The F-35 Stumbles Again as Test Chief Find a New Weakness: Cyberattacks
By the time we get this turkey flying, it will be an antique.
The software onboard the Pentagon's multi-billion dollar F-35 Joint Strike Fighter might make the next-generation aircraft so vulnerable to cyberattacks that its pilots end up wishing they were flying something a bit less sophisticated.

The F-35's logistics system "continues to struggle in development with ... a complex architecture with likely (but largely untested) cyber deficiencies," according to a memo written last month by the Pentagon's top weapons tester that was obtained by IHS Jane's 360.

The official also raised concerns about possible delays in the aircraft's combat software development. When completed, the fighter is supposed to run on more than eight million lines of code, according to Lockheed Martin, the plane's manufacturer.

The development is a sign that despite recent positive steps by the F-35 program -- including the news that it would make its debut at two major United Kingdom air shows this summer after a two-year delay -- the world's most expensive weapon is not turbulence-free just yet.

The news of software problems is likely to put even the fighter's most ardent supporters on edge. In 2009, Chinese hackers are suspected of stealing the F-35's blueprints. U.S. officials claim no classified information was taken in the breach, but concerns have lingered that the jet's software was laid bare.

A spokesman for the Pentagon's F-35 joint program office told Jane's that the agency had conducted over 2,000 cyber tests on the aircraft, including 300 last year, but admitted there is a potential for the software schedule to fall behind, for up to four months.

Defense officials still plan to get the plane with the most advanced software ready by summer 2017, but as of this month development flight testing has completed only half of its test, the F-35 office told Jane's.

#1  I dunno about this code shit, i bet will bet most of it is in machine language. Well the Corsair nor the Phantom used this stuff, it's okay for teevees and citizens radios, but a serious aircraft is hydraulic and analog, always been that way, also needs a gun for dawg fights and should not cost more than an average SUV, be built in America by line workers making $32 per hour and be bug free off the line. APU should be a 426 Hemi. Wake up sheeaples and smell the cocoa!

Retire the A-10 reopen the line for the SkyRaider.

Critics are now bashing Israel's pro-democracy efforts
h/t Instapundit
If you believe Israel's relentless critics in the media and now in the State Department, Israeli democracy is on death's door.

The irony is, this accusation comes in response to Israel's efforts to actually preserve and strengthen democracy from the forces that seek to weaken it.

The fuss is about Israel's proposed law requiring transparency from political organizations in our country funded by foreign governments.

...Here are the facts about the proposed law:

It doesn't prohibit any activity whatsoever. Even entities funded entirely by foreign governments will still be free to do and say whatever they want in Israel.

But -- and this is crucial -- the groups that claim to be nongovernmental but are actually instruments of foreign governments will be acknowledged as such.

The bill does one thing and one thing only: When more than half of an entity's funding comes from foreign governments, it must disclose that fact and the amount of funding from those governments. That's it.

It's similar to several statutes in the United States. Both the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA) and more recent laws adopted by Congress impose special disclosure requirements on individuals and organizations funded by foreign governments. There's a simple reason for such requirements. Without them, organizations held out as NGOs -- that is supposed to mean nongovernmental organizations -- operate as stealth diplomats funded by foreign governments without saying so.

This lets them do what diplomats do -- press other countries for actions and policies they favor -- without any of the consequences, trade-offs and publicity that proper diplomacy entails. In the intelligence world, entities that do these things are called "agents of influence."Every country tries to identify such groups.

That's the purpose of the extensive US regulation for such entities, starting with FARA enacted back in 1938, and continuing with an array of other laws and regulations put in place since then.

About $66 million flows into these groups from European governments. The European Union itself, Norway and Germany are the largest such donors.

Additionally, Israel's proposed law is, in fact, milder than existing US law in important ways:

In the United States, these are criminal statutes -- punishable by up to five years in jail. Israel's law has no criminal component.

US law determines who are "agents" of foreign "principals" using a complicated and vague legal test that leaves room for uncertainty, further threatening to chill political speech. Israel's test is simple: If a majority of an entity's money comes from foreign governments, they're covered. If not, they're not.

Beest's Chief Of Staff Lost Her Personal Blackberry containing Classified Emails
[Daily Caller] While working as Hillary Clinton's chief of staff at the State Department, Cheryl Mills lost her personal Blackberry, on which she sent emails that the State Department has determined contain classified information.
One of the reasons classified documents and systems are kept in a SCIF, but I suppose we're a bit beyond that point in the discussion.
Records obtained by The Daily Caller through a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit show Mills revealed that she lost her Blackberry in a March 20, 2010 email she sent to Bryan Pagliano, the State Department IT staffer who managed Clinton's private email server.

"Somewhere b/w my house and the plane to nyc yesterday my personal bb got misplaced; no on [sic] is answering it thought [sic] I have called," Mills wrote from her personal email account to the address Pagliano used when he worked on Hillary Clinton's 2008 presidential campaign.

Other State Department records indicate that Mills' personal Blackberry appears to have been synced with her Gmail account. Many of the emails she sent from the personal account include footers which show they were sent from a Blackberry powered by AT&T.

Additional from Reuters on the Oregon occupation shooting
[Reuters] The leader of an armed occupation at a federal wildlife refuge in Oregon and others were arrested on Tuesday after shots were fired during a traffic stop, leaving one person dead and another wounded, the FBI said.

Protesters were still occupying the remote Malheur National Wildlife Refuge in eastern Oregon after leader Ammon Bundy's arrest and the Federal Bureau of Investigation was setting up a perimeter with the hopes of a peaceful resolution, a law enforcement official told Reuters.

A total of eight people were arrested in two states.

The takeover at Malheur that started Jan. 2 is the latest flare-up in the so-called Sagebrush Rebellion, a decades-old conflict over the U.S. government's control of millions acres of land in the West.

Several media outlets, including the Oregonian and CNN, reported that law enforcement sources said LaVoy Finicum was killed. Finicum, a rancher who acted as a spokesman for the occupiers, told NBC News earlier this month that he would rather die than be arrested.

"There are things more important than your life, and freedom is one of them," he said in the NBC interview.

Bundy and four leaders of the occupation were taken into custody following the confrontation along Highway 395 in northeast Oregon around 4:25 p.m. local time (0025 GMT), according to the FBI.

A sixth individual was arrested by the Oregon State Police in Burns, Oregon, about 1.5 hours later. The FBI said a seventh person was later arrested, 50-year-old Peter Santilli, an independent journalist who livestreamed events at the refuge.

The FBI said they also arrested an eighth person in Peoria, Arizona, in relation to the occupation.

All of those arrested face federal charges of conspiracy to use force, intimidation or threats to impede federal officers from discharging their duties, the FBI said.

The Oregonian reported that Bundy had been en route to a community meeting in John Day, Oregon, with several other members of the occupation, where he was scheduled to be a guest speaker, when authorities stopped his vehicle.

The newspaper said 43-year-old Ryan Bundy, Ammon's brother, was injured in the arrest, suffering a minor gunshot wound. Authorities did not release the identity of the person killed, but added that he was the subject of a federal probable cause arrest.

Some 25 miles (40 km) of Highway 395 was shut down in both directions following the incident, a dispatcher for the state department of transportation said. The highway was expected to remain closed as authorities investigate the shooting.

The occupiers of the wildlife refuge said they were supporting two local ranchers who were returned to prison this month for setting fires that spread to federal land. The ranchers' lawyer has said the occupiers do not speak for the family.

Burns Mayor Craig LaFollette told Reuters that while he had limited information about the night's events, he hoped the stand-off would come to a peaceful end.

"I think my perception is that people's patience was running thin and that the community as a whole was looking for some resolution and to have these people leave," he said.

Law enforcement officials had largely kept their distance from the buildings at the refuge, 30 miles (48 km) south of the small town of Burns in rural southeast Oregon's Harney County, in the hope of avoiding a violent confrontation.

Local residents have expressed a mixture of sympathy for the Hammond family, suspicion of the federal government's motives and frustration with the occupation.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Syria Regime Forces, Hizbullah Capture Key Southern Rebel Town
[AnNahar] Syrian pro-government forces captured a strategic southern rebel town close to the Jordanian border after weeks of fighting, a monitor said on Tuesday.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said regime troops and allied fighters, including Hizbullah
...Party of God, a Leb militia inspired, founded, funded and directed by Iran. Hizbullah refers to itself as The Resistance and purports to defend Leb against Israel, with whom it has started and lost one disastrous war to date, though it did claim victory...
members and Iranian officers, "seized control of Sheikh Miskeen" with the help of Russian and Syrian government air strikes.

The town, in Daraa province, lies on a vital crossroads between Damascus to the north and the government-controlled city of Sweida to the east.

It is 12 kilometers (seven miles) from the rebel stronghold of Nawa, another key target for regime forces.

A security source had told Agence La Belle France Presse the Sheikh Miskeen was a "launching pad" for rebel operations, and one of the opposition's "centers of gravity for the whole of Daraa province".

He said seizing control of the town would sever a rebel supply route to areas under opposition control around Damascus.

Last month, government troops captured the Brigade 82 base outside the town, and they have since been pushing to capture Sheikh Miskeen.

Most of Daraa province is controlled by opposition forces, though the government holds parts of the lovely provincial capital and a few villages in the northwest.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Syria still has chemical weapons
[Ynet] Analysis: A massacre by chemical weapons in Syria in 2013 led to Russia and the US forcing Assad to give up on his arsenal of non-conventional weapons. But recent reports suggest that the regime is using Sarin gas against the opposition -- and that the rebels themselves are using chemical weapons as well.

New reports emerging from the ground in Syria suggest that despite Assad's assertions in 2013 that he had disposed of his chemical weapons arsenal, his regime continues to fight in the civil war using non-conventional means.

The war, which will enter its sixth year in two months' time, has no end in sight. The number of victims of the conflict -- killed, injured, traumatized, etc -- continues to rapidly increase and intensive efforts to bring the two sides to the negotiating table have yet to bear real fruit.

Teen Charged in Australia with Terrorism Offenses
[AnNahar] Australian authorities have charged a teenager with collecting documents on ways to stage terrorist acts, officials said Tuesday, reportedly including advice on carrying out a successful stabbing and making a bomb.

The 18-year-old from the western Sydney suburb of Guildford was nabbed
Please don't kill me!
late Monday and charged with "three counts of collecting documents likely to facilitate terrorist acts", the New South Wales joint counter-terrorism team said.

The boy allegedly obtained an image of a document in Arabic "which provides instruction on how to carry out a successful stabbing attack, connected with the preparation for a terrorist attack", the Sydney Morning Herald reported, citing police charge sheets.

He also allegedly had an Arabic document that gives information on how to make an improvised bomb, the newspaper reported.
Sudden Jihad Syndrome, no doubt.
The images of the documents were allegedly collected by the teenager in December and January, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation reported, adding that one of them was allegedly published by Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula
...the latest incarnation of various Qaeda and Qaeda-allied groups, including the now-defunct Aden-Abyan Islamic Army that boomed the USS Cole in 2000...
The teenager, who appeared in a Sydney court Tuesday, did not apply for bail and will return to court on February 2. Media named him as Sameh Bayda.

Canberra has been increasingly concerned about home-grown extremism and raised the terror threat alert level to high in September 2014.

Authorities have conducted a series of counter-terrorism raids in various cities, while the government has passed new national security laws.

The government has also cracked down on Australians attempting to travel to conflict zones including Syria and Iraq.

A 17-year-old was last week charged with making threats on social media that led to Sydney's iconic Opera House being evacuated in a security scare.

In December five people including a 15-year-old boy were charged in Sydney over a terror plot targeting a government building.

And in October a civilian police employee was rubbed out by a boy, also 15, outside police headquarters in western Sydney. The teenager was killed in an exchange of gunfire with officers.

The accused, who had their faces muffled, were produced amidst tight security before District Judge Amar Nath during an in-camera proceeding.

According to the court sources, National Investigation Agency (NIA) sought their custodial interrogation saying that they were required to be quizzed to unearth the conspiracy of ISIS to spread its reach in India.

The sources said that the probe agency informed the court that the accused were arrested for allegedly planning to carry out attacks ahead of the Republic Day.

The 12 accused produced before the court were Abdul Ahad, Imran, Mohd Afzal, Mohd Sharif, Mubabiir Mushtaq Sheikh, Mohd Alim, Syed Mujahid, Suhail Ahmed, Asif Ali, Njmul Huda, Mohd Obaidullah Khan and Mohd Hussain Khan, the sources said.

These arrested accused were allegedly regularly in touch with active members of IS in Syria through internet chatting via Skype and other social networking apps, they said.

Many of these accused were allegedly assigned the work of recruiting operatives for the terror group, the sources said, adding that the accused were arrested from various places, including Bangalore, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Aurangabad.

Two suspected bandidos turbans -- Abu Anas and Nafees Khan, both aged 24 years -- were yesterday remanded in the custody of the central terror probe agency by the court for 13 days on the allegations that they had Islamic State

Suicide Bombings Kill 22 in Syria's Homs
[AnNahar] A double suicide kaboom killed at least 22 people Tuesday in the central Syrian city of Homs, state media said, in an attack claimed by the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. group.

State television said another 100 people were maimed in the blasts in the Al-Zahraa neighborhood of the city, which has been targeted in kabooms multiple times before.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a Britannia-based monitor, put the toll at 26 dead, including 16 members of regime forces.

Homs provincial governor Talal Barazi told AFP the two bombers appeared to have pulled up at an army checkpoint in a car together.

He said one exited the vehicle before the other detonated his explosives while still inside.

In the chaos of the first blast's aftermath, and as a crowd gathered, the second bomber struck, Barazi added.

Observatory chief Rami Abdel Rahman said the second jacket wallah had been wearing military clothes.

The Islamic State (IS) group claimed the attack in a statement circulated online, though it described the blast as the work of a single suicide bomber.

The Al-Zahraa district of Homs has been targeted in multiple kabooms in the past, including in late December, when 19 people were killed in several simultaneous blasts.

The residents of Al-Zahraa are mostly Alawites, the minority sect of Syria's ruling clan, and IS has in the past claimed attacks on the district.

Homs city was once dubbed the "capital" of Syria's uprising, which began with anti-government protests in March 2011.

But after years of devastating fighting and government sieges, most of the city is now back in regime hands, with the exception of the Waer district, which is being gradually turned over to the government under a deal with opposition fighters.

Israel says Hamas recruits Gazans with travel permits for terror
[IsraelTimes] IDF liaison in territories warns authorities may close border altogether if abuse of system persists

Israel's Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT) threatened in remarks published Tuesday to close all crossings with the Gazoo Strip should Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, continue to recruit workers entering Israel "for terrorist purposes."

"Hamas is exploiting the permits given to workers, those going to the West Bank, and those going to Israel, for the purpose of terrorism," the Paleostinian daily Al-Quds quoted Major-General Yoav Mordechai as saying. "This is going to make the Israeli authorities think twice before issuing permits, and we will perhaps close the border for entry by all Gazooks, if Hamas continues this policy."

Mordechai did not elaborate on exactly how the permits were being used by Hamas in terror activities.

He continued: "It appears that Hamas is preparing for war and does not care for the well-being of Gazooks. They are recruiting merchants, and this places an obstacle in the way of the economic plan put forward by the Israeli government and prevents those who come into Israel from praying at the Al-Aqsa mosque every Friday."

This "Israeli plan," he explained, "seeks to alleviate the economic hardship and support the economy in Gazoo, but this is being exploited by Hamas, and this acts against the interest of Gazooks."

He added that "Following the last war in Gazoo, Israel adopted a policy to stimulate the economy of Gazoo" and "issued 100 thousand entry permits during the year 2015 -- including for health, business, and religious reasons."
It's an easy way to recruit spies and get their reports...
According to a 2015 report, prepared ahead of the biannual meeting of the Ad Hoc Liaison Committee (AHLC), which coordinates international donor support for the Paleostinians, unemployment in Gazoo increased in 2014 "to reach 44 percent -- probably the highest in the world."

This is in addition to the poverty rate in the Paleostinian territory hovering around 39%, despite the fact that nearly four out of every five Gazooks receive "some aid."

"Gazoo's unemployment and poverty figures are very troubling and the economic outlook is worrying," the World Bank quoted Paleostinian territories director Steen Lau Jorgensen as saying.

For his part, Mordechai added "Hamas has imposed fees and taxes on all trucks that enter the strip, as well as on permits. These go towards supporting Hamas's activities and building their capabilities rather than to building schools and institutions."
They're a jihadi organization, so it's their right to do so.

At least 6 Palestinians said killed in Gaza tunnel collapse
Allah willed it. Clearly he no longer approves.
[IsraelTimes] Contact with the Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, diggers lost Tuesday night, Paleostinian media says; at least 5 reportedly hurt in incident

At least six Paleostinians have been reported killed in the collapse of a tunnel dug under the Hamas-run Gazoo Strip on Tuesday evening.

The incident occurred in the Al-Tuffah neighborhood of Gazoo City.

According to Israel's Channel 10 television, the six fatalities were all members of the Hamas terror group, as were the five others injured in the incident.

The Hebrew-language Walla website said seven people had been killed, and their bodies taken to the Shifa Hospital in Gazoo City. According to Walla, the tunnel collapsed due to severe weather conditions, including heavy rainfall.

The nature of the tunnel in question was not immediately clear. Hamas has in the past dug cross-border tunnels into Israel in order to stage attacks on civilians and soldiers. Other tunnels are used by the terror group as part of its defensive infrastructure.

The Strip has been subject to a blockade by both Egypt and Israel, designed in part to prevent the terror group from importing arms and building new tunnels reinforced with concrete.

Hamas has built dozens of tunnels into Israel, many of which were used to carry out attacks during their 2014 war. The IDF said it destroyed over 30 tunnels during Operation Protective Edge, but officials have expressed fear the terror group is seeking to rebuild the infrastructure.

In December, 14 Gazooks were rescued after a smuggling tunnel they were working in on the Egyptian border collapsed following deliberate flooding by Egypt.

The tunnel, located in the area of Rafah in the southern Gazoo Strip, was being used to smuggle goods across the border when it was flooded and collapsed, sparking an hours-long rescue effort by emergency crews.

According to Paleostinian media reports, the 14 were trapped and feared dead but managed to reach an unflooded section of the tunnel. They were then pulled to the surface by rescue crews from Gazoo's civil defense agency.

Egypt has embarked on a massive campaign aimed at stemming cross-border smuggling between Gazoo and Sinai, where they are fighting an insurgency by Islamist murderous Moslems.

The operation has included flooding hundreds of tunnels that once dotted the border region, and building a 500-meter-wide buffer zone filled with seawater.

Israel announces ‘severe cyberattack’ on electric company
[IsraelTimes] Israel's Energy Minister Yuval Steinitz says Israeli Electric Authority is being targeted by a "severe cyberattack."

Addressing the Cybertech Conference in Tel Aviv, Steinitz says the attack was discovered on Monday and that his ministry is "already handling it," along with the Israel National Cyber Bureau.

"The virus was already identified and the right software was already prepared to neutralize it," he sayd. "We had to paralyze many of the computers of the Israeli electricity authorities. We are handling the situation and I hope that soon, this very serious event will be over.

"This is a fresh example of the sensitivity of infrastructure to cyberattacks, and the importance of preparing ourselves in order to defend ourselves against such attacks."

He doesn't say whether Israel has identified any suspects in the attack.

Africa Horn
Kenya says troops to remain in Somalia despite retreat reports
Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) troops serving under the African Union mandate in Somalia will continue to pacify the Horn of Africa nation, a military official said Tuesday.

KDF spokesman David Obonyo also denied media reports that Kenyan soldiers are pulling out from areas in southern Somalia towards the border, saying they were only involved in operational tactics. He said Kenyan soldiers will continue serving under the African Union peacekeeping mission in Somalia (AMISOM), noting that the military has no immediate plans to withdraw its forces in the Horn of African nation.

“The reports are not true; we remain in our areas of responsibility as per the AMISOM deployment,” Obonyo told Xinhua by telephone.

Obonyo’s assurance comes amid reports that Kenyan forces are retreating from two military bases in southern Somalia, barely two weeks after Al-Shabaab militants attacked their camp there on Jan. 15.

Reports from Somalia said the Al-Shabaab fighters have retaken Badhadhe town, about 40km from Somalia-Kenya border which had been under KDF control since 2012. Other reports said the Islamic insurgents were seen in the southern town of Badhadhe after the Kenyan troops pulled out of the town.

According to locals, fierce clashes ensued in the outskirt of Badhadhe after the Islamic insurgents ambushed KDF soldiers who were withdrawing from the town heading towards the Kenya-Somalia border.

“The soldiers are not withdrawing from any of our positions,” Obonyo said.

Kenya has more than 4,000 troops in the 22,000-strong AU force in Somalia, helping the UN-backed government battle Al-Shabaab since 2011.

Bangladesh
Boycott Zia family, Hasan Mahmud to BNP leaders
[Dhaka Tribune] Ruling Awami League's Publicity and Publication Affairs Secretary Hasan Mahmud called upon the big shots of the BNP to boycott party chief the loathesome Khaleda Zia
Three-term PM of Bangla, widow of deceased dictator Ziaur Rahman, head of the Bangla Nationalist Party, an apparent magnet for corruption ...
and her son Tarique Rahman
...the elder son of former President of Bangladesh Ziaur Rahman Bir Uttam, and Khaleda Zia, former Prime Minister of Bangladesh. He is the Senior Vice Chairperson of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). His nickname is Pino. There are allegations that Pino took a rakeoff from every foreign investment into the country while Mom was in office...
in the upcoming national council.

The BNP has decided to hold its long overdue national council by March to revamp its rank and file.

Referring to Khaleda Zia's recent remarks over the number of Liberation War deaders, the publicity and publication affairs secretary of the Awami League said: "The BNP leaders, who believe in the spirit of the Liberation War, should boycott the members of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman in the upcoming national council for the unacceptable remarks of Khaleda Zia."

Hasan Mahmud made the call while addressing a discussion meeting arranged by Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote at Shilpakala Academy on Sunday.

he said: "The destructive political practice of BNP chief Khaleda Zia and her son Tarique Rahman, senior vice-chairman of the party, has split the party.

"Not only the big shots but Khaleda's relatives also started boycotting her."

On January 21, AKM Mohiuddin Majumder Shamu, son of Khaleda's cousin Azharul Haq Majumder, along with nearly 100 BNP leaders and activists joined the Awami League.

The former minister urged the BNP chief to practice constructive and peaceful politics, shunning the path of violence.

Dog runs half-marathon and finishes in seventh place
[Dhaka Tribune] Some people train ahead of a race for months, but this fit as a butcher's dog just decided to turn up on the day.

A canine from Alabama has become an internet star after running a 13.1 mile half-marathon and finishing an impressive seventh place with a time of 1:32.56.

Ludivine, a two-and-a-half year-old pet hound dog, snuck out of her owner's garden and joined runners at the start of the Trackless Train Trek Half Marathon.

Her owner April Hamlin admitted she was “embarrassed” that her dog may have got in the way of those participating in the race and told Runner’s World her pet regularly wanders off without her in the town of Elkmont.

“I saw her for the first time in the parking lot before the race,” said one Alabama resident. “She came bouncing up and I petted her on the head. I saw her collar, so I just figured she was somebody’s dog. Elkmont is a small town where everyone knows everybody, so it didn’t strike me as unusual.”

Another explained: “Every time I thought she had dropped off to go back home, I would hear her coming back up to me, and she would race past me up to the two leaders. She would run off to romp through streams and into yards to sniff around for a while.”

Volunteers who helped organised the race sent her owner pictures of the dog at the finish line after an impressive seventh place finish.

Ms Hamlin explained: “It’s the first half marathon in Elkmont, and the people who started it are parents of the kids who run cross country.

“They wanted to try and fundraise because our school system doesn’t have a ton of money for cross country. Because of this dog, they are getting so much publicity, and I think that’s the best part.”

Govt orders 400,000 porn sites blocked
[DAWN] ISLAMABAD: The federal government has asked the internet providing companies to block more than 400,000 pornography websites, officials said on Tuesday, as part of a crackdown on what the apex court calls "offensive content".

The move follows a Supreme Court order this month to ban online material considered blasphemous or objectionable.

Major pornography website are already barred in the country, though hundreds of thousands have fallen through the cracks of internet censors.

"ISPs (Internet Service Providers) have been directed to block more than 400,000 websites having pornographic content," a senior government official told AFP.

Industry officials confirmed the move and said they have already started blocking such sites but it could take some time to complete.

Other websites, including Facebook and YouTube, have previously been banned as part of a government-led censorship campaign, and authorities continue to restrict thousands of online links.

Last week, government lifted the years-long YouTube ban, in place since 2012 after the video sharing site had uploaded blasphemous content.

Robber's Famous Last Words: 'i Thought You Couldn't Own A Gun In New Jersey'
[ALTERNATIVEMEDIASYNDICATE] A Newark, New Jersey deli owner who shot and killed an armed man will not face charges, police and prosecutors say.

Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn Murray as well as Newark Police Director Eugene Venable say that the owner of the deli had a permit for the gun that he used to defend himself.

New Jersey is notorious for having some of the strictest gun regulations in the nation. The robber apparently thought that meant there was no legal way for his would-be victims to arm themselves.

According to Guns.buzz, Mark Robinson's last words inside the New Neighborhood Deli Supermarket were "I thought you couldn't own a gun in New Jersey."

Robinson, 46, had walked into the deli around 8:30 p.m. and immediately pointed a gun at the owner, who didn't hesitate to pull his own weapon and fire. Robinson was pronounced dead at around 10 pm.

One individual was shot to death and one was wounded in a felony arrest traffic stop in Harney County in Oregon Tuesday evening, according to various official and unofficial reports.

The dead has been identified as LaVoy Finicum, 55, of Cane Beds, Arizona, according to a Bundy Ranch Facebook posting, said to have been shot three times. According to data said to have been attributed to Nevada Assemblywoman Michele Fiore, Finicum was shot in cold blood. Other unconfirmed reports say it was an unidentified state police agent who shot Finicum.

Among the arrested identified by the FBI were: Ammon Edward Bundy, age 40, of Emmett, Idaho, Ryan C. Bundy, age 43, of Bunkerville, Nevada, Brian Cavalier, age 44, of Bunkerville, Nevada, Shawna Cox, age 59, Kanab, Utah and Ryan Waylen Payne, age 32, of Anaconda, Montana.

Oregon state police said they arrested another individual identified as Joseph Donald O'Shaughnessy, age 45, Cottonwood, Arizona. A blog report said that an internet radio talk personality identified as Pete Santelli, Cincinnati, Ohio, was detained at one of the checkpoints set up directly after the traffic stop.

Another man in Arizona was arrested in conjunction with the incident on Oregon, who was identified as Jon Eric Ritzheimer, 32, and who will likely be charged with conspiracy as well.

The traffic stop, which an FBI news release said was a probable cause felony arrest stop, took place between Burns and John Day on US Highway 395.

An informal report said that Ryan Bundy had been shot, but was to expected to survive his wounds.

The FBI news release said the detainees will be changed with conspiracy to impede federal officials.

According to reports, those remaining at the Malhuer Wildlife Refuge have been told they may leave without being stopped. One of the leaders of the takeover, Blaine Cooper, is said to be at the wildlife refuge.

Chris Covert writes for Rantburg.com. He can be reached at grurkka@gmail.com and on Twitter.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
ISIS holds thousands on civilians hostage in Hasakah
HASAKAH – The Islamic State (ISIS) radical group has imposed a siege on the city of Shaddadi in Syria’s northeastern province of Hasakah, in a bid to prevent civilians from leaving the city, local sources reported on Tuesday.

Shaddadi is considered the main bastion for ISIS militants in Hasakah province.

“Nobody is allowed to leave the city. Anyone who tries to reach Shaddadi’s suburbs is being beaten and arrested by Daesh,” said Hammoud Hussein, a lawyer based in Shaddadi city.

“Civilians in Shaddadi are held hostage by Daesh terrorists. People are running out of food and other basic supplies,” Hussein told ARA News, using an Arabic acronym for ISIS.

This comes as the western-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) started a battle for Shaddadi, aimed at regaining the city after more than two years of ISIS control over it.

“People are afraid of being used by Daesh are human shields against the SDF bombardment and western airstrikes,” Hussein reported.

Backed by the U.S.-led coalition’s air cover, Kurdish-Arab alliance of the SDF has earlier liberated more than 240 towns and villages in Hasakah province subsequent to battles against ISIS. Recapturing Shaddadi would be deemed as cleansing the entire province from ISIS militants.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the Combined Joint Task Force said three strikes in three cities in Syria hit a tactical unit, a headquarters building and destroyed two cranes.

Separately in Iraq, 15 strikes near six cities hit vehicles, a bulldozer and a fuel tanker; destroyed fighting positions, mortar systems and a weapons cache; and denied access to terrain, the statement said.

ISIS executes 1 for spying in Aleppo
[ARA News] ALEPPO – The Islamic State (ISIS) extremist group executed on Tuesday a Syrian media activist in the northern city of Manbij on charges of ‘spying for crusader coalition’, in reference to the U.S.-led coalition that has been bombing the group’s positions across Syria and Iraq for over two years.

Hussam Salman, 28, was beheaded in front of dozens of people in central Manbij.

“Salman was known for documenting ISIS atrocities against civilians,” local media activist Nasser Teljbini told ARA News in Manbij, Aleppo province.

The victim was arrested last week “for baseless charges”.

“Salman was detained and executed by Daesh militants after being accused of communicating with the western coalition,” the source said.

Teljbini added that the ISIS-led Sharia Court in Manbij accused the 28-year-old media activist of “spying for the crusader coalition”, ordering his execution in public.

ISIS Executes More Media Activists

The radical group has earlier executed dozens of media activists in Syria and Iraq on similar charges.

On January 3, ISIS executed five media activists in Syria’s northeastern province of Raqqa on charges of “spying for hostile parties”. The terror group released a video showing the five activists “confessing” to have filmed ISIS headquarters and vehicles in Raqqa. In the name of their alleged Caliphate, ISIS militants have shot the media activists dead at the end of the video.

The victims were identified as Muhammad Abdulghani, Hael Abdulrazaq, Faisal al-Jaafar, Ammar al-Jaafar and Mahyar Othman. The group accused them of leaking security information to the U.S.-led coalition.

“Everyone trying to deliver information about Raqqa and other ISIS-led areas to the outside world is being accused of spying for hostile parties, Activists are being tortured and brutally executed,” a civil rights activist told ARA News in Raqqa, speaking on condition of anonymity.

On December 29, 2015, the radical group of Islamic State (ISIS) burned to death twenty media activists in Iraq’s northwestern city of Mosul. The victims, who have been arrested in separate raids earlier in December, were executed on charges of leaking security information to “hostile parties”– namely the U.S.-led coalition and its allied ground forces in Iraq.

After interrogations, the ISIS-led Sharia Court in Mosul issued a decision to burn the activists to death in a public square in al-Houd district in Mosul.

“The horrific execution was conducted in front of dozens of people in al-Houd, including some family members of the victims,” a local source told ARA News under the condition of anonymity for security concerns.

Lebanese say captured Israeli 'spy' vulture
[Iran Press TV] People in southern Leb say they have captured a tagged vulture equipped with an Israeli location transmitter for espionage activities.
A GPS to see where the bird goes contributes to intel collection how?
Residents in the town of Bint Jbeil captured the scavenging bird when it crossed a few kilometers into the Lebanese border on Tuesday.
"It's a Zionist spy vulture! Don't die? Don't die!"
Last summer, the Paleostinian resistance movement, Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason,, announced that it had detected and captured a dolphin equipped with a video camera for an Israeli espionage operation off the shore of the Gazoo Strip.
Right. A dolphin with a camera is almost as useful as a vulture with a GPS. What was the mammal taking pictures of? Hamas operations in the briny deep?
The Times of Israel gently adds the Israeli perspective:
But according to Israeli reports, the vulture had in fact been tagged by the Nature and Parks Authority in the Gamla reserve on the nearby Golan Heights -- part of an effort to increase the population of the endangered bird.

Images posted to social media show the vulture being held up to the camera, its tags, which include the word "Israel," fully visible.
A photo of the thing can be seen at the link.
"We hope that in the 21st century, people will understand that wild animals are harmless," the Nature and Parks Authority says in a statement quoted by Army Radio. "We hope that the Lebanese will take care of it and release it."

Recent Lebanese reports say the vulture has indeed been released by its captors.

The vulture is the latest in a series of Israeli animal "agents" captured in Arab countries, which, while mostly avian in nature, have also included a shark that attacked tourists in Egypt's Sinai peninsula.

Police seize suspect in failed Sudanese embassy bombing
A man in police custody is suspected of trying to plant a bomb outside the Sudanese Embassy in the Gargaresh district of Tripoli.

The suspect, who has not been named, was picked up by the Abu Sleem police after a bomb alleged to contain 200 grammes of TNT was discovered at the embassy. Apparently connected to a mobile phone, the device failed to detonate. It is unclear where the bomb was discovered or how the suspect was arrested.

That quantity of explosive could have produced a considerable blast, a member of the local Criminal Investigation Division explained.

The police are saying that the man, a Libyan from the Gargaresh area, was claiming that he had been paid by an unnamed source to plant the bomb. His case has been referred to the Attorney General’s office.

Foreign Office summons Afghan diplomat over BKU attack
[DAWN] The Foreign Office on Monday summoned the Afghan Charge d'Affaires, Syed Abdul Nasir Yousafi, to convey Pakistain's concern regarding the use of Afghan soil by terrorist elements in the Bacha Khan University attack, said a statement issued from the FO.

It said the diplomat was summoned on Monday and was told that investigations revealed the perpetrators of the deadly attack on the varsity were operating from Afghan territory and used the Afghan telecommunication network.

The statement further said relevant evidence had also been shared with the Afghan diplomat. It was conveyed to the Afghan government that they must take action against the perpetrators of the terrorist attack and extend cooperation to Pak authorities in order to bring them to justice, it added.

At least 21 people were killed when unidentified gunnies entered the university in Charsadda town last week and opened fire on students and faculty members.

The criminal mastermind of the APS Beautiful Downtown Peshawar

attack, Umar Mansoor, of the banned Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistain (TTP) Geedar group claimed the attack through a post on his Facebook page, adding that four attackers were sent to the university.

Authorities say the Bacha Khan University attack was planned and orchestrated by Pak Talibs based in neighbouring Afghanistan, and called on the Afghan government to co-operate in its investigation.

Pakistain Army has been leading a ground and air operation against turbans in the country's tribal areas since June 2014. The military claims as a result of its operation, which it says has seen phenomenal success, several faceless myrmidons have crossed the border into Afghanistan, from where they are now operating.

Algeria’s intelligence agency dissolved by Bouteflika
A presidential decree, that is yet to be published in the official gazette, has dissolved Algeria’s influential Department of Intelligence and Security (DRS) and created a new intelligence agency known as the Direction of Security Services (DSS.)
To employ all the ex-employees of the DRS...
The new agency is to be led by a retired DRS chief, General Athmane Tartag,
...it's already started, see?
making many to believe that the government is trying to take control of an agency that analysts say controls Algerian politics.
No more so than any other Middle Eastern country...
The reports which surfaced on government newspaper El-Messa is yet to be confirmed officially and state-owned Algeria Press Service has been silent on the matter.

There have been several changes in the leadership of the DRS since the reelection of President Bouteflika in 2014 amongst which is the removal of Mohammed Mediene as the head of the department last year. He had led the DRS for more than 20 years and was dubbed the “King of Algeria” because of his behind-the-scenes role and influence in the country’s politics dominated by the ruling National Liberation Front (FLN.)

In November, former counterterrorism chief Abdelkader Ait-Ouarabi, better known as General Hassan, was also sentenced to five years in jail on charges of destroying documents and disobeying military orders.

The dissolution of the DRS was welcomed by a senior member of the FLN who said that “the era of the kingmakers is officially over now” while security analyst Arslan Chikhaoui commented that “the move will enable Algeria’s intelligence to move from a ‘secret police’ to a more proper intelligence agency to adapt to ongoing regional and domestic political transition.”

The move also raises questions about Bouteflika’s imminent departure from power as he rarely appears in public since he suffered a stroke in 2013.
Sometime next year we'll be welcoming President Tartag on a state visit...

FBI arrests Milwaukee man accused of planning mass shooting at Masonic temple
[FOX6NOW] FBI officials announced on Tuesday, January 26th that Milwaukee resident Samy Mohammed Hamzeh, 23, has been charged with possessing machine guns and a silencer.

According to the criminal complaint, Hamzeh had been under investigation since September 2015. The investigation revealed that, in October 2015, Hamzeh planned to travel to Jordan, enter the West Bank, and conduct an attack on Israeli soldiers and citizens living in the West Bank. Hamzeh later abandoned those plans and began to focus on conducting an attack in the United States.

According to the criminal complaint, Hamzeh has engaged in extensive conversations with two confidential sources (referred to here as CS-1 and CS-2). Those conversations, which were in Arabic, were monitored, recorded, and translated by the FBI beginning in October 2015.

During those recorded conversations, Hamzeh explained that he wanted to commit a domestic act of violence and, earlier this month, he settled on a Masonic temple in Milwaukee as his target.

On January 19, 2016, Hamzeh, CS-1 and CS-2 took a guided tour of the Masonic temple, during which they learned meeting schedules and where people would be located during meetings. In a recorded conversation after they left the temple, Hamzeh, discussed his plans with CS-1 and CS-2. In that conversation, Hamzeh reaffirmed his intention to commit an armed attack on the temple and discussed in further detail how they would carry out the attack.

Hamzeh said that they would need two machine guns so that they each would have one (Hamzeh indicated that one CS already had a machine gun), and also said that they would need three silencers:

"We want two machine guns, you now have one, so we want two more, and we need three silencers, that's it. Find out how much all together these will cost, and then we will march."
"We want two, like the machine gun you have. . . . And we need silencers. . . . Three, yes three silencers, and that's it."
". . . each one has a weapon, each one has a silencer gun, the operation will be one hundred percent successful.
That's 100% probability at the 5% confidence interval, actually. In other words, not a hope in hell of it going off as planned. It's very important to understand how likely one's likelihood is.
I am telling you, to go without silencer gun, you will be exposed from the beginning."

Iraq
Mass Grave Found In Ramadi
[NRTTV] Iraq says 40 bodies have been found in a mass grave in the city of Ramadi, where the government recently regained control from Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. (IS) krazed killers.

A military front man, Brigadier General Sa'ad Ma'an, said the grave contained the bodies of police and civilians, including women and kiddies blaming IS for the killings.

"We are now in the area of al-Jamiyah in Ramadi where we found a mass grave containing the remains of more than 40 people including coppers, women and kiddies of various ages. This is more evidence of Daesh [Islamic State] (Islamic State) crimes. The group uses various heinous and savage acts to liquidate and kill our people," he said.

Local security forces and a small forensics team worked on Tuesday (Jan. 26) to exhume the bodies of those left in the grave.

Ramadi fell to IS hard boyz in May in a major setback to the U.S. coalition and Iraqi forces.

Iraqi troops retook the city last month with substantial air support from the coalition.

The hard boyz still have nearby tactical units, which were targeted in coalition Arclight airstrikes on Sunday (Jan. 24), according to a statement from the U.S. and its allies.

Denmark Passes Tough New Immigration Law
[NEWS.SKY] Denmark's parliament has voted in favour of seizing the assets of asylum seekers to help pay for their stay while their claims are processed.

The controversial law is part of a package of immigration reforms designed to make the country less appealing for migrants.

The new measures, which also delay family reunions by increasing the waiting period from one to up to three years, had cross-party support and passed with an overwhelming majority.

Out of the 109 parliamentarians who voted, 81 backed the bill which was presented by the minority Liberal Party government of Prime Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen.

He was helped by the support of the opposition Social Democrats and the anti-immigration Danish People's Party - Denmark's two largest parties. One politician abstained and 70 others were absent.

Turkey To Boycott Syrian Peace Talks If Kurdish PYD Invited
[NRTTV] The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
remains strongly opposed to the participation of the Democratic Union Party (PYD), the main Syrian Kurdish group, as well as the Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG), a militia affiliated to the PYD, from negotiating on the opposition side at peace talks planned for this week, Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said on Tuesday (Jan. 26). Turkey will boycott Syrian peace talks planned for this week if the Kurdish opposition PYD is invited to the negotiating table, the country's Foreign Minister.

"Representation of (Syrian) Kurds in talks is a necessity. Negotiations without Kurds at table can't be inclusive. We are not against the presence of Kurds at talks. But are vehemently against the participation of the PYD and YPG (Kurdish People's Protection Units) who oppress the Kurds," Davutoglu said in Parliament.

If the U.S.-allied PYD, which is battling Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(IS), is to join the talks aimed at resolving the five-year Syrian civil war, then it should be by the side of Syrian Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Lord of the Baath...
, he told members of his AK Party.

"It is unacceptable to let a terrorist organization joining opposition parties and attend negotiation talks. They cannot sit together with honorable opposition groups fighting against the regime. If somebody wants to see the PYD at the table, its place should be on the same side as the Syrian regime. The PYD, which cooperates with the regime, can't represent the rightful struggle of Syrian people," Davutoglu said.

Turkey is also against the participation of the YPG militia which is affiliated to the PYD. The YPG has become an important partner in the U.S.-led fight against Islamic State. Turkey views the YPG as an extension of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), which it considers a terrorist organization.

Moscow denies asking Assad to step down
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Syrian Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Scourge of Qusayr...
was not asked to step down by Russia, nor did Moscow offer him political asylum, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Tuesday.
When it comes down to "step down or polonium," step down.
"In both cases, the answer is: 'No'," Lavrov told his annual news conference. "This is untrue... No one asked about political asylum, and no one offered anything of the kind."

His remarks came after reports that a late Russian general was sent to by President Vladimir Putin
...Second and fourth President and sixth of the Russian Federation and the first to remain sober. Putin is credited with bringing political stability and re-establishing something like the rule of law, which occasionally results in somebody dropping dead from polonium poisoning. Under Putin, a new group of business magnates controlling significant swathes of Russia's economy has emerged, all of whom have close personal ties to Putin. The old bunch, without close personal ties to Putin, are in jail or in exile or dead...
to ask Assad to step down -- news that Putin has already denied.

Lavrov also said ISIS Death Eaters were building up influence in Afghanistan. He also insisted that U.N.-backed Syria talks planned to start later this week will not be successful if Kurdish representatives are not invited.

"Without this participant the talks cannot achieve the results that we want, a definitive political resolution in Syria," Lavrov said, adding, however, that it was up to U.N. envoy Staffan de Mistura to decide which opposition groups to invite to the talks.

He said that some participants of the Syria grinding of the peace processor had been "capricious" by refusing to negotiate.

"When there are attempts to put conditions for collective fight against terrorism, conditions that are irrelevant, such as 'if you agree to a regime change, for example, in Syria, then we will for real begin to fight terrorism collectively' ... that is, I believe, the biggest mistake," Lavrov said.

#11  Ridiculous. For the past couple of months I have vacillated on Trump - initially and occasionally impressed by his focus on mitigating illegal immigration...then he loses focus and acts like a spoiled child. From my perspective...and recent experience...we NEED a war time president this term! I don't care about Trump's money or his hurt feelings...that is kid's stuff.

We need President, a LEADER, that will properly assess the ISIS threat, inoculate us agianst the spread by stopping the military aged male refugees from entering our country from that AO, prepare us to confront the threat mentally and militarily, direct preparation of a plan to destroy ISIS and execute that plan in detail. All else is foolishness.

#19  *Disclaimer - I have no interest in this debate or whatnots, just observations. I'm penciled in for some Wargame with South Park Movie after kiddie homework and bedtime. Runner up some Albion's Seed time.

There is a tweet from Kelley at IOTW which, if accurate, to paraphrase has Kelley promising the polls will look totally different on Friday.

If you were leading the polls, and knew the uhem moderator is out to get you, then why go?

As for will he hide from foreign leaders if that time comes? it is not the President's job to travel to Tehran, sit in a chair in from of the IC, and get heckled for an hour with no chance to respond.

Trump is taking an unorthodox risk. Fox is reminding me why I quit watching about a year ago. If Trump live-comments the debate, Fox will get their ratings and Trump could exploit the unorthodoxy with zingers and a formal response before the participants get done shaking each others' hands.

The Trump/Cruz debate, that needs to happen. Either camp, if I felt good about Iowa, I would wait until after that election. Both camps, if feeling good about coming in 1st or 2nd in the recent upcoming elections, I would wait until other runners got knocked out.

#20  I think Trump will show up for the debate. He's stolen the air out of two days worth of news cycles and every word from the moderators will be judged on how unfair FOX is towards Trump. Of course he looks like he bluffs a lot of if he does, but I think the positives outweigh the negatives.

Worst thing that could happen to Trump is that he doesn't show up and he's not mentioned during the debate. In that case I'm sure Trump has something planned to steal headlines on Friday and make it about him, again.

#21  What, apparently, pushed "The Donald" over the line was the below tweet from Fox. Until this came out, he was only considering a no-show:

"For its part, the conservative media giant quickly responded with Trump levels of snark.

“We learned from a secret back channel that the Ayatollah and Putin both intend to treat Donald Trump unfairly when they meet with him if he becomes president — a nefarious source tells us that Trump has his own secret plan to replace the Cabinet with his Twitter followers to see if he should even go to those meetings
,” a statement distributed to reporters by Fox News read."

Mr. Trump does not like to be dissed and took a stand.

#22  If he wants to start looking presidential he might want to avoid the type of junior high school girl questions she would certainly ask.

Then he should start practicing with Ms. Kelley, who would be a relative softie compared to the hard-ballers the MSM will send to the White House press conferences. Funny how he's dropping out of the debate run by the more (relatively) "conservative" news network, and not the liberal ones that allow the democrat candidates to control the format of any interviews. As it is, Trump is validating the "War on Women!" meme that Hillarity is trying to foist off on the electorate. Count on her using this incident against Trump if he's the nominee.

I doubt if that one-on-one debate will happen, given that I hear that the RNC rules are that anyone who does side-debates won't be allowed to participate in further debates.

I figure Fox news has already factored in the impact of not having Trump in the line-up, and decided that their integrity was worth more than the ratings of a single debate. Bravo. When they say "Fair and Balanced", this little incident will allow them to also say, "AND we mean it!" (Count on Fox employees using this to spit in the eye of their competitors.)

I was reminded of the (Vulcan) saying: "Only Nixon can go to China". Trump's boast about being able to shoot someone and not have his popularity affected means he feels free to make a deal that would backstab those same supporters ("Only Trump can pull off Amnesty"). Art of the DEAL and all that.

I myself wasn't sure about Cruz until I read the twitter from Robert Reich quoted by Spengler in an update to his article on PJMedia. I immediately was reminded of how the Allies kept the German Command nervous and jumpy before D-Day by moving Patton around and not saying ANYTHING after his faux pas speech. I Totally agree with #11 (Tennessee): we need a war president, and we just got a panicked "cable" from the dark side stating how horrified they were that Ted was (shudder) a true believer, who went across the Capitol to the Tea Party Congressmen and (double shudder) got their cooperation.

Terror makes people do crazy sh*t, and if you're a democrat, you're already half-way to crazy. Ted strikes me as someone who isn't going to be cavalier and let the opportunity pass to stick the shiv into the Democrats and twist when they start making own-goals in their terror.

The whole process of "Republicans/Conservatives" going with the outsiders is precisely because the GOPe are not true believers.

Then She had on her show, and was fawning over, the far left anti-America anti-troop Michael Moore. Why? To criticize Trump. On top of Kelly, the Republican Nation Committee AND Fox also invited Nabela Noor an American Muslim Jihad terrorist supporting youtube star to the debate, specifically to mock question Trump. Interestingly, Bill Sammon — FOX News’s vice president of News and Washington managing editor — is the father of Brooke Sammon, who is Rubio’s press secretary. What else you might ask? Rockets smashed into two Tawerghan refugee camps in Benghazi
Human Rights Watch has reported that at the start of the month, four rockets were fired into two Tawerghan refugee camps in Benghazi, killing three inhabitants and injuring seven others including two children.

HRW said that three rockets hit the Red Crescent camp to deadly effect while the fourth rocket struck the nearby Istijaba camp causing some damage but no casualties.

Witnesses told HRW investigators that there had been no military forces anywhere near either camp.

“Firing rockets into displaced persons’ camps with no military present shows utter disregard for civilian lives,” said Joe Stork, HRW’s deputy Middle East director. “Armed forces and militias need to do their utmost to protect civilians and ensure they are out of harm’s way.”

A witness said that it was thought that the rockets came from the Gwarsha area of the city, a district which is currently controlled by IS. HRW said it had been told that the attack on the Red Crescent Camp lasted for half an hour and most of the injuries were from shrapnel that scythed through fragile makeshift shelters, most made from fibreglass piping.

Six police officers killed in Kenya
[AA.TR] Six coppers in Kenya were killed Tuesday after their vehicle drove over an improvised bomb (IED) in Lamu County, a coastal area of Kenya.

"It is true that we have lost some officers in Lamu after driving over an IED. There were about 15 officers in total patrolling the Boni forest area, which is a known as an al-Shabaab

He added that the truck had just left the town of Hingi and was headed to Kiunga in Lamu.

"The fallen officers belonged to the Rapid Deployment Unit of the Administration police," he said.

On Dec. 27, two coppers were killed after driving over an IED in Lamu County. The next day, five coppers perished in a similar way in the same county.

Cameroon Troops Kill 40 in Pursuit of Boko Haram
[ABCNEWS.GO] Nigerian villagers claimed Tuesday that Cameroon
...a long, narrow country that fills the space between Nigeria and Chad on the northeast, CAR to the southeast. Prior to incursions by Boko Haram nothing ever happened there...
ian troops in cross-border pursuit of Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
Islamic faceless myrmidons shot and killed at least 40 civilians -- the third such accusation of reckless killings by the Cameroonians in recent weeks.

Muhammad Abba, deputy commander of a civilian self-defense group, said relatives still trapped in the border region called him to say they counted at least 40 corpses scattered around the Gwadale border community in northeast Nigeria
... a particularly crimson stretch of Islam's bloody border...
after Cameroonian troops crossed the border Monday.

The first story about such slayings came from refugees who said Cameroonian soldiers Nov. 30 killed about 150 people, stole cattle and razed entire villages along a 150-kilometer (95-mile) stretch of the border. It came days after diplomats said Nigerian officials refused requests from neighboring states to evacuate civilians and create a no-go zone along the border to prevent incursions by the bully boys.

Cameroon has said its troops are deployed in joint operations with Nigerian soldiers and follow strict humanitarian rules of war. Nigerian government officials have not commented on the reports.

Abba told The News Agency that Dare Not be Named that one of his brothers who survived said the Cameroonians arrived in the early hours of Monday "and began to shoot sporadically. Most of our people who ran out of their houses in fear were killed by bullets ... corpses still litter the ground with no one attending to them."

He said he was worried because he hasn't heard from his eldest son since the attack.

Abba said survivors fled to Ashigashiya, where villagers last week accused Cameroonian troops of indiscriminately firing rocket-propelled grenades that killed a family of four, and then shooting and killing two elderly men.

Aliyu said the gunnies sneaked into the area and were about settling down when the army ambushed them following a tip-off from patriotic citizens. He commended the host communities for their cooperation which included providing security operatives with useful information. According to him, more troops have been deployed to the area to enhance manpower to consolidate the gains recorded in the fight against insurgency.

"The Damaturu-BuniYadi-Biu road will soon be opened to motorists for economic activities to resume in the liberated areas.'' The GOC said as part of efforts to boost the morale of the troops, more than 10, 000 soldiers had been given special promotion, while 1,500 others were currently under consideration for promotion to their next rank. According to the GOC, the army will continue to operate within the rules of engagement and with respect for human rights
...which are usually open to widely divergent definitions...
Aliyu said the closure of markets in some communities were based on security reasons and pleaded with people of the area to be patient, adding that the markets would soon be re-opened for business.

"We are aware of the inconveniences the market closure might have caused the communities, but we are working hard to reopen them for economic activities to resume,'' he assured.

The GOC called for improved cooperation between soldiers and the communities in order to collectively defeat insurgency in the country.

Self-proclaimed ISIS 'emir' on trial in UAE
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] An Emirati man accused of seeking to carry out attacks on targets including Abu Dhabi's Formula 1 circuit claimed to be the local leader of the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) group, newspapers reported on Tuesday, citing a Federal Supreme court hearing.

A prosecution witness told the court that an Emirati and his wife had taken an oath of allegiance to ISIS through social media, Gulf News reported.

He was married to Alaa Bader al-Hashemi, an Emirati woman executed in July for the krazed killer-inspired murder of U.S. school teacher Ibolya Ryan, 47, in the washroom of an Abu Dhabi shopping mall in December 2014.

The witness said the defendant's computers showed he used speeches of ISIS leader Abu Baqr Al-Baghdadi and late head of Al-Qaeda Abu Musab Al-Zarqawi to spread the radical krazed killer ideology among youth and recruit them.

"The man set up a website named 'the media battalion' to promote the terrorist ideology of these terrorist organizations and recruit young people for them," the witness added.

Another witness said the defendant's computers had software to log on to sites teaching people how to make explosives with plans to target a shopping mall, a military site and to assassinate a leader.

Meanwhile,
...back at the precinct house, Don Calamari's lawyer was getting even redder in the face...
The National daily cited a witness as telling a court during the trial that the defendant and his wife had performed a "symbolic ceremony to pledge allegiance" to Al-Baghdadi.

International media are not allowed access to the trial of the man, 34, at the Federal Supreme court in the UAE capital, which has upped security measures since the wave of Arab Spring protests that swept the region in 2011.

He is charged with joining ISIS and plotting attacks on Abu Dhabi's Formula 1 circuit. He is reportedly also accused of plotting to attack the Abu Dhabi branch of furniture chain Ikea, as well as preparing to assassinate an unspecified Emirati leader.

Afghanistan
MoD Dismiss Pakistan Claims That Afghan Elements Support Insurgents
[Tolo News] Pak Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif
... served two non-consecutive terms as prime minister, heads the Pakistain Moslem League (Nawaz). Noted for his spectacular corruption, the 1998 Pak nuclear test, border war with India, and for being tossed by General Musharraf...
's claim last week that certain circles in Afghanistan are helping holy warriors infiltrate Pak territory to conduct attacks was on Monday rejected by the Afghan Ministry of Defense.
There's no real difference between the Pak and Afghan Taliban. They both pledge allegiance to Mullah Omar (or now to his successor, I guess.) Pakistain doesn't care when the little beturbanned darlings stage attacks in Afghanistan; their only bitch comes when the Frankenturbans kill a few dozen Paks, and even then they don't get too hot if the deaders are Shias or Hindoos or Christians. The concept that attacks in Pakistain are planned and staffed in Afghanistan is apparently too deep for them to grasp, even though they get the concept of planning and staffing attacks in India from Pak soil, even though they increasingly less plausibly deny it.
Afghanistan's Ministry of Defense (MoD) on Monday rejected the allegations by Pakistain that certain elements in Kabul
...the capital of Afghanistan. Home to continuous fighting from 1992 to 1996 between the forces of would-be strongman and Pak ISI/Jamaat-e-Islami sock puppet Gulbuddin Hekmayar and the Northern Alliance, a period which won Hek the title Most Evil Man in the World and didn't do much for the reputations of the Northern Alliance guys either....
support holy warriors to operate in Pak soil, terming the claims groundless.

"This is quite laughable," Dawlat Waziri, a defense ministry front man said on Monday referring to Pak PM's allegations.

"Taliban and al-Qaeda operate in Pakistain. Osama and Mullah Omar
... a minor Pashtun commander in the war against the Soviets who made good as leader of the Taliban. As ruler of Afghanistan, he took the title Leader of the Faithful. The imposition of Pashtunkhwa on the nation institutionalized ignorance and brutality in a country already notable for its own fair share of ignorance and brutality...
were found in Pakistain. The Quetta Council, Beautiful Downtown Peshawar
...capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (formerly known as the North-West Frontier Province), administrative and economic hub for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan. Peshawar is situated near the eastern end of the Khyber Pass, convenient to the Pak-Afghan border. Peshawar has evolved into one of Pakistan's most ethnically and linguistically diverse cities, which means lots of gunfire.
Council, Haqqani Council and Meeran Shah Council exist there in Pakistain. How can Pakistain dare to say that certain groups in Afghanistan are involved in instability in Pakistain?"

This comes at a time that Pakistain has long been criticized by the Afghan government and other countries for its deliberate support of turban groups - with long standing claims that they allow them to operate against Afghanistan from Pak territory.

"Pakistain gets rewards of the seeds it grew to destabilize Afghanistan, there is no bully boy hideouts in Afghanistan," military analyst Hai Gul Sulaimankhail said.

"Nawaz Sharif and ex-Pak officials play a key role in trying to disintegrate the Afghan national army and pose serious threats to Afghanistan's national illusory sovereignty and continuation of war in Afghanistan. Pakistain by making such allegations want to confuse the world's perception," MP Mohammad Abdoh said.

10 policemen martyred in Urozgan 'Insider attack'
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] 10 coppers have embraced martyrdom in an 'insider attack' at a security post in central Urozgan province.

Officials suspect that Taliban had established links with a policeman at the same security post in Chinartu District for coordinating the attack on Monday night.

The policeman reportedly had mixed chemicals in the dinner to make his colleagues unconscious.

Local officials say the policeman alone or together with Taliban have sprayed bullets on the unconscious coppers.

Ammunition and weapons are also missing from the check post and a police vehicle burned following the attack.

Taliban have grabbed credit for the attack.

It comes about a week after a policeman martyred nine colleagues in a similar attack in another part of Urozgan province.

Four coppers were martyred in an 'insider attack' in Urozgan's neighboring Kandahar province about 10 days before.

This part of the country has been the scene of most of the insider attacks.

In the middle of 2014, coppers from inside a security post in Gezab District of Urozgan province had established links with Taliban which led to attack on the same post leaving 10 coppers martyred.

Government
Americans hate the U.S. government more than ever
[CBSNEWS] A handful of industries are those "love to hate" types of businesses, such as cable-television companies and Internet service providers.

The federal government has joined the ranks of the bottom-of-the-barrel industries, according to a new survey from the American Customer Satisfaction Index. Americans' satisfaction level in dealing with federal agencies --everything from Treasury to Homeland Security -- has fallen for a third consecutive year, reaching an eight-year low.
But we only went back eight years.
The declines represent some backsliding for the U.S. government, given that satisfaction saw some improvement in 2011 and 2012, which may have been the result of spending in the wake of the recession. While the comparison with private enterprise isn't apples to apples given the nature of government services, the findings have some implications for babus bureaucrats.

"Satisfaction is linked to broader goals in the political system that it wants to maximize, like confidence and trust," said Forrest Morgeson, director of research at the ACSI. "It's much more difficult to govern if the entire population dislikes you."
'Confidence and trust' as factors. Imagine that.
Although satisfaction is down for the federal government as a whole, the research found that consumers have vastly different views of specific agencies. The department that received the highest score was the Department of the Interior, which received a ranking of 75 points. That could reflect Americans' positive feelings toward national parks, which many visit while on vacation, Morgeson noted.

The lowest-ranked department may not be much of a surprise to taxpayers: Treasury, which received a score of just 55 points, or 20 points below the Department of the Interior. Treasury, as a reminder, oversees the IRS
...the Internal Revenue Service; that office of the United States government that collects taxes and persecutes the regime's political enemies...
"If you think about the most contacted government agency, it'll be the IRS," Morgeson said. "If you think about what the IRS does, which is take money from citizens, you'll have low satisfaction."

Despite the overall lower score for the government, there were some signs of improvement in citizens' experiences, with the feds earning improved scores in customer service and information, which means many citizens believe agencies are delivering information in a clearer way than a year ago.

The government report is based on surveys with more than 2,000 people who were surveyed late last year.

India-Pakistan
Powerful Pakistan army chief says he will retire on time
Pakistan's hugely popular military chief General Raheel Sharif confirmed on Monday he will retire at the end of his tenure this year, ending media speculation surrounding his role and opening up arguably the most powerful position in the country.

Sharif, widely credited with bringing a semblance of security back to the insurgency-plagued country, said in a meeting with his top officials on Monday that he planned to seek no extension.
Of course not -- it would interfere with his plan to be the next President...
"The Mighty Pakistan Army is a great institution," army spokesman Lieutenant General Asim Bajwa quoted Sharif as saying on Twitter. "I don't believe in extension and will retire on the due date."

"Efforts to (root) out terrorism will continue with full vigor and resolve. Pakistan's national interest is supreme and will be safe guarded at all costs."

Sharif was named army chief in 2013, when his predecessor General Ashfaq Kayani's term - which had been extended by three years - came to an end. Sharif is due to step down this year. Former military leaders Pervez Musharraf and Zia ul-Haq also extended their own rule during their time in power.

The announcement, which came less than a week after Taleban-linked militants killed 21 people in an attack on a university in the troubled northwest, was quickly praised on social media.

"Well-done Uncle Rahil Sharif, every #COAS should act like you, no greed but resolve to serve the nation," wrote Ab Rasheed Qureshi, using the acronym for his official title.

Under Sharif the Pakistani military launched an offensive in the tribal areas in June 2014, where militants had previously operated with impunity. The army claims to have killed thousands of insurgents and swept many others over the porous border into Afghanistan, contributing to a boost in security in 2015.
You can see the results, Pakistan is an oasis of stability in a troubled world...
However critics are concerned that rights are being rolled back in the name of defeating terror, citing the creation of military courts and the resumption of hangings after a six-year moratorium, among other moves.

Pakistan has been ruled by the military for more than half its 69-year history and the armed forces are widely seen as controlling defence and foreign policy.
Dawn has its version of the announcement here.

Africa Subsaharan
Whither Boko Haram?
[THENATIONONLINENG.NET] So, is Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
alive and well? Not quite.

For one, the frontal attacks on big towns and cities, with the anarchists thumping their noses against Nigeria's much-vaunted federal might has fizzled out. So has the lunatic boasts of Abubakar Shekau or his corresponding ghosts, as he bobbed up from yes-he's-dead-no-he's-not-dead sickening tales from the Goodluck Jonathan
... 14th President of Nigeria. He was Governor of Bayelsa State from 9 December 2005 to 28 May 2007, and was sworn in as Vice President on 29 May 2007. Jonathan is a member of the ruling People's Democratic Party (PDP). He is a lover of nifty hats, which makes him easily recognizable unless someone else in the room is wearing a neat chapeau.Other than that he's pretty useless as the Boko Haram debacle shows..
presidency, and its army high command.

But the threat seems to have retreated to the pristine hit-and-run guerrilla tactics, of Boko Haram's battle-entry strategy, before it was allowed to festered by an apologetic and hesitating presidency. That a DPO reportedly lost his life in the Adawama attack echos those dire beginnings, when Boko Haram on Okada would attack police posts, kill luckless coppers in there and set free detainees in the facilities' cells.

Yet, between January 2015 and January 2016, Boko Haram has been so heavily degraded that talks about mass resettlement of the thousands of internally displaced persons (IDPs) don't sound so fantastic and far-fetched again.

If Hardball were even to be more date-dramatic, he would insist that in seven months, a sure-footed and determined government has all but checkmated a seven-year insurgency, that looked like raging undeterred for no less than another seven years, at the very least!

But if the media remains sceptical at President Buhari's claim that the war against Boko Haram had been substantially won, it is because humans are basically pain-avoiding; a traumatised people, even more so. That would explain the seeming waywardness and obduracy of the Biblical Israelites who, after being saved from Egyptian tyranny, en route to the promised land, would forget the last celestial munificence, no matter how grand, and scream at Jehovah to return them to Egypt, rather kill them all in the desert between Egypt and Canaan.

Of course, the 15 killed in the latest Adamawa attack are humans with flesh and blood, families and loved ones. They are not just mere stats to be compared and discounted. That means the war won't be fully won, until every inch of Nigerian territory is safe from Boko Haram's plague.

Still, Nigerians cannot afford to be as obdurate and stiff-necked as the Israelites of old. We should applaud the government to more success, when it is doing well, just as we reserve the right to excoriate it, when it falters.

On Boko Haram, the Buhari Presidency has done well. But it should not rest until those blood-sucking criminals are totally sacked from our land.

"Dammit -- maize and groundnuts, again! And orange juice. The boys want steak -- or at least chicken -- like we used to get every day. They're saying Allah doesn't love us anymore."
This marks a change of strategy after the terrorist group started targeting mosques in Cameroon.
Q: What's the difference between jihadis and criminal?
A: Jihadis quote the Koran while they do bad things.
Naffissa Adja, a sales agent at Arab supplies, one of the most popular shops in N'djamena, says she still waits to be paid last month's salary, as the shop has not received supplies from Nigeria's Borno state for several months.

She has not been paid because business is slow due to regular attacks on the shop's supply trucks.

Truck driver Tocba Haman, 45, says he no longer travels to Nigeria for supplies because the Boko Haram terrorist group targets trucks and kills drivers.
Meanwhile, back at the hijacking:
"Dammit, you idiot! Next time shoot them after they get out of the trucks -- the blood is soaking through my pants again!"
As the bully boyz continue to control Nigerian villages, seizing goods and killing traders -- especially around Borno state -- business activity will continue to decline in Chad, Haman says, even with the heavy presence of the military along roads and markets.

Bomb planted near school defused in Peshawar
PESHAWAR: An improvised explosive device (IED), allegedly meant to target a school, was defused by Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) personnel in Bashirabad area of Peshawar on Tuesday, DawnNews reported.

Officials say unidentified suspects handed over the improvised bomb, fitted in a pressure cooker, to a child, asking him to take it to his school. But the little boy instead of taking it to school brought the IED home.

A Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) slogan was written on the pressure cooker, officials said. On seeing the explosive, family members of the child alerted police and BDS personnel were called in.

According to BDS officials, around five kilogrammes of explosive material was used in the device.

On Thursday, a similar terrorism bid was foiled when the city police defused a bomb planted near a bus terminal on GT Road in Peshawar and arrested a suspect.

Earlier this month, rumours of a possible terrorist attacks on schools circulated in the provincial capital’s rural and urban areas and forced most headmasters to close educational institutions much early.

Panicked parents had rushed to the schools to pick their children, recalling the December 2014 Army Public School militant attack, which killed 144 students and staff members.

Kurds stop ISIS attack on Shingal
ERBIL – Iraqi Kurdistan’s Peshmerga forces repelled an attempt by militant fighters of the Islamic State (ISIS) to infiltrate into the recently liberated Yezidi region of Shingal (Sinjar) in northwestern Iraq, military sources said on Tuesday.

A group of ISIS militants launched a mortar attack on the Kurdish headquarters in southern Shingal, coupled with three suicide bombings near a Peshmerga checkpoint in the same area.

At least four members of the Peshmerga were reportedly injured in the attack.

Speaking to ARA News, Peshmerga officer Ahmed Hisen said that the Kurdish forces clashed with ISIS militants subsequent to the attack, forcing the group to withdraw towards its strongholds in Mosul.

“The attack started when the group launched several mortar shells on our headquarters, while three Daesh terrorists carried out suicide bombings in the area on Tuesday evening. Then several others tried to infiltrate into Shingal, but our forces responded with artillery shelling and heavy machine guns,” the Peshmerga official said, using another acronym for ISIS.

“More than ten Daesh terrorists were killed in the clashes,” the source confirmed.

“We were eventually able to foil the terror operation, forcing the militants to retreat from the area,” Hisen said.

After more than a year of ISIS occupation, the Yezidi region of Shingal was liberated in November at the hands of the Peshmerga, supported by the U.S.-led coalition’s air cover.

After ISIS departure, the Kurdish forces have discovered several mass graves in Shingal. Most of the victims were women and children from the Yezidi minority. Specialized teams, that have been inspecting traces of the people disappeared during the group’s rule over the Yezidi-populated region, have so far discovered five mass graves belonging to Yezidi civilians, according to human rights activists and Peshmerga officials who spoke to ARA News.

Shingal enjoys a strategic location as it connects the cities of Raqqa in northeastern Syria with Mosul in northwestern Iraq –both held by ISIS.

By recapturing Shingal, the Kurds have cut off one of the main ISIS supply lines in the region.

In August 2014, ISIS extremists had taken control of Shingal, causing a mass displacement of nearly 400,000 Yezidi civilians towards Duhok and Erbil, in Iraqi Kurdistan. Tens of thousands of Yezidis remained trapped in Mount Sinjar, suffering mass killings, kidnappings and rape at the hands of ISIS extremists.

Cleric’s house besieged to thwart march
GUJRAT: Police on Monday besieged the residence and seminary of cleric Pir Afzal Qadri, emir of Aalmi Tanzeem Ahle Sunnat Pakistan, to thwart the religious outfit’s planned march on the Punjab Assembly, Lahore.

Some 40 activists, including the scion of the cleric, have been arrested on their way to Lahore where they wanted to agitate against the conviction of Mumtaz Qadri, assassin of former Punjab governor Salman Taseer.

The march was planned under the aegis of an alliance of different religious outfits.

The law-enforcement agencies (LEAs) besieged the residence of Mr. Qadri located adjacent to his seminary at Mararrian village along Gujrat bypass late on Sunday night to prevent him from marching on Lahore on Monday morning as the police had barricaded Chenab river bridge on GT road.

Police arrested a number of activists of the outfit by raiding their houses late on Sunday whereas two vans carrying activists to Lahore were intercepted at a picket near Chenab river. More than 20 activists, including Siddique Afzal Qadri, were arrested and a few were disembarked from some passenger buses at the same picket.

The preventive measures thwarted the march plan whereas Mr. Qadri was confined to his house; however he reportedly delivered a speech to the participants in a sit-in in Lahore through telephone.

According to a press release issued by the religious outfit, its main leaders including Hafiz Khadim Husain Rizvi, Waleed Sharaqpuri, Mukhtar Rizvi, Ziaul Islam Shah, Pir Zaheerul Hasan Shah, Qari Abu Turab Baloch, Siddique Afzal Qadri and many others from Gujrat, Gujranwala, Sheikhupura and other parts of province had been arrested.

A case has been lodged against the 40 arrested activists with the Saddar Gujrat police under sections 7-ATA, 341 and 506 of PPC, 11-WE and 11-EE on the report of a police official.

Official sources told Dawn that the local administration had made several attempts to dissuade Pir Qadri from the march. The administration held a meeting with his aides and finally his house was besieged to avert any such rally.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Syria forces liberate Ein al-Hanash near Aleppo
[Iran Press TV] Syrian forces have recaptured the village of Ein al-Hanash near the major city of Aleppo in the northwestern part of the country.

An unidentified source told Syria's news agency SANA on Tuesday that an army unit managed to restore security to the village after an intensive operation.

The military's engineering units also dismantled landmines and bombs left behind by the Daesh [Islamic State] Takfiri

terrorists.

Earlier on Tuesday, the so-called Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said Syrian forces liberated the southwestern town of Shaykh Maskin from Daesh [Islamic State], cutting off their routes between the eastern and western sections of Dara'a Province.

The recent advances of the Syrian forces against Daesh [Islamic State] and other terrorist groups have been expedited by the air cover provided by Russia, which began on September 30, 2015, at the request of the Damascus government.

The crisis in Syria, which flared in March 2011, has so far claimed the lives of over 260,000 people and displaced nearly half of the country's population within or out of its borders.

Economy
US on path to have 'dead economy' if debt keeps rising: Economist
[Iran Press TV] The US government’s spending and borrowing policies have dramatically weakened the country’s economy and significantly lowered the standard of living, which may lead to a “dead economy” and political chaos, an American economist says.

“The very things that the government is doing are weakening the US economy,” said William L. Anderson, a professor of economics at Frostburg State University in Maryland.
Unlike the usual run of "analysts" Iran Press runs, Professor Anderson doesn't appear to be a nut or a subversive.
“The government is pushing the economy further into a downward [spiral] and at the same time borrowing more and more to keep things going,” Anderson told Press TV on Tuesday.

“You’ll see the Americans’ standard of living drop rapidly and at that point things become politically much more chaotic here,” he added.
Is this a prediction or an observation ?
The US government will owe $30 trillion in national debt within a decade if the country’s budget deficit continues to grow at the same rate and current tax laws remain in place, according to a new federal report.

The federal deficit will increase in 2016 for the first time since the end of the financial crisis in 2009, and the accompanying public debt could reach crisis-levels in the decades to come, the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) said Monday.

Government budget deficits will continue to rise over the next 10 years, topping $1 trillion again in 2022 and reaching $1.4 trillion in 2026, CBO analysts said.

The accumulation of those deficits will deepen the gross public debt from $18.1 trillion at the end of 2015 to $29.3 trillion in 2026.
What comes after a trillion ?
“When you deal with those kinds of numbers, it would be official the US economy would be dead because there’s no way the US economy can support those kinds of debt levels,” Anderson said.

By contrast, the debt stood at $10.6 trillion when President Barack Obama took office in 2009. Looking decades into the future, the picture only gets worse, the CBO said.

"If current laws generally remained unchanged, the deficit would grow over the next 10 years, and by 2026 it would be considerably larger than its average over the past 50 years," the report said.

The Grand Turk
Turkey buying oil from Daesh: Israel
[Iran Press TV] The Israeli regime, which is itself believed

to be supporting holy warriors in the region, says The Sick Man of Europe Turkey

holy warriors operating in Syria and Iraq through oil trade with them.

"As you know, Daesh [Islamic State] enjoyed Turkish money for oil for a very, very long period of time," Israeli minister for military affairs Moshe Yaalon told news hounds in the Greek capital of Athens on Tuesday.

The comments come as last December, Russia released photos showing columns of tanker trucks purportedly loading oil at Daesh [Islamic State]-controlled installations in Syria and Iraq before entering neighboring Turkey.

Ankara has denied permitting oil smuggling by Daesh [Islamic State] gunnies that control parts of Syria and Iraq.

Elsewhere in his comments, Yaalon said Turkey had allowed holy warriors "to move from Europe to Syria and Iraq and back, as part of Daesh [Islamic State]'s terrorist network."

This is while, according to numerous reports, the Tel Aviv regime has also itself been supporting the holy warriors fighting the government of Syria's Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Horror of Homs...
Israel has set up hospitals near the border with Syria to treat the injured holy warriors coming in from the battlefield there. Locals in the occupied Golan Heights also intercepted Israeli vehicles transporting injured holy warriors on the road between al-Sheikh Mountain and the village of Majdal Sham.
