Cook County prosecutors say a 29-year-old man traveling with his mother desperately didn't want her to know he'd packed a sexual aid for their trip to Turkey.
"What's that in your bag, my son?"

So he told security it was a bomb, officials said.
Madin Azad Amin was stopped by officials on Aug. 16 after guards found an object in his baggage that resembled a grenade, prosecutors said. When officers asked him to identify it, Amin said it was a bomb, said Cook County Assistant State's Attorney Lorraine Scaduto. He later told officials he'd lied about the item because his mother was nearby and he didn't want her to hear that it was part of a penis pump, Scaduto said.
"Look, call it anything you want, just don't tell my mother!"
He's been charged with felony disorderly conduct, said Andrew Conklin, a spokesman with the Cook County state's attorney's office. Amin faces up to three years in prison if convicted.
I think it's safe to say that Madin won't be reproducing any stoopid offspring any time in the near future. Wonder if he can get a Darwin?

A Nesquehoning man who came drunk to Carbon County Court on Monday to be sentenced in a drunken driving case will likely spend more time in jail. Joshua J. Beury, 25, of 342 W. Railroad St., on Tuesday got the same sentence from county President Judge Roger N. Nanovic that he got Monday before court officials determined he was inebriated: 30 days to six months in county prison. But this time, Nanovic added the condition that Beury must petition the court before being released. Normally, a person sentenced to 90 days or less in Carbon County is automatically released after the minimum term if they have no misconducts in prison.
But county Chief Adult Probation Officer Ronald Kokinda said most people who have to petition the court for their release end up serving more than the minimum term. After Beury was sentenced Monday, court personnel leading him back to prison said he smelled of alcohol. They administered a breath test, which showed he had a blood-alcohol content of 0.20 percent more than the 0.17 percent when he was charged with drunken driving and more than twice the 0.08 percent at which state law considers a person too drunk to drive.
After court personnel told Nanovic of the test, the judge vacated the 30-day sentence he had given Beury for his second DUI offense and jailed him for contempt of court. Beury was brought back to court Tuesday. Beury insisted he only had two beers the night before the sentence, but Nanovic told him it's not possible to get a blood alcohol content of 0.20 percent from that amount.

In all seriousness, that is the typical answer given by anyone pulled over for DUI. They remember the first beer, and the last one.....the five or six in between? Not so much.
It's taken 3 1/2 years, but Frank Quattrone has extricated himself from both regulatory shackles and a criminal conviction that once seemed likely to end to his brilliant if controversial career in disgrace. Houdini would have been impressed.
The odds were against him. ``Something on the order of 94 percent of those charged in federal court either plead or are found guilty of something,'' said Lee Altschuler, former chief of the U.S. Attorney's Office in San Jose and now a Palo Alto defense attorney. ``It's not always a function of the strength of the evidence. It's also the resources to fight back in court.''
Quattrone had the money for a high-caliber defense and the will to refuse a plea bargain. In reversing his own reversal of fortune, the former chief of technology banking for Credit Suisse First Boston succeeded where such high-profile, deep-pocket defendants as Michael Milken, Charles Keating and Martha Stewart failed. They went to prison. Quattrone, steadfastly maintaining his innocence, won his appeals and ultimately made prosecutors back off.
In the ultimate analysis, legal observers say, Quattrone may have prevailed because the case against him was questionable from the start, and because regulators and prosecutors took an unreasonably hard-line approach in their quest to punish him.
Frank Quattrone plays hard ball on the edge, but he didn't break the law here and this dismissal is well deserved. It is unfortuante he cannot sue fvor what was done to him, malicious prosecution. I'd bet his defence has cost him between $5 and 10 million. Few of us could afford that kind of defence against the unlimited budget of a rogue Federal prosecutor. This, like the case against Martha Stewart was nothing but a trumped up Obstruction of Justice charge. This is a bogus charge and I will never think ill of anyone just because they have been convicted of OOJ.
Tucson Police say a dangerous man is off the streets and locked up in County Jail. Fernando Egurrola-Gutierrez, a 26-year-old resident of Mexico, was arrested Saturday night after Police responded to reports of a home invasion. Police arrived on the scene about two minutes after getting the call. When they got there they say Gutierrez was on top of the female victim. Sergeant Decio Hopffer told News 4, "We had to go hands-on with him. He did not immediately comply with our demands so we had to go hands-on to detain him."

A man who had just been released from jail was sent right back Monday after police say he picked the wrong store to attempt a robbery. The 30-year-old man was in line at a 7-Eleven, 2175 E. 9400 South, just before 8 p.m. When he got to the counter he asked the female clerk for a carton of cigarettes, said Sandy Police Sgt. Victor Quezada. But after he received them he walked out.
The clerk told another female clerk who followed him outside the doors and told him to stop. Instead, the man turned around and punched the clerk in the face, Quezada said.
Punching a woman? Yup, that would set off a Marine.
James Sjostrom was standing in line right behind the man who took the cigarettes and saw the entire thing unfold. "He just turned and clocked her," Sjostrom said. "He pounded her face. It was pretty vicious."
That's when Sjostrom went after the man who assaulted the store clerk. As he went outside, Sjostrom said he saw the man standing over the clerk, who was kneeling over on the ground, as if he were going to punch her again. When the man saw Sjostrom coming at him, he took a swing at him, too.
Big, big mistake.
But the attacker quickly found out he was no match for the bulky Sjostrom.
Sjostrom is a former Marine who taught hand-to-hand combat and currently teaches a course on Russian kettlebells, or the martial art of strength training, at the Sports Mall in Murray. "I grabbed him, threw him on the ground, put his hands behind his back, sat on him and waited for the cops to come," Sjostrom said.
In just a matter of a few seconds Sjostrom had the man pinned. When the man realized he had no chance, Sjostrom said he became "pretty quiet."
Drat.
"Anybody would have done the same thing," he said. "Another guy in the store said he was in the Army and asked if I needed any help."
Hoo-ah!
With a grin, Sjostrom replied to the man, "The Marines got here first."
The would-be thief refused to tell police who he was. They figured it out, however, when they found his release papers from the Salt Lake County Jail still in his pocket. The man had been released from jail on another assault arrest just hours earlier, Quezada said.Although police don't normally encourage people to go after bad guys themselves, in this case, "The guy did something that was great," he said.
The female clerk who was punched suffered a cut above her eyebrow. She was treated at the scene by paramedics and released.

News that the Select Board had asked Town Attorney Robert Fisher to research a possible local ordinance drew a protest of sorts Friday, as five young men gathered downtown and stripped their clothes off in protest. "There's no real valid way to justify the banning of nakedness," said one of the men, Adhi Palar, between licks on his clarinet. "Nakedness does not violate any human rights whatsoever."

A criminal charge might result if the nudity is sexual in nature, with the purpose of "gratification or the intent of arousing oneself or another," Martin said.

FARMERS in a small Jiangsu town host strippers at their funerals to attract larger crowds, China Central Television reported the unique custom on Monday.
The local people believe that the more people gathered at a funeral, the more luck it will bring to the family and offspring. So some families hire striptease troupes to attract more people, the report said.
This stripping spectacle has reportedly become one of the town's most popular nighttime events, especially among migrant workers. Some local residents even host a rival show with two performances on the each side of the street close to the mourning hall and their houses to attract viewers.
With a competitive atmosphere, the dancers and singers on each side try their best to attract people's attention, the report said.

A YOUNG Austrian woman told police today she had escaped a kidnapper after being held for eight years in a sealed garage, apparently resolving a missing child case that shook the nation, officials said.
Police said relatives identified the woman as Natascha Kampusch, who vanished in 1998 at age 10 while walking to school. A major manhunt was under way for a 44-year-old man suspected of having abducted her.
Herwig Haidinger, head of the Federal Crime Office (BKA), said the woman was undergoing DNA tests to confirm her identity but that investigators were almost certain she was Ms Kampusch.
Austrian news agency APA quoted the investigators as saying there were no indications the woman had suffered sexual abuse.
The woman, very pale but in apparently good physical health, told police she had escaped earlier in the day from a house in a village near Vienna where she had been largely confined in an secured garage since her abduction.
She said her captor would occasionally allow her for take walks with him through his neighbourhood and that she had access to radio, television, newspapers and books, and the garage was equipped with a bed and wardrobe, according to police and local media.

State Sen. Jerry Cooper was indicted today by a federal grand jury in Chattanooga on three felony counts stemming from his role in a land deal that has already led to two people's convictions. Cooper, D-Morrison, is accused of bank fraud, mail fraud and conspiracy to commit bank and mail fraud. He could face as much as 65 years in prison and more than $2 million in fines if convicted, according to the U.S. Attorney's office for the Eastern District of Tennessee.
Cooper has agreed to surrender himself to be arrested "sometime next week," the U.S. Attorney's office said in a news release. Cooper's attorney, Jerry Summers of Chattanooga, did not immediately return a phone call seeking comment. Federal prosecutors allege that Cooper conspired with other people to defraud BankTennessee of Collierville - which Lt. Gov. John Wilder co-owns - by providing a false appraisal of Cooper's woodworking plant in Smartt, Tenn. The appraisal said the property had a railroad spur that did not actually exist.

Musa lamented the Philippine government's failure to fast-track the crafting of guidelines that would regulate Halal-certifying entities in the country. But in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM), religious leaders and other stakeholders have approved the halal certification standards that will be observed as it strives to penetrate the $150 billion global market for halal products. Ustadz Mohammad Inju, chair of the Halal Certification Board, said they approved the technical guidelines about a week ago and will start operations by September. The Technical Guidelines and Manual of Operation of the ARMM Halal Accreditation and Certification Board, which provides guidance on slaughtering, preparing, processing, handling, packaging, distribution and serving of halal food, was approved by muftis (scholars who interpret Islamic law) and Moro food scientists, chemists and doctors, he said.
Musa said the country is yet to determine which agency will lead a Halal regulatory body whose function is to identify Halal certifying entities. Musa said he prefers a centralized Halal certifying body. At present, there are some Halal certifying entities operating, but they lack laboratory equipment, thus they cannot test the presence of Haraam components in food products, he said.

Halal means lawful or permissible. Marking food products with Halal seal will inform Muslim consumers that such is free from Haram (food forbidden by Islam). Haram foods include alcohol, lard from swine, and any meat derivatives from swine, dog, snake, or canine animals. Islamic doctrine forbids Muslim to eat Haram. Meats from chicken, cattle, buffalo, sheep, and deer are Halal for Muslims to consume. The process of slaughtering such animals should follow Islamic methods wherein they are killed in the name of Allah. A couple of years ago, the Office of Muslim Affairs was tasked by the government to issue Halal certification to food companies. However, it was contested by some Ulama (Islamic scholars) who argued that OMA, as a government agency should not get involved in religious matters. The case was brought to court and the judge decided in favor of the Ulama.

Musa and his colleagues were able to meet key personalities from different countries like Australia, United States of America, Thailand, Indonesia, and Canada, who are engaged in Halal certification and production. They were able to visit abattoirs, poultry and meat processing plants strictly operating under Halal standards. We learned that most Halal producers in the world are non-Muslims. Their products are certified by Ulama and Muslim laboratory technicians or chemists, Musa said.He added, At present, there are 1.8 billion Muslims in the world in 150 countries. We should pursue in developing our Halal industry and penetrate the world Halal market which plays up to 200 billion dollars every year. Musa said increased Halal production would mean jobs for the Moro people. He said he would try his best to attend the Halal Science Symposium in Thailand on September 1 and 2 in order to help the government in crafting policies for the development of Halal industry in the country.

NEW DELHI, June 21 (UPI) -- India has discovered a sizeable reserve of good quality gas hydrates in the southern Kaveri-Godavari basin.
"Results from the second site in KG basin are particularly remarkable. These have shown the presence of a 128-meter (420-foot) thick gas hydrate layer indicating massive to dispersed gas hydrates," the Indian Petroleum and Natural Gas Ministry said in a statement.
"This marks a very significant development in the country. Research and development work is in progress to develop a commercially viable technology to produce natural gas from gas hydrates, which is so far not a source of energy (that) could meet a large part of our ever-increasing demand for basin in decades to come," said Indian Petroleum Minister Murli Deora.
The discovery was made by drillship JOIDES Resolution.
"This implies that there are massive hydrates present in the subsurface, which is also corroborated with the help of logging while drilling and wireline logs," the statement said.
In the well where the discovery was made, the statement continued, the presence of a gas hydrate layer 420 feet thick indicates that there will be significant quantities of gas hydrates in the area.

About one-quarter of the newsroom employees at the Akron Beacon Journal will lose their jobs within the next two months. ``It's a very sad day for the Beacon Journal,'' new publisher Edward R. Moss said Tuesday in announcing layoffs, which he said are necessary to align costs with revenues. The moves are part of a companywide restructuring that will result in additional job reductions, Moss said. Moss, who was named publisher by new owner David Black on Aug. 7, said the newspaper's profits have fallen by about 50 percent during the last four years.
Canadian publisher Black Press Ltd. paid $165 million for the newspaper and its Web site after the breakup of parent Knight Ridder Inc. in June. Black told employees days before the transaction closed that jobs would have to be cut because of revenue losses.

Cook County prosecutors say a 29-year-old man traveling with his mother desperately didn't want her to know he'd packed a sexual aid for their trip to Turkey.
A Nesquehoning man who came drunk to Carbon County Court on Monday to be sentenced in a drunken driving case will likely spend more time in jail. Joshua J. Beury, 25, of 342 W. Railroad St., on Tuesday got the same sentence from county President Judge Roger N. Nanovic that he got Monday before court officials determined he was inebriated: 30 days to six months in county prison. But this time, Nanovic added the condition that Beury must petition the court before being released. Normally, a person sentenced to 90 days or less in Carbon County is automatically released after the minimum term if they have no misconducts in prison.
State Sen. Jerry Cooper was indicted today by a federal grand jury in Chattanooga on three felony counts stemming from his role in a land deal that has already led to two people's convictions. Cooper, D-Morrison, is accused of bank fraud, mail fraud and conspiracy to commit bank and mail fraud. He could face as much as 65 years in prison and more than $2 million in fines if convicted, according to the U.S. Attorney's office for the Eastern District of Tennessee.
The Louisiana Democratic Congressman caught on FBI surveillance tapes taking $90,000 in cash has been selected by the Democratic Congressional caucus to lead a delegation from Capitol Hill on a tour of New Orleans next week to "join in prayer with the people of the region, to reflect and remember." 
About one-quarter of the newsroom employees at the Akron Beacon Journal will lose their jobs within the next two months. ``It's a very sad day for the Beacon Journal,'' new publisher Edward R. Moss said Tuesday in announcing layoffs, which he said are necessary to align costs with revenues. The moves are part of a companywide restructuring that will result in additional job reductions, Moss said. Moss, who was named publisher by new owner David Black on Aug. 7, said the newspaper's profits have fallen by about 50 percent during the last four years.
