#43  Chattanooga paper 2010 about area Muslim youth. Yasmeen Abdulazeez, then 17, (? sister of dead perp) interviewed & picture in article.
Chattanooga's Muslim teens said they feel a responsibility to help dispel the negative stereotypes of their faith.
Before graduating from Red Bank High School, Abdulazeez said some of the students would harass her. She said she saw that as an opportunity to dispel misconceptions about her faith.

"I'm not afraid to go straight toward them and ask them, 'Do you really know what Islam is?' " Abdulazeez said. "There's this misconception that Islam is a violent religion. Muslims are actually peaceful."

#44  Meanwhile back in DC: Washington (AFP) - President Barack Obama on Thursday wished Muslims in America and around the world "Eid Mubarak!" or a blessed Eid, praising efforts to recognize the end of Ramadan as a holiday.

"The holiday is a reminder to every American of the importance of respecting those of all faiths and beliefs," he said in a statement that also hailed New York City's decision to add Eid to the official school calendar.

That, he said, was "an acknowledgement of the great diversity and inclusiveness that adds to the richness of our nation."

#47  Opinion: ‘Path to Radicalization’? Start with His Name

Political correctness will be the death of this country, which is exactly why it was invented in the first place. More willful stupidity:

Officials have not said what weapons he used, and even the exact spelling of his first name was not clear: Federal authorities and records gave at least four variations.

Well, gee, maybe that’s because “Muhammad” in all its variants is a transliteration from an alien language. Spoken by people from an alien culture that is by faith and custom hostile to the West, and which views the universal elevation of Islam as its prime directive. If you’re a devout Muslim, how much “radicalization” do you really need? The only question is whether the dar-al-Harb is conquered by persuasion or brute force, and they don’t much care which it is.

This is war, but only one side knows it.

It was hard to keep down the gag reflex when I saw this part:

"The holiday is a reminder to every American of the importance of respecting those of all faiths and beliefs," he said in a statement that also hailed New York City's decision to add Eid to the official school calendar.

That, he said, was "an acknowledgement of the great diversity and inclusiveness that adds to the richness of our nation."

He was conditionally hired as an engineer at the Perry nuclear power plant near Cleveland, Ohio, and spent 10 days there before he was let go in May 2013 because he failed a background check, said Todd Schneider, a FirstEnergy Corp. spokesman. Pro-life group to Planned Parenthood: Release fetal-tissue contracts
[Wash Times] The Center for Medical Progress called on Planned Parenthood president Cecile Richards to release all contracts with companies that provide fetal tissue to laboratories after she apologized Thursday for a top doctor's "tone and statements."

"Without concrete action, Planned Parenthood's 'apology' is just a cynical and empty excuse--and an excuse that's three days late," said the center in a Thursday statement.

"If they are truly sorry, they should immediately hand over all contracts with StemExpress and other fetal harvesting companies to law enforcement and congressional committees," the center said. "A belated 'sorry' is not enough for these deeds of baby parts trafficking and partial-birth abortion, these atrocities against humanity."

Ms. Richards' apology came after the center released Tuesday an undercover video conversation with Dr. Deborah Nucatola, Planned Parenthood's senior director of medical services, who described over lunch and wine how she conducts abortions in order to preserve valuable fetal organs, such as the heart, liver and lungs.

"Our top priority is the compassionate care that we provide. In the video, one of our staff members speaks in a way that does not reflect that compassion," Ms. Richards said. "This is unacceptable and I personally apologize for the staff member's tone and statements."

At the same time, Ms. Richards defended the practice of fetal-tissue donation while insisting that the organization receives no profit from donating the tissue and organs of aborted fetuses.
I'll give this a resounding, not a snowballs chance in hell.

McShame: Trump really fired up 'the crazzies' in AZ with his immigration talk
[Hot Air] If there are any votes left among tea-party border hawks that haven't already migrated (temporarily) to Trump, this ought to shake them loose.

To think, there are conservatives out there in America today who are convinced their party's elder statesmen view them with contempt.

"It's very bad," McCain, who was eager to talk about Trump, told me on Monday when I stopped by his Senate office. The Senator is up for reĂŤlection in 2016 and he pays close attention to how the issue of immigration is playing in his state. He was particularly rankled by Trump's rally. "This performance with our friend out in Phoenix is very hurtful to me," McCain said. "Because what he did was he fired up the crazies."...

"We'll see how this plays out, but there is some anger in my state," McCain said. He mentioned the continuing challenges of border security that were vividly highlighted when tens of thousands of Central American minors crossed into America last summer. "People who otherwise might be more centrist are angry about this border situation."

#1  They confuse the anger directed at them and their abject failure to control the border with anger at los illegales. You have no loyalty to me as an American, then expect none in return. Had you actually secured the border 10 years ago as you were suppose to, talk today would be about integration of the working and contributing elements you hide behind in your faux moralization.

(1) Any company that pays less than minimum wage will be fined severely and possibly put in jail.
(2) Sanctions against the Oligarchs in Mexico that have profited off of the abject poverty. Poverty that has forced many to risk death (and sexual slavery) crossing the desert to work just to survive.

Let folks defend lowering the minimum wage, or why illegals should be paid less than American workers or work in conditions considered unsafe for American workers. I think Republicans should welcome such a conversation.

Let folks defend the Mexican oligarchs that have screwed up Mexico for a century. Why should the European-blooded oligarchs be allowed a pass?

Planned Parenthood 'kiddie parts' Official Works For White House Staff
[Daily Caller] Disgraced Planned Parenthood official Deborah Nucatola's shocking personal work history is coming to light.

Records reveal that Nucatola was employed by a former White House staffer at the time that she was selling aborted baby fetus parts.

A staunch political advocate, Nucatola railed against the "right-wing" Bush administration. What's more, she so enjoyed her work in the abortion industry that she touted a T-shirt celebrating a drug used in the practice.

Nucatola is currently employed at Sexual Health Innovations, founded by former Obama White House staffer Jessica Ladd. Senior Obama administration officials sit on the board of the abortion activist group, including Praveen Basaviah of the President's Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS and Kyle Bernstein of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The IRS-approved 501(c)3 tech nonprofit is a major Obama administration contractor.
The Presidential Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS (PACHA) was a commission formed by President Bill Clinton in 1995 to provide recommendations on the US government's response to the AIDS epidemic.
The group works on issues including "abortion access," according to its website. Two Thai soldiers gunned down, set on fire
[Bangkok Post] Two Thai soldiers were gunned down when their vehicle was ambushed and set ablaze by militants in Narathiwat province late Thursday morning.

The incident occurred as a military pickup truck was passing in front of a mosque in Rueso district. A group of eight or nine militants, following in another truck, opened fire. The driver was hit and killed behind the wheel, bringing the truck to a halt on the roadside. Another soldier was injured and got out of the vehicle to flee. But he was shot again and killed.

The militants poured gasoline on the truck and on the bodies of the two slain soldiers and set them on fire, before leaving. They also deployed metal spikes on the road to impede pursuers.

Iraq closes border crossing with Jordan until further notice
[AlAhram] Iraq closed its border with Jordan until further notice, in part to deprive Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. bandidos forces of Evil of taxes they impose on cargo trucks driving through their territory, a senior Iraqi military official said Thursday.

A Jordanian government official confirmed the closure of the Trebil crossing between Jordan and Iraq.

The closure dealt a new blow to Jordan's fragile economy which has suffered from the spillover of Islamic State land grabs in neighboring Iraq and Syria since the summer of 2014. In the spring, Jordan closed its only trade crossing with Syria after Islamic bandidos forces of Evil seized the area from Syrian government forces.

In Iraq, the Islamic State group controls large areas between Trebil and the Iraqi capital of Baghdad, in the country's Anbar province. Earlier this week, Iraq launched a large-scale military offensive to try to dislodge the Islamic State group from Anbar.

Brig. Gen. Saad Maan, a front man for Iraq's Joint Operations Command, told The News Agency that Dare Not be Named on Thursday that authorities have closed Trebil until further notice. Maan noted that the IS group has been imposing taxes on the goods crossing areas under its control. He said the crossing will reopen when the security situation improves.

Traffic on the Jordanian-Iraqi border had been disrupted even before the closure announcement.

Jordan, meanwhile, urged drivers not to head to the Iraqi border.

Yemeni Army, Committees Deny Fall of Aden Port As Saudi-US Strikes Continue
[ALMANAR.LB] Sources from the Yemeni army and the Popular Committees (PC) fighting against the Saudi-US aggression and allied al-Qaeda terrorist operatives have denied on Thursday claims that the port of Aden city had fallen in the hands of pro-aggression militiamen, while confirming that a large part of Khor Maksar area was restored.

The army and the Committee forces continued their progress in Al-Mansoura district in Aden province, south of Yemen, and took control of the areas bordering the district.

In the meantime, the missile unit of the Yemeni army and the Committees pounded the Saudi military posts, by shelling the communications center in Dhahran-Asir with six Grad rockets

Bedouins drawn into Egypt's Islamist fight
[EN.ZAMANALWSL.NET] One afternoon in mid-April, a Bedouin woman screamed inside her single-storey, stone house in the Egyptian village of al-Taweela. The screams were so loud that neighbors took notice, said Ali Abu-Freij, a resident in the northern Sinai village. He and other locals saw four men in masks speed away from the house in a Toyota Land Cruiser.

"When we went to the home to see what happened, we were surprised to find the husband tied up and saying that gunnies had kidnapped his wife," said Abu-Freij.

The kidnappers -- who had identified themselves as Sinai Province, the most lethal Islamist group in Egypt -- vanished. But the following day, villagers found the 32-year-old woman's body nearby "with two gunshots in the head and a cut through her neck," said Abu-Freij. Two local tribal leaders said she had been raped. One of them, Mousa al-Delh, said a note found with the body said the woman had been killed because she had cooperated with the Egyptian army.

Bangladesh sentences man to death for murder, rape
[DAWN] A special war crimes tribunal has sentenced a man to death on charges that he committed rape and murder in 1971 during Bangladesh's war for independence from Pakistain.

The tribunal's head judge, Obaidul Hassan, issued the order Thursday against Forkan Mollick.

The man worked at a local office of the Jamaat-e-Islami
...The Islamic Society, founded in 1941 in Lahore by Maulana Sayyid Abul Ala Maududi, aka The Great Apostosizer. The Jamaat opposed the independence of Bangladesh but has operated an independent branch there since 1975. It maintains close ties with international Mohammedan groups such as the Moslem Brotherhood. the Taliban, and al-Qaeda. The Jamaat's objectives are the establishment of a pure Islamic state, governed by Sharia law. It is distinguished by its xenophobia, and its opposition to Westernization, capitalism, socialism, secularism, and liberalist social mores...
party, Bangladesh's largest religious party, which had organised people to fight against the independence struggle.

After Thursday's verdict, Mollick shouted from inside a prison van that he was innocent as police took him away.

Bangladesh says Pak soldiers, aided by local collaborators, killed 3 million people and raped 200,000 women during the war in then East Pakistain, now Bangladesh.

There will be no real action by official America only words, just like the final words of Theo Van Goegh as a Mohammedan was carving him up, "Can't we talk about this?" as we continue to bury our dead, unarmed soldiers and civilians now being killed over here.

#3  I'll give the regime until about lunchtime today to release information relative to the shooter's weapon and shift discussions away from the jihadi shooter toward an evil assault gun narrative.

If the shooter was [at one time] an intern for TVA, I wonder if he had a security clearance? I am also curious about the speed the feds and Champ jumped on this one. Curious as well about the father, his alleged gov't job, possible Kuwaiti Royal Family connections, Islamic community connections, terrorism watch lists, fancy house with pool, H1B, Affirmative Action, on and on.

Fox news is making a big splash about the arming of U.S. military personnel. Sadly, the chances of service personnel being armed during the course of their duties is very, very remote. The regime is concentrated on the distilling and elimination of Western cultural icons like our military, not the protection of them. Recent developments related to transgender military personnel bear that out.

China-Japan-Koreas
Japan Moves to Allow Military Combat for First Time in 70 Years
Mr. Abe has presented the package as an unavoidable response to new threats facing Japan, in particular the growing military power of China. He seized on the murder of two Japanese hostages by the Islamic State militant group in January as an example of why Japan needs to loosen restrictions on its military, suggesting that the military might have rescued them if it had been free to act.

"These laws are absolutely necessary because the security situation surrounding Japan is growing more severe," he said after Thursday's vote.

China condemned passage of the bills, describing them as a potential threat to peace in Asia and invoking Japan's wartime aggression.

On the other, it's the coming war with China. Along with China's obvious push for territory and power, I'd bet they are looking for some payback for WW2 unpleasantness. Gonna be ugly because the Chinese think they can win and the Japanese won't go down without a fight.

#4  Nope, I'm NOT feeling lucky at this news.

IMO this will only serve to facilitate or improve the chances for a China-Japan/ASEAN war across East Asia + potens agz Guam-CNMI.

The US aside, China confronting + fighting the Philippines [Vietnam] is one thing, China confronting + fighting JAPAN [Australia, Russia] is quite another.

Looks like Nippon Amb. Caroline Kennedy has her job seriously cut out for her - hope she's up to the task. ONCE ANY SHOOTING STARTS, NO MATTER ITS EARLY OR INITIAL PROBLEMS AS PER WARFIGHTING ART, OR ITS LOSSES IN COMBAT, CHINA WILL COME BACK AND AGAIN.

* FYI GMA NEWS > JAPAN MILITARY CHIEF SAYS SOUTH CHINA SEA SURVEILLANCE IS POSSIBLE.

To which China will more likely than not have no choice but to respond militarily to the constraints on its ambitions to be Asia's or East Asia's, + "post-US", WORLD/GLOBAL NUMBER ONE.

AGAIN, CHINA'S + PLA'S GREATEST OR ULTIMATE "ACE" AGZ THE US-ALLIES IS THE ANTI-US US OWG GLOBALIST = ANTI-AMERICAN AMERIKAN POTUS IN THE WHITE HOUSE WHOM IS ALSO TOP = #1 IN THE US NATIONAL COMMAND AUTHORITY.

* SO-CALLED "CONVENTIONAL WISDOM" = CHINA WILL MOST LIKELY PREFER TO ENGAGE IN UNILATERAL WAR FOR "STRATEGIC ACCESS" AGZ THE PHILIPINES ANDOR JAPAN WIDOUT NEED OF THE US + ALLIES INVOKING THEIR RESPECTIVE MUTUAL DEFENSE TREATIES, HENCE PREEMPTING ANY DIRECT US INVOLVEMENT/ASSISTANCE TO ITS REGIONAL ALLIES OUTSIDE OF BENIGN MATERIEL SUPPORT, DRONES, ETC. AS THE US DOES IN THE ME VEE IRAQ-SYRIA.

* IIRC JAPAN TIMES > SECURITY BILLS WILL MAKE OKINAWA A "SACRIFICE" AGAIN; NAGO MAYOR, i.e. a viable target for external or foreign attack.

True enuff, but the good Mayor of Nago should keep in mind that CHINA DESIRES OKINAWA = RYUKYUS, ETAL. TO PROTECT ITS FUTURE PLA CENTCOM ON TAIWAN.

* WORLD MILITARY FORUM > TO PROTECT ITS TERRITORIES IN THE EAST-SOUTH CHINA SEAS + STRATEGIC INTERESTS, CHINA NEEDS A LONG-RANGE STRATEGIC BOMBER FORCE CAPABLE OF STRIKING ANY TIME AT GUAM, HAWAII, DIEGO GARCIA, + US WEST COAST.

IOW, China needs a PLAAF LR Bomber Force capable of defending its desired 1/2 of the Pacific = OWG Co-Superpower "Sphere of Influence" in WESTPAC [US isolated or contained to Hawaii-EASTPAC + West Coast].

US official: no indication FBI was investigating Chattanooga gunman
A United States official says there’s no indication that the suspected Chattanooga gunman was under investigation by the FBI or on the radar of federal law enforcement at the time of the shooting.

The FBI says the gunman opened fire Thursday at a recruiting centre and another U.S. military site a few miles apart, killing at least four Marines.

A U.S. official speaking on condition of anonymity identified the gunman as 24-year-old Muhammad Youssef Abdulazeez of Hixson, Tennessee, though the exact spelling of his first name was in dispute, with federal authorities and records giving at least four variations.

How Israel took out a Syrian general in charge of Syria's nukes
In TFA is a reference to a top Russian GRU operative who turned up dead under "mysterious circumstances". I'd say the Syrians may have decided that Major-General Yuri Ivanov gave the Israelis the technical data they needed to pull off this operation.

Just my two kopeks.

In the summer of '08, Brigadier General Mohammed Suleiman, who had been in charge of Syria's nuclear program, was shot at his seaside villa.

Besides the nuclear program, Suleiman also handled weapons transfers to Hezbollah terrorists in Lebanon, which made him a target of special interest for Israel, which has specifically focused on the weapons interface between states and terrorist groups.

His killing was initially a mystery. The assassin(s) had managed to enter Syria, take out a top general and escape. The $80 million found in Suleiman's villa further clouded matters, but then which top Arab official doesn't have hidden stockpiles of money?

Now we supposedly know how it happened.

Punish Rajon's twisted murderers
[Dhaka Tribune] We are shocked by the vicious murder of Sheikh Samiul Alam Rajon, the 13-year-old boy, who was tied to a pole and tortured to death by a group of men in Kumargon, Sylhet.

It is difficult to imagine the anguish his family must be enduring as the nation learns of the 28 minute video of his barbaric torture which was filmed and uploaded by his killers.

The video contains harrowing footage of the horrific beating and torture Rajon was subjected to by a group of five or six individuals, before he departed this vale of tears.

Some comfort can be taken from the fact that the prime accused has been placed on a five-day remand by the Sylhet Metropolitan Magistrate. It is fortuitous that he was detained last week after being caught red-handed trying to dump Rajon's body.

Now that a murder case has been formally filed, the police must ensure the immediate apprehension and arrest of all the accused's accomplices.

The damning evidence that the tormentors have provided of themselves brutally laughing and jeering as they tortured their victim, can be used to quickly bring them to justice.

Nothing can excuse or explain why they brazenly boasted about their sickening depravity. But everyone knows that no one should be allowed to get away with murder.

Rajon's killers must be held to account and punished to the full extent of the law.

Army fights on in Benghazi's Leithi with limited progress
[Libya Herald] This evening salvoes from army howitzers and Grad missile batteries pounded areas occupied by Ansar and Daesh fighters in Benghazi's Leithi district.

This followed five raids by Mig-23s which missiled and bombed Death Eater positions in Nubs Square and Hejaz Street.

One observer ascribed the intensity of the firing to the grief and anger felt throughout local units at the deadly sniping of Saiqa 21st Brigade commander Salem Al-Naaili, known as "Afarit " -- the "Demon".

There were reports of substantial numbers of troops and at least four tanks being moved forward this evening, in anticipation of a major assault tomorrow.

Yet after four days fighting, the army has yet to secure the area around Nubs Square. Building taken from Death Eaters have been mined and the advance has been hampered by sniper fire.

In his Marj presser last night, the commander-in-chief of the armed forces, General Khalifa Hafter promised more air strikes and ammunition for the Benghazi battle. However Hafter has for months been predicting victory over Death Eaters. Yet they still control the great part of Leithi and most importantly are able to receive supplies and reinforcements through the small port of Mreisa, despite air force attacks against the small craft being used in the operation.

It is unclear how many casualties the army sustained today, but the biggest loss has been the death of Afarit -- the Demon.

Faryab Residents Flee, Call for Help as Security Deteriorates
[Tolo News] Residents of Faryab province, which has seen heavy fighting between Afghan cops and Talibs in recent weeks, have expressed mounting concerns that large swaths of the province could fall into the hands of bandidos turbans unless more comprehensive measures are taken by the government to stabilize the situation.

"The faithful people of Faryab urge the president, chief executive officer, Ministry of Defense and Ministry of Interior that there is an immediate need for a major operation in Faryab," Faryab Peace Committee head Maulavi Assadullah Jamali said on Thursday. "Otherwise, a human tragedy will occur," he added.

Reports from the ground in Faryab indicate Talibs have already seized control of 40 villages, setting fire to some 30 residential homes in the process.

Displaced families have now sought refuge in neighboring Balkh province. They say that insecurity has reached in its peak in their home province and that roadways have become too risky for commuters.

"The situation in Faryab is distressing and war continues in various districts," one Faryab native named Ahmad told TOLOnews.

"The Taliban operate in the area and the battle continues and many have been displaced," another resident named Bai Murad said. "There is no transportation because the ways are insecure."

The acting governor of Faryab, Abdul Sattar Bariz, has tried to assuage anxieties by touting alleged gains by the security forces. He said on Thursday that government forces had destroyed an important Taliban base in the suburb of Khawja Sabzposh district.

"A day ago one of the important bases of the enemy was targeted in the area of Yakataz, in the suburb of Khawja Sabzposh district, by an air raid of commandos and a special unit of the Ministry of Interior," Bariz said. "The operation killed six Taliban and four others were maimed. The whole area is peaceful now," he added.

Israel Assassinated Assad Military Adviser near Tartus Port in 2008
[ALMANAR.LB] Evidence has emerged from leaked US signals intelligence intercepts that Israeli special forces were responsible for assassinating a senior Syrian military official who was a close adviser to Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Trampler of Homs...
Brig Gen Mahmoud Suleiman was rubbed out on a beach near the northern Syrian port of Tartus in August 2008. The Guardian reported at the time that the seaside murder was perpetrated by a sniper firing from a yacht moored offshore.

'Israel' has never commented publicly on suspicions that it was involved. But newly revealed secret US intelligence documents state as a fact that Israeli special forces killed the general.

The revelation comes from an internal National Security Agency document provided by the former NSA contractor Edward Snowden, and cited by the Intercept, edited by Glenn Greenwald. It said that a top-secret entry in the NSA's internal version of Wikipedia, called Intellipedia, described the liquidation by "Israeli naval commandos" near Tartus as the "first known instance of 'Israel' targeting a legitimate (Syrian) government official".

The details of the liquidation were included in a "manhunting timeline" within the NSA's intelligence repository, the Intercept said on Wednesday.

The US embassy in Damascus reported at the time that 'Israel' was the most likely suspect, according to a secret cable released by WikiLeaks in 2010.

Suleiman was described by Syrian officials as dealing with defense and security issues in Assad's private office in Damascus. Israeli and Syrian opposition sources claimed he worked as "liaison" with Hezbollah.

Southeast Asia
Philippines to Reopen Huge Old U.S. Naval Base
It's a fixer upper, but the old U.S. Navy base at Subic bay in the Philippines used to be one of the largest U.S. naval bases in the world. Now, Manila is refurbishing and reopening it as part of a $20 billion military modernization project aimed at standing up to China. Because of its location and its deep water port, Subic Bay is a major strategic asset, one that will house, according to the plan, both high speed jets and littoral combat ships. The Guardian reports:

Defence undersecretary Pio Lorenzo Batino told Reuters the Philippine military signed an agreement in May with the zone's operator, the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority, to use parts of the installation under a renewable 15-year lease. It marks the first time the massive installation has functioned as a military base in 23 years.

Using Subic Bay would allow the Philippine air force and navy to respond more effectively to Chinese moves in the disputed South China Sea, security experts said. Subic Bay's deep-water harbour lies on the western side of the main Philippine island of Luzon, opposite the South China Sea.

"The value of Subic as a military base was proven by the Americans. Chinese defence planners know that," said Rommel Banlaoi, a Philippine security expert.
The Philippines is pressing its case against China in court, but that's unlikely to constrain the country even if the court sides against Beijing. Manila knows that ultimately it's a weak power in its region and is therefore working outside the courtroom to change the calculus. Before this news, the most it had done recently was reinforce the rusted out shell of a beached ship that's served as a remote outpost in the Spratlys. The Subic base project is in a league of its own.

The big question that might be on the minds of Beijing's strategists is whether the U.S. will be able to use the base as well. Washington and Manila signed a defense deal in 2014 that would allow U.S. forces to use Philippine bases on a rotating basis. However, the deal's constitutionality was challenged, and the issue hangs in the balance as a Philippine court adjudicates. If the agreement makes it through the legal gauntlet, the American and Philippine militaries both get access to a key base across from the South China Sea. From Beijing's perspective, that's just the kind of thing that might change a strategic calculus about one's military advantage.

#1  OK, so after we left the mayor hired a private army to keep the looters out of subic. he turned it into an industrial port. The base housing was sold as vacation homes and the place was kept up to almost US standards. Subic city, sorry navy guys, was burned out. when you cross S&*t creek the place looks like a war zone, except for the VFW. A far different outcome to Clark.

Militants, key commander surrender in Balochistan's Sui
[DAWN] Four militants, including a key commander of a banned organisation, surrendered to security forces in Balochistan's Sui area on Friday.

The commander identified as Tota Khan Bugti laid down weapons along with three other militants before officials at a ceremony.

Frontier Corps spokesman Khan Wasey said Tota Khan Bugti was fighting against security forces for a long time in the area.

The militants handed over 4 SMGs, 20 SMG magazines, a satellite phone and other equipment to security forces.

Besides officials, tribal elders were also present during the ceremony held in Sui tehsil of Dera Bugti, Wasey said.

The surrender has come after the Balochistan government announced amnesty for youths surrendering their weapons and adopting peaceful lives in the province few days back.

In the past month, more than one hundred militants hailing from various militant organisations have laid down their weapons in Balochistan.

The government also announced a compensation policy for youth surrendering before security forces in the province.

Home Front: WoT
What we know about the gunman in Chattanooga attack
WASHINGTON -- Investigators have identified Muhammad Yousef Abdulazeez, 24, as the gunman behind Thursday's attacks on military centers in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Late Thursday investigators sealed off the home where law enforcement sources say Abdulazeez lived. It's located in Hixson, Tennessee, which is about two miles and a few minutes away from where the shootings occurred.

Federal law enforcement officials say Abdulazeez was born in Kuwait and became a naturalized U.S. citizen. His father is from Nablus in the West Bank and his mother is from Kuwait.

He was not on any U.S. terror list and the FBI was not aware of his having any terrorist leanings. Abdulazeez had been stopped by local police in April when he was booked for a DUI.

Officials will now go through his computers and any social media postings as they try to determine what motivated the gunman to act. The FBI's Ed Reinhold is leading the investigation.

"We're going to do an intense look at him to see what his connections are," said Reinhold. "We'll look at his friends, family, associates -- anybody who is associated with him to determine the cause or the reason why he conducted this attack."

Officials will try to find out if Abdulazeez was motivated or influenced by ISIS.

The group has been calling for "known lone wolf" style attacks in the U.S. on the military and police during the month of Ramadan, which concludes Friday. Over the Fourth of July holiday, federal law enforcement officials warned of the potential for an attack.

Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson has called for increased security at "certain federal facilities," out of an abundance of caution.

A week ago FBI Director James Comey said agents had made arrests to thwart Fourth of July attacks, but also acknowledged the challenges of tracking the thousands who follow ISIS on social media.

snuffies have punished at least 94 people including five teenagers, accusing them of violations during the Moslem fasting month of Ramadan, a rights group monitoring the Syrian conflict said on Thursday.

The people were flogged, hung up by their arms or put in metal cages by the Sunni Moslem myrmidon group in incidents documented since the start of Ramadan last month, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

Islamic State, which controls tracts of territory in Syria and Iraq, has regularly killed and abused people it says have violated its ultra-hardline interpretation of Islam.

Moslems who observe Ramadan across the world refrain from eating, drinking and smoking during daylight hours. Young children are not usually expected to observe the fast.

All victims survived the punishments which were carried out in Islamic State-held territory in Raqqa, Aleppo and Deir al-Zor provinces, the Britannia-based Observatory said, citing its network of contacts on the ground.

The five teenagers were aged 13 to 16. One was put in a metal cage and the other four were hung up crucifixion-style, the Observatory's founder Rami Abdulrahman said.

The opposition Shaam News portal posted a picture on its Facebook page last week showing a boy hanging by his arms with a sign around his neck saying "Broke fast without justifiable excuse under sharia."

's Egypt affiliate, Sinai Province, has grabbed credit for Thursday's missile attack on a naval boat off the Mediterranean coast of Egypt.

The Egyptian army said in a statement earlier that the patrol boat was chasing bully boyz off the coast of Rafah, a town in North Sinai, and had exchanged gunfire with them. The boat caught on fire as a result, but the incident left no fatalities, the military said.

Sinai Province released a statement saying its jihadists had carried out a rocket attack on a naval vessel belonging to the "apostasy army" in the eastern Mediterranean.

The volatile North Sinai region, where Rafah is located, is an epicenter of a mounting Islamist insurgency that has killed hundreds of members of the security forces since the 2013 ouster of Islamist president Mohammed Morsi.

The first kaboom took place outside a footwear shop around 1620 GMT, followed by a second kaboom just minutes later, said Badamasi Amin, a local trader who counted at least three bodies.

He said the area was crowded with customers doing some last-minute shopping on the eve of the Eid festival marking the end of the Moslem fasting month of Ramadan.

"I was about 70 metres (yards) from the scene" when the first blast struck, he told AFP.

"I and many other people rushed to assist the victims. While we were trying to attend to the maimed, another blast happened outside a china shop just opposite the footwear shop.

"Several people were killed and many more were maimed," he added.

Ali Nasiru, another trader, said he saw "people lying lifeless on the ground".

"Traders and shoppers helped in evacuating the victims to the hospital," he said. "I can't say how many people were affected but there are many."

Senior Philippine army officer injured in ambush
[Gulf Today] Two gunmen aboard a motorcycle on Thursday shot and injured a senior Philippine army officer in an ambush in Cagayan de Oro City. The victim was indentified as Colonel Edwin Respecio, the deputy commander of the 10 Regional Community Defense Group, who was shot in the head in front of the regional office of the Department of Public Works and Highways in Cagayan de Oro.

A preliminary police report said Respecio was on board a vehicle when the two gunmen riding in tandem on a motorcycle shot at him, hitting him in the face. Reports later said Respecio was in stable condition at the hospital.

In a separate development, one soldier was killed and another was captured in an encounter with New People's Army in a remote village in Gingoog City, Misiamis Oriental province. Two civilians were injured when they were caught in the crossfire.

An NPA spokesman confirmed the capture of the Army corporal during the clash that occurred on Saturday afternoon. He said the soldier was being investigated but assured he would be released if it he was not found guilty of "any serious offenses against the revolutionary movement."

U.S. Presents Draft Iran Resolution to U.N.
[AnNahar] The United States Wednesday presented a draft resolution to the U.N. Security Council asking it to endorse a historic deal curtailing Iran's nuclear program, diplomats said.

The draft text seeks formal U.N. approval for the hard-won, ground-breaking agreement reached in Vienna on Tuesday after 18 days of talks.

The resolution would also replace the existing framework of Security Council sanctions with the restrictions set out in the agreement hammered out over almost two years of negotiations, which came to a climax in Vienna.

Under the deal, hammered out by six world powers and Iran, a web of sanctions will be gradually lifted as Tehran takes steps to dismantle and mothball much of its nuclear program to ensure it cannot build a bomb.

A vote on the resolution could come as early as Monday or Tuesday, a diplomat said.

It should pass with little difficulty since the five veto-wielding permanent members of the UN Security Council -- Britannia, China, La Belle France, Russia and the United States -- were among those countries which negotiated the Vienna accord.

Malian Troops Kill Jihadists on I. Coast Border
[AnNahar] Malian troops killed several jihadists near the country's southern border with Ivory Coast and destroyed the bully boys' camp in a forest straddling the frontier, a Malian army officer said Thursday.

"We have just destroyed the main military camp of the jihadists in the south, in the Sama forest located on the Ivorian border," the officer told AFP by telephone, requesting anonymity.

Since last week, Malian army parachutists known as the "Red Berets" and regular troops stationed in the frontier region of Sikasso have been conducting operations against the bully boys, the officer said.

Another Malian security source said "arms, ammunition, cycle of violences and strategic documents" were seized from the camp.

A humanitarian source said two Malian soldiers were maimed in the operation.

Malian troops on Thursday also pressed on with anti-insurgent operations in the frontier town of Fakola, which was attacked and pillaged on June 28, for which the Islamist Ansar Dine militia grabbed credit.

Jihadist attacks are normally confined to Mali's restive northern desert region but areas bordering Mauritania have been targeted since the start of the year, and southern settlements more recently.

The north came under the control of Ansar Dine -- which is Arabic for Defenders of Faith -- and two other jihadist groups, Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb and the Movement for Oneness and Jihad in West Africa, in April 2012.

A move south towards the capital by the Death Eaters, who imposed a brutal version of sharia on inhabitants, prompted Mali's former colonial master La Belle France to intervene in January 2013, pounding their positions in the north.

Their organizational structure smashed, small pockets of armed Islamists managed to remain active, and continue to carry out occasional deadly attacks in the desert.

Fatah Army launches attack on two Shiite villages in support of Zabadani: statement
[EN.ZAMANALWSL.NET] Fatah Army on Wednesday announced a major offensive on two Shiite-dominated villages in the northern province of Idlib after two years of siege, according to statement posted online by the rebel group.

The powerful alliance of Islamist groups said the new battle is in support and solidarity with rebels of Zabadani, Fatha Army said, in order to ease two week of bombardment by Syrian army and allied Hezbollah militia on the Syrian border city with Leb.

The new battle on al-Fou'a and Kefraya villages is a clear response to the Syrian army brutality in Zabadani city, according to the statement.

Fatah Army warned of Zabadani fallout, saying we do not want to repeat the scenario of Qusayr when Bashir al-Assad forces and Hezbollah captured the city in May 2013.

Army of Fatah, a reference to the conquests that spread Islam across the Middle East from the seventh century, has seized swathes of territory northern Syrian since late of March 2015 including Idlib city, Ariha and Jisr al-Shughour.

On Wednesday, regime army backed by Hezbollah has advanced deeper into the besieged Syrian city of Zabadani two weeks into a campaign to capture it from bad boys, Rooters said.

Rebels contacted by phone told Rooters although they had lost some ground in parts of the city in the last few days, they have so far repulsed advances deeper inside their stronghold.

"They have now secured what they want...any more advances would be very costly in human terms for them," said Abu Abdo, a field commander from the Ahrar al-Sham
...a Syria jihadi group made up of Islamists and salafists, not that there's that much difference, formed into a brigade. The control of the city, about 45 km (30 miles) northwest of the capital Damascus, is seen as crucial to consolidate government-held areas linking Leb and Syria. Zabadani is a former popular resort on the main Beirut-Damascus highway.

Syria's four-year-old war has killed more than 230,000 people and forced millions out of their homes.

Bangladesh
Three killed in RAB encounter
[Dhaka Tribune] The elite force has been criticised since its formation in 2004 for extrajudicial killings and giving the same version before the media after every incident of the so-called shootout or crossfire

Members of the police's elite force, Rapid Action Battalion, killed three alleged criminals including two siblings during "shootouts" in the capital and Rangpur early yesterday.

RAB and police claimed that the victims
had been charged with murder and other offences, and that they opened fire in self-defence only.

However,
a clean conscience makes a soft pillow...
family members of one of the victims Yasin Sarker Rajon alleged that the RAB personnel had picked him up on July 12.

The two others are Manik, 32, and Sumon, 27, sons of Ameer Ali of Rangpur.

Rajon, 25, was injured in a shootout between a patrol team of RAB 2 and some muggers in Taltola area of Agargaon around 2am. He departed this vale of tears at Dhaka Medical College Hospital around 4am.

In a statement, RAB confirmed death of an unidentified criminal during the shootout. They also claimed to have recovered two foreign-made pistols and seven bullets from the spot.

The elite force has been criticised since its formation in 2004 for extrajudicial killings and giving the same version before the media after every incident of the so-called shootout or crossfire.

Rajon's family came to know about the murder from the media and his brothers-in-law Ujjal Miah and Panna Miah identified him at the morgue yesterday afternoon.

They claimed that Rajon, a contractor by profession, had been picked up by RAB 2 members around 10pm on July 12. His seven month pregnant wife Shammi Akhter said Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police had filed two false cases against him recently.

Denying the forcer's having any involvement in abducting Rajon, RAB 2 Commanding Officer Lt Col SM Masud Rana said the area was not under their jurisdiction.

When contacted, Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police chief GG Biswas said the dear departed had four cases against him. Rajon was charged in one case recently.

In another incident, two brothers were killed in a shootout with the RAB members near Desh Hospital and the cantonment check post in Rangpur around 3am yesterday.

Some miscreants attacked a RAB 13 patrol team with sharp weapons when the elite force members challenged the brothers, Deputy Commander Maj Ashraf Ali said.

"The brothers were killed when the RAB members fired in self-defence," he claimed adding that Sub-Inspector Saiful Islam and Lt Imran had suffered injuries inflicted by sharp weapons.

Two pistols, bullets and sharp weapons were recovered from the spot, RAB says.

Kotwali police OC Abdul Kader Zilani said Manik and Sumon were accused in several criminal cases, including for the murder of Limon on July 12.

Kenya says university massacre mastermind killed in US drone strike in Somalia
[AlAhram] A US drone strike in Somalia has killed four senior members of the Al-Qaeda-affiliated Shabaab, including the alleged criminal mastermind of the Garissa University massacre in Kenya in April, a Kenyan interior ministry front man said Thursday.

The strike, which took place in the early hours of Thursday, claimed the life of Mohammed Mohamud -- also known by the aliases of Dulyadin, Kuno and Gamadhere -- who was on Kenya's wanted list after the massacre, front man Mwenda Njoka said.

"It was a US drone. Kenyan forces usually provide ground support, information and intelligence on such strikes," he told AFP.

In April, four Shabaab Lions of Islam massacred 148 people at the Garissa University in Kenya's northeast, in what was the group's deadliest single attack to date. Most of the victims were students.

The United States has in recent years launched numerous drone strikes against Shabaab leaders, including a strike last September that killed the group's leader Ahmed Abdi Godane.

Thursday's attack came just over a week before US President Barack Obama
Pot had helped, and booze; maybe a little blow when you could afford it. Not smack, though....
is due in Kenya for his first visit to the country since he became president.

Sources in Somalia confirmed an overnight air strike had taken place in a Shabaab area of the war-torn country.

According to traditional elders near Bardhere town in the southern Gedo region, at least two missiles struck vehicles believed to be carrying Shabaab commanders.

"We heard two big kabooms and the information we are getting indicates that vehicles were targeted close to a Shabaab military base," said Abdiwahab Ali, an elder at a village close to the scene.

"Village residents are telling us a missile fired from an aircraft struck a vehicle and a nearby military camp belonging to Shabaab," said Hassan Gesle, another elder.

Immediately after the attack the mobile phone network in Bardhere was cut off, making it impossible to reach Shabaab commanders for comment.

Ahmed Bare, Somali military officer in nearby Elwaq town, said that Shabaab commanders have been leaving Bardhere, one of the few towns still held by the Lion of Islams, ahead of a planned ground assault by Somali troops.
Ynet adds:
A Somali intelligence official says a senior commander with the Islamic Death Eater group al-Shabaab
... Somalia's version of the Taliban, functioning as an arm of al-Qaeda...
has been killed in a U.S. drone strike in southwestern Somalia.

The official told The News Agency that Dare Not be Named Thursday that the attack Wednesday night targeted a vehicle in which the al-Shabaab commander, Ismael Jabhad, and three other fighters were traveling near the rebel-held town of Bardhere. The official insisted on anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the press.

An al-Shabaab official named Abu Mohammed confirmed the attack but gave no details.

Ohio attorney general orders probe of Planned Parenthood
[WKYC] Ohio's top law enforcer says he's investigating whether Planned Parenthood
...has received federal funding since 1970, when President Richard Nixon signed into law the Family Planning Services and Population Research Act. It is sometimes described as the gynecololgical wing of the Democratic party.
may have violated its nonprofit status and made money from the sale of organs from aborted fetuses.

Attorney General Mike DeWine
...(R), Richard Michael DeWine has been the Ohio attorney general since 2010. Before that he was one of Ohio's senators (1995-2007), before that he filled a variety of elected roles at the state and federal level including Congressman and lieutenant governor, and before that he was a lawyer...
said Thursday his charitable law section is reviewing the activities at three Ohio locations of the abortion and reproductive health services provider.

The Republican's announcement follows an anti-abortion group's release of a video it made secretly showing a Planned Parenthood official discussing the disposal of body parts from aborted fetuses. Three congressional committees are investigating the matter.

DeWine called the video "truly horrifying" and said if money was made from the practice it might be illegal.

Planned Parenthood says it legally helps women who want to make not-for-profit donations of their fetus' organs for scientific research and doesn't profit.

Afghanistan
Achin District Residents Tell of Nightmare Under Daesh
[Tolo News] Residents from Achin district in Nangarhar
The unfortunate Afghan province located adjacent to Mohmand, Kurram, and Khyber Agencies. The capital is Jalalabad. The province was the fief of Younus Khalis after the Soviets departed and one of his sons is the current provincial Taliban commander. Nangarhar is Haqqani country..
province - who have escaped the area - say snuffies associated with Daesh are having a devastating effect on the lives of the locals which has led hundreds of people to flee the area.

They say Daesh has imposed major acts of oppression against them and that the security situation in the area is critical.

According to them, the presence of Daesh has forced them to seek refuge in Nangarhar's Shahi district. They claim that Daesh is systematically destroying their homes, by burning them down, plundering their properties.

However,
Caliphornia hasn't yet slid into the ocean, no matter how hard it's tried...
they told TOLOnews they were just happy to get to safety, without any loss of life.

One refugee, Zirgul said: "Daesh does not have mercy on anyone. They kill anyone they find including women, elderly people and children and even the animals."

A number of children, who have witnessed brutality metered out on locals by Daesh Death Eaters, were visibly shocked and traumatized, reports Sharif Amiri, who visited the area this week.

Shahidullah is 12 years old and described the horrors he experienced. "I was really afraid of Daesh after they killed our neighbor," he said.
Naqibullah is also member of a displaced family who says that at least 150 people from his district are still in the custody of Daesh as hostages.

"My father and uncle are among the 150 hostages who failed to escape with us," Naqibullah said.

Another resident, Mohammad Babur, said that the snuffies who fight in the area on behalf of Daesh are Pak nationals.

Meanwhile,
...back at the bunker, his Excellency called the chief of staff and complained that the artillery was keeping him awake...
the governor of Nangarhar province Saleem Khan Kunduzi has confirmed that Paks are fighting in the area under the banner of Daesh.
"They brought me a passport belonging to a Daesh fighter and it was a Pak passport," Kunduzi said.

So far Daesh has conducted several deadly attacks in various parts of Nangarhar which is considered a major economic highway for Afghanistan.

Meanwhile,
...back at the bunker, his Excellency called the chief of staff and complained that the artillery was keeping him awake...
security officials on Wednesday said that Pakistain's spy agency and military troops are directly supporting Death Eaters through Arclight airstrikes and ground festivities in the eastern Paktia province.

In addition, officials say that a bigwig from Pakistain's Inter-Services Intelligence
...the Pak military intelligence agency that controls the military -- heads of ISI typically get promoted into the Chief of Army Staff position. It serves as a general command center for favored turban groups such as Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammad, tries to influence the politix of neighboring countries, and carries out a (usually) low-level war against India in Kashmir...
(ISI) is leading the battle against Afghan cops in the Samkanai district of Paktia. Officials also say that at least 600 Pak militia are involved in the battle.

However,
Caliphornia hasn't yet slid into the ocean, no matter how hard it's tried...
the Afghan cops have succeeded in clearing Samkanai of Death Eaters following a fierce 14-day battle.

Paktia, which is a heavily wooded area, provides plenty of trees for Death Eaters to take cover behind -- including Pak militia.

Ghani Says Peace Talks to Start in Two Weeks
[Tolo News] Government officials announced on Thursday night that official peace talks with the Taliban will start on ‎July 30th.

Earlier in the day, President Ashraf Ghani
...former chancellor of Kabul University, now president of Afghanistan. Before returning to Afghanistan in 2002 he was a scholar of political science and anthropology. He worked at the World Bank working on international development assistance. As Finance Minister of Afghanistan between July 2002 and December 2004, he led Afghanistan's attempted economic recovery until the Karzais stole all the money. ..
discussed the issue while visiting the families of victims of last week's deadly suicide kaboom in eastern Khost province
... across the border from Miranshah, within commuting distance of Haqqani hangouts such as Datta Khel and probably within sight of Mordor. Khost is populated by six different tribes of Pashtuns, the largest probably being the Khostwal, from which it takes its name...
.

The suicide kaboom left at least 27 innocent civilians dead, including women and kiddies.

"Peace is the desire of all people," Ghani said, calling the recent talks held between Afghan government and Taliban representatives in Islamabad a great achievement. "We tried for 14 years to get peace negotiations started but we failed."

The Taliban are Afghans, not foreigners, Ghani told those gathered to here him speak on Thursday. "They should bring us their written concerns because there isn't any issue in the world that cannot be resolved by dialogue. This issue can't be concluded with war," he said.

According to the president, the next round of talks, which are expected to take on more of a negotiating tone, will begin within 15 days, after Eid-al-Fitr. While the last round took place in Islamabad, they next is planned to take place somewhere in China. The government in Beijing has been cited as a crucial source of pressure for getting Pakistain to urge the Taliban toward talks.

The Afghan High Peace Council (HPC), the body formed for the expressed purpose of building bridges of peace between the Afghan government and the Taliban, has said that all arrangements and preparations have been made for the upcoming talks. HPC officials have said that in this next round the Afghan government will ask the Taliban for a ceasefire.

"Efforts have been accelerated for the second round of talks, so that a clear peace agenda is prepared," HPC member Maulavi Shafiullah Shafi Nuristani said on Thursday. "We are also working to prepare the list of negotiators," he added.

According to Mohammad Natiqi, who was a member of the government's peace delegation in Islamabad, efforts have been made to solicit feedback from stakeholders in Afghan society on what priorities should be pursued in the negotiations. "The views of various segments of society that the president has consulted about peace have been gathered in the shape of a book," Natiqi told TOLOnews. "The recommendations of the government of Afghanistan will be enlisted from the same views in the peace negotiation talks."

However,
a hangover is the wrath of grapes...
the number of government peace negotiators expected to participate in the next round of talks has yet to be finalized. On the other hand, it is rumored that the Taliban will attend the next round of talks with more negotiators than it did the first round.

Daesh, Taliban rise in east Afghanistan angers locals
[AA.TR] Afghans in the country's troubled eastern Nangarhar
The unfortunate Afghan province located adjacent to Mohmand, Kurram, and Khyber Agencies. The capital is Jalalabad. The province was the fief of Younus Khalis after the Soviets departed and one of his sons is the current provincial Taliban commander. Nangarhar is Haqqani country..
province expressed their anger on Thursday about a surge in militancy they have witnessed in recent months.

Lying between the capital Kabul
...the capital of Afghanistan. Home to continuous fighting from 1992 to 1996 between the forces of would-be strongman and Pak ISI/Jamaat-e-Islami sock puppet Gulbuddin Hekmayar and the Northern Alliance, a period which won Hek the title Most Evil Man in the World and didn't do much for the reputations of the Northern Alliance guys either....
and the restive Pakistain border, the province has seen an uptick in violence in recent months with a growing presence of fighters claiming to represent the Syria-based Death Eater group Daesh.

The new group's presence has sparked violent festivities with the Taliban and invited a campaign of U.S. drone strikes aimed at wiping it out.

Local elders gathered in the picturesque provincial capital Jalalabad and met with a delegation from the upper house of parliament, the Masharano Jirga, to send a unanimous message about their concerns to the central government in Kabul.

Abdul Basir Sabawoon, a local community elder, said it was a "war-like" situation in some of the border districts and that the government should be consulting local representatives about how to act.

Sabawoon criticized the senate delegation for "being confined to the Royal Palace and traveling in VIP convoys that give very little understanding about the realities."

While the parliamentary delegation's head Dr. Zalmay Zabuli claimed the security situation was not as bleak as portrayed in the press another member, Senator Lutfullah Baba, held the opposite view, claiming the security forces had lost control of several districts to Death Eaters.

"One day hard boyz cross over from Pakistain with Daesh flags and dictate terms over locals, the next day Talibs come from the same place and spread terror," Baba claimed, suggesting that the hard boyz sheltered across the border in Pakistain.

U.S. drone strikes in Nangarhar have killed more than 100 Taliban and Daesh hard boyz in the past week.

According to Afghanistan's intelligence agency the National Directorate for Security, the chief of Daesh in Afghanistan Hafiz Saeed
...founder of Lashkar-e-Taiba and its false-mustache offshoot Jamaat-ud-Dawa. The United Nations declared the JuD a terrorist organization in 2008 and Hafiz Saeed a terrorist as its leader. Hafiz, JuD and LeT are wholly-owned subsidiaries of the Pak intel apparatus, so that amounted to squat...
Khan, his second-in-command and another big shot, the former Pak Taliban front man Shahidullah Shahid were all killed in the drone strikes.

Last week press freedom advocates Reporters Without Borders claimed that regions like Nangarhar and neighboring Badakshan were becoming "black holes" for information because hard boyz were threatening journalists.

Mullah Omar's approval
[DAWN] IT was a familiar missive before Eid, though the contents were anything but. Mullah Omar
... a minor Pashtun commander in the war against the Soviets who made good as leader of the Taliban. As ruler of Afghanistan, he took the title Leader of the Faithful. The imposition of Pashtunkhwa on the nation institutionalized ignorance and brutality in a country already notable for its own fair share of ignorance and brutality...
, the reclusive, powerful leader of the Afghan Taliban, appears to have chimed in with his support for talks with the Afghan government led by President Ashraf Ghani
...former chancellor of Kabul University, now president of Afghanistan. Before returning to Afghanistan in 2002 he was a scholar of political science and anthropology. He worked at the World Bank working on international development assistance. As Finance Minister of Afghanistan between July 2002 and December 2004, he led Afghanistan's attempted economic recovery until the Karzais stole all the money. ..
. Consider the several ways in which the Taliban supremo's cautious, almost veiled endorsement of talks -- the statement attributed to Mullah Omar made no mention of the Murree meeting -- is still an important milestone. For one, there has been persistent speculation, especially in the IS camp and among Taliban hardline field commanders, that Mullah Omar may not be alive. For another, the recent Taliban-Afghan government interaction in Urumqi was dismissed forcefully by a Taliban spokesperson. In addition, the Afghan Taliban had long rejected the idea of talks with the Afghan government, demanding instead to speak to the American-led occupation force. There is, therefore, at the very minimum, a great deal of interest in Mullah Omar's statement of support for the idea of talks -- this being a radical break from the past.

What could have nudged the Taliban supreme leader to lend his tacit support to talks? There appear to be at least three reasons. One, the Pak security establishment has seemingly decided to up the ante and put further pressure on the Afghan Taliban to come to the negotiating table. Two, the Afghan Taliban appear to be wary of ingress by IS, which while it has not yet demonstrated a meaningful capability inside Afghanistan, does continue to seemingly chip away at the monolithic Afghan Taliban. The US drone strikes in Afghanistan that have targeted Lions of Islam who have aligned themselves with IS suggest a common enemy of the US and the Afghan Taliban that perhaps could be used to help lower tensions between the two. Third, the Afghan Taliban appear to, at the very least, have internal tensions, if not divisions, about the way ahead. Mullah Omar, in lending his support to the idea of talks, has indicated on which side of the hardliner-moderate divide he would prefer the Taliban to be. From here on, it should begin to become clear on which side of that divide the various field commanders stand. It is difficult to imagine many turning against the leader who has dominated the Afghan Taliban for over 20 years, but there is a new generation to contend with. The months ahead should be very interesting, and possibly crucial.

North Cameroon Bans Full Islamic Veil after Suicide Attacks
[AnNahar] A northern region of Cameroon
...a long, narrow country that fills the space between Nigeria and Chad on the northeast, CAR to the southeast. Prior to incursions by Boko Haram nothing ever happened there...
, which has suffered frequent attacks by the jihadist Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
group, has banned the use of the full Islamic veil, governor Bakari Midjiyawa said Thursday.

"The full veil is completely forbidden" in the Far North region, where two women suicide kaboomers who were wearing the covering killed 11 people on Sunday, Midjiyawa told AFP.

"We have asked... police to question any woman who wears the full veil," he added.

On Saturday, in another sign of Boko Haram's threat to regional security, a jacket wallah disguised as a woman in a full-face veil went kaboom! in Chad's capital N'Djamena, killing 15.

The full veil is banned in Moslem-majority Chad.

Midjiyawa admitted the northern Cameroon ban would not be enough to stop jihadists from committing atrocities.

"A terrorist can easily hide an explosive under a robe or in a jacket," he said, as he announced other bans including on tinted windows for vehicles and on cycle of violence traffic at night.

"The faceless myrmidons change strategy all the time, and we must adjust," Midjiyawa added.

Boko Haram's deadly insurgency has killed at least 15,000 people since 2009 and left more than 1.5 million homeless.

The group's recent upsurge in attacks on civilians comes after a four-nation coalition of Nigeria, Niger, Chad and Cameroon pushed out the turbans from captured territory earlier this year.

In addition, the Iraqi army regained control over the al-Hitaween region South of Fallujah. It also captured ISIL positions in the town of al-Karmah, killing a number of terrorists.

Home Front: WoT
Tennessee gunman wrote about Islam in blog
The gunman who killed four Marines at two military facilities in Chattanooga, Tenn., on Tuesday reportedly kept a blog briefly to chronicle religious thoughts.
Very briefly...
Mohammad Youssuf Abdulazeez’s blog had only two posts, both dated July 13, according to the Daily Beast. In the first, he wrote that life is a test “designed to separate the inhabitants of Paradise from the inhabitants of Hellfire.”

"I would imagine that any sane person would devote their time to mastering the information on the study guide and stay patient with their studies, only giving time for the other things around to keep themselves focused on passing the exam," the blog post reads. "They would do this because they know and have been told that they will be rewarded with pleasures that they have never seen."

In the second, he writes that Muslims’ understanding of the companions of Prophet Mohammad is similar to how blind men can feel an elephant but still not understand what it is.

The blog post said that at least some Muslims “keep a tunnel vision of what we think Islam is.”

Hours after the gunman opened fire in Chattanooga, the FBI confirmed the identity of the shooter as 24-year-old Abdulazeez, reportedly a naturalized citizen from Kuwait.

“While it would be premature to speculate on the motives of the shooter at this time, we will conduct a thorough investigation of this tragedy and provide updates as they are available,” the FBI said in a statement.
If he had been wearing a Confederate flag, I think the FBI would be a little more willing to speculate on motives...

Afghanistan
Suicide Bomber Targets Helmand Police Check Post
[Tolo News] Health officials said at least six police were killed on Wednesday evening when a jacket wallah targeted a police check post in Lashkargah city of southern Helmand
...an Afghan province populated mostly by Pashtuns, adjacent to Injun country in Pak Balochistan...
province, health officials said.

There were however conflicting reports on casualties with health officials from the Helmand Emergency Hospital claiming six coppers died. But a provincial front man said no deaths were recorded but four coppers were maimed.

The attack occurred on Wednesday when a suicide bomber detonated his explosives at a police check post in Bolan in Lashkargah.
No civilian casualties were reported.

No krazed killer group including the Taliban have grabbed credit for the attack.

Arabia
Hamas' Mashal in rare visit to Saudi Arabia
[Ynet] Meetings between Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason,, Saudi officials come just days after Iran's deal with the West and increasing fears of an ever-more influential Iran.

Hamas' political leader Khaled Mashal arrived for a rare visit with officials in Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
late Wednesday night, suggesting that Riyahd seeks closer relations with the Gazoo-based organization in order to offset a feared increase of Iranian influence in the region.

Mashal's visit to the kingdom comes just two days after Western powers signed a deal with Iran over its nuclear deal that will eventually result in the lifting of all sanctions currently employed against the Ayatollahs.

Other Hamas officials will join Mashal in Saudi Arabia including Mashal's deputy Mousa Mohammed Abu Marzook and Saleh al-Aarori, who resides in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
and is considered in Israel to be responsible for building and maintaining Hamas infrastructure in the West Bank.

The visit is the first of its kind in three years and Israeli officials have consistently voiced concern that an Iran free of sanctions will increase funding for groups across the Middle East, like Hamas, that want to harm Israel.

Mashal has been a strong supporter of the Saudi-Egyptian alliance and he's made public Hamas' agreement with Saudi Arabia's police of bombing Houthi
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The Yemeni government has accused the Houthis of having ties to the Iranian government, which wouldn't suprise most of us. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews ...
rebels in Iran who are funded and armed by Iran. Hamas' leadership is divided however, and many officials within the organization have shown open support for Saudi Arabia's Iranian opponent.

Most of Iran's supporters within Hamas come from the organizations military wing, which has often depended on Iranian financial and military support to rebuild their capabilities in the Gazoo Strip.

Saudi-Backed Forces in Yemen Claim Victories in Aden Battle
[BLOOMBERG] Yemeni forces backed by Saudi Arclight airstrikes said they made progress in the battle to oust Houthi
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews ...
rebels from the southern port city of Aden, two days after they recaptured the city's international airport.

Forces loyal to Yemen's exiled President Abdurabuh Mansur Hadi entered the commercial district of Crater and seized large parts of the port area of Mualla, Mahmud Shaker, a local resident, said by telephone. Hadi hailed a "great victory in Aden" in a televised speech, and Saudi-owned Al Arabiya television said the city had been "liberated." Houthi officials didn't answer telephone calls Thursday seeking comment on the situation in Aden.

The advance against the rebels in Aden marks the first major success since the Saudis and allies began a bombing campaign against the Houthis in March, soon after the rebels drove Hadi and his government out of Aden, their last stronghold in the country. They sought refuge in Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
.

Al Arabiya television reported that the interior, transportation and deputy health ministers in Hadi's government had returned to Aden. State-controlled Saba news agency hasn't reported their arrival.

The escalation of the conflict in Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic...
has led the United Nations
...the Oyster Bay money pit...
and other agencies to warn of the risk of a humanitarian disaster. A UN-brokered cease-fire last week failed to take hold.

Joint Chiefs Staff On Obama: "The Most Dangerous Kind Of Arrogance"
[DCWhispers] Since becoming President of the United States and this nation's Commander in Chief, Barack Obama has had a consistently strained relationship between himself and the U.S. military. It appears that relationship has reached an all new low following what some are indicating to be among the most lopsided and disastrous negotiations in all of American history.

General Dempsey is said to have made repeated overtures to the White House in the final weeks of the now infamous Iran nuclear negotiations. The primary sticking point was the administration's initial desire to immediately lift restrictions on conventional weapons sales to the Iranian government, an action lobbied for heavily by both Russia and China who hope to make billions off of future military deals with Iran.

Dempsey was repeatedly pushed off to State Department officials who assured the Joint Chiefs Chairman his concerns would be "shared with others" within the State Department and that he would be better served limiting the sharing of his views with Secretary of Defense, Ashton Carter. This process is rumored to have first annoyed Dempsey and then eventually infuriated him to the point he was openly criticizing a sitting president to military staff, something said to be well beyond his normal pattern of behavior.

"General Dempsey has always been a company guy. That's why the White House put him there. They wanted someone who kept quiet and followed orders. That relationship began to fall apart during the Iran nuclear negotiations and then blew up in the final days when he went to Congress and on record issued a public ultimatum. There was to be no immediate allowance for weapons sales to Iran by other nations. Instead, the Obama White House and Iranian representatives agreed to continue freezing such sales for an additional five to eight years. The White House blinked."

If he was feeling any satisfaction over getting at least some of his concerns finally addressed, General Dempsey was apparently not sharing that satisfaction with those around him. Instead, staff close to the general had this to say regarding the Obama White House:

"Rank amateurs and the most dangerous kind of arrogance. China dominated these negotiations from the beginning to the end and the White House seemed more than happy to let it happen."

#3  I cannot believe that the POTUS has willingly allowed Iran to have the bomb.

What planet are we living on? Does anybody remember Christopher Hitchens saying Hezbollah (Iran) had changed their icon for use at rallies to be a mushroom cloud?

Obama is the worst US president in history. Under his watch we have:

* Nuclear armed Iran
* Rise of IS, unchecked
* Rise of domestic Islamofascism, unchecked and denied
* Race riots. Ironic as he is the first black president.

Holy crap.

I am living in a nation of 20 million people that depends on the US for existence. less than 100km to the north lies a 250-million Islamic nation with a rising tide of Islamofascism, where Hizb ut-Tahrir rallied last month with 300,000 members - like the Nuremburg rallies. A nation that has made compulsory halal certification on all food, pharma and cosmetics meaning ordinary citizens must subsidise the building of mosques and the further spread of Islamofascism.

We rely on the US security guarantee to stop the Indons from invading us.

, which has called on supporters to carry out attacks in the kingdom and killed 25 people in two suicide kabooms at Shi'ite Moslem mosques in the country's east in May.

"While security officers were manning one of the security checkpoints on Ha'er Road in Riyadh, they directed the driver of a suspected car to stop. The driver initiated an kaboom which led to his death," the ministry said in a statement, adding the blast injured two officers.

The south from Riyadh to Ha'er prison, home to 1,375 detainees who were mainly convicted of Death Eater crimes, its director told Rooters during a visit there this month.

The road passes through southern suburbs of the city before a series of checkpoints start shortly before the prison, which is behind a series of high walls and fences accessed through several well-guarded gates.

The detention of thousands of Saudi Islamists accused or convicted of militancy over the past decade has angered many conservative Sunni Moslems in the kingdom, prompting some rare protests from 2011-13.

Two Saudis linked to a suicide kaboom in Kuwait last month took part in those protests, local media reported at the time.

Texas Challenges Federal Reserve, Opens Gold Backed Bank
[TheNewAmerican] The State of Texas is setting up a gold-backed bank that will allow depositors to bypass the controversial Federal Reserve System and its fiat currency in banking and commerce, according to the state representative who authored the recently enacted law. Under the measure, passed overwhelmingly by lawmakers and signed in mid-June by Republican Governor Greg Abbott, Lone Star State officials will establish and operate the Texas Bullion Depository for anyone who would like to deposit and trade in precious metals. The implications are as big as Texas.

While some analysts have said the move may be another sign heralding Texas' eventual secession from the union, or preparation for financial Armageddon, its advocates say the depository simply makes financial sense. Among other benefits, the institution will provide more options to consumers weary of the increasingly troubled traditional banking and monetary system, which is viewed by the public with growing suspicion. And experts say the effect of making it easier to use sound money in commerce could be far-reaching.

Among other immediate effects, the law creating the first state-level gold-backed bank in the nation, House Bill 483, will involve repatriating about $1 billion of Texas gold from New York. Conflicting news reports and official statements say the state's precious metals stockpile is being held either by HSBC in New York, or by the powerful New York Federal Reserve Bank, a privately owned outfit cloaked in secrecy with immense power over the U.S. economy. First, though, officials will need to select a home for the Texas depository.
With both parties in DC running up the debt and the reserve printing tons of fiat paper money, Texans decides they will not be part of another Greece.

Bangladesh
Time to stop condoning violence
[Dhaka Tribune] It is disgraceful that it was not until after a video showing an orphanage official beating up two maidens of tender years in Barisal went viral that authorities took any action to stop their abuse.

The 18-minute-long video posted last weekend shows the two eight and nine-year-old girls being continually hit by a health assistant of the orphanage.

While the staff member involved has been suspended following intervention by the DC and social welfare department, the orphanage superintendent has shown indifference by saying the girls were subjected to "disciplinary actions" after wandering off the premises. This shows total disregard for the outlawing of corporal punishment in all educational institutions.

Unfortunately, we cannot be surprised that a public official with a duty of care towards children should openly express such indifference to the law.

As the shocking murder of Sheikh Samiul Alam Rajon, the 13-year-old boy tortured to death in Sylhet, shows, people habitually look away from violence against others.

Sadly, we believe these examples of callousness in the face of brutality are not rare outliers. The indifference shown reflects a deep-seated tolerance for disrespect and assaults against other persons that is embedded in our society.

Everyone has seen the impunity with which poor rickshaw-pullers get hit all the time by law enforcement officers. Many people do not give a second thought to hitting someone physically weaker or socially less powerful than themselves, whether it be a child, spouse, or servant. An even greater number look the other way, or seek to justify their actions.

We must change the ingrained mindset that considers beating people up as sometimes acceptable, when violence should never be tolerated.

If we want to prevent the most extreme forms of violence, we have to stop ignoring and indulging violence within households.

We have to stop tolerating all forms of physical abuse.

Libyan commander killed as offensive against Islamists stalls
[EN.ZAMANALWSL.NET] Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
snuffies said they killed a Libyan army commander in the eastern city of Benghazi on Wednesday, as a pro-government offensive against the Islamists appeared to stall.

Forces loyal to Libya's internationally recognized government have been fighting Islamist groups in the country's second-largest city for over a year, part of a wider struggle since Muammar Qadaffy
...The late megalomaniac dictator of Libya, admired everywhere for his garish costumes, funny hats, harem of cutie bodyguards, and incoherent ravings. As far as is known, he is the only person who's ever declared jihad on Switzerland...
was tossed and killed in 2011.

Army forces backed by armed residents have regained some of the territory in Benghazi lost last year. But critics say their air strikes and artillery have pounded parts of Benghazi into rubble without gaining much ground.

New festivities erupted on Wednesday in the Lithi district, a stronghold of bad boy Islamists. During the fighting, Salem al-Naili, the commander of a special forces brigade, and another soldier were killed, army officials said. Four more soldiers were maimed.

Islamic State, which has expanded in Libya by exploiting a vacuum as two governments vie for control, grabbed credit on social media for Naili's killing.

Islamic State and other bad boy groups have been getting support from groups in Tunisia, Algeria, Chad, Nigeria and Sudan, a top army commander told news hounds after meeting with senior commanders in Marj town east of Benghazi.

Asked when the Benghazi battle would be finished, the commander, Khalifa Haftar
... served in the Libyan army under Muammar Qadaffy, and took part in the coup that brought Qadaffy to power in 1969. He became a prisoner of war in Chad in 1987. While held prisoner, he and his fellow officers formed a group hoping to overthrow Qadaffy. He was released around 1990 in a deal with the United States government and spent nearly two decades in the United States, gaining US citizenship. In 1993, while living in the United States, he was convicted in absentia of crimes against the Jamahiriya and sentenced to death. Haftar held a senior position in the anti-Qadaffy forces in the 2011 Libyan Civil War. In 2014 he was commander of the Libyan Army when the General National Congress (GNC) refused to give up power in accordance with its term of office. Haftar launched a campaign against the GNC and its Islamic fundamentalist allies. His campaign allowed elections to take place to replace the GNC, but then developed into a civil war. Guess you can't win them all...
, said: "I cannot give a date but it will be very soon."

U.N. Special Envoy Bernardino Leon disputed that. "In Benghazi, festivities ... continue with neither side making significant gains," he told the U.N Security Council.

The fighting for Benghazi highlights the chaos in Libya, where gangs back two governments vying for control. The official prime minister has been based in the east since the capital, Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
, was seized by a rival group which set up its own government.

Both sides command loose coalitions of former anti-Qadaffy rebels. After Qadaffy's ouster, the various factions split along political, regional and tribal lines.

Islamic State has exploited the chaos by taking over several towns, executing foreigners and launching attacks against embassies in Tripoli.

Europe
France Foils 'Terror' Attack on Military
[AnNahar] Three young men, including a former naval signalman, were being held Thursday by La Belle France's intelligence services, accused of plotting to kidnap and decapitate a member of the armed forces at a military base.

Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve said security forces staged dawn raids on Monday and tossed in the calaboose
Drop the rosco, Muggsy, or you're one with the ages!
four people, aged between 16 and 23, who were "planning to commit a terrorist act" at a French military installation.

The youngest was quickly released but the other three are suspected of planning to kidnap and behead a member of the military on film, possibly on December 31 when the facility was thinly staffed.

The oldest of the group served as a navy signalman at the base around the southern town of Collioure, which is also used for training by elite commando forces. Identified only as Djebril, he was discharged from the navy in January 2014 for back problems, said a source close to the investigation, and the target is thought to have been his former boss.

The other key plotter was just 17, and was already being closely watched by authorities due to his activities on social media and connections to French jihadists in prison.

All three had been planning to travel to jihadist-controled areas of Syria, the security source said, but the 17-year-old's mother became concerned about his radicalization and contacted the authorities.
Thank goodness for concerned mothers.
He was interviewed by counter-terrorism officials and was aware he was under surveillance.

No weapons were found during the arrests, the source said, although officials discovered documents on preparing explosives.

The news of the arrests followed a statement from President Francois Hollande
...the Socialist president of La Belle France, an economic bad joke for la Belle France but seemingly a foreign policy realist...
, who said attacks had been thwarted in recent days.

"This week, we stopped terrorist attacks which could have taken place," Hollande said on a visit to the southern city of Marseille.

La Belle France remains on high alert more than six months after jihadist attacks in January that claimed 17 lives and started with shootings at satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo
...A lefty French satirical magazine, home of what may well be the majority if the active testicles left in Europe...
The suspected plotters are now in the custody of La Belle France's intelligence services, the DGSI, and anti-terrorism prosecutors in Gay Paree have opened a probe.

"We are facing a terrorist threat that we have never seen before -- an external threat and an internal threat," said Prime Minister Manuel Valls.

News of the foiled attack came a day after two blasts on Tuesday at a petrochemical plant near Marseille, described by Cazeneuve as a "criminal act". Investigators had yet to pin down a motive for the kabooms and there was currently "no link" with the foiled attack on the military base, he added.

The government says there are 1,850 French citizens or people living in La Belle France who are "implicated" in jihadist networks, with around 500 in Syria or Iraq.

La Belle France, which is home to Europe's largest Moslem population, has beefed up security, posting 30,000 coppers and soldiers outside 5,000 sites deemed "sensitive" such as schools and places of worship.

Authorities have also set up a hotline for friends or family concerned that someone could be tempted to wage jihad -- an effort that has yielded 2,500 leads.

Following controversial "anti-terror" laws passed last year, La Belle France is also preventing suspected jihadists from leaving the country -- some 118 travel bans have been enforced since the legislation was passed in November. Cazeneuve said 29 people had been prevented from entering the country in that time. A further 40 "preachers of hate, including pseudo-, self-proclaimed imams" had been kicked out of La Belle France.

Gay Paree has also tightened security around sensitive sites such as factories, calling for "maximum vigilance", although experts have warned it is extremely difficult to defend against attacks on such locations.
Rudaw adds:
The suspects, aged between 16 and 23, were arrested Monday at four separate locations around France, Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve said.

The minister said authorities break up similar plots every week in France, where more than 300 people have been implicated in jihadi activities since 2012.
