Hell Just Froze Over - Romney For Sec Of State?
Please tell me this is just a rumor - Mitt spent half the campaign trashing Trump, and this is how he gets repaid? It's gotta be bullshit, like half / most of the other stories we've seen this week about the transition and Trump's steak dinner.

Former Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney will meet with Donald Trump this weekend to discuss the secretary of state position, a source close to the president-elect with direct knowledge of his thinking told NBC News.

In March, the former Massachusetts governor called Trump "a phony" and "a fraud" when discussing the then-candidate. Trump has called Romney a loser and has said he "choked like a dog" during his 2012 presidential campaign against President Barack Obama.

Trump endorsed Romney during his presidential bid four years ago.

This story is developing. Please check back for further updates.

I'm looking for the retraction, myself...

Funny you mentioned that - four years ago, I was at a tax seminar when Mass. Dept. of Revenue guys showed up to talk about state tax issues. Before they started, they took questions, so I dropped this one on them: "Did John Kerry pay sales tax on his yacht yet?"

DOR hack - 'Uh, we can't comment on individual tax matters'. It was fun to watch him squirm for a few seconds.

Spy chief James Clapper resigns

The nation's top intelligence official on Wednesday evening submitted his letter of resignation, ensuring that President-elect Donald Trump will have the option to build his own network of intel leaders.

"I submitted my letter of resignation last night, which felt pretty good," Director of National Intelligence James Clapper told a House Intelligence Committee hearing on Thursday morning. "I have 64 days left and I would have a hard time with my wife for anything past that."

Clapper has long promised to leave his job at the end of President Obama's term in office, so his resignation was expected.

Psychiatry Professor: ‘Transgenderism' Is Mass Hysteria Similar To 1980s-Era Junk Science
[The Federalist] The movement’s philosophy qualifies it as a popular delusion similar to the multiple-personality craze, and the ’satanic ritual abuse’ and ’recovered memory’ hysterias of the 1980s and 90s.

Consider the remarkable phenomenon of transgenderism. A disorder of gender identity that afflicts a minuscule number of Americans has become a polarizing cultural cause celebre. Its influence--in capturing public attention and demanding social change--has been extraordinary, out of all proportion to the numbers of the gender-dissatisfied.

While the political left has fully embraced the transgender agenda as a "civil right" opposed by only the bigoted and hateful, many people see the movement as a concerted attack on traditional social mores and customs, an "in your face" assault on conventional standards, practices, and morality.

Clearly, the transgender phenomenon is the tip of the spear of the LGBT movement, greatly energized by the Supreme Court decision on same-sex marriage that includes in the definition of liberty the right of people to "define and express their identity." For the LGBT movement this literally includes the right to decide one’s gender, to claim the rights of an alternative gender (since gender is malleable, there are choices other than simply male or female), have the choice acknowledged by society as a civil right, and ultimately become accepted as a conventional lifestyle.

However, transgenderism as a normative lifestyle may be a hard sell. While fair-minded people can agree that gays or people with gender confusion should not be discriminated against, the general public doesn’t appear to be ready to accept gender as simply a social construct or that people can be whatever gender they choose. These contentions, the conceptual foundation of transgenderism, fly in the face of reality: the biological difference between the sexes.

This Woman Should Be Trump's First Supreme Court Pick
[National Review] Diane Sykes has become a clarion voice for conservative jurisprudence.

For many conservatives, including myself, the decision to vote for Trump was not an easy one. But after a long, nightmarish primary, the calculation came down to a simple binary choice: vote for Trump to stop Hillary and save the courts or vote for Hillary (or a third-party candidate or write-in) and watch the erosion of our courts continue.

In a matter of hours, conservatives went from fretting over whether Senate Republicans should have relented and confirmed Judge Merrick Garland to dusting off Trump’s list of potential Supreme Court nominees. It’s important to note the commitment made by candidate Trump. Part of the deal for many conservatives was that, in exchange for their vote, there was an expectation of strict adherence to relevant commitments.

For those of us who see the future of the courts as crucial the preservation of liberty, Trump’s list must be followed in the spirit of Justice Scalia -- read within the four corners of the document.

Former Navy SEALs find beachhead in public office, expect reinforcements
[Wash Times] Navy SEALs, the most glorified warriors in the war on Islamic terrorists, are not a political force in America, but unprecedented victories in this year’s elections have put former frogmen on a political beachhead.

Fifteen years after the 9/11 terrorist attacks, the first wave of former SEAL politicians has arrived. Four secured significant elected offices on Nov. 8. Colleagues promise to use the new foothold to bring more into the arena.

"The teammates I know who are running for public office are fired up to make a difference in politics," said Brandon Webb, a former SEAL who runs the network Force12 Media and news website SOFREP.

The pathfinder is Rep. Ryan K. Zinke, a Montana Republican and former member of SEAL Team 6 who served in the state Senate. He won election to the U.S. House in 2014 and was re-elected easily last week.

Before Mr. Zinke’s 2014 victory, the last Navy special warfare veteran elected was Jesse Ventura in 1998 as Minnesota governor, and before that Bob Kerrey in 1989 as a U.S. senator from Nebraska, according to a review.

China's interference in Hong Kong reaching alarming levels: U.S. congressional panel
[Reuters] A U.S. congressional panel has warned of an "alarming" rise in China's interference in Hong Kong, noting fears over the former British colony's continued role as a global financial hub.

In its annual report to Congress on Wednesday, the bipartisan U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission highlights the "chilling" abduction and detention of five booksellers based in Hong Kong as well as pressure on media and academic freedoms.

Britain handed Hong Kong back to China in 1997 under a "one country, two systems" agreement that ensures its freedoms, independent legal system and wide-ranging autonomy remain intact.

The commission, in a detailed 33-page section, urges a fresh probe from the State Department into Hong Kong's autonomy and freedoms, as well as continued congressional oversight.

"Hong Kong's traditional standing as a global financial hub has significant economic implications for the United States, as U.S. trade and investment ties with Hong Kong are substantial," the report notes.

It says the booksellers' detentions - including two foreign nationals and one who was abducted inside Hong Kong - broadened domestic fears of mainland encroachment and sparked a record turnout in September's legislative election.

"This incident has threatened the maintenance of the 'one country, two systems' framework and led some observers to question Hong Kong's status as a leading global financial hub," the report warns.

The Left's Losing Its Mind Over Trump's Possible Cabinet Appointments Should Tell You Something
[Liberty Alliance] The media’s attempt to destroy the presidency of Donald J Trump before it even fairly begins is purring along nicely. Last week we were told Trump didn’t really expect to win and is unprepared to serve. And this week we have been treated to the hysteria over the leaks and announcements of who may or may not end up in the President Elect’s administration and cabinet.

First and foremost are the lies that Trump’s new strategy man is a "racist, Jew-hating, white supremacist."

When the President Elect announced that he had appointed current GOP Party Chair Reince Priebus as his chief of staff, most in the media gave a collective shrug. Priebus is a member of the GOP establishment, certainly, but Trump rewarded him with this appointment because Reince really took his career in his hands by backing Trump 100 percent during the campaign despite the loud voices of the Never Trumpers in his own party who wanted to put Hillary in the White House.

But it was Trump’s appointment of former Breitbart News chief Stephen K. Bannon to an important role as chief strategist that sent the media into a tizzy of lies, innuendo, and baseless accusations.

Ford Sees Sales Soar After Moving Production from Mexico to Ohio
BLUF: [LI] Perhaps sensing that the country may be heading in a new, anti-globalist direction, Ford shifted the production of a line of trucks from Mexico to Ohio in mid-2015!

Ford’s [F-650 and F-750 medium-duty commercial] trucks which used to be built in Mexico started rolling off an assembly line in Ohio this week.

That’s good news for the 1,000 Ford workers in Ohio, who might have otherwise been out of work.

It’s also good publicity for Ford (F), which has been under fire for investing so much in Mexico. In April, the automaker said it would invest $2.5 billion in transmission plants in the Mexican states of Chihuahua and Guanajuato, creating about 3,800 jobs there.

To say that their line subsequently had a successful sales year would be an understatement, as sales of medium-duty trucks soared :

Trump Adviser Flynn Recently Met With Operatives Linked To Turk Gov't Agents
[Daily Caller] Last month, Donald Trump’s top military adviser, retired Army Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, met with two Turkish community leaders in New York City who have close ties to Turkish government agents, The Daily Caller has found.

Flynn, who served as director of the Defense Intelligence Agency between 2012 and 2014, met on Oct. 10 with Ibrahim Kurtulus and Hilal Mutlu, two operatives who are prominent players in a shadowy network of Turkish organizations that support the agenda of Turkey’s president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Kurtulus and Mutlu, who is a cousin of Erdogan’s, are tied to groups that either receive funding from the Turkish government or have close connections to Erdogan and officials in his regime, a Daily Caller investigation reveals.

The revelation of the meeting comes on the heels of a report published by TheDC last week which found that a businessman who is the director of an economic board controlled by Turkey’s government recently used a Dutch shell company to hire Flynn’s consulting firm, Flynn Intel Group, to lobby Congress.

Three NBA Teams Boycott Trump Hotels
[Breitbart] The Milwaukee Bucks, Memphis Grizzlies, and Dallas Mavericks refuse to stay at any of the hotels owned or licensed by Donald J. Trump.

The boycott by the three NBA team’s sends a clear message that the franchise ownerships do not support the soon to be 45th president of the United States.

ESPN reports that Bucks co-owner Marc Lasry, whose daughter served on Rahm Emanuel’s congressional staff and son worked in the White House under Valerie Jarrett, and the Mavericks owner Mark Cuban both endorsed beleaguered Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton during the presidential campaign. Shark Tank creator Cuban said during the run-up to the election that there was "no bigger jagoff in the world" than Donald Trump and criticized the New York billionaire for failing to reveal his tax returns.

Trump Routed the Mainstream Media
Lacks URL -- original piece? A quick google of a random paragraph does not reveal a source.

Last week the entire world woke up to the rude shock that the United States had elected a newbie. The angered electorate had picked the unlikely candidate. The mainstream media and alternative media, whether print, online, TV, local and international were all awash with news, photos and videos of Hillary Clinton supporters weeping uncontrollably, while supporters of Donald Trump were seen mostly in an ecstatic state, relishing their victory. They could hardly be consoled. An "evil" appeared to have been done. A prank had just been played. It was a truly pathetic scene. The reason was obvious: there was a new sheriff in town, and it was none other than Donald J. Trump! The irony is that the overly partisan mainstream media was entirely to blame for this.

Trump, who had defeated all the Republican candidates to make it as the nominee of the Republican Party, was not going to give up so easily despite the damaging slander and calumny hauled at him by the hate-filled mainstream media. He had been accused of a plethora of things, including: racist comments, Islamophobia, offensive actions towards some women (which he denied over and over again), threat to deport illegal immigrants, threat to build a wall to restrict entry of Mexicans without proper documentation (to be funded by the Mexican government). Many of these accusations had no basis; they were simply manufactured by his opponents trying to destroy his chances of being elected. Yet Trump soared above the bad publicity targeted towards him.

Many had bet on Donald Trump losing the presidential election. The odds were against Donald Trump once he announced his intention to run for the White House in 2015. Several groups – including the Republican National Congress (RNC), the Democratic National Congress (DNC), and President Barack Obama – had completely dismissed the prospects of a Trump victory. In fact, it was so embarrassing to see several well known members of the Republican Party come out to castigate and disown him just hours before his penultimate presidential debate, yet Trump surged on, every new revelation of Clinton's corruption scandal seemed to prop Trump higher.

It became so obvious that all the major media houses had ganged up against Donald Trump. Several well-known dailies consistently published hate-filled articles and op-eds against him. Trump was never even given the chance to defend himself but Hillary Clinton always was. All sorts of spurious claims were brought against him. At some point he was accused of not publishing his tax returns, then he was falsely linked to financial deals with the current Ukrainian Junta, and was accused of being a lackey of Russia's Vladimir Putin.

One article published on September 14, 2016 that particularly exposed the double-dealings of the mainstream media was the beautiful piece written by Johannes Wahlstrom, an investigative journalist and filmmaker. The article was titled "An Obituary of The New York Times". In this article, Wahlstrom accused the New York Times of "Working with the government to suppress stories, covering up election fraud in the ruling party and ruthlessly campaigning against the main US opposition leader". He further noted that, "The New York Times has sentenced itself to wither away into irrelevance. Remembered only in history books as a relic of the Cold War, much like its sister newspaper Pravda of the Soviet Union. The New York Times R.I.P."

Wahlstrom's analysis was right. Many media agencies including CNN, BBC, Huffington Post, Washington Post to mention a few had particularly taken this ignominious route of defamation.

Another troubling fact was that people got to hear about the daily Wikileaks bombshell revelations of Clinton's DNC scandal from foreign media (Russia Today), alternate media and Trump's debates and speeches only. As far as the mainstream media was concerned these new scandalous revelations, which Trump used to his utmost advantage, were nonexistent. Things got so bad that the US Department of State even arm-twisted the Ecuadorian Embassy officials to temporarily unplug Julian Assange's internet connection, hoping it would serve to deter Wikileaks from further revelations. Fortunately, Assange had made alternative plans to keep publishing from a different location.

Then again, in October, CNN was nabbed allegedly rigging its own polls to claim Clinton won one of the debates. The Democrats had done this by oversampling. These fake polls contradicted by consensus that Trump won big at the same debate.

It's pitiful that the press had worked so hard to misinform their audience in a bid to defame Donald Trump. They became so obsessed and consumed with attacking him rather than reporting objectively about the growing numbers in support of Trump. Lately, The New York Times public editor has criticized the paper for Its "dishonesty". I expect other news houses that spent all their time confusing their readers to send apologies for this crime.

Trump's victory should be used as case study in many schools of political science across the world. It is truly amazing how he won with only about a tenth of Hillary Clinton's campaign donations. Trump has simply sailed to the Oval Office on the back of speaking out and not appealing to political correctness. He came through as a man who simply spoke the truth about what he saw rather than be blinkered. He called things by their names, addressed issues that were personally affecting a good deal of Americans, specifically the working class. The shameful mainstream media must learn from Donald Trump. His boldness in the face of these pathetic accusations won him the price. I hope CNN, New York Times, the Washington Post and the rest of the lying ‘presstitutes' learn from this fatal error.

"See what this virus has done to the State of Israel," he thundered. "Look how dangerous it is to our democracy and how we have to sacrifice lives for this nonsense," Herzog said.

India-Pakistan
Pakistan to Deport Teachers Linked to Turkish Coup Suspect
[AnNahar] Pakistain has ordered the deportation of 130 teachers affiliated with the alleged criminal mastermind of an attempted coup in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
, officials said Wednesday, as Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him...
was to arrive for a visit.

The teachers from the private PakTurk International Schools and Colleges, backed by U.S.-based Turkish preacher Fethullah Gulen
... a Turkish preacher living in Pennsylvania whom the current govt of Turkey considers responsible for all the ills afflicting Turkey and possibly the entire world...
's Hizmet group, will have to leave Pakistain along with other school staff and their families by November 20, school and government officials confirmed.

The decision -- hailed by Erdogan as "pleasing" -- affects up to 450 people in total and will be a blow to thousands of students in Pakistain, where government figures say a staggering 24 million children remain out of school.

The deportations "show how much importance Pakistain attaches to this effort", Erdogan told news hounds at the airport before departing for Islamabad Wednesday for a two-day visit.

He is scheduled to meet the country's top leadership, address a joint session of parliament and visit the cultural capital of Lahore.

Turkey accuses Gulen of ordering a failed coup in July, during which a rogue military faction tried to oust Erdogan from power. The country's justice minister has compared the holy man to slain al-Qaeda chief the late Osama bin Laden
... who used to be alive but now he's not...
Gulen strongly denies the accusations.

Ankara has called for the U.S. to extradite him and expressed impatience as American authorities study the evidence provided by Turkey before arriving at a decision.

In a statement posted on the official PakTurk International Schools and Colleges website, the administration expressed deep concern over the "abrupt decision."

The statement said requests to extend visas for the teachers, school management and their families had been denied.

"We want to ensure the students and their parents that educational activities at all branches of PakTurk educational institutions across Pakistain are continuously operational," the statement said.

A PakTurk official in Islamabad told AFP the decision would affect around 10,000 students in 28 schools and colleges around the country.

The school management have already been replaced by local staff, the official said, speaking anonymously.

A senior government official in Islamabad confirmed the deportation of Turkish staff by November 20.

Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim thanked "brotherly country Pakistain" for the decision.

Pakistain's foreign ministry said Erdogan will be accompanied by a high-level entourage, including ministers and bigwigs, as well as a large business delegation.

The Grand Turk
Turkey Seeks 30,000 New Soldiers after Post-Coup Purge
[AnNahar] The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
is seeking to recruit more than 30,000 new personnel to fill shortfalls after thousands were kicked out of the army in the wake of the failed July coup, state media reported Wednesday.

Tens of thousands of people have been either detained or sacked in the wake of the July 15 putsch blamed by the government on rogue elements in the army led by Moslem preacher Fethullah Gulen
... a Turkish preacher living in Pennsylvania whom the current govt of Turkey considers responsible for all the ills afflicting Turkey and possibly the entire world...
Around 9,300 army personnel have been placed in durance vile
Keep yer hands where we can see 'em, if yez please!
, including 118 generals and admirals, while thousands more have been discharged dishonourably or suspended.

But the dismissals came with the army facing challenges on all sides, fighting a conflict to destroy Kurdish faceless myrmidons in the southeast and also waging a cross-border operation inside Syria.

The state-run Anadolu news agency said the armed forces are aiming to recruit 30,159 personnel in order to meet needs in the aftermath of the post-coup dismissals.

This would include 1,322 officers, 3,547 non-commissoned officers, 7,159 trained soldiers, and 11,907 contracted soldiers, according to the news report.

The Turkish authorities have repeatedly insisted that the purge in the army after the coup has not affected its operations, pointing to the launch of the Syria incursion just over a month after the failed putsch.

But analysts have said that the effect on the military has been severe, with a shortage of pilots particularly acute.

Prime Minister Binali Yildirim said in an interview in August that Turkey was in need of military pilots and this is "not something that can be done in a day".

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Syrian warbirds hit Aleppo hospital
[ARA News] Aleppo – Syrian regime’s warplanes launched on Wednesday several airstrikes in Aleppo, targeting the rebel-held eastern part of the city.

Pro-regime forces hit the neighbourhoods of Shaar, Karam al-Bek and Sakhour in eastern Aleppo with barrel bombs and missiles.

A children’s hospital, blood bank and ambulances were main targets in Wednesday’s air raids.

“Pro-Assad air force bombed al-Bayan Children’s Hospital in Aleppo, causing dozens of casualties,” local media activist Ahmed Halwani told ARA News.

At least 26 civilians, including children, were killed in the airstrikes.

“Many others remained trapped under the rubble,” Halwani reported.

In the meantime, local rescue teams continued the search for survivors under the ruins of the destroyed buildings.

Airstrikes have resumed in Aleppo since Tuesday, after a Russian-sponsored three-week moratorium ended.

More from Arab News
BEIRUT/UNITED NATIONS: Air strikes hit near a children’s hospital and a school in rebel-held eastern Aleppo on Wednesday in the second day of renewed bombing that has killed at least 20 people, a war monitor, medics, and emergency workers said.

The fresh attacks came just hours after a United Nation human rights committee approved a resolution strongly condemning the recent escalation of attacks in Aleppo and continuing violence by the Syrian government against its own people.

The committee voted 116-15 with 49 abstentions in favor of the draft resolution on Tuesday. It is virtually certain to be adopted when the assembly votes next month.

The draft resolution demands that Syrian authorities “immediately put an end to all indiscriminate attacks, including those involving the use of terror tactics, air strikes, barrel and vacuum bombs, incendiary weapons, chemical weapons and heavy artillery.”

It “deplores and condemns in the strongest terms” widespread human rights violations by the Syrian government.

The draft calls for a cease-fire by all parties, saying this “is essential to achieve a political solution.”

Wednesday's air strikes are part of a wider escalation by the Syrian government and its allies including Russia, which launched coordinated missile strikes against rebels in Syria on Tuesday and for the first time used its only aircraft carrier.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a Britain-based war monitor, said the air strikes on eastern Aleppo had killed at least five children and an emergency worker. They were carried out by either Russian or Syrian jets, it said.

Russian denial
Moscow has denied reports that its jets hit the city in the renewed wave of bombardment. It says it is sticking to a moratorium on strikes in Aleppo.

The Observatory said districts struck included Shaar, Sukkari and Karam Al-Beik.

Tuesday’s bombing on eastern Aleppo appeared to mark the end of a pause inside the city declared by Russia on Oct. 18.

The Observatory and residents said the city’s east was hit by rocket strikes by jets, barrel bombs dropped from helicopters and artillery fired by government forces.

“The helicopters won’t stop for a single moment,” Bebars Mishal, a Civil Defense worker in rebel-held Aleppo, told Reuters. “Right now, the bombing won’t let up.”

The Civil Defense is a volunteer rescue service that operates in rebel-held areas.

The bombing hit the surroundings of a children’s hospital in the Shaar neighborhood and of a school in the Salah Al-Din neighborhood, the Observatory said.

“We woke up to the bombing and until now, the warplanes and helicopters are running,” said Modar Shekho, a nurse in eastern Aleppo. “The Shaar neighborhood was burned down between yesterday and today.”

Ibrahim Abu Al-Laith, a Civil Defense official, said more than 40 air strikes had hit the Shaar area. “Today the bombardment is very, very fierce,” he said.

Just bombing terrorists

Syrian state television said on Tuesday the Damascus government’s air force took part in strikes against what it called terrorist strongholds in Aleppo’s Old City.

Russia said it had struck Daesh and former Nusra Front sites elsewhere in Syria, without mentioning Aleppo.

State-owned Ikhabariyah television reported large troop deployments along several main fronts in the Aleppo theater in preparation for a major ground offensive that it said was imminent and awaiting “zero hour” to begin.

Aleppo has become the major front in Syria’s 5-1/2-year war pitting President Bashar Assad, supported by Russia, Iran and Shiite militias, against mostly Sunni rebels including groups backed by Turkey, the United States and Gulf monarchies.

Aleppo has for years been divided between the government-held western sector and rebel-held east, which the Syrian army and its allies besieged during the summer. Its allied forces include Iran’s Revolutionary Guards, Lebanon’s Hezbollah and Iraqi Shiite militias.

More from Asharq Al-Awsat
The Syrian regime and Russia resumed military and air operations in the northern Syrian city of Aleppo yesterday, a month after they were suspended. While Moscow insisted that the large scale operation carried out by its forces “does not include Aleppo”, the director of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said that it is likely that Russia is participating in the strikes on the city and that its denial is an attempt to shirk responsibility in the event that many civilians are injured.

The director of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights Rami Abdul Rahman told Asharq Al-Awsat that 8 airstrikes were carried out all at once in the eastern neighbourhoods of Aleppo and said that “We know that the Syrian regime does not have the ability to do so”. He also pointed out that “the expansion of Moscow’s strikes to include the countrysides of Homs and Idlib aims to disperse fighters. Abdul Rahman added that “It cannot be said that the major battle for Aleppo that the regime and its allies promised has been launched, especially as question marks remain about their real ability to fight this battle due to the large number of civilians in the targeted neighbourhoods”.

Meanwhile, the military spokesman for the Fastaqim Kama Umirt group Ammar Saqqaar said that initial information indicates that the Syrian regime is mainly responsible for launching strikes on the eastern neighbourhoods of Aleppo which led to many people being wounded and killed. He also indicated in a statement that he made to Asharq Al-Awsat that they are using “missiles that do not aim at specific targets” and therefore the bombing is random. He continued by saying that the raids are not limited to the city but also extend to the countryside where three hospitals were targeted in 24 hours.

US House OKs bills to renew Iran sanctions
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The House on Tuesday overwhelmingly approved bipartisan bills to crack down on supporters of Syrian President Bashar Assad’s government and renew a decades-old Iran sanctions law.

Swift passage underscored broad support on Capitol Hill for punishing financial backers of the Syrian government and maintaining economic pressure on Tehran. Both bills had the firm backing of Rep. Ed Royce, R-Calif., chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee, and Rep. Eliot Engel of New York, the panel’s top Democrat.

The Senate must now act on the legislation before the bills can be sent to the president.

Lawmakers have accused the Assad government of war crimes as the number of people killed during the violence in Syria continues to mount. The war, now in its sixth year, has killed as many as half a million people, contributed to Europe’s worst refugee crisis since World War II and given ISIS room to grow into a global terror threat.

“What we have now is a grim lesson in human suffering,” Royce said. “We can see the ethnic cleansing going on. Even the United Nations calls this ‘crimes of historic proportions.’ Enough is enough.”

The Syria legislation targets key backers of Assad such as Russia and Iran, according to Royce, by requiring the president to sanction countries or companies that do business with or provide financing to the Syrian government or the Central Bank of Syria.

Anyone that provides aircraft to Syria’s commercial airlines, does business with the transportation and telecom sectors controlled by the Syrian government, or supports the country’s energy industry also would be subject to sanctions, according to the legislation.

“If you’re acting as a lifeline to the Assad regime, you risk getting caught up in the net of our sanctions,” Engel said.

Sanctions could be suspended if internationally recognized negotiations to resolve the war in Syria are making progress and the violence against civilians has ended, according the legislation.

The White House and State Department had previously argued to Congress that new sanctions legislation could undermine efforts with Russia to forge a cease-fire between Assad and rebel groups. While the Russia talks have collapsed, the administration maintained concerns that the sanctions might hurt Iran, another Assad supporter, giving Tehran an excuse to renege on the US-brokered nuclear deal.

The House bill would authorize the State Department to assist in the collection and preservation of evidence for war crimes trials. Secretary of State John Kerry last month called for a war crimes investigation of Russia and Syria, a move that escalated already heated rhetoric against Moscow for its part in a deadly military offensive in Aleppo, Syria’s largest city, and its longstanding support of Assad.

forces of Evil have completely regained control of Tiyeglow, which lies west of Bakool region, after pushing Somali National Army and South West state forces out of the town.

A bomber rammed his explosives-laden car at military barracks at the entrance of Tiyeglow, before heavily armed fighters fought their way inside the town and engaged deadly gunfire with the army.

The allied troops were forced to withdraw from the city after they were overpowered in the battle, according to military sources. There have been sporadic festivities outside the town throughout the night.

McConnell is widely popular among his GOP colleagues and his selection was never in doubt. -Lurid Crime Tales-
Emails: Clinton Donor Claimed To Be In Cahoots With Head Of Conservative Think Tank
[DAILYCALLER] Arthur Brooks, president of the conservative nonprofit American Enterprise Institute, helped billionaire Clinton donor Lynn Forester de Rothschild secure the support of Republicans for Hillary Clinton
... former first lady, former secretary of state, former presidential candidate, sometimes described by her supporters as the smartest woman in the world, usually described by the rest of us as a crook...
, Rothschild claimed in an email to John Podesta exclusively reviewed by The Daily Caller.

An AEI spokesperson confirmed that Rothschild and Brooks know each other but strongly denied
No, no! Certainly not!
that Brook helped or was in contact with the Clinton campaign in any way, claiming Rothschild misunderstood Brooks’ words.

On June 28, almost two months after Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
had clinched the Republican nomination, Rothschild forwarded an email chain between herself and Brooks to Clinton campaign manager John Podesta and former Walmart executive Leslie Dach. As noted by Politico, Dach was in charge of bringing disaffected Republicans into the Clinton camp.

Rothschild told Podesta and Dach that Brooks was "helping me with many Republicans." The email chain between Rothschild and Brooks shows Rothschild pushing Brooks over how best to "engage you with Hillary" and Brooks replying that he would be "delighted to talk with Hillary or her campaign people."

Casualties continue to rise in battle for Sirte
Can't quite close the deal in Sirte
Despite repeated claims by the Bunyan Marsous Operations Room spearheading the fight against the so-called Islamic state (IS) in Sirte that the militants’ last bastion in the town is about to fall, the fight to destroy them once and for all continues to rage and be bloody.

According to Misrata Central Hospital, one BM soldier from Kikla was killed in clashes today and 16, all but one from Misrata, wounded. Yesterday, three soldiers were reported killed and eight wounded.

With more than 650 of its troops now killed since the battle for Sirte began, the operations room has largely ceased publishing casualty reports. However, a spokesman was quoted today saying that in fact two of its soldiers died, although he put the number of injured at ten. He also said that the BM forces were advancing on more than one front against IS in the Giza district and that yet a new massive military operation to finally destroy it was about to be launched.

Earlier in the day, an operations room official also claimed that IS had set fire to a number of houses in the town’s Giza district, said to be its last holdout, and were holding a number of families as human shields.

Part of the BM’s problem is the warren of underground tunnels which permit BM snipers to move from one location to another with deadly effect.

Despite that, Dorrian said the Turkish advance appears to be going well. "They've not yet moved into al Bab and taken the city, but they are very, very close, encountering some pretty tough resistance," he noted. "They do expect to be able to power through that."

India-Pakistan
11 Indian soldiers die in artillery attack
Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif on Wednesday said 11 Indian soldiers were killed on November 14 after Pakistan Army ‘responded to unprovoked firing’.

The Pakistan Army suffered the loss of seven soldiers on the day, all casualties were sustained in the Bhimber sector of the Line of Control (LoC).

“The Indian army should man up and accept their losses,” said the chief of army staff.

He also said that unlike the Indian army, the Pakistan Army accepts and owns its casualties.

General Raheel added that the army should be credited with exemplary teamwork.

“The army has given outstanding results while defending the homeland,” added General Raheel Sharif.

He also said a message has been conveyed to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi that aggressive actions will not bear any results.

Cross-border firing a new normal
Cross-border firing appears to have become a routine as tensions simmer between Pakistan and India following an alleged 'surgical strike', unrest in Kashmir and the Uri army base attack.

The Indian deputy high commissioner has been summoned to the Foreign Office several times in protest against 'unprovoked' Indian fire and loss of lives due to incidents of cross-border firing.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi stepped up a drive to isolate Pakistan diplomatically after the Uri army base attack last month. Hours after the attack occurred, Indian Home Minister Rajnath Singh termed Pakistan a 'terrorist state' and accused Pakistan of involvement.

The Uri attack occurred days before Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was set to address the United Nations General Assembly regarding Indian human rights violations in held Kashmir.

Following the attack, India claimed it had conducted a cross-border 'surgical strike' against 'launch pads of terror' in Azad Jammu and Kashmir — a claim Pakistan has strongly rejected.

Pakistan maintains that India is attempting to divert the world's attention away from atrocities committed by government forces in India-held Kashmir.

Pakistan and India have, most recently, locked horns over Kashmir since Indian forces stepped up a crackdown against protesters after Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani was killed by government forces in July.

Afghan police seize car bomb prepared for an attack by militants
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The Afghan National Police (ANP) forces seized a Vehicle-borne Improvised Explosive Device (VBIED) prepared for an attack.

The Ministry of Interior (MoI) said the boom-mobile was seized during an operation in central Maidan Wardak province.

"Yesterday morning, Afghan National Police (Crisis Response Unit) launched a special operation in Chaghato district of Maidan Wardak province," MoI said in a statement.

The statement further added "As a result, Afghan National Police (CRU) has seized a vehicle packed with explosive."

"Discoveries like this demonstrate the ever-increasing capability of Afghan National Security Forces to protect the civilians from indiscriminate IED attacks," MoI added.

The anti-government armed murderous Moslem groups including the Taliban faceless myrmidons have not commented regarding the report so far.

This comes as the Taliban-led insurgency has been rampant during the recent months across the country, including capital Kabul
...the capital of Afghanistan. Home to continuous fighting from 1992 to 1996 between the forces of would-be strongman and Pak ISI/Jamaat-e-Islami sock puppet Gulbuddin Hekmayar and the Northern Alliance, a period which won Hek the title Most Evil Man in the World and didn't do much for the reputations of the Northern Alliance guys either....
The Taliban faceless myrmidons frequently use Improvised Explosive Device (IED) as the weapon of their choice to target the security forces and Afghan government officials.

Newt Gingrich: Seven questions for the New York Times
[FOXNEWS] On Sunday, the publisher and the executive editor of the New York Times published a letter to the paper’s readers, promising to “rededicate” the paper to its “fundamental mission”. That mission, they said, is to “report America and the world honestly, without fear or favor, striving always to understand and reflect all political perspectives and life experiences in the stories that we bring to you.”

This is as close as the Times is likely to come to apologizing to its readers for a year and a half of unbalanced--and often unhinged--coverage of the presidential race.

I grew up in an era when the New York Times was the greatest newspaper in the world. Throughout my political career, there were plenty of moments when I thought the paper’s coverage had an unfair slant. But I knew it remained America’s most revered newspaper, and that generally its reporters held themselves to the highest standards.
Newt -- and lotsa other people -- are misinterpreting what the Times said. They fudged it up during the election, so now they're going to “report America and the world honestly, without fear or favor, striving always to understand and reflect all political perspectives and life experiences in the stories that we bring to you.” That means they're going to investigate the hell out of the Trump administration and all its members and bring TRVTH™ to the benighted so they'll vote correctly next time.

China-Japan-Koreas
North Korea Begs China to Stop Calling Kim Jong-un Fat
[FREEBEACON] North Korean ministers have made a state request to officials in China begging them to stop referring to their "glorious leader" Kim Pudge Jong-un
...the overweight, pouty-looking hereditary potentate of North Korea. Pudge appears to believe in his own divinity, but has yet to produce any loaves and fishes, so his subjects remain malnourished...
as fat, according to the Sun.

The officials in the North Korean government reportedly asked China to stop referring to their overweight leader as Jin San Pang, or "Kim Fatty III," in media or conversations.

Other nicknames used by China’s media for the "glorious leader" include Jin Pang Pang (Kim Fat Fatty) and Jin San Fei (Kim Abundant III).

The Apple Daily, a Hong Kong-based tabloid-style newspaper, has reported that officials in Pyongyang have pressed old friends for quick action. North Korean ministers fear heads will roll if Kim Fatty III finds out about his unflattering nicknames.

It has been widely cited that the plump leader’s extravagant taste is largely to blame for his weight, gaining 88 pounds in his five years in power from feasting on Swiss cheese, whiskey, and scallops.

Houthi commander, officials die in Taiz fighting
Taiz- Fierce clashes renewed between Yemen’s national army backed by the popular resistance and coup militias across Taiz. Iran-aligned Houthi militiamen and former president Ali Abdullah Saleh loyalists, forming coup forces fueling the nation’s civil war, have recorded grave losses as army forces advanced.

Houthi field commander known as Abu Bassam was reportedly killed in the clashes.

The onslaught has cost coup forces loss in artillery and personnel.

Army troops backed by allied tribesmen launched a major push to dislodge militias from strategic locations on the eastern side of the city, so as to lessen their siege that suffocates the it.

Battles escalated across the eastern axis of Taiz, by the time army forces –the 22nd brigade – made a swift and steady advance. Backed by the popular resistance, army forces were able to clear several strategic locations.

Field sources told Asharq Al-Awsat that a number of areas have been liberated– in addition to the extensive combing through Mukalla and the Saleh district that overlooks the presidential palace and other important locations on the eastern edges of the city.

Military sources revealed that battles extended across vast fields, as army forces retook militia-held locations.

Tuesday’s offensive is part of a larger military operation aimed at pushing the rebel forces out of the country’s third largest city and putting an end to the miserable humanitarian crisis caused by the Houthi-laid siege and shelling.

The large operation was launched in August when the latest round of peace talks ended without reaching an agreement.

The government forces liberated the western side of the city and announced partially breaking the Houthi imposed siege.

Colonel Mansour Al Hassani, a spokesperson for the Supreme Military Council in Taiz, said that his forces dislodged Houthi gunmen from some regions in the early hours of the offensive and are pushing to completely liberate other remaining areas in the coming days. “We have taken control of Saleh district that overlooks the presidential palace and other important locations on the eastern edges of the city,” he said.

Al Hassani said the second phase of the operation began on Tuesday and will focus on expelling Houthis from the eastern side of the city where key government institutions like the presidential palace, college of medicine and Imam palace are based.

“Our target is controlling the east side and cutting off Al Houthis’ supply lines from Sana’a that come through Al Houban district,” he said.

Bomb detonates in Benghazi military funeral
Benghazi, 15 November 2016:

A military funeral was car-bombed today in Benghazi killing a soldier and injuring at least 14 other mourners.

The cortege of one of the ten troops killed yesterday in the Ganfouda assault was on its way to the Kuwaifiyah cemetery in north-east Benghazi when a vehicle parked outside a park at Budezirah blew up. The solider killed in this blast, who has not been named, was a colonel from the same unit as yesterday’s victim. Two of those injured today are reportedly in a serious condition in Jalaa hospital.

It is unclear if the explosives in the car were detonated remotely or if a suicide bomber was inside it. Either way, this was a demonstration of the terrorists’ ability to strike outside of the Ganfouda, Sabri and Suq Al-Hud areas where they are now supposedly confined.

The attack is reminiscent of others when Benghazi was sinking into a chaos of killings in 2013. The very first funeral bombing that year was of mourners leaving the Hawari cemetery after the burial of Kamal Bazaza, an intelligence officer who had been blown up in his car earlier in the day. That attack left one man dead and six injured.

It has not been possible to confirm a report that a second car bomb was discovered today elsewhere in Benghazi and made safe.

Russia quits International Criminal Court
[CNN] Russia says it will withdraw from the International Criminal Court (ICC) under a directive signed by President Vladimir Putin
...Second and fourth President and sixth of the Russian Federation and the first to remain sober. Putin is credited with bringing political stability and re-establishing something like the rule of law, which occasionally results in somebody dropping dead from polonium poisoning. Under Putin, a new group of business magnates controlling significant swathes of Russia's economy has emerged, all of whom have close personal ties to Putin. The old bunch, without close personal ties to Putin, are in jail or in exile or dead...
.

The Russian Foreign Ministry said the ICC had "failed to meet the expectations to become a truly independent, authoritative international tribunal," in a statement released Wednesday.

It described the ICC as "ineffective," adding that "during the 14 years of the court's work it passed only four sentences having spent over a billion dollars."

Russia also criticized the court's handling of the country's five-day conflict with neighboring Georgia in 2008, saying "we can hardly trust the ICC in such a situation."

ICC front man Fadi El Abdallah said in a statement that "membership of the Rome Statute is a voluntary and sovereign decision which is the prerogative of all states," adding "the ICC is respectful of each states' illusory sovereignty."

Hamas threatens Tel Aviv
[ISRAELNATIONALNEWS] The Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, terror group is continuing its military build-up, a bigwig in the organization claims, and now possesses a large stockpile of powerful, long-range missiles capable of wreaking havoc across large swaths of Israel.

Speaking at a memorial service marking the fourth anniversary of the assassination'>assassination of al-Qassam commander Ahmed Jabri, Mushir al-Masri, a Hamas official and spokesperson for the group, declared that the terror organization possed "hundreds and even thousands of missiles that can blow up Tel Aviv and even [targets] beyond it."

Al-Masri also touched upon the two fallen Israeli soldiers, Hadar Goldin and Oron Shaul, whose bodies have been held by Hamas since 2014, saying that they would not be released, except as part of negotiated deal, on terms determined by Hamas.

The Hamas leader rejected what it claimed were efforts by Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu to extract information on the two fallen soldiers, and remained confident that a deal will ultimately be reached that is beneficial to the terrorist group.

20 troops die in Benghazi fighting
BENGHAZI: At least 20 members of the Libyan National Army (LNA) have been killed and 40 injured in two days of fighting in the eastern city of Benghazi, a hospital official said on Wednesday.

The clashes come as the LNA, a force loyal to the country’s eastern government, tries to extend its grip on the port city and dislodge the Islamist-dominated forces it has been battling for more than two years.

Led by Khalifa Haftar, the LNA has made major gains in Benghazi this year but still faces pockets of resistance. On Monday, it launched a fresh offensive in the Guwarsha and Ganfouda districts, carrying out air strikes and saying it had made some progress in ground fighting.

War planes could still be heard over Benghazi on Wednesday morning, and ambulances ferrying casualties raced through the streets. Roads were shut leading to western parts of the city where clashes were continuing.

At least seven militants were killed in Guwarsha on Wednesday, military spokesman Fadel Al-Hassi said. Earlier casualty figures for the LNA’s opponents were not available.

On Tuesday, a car bombing near a vegetable market at the eastern entrance to the city left 14 wounded, a second hospital official said.
Libya slid into political turmoil and conflict after long-time ruler Muammar Qaddafi was toppled in an uprising five years ago. In 2014, rival parliaments and governments were set up in Tripoli and eastern Libya, both backed by loose alliances of armed groups.

Haftar has become the dominant figure for factions based in eastern Libya. So far, they have opposed a government backed by the United Nations that arrived in Tripoli in March.

Afghan Special Forces rescue 36 from Taliban prison in Helmand
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The Special Forces Unit of the Afghan National Police (ANP) rescued at least 36 civilians from a prison run by the Taliban bully boyz in southern Helmand

province of Afghanistan.

The Ministry of Interior (MoI) said the operation was conducted late on Tuesday night in Greshk district of Helmand.

MoI further added that the Taliban bully boyz were torturing the civilians in the cell, including the children who were kept as captives.

According to MoI, the Taliban bully boyz managed to flee the area with the deployment of the Special Forces and no casualties were incurred to security personnel or civilians.

The Taliban bully boyz have not commented regarding the report so far.

Helmand is among the volatile provinces in southern Afghanistan where the Taliban bully boyz are openly operating in a number of its districts and frequently carry out insurgency activities.

The group has conducted numerous attacks including large scale attacks to take control of the key areas of Helmand, including the placid provincial capital of Lashkargah city.

However,
a hangover is the wrath of grapes...
the Afghan forces managed to repel the Taliban attacks, according to the security officials.

Europe
Germans Now Most Concerned About Immigration, Extremism
[BREITBART] A monthly tracker of public attitudes towards key issues shows Germany has now overtaken the United Kingdom as the most concerned nation in Europe on the subject of immigration, a significant development for a nation which has long prided itself on their openness to migrants colonists.

The research by Ipsos Public Affairs which took the views of thousands of people in 25 nations worldwide found a remarkable shift in opinion in Britannia following the Brexit vote, with concern over mass migration falling to the lowest levels since early 2015. The more than ten point drop, which left immigrations still the highest concern but only now slightly ahead of poverty, means Germany is now the most concerned nation on that point in the world.

The research has found a sustained relationship between immigration and fear of immigration, with nations experiencing very low rates of arrivals generally not expressing concern. Examples of this include Mexico, where just one per cent of residents are from abroad and less than one per cent of residents are worried about it, and Japan, China, India, Brazil, Peru, and Korea which experience similar levels.

On the other side of the scale are nations like Germany, where a grand total of 15 per cent of residents are immigrants colonists and 38 per cent express concern, and Sweden where 14 per cent are immigrants colonists and 36 per cent are worried.

Also high among German concerns is worries about crime and extremism. Thirty-five per cent of Germans told interviewers they were worried about terror, 28 per cent about extremism, and 36 per cent about crime and violence.

After poverty and immigration, crime was the third most important concern for Germans in the month of October.

...formally Jabhat an-Nusrah li-Ahli al-Sham (Support Front for the People of the Levant), also known as al-Qaeda in the Levant. They aim to establish a pan-Arab caliphate. Not the same one as the Islamic State, though .. ...
reflects Obama’s concern that it is turning parts of Syria into a new base of operations for al-Qaeda on Europe’s southern doorstep, the officials said.

The move underlines the extent to which Obama has come to prioritize the counterterrorism mission in Syria over efforts to pressure Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Before going into the family business Pencilneck was an eye doctor. If he'd stuck with it he'd have had a good practice by now...
to step aside, as al-Nusra is among the most effective forces battling the Syrian government.

Hezbollah has U.S. armored personnel carriers. But how did they get them?
From the Lebanese army, of course.
[WASHINGTONPOST] Over the weekend images surfaced online of a Hezbollah parade in Qusair, Syria, featuring U.S. armored personnel carriers affixed with antiaircraft guns. The images prompted a flurry of speculation about the vehicles’ origin and whether the group had pilfered the stocks of the U.S.-supplied Lebanese military.

The armored personnel carrier, known as the M113, is one of the United States’ most ubiquitous armored vehicles and has been in service since the 1960s. The tracked semi-rhombus-shaped vehicle comes in numerous variants and can be outfitted to carry troops and artillery; its chassis was even used as the basis for a nuclear-missile carrier. It has appeared in every major U.S. conflict since the Vietnam War and is used by U.S. police departments and dozens of others countries’ militaries around the world.

#4  The M113 is so numerous in the world, they could have almost bought them from a used car salesman.

Plus, they ain't that great. Protects against small arms and artillery splinters, but anything more than a 7.62 will go through the base models. Even the souped up armored ones have a hard time holding back an RPG.

At least they were better than those crappy flak jackets they gave us and you didn't have to dig a hole AND they had this big old M-2 on top that could rain on everyone's parade

Syrian, Russian jets pound rebel areas
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Air strikes pounded neighbourhoods around a children's hospital and a blood bank in rebel-held eastern Aleppo on Wednesday in a second day of renewed bombing that has killed at least 32 people, a war monitor, medics and emergency workers said.

"Russian military planes were seen all night until morning in several regions of Idlib" in northwestern Syria, said Rami Abdel Rahman, head of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

"The regime air force bombed eastern sectors of Aleppo," Syria’s divided second city, Abdel Rahman told AFP.

The air raids formed part of a wider military escalation by the Syrian government and allies including Russia, which fired coordinated volleys of missiles at rebels on Tuesday and for the first time used its only aircraft carrier.

The Syrian Observatory said the air strikes on eastern Aleppo on Wednesday alone killed at least 21 people, including five children and an emergency worker. They were carried out by either Russian or Syrian warplanes, it said.

The Observatory said districts struck included al-Shaar, al-Sukkari, al-Sakhour and Karam al-Beik.

Air raids also continued in the countryside west of Aleppo from which rebels have launched assaults on government-held areas. An attack on the village of Batbo killed at least 19 people including three children, the Observatory said.

Moscow has denied reports that its jets have hit Aleppo in the renewed wave of bombardment, and said it was sticking to a moratorium on air strikes in the city.

Tuesday's bombing run on eastern Aleppo appeared to mark the end of a pause inside the city declared by Russia on Oct. 18 which Syria's military had also largely observed.

The Observatory and residents said the city's east was hit by rocket fired from jets, barrel bombs dropped from helicopters and artillery from government forces.

"The helicopters won't stop for a single moment," Bebars Mishal, a civil defence worker in rebel-held Aleppo, told Rooters. "Right now, the bombing won't let up."

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu spoke of a "major operation" which saw the first missions carried out by warplanes taking off from the Admiral Kuznetsov aircraft carrier that arrived off Syria last week.

The Kremlin said on Wednesday that a moratorium on Russian air strikes against targets in Aleppo remained in place for the time being.

Africa Subsaharan
60 Per Cent of Boko Haram Not Nigerians - Army Chief
[All Africa] The Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai, on Wednesday said that judging by the current activities of the Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
terrorists, 60 per cent of them are not Nigerians.

Mr. Buratai, a lieutenant general, said this in Maiduguri when he received the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General, Mohammed Ibn Chambas, at the headquarters of the Theatre Command of Operation Lafiya Dole at the Maimalari Cantonment.

"Your Excellency, I want to bring to your attention that while the Boko Haram (insurgency) can be said to have started in Nigeria, by and large as at today, I can say that almost 60 per cent of the bully boyz are from our neighbouring countries.

"You can see that almost all of the recently surrendered bully boyz are not Nigerians.

"This is a challenge that impacts more on the Nigerian side than the other countries. But by and large, our military is up to the task and we will continue to do our best to ensure that our country is secured," Buratai said.

He said that there was no doubt that the gunnies had been defeated but added that troops would continue with their operations until the bully boyz finally surrender.

The army chief thanked the UN for identifying with Nigeria in its efforts to rout-out the gunnies and solicited additional support from the world body.

Tim Kaine Cites Importance of Senate Democrats as Check on Trump
[ROLLCALL] Sen. Tim Kaine was back at the Capitol Tuesday with a raised profile, and reflective after his ill-fated vice presidential bid.
Hillary Clinton's Joe Biden taste-alike.
The Virginia Democrat said he would be focusing his energy on the same issues he had before, particularly military issues important to his home state and his work on the Foreign Relations Committee. He was fully aware that Senate Democrats may be spending a lot of time blockading the agenda of President-elect Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
"The role of the Democratic Senate minority is going to be very, very important. And so it’s nice to get back to work after a little bit of kvetching to my wife and her kvetching to me over the weekend," Kaine said.
"Because of the role of a Senate minority, you know, we have the ability to cast a very clear spotlight on things. We have the ability in some instances to slow things down that should have been slowed down and even the ability to stop things," Kaine told news hounds. "So, my motto coming back is advance everywhere we can and defend everywhere we must."

Kaine said he was not going to prejudge decisions made by Trump, but the designation of Breitbart News executive Stephen Bannon as a top adviser in the White House next year did raise alarm bells for him.

Africa Subsaharan
Senegal: Can Stop Child Begging, Trafficking by Islamic Teachers?
[All Africa] Tens of thousands of children in religious schools across Senegal
... a nation of about 14 million on the west coast of Africa bordering Mauretania to the north, Mali to the east, and a pair of Guineas to the south, one of them Bissau. It is 90 percent Mohammedan and has more than 80 political parties. Its primary purpose seems to be absorbing refugees...
are forced to beg in the streets to make money for their teachers, activists say

Dressed in ill-fitting football kits and covered in dust and dirt, dozens of young boys chatter, laugh and chase a ball as Maimouna Balde leafs through a list of names.

When a scuffle breaks out between two boys, Balde instantly steps between the former child beggars in the yard of the shelter for abandoned children in Senegal's capital, Dakar.

"It is tough here - many of the boys have been beaten by their teachers and forced to live on the streets," the head of the Ginddi centre told the Thomson Rooters Foundation, reading a file listing boys as young as five and notes on various abuses.

Many of these children, known as talibe, are sent by parents in Senegal or trafficked from neighbouring countries such as Guinea-Bissau to Islamic schools, called daaras, where they are expected to receive food, shelter and teachings from the Koran.

But tens of thousands of children in daaras across the West African nation are forced to beg in the streets to make money for their teachers, called marabouts, said rights groups such as Human Rights Watch
... During the fiscal year ended June 30, 2011, HRW received a pledge from the Foundation to Promote Open Society, of which George Soros is Chairman, for general support totaling $100,000,000. The grant is being paid in installments of $10,000,000 over ten years.Through June 30, 2013, HRW had received $30,000,000 towards the fulfillment of the pledge....
(HRW) and Anti-Slavery International (ASI).[nL8N15X4NN]

These influential Islamic figures, respected and even feared by communities and politicians, punish their pupils if they fail to bring in some 2,000 CFA francs ($3) per day, activists said.

Alongside a drive to take the talibe off the streets, the state is considering a law to regulate daaras - seeking to raise teaching standards and eliminate trafficking and forced begging.

Yet activists are concerned that the clout of marabouts may hold back efforts to protect children in the Koranic schools as Senegal wrestles with its identity amid a rising tide of Islamist militancy in the region.

Many people in the Moslem-majority but staunchly secular West African nation are asserting their cultural and religious identity over Western values in response to growing anti-Islam sentiment in Europe and elsewhere, said Sarah Mathewson of ASI.

"This extends to marabouts feeling excluded from Senegal's education system, which operates in French," she said. "They must be integrated and supported if things are to improve."

Afghanistan
3 women shot dead by gunmen in Herat city of Afghanistan
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] At least three women were rubbed out by unknown gunnies in Herat
...a venerable old Persian-speaking city in western Afghanistan, populated mostly by Tadjiks, which is why it's not as blood-soaked as areas controlled by Pashtuns...
city located in West of Afghanistan, local officials said Wednesday.

The incident took place late on Tuesday after the gunnies riding cycle of violence opened fire on the women.

Officials in provincial hospital confirmed that the dead bodies of the slain women were taken to the hospital.

Provincial governor’s front man Jilani Farhad confirmed the incident and said the main motive behind murder of the women has not been ascertained so far.

Farhad further added the gunnies managed to flee the area and a search operation is underway for their arrest.

This comes as numerous incidents involving murder of women have been reported during the recent months across the country.

At least four women were rubbed out by a relative in northern Balkh province of Afghanistan earlier this month while a young woman was set on fire by her husband in western Herat province of Afghanistan earlier last month.

Jim Webb: White Working People ‘Don’t Think Democrats Like Them’
[BREITBART] Tuesday on Fox News Channel’s "Tucker Carlson Tonight," former Sen. Jim Webb (D-VA) said part of the reason Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton
... former first lady, former secretary of state, former presidential candidate, sometimes described by her supporters as the smartest woman in the world, usually described by the rest of us as a crook...
lost is because white working people feel like they have become a "whipping post" for the Democratic Party’s "interest group politics," which has made them think Democrats don’t like them.
White people be like dat. Can't teach 'em nuffin'.
Webb said, "The base of the Democratic party used to be working people, regardless of race, ethnic, or ethnic identity, sexual orientation, et cetera. That was a Roosevelt agenda. That was the Truman agenda. Over time, and I think particularly over the last eight years, the Democratic Party has moved into interest group politics and in many cases white working people have become the whipping post, or were. I think what you saw in this election here is white working people in these rural areas seeing that someone actually was articulating the fact that they had become disenfranchised and they gravitated toward Trump in my view."
If you take from one to give to the other, the one gets the point in his pocketbook, even if the other sees his cumshaw diverted to campaign contributors.
He continued, "What I think has happened, I mention in there from the immigration act of 1965 forward, the ethnic and racial makeup of the country has dramatically changed, but the laws with respect to affirmative action and diversity have not.
1965 was, according to my possibly faulty calculations, 51 years ago. Precisely how long are our guiltless children and grandchildren supposed to live with affirmative action?
I mean, the laws were originally designed to help African-Americans move away from what they call the badges of slavery. It was the 13th amendment, a slavery amendment -- it expanded to the point where it’s anybody who doesn’t happen to be white was included in these diversity programs.
And many who are. As far as I can tell, white women are white.
And you see a natural reaction. You know, I mentioned Clay County, Kentucky, the poorest county in America, is 94% white, and wouldn’t if you were in that county with 40 percent poverty rate, wouldn’t you think this is reverse discrimination?"
But not only are they white, they're rural. They're ignorant hillbillies, who'll shoot you as soon as look at you.

Remember the movie "Matewan?" All the sympathetic Hollywood echo chamber characters are sittin' around the kitchen being diverse and drinking coffee.

Then the door opens and the Hillbilly steps in. If I remember correctly, he's got a beard and carrying his rifle. The room goes silent. Is he gonna kill them all on the spot?

Nope. He sez something stupidly banal like: "Thar be game in the hills. Take whut yew wants."

Then he leaves. Mass exhale.

It ain't a stereotype though. Dat's da way dem people is!

#2  There are only 2 constituencies that matter in a democracy. Those who pay the taxes, and those who receive the monies handed out by the government.

The so called Left Right divide is just a vestigial Marxist concept.

All Trump has to do is to reduce the money flows to those recipients and it automatically shrinks the constituency. Particularly government employees.

Trump protesters plan to build ‘tea party of the left’
A movement to be securely held together by diaper pins.
It sounds like they want ACORN or International ANSWER.
[POLITICO] The protests that have roiled American cities since Election Day aren’t going anywhere. But rather than Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
, the first political casualties they claim may be establishment Democrats.

Leaders of the groups organizing some of the first outbursts of direct action in response to Trump’s surprise election are making plans to take to the streets through January’s inauguration and beyond. In frantic behind-the-scenes phone calls, text messages and Slack chats, they’re also planning to channel the energy unleashed last week into electoral politics, starting with Democratic primaries, to build what one organizer called a "tea party of the left."

"Our big goal is to support primary challenges against those Democrats who negotiate with Donald Trump," said the organizer, Waleed Shahid, a veteran of Bernie Sanders
...The only openly Socialist member of the U.S. Senate. Sanders was Representative-for-Life from Vermont until moving to the Senate for the rest of his life in 2006, assuming the seat vacated by Jim Jeffords...
’ campaign who is working for a group called AllofUs, launched in September. The approach mimics that of the tea party, which has used bully boy primary bids to unsettle establishment Republicans and drive the Republican Party rightward.

#1  ACORN or Occupy Wall Street morphs into a Tea Party-like organization? It's never going to happen. The looney left is still going to be the looney left no matter what you call it. Acorn-like groups are fundamentally anti-American whereas the Tea Party represents a more moderate and main-stream America.

the Tea Party was polite and honest and was accused of all kinds of things by the left

ACORN and ANSWER are nasty and dishonest and are given 'tut tut' coverage by the media and praise by the left

also, Donald Trump, while being many things is not a Tea Party guy -- he wants a big infrastructure program run by govt., big govt trade policy -- all things the Tea Party was against -- I think Trump may have some taxation policies that the Tea Party would like but that's about all

Final 3 Minnesota men sentenced in Islamic State case
[Chicago Tribune] A Minnesota man described as a leader of a group of nine who plotted to travel to Syria to fight for the Islamic State

They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group was sentenced to 35 years in prison Wednesday by a federal judge who said he didn't believe the man's tearful apologies and words of contrition.

Two other members of what U.S. District Judge Michael Davis repeatedly called a "terrorist cell" -- Mohammed Farah and Abdirahman Daud, both 22 -- were sentenced earlier Wednesday to 30 years in prison apiece. But Guled Omar, 22, drew the longest sentence of the nine defendants who appeared before Davis this week.

"I understand the seriousness of what I've been convicted of, and I understand that I will not be able to go home anytime soon," Omar told the judge as he awaited his sentence, which ended up being less than the 40 years prosecutors sought. "I always had energy for justice as a young man but I lost my way."

Omar's statement sent his mother in the gallery into sobbing uncontrollably while other family members left the courtroom to collect their emotions. Davis didn't buy it.

"Everything you have said here, I don't believe," Davis said.

Prosecutor Andrew Winter said Omar's tears could not be trusted.

"Only when backed into a corner, does he attempt to offer false contrition. You can't fix manipulative. You can't fix deceitful. And you can't fix Guled Omar. He has blood on his hands," Winter said.

A jury convicted Omar, Farah and Daud in June of conspiring to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization and conspiracy to commit murder outside the U.S. Prosecutors said the plot involved of a group of friends in the state's large Somali community who inspired each other to join the bad boy group. Some of their friends made it to Syria, but the nine who were caught did not.

#1  there were 9 Jihadist who were sentenced

the first 3 were cooperating and provided the prosecution with evidence -- they got light sentences plus supervision

the next 3 didn't cooperate but pleaded guilty - they got up to 10 years in one case

the final 3 pleaded innocent and their supporters threatened the families of witnesses, disrupted the courtroom, etc. those were the ones discussed in the Chic Trib article

plot to carry out terror attacks in Kosovo and neighboring Albania, including an assault during a football match between Albania and Israel this past weekend.

Police said the arrests were made over the past 10 days and that the suspects had planned "synchronized terror attacks," without going into further detail.

"They were planning to commit terrorist attacks in Kosovo and also [an attack] against [the] Israeli football team and their fans during the Albania-Israel match," Kosovo police said in a statement on Wednesday, adding that weapons, explosives, ammunition and a drone were seized during the sweep.

The police said the suspects were communicating and receiving orders from an Islamic State member, Lavdrim Muhaxheri, the self-declared "commander of Albanians in Syria and Iraq."

Last week, a Kosovo court ordered seven of the suspects detained for a month while the investigation continued. The seven belonged to one network that notably planned to attack a stadium in the northern Albanian town of Shkodra during the country’s 2018 World Cup qualifier against Israel last Saturday, according to media reports.

Police said at the time that they were plotting "terrorist attacks" with their counterparts from Albania and Macedonia against the same targets in the two countries.

According to local media reports, the network in Kosovo consists of around 30 members and is a branch of a wider group in Albania and Macedonia, of which some remained on the lam.

The Israel-Albania match was held in the central town of Elbasan for amid tight security on Saturday. Israel won 3-0 and moved into third place with nine points in its soccer World Cup qualifying Group G.

Earlier last week, Israel said the Islamic State group had been planning attacks in the Balkans and specifically warned its citizens not to attend the match.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
Whites, You’re Part Of The Problem
A self loathing white man asks his readers to partake in his own personal misery.
You hear the term “Black Lives Matter,” and it pisses you off. You think, “What about me? Doesn’t my life matter? Why do we have to say that black lives in particular matter? Makes it sound like theirs matter and mine doesn’t.”
I never heard anyone say that outside the sound of loud laughter.
You see a company or university going out of their way to recruit non-anglo and female candidates, and you feel overlooked, slighted. “But I have the same qualifications as they do!” You say. “Isn’t giving them that access because of their gender or race just a reversal of the kind of discrimination we’re supposed to be getting away from?”

You hear black people using the “N-word” and are put off by the fact that they can say it, but for some reason, you’re not allowed to.
Allowed to? Why would I want to use a racial term?
You look for scholarships for your kid and realize they don’t meet the demographic requirements for many of them, despite-passing muster academically.
There are all sorts of specialty scholarships. One of my fosterlings got a full academic scholarship because she had good grades and is half Iranian. White people can qualify for all sorts of scholarships based on religion, sex, ethnic heritage, extra-curriculars, academic interests, or writing a good essay for the Kohls department store chain, just like people who are not white. The writer clearly didn't have to scramble for college money.
You shake your head at banks who offer special loans to women- and minority-owned businesses. Your mouth hangs open in disbelief that the month of February – the whole month! – is dedicated to the celebration of black history.

You feel increasingly invisible, inconsequential, like your
You mean you're. But do go on.
on the receiving end of the kind of denials and silencing you’ve been told is bad.

Welcome to your white fragility.

Then on top of it all, you find out there’s this new term that makes you sound brittle, weak, that suggests to you that you’re not allowed to have feelings about all of this. So “those people” can complain about being disenfranchised, but I cant say anything when I feel like I’m being labeled in a way thats judgmental of how I simply feel?
Wut?
You can feel however you want. That’s a fundamental human reality. You can rage, cry, gnash your teeth day and night about the shifting systems of power under your feet.
??
Just don’t expect anyone other than people who look and think exactly like you to feel sorry for you.
As a responsible individual, I don't expect anyone to "feel sorry" for me because my own demons are just that: mine.
Don’t like being called fragile? try being called “faggot” or “nigger” for a few years. Try being valued principally for how you look and for your sexual appeal before your intellect or other potential. Try turning on any sports channel and struggling to find anyone who looks like you playing, or opening your history book and feeling like you’re an outlier in a foreign territory.
"Those people" call each other by those names. As a personal matter, I don't. You don't get to play two sides of the same argument, no matter how badly you want to press this one.
Don’t like the sound of “black lives matter”? Try being systematically profiled, pulled out of your car or home, incarcerated and beaten because you fit a demographic that people in power believe inherently adds suspicion to anything you do.
I'll pass, thanyouverymuch. Besides, you're trying to make it sound as though people are being incarcerated for no reason. There's a reason, but using the printed word you want your readers to believe a Big Lie, the only one that can bolster this pathetic excuse for an opinion piece.
Try being denied heath car or access to a loved one in a hospital.
heath car??
The copy editor should be boiled in oil. Seeing so many errors in this text is physically painful.
Or being told you can’t speak or do any number of other jobs, simply because of the sexual organs you were born with.
Huh??
Try being told you’d be better suited to do pick up some sort of trade, rather than pursuing your dream of becoming a lawyer.
Yes, in a nation which has more lawyers than the rest of the planet combined, become a lawyer. Pursue those ambulances, I mean dreams.
Your world is changing, white people. And there will be times when you feel like you’re being treated unfairly. Sometimes, you’re right, too. I read a story about a white man involved in a car accident with a black woman in Chicago recently, who ended up being beaten by a group of nearby men for being “one of those white boy Trump supporters.” This is wrong, it should be called out as such, and the consequences should fit the crime.
How good of you to admit that that was a crime.
Yes, some of it may actually be a swing too far for a bit, but bear in mind that, aside from the immediate effects you may see, there are invisible (to you at least) systems at work that have held people back, telling them they can’t ensuring that cycles of suppression, oppression and marginalization perpetuate the myth that, somehow poverty and laziness are cousins, or the insane fallacy that you are a self-made man.

So go have your tantrum. Scream at the wall and shake your fists in the air. Then get on with your life. Be open to the possibility that your world has, in actuality, been revolving around you as the axis for a long, long time.
I know of no white person who believes that. I know a lot of kommies who do, however.
What’s more, the fact that this axis is shifting actually will be a good thing for all of us in the long term. It will be different. It may feel scary and uncertain. But just as black lives matter, so do black ideas, inventions, leadership and voices. Just as queer voices do, and women’s voices, those with different ability, identity and ethnicity.
If those ethnicities and social ideas matter in a technical setting, we are in deep, deep trouble.
If you let them, they might even make your life a little bit richer, opening up new opportunities and perspectives your anglo-centric imagination couldn’t grasp on its own.
Unlikely

(b) "Black" people did not achieve parity with "white" people. (Actually, they're worse off than they used to be)

Three possible explanations.
(1) The advantages given are actually counter-productive.

(3) White people, unconsciously, sabotage black people.

Canada Liberals restore funding to Palestinian aid agency with alleged ties to Hamas
[CALGARYSUN] The federal Liberals are providing $25 million to a UN relief agency for Paleostinian refugees that was cut off by the previous Conservative government for alleged ties to Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason,.

International Development Minister Marie-Claude Bibeau made the announcement at a news conference and also during question period in the House of Commons -- news that was greeted by cries of "shame" from the opposition benches.

The United Nations
...the Oyster Bay money pit...
Relief and Works Agency for Paleostine Refugees, also known as UNRWA, lost federal funding in 2010 amid allegations it was tied too closely to Hamas, considered a terrorist organization by Canada and others.

Bibeau says $20 million will go support education, health and social services for millions of vulnerable Paleostinian refugees, as well as urgent humanitarian assistance.

An additional $5 million is being provided in response to the agency’s appeal for help for those impacted by the crisis in Syria and its environs.

"I’m horrified," said Conservative foreign affairs critic Peter Kent, who said there is ample proof that "massive amounts" of UN aid have been redirected to support Paleostinian military efforts against Israel.

"We have abundant evidence that UNRWA is part of the problem."

The government says the money will be accompanied by "enhanced due diligence," including a "very robust oversight and reporting framework" that includes regular site visits and anti-terrorism provisions.

"Millions of Paleostinian refugees across the Middle East have the right to receive basic services such as health care and to send their children to school," Bibeau said in a statement.

"We want to see Paleostinian refugee children in classrooms where they can learn universal values of tolerance and respect. Vulnerable Paleostinians deserve all the opportunities they can to contribute positively to their communities and Canada’s funding will help to better the lives of millions of refugees."

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Iran's Top Leaders: Remain calm after Trump election
[AyPee] Iran's two top leaders -- its president and the country's supreme leader -- both sought Wednesday to calm concerns in Iran over the future of Tehran's nuclear deal with world powers in the wake of Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
's election for U.S. president

President Hassan Rouhani said the country will remain committed and loyal to the deal, regardless of the outcome of the U.S. election.

Trump's much publicized criticism of the nuclear deal and his campaign vows to renegotiate the terms and increase enforcement of the deal that put off the threat of Tehran developing atomic weapons has sent jitters across Iran.

Without mentioning Trump by name, Rouhani said that "the world is not under the will of a single individual and party. The reality of the world will impose many things on myrmidons."

"Nobody should imagine it is possible to play with Iran," he added.

The deal, which went into effect in January, forced Iran to pull back from the brink of nuclear weapons capacity in exchange for an end to many of the U.S. and European sanctions that crippled Iran's economy. It has been largely respected despite undiminished U.S.-Iranian tensions throughout the Middle East, including their support for rival sides in Syria and Yemen's civil wars.

Trump's exact plans on the nuclear deal are vague, but any renegotiation would be difficult -- Iran has no incentive to reopen talks over a deal it is satisfied with. And none of the other countries in the seven-nation accord has expressed interest in picking apart an understanding that took more than a decade of stop-and-go diplomacy and almost two full years of negotiations to complete.

Iran's supreme leader, who has final say on all state matters in Iran, said in remarks on state TV that Iran was indifferent to Trump's election victory.

Iran and the U.S. have had no diplomatic relations since 1979.

fighters from an air base west of djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
, a victory which would threaten the Sunni group's supply route from Syria to its last major stronghold in Iraq.

"The airport of Tal Afar has been liberated," Yusif al-Kallabi, a front man for Popular Mobilisation, a coalition of mainly Iranian-backed militias, told Iraqi state TV.

The capture of the base, if confirmed, could be a significant development in the campaign to recapture Mosul, Islamic State's de facto capital since its forces swept through Iraq in 2014 and set up a self-declared caliphate in a swathe of Syria and northern Iraq.

Tal Afar lies about 60 km (38 miles) west of Mosul on the main road to Syria. Its seizure could also alarm The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
, which is wary of Iraqi Shi'ite involvement in the civil war in Syria.

"Tal Afar will be the starting block for the liberation of all the area...to the Syrian border and beyond the Syria border," said Hadi al-Amiri, head of Badr Organization, Popular Mobilisation's largest component, in a video clip.

While the Shi'ite coalition is fighting Islamic State west of Mosul, regular army and police units are trying to advance from the other sides, backed by Kurdish Peshmerga fighters deployed in the north and the east.

Iraqi counter-terrorism forces breached Islamic State defenses in east Mosul two weeks ago but have faced resistance from the myrmidons, who have fought back with suicide boom-mobiles, snipers and waves of counter-attacks.

British Woman ‘Gang Raped’ in Dubai Facing Jail for Extra-Marital Sex
[BREITBART] A British tourist allegedly raped by two men in Dubai is facing jail after authorities accused her sex outside of marriage.

The 25-year-old woman told police she was attacked by the men while she was on holiday in the United Arab Emirates in October, but officers charged her with extra-marital sex.

She is currently on bail and not allowed the leave the Middle Eastern country, however the two men involved ‐ who are also British ‐ have allowed to return home to Birmingham.

The woman now needs £24,000 for legal fees and could face a long period in jail for breaking the country’s strict laws against sex outside of marriage.

The two alleged attackers even filmed themselves raping her, the victim’s family have claimed, but were still allowed to travel back to Britannia just hours later.

A family friend told The Sun: "They have taken her passport as lawyers thrash it out. She is staying with an English family but she is absolutely terrified.

"She went to the police as the victim of one of the worst ordeals imaginable but she is being treated as the criminal."

Tensions rise between civilians and local fighters in Aleppo
[al-Manar] Media reports have indicated that the tensions between the terrorists and the civilians in eastern Aleppo rose as scores of locals demonstrated against the militant groups to demand that they distribute the foodstuffs distributed by the government and confiscated by the takfiri gunmen.

The reports added that the terrorist groups deploy their members in the eastern neighborhood of the city in order to prevent the civilians from escaping towards the west of Aleppo.

Tunisia detains 4 in terror plot
[al-Manar] Tunisian police have arrested four suspected terrorists accused of plotting to carry out attacks in the capital and to assassinate prominent politicians and journalists, an interior ministry spokesman said Wednesday.

The group, composed of three men and a girl, “was planning attacks against a commercial center and a post of the National Guard (police) in Tunis”, ministry spokesman Yasser Mesbah told AFP.

The police arrested the four in the capital’s southern suburb of Ben Arous, Mesbah said, adding they had been communicating on Facebook.

Security sources said on Monday they had found five arms caches in the south of the country near the border with war-ravaged Libya and seized large quantities of weapons.

Tunisia has been under a state of emergency for almost a year following a string of deadly attacks in 2015, claimed by groups affiliated with the ISIL group and Al-Qaeda in the “Islamic” Maghreb.

Mosul Offensive News
Militia leader sez Mosul siege to take a while

(IraqiNews.com) Baghdad – The ongoing battle seeking to liberate the city of Mosul from Islamic State militants could last for several months, speaker of al-Hashed al-Shaabi paramilitary forces said Tuesday as operations to recapture the city complete one month.

Ahmed al-Asadi told non14.net news website that “the closer the troops become to their strategic targets, the slower the operations will be.” He reiterated that operations will take “months rather than weeks”, attributing his speculation to the fact that “Mosul is home for more than 1.25 million civilians,” explaining that al-Hashed al-Shaabi’s top concern is to ensure the safety for civilians during battles.

“The closer we get to our strategic targets, the enemies change their resistance tactics by resorting to street battles, making use of buildings. We expect operations to maintain the current pace which has lasted for more than ten days.”

Also on Tuesday, al-Hashed al-Shaabi media body said the forces had liberated four villages on the western axis of Mosul, becoming 18 kilometers away from the airport of the strategic town of Tal Afar.

“Should al-Hashed forces take control of Tal Afar airport, that would be a prelude to the liberation of the whole town and the obstruction of a main ISIS supply line to Mosul,” read the statement.

The imminent advance to Tal Afar has been contentious over the past weeks, with Turkey voicing fears of possible human rights violations by the mostly-Shia al-Hashed al-Shaabi against the Sunni Turkmen residents of the town.

Asadi, however, said the militia would handle the town “accurately and sensitively” due to it’s complicated status. He accused Turkey of seeking “a pretext to intervene in Iraqi affairs,” accusing Turkey and Saudi Arabia of providing logistic and weaponry support for the extremist group.

“At every battle, we see new weapons for ISIS entering Iraq through the Turkish borders with Saudi finance. They have killed us with their money for years,” Asadi stated.

Iraqi forces capture Tal Akoub

(IraqiNews.com) Baghdad – Iraqi joint forces recaptured on Wednesday the village of Tal Akoub, north of al-Zab, Mosul, from Islamic State militants, commander of the operations said, while ISIS shelled an already liberated village.

Lieutenant General Abdul Amir Yarallah, commander of operation “We Are Coming, Nineveh,” said the 9th armoured division liberated the village and raised the Iraqi flag above its buildings.

Meanwhile, Rudaw news network said several casualties fell Wednesday as ISIS shelled al-Zahraa village with mortar bombs. Al-Zahraa was recaptured by Iraqi forces last week.

Its reporter quoted a young man as saying that a lady and her four kids were killed in the bombardment. The did not set a definite count of deaths, but said that casualties were taken to hospitals by military vehicles.

Iraqi forces, assisted by US-led air forces and popular militias, have entered a month of battles to liberate Mosul from ISIS militants who had proclaimed the city as the capital of their “Islamic Caliphate” before surrendering to consecutive victories by the Iraqi forces and losing much ground.

Last week, the US-led coalition said 1363 ISIS militants were killed since the start of battles for Mosul. On Tuesday, the joint forces said in a press conference Iraqi and international forces had killed more than 1300 militants on the southern axis of Mosul operations.

Iraqi forces capture Tal Afar airport

(IraqiNews.com) Nineveh – Al-Hashed al-Shaabi militias said Wednesday they have militarily recaptured the Tal Afar airport, a major operational step towards the center of Mosul.

The militia said in a statement that it liberated the village of Tal al-Romh, 2 kilometers from the airport, from Islamic State militants, putting the airport within their “firing range”. It also captured the village of Tal al-Souban, east of the airport.

“al-Hashed al-Shaabi’s intelligence had detected calls by ISIS to their fighters to withdraw from Tal al-Romh to Tal Khedr Elias,” the militia’s media body said.

On Tuesday, al-Hashed al-Shaabi media body said the forces had liberated four villages on the western axis of Mosul, becoming 18 kilometers away from the airport of the strategic town of Tal Afar.

“Should al-Hashed forces take control of Tal Afar airport, that would be a prelude to the liberation of the whole town and the obstruction of a main ISIS supply line to Mosul,” read the statement.

The imminent advance to Tal Afar has been contentious over the past weeks, with Turkey voicing fears of human rights violations by the mostly-Shia al-Hashed al-Shaabi against the Sunni Turkmen residents of the town.

Iraqi commander claims to be 4 Km from Mosul

(IraqiNews.com) Nineveh – Commander of the Iraqi Anti-Terrorism forces, Major General Abdel Wahab al-Saadi announced on Wednesday, that his forces is controlling Hayy al-Bakr area, one of the most important ISIS strongholds east of Mosul, and emphasized that these forces are only 4 kilometers away from the center of the city.

Saadi also pointed out to the killing of tens of ISIS militants in the outskirt of the neighborhood, and revealed that the international coalition air force conducted four extensive airstrikes to destroy heavy weapons and booby-trapped vehicles belonging to the extremist group in the area.

Meanwhile, forces from the army’s 9th Armored Brigade advanced toward the southeast of Mosul, and reached Hayy al-Salam, and will continue advancing toward the 4th bridge on the west coast.

Also, Federal Police forces, backed by Nineveh Operations forces are advancing in the battles against the ISIS militants, south of Mosul, who withdrew from the areas of Hayy Albu Saif and al-Ghazlani near the southern entrance of the city.

The Beatings Will Continue: Iraqi Edition

ISIS executes 25 in Mosul

(IraqiNews.com) Baghdad – Islamic State militants have executed 25 civilians over accusations of spying for Iraqi security services, the Iraqi High Commission for Human Rights said Wednesday.

The victims were brought from different regions of Nineveh, according to the commission’s media director, Jawad al-Shamari.

“The group maintains the dead bodies of those executed at the forensic medicine facility, and refuses to hand them over to their relatives, arguing that they were infidels and should not be buried,” Shamari said, quoting sources inside the city.

“Those sources have also confirmed that ISIS had captured 2000 citizens and drove them to Tal Afar to use them as human shields, also accusing them of treason and several other accusations,” he added.

“The group arrests citizens who are found to possess cellphones, computers and other communication tools and executes them,” said al-Shamari.

Iraqi government forces and its allied paramilitaries have entered a month of operations to retake Mosul, ISIS’s last bastion in the country.

On Tuesday, Brig.Gen. Nibras al-Makkoki, a spokesperson for the defense ministry’s Joint Forces Command, said ISIS had been amassing families from several neighborhoods in western Mosul inside schools, vowing to kill violators. “The group is trying to use civilians as human shields…and booby-trapped several houses and civilian vehicles.”

As for the humanitarian situation, Makkoki said, quoting his sources in Mosul, that electricity had been cut from most of the city for two days, with water and medical supplies short of demand.

5K civilians caught between ISIS and Iraqi militia forces

(IraqiNews.com) Nineveh – Mayor of al-Hadr district (located to the west of Mosul), Ali al-Ahmadi, declared that more than five thousand civilians are besieged in the district and areas of Tel Abta, by members of the Islamic State and al-Hashd al-Shaabi militia.

The Mayor said in a press statement that the district is suffering from lack of food, water and health care for more than a month.

Ahmadi also appealed to officials to rescue the people of al-Hadr district and Tel Abta, after the emergence of epidemic diseases among children such as skin rush and poisoning, due to the usage of polluted water of artesian wells, which is the only water source in the area.

Meanwhile, al-Hashd al-Shaabi shia militia announced isolating the district of al-Hadr and Tel Abta area from Mosul without storming into it, within a phase they call the third phase that aims to reach and liberate Tel Afar district, west of Mosul.

ISIS executes dozens in Mosul for spying

[ARA News] Zakho – The radical group of Islamic State (ISIS) has executed dozens of civilians in Mosul City of Iraq’s northwestern Nineveh Governorate on charges of spying for “enemy forces”, activists and eyewitnesses reported on Thursday.

ISIS extremists on Thursday executed at least 32 civilians, mostly young men, in the city of Mosul, after accusing them of spying for the Iraqi Army and the Kurdish Peshmerga forces.

This comes amid intensifying military operations by the Peshmerga and the Iraqi forces against the ISIS main Iraqi bastion of Mosul, where the group has lost key areas to the US-backed Kurdish and Iraqi troops in the past three weeks.

Local sources told ARA News that the ISIS-led Islamic Police, also known as Diwan al-Hisba, arrested more than 40 people earlier on Wednesday.

“At least 32 arrestees were executed on Thursday by fighting squad after ISIS accused them of leaking information about the group’s deployments in Mosul city,” head of Nineveh Media Centre Raafat al-Zarari told ARA News.

The pro-ISIS Sharia Court of Mosul said in a statement that the suspects had communicated with ‘enemy forces’, in reference to the Kurdish Peshmerga and the Iraqi government forces. The court determined that those communications represented the men’s conscious abandonment of Islam.

“The arrested men were charged with treason,” local media activist Abdullah al-Malla told ARA News. “They were publicly executed in central Mosul on Thursday.”

Muhammad Abd-Rabouh, a member of the Iraqi Parliament, said that the recent executions indicate a state of panic among ISIS ranks.

“As the Iraqi forces continue their progress towards the heart of Mosul city, ISIS tries to show the people that it’s still in control,” the Iraqi MP said. “Publicly executing innocent civilians in such a brutal way on charges of spying and treason is a clear indication to the group’s collapse inside Mosul.”

“Soon Mosul will be liberated, and the world won’t see such barbaric acts in this city anymore,” he said.

Kurds claim Bashiqa victory
[ARA News] Bashiqa – The Kurdish President Masoud Barzani on Wednesday announced the defeat of ISIS in a ceremony in the town of Bashiqa, which was recaptured by Kurdish Peshmerga forces last week. He also rebuked comments by US officials that the Peshmergas will withdraw to pre-ISIS borders.

“There will be no negotiations about territories liberated by Peshmerga before the Mosul offensive,” he said. “ISIS will continue to threaten the Kurdistan Region as long as they remain in Mosul. This is a new chapter. ISIS is on the path to defeat. Peshmerga shed blood to free Kurdistan’s land and end suffering of our people.”

“I know the heroes we’ve lost. I know their sacrifices. They protected a nation and our dignity. We have sacrificed more than 11,500 martyrs and wounded heroes in this fight. ISIS is on route to lasting defeat,” Barzani said. “We have lost brave heroes. We will never recover from the deep wounds. The world is proud of the Peshmerga – they embody heroism.”

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
95 ISIS Baddies now pining for the Fjords
[al-Manar] Clashes in north and western-north countryside of the Syrian province of Raqqah are still ongoing since operations by Democratic Syria forces were launched to isolate the city and expel the so-called ‘Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant’ (ISIL) terrorist group from the area, a monitor group said.

The UK-based opposition Syrian Observatory reported that ninty-five ISIL gunmen were killed or injured during the operations up till Tuesday evening, including 20 militants who were buried in a mass grave near Devision-17.

Recently, Kurdish websites have been talking about the full control of the DSF over the village of “Al-Towaila’ah” in Southeast of Ein-Issa town.

Kurkish media circulated that People’s Protection Units have been advancing to a distance of 6 km, starting from the Al-Hayesh village in Slook town in the north countryside of Raqqah after clashes with ISIL group.

This progress signifies that YPG forces are surrounding ISIL in the villages of Khnez and Theleth Khnez.

Trump Looking to Ease Restrictions in Fight Against Islamic State

The view, from longtime Washington veterans and from those close to members of the transition team, is one of an administration likely to place a premium on innovation and the selective but convincing use of force. And it will put America's interests above all else.

The approach, in some ways, is intended as a rebuke to the administration of President Barack Obama

"You're going to see a lot more resolve," said Tony Shaffer, a retired intelligence officer and vice president of Strategic Initiatives and Operations at the London Center for Policy Research.

Shaffer, who has worked with retired Lieutenant General Michael Flynn, a key Trump military adviser, believes that resolve will be most evident in the Trump administration's approach to counterterrorism, specifically in the fight against the Islamic State

Home Front: Politix
Voter fraud complaints emerge in tight NC gov race
[FOXNEWS] The campaign for North Carolina GOP Gov. Patrick McCrory, whose reelection bid remains too close to call, is seizing on reports of potential voter fraud to raise questions about the integrity of last week's election.

McCrory trails by as many as 5,000 votes against Democratic challenger Roy Cooper -- eight days after the polls closed.

The fraud concerns emerged in a separate local election in Bladen County, where officials have acknowledged "overtly similar" handwriting on several hundred absentee ballots.

While a formal complaint was filed by the winner of that local supervisor race, the McCrory campaign alleges some evidence suggests a group associated with the state Democratic Party may have paid people to cast votes for a write-in Democrat in that race and every other Democrat on the ballot, including Cooper.

Campaign official Ricky Diaz on Wednesday cited evidence suggesting potentially similar situations in other counties, though he declined to say whether this suggests voter fraud is widespread enough to impact the gubernatorial election.

"It warrants scrutiny," he said. "We fully expect it will be looked at."

McCrory has faced political headwinds since July, when he signed legislation requiring transgender people to use restrooms in public buildings that are associated with their birth gender, not the gender to which they identify. The passage of the so-called "bathroom bill" resulted in a country-wide backlash, including the NBA moving its all-star game in February.

The fresh fraud complaints, while focused on Bladen County, could serve to stoke doubts about the ballot-counting statewide.

County election officials sent a letter Nov. 2 to state election officials about finding the similarities in several handwritten ballots.

The letter raised the possibility the similar handwriting could be the result of people legally assisting voters in filling out ballots. However,

Senior Libyan al-Qaeda leader reported slain in drone strike
[NEWS24] A senior al-Qaeda leader was reportedly killed in a late-night drone strike that hit his home in Libya's remote south, a Libyan news agency said on Tuesday.
Yesterday the Libya Observer said he was still alive and suffering from minor wounds.
The strike was suspected to be the work of a Western military but a Pentagon spokesperson denied it was carried out by the United States.

The LANA news agency said that Abu Talha al-Hassnawi, a key figure in al-Qaeda's North African affiliate, was killed in his house in Sabha late on Monday.

According to the agency, al-Hassnawi was previously a leading member of al-Qaeda's affiliate in Syria, and was a leading recruiter of fighters heading to fight in Syria's vicious and complex conflict that has seen rival al-Qaeda and Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. snuffies battle each other.

Al-Hassnawi was also purportedly close to a top holy warrior once considered the most dangerous man in the Sahara - the one-eyed terror leader Mokhtar Belmokhtar, a former member of al-Qaeda's North Africa branch - and has been seen in his company in the past.

LANA also said that al-Hassnawi had fled to Sabha from the northern coastal city of Sirte, where Libyan militias and forces loyal to the UN-brokered government in the capital, Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
, are battling the Islamic State affiliate with the help of US Arclight airstrikes.

The LANA news agency that reported al-Hassnawi's death is affiliated with the east-based government.

A resident who lives near Sabha said the strike took place at 23:15 on Monday and that it targeted a house the Gurtha Shati village on Sabha's outskirts.

The attack left seven bodies completely charred so it was impossible to identify al-Hassnawi, he added.

The locals knew that the al-Qaeda leader had been in the house but "no one can tell who is who" among the bodies, the witness said, speaking on condition of anonymity
... for fear of being murdered...
fearing for his safety.

The witness also said he had seen al-Hassnawi together with Belmokhtar, whom a US drone strike failed to kill last year in the eastern Libyan town of Adjabiya, and that the two "came back from the fighting in Sirte."

It was not immediately possible to verify his account and local officials could not be reached for comment.

Obama Leaves Office With Strong Taliban, Crumbling Afghan Gov’t

Since the end of the U.S. combat mission in 2014, the Afghan government has been roiled by political crisis. Afghanistan's Caped President Ashraf Ghani

As Kabul

Home to continuous fighting from 1992 to 1996 between the forces of would-be strongman and Pak ISI/Jamaat-e-Islami sock puppet Gulbuddin Hekmayar and the Northern Alliance, a period which won Hek the title Most Evil Man in the World and didn't do much for the reputations of the Northern Alliance guys either....
squabbles over political power, the Afghan Defense Forces are suffering historic casualties in their fight against the Taliban. Afghans suffered 15,000 injuries in the first eight months of 2015, with 5,523 ending in death. The numbers reflect a beleaguered force with an astoundingly high rate of attrition.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Minnesota officer charged with manslaughter
[WASHINGTONPOST] The complaint states that Yanoz pulled over Castile, 32, after seeing him driving on the night of July 6 and saying that he looked like a suspect in a convenience store robbery days earlier. Choi said Wednesday that Castile is not a suspect in the robbery.

Yanez pulled Castile over at 9:04 p.m., and less than a minute later, began firing the first of seven fatal shots into the car. One bullet hit the armrest between Castile and Reynolds, the complaint said, while another went through the driver’s seat and hit the backseat behind Castile. Reynolds’s 4-year-old daughter was in a car seat on the passenger side of the backseat.

Authorities said that they reviewed audio recordings from Yanez’s squad car as well as video footage of the stop in determining the timeline. In the complaint, prosecutors say that Yanez approached Castile’s car and told him about a problem with his brake light.

[’He knew the kids and they loved him’: Minn. shooting victim was an adored school cafeteria manager]

After Castile handed Yanez his insurance card, Castile then said: "Sir, I have to tell you that I do have a firearm on me." Yanez, before Castile finished the sentence, put his hand on his holstered gun and calmly replied "Okay," according to the complaint.

Seconds later, Yanez told Castile not to pull out his gun, to which Castile said, "I’m not pulling it out," and Reynolds echoed the same message, the complaint said. Yanez then screamed, "Don’t pull it out" before pulling his own gun out and firing seven shots at Castile.

#1  "Sir, I have to tell you that I do have a firearm on me."

No he didn't. Minnesota does not have "duty to inform law". In any case, if one is carrying a gun there is a certain protocol that should be followed when interacting with LE. First, as trivial as it may sound don't say "I've got a gun". Statements like that tend to raise the anxiety level exponentially. Either say you have a permit to carry or,better yet, simply hand your permit along with your ID. Now here's the important step. Because the official still hasn't identified you nor secured the weapon keep your mitts in plain sight. Finally, calmly and politely follow their commands - to the letter. It would seem Castille's failure to follow these simple steps tragically contributed to his own demise.
