'Ottomans Were the First to Reach The Moon,' Sez Turkish President
Something to make you smile for the day.
Istanbul| Ottomans were the first to walk on the surface of the moon, not Neil Armstrong, said Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, yesterday, during an iftar (fast-breaking) dinner hosted by the Turkish Green Crescent.

Mr. Erdogan claimed that Muslim explorers reached the Moon more than 300 years before the beginning of the Appolo program, vowing to build a mosque "in the crater" where they landed.

"It is alleged that the first man to walk on the moon was Neil Armstrong in 1969," Erdogan said. "In fact, Muslim space explorers reached our satellite 334 years before that, in 1635. Everyone knows the story of the famous aviator, Lagâri Hasan Celebi, the "Ottoman Rocket Man", who made the first successful manned rocket flight in 1633. What you might not know, is that he attempted to reach the moon, two years later, and could very well have succeeded!"

The story of Lagari Hasan Celebi was purported by a famous 17th century Arab merchant and traveller, Mehmed Zilli, also known as Evliya Celebi. In his famous travelog, he explains that Lagari Hasan Celebi launched in a 7-winged rocket using 50 okka (63.5 kg or 140 lbs) of gunpowder. It took off from Sarayburnu, a site below the Topkapi Palace in Istanbul.

As Evliya Celebi wrote, Lagari proclaimed before launch "O my sultan! Be blessed, I am going to talk to Jesus!", before lighting the rocket’s gunpowder. He then ascended more than 200 meters in the air and landed in the sea, hundreds of meters from his takeoff point. Swimming ashore, he allegedly reported: "O my sultan! Jesus sends his regards to you!".

President Erdogan’s surprising claim generated some whispers and laughter from the audience, a reaction that clearly angered the Turkish politician. He slammed the skeptics for mocking his claims, adding that he would soon have the proofs to back his claims.

"Why do you not believe it? Because you’ve never believed that a Muslim can do such a thing, just like you’ve never believed that our ancestors could manage to launch ships in the Golden Horn after transporting them across land," Erdogan said, referring to Ottoman Sultan Mehmet II’s conquest of Istanbul in 1453. "This claim is not new. A number of academics in Turkey and in the rest of the world have made this claim, and I believe they are right. NASA may have destroyed most of the physical evidence of the Ottoman’s success during the Apollo 11 mission, but we’ll try to find any evidence that might have escaped the cover up."

The Turkish President did not, however, give any precision about the proofs he was expecting to find nor how he was hoping to gather them.

The story of Lagâri Hasan Celebi is considered a legend by most historians, and most experts believe that it is impossible that the "aviator" could have survived a flight into outer space.

His first flight was, indeed, addressed in an experiment by the television show MythBusters, on November 11, 2009, in the episode "Crash and Burn". The rocket constructed for the TV show did not adhere closely, however, to Evliya Celebi’s descriptions and the final design did not attempt to utilize materials of the period;

The team noted that Evliya Celebi had not sufficiently specified the alleged design used by Lagâri Hasan, but concluded that it would have been "extremely difficult" for a 17th-century figure, without access to modern steel alloys and welding techniques, to land safely or even achieve thrust at all. This conclusion was backed by the fact that, although the re-imagined rocket rose, it exploded in midflight

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Outsourcing Firm Lead Pleads Guilty to H-1B Fraud
[Breitbart] A California-based businesswoman who runs an outsourcing firm to replace American tech workers pleaded guilty to H-1B visa fraud.

Sridevi Aiyaswamy of Strataserv Inc. in San Jose, California, pleaded guilty in federal court after she fraudulently brought foreign guest workers on the H-1B visa to the United States by falsely claiming they had already secured jobs in the country when they had not, according to Mercury News.

Aiyaswamy brought 25 foreign nationals to the U.S. on H-1B visas by telling immigration officials that jobs were waiting at Cisco Systems, Inc.

Every year, more than 100,000 foreign guest workers come to the U.S. on the H-1B visa, replacing Americans in the tech, medical, fashion, and other industries.

Strataserv, Aiyaswamy’s outsourcing firm, previously worked with some of the largest outsourcers including Microsoft, Oracle, Cisco Systems, IBM, Amazon, Yahoo!, and Apple.

Aiyaswamy pleaded guilty to three of the 34 counts she was charged with, admitting to the H-1B visa fraud. The woman now faces a maximum 10-year prison sentence and a $250,000 fine.

William Shatner Blasts ‘Social Justice Warriors' Who Criticize Trump
William Shatner is such a smarty pants on twitter. He gets his snarky point across with few words.

Shatner has been the subject of left-wing anger since he announced in May that he would not follow the lead of many in Hollywood and attack President Donald Trump.

Shatner, a Canadian, said, "I consider myself a guest here," when asked to comment on former Star Trek cast member George Takei’s constant criticisms of the President.

On Twitter Wednesday morning, the Captain Kirk actor was asked his plans for the day. He responded by saying, "Tweet Hello. Have SJWs get offended by figuring some obtuse way to define it. Spend my day telling them off. You know, just a typical day."
...
Fellow actor Adam Baldwin asked Shatner if social justice warriors "ever explain the difference between their ’social justice’ and Justice?"
...
The tweets go on with one person on the left saying that progressives gave shatter his career back...

Shatner simply replied, "How so?"

LOL!
The next Star Trek reunion may be some fun to watch!

#2  Dear ladies,

For all the integration of females into the service, many have done a lot of good and have served honorably. However, those commanders and first shirts down in the company and platoon level have an encyclopaedia of 'fail' that only the brass has covered up for year. Remember the uproar when the theater commander in the ME threaten Art 15 when the next one got pregnant?* They, the preggies, get evaced and some male gets yanked for the duties (probably making his stateside rotation usually w/family very abbreviated). The Narrative(c) is not just owned by the Left. That suppression of the truth helped lead to this. If you want to serve, thank you, but serve to standards on the terms that the battlefield dictates, because the enemy doesn't care about pols, activists, or your desires in life. Do not endanger others in your ranks because your dreams do not match the reality that is the unforgiving combat environment.

* in olden days a soldier who inflected a debilitating wound upon himself to avoid danger or combat would be courts martialed as a minimum and in the real old days, executed as an example to others.

The medical and surgical issues are HUGE. Asking combat troops, or even behind-the-front-line troops to accommodate their particular hangups? This is not the job of the military. The Medicaid Snag in Obamacare Repeal
[American Thinker] One of the big concerns of Republican holdouts in Senate legislation to repeal and replace Obamacare is Medicaid. Many rural and low-income Americans depend on the program. But Medicaid is a huge expense; it’s the feds’ fourth largest outlay, behind only Defense, Social Security, and Medicare. But more than that, Medicaid’s growth rate is also cause for concern.

At the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), the fact sheet for national health expenditure (NHE) lists data for 2015 that helps us put Medicaid costs into context. The first fact is that total national healthcare spending was $3.2T in 2015, about the same as all federal revenue. The second fun fact is that Medicaid spending was $545.1B, and its rate of growth was 9.7 percent, which was significantly faster than the other major components of national healthcare.

Medicaid, however, is a federal-state program. Another report from the CMS, the "2016 Actuarial Report on the Financial Outlook for Medicaid," breaks down spending between the feds and the states in its Executive Summary on page iii (page 9 of the pdf): "Federal Medicaid outlays in 2015 were $349.8 billion and grew 16.0 percent over the previous year, in large part due to the Medicaid eligibility expansion." An annual growth rate of 16 percent seems particularly unsustainable in a welfare program like Medicaid.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Not surprisingly, Israeli removal of Temple Mount metal detectors not enough for Palestinians
[LI] After three Islamic terrorists used weapons hidden at the Al-Aqsa Mosque to kill two Israeli policemen, Israel placed metal detectors at the entrances to the Temple Mount. Just as there are already metal detectors to enter the Western Wall area, the holiest place at which Jews are allowed to pray.

The placement of metal detectors led to a wave of Palestinian violence (including the stabbing death of three Israelis having Sabbath dinner). There were many other threats of holy war against the Jews incited not just by Palestinians, but also by other Muslim leaders around the world.

Under threat of increased violence, and with the Jordanians effectively taking Israeli Embassy staff hostage, Israel capitulated in what appeared to be a deal for the release of Embassy staff in exchange for removing the metal detectors.

As I wrote in Israel capitulates to Palestinian terror, to remove metal detectors at Temple Mount. Israel said it would use other means of monitoring who entered the Temple Mount to prevent weapons smuggling, but Palestinians immediately announced they would not accept any additional security measures.

Feds Subsidized Housing for Nonexistent 'Ghost' Tenants
[Free Beacon] The Department of Housing and Urban Development spent over $500,000 on apartments for people who "did not exist," according to the agency's inspector general.
Apparently there were no comments regarding potential voting irregularities, food stamps fraud, or fraudulent Social Security check cashing among the ghost residents.
An audit released last month found that managers of Section 8 housing in Jefferson County, Texas, defrauded the government by stealing the identities of former tenants and falsifying incomes.

The government subsidizes the rent of 99 units at Beverly Place Apartments in Groves, Texas, and paid the complex $1.8 million between January 2013 and December 2015.

"Beverly Place's owner did not administer its project-based Section 8 program in accordance with HUD regulations," the inspector general said. "Specifically, the owner billed HUD for at least 97 tenants who did not exist or whose income eligibility was either falsified or unsupported."

The inspector general noted that "nonexistent tenants" were ghost tenants who either never lived in the apartment building or were past tenants who had moved out.

Firing Sessions Is a Terrible Idea
[American Thinker] Donald Trump is a naturally polarizing figure. His bread and butter is brazen attacks on those who challenge him. As a media figure and as a business promoter, that worked well. As president, however, Trump needs to pick his fights carefully and avoid needless political bloodletting. Changing people in his administration when he feels that things have gone wrong suggests that he picked the wrong people to begin with, especially in the first six months of his administration.

In some cases, like Comey, a holdover from the Obama administration, Trump should have cleaned house right at the beginning of his term of office, when people naturally understand Trump's need to have his own people in key positions. When Trump gets rid of people who have been his supporters and who have interviewed for the job Trump gives them in his administration, it is a different matter.

Jeff Sessions was the first senator to endorse Trump in his run for the Republican nomination. Sessions is also a man who during his political career has stood up to the Establishment and done what he has believed to be the right thing even if it was not the most politically expedient. Sessions has a reputation among the Republican caucus in the Senate as a particularly honorable and decent man. He also gave up a safe Senate seat as a member of the majority party to serve on Trump's team.

If President Trump fires Attorney General Sessions or if Trump continues to harass Sessions with dumb tweets, then the president runs the risk of alienating honest, genuine Senate conservatives who are immune to threats from Trump but who can give him headaches and problems he cannot imagine.

Almost everything Trump does, except for executive orders, must go through the Senate ‐ legislation, appointments, and treaties. If Trump alienates conservative Republicans in the Senate, it is hard to see how he will be able to do anything during his term as president. Why should these senators trust Trump? Why should they believe he is really conservative, particularly if he taps Rudy Giuliani as the next attorney general, a decent man on the wrong side of nearly every social issue?

#1  I'm not entirely sure it's a 'terrible idea.'

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein spoke just hours after Trump tweeted out his latest attack on Sessions, faulting the attorney general for "a VERY weak position on Hillary Clinton crimes...& Intel leakers!"

Link to the above.

#2  I went through the article at the link and it's all about what Sessions did for trump and that Sessions' friends can do to Trump. Not a single word about Sessions' performance as an AG. Curious.

#4  Sessions has a reputation among the Republican caucus in the Senate as a particularly honorable and decent man

Talk about a low bar.

If President Trump fires Attorney General Sessions or if Trump continues to harass Sessions with dumb tweets, then the president runs the risk of alienating honest, genuine Senate conservatives who are immune to threats from Trump but who can give him headaches and problems he cannot imagine.

Trump has been trying to get more of the conservative agenda through than any President since Reagan.

If Senate cons won't support him out of pique, them they're useless (or inimical) and should be replaced.

#5  Ima about done with Trump. I guess we have staff or cabinet meetings via dumbazz "tweets" now a days where the President of the USA berates his AG in front of all. He smears a good man like Sessions in the NYT no less just days after he gives the press exactly what they want by running off Spicer...and replacing him with a slicky boy wealthy liberal NY banker. Sessions and Spicer are both solid conservatives that were fighting Pelosi in the trenches in 2010-2011 and defeated her...while Scaramucci was raising funds for Obama and the dems.

This type of behavior by Trump does not pay well in the South. I and most everyone I know voted for Trump and after this week most folks down here refer to him as an idiot. Trumo needs to STFU and build the wall.

#6  then the president runs the risk of alienating honest, genuine Senate conservatives

Just wondering - when they had dinner a few months ago, did Trump ever apologize to Ted Cruz for massively insulting Heidi Cruz? By my count, Ted's probably one of the few friends Trump has in the Senate.

#8  I will believe in Sessions when he fires his department's lawyers who went after the Sisters of the Poor. A case that is still in motion from his office. Or when he make delay murderers of the VA, not to forget the IRS and Comney,,, do the happy dance perp walks to the closest Federal prison.

Raj Why should Trump ever apologize to Cruz? The first insult was fired at by the Texas lobbyist and Cruz operative Andrea McWilliams. Enter Liz Mair's super PAC "Make America Awesome". She was working out of Cruz supporter Carly Fionia's same PO box and started sending out fliers about Mrs. Trump to upcoming states. Did Teddy apologize for that? Hell no.

Anyone remember weasel Ted's voter intimidation fliers he sent out in Iowa? I mean come on, talk about shades of Obammer's IRS.

Deep State confirms: It's all about 'We the people government'
[American Thinker] Deep in the Colorado mountains each year is the Aspen Security Forum, a Washington, D.C. establishment gab-fest for discussing "critical issues" of national security and intelligence. Trump Russian collusion and Russian hacking of the election are likely to be hot topics of discussion, either formally or over delicious lunches of Colorado lamb or fresh Rocky Mountain trout.
All powerful people need a place to get away, to think, and plan for the future.
Who is doing the discussing and moderating at this "nonpartisan venue"? Such paragons of "nonpartisan" dialogue as Representative Adam Schiff, NBC's Andrea Mitchell, CNN's Wolf Blitzer, and plenty of others, all of whom would feel quite at home at a Washington, D.C. dinner party. Admittance is allowed only with a membership card from "The Establishment Club," also known as the "He-Man Trump-Hater Club," initially started by the Little Rascals but now morphed into an adult club.

One of the panel discussions, moderated by nonpartisan Wolf Blitzer, featured two nonpartisan Obama administration Deep Staters, John Brennan and James Clapper. Discussing one of the Trump stories of the day, that Trump may fire special counsel Robert Mueller, Brennan bromanced Mueller by saying, "It was an inspired choice ‐ they don't come any better." Of course it was a great choice. They are on the same team ‐ the "destroy Trump at any cost team." This is preaching to a bunch of like-minded NeverTrumps in Aspen.

CIA Gives More Power to Spies to Bolster Intelligence Operations
[Free Beacon] The Central Intelligence Agency under President Trump is giving more authority to field operatives and cutting excessive bureaucracy in a bid to boost intelligence operations, CIA Director Mike Pompeo says.

In his first news interview since taking charge of the agency in January, Pompeo also said he believes America's greatest long-term security challenge is the threat posed by China, not Russia.

During a wide-ranging interview on the sidelines of a security conference in Aspen, Colo., Pompeo revealed the CIA is preparing intelligence options for the president, including covert action, for use against North Korea in efforts to counter the threat of a future nuclear missile attack.

He also outlined how the CIA is stepping up counterintelligence programs against foreign spies and leaks of intelligence.

Other disclosures by the CIA chief included new details of North Korea's drive to develop reliable strategic nuclear missiles and a renewed CIA focus on stealing foreign secrets.

"Look, our primary mission is foreign intelligence," Pompeo told the Washington Free Beacon.

"That is at the core of what we do, and so the ability to go collect against the most difficult places, the most difficult targets in a way that is not one off, that is deep and robust and redundant, is something this agency is really good at when they are allowed to do it. And the president is going to go let us do it."

Similar to the Pentagon shift in giving military commanders greater authority to act in the field, the CIA is unleashing its spying power--clandestine operations, intelligence analysis, and technical prowess.

The CIA chief said decentralizing spying authority presents both risks and promise.

"In nearly every one of those cases it increases the risk level," he said. "It also greatly enhances the likelihood you'll achieve the outcome you're looking for."

The shift followed an internal agency review earlier this year that identified several areas where the CIA needed new guidance, or CIA activities that are allowed under law but had been restricted under President Barack Obama's administration, Pompeo said.

The CIA director said he meets regularly with Trump during intelligence briefings and noted that the president has been very supportive of agency reforms aimed at improving CIA operations.

A former Army officer who until January was a Republican member of the House, Pompeo said the two most immediate security threats are Islamic State terrorists fleeing the Middle East and North Korea's aggressive effort to field long-range missiles with nuclear warheads that can strike the United States.

Breitbart Sedition Update: The Great Puppeteer Counter-revolt of 2017
[Breitbart] Last year, the marionettes rebelled. Naturally, the Great Puppeteer Counter-revolt of 2017 followed.
"I think it’s the obligation of some executive branch officials to refuse to carry that out," former CIA director John Brennan said of the possibility of Donald Trump firing special counsel Robert Mueller. "I would just hope that this is not going to be a partisan issue. That Republicans, Democrats are going to see that the future of this government is at stake and something needs to be done for the good of the future."

Leaving aside the imprudence of the president firing the man investigating his campaign’s alleged ties to Russian interference in the 2016 election, Trump certainly possesses the right to dismiss Mueller. Unelected people who work for the man elected president do not possess the right to thwart the legal directives of their boss.

The American people, after all, elected Trump. Rod Rosenstein elected Mueller.

A fine line exists between anonymous, unelected, unaccountable government officials undermining the president’s legal directives and such people working to overturn the results of last year’s election. One might argue the two as one in the same differing only in degree.

Did the Russians meddle in our electoral process in 2016 or do entrenched bureaucrats do so on a constant basis? How one answers that question dictates one’s response to this current controversy.

November’s results, one might think, would have sparked epiphanies. Americans voted for a populist outsider to, in his words, "drain the swamp." Brennan’s words indicate that the swamp thrives six months after inauguration. The election neither hastened the drain nor chastened the creatures from the swamp. As the late, great Stan Evans oft reflected, people go to Washington imagining it a swamp only to soon regard it as a hot tub. Who wants to vacate a hot tub?

A self-flattering interpretation by the puppeteers imagines Trump voters as Pap Finns resentful of the mere existence of the edumacated elites. Cultural tics surely explain part of this divide. But more so do frustrations with votes repeatedly resulting in policies unwanted by voters. Brennan encouraging employees of the executive branch to subvert the executive comes off as too analogous to the unelected continually sabotaging the will of the electorate that directly caused Trump’s election. Trump’s supporters certainly see it this way. This fight is an extension of the overall fight that colored the presidential election.

McCain: ‘Stop Listening to the Bombastic Loudmouths on the Radio, Bombastic Loudmouths on the Radio, Television and the Internet’ — ‘To Hell With Them’
[Breitbart] Tuesday on the Senate floor, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) gave a speech upon returning from Arizona after having an emergency craniotomy to remove a blood clot and a subsequent diagnosis of cancer.

McCain cast the deciding vote to begin the health care debate and chided both sides for not being bipartisan over the last several years, saying, "I voted for the motion to proceed to allow debate to continue and amendments to be offered. I will not vote for this bill as it is today."

McCain said, "I hope we can again rely on humility, on our need to cooperate, on our dependence on each other, to learn how to trust each other again, and by so doing, better serve the people who elected us. Stop listening to the bombastic loudmouths on the radio, television and the internet. To hell with them. They don’t want anything done for the public good. Our incapacity is their livelihood."

Mansour appealed for a "continuation of all efforts to restore the historic status quo at al-Aqsa mosque compound" and said "this requires the lifting of all measures in violation of the status quo."

Five Paleostinians have been killed in festivities sparked by the new Israeli security measures at the al-Aqsa Mosque compound.

Khadija stabbing case: Court refuses to delete attempted murder clause
[DAWN] A judicial magistrate at Cantonment Courts on Monday dismissed five different applications filed by the prosecution and defence in Khadija Siddiqui stabbing case, including one for cancellation of attempted murder clause in the FIR.

Ms Siddiqui, a law student, was allegedly attacked by her class fellow, Shah Husain, on May 3, 2016, near Shimla Hill where she along with her driver had gone to pick her younger sister from school.

Both sisters were about to get into their car when helmet-wearing suspect attacked Khadija with a knife and stabbed her 23 times leaving her critically injured.

Civil Lines police had started the paperwork but haven't done much else against Shah Husain on charges of attempted murder. The suspect is happened to be son of a lawyer, Tanvir Hashmi.

During the trial proceedings on Monday, the defence counsel requested the court in writing that the offence of attempted murder should be deleted from the FIR. He also asked the court to summon a prosecution witness again for cross-examination.

Syrian Army intercepts big weapons shipment to jihadists in western Qalamoun – Pictures
[AlMasdar] Syrian military authorities have intercepted a large weapons and ammunition shipment that was destined for Ha’yat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) snuffies in western Qalamoun.

Sources say that the arms shipment originated from central Syria and contained thousands of bullets and dozens of anti-tank guided missiles (ATGM).

No specific details exist to how exactly the illegal arms transferal was intercepted by the SAA, however it is known that the would-be smugglers attempted to move the weapons and ammunition via pickup trucks in areas without government checkpoints during late night hours.

The HTS forces in western Qalamoun to which the shipment was bound are currently embattled against both the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and Hezbollah who greatly outnumber and outgun the jihadists. The SAA and Hezbollah have recently initiated hostilities in this region in an attempt to expel HTS from its last string footholds along the Syrian-Lebanese border.

Afghanistan
28 Taliban Bad Guys die in airstrike in Faryab
At least 28 Taliban insurgents were killed in an Afghan security forces airstrike in Kohistan district of northern Faryab province on Monday afternoon, local officials confirmed Tuesday.

In addition, six other insurgents were wounded.

The airstrike was launched a day after Taliban insurgents took control of the district from security forces.

"Seven Taliban local commanders are also among the dead,” a spokesman for Shaheen 209 Military Corps Nasratullah Jamshidi said.

“Soon we will launch a military operation to re-capture the district,” Jamshidi said.

However, he did not provide further details.

On Monday, local officials said that at least 60 security force members were under siege by the Taliban in the district.

Kohistan district fell to the Taliban early Sunday after heavy clashes between security forces and insurgents.

“Thirty army special forces, 20 soldiers and 10 national policemen have been surrounded by the insurgents in Khair Abad village which is 1.5 kilometers far from center of the district since yesterday,” a spokesman for the provincial governor, Abdul Karim Youresh said Monday.

“The clashes still continue in the area and the Taliban have told the tribal elders that if the security forces do not surrender to them, they will kill them all,” Youresh said.

He said that 130 residents who were helping security forces in their battle to hold off the Taliban had surrendered to the insurgents. However, their commander managed to escape and fled to Ghor after the district’s collapse.

On Monday, Russian Arclight airstrikes destroyed outposts and command centers for the al-Qaeda-affiliate Hay’at Tagrir al-Sham in Irbeen town located to the east of the capital, killing and injuring scores including high-ranking commanders.

Local activists also confirmed that the Arclight airstrikes targeted ammunition depots for Faylaq al-Rahman; an Islamist group active in Eastern Ghouta and a close ally for the HTS.

Meanwhile,
...back at the hanging, Butch continued with his last words, trying not to repeat himself too often......
the Syrian Army troops continue its large-scale operation against the two abovementioned groups in Jobar and Ayn Tarma to the northeast of Damascus.

Pro-Syria forces make significant advance against ISIS in central Homs
[AlMasdar] Albeit slow and partial, the offensive by pro-government forces against ISIS in central Homs does in fact continue. Today, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and its allies liberated a town and secured some key hilltops from the terrorist group in the region.

The settlement liberated today was the town of al-Baghliyah. After this pro-government forces, capitalizing on the capture of al-Baghliyah, advanced into the hills nearby, securing some high points that overlook another settlement, the town of Rasm Hamadah.

As a result of today’s advance, the town of Rasm Hamadah itself is soon expected to be liberated by the SAA and its allies as they have fire control over it.

Today’s advanced was covered by Russian attack helicopters which targeted ISIS vehicle movements in the area. This indicates that the command of the Russian air group is itself still interested in the central Homs, east Hama operation.

The premier SAA formation spearheading the offensive in central Homs is the 5th Assault Corps and, as can thus be expected, it was the main force behind today’s advance.

Deir Ezzor: Syrian and Russian jets pound, while the Syrian army takes territory
No mercy for ISIL terrorists in Deir Ezzor as Syrian, Russian jets hammer away

[AlMasdar] The Islamic State (ISIL) got a rough start to the day on Tuesday, thanks in large part to the Syrian and Russian jets that were stalking their positions in the Deir Ezzor Governorate.

Syrian and Russian jets flying out of the Homs Governorate began the day by pounding the Islamic State’s positions in the Panorama area and Al-Hawiqah District.

Following their airstrikes on these sites, the Russian and Syrian air forces turned their attention to the eastern sector of the provincial capital and Al-Jafra village near the Deir Ezzor Military Airport.

According to a military source at the 137th Artillery Brigade’s HQ, the Syrian and Russian air forces carried out more than 15 airstrikes this morning, causing heavy damage to the Islamic State’s defenses.

Among the targeted sites for the Syrian and Russian air forces was an ammunition depot near the Al-Baghiliyah District; this supply depot would ultimately destroyed during the bombardment, the source added.

Syrian Army recaptures more villages en route to Deir Ezzor

[AlMasdar] With the Syrian Army marching on the eastern city of Deir Ezzor, more villages and towns are being liberated amid massive ISIS collapse.

Today, the SAA’ Tiger Forces, backed by tribal fighters, took over Huwayjat Shinan town located to the east of Dalha along the western back of the Euphrates.

Meanwhile, fierce clashes broke out between the Army troops and ISIS militants in Nuzayzah and Rajm as-Sulayman towns; both situated to the east of Salam Alaykum town which was fully recaptures yesterday.

Raqqa reconquest: Kurds hold the line, while the Syrian army gobbles up more villages in the south
Kurdish-led forces fling back huge ISIS counterattack in Raqqa

[AlMasdar] The US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have repelled a huge Islamic State counterattack against their positions in the southeastern districts of Raqqa city.

For a localized counterattack, the number of men ISIS threw into the battle was exceptionally high and so badly beaten back were the terrorist group’s forces by the end of the assault that when the dust settled it had lost 35 fighters killed in action. Furthermore, 90 percent of the Hisham Ibn Abdulmalik neighborhood is now under SDF control as the Islamic State has been forced to cede certain points it held prior to the attack.

A spokeswoman for the SDF said that ISIS attacked the alliance group’s positions across several districts, including the neighborhoods of Hisham Ibn Abdulmalik, al-Bareed and al-Rodah, clarifying that the SDF were able to kill more than 30 militants, eleven of which were neutralized in the Nazlt Shahada area alone.

Whilst the SDF has not disclosed its own casualties, trusted sources of Al-Masdar News say the US-backed alliance group has lost some 30 fighters dead over the last five days.

Tiger Forces plough through ISIS in southern Raqqa, liberate several strategic sites

[AlMasdar] The elite Tiger Forces of the Syrian Arab Army, after liberating Huwayjat Shinan early yesterday, have since followed up their advance in southeastern Raqqa Governorate by securing several new strategic locations en route to the strategic city of Deir Ezzor and killing scores of ISIS militants in the process.

Late yesterday afternoon, the Tiger Forces, sweeping across the central desert expanses of Syria, liberated the al-Jarayeh oil field area which is located to the south of the town of Ghanm al-Ali town.

Following this, the Tiger Firces also liberated the village of Nuzayzah to the north of the recently captured village of al-Salaam Alaikum.

All in all, yesterday’s operation by the Tiger Forces resulted in the death of some 30 or so ISIS militants and the destruction of two vehicle-borne improvised explosive devices (VBIEDs).

Syrian Army foils ISIS attack in east Hama, resumes advance
[AlMasdar] The Syrian government troops repelled a major assault launched by the Islamic State on Jadeed Fritan hill in the eastern countryside of Hama.

A military source said that at least 15 militants were killed and injured in the failed attack.

Meanwhile, the Army troops – backed by the Palestinian al-Quds Brigade and local fighters – resumed the offensive aimed to recapture the ISIS-held Qualib al-Thor town.

The government forces managed to seize a strategic hill that overlooks the town, thus opening the way for more significant advances inside the town.

The same town was almost entirely captured by the Syrian Army, but was forced to withdraw following a fierce counterattack by the Islamic State militants.

More rebels surrender to Syrian Army in north Hama

[AlMasdar] A group of rebel fighters have turned themselves in to the Syrian authorities in the northern countryside of Hama as the government promotes reconciliation agreements across the country.

The surrendered militants have made it to a joint Syrian-Russian checkpoint carrying the safety access leaflets dropped earlier by Army helicopters over the rebel-controlled areas in Hama and Idlib.

The Syrian government, in collaboration with the Russian Center for Reconciliation, is encouraging militants to engage in reconciliation deals and have their status settled in order to restore their normal lives.

Texas Congressman (D): 'I Would Bulldoze the Existing Wall' at the Border
[PJMEDIA] Rep. Filemon Vela (D-Texas) said today that the idea of finishing the U.S.-Mexico border wall is "obsolete" and that the U.S. government should tear down the existing fencing.

"The important thing to remember is Mexico is an ally, not an enemy. Our two countries share tremendous economic, cultural and social ties. The idea that we would ever have thought about building a fence or a wall between these two countries is just very difficult to believe. To me, a wall is a fence and a fence is a wall," Vela said during a presser alongside other House Democrats on Capitol Hill.

Double-layer fencing is present in some sections of the southern border while other areas have a vehicle barrier or no fencing. Spending bills that are being considered in the House include funding for building about 70 miles of the border barrier.

Vela said President Reagan called for tearing down the Berlin Wall because it was a "bad idea," so Congress should do the same with the existing fencing along the U.S.-Mexico border.

"The idea of building a wall between the two Germanys was a bad idea and that’s why he decided to tear it down," Vela said. "We are going to vote against these measures, but if it was up to me I would bulldoze the existing wall."

Rep. Pete Aguilar (D-Calif.) argued that spending taxpayer funds on expanding the barriers at the border is wasteful.

"This bill should be about funding defense priorities, not cleaning up after Trump’s failures," he said.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Jordan releases security footage of shooting of 3 US troops
[AlAhram] Jordan's military released security camera footage Monday of a shooting in which a Jordanian soldier killed three U.S. military trainers at an air base in the kingdom.

The video had previously been shown to the families of the U.S. Army Green Berets by U.S. law enforcement but had not been made public until Monday.

The soldiers were killed Nov. 4 when their convoy came under fire at the entrance to the al-Jafr base in southern Jordan.

A Jordanian military court sentenced the soldier, 1st Sgt. Marik al-Tuwayha, to life in prison with hard labor last week.

The defendant had said he opened fire because he feared the base was coming under attack and that he had acted in line with open-fire regulations.

Jordan's military said in a statement Monday that the soldier "had acted against orders and military instructions and had not acted in self-defense."

The statement was posted by Hala Akhbar, a news site linked to the military that also released the security camera footage.

Jordan initially said the Americans triggered the shooting by disobeying entry rules, a claim that was later withdrawn.

The victims of the shooting were Staff Sgt. Matthew C. Lewellen, 27, of Kirksville, Missouri; Staff Sgt. Kevin J. McEnroe, 30, of Tucson, Arizona; and Staff Sgt. James F. Moriarty, 27, of Kerrville, Texas.

The 6-minute-long video was in line with descriptions previously given by the relatives of the American soldiers who had watched the footage.

It shows the U.S. convoy coming under fire at the entrance to the base. The footage has no sound, but puffs of white-gray smoke indicate gunfire.

At one point, two figures, U.S. forces, are seen getting out of their vehicles to take cover. They raise their hands and wave from behind a barrier, but the shooting continues. Another figure, according to past descriptions the Jordanian, chases them and keeps shooting.

According to the descriptions of the relatives, Lewellen and McEnroe, who were in the first vehicle waiting at the gate, were the first to be hit by gunfire.

Moriarty and another soldier jumped out of the next two cars to take cover and returned fire with their pistols. They yelled that they were friendly forces, the relatives said.

The defendant kept shooting, they said. He was seriously maimed in the exchange.

Hezb-e-Islami says no agreement reached for political role in the government
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The Hezb-e-Islami led by Gulbuddin Hekmatyar

-Short Attention Span Theater-
For Commodore Frank
[RoadAndTrack] Ford is pursuit rating all the things lately; it even applied the cop-readiness moniker to a Fusion hybrid earlier this year. Now comes a far different pursuit machine, based on the 2018 F-150.
Drink up!
In both cases, the term "pursuit rated" is better viewed as a measure of each machine's ability to slide into typical patrol duty more than any notion of chasing down baddies at triple-digit speeds. Besides, this F-150 can only reach 100 mph. Need we list the number of modern cars capable of 101?

As such, Ford rightly has positioned its latest creation to appeal to rural cops, fish-and-game outfits, and the border patrol. The truck's 375-hp, twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 and four-wheel drive make it perfect for towing up to 7000 pounds of, say, nautical patrol vehicles or for crawling around off-road. Its rugged steel frame, underbody skid plates, and FX4 off-road suspension should give it pothole- and curb-jumping abilities similar to those of other "pursuit rated" vehicles.

Other cop-specific items include a vinyl-covered rear seat that's easily, er, washed, as well as special cloth front seats with anti-stab plates to protect front-seat officers from back-seat attackers. The gauge cluster includes engine-hour and idle-hour meters, the shifter is on the steering column, and a 240-amp alternator helps power the numerous lights and electronics used in modern police cars. To aid the F-150's stopping and turning abilities, Ford fits upgraded brake calipers and pads and a new front anti-roll bar.

Just a word of warning: If you see one of these towing a boat for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, don't assume they can't pull you over for speeding. Just trust us on that one.

Duterte halts military operations in Marawi
[PhilStar] Philippine president Rodrigo Duterte has suspended the military offensive in Marawi, citing concerns over the safety of some 300 civilians being held by Islamic rebels still holed up in some parts of the besieged city. His instructions came on the heels of Congress’ vote to allow the extension of martial law in Mindanao until the end of the year.

The safety of the civilians, he pointed out, is the primary consideration of government security forces. He said, "I don’t care if they are Moros or Christians. I don’t want these innocents to be slaughtered so hintay lang tayo (let’s just wait). Patience."

Duterte admitted that the Marawi crisis “has dealt a terrible blow to our quest for peace, especially now that an alien ideology and a radical shift in purpose have been injected into the local setting.”

“I declared martial law in Mindanao because I believed that that was the fastest way to quell the rebellion at the least cost of lives and properties. At the same time, the government would be adequately equipped with the constitutional tool not only to prevent the escape of rebels who can easily mingle and pretend to be civilian evacuees only to re-group in another place to fight another day, but also to prevent them from spreading their gospel of hate and violence in the rest of Mindanao,” Duterte said.

Senate body asks IIUI administration to vacate Faisal Mosque's premises
[DAWN] Taking notice of the alleged occupation of Faisal Mosque by International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI), the Senate Standing Committee on Cabinet Secretariat on Tuesday asked the IIUI authorities to vacate the premises.

In a meeting of the Senate committee, chaired by Senator Talha Mehmood, Deputy Director of Faisal Mosque Mohammad Tahir said that IIUI administration had forcefully occupied the grand mosque's premises even though they were allotted the land for a limited period.

Tahir further said that IIUI has refused to vacate the mosque's premises even though the university administration was allocated 700 acre land by Capital Development Authority, (CDA) where a campus has already been built.

The mosque's deputy director alleged that the IIUI administration was receiving funds from the Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
's government in the name of Faisal Mosque.

The university administration has established its offices in what was the mosque's cafeteria and opened a store in the space reserved for aitekaf, Tahir said. "IIUI has also illegally opened a hostel in the premises as well."

He further complained that IIUI has even taken over the mosque's bookshop.

The members of the Senate committee expressed their displeasure and inquired from the CDA officials present at the session that why the university was not made to vacate the mosque's premises after they had been allotted land of their own.

The committee instructed CDA officials to ensure that the IIUI administration evacuates Faisal Mosque's premises as soon as possible. The committee has also summoned HEC Chairman Mukhtar Ahmed to appear in committee's next session.

However,
alcohol has never solved anybody's problems. But then, neither has milk...
no one from the university administration was present at the meeting.

Afghanistan
30 thousand Afghans fighting in Syria and Iraq wars, says Hekmatyar
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The leader of Hezb-e-Islami Gulbuddin Hekmatyar
... who used to be known in intelligence circles as The Most Evil Man in the World but who now seems merely run-of-the-mill evil...
says at least thirty thousand Afghans have been deployed to Syria and Iraq to fight in the ongoing conflicts.

Speaking during a presser in Kabul, Hekmatyar said the Afghan nationals are being used for very less incentives by the outsiders to fight in Syria and Iraq as he expressed concern
...meaning the brow was mildly wrinkled, the eyebrows drawn slightly together, and a thoughtful expression assumed, not that anything was actually done or indeed that any thought was actually expended...
s regarding the ongoing violence in country saying the war has been imposed on Afghanistan from outside.

Hekmatyar further added that the outsiders are seeking their interests by fueling insurgency in the country while using the Afghan nationals for the conflicts outside the country.

He said the value of the blood of the Afghan people is considered even less than the value of the oil.

This comes as certain Afghan politicians said last year that the Afghan nationals are forced to participate in the wars in Iraq and Syria mainly due to the poverty.

The politicians are saying that the Afghan nationals are migrating to Iran for work but instead some of them are deployed to Syria and Iraq under the pretext of holy war.

The Human Rights Watch had earlier said that Iran has deployed thousands of Afghan nationals to Syria to participate in the conflict.

In the meantime, Hekmatyar called for unity among the people, insisting that only national unity could help to bring peace and stability in the country when people in different parts of the country say no to violence.

He also added that his party will never seek incentives or share in the government but emphasized that they will continue with the national efforts for peace and reconciliation.

U.S. Navy ship fires warning shots near Iranian vessel
[REUTERS] A U.S. Navy ship fired warning shots when an Iranian vessel in the Gulf came within 150 yards (137 meters) on Tuesday in the first such incident since President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
took office in January, U.S. officials said.

The last major incident was earlier in January, though there have been instances when a U.S. vessel fired a flare as well as an event in March when a U.S. Navy ship was forced to change course after multiple fast-attack vessels from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard came too close.

In a statement, U.S. Naval Forces Central Command said the patrol craft, named Thunderbolt, fired the warning shots in front of the Iranian vessel after it ignored radio calls, flares and the ship's whistle.

The Iranian vessel was from Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), the statement said, adding that it stopped its unsafe approach after the warning shots were fired.

A U.S. official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said the Iranian boat was armed but that the weapons were unmanned. The Thunderbolt was accompanied by a number of other vessels, including those from the U.S. Coast Guard.

One of the wounded, Edmond Sahakyan, a lawyer, a veteran and volunteer in the war in southeastern Ukraine, said that the meet was set up to discuss apartment construction in Dnepropetrovsk with a well known local businessman.

Among those shot was Sahakyan's brother, Edward Sahakyan, whom Sahakyan said was the cause of the meet.

The local businessman who had built the apartment for Edward Sahakyan was identified as Sholom Nakhshon, a well known Jewish community leader in Dnepropetrovsk.

According to the report in Russkaya Vesna, Nakhshon had demanded payment for an apartment he built for Edward, which apparently had not been paid by the time of the meet. The report said that total of the bill was USD $119,000.

According to the article, after some blood was splayed over the door 10 days before at his brother's apartment, Sahakyan called and set up a meeting to resolve the issue, to which Nakhshon agreed.

The meeting was friendly at first, and Nakhshon even appeared there, but later things became heated and a car with the shooters appeared. One of the shooters at the outset of the meeting shoved a revolver into Sahakyan's gut and issued a verbal death threat. Another shooter had a short barreled AKS-74 rifle, known as the Krinkov. Sahakyan said that Nakhshon appeared to be surprised when the shooting started.

The shooting began when Sahakyan left the meeting to get a rifle, which was identified as a Vulcan .44 Magnum pump-action carbine, which was in his car. When he opened the truck he was fired on, by a shooter with an AK-74 rifle from one side and a shotgun from the other. Sahakyan was hit four times.

According to Sahakyan, all six men were veterans in the civil war in southeastern Ukraine.

Video of the shooting can be seen here.

US anti-missile defense system failed 'because sailor accidentally pressed the SELF-DESTRUCT button on the interceptor missile'

- The test, on June 21, was the fourth for the new SM-3 Block IIA interceptor rocket

- The SM-3, launched from a ship, detonated before it reached the target missile

- A review has ruled out technological errors, and puts the blame on a sailor

- They marked the target missile as 'friendly,' triggering trhe [sic] SM-3's self-destruct

- The ongoing investigation hasn't yet explained why they made that error

- The missiles are a US-Japan co-development in the face of North Korea's threats

What terrifies the left that instead of just shrugging our shoulders and thinking that blacks are just bad, we will now ask the logical question of, "Why is it just blacks doing this?"

Bombing kills one Thai policeman, injures another
This one happened almost a week ago, but it ain't official until Rantburg sez so.
[The Nation] A Thai policeman was killed and another was seriously wounded when Muslim rebels attacked a police checkpoint in Narathiwat province early on Thursday morning. The attack happened in Tambon Palukasamoh in Bacho district.

The two officers were sitting and resting inside the police booth when an unknown number of militants hurled six pipe bombs against the police booth. Two of the bombs landed on the roof of the booth and one of them exploded.

The four other bombs fell on the roof of an adjacent house and outside the fenced area. The bombs that fell outside the fenced area did not explode.

Police foil minor girl's marriage to 33-year-old man in Umerkot
[DAWN] Police raided a marriage ceremony in Sindh's Umerkot district late Monday night, foiling a bid to marry off a minor girl with a 33-year-old man.

A police team headed by Station House Officer (SHO) Vijay Khatri recovered the 11-year-old girl from the wedding ceremony in Umerkot's Bakhtawar Colony where she was due to marry Ahmed Arisar, a man thrice her age.

Police took the minor girl into custody and tossed in the calaboose
Drop the rosco, Muggsy, or you're one with the ages!
the groom, while others present at the scene managed to flee.

The groom's mother, who belonged to Rantnor village of Thar, told the police that her family had "purchased the girl" by paying Rs130,000 to the girl's father, Qadir Bux.
That's US$1,234.17. Pakistani rupees aren't worth much nowadays. Were the sum in Indian rupees, the girl would have been worth $2,017.10.
"We are not aware of any law that prohibits underage marriage," she claimed.
Now you know, though it's a law more honoured in the breach, like so much els in Pakistan.
Police on behalf of the state registered a First Information Report (FIR) under sections 2, 3 and 4 of the Sindh Child Marriages Restraint Act, 2013 against eight people, including the fathers of both the minor girl and the groom, the nikah khawan Moulvi Qurban Ali Halepoto, and four other people of the Arisar community who had "brokered the deal".

ASG bomb expert arrested; 6 Abus bolt Sulu jail
[NEWS.MB.PH] A notorious gunner and bomb expert of the Sulu-based Abu Sayyaf
...also known as al-Harakat al-Islamiyya, an Islamist terror group based in Jolo, Basilan and Zamboanga. Since its inception in the early 1990s, the group has carried out bombings, kidnappings, murders, head choppings, and extortion in their uniquely Islamic attempt to set up an independent Moslem province in the Philippines. Abu Sayyaf forces probably number less than 300 cadres. The group is closely allied with remnants of Indonesia's Jemaah Islamiya and has loose ties with MILF and MNLF who sometimes provide cannon fodder...
Group (ASG) under top leader Radullan Sahiron and another ASG member were tossed in the calaboose
Maw! They're comin' to get me, Maw!
as a result of the intensified operations of the military and police against the terrorist group.

Composite elements of the Joint Task Force Tawi-Tawi and the Provincial Police Office of Tawi-Tawi neutralized Abu Sayyaf and kidnap-for-ransom member Ibno Moro in Barangay Kamagong, Bongao, Tawi-Tawi at around 10:30 a.m. Saturday.

Moro, who has a standing warrant of arrest for murder, was a member of the late sub-leader Jul Asman Sawadjaan who operated in Tawi-Tawi and Sulu.

Ranked as the Number 8 Most Wanted in the province of Tawi-Tawi, Moro was involved in the 1989 massacre in Barangay Lapid-Lapid, Bongao; 2002 kidnapping of Alvin Chua at the Chinese Pier in Bongao; 2004 kidnapping of Sibuto Mayor Kuyoh Pajiji of Sibutu; and 2004 murder of Rodrigo Alejandro Sr. and his son, Rodrigo Alejandro, Jr., in Barangay Buan, Panglima Sugala.

"This is another operational feat attributable to the efforts of our troops on the ground and the police," Lieutenant General Carlito G. Galvez, Jr., the Commander of the Western Mindanao Command, said.

"Given the key involvement of Moro in various kidnappings perpetrated by the Tawi-Tawi based Abu Sayyaf members, the neutralization of the notorious bandit is deemed a big blow on the Abu Sayyaf and kidnap for ransom group, which has faced substantial loss as a result of our intensified operations," he added.

Trump's Voter Fraud Commission Needs to Tackle Miami's Absentee Ballot Racket
[MIAMINEWTIMES] More than 30 states have provided their residents’ personal information to Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
’s voter fraud commission, which is charged with digging up proof that millions of Americans voted illegally in last year’s presidential election and robbed the billionaire real-estate developer of the popular vote.

In true Trump fashion, the president has called out states that have defied the commission’s requests. "If any state does not want to share this information," he tweeted, "one has to wonder what they’re worried about... There’s something. There always is."

The commission's chairman, Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach, has promised to compare the data collected from states against one another as well as federal databases for felons, undiscovered noncitizens, and people who vote in more than one state.

Trump is absolutely right that voter fraud takes place, but he's barking up the wrong tree. Instead of trying to suppress minorities from voting, the commission should take a hard look at the type of absentee ballot fraud that is practiced regularly in Miami during local, state, and federal elections. After all, the city set the standard for voter fraud when dead people cast ballots in the 1997 mayoral election.

From Little Havana to Hialeah to Sweetwater to Florida City, the absentee ballot fraud machines are still in effect. In the months leading to the 2012 general election, public corruption detectives uncovered a ring of Hialeah boleteros, slang for absentee ballot collectors, who were sneaking around old-folks homes and assisted-living facilities to ostensibly help senile seniors and handicapped welfare recipients fill out their ballots. Some low-level operatives went to jail, but law enforcement never caught the ringleaders.

A year later, police raided the business of then-North Miami Mayor Luci Tondreau’s office as part of an absentee ballot fraud investigation that eventually fizzled out. Meanwhile,
...back at the wine tasting, Vince was about to start on his third quart...
an absentee ballot fraud case involving a Leon County public school board race unraveled when prosecutors were forced to drop charges against seven of nine defendants because of lack of evidence.

In March, a Palm Beach Post investigative report showed that Florida law still allows candidates and campaigns to manipulate voters who mail in their ballots, and that politicians have ignored warnings to reform the absentee ballot system, which represents nearly one of every three votes cast in the Sunshine State.

Just this week in Miami, an elderly woman pleaded guilty to voter fraud after she was caught casting votes in favor of Raquel Regalado on mailed-in absentee ballots in last November's county mayoral election.

Austria Jails Hamas Suspect for Life over Terror Plot
[AnNahar] A Paleostinian man suspected of belonging to the Islamist group Hamas, the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood, has been given a life sentence in Austria for plotting a terror attack against Jews in Israel.

The 27-year-old, who was incarcerated
Drop the gat, Rocky, or you're a dead 'un!
at an asylum-seeker center in Lower Austria last July, was found guilty late Monday of belonging to a terror organization and attempting to incite murder.

Prosecutors accused him of contacting two men in the Paleostinian territories via social media apps and ordering them to carry out killings of Jews in Jerusalem.

Both accomplices were detained by Israeli authorities in June 2016, leading to the arrest of the alleged criminal mastermind the following month in the Austrian town of Gmuend.

Mobile phone messages exchanged between the trio revealed that the Paleostinian had told the other two men to throw "apples" -- a code word for hand grenades -- into crowds in Jerusalem, according to the Austrian prosecution.

He also apparently told witnesses testifying in the trial that he was "proud to be part of Hamas".

The man, who denies all charges and said he will appeal the conviction, had already been arrested at the age of 14 in Gazoo and served nine years in prison for violence against Israeli soldiers.
And in other Austrian news:
Austrian police: suspect denies talk of setting of a bomb

[AlAhram] Austrian police say they have found one of two suspects who allegedly discussed setting off a bomb in an Arabic conversation on a Vienna subway, but he denies any talk of a bomb.

Police say the man turned himself in after photos of him and a fellow suspect were published. The search for them was launched last week, when other passengers who understood Arabic notified police about the conversation after leaving the subway car. The train then was stopped and officers looked for the suspects but found no trace of them or a briefcase they were carrying.

One was allegedly overheard saying he had set "the bomb at five minutes." Police said Tuesday that the suspect claims the witnesses must have misheard their discussion.

Afghan security forces take district in Faryab
The Afghan security forces retook control of the center of Kohistan district in Faryab province at around 9pm on Tuesday.

Shaheen 209 Corps spokesman Nasratullah Jamshedi said the operation to retake the center of the district was launched on Tuesday morning.

He said more than 20 Taliban militants were killed in the operation.

Kohistan district, which fell to the Taliban over the weekend, is located 120 kilometers from Faryab’s capital Maimana city. It has 135 villages and a population of over 150,000.

It shares a border with Ghor, Badghis and Sar-e-Pul provinces in the west and northeastern parts of the country.

The district is also connected to Faryab’s Qaisar, Almar, Pashtoon Kot and Garziwan districts.

Deir Ezzor: Mother of all Battles (July 25, 2017)
There is an interesting video at the link. Herewith the transcript:
[AlMasdar] In the provinces of Raqqa and Homs, the Syrian Arab Army and its allies are engaged in a relentless high-pitched battle against the ISIS terrorist group. Unlike the US coalition who wishes to preserve ISIS in Syria as a future card against the Damascus-Tehran-Moscow alliance, the objective of pro-government forces is clear, absolute and simple ‐ for them ISIS, as the most fundamentally despotic and godforsaken entity to ever establish itself on Syrian soil, must be destroyed. With virtually all of the Syrian Army’s vanguard strength being directed against the so-called Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
to the effect of tens of thousands of troops and untold quantities of tanks and artillery ‐ and with ISIS itself now facing the very real possibility of being expelled from the country by the end of the year ‐ it appears that the perfect conditions for a Mother of all Battles are brewing in eastern Syria.

Over the last two weeks, pro-government forces ‐ most notably the Syrian Army’s elite Tiger Forces and the 5th Assault Corps ‐ have been rolling back the ISIS frontier in eastern Syria throughout a series of offensives. The inescapable focus of all the multi-front operations by the Syrian Army and its allies is the strategic city of Deir Ezzor which is now in its third year of besiegement at the hands of the so-called Islamic State.

In addition to now securing most of the mountain chains running between Palmyra and al-Sukhnah, the highlight of the 5th Assault Corps’s most recent push has been the liberation of the al-Hayl gas field ‐ a massive energy complex. The Tiger Forces for their part have reach the B’ir al-Zamlah road junction, the village of As-salaam Alaikum as wells as the towns of Dulhah and Huwayjat Shinan on the western bank of the Euphrates River. Furthermore, in-between these advances, the Tiger Forces have liberated dozens of oil wells, gas extraction points and energy facilities.

In response these ever-encroaching advances against it, ISIS has attempted to grind down pro-government forces by launching multiple raids south and east of Palmyra. Although these hit-and-run attacks have inflicted dozens of dead and maimed on pro-government forces, the Syrian Army and its allies have, in general, managed to successfully hold a solid front-line over the last several weeks, despite having to tactically withdraw at certain times under pressure from large ISIS raids.

As of yesterday, the Syrian Army High Command has sent massive reinforcements to back up the 5th Assault Corps in eastern Homs province. Among the newly-arrived forces are battle-hardened formations such as the 800th Regiment of the Elite Republican Guard, the 1st Armoured Division and the 3rd Armoured Division of the Syrian Arab Army. Such reinforcements are a clear indication that a new broad-front offensive sweep against ISIS is being prepared. To this end it can be expected that whilst the Tiger Forces drive on Deir Ezzor from the northern direction, the central front forces will focus on capturing al-Sukhnah whilst Syrian Army and allied formations in the south place additional pressure on ISIS to stretch the terrorist group’s military resources to breaking point.

The Beatings Will Continue: Iraqi Edition

Female ISIS leader skips town with cash
"Rio, here I come!"
Tal Afar (IraqiNews.com) A senior Islamic State female vigilante has fled the group’s stronghold in western Nineveh with huge sums of money, a local source in the province was quoted saying.

Alsumaria News quoted the source saying that the Islamic State’s leading “biter”, a foreign national, fled Hassan Qoi area, in the town of Tal Afar, to an unknown destination with a large amount of money in her possession.

Um Salma, so she was nicknamed, had been in charge of the female division of the hisba (morality police) service, said the source. She had been behind the fatal biting and strangling of several local women in Mosul, which she did based on sentences issued by the Islamic State’s judges, he added.

She had stolen large sums and fled, and the group launched a wide-scale search for her, according to the source.

Tal Afar, held by IS since 2014, has become the group’s most outstanding haven in Nineveh after militants lost their largest bastion, Mosul, to Iraqi forces earlier this month.

Since it proclaimed a so-called “caliphate” in Iraq and Syria in 2014, Islamic State assigned female vigilantism division that would levy punishments on women violating the group’s extremist codes of modesty. The biters, according to reports, would either literally bite the bodies of violating females ferociously or use iron clippers for the purpose.

ISIS immolates 10 for desertion

Tal Afar (IraqiNews.com) Islamic State executed ten members, including Arab leaders, in west of Mosul, a security source from the army’s Joint Operations Command was quoted saying.

“IS militants burnt the members to death in front of dozens of civilians and group fighters,” Brigadier General Mohamed al-Jabouri told BasNews on Tuesday. “The group informed the people that they were traitors who attempted fleeing.”

The militants included four Syrians and a Saudi national.

“The group burnt the members while being blindfolded and handcuffed,” Jabouri said.

The militants, according to Jabouri, blame their defeat in Mosul on treason and retreat by some leaders and fighters who breached their vows to the group and collaborated with security.

On Monday, news reports mentioned that the group executed one of its prominent doctors in Tal Afar and arrested all of his family members without providing details.

The group reportedly carried out emergency evacuations earlier this week at many of its main headquarters in the town over growing doubts on the people’s cooperation with security services.

A source was quoted earlier this month as saying that non-Iraqi IS militants executed the last local leader in Tal Afar and the town is currently run by Arab and foreign members after eliminating all the Iraqi leaders.

Tal Afar is one of the important strongholds still held by IS in Nineveh since August 2014.

7 ISIS wimmin detained in Samarra

Salahuddin (IraqiNews.com) Seven Islamic State (IS) female elements were arrested on Tuesday northwest of Samarra, Commander of Samarra Operations, Major General Emad al-Zuhairi, announced.

“The intelligence of the Samarra Operations managed today to capture seven IS female elements northwest of Samarra,” a statements said.

“The female elements were coming from Mosul towards Baghdad using fake identifications,” the statement added.

Security forces in Samarra had arrested many elements belonging to the IS terror group while attempting to sneak into southern governorates.

Earlier today, tens of IS militants were killed as Iraqi jets launched several airstrikes in Anbar province.

A statement by the Defense Ministry’s War Media Cell said Iraqi jets launched several airstrikes that left an IS rest house and a weapon stash destroyed.

Furthermore, 21 IS militants were killed on Tuesday in a military operation southwest of Iraq.

Iraqi troops were able to a return life back to normal in the biggest cities of Anbar including Fallujah, Ramadi and others after recapturing them. However, Anbar’s western cities of Annah, Qaim and Rawa are still held by the extremist group since 2014, when it emerged to proclaim a self-styled Islamic Caliphate.

There has not been an officially-declared military campaign to free those regions, but the province’s military command launched a brief assault early January that managed to recapture some western villages before stopping again.

Newly declassified memos detail extent of improper Obama-era NSA spying
[TheHill] The National Security Agency and Federal Bureau of Investigation violated specific civil liberty protections during the Obama years by improperly searching and disseminating raw intelligence on Americans or failing to promptly delete unauthorized intercepts, according to newly declassified memos that provide some of the richest detail to date on the spy agencies’ ability to obey their own rules.

The memos reviewed by The Hill were publicly released on July 11 through Freedom of Information Act litigation by the American Civil Liberties Union."
I am seriously conflicted about this organization.
They detail specific violations that the NSA or FBI disclosed to the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court or the Justice Department's national security division during President Obama’s tenure between 2009 and 2016. The intelligence community isn't due to report on compliance issues for 2017, the first year under the Trump administration, until next spring.

The NSA says that the missteps amount to a small number -- less than 1 percent -- when compared to the hundreds of thousands of specific phone numbers and email addresses the agencies intercepted through the so-called Section 702 warrantless spying program created by Congress in late 2008.

"Quite simply, a compliance program that never finds an incident is not a robust compliance program," said Michael T. Halbig, the NSA’s chief spokesman. "...The National Security Agency has in place a strong compliance program that identifies incidents, reports them to external overseers, and then develops appropriate solutions to remedy any incidents."

But critics say the memos undercut the intelligence community’s claim that it has robust protections for Americans incidentally intercepted under the program.

Parents fume over President Trump's controversial speech to Boy Scouts
[NZHERALD.CO.NZ] President Trump's latest speech has broken the golden rule of public speaking - know your audience - leading to fury over a highly politicised speech to a Jamboree of 40,000 Boy Scouts in West Virginia.

Fuming parents of the Scouts present took to social media after the controversial speech in which the President railed against "fake news" and the Washington "sewer".

"Tonight we put aside all of the policy fights in Washington, DC you've been hearing about with the fake news and all of that," he told the boys who were there for outdoor activities and to develop their leadership skills.

"You know, I go to Washington and I see all these politicians and I see the swamp and it's not a good place."

"In fact, today I said we ought to change it from the word 'swamp' to the word 'cesspool' or perhaps to the word 'sewer.' It's not good. I see what's going on and believe me, I'd much rather be with you, that I can tell you," he said.

The President heaped scorn on the "fake media" and said the size of the crowd would be incorrectly reported. He also referred to "this horrible thing known as Obamacare
... aka the Affordable Care Act, an ineptly designed and worse executed piece of legislation designed to bring 17 percent of the U.S. economy under the direct control of the government. The previous iteration, known as Hillarycare, was laughed out of Washington. This stinker was passed on a party-line vote without being read...
" and saw President B.O. - a former Boy Scout himself - booed by the audience.

The speech led to a swift backlash from some parents who said they thought it was contradicting the Boy Scout ethos of courtesy and respect.

"My son and I, along with others I am sure, will be dropping out of Scouts due to supporting behaviour that is contrary to the following Mission Statement," said Michael Christopher Stafford on the organization's Facebook page.

Jude Nevans wrote that she was "done with Scouts" after "you felt the need to have my kid listen to a liar stroke his ego on our time."

Darlington Braden said "Shame on you. You should have asked Trump to do a video address. You knew what would happen. This is on you, and now your organization is covered in Trump slime."

#5  The New Zealand Herald reports on an event that appeared to be very well-received by those in attendance.

"Controversial speech?" So, one person was found who was unhappy with the Scout Jamboree and chose to remove her son from scouting as evidenced by "My son and I, along with others I am sure...(really?)" How about this vague statement: "Fuming parents of the Scouts present took to social media." Shame on the NZ Herald for only reporting on those one-off few and not on the many. More fake news.

#6  Most of the results of a Google search were negative. The title of this one suggested balance.

Plenty of member of Trump’s audience were right there with him. They clapped when he insulted the press and the specific videographers at the event. They booed when Trump made a passing mention of Hillary Clinton during an extended rant about how thoroughly he won the presidential election. They chanted “USA!” when he said that former Boy Scout and current Secretary of Health and Human Services Tom Price is “helping to keep millions of Americans strong and healthy” by getting the Senate votes necessary to start “killing this horrible thing known as Obamacare that’s really hurting us.”

Maybe he knew his audience? Both the Scouts and the media.

The rest of the referenced article goes on about how the Girl Scouts are much better than the Boy Scouts and their heathen, knuckle-dragging leaders.

In January 1912, Baden-Powell (Hero of Mafeking and father of Scouting) was en route to New York on a Scouting World Tour, on the ocean liner SS Arcadian, when he met Olave St Clair Soames. She was 23, while he was 55; they shared the same birthday, 22 February. They became engaged in September of the same year, causing a media sensation due to Baden-Powell's fame. To avoid press intrusion, they married in private on 30 October 1912, at St Peter's Church in Parkstone.

Died 8 Jan 1941 at the ripe old age 83 at Nyeri, Kenya. Buried there as well. A Kenyan grave probably never visited by a man some call Soetoro.

Man attacks police on Morocco-Spain border
[AlAhram] A knife-wielding man shouting "Allahu Akbar" charged across the border between Morocco and Spain border on Tuesday, attacking and injuring a police officer, authorities said.

The man was subsequently detained, Spanish Interior Minister Juan Ignacio Zoido said.

"A man entered the border post and once inside, pulled out a large knife and confronted (police) shouting 'Allahu Akbar' (God is Greatest), slightly injuring a policeman," Irene Flores, spokeswoman for the central government's representative office in Melilla, told AFP.

A front man for Spanish police added he ran into the border post.

Melilla and its sister city Ceuta are two Spanish territories located on Morocco's northern coast, and as such represent the only two land borders between Africa and the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
They have been hit by unrest before as migrants colonists desperate to reach Europe regularly storm the border between both territories or try and smuggle themselves in, but this is the first attack of this type.

"The Libyan individuals and terrorist entities, affiliated with terrorist groups in Libya, have received substantial financial support from the Qatari authorities and played an active role in spreading chaos and devastation in Libya, despite serious international concern over the destructive impact of such practices". Afghanistan
Taliban takes 4th district in Paktia
The resurgent Taliban on Tuesday infiltrated Paktia’s Janikhail district as battles between the Afghan security forces and the militant group rage across multiple fronts in the country.

This also comes after the group’s deadly attack on Monday that killed over 36 civilians in Afghanistan’s capital Kabul.

The collapse of Janikhail marks the third consecutive victory by the militants in just four days.

Over the weekend, the Taliban launched major offensives on Taiwara district in Ghor and Kohistan district in Faryab province in the country’s west and northern parts respectively – seizing control of the strategic towns.

Defense Ministry Blames Pakistan
“Pressure has been mounted on the Pakistani government from the international community particularly from the U.S side. Pakistan has persuaded all armed opponents to come to Afghanistan and increase their attacks,” Defense Ministry spokesman Dawlat Waziri said.

But, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) has rejected claims about the collapse of Janikhail to the Taliban.

Janikhail which is 150 kilometers from the provincial capital Gardez City shares a border with Pakistan’s Kurram Agency and Parachinar region – two tribal regions across the Durand Line.

“The war still rages on in that region. Reinforcements have also been sent to the area,” said Nisar Ahmad Abdul Rahimzai, security commander of Paktia Police Headquarters.

“It is an area which has routes to several provinces. Armed opponents can get supplies from several provinces. They can create security threats for several provinces from the area including Faryab,” said Asifa Shadab, an MP from Faryab.

“We will not allow anyone to harm the aspirations of the people,” said Juma Khan Adil, commander of 606 Ansar Police Unit.

The district has also common borders with Musakhail and Sabri districts in Khost province.

Janikhail which wields a major economic reputation in the south has been frequently targeted by the Taliban.

There are several chromite mines in the district which have further added to the economic status of the town.

Kohistan district meanwhile is located 120 kilometers from Faryab’s capital Maimana city.

Taiwara district is located 240 kilometers from Feroz Koh region, in the west. It has a border with Purchaman and Gulistan districts in Farah province, in the south, with Baghran district of Helmand and in the east and northeast regions with Pasawand Shahrak, Tolak and Saghar districts of Ghor province.

Taiwara was one of the strongholds of the Afghan Mujahedeen during the former USSR occupation and resistance.

But, the Ministry of Defense (MoD) has said that the Taliban must not dream of achieving their goals.

Violence has dramatically increased in the country over the past three weeks as the Afghan security forces are now tackling the Taliban offshoots in at least ten provinces.

was killed while fighting for a Kurdish militia, his father said Tuesday.

David Taylor Sr. told The News Agency that Dare Not be Named that his 25-year-old son, David Taylor, told only a high school friend about his plans to join the Kurdish group, and he swore his friend to secrecy. Taylor's father said he didn't even know of his son's plans until after he had arrived in Syria and was training with the group known as YPG.

"I got an email and he said, 'Pops, don't worry. I'm with the YPG,'" David Taylor Sr. said in a telephone interview from his home in West Virginia. "He said, 'I'm doing the right thing. It's for their freedom.'"

A Kurdish militia group released a video saying Taylor was killed on July 16. The U.S. State Department said in a statement that it was aware of reports of a U.S. citizen being killed while fighting in Syria but offered no further comment. Taylor Sr. said a U.S. consular chief from the Kurdistan Region in Iraq informed him of his son's death.

Taylor's high school friend emailed the father after he learned of the death. The friend said Taylor told him during a visit to St. Petersburg Beach, Florida, last February that Taylor believed the Islamic State group needed to be stopped.

"One night he got drunk and told me of the atrocities he had witnessed in the Middle East during his time in the Marine Corps," the friend, Alex Cintron, wrote in an email to Taylor's parents.

Taylor's father shared the email with AP on Tuesday.

"He said to the effect that 'Isis was the bane of modern existence and needed to be stopped before they destroy any more lives and priceless works of human achievement,'" Cintron said in the email.

Egypt military says 40 militants killed in campaign
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Egypt’s military said on Tuesday it has killed more than 40 turbans in a wide-ranging campaign in the Sinai Peninsula where ISIS has been waging a deadly insurgency.

The announcement came a day after seven non-combatants were killed in a foiled attack on a checkpoint with a boom-mobile.

An army tank had intercepted the vehicle and driven over it, almost flattening it, before the explosives went off, according to a video released by the army.

ISIS has waged deadly attacks on the military and police, most recently on a checkpoint in Sinai on July 7 that killed at least 21 soldiers.

But the military, which killed the leader of the group's affiliate in Egypt last year, says it is closing in on the Death Eaters.

It said in a statement on Tuesday that "40 Death Eaters" have been killed in the week-long campaign against the holy warriors.

A military source told AFP that soldiers were staying put in locations they cleared of the holy warriors, rather than withdrawing as in past campaigns.

"After storming terrorist hideouts, the soldiers are staying there," the source, who requested anonymity, told AFP.

"The terrorist elements are fleeing and leaving their weapons behind," he added.

Extremists launched an insurgency in Sinai after the military overthrew the divisive

Islamist president Mohammed Morsi in 2013.

They have maintained a steady war of attrition with sniper attacks and roadside kaboomings.

But unlike their parent organization in Iraq and Syria, they have been unable to seize population centers in the peninsula bordering Israel and Gazoo.
Al Ahram adds:
The army also destroyed 20 vehicles belonging to terrorist elements, four cycle of violences and four car-bombs that were intended to target security forces.

Security forces in North Sinai also destroyed 52 terrorist hideouts that were used to store weapons, medical supplies, explosives and communication devices, the statement read.

The statement added that the army destroyed 100 bombs, as well as eight explosives workshops.

Egyptian army foils major car bomb attack on checkpoint in North Sinai: Spokesperson

[AlAhram] Seven non-combatants were killed when a 4x4 vehicle laden with explosives approaching an army checkpoint south of al-Arish in North Sinai went kaboom! after it was run over by an army tank to stop an imminent attack on the checkpoint on Monday evening, the army front man reported on his official Facebook page.

The 4x4 vehicle, which went kaboom! on the scene, was carrying five suspected turbans armed with guns and 100 kilograms of explosives, the army said.

The victims included two women and two children.

The aborted attack could have killed nearly 50-60 soldiers and civilians, the statement added.

A number of civilian cars and commercial trucks were lined up to pass the checkpoint at the time of the foiled attack, a video footage posted by the army spokesperson showed.

Lebanese army chief: 50 militants held in raids on Syrian camps

in recent security raids on Syrian refugee camps on the border between the two countries.

General Joseph Oun was quoted on the army website as saying that among those detained since a major security sweep began last month were some who had taken part in an attack on the town of Arsal in 2014 and in the kidnapping of army soldiers.

The camps around the town have long been a haven for bandidos hard boyz from Syria who have clashed with Lebanese forces conducting security raids in search of suspects hiding among the refugees.

Syrian hard boyz briefly overran Arsal in 2014 in a battle that killed dozens and marked one of the more serious spillovers of the Syrian conflict into Leb

"The army will not make the camps a facade for the terrorists," Oun was quoted as saying, without elaborating on the identity of the krazed killers.

The army said at the time of the raids last month that there were several Islamic State

officials among some 350 people detained.

It later said four of the Syrian men arrested had died in detention from chronic illnesses. Rights activists and refugees said they had been tortured to death.

Leb's powerful Shia Hezbollah group last Friday launched an offensive in the mountains overlooking Arsal to oust jihadists from their last foothold along the Syria-Leb border.

Pressure mounts to curtail surgery on intersex children
[BREITBART] Children whose sexual characteristics don’t neatly align with the norm have for decades faced surgery to rearrange their anatomy to resemble that of more typical boys and girls -- long before they were old enough to have a say in the decision.

But now the practice is under assault, as never before. The American Medical Association is considering a proposal discouraging it. Three former U.S. surgeons general say it’s unjustified. And on Tuesday, Human Rights Watch and InterACT -- a group advocating for intersex youth -- are releasing a detailed report assailing the practice and urging Congress to ban it.

The report says "the results are often catastrophic" and asserts that the surgeries "can inflict irreversible physical and psychological harm."

McCain, battling cancer, returns to Senate and casts critical health care vote
[USATODAY] Sen. John Maverick McCain
... the Senator-for-Life from Arizona, former presidential candidate and even more former foot soldier in the Reagan Revolution. As an ordinary citizen he greased the infamous hookers peeing on the Obamabed in Moscow dossier in an attempt to smear President Trump...
returned to the U.S. Capitol on Tuesday afternoon to cast a critical vote in favor of health care legislation less than a week after undergoing surgery and revealing he has brain cancer.

And then, in typical McCain fashion, he took to the floor and blasted both the Senate's draft health care bill and the process that produced it.

McCain’s vote was pivotal as Republicans, who hold a 52-seat majority, scrambled to round up 50 votes on a motion to advance legislation to repeal Obamacare
... aka the Affordable Care Act, an ineptly designed and worse executed piece of legislation designed to bring 17 percent of the U.S. economy under the direct control of the government. The previous iteration, known as Hillarycare, was laughed out of Washington. This stinker was passed on a party-line vote without being read...
McCain did not announce in advance whether he would support Tuesday’s "motion to proceed," but he marched onto the floor to a standing ovation from his colleagues and voted "aye." Republican Sens. Susan Collins of Maine and Lisa Daddy, can I be a senator? Murkowski
... representing K Street ...
of Alaska voted no, requiring Vice President Pence to cast the tie-breaking vote in favor.

But that was only a vote to begin debate. "I will not vote for this bill as it is today," McCain said, and if it fails "as seems likely," the Senate should go back to the drawing board, with hearings, markups and consultation with Democrats -- all things that have thus far been lacking.
Reuters adds:
The outcome was a huge relief for President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
, who had pushed his fellow Republicans hard in recent days to live up to the party's campaign promises to repeal the 2010 Affordable Care Act, commonly known as Obamacare. Minutes after the vote, Trump called it "a big step."

But the narrow victory on a simple procedural matter raised questions about whether Republicans can muster the votes necessary to pass any of various approaches to repeal. Moderates are worried repeal will cost low-income Americans their insurance and conservatives are angry the proposed bills do not go far enough to gut Obamacare.

Mosul (IraqiNews.com) Iraqi security forces arrested six Islamic militants near western Mosul airport, the police command said on Tuesday, as security continues to clear areas recaptured from the group.

The Federal Police service said in a statement that the six militants were arrested during combing patrols in Bu Sayf region, near Mosul Airport.

Federal Police chief Shaker Jawdat said multiple weapons, including explosive belts, were also seized after the arrest.

Iraqi troops recaptured Bu Sayf region from IS members in February, days after a second phase of operations launched to clear western Mosul from militants.

Observers, however, fear that victory on the military level could not mean a total removal of the group’s threat, and think dormant cells could still destabilize the security situation with lone wolf attacks against civilians and security members. Many militants have also been found hiding among thousands of civilians fleeing the battlefield.

IS still controls a few pockets in Nineveh, Anbar, Salahuddin and Kirkuk, and the Iraqi government is planning to launch further offensives to clear those regions.

4 kops die in bomb attack near market

Mosul (IraqiNews.com) Four security personnel were killed as Islamic State attacked troops at a market in western Mosul, a source from Nineveh police was quoted saying.

“Security troops deployed at al-Maash market clashed with IS members who attempted attacking the troops,” Cap. Amir Wathiq told BasNews on Tuesday. “The clashes left four police personnel, including a lieutenant general, killed.”

“The attacking elements ran away to an unknown destination, as security reinforcements arrived and police cordoned off the region,” he added.

On Monday, news reports said four civilians were killed while three others, including two policemen, were wounded as a booby-trapped vehicle exploded in Bab Sinjar market in western Mosul.

Despite declaring victory over IS, the group have reportedly carried out attacks against security forces over the past few days.

ISIS Big Turban arrested in eastern Mosul

Mosul (IraqiNews.com) A senior Islamic State leader was arrested while attempting to flee western Mosul to the eastern side of the city, the Interior Ministry said in a statement on Tuesday.

Ministry spokesperson Saad Maan said the forces arrested while crossing from the western side to the east, carrying a fake ID. The apprehended militant had served as the Islamic State’s so-called “tribal affairs bureau for southern Mosul”.

The Iraqi government said it cleared the city of Mosul from Islamic State members earlier this month, ending a three-year occupation by the militant group. Since then, security forces have been combing the recaptured areas for dormant IS cells and for members fleeing among refugee groups. Many have been arrested from refugee convoys over suspicions of affiliation with IS, while others were either apprehended or killed trying to escape between both sides of the city.

The group has lost most of its senior leaders among more than 25.000 members in the U.S.-backed battles, and currently occupies a few pockets in Nineveh, Anbar, Kirkuk and Salahuddin provinces, albeit amid recurrent reports of internal divisions and power disputes among its ranks. The Iraqi government intends to charge at those strongholds in the near future.

‘Annihilate them’: California imam calls on Allah to ‘spare no Jews’
[RT] A California holy man called on Allah to "annihilate" Jews "down to the very last one," urging for the al-Aqsa mosque in Temple Mount in Jerusalem to be freed from their "filth." His comments came amid violence at the holy site between Israeli police and Paleostinians.

Sheikh Ammar Shahin delivered his Friday sermon at the Islamic Center of Davis, where he serves as imam, some 20km from Sacramento, the capital of Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party,, according to a statement from the center.

In the video, the imam called on Allah to "liberate the al-Aqsa Mosque from the filth of the Jews" and to "destroy those who closed the al-Aqsa Mosque."

Shahin’s hour-long speech in both English and Arabic was mostly dedicated to the dispute over the Jerusalem holy site. Israeli authorities earlier limited access to the compound housing the al-Aqsa, one of Islam’s holiest sites.

The move sparked protests in Jerusalem and across the West Bank which repeatedly turned violent.

Israel also introduced metal detectors outside the al-Aqsa Mosque after a fatal attack on coppers. Following numerous protests by the Paleostinians, it has agreed to remove the detectors.

"Oh Allah, count them all and annihilate them down to the very last one. Do not spare any of them," Shahin said in the video.

In his speech, the imam also quoted a Hadith (sacred text of the words and stories of the Prophet Muhammad) saying that Judgement Day will come after the Moslems fight the Jews in a final battle.

Shahin’s sermon sparked controversy on social media, with some people saying that he "preaches violence."
The Times of Israel has the entire video here. Sheikh Shahin is even wearing a cute little prayer shawl with the Al Aqsa mosque imprinted on it.

"Why is he still here?"

Because the US has reached a state in which tolerance has become a terminal condition.

I'll start believing we're serious about countering the menace of Islam when scumbags like Sheikh Shithead are rounded up and sent off to life in prison the instant they open their mouths and spew their poison.

Haftar and Al-Sirraj agree on nation-wide ceasefire, elections
[Libya Observer] In a joint presser in Gay Paree suburbs on Tuesday evening, the Prime Minister of the UN-proposed government Fayez al-Sirraj and the commander of Dignity Operation forces, Khalifa Haftar
... served in the Libyan army under Muammar Qadaffy, and took part in the coup that brought Qadaffy to power in 1969. He became a prisoner of war in Chad in 1987. While held prisoner, he and his fellow officers formed a group hoping to overthrow Qadaffy. He was released around 1990 in a deal with the United States government and spent nearly two decades in the United States, gaining US citizenship. In 1993, while living in the United States, he was convicted in absentia of crimes against the Jamahiriya and sentenced to death. Haftar held a senior position in the anti-Qadaffy forces in the 2011 Libyan Civil War. In 2014 he was commander of the Libyan Army when the General National Congress (GNC) refused to give up power in accordance with its term of office. Haftar launched a campaign against the GNC and its Islamic fundamentalist allies. His campaign allowed elections to take place to replace the GNC, but then developed into a civil war. Guess you can't win them all...
- under the auspices of La Belle France's President Emmanuel Macron - announced coming to terms on a ceasefire across Libya.

The announcement came following a tripartite meeting for Macron, Haftar and al-Sirraj at La Celle Saint-Cloud outside Gay Paree, where afterwards the UN envoy to Libya, Ghassan Salame joined the talks.

In the presser, the final statement of the meeting was read and contained ten points that are meant to regulate the agreement.

Most importantly, Haftar and al-Sirraj both agreed on elections, promising to provide the needed environment for the House of Representatives and the High council of State as well as the High National Commission for Elections to prepare for the polls.

"We vow to start preparing for the elections as soon as possible under the supervision of the United Nations
...aka the Oyster Bay Chowder and Marching Society...
." The statement indicates.

The statement also says that there will be no military solutions in Libya, but rather political solutions through national reconciliation that is inclusive of all parties, adding that using military power is not allowed by any party except for fighting terrorism.

It also called for withdrawing weapons and releasing the fighters then returning them to their civilian ordinary lives, indicating that both parties will do their best to allow the fighters (who wish so) in the official forces of the Libyan state.

"Libyan army will be made of the official troops that can defend the country as per article 33 of the LPA." The final statement says.

"We vow to build a civilian democratic country that respects all national and international laws, agrees to circulate power peacefully, and has unified institutions especially the Central Bank of Libya, Libyan Investment Authority, and the National Oil corporation." The statement reads.

Both al-Sirraj and Haftar said that they will be acting as per the Libyan Political Agreement signed in Skhirat, Morocco on December 17, 2015, saying they will keep dialogue channels to resume the work of Abu Dhabi meeting that was held on May 03, 2017.

"We are working on a strategy for security in Libya that will see all current security and military units joined under one body to combat illegal immigration, human trafficking and other violations via Libya's borders." The final statement explains.

The final statement ended with a call on the Security Council of the UN to support the outcome of Gay Paree Meeting, which was described in the presser by the French President as historic, by mandating Ghassan Salame to do the needed talks to rally the parties around this new step.

Princeton University's 'men's engagement manager' to battle aggressive masculinity
[FOX News] Do men at Princeton University need special guidance so that they don’t become violent, aggressive stalkers or rapists?

A paid position at the Ivy League school -- part of its Sexual Harassment/Assault Advising, Resources and Education (SHARE) office – focuses on “ … promoting an environment for healthy male social development by challenging belief systems and social constructs that contribute to violence …”

Colleges and universities across the country have been grappling with how to address what seems to some like an increasing number of reported sexual assaults on campus – sometimes referred to as a campus “rape culture” -- with decidedly mixed results and even some backlash.

State Department Lawyers Removing References to ISIS ‘Genocide’ Against Christians, Other Religious Minorities
[FREEBEACON] The State Department's top lawyers are systematically removing the word "genocide" to describe the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
's mass slaughter of Christians, Yazidis, and other ethnic minorities in Iraq and Syria from speeches before they are delivered and other official documents, according to human rights
...which are usually entirely different from personal liberty...
activists and attorneys familiar with the policies.

Additionally, Democratic senators are delaying confirmation of Mark Green, Trump's pick to head the U.S. Agency for International Development who has broad bipartisan support.

These efforts guarantee that Obama-era policies that worked to exclude Iraq's Christian and other minority religious populations from key U.S. aid programs remain in place, the activists said.

Richard Visek, who was appointed by President B.O. as head the State Department's Office of Legal Adviser in October 2016, is behind the decision to remove the word "genocide" from official documents, according to Nina Shea, an international human rights lawyer who directs the Hudson Institute's Center for Religious Freedom.

"I don't think for a minute it's a bureaucratic decision--it's ideological," said Shea, who also spent 12 years as a commissioner on the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom, or CIRF, from 1999 to 2012.

A State Department front man on Monday said he would look into the matter and respond.

The latest moves from the State Department's Office of the Legal Adviser appear aimed at rolling back then-Secretary of State John F. I was in Vietnam, you know Kerry
Former Senator-for-Life from Massachussetts, self-defined war hero, speaker of French, owner of a lucky hat, conqueror of Cambodia, unsuccessful presidential candidate, and utterly failed Secretary of State...
's March 2016 genocide determination. Kerry's much-anticipated genocide designation came after months of equivocation and detailed documentation by interested parties that the Islamic State is responsible for genocide against Yazidis, Christians, and Shia Moslems.

It was one of the few times in history that the United States designated ongoing mass murders against ethnic or religious minorities as meeting the legal definition of genocide laid out in a 1948 treaty. That agreement requires signatories, including the United States, to take steps to "prevent and punish" genocide.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Study: 8,471 Cases of Double Voting Uncovered in 21 States
[BREITBART] As the debate over President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
’s voter fraud commission intensifies, a new study has found 8,471 instances of double voting during the 2016 elections occurring in 21 states.

The nonpartisan Government Accountability Institute (GAI), which was cofounded by Breitbart News Senior Editor-at-Large Peter Schweizer and former Breitbart Executive Chairman Stephen K. Bannon, analyzed data from 21 U.S. states and found that 7,271 ballots were cast in more than one state by individuals with the identical first and last name, middle initial, birthdate, and partial Social Security number. Another 1,200 double votes meeting the same criteria were detected within the same state. Given the high methodological bar employed, GAI says the statistical "probability of correctly matching two records with the same name, birthdate, and Social Security number is close to 100 percent."

The 37-page study is unique in that while most past voter fraud analyses have used statistical models to project fraud rates, the GAI report identified actual matches of real votes cast using public voter information rolls. "There are currently no government agencies or private entities that compare all state voter rolls to detect duplicate voting fraud," states the report.

GAI says the reason it only examined 21 states is because the government watchdog group encountered numerous hurdles in gathering state voter data, including: "exorbitant costs," woefully disorganized and incomplete data, and "outright rejected requests" from states. Still, "extending GAI’s conservative matching method to include all 50 states would indicate an expected minimum of 45,000 high-confidence duplicate voting matches," says the report.

I can say that the investigation was primarily based on extensive review of ISIS communiques and information gathered through open source intelligence.

Sajit Debnath aka Muhammad Saifullah Ozaki, the Japanese-Bangladeshi jihadi and former associate professor of Ritsumeikan University, is most likely the elusive ameer of ISIS in Bangladesh, responsible for a series of jihadi attacks in the country including the July 2016 massacre at the Holey Artisan Bakery.

Information gathered during months of investigation suggest that Ozaki is the individual whose interview was featured in the 14th issue of ISIS’ flagship Dabiq magazine in April 2016. In that interview, Shaykh Abu Ibrahim al-Hanif (Ozaki’s kunya or Islamic nom de guerre) was identified as the "amir of the Khilafah’s soldiers in Bengal."

The first part of Ozaki’s kunya (Abu Ibrahim ‐ "father of Ibrahim") is most likely based on the name of his youngest son, who is a minor. Ozaki and his Japanese wife have three sons, who are named after Islamic prophets. He used the name of his eldest son ‐ also a minor ‐ as part of another kunya he once took.

The Grand Turk
Erdogan: ‘Israeli soldiers pollute Al-Aqsa grounds with combat boots, easily spill blood’
[RT] Moslems should use every opportunity to go to Jerusalem to help protect the al-Aqsa mosque, which Israeli soldiers are "carelessly polluting" while "easily spilling blood," Ottoman Turkish President Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him...
has said.

Moslems should support their brothers in faith suffering from Israel’s actions at the al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem, Erdogan told members of the ruling AK Party on Tuesday.

"From here I call upon all Moslems. Those who are able to should visit al-Aqsa... Those who cannot visit al-Aqsa should send aid to our brothers there," Erdogan said in Ankara, as cited by the state-run Anadolu news agency.

"When Israeli soldiers carelessly pollute the grounds of al-Aqsa with their combat boots by using simple issues as a pretext and then easily spill blood there, the reason [they are able to do that] is we [Moslems] have not done enough to stake our claim over Jerusalem," Erdogan said.

He added that Ottoman Turkish authorities are doing their utmost to protect Christian and Jewish places of worship from holy warrior attacks, saying that The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
has "no issues with them," according to Rooters.

Erdogan also said he had spoken to Israeli President Reuven Rivlin and told him that Moslems visiting al-Aqsa mosque could not be treated as terrorists. "We can also not accept Jews going to synagogues and temples being treated as terrorists," he said.

Iraqi militia kills 2 ISIS troops near Ramadi
Jackpot!
Anbar (IraqiNews.com) Pro-government paramilitary forces killed two Islamic State members and seized their ammunition truck west of Anbar on Tuesday, a security source was quoted saying.

Alsumaria News quoted the source saying that a force from “Al-Jazeera Shield”, a regiment affiliated with the “Tribal Mobilization”, ambushed three IS militants at the Kilo 160 region, west of Ramadi. A third militant was arrested and a truck laden with light and medium weapons was also seized.

Mobilization forces have occasionally fought off IS assaults on the Kilo 160 region over the past months coincidently with Iraqi government offensives to clear IS havens across Iraq.

IS has held enclaves in the towns of Annah, Rawa and Qaim in western Anbar and near the borders with Syria since the group emerged in 2014 to proclaim a self-styled Islamic “Caliphate”.

The Iraqi government plans to aim at those regions after totally clearing the province of Nineveh, where a few pockets remain after the liberation of Mosul, IS’s largest stronghold, earlier this month.

Iraqi warbirds smoke 21 ISIS troops near Hadith Lake

Anbar (IraqiNews.com) Tens of Islamic State militants were killed as Iraqi jets launched several airstrikes in Anbar province.

A statement by the Defense Ministry’s War Media Cell said Iraqi jets launched several airstrikes that left an IS rest house and a weapon stash destroyed.

“The strikes also targeted militants, killing tens of them west of Haditha lake,” the statement added.

Haditha city is fully controlled by security forces and tribal fighters, however, IS launches attacks there every now and then. The regions in the north of the lake are desert ones with a number of houses that are used by IS militants as hideouts.

Ealier on the day, Petra news agency quoted Army Colonel Ahmed al-Shemari as saying that 21 IS fighters were killed as military troops foiled an IS attack against military sites in al-Nakhib region, near the Iraqi-Saudi borders.

India's Supreme Court to consider abortion plea from 10-year-old rape victim
[DAWN] Doctors on Wednesday will examine a 10-year-old girl raped by her uncle, as India's top court considers whether she should be allowed to have an abortion despite strict laws.

The girl's parents went to the Supreme Court after their appeal to abort the 26-week foetus was rejected by a lower authority, despite warnings that her body was not ready for childbirth.

Indian law does not allow medical terminations after 20 weeks unless there is a threat to the mother's life. But the Supreme Court agreed to hear the appeal, ordering doctors to conduct a medical examination and report back before a ruling is given on Friday.

The girl's pregnancy was only discovered recently after her parents took her to a hospital when she complained of stomach pain.

Indian courts have considered many pleas from rape victims seeking permission to terminate pregnancies following abuse.

In many cases, the women only discovered they were pregnant when late in their term.

In May, the top court allowed a 10-year-old rape victim from the northern state of Haryana to abort her nearly 21-week foetus.

India has a grim record of sexual assaults on minors with 20,000 cases of rape or sexual assaults reported in 2015, according to government data.

A UN Committee on the Rights of the Child in 2014 said that one in three rape victims in India was a minor and expressed alarm at the widespread sexual abuse of children.

Almost 50 per cent of the abusers are known to the victims.

Sex -- whether consensual or otherwise -- with a person aged below 18 is considered rape in India.
