#2 It's not been a representative republic for well over 2 decades, it's an oligarchy of special interests and money. You are not going to fix it. You can hide as you have behind rituals thinking that gives legitimacy and protection when it doesn't.

To me, the question boils down to how to make THEM, actually apolitical and accountable to the same laws they impose on others. While adhering to their oath of office.

All in such a way and manner, that it cannot be abused by various Political, or Special Interest Groups ... like a Spanish Inquisition.

#4 Start by making the criminal statutes fewer and utterly clearcut.

Eliminate the ability of them to make anything a crime if it suits them.

Also, eliminate any "discretion" as to which crimes to pursue and make prosecutable cases for.

#8 The Republicans control the power of the purse. If they were seriously concerned about insurrection of the federal workforce, they could defund the offending departments, even down to defunding each offending individual.
