioned the couple told AFP he was "very satisfied with the decision" to deny the couple's application.

"The constitution and equality between men and women prevails over bigotry," he said.

The couple has 30 days to appeal the decision, Junod said.

This is not the first time refused handshakes have stirred tensions in Switzerland.

In 2016, there was national uproar over revelations that a middle school in the north of the country had allowed two Syrian brothers not to shake their teachers' hands after they complained that doing so was counter to their religious beliefs if the teacher was a woman.

This ran counter to a deeply entrenched Swiss tradition of students shaking their teacher's hands as a sign of respect, and amid the outcry regional authorities quickly overruled the school's decision.

Medical Staff Abandon Hospitals in Cameroon's Troubled Region
[All Africa] Medical staff are fleeing hospitals in Cameroon
...a long, narrow country that fills the space between Nigeria and Chad on the northeast, CAR to the southeast. Prior to incursions by Boko Haram nothing ever happened there, and now just look...
's troubled English-speaking regions after attacks this month left several nurses dead and many others maimed. Medics say they are stuck between a military that accuses them of aiding armed separatists and rebel fighters who say hospitals betray them to the army.

Elvis Ndansi, of the Cameroon trade union of nurses, says the killings and abuse provoked outrage in the medical corps.

"The military comes, chase them out of the hospital, brutalize them, beat them. As medical personnel, we all stand to condemn these acts and say they are very wrong. Medical personnel are supposed to be protected in times of war. They are there to take care of all casualties, be they from the military, be they from the Ambazonians or secessionists. Their role is to save lives," Ndansi said.

Governor Bernard Okalia Bilai of the English-speaking southwest region denies the military is responsible for the attacks, saying the separatists seeking an English-speaking state in Cameroon are the ones to blame. He says he has instructed the military to protect hospitals from armed gangs.

Despite the danger of traveling in the region, hundreds of medics showed up Wednesday for a funeral to honor Nancy Azah and her husband Njong Padisco. The couple, both nurses, were rubbed out last week, reportedly by Cameroonian troops.

Nurse Arrey Rose says the association of nurses called on the medical community to show solidarity by attending the funeral service.

"We have mobilized to let the world know that doctors, nurses, laboratory technicians and pharmacists are tortured and killed just for saving lives," Rose said. "God spared mine when I was pulled out of hospital and beaten just because I was accused of hiding terrorists. Many are dead, many are maimed."

Ahrar Al-Sham elects new leader in Syria
[ALMASDARNEWS] Harakat Ahrar al-Sham
...a Syria jihadi group made up of Islamists and salafists, not that there's that much difference, formed into a brigade. They make up the main element of the Islamic Front but they don't profess adoration of al-Qaeda and they've been fighting (mainly for survival) against the Islamic State. Their leadership was wiped out at a single blow by a suicide kaboom at a crowded basement meeting in September, 2014...
elected a new leader this week after holding their annual leadership conference.

Harakat Ahrar al-Sham is now part of the Syrian National Liberation Front, which is under the command of the Ottoman Turkish Armed Forces.
According to the Islamist group, Jaber ’Ali Basha has been elected as the leader of Harakat Ahrar al-Sham, replacing Hassan Soufan after his short tenure in power.

Basha, 34, was born in the Idlib Governorate town of Binnish in 1984; he has been a member of the Islamist group since their inception.

Many opposition activists, commanders, and fighters have criticized this move via social media because Basha has virtually no experience in any leadership role.

Other opposition activists claimed that Basha was elected because The Sick Man of Europe Turkey

was pressuring Harakat Ahrar al-Sham to replace their former leader.

Egypt to close Rafah border crossing during Eid Al-Adha
[AlAhram] Egypt will close its Rafah border crossing with the Gazoo Strip for several days during the Islamic Eid al-Adha holiday.

According to state agency MENA, the border will be closed on Friday and Saturday, and will reopen on Sunday 19 August.

It will then close on Monday 20 August, the day before the three-day Eid al-Adha festival, and reopen on Saturday 25 August.

The Rafah border crossing is the main gateway to the outside world for 1.8 million Paleostinians living in the Gazoo Strip, and is the only crossing point not controlled by Israel.

Egypt usually keeps the border crossing closed citing security concerns, opening it periodically for short periods, often including major Islamic holidays.

Five Turkish-backed rebels defect to SDF in Manbij
[ALMASDARNEWS] At least five members of the Ottoman Turkish-backed Free Syrian Army
... the more palatable version of the Syrian insurgency, heavily influenced by the Moslem Brüderbund...
(FSA) defected to the US-backed Manbij Military Council of Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), the latter reported via their official media wing.

The defectors said they left the FSA due to the ongoing looting and killing that is being done by the Turkish-backed rebels.
According to their report, the five FSA fighters reached the SDF’s lines this week after abandoning their posts in northern Aleppo.

The Manbij Military Council said that at least ten fighters have defected to their side this month, including these five members of the Free Syrian Army that just recently joined forces with them.

The defectors said they left the FSA due to the ongoing looting and killing that is being done by the Ottoman Turkish-backed rebels.

They added that the Ottoman Turkish Army is in full control of all those groups, but they have not stopped the wide-scale looting and killing that is taking place in the area.

Alliance unravels as PPP refuses to vote for Shahbaz
[DAWN] The opposition alliance has fallen apart before even taking off after the Pakistain Peoples Party (PPP) decided to "abstain" from today’s vote in the National Assembly for the office of prime minister due to refusal of the Pakistain Moslem League-Nawaz (PML-N) to replace its candidate, making the contest a one-sided affair.

Besides the PPP, the one-man Jamaat-e-Islami
...The Islamic Society, founded in 1941 in Lahore by Maulana Sayyid Abul Ala Maududi, aka The Great Apostosizer. The Jamaat opposed the independence of Bangladesh but has operated an independent branch there since 1975. It maintains close ties with international Mohammedan groups such as the Moslem Brotherhood. the Taliban, and al-Qaeda. The Jamaat's objectives are the establishment of a pure Islamic state, governed by Sharia law. It is distinguished by its xenophobia, and its opposition to Westernization, capitalism, socialism, secularism, and liberalist social mores...
(JI) ‐ which had contested the July 25 elections from the platform of Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) with four other religious parties ‐ has also decided to stay away from the election for PM office on Friday (today). This is despite the fact that the Jamaat Ulema-e-Islam
...Assembly of Islamic Clergy, or JUI, is a Pak Deobandi (Hanafi) political party. There are two main branches, one led by Maulana Fazlur Rahman, and one led by Maulana Samiul Haq. Fazl is active in Pak politix and Sami spends more time running his madrassah. Both branches sponsor branches of the Taliban, though with plausible deniability...
(JUI-F) ‐ the main component of the MMA ‐ is insisting that they should vote for PML-N nominee Shahbaz Sharif
...Pak dynastic politician, brother of PM Nawaz Sharif, chief minister of Punjab...
in line with the decision taken at the multi-party conference held in Islamabad earlier this month.

Sources told Dawn that using backdoor channels, the PML-N contacted the PPP leadership many times throughout the day on Thursday, asking it to review its decision in the larger interest of the opposition’s unity, but the PPP refused to reverse its decision.

A PPP front man, Senator Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar, said the party after a meeting had decided that its members would vote for neither Shahbaz Sharif nor Imran Khan

KEK Wars, Part 3
[EcoSophia] There's one more detail of chan culture you need to know to follow what happened. Each post on a chan site gets assigned an eight digit number by the board software. The poster has no way of knowing what the number will be until the post goes up, and it became first a running joke and then a minor obsession to look for repeated digits‐say, the 333 in 14186333. A doubled digit is a "dub," a tripled digit a "trip," and so on. Any repeating digit is a "get."

The moment Donald Trump declared his candidacy, a significant number of /pol/ participants rallied to his cause. It was a match made in‐well, probably not heaven, but you get the point: Trump's brashness and the sheer parodic potential of a reality TV star running for US president made him an instant favorite on /pol/, and so did his loud rejection of the conventional wisdom of US politics. There Was No Alternative until Trump offered one, calling for a massive pruning of Federal regulation, a rejection of free-trade ideology, and an end to the tacit encouragement of illegal immigration: the elimination, that is, of the three core elements of the policies that crushed the American working class. For obvious reasons, all this went over extremely well in the venues we're discussing.

Then people on /pol/ started noticing that posts referencing Trump were fielding an unusually high number of "gets."

By this time some of the Trump supporters on /pol/ were learning chaos magic and putting it to work on behalf of their candidate. Memes putting Trump's hair on Pepe the Frog, setting Trump and Pepe side by side as running mates, or involving Pepe in the Trump campaign in other ways, were blossoming all over the chans and spreading out into the internet. Loud kekking arose as pro-Trump posts fielded "get" after "get"‐and then June 19, 2016 came around, and some anonymous user typed in "Trump will win" in response to a long string of irrelevant posts, and hit the enter button.

That turned out to be post number 77777777.
Do you believe in magic?

Afghanistan
Mattis Says Further Taliban Assaults Likely in Weeks ahead
[AnNahar] The Taliban
...Arabic for students...
is likely to keep up its recent surge of violence in advance of scheduled parliamentary elections in October but Western-backed Afghan defenses will not break, U.S. Defense Secretary Jim Mattis said Thursday.

In his most detailed comments on the Taliban's assault on the eastern city of Ghazni since it began Aug. 10, Mattis said the Taliban had six objectives in and around the city and failed to seize any of them. He would not specify the six sites.

In Ghazni, provincial police chief Farid Mashal said Thursday that roads were being cleared of mines planted by Taliban who temporarily held entire neighborhoods of the city that they had besieged. The fighting continued for five days with more than 100 members of the Afghan National Security forces killed and 20 civilians. Scores of Taliban were also killed, according to Afghan officials.

Mattis said some Taliban fighters were still holed up in houses in the city "trying to get resupplied." He said businesses are reopening, and overall, "it's much more stable" in Ghazni, showing that the Taliban have fallen short.

"They have not endeared themselves, obviously, to the population of Ghazni," Mattis said. "They use terror. They use bombs because they can't win with ballots."

The Taliban operation followed a familiar pattern, Mattis said in remarks to news hounds flying with him Thursday evening to Bogota, Colombia, where he was winding up a weeklong tour of South America.

The bandidos Lion of Islams likely were trying to gain leverage in advance of an expected cease fire offer by Afghanistan's Caped President Ashraf Ghani
...former chancellor of Kabul University, now president of Afghanistan. Before returning to Afghanistan in 2002 he was a scholar of political science and anthropology. He worked at the World Bank working on international development assistance. As Finance Minister of Afghanistan between July 2002 and December 2004, he led Afghanistan's attempted economic recovery until the Karzais stole all the money. ..
, he said. And they likely were hoping to sow fear in advance of the October elections, he added.

"They achieved a degree of disquiet," he said, but nothing more.

"So we'll continue to see this sort of thing," he said, even though the Taliban lack the strength to hold territory they seize for brief periods. "They will never hold against the Afghan army."

The Afghan war has been stalemated for years. The Taliban lack the popular support to prevail, although they benefit from sanctuary in Pakistain. Afghan government forces, on the other hand, are too weak to decisively break the bandidos Lion of Islams even as they develop under U.S. and NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. A collection of multinational and multilingual and multicultural armed forces, all of differing capabilities, working toward a common goal by pulling in different directions...
training and advising.

Mattis has said he believes the Afghan cops are gaining momentum and can wear down the Taliban to the point where the bandidos Lion of Islams would choose to talk peace. So far that approach has not produced a breakthrough.

Next week will mark one year since President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
announced a revised war strategy for Afghanistan, declaring there would be no time limit on U.S. support for the war and making a renewed push for peace negotiations.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Zimbabwe: $1m Gold Vanishes From Armoury
[All Africa] GOLD worth about $1 million has vanished from an armoury at Plumtree Police Station in Matabeleland South Province, in what ranks as arguably the biggest theft from a cop shoppe.

The gold, weighing 28,5kg, was being kept as an exhibit at the station since September 2015.

Sources said the total value of the stolen gold was $970 000 and nothing was recovered.

The yellow metal was being kept at the cop shoppe after Border Control and Minerals Unit intercepted it at Plumtree Border Post from a man who sought to smuggle it into Botswana.

The unknown suspect tore khaki paper in which the gold was wrapped and stole all of it, leaving the papers in a bucket in the armoury.

The theft was discovered on Wednesday at around 11am by officers who were on duty.

Sources said the theft came to light as coppers were searching for two missing rifles that had been booked in the charge office.

When an officer went to check at the armoury for the missing rifles, he was surprised to find the armoury door not locked.

"When he proceeded to the armoury intending to open the armoury, he observed that there was a key inserted on the key hole of the armoury door," said a source.

"Officers discovered that the door was not locked. One of the officers who had knowledge about the gold kept in the armoury as an exhibit proceeded to the bucket where the gold weighing 28,5297kg was kept wrapped in a khaki paper and discovered that the khaki paper was torn and the gold was missing.

"However,
Switzerland makes more than cheese...
the khaki papers were left in the bucket."

Investigations were under way.

Contacted for comment yesterday, Police chief national spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba said she was checking on the matter.

However,
Switzerland makes more than cheese...
in 2015, Snr Asst Comm Charamba said the gold which was being kept at the Plumtree Police Station was seized from a suspect identified as Pudohope James Rove who was tossed in the calaboose
Drop the gat, Rocky, or you're a dead 'un!
trying to smuggle it into Botswana.

She said the suspect had hidden the gold in a secret compartment in his vehicle's loading box.

Snr Asst Comm Charamba said then that the suspect was driving a Toyota Hilux truck and was on his way to Botswana when he was intercepted at the exit gate after completing all Immigration and Zimra formalities.

Police detectives who were on duty stopped the vehicle and conducted a search.

They discovered a false compartment in the loading box and upon carrying further searches, they discovered 76 pieces of smelted gold which had a total weight of 28,541kg.

Police Raid Anti-Pipeline Site, Destroy Their Camp And Send Them Straight To Jail
[DAILYCALLER] Law enforcement ended a lingering standoff with an anti-pipeline camp site, arresting five protesters and destroying all the makeshift homes that were built.

Intense opposition has centered around the Trans Mountain pipeline project, an expansion proposal that will ultimately stretch from Alberta to British Columbia’s west coast. Construction workers for Kinder Morgan, North America’s largest infrastructure company, have been subjected to numerous environmental protests as they continue to work on the $7.4 billion-dollar crude oil pipeline.

A group of environmental protesters have long congregated in a camp near a Kinder Morgan tank farm in Burnaby, British Columbia. For the past several months, Camp Cloud ‐ the name of the protest camp site ‐ had grown in size. Starting with a single trailer in November, Camp Cloud had grown to include numerous vehicles and trailers, a cabin, an outdoor shower, a two-story wooden "house," and numerous tents.

For months, the camp site served as a hub of local protest against the Trans Morgan pipeline. However,
a woman is only as old as she admits...
law enforcement finally put an end to the camp on Thursday.

Police raided the camp site Thursday morning, removing 11 people and arresting five. Once the protesters were cleared out, city employees dismantled the camp, which included bulldozing the haphazardly built homes and confiscating numerous items such as garbage, mattress pads, tables and night stands.

"Camp Cloud is not going anywhere," said George Manuel, according to the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. Manuel had been living in the camp for over four months and was among those that got incarcerated
Yez got nuttin' on me, coppers! Nuttin'!
. "A cloud ‐ it can dissipate. It can come apart and become more than one cloud. It can be many things ... we are not going anywhere."

Manuel was far from the only one taking up permanent residence at the now-deposed site.

A family of four had been living at Camp Cloud. It appears the camp site was their only living arrangement. Upon being evicted, the family has since taken emergency shelter with the help of social services.

Camp Cloud’s demise came after a judge granted the city of Burnaby an injunction ordering all the protesters ‐ and their camp structures ‐ be removed. Many of the protesters, however, had defiantly chosen to stay, which ultimately resulted in police action.

Some nearby residents expressed relief that they are finally gone.

"When you have trouble, you nip it in the bud," said John Templeton. "We’ve been severely impacted by the protesters in our neighborhood. It seems the approach by the city has been to aid, abet and accommodate the protesters over the rest of the neighborhood who are taxpaying citizens."

For almost a year, citizens of the town had urged the city government to get rid of protest camp.

Syriac Christians hold first Lady Day festival since defeat of IS
[ALMASDARNEWS] Syriac Christian worshipers in Tal Baloua, near Tal Tamer, attended the first Feast of the Assumption of Mary (Lady Day festival) held in the town for six years, on Thursday.

(IS, formerly ISIS/ISIS).

The church itself was heavily damaged by IS turbans during their occupation of the village in 2015. Despite restoration work, parts of the building remain severely damaged.

Most Assyrians in the region were driven out during an IS assault three years ago. Hundreds of those who remained were taken into captivity, with many only released after the payment of ransom. Some were also executed.

IS destroyed numerous Assyrian churches before local and Kurdish fighters forced them from the area. Many Assyrian villages have now been turned into dilapidated ghost towns, with their inhabitants having fled abroad.

Before the conflict, an estimated 20,000-40,000 Assyrians lived in Syria, most of them residing in settlements along the Khabur River such as Tal Tamer. Today, reports citing local activists say there are around 1,000 Assyrians left in the country, with most having fled Syria.

Darfur Rebels Strengthen Foothold in Libya, Says UN Report
[AnNahar] Rebel groups from Sudan's Darfur region are strengthening their foothold in Libya, building up their military strength in a bid to return to Sudan and fight on, according to a confidential report seen by AFP on Wednesday.

"In recent months, most of the Darfur rebel groups have consolidated their presence in Libya," said the 53-page report sent to the Security Council this month.

US threatens China with sanctions for Iranian oil imports
[ALMASDARNEWS] A senior US official has said that China is likely to buy even more Iranian oil after the sanctions which it describes as "long-armed jurisdiction."

Washington is prepared to slap sanctions on all countries that continue buying oil from Iran after the November deadline, including China, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing the new US special representative for Iran, Brian Hook.

"The United States certainly hopes for full compliance by all nations in terms of not risking the threat of US secondary sanctions if they continue with those transactions," Hook said.

He added, however, that the US would issue waivers from sanctions to countries that have made efforts to reduce their purchases of Iranian oil.

Earlier this month, Washington re-imposed the first wave of sanctions on Tehran targeting the country’s exports, banking system and its ability to access the global financial system, with the second wave slated to follow on November 4.

China, who is a major buyer of Iranian oil, has so far resisted Washington’s demand to end its purchase of Iranian crude arguing that the country’s cooperation with Tehran does not harm anyone else’s interests and, therefore, should be exempted from US sanctions.

Earlier this month, China’s Foreign Ministry said that Beijing’s commercial ties with Iran were "reasonable and fully in line with pertinent resolutions by the UN Security Council."

In July a senior US official was quoted by the Wall Street Journal as saying that Washington though it highly likely that China would even increase its purchases of Iranian oil once the US sanctions are re-imposed in full.

One Dead as Tunisia Security Forces Arrest Migrants
[AnNahar] A migrant died early Friday as Tunisian security forces clashed with a group of Tunisians and Africans embarking on a clandestine sea crossing to Italia, a security official said.

The police intervened to stop a boat that had been launched off the coast of the central city of Sfax at around 2:30 am (0130 GMT), said Tunisia's National Guard front man Houssemeddine Jebabli.

He said passengers on the vessel had thrown Molotov cocktails at security forces before setting fire to the boat and attempting to flee.

Four Tunisians were incarcerated
Maw! They're comin' to get me, Maw!
along with eight migrants colonists from the Ivory Coast and two from Congo, he said, adding that one of them was hospitalized for burns without specifying which one.

A 15th passenger was found dead, and operations were underway to find any other bodies from the boat.

A growing number of Tunisians are embarking on risky journeys across the Mediterranean Sea to seek work and a better life in Europe.

In the first half of 2018, nearly 2,660 people were arrested in Tunisia during attempts to make the crossing, Jebabli said, compared with just 564 over the same period the previous year.

Several deadly shipwrecks have taken place in recent months, including one on June 3 that killed 87 people.

Yazidi leader killed in air strike by Turkey four years after genocide
[Jpost] On Wednesday, hundreds of Yazidis, members of a religious minority in Iraq, gathered in the village of Kocho to commemorate the 2014 genocide perpetrated by Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
. Hundreds of families in the village were systematically separated. The women and kiddies sold as slaves, while the men machine-gunned, and their bodies dumped in mass graves. An hour after the ceremony was over, an air strike hit one of the trucks that had departed, killing several people.

Among the victims was a mustachioed 66-year-old man nicknamed Zaki Shingali, known among local Yazidis as a brave fighter who had fought ISIS and saved people in 2014. Sometimes called "Mam Zaki" or "Uncle Zaki," he was a wanted man across the border in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey

Russian MoD shows improvised militant drones used in failed attack n Hmeymim Airbase
[ALMASDARNEWS] Russia’s Ministry of Defence showed journalists from around the world on Thursday the improvised drones used by Syrian Lion of Islam forces in a failed attack on the Hmeymim Airbase.

"All these devices attempted to attack the airbase and they were launched from the northwest, from the Idlib area," Chief Spokesman for the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation Igor Konashenkov said.

According to officials, there were five attacks on the base in recent days, all of which were repelled by Russian anti-air defence systems.

"These flying machines can fly over 100 kilometers, some of them ‐ even up to 200 [kilometers]. We can see that the control and navigation systems are getting more refined. Some machines can remain airborne for up to four hours. Their speed is around 50 km/h," Konashenkov said.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Christopher Steele Told DOJ’s Bruce Ohr He Was ‘Afraid They Will Be Exposed’ After Comey’s Firing
[DAILYCALLER] Dossier author Remington Christopher Steele told Justice Department official Bruce Ohr after James Comey’s firing last year that he was "afraid they will be exposed."

What exactly Steele was concerned about having exposed after Comey’s May 9, 2017 firing is not made clear in Ohr’s notes, which were reported by Fox News.

The text message is part of a trove of emails, text messages and handwritten notes that the Justice Department has provided to Congress as part of an investigation into the government’s handling of the Steele dossier.

Steele told Ohr in a May 10, 2017 phone call that he was "very concerned abt Comey’s firing ‐ afraid they will be exposed," according to Fox.

Steele’s interactions with Ohr have been a focal point for congressional Republicans in their investigation into the government’s possible abuse of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act. The dossier, which Steele wrote on behalf of the Clinton campaign and DNC, was used to obtain FISA warrants on former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page. Republicans say that the dossier was not verified when the FBI used it to obtain the spy warrants.

Page, an energy consultant who joined the Trump team in March 2016, has vehemently denied the dossier’s allegations about him. In the 35-page report, Steele alleges that Page was the Trump campaign’s main contact to the Kremlin.

Justice Department documents given to Congress show that Steele and Ohr were in contact all throughout 2016 and 2017, though Ohr’s involvement was not revealed until December. Following a report from Fox News on Ohr’s contacts with Steele and Fusion GPS founder Glenn Simpson, he was demoted as assistant deputy attorney general at the Justice Department.

In his first address to the National Assembly, Bilawal delivered what many considered to be a mature and well-rounded speech that touched on all the necessary points needed to be said.

Senior journalist, Zahid Hussain, lauded Bilawal for delivering "a measured and mature speech in English".

TV anchor, Kashif Abbasi, who was "already impressed with the [young politician's] election campaign" tweeted: "The more I hear his mature speech, the more impressed I am. [He] talk[ed] about problems, talk[ed] about challenges. He is the opposition so he will do some politics also."

Manafort’s Judge Is Under Federal Protection After Wave Of Threats
[DAILYCALLER] Judge T.S. Ellis III revealed in open court Friday that he has received death threats relating to his presiding over Paul Manafort’s trial for bank and tax fraud at a federal court in Alexandria, Virginia.

The judge has since retained the protection of the U.S. Marshals Service.

"I have the marshal’s protection," Ellis said. "I don’t even go to the hotel alone. I won’t even reveal the name of the hotel."

"I had no idea this case excited this emotion in the public," he added.

Ellis made the comments after a coalition of news organizations ‐ including The Washington Post, The New York Times

...which still proudly displays Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize...

, the News Agency that Dare Not be Named, CNN, NBC, Politico and BuzzFeed ‐ requested the names and addresses of jurors seated for Manafort’s case.

"There is no reason to believe that extraordinary circumstances exist that would justify keeping jurors’ names sealed ‐ particularly after they have rendered their verdict," their motion reads.

But Ellis disagreed, and rejected the motion for fear the jurors would be subject to the same harassment he has received.

"I don’t feel it’s right if I release their names," he said.

On Friday afternoon, the jury sent a note to the judge indicating they had not yet reached a verdict and hoped to adjourn for the day.

#7  I was on a Jury where the defendant sure "looked" guilty...
But when they got down to the evidence: the sole 'witness' was a delivery driver that could be influenced by the store manager that obviously hated the defendant, there was no physical inventory at shift change earlier that morning (was it one carton of shoplifted cigarettes as initially reported and ignored by the police -or- the two(+) that a later count "discovered" and they felt like investigating?), and finally no physical evidence whatsoever (no CCTV Tape, no fingerprints, no cigarettes in the defendant's possession,nada)...

Not Guilty. No trip to the State Pen... Could the Defendant have been a Pusher using the public telephone and a pager to conduct business outside her convenience store...? *Shrug* Could be, but that isn't the charge. The whole experience left me underwhelmed by the local DA.
