So, the National Guard gets used to get past local government not being willing to pay reasonable money for labor. Sounds like forced labor to me.
(Although, I can see driving a school bus of middle schoolers as a combat deployment.)

I just want a couple DIs on the bus too. Watch those brats cry.
[AmericaDigest] Every so often in moving around Chico I wade hip-deep through the swamp of moonbats that any California college automatically generates around itself.
Down at the Saturday Farmers Market, there have been the inevitable moonbat card tables of their communist causes. One of them is staffed by insane people who want to convert others into their strange “Contrails are killing us” conspiracy church. They are easy to bypass.
Not so the “Stop the Republicans’ Power Grab” table manned by some of the worst socialist nomenklatura in town. Last Saturday they had one of their bipedal insects standing in front of the entrance willing to tell anyone how wonderful Gavin Newsom really is. He’d tell you this as the smoke sodden stench of a burned to the bone California blooms in the wind.
He stopped me and started to blather. I needed to buy a loaf of bread and some fresh peaches before spending an hour at the range and had no time for moonbats. I held up a hand in a brief pause in his blather, looked into his eyes, and said (I don’t know why),

Case #987: You don't need an ID to vote, but....
[Gun & Garden] Mercy Chefs has been preparing 20,000 meals a day in storm-ravaged communities.
On Tuesday, there was still an hour and a half until lunchtime, and cars were already lining up in a parking lot off Airline Drive in Metairie, Louisiana, as locals waited patiently for a hot meal made and served by the Virginia-based nonprofit Mercy Chefs. "It’s been insane," says Gary LeBlanc, the organization’s founder and CEO. "We’ve been serving about 20,000 meals a day for the last week, and every day we add another five hundred somehow." Between its thirteen mobile kitchens across the state in communities such as Hammond, LaPlace, Houma, Golden Meadow, Raceland, and Larose, the organization served 21,403 plates on Monday, topping the record-setting 18,000 meals served in a single day after Hurricane Sandy in 2012.
[Just The News] Proposed new regulation would transfer authority to decide claims from immigration judges to asylum officers while tripling potential appeal opportunities.
The Biden administration is proposing changes to the asylum process that critics contend would — in the name of administrative efficiency — circumvent current immigration law and sharply increase the numbers of illegal immigrants granted asylum, even as the U.S. is on track to receive more than two million illegal immigrants this year.

The changes are considered "a key step toward implementing the administration's blueprint for a fair, orderly, and humane immigration system," the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) said in a statement.

Dictators have no need of a congress or a constitution. Loyal administration agencies who will dutifully respond to directives are all that is needed. The recent OSHA vaccination mandate is an example.
If the OSHA mandate is successful, there will likely be other OSHA 'health and safety' mandates. Can you possibly hazzard a guess as to which US Constitutional Ammendment might be targeted ?
[Red State] The Biden administration has just announced they will be cutting a check for $64 million in "humanitarian aid" to Afghanistan through USAID and Samantha Power.
Supposedly, this aid will go through the UN and NGOs, not through the "government"/Taliban or whoever is currently in control. Here’s Secretary of State Antony Blinken talking about it during his hearing on Zoom with Congress today.
Sorry, but I don’t trust the UN, and who knows who is in charge of some of the NGOs, so even if the money went to those folks, that it wouldn’t end up in the pockets of the Taliban, by force or by design.
Rep. Scott Perry (R-PA) questioned Blinken on this earlier today, making the point that they can’t guarantee where that money is going
...money being fungible...
— just like they gave aid to Pakistan while that country was helping the Taliban.
[Breitbart] A report from Austin notes the State of Texas may begin construction of its own border wall later this week. The report states that the Texas Facilities Commission is awaiting approval from commissioners to award contracts.
Four companies expressed interest with the commission to build border barriers in areas recently determined to be eligible for construction, the Washington Examiner reported on Monday. Texas officials reportedly identified 733 miles of “border-front land where it can build.”
The article says the State picked land that is privately owned by residents where it can build while avoiding litigation. Efforts by the Trump administration to build on federal land met opposition from multiple lawsuits.
In an exclusive interview with Breitbart Texas in June, Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced he would begin raising funds for Texas to build its own border wall. Abbott said Texas would immediately begin construction of border barriers in areas like Del Rio where migrants can easily cross unsecured sections. The governor picked Del Rio as the location for his announcement due to the massive increases in illegal border crossings in this region.
Since that time, the State of Texas raised more than $54 million in private donations to build new border barriers in the Lone Star State.
The governor also announced the deployment of additional law enforcement resources and promised to arrest migrants who violated Texas laws including trespassing, and criminal mischief.
The Texas Legislature recently passed $1.8 billion in additional funding for the purposes of building border walls and other physical barriers, the Washington Examiner reported. The 1,250 miles of Texas-Mexico border currently only has 150 miles of physical barrier in place, the article continues.
[Breitbart] Putian city in southeastern China’s Fujian province sealed off more than half of its highway entry and exit points on Sunday as part of an effort by municipal authorities to contain a new, local outbreak of the Chinese coronavirus, Reuters reported on Monday.
“Among a total of 20 highway entries and exits in the city, 12 have barred vehicles from entering or leaving,” according to the news agency.
Municipal authorities barred all 3.2 million residents of Putian from leaving the city starting September 12 except for reasons deemed “essential” by local government officials.
“In principle those in Putian should not leave the city and those who must leave must hold a negative nucleic acid certificate taken within 48 hours,” Putian’s anti-epidemic group stated in a September 12 press release.
Putian health officials first detected the city’s latest coronavirus outbreak on September 10 in a few school children who live and study in Xianyou, a county within the municipal region of Putian that is home to 900,000 people.

What about the "Tex-Mex" units at the Alamo and the Battle of San Jacinto? Don't they get any respect?
It is important to remember that when Santa Ana took over Mexico, 9 provinces rose in rebellion. He defeated 8 of them. Texes was originally planning to unite with Nuevo Leon and form a new country. Unfortunately the forces of Nuevo Leon were defeated before they could join the Texans.
[Arutz 7] - A gang of Arab rioters attacked a tent of medical staff carrying out coronavirus tests in the city of Tayibeh Monday evening.
The rioters launched fireworks at the crew who were forced to take shelter themselves inside the testing compound. Police are currently searching for the perpetrators. Why does this sounds familiar?
[PJ] Old Joe Biden’s handlers are bringing 94,000 Afghan evacuees into the United States, at the cost of $6.4 billion of your money. The overall cost, however, may end up being even higher than that, and even the establishment media’s most committed far-Left propaganda organs are noticing. The Washington Post reported Tuesday that "[t]he mass arrival of Afghan evacuees last month, many in need of medical care, wreaked havoc on Northern Virginia’s hospital system — prompting a regional emergency response group to assume oversight after one hospital became overwhelmed with patients and federal officials lost track of where some Afghans were hospitalized, officials said."
This has involved the denial of care to Americans: "a hospital near the Dulles Expo Center that federal officials designated as a go-to spot for medical treatment began running out of available beds, forcing the hospital to turn away non-Afghan patients who weren’t in need of critical care, said Nickerson, who also directs the Northern Virginia Hospital Alliance and declined to name the hospital."
Here in a nutshell is the America-Last policy of Biden’s handlers: America’s infrastructure is crumbling, there are many people in need right here, working Americans are laboring under a tax burden that is already crushing and is about to get worse, and, as all this is going on, migrants are given priority over Americans for medical care and the American taxpayer is expected to foot the bill. "Area leaders have been asking the Biden administration to pay for the mounting cost of keeping track of the hospitalized evacuees and for giving them rides back to the Dulles Expo Center — where they have been temporarily housed — after a federal contractor took hours to retrieve some of the evacuees who were ready to be discharged." In that sentence, "Biden administration" means hardworking Americans who have jobs and work hard to support their families while also paying for the resettlement and heathcare of Afghan evacuees, among whom is an unknowable number of jihad terrorists.

But - hospitals under pressure from covid patients, because nobody is getting vaxxed. Hospitals pressured because nurses quitting or fired for failure to take the vax. Immigrants not vaxxed, probably because ... the hospitals can't take the pressure? Same for Afghans unvaxxed?

Do you get the feeling that American medicine is now failing as badly as American education, the American military, and American foreign policy?
As of a month ago, 1.8 million Afghans have been vaccinated against Covid out of a total population of around 39 million, according to Tolo News at the time. But the odds are good our refugee Afghans haven’t been vaccinated against anything, including polio.

But many J.&J. recipients are less interested in receiving a second J.&J. shot than a follow-up shot with either the Moderna or Pfizer vaccine. They know that J.&J. seems less effective than other vaccines, and some J.&J. recipients have been frightened by reports of a very rare but serious blood clot.
Notably, numerous doctors and some prominent experts who themselves received the J.&J. vaccine have chosen to receive a follow-up Moderna or Pfizer vaccine. The list includes Bill Enright, a biotechnology C.E.O.; Zoë McLaren, a health economist; and Angela Rasmussen, a prominent virologist. The city of San Francisco also began offering a Moderna or Pfizer booster shot to J.&J. recipients about a month ago...
During a podcast interview this summer, Dr. Rochelle Walensky, the director of the C.D.C., declined to discourage J.&J. recipients from seeking out a Moderna or Pfizer shot. She said there was not enough data to be sure about the benefits and risks. But when Andy Slavitt, the podcast host and a former Biden adviser, asked her whether she would describe it as a "huge mistake," Walensky replied, "Not with what I’ve seen so far."
From the head of a notoriously cautious agency, that was a remarkable and telling statement. mRNA vaccines are, probably, the safest (and most effective - due to gradual release of antigen) vaccines ever produced.

^Jeez MM, you take booster 6 months after the initial - by that time there isn't even a memory of the original shot left (that's why you need a booster)
#7
g(R) it is not the same mrna. J&J uses a weakened virus to deliver the antigen. The others use a synthetic uricil which doesn't get cut apart by the normal enzymes that degrade natural mrna.
#9
rammer, rammer, rammer.
J&J has an "artificial" virus containing Covid spike protein's mRNA.
mRNA vaccines do the same thing via lipid vesicle
(with proteins that mediate non-destructive entry of these vesicles into cells).
Now, just think - if it was different RNA, then it would result in different protein = different immune response.
Think of it as delivering the same type of cargo by train or by truck.
#10
So grom, having had covid and then 5 months later the J&J vaccine, what is the procedure? Start over with Pfizer series, take Pfizer booster, (is there a J&J booster?), I don't know.
#11
no, g(r) the mrna in the vaccines is a synthetic uricil. Your body has a dozen enzymes to degrade mrna in your extracellular spaces. These mrna vaccines deliberately change the uricil to be indestructible in your body. It makes the same protein, but it doesn't degrade like your body would otherwise destroy it.
We have evolved to destroy extracellular mrna. That was for a reason, and highly conserved.
one of the largest supermarket chains in the United States, warned grocery prices are about to become even higher this year as inflation sets in.
Inflation is running hotter than previously anticipated, and prices are slated to rise an additional 2 to 3 percent over the second half of 2021, Kroger CFO Gary Millerchip said during a call with reporters.
Kroger will be "passing along higher cost to the customer where it makes sense to do so," he said on Sept. 10.
The comment comes as the price for beef, poultry, and pork have risen at grocery stores in recent months, leading White House officials to blame meat processing companies.
"Just four large conglomerates control the majority of the market for each of these three products [beef, pork and poultry], and the data show that these companies have been raising prices while generating record profits during the pandemic," said National Economic Council Director Brian Deese at a press briefing on Sept. 8.
"Those companies have seen record or near-record profits in the first half of this year," Deese said, taking aim at JBS, Tyson Foods, Cargill Meat Solutions Corp., and the National Beef Packing Company. "And that has coincided with a period where we’ve seen disproportionate increase in prices in those segments."
Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack claimed that some food companies may be price-gouging, although he noted that labor and transportation costs have risen since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
1.) Halting/Restricting US Oil production naturally causes Higher fuel prices. Higher fuel prices cause delivery costs to increase.
2.) Doubling Min Wage increases labor coss across the whole commercial food industry.
3.) Massive DEFICIT spending decreases the buying power for imported goods, thus raising costs.
A bonus answer... Logic says if you export massive amounts of anything, it reduces local inventories and availability. So even if local demand remains the same, it results in shortages and prices increases.
#2
..all yes, but it also allows for (Soviet Central Planning) price controls. What politician doesn't want that? If you want to control every aspect of the proles lives, it's a given (along with shortages, black markets, et al).

I am sure many foresaw the supply and logistical issues around the politically induced Scamdemic.
I am sure many decided to err on the side of caution and have been purchasing an extra week of canned goods every a month. Likely many started last year and got canned foods with best by dates of 2+ years out. To tide themselves over to the next election, when the USA has a very carefully monitored election against the Socialist-Democrats that clearly stole the last one.

[EN.ALGHADEERTV.NET] US President Joe The Big Guy Biden ...46th president of the U.S. We get to suffer the consequences. So does Afghanistan, aka Biden's Bungle... has approved a disaster declaration for Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party, and will travel to Sacramento on Monday to survey the damage from recent wildfires, the White House said on Sunday.
More than 6,800 wildfires large and small have blackened an estimated 1.7 million acres (689,000 hectares) within California alone this season, stretching available firefighting forces and equipment dangerously thin.
The blazes have been stoked by extremely hot, dry conditions that experts say are symptomatic of climate change during a summer fire season shaping up as one of the most destructive on record.
"President Joseph R. Biden, Jr. declared that a major disaster exists in the State of California and ordered Federal assistance to supplement State, tribal, and local recovery efforts in the areas affected by the Caldor Fire beginning on August 14, 2021, and continuing", the White House said late on Sunday.
Biden said last week that wildfires, hurricanes, and floods were hitting every part of the United States, with more than 100 million Americans affected this summer alone, as he pressed for investments to boost infrastructure and fight global warming.
Biden made fighting climate change a key plank of his 2020 presidential campaign and a top priority of his administration, but some of his goals rely on getting the US Congress to pass multitrillion-dollar legislation on infrastructure and other priorities.
This month, Biden declared an emergency in California and ordered federal assistance to boost responders’ efforts to battle the Caldor fire.
"Additional designations may be made at a later date if requested by the State and warranted by the results of further damage assessments", the White House said on Sunday.
The Caldor fire, burning since mid-August, is 65 percent contained. It has led to 5 injuries and damaged 81 residential, commercial, and other structures while destroying over a thousand such structures, according to authorities.
Southwesterly winds are forecast through most of the coming week which could fan the growth of fires in the West Zone, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (Cal Fire) said late on Sunday.

[Breitbart] A new book released Monday indicates Biden family corruption schemes sought to enrich son Hunter and brother Jim Biden while Joe Biden was the ranking member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
Author of The Bidens: Inside the First Family’s Fifty-Year Rise to Power, Ben Schreckinger, was told by one of Jim’s former business partners, "Jim’s job is to ensure the lifestyle is good for the family." The method of doing so reportedly entailed Hunter and Jim acquiring a hedge fund, Paradigm Global Advisors, which was founded and run by cocaine addict James Park.
"Jim and Hunter offered to buy the firm out for $21 million," an offer inspired by Joe Biden’s plan to run for the Democrat "presidential nomination, and his son’s work for a Washington lobbying firm would be a problem." Hunter was at that time employed at a lobbying firm that would present a conflict of interest for Joe Biden’s campaign.
"Hunter would have his new job, CEO of Paradigm, with a starting salary of $1.2 million," Schreckinger wrote in the New York Post. "His experience in the financial sector amounted to a few years on the payroll of a credit-card issuer." Son of The senator From MBNA™
The position as a hedge fund manager reportedly enabled the Biden family to "tap the global demand for business partnerships with the relatives of a powerful American official," Joe Biden.
In order to capitalize on the hedge fund with cash to make profitable acquisitions, Jim reportedly told one of his partners, Anthony Lotito, that he should not worry over raising money.
"Don’t worry about investors," Jim reportedly told Lotito. "We’ve got people all around the world who want to invest in Joe Biden." "We’ve got investors lined up in a line of 747s filled with cash ready to invest in this company," Jim reportedly added.
...
The hedge fund was still unsuccessful, despite the appearances Joe Biden helped create to encourage investments, for example, by sending firefighters who wanted to invest, literally into the firm. Ultimately, "Paradigm’s executives searched in vain to find an overseas bank or other foreign buyer to take the business off their hands, including in the banking haven of Switzerland."
In the end, no entity would buy the fund from the Biden family, ending the hedge fund’s hopes of success. Not only greedy and corrupt but stupid too.
[OneIndia] With the Afghanistan situation remaining fragile and the Indian Intelligence agencies warning of a possible security risks, the border forces under the counter terror grid will train under a new module.
With officials stating that the situation could be very fragile along the border a new module would be prepared. This would largely focus on border strategy and wading off terror strikes.
The new module would comprise training, combat techniques with intelligence. The module would closely watch the activities of the Taliban ...Arabic for students... and the techniques the group of the terror modules they support would adopt.
While the Taliban has made it clear that it would not interfere in Kashmir ...a disputed territory lying between India and Pakistain. After partition, the Paks grabbed half of it and call it Azad (Free) Kashmir. The remainder they refer to as "Indian Occupied Kashmir". They have fought four wars with India over it, the score currently 4-0 in New Delhi's favor. After 72 years of this nonsense, India cut the Gordian knot in 2019, removing the area's special status, breaking off Ladakh as a separate state, and allowing people from other areas to settle (or in the case of the Pandits, to resettle) there.... , there is very possibility that it may allow its soil to be used by groups such as the Lashkar-e-Tayiba or Jaish-e-Mohammad ...literally Army of Mohammad, a Pak-based Deobandi terror group founded by Maulana Masood Azhar in 2000, after he split with the Harkat-ul-Mujaheddin. In 2002 the government of Pervez Musharraf banned the group, which changed its name to Khaddam ul-Islam and continued doing what it had been doing before without missing a beat... to launch attacks in India.
This comes in the backdrop of much awaited National Intelligence Grid seeing the light of the day. The NATGRID would soon be launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The NATGRID would provide the security agencies cutting edge technology, which in turn would enhance India's counter terrorism capabilities.
The NATGRID has been in the works for sometime now. Union Home Minister, Amit Shah during the 51st Foundation Day event of the Bureau of Police Research and Development held on September 4 said that NATGRID would have been dedicated to the country. However the COVID-19 pandemic delayed the same, he also said. He further added that the NATGRID would be a seamless and secure database for information on bully boyz and economic crimes and this would see the light of the day very soon.
In the first phase, 10 agencies and 21 service providers will be connected to NATGRID. In the later phases at least 1,000 organizations will be added. The agencies that would be added in the first phase would be the Central Bureau of Investigation, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence, the Enforcement Directorate, the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs, the Central Board of Direct Taxes (for the Income Tax Department), the Cabinet Secretariat, the Intelligence Bureau, the Directorate General of GST Intelligence, the Narcotics Control Bureau, the Financial Intelligence Unit, and the National Investigation Agency.
Experts who OneIndia spoke with say that one of the key aspects of NATGRID would be that it would wipe out cock and bull intelligence. The Intelligence agencies gets thousands of intercepts every day, but the question is whether all of it is actionable or not. There is also the other issue of dealing with cock and bull intelligence, which is deliberately put out by terror groups to confuse the agencies.
The new module would comprise training, combat techniques with intelligence. The module would closely watch the activities of the Taliban and the techniques the group of the terror modules they support would adopt.
[AresTechnica] The leader of Russia's space program is desperate to have Elon Musk visit him. On multiple occasions, Dmitry Rogozin has invited the founder of SpaceX to come to Kazakhstan for the October 5 launch of the Soyuz MS-19 spacecraft carrying three Russians to the International Space Station.
More recently, during an interview on CNN, Rogozin gained a fair amount of publicity when he invited Musk to visit his home in Russia.
"We respect him as an organizer of the space industry and as an inventor who is not afraid to take risks," Rogozin said. Musk was welcomed "to be a guest of my family" and discuss "exploring the universe, extraterrestrial life, and how we can use space to preserve life on Earth."
"I already set the teakettle on heat," he added.
In a response on Twitter, Musk was noncommittal. It is a fool's errand to try to predict the actions of Elon Musk, but given his understandable security concerns, it's difficult to see the billionaire visiting Rogozin in Russia or attending the launch in Kazakhstan.
One might even read an ominous intent in Rogozin's invitation. The "teakettle" comment recalls the poisoning of Alexander Litvinenko, a former KGB officer who in 2000 fled to the United Kingdom after becoming critical of Vladimir Putin's rise to power. Six years after leaving Russia, Litvinenko was poisoned by drinking tea laced with polonium. He died three weeks later, and Western intelligence services eventually concluded that the poisoning was conducted by Russian agents acting under the approval of Putin.
So Musk is probably not going to Russia. And he is probably not going to drink tea with Dmitry Rogozin. But it's nonetheless worthwhile to try to understand Rogozin's motivations for reaching out to Musk in this way.
[IsraelTimes] The leader of an Illinois anti-government militia group who authorities say criminal masterminded the 2017 bombing of a Minnesota mosque is to be sentenced today for several civil rights and hate crimes in an attack that terrified the local Moslem community.
Emily Claire Hari, who was previously known as Michael Hari and recently said she is transgender, faces a mandatory minimum of 30 years in prison for the attack on Dar al-Farooq Islamic Center in Bloomington. Defense attorneys are asking for the minimum, but prosecutors are seeking a life sentence, saying Hari hasn’t taken responsibility for the attack.
"This bomb — the Defendant’s bomb — was an act of terror intended to destroy the heart of a community," prosecutors wrote in papers asking for a life sentence. While no one was physically hurt, prosecutors wrote, "the Defendant irrevocably destroyed the sense of safety and peace that a house of worship is supposed to provide."
Hari was convicted in December on five counts, including damaging property because of its religious character and obstructing the free exercise of religious beliefs. She did not testify at trial and it was unknown if she would make a statement at sentencing.

B - Let me clue you in - the stunning amount of cheap fentanyl, meth, and heroin pushed into the US from Mexico has a state sponsor...this is asymmetric warfare conducted against us with intent to destabilize just like the Klingons attempted to do to China via Afghan heroin...this is payback.
And the result...the fight is now here in the hills of Tennessee...a war fought by poor white men. A fight that I am in. Not over there - here.
And to all you believers in the one true president Trump...Trump is the reason we have the idiot Biden...you revel in that alternative.

[EN.ALGHADEERTV.NET] Leb ...an Iranian colony situated on the eastern Mediterranean, conveniently adjacent to Israel. Formerly inhabited by hardy Phoenecian traders, its official language is now Arabic, with the usual unpleasant side effects. The Leb civil war, between 1975 and 1990, lasted a little over 145 years and produced 120,000 fatalities. The average length of a ceasefire was measured in seconds. The Lebs maintain a precarious sectarian balance among Shiites, Sunnis, and about a dozeen flavors of Christians. It is the home of Hezbollah, which periodically starts a war with the Zionist Entity, gets Beirut pounded to rubble, and then declares victory and has a parade. The Lebs have the curious habit of periodically murdering their heads of state or prime ministers, a practice dating back to the heady human sacrifice days of Baal Moloch. Trust them on that... ’s new Prime Minister Najib Mikati says he has no "magic wand" to fix the country’s economic and financial crises, following more than a year of political deadlock over the formation of a government.
Mikati made the remark in a statement on Monday, saying he has "no magic wand to rescue the country from one of its worst-ever economic crises," and that it takes determination and a plan to fulfill achieve the hopes of the Lebanese people.

MUST-WATCH: A stray cat at the Miami football game fell from the upper deck and these guys saved it by catching it in an American flag. pic.twitter.com/mx9Q5ayvPP
This film and its trailers was very hard to find because of the translation of the title.
The way the reception by Russian audiences was described to me was outrage; that the Russian takeover was without a shot fired. Other reviews I have read was about praise for the director for keeping the film and its themes simple.
Anyway, the film is translatable, but even a Russian language review said the script was childish.
[Breitbart] Two men in Tunisia set themselves on fire over the past few days to protest living conditions in their country, reprising the event that set the “Arab Spring” uprisings of 2011 in motion.
The Arab Spring began when a 27-year-old street vendor named Mohammed Bouazizi set himself on fire outside the local governor’s office, enraged by the confiscation of his merchandise and callous treatment by regulatory officials. Bouazizi died of his injuries after two weeks in the hospital, galvanizing a popular uprising that eventually drove dictator President Zine al-Abidine Ben Ali from the country after two decades in power.
Tunisia is once again ruled by a dictator, President Kais Saied. Saied won office in 2019 as an outsider crusading against corruption and promising dramatic reforms. In August 2021, he suspended the Tunisian parliament and seized absolute power, supposedly a temporary move while he imposes the most challenging reform policies.
On Saturday, Saied announced he was preparing to amend or nullify the national constitution, although he promised in a live television address that his proposed “amendments” would be enacted through the proper legal “framework.”
Saied’s advisors suggested he plans to impose a new constitution through a national referendum, overruling objections from Tunisia’s political parties. Among other obstacles, Tunisian constitutional law states that amendments can only be put to a referendum after securing approval by two-thirds of parliament, and Tunisia does not have a parliament at the moment.
Last week, a 26-year-old man named Neji Hefiane set himself on fire in front of his family and died in the hospital. The Hefiane family said he suffered gunshot wounds to the head during the early days of the Arab Spring uprising but never received the government aid he was promised, even after his father appealed directly to President Saied.
“It was the injustice and marginalization he suffered that pushed my son to kill himself,” his father said.
“My brother didn’t get anything he was entitled to, neither free healthcare nor a guaranteed job. He asked everywhere but was only met with neglect, including from the president,” Neji’s sister added.
A second man, age 35 but as yet unnamed by Tunisian officials, set himself ablaze on Saturday on a street corner in the heart of Tunis, the national capital. He reportedly tried to get the attention of journalists before dousing himself in flammable liquid and setting himself on fire.
Lawyer Lamia Farhani told AFP that a disturbing number of Tunisians who were injured during the 2011 uprising are “threatening to kill themselves.”
“There is no political will to guarantee [their] basic rights,” said Farhani, who runs a foundation to benefit the “martyrs and wounded” from the Arab Spring.
“The state and all the governments that have come and gone since 2011 are responsible for the state of despair and disgust among these people,” she said.

[EN.ALGHADEERTV.NET] A security source reported that Iraqi forces bombed ISIS between al-Azim borders, north of Diyala, and the Saladin Governorate.
The source told Alghadeer News, "The Iraqi Army monitored, with thermal cameras, ISIS movements between the outskirts of al-Azim near the village of Albu Khayal and the borders of Saladin."
The Army Forces used artillery and medium weapons to attack the Lions of Islam who tried to infiltrate the outskirts of al-Azim without causing any causalities.
Yesterday, a double attack in al-Azim district targeted army security points, killing five of the Army and maimed others.
[THEPOSTMILLENNIAL] Portland residents calling 911 for emergencies are facing a dramatic increase in hold times, with officials saying that the system is "broken."
According to The Oregonian, starting in the late spring, the riot-gripped city has faced a sharp increase in 911 calls placed on hold for two minutes or longer.
The national standard for 911 hold times is 15 to 20 seconds, but according to data from the Portland Bureau of Emergency Communications obtained by The Oregonian, 574 of the 911 calls in the city had to wait on hold for more than five minutes in July. This number is more than double that of May, in which 221 calls waited that long, and is drastically more than the figure in March, when only eight 911 calls took more than five minutes to answer.
Bob Cozzie, director of Portland's Bureau of Emergency Communications, said, "I think it's horrible. There's no other way to state it," in regards to the dramatic jump in wait times. "We're at a tipping point now. It's become unmanageable," he said, acknowledging the delay. "The system is broken."
Cozzie noted that a significant increase in the volume of 911 and non-emergency calls that his department receives, as well as a staffing shortage, were contributing to the hold time increase. "Compared to a year ago, the bureau has experienced a 20 percent to 45 percent increase in 911 calls so far this year depending on the week," wrote The Oregonian. In July, residents made 63,573 calls to 911, representing a 22 percent jump from July of 2020. 911 calls in July 2020 represented only a 2 percent increase over July 2019.
On Sept. 4 during a shootout at a Pearl District restaurant, callers had to wait more than 7.5 minutes before a dispatcher answered.
The increase in both the number of calls to 911, and the longer hold times, comes as the city experiences an increase in homicides.
According to the Portland Police Bureau, between January and July 2021, 52 people have died in homicides in Portland. During the same period last year, just 26 people died as a result of homicides.
The rise in violence also comes as the city faces resignations of a portion of its law enforcement officers amid efforts to defund the police. In June, all officers on the Rapid Response Team, which responds to riots, civil unrest, and protests like many of which that have plagued the city for over a year, resigned from their posts.

[NATION.PK] Joint military drills between Pakistain, The Sick Man of Europe Turkey ...the occupiers of Greek Asia Minor... and Azerbaijan started in Baku on Sunday, the first such drills between the three countries.
The "Three Brothers - 2021" exercises kicked off with a solemn opening ceremony. While national anthems of the participating countries were played and their flags raised, a minute of silence was also observed to commemorate their "deaders".
Speaking at the ceremony, Lt. Gen. Hikmat Mirzayev, Azerbaijan's special forces commander, said he was pleased to see the representatives of Ottoman Turkish and Pak special forces in his country.
"Azerbaijan, Turkey and Pakistain have entered the history of mankind as close friends and brothers. At the heart of these relations is the close ties between our peoples. Evidence of this can be seen in the solidarity and support of Turkey and Pakistain to Azerbaijan from the first day of the 44-day counter-offensive operations launched by Azerbaijan against the Armenian armed forces on Sept. 27, 2020," Azerbaijan's Defense Ministry quoted him as saying.
He was referring to the second Karabakh war, which began last September and ended six weeks later following a Russia-brokered truce in November.
Azerbaijan liberated several cities and some 300 settlements and villages after a nearly three-decade occupation.
"Today, cooperation between our countries in all areas is at the highest level. Important measures are being taken to further strengthen and develop our relations to ensure the region's and peoples' security," Mirzayev said.
He hoped that the exercises, which will be held until Sept. 20, will provide an extensive exchange of experience and views between servicemen of the three countries and will "greatly contribute" to further improvement of the professional training.
The heads of Ottoman Turkish and Pak delegations, Lt. Col. Kursat Konuk and Lt. Col. Aamir Shahzad, said the existing bond of friendship between the nations and armies "would stand the test of time" in a rapidly changing global environment.

[LIBYAREVIEW] On Sunday, the Libyan Public Prosecutor, al-Sadiq al-Sour, announced the arrest of a person, nicknamed "Hajj Hakim" involved in the kidnapping and torture of Egyptian workers in Ajaylat city.In a statement, the Public Prosecutor’s Office explained that the arrested man confessed to kidnapping Egyptian workers, torturing them, and sending their pictures to their families for ransom.
It added that the investigations proved the suspect’s involvement in other criminal practices linked to human trafficking across several countries.
Notably, Libya’s Prosecutor General and his Egyptian counterpart, Hamada el Sawi, in July signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote cooperation between the two countries’ prosecutions.
The MoU is concerned with strengthening cooperation to combat all forms of crimes, especially terrorism, transnational organized crimes, corruption, human trafficking and cybercrimes.
In addition, Libya, in partnership with the European Union ...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing... (EU) and the United Nations ...boodling on the grand scale... (UN), announced the launch of a project entitled "dismantling human trafficking and migrant criminal networks in North Africa".
Funded by the EU, through the EU Trust Fund for Africa (EUTF), and implemented by United Nations Office on Drugs and Crimes (UNODC), it aims at strengthening the capacities of Libyan authorities to prevent all forms of organized crime, including human trafficking and migrant smuggling.
Libya has been plagued by corruption and turmoil since a NATO ...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. A collection of multinational and multilingual and multicultural armed forces, all of differing capabilities, working toward a common goal by pulling in different directions... -backed uprising toppled and killed longtime leader Muammar Qadaffy ...who single-handedly turned a moderately prosperous kingdom into a dictator's fantasyland and was then murdered by his indignant subjects 42 years later... in 2011.
It was split into two administrations. One in the West, including Tripoli ...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn... , is ruled by the Government of National Accord (GNA), while the East-based government is supported by powerful military commander of the Libyan National Army (LNA), Khalifa Hafter.
Oil-rich Libya has emerged as a major conduit for people from Africa and the Middle East fleeing wars and poverty and hoping to reach Europe.
Human rights groups say that migrants colonists in Libya face widespread violence and abuse.

So the Republicans have already voted in the system. But, hey, you can have a provisional ballot, which, if approved by your Dem-controlled local authorities, can be accepted, but since your ballot's already in, it's just negating this one, so it's like you never voted either way. Really slick.
[BIZPACREVIEW]Reports of voting issues are coming out of Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party, in advance of Tuesday’s special recall election when the fate of embattled Governor Gavin can't be Bee'd Newsom ...the Mitt Romneyesque mayor of San Francisco as it transformed itself into Poopville, currently governor of California as it transforms itself into Cinderland... will be decided, leading to confusion and suspicion among some voters.
According to a local news report, residents who went to cast their votes at a Woodland Hills high school were shocked when they were told that they had already voted according to computers.
The problems occurred at an early voting site at El Camino Real Charter High School where several people were informed by staffers that they wouldn’t be able to cast their ballots and were given provisional ballots instead.
Those who were turned away appear to have one thing in common — they are Republicans.
KTLA reports that something "wonky" may be going on in the San Fernando Valley.
Estelle Bender, an 88-year-old West Hills resident told a news hound, "I got there at 10:30, gave her this and she scanned it, and said you voted."
"I said, no I haven’t, and she said this has been happening all morning. The man next to me was arguing the same thing," she said.
She added, "So as I left — I did the provisional ballot — I was really angry, and I saw two women walking toward me as I left and I said don’t be surprised if they tell you you’ve already voted, and she said, they’ve already done that."
When asked by the news hound who she voted for, Bender responded, "well I asked the couple, the young women who I talked to and I said, are you by any chance Republicans?"
"She said yes, and I said so am I, and so are the two friends who had the problem at VFW," she said.
Some Twitter users smelled a rat.
The Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder responded: "The voters who experienced this issue were offered and provided a provisional ballot — the failsafe option to ensure no one is turned away from voting. Provisional ballots are regular ballots and once the eligibility of the voter is verified, they are processed and counted. After troubleshooting the issue, the equipment at the locations was replaced and voting continued."
Republicans have good reason to be skeptical following the controversy over the 2020 presidential election, one that former President Donald J. Trump continues to contend was rigged, and if there are more voting problems in California, public faith in fair elections will almost certainly be adversely affected.
Governor Newsom is pulling out all the stops as he fights for his political life in an election that is too close to call and will be bringing in President Joe The Big Guy Biden ...46th president of the U.S., father of Hunter. He blames Trump for losing Afghanistan.... hoping that he will be able to close the deal with the party faithful.

the mail in ballots were sent to voters in June
it is possible that Bender, age 88, voted by mail and forgot that she had done it
also possible that someone intercepted the mail in ballot and voted for her
I'm not sure if CA requires a drivers license or similar ID with the mail in ballot

Any guess who they already voted for?
The problem wasn't that these people 'already voted'. But that they were informed that they had. I suspect elsewhere the 'second vote' would be simply ignored. It's not like they have a chain of custody or anything.

Security services foil large terror attack in #Israel today, @MaarivOnline reports; gag order issued to prevent publication of any details for now (this suggests that investigation is still ongoing and possibly hunt for terrorists or associates)
[Daily Mail, Where America Gets Its News] The Taliban ...mindless ferocity in a turban... is carrying out reprisal attacks against former soldiers and government workers, the UN has been told - as video emerged showing Islamist fighters forcing young men into car boots in the capital Kabul.
So in addition to the round-up in Panjshir. And probably elsewhere as well.
Michelle Bachelet, speaking at the Human Rights Council on Monday, said she has seen 'credible reports' that Taliban fighters are searching house-to-house to track down anyone who helped the former government or US.
'Officials who worked for previous administrations and their family members [are] being arbitrarily detained,' she said. 'In some cases, the officials were released, and in others, they were found dead.'
As she spoke, footage appeared online showing men - some of whom appear to be Taliban fighters - forcing at least four men into car boots.
According to Iran ...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan. The abbreviation IRGC is the same idea as Stürmabteilung (or SA). The term Supreme Guide is a the modern version form of either Duce or Führer or maybe both. They hate JewsZionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol... International correspondent Tajuden Soroush, the footage was filmed in the Salang Wat district of Kabul and the men are ethnic Panjshiris.
The Panjshiris have a long history of fighting against the Taliban, and are one of several Tajik minorities who are frequently persecuted by the group.
It is unclear exactly why these young men were being detained, but it comes just after the Taliban claimed to have conquered the Panjshir Valley - where an alliance of warlords was holding out against Islamist rule.
UN staffers have also reported increasing attacks and threats, she added, without providing specifics.
Ms Bachelet also highlighted 'deeply troubling information' about Taliban raids on offices of some advocacy groups.
'In contradiction to assurances that the Taliban would uphold women's rights, over the past three weeks women have instead been progressively excluded from the public sphere,' she told the 47-member council as it opened its autumn session.
She said girls aged over 12 have been barred from attending school in some places in Afghanistan, and Women's Affairs departments had been at times dismantled.
The Taliban has publicly insisted that its rule of Afghanistan will be more moderate than it was during the 1990s, when its brutal interpretation of Sharia law saw women stripped of their rights along with public floggings and executions.

If you have a sense they don't like you any longer, go ahead and take the buyout. I always take the buyout. Fok the cake. Leave quietly without fanfare. As Lot instructed, never look back.
From the article:
[MeaningInHistory] Now, every epidemiologist who can locate his own ass using the reliable both-hands method knows this methodology is fundamentally flawed, because the PCR test was never developed for this purpose and can’t give you the answers you’re looking for with real reliability.
You should absolutely NOT be testing anyone who is asymptomatic. What you end up with is a “casedemic”--which is good enough for government work if you can relabel it as an epi- or--even better--a pandemic. The same dynamic--counting every positive test result as an actual “case” of infection--is also at work when it comes to tabulating Covid deaths: dies with as opposed to dies from.
The bottom line is that we have had, for the better part of two years, an enormous number of people being hospitalized who probably should not have been hospitalized--or, at least, not for Covid. The reasons for this--which Zweig avoids discussing--are likely a witch’s brew of financial incentives enabled by the very dodgy use of a totally inappropriate test as a “diagnostic” tool. Stress and pressure every day. Loss of prestige, money and power. Most people have tuned them out. Going about their lives as best as they can. Trying to be positive in a negative environment. And there you have it, kids, the reason all computer programming languages suck. To be mathematically describable (and thus compileable) a computer language has to be so boringly explicit that it's basically an intellectual straitjacket. Really good programmers are the ones that can re-inject the inflection and nuance that language normalization and description boil off. That's why the best programs are impenetrable without * drum roll * good human comments.
Hopefully, we will get to clever and perceptive AIs that can sit and do back and forth with really smart programmers to do really great sh*t. None of it will be done by someone using a calculator like a vibrator.

[MilRu] During the drawing of practical actions of troops (forces) of the main stage of the joint strategic exercise (JSE) Zapad-2021 at the Mulino training ground in the Nizhny Novgorod region, the latest B-19 infantry fighting vehicles with the Epokha combat module provided fire support to the defending units of the coalition group of troops on the main defensive line.
The armored group consisting of a BMP B-19 platoon was put into battle with the exit of the main forces of the conditional enemy to the front edge of the defense of the units of the military contingents of the armed forces of Belarus, India, Mongolia and Russia in order to increase the activity and stability of the defense during the conduct of hostilities for the retention of important borders, positions and areas.
The latest B-19 combat vehicle with the Epokha combat module is equipped with a 57-mm automatic cannon, Kornet launchers and a new Bulat guided missile system with small-sized missiles to destroy firing points and lightly armored enemy equipment.
A special feature of the information and control system of the armament of the combat module "Epokha" is the presence of a system for automated search, recognition of enemy objects, their support, preparation and issuance to the crew of the combat vehicle of proposals for the simultaneous or alternate use of two channels of fire damage.

Another forced companies with over 100 employees to require vaccination or ask workers to take a Covid test once a week

[JPost] The incident followed just hours after terrorist attempted to stab soldiers at Gush Etzion junction.
Two Israeli men were moderately injured in a stabbing attack at a store next to the Jerusalem Central Bus Station in Jerusalem on Monday. Two female Border Police patrol officers at the scene shot and wounded the terrorist.
The attacker was identified as 17-year-old Basil Shawamra from the village of Deir al-Asal al-Fauqa near Hebron in the southern West Bank. Two additional suspects were detained.
“We will continue to act resolutely against any attempt to harm Israeli citizens,” said Defense Minister Benny Gantz after the attack. “The vigilance and rapid and professional action of the forces on the ground prevented a much more severe result.”
The victims were evacuated to Shaare Zedek Medical Center where doctors said they were conscious and stable.
The attacker underwent surgery at Shaare Zedek after resuscitation attempts.
IDF soldiers thwarted a terrorist attack earlier in the day at the Gush Etzion junction.
The attack came just hours after an attempted stabbing attack at the Gush Etzion junction, in which IDF soldiers stopped a terrorist who attempted to stab them. That attacker was also taken to Shaare Zedek Medical Center with gunshot wounds to his hand. No soldiers were injured in the attack.
[EN.ALGHADEERTV.NET] Nearly 70 students who were kidnapped from their school in northern Nigeria have regained their freedom after two weeks in captivity, Zamfara state Gov. Bello Matawalle said Monday. The students from the Government Day Secondary School were rescued with the help of some of the button men who had repented, he said. They were reunited with their families late Sunday.
Heavily gunnies had descended on the school on Sept. 1, the latest attack in a wave of school kidnappings in northern Nigeria that prompted the government to shut down all primary and secondary schools in Zamfara state.
Police have said that 73 students were kidnapped and that five were rescued a day later.
According to UNICEF, Nigeria has seen at least 10 abductions over the past year in which 1,436 students have been taken. About 200 students are still being held and 16 children have died in the attacks. School kidnappings have taken place in nine different states, and targets have included everyone from preschoolers to university students.
Authorities have blamed the abductions on bandidos who are believed to be motivated by the ransoms paid for the children’s release. However, Caliphornia hasn't yet slid into the ocean, no matter how hard it's tried... some students held by the bandidos have said they also have been threatened to not return to school when they are freed.
That has raised fears that they may be linked in some way to the Islamic Death Eater group Boko Haram ...not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality... , whose name in the Hausa language translates as "Western education is forbidden."

[FoxBusiness] Americans' inflation fears hit another record in August as the price of consumer goods continued to surge, according to a Federal Reserve Bank of New York survey published Monday.
The median expectation is that the inflation rate will be up 5.2% one year from now, the 10th monthly consecutive increase and another new high for the gauge, and up 4% three years from now, the highest level since August 2013, according to the New York Federal Reserve's Survey of Consumer Expectations. In a few months we might be calling for Sec of Treasury Yellin's resignation. Actually we should be doing so already. You know the Fed was established to end the cycle of crashes in the 19th century. Since then they've sat over a couple depressions (per the 1930's metrics) and several crashes (to include the one about to come). Put it on the block of agencies and departments to cut when we get around to the 2d republic.

Around here the biggest price increases are for housing, as people flee the Dallas Metroplex. Also cars (& trucks), new or used. Other stuff is up, of course, but not shockingly.

[ToloNews] The Ministry of Higher Education announced on Sunday that some subjects which contrast with Islam's Sharia will be dropped from the higher education curriculum.
It comes as private universities and other higher education institutions reopened about a week ago in which classes were divided by gender.
Acting Minister of Higher Education Sheikh Abdul Baqi Haqqani
...formally Abdul Baqi Haqqani Bashir Mohammad. Born about 1961 in Jalalabad, during the first Talib emirate he served as governor of Khost and Paktika provinces and vice-minister of Information & Culture, and worked in the Foreign Affairs ministry. Following the fall of the Talib government he was sanctioned by the EU, which isn’t nearly as impressive as the American sanctions earnt by some of the more eminent Haqqanis...
said on Sunday that mixed classes between girls and boys are not acceptable and some changes will be brought to the curriculum.
He said changes will be based on Islamic Sharia.
Abdul Baqi said at a presser: "When the preparation ends, the date will be announced (date for opening government universities) and it will take less than a week."
"Each subject that is against Islamic laws will be removed," he said.
Meanwhile, ...back at the the conspirators' cleverly concealed hideout the long-awaited message arrived. They quickly got to work with their decoder rings... university students have raised concerns over the current state of education in the country.
Abdul Rahim, a student, told TOLOnews: " Teachers and students are not present. A small number of students are coming to the universities. We are worried about our future."
"There is no interest. Neither students nor teachers come," said Farshid, another student.
The ministry added that it will launch a program to send students abroad for higher education in the future.
[BREITBART] Launching her bid for the 2022 presidential election in La Belle France, right-wing populist candidate Marine Le Pen promised to return liberty to La Belle France from President Emmanuel Macron’s draconian coronavirus (aka COVID19 or Chinese Plague) ...the twenty first century equivalent of bubonic plague, only instead of killing off a third of the population of Europe it kills 3.4 percent of those who notice they have it. It seems to be fond of the elderly, especially Iranian politicians and holy men... measures and to crack down on the "Taliban ...Arabic for students... ised" areas of La Belle France.
Marine Le Pen, who stepped aside as the leader of the National Rally party on Sunday in favour of her 26-year-old deputy Jordan Bardella in order to focus fully on her presidential campaign, cast the upcoming election as a civilisational choice for La Belle France.
"There will only be two alternatives: either the dilution of La Belle France or the salutary leap that will bring La Belle France into the third millennium around the idea of the nation," Le Pen said in a speech in the southern city of Frejus.
Picking up on the central theme of her political career, Le Pen vowed to crack down the ills of mass migration, which she said has created narco cities and "Talibanised zones" in parts of the country.
"No one will be able to prohibit the French republic from the reconquest of neighbourhoods that our opponents have resigned themselves to consider lost," she said.
Le Pen said that she will "eradicate" Islamists and "mafias" from French neighbourhoods, saying: "In La Belle France, the French have the right to live like french people," promising to put "delinquents in prison and foreigners on the plane."
The populist candidate also took aim at President Emmanuel Macron’s imposition of a vaccine passport in La Belle France, highlighting the nine straight weeks of protests throughout the country against the measure.
She said that the pass sanitaire is an "attack" on freedom and an "infringement of the equality of French when some undergo a truely unjustified social ban."
"We are not against vaccination but for vaccine freedom, everyone should have the freedom to choose in conscience and responsibility to vaccinate or not," Le Pen said.

The program — not the first to imagine mammoth 'de-extinction' — is being pitched as a way to help conserve Asian elephants by tweaking them to suit life in the Arctic.
The team also claimed that introducing the hybrids into the Arctic steppe might help restore the degraded habitat and fight some of the impacts of climate change.
Can't get no funding if you can't fight climate change.

Heh. As I understand it, the mammoth hunters used thick stabbing spears, tipped with a flint point. Freshly flaked flint is as sharp as a razor. If you have never seen a big Clovis point, they are a thing of beauty.
The only mammoth I've ever been near was stuffed, but it seems to me that walking up to something that big and poking it with a stick is a fairly ballsy move. Bring a bunch of friends, if only to drag your trampled carcass back to camp.
[DW] The Ig Nobel awards were an online affair this year, lauding research on beards that protect your face from punches, forms of cat-human communication, and the idea that sex can help clear your sinuses — if done well.
Science is not just for the serious. The celebrated and financially lucrative Nobel Prize Awards will be here next month — but already released are the Ig Nobel Prizes, which acknowledge offbeat, quirky and weird research that often gets overlooked.
This year, the prize for medicine went to Germany-based Olcay Cem Bulut and his group of researchers, who found that sex with an orgasm can help decongest your nose. The study tested 18 couples, and found improved breathing for up to 60 minutes after orgasm. due to the snoring? PROTECTIVE BEARDS AND UPSIDE-DOWN RHINOS
The "peace" category was won by the University of Utah's Ethan Beseris, Steven Naleway and David Carrier, who discovered that beards serve the function of protecting human faces, and are not just for aesthetics. They used a fiber epoxy composite to simulate human bone, and sheep skin as a substitute for human skin, while fleece replaced beard.
"If the same is true for human facial hair, then having a full beard may help protect vulnerable regions of the facial skeleton from damaging strikes, such as the jaw," recent graduate Beseris said.
Another striking winner was wildlife veterinarian Robin Radcliffe, whose research showed that airlifting rhinos upside down by their legs was much better for their health than transporting them on their side. "The thing I love about wildlife veterinarians is you guys have to really think on your feet and think outside the box," he said.
Scientists who studied bacteria in chewing gum stuck to the pavement, and cockroach controlling techniques on submarines also bagged awards. The biology prize winner was Susanne Schötz, author of "The Secret Language of Cats," who studied "purring, chirping, chattering, trilling, tweedling, murmuring, meowing, moaning, squeaking, hissing, yowling, howling, growling" and other cat-human communication.
The ceremony, which is usually housed at the Sanders theater at Harvard University, was an online affair this time. Winners received a paper trophy to assemble themselves, and a counterfeit Zim-bob-wean $10 trillion note.
Marc Abrahams, master of ceremonies and editor of the Annals of Improbable Research magazine, which organizes the event, said: "If you didn't win an Ig Nobel prize this year, and especially if you did, better luck next year."
A German scientist was awarded an Ig Nobel prize for discovering that holding a pen in your mouth does not bring joy. Other winners proved that one testicle is warmer than the other and that banknotes spread disease.
[EN.ALGHADEERTV.NET] The Syrian army has entered the town of al-Yadudah in the southern province of Dara’a after 10 years following an agreement with local tribal elders brokered by Russia, reports said on Monday.
Syrian military officials were accompanied by Russian forces as they made their way to the southern Syrian town previously held by foreign-backed mercenaries, al-Mayadeen television reported.
On Sunday, following the mediation of Russia, an agreement was reached with tribal elders in the town, which required the gangs in al-Yadudah to surrender their weapons to the Syrian army and hand over control of the town to the government in Damascus in return for amnesty.
After the Syrian army entered the town on Monday, a center was set up for the formal handover of weapons and control of the town, under the supervision of Russian military officials and tribal elders.
The troops have set up checkpoints for the faceless myrmidons still refusing to implement the Russian-negotiated agreement that went into effect last week, ending weeks of intense fighting.
It comes days after people started arriving in the town of Dara’a al-Balad as authorities removed roadblocks and opened roads while bomb squads combed areas previously held by Takfiri ...an adherent of takfir wal hijra, an offshoot of Salafism that regards everybody who doesn't agree with them as apostates who must be killed... terrorists.
The strategic area in the city of Dara’a came under full control of the Syrian army last week.
According to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), the number of internally displaced people (IDPs) in Dara’a province as a result of foreign-backed militancy stands at 38,600, including 15,000 women and over 20,400 children.
The Syrian army units also raised the national flag in the al-Arbaeen neighborhood, within the framework of a truce agreement brokered by the Russians last month.
The government’s full control over Dara’a is significant because it borders the occupied Golan Heights, where the Israeli regime has armed faceless myrmidons fighting against the Syrian government since 2011.
The territory’s return to government control could cut the much-reported collaboration between Israel and murderous Moslems and deal a blow to Tel Aviv’s plans to annex the Golan Heights.

[THEPOSTMILLENNIAL] Portland has honored iconic "Simpsons" character Ned Flanders by naming a brand new bridge after him. The bridge, serving pedestrian and cycling traffic, will be called the Ned Flanders Crossing. Thereby demonstrating the level of seriousness the world has come to expect of Portland.
The Portland Bureau of Transportation wrote on Facebook that: "Today, it is hereby proclaimed that Flanders Crossing will be henceforth named NED FLANDERS CROSSING"
The plaque on the bridge shows Ned Flanders waving and smiling, saying "hi-diddly-ho, neighborinos!"
"Flanders Crossing, a pedestrian and bicycle bridge spanning Interstate 405, connects two iconic Portland neighborhoods — the Pearl District and the Northwest District — by reconstructing the historic street grid in Northwest Portland via NW Flanders Street."
The PBOT wrote that the crossing "honors the historic Flanders name, celebrates the Alphabet District's east-west street grid, and eases wayfinding for travelers in the area."
The PBOT claims that Ned Flanders is "a beloved cartoon character in modern cultural history," and that it was created by Portlander Matt Groening.
Groening was into the new bridge, the city said, noting that Portland has many unofficial streets and places named for Simpsons characters.

Bankers and even some consumer advocates have blasted the idea, which first garnered attention this past spring as part of the administration's American Families Plan, as a compliance headache and a privacy nightmare for customers. Financial institutions say they already report reams of data to the Internal Revenue Service.

[IsraelTimes] Israel Prisons Service Commissioner Katy Perry tells Knesset panel she’s established a team to inspect the engineering and design of every prison in the country Katy Perry? Miley Cyrus unavailable?
Perry said prison officials have worked to "eradicate crime within prisons, collect intelligence information, and thwart" prison breaks. Perry, who was sworn in as commissioner of the Israel Prisons Service in January, said there are approximately 14,000 prisoners — around 4,000 security prisoners and approximately 10,000 criminals — in 30 facilities across the country.
The prisons chief addressed the hearing a week after the escape of six Paleostinian security prisoners from the high-security Gilboa Prison, one of the worst such incidents in Israel’s history. The escape was facilitated in part by a series of blunders by the Prisons Service. Four of the prisoners were captured by police over the weekend, but two remained on the lam as of Monday afternoon.
Perry said that since the prison break occurred, she has taken a series of steps in reaction to the incident, including boosting security at prisons and dispersing security prisoners linked to the Islamic Jihad ...created after many members of the Egyptian Moslem Brotherhood decided the organization was becoming too moderate. Operations were conducted out of Egypt until 1981 when the group was exiled after the assassination of President Anwar Sadat. They worked out of Gaza until they were exiled to Lebanon in 1987, where they clove tightly to Hezbollah. In 1989 they moved to Damascus, where they remain a subsidiary of Hezbollah... In addition, she said, she established a team together with the military and other officials, "which is going cell by cell and wing by wing" in each prison in order "to check the engineering of the buildings, to see the blueprints and to check what is underground" beneath the facilities.

[AnNahar] The Ministry of Finance was informed on Monday from the International Monetary Fund that Leb ...an Iranian colony situated on the eastern Mediterranean, conveniently adjacent to Israel. In 2020 Hezbollahblew up a considerable portion of Beirut and many of its inhabitants when its ammonium nitrate faci8lity exploded. They blamed it on... somebody else. It wasn't them though. The Ministry of Finance had asked the International Monetary Fund to transfer the special drawing rights that Lebanon can benefit from, especially those belonging to the year 2009.
The total value is a sum of 860 million dollars for the year 2021 and 275 million dollars for the year 2009.

[FOXNEWS] Students at a Washington state high school wanted to mark the 20th year since the Sept. 11 attacks by wearing red, white and blue at a patriotic-themed game but were refused because the event could "unintentionally cause offense to some who see it differently," according to a report.
Jason Rantz, a host on KTTH 770/94.5FM, reported that the event was canceled by an unnamed staffer at Eastlake High School in Sammamish "at the last minute." A student told the show that he was informed that the "red, white and blue was going to be seen as racially insensitive and may affect people in a way that we will not understand and for that reason that we were to change our theme."
The station posted a screengrab of an email from one of the school’s associate principals to a parent that said she understands the "sacrifice and values our flag represents, but I think they [school leadership] just did not want to unintentionally cause offense to some who see it differently."
