Sandy Berger Dead

Former National Security Adviser Sandy Berger, who served under President Bill Clinton, has died at the age of 70 from cancer.
conveeeenient for Hillary!
Berger's legacy was marred, however, when he pleaded guilty in 2005 to removing highly classified documents from the National Archives in Washington the previous year. The inspector general of the National Archives said that a staff member had witnessed the former NSA adviser wrapping the classified documents around his socks and under his pants.

He was fined $50,000, sentenced to two years' probation and stripped of his security clearance for three years. Following a Justice Department investigation and subsequent congressional hearings, Berger voluntarily gave up his license to practice law in 2007.

"While I derived great satisfaction from years of practicing law, I have not done so for 15 years and do not envision returning to the profession," Berger said, according to a contemporaneous Associated Press report, "I am very sorry for what I did, and deeply apologize.

#5  from wiki: "But the House Government Reform Committee later revealed that an unsupervised Berger had been given access to classified files of original, uncopied, uninventoried documents on terrorism. During the House Government Reform Committee hearings, Nancy Kegan Smith acknowledged that she had granted Berger access to original materials in her office."

No indication anywhere I can find that they even knew what documents were taken, and no indication any were found. They just observed him hiding documents on his person. Berger later testified he had hidden documents during an unsupervised break, then retrieved them.

[Daily Caller] A federal court is being asked to order release of all documents concerning former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's involvement in clearing a massive deal that helped one of her financial benefactors and substantial U.S. uranium resources in Russian control.

Posted by: European Conservative || 12/02/2015 17:12 Comments || Top||

#10  Over in the States, lawyers are officers of the court. While they represent the accused, they are also responsible to uphold the law. Thus, if the lawyer knows that the law is being broken, they have a duty to the court to report it as such. Thus the old movie meme "Don't tell me. I don't want to know". Unfortunately, when they do know and don't act, they themselves become accessories to the fact. If they discover culpable information about their client, they may asked to be recused and lawyer-client privilege kicks in. See - Lynne Stewart.

#11  I think that in this case, there was almost no doubt that Tsarnaev was guilty. What she is trying to do is to minimize his sentence from death to something less. Like maybe time served or something. After all, he did lose his brother.

#12  Exactly right, EC. However, a lawyer can withdraw from representation if the scumbag is just too evil. Clarke probably does it because she enjoys the limelight, and perhaps gets a thrill from privileged personal access to all of these Hannibal Lechters.

Noble Savage Activist Made Death Threats To Students & Faculty
[Daily Caller] A 24-year-old racial activist has been charged with creating a false public alarm after reportedly making death threats to black students and faculty at her alma mater Kean University in New Jersey.

Kayla-Simone McKelvey, a self-described race activist, reportedly used a university computer to make death threats to the black students and faculty at Kean University from a fake Twitter account.

Authorities say McKelvey was on campus for a rally against racial intolerance, which she briefly left in order to post the threats online. She then returned to the rally to spread "awareness" of the threats being made against black students.

According to her Linkedin profile, McKelvey was the president of the Pan African Student Union and the 2014 Homecoming Queen during her time as a student at Kean University.

China's Cloning Crusade: Technology for Human Replication '€˜Already There'
[Breitbart] The CEO and lead scientist of the world's largest cloning factory says that they now have technology capable of replicating human beings.

"The technology is already there," said Xu Xiaochun, the 44-year-old Chairman of the Boyalife group, which is building the $31 million cloning factory. "If this is allowed, I don't think there are other companies better than Boyalife that make better technology."

The company intends to begin operations in the first half of 2016 in Tianjin, a city some 100 miles southeast of Beijing.

Though the principal goal of the 150,000-square-foot facility will be cloning cattle, company executives aren't closing the door to other species, including humans.

"Unfortunately, currently, the only way to have a child is to have it be half its mum, half its dad," said Xu.

UnitedHealth CEO regrets entering ObamaCare
The CEO of UnitedHealthCare on Tuesday said he regretted the decision to enter the ObamaCare marketplace last year, which the company says has resulted in millions of dollars in losses.

"It was for us a bad decision," UnitedHealth CEO Stephen Hemsley said at an investor's meeting in New York, according to Bloomberg Business.
Too bad nobody warned them, huh...
UnitedHealth, the country's largest insurer, announced last month that it would no longer advertise its ObamaCare plans over the next year and may pull out completely in 2016 ‐ a move that sent shockwaves across the healthcare sector.
It was only a shock to those that weren't paying attention
Hemsley's remarks double down on his earlier warning that the ObamaCare exchanges remain weaker than expected after two years and that it will take far longer for insurers to profit from the millions of new enrollees.

The company had already eyed ObamaCare's federal marketplace cautiously since it launched in 2013. UnitedHealth only began selling plans on the exchanges last year. Now, UnitedHealth officials have said that move will result in a half-billion dollars in losses over two years.

Hemsley said it was smart to sit out of the exchanges for the first year, but that the company should have held out another year.
Should have held out forever
"In retrospect, we should have stayed out longer," he said, adding that he believes the marketplace will take more than "a season or two" to develop.
Or forever.
"We did not believe it would form this slowly, be this porous, or become this severe," he said.
Then you weren't paying attention and don't deserve to be the CEO. It is designed to fail and take you and your ilk with it.

#3  Thecompany had already eyed ObamaCare's federal marketplace cautiously since it launched in 2013. UnitedHealth only began selling plans on the exchanges last year.

Shareholder suit would permit discovery to find who put pressure on them to make such a move if they hadn't jumped in at the very beginning.

#4  This is a problem for UHC because HHS is welshing on the 3R's which were supposed to protect carriers from losses as the sick and only the sick signed up for "free" healthcare.

HHS paid carriers in full the first couple years, but are now paying 17 cents on the dollar.

Considering UHC is a big player the Corp Welfare game via Medicare and Medicaid this is either a pathetic miscalculation on their part, or simple rice bowl rattling for more govt succor.

Hillary's emails begin to bear fruit
A former top policy aide to then-secretary of state Hillary Clinton proposed a "pledge for Palestine" fundraising initiative that would have a "shaming effect on Israel" while bolstering the Palestinian leadership, newly declassified State Department emails show.

Anne-Marie Slaughter, who served as Clinton's director of policy planning at Foggy Bottom from 2009 until 2011, wrote the email to senior Clinton staffers in late September 2010, just before the anticipated expiration of Israel's 10-month moratorium on construction in West Bank settlements.

after searches of their homes on Sunday turned up hand guns, grenades, audio and video discs and flags of the Islamic State. He said Sherlocks were now working to establish the extent of their involvement with the Lion of Islam group operating in Syria and Iraq.

The suspects are from the western Guria region near the Black Sea, home to many Muslims in the predominantly Christian former Soviet republic. Most previous arrests in Georgia for suspected IS ties and recruitment efforts have involved people from the northeastern Pankisi Gorge, the home of many ethnic Chechens.

in southern Tunisia and flown to La Belle France on November 13, the day of the Gay Paree attacks.

It is the first time French citizens have been held trying to join jihadists in Libya, where an IS affiliate group holds the city of Sirte, the hometown of the country's deposed leader Muammar Qadaffy
... who had more funny outfits than Louis XIV...
The two men, one from Lyon and the other from the southern port of Marseille, did not know each other before meeting up in Tunisia, a source said. The 20-year-old girlfriend of one of the men, a convert to Islam who authorities said had at one stage intended to join her partner in Libya, has also been charged with terrorist offenses.

Security officials in the north African country believe that the jihadists who carried out the bloody attacks on the Bardo Museum in the capital Tunis in March, and on tourist hotels in Sousse in June, were trained in Libya.

I think on days when a lot of small arrests happen, yes, Ebbang Uluque6305. On (hopefully rare) bad days, like the Paris attacks when there were frequent updates over the course of the day, we'll handle it as we have, Shipman -- a post for the beginning of events, then updates in the thread as we go along and cross-links to other articles as appropriate. And on days when only one or two things happen, each can have its own post. Thanks to our uniquely clever president, 70 post days have become common; I find dealing with that much information overwhelming if I can't organize it into fewer chunks.

Two wannabe stab attackers killed, one woman carrying knife arrested
[IsraelTimes] A Paleostinian woman was shot Tuesday morning as she tried to stab an IDF officer at a checkpoint adjacent to the Einav settlement in the northern West Bank, the army said. The officer responded with fire in her direction and she was killed. There were no injuries to IDF troops.

The attacker was later identified as Maram Ramiz Hassouna, 19, from Nablus, Paleostinian media reported.

The incident came some two hours after an attempted stabbing at the Gush Etzion Junction, just south of Jerusalem. Soldiers rubbed out a knife-wielding attacker who approached people waiting at a hitchhiking stop, the army said. One Israeli man was lightly injured by shrapnel from the bullets directed at the attacker, police and the army said. The Magen David Adom first-aid service evacuated him to the Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital in Jerusalem.

The attacker was later identified as Mahmoud El-Khatib, 16, from the nearby Paleostinian village of Beit Fajjar.

Several minutes after the incident at the Gush Etzion Junction, an Israeli man was stabbed in Jerusalem's Beit Yisrael neighborhood. Although the man claimed to have been stabbed by an Arab, police later dispelled the notion that it was a terror attack.

Meanwhile,

A recent rash of Paleostinian attacks in Israel and the West Bank has killed more than 20 people since the beginning of October. Over 80 percent of the perpetrators have come from the West Bank. Some 100 Paleostinians have been killed, most of whom were targeted while they were allegedly attacking Israelis. Others were killed in festivities with Israeli security forces.

French court rules in favor of Libyan side to keep Gaddafi’s luxurious plane
A French court Monday ruled in favor of the Libyan side which claims ownership of late Gaddafi’s luxurious plane also claimed by a Kuwaiti group to which the former Libyan regime owes millions of euros.

The Airbus A340 plane was seized by the Kuwaiti al-Kharafi conglomerate following a ruling of a Cairo court in 2013.
An A340? Daffy didn't dream small, did he...
The Gaddafi regime had signed a contact with the Kuwaiti group in 2006 to build a beach resort on Libya’s Mediterranean coast, which it was to run for 90 years but the Libyan regime suspended the contract unilaterally.

And in 2013, a Cairo court ruled in favor of the Kuwaiti group which was to receive €935 million in compensation for the breach of the contract. The Kuwaiti group then seized the plane which was grounded in southern France for maintenance. The Libyan side’s lawyer, Carole Sportes, expressed satisfaction at the French court ruling that ends the Kuwaiti seizure of the plane.

Tribal leaders ask ISIS to withdraw from Shaddadi
ISIS will get right on that...
[ARA News] QAMISHLI – Arab tribal leaders in the northeastern Syrian province of Hasakah have reportedly proposed an initiative to the radical group of Islamic State (ISIS) urging the group to withdraw “peacefully” from its last stronghold in the province, namely Shaddadi city, local sources reported on Tuesday.

The initiative aims to avoid a possible military operation on the ISIS-held city by the Kurdish-Arab alliance of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) –who were able to recapture the key town of al-Hawl and more than 210 other towns and villages in Hasakah province from the terror group over the past few weeks.

“The tribal initiative comes after the SDF has made significant progress in the southern countryside of Hasakah at the expense of Daesh, seizing al-Hawl town, which was considered a key bastion for the terror group in the region, beside many other areas,” an informed source in Shaddadi told ARA News, using the Arabic acronym for ISIS.

The Kurdish-Arab alliance announced last week the liberation of the al-Melebiya military base in Hasakah countryside from ISIS.

Activists reported on Tuesday that the initiative comes in order to avoid civilian casualties or the collapse of the economic infrastructure of the Shaddadi city as a result of possible devastating battles between the joint forces, backed by warplanes of the U.S.-led coalition, and the radical group.

An informed source said that ISIS extremists started evacuating some of their locations in Shaddadi and its environs.

“The group withdrew from the Hasakah Dam (also known as al-Basel Dam) and several other points in preparation for the upcoming military operation by the SDF and the US.-led coalition.”

“ISIS militants began to transfer their families along with some military equipment from Shaddadi to the province of Deir ez-Zor in eastern Syria,” the source told ARA News on the condition of anonymity.

The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) haven’t issued any statement concerning a possible compromise with ISIS over Shaddadi.

Senior Arab politician gunned down in Iraq's Kirkuk
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The most senior Arab member of the Kirkuk provincial council was bumped off Tuesday in the northern Iraqi city, officials said, a killing likely to stoke tensions in the province.

Oil-rich Kirkuk is claimed by Iraq's three-province autonomous Kurdish region, which currently holds a large part of the province, and by the federal government in Baghdad.

Pressure Mounts on Puntalnd leader to Sign Peace Deal
International and national pressure is mounting on Puntland leader Abdiwali Mohamed Ali Gaas to sign a peace deal to end Galkayo fighting with his Galmudug counterpart Abdikarin Hussein Guled. UN envoy for Somalia Nickolas Kay, EU ambassador, diplomats and Somali prime minister Omar Abdirashid Sharmarke held a meeting with Puntland leader in northern Galkayo on Tuesday.

On Monday, president Abdiwali Mohamed Ali Gas has declined to ink the peace deal proposed by Somali premier and the country’s regional leaders, saying he would not sit down with Galmudug leader on the negotiating table.

Mr Gaas insists that his admin has an ample evidence that show the Somali National Army sided with Galmudug state troops and engaged to attack Puntland forces in northern Galkayo on 22, November.

Puntland and Galmudug forces battled over the construction of a road, which Puntland is trying to build in northern Galkayo’s Garsoor village that divides the two states.

said Muslims should treat the followers of other religions as well as all Muslims with respect.

One religious scholar Faziulghani Kakar said: "The lives and properties of those who are not Muslim and are living in a Muslim country should be safe. These are human rights introduced to Muslims by the Prophet 14 centuries ago. This was the message of the Prophet for real Muslims who want to live in harmony with all people."

Meanwhile the Indonesian Ambassador to Kabul Anshory Tadjudin said that Islam and modernization go hand-in-hand in Indonesia and that is why his country is improving.

He said: "Our people live together alongside followers of other religions and as I said during my speech Muslims, Christians, Buddhists and Hindus all live in an accepted environment in our country."

"This is the way we obey the issue of human rights in Indonesia. We respect each other," he said.

Minister of Hajj and Religious Affairs Faiz Mohammad Osmani said it is important for religious scholars to take a stance against insurgent activities in the country.

He said: "We need to be more active than we were in the past. We should not stay calm. In such sensitive situations where innocent children are being killed under the flag with the Tawhid, and our religious scholars are being beheaded, we should stand up against this."

Gunmen kill a Sharia judge in Manbij
What? No Tea Party protests? No petitioning the government, hat in hand? Is that how we want to fight Sharia Law?
[ARA News] ERBIL – A prominent Sharia judge of the extremist group of Islamic State (ISIS) was shot dead in the ISIS-held city of Manbij in Aleppo province, northern Syria, local sources reported on Tuesday.

Speaking to ARA News in Manbij, civil rights activist Adnan al-Halabi said that a group of gunmen on Monday midnight raided the house of the judge Abu Farouq in the city of Manbij and shot him in the head.

Farouq used to administer daily activities in the ISIS-linked Sharia Court in Manbij.

“He was found dead at his home on Tuesday,” the source said.

“In the wake of the accident, the ISIS-led Islamic Police arrested more than 30 people for interrogation,” al-Halabi quoted eyewitnesses as saying.

In mid-November, a Syrian young man killed another judge from the radical group along with two of his escorts in the city of Manbij, according to local sources. After killing the ISIS judgej, the man has reportedly committed suicide by shooting himself.

“The young man has shot dead a Tunisian national, who served as a judge at the ISIS-linked Sharia Court in Manbij,” an eyewitness told ARA News on the condition of anonymity.

In the meantime, dozens of people took to the street in Manbij to protest against ISIS atrocities, but the group opened fire on the protesters, killing at least two and wounding several others. The rest of the protesters were arrested, activists told ARA News in Manbij.

Subsequent to fierce battles with the Syrian opposition forces, the hardline group has captured the city of Manbij more than a year and a half ago.

[ARABNEWS] Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdul Aziz Al-Asheikh has called on preachers in the Kingdom to fight deviant thoughts and values that are not Islamic.

"This is in keeping with the significant role you play in contemporary Saudi society in view of various attempts to destabilize security and Islamic teachings and values," Al-Asheikh said. He made the call during a meeting with preachers and workers in Badiah district.

Al-Asheikh said that guiding Muslims along the right path in accordance with correct teachings and values is part and parcel of their Islamic duties and responsibilities.

However,
there's more than one way to skin a cat...
he said: "While you go about your task in disseminating Islamic thoughts, you're at the same time expected to exercise tolerance to achieve the desired goals." He urged preachers to be focused and exercise patience in the pursuit of what is right and proper, and to keep their links and associations with scholars.

Afghanistan
Taliban, Daesh Fighters Still Being Trained In Pakistan: Olomi
[Tolo News] The Ministry of Interior on Tuesday said Taliban and Daesh [Islamic State] fighters are being trained in Pakistain and then sent to Afghanistan to fight security forces.

Interior Minister Noorulhaq Olomi said holy warriors are recruiting the youth and are continuing their attacks on Afghanistan while giving orders from Pakistain.

Speaking at an event on Tuesday which saw security forces destroy 19,000 kgs of drugs along with a large amount of alcohol, Olomi said drugs are one of the main revenue sources for holy warriors.

Olomi said: "Taliban and Daesh [Islamic State] fighters as always are being trained in Pakistain. They are equipped and financed there and are then sent to Afghanistan. They [insurgents] are being given hope while in Pakistain of achieving their goals in Afghanistan."

He went on to say: "Drugs are one of the main sources of income for holy warriors in the region. They continue their attacks and are recruiting our youth through drugs."

Meanwhile the Counter-Narcotics Minister Salamat Azimi said the problem of drugs is a major challenge for Afghanistan.

He said: "The drug problem is a serious challenge for Afghanistan and the international community."

"In order to overcome the problem, we need the joint cooperation of the international community."

The counter-narcotics department under MoI recently announced its achievements in fighting the scourge. Since January they have seized over 100 tons of drugs in 1,135 operations.

They also said the department had seized over 400 vehicles, 240 weapons and 244 mobile phones from drug pushers and smugglers.

The seizure of drugs increased by 16 percent this year and alcohol by 36 percent.

Security force members from the unit meanwhile tossed in the slammer

a total of 1,876 people -- including 20 coppers, 29 soldiers, 26 women and two foreigners - a Kazakhstani and an Iranian -- for dealing and smuggling drugs.

Of the total, 227 were king-pin drug smugglers, 49 were middlemen and 1,600 were dealers.

80 books promoting Brotherhood banned
[ARABNEWS] The Ministry of Education has banned all schools, libraries and resource centers from using 80 books of writers linked to the outlawed Moslem Brüderbund organization.

The writers include Hassan Al-Banna, Sayyid Qutb and Yousuf Al-Qaradawi
...crackpot Egyptian Islamist theologian. He is best known for his program Shariah and Life on Al Jazeera, with an estimated audience of 60 million kindred souls worldwide. He is also well-known for IslamOnline, which occasionally advocates things like slavery and thumping the old lady with a rod no thicker than an inch, and has published more than 120 books, including Islam: The Future Civilization. Joe has long had a prominent role within the intellectual leadership of the Moslem Brüderbund. Some of his views have been controversial in the West, though less so among the rubes of the Mysterious East, and he was refused entry to the United Kingdom in 2008. In 2004, 2,500 Muslim academics from Saudi Arabia, Iraq and from the Palestinian territories condemned Qaradawi, and accused him of giving Islam a bad name....
, reported an online publication on Tuesday, quoting a circular issued by the ministry.

The circular stated that these books should be handed to the ministry within two weeks. The ministry has also warned education departments and schools not to accept any gifts other than those given by the ministry.

The banned books include "Allah and the Islamic Faith," and "The Ten Principles" by Hassan Al-Banna, "The Lawful and Prohibited in Islam" by Yousuf Al-Qaradawi and "Shubhaat Hawl Al-Islam" by Sayyid Qutb.

End of Yemen war up to Houthis
Arab coalition forces and their Yemeni allies will pursue a military campaign to end an Iranian-backed coup until the rebels agree to join UN-sponsored peace negotiations; the coalition spokesman was reported on Tuesday as saying.

“Halting the military operations is up to the Houthis and their allies…if they want to end this war and go to the negotiating table, then it will end…otherwise the operations will continue until security and stability in Yemen and its neighbors is achieved,” Brigadier Ahmed Assiri said, quoted by Rotana Gulf satellite TV channel.

He said the war, which has entered its ninth month, has dragged on because the insurgents have strong military capabilities.

But he stressed that the Saudi-dominated coalition as well as the national Yemeni army and the resistance would not stop the war before the rebels agree to peace terms.

“We are in a war against a large force which has a large number of men and large military capabilities…we are fighting the Houthis and their allies, including part of the Yemeni regular army and the Republican Guards, and the Central Security Forces…they are trained forces and have capabilities that surpass those of some Arab countries,” the Saudi army general said.

“But the military operation we launched early this year will continue until the other party reaches a conclusion that they must abide by UN Security Council Resolution 2216.”

Top military officer contradicts Obama, says ISIS not 'contained'
[FOXNEWS] America's top-ranking military officer found himself at odds Tuesday with the nation's commander-in-chief over his claim that the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
was "contained" -- an assertion President B.O. had made before the Gay Paree terror attacks.

Gen. Joseph Dunford, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, gave a dim assessment when asked during a House Armed Services Committee hearing whether that's the case.

"We have not contained ISIL currently," Dunford told Rep. Randy Forbes, R-Va.

The answer runs counter to the claim made by Obama last month in an ABC News interview when asked about the status of the anti-ISIS campaign.

"I don't think they're gaining strength. What is true is that from the start our goal has been first to contain, and we have contained them. They have not gained ground in Iraq. And in Syria, they'll come in, they'll leave, but you don't see this systematic march by ISIL across the terrain," Obama said.

The remarks were made a day before the Nov. 13 Gay Paree terror attacks, which were carried out by ISIS holy warriors, and later had to be clarified by the White House as the administration faced bipartisan criticism. White House Deputy Press Secretary Ben Rhodes said Obama was referring specifically to the group's geographic expansion in Iraq and Syria.

#4  The man's got a problem. Congress is the authenticating authority to the appointment of the chairman. He can fire, he can't keep anyone in the chair unless the Senate OKs. At this point it would become interesting if the chiefs don't fall in line. If he sacks the lot it may well precipitate an issue his agents can't hide in an election year. Given the regard the public has in its uniform military vs the rest of the government and MSM, it's not a fight I'd take on. Even if he sacks them, they remain on the payroll. Only Courts Martial can 'fire' them, and then, by the law, that can only be done by other uniformed personnel. With an election just a year away, those who execute the dirty work will themselves face the same venue shortly thereafter. May we live in interesting times.

Explosion Near Istanbul Metro Stop Was a Bomb, Local Mayor Says
[BLOOMBERG] A pipe bomb that went off near an Istanbul metro stop injured five people on Tuesday, Atilla Aydiner, mayor of the Bayrampasa district where the blast occurred, said in an interview with AHaber television.

Bomb disposal units have been sent to the site of the kaboom, Yeni Safak newspaper reported on its website.

State-run Anadolu Agency cited Istanbul Governor Vasip Sahin as saying the cause of the blast was still unknown, and all possibilities were being investigated. One person was lightly injured, he said, contradicting reports from private news agencies including Haberturk that one person was killed.

The kaboom took place on a overpass near the Bayrampasa metro station, Yeni Safak reported, without saying how it got the information. The blast was heard as far as the central business district of Sisli and the entertainment district of Beyoglu, according to reports in local media.

Metro services throughout Istanbul were halted after the kaboom, according to the Istanbul Municipality, and roads around the area were blocked. Passengers were evacuated from a metro carriage in the area whose windows were broken by the blast, according to Yeni Safak.

The mission requires approval by Germany's lower house of parliament, which may hold a vote as early as this week. About 1,200 German troops will be deployed, General Volker Wieker, the head of the armed forces, was quoted as saying by Bild am Sonntag newspaper.

State Department 'troubled' by Moscow's move against Soros groups
[FOXNEWS] The U.S. State Department says it is "troubled" by Russia's decision to ban two of liberal billionaire George Soros' pro-democracy charities and label the organizations a threat to national security.

"Today's designation of the Open Society Foundations and the Open Society Institute Assistance Foundation as so-called 'undesirable' organizations will only further restrict the work of civil society in Russia for the benefit of the Russian people," State Department front man Mark Toner said Monday. "This action is yet another example of the Russian Government's growing crackdown on independent voices and a deliberate step to further isolate the Russian people from the world."

A spokesperson from Russia's Prosecutor General's Office said the activities of the fund are threats to state security and the Russian constitution, Radio Free Europe reports.

The Open Society Foundations said in a statement on its website that it was "dismayed" by the decision.

"Contrary to the Russian prosecutor's allegations, the Open Society Foundations have, for more than a quarter-century, helped to strengthen the rule of law in Russia and protect the rights of all," the statement read.

Prosecutors started investigating the charity fund in July after Russian senators flagged a list of 12 groups that required a closer look over their supposed anti-Russian activities, RT reports.

Other groups on the list include the National Endowment for Democracy, the International Republican Institute, the MacArthur Foundation and Freedom House.

Argentina's Fernandez Ramps Up Spending Before Power Handover
[BLOOMBERG] Argentine President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner has ramped up government spending even as she prepares to hand over power in 10 days, helping to widen a budget deficit for 2015 already expected to reach the highest in 33 years.

At the start of the week, the government said it would spend an extra 133 billion pesos this year on salaries and energy subsidies. A day later, and Fernandez's administration ordered the Treasury to make up a shortfall of 98 billion pesos ($10.1 billion) with the state-run pension system following a ruling by the supreme court. The government must also find 27 billion pesos to cover costs at the tax agency.

The extra spending makes it all the more urgent for incoming President Mauricio Macri to tackle the fiscal gap that is forecast to reach 7.2 percent of gross domestic product. Macri now faces the shortest of honeymoons after defeating Fernandez's candidate in a runoff vote last month, having pledged to cut subsidies, remove currency controls and slow inflation.

"Clearly the fiscal scenario for next year is going to be very challenging," said Maximiliano Castillo, director of Buenos Aires-based consultancy ACM. "The roots of rising inflation, currency controls, import and export restrictions come from a completely unsustainable fiscal policy."

To begin closing the fiscal gap, Macri's designated Energy Minister Juan Jose Aranguren said the new government will reduce subsidies on electricity bills in the metropolitan area of Buenos Aires, where the government spends about $800 million a month footing the bill for clients of electricity suppliers Edenor and Edesur.

They told NDS during initial investigation about the murder and exposed the location where they had buried the dead body.

Dawoud's dead body was then recovered from Qutan Shah Mahmood village.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
Dicaprio Raped By Bear In Fox Movie
[DRUDGEREPORT] Guy goes hunting for bear in Alaska. He's tip-toeing through the woods when he sees the biggest bear he's ever seen in his life. He draws a bead, lets out his breath, squeezes the trigger.

And misses.

Suddenly the bear's standing right in front of him, its claws raised! "You tried to shoot me!" sez the bear.

"Ummm... You're a talking bear?"

"And you're a dead guy... unless you drop trou and let me have my way with your tiny butt!"

The guy's got a choice: Death, or the proverbial fate worse than death. He decides to go with "worse than," and the bear leaves him limping and dripping and sore twenty minutes later.

The guy drags it back to his tent, where he applies soothing balm and liberal quantities of Preparation H. "Rat bastard bear!" he snarls. "No bear does that to me and gets away with it!"

Next morning he's lying in wait when the bear comes down to the water hole. He draws his bead, lets out his breath, squeezes the trigger... And misses.

"Hrarrr!" the bear snarls, brandishing nine inch claws. "You tried to kill me! I'm gonna disembowel youse with a single slash! Unless..."

The guy drops his drawers, turns around, and endures another even more painful, even more humiliating session.

The guy crawls back to his tent, whimpering, and sits in a tub of snow, which sizzles as his butt hits it.

"Dirty rotten sonofabitchin' bear!" he snarls. "I'll kill him! I'll kill him!"

Next morning he's lying in wait, not twenty yards from the water hole. He can't miss! The bear shows up, sniffs the air, and leans over to drink. The guy draws his bead, lets out his breath, squeezes the trigger...

Ghostly ships filled with bodies arrive on Japan's shores
[CNN] An unsettling mystery has washed up on Japan's shores.

Over the past two months, at least 12 wooden boats have been found in the Sea of Japan on or near the coast, carrying a chilling cargo -- the decaying bodies of 22 people, police and Japan's coasties said.

All the bodies were "partially skeletonized" -- two were found without heads -- and one boat contained six skulls, the coasties said. The first boat was found in October, then a series of boats were found in November.

Russia adding 2nd airbase in Syria, pursuing 'expansion' in military campaign
[FOXNEWS] Russia has expanded its military operations in Syria to include a second airbase as well as other posts, according to a U.S. official briefed on the latest intelligence from the region -- even as President B.O. expresses muted optimism that Russian President Vladimir Putin
...Second and fourth President and sixth of the Russian Federation and the first to remain sober. Putin is credited with bringing political stability and re-establishing something like the rule of law, which occasionally results in somebody dropping dead from polonium poisoning. The old bunch, without close personal ties to Putin, are in jail or in exile or dead...
eventually will "shift" his strategy and work with the West.

Moscow's presence has grown to a total of four forward operating bases, including recently added bases in Hama and Tiyas. But the most concerning to the Pentagon is the second airbase in Shayrat which can support fixed-wing aircraft, greatly expanding Russia's capability for Arclight airstrikes, which began on Sept. 30.

"The Russians are operating helicopters out of Shayrat airport, but they are making [preparations] to land fixed-wing aircraft," another U.S. official confirmed to Fox News.

Shayrat is located 25 miles outside of the Syrian city of Homs, an hour drive from neighboring Leb.

Afghanistan
Mass Grave Found in Balkh's Shortepa District
Deminers on Sunday found human remains buried in a mass grave in Taza Umid village of Shortepa district in northern Balkh province, officials confirmed.

According to them, the remains of about 13 people were found – ten of whom had turbans on when buried.

"This is the area where we work. We were on our way to Mazar-e-Sharif when a resident informed us about the existence of a mass grave," Abdul Hadi, a deminer said on Sunday.

However, it is unclear how the deceased died or what the circumstances were. But officials said early indications point towards them having been killed by the Taliban.

Meanwhile, the Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC) has expressed deep concerns over the discovery of the mass grave and called on government to ensure an investigation into the matter is carried out and those responsible are brought to justice.

"Elements who are involved in such crimes must be removed from the government structure. A documentary needs to be prepared about the events. We have general information about such things, but we face a lack of information which is authentic," head of AIHRC site office in Balkh, Taqi Wahidi said.

Meanwhile, the deputy head of Balkh provincial council has said that the discovery of the mass grave shows the level of violence the country has been subjected to over the past thirty years. He called on government to ensure those responsible pay for their crimes.

"Unforgivable crimes have been committed over the past three decades and the mass grave proves this fact. These crimes are unpardonable," Shujauddin Shuja, deputy head of Balkh provincial council said.

"We expect government to take effective steps in this respect to detect the perpetrators involved in such crimes," he said.

Three decades of violence and war has dominated the country and devastated Afghanistan's economy. It has also taken its toll on the infrastructure and claimed the lives of thousands of people.

NATO Will Not Allow Afghanistan To Be A Safe Haven For Terrorists: Stoltenberg
[Tolo News] NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. It's headquartered in Belgium. That sez it all....
Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said at a presser on Tuesday that after 2016 the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) mission will focus only on training and mentoring in Afghanistan and that bases will be located in only four provinces in the country.

The two-day meeting of NATO foreign ministers began on Tuesday in Brussels at the organization's headquarters.

NATO Secretary-General said on the sidelines of the meeting that Afghanistan is an important country for NATO, which will not allow the country to become a safe haven for Death Eaters as Afghanistan's insecurity was in turn a big threat to the security of NATO countries.

"We are in Afghanistan to prevent that Afghanistan again becomes a safe haven for international terrorists. It is also in our security interests to make sure that doesn't happen. So we are in Afghanistan of course to support Afghans but we are in Afghanistan also to support ourselves because if Afghanistan becomes a safe haven for international Death Eaters that will also be a threat to us," he said.

Stoltenberg said he supported the grinding of the peace processor by the Afghan government and asked the neighboring countries to help with the process.

"We welcome efforts by all parties to further an Afghan-owned and an Afghan-led inclusive grinding of the peace processor. Good noble relations and regional support and cooperation remain essential for a stable Afghanistan that we all want to see," he added.

These comments come on the heels of earlier statements that NATO will keep 12,000 troops in Afghanistan until the end of 2016.

Three Children Killed in Baghlan Blast
[Tolo News] Early reports indicate that at least three children were killed and 15 others injured in a mortar kaboom in northern Baghlan province, local officials said on Tuesday.

The incident happened early Tuesday in Pul-e-Khumri, the capital of the province, after a group of boys found the mortar and started playing with it, officials at Baghlan hospital said.

Officials did say however, that the corpse count could increase.

This comes less than a week after eight children died in a mortar kaboom in Kabul
...the capital of Afghanistan. Home to continuous fighting from 1992 to 1996 between the forces of would-be strongman and Pak ISI/Jamaat-e-Islami sock puppet Gulbuddin Hekmayar and the Northern Alliance, a period which won Hek the title Most Evil Man in the World and didn't do much for the reputations of the Northern Alliance guys either....
This incident happened when the children apparently found the unwent kaboom! device, believed to have been left over from the civil war, while playing at a construction site.

HRW: George Bush should be investigated for torture conspiracy
[ARABNEWS] Former President George W. Bush and a raft of senior US officials from his administration should be investigated for conspiracy to torture and for other crimes, Human Rights Watch
... During the fiscal year ended June 30, 2011, HRW received a pledge from the Foundation to Promote Open Society, of which George Soros is Chairman, for general support totaling $100,000,000. The grant is being paid in installments of $10,000,000 over ten years.Through June 30, 2013, HRW had received $30,000,000 towards the fulfillment of the pledge....
said Tuesday.

In a scathing report,
...they do enjoy scathing, especially if a substantial tea is laid on for restoring strength afterward...
...only when it's safe to scathe. They don't want to lose their heads over the scathing...
the international rights group decries the lack of prosecutions of those involved in the Central Intelligence Agency's secret program to torture detainees in the wake of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks.

It said there is enough evidence for the attorney general to order criminal probes.

The 153-page report outlines evidence to support the main criminal charges that could be brought against those behind what is referred to so-called "enhanced interrogation" techniques, and challenges claims that prosecutions are impossible.

"US officials who created, authorized and implemented the CIA program should be among those investigated for conspiracy to torture as well as other crimes," the report summary states

Afghanistan
Concerns Raised Over Women's 'Death By Stoning' Sentence
[Tolo News] The Ghor parents of a 25-year-old woman voiced their distress on Tuesday over the recent conviction of their daughter by a Taliban court which has allegedly sentenced her to death by stoning.

The woman was accused of having run away with a security force member, before being captured by Taliban murderous Moslems.

Their kangaroo court hearing was reportedly held in Ghalmin area in Ghor province four days ago.

The woman was found guilty and allegedly sentenced to be buried alive under a pile of rocks.

The woman's mother said: "They have taken my daughter four days ago and they want to sentence her to death."

While her father said: "He [security force members] kidnapped my daughter and gave her to the Taliban. She has been sentenced to death."

The woman sentenced to death has four children. One of them was with her at the time of her capture. This child is allegedly being held by the murderous Moslems, said her parents.

Two of her other children have meanwhile appealed to government to step in and prevent their mother from being killed.

One of them said: "The Taliban want to stone my mother and I urge government to stop them."

Meanwhile Ghor police chief Ghulam Mustafa Mohseni said the allegations are baseless and that the woman was taken by a security force member and police are still trying to find her.

He said: "We are trying to find the woman. We will return her to her family where ever she is."

However a number of tribal elders said the Taliban's decision to stone her to death is confirmed and if government does not step in and stop this from happening she will be stoned in the same area where 19-year-old Rokhshana suffered the same fate.

Rokhshana was stoned to death last month after having been found guilty by the Taliban of eloping with a man.

One tribal elder Haji Nek Mohammad said: "They say they are going to stone the woman to death. Her uncles went to get her but they were not successful."

India-Pakistan
Taj Mahal 'not a Hindu temple'
[ARABNEWS] India's government has rejected claims by a group of lawyers that the Taj Mahal monument was a Hindu temple.

While replying to a query about the evidence claiming that the Taj Mahal built in Agra by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan was originally a temple, Union Culture Minister Mahesh Sharma told the Parliament that the government has not found any evidence in this regard.

Sharma's reply came few days after a lawsuit, claiming the Taj Mahal was originally a Shiva temple, was filed by a group of lawyers from Agra.

They also demanded that its ownership be transferred to Hindus and Muslims be restricted from offering prayers at the location.

The Archaeological Survey of India had earlier dismissed the claims that the 17th century Mughal monument is a Shiva temple.

#5  Something odd in this story. Says it is not a Hindu temple but then says built by Mughal Emporer Shah Jahan. I thought the Mughals were Muslims? It also says Muslims be restricted from offering prayers at the location.

Sounds like they are saying it was determined to not be a Muslim temple.

Anyway, saying it is not a temple won't get the Muslims to spare it if they get the chance.
Posted by: rjschwarz || 12/02/2015 16:25 Comments || Top||

#6  rjschwarz, the Wikipedia article on the Taj Mahal addresses all those questions. Key to the Hindu temple claim, Wikipedia reports:

In 2000, India's Supreme Court dismissed P. N. Oak's petition[64] to declare that a Hindu king built the Taj Mahal.[61][65] In 2005 a similar petition was dismissed by the Allahabad High Court. This case was brought by Amar Nath Mishra, a social worker and preacher who says that the Taj Mahal was built by the Hindu King Parmar Dev in 1196.[66]

The Moghuls are what the Mongols became after they converted to Islam and began conquering northern India. Muslims are currently allowed to pray at the on-site mosque between twelve and two p.m. on Fridays. If the site was originally a temple to Shiva, that ended when the local maharajah accepted a city palace in exchange for the land almost four centuries ago.

Arabia
Al-Qaeda warns Saudi Arabia ahead of mass execution
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The global holy warrior network of al-Qaeda has warned the government of Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
of consequences in case the planned mass execution is carried out.

Rooters news agency reports that the group's affiliate in Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic...
known as Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula
...the latest incarnation of various Qaeda and Qaeda-allied groups, including the now-defunct Aden-Abyan Islamic Army that boomed the USS Cole in 2000...
(AQAP) said it was aware of Saudi intentions to execute its members in Saudi prisons and pledged to carry out attacks in response.

"We swear to God, our blood will be shed before the blood of our captives, and their pure blood will not dry before we shed the blood of the soldiers of Al Saud," according to Rooters, the group said in a statement which was posted on Twitter and dated Tuesday. "We will not enjoy life unless we get the necks of the Al Saud rulers."

Okaz newspapaer which has close links with the Saudi Interior Ministry recently reported that Saudi government is going to execute 55 men convicted of terrorism offences, among those, reportedly some members of al-Qaeda.

The mass beheadings are believed to take place in a single day in several cities across the kingdom, most likely after Friday prayers.

Amnesia Amnesty International, an organization which focuses on human rights
...which are usually open to widely divergent definitions...
has expressed alarm over the report saying that given the spike in executions this year, it has no option but to take the reports very seriously.

According to Amnesia Amnesty International, Saudi Arabia has executed at least 151 people this year while last year a total of 90 people were executed.

HOR member grabbed in Tripoli
Tripoli, 1 December 2015:

Unidentified gunmen have seized Nabil Aoun, a member of the House of Representatives from his Tripoli home .

Fellow Representative Ayman Saif Al-Nasr said on social media this morning that Aoun, who was elected for Azziziya, was grabbed early this morning by armed men who broke into his house and bundled him off to an unknown destination.

However, it is reported that members of his family are claiming he has been taken to Mitiga.

Mitiga is the base for the Rada “Deterrence” force commanded by Abdul Raul Kara, which runs a prison there.

Like Nasr, who was elected by Janzour, Aoun has been one of the standout HoR members who have refused to take their seats in the parliament in Tobruk

Boko Haram Jihadists Torch 50 Homes, Kill Four People in Niger
[AnNahar] Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
activists raided a border village in Niger, killing four people and torching some 50 homes, a local official said on Monday.

Two other people were maimed in the assault on Saturday evening, said Fougou Boukar, an official from the restive Diffa region, adding that the attackers then fled to Nigeria.

"There has been enormous damage with about 50 houses burnt," he told state television
... and if you can't believe state television who can you believe?
, putting the number of assailants at about 10.

"The Boko Haram members were armed with Kalashnikovs and came across the Komadougou Yobe" river that divides Niger and Nigeria, Boukar said.

State television showed hundreds of distressed villagers, praying in memory of the victims. Some of them showed scores of empty cartridges they had gathered after the attack.

Boko Haram, the radical Sunni jihadists who want to create a hardline Islamic state in northeast Nigeria

, have spread their attacks to neighboring Niger, Chad and Cameroon
...a long, narrow country that fills the space between Nigeria and Chad on the northeast, CAR to the southeast. Prior to incursions by Boko Haram nothing ever happened there...
Their six-year insurgency has left at least 17,000 people dead and made more than 2.6 million homeless.

In Niger's Diffa region alone, hundreds of people have died in Boko Haram raids and suicide kabooms since February.

Last week, Boko Haram killed 18 people and injured 11 others during a raid in the village of Wogom located near the southeastern town of Bosso. Three of the victims, including the local imam, had their throats slit.

France's 'chief Islamic State group recruiter' goes on trial
[FRANCE24] The trial for La Belle France's alleged top recruiter for the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. (IS) group started Tuesday in Gay Paree. Salim Benghalem's trial will be conducted in absentia, as the suspect is believed to be in Syria.

Six other alleged gunnies accused of being part of Benghalem's terror network will also stand trial in Gay Paree. The trial will last until December 7, 2015.

French authorities said Benghalem, 35, was the leader of the so-called Buttes-Chaumont terrorist network that included Said and Cherif Kouachi, the brothers responsible for the deadly Charlie Hebdo

terrorist attack in January. He has also been linked to Mehdi Nemmouche, the gunman suspected of opening fire at the Jewish Museum of Belgium in Brussels, killing four people in May 2014.

His wife, who left Syria with their children, has told Sherlocks that he would return to La Belle France only to carry out an attack. She has said he believed bombs were not enough, that "a series of killings is recommended."

The US State Department said in 2014 that he was an executioner for the IS group and listed him as a 'foreign terrorist fighter'.

Cannabis smoker
Benghalem's descent into extremism has shocked his friends and family.

As a young man, Benghalem reportedly went out most nights with friends to meet girls, drink alcohol and smoke cannabis.

One of his childhood friends said: "He liked to crack jokes and was fun-loving."

Benghalem spent his formative years drifting from one job to another: supermarket cashier, electrician, and supervisor in a dining hall.

His family acknowledged back in 2014 that he had travelled to Syria to pursue "an ideal of justice", but was "definitely not an executioner".

Jailed after gang killing
Benghalem life seems to have taken a turn for the worse back in 2001, when he fled La Belle France for Algeria, from where his family originates, after being accused of murder and attempted murder for a gangland fight.

He remained in contact with his family before finally returning to La Belle France in 2002, when he was tossed in the clink

Displaced Yezidi families afraid of returning home
[ARA News] DUHOK – Although the Peshmerga forces and allied local fighters, backed by the U.S.-led coalition, have recaptured the Yezidi district of Sinjar (Shingal) and the surrounding villages in northern Iraq from the radical group of Islamic State (ISIS), the displaced Yezidi civilians are still reluctant to return home.

Some displaced Yezidis complained about the ISIS-led mass destruction of the towns and villages in Shingal, while others expressed their concerns about explosives and land-mines left behind by the terror group.

Speaking to ARA News in Shingal, Arif Khalil, one of the few Yezidis who revisited the region after its liberation, said: “On my way back to my house, I was struck by the scale of devastation that hit the villages and towns of the area. In Shingal, some houses were destroyed completely, while others half destroyed.”

“Many houses in the region have been looted and robbed,” he added.

Khalil pointed out that Shingal needs an intensive reconstruction campaign “after this devastating war”.

Salim Akhdar, a displaced Yezidi man, spoke to ARA News in the Duhok camp for Yezidi refugees in Iraqi Kurdistan, saying the land-mines planted by the terror group in Shingal region hinder his return with his family to to their hometown.

“Shingal had been under ISIS’s control for more than 15 months, and we are quite aware of the brutality of this group. The displaced civilians are reluctant to return home for fear of deadly accidental explosions,” he said.

Akhdar pointed out that life in “impossible” in the Shingal (Sinjar) region at the moment; “people’s return may take a long time due to the risky obstacles”.

“Shingal’s infrastructure has been destroyed due to the heavy shelling and bombings. Without rebuilding the basic infrastructure people would not be able to live in the region at all,” Hakim Kalash, another Yezidi refugee, told ARA News.

“Life will return to the Yezidi region but very slowly because the military operations are still ongoing, and many families have lost confidence in the return of stability and safety to Shingal following ISIS’s atrocities against innocent civilians.”

“ISIS still poses a threat to Shingal,” Kalash concluded.

The Shingal region had been under ISIS control for more than a year, where thousands of Yezidi civilians suffered from the atrocities of the extremist group.

The anti-ISIS operations started when the Peshmerga forces blocked most of the group’s supply lines in the area, breaking into the western neighborhoods of Shingal.

Shingal town and its environs enjoy a strategic location, and it connects the cities of Raqqa in eastern Syria with Mosul in northern Iraq –both held by ISIS.

In August last year, ISIS extremists had taken control of Shingal, causing a mass displacement of nearly 400,000 people to Duhok and Erbil in Iraqi Kurdistan. Tens of thousands of Yezidis remained trapped in Mount Sinjar, suffering mass killings, kidnappings and rape cases.

On November 13, The Kurdish Peshmerga forces in Iraqi Kurdistan announced the liberation of the entire Yezidi district of Shingal (Sinjar) in the northern Iraqi province of Nineveh after fierce battles with ISIS extremists.

Prisoner swap deal frees Lebanese soldiers and Daesh leader's ex-wife
The ex-wife? Now that's a level of depravity I have not seen for some time
Al Qaeda's Syrian wing, the Nusra Front, released 16 Lebanese soldiers and policemen held captive since August, 2014 on Tuesday in a Qatari-mediated deal that also secured freedom for a jailed ex-wife of Islamic State leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.
Hmmm, I think I'm beginning to see a way to stop the ISIS hard boyz from kidnapping and beheading. Of course Human Rights Watch won't agree with me...
The Nusra Front seized the Lebanese during an attack on the border town of Arsal mounted together with the Daesh group which is still believed to be holding nine soldiers captured in the incursion.

Live TV footage from the border area between Lebanon and Syria showed the Lebanese captives in vehicles accompanied by masked men armed with assault rifles and waving the Nusra Front flag before they were released to the Red Thingy Cross.

Thirteen militants in Lebanese jails, including Saja Al Dulaimi, the ex-wife of Baghdadi, were also released. Dulaimi, fully veiled, was shown in live TV footage from the area with her three children who were with her in prison. Nusra Front fighters were shown kissing and hugging the sons of Dulaimi, who was arrested by the Lebanese authorities a year ago. Speaking to Al Jazeera, she said her wish was to return to Beirut and then to leave to Turkey.

"We accomplished the entire agreement with Nusra. We received our heroic soldiers and we are on our way back to Beirut," top Lebanese security official Abbas Ibrahim, who oversaw the swap, said by telephone.

"This joy not complete until the return of those kidnapped by Daesh. We are ready to negotiate with Daesh if we find someone to negotiate with," he said.

The Nusra Front fighters chanted "God is great" as they arrived with the captives in preparation for the swap. One of the captives, interviewed by Al Jazeera, said the group had treated them well. Nusra has killed four of the captives.

"Praise be to God. The joy cannot be described," another of the captives told Al Jazeera.

The exchange began with the Nusra Front releasing the body of one of the Lebanese soldiers it had killed in captivity, Mohamed Hamieh.
I would have released the body of a Daesh deader in reply. If I didn't have one handy I'd make one...
Qatar has been involved in efforts to mediate the release of the captives for a year or more. A previous effort to secure their release broke down a year ago after one of the captives was killed.

Arabia
Dozens of Houthis killed in major offensive across border from Yemen
Dozens of Houthi fighters were killed during an assault on the border with Saudi Arabia, residents and Saudi state television said on Tuesday, in what they described as a major push to try to capture territory inside the kingdom.
Yemen wasn't big enough for them?
The Houthis have been trying to push into Saudi territory since an alliance led by Saudi Arabia intervened in Yemen's civil war in March, trying to drive back the Iran-allied group and restore exiled Yemeni President Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi.
Houthi Lebensraum?
"There was an attempt, as usual, to breach the border and sneak into Saudi territory but the ... armed forces as a whole, were watching them and this attempt was thwarted," Brigadier General Ahmed Al Assiri, spokesman of the Saudi-led coalition, said in comments broadcast by Saudi state television on Tuesday.

"Those who tried to infiltrate were killed and the situation is stable, thanks be to God," he added.
Not sure I'd give thanks to Allan but I'm pleased to see it happen...
The channel said Assiri put the number of those killed at 180 Houthis and allied fighters loyal to former President Ali Abdullah Saleh.

That number could not be independently verified, but local residents said dozens of Houthi fighters had been killed in what they said was a major assault by hundreds of Houthi fighters on the border. Saudi forces used helicopters as well as rockets to repel the Houthis, they said.

The Houthi-run Saba news agency said that fighters had seized three Saudi military outposts near the city of Najran, destroying several armoured vehicles, including two US-made Abrams tanks and three Bradley vehicles.
They were able to do what Saddam could never do...

Apari and Berenson met in prison in 1997. He was also an inmate at the time.

Tunisian security minister fired after ISIS-claimed attacks
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Tunisian Prime Minister Habib Essid has dismissed the country's security minister after an ISIS-claimed suicide kaboom killed 12 members of the presidential guard last week.

Secretary of State for Security Affairs Rafik Chelly lost his job Tuesday after the third bombing claimed by ISIS this year, following deadly attacks at the Bardo Museum in Tunis and in the resort of Sousse.

A government statement didn't specify a reason for Chelly's dismissal, merely noting that he is being "called to other duties."

In recent weeks, Tunisia's government has said that security forces dismantled several radical jihadi cells planning attacks against tourist sites and public figures.

It says that dozens of suspected bully boyz have been placed in durance vile

Afghanistan
NATO agrees to keep troops in Afghanistan, seeks army funding
[REUTERS] The NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. A cautionary tale of cost-benefit analysis....
allies decided on Tuesday to hold alliance troop levels in Afghanistan steady at about 12,000 next year and launched a campaign to fund the 350,000 Afghan forces it hopes can some day secure the country against Talibs.

Fourteen years after the United States first sent troops to Afghanistan, NATO governments have doubts about the ability of its army and police to defend against Taliban fighters, who briefly took over the northern city of Kunduz in September.

As a result, the 28-member Western alliance is abandoning plans to slash its troop levels by the end of this year.

"We are in Afghanistan to prevent that Afghanistan again becomes a safe haven for international gunnies ... that is also in our security interest to make sure that that doesn't happen," NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said at a meeting of NATO foreign ministers.

Excluding U.S. counter-terrorism forces, NATO will have about 12,000 troops in Afghanistan for most of next year, made up of about 7,000 U.S. forces and 5,000 from the rest of NATO and its partners such as non-NATO member Georgia.

At Tuesday's meeting, allies also launched a campaign to raise about $3 billion euros to help pay for Afghanistan's state security forces from 2018.

Differences appear in ranks of JUI-F in Karak
[DAWN] KARAK: Serious differences have surfaced in the ranks of Jamaat Ulema-e-Islam
...a pak religious party. It is usually part of the govt, never part of the solution...
-F as the local chapter of its central executive committee has expressed no confidence in the person of district general secretary Maulana Zahoor Ahmad.

Addressing a presser here on Monday, the committee members, including Mufti Kifaytullah, Maulana Mohammad Khan Qasmi and Qari Mohammad Aslam, alleged that the district general secretary was undermining the party's cause in Karak.

They said that the elements violating the party discipline and damaging its cause would be removed from the party.

They accused Zahoor Ahmad of spoiling the party's reputation in the district, saying that they had already submitted their vote of no confidence against him with the district vice-president Qari Jehanzeb and provincial general secretary Maulana Shujaul Mulk.

The JUI-F leaders insisted that they had the support of 311 members of the executive council out of 496. They resolved to work according to the party's manifesto and take every step to strengthen it in the district.

Two SSP men get six years in prison for distributing hate material
[DAWN] FAISALABAD: An Anti-Terrorism Court in Faisalabad
...formerly known as Lyallpur, the third largest metropolis in Pakistain, the second largest in Punjab after Lahore. It is named after some Arab because the Paks didn't have anybody notable of their own to name it after...
sentenced two activists of banned Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistain
...a Sunni Deobandi organization, a formerly registered Pak political party, established in the early 1980s in Jhang by Maulana Haq Nawaz Jhangvi. Its stated goal is to oppose Shia influence in Pakistain. They're not too big on Brelvis, either. Or Christians. Or anybody else who's not them. The organization was banned in 2002 as a terrorist organization, but somehow it keeps ticking along, piling up the corpse counts...
(SSP) to six years imprisonment along with a Rs0.1 million fine each for possessing and distributing hate material.

The SSP men, namely Amir Sher Mohammad and Ramzan Abdul Salam, were booked in October after a citizen approached police with the complaint that he saw the two convicts distributing hate material while displaying banners, flags and badges of the banned sectarian organization.

In the First Information Report (FIR) registered against the duo, the complainant states that he himself saw both Amir and Ramzan displaying banners and flags of the banned SSP on their stall and distributing hate material against the Shia sect, during the International Khatm-e-Nabuwat Conference.

Both the SSP activists belong to Chiniot district while the Khatm-e-Nabuwat Conference was held in Chenab Nagar on October 31.

The case was registered under Anti-Terrorism Act.
