Woman blindfolded, stabbed date in revenge for Qasem Soleimani Assasination
What Happens in Vegas...
[LasVegasReviewJournal] A woman is accused of stabbing a man on Saturday at Sunset Station as revenge for the killing of an Iranian military leader.

Nika Nikoubin, 21, is being held on $60,000 bail after she was charged with attempted murder, two counts of battery and burglary of a business, according to jail records.
Jihadette or cray-cray? Her photo makes her look decidedly unhealthy...
A man called police around 10:30 p.m. Saturday from the 14th floor of Sunset Station to report that he had been stabbed in the neck by a woman he met on a dating app, according to an arrest report from the Henderson Police Department released Friday.

The woman told police she wanted revenge for the death of Qasem Soleimani, who was assassinated during a U.S. Air Force drone strike on Jan. 3, 2020. The arrest report indicated that the woman began to have sex with the man, and after she put a blindfold on him, she reached into her purse and pulled out the knife.

"She advised that there are injustices, in particular the killing of Qasem Soleimani in Iran," homeland security detectives added to the Henderson arrest report. "Nikoubin stated she wanted revenge."

#5  I guess she thought he assassinated that monkey.
Or maybe she blamed herself for the assassination and wanted to do time to make up for it.
Or maybe she wanted to freeload off the prison system and so waste US government money, as revenge for the assassination.
Or maybe he just came too soon.

#12  Iranian cruise missiles strike US Consulate in Erbil.

Noted with thanks, US Under Attack. I’ll cue that up as an article for tomorrow’s Burg, so check under Iraq on Page 1: WoT after the midnight rollover.

In future, you can work up an article yourself — at the top of each page of Rantburg.com, underneath the website banner, you’ll see Post a news link Post your own article . Click on one, then fill in the blanks with the headline, text of the article (if you post more than the bare news link) — including your own in-line comments (you’ll want to highlight those) — and the URL in the source box. There are drop-down menus so you can file the article where you think it belongs, add an image, and even set it to the next day, if you post the thing after 2 p.m. ET or it isn’t urgent. Then click on Preview to make sure it looks like you want it to, and when you’re satisfied click Submit. There are also a bunch of icons along the top that do a bunch of things to whatever highlighted bit of text you choose — I haven’t actually figured out all of them yet.

Kenyan troops repulses Al-Shabaab attack in southern Somalia
[Garowe] al-Shabaab
...... Somalia's version of the Taliban
...mindless ferocity in a turban...
, functioning as an arm of al-Qaeda...

Death Eaters on Thursday suffered a huge setback after the Kenya Defense Forces [KDF] managed to repulse an organized attack, which would have been rather devastating according to eyewitnesses.

Top officials who spoke to the media confirmed that the KDF team manning Sector II managed to flush away the Death Eaters in Hosingow Forward Operating Base [FOB], which has often been targeted by the turbans.

Reports indicate several Death Eaters were maimed in the encounter on Thursday within the region, which is under Jubaland administration. There is a huge presence of KDF troops in Jubaland who serve in Sectors II and IV of AMISOM.

The milestone staged by KDF comes just after the Somali National Army [SNA] managed to kill at least 10 al-Shabaab Death Eaters besides injuring several others at Jimame town in the Lower Juba region, which most parts was liberated from the Death Eaters about several years ago.

In his address to the media earlier this week, SNA Infantry Deputy Commander Ismail Sheikh Isak, on Wednesday said the operation to flush out al-Shabaab Death Eaters will continue in the area until the terror outfit is driven out of the area.

The Kenya Defense Forces have close to 3,500 soldiers in the AMISOM team who are credited for victory against al-Shabaab in many battlegrounds. The KDF team has been in Somalia since 2011 following the launch of Operation Linda Nchi.

Despite winning battles in cities such as Kismayo
...a port city in the southern Lower Juba province of Somalia, at the extreme southern end of the country (always assuming Somalia can be called a country). It is the commercial capital of the autonomous Jubaland region....
and Dhobley, KDF suffered unexpected attacks in El-Adde and Kulbiyow in the Gedo region where hundreds of soldiers were killed in 2016 and 2017 respectively. The Death Eaters have, however, been significantly neutralized.

Sudan gunmen kill 17 civilians in new Darfur clashes

At least 17 civilians have been killed in Sudan’s Darfur region, officials said Friday, in the latest violence between rival ethnic groups that has left dozens dead this week alone.

Recent fighting has seen heavily armed forces battle in the rugged Jebel Moon mountains in West Darfur state, close to the border with Chad.

On Thursday, fighting killed 17 people and also left “dozens of injured and missing” as well as “four villages completely burned”, said Adam Regal, spokesman for the General Coordination for Refugees and Displaced in Darfur, an independent aid organization.

Libya Armed Groups Step Back after Tripoli Escalation
[An Nahar] Libya's parliament-appointed prime minister said Friday that gangs backing him had withdrawn from positions around Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
, after the U.N. warned of a new escalation in the divided country.Libya has had rival administrations since the eastern-based assembly swore in a prime minister earlier this month in a challenge to interim premier Abdulhamid Dbeibah.

Dbeibah has refused to hand over power to Fathi Bashagha, arguing that his own administration, installed last year under a United Nations

-led grinding of the peace processor, has a mandate to rule until elections.

Pro-Bashagha forces had deployed on the eastern edges of Tripoli on Thursday, prompting the U.N. mission in Libya (UNSMIL) to warn against any escalation.

But Bashagha's office said in a statement in the early hours of Friday that the groups had "opted not to use arms, and to return to their bases."

The groups had mobilized "to provide security, not to wage war," it said.

Libya has been riven by conflict since the 2011 revolt that toppled dictator Muammar Qadaffy
...Proof that a madman with money will be politely received for at least 42 years until his people get tired of him and kill him...
, and has had two rival governments before: from 2014 until Dbeibah was sworn in last year.

Washington's ambassador to Libya, Richard Norland, had also warned Thursday against spiraling tensions.

Late Thursday evening he said he had spoken to both Dbeibah and Bashagha, praising what he said were moves to resolve the standoff peacefully.

He commended Dbeibah's "commitment to protect lives" and Bashagha's "willingness to de-escalate tensions."

"Libya's stability and unity can only be sustained through dialogue and respect for the right of freedom of movement throughout the country," he tweeted.

Nigerian Military Kills Scores Of Terrorists In Kebbi, Arrests Bandits’ Informant, Go After More Collaborators

The Nigerian military has neutralised scores of terrorists in Kebbi State during an operation to flush them out of the region.

The operation, which took place on Thursday, was in response to the killing of at least 18 soldiers of the Nigerian Army and over 60 members of a local vigilante group in Zuru under Sakaba Local Government Area of Kebbi State earlier this week.

The attack on the fleeing bandits, which took place around the border between Kebbi and Zamfara states, saw a reinforcement of military personnel intercepting and decimating the insurgents in large numbers.

A community leader in the region, who spoke with Sahara Reporters on Friday, said residents saw several bullet-ridden bodies of the terrorists near the border with Zamfara Forest after the military operation on Thursday.

“The military took a decisive step by mobilising men and weapons including air support strikes for the operation. The bandits were intercepted on the fringes of the border with Zamfara Forest.

“They were bombarded with airstrikes and infantry support from Sokoto. We counted several bodies ridden with bullets after the military operation. The entire region is tense because nobody knows what will happen next,” the source said.

Revealing that military personnel arrested an informant for the terrorists during the attack, a resident of Sakaba Local Government Area of Kebbi State, Ahmed Gombai, said that others working closely with the insurgents were already being tracked by the law enforcement agency.

“One informant for the bandits was arrested in Zuru on Thursday and he named three ladies who are collaborators in giving bandits information, especially on this latest attack.

“The military is also tracking them and others for immediate arrest and help to provide more details on the operations of the hoodlums.

“At the moment, we feel safer as huge military men and weapons have been deployed to Bena, Merceri, Magaba, Kanya and Kangon Wasagu areas where the terrorists struck this week. We are hopeful things will get better,” he said.

In a signal seen by Sahara Reporters on Thursday, the Nigerian Army confirmed that indeed 18 of its personnel were killed by terrorists in Kebbi during the week.

The army further revealed that soldiers from Light Tank Battalion engaged the hoodlums in a fierce gun battle that left eight military personnel wounded and two others missing till date.

Terrorists Abduct 14 Worshippers From Mosque In Kaduna, Conduct House-To-House Search

Terrorists, locally known as bandits, on Thursday, invaded a mosque in the Giwa Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

According to the report, the bandits abducted about 14 persons in the attack and rustled an unspecified number of cattle from Tudun Amada village.

However, it is unclear if there were any casualties in the attack.
Eyewitness reports reveal that the heavy bandits divided themselves into groups; some were at the mosque while others moved from house to house abducting people.

Some of them rustled hundreds of cows, sheep, and goats.

About three weeks ago, bandits abducted the wives and four daughters of Mallam Ibrahim Tanko, the Ssrkin Hausawa of Anguwar Azara in Jere, along Abuja-Kaduna highway, Kaduna State.

The traditional ruler said the bandits, who wielded sophisticated weapons, invaded his house around 11:52pm on the day of the attack.
He said he managed to escape using one of the exit doors.

“It was after they searched and couldn’t see me that they went into a room where my daughters were sleeping and whisked four of them away at gunpoint,” he said.

The Sarkin Hausawa gave the names of his abducted daughters as Aisha Ibrahim, Farida Ibrahim, Zainab Ibrahim and Hussaina Ibrahim.
He said the bandits proceeded to a neighbour’s house and whisked away four residents alongside a nursing mother identified as Laraba Umar.

Arabia
Saudi Arabia: 2 Americans Freed in Yemen Special Op Mission
[AnNahar] Saudi Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. Fifteen of the nineteen WTC hijackers were Saudis, and most major jihadi commanders were Saudis, to include Osama bin Laden. Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman quietly folded that tent in 2016, doing terrible things to the guys running it, and has since been dragging the kingdom into the current century...
has said it had rescued two young American women from Yemen

The Saudi defense ministry said the women, both Yemeni-American teenagers, were being held by Iran-backed Iran's Houthi sock puppets

rebels in the Yemeni capital of Sanaa after having been taken captive while visiting their grandmother.

The women were taken by Saudi operatives from Sanaa to Aden, then flown to Saudi Arabia for medical treatment. They have now been repatriated to the U.S., the Saudis said. There was no immediate comment from Washington.

The Saudis did not say when the rescue mission took place but a person familiar with the operation said it occurred in January and was being made public now because the women are now back in the U.S.

"During a family visit to Sanaa, the two U.S. citizens were mistreated by the Houthi militia," said Saudi Defense Ministry spokesperson Brig. Gen. Turki al-Malki. "The Houthis also placed restrictions on their freedom and movement, and their passports were confiscated."

"Following a request from the U.S. and through a special security operation, the two U.S. citizens were freed and then transported from Sanaa to Aden," he said. "Subsequently, they were flown from Aden to Riyadh by the Royal Saudi Airforce."

The statement said the joint operation was indicative of cooperation between Washington and Riyadh, something which many have called into question recently due to differences on issues ranging from global oil supplies to Russia's invasion of Ukraine to the Iran

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
French-Palestinian lawyer jailed again by Israel over alleged terror links
[IsraelTimes] Salah Hamouri, who rights groups say had his phone hacked last year by NSO’s Pegasus spyware, picked up a day after publishing op-ed criticizing ’Israeli apartheid’

An Israeli military court on Thursday sentenced a French-Paleostinian lawyer to four months in jail without charge or trial, saying he poses a threat to security.

Salah Hamouri, 36, was arrested on Monday and will be held under what is known as administrative detention.

The controversial practice allows for suspects to be detained without charge for renewable periods of six months.

The court accused him of being a member of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Paleostine (PFLP), and said he "endangers security in the region."

The PFLP has been implicated in several fatal attacks on Israelis and is considered by Israel, the United States, and the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
as a "terrorist group."

A day before his arrest, Hamouri published an op-ed in the socialist magazine Jacobin in which he wrote that what "Israel’s apartheid regime has done is aimed at silencing me and encouraging me to give up and leave the country."

Last year, human rights
...which are usually open to widely divergent definitions...
groups said Hamouri was on a list of activists whose phones were hacked by the Pegasus spyware from the Israeli NSO Group.

Hamouri has been arrested and jugged
Drop the gat, Rocky, or you're a dead 'un!
by Israeli authorities on several occasions.

In 2005, he was detained, then tried and convicted on charges of plotting to assassinate Ovadia Yosef, Israel’s former chief rabbi.

French President Emmanuel Macron discussed his case several times with then-prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

He was released from prison in 2011 but was re-arrested in 2017 and jugged
Drop the gat, Rocky, or you're a dead 'un!
for 18 months without trial over unspecified allegations.

"The detention system in Israeli prisons is often hard. The Israelis try everything to imprison our will, to isolate us from our society and our family," Hamouri said at the time, denying association with the PFLP and the liquidation attempt.

Israel says administrative detention protects sources and prevents attacks. Critics say it denies prisoners due process.

[BenarNews] Indonesia’s medical association is expressing disbelief and demanding that police explain what led counter-terrorism officers to gun down a Central Java doctor suspected of belonging to Jemaah Islamiyah, a bully boy group blamed for the 2002 Bali bombings.

Police said they shot and killed Sunardi, a physician who was known among colleagues for his charitable work, in Sukoharjo regency on Wednesday night after he allegedly drove recklessly to evade arrest, endangering officers.
"He needed killing"
"I will ask the police. I will go to the cop shoppe to talk to them and ask for clarification," Arif Budi Satrio, chairman of the local branch of the Indonesian Medical Doctors Association (IDI), told news hounds on Friday.

"There should be no association between the medical profession and terrorism because the two things are extremely contradictory," he said.

Meanwhile,
...back at the wreckage, Captain Poindexter awoke groggily, his hand still stuck in the Ming vase...
national police front man Brig. Gen. Ahmad Ramadhan said the officers in Densus 88, a police anti-terrorism unit, had followed standard procedures and were forced to shoot.

Sunardi, he said, held several key positions within Jemaah Islamiyah (JI), including deputy for proselytization and information, as well as adviser to the emir (leader).

Ramadhan said Sunardi was in charge of the Hilal Ahmar Society Indonesia (HASI), identified as an ostensibly charitable organization by the United Nations
...a formerly good idea gone bad...
Security Council. It allegedly raised funds for JI and helped send members overseas.

"The action taken by Densus 88 was in accordance with procedure. The action was taken because S.U. was deemed to be endangering public lives and those of the coppers," Ramadhan told a news conference on Friday, using Sunardi’s initials even though he was identified by only one name.

Ramadhan said officers had stopped Sunardi’s pickup truck and identified themselves properly, but he drove recklessly in an apparent attempt to hurt officers who had jumped onto the back of the vehicle. Two officers were maimed and treated at a hospital.

"We need to clarify that SU had been designated a suspect. His involvement was clear," Ramadhan said.

’EXTREMELY REGRETTABLE’
But Trisno Raharjo, the head of the Legal and Human Rights Council at Muhammadiyah, Indonesia’s second largest Islamic organization, called for police to conduct an internal investigation.

"If it’s true that he resisted, they should have used non-lethal force and not killed him," Trisno told BenarNews. "This is extremely regrettable. These kind of things will cause more problems.

"To prevent a public uproar, an open, transparent and sincere investigation must be carried out, whoever is involved. Whether or not the family demands it, an investigation must be conducted by police," he said.

Abdul Mu’ti, secretary general of Muhammadiyah, echoed that call.

"The law must be enforced on anyone. If any Densus members violated procedures, they should be punished according to the law," he said in a statement.

Sunardi’s death trended on Twitter on Friday, with more than 43,000 accounts using the hashtag #prayfordoktersunardi (pray for Doctor Sunardi).

Family front man Endro Sudarsono said relatives did not believe that Dr. Sunardi was involved in terrorism.

The police did not notify them about the shooting, Endro alleged.

"The family has confirmed that they only received documents related to his death from the hospital. There were no other documents," he said.

Endro said several lawyers offered to assist the family if they decided to seek justice and press charges.

Indonesian authorities have blamed JI, the Southeast Asian affiliate of al-Qaeda, for carrying out a series of deadly attacks in the country in the early 2000s. These included the October 2002 bombings on two nightclubs on Bali Island that killed 202 people — Indonesia’s deadliest terrorist attack to date.

JI was outlawed in 2008 and has not staged a major attack since 2011, according to authorities.

US seized cargo of ships allegedly carrying Iranian crude — court docs show
[IsraelTimes] The United States has seized the cargo of two oil tankers accused of carrying 700,000 barrels of Iranian crude in violation of US sanctions, court documents show.

Several weeks ago US authorities seized the oil which they said left Iran
...The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan. The abbreviation IRGC is the same idea as Stürmabteilung (or SA). The term Supreme Guide is a the modern version form of either Duce or Führer or maybe both...
in 2020 and was then transferred to other vessels "using surreptitious means to hide the defendant property’s Iranian origin."

The court case was made public only recently, after the oil was resold for between $38 million and $45 million.

The court documents say that an Iranian tanker targeted by US sanctions, called the Stark I, was repainted in October 2020 to escape detection by satellites, took on oil at an Iranian port and set sail.

While at sea the tanker transferred 733,876 barrels of crude to a Panamanian-flagged ship called the M/T Arina. During this risky operation the vessels turned off equipment that broadcasts their location.

Manbij Military Council arrests ISIS cell north Syria

MANBIJ, Syria (North Press) – On Friday, the counter-terrorism units of the Manbij Military Council, affiliated with Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), arrested members of an ISIS sleeper cell in Manbij region, northern Syria.

The arrest came after extensive monitoring and follow-up that ended with the arrest of all the cell members, the media center of the Manbij Military Council said.

The initial confessions, as published by the center, indicate that the so-called Jihad Jamal Hamidi, nicknamed Azzam, is one of the leaders of an ISIS sleeper cell in Manbij and was residing in the city of Jarablus before he was sent to Manbij by the Turkish intelligence.

The mission of the so-called Azzam was to carry out terrorist operations in the city of Manbij, the latest of which was the detonation of an explosive device at al-Shuhada’ Roundabout (al-Matahen), according to the center.

Four civilians, including two children, lost their lives in a mine explosion in the city of Manbij, north Syria, on October 2021.

During the raid on Aleppo Road near Mankush swimming pool, a factory for making of explosive devices was found, in addition to a Kalashnikov weapon, 19 detonation circuits, two detonators, in addition to equipment for the manufacture of explosive devices.

On February 5, with help of the Internal Security Forces of North and East Syria (Asayish), the counter-terrorism units of the Manbij Military Council, arrested cells affiliated with ISIS in the city of Manbij.
