Hillary Clinton's Truth Problem
h/t Instapundit
The day after she sealed the Democratic presidential nomination, Hillary Clinton took a victory lap of the nation's top newsrooms and delivered the most predictable and practiced comments. She honored her mother. She trashed Donald Trump. She wooed Bernie Sanders' supporters.

...The CNN interview suggests how tone deaf Clinton has become about ethics, specifically concerning how she and her husband blurred the line between her work as secretary of state and their family foundation:

...Just as maddening, Clinton doesn't seem to understand the outrage over her Wall Street speeches.

...Her lack of accountability shines through in the interview with Washington Post reporter Anne Gearan. Clinton takes no responsibility for her low approval and credibility ratings.

Venezuela's top court bans media's publishing videos of lynchings
Now isn't the best time, I guess. Better wait until the socialist government can claim its rightful spot on top of the world's economy.
Venezuela's Supreme Court on Wednesday banned media from publishing videos of lynchings, saying they create "anxiety and uncertainty" in a country ravaged by violent crime and an economic crisis.

The OPEC nation's society is in upheaval amid triple-digit inflation, a deep recession and brutal shortages of food and medicine. As Venezuelans have grown increasingly angry at frequent thefts, hold-ups and homicides, mob beatings and lynchings have increased in the country, which is already one of the world's most violent.

Gory videos of mob justice or photos of bloody corpses sometimes make the rounds on social media. President Nicolas Maduro's socialist government says the footage is part of a larger plan to sully his administration and stoke unrest in an attempt to unseat him.

In its statement, the top court, which Venezuela's opposition accuses of being subservient to Maduro, singled out two digital outlets, but said the ban applies to all media.

"The Supreme Court has ordered a ban on digital outlets 'La Patilla' and 'Caraota Digital' from publishing videos of lynchings, via their internet sites, as well as their social media accounts," the top judicial body said in a statement, while noting the broader ban.

"Media have the right to journalistically express a news event ... but these rights should not create anxiety and uncertainty in the population," the court said.
We don't want people to know that things aren't going as well as they ought to. They couldn't figure it out if it weren't for these reports!
There is no official public data on lynchings in Venezuela. Leading non-governmental organizations say the phenomenon is on the rise, fueled by Venezuelans' sense of helplessness in the face of crime. Courts are slow, judges are sometimes on the take and criminals are frequently released right after arrest, according to non-profit groups.

Venezuela's opposition, which is trying to remove Maduro via a recall referendum, scoffed at the ban.

"Lynchings don't happen because of media, as the Supreme Court assumes, but rather because of impunity and the judicial system's inefficiency," tweeted Luis Izquiel, a lawyer and the opposition coalition's security coordinator.

Trigger Warning: Meet ‘Generation Snowflake' – The Hysterical Young Women Who Can't Cope With Being Offended
Mostly, I like the term "Generation Snowflake". :-)
British thinktank boss says mollycoddled kids are breaking down in tears when asked to deal with controversial ideas

Claire Fox, head of a thinktank called the Institute of Ideas, has penned a coruscating critique of "Generation Snowflake", the name given to a growing group of youngsters who "believe it's their right to be protected from anything they might find unpalatable".

She said British and American universities are dominated by cabals of young women who are dead set on banning anything they find remotely offensive.

"It makes me sad that these teens and 20-somethings have become so fearful that they believe a dissenting opinion can pose such a serious threat," Fox wrote in an article for Mail Online.

This hyper-sensitivity has prompted the University of East Anglia to outlaw sombreros in a Mexican restaurant and caused the National Union of Student to ban clapping as "as it might trigger trauma", asking youngsters to use "jazz hands" instead.

Books containing troublesome material are now slapped with "trigger warnings", whilst universities and student unions are declared "safe spaces" where young people should not have to encounter anything they disagree with.

Fox described astonishing scenes at an event set up to discuss whether the public outcry against footballer Ched Evans was "social justice or mob rule".

The academic said her mostly female audience broke down in tears after she "dared suggest (as eminent feminists have before me) that rape wasn't necessarily the worst thing a woman could experience".

Fox added: "I expected robust discussion -- not for them all to dissolve into outraged gasps of, 'You can't say that'

"Their reaction shocked me. I take no pleasure in making teenagers cry, but it also brought home the contrast to previous generations of young people, who would have relished the chance to argue back.

"It illustrated this generation's almost belligerent sense of entitlement. They assume their emotional suffering takes precedence. Express a view they disagree with and you must immediately recant and apologise."

Generation Snowflake has also created a social minefield for young boys and men, who risk being labelled "sex pests" for twanging a girl's bra at school, Fox continued.

She said women were opting to stay at home and socialise on the internet due to overblown fears about predatory men.

"There is a strand of self-absorption and fragility running through this generation; all too ready to cry 'victim' at the first hint of a situation they don't like," Fox concluded.

"We need a younger generation that's prepared to grow a backbone, go out into the world, take risks and make difficult decisions. Otherwise the future doesn't bode well for any of us."

Hezbollah moving 'tons of cocaine' in Latin America, Europe to finance terror operations
[Wash Times] Hezbollah's terrorism finance operations are thriving across Latin America months after the Drug Enforcement Administration linked the Iran-backed Lebanese militant group to drug cartels in the region, U.S. lawmakers were told Wednesday.

Former DEA operations chief Michael Braun said Hezbollah is "moving [multiple] tons of cocaine" from South America to Europe and has developed "the most sophisticated money laundering scheme or schemes that we have ever witnessed."

The agency announced in February that it had arrested several Hezbollah operatives accused of working with a major Colombian drug cartel to traffic drugs to Europe and launder money through Lebanon. Those arrests come against a backdrop of rising fears in Washington about smuggling connections between Middle East terrorist groups and the Western Hemisphere.

Hezbollah has "metastasized into a hydra with international connections that the likes of [the Islamic State] and groups like al Qaeda could only hope to have," Mr. Braun told the House Financial Services Committee.

Adding to concerns about security threats from Central and South America, intelligence reports have also tracked how smugglers managed to sneak illegal immigrants from the Middle Eastern and South Asia straight to the doorstep of the U.S. -- including helping one Afghan who U.S. authorities say was part of an attack plot in North America.

Yellowstone Norris Geyser man update.
Yellowstone National Park rangers have suspended efforts to recover the body of an Oregon man who fell into a boiling hot spring on Tuesday, The Associated Press reports.

"They were able to recover a few personal effects," park spokeswoman Charissa Reid told AP on Wednesday. "There were no remains left to recover."

Colin Nathaniel Scott, 23, from Portland, Oregon, was with his sister, Sable Scott, when he left the boardwalk near Pork Chop Geyser, park officials said.

"We extend our sympathy to the Scott family," Yellowstone Superintendent Dan Wenk said in a statement Wednesday. "This tragic event must remind all of us to follow the regulations and stay on boardwalks when visiting Yellowstone's geyser basins."

Top Maoist leader nabbed in Surigao del Norte
[Manila Times] A top communist insurgent leader in Surigao del Norte and two others were captured by Philippine security forces on Monday afternoon during a pursuit operation in a remote village in Claver town.

Police spokesman Michael Lozada identified the arrested New People's Army leader as Jonathan Cadaan Peñaflor alias "Jojo Peñaflor." The spokesman said Peñaflor was captured by a joint security team during a manhunt operation in the town.

Lozada said that Peñaflor, along with two others, identified as Lurkan and Albert, were captured when government forces swooped down on Peñaflor's rented home. He said Peñaflor was the commanding officer of the Sangay sa Partido Platoon 21C, Guerilla Front Committee 21 of the North Eastern Mindanao Committee of the Communist Party of the Philippines-NPA.

Lozada said the suspect had been under surveillance for a year, and they received information a week ago that he was in Claver town before he was taken into custody. He said the raiding team reported that Peñaflor, who had been linked to several rebel atrocities in the region, did not resist arrest.

Peñaflor’s arrest comes a few days after security forces captured two high profile NPA leaders during an operation by police and military forces in Butuan City in Agusan del Sur. Arrested there were Rodolfo Bungolto alias Itom/Loloy, Danilo Acania, Jek-jek Borja and Tata Borja, alias Anatalio Pison.

Bungolto is the commanding officer of the Militia ng Bayan and team leader of Guerilla Front Committee 4A Sparu unit, while Acania is the former deputy secretary of GFC 4A and commanding officer of the Policard NPA platoon.

How to Defeat the Islamic State
We know how to crush international terrorism—we simply choose to forget what actually works

#1  Yes, indeed. "We know how to crush" them. Operation Reindeer was a textbook example of a highly successful vertical insertion against terrorists. Attempting to solve the problem by picking the leadership one at a time is a fools errand.

Ironically, Operation Reindeer was largely modeled after successful U.S. counter-terr operations in Southeast Asia and elsewhere.

Government
A River of BS and an Ocean of Delusion -€“ Just another day at the Pentagon
[US Defense Watch] The destruction of the US military keeps humming along at a breakneck pace.

According to the Pentagon and the Faustian Sellouts of the Round Table, aka the Joint Chiefs of Staff, things are going splendidly in the US military.

As the military reels from severe readiness, morale and social issues, you will consistently hear some bureaucratic clown like Secretary of Defense Ash Carter declare that this is the best military the US has ever fielded.

Hmm?..

In the screenwriting world, they call that "a beat," aka dead silence.

Let’s take a look at how well things are going these days:

Operation Kamikaze, the force fed integration of women into the combat arms and special operations is progressing gradually, like a slow IV drip of death in Doctor Kevorkian’s Ambulance of No Return. The Army and the Marines are as busy as Keebler Elves as they scramble to accommodate females in units that have been all male since Christ was a corporal. Latrines and showers are being modified and standards are being chain sawed into the abyss known as gender neutrality.

What kind of recruits will the new gender neutral combat arms have? A buddy of mine, a former US Army officer related a good story to me this week. He spoke of a conversation he had with a waitress in one of his local haunts. The young woman is out of shape, 40 pounds overweight and a lesbian. She told him she can’t wait to sign up for the Army and get into a tough combat arms unit.

Obviously, she’s been watching a lot of TV cops shows where the bulimic bimbo detective goes Steven Seagal on East LA gang bangers.

Obama’s Flying Circus is in town and it’s attracting every possible freak show performer: the gay soldier named Chad, the transgender Marine, Chastity; the delusional You Go Girl feminist with a hyphenated last name and the Millennial kid who’s only muscular development is in his texting thumbs and who thinks real war is like Call of Duty 5.0.

#1  Unless things have changed since 20 to 25 years ago, people in uniforms don't count for much at the five sided nut. Political appointees and career feather merchants are the ones who are actually in charge. The civilians are all assigned to.... "B Company."

#2  No it's not normal society. It's not a civilian enterprise. Even the founder understood that. That is why the Constitution called for a separate set of laws governing land and naval forces. Any other job you can basically give two weeks notice and depart, not the military. It's the idiots and fools who every so often try to 'civilianize' the place, particularly those who have zero understand or even contact beyond Hollyweird of what its all about. There are no appeals, no judges, no public opinion in the most pure Darwinistic environment anyone has to face. The enemy doesn't care about how you feel or what you believe, they just want to kill you.

#3  The current administration is going full tilt in their efforts to dismantle our defense industry, both active military and the civilian defense industry. The freak show is the emotional smoke screen to the real damage. The fat chick and fags will go to basic, cry a lot, and then take their discharge and never see a combat unit. Who cares. What is going on behind the screen is the full dismantling of our readiness. Not based off of manpower but equipment based. The marine aviation fleet is at 30% combat ready. The Army and Navy are looking at the same numbers. Sec Def's number one priority is not to bring more dollars into DOD. His number one priority is to stop sequestration in 2018. We have yet to stop the bleeding, let alone fix it. And every time we start to talk readiness we are fixated with fags and fat chicks, number of bathrooms and feelings. We need to step away and refuse to discuss the fags and talk about what it takes to defend this nation get our combat readiness back up to standard. The gay thing will sort itself out, the readiness will not.
Posted by: 49 Pan || 06/09/2016 12:57 Comments || Top||

#4  There is enough money in DoD to increase readiness and keep enough ammo in stock to fight a real war. However, there is a deficit in moral courage to cut out the expensive contractors and "do nothing" civilians that are only there for a paycheck.

Yemen breakthrough in Kuwait talks
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Significant progress has been made in the Kuwait talks surrounding Yemen’s military and security arrangements, including arrangements on how to secure the war-torn country’s capital, a government source has said following meetings with the UN envoy Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed.

The unnamed source added that there were now "understandings" for the discussion of details surrounding the formation of a government, following the completion of arrangements for military withdrawals.

The source said the discussions between the government delegation and the UN envoy addressed the abolition of the constitutional declaration announced by the militias, and its administrative repercussions, as well as the restoration of state institutions. They also addressed the removal of all obstacles detracting from the work of the government, following the withdrawal from the cities in accordance to plans put forward by the UN envoy.

The first designated regions to be included in the withdrawal plans are the capital Sana'a and the governorates of Amran, Hodeidah. But there are further discussions taking place over adding two other regions for the withdrawal of militias.

Sources said they were expecting the UN envoy would present his comprehensive plan, drawn up with ambassadors of the Security Council, to both sides involved in the conflict within the coming days.

Sources have said Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic...
has achieved a breakthrough in the ongoing Kuwait talks, agreeing on the formation of a transitional government, but have failed to reach an agreement on the date for this body to be formed.

The legitimate government representatives have suggested that the military committee finish its task of overseeing the militia withdrawal from cities and collecting weapons.

Rebels kidnap 100 civilians in DR Congo: UN
[Iran Press TV] Suspected Ugandan rebels have kidnapped about 100 people during an attack in the troubled northeastern Democratic Republic of the Congo
...formerly the Congo Free State, Belgian Congo, Zaire, and who knows what else, not to be confused with the Brazzaville Congo aka Republic of Congo, which is much smaller and much more (for Africa) stable. With a population of about 74 million it has lots of raw material...
, the UN says.

Lieutenant-Colonel Martin Amouzou Codjo, front man for the UN Stabilization Mission in the DR Congo (MONUSCO), told a press briefing on Wednesday that members of Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) kidnapped the civilians during an assault on two villages during the attack in Bas-Uele province on June 4.

He said rebels also went on a looting spree across the volatile region. "These attackers also kidnapped nearly a hundred people to carry the loot," Codjo told a presser in the capital, Kinshasa.

The front man also strongly denounced the regular atrocities committed by the ruthless LRA against civilians in the northeast of the African country.

Daesh blows up ancient monuments in Iraq
[Iran Press TV] A recent video, purportedly released by the ISIS Takfiri
...an adherent of takfir wal hijra, an offshoot of Salafism that regards everybody who doesn't agree with them as apostates who must be killed...
terrorists, shows the destruction of several ancient monuments in northern Iraq by the terrorist group.

In the video, a bully boy dressed in black vows to destroy the 2,500-year-old temple of Nabu in the ISIS-held Iraqi ancient Assyrian city of Nimrud before a massive blast reduces a building to rubble. Information signs on the Nabu temple wall before the kaboom are also shown from a number of different angles.

It is not known when the ISIS gunnies targeted the Nabu temple.

The footage also shows the destruction of the reconstructed Adad and Mashki Gates and a large portion of Nineveh’s fortification wall.

Takfiri bandidos forces of Evil have demolished several holy shrines and mosques belonging to Shia and Sunni Moslems in the militancy-riddled regions of Nineveh province.

ISIS has destroyed several ancient monuments in northern Iraq and neighboring Syria.

Earlier this year, shocking pictures showed how ISIS gunnies had destroyed ancient monuments in the Syrian city of Palmyra. The gunnies sparked a global fury when they started destroying Palmyra's treasured monuments.

#2  Crimes against humanity rocks?

Crimes against history. If history is destroyed, your traditions become whatever they tell you. This is a more extreme form of the "politically correct" movement censoring history.

For ancient history, this is important because so few ancient artifacts have been recovered, and even fewer were recovered in a scientific way so that we can understand the artifacts in context.

P.S. Nimrud is in the Bible as the city of Calah
Genesis 10. ISIS has been destroying and looting the site since April, 2015.

Boko Haram attacks Yobe town, 2 security men missing

forces of Evil attacked and maimed three security operatives in Kanamma, the headquarters of Yunusari Local Government Area of Yobe State.

A resident who fled to neighbouring Niger Republic told our correspondent on Tuesday that the attackers stormed the town on four cycle of violences, each carrying three gunnies.

"They shot sporadically and everyone scampered for safety. They burgled soft drinks shops and loaded them onto two vehicles they seized from security operatives and fled," he said

Police Public Relation Officer, ASP Toyin Gbadegesin, who confirmed the attack, said three coppers were maimed during the encounter while two were still missing.

"No human casualty was recorded. But three coppers were maimed while two others got missing. It’s difficult to ascertain the security personnel involved because there’s no mobile network in the area," he said.

Man admits taking $250K from Head Start; bought Maserati, mink coat
[NJ] The former executive director of a former Head Start program in Jersey City Tuesday admitted that he diverted more than $250,000 from programs for underprivileged children and used the money for personal expenses, including a Maserati and a mink coat, prosecutors said.

Robert E. Mays, 38, pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Susan D. Wigenton in federal court to one count of wire fraud.
One count? ONE? Criminy, what did he trade the federal prosecutors in that plea bargain?
According to court papers charging him, Mays in 2013 forged records and duped employees at the Jersey City Child Development Centers into believing that its board of directors had raised his salary 61 percent to $155,000 after acting as executive director for only two months.

Mays was fired in May of 2014, after the board learned of the salary boost, court records say.

Mays also admitted that he withdrew cash from the agency's account in part to pay for the 2007 Maserati, which would have cost more than $100,000 on the market at the time.

Syrians flee ISIS-held town as US-backed group approaches
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Thousands of civilians fled a northern Syrian town in anticipation of a final push by US-backed forces to liberate it from ISIS rule Wednesday, as Arclight airstrikes pounded rebel-held districts in Aleppo, killing 15 civilians and damaging 3 hospitals.

The Syrian Democratic Forces have all but encircled Manbij, a key waypoint on an ISIS supply line between the Turkish border and the turban group’s de-facto capital, Raqqa, according to an SDF adviser.

Nasser Haj Mansour said the ISIS group was allowing families to flee the town to nearby Jarablus and al-Bab. Some civilians fled to liberated villages and to the advancing forces, the adviser told the AP by messaging service from his position near the front line. He estimated some 15,000 civilians had fled.

Iraq
ISIS uses food to recruit cannon fodder
GARMA, Iraq: Iraqis who fled Daesh-held Fallujah as government and allied forces advanced on the city said they had survived on stale dates and the terrorists were using food to enlist fighters whose relatives were going hungry.

The extremists have kept a close guard on food storage in the besieged city near Baghdad that they captured in January 2014, six months before they declared a caliphate across large parts of Iraq and Syria.

The terrorists visited families regularly after food ran short with offers of supplies for those who enlisted, said 23-year-old Hanaa Mahdi Fayadh from Sijir on the northeastern outskirts of Falluja.

“They told our neighbor they would give him a sack of flour if his son joined them; he refused and when they had gone, he fled with his family,” she said.

“We left because there was no food or wood to make fires, besides, the shelling was very close to our house.”

She and others interviewed in a school transformed into a refugee center in Garma, a town under government control east of Fallujah, said they had no money to buy food from the group. The Iraqi government stopped paying the salaries of employees there and in other cities under Daesh control a year ago to stop the group seizing the funds.

Fayadh escaped Sijir on May 27, four days after the government offensive on Fallujah. Of the 1,500 displaced people who found refuge in the school in Garma were women and children, because the army takes men for screening over possible ties with Daesh.

Crackdown after Hindu priest killed in Bangladesh
[DAWN] Bangladesh police on Tuesday launched a deadly crackdown on Islamist bandidos gunnies as a 70-year-old Hindu priest became the latest victim in a series of gruesome killings by suspected murderous Moslems.

Two "high-ranking" members of the Jamayetul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) were rubbed out in a gunbattle with security personnel in Dhaka and another was killed in a north-western district, police said.

The two JMB members killed in the capital had roles "in most of the recent attacks" including the bombing of a Shia mosque and the murder of a liberal professor, said deputy commissioner of police M.R Khaled.

The third victim was killed in a shootout in the town of Godagari in the north-western district of Rajshahi, said local police chief Abu Forhad. The authorities have blamed homegrown Islamists for the recent attacks, rejecting claims of responsibility from the murderous Moslem Islamic State

(IS) group and a South Asia branch of Al Qaeda.

IS grabbed credit for murder of the latest victim, Hindu priest Ananda Gopal Ganguly, whose head was nearly severed. The group, through its Amaq news agency, said it "assassinated" the priest, according to the SITE monitoring group, as he was walking to prayers.

Farmers discovered Ganguly’s body in a rice field near his home in the village of Noldanga in the western district of Jhenidah.

China-Japan-Koreas
Vietnam, China Ban Blacklisted N.Korean Officials
North Korea's long-term allies Vietnam and China have banned North Korean officials blacklisted by the UN. Flag carrier Vietnam Airlines asked travel agencies in mid-May to blacklist 16 North Korean officials subject to UN Security Council sanctions.

Vietnam has been implementing the sanctions more strictly since Washington lifted an embargo on sales of weapons to Hanoi, according to UPI. On April 23, Hanoi expelled Choe Song-il, the deputy chief of the branch of North Korea’s Tanchon Commercial Bank. The bank is suspected of laundering money earned from the North's sales of weapons overseas and financing the regime's nuclear and missile programs.

China also banned a North Korean diplomat in charge of arms deals who was attempting to enter through Beijing Capital International Airport on May 20. The man is believed to be Jang Yong-son, a North Korea Mining Development Trading Corporation representative in Iran, who flew in from Tehran.

Chinese officials tried to send him back to Iran, but he resisted so they sent him to Pyongyang.
That'll teach him!

EgyptAir jet lands in Uzbekistan after hoax bomb threat
[BBC] An EgyptAir plane that was forced to land in Uzbekistan due to a hoax bomb threat has been cleared to resume its journey from Cairo to Beijing.

All 118 passengers and 17 crew on board the Airbus A330-220 were evacuated at Urgench International Airport.

The aircraft was searched by Uzbek security forces but no bomb was found, Egyptian officials said.

Three weeks ago, an EgyptAir flight from Gay Paree to Cairo carrying 66 people crashed into the Mediterranean Sea.

The cause of the crash remains a mystery, although Egyptian officials have said an act of terrorism is more likely than a technical failure.

French Sherlocks said last week that signals from one of the plane's black boxes had been detected about 290km (180 miles north) of the Egyptian coast.

'Anonymous caller'

The chairman of EgyptAir, Safwat Mussallam, told the AFP news agency that Flight MS955 left Cairo at 21:55 GMT (23:55 Cairo time) on Tuesday and was scheduled to land in Beijing at 07:34 GMT (15:34 Beijing time) on Wednesday.

During the flight, an anonymous caller telephoned security agents in Cairo to say a bomb was on board the aircraft and the pilot was told to land at the nearest airport.

Afghanistan
Taliban kidnap more passengers from Kunduz highway
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The Talibs have once again kidnapped scores of passengers from a highway in northern Kunduz province of Afghanistan.

The incident took place earlier today after the Taliban gunnies stopped a vehicle from Kunduz-Takhar highway.

Provincial police front man Mahfuzullah Akbari said at least 47 passengers were kidnapped from the center of Kunduz in Malraghi village as they were on their way to Takhar province.

Earlier, a local official said at least 30 people have been taken hostage but the Talibs group has not commented regarding the report so far.

This comes almost a week after the Taliban gunnies kidnapped at least 185 passengers from the same highway and killed at least 17 of them.

The Taliban gunnies kidnapped the passengers from several buses, vans and cars as they were travelling in the highway between Kunduz and Takhar but majority of them were released after they were interrogated.

It is believed at least eight of the kidnapped passengers are still in Taliban captivity as the security officials are saying efforts are underway for their release.

CII reform a priority
[DAWN] THE issues raised by the Maulana Sheerani-led Council of Islamic Ideology’s keenness to ensure that wife-beating does not end in Pakistain will be solved neither by protests by women activists nor by the growing storm on social media. The real issue is whether the Moslems of Pakistain can afford to be led by the nose by a state institution determined to prevent their release from concepts unjustly described as Islamic.

No informed Pak should have been surprised by the CII’s latest broadside because the council has been proclaiming its love of retrogression quite regularly. Its liking for corporal punishment in schools and child marriage, its rejection of co-education in post-primary institutions and women’s working with men in offices and factories, and its closed mind on the rights of non-Moslem Paks have long confirmed it as the champion of narrow-minded conservatism. What it has done now is to sum up its case for denying women’s basic rights.

These efforts of the CII have off and on revived debates on the justification for its existence. It has often been pointed out that the CII opposes the Moslem people’s right to interpret Islam so as to enable them to face the challenges of the age and defreeze the Islamic fiqh, an objective for which Iqbal had called for a Moslem homeland in the subcontinent. Iqbal had also specifically opposed the creation of a body of Learned Elders of Islam to advise democratically elected representatives on religious issues on the grounds that parliaments alone were competent to rule on religious questions as well as on other issues.

...which coincidentally borders South Wazoo...
province.

Waziri further added that a vehicle packed with explosives was also destroyed in the air raid.

Kenyan forces intensify security operations in Garissa, Mandera

The intensified patrols in surrounding localities come just days after a deadly attack on a security convoy that subjected three police officers to minor injuries suspected to be caused by the Al-Shabaab militia.

According to a source within the military that sought anonymity, the operation is meant to hunt down the dangerous attackers believed to be hiding along the Kenya-Somalia border with intentions of conducting more attacks on the adjacent areas.

Residents of Mandera town said they saw lorries ferrying heavily armed offers patrolling across the villages of Mandera district and even conducting massive searches on the suspected areas.

On Saturday morning, a police convoy was hit by an improvised explosive along the Lafey-Fino road. The injured officers are said to have been in a patrol mission when the attack happened. Chad sends 2,000 troops to Niger for counterattack on Boko Haram
[DAILYMAIL.CO.UK] Chad has sent 2,000 troops to Niger to prepare a counterattack against Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
after the Death Eater group seized a Nigerien town, two senior military sources said on Wednesday.

The sources, one at Chadian military command in N'Djamena and another in the Lake Chad region where Boko Haram operates, told Rooters the troops arrived on Tuesday and were advancing on Bosso, a town near Lake Chad that has been the scene of festivities in recent days.

Boko Haram killed 30 soldiers and forced 50,000 people to flee when it took Bosso on Friday, its deadliest raid in Niger in over a year.

"About 2,000 soldiers with tanks went into Niger yesterday. They should link up with the Nigerien forces in Diffa and advance on Bosso," said one of the Chadian military sources.

A security source in Niger confirmed that about 2,000 troops were heading to Bosso on Wednesday.

Clashes have continued in Bosso in recent days. Niger troops briefly regained control of Bosso on Saturday, according to the defense ministry, but the murderous Moslems retook it on Sunday, Bosso Mayor Mamadou Bako said.

Boko Haram has been trying to establish an Islamic state adhering to strict Sharia, Islamic law, in northeast Nigeria
... a particularly crimson stretch of Islam's bloody border...
since 2009. About 2.1 million people have been displaced and thousands killed during the insurgency.

Chad's intervention comes after Niger President Mahamadou Issoufou flew to Chad for talks with President Idriss Deby on Tuesday.

IS being squeezed in Sirte in three-way pincer movement
The IS/DAESH forces occupying the central Libyan city of Sirte since February 2014 are slowly being squeezed in a three-way pincer movement from the west, south and east, the Tripoli-based Bunyan Marsous Operation Room reports. They report that IS are on the retreat.

The three-pronged attack is by forces now allied to Faiez Serraj and his Presidential Council (PC)/Government of National Accord (GNA). They represent in the west the Misratan-led forces and from the east the Petroleum Facilities Guards (PFG), who have recently allied themselves with the Misrata-led forces.

The Misratan-led forces today report that they are now just over 5 km from central Sirte, which is 450 km from the capital Tripoli, after reaching the Zafaran roundabout.

The Operations Room today put up videos purporting to show them at Abuhadi roundabout in the south and Aljaalet barracks south of that. They claim they have progressed as far as Gharbiat bridge in the south west and Taghreft barracks.

On the coastal road western front, the Operations Room reports that fighting is continuing today at the Zafran roundabout involving ground forces, the airforce and the navy which has involved the heavy bombardment of ISpositions

The effort has come at a cost in terms of loss of life with at least 150 deaths reported. Only today, 6 deaths and 30 wounded were reported by Misrata hospital.

The GNA-allied forces made up of various militias groups led by those from Misrata, reported having to constantly deal with booby-trapped/IED by left by retreating IS, including in vehicles.

The Operation Room’s Media Centre had previously reported that air support has helped ground troops reach the Gulf Power Station, Wadi Jarf and surrounding village where residents welcomed them. They reported that IS had fled the fighting arena. The Media Room said that IS were unable to resist the heavy artillery and air bombardment, resorting to booby-traps/IEDs.

China-Japan-Koreas
Poland stops receiving N. Korean workers amid sanctions
Poland has stopped allowing North Korean workers into the country as part of broader efforts to punish Pyongyang for its nuclear and missile programs, a South Korean government official said Tuesday.
Good. Now break relations and offer sanctuary to any North Korean who can get to Poland...
Cho June-hyuck, spokesman of Seoul's foreign ministry, confirmed a report by the Washington-based Voice of America that Poland has not received any North Korean workers since the communist country conducted its fourth nuclear test in January.

"The issue of overseas North Korean workers has increasingly caused concern within the international community from the perspective of human rights abuses and the flow of money into the North," Cho said during a regular press briefing. "The Polish government also decided early this year to halt the issuance of new visas to North Korean workers."

North Korea is believed to have more than 50,000 workers stationed in some 50 countries, including China and Russia, to earn money for its cash-strapped regime.

Several hundred North Koreans are currently estimated to be working in Poland. Under the new measure, they will not be allowed to renew their visas.
Offer them asylum...
Cho said other countries in Africa, the Middle East and Europe have also taken steps to reduce the number of North Korean laborers they receive by cracking down on illegal immigrants and not renewing work contracts.

"Our government takes note of such efforts by the international community to address the issue of overseas North Korean workers and plans to continue to seek possible steps in cooperation with the international community," he said.

The U.N. Security Council in March adopted tough sanctions against Pyongyang to punish the regime for its nuclear test and banned long-range rocket launch in February. The sanctions, along with those imposed separately by South Korea, the United States and other nations, are designed to starve Pyongyang of the resources it needs to develop its nuclear and missile programs.

Bangladesh
Bangladesh killings
[DAWN] IN the recent past, Bangladesh has seen a notable rise in the number of grisly killings believed to have been carried out by krazed killer elements.

Police launched a crackdown on Tuesday after the murder of a Hindu priest in one of the country’s western districts.

Earlier on Sunday, the wife of a police officer tracing bandidos Lions of Islam and a Christian businessman were killed in different incidents.

In fact, the list of targets is quite extensive, and seems to be expanding. Amongst those who have been killed so far are bloggers and academics, while religious minorities are also in the cross hairs.

Shia, Sufi, Ahmadi and Buddhist individuals or places of worship have all been targeted.

According to the Bangladeshi media, in the last 18 months at least 47 people have been killed. While the state says it is fighting back, critics and rights groups have claimed that the government in Dhaka is not doing enough. For example, Amnesia Amnesty International has said the killings have created "a climate of impunity", and has urged the authorities to deliver justice.

Pakistain knows the dangers of letting extremism and militancy go unchecked and Bangladesh would do well to address the problem before violence becomes uncontrollable.

Amongst the groups believed to be involved in the bloodshed are Jamaatul Mujahideen Bangladesh as well as local affiliates of Al Qaeda and the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
murderous Moslem group.

Though the state has largely rejected the presence of Al Qaeda and IS fighters, media reports indicate otherwise.

Some Bangladeshi papers have published extensive information on the murderous Moslems’ actions; it has been revealed that a number of Bangladeshi bandidos Lions of Islam have fought for IS in Syria and have now returned home.

For the Bangladesh government to deny the existence of foreign-linked fighters will not make them go away.

Dhaka needs to redouble its counterterrorism efforts and break the networks of krazed killers, or else radical elements could seriously harm the fabric of society through their tactics of brutality and violence.

How to Defeat the Islamic State

#1  A good enough read and makes some excellent observations. Yet, also makes the same painful mistake we see time and again with not laying full blame on the intentions of the Obama regime. They did not "choose to forget". They planned. They implemented.

#2  In theory, SOF from the United States and allied countries are supposed to enable locals to defeat ISIS, with assistance from Western airpower. However, that approach has never worked as advertised, despite the frequent killings of senior Islamic State officials by our airplanes and drones.

Yes, yes, yes! A fact, a recipe for failure that many posters have been harping on in this blog for fok'n years !

#3  How to defeat Islamic State? You won't get ANYWHERE without addressing the cultural failure within your intelligence community.

Ever since 9/11 they have been shoving the message "don't offend muslims, don't let the terrorists turn it into a war against all Muslims" so our polity and media have shut down all honest reporting of the issue to the point where terrorist attacks are reported with no mention of Islamist theocratic fascism as the motivating ideology.

You are losing and this is the reason why.

If you want to defeat IS you need to do this:

1) Recognise who your real enemy is. It's NOT Islamic State. Your enemy is Islamist theocratic fascism. It's an ideology not a criminal group.

2) Declare war on the "Caliphate". The geographical territory declared a Caliphate is your great gift - so use it. Recognise it as a state, and declare war on it - but do NOT actually fight it.

Declaring war triggers Treason legislation so you can go after those in the Five Eyes nations who push sharia.

Pushing sharia is treason. People who push sharia are Islamist theocrats.

3) Deport or lock up Islamist theocrats.

4) Give shelter to demonstrated Secular Muslims, gay Muslims, feminist Muslims who flee Islamist theocrats.

5) Ban Muslim immigration including anyone from OIC countries and known Muslims from non-OIC countries temporarily until IS are defeated.

6) Cut Saudi funding to any mosques, educational institutions, think tanks, or any other cultural institution in the Five Eyes alliance. Send their ambassadors back home to Riyadh. Cut all ties and trade. Get all your oil from Venezuela. BOYCOTT Saudi.

7) Shut down all mosques started or funded by Saudi Arabia in the Five Eyes. Saudi Arabia funded the spread of theocratic Islamist fascism.

8) Secure your own borders and root out the problem within.

9) Ignore the Caliphate. Let China and Russia deal with it.

10) all Migrants to Europe should be immediately iris scanned, fingerprinted and put into work camps for a period of 2 years. Any that don't want this arrangement are free to be deported back to Turkey. They will be trained for 1 year by the IDF: women and men. They will wear overalls. No hijabs. No religion. No korans. No praying. They will live on barracks and learn comparative religion, enlightenment principles and how to vote civilly along with a common language (suggest English) and how to rebuild infrastructure: roads, sewers, bridges, making a rubbish collection system.

They will live on barracks. Any committing violence or caught spreading religion or not obeying the rules get instant deportation to Turkey, never to return.

For the 2nd year of service they will be sent to Syria, even if they are from Africa, and they will rebuild areas that china/russia clear of Islamists.

The area cleared and rebuilt will be run by the Kurds as an occupying force. They will supervise elections.

Public religious worship will be banned from the occupied area for the next 50 years. No religion in schools other than comparative religion. No mosques.

But the really most important thing about defeating the Caliphate is to defeat its Muslim Brotherhood ideology At home IN YOUR OWN COUNTRY

#4  Operation Inherent Resolve should be renamed Operation Deliberate Indifference. A couple of rants:

- DoD lacks the ability to sustain a serious effort to defeat these folks...very few leaders stay on the task for more than 1 to 2 years before they move on with their careers. In the DoD careers come first! DoD careerists will ignore the bad news, pass the buck and move up...

- while the threat exploits our vulnerable supply lines, and our inability to identify and counter their funding streams... Its like feeling good about pulling the heads off dandelions...makes a good initial appearance tactically, but until we kill the strategic roots and the threat sustainment, the tactical leaders and soldiers will continue to replace themselves.

Hit them hard tactically while burning down the financiers' houses. Put fear into the perfumed princes that wittingly fund these folks.

Everyone in both parties and the press screamed bloody murder and yet he had a good point and a reasonable approach in an attempt to solving a problem an extant problem.

#9  anon1 comments sound a lot like the disengagement I've been known to advocate. I think the war against radical Islam should be fought in Europe and America because the Middle East is a lost cause and it's not our problem anyway. I think it should be very simple: We don't go there and they don't come here. If they try to come here we shoot them. Those who are already here get deported. Check back in a thousand years and see if they've become a bit more reasonable.

Sorry if that sounds isolationist but it seems pretty clear that our interventions in the Middle East have all gone badly both for the locals and us. Our policy should be to let them figure it out for themselves.

#10  Yes Grom - it needs to be recognised that we are up against a political ideology like communism and marxism.

Your enemy is NOT islamic state

If you defeat islamic state militarily you will just get another one. Just like al-Qaeda.

There are hundreds all spawned off the same root.

For 15 years the military have been fighting the symptoms and it is useless to do so without getting rid of the cause. All you do is waste money and lives.

Theocratic political Islamism = politics.

Secular Muslims = religious people who pray

SO - declaring war on the Caliphate (the entire concept of the Caliphate) so as to use treason laws against the pushers of sharia -- this would not violate religious freedom to an unconscionable degree because it is not a religion it is a political ideology.

Demanding sharia to replace secular laws passed by parliament is treason

It is no different to demanding German laws should rule over German migrants to Poland eg.

It is an invasion. It is loss of sovereignty over part of your population

It is treason pure and simple

SO start acting on it

This is what has been needed since 2001 but the intelligence community had a big brain fart.

They thought that to separate the secular Muslims (religion) from the Islamist theocratic fascists (politics) would mean we would turn 1.2 billion global muslims against us

This is wrong

Secular Muslims are in a struggle with theocratic fascists everywhere, across sects.

By extending help and refuge to the true reformers, to the Raif Badawis and the victims of theocracy you will demonstrate to them this is not true.

Our intelligence services have given the wrong intel to successive Five Eyes administrations and look at the results. FAILURE

It's time to try honestly naming the enemy and tackling it head on.

That means cutting off Saudi Arabia and tackling the cultural persuasion of the Muslim Brotherhood

Saudi Arabia was a cold war ally but it was not really an ally at all. It created this problem and guess what? The cold war is over.

That is why Trump is the best possible candidate. He gets this.
Posted by: anon1 || 06/09/2016 23:19 Comments || Top||

#11  ps: agreed anonymous poster on disengagement with the ME.

You are bang on target

it's not our problem. They don't come here, and we don't go there

We don't accept migrants from there, and they can sit in their dust bowl and shoot at each other

don't give them technology just seal them off for a few centuries until they emerge from barbarism.
Posted by: anon1 || 06/09/2016 23:21 Comments || Top||

#12  ps - yes John QC I totally agree.

This is why I am so excited about Trump potentially winning the presidency

for the first time ever somebody who gets it might get in

(if he can avoid assassination both PR and physical)

In the Cold War did we allow mass communist migration? NO - the occassional defector.

But they had to "defect" and renounce.

#13  Hello Skidmark

the difference between political Islamists and the amish etc, is that political Islamists seek to impose their supremacist system over everyone despite borders.

The amish just want to be left alone and cause no problem.

So in principle the two are different. One is a lifestyle based on a religion.

The other is a political system that seeks domination.

SO one is protected by "freedom of religion"

the other is a treasonous political movement that seeks to destroy and supplant the entire system we cherish.

(IraqiNews.com) Nineveh – A security source in Nineveh Province revealed on Tuesday, that 50 people had resorted to the Peshmerga forces north of the province, after fleeing from the areas controlled by ISIS in Mosul.

The source said in a statement obtained by IraqiNews.com, “50 youths fled from the city of Mosul, which is controlled by ISIS, and resorted to the Peshmerga forces that were stationed in al-Khazer axis north of the province.”

The source, who requested anonymity, added, “The fugitives managed to escape from Mosul because ISIS tightened the noose on them.”

ISIS destroys antiquities in Ninevah

[ARA News] ERBIL – Extremists of the Islamic State (ISIS) on Wednesday destroyed an ancient temple in Iraq’s northwestern Nineveh province.

The radical group published a footage showing the destruction of the Nabu temple in the historical city of Nimrud of Nineveh province.

In a new propaganda video, ISIS considered the ancient temple of Nabu as a “symbol of apostasy”, urging its jihadis to destroy any such temple “that have been previously used by the enemies of Allah”.

Nabu, originally a Babylonian deity, was the god of wisdom at the time of the Assyrian kingdom in the 1st millennium BC.

“The Nabu temple was one of the most renowned archeological sites in Nineveh, before the ISIS jihadis destroy it,” head of Nineveh media office Raafat al-Zarari told ARA News.

“This barbaric group is trying to eliminate the historical and cultural identity of Nineveh province through destroying such archeological sites,” al-Zarari said.

Last April, ISIS militants demolished the Gate of God [Eia] which dates back to the 7th century BC, the time of the Assyrian king Sennacherib.

Speaking to ARA News in Mosul, media activist Zuheir Mousilly said that since its control over the city of Mosul in 2014, ISIS have destroyed much of Iraqi historic sites and monuments, including the Assyrian city of Nimrud, the Winged Bulls, and the Mosul National Museum, after stealing the removable pieces for smuggling.

The expert on the Iraqi Antiquities Affairs Yasser Hatami condemned the destruction of the historic monuments, blaming Iraqi authorities for the inability to protect Nineveh archaeological sites.

“ISIS views historic shrines and temples they destroy as sacrilegious and a return to paganism,” Syrian antiquities chief Abdul Maamoun Abdulkarim told ARA News in an earlier report.

Last year, ISIS extremists bombed the renowned Yezidi ancient minaret of the Shingal district (120 km west of the city of Mosul), in northern Iraq.

In April 2015, the terror group blew up the church of Virgin Mary in the Assyrian village of Tel Nasri near the town of Tel Temir (50 km west of Hasakah) in northeastern Syria.

Also, the radical group blew up two monuments in the ancient city of Palmyra in central Syria in June, 2015, according to local sources.

"Cigarettes may cause such discomfort to others that you'll be stood in front of an anti-aircraft gun."

Syrian rebels cut ISIS MSR near Manbij
[ARA News] MANBIJ – The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) on Wednesday continued to advance against the Islamic State (ISIS) and cut off the key supply route of Jarablus from the north, almost completely isolating ISIS in Manbij.

“SDF forces continue rapid advance on Manbij and have now cut the supply road to Jarabulus from the north. ISIL [ISIS] increasingly isolated,” US anti-ISIS envoy Brett McGurk said on Wednesday.

The official added that the ISIS attack on Marea and Azaz in the northern countryside of Aleppo have collapsed after the Manbij offensive, and increased support to opposition rebels on the Marea line.

“ISIL terrorists facing pressure on multiple fronts collapse on Marea line overnight. Supply line from Marea to Azaz reopened,” he added.

Christopher Garver, spokesperson for the US-led coalition, said on Wednesday that the the SDF campaign included reopening the Euphrates River Bridge near Manbij to provide humanitarian supplies and to push the attack on ISIS.

“The goal is to keep the enemy under pressure by making Daesh [ISIS] fight in many places at once. We’re keeping that pressure on,” he said.

The Kurdish-led SDF forces have almost cleared out every village near Manbij and encircled Manbij over the part few days. It is expected that the battle for inside the city of Manbij will soon start.

Syrian rebels commence assault on Manbij
MANBIJ – Under heavy shelling by the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), hundreds of militants from the Islamic State (ISIS) have evacuated their headquarters in the city of Manbij in the northern countryside of Aleppo province, military sources reported on Wednesday.

The Western-backed SDF troops closed most of the roads leading to Manbij after taking over dozens of villages to the north, east and south of Manbij city.

The only route that ISIS militants could use to escape was the western exit towards Aleppo.

The ISIS evacuation movement started on Tuesday, when dozens of ISIS vehicles were seen exiting the city through the western suburb of Manbij towards Aleppo.

“Those were most likely defectors who escaped the fighting fronts in the south and east of the city. Also, a number of Sharia officials are believed to have escaped Manbij under the ongoing offensive by the SDF against ISIS there,” media activist Alwan Halabi told ARA News.

The SDF-led Manbij Military Council reportedly broke into several ISIS security centres in Manbij city on Wednesday, and engaged in clashes with ISIS militants.

“The clashes have eventually reached the city itself after more than a week of fighting ISIS in the countryside of Manbij,” SDF officer Habun Osman told ARA News. “A large number of ISIS terrorists have already escaped the city, using the western exit. This means that the collapse of the group in Manbij is very near.”

“We, the SDF, will soon announce the full liberation of Manbij from ISIS,” the Kurdish official said, adding that the US-led coalition’s air forces have played a key role in enabling the SDF fighters to advance on the ground.

Also, the Syrian Democratic Forces have facilitated the evacuation of nearly 200,000 civilians from Manbij and its surroundings.

“After retaking key areas near Manbij, such as Al-Qaraa, Muhtaraq and Buzkej, the SDF troops were able to help more than 200,000 civilians evacuate the area and head to more stable towns. This was to prevent the terror group from using the people as human shields in the ongoing clashes,” a spokesman for the SDF told ARA News.

Manbij constitutes a key pocket of 98-kilometers for ISIS militants. “As to why the Manbij pocket is important, it represents a major border crossing point where foreign fighters can cross into Syria from Turkey,” US-led coalition spokesman Colonel Christopher Garver told ARA News.

Arabia
Soddies hand over 52 Houthi child prisoners
[Saudi Gazette] The Saudi-led Arab Coalition Command said on Tuesday that it has handed over 52 children to the legitimate government in Yemen after they were caught fighting with the Houthi militias along the border with Saudi Arabia . The children were captured while planting land mines, the coalition said in a statement carried by the Saudi Press Agency.

The process of repatriation was coordinated with international organizations including the Red Cross and UNICEF, the statement said. They were arrested during military operations on the border while the children, carrying weapons, were involved in mine-laying operations, the command said.

“Appropriate actions have been taken by transferring them to shelters, according to their legal age, and the application of preventive measures to protect children and provide them with the appropriate conditions. The involvement of children in the bloody events and minefields is considered as an inhuman act and is contrary to all international norms and laws,” the statement added.

On his part, Yemeni Foreign Minister Abdel-Malek Al-Mekhlafi, who heads the legitimate government’s peace negotiating team, said the children were aged between 8 and 17 years and their release showed the government and its Saudi-led Coalition ally reject the Houthi crime of using children in war.

“They (child prisoners) will be freed in addition to those who had been freed in Marib,” Mekhlafi said on his Twitter account.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Syrian rebels open MSR near Aleppo
Syrian rebel forces broke through an ISIS siege around an opposition-held town in northwestern Syria on Wednesday, reopening their main road to the Turkish border, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

According to an opposition source and a monitoring group, ISIS fighters withdrew from frontlines with Syrian rebel forces north of Aleppo on Wednesday as the rebel groups besieged in the town of Marea had launched a counter attack against ISIS.

The sudden withdrawal from villages around the rebel-held town of Marea points to the pressure ISIS is feeling from offensives being waged by other enemies further east, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitoring group said.

ISIS had managed to besiege the rebel-held town of Marea in a significant advance late last month, stranding thousands of civilians there and prompting a U.S.-led coalition to air drop weapons to rebels, rebel sources said.

Rebel fighters in Marea broke the siege on Wednesday when they captured the village of Kafr Kalbin on the road linking Marea with Azaz, 20 km (12 miles) to the northwest at the border with Turkey. The advance was preceded by a rebel statement saying they were uniting their ranks.

“It seems they (ISIS) can’t keep several fronts open at the same time. It is a strategic area, they were on the verge of entering Azaz,” Observatory Director Rami Abdulrahman said. The opposition source said ISIS had quickly pulled back from the area, and Free Syrian Army factions had filled the void.

FSA rebels fighting Islamic State north of Aleppo have received military assistance from states opposed to President Bashar al-Assad.

Their battle with ISIS is separate to one being waged further east by a U.S.-backed group, the Syria Democratic Forces, which includes the Kurdish YPG militia.

Assad’s vow to reconquer Syria ‘discouraging’
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The United States said Tuesday that Bashir al-Assad’s vow to recapture "every inch" of Syria was discouraging and urged Russia and Iran to pressure their ally into respecting a ceasefire.

The Syrian leader made the threat in his first address to a newly-installed parliament in Damascus, calling into question his commitment to a UN-led grinding of the peace processor and a truce between government and opposition forces.

"We have no choice but victory," he said, to applause from a parliament elected under civil war conditions in a vote that Washington and Assad’s other international critics have not recognized as legitimate.

US State Department front man Mark Toner said the belligerent speech was unsurprising and dubbed it "vintage Assad," adding that Washington would call on Russia, its co-chair of the International Syria Support Group (ISSG), to restrain its ally.

Car bomb targets Turkish police station on Syria border
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] A cop shoppe at a town near the border with Syria has been hit by a boom-mobile on Wednesday, The Sick Man of Europe Turkey

's state-run news agency
...and if you can't believe the state-run news agency who can you believe?...
said, killing three people and wounding 30.

The Anadolu Agency said several ambulances have been sent to the scene of the blast in the town of Midyat, in southern Mardin province.

Television images from the scene showed thick smoke rising from the site of the attack, which seemed to have destroyed the facade of a building

The attack comes a day after a boom-mobile hit a police vehicle in Istanbul, killing 11 people during the morning rush hour.

Turkey has been hit by a series of attack in the past year. Rebels of the Kurdistan Workers' Party, or PKK, have targeted police and military personnel since July, when a fragile grinding of the peace processor between the rebels and the government collapsed. ISIS has also been blamed for a series of deadly bombings in Turkey, which is part of the US-led coalition against ISIS.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
FBI: Records from Clinton's email server being held as 'evidence'
[Washington Examiner] FBI agents have confirmed that they recovered records from Hillary Clinton's private server and other electronic devices, but won't reveal any details about those records because that information is being treated as "evidence" in a "pending investigation."

"[A]ll of the materials retrieved from any electronic equipment obtained from former Secretary Clinton for the investigation are evidence, potential evidence, or information that has not yet been assessed for evidentiary value," the FBI said in documents filed with a federal court Monday.

While media reports last year suggested the law enforcement agency had some success pulling potentially deleted emails off Clinton's private server, which it seized in August, the FBI had previously shied away from confirming the existence of recovered records. It also hadn't revealed any details about what was being considered "evidence" in its high-profile investigation.

"Due to the sensitive nature of the investigation, the number of FBI personnel involved in and having knowledge of the pending investigation is limited," the FBI said in the filings.

The FBI argued that disclosing even the number of records it has pulled off Clinton's server, thumb drive or other unnamed devices "could reasonably lead to the public identification and compromising of potential witnesses, as well as defensive actions to conceal activities, elude detection, and/or suppress or fabricate evidence."

The details were revealed through filings in a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit filed by Vice News against the FBI in search of records related to its investigation of Clinton's private email use.

While the FBI asked a federal judge to allow it to keep information about its probe secret, including a pair of emails sent between FBI and State Department officials, the law enforcement agency did reveal its investigation is focused on a "security referral made for counterintelligence purposes" by the inspector general of the intelligence community.

Four Malaysian Abu Sayyaf hostages released
[Reuters] Four Malaysian sailors kidnapped by Filipino gunmen in April were freed on the southern Philippine island of Jolo on Wednesday. The sailors, part of a tugboat crew traveling between Malaysia and the Philippines, were seized by members of the Abu Sayyaf off the eastern Malaysian state of Sabah.

It is not clear if any ransom had been paid. The Philippines rarely publicizes such payments, but it is widely believed captives are not released without them.

Philippine military spokesman Filemon Tan said the Malaysians were released on Jolo and then sent by speedboat to Sabah. He said, "We have yet to confirm whether ransom money was paid in exchange for the safe release of the victims," adding that the kidnapping was led by Abu Sayyaf leader Madjan Sahidjuan, also known as Apuh Mike.

The Grand Turk
Erdogan lifts lawmakers’ immunity
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
’s president has approved amendments to the constitution that pave the way for the trials of some 138 politicians, including several pro-Kurdish politicians who face terror-related charges.

The state-run Anadolu Agency said Recep Tayyip Erdogan
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him...
on Tuesday ratified the changes which were put forward by the ruling party and finally approved by parliament last month after heated debates that devolved into outright fights.

The changes have been criticized by officials in the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
and Germany and condemned by Turkish opposition politicians. Lasts week, Turkey’s highest court rejected a petition by opposition politicians to strike down the legislation.

Erdogan has accused the pro-Kurdish People’s Democratic Party, or HDP, of being an arm of the outlawed Kurdish PKK rebel group.

The parliamentarians at risk of prosecution fall roughly into three categories: those who are accused of insulting the president, and those under investigation for corruption or other criminal offenses, and those who like HDP members are accused of supporting the PKK.

The Turkish state has been locked in renewed conflict with Kurdish fighters since last summer when a 2 ½-year truce with the Kurdistan Workers’ Party, or PKK, collapsed. Kurdish rebels have set up trenches, barricades and explosives to keep the authorities out of areas where they want autonomy.

The HDP, which backs Kurdish and other minority rights, denies accusations that it is the political front of the PKK. The party has urged the government to end security operations in the southeast and to resume peace efforts.

Turkey and its Western allies consider the PKK, which has waged a decades-long insurgency against the Turkish state, a terrorist group.

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
Kazakh president says deadly attacks organized 'from abroad'
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Kazakhstan’s President Nursultan Nazarbayev
...has served as the President of Kazakhstan since the Fall of the Soviet Union and the nation's independence in 1991. Contrary to commonly held belief, there is a difference between Kazakhs and Cossacks: Kazakhs have mustaches. Or maybe it's the other way around...
said Wednesday that the perpetrators of deadly attacks in a city in the country's oil belt were acting on instructions "from abroad."

Gunmen went on the rampage in the northwestern city of Aktobe near the Russian border on Sunday, killing three civilians at two gun stores before trying to storm a military base with a hijacked bus, killing three soldiers.

In a statement on the violence Nazarbayev called the attackers "followers of radical pseudo-religious groups" adding that the gunnies had operated on "instructions received from abroad."

Nazarbayev also appeared to make a link between recent rallies protesting the government’s proposed land policy changes and the attacks that have led to heightened security measures across the vast country.

Thirteen suspects have been killed in police anti-terror raids since the attacks.

"We all know that the so-called "color revolutions" have different methods and begin with contrived rallies, murder, and attempts to seize power," Nazarbayev said in a statement published on the presidential website.

"These symptoms have also manifested themselves in our country," the 75-year-old autocrat added, noting that Thursday would be a day of national mourning in respect of the victims of the attacks.

Earlier on Wednesday, he held a televised meeting with the KNB National Security Committee chief in which he demanded that "every last criminal must be apprehended. In the case of armed resistance, killed."

"All of them should (receive) the strictest punishment," Nazarbayev ordered KNB head Vladimir Zhumakanov.

Zhumakanov informed Nazarbayev of reports gunnies had opened fire on guards at a children’s summer camp in Aktobe Wednesday, a report swiftly denied by police.

The country’s information minister, Dauren Abayev later moved to dismiss the incident, saying the "sounds (created by) a faulty automobile" had been mistaken for gunfire.

Police said Wednesday they had detained one more suspect in the weekend attacks and that six suspects were still on the loose. For much of its independence Kazakhstan was able to avoid the kind of political tumult seen in other countries in ex-Soviet Central Asia.

BDS loses in Europe and America
Israel boycott motions scrapped in 4 Spanish cities

[IsraelTimes] Reversals come amid an unprecedented judicial crackdown against resolutions supporting the BDS movement

Four Spanish municipalities dropped their former policy of support for boycotts of the Jewish state, following legal action by supporters of Israel.

Occurring amid an unprecedented judicial crackdown in Spain against the phenomenon, three of the four reversals last month came following court-issued injunctions that suspended municipal motions passed in support of a boycott, ACOM, a Madrid-based pro-Israel group, wrote in a statement last week. The fourth municipality, Sant Sadurnì d’Anoià, a town of 12,000 residents in Catalonia, voided its own motion in support of the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions, or BDS, movement following ACOM’s threat to sue.

Two of the rulings came on May 31, when the 3rd and 4th Administrative Courts of Barcelona nullified the BDS policies of the Catalan cities of Sant Adria de Besòs and Sant Quirze del Vallès, respectively, which have a combined population of approximately 55,000.

Earlier last month, an administrative court in Oviedo ruled that a motion in support of the BDS movement passed in January by the City Council of Langreo in Spain’s north was discriminatory and must be scrapped.

Also in May, the Ministerio Fiscal, an advisory judicial authority charged with guaranteeing equality in the judiciary, recommended scrapping the BDS motion passed in the northern municipality of Gijon for declaring itself "a space free of Israeli apartheid." The Ministerio, which is a constitutional court, cited anti-discrimination laws in its ruling on Gijon.

The anti-BDS rulings are a recent development in Spain, which has for many years been seen as a hub of anti-Israeli lobbying in Europe.

In parallel to these rulings, motions proposing to adopt BDS policies have failed in five Spanish municipalities in recent months. Another three municipalities nonetheless passed BDS motions -- ACOM has vowed to defeat them in court.

Spain’s government has repeatedly expressed its opposition to BDS, which is illegal in neighboring La Belle France because it is deemed discriminatory. Britannia’s ruling party is formulating similar legislation, officials said earlier this year.

Spain has recently taken actions that angered BDS promoters, including a January offer of $107,000 in compensation for damages caused to an Israeli West Bank university due to its exclusion from a scientific competition for political reasons.

Unlike the parliaments of Britannia, La Belle France and other European countries, which have pledged unconditional support for Paleostinian statehood, Spain’s Congress in 2014 passed a nonbinding motion saying it would only support a Paleostinian state reached by a peace agreement through talks with Israel ‐ language that was hailed as a diplomatic victory for Israel and its supporters.

American Anthropological Association rejects Israel boycott

[IsraelTimes] By a narrow margin, the American Anthropological Association votes against a measure to boycott Israeli academia.

Participation in the vote is the largest in AAA history, according to its website, encompassing 51 percent of its members, 2,423 of whom oppose the bid and 2,384 of whom support it.

#1  I came across this in The Times of Israel, written shortly before the American Anthropological Association vote, which I find heartening:

Despite important differences in outlook and methods, these organizations – the Academic Engagement Network and the Academic Council for Israel, as examples — have made important progress mobilizing faculty against BDS. The evidence is in successful faculty letter writing and mobilization campaigns on several campuses in response to BDS campaigns in 2015-16, including Minnesota, Columbia, and University of Michigan-Dearborn, a large petition drive opposed to BDS with 1,100 signatures and growing, and hopefully a close victory or close contest in the current vote on boycott in the American Anthropological Association.

BDS gives off the impression that it is everywhere on the rise and winning. But it is not. During the past two years, according to statistics developed by the Israel on Campus Coalition, BDS has mounted 77 campaigns on American campuses, 44 in 2014-15 after the Gaza War, and 33, down 25%, in 2015-16. The fact is that BDS loses as much as or more than it wins. Of 33 campaigns during 2015-2016, 17 failed outright, or the resolutions were tabled or not put up to a vote. The year before, of 44 campaigns, 32 failed outright, or were tabled or did not come to fruition.

In the past two years, with 77 total tries, that is, BDS won only 22 outright successes. This is not an stellar batting average. And these successes resulted in no tangible changes in respective institutional policies. None whatsoever. No boycott, no divestment. BDS is primarily about symbolic politics and radical gestures, and about skillful manipulation of the media. BDS’s real purpose is to cumulatively infiltrate a politically loaded teaching onto campuses about Israel and the Middle East, and to make of Israel a pariah state in the minds of members of the current student generation and future leaders; it is not to impact institutional policies.

BDS is also being confronted in the faculty associations, where the tide may perhaps be turning. After successes in the American Studies Association, Women’s Studies Association, and several smaller ethnic studies associations, BDS initiatives have encountered significant opposition this year in the Modern Language Association, American Historical Association, International Studies Association, the Association of American Geographers, and others. Even in the American Anthropological Association, where BDS views are particularly strong, we expect a close membership vote on the matter of boycott.

Iraq
Spats among Iraqi forces delay Fallujah advance
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] After securing the southern edge of murderous Moslem-held Fallujah,
... the City of Mosques, which might have somthing to do with why it's not called Center of Prosperity or a really nice place to raise your kids...
seven battalions of Iraqi Special Forces units have been unable to advance for two days -- a delay that commanders say isn’t due to counterattacks or difficult terrain, but rather to disagreements about battlefield strategy among the disparate Iraqi forces fighting ISIS.

Unlike previous anti-ISIS operations, the fight for Fallujah involves an array of Iraqi security forces. A battle plan that was initially cast as an example of how those fighters can work together has instead revealed just how fractured Iraq’s security forces are.

"I wouldn’t say the different forces in the Fallujah operation are cooperating: They’ve just divided up the battlefield," said Patrick Martin, an Iraq analyst with the Institute for the Study of War, a think tank based in Washington.

Since ISIS overran djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
in the summer of 2014, two groups have come to dominate the fight against the murderous Moslem group in Iraq: The country’s elite counterterrorism special forces and the government-sanctioned, largely Shiite militias known as the Popular Mobilization Forces.

Once highly centralized under former Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki
... Prime Minister of Iraq and the secretary-general of the Islamic Dawa Party. Maliki imposed order on Basra wen the Shiites were going nuts, but has proven incapable of dealing with al-Qaeda's Sunni insurgency. Reelected to his third term in 2014...
, Iraq’s security forces have splintered under the weight of the political and security crises that were unleashed by the ISIS blitz across Iraq two years ago.

Iraq’s military largely disintegrated in the face of that assault, and in the days that followed, a number of largely Shiite militia groups took up arms against ISIS and stopped their advance north of Baghdad.

While rebuilding Iraq’s military has been a slow process with mixed results, Iraq’s Shiite militias have quickly grown in strength. More powerful than the country’s own military, the militia fighters were formally incorporated into the Iraqi government force under command of the prime minister. But most maintain a large degree of autonomy under leaders with greater political and military clout than the increasingly embattled prime minister, Haider al-Abadi.

Iraq
Iraq’s Shia Militias Accused of Atrocities
The stalled battle to retake the Iraqi city of Fallujah from ISIS has given way to another grim development: accusations of human rights abuses against fleeing refugees by pro-Iraqi government forces.

The largely Shia militia group officially known as Hashd al-Shaabi or Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF), headed by Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, a U.S.-designated terrorist has, according to the United Nations, committed atrocities against Sunnis in two newly liberated areas of Saqlawiyah and Al-Karmah, are just kilometers from Fallujah city.

Two sources in Saqlawiyah, who asked to remain anonymous due to fear of their lives, have told The Daily Beast that hundreds of civilian residents of Saqlawiyah and Karma have been heavily tortured by the PMF. Five dead bodies have been uncovered, but there are an additional 200 to 300 civilians that have been taken by the PMF; their fates are unknown.

Sheikh Raad Salman, of the Anbar-based Sunni Dulaim tribe, one of Iraq’s largest, told The Daily Beast that the “300 civilians have been buried alive” by the PMF and “700 more people have been severely tortured.”

Some say number of the victims is much higher. Hamid Mutlag, a Sunni MP and deputy head of defense committee in the parliament, told The Daily Beast “more than 800 residents of a village in Saqlawiyah have been taken by the Hashd al-Shaabi and there are others that have been killed and tortured.”

Atrocities in Fallujah have been expected as PMF leaders have been threatening to “cut the head of the snake” and accusing residents of having been cooperative with the Islamic State.

Saadoon al-Shalan, the mayor of Fallujah, said that Shia militias have sustained “huge losses” in the battle against ISIS and have lashed out at fleeing civilians. But the PMF leadership has nevertheless given “reassurances that they will not enter Fallujah and remain in the periphery.”

Reassurances are not enough in Iraq. Sectarian hatred is now so entrenched in light of the fact that the militias leading the operations in Saqlawiyah and Karma are the Badr Organization, Kata'ib Hezbollah (or the Brigades of the Party of God) and Asa'ib Ahl al-Haq the (League of the Righteous). All are directly backed by Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Corps and are notorious among the Sunni minority population for carrying out extrajudicial killings, torture and ethnic cleansing.

One source, who also asked to remain anonymous, has told The Daily Beast that the PMF are, in fact, planning to infiltrate into Fallujah city in the uniforms belonging to Iraqi Federal Police, a state security arm under the purview of the Interior Ministry, which is controlled by the Badr Organization.

The premier issued the warning a day after four alleged members of an outlawed myrmidon outfit were killed in "shootouts" with the law enforcers in the last two days and in the backdrop of a string of assassination'>assassinations, especially those of non-Moslem and non-Sunni people.

On Sunday, Mahmuda Khanam Mitu, wife of newly-promoted Superintendent of Police Babul Akter, was stabbed and rubbed out by bike-riding assailants in the port city of Chittagong. Babul is a popular officer lauded for his strong
lead to uproot militancy in the region.

Replying to a query of a ruling party politician, Hasina said that all the secret killings were conducted in a similar manner. "They [militants] were killing people in mosques, temples, pagodas, and teachers of universities; and now they have killed a family member of a police officer."

She assured that exemplary punishment would be ensured for the culprits.

Pointing at the opposition parties, the premier alleged that those who had killed and burnt people in 2013 and 2014 "have taken the path of ’secret killings’ after they failed to foil the last national elections."

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
4 killed in Tel Aviv terror attack; 2 arrested
[CNN] Four people were killed Wednesday night when gunnies shot up a popular market complex in Tel Aviv, Israeli authorities said.

Two Paleostinian suspects were captured, Israeli police front man Micky Rosenfeld said, with one shot and the second tossed in the clink
... anything you say can and will be used against you, whether you say it or not...
at the scene. The attackers dressed as Hasidic Jews, according to a law enforcement source briefed by Israeli officials.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called the killings "a savage crime, murder in the heart of Tel Aviv."

"We will take the necessary steps to attack the attackers and defend those who need to be defended," he said.

The dead are Israelis, Rosenfeld said on Twitter.

Five people were maimed, said Dr. Gil Fire, deputy director of Ichilov Hospital. The injured suspect also is at the hospital.

Information about a motive wasn't immediately available. No intelligence suggested an attack was imminent, Rosenfeld said.

Surveillance footage from a cafe near the shooting scene showed a scene of chaos, as panicked customers scrambled and rushed to escape.

The shooting occurred about 9 p.m. local time at Sarona Market, a mixed-use development with a food hall, upscale retail, playgrounds, green space and residences on a central highway. CNN's Elizabeth Cohen described it as hip and trendy destination that's popular among tourists and locals.

The area was cleared while officers searched for explosives, Rosenfeld said, adding that the situation had come under control.

The market is across the street from Israel's Defense Ministry and main army headquarters.

U.S. State Department deputy front man Mark Toner issued a statement condemning "today's horrific terrorist attack in Tel Aviv in the strongest possible terms."

"We extend our deepest condolences to the families of those killed and our hopes for a quick recovery for those maimed," he said. "These cowardly attacks against innocent civilians can never be justified. We are in touch with Israeli authorities to express our support and concern."
The Jerusalem Post adds:
The two attackers were relatives from Yata in the South Hebron Hills and were said to be in their twenties. The Hebron area is a known Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, stronghold.
And The Times of Israel waxes dramatic:
A little after 9:00 p.m., the two men -- cousins, according to police; brothers, according to Paleostinian media reports -- were seated at an outdoor table in Max Brenner’s, a fashionable international restaurant chain known for its rich chocolate desserts, in Tel Aviv’s upscale Sarona Market.

The young Paleostinian men wore black suits, white shirts and black ties. They looked "like lawyers," Yusef Jabbarin, a bartender at the restaurant, told journalists after the attack. Some initial reports claimed the two had dressed up as ultra-Orthodox Jews, but Jabbarin put that rumor to bed.

"One of the waitresses is also Arab. She said, ’They’re Arab. They look attractive. I’ll take their orders,’ said Jabbarin, who is originally from the Arab city of Umm al-Fahm. "I told her, they’re from the West Bank. You can see from how they are dressed."

Barely five minutes after he made that claim -- and hours after the attack -- police confirmed what Jabbarin had realized the moment he saw the two gunnies. They two men were from Yatta, a small village in the hills near Hebron in the West Bank, police said.

Approximately 15 minutes after they walked in, the two men took out Carl Gustav-style submachine guns
...a popular design made in machine shops across the West Bank. In Gaza they favour Kalashnikovs, for some reason...
and indiscriminately shot up the restaurant’s patrons.

There are 2.5 - 3 millions of them. And they all have Inalienable Human Rights. In particular, tens of thousands have entry permits to Israel - because it's an Inalienable Human Right.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Syria reports IAF attack
[Ynet] Syrian newspaper claims Israel launched Arclight airstrike against Hezbollah targets; Lebanese army also discovers surveillance device on mountain; unclear whether it was planted by Israel or not.

The Syrian website ’Zaman Al Wasl,’ which identifies with the opposition forces, quoted a military official from the Syrian regime who claimed that the Israel Air Force had carried out an Arclight airstrike against military targets close to a village 13 kilometers north of Homs.

According to the claims, the attack took place two days ago after midnight during which the IAF took out Hezbollah weapons caches in areas also containing antennas for Syrian radar systems, in addition to an air defense battalion that secures the area. The same official also claimed that the attack only inflicted damage on the caches and not on the other facilities. He said that kabooms could be heard and that the fire could be seen from afar. The Syrian report further stated that in March 2015, the same stockpiles were attacked by Israel

Ynet News commentator and analyst, Ron Ben-Yishai posits that if such an attack did, indeed, take place, it will have been on Hezbollah targets as claimed by the Syrian report. In addition, reports from Syria pertaining to Israel are often exaggerated even when there is only a grain of truth to the story. This notwithstanding, if the reports are credible, the attacks would be the first to have taken place since Avigdor Lieberman replaced Moshe Ya’alon as defense minister.

In addition to the Syrian reports, the Lebanese newspaper El-Nashra reported that a listening device was discovered by Lebanese security forces on Tuesday evening which was disguised as a rock on a mountain. The same report claimed that Lebanese military engineers were destroying the device. Nevertheless, the claim made no specific mention that the device was Israeli.

The Lebanese army later published an official statement on the matter claiming that it had found spying and surveillance equipment which was connected to a speaker also hidden on the rocks. Moreover, they said that they had found three bags nearby.

In December 2015, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed that Israeli military forces were operating in some capacity in Syria: "We are operating in Syria periodically in order to prevent the country from becoming a front against Israel. We are taking action against another terror front which Iran is attempting to build in the Golan to prevent the transfer of deadly weapons from Syria to Leb. We will continue to do this," said Netanyahu.

Police said that a detained JMB member had mentioned about Kawser’s involvement in the November 26 attack while giving confessional statement before a court.

Earlier, two people named Mohsin and Yasin from Kawser’s village were enjugged

Police claimed that they had ambushed under Jamtoli bridge in Atmul area of Shibganj around 3:30am on information that a gang of holy warriors would pass the area.

"At one point, several persons were crossing the bridge. They threw hand bombs and also opened fire on the law enforcers when asked to stop. Ex-Shibir man held over Mitu murder
[Dhaka Tribune] Police have tossed in the slammer
I ain't sayin' nuttin' widdout me mout'piece!
a former Shibir activist in connection with the gruesome killing of Superintendent of Police (SP) Babul Akter’s wife Mahmuda Khanam Mitu.

Chittagong Metropolitan Police’s (CMP) Additional Commissioner (Crime and Operation) Debdas Bhattachariya told news hounds yesterday that the suspect was Abu Nosor Gunnu, 40, son of late Mofazzel Hossen. He was arrested from Farhadabad area of Hathazari upazila yesterday.

Additional Commissioner Debdas said: "Gunnu was a former Shibir activist and also accused in an abduction and murder case filed with Sitakunda cop shoppe."

"We have learned that Gunnu went to Middle Eastern countries on several occasions. At first he was involved with Shibir and later he got mixed up in crimes. He used to look after a shrine in the Farhadabad area," said Debdas.

Gunnu returned home from Middle East five-six years ago and started working at a local shrine.

Police will produce Gonnu in court in the murder case seeking time for interrogation, the commissioner said.

Mahmuda Khanam Mitu, wife of SP Babul Akter, was stabbed and shot to death by three unidentified cycle of violence-riding assailants in front of her son Akter Mahmud Maheer in Chittagong city’s GEC area near her home last Sunday.

Microbus found

CMP Commissioner Iqbal Bahar told Dhaka Tribune over phone around 7:52pm that a black microbus that was seen at the scene of the crime had been seized in Chittagong city yesterday evening.

The microbus was seen in CCTV footages leaving the scene of the crime following the cycle of violence and is believed to be a backup force for the killers.

The CMP chief did not disclose any detailed information about the seizure, saying: "Details will be revealed tomorrow (today) at CMP headquarters."

Investigators have confirmed that several other people apart from the three assailants took part in the premeditated killing operation.

The team likely collected detailed information about the target and scouted CCTV positions.

Responding to a question about the possible connection between the recent assassination'>assassinations across the country and Mitu’s murder, Debdas said: "Mitu’s murder is also a assassination'>assassination. But there are some similarities and dissimilarities. Police are trying to unearth the mystery and arrest the killers."

’Motorcycle stolen last month’

The cycle of violence used in the crime was stolen from its last owner’s home in Boalkhali upazila in Chittagong last month, police said.

Police detained the owner Shahidullah on Tuesday.

"The cycle of violence has exchanged hands several times and the police are quizzing its last owner," a senior police official said.

It was stolen from Shahidullah’s home in Boalkhali upazila in May 8, the official added.

Shahidullah, who is a cook by profession, is still detained.

Earlier police found that the vehicle was registered to one Delwar Hossain of Jamalkhan, Chittagong city and detained the man. He told police he had sold it off in 2011.

Mitu’s mobile still missing

The additional commissioner said the victim’s mobile phone was yet to be found, but police have tracked its last location before it was switched off.

"The last call made from Mitu’s mobile was from the same place where the cycle of violence was found, in city’s Badurtala area," said Debdas.

Reports published in the media have claimed that the victim was out of her home sometime before scheduled time because of a text she received from her son’s school. The phone was not found on her person or at home.

Police have also collected information from the mobile phone operator but there was no record of an SMS like that, said Debdas.

"There seems to be no authenticity in this matter," he added.

Taking the militancy issue into consideration as Babul has a number of successful anti-militancy drives, police are investigating and working their best to identify and arrest the perpetrators, said Debdas.

Following the murder, SP Babul Akter filed a case accusing three unknown and their cohorts with Panchlaish cop shoppe.

DB police have been investigating the sensitive murder case while teams of RAB, Police, PBI and CID are jointly working on it, said police.
