Wudn't me...
There was an underground fire in Baltimore yesterday that cut the power to MCI's cables this morning. We seem to be back up now, and hopefully we'll stay that way. My apologies.
Maybe you should post a "bright new photo" of the god Vishwakarma in front of the server...
Perhaps a sharp, sudden lateral displacement delivered to the knuckleheads at MCI would help.

Unrelated to the above, I've been messing with the Boris filter on the comments page. If you find yourself sink-trapped, let me know. I managed to put myself in there twice...

#5  RKKA is with a hosting company with servers in Baltimore. A similar event happened last year as well and iffin I recall correctly, the fire last year took down Fred's site as well.

I am really, really steamed about this, though, trying to learn DNS and mail as fast as I can to move everything over to my home network. I have my wargame club site there now and have been promising to move ftp, dns and mail over there, but I have been snowed under with machine shop work, and other stuff as well.

Grrr...

#8  Jeebus, machine shop and war gamming, a deadly combination?

You have NO idea.

I just signed up to the VRWC last month, bought a nice inexpensive Moison-Nagant and went to the firing range for the first time in 33 years two weeks ago. So, yeah, wargaming and a machine shop can be a deadly combination, but nothing like a nice WII vintage rifle.

#10  Badanov the 7.62X54R is a very potent round. While shooting at milk jugs at 100 yards we noticed our ammo was quite frangable. My Nigant is a "winter war" Sako rebuild. Fairly accurate for a infantry rifle. It's nothing like my first "Russian" Nigant which was not smooth in the action of the bolt after firing it 2 or 3 times and was not very accurate.

Well to many Ωs cause bad things in cables and wires AP

#14  I haven't done the 100 yard range yet. Just wanted to try it out. I shot 45 rounds, 45 hits, 8 inch dia. at 50 yards pattern start to finish. The gun wasn't bore sighted, so aim was adjusted by sight only. So I was pretty pleased with the rifle.

I had problems with the action a time or two but that was likely due to ammo rather than the rifle itself.

I could get used to shooting on a regular basis.

Studying the weapon, you can see why it is considered one of the most 'soldier proof' weapons around.

Arabia
Top Houthi aide surrenders to authorities
The top aide of a Yemeni rebel preacher who was killed by the army earlier this month surrendered to authorities on Monday along with dozens of supporters, an official told AFP. "Abdullah Ayedh al-Razami, chief lieutenant of Sheikh Hussein Badr Eddin al-Houthi, turned himself in to military authorities along with two aides and dozens of armed supporters" in the province of Saada in northwest Yemen, a local official said, requesting anonymity. They had been besieged by army troops for more than two months, he said. A military commander in Saada said Razami and his men surrendered as a result of both pressure by the military and efforts by tribal notables to prevent further bloodshed. The Yemeni government announced on September 10 that the army had killed Huthi, nearly three months after he started a rebellion in the country's mountainous northwest, near the border with Saudi Arabia, triggering clashes which left more than 400 people dead. The anti-US preacher was a member of the Zaidi sect, a moderate Shiite Muslim sect dominant in northwest Yemen but in the minority in the mainly Sunni country. Authorities had offered a 10-million-rial (55,000-dollar) reward for information leading to the capture of Huthi, whom they had accused of seeking to foment sectarian strife. But Huthi told AFP in July the conflict was a result of his anti-US stand.

Soddies nab three hard boyz
Saudi security forces, battling a wave of Al Qaeda attacks in the kingdom, arrested on Monday three wanted militants in the northern city of Tabuk, a security source said. One of the arrested men was believed to be on a list of 26 most wanted Al Qaeda suspects, the source said without naming him. An Interior Ministry official told Reuters he was checking reports of an incident in Tabuk. Al Qaeda militants have waged since 2003 a campaign of suicide bombings and shootings in the oil-rich kingdom aimed at driving Westerners out and hurting the economy and oil industry.

Britain
Britain Releases Man Held Since Dec. 2001
An Algerian who has been held without trial or charges since 2001 under anti-terrorism laws was freed by the British government Monday, his lawyer said. The prisoner, identified only as "D," was among eight people rounded up on Dec. 17, 2001, under the Anti-Terrorism, Crime and Security Act passed within weeks of the Sept. 11 attacks in the United States. Home Secretary David Blunkett announced Monday that "D" would be freed, and a short time later the man's lawyer, Natalia Garcia, said his client was released. As a matter of policy, the Home Office declines to give the exact time or location of such releases. Seventeen people were eventually arrested under the Anti-Terrorism, Crime and Security Act and held without charge, and 11 remain in custody with the release of "D," the Home Office said. "D" appealed his imprisonment in October when the Special Immigration Appeals Commission backed Blunkett's decision to lock him up. The commission described the prisoner as a "practiced and accomplished liar." On Monday, Blunkett said that "the weight of evidence in relation to 'D' at the current time does not justify the continuance of the certificate" authorizing the detention.

Colombia's F.A.R.C. Busted Trying To Buy $3,000,000 in Arms With Counterfeit Money
September 10th, 2004
A police bust in Cali, Colombia has revealed that the F.A.R.C. (Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia-Armed Revolutionary Forces of Colombia) tried to buy a lot of arms with $3,000,000 in counterfeit dollars. The police set up a sting to sell rifles & munitions to members of the Western United Command of the armed group. The Commander of the Cali Police, General Mario Gutiérrez indicated that the faction of the F.A.R.C. guerrillas tried to buy a shipment of arms with three million dollars in counterfeit bills in Cali's downtown district. The official told the radio station R.C.N. that a sting was set up to simulate a sale of rifles & munitions in Cali's downtown, in which eight people were detained, three vehicles seized & in which the counterfeit money was seized. Nevertheless, Gutiérrez affirmed that the police officers that participated in the operation were surprised to discover that the money they recieved from the F.A.R.C. was counterfeit & he added that the bills seem to have been manufactured by the F.A.R.C. themselves. The police indicated that the detained are operatives of the "logistical support network of the Western United Command of the F.A.R.C.," led by "Pablo Catatumbo," one of the members of the F.A.R.C.'s central command structure.

Four dozen counterfeit dollar factories have been recently discovered in Cali, including factories capable of manufacturing other types of currency. Around forty million dollars in counterfeit money has been confiscated. According to official studies, at least sixty percent of counterfeit dollars that are confiscated worldwide are produced in this region of Colombia.

Venezuelans Slain Near Colombia
Seven Venezuelans were killed near the Colombian border by, as yet, unidentified gunmen, El Nacional newspaper reported Saturday. The six Venezuelan soldiers and an engineer from the nation's state oil company were slain while inspecting a western oil field, according to military officials who speculate the attackers were either Colombia's left-wing rebels or right-wing paramilitaries. Both groups have been known to cross the nations' shared border and attack Venezuelan soldiers and civilians, sometimes taking them hostage for ransom. Relations between Colombian and Venezuela have been tense during recent years. Colombia's government has accused Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez of supporting leftist rebels, while Chavez in turn alleges paramilitaries have participated in plots to overthrow his government.

Dagestan Clash
More than 100 federal and regional police searched forests in Dagestan on Monday following a gun battle that killed seven people. A police patrol near the village of Talgi, about 10 kilometers southeast of Makhachkala, encountered the armed men in a tent Sunday and a firefight ensued. It was not immediately clear who the men were, but regional police said they had been living in well-equipped tents and appeared to be a highly organized group.

Russian quizzed on car explosives beaten to death
A Russian man detained for driving a car packed with explosives was beaten to death during a police interrogation, local media quoted officials as saying on Sunday. Interfax news agency reported prosecutors had started an investigation into crimes of "exceeding professional authority" and "causing grievous bodily harm, leading to death", after a post-mortem examination showed the man had been beaten and had not suffered a heart attack, as initially reported.
Somehow, I guessed that. I don't know how. I'm surprised it's out, though...
The driver was detained early on Saturday when police found explosives in his car. He told investigators he was being paid $1,000 to take the car to a major thoroughfare used by President Vladimir Putin to travel to and from the Kremlin. Seven hours after his arrest, he died.

Abu Walid's successor Abu Hafs al-Urduni threatens US, Russia
[Note: The author of this communique, Abu Hafs, a Jordanian national and representative of the Chechen mujahideen Shura council, is believed to be the same individual profiled by U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell in his February 5, 2003 speech before the United Nations as a principle conspirator in "[Abu Musab] Al-Zarqawi's Iraq-linked Terrorist Network." According to Time Magazine, Abu Hafs last slipped into Chechnya through Georgia's Pankisi Gorge in August 2002. Since the recent deaths of Ibn-ul-Khattab and Abu al-Walid al-Ghamidi, Abu Hafs seems to have taken control of the Al-Qaida-linked foreign mujahideen brigade active in the Caucasus.
"In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious Most Merciful:" "
Allah says, fight and kill for the sake of Allah only against those whose who attack and kill you [first], because Allah does not favor the aggressors." "The leaders of the Chechen and the Ansaar [foreign] mujahideen now declare the commencement of attacks on Russian and American interests in Chechnya after having observed that the Russian and American sides continue to [attack] the honor and dignity of Islam and the Muslims in Chechnya, Palestine, Iraq, Indonesia, Afghanistan, and in other Muslim countries. All this has happened within earshot and sight of the International Community, and yet, it has not moved the conscience of a single Arab leader because their consciences are soiled by treason against Allah, our religion, and our society
"

"Does there exist a civilization as pure and noble as the civilization based on Islamic justice?
We have taken it upon ourselves to make a pledge before Allah. We will make Russia and America taste death, and Ramadan will be the month of conquests through martyrdom operations everywhere across this universe. We will hit any target that we encounter and we fear only Allah
and those of us in the Military Shura Council appear to the Muslims to help support their fighting brothers with prayer and money."

Abu Hafs al-Urdani
— Commander of the Eastern Front and of "al-Ansaar" (the foreign mujahideen brigade) in the Caucasus
- Representative of the Military Shura [Advisory] Council of the Mujahideen Government

Turkish pop concert blast hurts 14
Fourteen people were wounded Sunday night when a bomb that had been planted inside a police car exploded outside an open-air concert venue in southern Turkey, state-run broadcast network Anatolia News reported, citing Turkish police. One of the wounded was in critical condition, the network said. Pop singer Candan Ercetin was headlining the evening's show. Mersin Gov. Osman Celebioglu said two other suspicious packages found in the city were being detonated. "The people behind this attack will not achieve their goals; we will bring them to justice," Celebioglu said in a written statement. There were no immediate claims of responsibility.

The PKK believe Turkey is occupying Kurdish lands as the Iraqi 'rebels' believe the US is occupying Iraq. You can't criticise the tactics of the one and at the same time complain about the tactics of the other. You never did admit what the Turkish for hypocrite is, did you?

#11  You're now trying excuses Bulldog, Iraq is a sovereign state that is occupied (according to the UN illegaly) there is no such sovereign state called Kurdistan nor did it exist ever, so your analogy is a bid screwed.
Posted by: Murat || 09/20/2004 6:55 Comments || Top||

#12  There was no Islamic fundamentalist state in Iraq pre-war, either. Or a Shiite dictatorship. So the insurgents who kill Iraqi women and children, policemen and foreign workers are not fighting to re-establish a former status quo, either. They're just slaughtering in attempts to grab power for themselves. Just as are the PKK. The analogy is perfectly apt. You relish politically motivated murders in Iraq, so don't start to complain when Turks are killed for political motivces in Turkey. You can expect much sympathy from us when your relatives are torn apart by PKK explosives as you offered to Iraqis whose relatives were torn apart by Islamofascist explosives in Iraq, ikiyüzlü.

#13  mmmm. Pork rinds. glglglglgl!
Posted by: BH || 09/20/2004 11:27 Comments || Top||

#14  If we wanna bit more accurate on a theological/legalistic/philosophical/moralistic level about wider issues of territory control and wars of liberation:

There's the point that Turkey claims that those territories of Kurdistan within its border are part of their own country (like Basque country is part of Spain, and Chechenya part of Russia) even if people of different ethnic background exist in them --- and as fully integrated in their own country, Turkey offers citizenship to those people it calls "Mountain Turks" (the rest of the world calls them "Kurds" instead ofcourse :).

On the other US forces occupy territory that they *don't* claim to be their own, and they are *not* extending American citizenship to all Iraqi citizens. That point goes to Turkey's favour.

The analogy breaks down further however to the benefit of the *other* side: For example Turkey's occupation of the Kurdish territories is indefinite, while America is being there on a supposedly temporary basis, and an elected Iraqi government will (theoretically atleast) be able to ask them to leave. That point goes in America's favour therefore, as America can be seen to be *restoring* 'sovereignty' to the Iraqi nation, instead of abolishing it.

But on the whole that point depends heavily on where each person thinks national sovereignty derives from: The nationalistic view of sovereignty cares primarily about whether it's national or non-national forces that interfere with the progress. Murat, being a nationalist, sees therefore the American invasion as violating Iraqi sovereignty.

Me, being a democrat, believe that there never existed any sovereignty there to violate. Governments can derive their authority only from the free consent of the governed: So I totally reject the idea of sovereignty in tyrannical states. Indeed in this case it's the so-called "Iraqi resistance" that tries to cause Iraqi sovereignty to die before it was born, as their victory would mean the defeat of democracy and thus the chance of any morally legitimate authority in Iraq.

Cheers.

Something we agree on, Aris. I'm surprised.

Another non-fan of the Treaty of Westphalia! I agree completely, and have no trouble whatsoever in having a coalition of willing democratic states work to remove thugs wherever they are. That is and has been the strongest point (for me) in removing Saddam.

Wahabi Imam in Ohio gets jail for ties to Hard Boyz
The leader of Ohio's largest mosque was sentenced Monday to two months in federal prison and four months of house arrest for lying about his connections to terrorist groups when he applied for U.S. citizenship. Palestinian-born Fawaz Damra, imam of the Islamic Center of Cleveland, could have received up to five years in prison on the charge of obtaining U.S. citizenship in 1994 by providing false information. Prosecutors had requested the maximum sentence, but U.S. District Judge James S. Gwin said he did not view the citizenship application offense as a terrorism issue the way prosecutors had tried to suggest. Sentencing guidelines for first-time offenders called for probation to six months in prison. Prosecutors also urged Gwin to immediately revoke Damra's citizenship, but Damra's attorneys asked him to wait until after the appeal, which could take years. Gwin did not immediately rule on the matter.

U.S. Attorney Gregory White said after sentencing that revoking Damra's citizenship is more important than getting a longer prison sentence. Gwin allowed Damra to remain free on bond. He said the imam could start serving his sentence after the Muslim holiday of Ramadan ends in November. Damra, 41, stood upright with his hands folded in front on him, wiping his face with a handkerchief while the sentence was announced. His attorney, John Cline, declined to comment, except to say the imam will appeal. Damra was convicted June 17. The government said that when Damra applied for citizenship, he concealed ties to Afghan Refugee Services, the Islamic Committee for Palestine and Palestinian Islamic Jihad, groups the U.S. government classifies as terrorist organizations. The defense, which called no witnesses, said Damra may have supported certain groups but did not consider himself a member or affiliate of them. At the trial in June, prosecutors showed video footage of Damra and other Islamic leaders raising money for an arm of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad. Jurors also were shown footage in which Damra called Jews "the sons of monkeys and pigs" during a 1991 speech and said "terrorism and terrorism alone is the path to liberation" in a 1989 speech. Damra has continued to lead the mosque in the Cleveland suburb of Parma. Some mosque members unsuccessfully tried to oust him, but others have supported him.
One important question may be asked who gave the money to build that mosque, and I am sure answer will be SODDY

Resistance Fighters Hit Saddam International Airport With GRAD Missile
From Jihad Unspun
Saddam International Airport was hit with an Iraqi modified GRAD missile. Resistance fighters launched the modified surface to surface missile at Saddam International Airport, a facility the Americans now use at a military air base. The missile is Soviet made but the Iraqis have modified it to make it more powerful. Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent reported that the explosion was extremely powerful and the American forces were forced to halt all incoming and outgoing air traffic.

Militants behead three Afghans in south: Official
Suspected Taleban militants beheaded three Afghan soldiers in the troubled southern province of Zabul over the weekend in the latest pre-election violence, an official said yesterday. Zabul security chief Jailani Khan said the soldiers, who were not in uniform, were travelling in a taxi from Naubahar district to the provincial capital of Qalat when they were stopped by a group of men that included two Pakistanis and an Arab. The three passengers were beheaded in an attack claimed by a breakaway faction of Afghanistan's ousted Taleban militia, which has vowed to step up violence in the runup to a presidential election on October 9. "We have already announced that anyone in the government or aiding the infidels will be killed," said Sabir Momin, a commander of the Taleban Jamiat Jaish-e-Muslimeen (Muslim Army of the Taleban) faction.

Resistance Fighters Killed 30 Occupation Forces in Baghdad Battle
From Jihad Unspun
A fresh and bloody conflict between Iraqi Resistance fighters and American occupation forces broke out yesterday on Haifa Street in the center of Baghdad that resulted in heavy losses for the Americans who were forced to withdraw by late afternoon. The battle broke out at approximately 1:00 pm when US Marines tried to enter Haifa Street under the cover of an intense aerial bombardment. The Americans also positioned snipers on the roof tops of Saddam Medical City Buildings as well as other buildings, which were countered by Iraqi snipers placed in strategic positions.

The American strategy to take Haifa street yesterday was to deploy 13 armored personnel carriers, each holding 11 allied troops who would then enter on to the street through the rear doors of the vehicles. The strategy was known to Iraqi resistance who fighters then showered the Americans and their collaborators with intense gunfire and RPGs resulted in the heavy casualties. Resistance fighters fired a variety of ordinances at the aggressors including 60mm mortar rounds, RPG and BKC rockets and hand grenades. By late afternoon, after the battle raged for several hours, American and US-led Iraqi forces were forced to withdraw after incurring heavy losses.

Approximately 30 occupation forces were killed, according to Mafkarat al-Islam who had three reporters on Hafia Street with Iraqi resistance fighters during the battle. Their reports state that it was nearly impossible to distinguish between dead Americans and dead collaborators because both were wearing the same uniforms.

American forces retrieved those killed as two Apache helicopters provided cover from the air, stacking the bodies on top of each other in two armored vehicles. It should be noted that this is the first time that Mafkarat al-Islam's correspondents have reported that female US-led Iraqi soldiers were seen fighting alongside of Americans for the first time. It is unclear whether any were killed in yesterday's conflict.

From CNN:
An American military convoy was struck Monday morning by a roadside bomb on a crowded street in central Baghdad, wounding at least 15 Iraqi civilians, witnesses said. The witnesses said the five-vehicle convoy was passing through a bridge at the end of Haifa Street -- site of clashes between U.S. troops and insurgents -- when an improvised explosive device detonated. No U.S. casualties were reported.

Microwave gun (and "Gunslinger") to be used by US troops on Iraq rioters
Microwave weapons that cause pain without lasting injury are to be issued to American troops in Iraq for the first time as concern mounts over the growing number of civilians killed in fighting. The non-lethal weapons, which use high-powered electromagnetic beams, will be fitted to vehicles already in Iraq, which will allow the system to be introduced as early as next year... ...The armoured vehicles will be named Sheriffs once they have been modified to carry the microwave weapons, known as the Active Denial System (ADS)... ...In another development, the Sheriffs will be fitted with Gunslinger, a rapid-fire gun currently under development that will detect enemy snipers and automatically fire back at them...
This is the first mention that the "Gunslinger" system is to be deployed. It has been developed by the Naval Surface Warfare Center, but I'm hard pressed to find its specifications.

Fallujah Blasts Kill at Least 2, Injure 3
At least two people were killed and three wounded in explosions that rocked the rebel-held city of Fallujah on Monday, hospital officials said. The cause of the blasts was not immediately known but U.S. warplane were seen flying over the city, where American forces have frequently carried out airstrikes. The U.S. military had no immediate comment. Dhia Adel of Fallujah General Hospital said the two killed and three wounded were city municipal employees using a bulldozer to work on construction projects near the Fallujah railway station. U.S. jets have repeatedly targeted cranes and bulldozers on the edge of the city after intelligence showed they were being used by militants to build fortified positions.

Gunmen Slay Two Holy Men in Baghdad
Gunmen killed a Sunni Muslim cleric as he entered a mosque in Baghdad to perform noon prayers Monday, the second slaying of a cleric from the influential Association of Muslim Scholars in as many days, the group said. The cleric, Sheik Mohammed Jadoa al-Janabi, was killed in Baghdad's predominantly Shiite al-Baya neighborhood, the association said. He was unarmed and had no security guards. "It was a cleric coming to a mosque," said one official who spoke on condition of anonymity. "There was no need for a bodyguard."

Late Sunday, gunmen attacked the car of another cleric from the association as he was leaving a mosque in another largely Shiite neighborhood of Baghdad, Sadr City. The cleric, Sheik Hazem al-Zeidi, was killed and two of his bodyguards were briefly taken hostage, said Sheik Abdul-Sattar Abdul-Jabbar, a senior member of the association. The bodyguards were released Monday.

Sadr City has a Shiite Muslim majority, but Sunni Muslims have at least 10 mosques in the neighborhood. "After performing the night prayers at al-Sajjad Mosque in Sadr City (al-Zeidi) left in his car with two bodyguards." Abdul-Jabbar said. "A group of masked gunmen followed him in a private car and opened fire."

There have been tit-for-tat killings of Shiite and Sunni clerics in the past year, widely believed to be motivated by sectarian sentiments. However, the embattled police never thoroughly investigate such murders. In Baghdad, where Shiites and Sunnis are roughly equal in number, attacks have taken place against places of worship belonging to both communities. The organization is a conservative group that has worked for the release of foreign hostages. It strongly opposes the U.S. presence in Iraq. Report: Iraqi Guard Members Released
Eighteen Iraqi National Guard members held hostage have been released, the Arab television station Al-Jazeera said Monday. The station showed a videotape of men who were apparently the soldiers. The men had shed their combat fatigues and were now in traditional white robes, clutching Qurans. The announcer said that a member of the group holding the men, the Brigades of Mohammed bin Abdullah, read a statement that said the release came in response to a demand by rebel Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr. The news reader also said that the statement offered a warning to all who cooperate with those it called the forces occupying Iraq. The group had threatened to kill the captives unless one of al-Sadr's aides was freed within 48 hours, the station said Sunday. U.S. and Iraqi forces detained the aide, Hazem al-Araji, in a weekend raid on al-Sadr's Baghdad offices. Al-Sadr denounced the abduction and called for the hostages release on Monday, a spokesman for the cleric said, adding that al-Sadr's followers had nothing to do with the kidnapping.

Two more helizapped in Gaza
An explosion ripped through a car in the southern part of Gaza City, killing two people and wounding eight, hospital officials said, in what appeared to be an Israeli air strike. Witnesses said the targeted vehicle was a small pickup truck with official Palestinian Authority license plates, witnesses said, and bystanders pulled the two bodies, badly burned, from the smoking wreck. Farmer Issam Abdel Khalim, 42, was driving his donkey cart nearby. "Suddenly there was a flash from the sky and I head an explosion," he said. "My donkey jumped and hit the wall, and I saw the vehicle on fire."

Witnesses said Palestinian security officers pulled two Kalashnikov assault rifles from the vehicle. Hospital officials said two of the less seriously wounded were children. The dead were not immediately identified. The Israeli military said it would have no immediate comment. On Sunday, an Israeli helicopter fired a missile at a car in Gaza City, killing a Hamas militant and wounding six other people.

Afghan VP Escapes Bomb; Two GIs Killed
A deputy to U.S.-backed President Hamid Karzai escaped a roadside bombing in northern Afghanistan on Monday, just four days after Karzai himself was targeted as he tried to hit the campaign trail for landmark Oct. 9 elections. Nayiamatullah Shahrani, one of four Afghan vice presidents, and Urban Development Minister Gul Agha Sherzai were on their way to inspect a road project in northern Kunduz province when the explosion rocked their convoy, police said. The remote-controlled bomb, hidden at a roadside in Khanabad district, damaged a car in the 20-vehicle convoy that was carrying Shahrani's bodyguards, slightly hurting one of them with flying glass, Police Chief Mutaleb Beg said.

Meanwhile, two U.S. soldiers and several militants were killed in firefights in the volatile southeast Monday, further underlining fragile security ahead of the vote.

AP: Militants Funding Terror With Heists
It started with a robbery, but the gang that burst into a branch of Al-Habib Bank in this teeming port city had no interest in striking it rich, and the university graduate driving the getaway car was just getting started on a master plan for terror. The heist, carried out in daylight and with AK-47 assault rifles, is emblematic of a new brand of Islamic militant — more educated but less established and largely cut off from traditional sources of terror funding, Pakistani police and intelligence officials told The Associated Press.

Atta-ur Rehman and his Jundullah gang walked away from the bank in Karachi on Nov. 18 with just under $70,000, enough to finance an eight-month wave of attacks against the U.S. Consulate, a Christian Bible studies group, a peace concert by an Indian singer, a police station, and a senior Pakistani military general. At least 17 people died in the assaults, all carried out in the urban sprawl of Karachi, a city of 15 million that's honeycombed with terror hideouts and al-Qaida safehouses. There's no indication al-Qaida had a hand in Jundullah's spree, but some gang members are believed to have spent time at training camps with top members of Osama bin Laden's network. "Normally, when robbers loot a bank they split the cash and go their separate ways, but the Jundullah gang only spent about 500,000 rupees ($8,600) from their heist and they stuck together," said Fayyaz Leghari, chief of operations for the Karachi police. "They were not ordinary robbers. They saw the bank job as a way to fund their holy mission."

In the case of drug running, they are now not only following the lead of the drug cartels, but actively using the cartels transportation and distribution links to launder/transfer funds and people. For a steep fee of course. The pirates are taking vessels, selling the cargo, stealing the hi-tec computers and GPS systems, or killing the crew, repainting/renaming the vessel and redocumenting it in China, Cambodia or landlocked Mongolia.

American beheaded in Iraq: website
ONE of two American hostages being held with a Briton in Iraq had been beheaded, a website statement said today. The claim, which could not be verified this morning, came after a 48-hour deadline set by the men's kidnappers passed. The short statement was posted by a website contributor using the pseudonym Abu Maysara al-Iraqi, who has put up past statements. It was signed in the name of Tawhid and Jihad and referred to suspected al-Qaeda operative Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, with whom the hostage-takers are believed to be linked. The statement said that al-Zarqawi "God protect him, has beheaded the first American". "The group will next behead the others." The posting promised video proof "soon, God willing".

#4  It's time to counter these barbaric beheadings with an iron response. Jihadis get their sense of value by pretending to have the power of God. We need to correct that delusion. They need to learn a deathly lesson about what happens when men commit evil acts in the name of God.

In this electronic age of terror, we need media to keep informed, but we need to shut down any media when it helps jihadists commit their crimes. We could put the screws to countries to arraign (AS TELEVISED EVENTS) the bigwigs of Islamic websites for abetting in terrorist acts. If the media companies scream freedom of the press, we should smack them with charges of participation in murders and close them down unless they starting fessing up where they got the tapes. And if states start screaming "you are interfering with our sovereignty" and refuse to help stop psychopathic killers, the gloves come off with regard to "protecting" their mosques.

These beheadings are stirring up hatred against Muslims. Some sh*t better change and NOW.

So, how do these websites get the video? Is it sent over the Internet? Is it delivered to a sympathetic crony? Tighten the net and haul some folks in.

I just heard on the news that the body was found in a mosque in Baghdad. Shut the mosque down or destroy it. Enough silent complicity from moderate Muslims. Share the pain.

In terms of law, cingold, you usually have legal insight to add to the argument. Is there a parallel between the way we treat child porn distributors and the way we could treat Jihad-sympathetic sites? Each didn't "commit" the act, but each promotes it. In the case of distributing porn, you can also be arrested and convicted, correct?

Write an emergency law, do what it takes. If it happens in the US, seize the assets of the company.

These beheadings are beyond the pale; they require a devastating response. I refuse to become numb in the face of these atrocities.

On the lighter side, I noted the guy wearing adidas tracksuit pants - seems they cant help but buy American clothes - makes you wonder...

Hostage in Iraq May Have Been Killed
A Web site posting claimed that Abu Musab al-Zarqawi's group has beheaded one of the American hostages in Iraq, but the claim could not be verified. The short statement, posted by a Web site contributor who has put up past statements signed in the name of Tawhid and Jihad, said that al-Zarqawi, "God protect him, has beheaded the first American. The group will next behead the others."
Not unexpected, but...damn.

Israel-Palestine
Palestinian 'traitor' executed in front of children
Masked Palestinian gunmen executed a suspected collaborator in a public square in the West Bank today, shooting the bound man before hundreds of onlookers, including schoolchildren. The body of a second alleged informer was found in a nearby rural area. The violent Al Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades, a group with ties to Yasser Arafat's ruling Fatah movement, claimed responsibility for the killings. The group said in a leaflet that the two men — Fadel Oudeh and Amjad Ajaj — had helped Israel kill three senior militants over the past year. Odeh and Ajaj were kidnapped two weeks ago from their village near the West Bank town of Tulkarem, residents said. Masked gunmen today drove Ajaj to a square in Tulkarem. They threw the bound man out of the vehicle and shot him numerous times as a crowd of about 500 people, including schoolchildren, gathered around, said witnesses.

#2  Yep. And a voyeuristic death cult at that.

What a way to raise kids. The kids will become like the Eli (sp?) in the Time Machine-everyone brainwashed to block off any signs of life from the heart.

U.S. Soldier on Patrol Killed in Iraq
I'm having difficulty imagining a headline from 1944 that read "U.S. Soldier Killed on Patrol in France". It just doesn't work for me...

Iraqi childrens hands cut off for selling soldiers sodas: Marines
Along the Syrian border is a small town called Husaybah. Though diminutive in size, it has seen its fair share of violent clashes between United States Marines and terrorist insurgents. Marines from 3rd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, know this first hand. They take home with them the vivid memories of a fierce encounter. "We were getting small-arms fire, machine-gun fire and mortared on a regular basis for the entire time we were there," said Lance Cpl. Austin T. Herbel, an assaultman for Weapons Platoon, Company L. "The locals were afraid to help us because the terrorist would kill anyone who helped us," said Lance Cpl. Andrew Y. Tuttle, another assaultman for Weapons Platoon. "It was so bad that children would get their hands cut off for selling us sodas," added Lance Cpl. Joshua J. Rutherford, a machine gunner for Weapons Platoon.

#3  But every self-loathing American would tell you that when it comes to comparing family values, the arab/muslim culture is superior to the American culture in the love for their children. They would tell you that arab/muslims love and place their children above anything else!

#4  A6134 - Yeah... tell that to the Isreali's who lost loved ones to 'little martyrs'......

It could have been worse --- they could have placed woman's panties on the children's heads. (according to the mainstream media... who have yet to report this.)

Afghanistan/South Asia
Algerian among 2 detained in Peshawar
Security agencies arrested an Arab and a Pakistani on suspension of having links with Al Qaeda from a house in Sufaid Dher area on the outskirts of Peshawar, sources told Dawn on Sunday. A special team from Islamabad, with the help of Crimes Investigation Department, raided the house of Algerian national Ibrahim alias Rauf and his Pakistani aide Shahid on Saturday night, they said.
Ibrahim has an "aide"? Is that like an intern? And the "aide"'s name is "Shahid"? As in "boomer"?
"Baass, Baass, de plane, de plane!"
Both Al Qaeda suspects were arrested without any resistance, they added.
Oh, good. Nobody exploded.
The agency personnel claimed to have recovered some sensitive documents, CDs, a computer and pistol from their possession. The two had been shacking up living in the locality for two months, the sources said. Ibrahim and Shahid were earlier living in Mardan and shifted to a rented house in Sufaid Dheri two months ago. The agency shifted both the suspects to some unknown location.
