[AnNahar] Nigeria's government on Wednesday said another Chibok girl was free, having beat feet from Boko Haram

Britain
British PM Says Up to Trump who He Shares Intelligence with
[AnNahar] British Prime Minister Theresa May said Wednesday that it was up to U.S. President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
to decide what intelligence he shared, after reports he divulged top-secret data to the Russians.

"Decisions about what President Trump discusses with anybody that he has in the White House is a matter for President Trump," May told a presser in London.

"We continue to work with the United States and we continue to share intelligence with the United States, as we do with others around the world."

She said the British relationship with the U.S. "is the most important defense and security relationship that we have around the world."

"We have confidence in that relationship between us and the United States, that it helps to keep us all safer."

#2  Doesn't Brown have this turned around?
Posted by: JohnQC || 05/18/2017 10:47 Comments || Top||

#3  Yeah, governor. Smart people figure out that the best way to "make it" is to move to Texas.

Folks, this leaves me very conflicted. Look, California is NOT Detroit. For one thing, it doesn't freeze in the winter and the summers are not hot and humid. In fact, the weather here is better that anywhere else in the country. Really, no exaggeration, it is.

That said, there is more to a good quality of life than a constant temperature of 70 degrees.

But then, I can afford to live here even with Brown and his taxes. What bothers me the most is that I don't like being ripped off even if I can afford it. It's the principle. So do I leave a nice home in a nice neighborhood with comfortable weather that is unparalleled anywhere else in the country just because of the principle? I dunno.

I can certainly understand why people want to leave. I have a brother and a brother-in-law who can't wait to retire and move out of the state. When that happens they won't be paying Brown's taxes anymore. They can afford to pay but Brown offends them. Brown doesn't seem to understand that. There are a lot of dumbasses who don't understand. I will miss my brother and my smart brother-in-law. I'm afraid I'll be stuck with a lot of dumbasses. The more smart people who leave, the more dumbass politicians like Brown will get elected.

I dunno, maybe North Carolina...or South Carolina...hot humid summers, snow in the winters...I dunno.

#13  And there is NASCAR at Bristol Motor Speedway.

For whatever reason, I cannot stand short-track racing. My home state of New Hampshire has the most boring track at Loudon (a lot of 1 mile tracks aren't much better), which explains why they're dropping the fall race (lost to Las Vegas) in a few years.

They should add two more road courses in order to try and stem the fan losses. Add Mid-Ohio or Road America, but definitely add Gilles Villenuve in Montreal _ I think I like it better than Watkins Glen, site of Marcos Ambrose's only Sprint Cup win.

I cannot stand this 'stage race' bullshit - I turned off Daytona as the first one approached and I could barely watch Talladega, probably because my decision to drink early made it more palatable. I'm so close to boycotting the sport over that crap, but they keep pulling me back in!

No, I'm not trying to hijack this thread - why do you ask?

Two Abu Sayyaf rebels slain in Sulu clash
[Sun Star] Two Abu Sayyaf militants died in a firefight as military operations continue against insurgents in the province of Sulu.

Joint Task force Sulu commander Cirilito Sobejana said the clash took place Wednesday morning in the village of Sandah, Patikul, Sulu. He said the soldiers were on combat operation when they clashed with a group of 15 Abu Sayyaf rebels. Sobejana said the gun battle lasted for about 15 minutes and resulted in the death of two insurgents, with no casualties on the government side.

Military spokesperson Jo-ann Petinglay said the deaths bring to 81 the number of Abu Sayyaf militants slain since the operation started last January. She said that 50 rebels have surrendered, 18 have been arrested and 70 high powered firearms were seized from the Abu Sayyaf.

Islamic teachers, ex-rebels to be eyed closely in Thai south
[Bangkok Post] Islamic teachers and defecting rebels in the far South are being more closely screened as authorities suspect one of them was involved in the department store bombing that wounded 61 people in Pattani province last week.

Jamnan Mueandam, who serves on the government's high-level committee on southern solutions, said the Education Ministry had been instructed to carefully screen Islamic teachers because one of them was suspected of involvement in the car bombing of the Big C mall on May 9. He said, "Islamic teachers have been screened to an extent, but authorities may not know their mindsets. From now on they will be more tightly screened. This must be discussed with representatives of religious schools and provincial Islamic committees."

The committee also ordered the southern outpost of the Internal Security Operations Command to repeatedly interview defecting southern rebels, for the same reason.

Committee member Gen Chamlong Khunsong said a defector was suspected in the car bombing. "The person in question did not attend a full training course, only about half of it. He defected physically, but not spiritually. He did not attend the part concerning attitude adjustment and the creation of understanding," he said.

Gen Chamlong added, "Someone may attend the training wearing a disguise, but we believe that if they listen to the message in the attitudinal part they will understand and change their mindset."

Fourth Army commander Piyawat Nakwanit said 4,488 defectors would be re-examined. He said Suhaiming Sama-ae, who had defected in February, was a suspect in the bombing.

Kashmiri Muslim leader under house arrest ahead of talk
[AA.TR] The spiritual leader of Kashmire’s Moslem majority was sent to his room Wednesday as he was due to address a seminar.

Umar Farooq, who as the mirwaiz of Kashmire leads around 6 million Moslems, had been due to speak during a week of events to mark the deaths of people killed in the conflict between Kashmiri separatists and Indian security forces.

He told Anadolu Agency that it was the 42nd time he had been put under house arrest since fresh violence broke out last year.

"Every opportunity we have to talk to people, the Indian government scuttles it," he said.

"This was not even a public rally but an indoor seminar. But the Indian government is so scared because they know that any occasion can turn into an anti-India event."

Farooq, who is chairman of the Hurriyat forum, had been due to talk at a one-day seminar Resolution of Kashmire Issue -- Prelude to Peace, Guarantee to Stability.

Dershowitz: Come on, no one's going to indict Trump for obstruction
[Hot Air] "You should have been reading The Godfather," Alan Dershowitz told Chris Cuomo on CNN’s New Day, rather than law books on the nature of obstruction of justice. Cuomo later picks up the theme by asking whether Donald Trump attempted to give James Comey "the baccio di tutti bacci" to Jeffrey Toobin, who says that we won’t know until we actually see the memo and get testimony about the nature of the conversation. But as Newsmax notes, Dershowitz believes that the controversy is more likely to provide full employment for pundits and constitutional experts than produce an indictment:

"Under the unitary executive theory, the president has the right to tell the FBI what to do," Dershowitz told CNN’s "New Day" anchor Chris Cuomo, invoking a theory that holds the president possesses the power to control the entire executive branch of the government.

"Thomas Jefferson managed the trial against Aaron Burr. President [Lyndon B.] Johnson interacted with the Justice Department and FBI."

However, he continued, the fact that Trump is president cuts both ways, Dershowitz continued.

"He has the power to tell them what to do," said Dershowitz, but since the president also was the only person who could have fired Comey, it’s not clear if he obstructed justice if he suggested to Comey to "go soft" on former National Security Agency Director Michael Flynn, as Comey has suggested and written in a memo.

"This is a complex and difficult issue, which we will never reach," said Dershowitz.

One point Dershowitz fails to mention is that the president is immune from prosecution while in office. In the clip, he suggests that even if House Republicans are inclined to look toward impeachment, they’d want an independent prosecutor to produce a bill of charges on which they could rely. However, Ryan Goodman pointed out today at Politico that a special prosecutor might be inapplicable due to two findings on presidential immunity. And an attempt to get around it could be stopped by Trump:

#2  So a reporter from a newspaper that's maybe just slightly biased against Trump talks to a guy (whose name he can't tell us) who says that he saw a memo (which the reporter hasn't seen) in which Comey says that Trump said to go easy on Flynn?

That's a great law school exam question for the course on evidence. "List the ways in which this reporter's article is inadmissible as evidence" or for the trial practice course, "How would you cross-examine the reporter?"

(That's old law school -- new law school would be "If doing so would not put too much pressure on you, describe the ways in which the reporter, his source, Comey and Trump were all exercising their white privilege.")

South Korean President Moon Jae-in flags high risk of military clashes with North
[SCMP] South Korean President Moon Jae-in warned on Wednesday there was a "high possibility" of military festivities with North Korea as tensions mount over Pyongyang’s weapons ambitions.

Moon, who was sworn in last week, warned the North’s nuclear and rocket programmes were "advancing rapidly", days after Pyongyang launched what appeared to be its longest-range missile yet.

"I will never tolerate the North’s provocations and nuclear threats," he said on a visit to the defence ministry, urging the South’s military to adopt a "watertight defence posture".

"We are living in the reality where there is a high possibility of military festivities" along the disputed sea border off the Koreas’ west coast or along the heavily fortified land frontier that divides them, Moon said.

The president made his remarks after his country’s unification ministry suggested talks with the North should resume.

"Our most basic stance is that communication lines between South and North Korea should open," said Lee Duk-haeng, a front man for the ministry. "The unification ministry has considered options on this internally but nothing has been decided yet."

Economy
Anti-Trump Hysteria cripples the market and the economy.
[Breitbart] Stocks closed sharply down on Wednesday as political chaos in Washington, D.C. dominated headlines.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell nearly 373 points, or 1.78 percent. The S&P 500 fell 43.6 points, a decline of 1.82 percent. The Nasdaq Composite index fell 2.57 percent.

It was the worst day for U.S. stocks since September of 2016. The financial sector led the way down, suffering its worst day since last June. Big banks were some of the worst performing stocks of the day.

Stocks have rallied this year on hopes of tax cuts and regulatory reform. Many investors now worry that the Trump administration’s latest political troubles could delay or prevent the implementation of its agenda. Wednesday’s declines reversed all the gains the market had made in May.

The CBOE Volatility Index, known as the Vix, rose 39 percent Wednesday but still remains low compared with historically normal levels.

Bank of America’s shares fell by almost 6 percent. Several large regional banks also saw big declines. Analysts say falling interest rates are a drag on the bank stocks.

Kurdish forces just three kilometers from Raqqa as ISIS loses control of key highway
[ALMASDARNEWS] On Wednesday, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) scored a massive advance in an ISIS-held region directly east of Raqqa.

Amid a blitz US-backed offensive codenamed operation Euphrates Wrath (stage four), Kurdish units broke through a weak point in the jihadist defensive line on the outskirts of the picturesque provincial capital and liberates several villages from the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
Preluded by joint US and Kurdish shelling on the highly fortified ’Division 17th’ army base, the SDF launched a couple of diversionary attacks only to unleash the bulk of its seasoned fighters in a region little more than five kilometers east of Raqqa.

Over the past 48 hours, the YPG-led SDF have liberated the villages of Qaryat Abdallah, Dahr al-Abdul, Badr, Annadah, Tall Zaidan and Thoul Nail.

At midnight, festivities even erupted in Raqqat as Samra, an ISIS-held town only three kilometers from Raqqa city. Notably, represents the last town on the main road leading to Raqqa city’s eastern neighborhoods.

On a different axis, northwest of Raqqa, the SDF also imposed full control over the villages of al-Jaif and Mazraat al-Rasheed amid a massive ISIS collapse.

Heavy festivities continue as we speak with both sides inflicting dozens of casualties on the other.

Two Maoist militants surrender in Mindanao
[SunStar] Extreme hardship and false promises have pushed two New People's Army guerillas to surrender to the Philippine military in the province of Zamboanga del Sur.

Lieutenant Colonel Virgilio Hamos identified them as Rey Anthony Dungog, alias "Ka Mark," and Alvin Ladra Calibo, alias Ka Jason. Both belonged to the Main Regional Guerrilla Unit of the NPA's Western Mindanao Regional Party Committee.

Dungog and Calibo surrendered on Tuesday to troops in Guipos, Zamboanga del Sur. Hamos said they cited extreme hardship, hunger and unfulfilled promises as among reasons why they decided to leave the Maoist militants and surrender. He said they joined the NPA after being told that they would receive P10,000 monthly, which turned out to be a false promise.

Hamos said they will facilitate the enrollment of the two ex-rebels to the government's Comprehensive Local Integration Program. He said each of them will receive livelihood training and cash assistance to help them reintegrate to the mainstream of the society once their application will be approved.

7yo girl's tongue removed from Disney mug with hacksaw
[RT] Disney has removed a children’s mug from its stores and destroyed current stocks of the product after a seven-year-old girl got her tongue trapped in its lid for more than four hours. Doctors used a hacksaw to free Megan Donald’s mouth from the mug.
A terrifying thought.
The mug in question, a Monsters Inc-branded screw-top, sucked in Megan’s tongue through its spout while the child was attending school in Kirkintilloch, Glasgow on Wednesday.

When it was clear Megan’s tongue was stuck, an ambulance was called and whisked the child to A&E. Images shared with RT show her tongue swollen and purple.

"They have offered to send Megan some Disney store products but I declined," her mother Natalie told RT following the ordeal.

The base of the cup was eventually removed,
Eventually??
relieving Megan of the weight of a full mug, before a hacksaw and drill was used to remove the lid ending an ordeal estimated to have lasted four hours.

Natalie Donald said the accident was due to the mug’s spout being too large, with no valve allowing airflow while drinking.

The Disney Store told BBC that the mug, and a further three similar models, were withdrawn from stock in store and online. Mugs already in circulation will not be recalled, something that concerns Mrs Donald who said she was "disappointed" with how Disney has handled the issue.

Trump to keep Israeli embassy in Tel Aviv: reports
[AA.TR] President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
will not relocate the U.S. embassy in Tel Aviv, Israel, to Jerusalem, according to multiple reports Wednesday.

The decision would break a major campaign promise from Trump who vowed to make the highly controversial move, but would likely stave off a major diplomatic crisis.

Israel and Paleostine each claim the contested city as their capital. Moving the American embassy there would be a de facto recognition of Israel's illusory sovereignty in the area and would rebuff Paleostinian claims.

An unnamed senior White House official told Bloomberg Politics the move would not be "wise to do it at this time".

"We’ve been very clear what our position is and what we would like to see done, but we’re not looking to provoke anyone when everyone’s playing really nice," the official said.

Two girls ‘raped’
[DAWN] RAW
... India's Research and Analysis Wing, Pakistain's equivalent of the Boogie Man...
ALPINDI: Two girls were allegedly kidnapped by two individuals and later raped in a hotel in Saddar.

The aunt of one of the victims said in her FIR that her niece, who resided with her, went to a nearby shop on Monday with a friend to buy groceries. They were standing along the side of the road when a black car with two passengers stopped near them and identified themselves as police. They told the victims they seemed suspicious and wanted to investigate them at the cop shoppe.

One of the victims said in the FIR that they were driven to a hotel in Saddar where they were sexually assaulted by two individuals who then left, and then by another two individuals who left after locking them in the room.

Saddar Bairooni SHO Malik Rafaqat said two girls were kidnapped and later raped. He claimed that the suspects might be police officials and the incident was being investigated.

‘Missing’ young girl raped, murdered in Karachi
[DAWN] A six-year-old girl, who went missing on Monday after stepping out of her home in North Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
, was found dead in the Manghopir area in the early hours of Tuesday, police said.

A post-mortem examination of her body showed that the little girl was raped before being murdered.

The body was spotted in bushes in Manghopir hours after her parents had approached the police to trace her. The parents, residents of Nooruddin Goth in North Karachi, had told the police that they had failed to find her. She had gone out in the afternoon but never returned, they complained.

Later in the early hours of Tuesday, the police found the body in Manghopir. "The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for a post-mortem examination. We then called the complainants from North Karachi to the hospital where they identified her," said Manghopir SHO Inspector Haji Sanaullah.

Initial findings of the post-mortem examination at the hospital indicated that the girl was "murdered after sexual assault", said the SHO.

PIA’s descent
[DAWN] THE national flag carrier has suffered another blow to its image with the news that a consignment of heroin has been seized from one of its aircraft at London’s Heathrow airport. Apparently, the contraband was hidden inside the structure of the aircraft itself, since the authorities allowed all passengers to disembark before searching the plane. It is almost impossible that the contraband could have been placed in the aeroplane without the involvement of some members of the ground handling staff or maintenance personnel. The Anti-Narcotics Force had cleared the plane before departure. The crew was not under suspicion because they were released after being briefly detained at the airport. All this indicates that the UK authorities had prior intelligence alerting them to the presence of the consignment in the aircraft, and the information was accurate enough to allow them to let all the passengers disembark before starting their search.

The episode illustrates the multiple dysfunctions that the airline has fallen prey to. First, the strength of the rackets that operate within its abundant workforce is so powerful that it can be a conduit for narcotics smuggling. Second, where the UK authorities had prior intimation of the presence of drugs in the plane, the Anti-Narcotics Force seemed to have had no idea. It is not clear who was supposed to retrieve the consignment at London Heathrow, but clearly, whoever was behind this attempt, had made arrangements. It is imperative that the matter be investigated thoroughly at Pakistain’s end, starting with the drawing up of a list of all those who came into contact with the aircraft before its departure and who could have been in a position to plant the narcotics. This is about more than just the image of the airline. More such incidents involving PIA could have adverse consequences for all international flights operated by the airline. It will be difficult to investigate much over here without at least some cooperation from the UK authorities. According to some reports, an inquiry has been launched by the customs department, but given that the concealment of the heroin in the panels and other recesses of the plane suggests the involvement of other airport personnel as well, clearly the investigation needs to be on a broader level. PIA has suffered enormously at the hands of the powerful rackets that operate within it, and it needs to be rescued from their clutches if it is to survive.

Reports of the incident are confused but it seems that staff were evacuated from the Dahra site after threats were made.

However, when gunmen arrived they found their way barred by members of the Nawasi Brigade. The resulting stand-off ended when more Nawasi members arrived and the gunmen left.

Important meeting in Umm Al-Rizm reason for Ageela Salah no-show at Operation Dignity celebrations
[Libya Herald] House of Representatives President Ageela Saleh is reported saying that the reason he did not attend the third anniversary celebrations of Operation Dignity yesterday in Tocra was because he had an important meeting to attend in Umm al-Rizm, a small town between Derna and Tobruk.

The statement is seen as being in response to a growing wave of questions on social media as to why he did not turn up. Initially it was reported that he had done so and widely-shared images appeared to show him arriving for the celebrations yesterday. They were, in fact, taken the day before, at the rehearsal for the event when he did meet with chief of staff Major-General Abdul Razzaq al-Nazhouri.

Despite the explanation, a number of social media pages have claimed the no-show was because of concerns about a possible confrontation between his guards and LNA security. This, however, has not been confirmed. Other reports spoke of Saleh having arrived late for the celebrations and not being allowed in.

This evening it was reported that Nazhuri had travelled to Guba to speak to Saleh.

The news comes as the US renewed its sanctions on Saleh for another year. They were first issued last May because the HoR president was "responsible for stalling political progress in Libya" by blocking votes in parliament.

UN envoy calls on Govt to negotiate with Al shabaab
[SHABELLENEWS] Defeating al-Shabaab
... the Islamic version of the old Somali warlord...
snuffies in Somalia requires a "carrot and stick" approach that could eventually include political negotiations with the Islamist holy warriors, the U.N.’s top official in the country tells Newsweek.
The ever-helpful UN...
Somalia’s President Mohammed Abdullahi Farmajo, elected in February, has declared a state of war against the al-Qaeda affiliate. The president offered a 60-day amnesty to disaffected members of the group in April and has pledged to eradicate it within two years.

Al-Shabaab emerged from the Islamic Courts Union that was ousted from the Somali capital, Mogadishu, by Æthiopian forces in 2006.

The snuffies have carried out major attacks in Somalia and neighboring countries, such as Kenya, and regularly carry out suicide kabooms in the Somali capital Mogadishu, killing civilians, government officials and soldiers.

Michael Keating, the Special Representative of U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in Somalia, tells Newsweek that while the offer of an amnesty was a good start, it would not be sufficient to placate the holy warrior group.

"I don’t think an amnesty on its own is going to work. It’s a signal more than a strategy, saying ’We do not consider you all to be dyed in the wool ideological enemies,’" says Keating, speaking on the sidelines of a major international conference on Somalia in London Thursday.

"The amnesty is part of that carrot approach, but you also need the stick approach, particularly if they’re using violence to advance their political objectives."

British diplomat chased by ‘massive’ wild boar in Austria
[RT] The British Ambassador to Austria, Leigh Turner, was injured trying to escape from a group of rampaging wild boar when he slipped trying to climb to safety.

Her Majesty’s ambassador had been enjoying a walk through the Austrian countryside, following a visit to Mauthausen concentration camp near Linz, when he stumbled upon a family of wild boar.

Leigh suffered the indignity of being chased by a particularly fearsome beast. He sustained minor injuries to his hand in the pursuit, which he described rather eloquently in his blog post ’An encounter with a Viennese wild boar.’

"Climbing through the woods after a cloudburst, I follow the path around a corner to find myself confronting a group of wild boar - four or five hulking adults and countless piglets - known, charmingly, as Frischlinge in German," the blog reads.

Turner began to gingerly walk away from the notoriously territorial animals when suddenly he heard "a noise behind [him] like a galloping horse" and turned around to see a "massive wild boar, head down charging straight at [him]."

Jilted lover kidnaps ex at gunpoint during ceremony in India
[RT] A woman in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh kidnapped her former lover at gunpoint and bundled him into a car just moments before he was due to be wed.

The unnamed woman reportedly burst into the wedding venue accompanied by three gunnies and bundled her ex-boyfriend Ashok Yadav into a waiting SUV before he could say his vows on Monday night.

"The gunnies took Ashok at gunpoint and threatened him to accompany them. After bundling him on the rear seat of a car, they sped away," the Times of India quotes a police official as saying.

It’s reported Yadav met the woman while the pair were working at a medical clinic in the town of Banda. They dated for a while and had even agreed to marry before Yadav began avoiding her when his parents arranged a marriage to another woman in a neighboring town.

The spurned woman allegedly became furious when her beloved cut contact with her and hatched the plan for Dire Revenge.

All might not be as it seems, however.

Investigating police believe that the kidnapping was staged and are trying to locate the pair of star-crossed lovers.

"How can a woman kidnap a grown man in front of so many people? Nobody tried to stop them or save the groom. In reality, the man willingly went away with the girl," police told the Times of India.

Egypt army discovers 10m-deep smuggling tunnel along North Sinai border
[AlAhram] Egyptian border guards have discovered a 10-metre-deep smuggling tunnel along the frontier region of North Sinai, while conducting counter-terrorism activities in the region, the army said.

The tunnel had been used by Islamist snuffies to smuggle arms, the military said in a statement on Wednesday.

The army said it found the tunnel while carrying out operations to stem the Islamist insurgency taking place in North Sinai -- an insurgency which the military says has killed hundreds of police and army personnel in recent years.

Egypt has launched a campaign to destroy a network of smuggling tunnels connecting the besieged Gazoo Strip with the Sinai Peninsula, which authorities see as a weapons smuggling route for the gunnies in Egypt's Sinai desert.

In October 2014, the Egyptian military said it has destroyed a total of 1,813 tunnels in Sinai since 2011.

Wednesday's statement added that border guards also foiled a recent attempt to smuggle weapons, ammunitions and drugs through the country's western border.

Court indicts judge, wife in Tayyaba torture case
[NATION.PK] The Islamabad High Court Tuesday framed charges against Raja Khurram Ali and his wife Maheen Zafar in Taiba torture case.

A single bench of IHC comprising Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani
... four star general, current Chief of Army Staff of the Mighty Pak Army. Kayani is the former Director General of ISI...
conducted hearing of the case and decided to indict both of the accused in this case. Both the accused pleaded non-guilty.

The bench also turned down an application of Additional District and Sessions Judge and now OSD Raja Khurram and his wife challenging their indictment.

The court announced this verdict which had been reserved on May 10 regarding indictment of the accused or to accept the affidavits submitted by Taiba’s parents where they had pardoned the accused and expressed their desire not to continue with the litigation.

In its judgment, Justice Kayani rejected the application of Raja Khurram and his wife where they had challenged their indictment. The bench also expressed its reservations over the affidavits submitted by Taiba’s parents and said that these affidavits seem to be prepared under pressure.

Justice Kayani also said that Muhammad Azam, father of Taiba Bibi, appeared before the court and acknowledged his affidavit of compromise executed on April 27, 2017 in favour of Maheen Zafar and Raja Khurram Ali Khan. He acknowledged the contents of affidavit regarding factum of compromise with the accused and has no objection if accused will be acquitted from such charges.

Later, the court adjourned the hearing in this matter till May 19 when witnesses will be examined. There are total 19 witnesses in this case where 11 witnesses are officials while eight are private persons. Among officials there included an assistant commissioner who recorded Taiba’s statement, doctors who performed medical check-up and investigation officer of this case. Among private witnesses there included Taiba’s parents and neighbours of Raja Khurram Ali Khan etc.

Previously, Taiba’s father had stated before the court that he is ready to reconcile or compromise in this matter and if the court acquits the accused he has not objections.

The counsel for Raja Khurram Ali Khan had been arguing in this matter that under the law if the victim is a juvenile then his guardian has the powers to sign compromise on victim’s behalf and under the alleged crime that there can be reconciliation.

An additional district & sessions judge (ADSJ) and now OSD Raja Khurram Ali Khan his wife Maheen Zafar are accused in this matter for allegedly torturing a juvenile housemaid Taiba and keeping her in the illegal confinement.

Former DOJ Spox: Comey Is Trying To Take Down Trump
[Daily Caller] Former FBI Director James Comey may have been building a legal case against President Donald Trump well before the president fired him on May 9, according to a former Department of Justice (DOJ) spokesperson.

Matthew Miller, who served as the DOJ’s Director of the Office of Public Affairs under former Attorney General Eric Holder, suggested that Comey may have been building an obstruction of justice case against the president, in an interview with the Washington Post.

Miller’s suggestion carries weight not just because of his extensive background at DOJ and in government, but also because he predicted that Comey left a paper trail of his interactions with Trump. Miller sent the following tweet five days before the New York Times reported that Comey wrote a memo indicating the president had asked him to end an investigation into former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn.

While Miller said it is standard practice for an FBI director to record potentially inappropriate conversations and behavior, Comey could have taken a different approach when speaking with the president.

"I keep wondering, something in the back of my head keeps saying to me, maybe Comey was actually trying to build an obstruction-of-justice case against the president here," Miller told WaPo.

He explained that when Trump allegedly made the request to end the investigation of Flynn in February, Comey could have immediately warned the president that the conversation was inappropriate and that a request like that should never be made again.

"But if you’re trying to build an obstruction-of-justice case, you might want the president to keep talking, because everything he does is digging a deeper legal hole for himself," Miller suggested. He also speculaed that Comey may have stayed on, instead of resigning as Trump’s FBI director, in order to dig that hole a little deeper. "Comey might have wanted him to keep talking to see what he says," he posited.

Miller agreed with the president that Comey is a "showboat," which is another reason he believes Comey may be coming after Trump.

"You just look at his [Comey’s] actions in the [Hillary] Clinton case, where he made himself the central player when there was no reason for him to be the central player," Miller said. "That aside, his entire history shows that he likes to be at the center of attention."

Miller claimed that its still unknown who leaked the Comey memo to The New York Times and admitted that it is unclear what the goal was.

"But if you were really looking to damage the president," he added, "you wouldn’t leak the most damaging memo first. So who knows what comes next?"

Afghanistan
Blasts heard inside Afghan state TV compound in Jalalabad after gunmen attack
[RT] Gunmen attacked an Afghan TV station in eastern Jalalabad, starting a firefight with security forces, according to local authorities. At least 10 people, including the attackers, were killed in the clashes and 18 more injured, AP cited officials as saying.

Officials say three suicide attackers came into the National Radio Television in Afghanistan (RTA) in Jalalabad in Nangarhar and two detonated themselves.

“We can confirm that a number of insurgents have entered the building. Who they are, and what their target is, is still not clear,” Attaullah Khughyani, the provincial governor’s spokesman said, as cited by Reuters.

The attack left four Afghan state TV employees and two policemen dead, and at least 16 more injured. There could be up to 24 people injured, including 17 civilians and seven servicemen, according to local authorities, as cited by Al Jazeera.

At least four attackers were killed in the shootout with Afghan security forces according to AP, citing Interior Ministry spokesman Najib Danish.

IS has claimed responsibility for the attack, according to the terrorist group's media agency.

Some 40 people work in the compound every day and, while many managed to flee, some remain trapped inside, an RTA employee told TOLOnews.
Al Ahram adds:
The attack, in the eastern city of Jalalabad, was the latest in a series on Afghan journalists and media in recent years.

IS group has established a stronghold in Nangarhar

and Afghan government forces.

The raid on the RTA state broadcaster was carried out by four attackers, one of whom had detonated a suicide bomb at the entrance to the compound, said provincial governor Gulab Mangal.

As the attack unfolded, heavy gunfire could be heard from around the RTA building, which is close to the governor's compound

"[IS group] fighters are currently carrying out an attack inside the state broadcasting building in the city of Jalalabad," the movement's AMAQ news agency said in a statement on instant messaging service Telegram.

The three others were killed by security forces in the shootout.

Seventeen civilians and seven members of the security forces were maimed, he added.

IS group has recently been hit hard by US air strikes and special forces operations. The head of IS group in Afghanistan, Abdul Hassib, was reported this month to have been killed in a joint Afghan-US operation in Nangarhar at the end of April.

IS group has also grabbed credit for a series of high-profile attacks in the capital, Kabul, including one in March on Afghanistan's largest military hospital.

So yes it is perfectly legal, in international and national waters, even without a warrant or probable cause. In the USA this has always been the case even before the US became the USA. Your fourth amendment rights and your boat

So short version, yes the boarding by military (including local coast guard) is perfectly legal.

Arabia
A Pakistani's Suggestion, How Trump Can Secure the Strait of Hormuz
[TorontoSun] Donald Trump has been U.S. president for a little over 100 days, but there hasn’t been a week where he’s found respite from his critics, who are already whispering "impeachment".

The latest "scandal" heaped on Trump is the Washington Post claim he leaked highly classified information to Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Ambassador Sergey Kislyak about Islamic State (ISIS).

The only other American officials in that meeting, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, National Security Advisor H. R. McMaster and his deputy, Dina Powell, have publicly denounced the Post story, entirely based on anonymous sources, as "false".

But even if the allegation that Trump shared intelligence about ISIS with Russia is true, isn’t the fact both Russia and the U.S. are fighting ISIS relevant to the Post, or to other commentators who immediately took to the air to denounce Trump?

For over 50 years, I have keenly followed the travails of 11 American presidents, protesting their crimes in Vietnam, Chile and my native Pakistan.

But never have I seen the outrage that has greeted Trump.

Is it because he vowed during his campaign last year to "drain the swamp" of the forces that really run Washington?

Trump, is like a bulldozer, shrugging off all the attacks on him.

Next week, he heads to Saudi Arabia, where the guile and cunning of its rulers have manipulated American presidents for 70 years.

However, the way the Trump administration has dealt with Turkey gives us hope.

Despite fierce opposition from that country, Trump has approved supplying arms to Kurdish YPG (Yekineyen Parastina Gel) fighters to support an operation aimed at retaking the Syrian city of Raqqa from ISIS.

The Turks howled in protest saying arming Kurds in Syria would pose a threat to Turkey, but U.S. Secretary of Defense James Mattis made sure Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s temper tantrums would not cause the U.S. to betray the Kurds.

If the Saudis lure America with a $100 billion order for jet fighters, let that not be the bait to suck America into the kingdom’s power struggle with Iran.

For all its bluster, Iran does not yet possess nuclear weapons.

Pakistan does, along with delivery systems, and these are available to Saudi Arabia.

The BBC reported this as early as 2013, saying, Saudi Arabia has invested in Pakistani nuclear weapons projects, and "could obtain atomic bombs at will".

The BBC report cited a senior NATO decision maker saying, "he had seen intelligence reporting that nuclear weapons made in Pakistan on behalf of Saudi Arabia are now sitting ready for delivery."

There are also reports the Saudis are trying to whip up an anti-Shia uprising within Iran’s Sistan and Balochistan province.

This as a way to divert attention from the 70-year-old Balochistan freedom movement in Pakistan and turn that nationalist movement, similar to the Kurdish struggle, into an anti-Iranian, Sunni Islamic militancy.

Perhaps it is time for Trump to arm the nationalist Baloch in Pakistan-occupied Balochistan just as he’s armed the YPG in Syria.

A free Balochistan, secular and liberal, rid of ISIS, the Taliban, al-Qaida and the anti-India Lashmar-e-Taiba (LeT) at the mouth of the Strait of Hormuz, should be America’s goal and Trump’s priority.

After all, banking on Islamabad in Pakistan, Riyadh in Saudi Arabia and Ankara in Turkey has failed, because the Islamist double-speak of the dictators ruling these countries has consistently fooled America.

Royal Saudi Strategic Missile Force

Short Version: the Saudis have had Chinese-built IRBMs since the early 80s, originally to remind the Iranians and Iraqis that three could play at that game, but also to give them something to eventually use with the Pakistani bombs that they were paying for. (I have seen at least a couple sources that indicate the Saudis asked about Pershing IRBMs, but we wouldn't sell.)

Mentioned the Saudi missiles during a conversation late one night in the Magic Kingdom in 1995, and I was told - quietly but firmly- to shut the hell up and forget I'd ever even known about them. It was a VERY touchy subject.

Marriage between cousins linked to 19% of all child deaths in East London borough
[RT] Infant mortality and other health issues in the East London borough of Redbridge have been linked to a proliferation of marriages between first and second cousins among south Asian families.

The Redbridge Council was informed by the government’s Child Death Overview Panel (CDOP) that "consanguineous relationships" between couples who are at least second cousins caused 19 percent of an estimated two hundred infant deaths between 2008 and 2016.

"Genetic and congenital abnormalities" had caused the deaths, a meeting of the council’s Health and Wellbeing Board was told.

The Ilford Recorder, a local newspaper, reported that Gladys Xavier, who chairs the CDOP, informed the council that "educational programs" have been launched in Asian communities in response to the figures.

Xavier said schools have been asked to "put greater emphasis on genetics" in order to inform students about the health risks associated with marrying their cousins.

Cllr Joyce Ryan of the Redbridge Council told the meeting that some communities find it very "difficult to accept" the educational initiatives.

Vicky Stobart, Redbridge’s director of public health, told the Recorder: "Consanguinity is very common in many cultures and the worry with something like this is that we are dealing with very small numbers.

"It is important to note trends, but we should not read too much into it."

Consanguineous marriages are legal in the UK. It is estimated that up to 40 percent of marriages in Egypt are between at least second cousins, according to research carried out in 2016.

Well JohnQC. Considering that marriage between cousins account for only 19% of the child deaths. That leaves 81% of the child deaths to account for, I'm sure that "honor Killings" account for part of the remaining child deaths. I suppose that forcible marriages is also a factor in some of the child deaths. Then there's lack of vaccinations and hard labor in dangerous jobs using child labors, etc.. There really doesn't seems to be a limit on the number of ways to kill a child in East London Borough!

The Grand Turk
Game of Thrones inquiry linked to Turkey's coup attempt
[AA.TR] U.S. fantasy-drama Games of Thrones has been named in an indictment against a group of military officers allegedly tied to the group that planned last July’s attempted coup in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
, a judicial official said Wednesday.

The hit HBO show was singled out in an indictment against 136 military lawyers accused of ties to the Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO), which Ankara has said plotted the failed putsch.

The suspects are said to have been assigned to martial courts that the plotters planned to establish if the July 15 coup had succeeded, the official said on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on talking to the media.

One of the key witnesses in the indictment -- Lt. Volkan Yetistirici, a prosecutor with the Turkish Navy -- investigated five military teachers at Maltepe Military High School in Izmir in 2011 over the screening of the show to students.

The teachers had purportedly shown episodes of the show -- known for its frequent nudity and gory violence -- to help the students improve their English.

In a case that became known as the Game of Thrones Investigation, they were charged with "insulting Turkishness" and "sexual exploitation" by screening the series to under-18s and later discharged from the army.

In October last year, they were cleared by the Constitutional Court when it ruled their right to a fair trial had been violated.

In the indictment -- prepared by the Ankara Public Prosecutor’s Office and sent to the 16th High Penal Court on Tuesday -- Yetistirici outlined how the investigation was not properly authorized, the official said.

He accused FETO-linked officers of framing the five teachers. This same FETO cabal then made a complaint against him when he refused to prosecute the 2011 case.

Yetistirici added that FETO typically blacklisted judges and prosecutors not tied to the organization. "The biggest characteristic of this organization is having a cell-type structure and a professional intelligence network," he said in the document.

In recent years, hundreds of military officers were jugged
Book 'im, Mahmoud!
in cases later shown to have been fabricated by suspected FETO members. The officers were subsequently cleared.

Europe
RT: Austria says no to the veil
Austria’s parliament has approved a package of measures that outlaws distributing the Koran and wearing traditional Islamic full-face veils in public. Starting in October, a €150 fine ($166) will be levied on women wearing burkas and niqabs.

The legislative package that was passed on Tuesday night also requires asylum seekers to take a one-year integration course, during which they must learn Austrian ethics and the German language, German newspaper Bild reported.

Under the new measures, migrants must also perform unpaid public work or face losing benefits or other consequences. The requirement is meant to better prepare refugees for the Austrian labor market, according to Bild.

The measure received the go-ahead from both ruling parties, the Social Democratic Party (the SPÖ) and center-right Austrian People’s Party (the ÖVP), Austria’s news outlet oe24.at reported.

Opposition parties have criticized the move, however, saying it is doubtful that banning full-face veils will contribute to integration.

Attacks on migrant facilities doubled in Austria in 2016 compared to the previous year. The acts committed by the perpetrators ranged from hurling Molotov cocktails at buildings to slashing gas pipes, officials said last month.

Austria has received more than 130,000 asylum claims from applicants from the Middle East and North Africa since the summer of 2015. The country of some 8.7 million people has taken in more refugees per capita than any other country in Europe, apart from Sweden.

Under an EU refugee resettlement and relocation program agreed on in 2015, Austria has to accept 460 asylum-seekers from Italy and about 1,400 refugees from Greece. However, Austria took in around 90,000 refugees in 2015 (more than one percent of its population), and was granted a temporary exemption.

As part of a campaign to speed up the repatriation of around 50,000 asylum seekers, Vienna promised in March to double the amount of money paid to migrants who voluntarily return home. Austrian Interior Minister Wolfgang Sobotka said the plan primarily targets “those who are not likely to be granted the right to long-term residence.”

Traditional Islamic head and face coverings have long been controversial in Europe, where they are often seen as incompatible with secular values. France became the first European country to impose a ban on full-face coverings in 2011. Belgium followed suit shortly thereafter.

Late last month, German MPs approved a partial ban on full-face veils, saying it’s the country’s duty to present itself “in an ideologically and religiously neutral manner.” The ban applies to public servants, including elected officials, military personnel, and staff working in the judiciary.

“[The ban] obliges officials and soldiers not to hide their faces while performing their duties or during direct fulfillment of their tasks,” a statement on the Bundestag’s website said.

The legislation does contain some exceptions, however. For example, military personnel and public servants may wear full-face veils to protect themselves from infections. Police officers can also cover their faces in order to conceal their identity.

With al-Qaywaran still some 17 km away, the next step in their efforts, will be for the militia to seize control of the Thura airbase and al-Ba´aj from the Islamic State. If they succeed, they will have layed the ground to finally claim back the important town of al-Qaywaran from the terrorist group.

In addition the Iraqi Airforce took it’s bite from ISIS forces. The Iraqi AirForce Command confirmed that around 50 fighters of the Islamic state have been killed in a row of Arclight airstrikes on six different local headquartes of the Islamic state in Iraq. The headquarters were located in the regions of Tal Afar, Al Ba´aj and Qaywaran.

With the last days of the Islamic State in Mosul counted, Iraq also seeks to secure it’s border with Syria. This would further impede formers already crippled economy, which heavily relies on smuggling through the various mostly non-existent borders of the region.

Five Palestinians arrested for making pipe bombs out of fireworks
[IsraelTimes] Men nabbed for allegedly manufacturing explosives, using them in attacks on soldiers in northern West Bank.

The Israel Defense Forces broke up a cell of Paleostinian men who are suspected of making pipe bombs and using them in several attacks in the northern West Bank, an army officer said Tuesday.

Last month, the army locked away
Drop the rod and step away witcher hands up!
a group of four Paleostinian men who had made and used pipe bombs in attacks on Israeli troops in the Tulkarem area.

During their interrogations, the four suspects revealed the origins of their homemade bombs: an illegal fireworks dealer.

According to the IDF officer, who spoke on condition of anonymity, the suspects’ testimonies led the security services to a fifth Paleostinian man in the Tulkarem area who was selling large quantities of fireworks in the knowledge that they were being used for terror attacks, "not for something innocent."

The army raided the building from which the fireworks dealer was peddling his goods on Thursday and found 10 boxes of pyrotechnics, the officer said.

Fireworks are illegal to own in the West Bank. The army is now investigating how the dealer acquired the merchandise.

According to the officer, the four suspects used the explosives inside the fireworks to craft "classic" pipe bombs.

"They made bombs with a very, very large amount of the explosives from the fireworks, cramming it into pipes and sealing it on both sides with screwed-on caps," the officer said.

The four Paleostinian men are suspected of using these pipe bombs in the weeks before their arrest to attack military positions in the northern West Bank, not in attacks against civilians, the IDF official said.

No soldiers were seriously maimed in these attacks; however these kinds of pipe bombs have been known to cause serious injury and even death in the past. Last year, an IDF officer was maimed in a pipe kaboom that was perpetrated by a group of five Paleostinian men.

The four suspects in the Tulkarem area were not trained members of a terrorist group, though they did have some connections with one, the officer said.

"But I can’t say which as it’s still being investigated," he added.

In their interrogations, the suspects said they carried out their attacks out of a combination of nationalistic motivations, as well as a general sense of frustration with the situation in the West Bank, the officer said.

The suspects, all of them between the ages of 17 and 24, were residents of the city of Tulkarem and the Nur a-Shams refugee camp, he said.

In the coming days, indictments will be filed against the suspects.

Houthi guerilla operations let Saudi invasion forces pay heavy price in Jizan region
[ALMASDARNEWS] In several operations conducted by the Houthi
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The Yemeni government has accused the Houthis of having ties to the Iranian government, which wouldn't suprise most of us. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews ...
forces in the Jizan region against Saudi led groundtroops, several soldiers of the invading forces have been killed, further exhausting the latters already mauled contingent of fighters.

The media wing of the Yemen’s military announced on Wednesday the killing of two Saudi soldiers in clandestine sniper operations, targeting the site of Al Dafynah in Jizan region.

According to the same sources the crew of a Saudi military vehicle has been killed and maimed in an ambush the same day. They were attacked with a remotely controlled bomb on their way to the military base of Khashal in Jizan.

The day before the Saudi led forces already had to lament a heavy loss, as Yemeni Army units together with their Houthi allies, conducted an aussault, with which they were able to take full control of a Saudi military post located east of al-Talaa in Najran.

The Saudi Army’s conventional training, equipment and strategic misalignment renders it incapable of facing their enemies in Yemen. While heavy bombardments and the siege imposed by the Saudi led coalition takes their toll on Yemen, the groundforces are stuck in a disadvantageous battle situation.

The Yemeni Army and the Houthis have compensated their disadvantage in military equipment by employing a guerilla strategy, which has already led a multitude of conventionally inferior combatants to victory in various conflicts around the globe. The inability to adapt renders the Saudi forces vulnerable to ambushes and sniper attacks and therefore costs them many lifes on a daily basis.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
Dogs can talk to humans, study suggests
Dogs have a surprising ability to make humans understand what their barks and growls mean, a study has shown.
And everyone was just so surprised.
Women were better than men at recognizing when a dog was being playful or threatening, or feeling fear, scientists discovered.
And anyone who has been around dogs or other animals for a period of time could have told you the same damn thing. How much was this study again?
For the study, 40 volunteers listened to different growls recorded from 18 dogs that were guarding their food, facing a threatening stranger, or playing a tug-of-war game.
My cat is actually slightly more articulate than the dogs. I've never had a cat that talked that much. The dogs use more body language than he does, but they don't hit me up for money as often.
Overall, participants correctly classified 63 per cent of the growl samples - significantly more than would be expected by guesswork alone, said the researchers.
I'm guessing sixty three percent translate as "give me food." No idea what the rest of it is.
Each growl type was also recognized above chance level. The human listeners identified 81 per cent of the "play" growls but were less good at recognizing food guarding and threatening growls.
If you have two dogs in the house you WILL recognize that one
Dr Tamas Farago and his team from Eotvos Lorand University in Hungary wrote in the journal Royal Society Open Science: "Participants associated the correct contexts with the growls above chance.
If you were trying to take a nap or a bath they're usually saying "Boss! Boss! There's somebody out front!"
"Moreover, women and participants experienced with dogs scored higher in this task."
No shit....
Kinda like saying someone that has been around lots of guns can identify different guns by their report, or a bird watcher can identify different birds by their calls...
How much was this study again?

During play, dogs produced a larger number of shorter, less separated, growls than when they were aggressive or fearful, the research showed. Play growls and food guarding growls also had distinctively different pitch characteristics.
There's a particular snarl that sez "I'm gonna rip your throat out if you don't get away from my bowl! That's not far enough away!"
As well as identifying growl contexts, the volunteers also had to rate growls on a sliding scale according to five emotional states - aggression, fear, despair, happiness and playfulness.
"Despair?" You mean like when doggy's been left at the vet?
Context had a "significant effect" on reading dog emotions, said the scientists. Playful growls were rated lowest for aggression, and food guarding growls highest.
Context has a significant effect with human language as well.
The scientists concluded: "Our results ... indicate that dogs communicate honestly their size and inner state in serious contest situations, where confrontation would be costly, such as during guarding of their food from another dog. At the same time, in contexts with assumedly more uncertain inner states, such as in play or when threatened by a stranger, they may manipulate certain key parameters in their growls for an exaggerated aggressive and playful expression.
How prominently fangs are shown is a part of it. If Phideau has ripped open the garbage and gorged himself on chicken bones and rotting corned beef hash you might hear a particular kind of whine that translates as "The cat told me it was okay! Please don't hit me again!"
"According to our results, adult humans seem to understand and respond accordingly to this acoustic information during cross-species interactions with dogs."
As with any animal species we spend a great deal of time with.

How much was this stupid study again?

Israeli settler shoots, moderately wounds stone-throwing Palestinian
[IsraelTimes] Police arrest both shooter and stone-thrower after incident on Route 60 in West Bank; Israeli says he acted in self-defense.

An Israeli settler Wednesday shot a Paleostinian who thew stones at his car as he drove along a road in the West Bank.

The incident came after a group of 20 Paleostinians hurled rocks at vehicles traveling on Route 60 near the Paleostinian village of Silwad, the IDF said.

One Israeli driver stopped his car, chased the fleeing Paleostinians, and shot one of them.

The Paleostinian was taken to a hospital in Israel with moderate injuries.

Police detained the shooter and a passenger who was in the car with him, the Hebrew daily Haaretz reported. Their attorney, far-right activist Itamar Ben Gvir, said they opened fire in self-defense because they were attacked with rocks. Police also detained the Paleostinian.

In a separate incident overnight, a woman, 35, was injured when Paleostinians threw rocks at her car on Route 60 near the al-Khader junction. Magen David Adom paramedics who arrived at the scene treated the woman and took her to Hadassah Hospital Ein Kerem in Jerusalem with light injuries to her face.
