Extremely British Muslims Reveals Why Young Asian Men Want To Join Isis
[DailyMail] Scores of British Muslims are joining ISIS because they think they can 'get an AK and get forgiven by God at the same time.'

The startling revelation is made by two young Muslim men, best friends Waseem Iqbal and Naveed Ahmed, on tonight's episode of Channel 4's Extremely British Muslims.

Many recruits come from a life of crime and see Islamic extremism as a chance to regain status and feel a sense of belonging, claims Waseem.

He reveals: ''You’ve got people that are sort of like ex-bad boys that still have that gang mentality. And if you want to be in a gang, what’s the biggest gang in the world right now? It’s ISIS.'
Just a teaser. Way more at link.

Helicopter crashes on outskirts of Istanbul; Russian businessmen killed
[Winnipeg Free Press] ISTANBUL - A helicopter crashed on a highway on Istanbul's outskirts Friday after apparently hitting a television tower in dense fog, reports said. All seven people on board were killed, the city's mayor said.

The Sikorsky S-76 was carrying an executive of the Eczacibasi group of companies, four of his Russian guests and two pilots.Gov. Vasip Sahin said that the helicopter crashed in Istanbul's Buyukcekmece district after taking off from Ataturk Airport, adding that the cause of the crash was under investigation.

Authorities initially recovered five bodies from the crash site, but Mayor Kadir Topbas later said that all seven on board were killed.

Thick black smoke could be seen billowing from the crash site in video shown on Turkish network DHA. Burning debris was scattered across a large stretch of the highway.

Chaffetz subpoenas ATF agents who skipped hearing on death of ICE officer
[FOX] House Oversight Committee Chairman Jason Chaffetz issued subpoenas Thursday to two ATF agents after they failed to show at a hearing examining the 2011 murder of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent Jaime Zapata.

"I'm tired of hearing from just [Justice Department] management, I want to hear from the people that actually are on the front lines doing this," Chaffetz, R-Utah, said.

The committee will now seek to compel testimony from William Temple, special agent in charge of the Dallas Field Division, and Ronald Turk, associate deputy director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, later this month.

The hearing Thursday was meant to examine alleged lapses in the ATF's investigation into the trafficking of guns later used in the February attack that killed Zapata and wounded his ICE colleague, Special Agent Victor Avila.

An inspector general report was completed more than five years after the committee and Sen. Charles Grassley, chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, inquired into Zapata’s murder. Zapata was killed by members of the Los Zetas drug cartel while on official business in Santa Maria del Rio, Mexico.

ATF Acting Director Thomas Brandon said Thursday he did not order Temple and Turk to skip the hearing -- but agreed with their decision not to appear, which drew a bipartisan rebuke from Chaffetz and ranking Democrat Elijah Cummings.

"That puts us in a kind of awkward position. We got the boss, 'OK guys, you don't have to show up.' And that sends a hell of a message. That's a problem," the Maryland Democrat said.

Chaffetz complained ATF "continues to insist" the committee should not speak with Turk and Temple.

Another invited witness, John Craft, a prosecutor in the Office of the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Texas, did not appear. But the chairman said due to the lateness of their invitation, he would not receive a subpoena.

Questions about the firearms used to kill Zapata surfaced during the separate congressional probe of Operation Fast and Furious and the death of Border Patrol agent Brian Terry.

The IG issued its Operation Fast and Furious report in 2012, but did not issue its report on the Zapata case until March 1.

According to the report, two weapons used in Zapata's murder were traced back to Otilio Osorio, who bought his gun at a Dallas gun show, and Robert Riendfliesh, who purchased a gun at a pawn shop in Beaumont, Texas.

The IG said the ATF were aware in 2010 that Osorio and his brother might be trafficking firearms to Mexico, but they did not follow up or further investigate until after Zapata’s death.

Otilio Osorio and Riendfliesh were arrested in late February 2011 after the ATF confirmed weapons used in Zapata's murder had been purchased by them.

The report faulted ATF for its handling of the case, saying there was "probable cause" to arrest Osorio and his brother "after ATF witnessed the Osorios complete a transfer of 40 firearms on November 9, 2010."

The IG said: "Overall, we found numerous problems with ATF’s assimilation of information concerning [the suspects] ... and the timeliness of ATF’s response to mounting evidence that they were committing firearms offenses."

Last week, Chaffetz and Grassley sent a letter demanding Justice explain the reason the investigation has dragged on.

"It has been nearly five years since the probe was requested. Given the high level of congressional interest in this matter and the seriousness of the allegations, we are perplexed that your investigative work took so long," they wrote.

Judiciary Committee Press Secretary Taylor Foy told Fox News that the panel is interested in part in "whether government employees involved in the debacle were held accountable."

#1  1. probably will be revised up

2. definitely exceeds the 150k needed to prevent the jobless rate from increasing

3. BLS also does productivity estimates (once each quarter) and 2016 was, per their calculation, a bad year for this metric (granted real productivity is difficult to estimate). In the mid to long term, if you can't increase productivity, the consequences are pretty bad.

#2  There's this:

The U-3 unemployment rate of 4.7% has been lower, but U-3 is not the best measure for unemployment. The U-6 rate calculates marginalized workers and offers a better overall picture, and that dropped two-tenths of a point to 9.2%. That’s the best level since April 2007.

Then there's the historical dodgy-ness of the BLS report.

At best, the patient has stabilized. At worst...

German Prosecutors Examining WikiLeaks Report on Klingon Base
BERLIN (AP) -- Germany's federal prosecutors say they are examining a WikiLeaks report suggesting that the Central Intelligence Agency used the U.S. consulate in Frankfurt as a base for covert hackers.

The federal prosecutors' office says the reports published Tuesday are being reviewed, but that this is a standard procedure.

Prosecutors said Wednesday that "if it turns out there is an initial suspicion of a concrete crime committed by a specific person then a preliminary investigation may be opened."

German foreign ministry spokesman Sebastian Fischer said authorities were trying to verify the authenticity of the alleged CIA documents published WikiLeaks.

"The rest remains to be seen," he said.

Relations between Berlin and Washington took a hit after Edward Snowden's revelations about NSA eavesdropping. It later transpired Germany had partly cooperated with the NSA.

The former CIA director is blaming millennials for the existence of leaks
[Independent] Millennials have had to get used to being characterised as lazy, selfish and narcissistic. Now this much maligned generation face the more serious accusation of being traitors to their country.
The right front tire of my garden tractor has a slow leak. I blame bros. Charles and John Deere.
In the wake of this week's Wikileaks dump of top secret files, a former CIA director has broken cover to point the finger at the millennial generation for the growing trend in damaging security blunders.

"I don’t mean to judge them all," Michael Hayden told BBC2's Newsnight on Thursday, "But this group of millennials...simply have different understandings of the words loyalty, secrecy and transparency than my generation did."

Just so everyone is in no doubt who he is talking about, Hayden named Edward Snowden and Chelsea Manning as the worst cases of millennial treachery.

South Korea president Park Geun-hye ousted by court
[BBC] South Korea's President Park Geun-hye has become the country's first democratically elected leader to be forced from office.

Judges unanimously upheld parliament's decision to impeach Ms Park over her role in a corruption scandal involving her close friend, Choi Soon-sil. She now loses her presidential immunity and could face criminal charges.

There have been angry scenes outside the court. Police said two protesters had died. The court ruling is the culmination of months of political turmoil and public protest. An election must now be held within 60 days.

Ms Park's office said she would not be leaving the Blue House, South Korea's presidential palace, on Friday nor making any statement. Acting President Hwang Kyo-ahn has called for calm, saying the government should remain stable to prevent internal conflict from spreading.

Dem Rep Introduces Bill to Block DJT from Using Fed Funds to Pay for Border Wall
[Breitbart] Rep. Gwen Moore (D-WI) is slated to introduce legislation Thursday that would block President Trump from using federal funding to pay for a wall along the Mexican border.
"I am not in favor of the wall, but if there is a wall, then I do not want the United States of America to pay for the wall," Moore told CBS News, saying that American taxpayers should not be burdened by Trump’s campaign promise.

The legislation is called the "No Taxpayer Funding for the Wall Act," which would prohibit any federal funding, including funding already set aside for that purpose, from going to the wall. The bill has reportedly already gained the support of three dozen Democrats.

Moore is also hoping to gain support from Republicans who are worried about the cost of the border wall.

"My bill gives amazing opportunities, I think, to people like Jim Jordan to opt out of building the wall," she said, referring to the Republican lawmaker from Ohio. "I’m trying to mobilize some interest in my bill from deficit hawks."

Government
CIA's Creator Came to Regret It ... Said the CIA Was a 'Government All Its Own' Which Was Destroying Democracy
[Zero Hedge] President Truman created the CIA.

He explained that it was solely an attempt to consolidate intelligence from many different intelligence agencies (page 285):
I needed ... the President needed at that time a central organization that would bring all the various intelligence reports we were getting in those days, and there must have been a dozen of them, maybe more, bring them all into one organization so that the President would get one report on what was going on in various parts of the world. Now that made sense, and that's why I went ahead and set up what they called the Central Intelligence Agency.
But in the 1970s, he told his biographer, Merle Miller (page 285):

I think [creation of the CIA] was a mistake. And if I'd know what was going to happen, I never would have done it.

Why, they've got an organization over there in Virginia now that is practically the equal of the Pentagon in many ways. And I think I've told you, one Pentagon is one too many.
Now, as nearly as I can make out, those fellows in the CIA don't just report on wars and the like, they go out and make their own, and there's nobody to keep track of what they're up to. They spend billions of dollars on stirring up trouble so they'll have something to report on. They've become ... it's become a government all of its own and all secret. They don't have to account to anybody.

That's a very dangerous thing in a democratic society, and it's got to be put a stop to. The people have got a right to know what those birds are up to. And if I was back in the White House, people would know. You see, the way a free government works, there's got to be a housecleaning every now and again, and I don't care what branch of the government is involved. Somebody has to keep an eye on things.

And when you can't do any housecleaning because everything that goes on is a damn secret, why, then we're on our way to something the Founding Fathers didn't have in mind. Secrecy and a free, democratic government don't mix. And if what happened at the Bay of Pigs doesn't prove that, I don't know what does. You have got to keep an eye on the military at all times, and it doesn't matter whether it's the birds in the Pentagon or the birds in the CIA.

Similarly, President Kennedy said he wanted "to splinter the CIA in a thousand pieces and scatter it to the winds". But he was assassinated a month later.

Former intel official says ex-NSA hacked Democrats, blamed Russians
[Right Scoop] Retired Lt. Colonel Tony Schaeffer tells Sean Hannity that it was former members of the NSA that hacked the Democrats and made it look like the Russians. Of course, Hannity loved the idea, since he’s been pushing it for a while now.

I’m not sure why Hannity has such a bug up his Obama to exonerate Putin, but he’s been on this conspiracy theory for a while. Unfortunately for him, Schaeffer doesn’t put the blame on Obama, but he puts it on anti-Hillary Americans who happen to be former NSA or other intelligence officials. This all seems very unlikely to me, but I have to admit the argument is helped when it’s a former intelligence official backing it up.

BUT, what makes me very wary of all of these conspiracy theories is one fact ‐ Trump could very easily get evidence of all of this within minutes, and has the power to declassify all of it. So why doesn’t he?

Trump administration to host 68-nation meeting on ways to ‘accelerate' destruction of ISIS
[Wash Times] The Trump administration will gather 68 foreign ministers from around the globe this month to figure out a more efficient strategy for decimating the Islamic State group.

The State Department confirmed Thursday that Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and U.S. allies will meet March 22-23 to "accelerate international efforts to defeat ISIS in the remaining areas it holds in Iraq and Syria and maximize pressure on its branches, affiliates and networks."

Coalition forces will also discuss ways to handle the ongoing humanitarian crisis playing out in Syria and Iraq as a result of the terror group’s presence in the region.

"It’s an opportunity for Secretary Tillerson to lay out the challenges that are facing the coalition moving forward," acting State Department spokesman Mark Toner said Thursday, Voice of America reported. "We all recognize that we have seen progress in defeating ISIS on the ground ... how do we leverage that success?" he said. "How do we build on that success?"

The meeting will take place less than one month after President Trump told a joint session of Congress that he would take "strong measures to protect our nation from radical Islamic terrorism."

"As promised, I directed the Department of Defense to develop a plan to demolish and destroy ISIS -- a network of lawless savages that have slaughtered Muslims and Christians, and men, women, and children of all faiths and beliefs," Mr. Trump said Feb. 28. "We will work with our allies, including our friends and allies in the Muslim world, to extinguish this vile enemy from our planet."

Pruitt starts steering EPA away from climate change, more toward clean water and air
[Wash Times] Scott Pruitt on Thursday made clear he doesn’t believe carbon dioxide is the main driver of climate change -- and his declaration touched off a firestorm among critics who interpret the remark as concrete proof that the EPA administrator plans to disregard the past eight years and take the agency in a new direction.

Mr. Pruitt offered the comments during a morning interview with CNBC as President Trump was preparing to sign an executive order reversing key government regulations on carbon pollution.

The EPA chief told CNBC that it’s challenging to truly measure humans’ effect on the climate and that there is "tremendous disagreement" about exactly how much carbon pollution contributes to climate change.

"I would not agree that [carbon] is a primary contributor to the global warming that we see," Mr. Pruitt said.
His remarks put him on the opposite side from most climate scientists, researchers and governments, and underscore a sharp break from the EPA’s approach over the past eight years.

Limiting toxic dumps is also a worthy goal. As with other agencies there has to be accountability. The Democrats' 'Red Scare' Narrative Is Over
BLUF: [PJ] One of the amusing aspects of the story is the extent to which it illustrates the principle articulated crisply by Kurt Schlichter on Monday:
"You Can Tell What Leftists Are Doing By What They Accuse Conservatives Of Doing"
In other words, "if you want to know what the liberals are up to, just listen to the lies they are telling about conservatives." Cavorting with Russians? It wasn't Trump, but how about selling 20% of US uranium interests to Putin? That would be something the Clintons arranged.

Talking to Russian banks about ending sanctions? That would be Tony Podesta, brother of John Podesta, Hillary's campaign manager, who took $170K last year from Russia's largest bank to help end one of the sanctions imposed by the Obama administration on Russian financial institutions.

The whole Trump/Russia meme is a tower of groundless insinuation built upon baseless fantasies of malfeasance. What we actually know is almost nothing. Maybe there was a FISA warrant requested by the Obama administration against persons and hardware located at Trump Tower in June that was denied. Maybe a narrower warrant was requested and granted in October. That's what has been reported and repeated endlessly to a chorus of "where there's smoke, there's fire."

Pence: US will 'use the full force of the law' on WikiLeaks if CIA leak legit
[The Hill] Vice President Pence on Thursday vowed that the Trump administration would "use the full force of the law" to go after those involved in WikiLeaks' latest document dump if the materials they released are shown to be valid CIA documents.

"Trafficking in national security information, as is alleged WikiLeaks has done here, is a very serious offense," Pence said during an interview on Fox News's "Special Report."

"It represents a compromise of the security of the American people," he said.

"This president and this administration will take that very seriously and use the full force of the law and resources of the United States to hold all of those to account that were involved," he added.

"If proven to be true and confirmed publicly, I can assure you that no resource will be spared in holding those [to] account that have leaked information that could well constitute a compromise of methods and a compromise of national security."

Colonel Mustard's Revenge: What Was Done to Undermine Trump
BLUF: [PJ] In any case, under this assumption, we must therefore infer that after the election, the Obama administration was not only using national security resources to intercept the communications of the president-elect and his team, but were then using selective leaks to cooperative press outlets to damage that incoming administration. Oh, and also committing federal felonies in the process.

Or, (2) in fact all those leaks about wiretaps were lies, planted by members of the Obama administration with cooperative press outlets, in order to damage the Trump administration.

Given the recent outright denials on the record by the ex-DNI and others, maybe that's the more likely explanation -- in which case, we know that members of the Obama administration were perfectly happy to lie to damage their successors, no matter the consequences.

In either case, however, given the number of open stories about how Trump's insiders were being tapped before Trump complained about it, the assertion that there is no evidence behind Trump's tweet is transparent nonsense.

And the evidence against Colonel Mustard is piling up.

Bill Clinton: Have to Bring ‘Simple, Personal Decency and Trust' Back to Politics
[Breitbart] During a speech at the Brookings Institution on Thursday, President Bill Clinton stated, "we have to find a way to bring simple, personal decency and trust back to our politics."

While speaking about former Israeli PM Yitzhak Rabin, Clinton said, "Finally, I think, somehow or another, we have to find a way to bring simple, personal decency and trust back to our politics." Clinton then discussed Rabin’s negotiations with the Palestinians, and how the Palestinians trusted his word more than a written contract, Clinton asked, "Can you imagine someone saying that today, in the world we’re living in?"

Clinton further said, "[I]t always comes down to two things, are we going to live in and us and them world, or a world that we made together? Is it going to be one set of rules for us, and another set for everybody else, or are we going to find a way to live through the same rules?"

AG Suggests Openness To Review of Predecessors' Actions

Attorney General Jeff Sessions suggested Thursday that he would be open to the appointment of an outside counsel to review actions taken by the Justice Department during the Obama administration.

Conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt asked Sessions in an interview if the new attorney general would consider designating an outside counsel "not connected to politics" to take a second look at Justice Department actions that provoked Republican ire in the last eight years. Those include the Fast and Furious gun scandal and the decisions against bringing criminal charges over Hillary Clinton's email practices or the Internal Revenue Service's treatment of conservative groups.

Turkey ‘Planning More Rallies in Germany’ despite Row
[AlManar] The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
is planning more rallies in Germany ahead of a crunch referendum in April, its foreign minister said Thursday, despite an acrimonious row with Berlin after local authorities banned several campaign events.

Mevlut Cavusoglu said he had already handed a list of the planned rallies to his German counterpart Sigmar Gabriel.

"We expect Germany to solve this problem. We are planning around 30 rallies. We had informed German authorities of them all," said the minister in quotes carried by private CNN-Turk television.

Turkey and Germany have been at loggerheads this week after local authorities blocked several rallies by Turkish ministers.

Turkish politicians are keen to harness votes in Germany, home to a massive Turkish community, ahead of an April 16 referendum on whether to create an executive presidency in Turkey.

"Mrs. Merkel is right, we have profound disagreements on some issues. For example the fight against terror," presidential front man Ibrahim Kalin told news hounds in Ankara.

Kalin accused Germany of "opening its door to those leading the ’No’ campaign in the referendum including the PKK and other terror organizations," referring to Kurdish bully boys.

The front man also criticized other European countries like Austria where Chancellor Christian Kern has called for a ban on Turkish politicians from politically campaigning across the EU.

"We have a very clear message: don’t work in vain, the people will decide, not you," Kalin said.
"You've already been conquered, you idiots, He added. "So just lie back and enjoy it." Here's hoping every election in Europe goes to the populists, followed by immediate action.

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
Ukrainians finger 2 for 2015 rocket artillery attack

Two men, one Russian and one Ukrainian have been identified by the Ukrainian internal security agency, the SBU for their role in a 2015 artillery attack on a bus in western Donetsk, according to several Russian language news accounts.

The attack took place January 13th, 2015 in Volnovaha, where Ukrainian military say a Russian backed rebel rocket artillery unit struck a passenger bus, killing 12.

According to a news report which appeared in korrespondent.net, Russian army Colonel Anatoly Sinelnikov and Yuri Shpakov combined to call a rocket artillery mission on top of a Ukrainian army checkpoint. The rocket artillery, said to be 122mm rockets from a BM-21 Grad rocket artillery launcher, was commanded by Shpakov. A separate news report in vesti.ukr.ua said that Shpakov is a Ukrainian national fighting in the service of the rebels. Col. Sinelnikov is identified as the commanding officer of the rebel 5th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade, the unit to which the rocket unit was attached.

The reports say that the rocket artillery unit was based in Dokuchaevsk when the incident occurred.

Reports at the time of the incident, quoting rebel sources, were that the bus was struck by a Ukrainian directional mine, similar to a Claymore mine. A video of the location released by the Ukrainian side showed rocket artillery impacts in the area, but rebel media said the video was doctored and that the impacts looked nothing like a BM-21 rocket artillery attack.

The SBU cannot bring charges against Col. Sinelnikov or Shpakov; they only can refer a criminal case to a prosecutor, likely the Ukrainian national prosecutor's office in Kiev. The reports do not indicate Col. Sinelnikov's location or current command, but they do say Shpakov is still in Dokuchaevsk.

Since the summer of 2015, BM-21 rocket launchers were removed by agreement from the line of contact by both sides. Before that time it was the most commonly used artillery by both sides. Despite the agreement by both sides not to use BM-21s, an occasional report filters out of both sides using the multiple rocket launcher system, to limited effect.

The BM-21 in its most common configuration has a range of about 20 kilometers, or about 12 miles. The distance between Dokuchaevsk and Volnovaha is close to 11 miles.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian media reports that five Ukrainian soldiers were wounded in ongoing artillery attacks along the line of contact in Donetsk and Lugansk.

According to a report which appeared in lb.ua, rebel mortar fire hit locations in southern Donetsk including at Novotroitskoye, Vodyanoye, Pavlopol and Bogdanovka. Near Donetsk city, rebel mortar fire hit Ukrainian positions at Avdievka. Rebel mortar fire also was reported in Lugansk at Novoaleksandrovka and Popasnaya.

Rebel media said the Ukrainian overnight shelling (Mar. 8th-Mar. 9th) hit several locations in Donetsk for a total of 388 shells. The locations hit by Ukrainian artillery include near Donetsk city at Gorlovka, Zaitsevo, Yasinovataya, Aleksandrovka, Trudovskoye and western outskirts of Donetsk city. In the south locations hit by Ukrainian overnight shelling include Yelenovka, Kominternovo and Oktyabrskoye.

According to a news release posted by the Donetsk ministry of defense, Ukrainian shelling struck several residential buildings at Yelenovka and Yasinovataya, damaging two buildings. Three more buildings were destroyed by Ukrainian artillery in Gorlovka and Zaitsevo.

Gas lines in southern Donetsk were damaged by early morning (March 9th) Ukrainian shelling in Kominternovo and Sahanka.

The military kills 8,500 pigs and goats every year for medical training. A new bill would end that
[WASHINGTONEXAMINER] A bipartisan group of politicians is trying to stop the Defense Department from killing about 8,500 goats and pigs a year in medical training exercises designed to prepare troops for combat.
Obviously we want to have more politicians teaching in our military medical courses.
Rep. Hank Johnson, D-Ga., and Rep. Tom Marino, R-Pa., introduced a bill on Tuesday that would require the military to use only "human-based methods" to train service members to treat injuries sustained on the battlefield and end the use of "live tissue training," in which troops stab or shoot pigs and goats to simulate the treatment of combat trauma, by Oct. 1, 2020.
My personal opinion is that if you've never seen blood you're not entitled to an opinion on bandaids.
Johnson told the Washington Examiner he intends to raise the issue during debate on the fiscal 2018 National Defense Authorization Act and hopes to use the must-pass bill as a vehicle to ban live-tissue training. He said simulators offer better combat training than live animals, are more humane and are ultimately more cost-effective.
If you've ever had a CPR course and then a few months or years later administered CPR you know it's not the same. If you haven't, you're still eligible to become a politician.
"It may cost more for a simulator than for a live animal in terms of initial outlay, but you can only use that animal once, you can use the simulator repeatedly. So over the course of time, it's better," he said.

FISA-gate: The New York Times Revises History in Real Time
[National Review] Now that the media-Democrat complex has been caught in its own web, there is some serious skullduggery underway. It’s revisionist history, Soviet style. You know, the kind where the bad stuff gets "disappeared."

The New York Times is disappearing its claim that Obama investigated Trump. For four months, the mainstream press was very content to have Americans believe -- indeed, they encouraged Americans to believe -- that a vigorous national-security investigation of the Trump presidential campaign was ongoing. "A counterintelligence investigation," the New York Times called it.

As I contended in a column this weekend, it was essential for the media and Democrats to promote the perception of an investigation because the scandalous narrative they were peddling -- namely, that Trump-campaign operatives conspired with the Putin regime to "hack the election" -- required it. Russia obviously did not hack the election.

Russian intelligence services may have hacked e-mail accounts of prominent Democrats, although even that has not been proved. And there is even less evidence of collusion by the Trump campaign in that effort -- as one would expect, in light of the intelligence agencies’ conclusion that the Russians sought to hack accounts of both major parties.

Taliban stones woman to death, whips man over adultery in Badakhshan
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The Taliban Lions of Islam have stoned a woman to death but left the man after whipping him over adultery in northeastern Badakhshan province of Afghanistan.

According to the local officials, the incident took place in the remote and restive district of Wardoj.

The district administrative chief Dawlat Mohammad Khawar confirmed the incident and said the woman was stoned to death after she faced a trial openly along with the man from the Taliban Lion of Islams.

This is not the first time the Taliban Lions of Islam have public tried and executed women over adultery and other charges in Badakhshan.

According to the statistics provided by the local officials, the group has executed at least five women over various charges in the past two years in this province.

The Taliban Lions of Islam executed at least two women including a pregnant woman and a girl in this province last month.

One of the victims was rubbed out by the Lions of Islam after she rejected a marriage proposal from one of their commanders while the other woman was killed after she had left the house of her in laws.

Shin Bet: Hezbollah operative in West Bank planned kidnappings
[IsraelTimes] Recruited through Facebook, Paleostinian locksmith allegedly joined Iran-backed terrorist group, collected intel on army bases.

The Shin Bet security service incarcerated
Book 'im, Mahmoud!
a young Paleostinian suspected of planning to kidnap Israelis and ferry them to Leb on behalf of the Hezbollah terrorist group, the agency said Thursday.

Yusef Yasser Sueilem, 23, was picked up in the city of Qalqilya in the end of January. On Thursday, an indictment was filed against him in a military court in the northern West Bank, the Shin Bet said.

His handlers instructed him to create a terrorist cell in order to carry out kidnappings and to smuggle the hostages into Lebanese territory.

"But Sueilem was arrested by the Shin Bet ahead of time, before he could carry out his planned attacks," the service said.

Sueilem, a locksmith, was also ordered to collect intelligence on army bases, checkpoints and "sites in the Old City of Jerusalem," the Shin Bet said.

He is believed to have been recruited by Hezbollah through a Facebook page. He later used an encrypted email address to communicate with a Hezbollah operative who went by the name "Abu Hassin," according to the security service.

In August, the Shin Bet also thwarted attempts by Hezbollah to recruit West Bank Paleostinians through Facebook in order to set up terror cells in the West Bank.

Through social media, the group was able to form two terror cells in the West Bank last year, the Shin Bet said at the time.

Within Israel, the Shin Bet also said it had detected multiple attempts by Hezbollah to recruit operatives from the country’s Arab population through a Facebook profile that posted anti-Israel and pro-Paleostinian sentiments.

Warplanes kill seven, injure 70 in Syria’s Deir al-Zor – Observatory
[IraqiNews] Air strikes pounded a town in the eastern Syrian province of Deir al-Zor on Thursday, killing seven civilians and injuring more than 70 others, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

The Britannia-based war monitoring group said two warplanes, believed to be Russian, dropped nearly two dozen bombs on al-Mayadin in the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. stronghold of Deir al-Zor.

The strikes hit a school sheltering displaced people, a bakery and residential areas in the town, which lies along the Euphrates river, the Observatory said.

The Syrian government and its Russian ally have repeatedly said they only target krazed killers.

Islamic State controls most of Deir al-Zor province, which borders Iraq, including more than half the city of the same name. The ultra-hardline jihadist group has besieged the remaining government-held areas of Deir al-Zor city for nearly two years.

Jets also hit the southern outskirts of the city on Thursday, the Observatory said.

Islamic State fighters launched their biggest attack in months on the government-held part of the city earlier in January, in a battle that killed dozens.

The Syrian and Russian air forces hit back against Islamic State positions, and have regularly struck the city and surrounding rural areas since then, the Observatory said.

Air strikes southeast of Syria’s Raqqa kill 23 people: Observatory

’s base in Syria, a war monitoring group said.

The warplanes were believed to belong to the U.S.-led coalition against the Islamic State holy warriors, the Britannia-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

The jets struck the village of al-Matab southeast of Raqqa, near the Euphrates River, the Observatory said, adding that several air raids had also pounded areas east of the city.

An alliance of Syrian militias has been waging an offensive on Raqqa with air strikes and special ground forces from the U.S.-led coalition.

The U.S.-backed Syrian Democratic Forces cut the last main road out of Raqqa this week, severing the highway between the city and the holy warrior group’s stronghold of Deir al-Zor.

The U.S. military has said it makes "extraordinary efforts" to avoid civilian deaths in its bombing campaign against Islamic State in Syria and Iraq.

The military’s estimates of civilians killed by coalition air strikes are generally far lower than those of monitoring groups.

a Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, parliamentarian from a village outside Hebron early Thursday morning, the Shin Bet security service said.

Samira Halayka was picked up by the Israel Defense Forces from her home in al-Shuyukh, northeast of Hebron, as part of a series of overnight raids across the West Bank,

Four other alleged Hamas members were also arrested early Thursday morning, three of them in Tulkarem and one in Rafat, the IDF said.

Halayka is the latest high-ranking Hamas official to be picked up by the army in recent days. On Monday, two other Hamas members of the Paleostinian parliament -- Anwar Zabun and Khaled Tafesh -- were arrested, along with Ghassan Hermas, a professor at al-Quds University in nearby Abu Dis.

The Shin Bet confirmed that Halayka had been arrested, but would not say what she was suspected of doing.

"At the end of her interrogation, we will be able to elaborate," the security agency said.

The Border Police said it had also arrested a 30-year-old Paleostinian suspect after finding two illegally owned rifles and ammunition in Tulkarem.

Another Paleostinian man was also arrested by border guards in Hebron, after they found an M-16 assault rifle in his possession, police said.

Elsewhere in the West Bank, IDF troops arrested three Paleostinians suspected of throwing rocks at vehicles on West Bank roads and taking part in violent protests against Israeli troops.

Two were arrested in Qalandiya and the third was picked up in Qatana, the army said.

During the Cold War, the US and the Soviets played Mutual Assured Destruction. Despite snark about the acronym MAD, this worked because ICBM flight time between the two countries is roughly 30 minutes which meant no one could get in a first strike sucker punch.

Flight time between NKor and Japan looks to be about 3~4 minutes. With so little time for the defender to respond, if push comes to shove, making the first move starts to look pretty attractive.

Rand Paul leads charge against GOP ‘Obamacare-lite’ plan, files repeal-only bill
[RT] Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky is one of several Republicans who have vowed to vote against the GOP’s bill to repeal-and-replace Obamacare
... aka the Affordable Care Act, an ineptly designed and worse executed piece of legislation designed to bring 17 percent of the U.S. economy under the direct control of the government. The previous iteration, known as Hillarycare, was laughed out of Washington. This stinker was passed on a party-line vote without being read...
. Instead, he has introduced legislation that would simply repeal the Affordable Care Act.
Unfortunately, Obamacare has sufficiently distorted the healthcare economic structure that you can't just repeal the damned thing, anymore than you can outlaw HMOs and PPOs and the other artificial structures that add to healthcare costs and go back to Blue Cross-Blue Shield, the original market distortion. Costs won't lower (at least not quickly) without the Rube Goldberg mechanism in place. Nor will they get rid of the hideous tort law industry.
House Republicans published their Obamacare replacement legislation, entitled the American Health Care Act, on Monday. Their 123-page proposal, which is supported by the Trump administration, would give power and decision-making back to the states, restore the free market to health insurance, and provide $10 billion a year from Congress to the states to subsidize Medicaid and ensure continuing coverage, the bill’s architects said. Tax credits toward health care would be available immediately, grow with age, expand with family, and transfer with employment.

The pictures circulated on social media purportedly show the bully boyz are equipped with suicide kaboom vests and belts.

The loyalists of the terror group have released the pictures via its media wing, the Amaq news.

The attack on Sardar Mohammad Daud Khan hospital was launched around 9 am local time after one of the bully boyz detonated his explosives near the hospital.

The remaining bully boyz started festivities with the security forces that lasted until later on Wednesday afternoon.

The Ministry of Defense (MoD) officials said at least thirty people were killed and around 50 others were maimed in the attack.

MoD front man Gen. Dawlat Waziri confirmed the casualties toll.

According to the officials, the bully boyz had disguised themselves in health workers uniforms to penetrate inside the hospital and indiscriminately open fire on the workers and the patients.

Republicans want to know why Trump hasn't fired the IRS head
[FOXNEWS] Nearly two months into the Trump administration, the IRS
...the Internal Revenue Service; that office of the United States government that collects taxes and persecutes the regime's political enemies...
commissioner House Republicans once threatened with impeachment remains on the job.

John Koskinen's continued tenure may be surprising, considering how aggressively Republicans went after him under the B.O. regime. But despite a sustained push by congressional Republicans to oust the IRS chief before his five-year term expires this November, President Trump so far has made no move to do so.

Just last week, Koskinen was seen in the Capitol and told Fox News he was there to meet with "old friends." Asked if he intended to stay on as commissioner during the Trump administration, Koskinen simply said, "They haven’t talked to me."

A White House official, asked about the commissioner's future, also told Fox News on Wednesday they had no personnel announcements "at this time."

House Republicans aren't giving up their quest to show Koskinen the door.

"President Trump should fire Commissioner Koskinen and replace him with someone that will bring integrity and competence to the IRS," House Judiciary Committee Chariman Bob Goodlatte, R-Va., told Fox News on Tuesday.

Just days after Trump took office, Republican Study Committee Chairman Mark Walker, R- N.C., along with 53 other House Republicans, also wrote a letter asking the new president to remove Koskinen.

"The consideration of the impeachment of IRS Commissioner John Koskinen in the House in late 2016 was a clear indication that Congress and the American people have no confidence in Commissioner Koskinen or his ability to discharge his duties," Walker wrote, nudging the president by citing statutory language giving him authority to strip Koskinen of his title. Doing so, he claimed, would "restore the credibility" of the federal tax authority.

"We have not received a response to our letter," an aide at the Republican Study Committee told Fox News. "We understand, however, the administration remains busy putting its team in place, and we look forward to its response."

A White House spokesperson told Fox News they received the January letter and "are currently reviewing it."

Ax attacker at Düsseldorf main train station arrested
Sudden Jihad Syndrome, mental problems, or both? Filed on Page 1: WoT until further information clarifies.
[DW] Police converged on Dusseldorf's main railway station after an attacker with an ax injured seven people. Authorities believe the 36-year-old suspect they detained acted alone.

Police in Dusseldorf have placed in durance vile
Drop the rod and step away witcher hands up!
a man who allegedly went on a rampage with an ax at the city's main station on Thursday night that left at least seven people injured.

The suspect jumped from a bridge in an attempt to escape police. He was brought to a nearby hospital with severe injuries.

Dusseldorf police later identified the suspect as a 36-year-old man "from the former Yugoslavia" who lives in the nearby city of Wuppertal. Investigators said they believe the man likely acted alone "based on the current state of investigations."

"The suspect seems to have psychological problems," they said in a statement.

Federal police front man for the regional state of North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW), Rainer Kerstiens, told Deutsche Welle that the incident had likely been an "amok"-attack, a term which loosely translates to someone "running amok" and is used in German to refer to a violent rampage.

The suspect reportedly first attacked several people on a local train, then continued his rampage on several platforms and in the main hall of the main station.

According to the Dusseldorf police, there were at least seven victims - three persons suffered severe injuries, while four sustained minor injuries.

Dpa quoted witnesses as saying that injured people were stretchered out of the station. Others were treated in emergency service vehicles.

Authorities were alerted to the attack shortly before 9 p.m. local time (2000 GMT), prompting a large-scale response. The station was evacuated and sealed off during the manhunt for the attacker. It remained closed for several hours. All trains running through the station were cancelled or rerouted. A helicopter circled over a building in the center of Dusseldorf, the regional capital of NRW.

DW news hound Mark Hallam said via Twitter that many people remained near the station on Thursday night, "hoping to get home later."

At 12.45 a.m. local time, the train station was reopened with exception of sites where people had been attacked. Dusseldorf police announced on Twitter that the "main station has been largely reopened."

#3  Update from the Daily Mail article linked above:

The suspected culprit, identified as Fatmir H, 36, from Kosovo, has been arrested and German anti-terror police confirmed they are not hunting anyone else.

He was diagnosed as a paranoid schizophrenic with a history of high anxiety and self-harm, police said, ruling out a terrorist motive.

They said he was in an 'exceptional mental state' at the time.

Incidentally, a second Daily Mail article this morning reported a second attack in Dusseldorf: this time with a machete on an elderly man in a parking lot. That attacker is still being hunted. Nothing in the article suggests the identity or motivation of the new attacker.

Deutsche Welle has a new article on the subject, which adds the following updates:

The suspect, a 36-year-old man from Kosovo, was detained in Düsseldorf following a brief manhunt, senior police official Dietmar Kniep said at a press conference on Friday.
Nine people were wounded when the man allegedly began lashing out at train passengers with an ax on Thursday night.

Kniep said police had ruled out terrorism, and that the alleged attacker appeared to be suffering from mental illness.

"He said in a first interview that he was trying to get police to shoot him," Kneip said. "We call it 'suicide by cop'."

"There is no evidence at all of any religious or political motive at all," he added.

Medical documents found at the suspect’s home in the nearby city of Wuppertal indicated that he had been diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia, police said. The man's brother said he had purchased an ax last week because he thought he was being followed.

The suspect reportedly first attacked several people on a local train as it arrived at Düsseldorf’s central station, then continued his rampage on several platforms and in the main hall of the building.

According to Düsseldorf police, four female passengers, including two Italian tourists and a 13-year-old girl, as well as five men, were injured. Four of the nine victims were seriously wounded but none were in a life threatening condition.

Prosecutors said the alleged attacker, who came to Germany in 2009, would be charged with nine counts of attempted manslaughter.

Man allegedly posing as Bieber online charged in Australia
[Daily Excelsior] A 42-year-old Australian man who allegedly posed as Justin Bieber online to solicit explicit images from children has been charged with more than 900 child sex offenses, police said today.

Bieber, a 23-year-old Canadian pop singer, is currently in Australia performing his “Purpose World Tour.” Police have warned young fans and their parents to be extra vigilant when using the internet.

Gordon Douglas Chalmers, a law lecturer at the Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane, was charged in November with using Facebook and Skype to impersonate the star, after tip-offs from US and German authorities. Chalmers was charged with using a carriage service to procure and groom children for sex and to access child pornography. He was also charged with possessing child porn.

As a result of warrants issued in November to search his social media and messaging accounts and cloud servers, Chalmers was charged this week with another 931 child sex offenses dating back a decade, including rape and making child exploitation material, a police statement said.

“The fact that so many children could believe that they were communicating with this particular celebrity highlights the need for a serious rethink about the way that we as a society educate our children about online safety,” Police Detective Inspector Jon Rouse said in a statement.

“The breadth of offenses committed in this instance is frankly horrendous,” Rouse added.

Police have not said how many children had become victims or in what countries they live. But Rouse said the investigation showed “the global reach and skill that child sex offenders have to groom and seduce victims.”

Chalmers has yet to enter pleas. It is not clear how long he could spend in prison if convicted.

EPA senior staff begin to flee amid budget fears
President Trump did promise he would downsize the government by attrition.
[WASHINGTONEXAMINER] A senior staffer at the Environmental Protection Agency resigned from the agency Thursday amid concerns that many of agency's programs will be shuttered under the forthcoming Trump budget.

The founder of the EPA's environmental justice office, Mustafa Ali, resigned Thursday, saying he has never seen such a concerted effort to roll back programs with a track record of helping disadvantaged and low-income communities.

The office addresses environmental challenges facing low-income communities, such as the lead-contaminated water crisis that dominated the headlines last year in Flint, Mich. Ali had served as senior adviser on environmental justice issues, after founding the office in the 1990s.

The news was first reported by the environmental news website InsideClimate.

This is the EPA, why are they doing shit like this? Precisely programs like this are why the EPA long ago exceeded its mandate. This is precisely why the EPA needs to be rolled back. It's creating new jobs for itself outside of its role in society.

Women’s Day Protest Groups Conflict over Race in Santa Cruz
[BREITBART] Conflict emerged between protest groups demonstrating on International Women’s Day in downtown Santa Cruz, Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party, on Wednesday, as a "Brown Squad" focused on racial issues faced off against a "less diverse" group of protesters.

The local Santa Cruz Sentinel described an "intense conflict" between the two protest groups, which it described as follows:

The protest’s two distinct groups clearly had different agendas. The first included roughly 75 younger protesters, mostly women of color, who marched down from UC Santa Cruz. This group’s messaging was focused on racism, white privilege, patriarchal oppression, as well as transgender and queer issues.

The second group consisted of about 150 women and a few men dressed mostly in red who had been brought together by the Santa Cruz General Strike Organizing Committee. Older and less diverse, this group focused on issues primary to the larger International Women’s Day Strike -- reserving most of its anger for the administration of President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
"Gimme yer stuff!"
"No!"
"Help! Help! I'm being oppressed!"
"Help! Help! I'm being oppressed!"

The "Brown Squad" was the more radical of the two, according to the Sentinel. It blocked traffic downtown, leading to a tense standoff with a pickup truck driver that was captured on YouTube.
"Help! Help! I'm being oppressed! [THUMP!] Ow!"
At one point, a member of the "Brown Squad" delivered a speech to the "less diverse" group, exhorting it to address its own internal privilege, according to the Sentinel:
"Ally-ship means getting off your high horse and realizing that other people are suffering a lot more than you ... To join those people over there you have to address the darkness within you."
But if they have darkness within they aren't truly less diverse, as the current cant has it, meaning the Brown Squad is confusing apparent appearance with felt reality, the bigots.

This seems a case of one group trying to hijack another group and failing! I'm still trying to figure out which group was trying to do the hijacking and cane to the conclusion that both groups (as well as other not mentioned groups) were trying to hijack each others.

Hilarities resulted!

18th Amendment is back in Utah
[NYPOST] Utah could soon have the strictest DUI threshold in the nation after state politicians on Wednesday night voted to lower the limit for a driver’s blood-alcohol content to 0.05 percent, down from 0.08 percent.
I see the 18th Amendment is back.
The measure heads to Utah’s governor, who has said he supports the legislation.

If Republican Gov. Gary Herbert signs the bill, it would take effect Dec. 30, 2018 -- an unusual effective date for Utah laws that would ensure the harsher standard is in place before alcohol-laden celebrations on New Year’s Eve.

Supporters of the legislation said it would save lives by keeping people off the road if they’ve been drinking. A mix of politicians, including Democrats and libertarian-leaning Republicans, opposed the measure. Some cited concerns that it could hurt tourism as the heavily Mormon state grapples with its reputation as an unfriendly place for drinkers.

The proposal would mean that a 150-pound man could get a DUI after two beers, while a 120-pound woman could get one after a single drink, according to the American Beverage Institute, a restaurant trade group that opposes the bill. A number of factors, including how much food is in someone’s stomach, could impact how much a drink will raise someone’s blood-alcohol content.

American Beverage Institute managing director Sarah Longwell said in a statement Wednesday night that the proposal will do little to make roads safer because more than 77 percent of alcohol-related traffic deaths in Utah come from drivers with a blood-alcohol content of 0.15 and above. "Utah politicians missed an opportunity today to target the hard-core drunk drivers who cause the vast majority of drunk driving fatalities and instead decided to criminalize perfectly responsible behavior," Longwell said.

Lawmakers in Washington are considering lowering the limit for blood-alcohol content this year, while a similar proposal recently died in Hawaii’s Legislature.

Across the country, the blood-alcohol content limit for most drivers is 0.08, but limits vary among states for commercial drivers or drivers who have had a past DUI conviction.

Rep. Norm Thurston (R-Provo), who sponsored Utah’s measure, said it’s important because a person starts to become impaired with the first drink. He notes a number of foreign countries have blood-alcohol content thresholds at 0.05 or lower.

Police believe single caller menacing JCCs, as more buildings threatened
Also see this.
[IsraelTimes] New York police intelligence chief says one man using a voice changer and phone spoofing device likely responsible for most incidents; Brooklyn Jewish museum and Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party, JCC evacuated.

New York City’s head of police intelligence said Thursday that Sherlocks believe one man using a voice changer and phone spoofing device is behind a large number of the scores of threats made against US Jewish institutions this year.

John Miller appeared on the show "CBS This Morning," describing the attacks as coordinated. The spoofing device makes it appear the call is not coming from the number the man is using, and makes it appear it’s coming from within the institution, he said.

"We have an offender with some technical prowess here," Miller said.

The Anti-Defamation League says 148 threats targeting Jewish institutions have been received across the country since January.

On Thursday, a Jewish children’s museum in Brooklyn was evacuated for a few hours after police investigated an emailed bomb threat. Hours later a JCC in Los Gatos, California, near San Jose, was evacuated over a bomb threat.

One arrest has been made in the threats, a St. Louis man accused of making eight of the calls in an effort to harass his ex-girlfriend. Juan Thompson has asked a federal judge in Missouri to release him on bond as he faces the federal charges out of New York. Thompson’s lawyer declined comment.

Miller said the New York Police Department is working with federal officials who are the lead Sherlocks on the case. He said he’s working with institutions in New York to help them manage responses to the threats.

"Most of the time, the person who’s legitimately trying to do harm doesn’t call ahead to diminish the amount of harm he or she is doing," he said.

3 teens send anonymous apology, $50 for library swastika

[Ynet] Three teenagers have delivered an anonymous apology note and $50 to the Pennsylvania library where they sprayed a swastika using shaving cream in a parking lot. The teens left the envelope containing the note and the money in a book depository at the Exeter Community Library. Police and firefighters were called to wash away the graffiti on Friday. The envelope was found by library workers on Monday.

The teens' note says they are "three stupid teenagers apologizing for our heinous acts."

The teens go on to say that they didn't intend to offend or hurt anyone. The teens say they "all have religious roots and did not intentionally mean this as any form of hate speech or dislikeness towards any culture."

The teens apologized and say they'll never do anything like that again.

Florida homeless man to be charged for scratching swastikas

[IsraelTimes] An incarcerated homeless man will be charged with criminal mischief for allegedly scratching swastikas into several cars in a Jewish neighborhood in Miami Beach. The swastikas were found on the cars on February 26, including one owned by a non-Jewish family.

Timothy Merriam, 61, is already in jail on charges of using scissors to slash the tires of more than 100 rental bikes on Miami Beach owned by the city’s public bike share program. While in prison, he made statements that led detectives to believe that he had also scratched the swastikas into the cars, the Miami Herald reported, citing the Miami Beach police. Police told NBC Miami that they will be working with the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s office to determine if hate crime charges should also be filed.

Police have video evidence connecting Merriam to both the swastika vandalism and the tire slashing.

They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group's de facto capital, Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim said Thursday.

Turkey and the U.S. are locked in a heated dispute about U.S. plans to liberate Raqqa, with Turkey insisting its own military and allied forces in Syria should mount the fight and that U.S.-backed Syrian Kurds should be excluded.

Though the U.S. has been hoping to include both Turkey and the battle-hardened Kurdish forces, Yildirim insisted Turkey wouldn't be part of any operation including the Syrian Kurdish force known as the YPG, considered by Ankara to be holy warriors who threaten Turkey's security.

"If the U.S. were to prefer terrorist organizations over Turkey in the fight against IS, that would be their own decision, but that wouldn't be something we would consent" to, Yildirim told The News Agency that Dare Not be Named.

The prime minister also took issue with President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
's use of the phrase "radical Islamic terrorism" and said "we would be actually happy if our friends were to be a bit more cautious about this issue."

In an earlier exchange with visiting foreign journalists, Yildirim said ties between the two countries would be significantly undermined, though he declined to name any specific steps Turkey -- a member of the U.S.-led coalition fighting IS -- might take in response. In the past, Turkey has hinted it could cut off access to Incirlik air base, home to coalition warplanes.

Though no decision has been formally announced, the U.S. has been sending signals that it is inclined to rely on the Kurdish forces, who have proven the most effective local force at battling IS. U.S. officials have said that Turkey, which has troops in Syria and is aiding other Syrian opposition fighters, has thus far failed to show that it has a force sufficiently large and capable to liberate Raqqa, the largest remaining IS stronghold.

US ambassador to UN: Kim Jong Un 'is not rational'

...the overweight, pouty-looking hereditary potentate of North Korea. Pudge appears to believe in his own divinity, but has yet to produce any loaves and fishes, so his subjects remain malnourished...
in unusually personal terms on Wednesday.

"This is not a rational person," she told news hounds at the UN. "He is not thinking clearly."

Haley spoke after the latest urgent UN meeting addressing Pyongyang's actions, this time after North Korean missiles fell in Japanese fishing areas.

Frustration at the UN is high after rounds of sanctions and numerous resolutions and statements of condemnations have failed to stem the behavior.

The UN Security Council, which held closed-door consultation Wednesday, remains united in opposition to North Korea's missile launches. But determining the next options that might deter Pyongyang's behavior is difficult.

Usually US diplomats issue sharp criticism of the country, not the leader, of North Korea. Haley in her two months on the job has targeted Iran and Russia. She upped the rhetoric in her personal broadside Wednesday.

But beyond personal attacks, what can the UN do? Before Haley spoke, the council had already issued one of its toughest statements of denunciation ever on the latest incident, which involved the launch of four missiles.

Asked if the arsenal for further action is depleted, Haley responded, "All the options are on the table."

She said that each country would return to its capitals and investigate "what else we can do to get the attention of North Korea."

Two Years Later, IRS Locates 6,924 Documents Related to Tea Party Targeting
[FREEBEACON] The Internal Revenue Service has located 6,924 documents potentially related to the targeting of Tea Party conservatives, two years after the group Judicial Watch filed a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit for them.
I'd like to request a search for documents related to IRS targetting of organizations supporting Israel next, please.
The watchdog group intended to find records regarding how the IRS
...the Internal Revenue Service; that office of the United States government that collects taxes and persecutes the regime's political enemies...
selected individuals and organizations for audits that were requesting nonprofit tax status.

The agency will not say when it will make the documents available to the public.

"At this time, the Service is unable to provide an estimate regarding when it will complete its review of the potentially responsive documents," the agency said. "The Service will begin producing any non-exempt, responsive documents by March 10, 2017, and, if necessary, continue to produce non-responsive records on a bi-weekly basis."

Tom Fitton, president of Judicial Watch, is calling on President Trump to clean house at the agency.

"The corruption at the IRS is astounding," Fitton said in a statement. "Our attorneys knew that there were more records to be searched but the Obama IRS ignored this issue for years. President Trump needs to clean house at the IRS as quickly as possible."

Arrest of ISIS suspect in rural town puts Aussies on edge
[NYT] In recent years, the small Australian town of Young has seen a steady influx of Lebanese Muslim families. Among them are members of the Zahab family. Now one of them, Haisem Zahab is accused of using the internet to try to help the Islamic State develop a guided missile. Officials suspect that some of his relatives traveled to Syria to join the extremist group.

The allegations about the Zahab family have shaken many residents in the town, who have long taken pride in its peaceful multiculturalism. They have also stoked some of the worst fears about homegrown links to terrorism in a country that is grappling with immigration policy and labor shortages.

Zahab was arrested during a raid at his property on February 28. He was accused of researching and designing a long-range guided missile and laser warning device for use by Islamic State militants.

Zahab's extended family had been under investigation for 18 months, and officials suspected that some of his relatives had traveled to Syria to join the Islamic State and had sent money from the sale of their Sydney home to terrorists in Syria. A police report detailed how investigators believed the family had moved money there.

Zahab was charged with foreign incursion offenses, which are antiterrorism statutes that carry a maximum penalty of life in prison. After Zahab's arrest, police officers spent days searching his 10-acre property, using metal detectors and digging up the yard in search of evidence.

His arrest comes as Australians have been on heightened alert. The terrorism threat level in the country was elevated to "probable" in September 2014, and since then there have been four attacks tied to terrorism in Australia. Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull said that a dozen more have been foiled and that more than 60 people have been charged as a result of counterterrorism operations across the country.

In recent days, Turnbull, who has seized on Zahab's arrest as "yet another reminder of the enduring threat we face from Islamist terrorism," has ramped up his language, declaring his country’s objective is to kill Islamic State fighters. He said, "Our goal as far as those who serve with Daesh in the Middle East is to kill them. Let me be quite frank — that is our goal."

Four Abu Sayyaf militants slain in Basilan
[ABS-CBN] Four Abu Sayyaf rebels, including a relative of terrorist leader Isnilon Hapilon, were killed in a military offensive on Wednesday morning in Basilan province.

A 30-minute clash between 15 Abu Sayyaf militants and joint elements of the military and the police resulted in the death of Ustadz Mobin Kulin, alias Mulawin, a cousin of Hapilon, in Tapiantana Island. Three other Abu Sayyaf members were also killed, based on corpses recovered from the battle site.

Kulin was an "active and hardcore" Abu Sayyaf militant from Lantawan, Basilan who was involved in the Lamitan siege and Dos Palmas incidents in the province, according to the military.

7 Reasons Yesterday’s ‘Day Without A Woman’ Was Asinine
[DAILYWIRE] The Day Without A Woman was idiotic for many, many reasons. Here were the stupidest things about it:
So we had a day in which men worked and women stayed home. How ... progressive...
1. No Purpose. What exactly was the purpose of Day Without A Woman? Was it to shut down the economy? If so, giant fail: most women worked, and so did most men. If the marching women were so indispensible, you’d have expected to see the country come to a crashing halt. You’d also have expected employer costs to rise dramatically, since supposedly women work for far less than men. It didn’t happen. Instead, a bunch of women didn’t get paid for the day, heightening the aggregate wage gap, for which they’ll presumably blame the patriarchy. Or something.
Probably they did get paid, taking a vacation day or calling in sick. Thus a cost-free, danger-free, ummm... whatever it was.
2. Idiotic Ancillary Causes. It wasn’t just radical Muslim Linda Sarsour getting herself arrested at the Day Without A Woman. It was the event organizer Rasmea Youseh Odeh, a Palestinian terrorist responsible for the murder of two Israeli men. The march also focused on abortion and “solidary [sic] with the sex workers’ rights movement.”
That'd be hookers to the rest of us. Butts, bosoms, and BJs for cash.
Not sure how the women behind the event expect to reach consensus with such broad-based policies. It’s also hard to reach consensus on walking out of your job when women actually work to feed their families, and don’t have the luxury of leaving their job with the local public school to make a fuss.
If there's neither purpose nor sense involved then any old excuse will do. Or multiple unconnected excuses. Let's not kid ourselves like they're kidding themselves.
3. No Smiling. According to The Washington Post, some feminists spent the day refusing to smile. “Some feminists say the happy face they sport by habit – or on command – is a form of unpaid ‘emotional labor,’” reported The Washington Post. This, of course, is fake news: feminists never sport happy faces, and certainly don’t do so by habit. But it’s also insane. If you want to win friends and influence people, growling at them is sure a rotten way to do it. Speaking of which, what’s wrong with society inculcating in people that it’s good to be friendly? Do we want a society of men and women who go around frowning at each other? Does that sound like fun? The phrase “grin and bear it” doesn’t just apply to women.
To the scowling faced hairy old bitches of the world, Lynn Stewart's systers in resystance, I say Bite My Ass. I may spend a hundred bucks or so and have a tasteful pre-printed banner made up to that effect.
4. Wearing Red. The media were plastered with women wearing red. What was the purpose?
Commies wear red. Hookers supposedly wear red, though in my younger days I saw them sporting all sorts of colors.
No purpose. Just to show solidarity with other women.
And to commemorate Lynn Stewart's death?
And if you didn’t wear red, presumably, you weren’t a woman
I'm not. Never have been. Unlike Bruce Jenner, never even wanted to be.
or you hated women.
... just like most people who've never had a mother.
This was virtue signaling at its finest, and to no purpose.
We're down to protest for the sake of protest.
It’s one thing to wear a garment in solidarity with an actual cause. It’s another to do so in support of a majority demographic group that attains most of the degrees awarded in higher education each year in the United States. That feels more like preening than activism.
It sounds like they had nothing better to do.
5. Shutting Down Public Schools. Several public schools shut down entirely over the Day Without A Woman. That’s because two of the sponsors of the Women’s March are the National Education Association and the American Federation of Teachers. Which just shows that public sector unions destroy American education and the state and federal budgets at the same time.
My granddaughter's was among them. I don't want them growing up with the sort of nonsense shoved into their heads.
6. Saying Silly, Silly Things. Some of the greatest quotes in modern history came from yesterday’s event. In either an attempt to demonstrate that stereotypes about women and math are true, or simple outright stupidity, the Women’s March tweeted this quote from Nelini Stamp from the Working Families Party: “Women birth half the population and we are half the population!” So, who births the other half? Arnold Schwarzenegger in Junior?
The other half are brought by storks or found under cabbages. I found one once in a potato patch. Cute little booger, too.
Women who identify as men?
That's probably how we got Al Franken, a grown male who identified as a baby until elected to the World's Greatest Deliberative Body.
SCIENCE! Other hilarious quotes came from such sources as Elizabeth Warren, who proclaimed that she couldn’t take the day off because her job was just too important. As opposed to the other women’s jobs.
Certainly more important than teaching a room full of brats, half of whom were birthed by womyn.
7. Hillary Clinton Is Back. Hillary earned her own slot on this list. She showed up with a video she posted to Snapchat, looking like a refugee from NSYNC.
That's what they need, by Gum: Young faces, with fresh ideas.

Thare area bout 20 men dying from work accidents for every woman. What does that eman? that men and women don't the same jobs. And BTW the risk of losing life and limb translates into $$$.

I don't know but in France about 90% applyin,g for engineer schools are 90% men. Very few women undertake the brutal selection process for entering them. Know what? If you majored in women studies don't come whining becaus eyou get paid less than en electronics engineer.

Then thtre ia part time (mostly women), workaholics and programmer geeks who are mostly men (that is because men don't know what to do of their lives) and the fact women freqnetly interrupt their careers so they have lesse seniority.

When you account for all these afactors then according to Thomas Sowell there is a slight salary gap in favor of women.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
Reenactment Of Debates With Genders Switched 'Shocks' Liberal Audience
[DAILYWIRE] In a remarkable and revealing experiment about the impact of gender in the 2016 election, two self-described "liberal" professors joined forces to put on an "ethnodrama" based on key moments of the presidential debates between Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
and Hillary Clinton
... former first lady, former secretary of state, former presidential candidate, sometimes described by her supporters as the smartest woman in the world, usually described by the rest of us as a crook...
, in which actors of the opposite sex played the roles of the two candidates, exactly mimicking their every move and intonation. The results of the gender swapping experiment stunned both professors and the mostly liberal audiences who attended the performances.
Obviously the data were flawed.
NYU reports that while both professors say they "began the project assuming that the gender inversion would confirm what they’d each suspected watching the real-life debates: that Trump’s aggression--his tendency to interrupt and attack--would never be tolerated in a woman, and that Clinton’s competence and preparedness would seem even more convincing coming from a man," the result of the gender reversal was almost exactly the opposite.
You mean Hillarity was still wooden and condescending and Trump wasn't?
Many in the audience were "shocked" to find the male version of Hillary to actually be harder to admire than the real Hillary, while the female Trump seemed to "shine" in moments they'd remembered the real Trump "flailing or lashing out." The overall experience for many Hillary voters was both "bewildering and instructive."
"Flipped my blinders from verticle to horizontal, by golly! Now the sun don't get in my eyes. I'm kinda not as happy she won...
Maria Guadalupe, an economics and political science associate professor at INSEAD, first had the idea for the project after watching the second debate between Trump and Clinton. For help, she approached educational theater professor Joe Salvatore, who specializes in plays called "ethnodramas," which are theatrical adaptations of real life events documented in media artifacts, interviews, transcripts, journal entries, etc.
"Whuddya mean, 'She din't win?'"
In an interview with NYU published Feb. 28, Salvatore explained how surprised he and his colleague were by their reactions to the female Trump (renamed "Brenda King," played by Rachel Whorton) and the male Hillary ("Jonathan Gordon"/Daryl Embry).
"I din't know nobody who voted fo him!"
"We both thought that the inversion would confirm our liberal assumption--that no one would have accepted Trump’s behavior from a woman, and that the male Clinton would seem like the much stronger candidate," said Salvatore. "But we kept checking in with each other and realized that this disruption--a major change in perception--was happening. I had an unsettled feeling the whole way through."
"I'm gonna go demonstrate someplace! Where's my pussy hat?"
Salvatore noted that at one point he turned to Guadalupe and, in reference to the female Trump, said, "I kind of want to have a beer with her!"
The two minute video at the link is really worth watching.

Fifth Column
Billionaire George Soros fuels Democrats’ push to lower voting age to 17
[WASHINGTONTIMES] Stung by recent election defeats, Democrats are leading the charge to lower the voting age to 17, with a little help from liberal billionaire George Soros
...the secretive Hungarian born Ernst Stavro Blofeld-like billionaire who seems to fund every horrible progressive organization you can think of...
In Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party,, Democratic politicians introduced this week a landmark bill, ACA 10, that would give the Golden State the nation’s youngest statewide voting age by lowering the threshold from 18 to 17 in the name of reversing the slide in voter turnout.
How about nine? Doesn't have as many digits, y'know.
"Young people are our future," said Democratic Assembly member Evan Low, the measure’s sponsor. "Lowering the voting age will help give them a voice in the democratic process and instill a lifelong habit of voting."

The proposal comes as the most ambitious of a host of efforts to chip away at the 18-year-old voting age as Democrats seek to bring into the fold younger voters, who traditionally support more liberal causes and candidates than do their elders.

"It is a transparent ploy to pad the Democratic vote," said John J. Pitney Jr., American politics professor at Claremont McKenna College in Claremont, California, referring to the California bill.

Mr. Soros is on board: His Open Society Foundations is among the left-wing philanthropies backing FairVote, which has expanded its advocacy for reforms such as a national popular vote in order to exert downward pressure on the voting age.
That's fine for state and local elections, but would those votes be counted for presidential contests, given the national age limit is eighteen?

The Grand Turk
Turkey has no Mercy
In the increasing welter of warfare in northern Syria, one of the biggest U.S.-based humanitarian organizations operating in the area has become collateral damage, at least temporarily--and perhaps a sign of worsening relations between the government of The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
and the Trump Administration.

Mercy Corps, based in Portland, Ore., and one of the biggest non-government relief organizations in the world, was abruptly told on March 7 to shut down all its operations in Turkey, which are overwhelmingly aimed at providing cross-border aid to hundreds of thousands of refugees in neighboring northern Syria. The shutdown affects some 300 relief workers. Expatriates among them would have to leave the country and local workers would be laid off.

"Our hearts are broken by this turn of events, which comes after five years of cooperation with the government of Turkey and other local partners," the relief organization said in a blurb. It added that its operations inside neighboring Syria "will continue," presumably sourced from elsewhere. The organization was given no reason for its eviction.

There were no indications that other humanitarian organizations were affected by the sudden Turkish diktat. Turkey’s foreign ministry had issued no formal statements about the decision. Rooters, however, said that a Turkish government official called the decision "technical" and said that Mercy Corps had failed to meet some unspecified documentation requirements.

Nonetheless, Mercy Corps was proceeding with a wind-down plan. Said Christine Brigale,a spokesperson for Mercy Corps, "We are deeply committed to continue working in Turkey and to do what we can to resolve this issue and strengthen our partnership."

Investigators say threats to Jewish groups in U.S. and UK are linked
Also see this.
[Ynet] Scotland Yard and the Federal Bureau of Investigation are investigating more than a hundred bomb threats made to Jewish groups in the United States and Britannia since January 7, US and UK law enforcement and Jewish community officials said.

Investigators said there is evidence that some of the US and British bomb threats are linked. According to people in both countries who have listened to recordings of the threats, most of the them have been made over the telephone by men and women with American accents whose voices are distorted by electronic scramblers.

Waves of threats against US Jewish groups - including community centers, schools, and offices of national organizations such as the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) civil rights group - have been followed within hours by similar but smaller waves against Jewish organizations, mainly schools, in Britannia, Jewish community representatives in both countries said.

FBI officials in Washington confirmed that the agency is investigating the threats against US Jewish organizations. Sources in Britannia's Jewish community said London's Metropolitan Police, otherwise known as Scotland Yard, is conducting its own investigation and collaborating with the FBI.

Scotland Yard did not immediately respond to an email requesting comment.

Judge denies release request in Kansas bomb plot case
A reminder that not all terrorists are Islamicist...
A judge says a Kansas man accused of plotting to attack Somali immigrants poses “a grave danger” to the community if released.

U.S. District Judge Eric Melgren on Thursday denied Patrick Stein’s request for release. Prosecutors say Stein was the leader of a militia group called The Crusaders.

Melgren says Stein is a flight risk and the evidence against him is significant. The judge also says Stein has expressed extreme hatred and threatened violence against Muslims, and sought to obtain weapons and explosives.

Prosecutors allege Stein and co-defendants Gavin Wright and Curtis Allen conspired to detonate truck bombs at a 100-unit apartment complex where Somali immigrants live in Garden City, Kansas.

The three have pleaded not guilty to conspiring to use a weapon of mass destruction.

Southeast Asia
Maoist militants kill four cops in Mindanao
[Inquirer] Police and military officials have blamed the New People's Army for an ambush that killed four policemen and injured another in Bansalan town in Davao del Sur province on Wednesday morning. The attack happened a day after President Duterte said the government was holding back-channel talks with communist leaders for the possible resumption of the peace negotiations.

Police spokesman Samuel Gadingan said policemen from Bansalan and from the provincial office was headed to the upland village of Sibayan to investigate a murder incident when armed men, believed to be NPA militants, fired at their vehicles.

On Tuesday, President Duterte said the government had been doing back-channel talks with the National Democratic Front of the Philippines to discuss the possible resumption of peace talks, which he suspended on February 4 following NPA attacks in Mindanao.

Military spokesman Marion Angcao said, "Prior to the ambush, there had been reported sightings of NPA rebels in nearby communities."

He said the ambush was staged after troops clashed with militants in Barangay Alegre on February 25 when the military took over a major NPA camp in the village.

Lt. Col. Harold Argamosa, commander of the 39th Infantry Battalion in Makilala, a town in North Cotabato province adjacent to Bansalan, said the military deployed soldiers to pursue the suspects. Bansalan shares borders with Makilala and Kidapawan City, where the NPA's Front Committee 51 is known to operate.

In Quezon province, four suspected NPA militants were killed in a clash with soldiers in San Andres town on Tuesday.

Military spokesman Lenard Agustin said a team of 18 soldiers engaged at least 20 militants in a 30-minute firefight in Barangay Mabunga on Tuesday afternoon. He said the military was informed about the presence of armed men who were soliciting food and other forms of support in the village.

Agustin said soldiers arrested a militant after the fire fight. He declined to identify the rebel but said he was from Barangay Burgos in Mulanay town.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Trump Targets ISIS: U.S. Marines Just Landed In Syria
[DAILYWIRE] The United States is entering the next phase in its battle to destroy the jihadist cancer of ISIS. Taking the fight to ISIS’ capital, U.S. Marines have landed in Syria to supply artillery to the anti-ISIS coalition looking to launch an offensive campaign against the terror group in the de facto Islamic State capital of Raqqa. “Marines from an amphibious task force have left their ships in the Middle East and deployed to Syria, establishing an outpost from which they can fire artillery guns in support of the fight to take back the city of Raqqa from the Islamic State,” The Washington Post first reported Wednesday, citing defense officials who spoke off-the-record.

While the previous administration dispatched hundreds of “special advisers” and trainers from U.S. military Special Operations units to advise local militias, conventional warfare troops have never participated in the battle against ISIS in Syria.

“The force is part of the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit, which left San Diego on Navy ships in October,” notes The Post. “The Marines on the ground include part of an artillery battery that can fire powerful 155-millimeter shells from M777 Howitzers, two officials said, speaking on the condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the deployment.”

Over the last few months, U.S.-backed forces have been escalating attacks against ISIS strongholds in both Iraq and Syria. Disrupting ISIS activity and erasing territorial gains became a priority in the last days of the Obama presidency after years of dismissing the terror group as an irrelevant and non-threatening “jayvee team.”

The Trump administration has chosen to continue escalating the offensive, initiating the preliminary steps of a long-planned strategy to root ISIS out of northern Syria.

-Signs, Portents, and the Weather-
I Went to Hooters on The Day Without Women and It Changed My Life Forever
[FREEBEACON] I wasn't exactly sure what to expect when I decided earlier this week that the "Day Without a Woman" would be a good time to give Hooter's new smoked wings a try.

On one hand, Hooters is a massive restaurant chain that operates around the world and it would never allow its restaurants to be affected by some fringe protest. On the other hand, entire school districts in the D.C. area were closing up shop because so many women were taking the day off, and some restaurants said women could get paid leave if they wanted to participate in the day. Hooters, which famously sports an exclusively female wait staff budding with mounds of talent, is undoubtedly more susceptible to a women's strike than any other restaurant.

Despite the unknown, I ventured to Hooters on Wednesday afternoon. It was open and had quite a few cars in the parking lot.

I got a table by the bar and told my waitress that I was happy to see that Hooters was serving customers, given that it was the "Day Without a Woman."

"What are you talking about?" she asked.

She was not alone in her confusion, given that I also didn't know exactly what the day entailed. When I first heard about it I thought that organizers were going for the type of situation seen in HBO's The Leftovers, where a certain slice of the population is just gone and the rest of us have to survive without it. I had no idea that the intent of the "Day Without a Woman" was actually to have the women skipping work participate in large demonstrations and visibly disrupt commuters.

I explained what I was talking about and, given a bit of a push, she remembered seeing something about the protest.

"Oh, that thing with the girls?" she said. "That's not going down here. I wish I was still in school though, so I could get the day off."

That was the last we spoke about protests.

It was time to enjoy Hooters, and the circumstances were very ripe for enjoyment. Not only was the ACC tournament playing on one of the bar's large screens, but after I let them know that the New York Mets were playing the Boston Red Sox and that Tim Tebow was slotted in the eight hole, they quickly got the game up there on an equally large screen right next to it.

Then, as if my waitress knew exactly why I came, she let me know that the new Smoked Wings were all the rage lately. I ordered a large plate with the Texas BBQ dry rub.

Deported US vets in Mexico hope for return under Trump govt
[ABCNEWS.GO] After manning a machine gun on a combat helicopter as a U.S. Marine during the liberation of Kuwait, Antonio Romo came back to the United States traumatized by the death and carnage he saw.
How about a law that sez if you wore the green you're fast-tracked for citizenship regardless of how you got here? Walking into the recruiting office should legalize you.
He says he turned to alcohol and narcotics to try to quiet the nightmares, and made multiple suicide attempts. With addiction, he fell into dealing, and was arrested for selling cocaine. And after getting out of prison, Romo was deported in 2008 to Mexico, from where he had migrated to Lynwood, California, illegally at age 12.

Today he's part of a group of dozens of U.S. military veterans, most of them former legal residents but noncitizens, who were deported after criminal convictions and who for years have tried to convince multiple administrations to let them return. They acknowledge committing serious crimes such as felony drug dealing, but argue that they did their time and being kicked out of the country amounts to being punished twice.

Now these veterans are pinning their hopes on the new administration of Donald Trump, and their cause presents a sharp conflict for two of the new president's stated priorities: Trump has promised to support the military and veterans; at the same time, he has also moved to ramp up deportations of immigrants in the United States illegally — particularly those convicted of crimes.

#1  I'm not buying this.
1) Being a door gunner during Gulf Storm means you really didn't see shit
2) Sounds like this guy already had a love for booze and drugs and did nasty shit
3) There are already programs for fast tracking citizenship for people that serve and aren't citizens
4) This idiot didn't try those programs and decided to be a drug dealing fucktard and now is bemoaning his life choices

#3  #1 I'm not buying this. .....
100% - quite a bit of door, not much gun

There was short period of intense fighting but I'm not aware of any significant numbers of PTSD cases resulting from the conflict. It was Operation Desert Souvenir Hunt for me on Failaka Island.
