By the early 1980s, NPA had found new funding sources, (extortion, revolutionary taxes, communist parties in Western Europe, church-based groups in Canada, Norway, and Switzerland, and the Japan Communist Party) [10] and was rebuilding. [11]."

Given China's South China sea belligerency, I wonder if China isn't still covertly funding the NPA.
