Controversial FBI Counterintelligence Nominee on Hold In Senate
[Free Beacon] The nomination of U.S. intelligence community's most senior counterintelligence official, under fire for overlooking major counterspy failures in the Obama administration, is on hold in the Senate.
Obama administration candidate? Is there a need to read further ?
FBI Agent Bill Evanina, an Obama administration holdover and head of the National Counterintelligence and Security Center, a DNI unit, has been awaiting Senate confirmation for two years.

Earlier this month, Sen. Chuck Grassley, chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, placed a hold on Evanina's nomination for the second time to prevent him from being the first Senate-confirmed director of the counterintelligence center.

The hold is based on a dispute with the office of the Director of National Intelligence (DNI) and Justice Department. It is the second time in two years the nomination has been blocked by Grassley who is investigating Russian meddling in the 2016 election. The last hold on the nominee took place in June 2018.

"I continue to experience difficulties obtaining relevant documents and briefings from the Justice Department and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence related to 2016 election controversies," Grassley said in placing the hold March 5.
Can't get a straight answer from DOJ? Drop the SOB, go on to the next candidate.
The block on the nomination is not based on questioning Evanina's credentials, Grassley noted.

EVANINA ON AGENT LOSSES
However, Evanina recently raised concerns for stating that the arrest, imprisonment, or execution of scores of U.S. intelligence informants in China and Iran were a minor setback for American intelligence agencies.

"Counterintelligence efforts, like any intelligence discipline, suffer occasional setbacks, and we learn from these setbacks," Evanina told the Wall Street Journal.
Acceptable losses, cost of doing business... you know the deal.
The losses are among the most damaging human spying failures that cost lives and will make it more difficult for intelligence officers to recruit similar assets in the future.

The U.S. government has been keeping details about the disasters secret. Brief mention has been made in two court cases.

Evanina was responding to an earlier opinion article in the Journal that was critical of the American counterintelligence system for causing the loss of recruited agents that were linked to former Air Force counterintelligence agent Monica Witt, who defected to Iran in 2013.

Witt was indicted Feb. 8‐more than five years after fleeing to Iran‐and charged with compromising a program used to communicate secretly with recruited agents in Iran and the Middle East.

In May 2011, Iran's Intelligence Ministry announced the arrest of 42 people allegedly for spying for the CIA. U.S. officials believe the rolling up of the CIA network in Iran and other locations is related to Witt's treachery.

NYC Bill Would Outlaw Unfair Terminations in the Fast Food Industry
[Reason] In recent years, the Big Apple's fast food industry has trailblazed for employee protections and higher wages, particularly as the driving force behind the "Fight for 15." It's a battle they won with the passage of New York's $15 minimum wage law. Now they're setting their sights on eliminating unfair firings.
We know BEST, damnit!!
"Workers have told me they've been fired for no reason at all," Democratic City Councilman Brad Lander, who introduced a bill to ban the practice in the fast food industry, told The Guardian. "Should employers have the right to fire people for any reason, including the most trivial reasons? Most people would say that's not a right people should have."

Proponents say that, in dismissing employees, fast-casual restauranteurs should need to show "just cause"‐that is, proof of serious misconduct. But what compromises that misconduct is somewhat ambiguous. Under Lander's legislation, workers will be able to appeal firings via arbitration, a complaint to the Department of Consumer Affairs, or with a lawsuit.

Ironically, some of those terminations are likely the result of the movement's last legislative victory, with restaurants purging jobs in the wake of the city's minimum wage hike. Fifty-three percent of New York's "limited service" establishments‐otherwise known as fast-casual spots‐plan to eliminate positions this year in response to the wage increase, according to a survey by the New York Hospitality Alliance. That comes after 50 percent did so in 2018.

"There's a misperception about the profitability of restaurants in general," Chris Westcott, CEO of Rosa Mexicano, tells Eater NY. "Everyone thinks we're rolling in it. And it's tight. There's a limit to what we can spend."
If the government can deficit spend, why can't you?
Westcott isn't wrong: The restaurant industry operates on slim profit margins, which peak around 4 percent, according to the financial information company Sageworks. So significant hikes to the minimum wage often necessitate staff reductions, as businesses struggle under the weight of increased labor costs. But employers may find themselves in a costly arbitration process for terminating employees they can't afford to keep, according to Michael Lotito, a labor attorney who represents the restaurant industry.

"I don't know how a small business owner would be able to survive in the circumstances of that bill," he tells Reason. While layoffs for economic reasons are hypothetically permitted under "just cause," there is quite a bit of uncertainty as to how the law would work in practice‐meaning cash-strapped franchise owners could be susceptible to lawsuits for making bottom-line business decisions.

"It is that fear that will inhibit job growth, job expansion," Lotito says. That's especially true if its sister bill also passes, championed by Democratic councilmember Adrienne Adams: It would require that all staff layoffs be made in order of seniority, regardless of employee performance. "What you'll wind up doing is just buying everybody out, because it's going to be too expensive to arbitrate everything," Lotito predicts.
NYC will next outlaw going out of business for small businesses. But it is also illegal to not pay your city taxes.

Next up after everyone jailed... NATIONALIZE ALL THE BUSINESSES!!!!

#1  "Should employers have the right to fire people for any reason, including the most trivial reasons?

Kind of the definition of at-will employment.
The harder you make it to dismiss a worker, the less likely an employer will be to take a gamble on hiring someone. We see that in Europe already.

#4  Wut no price fixing?

Staying profitable ain't exactly a trivial reason.

Most people would say that's not a right people should have.

Most people don't attempt an enterprise, especially food service, where one bugwit employee can sink the whole effort. Remember salsa balls? Local entrepreneur attempts local alternative to grub hub, sunk by 30 year old soy boy trying to be internet famous for 15 minutes.

The harder you make it to dismiss a worker, the less likely an employer will be to take a gamble on hiring someone.

In the meantime, established business get ground between the millstones of higher payrolls and lower profit margins.

#13  Yeah, really.

OK, 'nother one:
Employee keeps coming to work drunk. He's rude, not up to the task, way too many bathroom breaks, maybe he is washing his hands. Fired.

Two weeks later owner gets a letter from city attorney - ends up employee is illegal and claims that is the reason for being let go. In sanctuary NYC that is not a good reason and business is in violation of the law.

Owner can go to court to prove their innocence, that is time money and damn sure better have documentation - or settle out of court. Boned either way.

President Trump orders alien biometric IDs, dump 466,000 Obama green cards
[American Thinker] President Trump ordered biometric ID cards for all non-immigrant work visas and is moving to dump Obama’s Executive Order expanding H-1B green cards by 466,000.

Donald Trump’s first initiatives as president was issuing the "Buy American and Hire American" in April 2017 that instructed the U.S. Immigration Service to drastically restructure the job-destroying H-1B "temporary foreign worker" program.

Republican President George H.W. Bush joined Democratic Senator Ted Kennedy to pass the Immigration Act of 1990 that expanded U.S. foreign worker visas, implemented family-chain-migration, and launched the H-1B "specialty occupations" visa program.

The so-called "Einstein Visas" program was designed to allow employers having difficulty hiring enough skilled U.S. college graduates, to temporarily sponsor "green card" work visas for up to 85,000 foreign college graduates. But Silicon Valley tech giants used low-cost H-1B foreigners to dump higher-paid American employees. When H-1B temporary workers’ visas expire, many fail to return home and just keep working.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Malia, Michelle, Barack and the College Admissions Scandal
Someone continues to dig.
[American Thinker] What shocked even the old timers in my hometown was that Mayor Hugh Addonizio, the man who gave me my Eagle Scout Award, would accept kickbacks in cash right across his desk. They were troubled less by his criminality -- that was expected in Newark -- than by his lack of subtlety. Addonizio paid for his indiscretion with a lengthy prison sentence.

So it is with the current college admissions scandal. People have been scamming their ways into prestige universities for decades, maybe centuries, but in the past they have had the good sense not to put the cash on the table. It seems that in this scandal a few of the bribers and their brokers may well pay for their indiscretion with prison sentences as well.

The media pretend to be shocked. In an editorial on the scandal, the New York Times singled out Harvard University for its "special admissions preferences and back doors for certain applicants." This is the same New York Times, however, that published an entirely uncritical article three years prior headlined, "Malia Obama Rebels, Sort of, by Choosing Harvard."

Malia is the fourth member of the Obama family to attend that august university, none of whom, save perhaps for Grandpa Obama, deserved to be there.

Let’s start with Obama Sr., the only member of the extended family to attend college before the affirmative action/diversity era. Obama arrived at Harvard in the early 1960s with the goal of getting a Ph.D. in economics. According to biographer Sally Jacobs, Obama "struggled" with his studies but managed to get a Masters degree.

He was brought in on a “Clever Thrid Worlder” grant, intended to seduce loyalty to the American Way and away from Communism. Which he lost because he was too busy tomcatting, as I recall, and never finished his advanced degree. Not exactly proof of intelligence, when it could have been given to an African with real ability and drive, one who would have done more for his country than become a drunkard and a failure. US detects huge meteor explosion
[BBC] A huge fireball exploded in the Earth's atmosphere in December, according to Nasa.

The blast was the second largest of its kind in 30 years, and the biggest since the fireball over Chelyabinsk in Russia six years ago.

But it went largely unnoticed until now because it blew up over the Bering Sea, off Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula.

The space rock exploded with 10 times the energy released by the Hiroshima atomic bomb.

Lindley Johnson, planetary defence officer at Nasa, told BBC News a fireball this big is only expected about two or three times every 100 years.

One person believed to have been killed in shooting on a tram in Utrecht: police
[DutchNews] One person is believed to have been killed and several others have been injured in a shooting incident on a tram in Utrecht, on Monday morning.

The incident happened at around 10.45 on a tram at the 24 Oktoberplein, a busy transport hub close to the city’s main railway station, which has been sealed off. Tram services have also been halted.

The counter-terrorism service NCTV raised the terror threat level in Utrecht to 5 – the highest level – for the first time since it was introduced. ‘The perpetrator is still on the run. A terrorist motive has not been ruled out,’ said the head of the service, Pieter-Jaap Aalbersberg.

Police have not confirmed how many people had been injured in the incident, but three people were reported to have been taken away in ambulances. Local media said one person had been killed, based on images of a body covered by a white sheet beside the tram.

Police spokesman Bernhard Jens told NOS that the suspected gunman may have fled the scene in a red Renault Clio. He said: ‘We trying to get an overview of what’s gone on, offering support to victims and of course we’re looking to catch the person responsible for this as quickly as possible.’

No arrests have been made so far. Security has been stepped up at Schiphol airport and other transport hubs. Children at nearby schools have been told to stay indoors.

One eyewitness is quoted as saying by website Nu.nl that ‘a man just started shooting around him.’ Another told the NRC that the shooter appeared to target people sitting in the seats. ‘The conductor could not open the doors straight away but two lads next to me smashed the window so I could get out.’
Update at 12:40 p.m. EDT: the miscreant’s photo can be seen here.

Riots on Champs-Élysées: Why violence has become ‘legitimate' for some Yellow Vests
[France24] Paris on Saturday saw a second ultra-violent Yellow Vest protest. Although the rioting has been blamed on extreme elements who have infiltrated the movement, some Yellow Vests have now accepted it as legitimate to achieve their goals, an expert says.

For most, the March 16 violence in Paris dropped like a bomb shell: After weeks of weaker participation and the once-a-week rallies being contained by security forces without any major incidents, France’s Yellow Vest movement was being described as running out of steam. "Act XVIII" of the protests, however, showed that the Yellow Vests had not given up, and resulted in France’s emblematic Champs-Élysées boulevard being left in a pile of broken glass and flames.

The government has attributed the violence to extreme elements ‐ so-called casseurs ‐ who have infiltrated the movement from both the left and the right side of the political spectrum.

"Today's actions are not the work of protesters, but of looters, arsonists and criminals. No cause justifies this violence," Prime Minister Édouard Philippe tweeted after visiting the scene of the destruction.

While some Yellow Vests continue to fully distance themselves from the violence, others now appear willing to let the ransacking slide.

#1  Behind it all:

The raise of taxes on petrol and diesel started the whole thing. Over 50% in six months. Unbearable for people out of the cities who need their cars to go to work. Ecology being the easy false pretext, as we all know that this money does not go to any ecological project. Typical leftie drivel.

On the same pretext they raised the standards of the technical control on cars older than 5 years, to a point that many people will have to ditch their only means of transportation, or drive illegally. Once again the pretext is ecology, whereas the real reason is an agreement with the car industry.

There was also a 7% tax on retirement pensions.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Chistopher Steele deposition shows he did little of his own research on dossier product
[Daily Caller] Christopher Steele acknowledged in a July 2018 court deposition that he relied on a "random" article posted to a CNN website as part of his research for his infamous dossier.
He's a high level production manager and disseminator. He sits well beyond the laborious tasks of research and analysis.
The doing of it, perhaps. But he should know exactly where all his information came from and have a good understanding of how trustworthness of each fact he presents.
In the July 13, 2018, deposition, Steele was asked about the research he did into Aleksej Gubarev, a Russian tech executive who Steele accused of hacking into Democrats’ computer systems. (RELATED: Judge Unseals Portions Of Christopher Steele’s Deposition In BuzzFeed Lawsuit)

According to a transcript of Steele’s deposition unsealed Thursday, Gubarev’s lawyer asked Steele what information he had gathered on Gubarev or his companies, Webzilla and XBT Holdings. Gubarev sued Steele and BuzzFeed News for defamation for publishing what he claims are false allegations that he hacked Democrats.

Steele responded to the lawyer, Evan Fray-Witzer, by citing a July 28, 2009, article published at CNN’s iReports website.

Fray-Witzer pointed out to Steele that CNN’s iReports articles "are nothing more than any random person posting things on the Internet."

Steele said he was not aware of that.
It was a prepared script. Steele was told what to say. He was simply following orders.

#4  Wikipedia:

iReport is CNN's citizen journalism initiative that allows people from around the globe to contribute pictures and video of breaking news stories. It is similar to Wikinews in that it allows, and encourages, ordinary citizens to submit stories, photos and videos related to news of any sort. This can range from breaking news to a story that a person believes is newsworthy. Submissions are not edited, fact-checked, or screened before they post.[1] Stories that are verified are approved for use on all of CNN's platforms.

...CNN has also been criticized by insufficiently distinguishing iReport stories from its own output. There have been several cases where hoax stories placed on that service were given credence by their apparent connection to CNN, for example a story about an impending asteroid impact,[15] and several stories regarding Apple Computer that significantly influenced its stock price.[16]

That this is a thing is laudable, actually. That the stories are given the CNN imprimatur without proper journalistic vetting is appalling. That Mr. Steele, a trained former MI6 officer, who create — and sell — work product without vetting it should be enough to utterly destroy his career.

Other messengers (or pre-circulation viewers) included the late Senator John McCain, former Pres. Obama, Foggy Bottom employee Bruce Ohr.... the list could be much longer.

The goal was disinformation, not facts. CNN was simply a convenient worm can of non-attribution. In the idiom of the intelligence community, a cut-out or dead-drop. A letter, a package without a return address.

DRC train derailment kills 24, mostly children, near Kananga
[Aljazeera] At least 24 people have been killed and 31 injured in a train accident in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), according to police and medical services.

A freight train was carrying stowaways on Sunday when it derailed in Bena Leka settlement, 140km north of Kananga, one of Kasai province's main towns.

"We have retrieved 24 bodies, mostly children. It is a provisional toll because the wagons are still overturned," a railway police official in Bena Leka told AFP news agency.

"Most of the passengers are stowaways because it is a freight train. We have suspended the search because night has just fallen in the area," said the source, who was at the site.

"Several wagons have fallen into the water at the bridge over the Luembe River and five more wagons are still overturned."

Taliban captures 50 border police as fighting intensifies in western Afghanistan
KABUL (Reuters) - At least 50 members of the Afghan security forces have surrendered to the Taliban in a fight for control of Afghanistan’s western province of Badghis that has created heavy casualties, officials said.

Fighting in Afghanistan has intensified even as Taliban and U.S. officials finished the latest round of peace talks on Tuesday, with both sides citing progress.

Afghanistan usually sees a marked increase in violence in spring.

Some 100 Afghan personnel who are part of the interior ministry’s border police attempted to flee their posts into neighboring Turkmenistan on Saturday, but they were prevented from entering that country, Badghis provincial council chairman Abdul Aziz Bik said on Sunday.

About 50 Afghan border police surrendered, while the remaining 50 continued fighting in the district of Bala Murghab, he said. Bala Murghab is the province’s most populous district.

Dem Presidential Candidate Beto O'Rourke: Ban AR-15 Sales in America
[Breitbart] During a weekend interview presidential hopeful Robert Francis "Beto" O’Rourke said AR-15 sales should be banned in America.

This is a continuation of the anti-Second Amendment campaign O’Rourke conducted in his failed 2018 Senate bid.

For example, in February 2018 interview with CBS News O’Rourke supported banning bump stocks and made clear his belief that AR-15s ought not be sold in America. He said, "I think banning bump stocks makes a lot of sense. ... I don’t know that we should raise the age for buying an AR-15 I just don’t think we should be selling AR-15s in this country." And on October 18, 2018, O’Rourke noted Texas’ proud gun heritage then explained his desire for Texas to lead they way on gun control by adopting the gun laws being pushed for everyone else.

Ocasio-Cortez: Illegal Aliens Are ‘My Constituents'
[Free Beacon] Freshman Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D., N.Y.) referred to illegal immigrants as her "constituents" during a Thursday House Oversight and Reform Committee hearing.

Ocasio-Cortez was questioning Wilbur Ross, President Donald Trump's secretary of commerce, when she made the statement. She began by referencing remarks Republican Kris Kobach made while he was Kansas secretary of state. Kobach encouraged Trump early on in his administration to add a 2020 consensus question about citizenship.

"Kobach said, ’I raised the issue with the president shortly after he was inaugurated' and ’he was absolutely interested in this,'" Ocasio-Cortez said. "Shortly thereafter, in April of 2017, Steve Bannon asked you to speak with Mr. Kobach about his ’ideas about including a citizenship question on the 2020 decennial census.'"

Ross acknowledged he did speak with Kobach early on in the administration, but he was cut off by Ocasio-Cortez before he could clarify what exactly the conversation was about.

"I'm sorry, I must reclaim my time," Ocasio-Cortez said.

Her district would be home to 32,000 illegals. That seems implausible, at least at first glance, but it would actually put the illegals at 4.6 percent of the district population, the minimum number of the national population they are currently at. Her election could very well be because of illegals. If it was, and she knows it, she's not just a politically correct assh***, she's a traitor, and should be executed like one.

CNN Intel Analyst and former Klington: Trump's ‘Neo-Nazism' Similar to Hitler
[Breitbart] Appearing Friday on CNN’s Erin Burnett OutFront, former CIA operative and current CNN analyst Bob Baer said President Donald Trump’s politics of "neo-Nazism" is similar to Adolf Hitler.

ERIN BURNETT: You have a lot of rhetoric out there that, at best, is problematic, right? No rise in white nationalism, using the word "invade" today to talk about people of color coming into the United States on the same day you have a person massacre people, calling immigrants invaders. That’s just some of the rhetoric, coming from the very top in this country.

JULIETTE KAYYAM: Yes. And, it’s not an accident. Trump isn’t careless or whatever. This is a consistent feature of the president of taking one thing that, say, an African-American or a Muslim or an immigrant does, and imploding that into a national emergency, and then refusing to look at the totality of circumstances of the threat that right-wing extremism poses to us and sort of saying "maybe the guy was crazy or we don’t know what he really believed."

The president knows exactly what he’s doing. I cannot get into his heart, but what I can say is that the failure to condemn this, from the top, as compared to say what the New Zealand prime minister did, gives a sense of acceptance, if not lack of condemnation to those who believe it. Most of those people are not violent. Let’s just be clear here. But, some percentage of them will be, and they will not hear the isolation of there hatred that needs to come from the top, and it’s not excusable. It’s not carelessness. This is a purposeful tactic from the beginning from coming down the elevator.

ERIN BURNETT: And what is the purpose here? What is the purpose here, Bob?
Hey Jim, is that EB our man or what ?
BOB BAER: He’s appealing to his base, This is dog-whistle politics and it is racism. You can’t describe it any other way. When he called immigrants animals it was the same as Adolf Hitler used to call foreigners animals ‐ Jews and Gypsies It’s the same politics. It’s neo-Nazism. He may not advocate violence, but for a lot of people that listen to him, as Juliette said, its an incitement to violence.

[Breitbart] The Fox News Channel will air a repeat episode of its documentary series Scandalous on Saturday instead of Jeanine Pirro’s weekly program ‐Justice with Judge Jeanine ‐ following the conservative host’s recent remarks about Rep. Ilhan Omar’s (D-MN) use of a hijab.

Pirro is facing criticism after appearing to suggest on her program last Saturday that Omar wears a hijab in defiance of the Constitution. "Think about this: She’s not getting this anti-Israel sentiment doctrine from the Democrat Party. So if it’s not rooted in the party, where is she getting it from?" Pirro asked during her opening segment. "Think about it. Omar wears a hijab, which according to the Quran 33:59, tells women to cover so they won’t get molested. Is her adherence to this Islamic doctrine indicative of her adherence to Sharia law, which in itself is antithetical to the United States Constitution?"

Pirro’s remarks came in response to Omar’s most recent antisemitic outburst, in which she suggested pro-Israel groups pressure members of Congress to pledge allegiance to a foreign country.

In a statement to Deadline, a Fox News spokesperson said the network would not comment on "internal scheduling matters."

Fox News denounced Pirro’s comments last Sunday, saying in a statement: "We strongly condemn Jeanine Pirro’s comments about Rep. Ilhan Omar. They do not reflect those of the network and we have addressed the matter with her directly.

The network released a separate statement from Pirro, who said her intent was not to suggests Muslims could not be loyal to the U.S. "I’ve seen a lot of comments about my opening statement from Saturday night’s show and I did not call Rep. Omar un-American. My intention was to ask a question and start a debate, but of course because one is Muslim does not mean you don’t support the Constitution," said the conservative host. "I invite Rep. Omar to come on my show any time to discuss all of the important issues facing America today."

Keep this in mind though - in the early 90s, the USAF leadership decided as a matter of policy that it is impossible to mission-kill a United States Air Force base with anything short of a nuclear weapon. Since then, we've had (in no particular order) Clark AB, Homestead AFB, Myrtle Beach AFB, Tyndall AFB, and now Offutt AFB go down from natural disasters.

Mine Blasts Kill at Least 17 People in Syria
[AnNahar] Landmines left behind by jihadists have killed at least 17 people in Syria in a 24-hour period at the weekend, a war monitor said on Sunday.

group went kaboom! in the eastern province of Deir Ezzor on Saturday, killing 16 people and wounding 32 others, said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

A separate landmine kaboom in the northern province of Aleppo on Sunday killed one person, the Observatory said.

The jihadist group often plants mines to slow opponents.

De-mining former IS strongholds continues to be a major challenge in areas liberated from the jihadist group.

Last month, more than 20 non-combatants were killed in Hama province in central Syria when a landmine left behind by IS went kaboom! under a van.

At least 44 people have been killed in landmine kabooms across Syria in the past three weeks, the Observatory said.

Revised numbers for Saturday’s Yellow Vest protests
[AnNahar] Saturday's participation level in Gay Paree was seen a test of the ongoing strength of the movement.

In recent weeks, the protests have shrunk. But the interior ministry estimated the turnout in Gay Paree Saturday at 10,000, out of around 32,300 nationwide.

French President Emmanuel Macron cut short a skiing trip in the Pyrenees to return to Gay Paree for a crisis meeting, vowing to take strong action.

Guaido from Vargas: We must prepare for the definitive cessation of the usurpation

"We must prepare for the definitive cessation of the usurpation, all together in the streets, organized and mobilized," added Guaidó through his Twitter account.
"Endeavor to persevere!"
Earlier, the parliamentarian made a surprise visit to the El Mosquetero de Vargas market, where he had breakfast after talking with the citizens.

Yesterday, Guaidó announced in Valencia, Carabobo state, the beginning of tour throughout Venezuela to then organize, as he said, a national mobilization to the Miraflores Palace in Caracas, headquarters of the National Executive, in order to "remove from power" the ruler Nicolás Maduro, whose mandate is unknown.

"We start a new stage (...), we will visit all the possible states, we will organize ourselves very well in Operation Freedom for the definitive cessation of the usurpation," he said.

Guaidó said that "commandos for freedom" are being formed to mobilize the population. "Very soon, when we have traveled and organized each corner (...) we will go to Miraflores to claim what is of the town," he added.

Musharraf shifted to Dubai hospital after 'reaction' from rare disease
[DAWN] Former military ruler retired Gen Pervez Perv Musharraf
... former dictator of Pakistain, who was less dictatorial and corrupt than any Pak civilian government to date ...
has been shifted to a hospital in Dubai after suffering a reaction from a rare disease for which he is already under treatment, his party said on Sunday.

The former president was rushed to the hospital as an "emergency" on Saturday night after his condition suddenly worsened, All Pakistain Moslem League (APML) Secretary-General Mehrene Adam Malik said.

APML Overseas President Afzaal Siddiqui told DawnNewsTV that Musharraf had suffered a reaction from amyloidosis, a rare condition for which the former president has been receiving medical care.

"He is expected to be discharged by tonight (Sunday night)," he said.

According to the party, the former military ruler has been advised complete bed rest by doctors till his full recovery. It asked the nation to pray for Musharraf's health.

Siddiqui had disclosed Musharraf's illness in October last year, saying the former president's disease had "weakened his nervous system". At the time, he was being treated for the condition in London.

"Due to amyloidosis, broken protein starts getting deposited in various organs," Siddiqui had explained. "[As a result] Pervez Musharraf has difficulty in standing and walking."

Not merely a lone wolf attack
[Ynet] Even if the terrorist acted alone, the facts indicate that he was trained and deliberate ‐ at a time when Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", does not lack reasons to ignite the West Bank in a wave of violence; The IDF ought to thoroughly investigate the behavior and alertness of the soldiers guarding the hitchhiking posts.

The latest information regarding Sunday morning’s terrorist attack at Ariel Junction that killed an Israeli and maimed two others is that the attacker was acting on his own initiative, a "lone wolf." However,
the way to a man's heart remains through his stomach...
this was no ordinary lone wolf attack; the perpetrator was unusually cold and calculated and likely had military training.

‘Shutting down seminaries post-Pulwama attack may send wrong message’
Sure, but not shutting them down at all sends an even wronger one. They are, after all, pretty exclusively in the business of creating Taliban cannon fodder.
[DAWN] "Shutting down madressahs in the aftermath of Pulwama is wrong timing. We should have done it anyway but our doing it now has India pointing fingers at us, saying that ’see Pakistain has had to take measures’ to prevent a repeat of the incident," said a retired general on Saturday.

Retired Lt Gen Tariq Waseem Ghazi, who also served as the defence secretary after his retirement from the army, was speaking at a programme on the future of the current stand-off between Pakistain and India at the Pakistain Institute of International Affairs.

"The trigger for the recent escalation between Pakistain and India is Pulwama, and Pulwama had nothing to do with us. It was nurtured and home-grown in India," he said.

"The present Indian government’s decision-making is done by their prime minister with the national security adviser. The nature of the Indian government is the nature of the deep state which functions through misinformation, sabotage, etc, to carry out their plans or game of getting an extra five years in power. So it is [linked] to political benefit," he added.

Jerusalem court orders closure of disputed building on Temple Mount
[IsraelTimes] Tensions have soared over shuttered Gate of Mercy site in recent weeks, with Paleostinian protesters ripping off its doors on Friday.

A Jerusalem court on Sunday ordered the temporary closure of a building at the center of rising tensions on the city’s Temple Mount in recent weeks.

The Jerusalem Magistrate’s Court said the building known as the Gate of Mercy or Golden Gate on the Temple Mount should be closed while legal proceedings continue.

The site’s administrator, the Waqf religious organization, was given 60 days to respond.

The Jordanian Foreign Ministry rapped the decision, arguing that the Jerusalem Magistrate’s Court did not even have the authority to rule on matters pertaining to the Temple Mount because it is "occupied territory."

"East Jerusalem, which includes the al-Aqsa Mosqua, is part of the Paleostinian lands occupied since 1967. The area is not subject to Israeli law," Amman said in a statement.
The point of winning a war and occupying conquered territory is that the conquerer’s law thereafter prevails. Y’all signed a peace treaty because you lost that war with Israel, O Jordan. Or to put it another way, dudes: you surrendered.
The foreign ministry called on Israel to cancel the court’s decision and not harm the status quo at the flashpoint site.

The court order came two days after Paleostinian worshipers ripped the doors off the building shortly after Friday prayers, despite instructions from the Waqf urging calm.

A group of protesters also raised the Paleostinian flag on the roof of the building, which was then removed by police.

The Gate of Mercy was sealed by Israeli authorities in 2003 because the group managing the area had ties to Hamas, a regional Iranian catspaw,, and it has been kept closed to stop illegal construction work there by the Waqf that Israeli officials said had caused irreparable harm to archaeologically significant parts of the holy site.

Israeli officials believe the work carried out by the Waqf, which refused to allow any Israeli observers, has led to the destruction of antiquities from periods of Jewish presence in the area.

The Waqf has repeatedly challenged the closure, convening and staging prayer-protests in the area that often erupted into festivities with police.

Last month, the Waqf reopened the site and Paleostinian worshipers began to use it as a mosque, despite Israeli attempts to keep the area sealed.

Since then, several low-level festivities have broken out between Paleostinian worshipers and Israeli security forces. On Thursday, police sealed off the entire Temple Mount after a Molotov cocktail was thrown at an officer, who was lightly hurt in the attack.

High-level Israeli and Jordanian officials have been holding talks in the hope of defusing the situation. Earlier this month, Israeli officials traveled to Jordan for meetings, and Jordanian officials have also visited Jerusalem, according to Israeli reports.

The talks were ongoing and the sides have yet to come to an agreement, the Haaretz daily reported this week

Jordan has suggested that the site be closed for long-term renovations. While the Israelis agree, they insist it must first be closed without renovations taking place, as a statement of Israeli authority. This disagreement has reportedly stood in the way of a deal.

Muslim Claim to Jerusalem is Taqijja/Deceit

Jerusalem is never mentioned in the Qur'an. In contrast, it is mentioned 823 times in the Bible, and Zion (which usually means Jerusalem, and sometimes "the Land of Israel"), appears 161 times. Of the 823 mentions of Jerusalem by name in the Bible, 669 of them are in the Old Testament, and 154 times in the New Testament. The Jews are the indigenous people of Jerusalem.
The Jews had lived in Israel almost 2000 years by the time Mohammed was born. Jesus was born in Bethlehem 600 years before Muhammed was born (= 7th Century).

The Qur'an refers to Muhammad's alleged "night journey" (isra) as follows:-"Glory to (Allah) Who did take his servant for a journey by night from the Sacred Mosque (in Mecca) to the farthest mosque-------------" (Subhana allathee asra biAAabdihi laylan mina almasjidi alharami ila almasjidi al-aqsa allathee barakna hawlahu linuriyahu min ayatina innahu huwa alssameeAAu albaseeru"). The claim of being "a holy place" is based on this dream described in the Koran. In the dream, Mohammed "visited" a place referred to as masjid el-aksa, which means "the farthest mosque".

But the El Aksa Mosque in Jerusalem was built about a hundred years after Mohammed. In Mohammed's time, Jerusalem was ruled by the Byzantine Christians, and there were no mosques at all in Jerusalem, not on the Temple Mount or anywhere else. So obviously, Mohammed couldn't have dreamed about a mosque that didn't exist.

• Solomon's Temple built 958-951 BC and destroyed by Nebuchadnezzar's Babylonian armies in 587 BC.
• Second Temple (King Herod) built 37-4 BC and destroyed by General Titus and his Roman soldiers in AD 70
• Muhammad born AD 572
• Muhammad's alleged "night journey" and mi'raj AD 622
• Muhammad died AD 632
• Dome of the Rock built by Amir Abd-ul-Malik AD 688-691

#3  Second Temple (King Herod) built 37-4 BC

A small quibble: you are thinking of Herod’s expansion and modernization of the second Temple, Woodrow. But before that a smaller temple had replaced the rubble of the first Temple; it was designed and built on the orders of Cyrus the Great seventy years after Nebuchadnezzar destroyed the edifice King Solomon had built.

"We heard sounds and we wondered what has happened. They (security forces) were trying to come inside the house. But they were not allowed by them (his security forces). After that, I made calls. I called to security (agencies), to Mr. (former President Hamid) Karzai and asked him that what has happened," Zaeef told TOLOnews.

Zaeef, who has been engaged in the peace talks, was Taliban’s ambassador to Pakistain before the US invasion of Afghanistan. He attended Moscow talks on Afghan peace in February and also he attended the Doha talks.

"I am cooperating in the grinding of the peace processor. This is my demand and my ambition that peace should come to Afghanistan. I have not done anything against anyone. I have no idea about it. Anyone who is doing this should find the motivation behind it."

He was detained in Pakistain in the fall of 2001 and held until 2005 in the Guantanamo Bay detainment camp. The United Nations

Following the US invasion, Zaeef was forced to end his news conferences, seized by Pak authorities, and handed over to American operatives.

Zaeef was released from Guantanamo in the summer of 2005. He has started a normal life in Kabul and also continued his political activities.

Nusrat Rahimi, a front man for Ministry of Interior, said rejected the news on raiding Mullah Zaeef’s house.

New Zealand mosque shooting suspect reportedly visited Israel in 2016; G’ma apologizes, mum & sis in police protection
[IsraelTimes] New Zealand mosque shooting suspect Brenton Tarrant visited Israel in 2016 for several days, Channel 13 news reports, as more details about the gunman emerge.

A senior immigration official tells the TV news station that Tarrant arrived in Israel from The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...Qatar's colony in Asia Minor....
on October 25 using his Australian passport. He was granted a 90-day tourist visa, and left the country nine days later.

The official says Tarrant did not raise red flags during security checks.

Earlier on Sunday, police in Greece said Tarrant had visited the Greek islands of Crete and Santorini, and had traveled through the country twice, all in 2016.

Authorities in Bulgaria, Turkey, Croatia, and Hungary have also confirmed visits by Tarrant between 2016 and 2018, as he apparently studied battles between Christians and the Ottoman Empire.

In a statement, Greek police said Tarrant entered the country twice in 2016 on transit flights on November 29 and December 10.

In March 2016, he entered the country on a flight from Istanbul and stayed for a few days in Heraklion, Crete and Santorini.

Authorities are investigating any phone calls or purchases Tarrant made in Greece. On Tarrant’s rifle was written the Greek word meaning "Turk-eater" or, metaphorically, "Turk-slayer."

'How could anyone in our family do this?' 'Shattered' grandmother of 'Christchurch gunman' reveals he went from computer nerd to extremist after overseas trip - says sorry to victims

[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] The grandmother of the white supremacist allegedly responsible for the massacre of 50 Moslem worshippers has apologised for her grandson's actions.

Marie Fitzgerald, 81, joined Brenton Tarrant's other grandmother Joyce in voicing her incredulity that her grandson was potentially capable of murder. She described the alleged killer as a computer enthusiast uninterested in girls when he was grew up in NSW.

She said his father's death at the hands of cancer in 2010 'took its toll' and prompted seven years of travelling through Europe
...also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
and Asia.

Other members of his family - including his sister and mother - have been taken into police protection .
Deutsche Welle adds:
New charges and ongoing investigation
  • On Monday afternoon an 18-year-old man appeared in a Christchurch court, charged with distributing the livestream video of the shooting and allegedly posting a photo of the mosque with the words "target acquired"; however investigators said he was not believed to have been directly involved in the attacks.

  • Meanwhile the accused shooter Tarrant said he did not want a lawyer and would represent himself in the case.

  • Earlier in the day Australian police announced they searched two homes in New South Wales in order to gather material related to Tarrant, a 28-year-old Australian citizen who was from this area.

Clashes hit Libya's Tripoli once again
[Libya Observer] Western Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
areas saw heavy fighting late on Saturday and early on Sunday between National Mobile Force and an gang of the general security apparatus, eyewitnesses reported.

The eyewitnesses added that the festivities in Ghout al-Shaal and al-Ghiran areas were triggered as anti-Khalifa Haftar
...Self-proclaimed Field Marshal, served in the Libyan army under Muammar Qadaffy, and took part in the coup that brought Qadaffy to power in 1969. He became a prisoner of war in Chad in 1987. While held prisoner, he and his fellow officers formed a group hoping to overthrow Qadaffy. He was released around 1990 in a deal with the United States government and spent nearly two decades in the United States, gaining US citizenship. In 1993, while living in the United States, he was convicted in absentia of crimes against the Jamahiriya and sentenced to death. Haftar held a senior position in the anti-Qadaffy forces in the 2011 Libyan Civil War. In 2014 he was commander of the Libyan Army when the General National Congress (GNC) refused to give up power in accordance with its term of office. Haftar launched a campaign against the GNC and its Islamic fundamentalist allies. His campaign allowed elections to take place to replace the GNC, but then developed into a civil war. Guess you can't win them all...
forces' button men handed over a pro-Haftar fighter named Mohammed al-Kashik to the mobile force.

Al-Kashik later denied the news of his detention on his Facebook page and then calm descended on the area.

Al-Kashik is pro-Haftar fighter who was involved in 2014 fighting in Tripoli. He then escaped to Zintan but is currently working at the general security apparatus headed by Emad al-Tarabulsi, who was pro-Haftar but later joined the Presidential Council and was tasked in security posts in western Tripoli.

No official statements have been made yet about the fighting.

Manhunt Underway After Two Shooting Attacks In West Bank, Settlers Throw Stones at Palestinians
[Jpost] A manhunt is underway in the West Bank for a Paleostinian who killed an IDF soldier and critically injured two other Israelis in two attacks outside the West Bank settlement of Ariel on Sunday morning.

Additional troops, including special forces and officers from the Shin Bet and Israel police, were deployed to search for the attacker who fled in the direction of the Paleostinian village of Burqin.

Authorities also briefly ordered the gate to the nearby Barkan industrial zone to be closed as well nearby Israeli communities to shut their entrances. The IDF also sealed off the entrances and exits to three local Paleostinian villages, Jamma’in, Kifl Haris and Deir Istiya near Nablus, in an effort to find the perpetrator.

According to IDF Spokesperson Brig.-Gen. Ronen Manelis, at around 9:45 a.m., a Paleostinian terrorist stabbed 19 year-old Sgt. Gal Keidan at the Ariel junction and stole his weapon and shot him before he shot toward civilians at the junction, hitting three cars passing through.

An Israeli civilian, 47 year-old Rabbi Ahiad Ettinger from the settlement of Eli was critically injured after he was struck by bullets while driving through the junction. Ettinger, has 12 children and heads Oz and Emunah Yeshiva in south Tel Aviv.

Keidan, from Beersheba was a combat soldier in the Artillery Corps’ 334th "Fire" brigade and who was posthumously promoted to the rank of St.-Sargent. The youngest of three siblings born to parents who immigrated to Israel in the 1970s from the former Soviet Union, he will be buried Monday at 11 AM in the military cemetery in Beersheba.

According to the military, after carrying out the attack in Ariel the attacker stole a car from a civilian who fled the attack and escaped the scene. The terrorist then drove toward the Gitai Avishar junction, where he carried out a drive-by shooting injuring another soldier who was guarding a hitchhiking station.

The injured were evacuated to Beilinson Hospital for medical treatment, with one at death's door with a head injury and the other in a very serious condition with a stomach injury.

"I happened to be passing by the Ariel junction with the car I use to teach driving lessons, when I happened upon the large amount commotion at the Ariel junction," MDA EMT Hananel Hess said. "I saw soldiers running and heard gunshots. I understood that this was out of the ordinary and I requested that MDA teams respond. Once the shooting stopped, I exited my vehicle and I saw an approximately 20-year-old patient lying unconscious on the ground with gunshot wounds to his upper body. We assessed him and found him to be at death's door."

According to Hebrew media reports, while there were four soldiers on duty at the Ariel Junction when the attacks began, none of them -including the soldier who had been standing next to Kaidan- opened fire on the assailant.

The commander of the force, who was stationed nearby with two other soldiers, opened fire on the Paleostinian and reportedly injured him in the shoulder.

The Gitai Avishar junction on Highway 5 is a central intersection of the highway which links Ariel to central Israel, with hundreds of Paleostinian workers traveling through it daily.

Both Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, and the Paleostinian Islamic Jihad
...created after many members of the Egyptian Moslem Brotherhood decided the organization was becoming too moderate. Operations were conducted out of Egypt until 1981 when the group was exiled after the assassination of President Anwar Sadat. They worked out of Gaza until they were exiled to Lebanon in 1987, where they clove tightly to Hezbollah. In 1989 they moved to Damascus, where they remain a subsidiary of Hezbollah...
(PIJ) terror groups welcomed the attacks, but did not claim responsibility.

The attack in Ariel was a "response to the crimes of the Israeli occupation, and to the events in Jerusalem and the al-Aqsa Mosque," Hamas said in a statement, adding that "all the acts of oppression and attempts to undermine the resistance will not succeed in defeating the will of our people or preventing them from following the path of jihad."

PIJ said that the attack "was carried out in order to move the compass and bring the struggle to its natural location. We welcome the attack and salute the rebel heroes in the West Bank."

Israelis in West Bank said to throw stones at Palestinians after terror attack

[IsraelTimes] After an IDF soldier was killed Sunday morning in a West Bank attack, and two other Israelis were critically hurt, Israelis in several West Bank locations threw stones at Paleostinian vehicles and homes, causing damage and some injuries, the Yesh Din rights group said later in the day.

In the hours after the fatal attack, there were several incidents of Israelis attacking Paleostinians in the northern West Bank, Yesh Din said in a statement.

"Acts of vengeance following the attack this morning may lead to the loss of additional lives, and harm innocent people whose only ’crime’ is that they are Paleostinians," the statement said.

Three workers in the Paleostinian electric company required treatment for their injuries after their car was hit by rocks near the Shavei Shomoron settlement. They were taken to a hospital in Nablus, the statement said.

On Route 55, in the northeastern West Bank, Israelis threw rocks at cars in the entrance to the Paleostinian village of Jinsafut, breaking the windshields of some of the vehicles.

Israelis threw rocks at homes in the towns of Hawara and Asira al-Qibliya, the rights group said. Rocks were also thrown at Paleostinians near the village of Jit.

Palestinian teenager caught with knife at Tomb of the Patriarchs
Suicidal, escape an impossible situation, wanted to make some money for her family, actually hoped to kill for the glory of Allah? So many reasons, but almost always they’re picked up before they accomplish anything serious.
[IsraelTimes] Security forces detained a Paleostinian teenage girl who tried to sneak a knife into the Tomb of the Patriarchs in the West Bank city of Hebron on Sunday, police said.

Border Police officers became suspicious of the teenager as she approached a security stand close to the religious site.

A search uncovered the knife, and when the officers instructed her to follow their orders, she began brandishing the weapon at them, according to police.

Officers overpowered the suspect without using weapons and detained her for questioning.

The incident came after earlier Sunday an IDF soldier was killed, another was maimed, and a civilian critically hurt in a stabbing and shooting attack near the settlement of Ariel in the northern West Bank.

The Tomb of the Patriarchs is sanctified by Jews and Moslems as the burial place of the biblical patriarchs Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob and matriarchs Sarah, Rebecca and Leah. In recent years, there have been numerous incidents of Paleostinians trying to smuggling knives into the complex, as well as stabbing attacks on Israelis.

Iranians arrested in Buenos Aires with poorly forged Israeli passports
[IsraelTimes] Authorities in Argentina
...a country located on the other side of the Deep South. It is covered with Pampers and inhabited by Grouchos, who dance the Tangle. They used to have some islands called the Malvinas located where the Falklands are now. They're not supposed to cry for Evita...
said to raise alert level after catching pair traveling on documents riddled with Hebrew mistakes, note proximity to embassy bombing anniversary.

Authorities in Buenos Aires have locked away
Drop the gat, Rocky, or you're a dead 'un!
two Iranians suspected of traveling on fake Israeli passports, according to local Argentinean media.

Police are treating the two, a man and woman, as possible terror suspects, and have raised the alertness level, daily Clarin reported.

The couple, named as Sajjad Naserani, 27, and Mahsoreh Sabzali, 30, were arrested last week after they entered Argentina on the apparently fake passports.

The passports listed their names as Netanel and Rivka Toledano. The passport ID numbers actually belonged to a French-Israeli couple named as David and Brigitte Assouline, according to Argentinean media.

Authorities initially suspected the passports had been stolen and doctored, but later concluded they were fake after finding several spelling mistakes in Hebrew. One picture of the passports carried in Argentinian media shows the word "Israel" misspelled, among many other flubs.

The couple had flown from Spain to Buenos Aires last week and were allowed into the country before being arrested at a hotel days later. The investigation involved branches of Interpol in Argentina, Spain and Israel, according to Clarin.

Naserani, who claimed to be a photographer, was arrested with a camera. The two said that they had made their way to Spain via The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...Qatar's colony in Asia Minor....
and Greece, La Nacion reported.

Officials said they had raised the alert level because of the proximity to the anniversary of the March 17, 1992 bombing of the Israeli embassy in Buenos Aires, Clarin reported.

"This of course raises the level of alertness, and so I understand it is essential to maximize all security and prevention measures," prosecuting judge Luis Rodriguez said, according to the news site.

Iran and its Hezbollah proxy have been widely blamed for both the embassy bombing, which killed 29 people, and an attack on the AMIA Jewish center two years later that left 85 dead.

There was no immediate comment from Iranian officials.

MASSOB condemns the alleged killing of Christians in parts of the country
[PULSE.NG] The Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) has condemned the alleged killing of Christians in some parts of the country.

The group made this known in a statement issued to newsmen by its front man, Comrade Samuel Edeson in Ebonyi state.

MASSOB also called on Igbos to be vigilant and take on the responsibility of securing their areas.

The statement reads: "It is very unfortunate that these ethnic cleansing commenced immediately after presidential election which INEC was subjected to announce Mohammed Buhari as winner.

"MASSOB remind the citizens that prior to the presidential election mostly within the campaign periods, the terrorist activities of Fulani herdsmen suddenly reduced because Mohammadu Buhari and his Fulani cabals controlling Nigeria Federal government does not want to refresh the damaging effects of the activities of Fulani herdsmen in the consciousness of the people because of their votes.

"It is very disheartening that overwhelming evidences abounds on the incessant, systematic and well coordinated attacks, killings and ethnic cleansing of Christian dominated villages of Kaduna, Taraba, Benue, Plateau and Ebonyi States recently after presidential election that was executed by Fulani herdsmen. The security agents in their bid to deceive the international communities will label the attackers as button men instead of the real culprits.

"Having clinched power through dubious and corruptible means, MASSOB reminds the people of Biafra to be more vigilant and conscious of their residential environment because President Mohammadu Buhari led federal government and his Fulani/APC cabals will unleash many dangerous and systematic mayhem that will subject the cowardly people of Nigeria to political and economical islamisation of Nigeria. This is the religious command and ordinances of Othman Dan Fodio of the Islamic caliphate.

"MASSOB also congratulate the people of Biafra for harkening unto our directives in supporting and voting for the candidates we presented to pilots the political space of Biafra land."

MASSOB also congratulated politicians from the South-East who were victorious in the just concluded elections, and urged them to always promote the interest of Igbos.

Puzzling number of men tied to Ferguson protests have died
[MSN] Two young men were found dead inside torched cars. Three others died of apparent suicides. Another collapsed on a bus, his death ruled an overdose.

Six deaths, all involving men with connections to protests in Ferguson, Missouri, drew attention on social media and speculation in the activist community that something sinister was at play.

Police say there is no evidence the deaths have anything to do with the protests stemming from a white police officer's fatal shooting of 18-year-old Michael Brown, and that only two were homicides with no known link to the protests.

But some activists say their concerns about a possible connection arise out of a culture of fear that persists in Ferguson 4 ½ years after Brown's death, citing threats ‐ mostly anonymous ‐ that protest leaders continue to receive.

The Rev. Darryl Gray said he found a box inside his car. When the bomb squad arrived, no explosives were found but a 6-foot (1.8-meter) python was inside.

"Everybody is on pins and needles," Gray said of his fellow activists.

No arrests have been made in the two homicides. St. Louis County police front man Shawn McGuire said witnesses have simply refused to come forward, leaving detectives with no answers for why the men were targeted.

"We don't believe either one was connected to each other," McGuire said, but adding, "It's tough to come up with a motive without a suspect."

Ferguson erupted in protests in August 2014 after officer Darren Wilson fatally shot Brown during a street confrontation. Brown was unarmed, but Wilson said he fired in self-defense when the black teenager came at him menacingly.

A grand jury declined to charge Wilson in November 2014, prompting one of the most violent nights of demonstrations, and one of the first activist deaths.

Deandre Joshua's body was found inside a burned car blocks from the protest. The 20-year-old was shot in the head before the car was torched.

Darren Seals, shown on video comforting Brown's mother that same night, met an almost identical fate two years later. The 29-year-old's well perforated carcass was found inside a burning car in September 2016.

Four others also died, three of them ruled suicides.

#4  It's overambitious software. Maybe the plane is hard to fly. I have seen no conclusive proof yet of that assertion. One train of arguments says the engines had to be set too far ahead of the wings due to size. If Boeing engineers actually signed off on something that flawed, the problem is institutional. “Fetch the bigger hammer ... and a fist-sized rock!” Yes, I did marry an engineer, bless him. Why the building inspector was unhappy after all that time is utterly inexplicable to certain parties.
Posted by: trailing wife || 03/18/2019 9:04 Comments || Top||

#9  There are engineering trade-offs for each placement Murcek.

On the back means the tail is heavy and they have to adjust the angle of attack of the engines or wings for level flight, or program software to do it. Also is noisier for the passengers.

On the wings and away from the body allows for more stable flight and reduces noise, but can increase metal fatigue and stress on the wings. Also if an engine goes horribly wrong it can shower the body and with with shrapnel in that location.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
SDF: Estimated 5,000 ISIS fighters and their families remain in Baghouz, intense clashes, 7 turbans airstruck
[Rudaw] The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) said on Sunday that according to intelligence gathered from Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS) members and civilians who have fled and surrendered, "approximately 5,000 fighters and their family members" remain in al-Baghouz.

"Our forces have won great victories against terrorist ISIS organization. The fighting is now confined to a small area in al-Baghouz town in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor," SDF front man Kino Gabriel told news hounds during a presser near the town.

He detailed that "turbans and their families who surrendered to our forces [is] 29,600." Additionally, "the number of turbans tossed in the clink
Book 'im, Mahmoud!
in special operations by our forces [is] 520."

The SDF began its final phase of Jazira Storm on January 9.

After our forces had evacuated thousands of civilians who had been used as "human shields" by terrorists, the terrorist organization had been besieged in the town.

Gabriel explained that 37,000 civilians have been evacuated.

"Under the blows of our forces and in support of the international coalition to provide air support; a large part of the elements of the organization and their families forced to surrender to our forces, while hundreds of them were killed and others maimed," Gabriel said.

He claimed the SDF has killed "1,306 turbans in addition to a large number of maimed."

While the SDF put their casualties at 11 killed, and 61 injured.

To the west in Deir ez-Zor governorate near the town of al-Huraibisha, a landmine killed 16 people and injured at least 30 people, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR).

The UK-based rights monitor said a car carrying people who were collecting truffles detonated the mine.

SOHR also reported that information on the whereabouts of the Orthodox Syriac Bishop of Aleppo Yohanna Ibrahim was obtained from ISIS members trying to escape through tunnels from Baghouz into Iraq.

Gabriel said during his presser that Iraqi forces in Anbar province discovered three tunnels being used by ISIS. He did not reveal any information about the bishop.

ISIS is being squeezed by the SDF on three axes with their backs to the Euphrates River. The area they control has been described as about 500 square-kilometers.

The SDF continue to receive support, advice, and assistance from the US-led international anti-ISIS coaliton.

The coalition's Operation Roundup began on May 1, 2018, with the aim to clear ISIS from the Middle Euphrates River Valley ‐ the group's last bastion east of the river.
The Times of Israel adds:
SDF spokesman Kino Gabriel says the camp was approximately 250 square kilometers in size — much the same area it was five weeks ago, when the SDF said it was going to finally conclude the battle.

ISIS brides flee Baghouz amid intense clashes with SDF

[ALMASDARNEWS] Footage filmed near Baghouz on Saturday shows wives and children of IS holy warriors fleeing the last IS stronghold in eastern Syria. IS family members fled the eastern Syrian village, after 1,300 fighters reportedly surrendered following intense festivities, according to the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

The wife of a fallen IS holy warrior, who claimed her name was Saffyia, said that she had come to Syria from Istanbul "five years ago." She said that she followed her husband to Syria, noting, "He came here, then I followed him."

The wife of another killed IS fighter, a Finnish national who identified herself as Manija Kismar, said that she also had come to Syria with her husband and has been in the country for "three years."

bad boyz were potted Sunday in an air raid by the U.S.-led international coalition in eastern Syria, an Iraqi military source said.

Speaking to Baghdad Today news website, the source said that the international coalition jet fighters targeted an underground hideout of Islamic State gunnies in the last jihadists’ enclave in Baghuz near the Iraqi border.

"The air raid left seven IS gunnies killed, including a prominent leader," the source added.

Coupled with U.S.-led Arclight airstrikes, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) fighters have increasingly been attacking several IS positions inside Baghuz.

On Wednesday, the Kurdish-led SDF waged a major assault in the center of Baghuz, local military officials said.

"Now, we are carrying out strikes against IS. Hopefully, we will clear them from this last speck of territory soon," an SDF fighter who did not want to be identified told VOA.

Located on the eastern bank of the Euphrates, Baghuz has been under attack for more than a month, with several hundred IS fighters still resisting SDF advances.

"Geography is a major factor in prolonging this fight and delaying our ultimate victory" in Baghuz, said Mustafa Bali, a spokesperson for SDF.

UN envoy says Hamas violently suppressed Gaza protests
[PULSE.NG] A United Nations

envoy condemned Gazoo's Islamist rulers Hamas, the braying voice of Islamic Resistance®, on Sunday, accusing the group of violently suppressing peaceful protests.

Since Thursday hundreds of Paleostinians have taken to the streets in multiple locations throughout the Gazoo Strip, protesting the rising cost of living in the Paleostinian enclave.

workers, with security forces using violence to break up the demonstrations, according to rights groups.

"I strongly condemn the campaign of arrests and violence used by Hamas security forces against protesters, including women and kiddies, in Gazoo over the past three days," UN envoy to Israel and the Paleostinian territories Nickolay Mladenov said in a statement.

"I am particularly alarmed by the brutal beating of journalists and staff from the Independent Commission for Human Rights and the raiding of homes."

"The long-suffering people of Gazoo were protesting the dire economic situation and demanded an improvement in the quality of life in the Gazoo Strip. It is their right to protest without fear of reprisal."

Hamas, which has not yet commented on Mladenov's accusations, has controlled Gazoo since pushing out rivals Fatah in 2007.

Since then the group has fought three wars with Israel, with the Jewish state maintaining a crippling blockade of the enclave.

Afghanistan
Battles Intensify Amid Efforts For Peace
[ToloNews] As the new war season inches closer, battles have intensified between Afghan forces and Talibs in different parts of the country at a time that the group just wrapped up 16-day talks with US negotiators to find a political settlement to the conflict in Afghanistan.

Heavy battles were reported in the past two days in southern and western parts of the country which inflicted casualties to both sides.

Badghis has been a volatile province in the northwest of the country over the past 10 days after a group of Taliban

attacked government forces outposts in Bala Murghab district in the province ‐ which shares border with Turkmenistan.

Officials said on Saturday that more than a dozen security force members left their bases in Murichaq area in Badghis’s Bala Murghab district and fled to the bordering areas between Afghanistan and Turkmenistan.

Around 20 Afghan soldiers were killed in Bala Murghab festivities, security officials said, adding that Taliban also suffered heavy fatalities.

Zmarai Faizi, Commander of 207 Zafar Military Corps, said at least 50 Taliban fighters were killed in Arclight airstrikes carried out by the Afghan Air Force.

Footage released by Ministry of Defense shows Afghan Air Force targeting a Taliban hideout in Bala Murghab district on Friday night.

The Ministry of Interior Affairs said comprehensive plans are underway to address security challenges.

"The new leadership of the Interior Ministry has effective and comprehensive plans on law enforcement, fighting crimes, fighting intoxicants and fighting terror," said Nusrat Rahimi, a front man for Ministry of Interior Affairs.

CIVILIAN CASUALTIES
Some residents of Zurmat district in Paktia province, who took bodies of five civilians to the bucolic provincial capital on Saturday, said the non-combatants were killed on in an Afghan forces operation in the district on Friday night.

"Last night at around 10 pm, they came and conducted the attack," said Timor, a resident of Zurmat.

"The victims were working on their agricultural lands and everyone knows this," said Rasul Khan, a Zurmat resident.

In the northern Kunduz province, some people gathered in Kunduz city and called on warring parties to announce a ceasefire.

Kunduz city has fallen to gunnies twice in the last four years.

"We want both sides to announce a ceasefire," said Sayed Parwiz, a Kunduz resident.

"We are tired of war. We do not want to people to be killed, and we do not want our sons to become orphans or wives to become widows," said Shirzai, a Kunduz resident.

Policeman killed in gunmen attack on Sabha patrol in southern Libya
[Libya Observer] The Libyan Interior Ministry condemned Saturday the armed attack on a patrol for the security department in Sabha, southern Libya, killing one policeman.

The ministry added that one of the attackers was injured and is receiving medical treatment in Sabha Medical Center, saying two others were detained.

Sabha security department announced the attack on the patrol at Khamsa October roundabout on Friday.

"While on duty checking papers of drivers at the roundabout, a group of outlaws opened fire on the patrol." The media office of the department said, adding that one attacker is receiving treatment and the rest are being searched for.

A massive security vacuum is sweeping through Sabha and the rest of southern Libya after Khalifa Haftar
...Self-proclaimed Field Marshal, served in the Libyan army under Muammar Qadaffy, and took part in the coup that brought Qadaffy to power in 1969.
's self-styled army force has left after a brief control on the region.

Mayor of Sabha Hamid al-Khayali blamed last week the security deterioration on Haftar's general command as they are not handling the violations on "fake checkpoints" which are robbing people under the forces' sight.

There are mounting signs of military planning for Venezuela
[MILITARYTIMES] President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
has been talking about ordering a military operation targeting Venezuela since 2017.

At first, that was widely dismissed as a rash threat, but the idea of a U.S. effort to force "regime change" in the oil-rich South American country may be gaining momentum in Washington.

"It’s a regime that, frankly, could be toppled very quickly by the military if the military decides to do that," Trump said in September.

In January, National Security Adviser John Bolton flashed a notebook that read "5,000 troops to Colombia."

And on Monday, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo ordered all U.S. diplomats to leave Venezuela, saying their presence there "has become a constraint on U.S. policy," hinting at opening potential military options.

Speculation about a military assault on Venezuela was also fueled by Trump’s recent appointment of a former George W. Bush administration official who was an architect of the Iraq War, Elliot Abrams, to be the new "Special Representative for Venezuela."

Heightened concerns prompted the Democratic-led House Foreign Affairs Committee to meet Wednesday to debate a bill that would prohibit Trump from taking military action in Venezuela without congressional approval.

White House officials say "all options on the table," including a military intervention or military support of allies in the region.

Ehud Barak's phone and computer hacked by Iranian intelligence - report
[Jpost] Former prime minister Ehud Barak had his phone and computer tapped by Iranians, according to the head of the Shin Bet, Nadav Argaman.

Israel's Channel 12 released a report on Sunday that said an infiltration into the former prime minister's phone was detected about six months ago.

Sources close to the case claimed that it did not seem like the Iranians themselves hacked the phone, but rather purchased the information from hackers. The information that appears to have been taken is not vital, according to the report.

This release came in the wake of last week's report that Blue and White Party leader Benny Gantz's phone was hacked by Iranian intelligence, who managed to steal its contents.

in the infamous Ramsha Wassan murder case were on Saturday produced in the Khairpur Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) upon expiry of their physical remand.

The prime suspect, Zulfiqar Wassan aka Zulfoo along with his associates nominated in the case, Ghaffar Wassan and Sabir Wassan, were produced in the ATC amid stringent security as Zulfoo appeared to have alleged political clout and scores of cases of heinous crime registered against him over the last many years.

The Khairpur police also produced the crime weapon, a TT pistol allegedly used in Ramsha’s murder, and informed the court that it was used by Sabir Wassan and seized from him during investigation of the case.

The court acceded to the police’s request for an extension of the three suspects’ remand for three days for further interrogation.

Ramsha, 13, was rubbed out on Feb 3 and her mother alleged that Zulfoo and his associates killed her after she had chosen to marry one of her cousins against the will of an influential person of the area. The mother claimed that her daughter was first kidnapped and a few days after she was recovered, the suspect stormed into their house and gunned her down.

During the investigation, the police arrested the cook of a feudal lord, MNA Nawab Wassan, who had allegedly been in constant touch with Zulfoo before Ramsha was murdered. According to preliminary investigation, Zulfoo is a nephew of Nawab Wassan.

At least 8 dead as gunmen storm Mali army camp
[PULSE.NG] Suspected jihadists killed at least eight people Sunday in a raid on an army camp in central Mali, military and security sources said, warning the toll could rise.

Driving cars and cycle of violences, the attackers stormed Dioura army camp in the Mopti region at dawn, leaving "many soldiers dead or missing", a military source said.

Separately, a Malian security source spoke of "a heavy toll of at least eight dead".

"There are dead soldiers, others are missing and still others are maimed," he said, but could not confirm reports from local villagers that up to 15 troops had died.

A second military source said the troops had tried to fight off the attackers.

"Our men responded. I saw at least four bodies on the ground. We don't have an exact toll yet but there is a lot of damage," he said.

A foreign security source said local residents estimated at least 15 people had been killed.

President Ibrahim Boubakar Keita, on Twitter, said the Malian people were "united against terrible acts", without giving any corpse count.

Once a beacon of democracy and stability in Africa, Mali in recent years has been dogged by a coup, civil war and Islamist terrorism.
The Jerusalem Post adds:
Gunmen attacked and briefly seized a Malian army base overnight, killing at least 16 soldiers and destroying five vehicles in central Mali's Mopti region, two local councilors in the area where the attack happened said on Sunday.

The base is in the village of Dioura, the mayor of the nearest town Kareri, Youssouf Coulibaly, told Rooters from inside it. Central Mali has in the past few years been overrun by jihadists with links to al Qaeda.

Libya's Fatwa House condemns terrorist mosque attacks in New Zealand
[Libya Observer] The Libyan Fatwa House has expressed sadness for the "terrorist attacks on Moslems" in two New Zealand mosques, where tens were killed and others injured as they were praying.

The Fatwa House added in a statement on Saturday that the terrorist attack was not an individual act or an act of an insane person, rather it was driven by the culture of hatred and violence fueled by western thinkers to target Islam and Moslems.

It also said that the New Zealand attacks came as part of a string of attacks targeting Moslems in the western world and this kind of behavior is part of the war on Islam.
