Shaboobs kaboom hotel in Mogadishu
Somalia’s al Shabaab Islamist group launched a suicide bomb attack on a hotel in the center of Mogadishu on Saturday before militant fighters stormed the building, a police officer said.

The official gave no details of any casualties and there was no immediate comment from al Shabaab, which frequently carries out attacks in the capital in its bid to topple the Western-backed government.

“They started with a suicide bomb and then stormed in. Now they are inside and the heavy exchange of gunfire continues,” Major Nur Farah told Reuters.

He said Nasahablood hotel had been targeted. “It is too early to give details,” he added.

In previous years, al Shabaab has often intensified attacks during Ramadan, often picking targets where people gather just before or after breaking the fast.

Britain
Woman Lets Strangers On The Street Touch Her Naked Body In The Name Of Feminism
[Daily Caller] Police arrested a woman in London Sunday because she let the public touch her naked body in the name of "women’s rights."

Milo Moire hosted her "Mirror Box" show in London’s Trafalgar Square, reports the Daily Mail. She placed mirror boxes over her breasts and waist and invited anyone over 18 to touch her for 30 seconds. She did this to advocate a woman’s right to decide when she can be touched.

"However, women decide for themselves when and how they want to be touched and when they don’t. Today, you have the chance to touch the box for thirty seconds and feel free. It doesn’t matter if you’re a woman or a man," Moire told the Mirror Online before her exhibition.

After some people complained about the indecency, police arrested and charged Moire with public indecency. She later appeared before court, pleaded guilty and was fined approximately $1,000, according to the Mirror Online.

Europe
EU Weenies Thow A Fit, Want UK Out ASAP
The temper tantrum begins...
My response to this would be a) cut off all payments to the EU immediately and b) make Nigel Farage Prime Minister.
A senior EU leader has confirmed the bloc wants Britain out as soon as possible, warning that David Cameron’s decision to delay the start of Brexit negotiations until his successor is in place may not be fast enough.

Cameron announced on Friday morning that he would step down as prime minister by the autumn, after the British public caused a political earthquake by voting 52%-48% to leave the European Union.

Martin Schulz, the president of the European parliament, told the Guardian that EU lawyers were studying whether it was possible to speed up the triggering of article 50 of the Lisbon treaty ‐ the untested procedure for leaving the union.
I'm gonna have a smile all damn day now.

#2  Posturing. Untangling Britain from the EU will no doubt take a good deal longer than the two years prescribed... and that from the date Parliament votes to pass the bill into law, not the date of the vote.. The Brexit vote was a mere referendum, a sense of the people, if you will. Like us, Britain is a representative democracy.

Texting - Arthritis timebomb
[Daily Mail] Fifty years or older is usually the average age bracket for developing arthritis, but now experts say the bar has been lowered.

Hand surgeon Dr. Mark Ciaglia told FOX5 that he is seeing more patients 40 years old and younger dealing with the painful inflammation and stiffness in their joints.

And it is the 23 hours adults spend texting and the seven hours children are gaming each day that are dooming our generation to develop arthritis, warns experts.

'With the advent of texting and video games and excessive use of computers and typing you're wearing the joints out sooner so we're actually seeing a shift in the demographics of patients that get the arthritis because they're just wearing their joints out so much sooner,' Ciaglia, who works at Woodlands Center for Specialty Surgery in Texas, said.

Experts have said that developing arthritis from texting, emailing and playing games has to do with the continuous motion of your fingers, combined with poor posture.

Barbell strangles former UN official John Ashe
[Guardian] John Ashe, a former president of the UN general assembly, has been killed by a barbell weight while he remained under investigation over corruption claims by US authorities.

Ashe, who was accused by US prosecutors of taking bribes, died from neck trauma he suffered while lifting the barbell, a medical examiner concluded on Thursday.

The announcement came a day after police responded to a medical emergency call at Ashe’s residence in Dobbs Ferry, New York.

Ashe, 61, was pronounced dead from "traumatic asphyxia" after he had been on a bench lifting the barbell, said an official with the Westchester County Office of the Medical Examiner.

The Grand Turk
NASA Cancels All Travel to COSPAR Meeting in Istanbul
NASA is denying all travel for NASA employees and contractors to the Committee on Space Research (COSPAR) conference to be held in Istanbul, Turkey beginning just five weeks from now. The reason: security. COSPAR President Lennard Fisk worries not only about the impact on COSPAR, but the messages NASA is sending about its commitment to leadership in space science and its resolve to not let terrorism be rewarded by changing what we do.

In a June 21 memo, Al Condes, NASA Associate Administrator for International and Interagency Relations, advised NASA employees and contractors, including the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), that "the Administrator has determined that the Agency will not sponsor or process travel for the 2016 COSPAR conference." Condes added that "As Administrator Bolden has consistently stated, the safety of our NASA family is paramount."

The COSPAR meeting runs from July 30-August 7. The Condes memo acknowledges that "a significant number" of employees and contractors "have made tentative plans" to attend.

Indeed, international travel typically is booked many months in advance, often with non-refundable airline tickets. The biennial COSPAR conference is the premier event in the space science community where the world's top space scientists meet to share research results and discuss plans for new missions. It also provides a forum for broader space issues. This year's conference includes a panel on human exploration of the Moon and Mars, for example, at which NASA Deputy Administrator Dava Newman is (or was) scheduled to speak about NASA's Journey to Mars.

The Condes memo provides a link to a State Department advisory for travel to Turkey that warns U.S citizens of increased threats from terrorist groups throughout Turkey and especially advises against travel to southeastern Turkey. Istanbul is in northwestern Turkey.

The State Department advisory about Turkey is one of 43 alerts and warnings for countries around the globe. Among them are all of Europe and Israel. Administrator Bolden just returned from a trip that included France and Israel.

COSPAR President Len Fisk worries about the impact of NASA's decision not only for this COSPAR conference, but the next one, which is scheduled to be held at JPL in 2018 and for which planning will be done in Istanbul. More broadly, he wonders about NASA's commitment to global leadership in space science when a decision like this means that NASA's space scientists will be excluded from the discussions. On an even broader level, he questions what it means in terms of the U.S. response to terrorism and whether we should "reward" terrorism by changing what we do in our daily lives.

In a statement provided to SpacePolicyOnline.com, Fisk expressed his deep concerns.

NASA has cancelled all travel of NASA civil servants and contractors to the COSPAR-2016 meeting to be held in Istanbul on 30 July - 7 August. And by doing so it demonstrated that it has no intention of exerting strategic leadership in the world, and that terrorism should be rewarded. The leaders of all the major space programs will gather in Istanbul to discuss among other topics, the future of human space exploration, but NASA will be absent. The major scientists of the world will gather in Istanbul, to share the results of their research, to plan future projects, to promote international cooperation in space science, but NASA civil servants and NASA sponsored contractors will be absent. And for what reason: a misguided assumption that Istanbul is more dangerous than Paris, or Brussels, or Orlando, Florida, or for that matter Israel and Jordan where NASA Administrator Charles Bolden recently visited. Terrorism is rewarded if it causes us to cease to pursue that which is important, or for that matter our daily lives.

Fisk is the Thomas M. Donohue Distinguished University Professor of Space Science at the University of Michigan and a former NASA Associate Administrator for Space Science and Applications. He is a past chairman of the Space Studies Board at the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine.

Mexico is among the 43 State Department alerts and warnings, less for terrorism than drug-related crimes. The 2016 International Astronautical Congress (IAC) will be held in Guadalajara, Mexico the last week of September. NASA employees and contractors would be well advised to take note of NASA's action in case it makes a similar decision with regard to that meeting.

Home Front: Culture Wars
“White Trash” — a cultural and political history of an American underclass
If slavery is America’s original sin, class may be its hidden one.

It is part of our national creed that the opportunity to achieve and improve ourselves is not predetermined at birth; that upward mobility, while hard, is possible. We are not the British, after all, trapped in some "Downton Abbey" hell of self-aware stratification -- we rebelled against all that, right?

Nancy Isenberg, a professor of history at Louisiana State University, has authored a gritty and sprawling assault on this aspect of American mythmaking. Ours is very much a class-based society, she argues, and had been long before Occupy Wall Street or Bernie Sanders, long before we were a country at all. In "White Trash" Isenberg takes a very particular look at class in the United States, examining the white rural outcasts whom politicians from Andrew Jackson to Donald Trump have sought to rally, but who otherwise have remained vilified, shunned, targeted and kept apart, both physically -- in poorhouses and trailer parks, through eugenic science and discriminatory public policy -- and in the nation’s cultural imagination, where they have inspired mockery, kitsch and unceasing grimaces.

#11  Clinton is still white trash. Like I said, you can take the boy out of the trailer park...

But he is an example of hard work and brains making good, er, or bad, just on a bigger scale.

I think the way upward mobility works is that one generation after another works hard, keeps the family together and passes an ever accumulating wealth to the next generation. White or black, you don't get it by sitting around feeling sorry for yourself. It is hard.

That's why the phrase "white privilege" and Affirmative Action are particularly disturbing to a poor white boy trying his level best to make his way in America. Watch out for the backlash.

Europe
Alan Greenspan sez Brexit is the '€˜tip of the iceberg' for Europe
[Market Watch] WASHINGTON -- The global economy is suffering from even bigger woes than the decision by U.K. voters to leave the European Union, Former Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan said Friday.

"This is just the tip of the iceberg," Greenspan said in an interview on CNBC. "The global economy is in real serious trouble."
Yes, 'globalism' is in serious trouble indeed, but he stopped a bit short of saying that.
The rejection of British voters of the status quo in Europe was fueled by a "massive slowing" in the growth rate of real incomes that is widespread across Europe, Greenspan said. This, he said, is creating serious political problems that are not easy to resolve.

Behind the slowdown in income is the sharp drop in worker productivity, according to Greenspan. Governments have to cut entitlements to reflect this weakness, he said.

The biggest concern is not a recession, but stagnation, the former Fed chief said.

"The euro-area...is failing," Greenspan said.

"Greece is in real serious trouble and it is not going to continue in the euro very much longer irrespective of what is going on currently," he said.

Asked what he would do if he was still Fed chief, Greenspan said: "I would worry."

Home Front: Politix
Uprising in the Rust Belt
[Politico] They used to be Democrats. Now they really could hand Donald Trump the White House.
Pretty much as in the UK, where the average rank and file Labour voters went in favor of Brexit while their party leaders voted to remain.
CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa.--Donald Trump’s road to the White House begins here: on a four-lane highway, just east of Pittsburgh, past the roadside taverns, burned-out gas stations, and parking lots choked with weeds, up into the dark fingers of the Allegheny Mountains, and then down into the valley that was once home to steelworkers, coal miners and party-line Democrats.

Regis Karlheim once counted himself among that third group. A farmer’s son, Karlheim grew up doing two things: voting Democratic and growing potatoes. "It was a lot of good years in potatoes," he said. "Everybody and their brother grew potatoes in Cambria County."

Today Karlheim--blue-eyed, 58, and graying around the temples--spends his days behind the wheel of a giant coal truck, but the declining coal industry has hit Karlheim hard. He’s making $10,000 less than he was just three years ago, he said, and he’s worried about his mortgage. "How do you make those payments?" he asked. This spring, after years of not voting for anyone, in either party, in any presidential election, his anxiety compelled him to cast a vote in the Democratic primary. For Bernie Sanders.

His vote helped the socialist from Vermont beat Hillary Clinton in the county--while Trump won big, claiming more votes than either Democratic candidate. Since then, Clinton has sewn up her party’s nomination, but recent polls show that Cambria’s primary was no fluke: among the crucial battleground states, Pennsylvania is a tossup. Who wins the state’s precious 20 electoral votes in November will depend, in part, on people like Karlheim.

And he has some bad news for the former secretary of state. While there are some things that worry him about the GOP nominee--"We don’t know his background," Karlheim said, and "He’s a bit outspoken."--he likes that Trump is talking about jobs. "That’s what we need," which is why, Karlheim said, "In the big election ... I’m going for Trump."

Hillary Is Panicked after Brexit: "Donald Trump Has a Real Chance of Winning"
[Gateway Pundit] The media elites are pushing the meme today that the Brexit has nothing to do with Donald Trump and Donald Trump will not benefit from the shocking vote.

Government
My Family Fled Communism. Stop Pushing Soviet-Style Gun Control Here.
[LI] All this alarmism surrounding firearms in America lately is getting out of control.

I figure it’s time to offer a unique take on the issue‐one that puts American gun rights and their continued need into perspective.

From the amateurish House sit-in to the full-on assault on AR-15 semi-automatic rifles, your assumptions about Democrats pursuing full disarmanent under the guise of "gun control" are correct. They mean it.

As a Virginia gun owner and concealed handgun permit (CHP) holder myself, I hope my perspective get can you to think differently about firearms if you have doubts.

Don’t know the Second Amendment? Let me list it for you:

The Second Amendment of the United States Constitution reads: "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

But, but, but this amendment is outdated, archaic and Draconian! But, but, but there’s no explicit mention of individual gun ownership! (Nope, and nope!)

When I hear the most ardent supporters of gun control (aka disarmament) use these talking points, I cannot help but think of societies where totalitarian regimes succeeded in oppressing people by first disarming them‐like the former Soviet Union.

Golden Chains: 5 Ways America's Wealth Undermines Our Character
[PJ] "Middle-class society is being strained to the breaking point not, as Marx predicted, by ever-increasing misery but by ever-increasing affluence." -- Eric Hoffer

"Adversity makes men, and prosperity makes monsters." -- Victor Hugo

It goes without saying that it's better to be rich than poor. However, that doesn't mean that affluence doesn't have its own perils. People instinctively recognize this on a personal level. That's why fabulously wealthy villains are a staple of TV and movies. It's why we mock spoiled, rich celebrities like Meghan McCain, Paris Hilton, and Lindsay Lohan. It's why many Americans, fairly or in most cases unfairly, tend to assume that the rich don't understand what life is like for ordinary Americans. Of course, this bring to mind the following question: Why is it that so many Americans can recognize this when they see it in front of them with individuals, but fail to see the same things happening on a national level?

'No positive leads regarding Sabri's assassination or Awais's kidnapping'
[DAWN] Inspector General A.D. Khawaja on Friday said the investigation of famed qawwal Amjad Sabri’s liquidation and the kidnapping of Awais Shah, son of chief justice of Sindh High Court, has produced no positive leads till now.

"So far no positive leads have emerged in our preliminary investigations," said the IG, chairing a presser after holding a high level meeting with bigwigs.

The province’s top cop added the investigation for both cases is at an initial level.

Suhail Anwar Siyal, home minister of the province, said joint investigation teams (JIT) will be constituted for both cases.

The minister also announced a reward of Rs5 million for information leading to Sabri’s attackers. He regretted the federal government appeared reluctant to provide access to GSM locators, geo-fencing and the Nadra family tree to Sindh police.

Famed qawwal Amjad Sabri was rubbed out on Wednesday afternoon in a assassination on his car by armed motorcyclists in Liaquatabad.

The 40-year-old Sabri, son of qawwali maestro Ghulam Farid Sabri, was heading to a private TV channel to perform in a Ramazan transmission when he was attacked, police said.

The qawwal was laid to rest on Thursday in the Paposhnagar Graveyard, next to his father Ghulam Farid Sabri.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Nasrallah: Defending Aleppo is in defense of Lebanon, Syria, and Iraq
[Iraq Sun] Secretary General of Leb's Hezbollah, His Eminence Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah
The satrap of the Medes and the Persians in Leb...
, asserted that the participation of the Lebanese resistance in fighting terrorism in Syria, including its participation in defending Aleppo, is in defense of Leb and its people and future, because Leb's fate can't be separated from what is happening in Syria and Iraq.

In a speech on Friday, Nasrallah said that fighting to defend Aleppo today is in defense of Leb, Syria, Iraq, and even Jordan, which is why the resistance had to be present in Aleppo to defend it, adding "we indeed are present in large numbers in that area."

He said that what is happening in Aleppo is a fierce battle, but the Arab Gulf-funded media is carrying out a campaign of exaggeration and rumors to imply that Hezbollah is collapsing and suffering heavy losses, noting that the media team that is doing this supports ISIS in its heart.

"To evaluate the battle precisely, there have been since the beginning of June 26 deaders, one captive, and one missing person, and every other talk is inaccurate and seeks to exaggerate and carry out psychological warfare against the resistance," Nasrallah explained, adding that a universal war is taking place in Aleppo in which the Syrian Arab Army and its allies - including the resistance - stood up to the US plot and foiled it, making great achievements in that area to the point that the other side nearly collapsed and Washington stepped in and demanded a "truce" so that it can rally support for terrorist groups.

He noted that according to the documented statistics of the resistance, the losses of terrorist groups in Syria between June 1st and 24th amounts to 617 dead terrorists, including dozens of field commanders and some notorious leaders, in addition to having over 800 injured members and losing over 80 tanks and vehicles, adding "let's compare the losses of the resistance with those losses of the terrorist groups and see if their project is achieving success in light of all those losses."

Syrian teenager shot trying to return from Greece to Turkey
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Greek police say a teenage Syrian refugee has been lightly injured after being shot by an unknown man while trying to illegally return to The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
, from which he had entered Greece months earlier.

The 16-year-old, together with a 21-year-old Iraqi, had bought a small inflatable dinghy in which they planned to cross the Evros river, on Greece’s northeastern border with Turkey, near Didymoteicho.

Police say both men were threatened Thursday by two men in a boat from the Turkish side, who fired at them with a shotgun as they bravely ran away. The incident was announced Friday.

About 57,000 migrants colonists and other refugees, who entered from Turkey, are stuck in Greece after a series of Balkan border closures frustrated their plans to reach Europe’s prosperous heartland.

Car bomb outside Benghazi’s Jalaa Hospital kills 5
A car bomb exploded this evening in front of the visitors’ entrance at Benghazi’s Jalaa Hospital killing five people. Another 14 were wounded. At least three are said to be in critical condition.

Some of the casualties, which include two children, are reported to have been passers-by.

The wounded are being treated at the hospital. The dead were taken to Benghazi Medical Centre. They have been named as Hashim Mohamed Manaie, Ibrahim Shouaib Muftah, Imad Ali Ageela, Otman Ai Otman and Mohamed Abdullah Mahmoud.

It is presumed that the bombing was the work of the so-called Islamic State or Ansar Al-Sharia both of which have been heavily smashed by the Libyan National Army in recent weeks. However on Thursday evening, a grenade was thrown into the hospital’s reception area, causing significant damage. Some reports said it was a terrorist attacks but the hospital denied it saying it was the action of an individual with a grudge. It is not yet known if that was true or, indeed if the two incidents are linked.

All roads in the area around the hospital have been closed by the police.

Four found shot dead near Gwadar
GWADAR: Four bullet-riddled bodies were found on Friday in Balochistan, three in the Dashat area of Kech district and one in the Cheetkan area of Panjgur district, sources said.

Officials of the Levies Force said the residents of Dashat area informed them about the presence of three bodies in Balnigore.

The fourth corpse, found in the Cheetkan area, was moved to the Panjgur district hospital. The name of the victim could not be immediately ascertained.

ISIS Confiscates Its Members’ Passport to Block Their Way Out
Also a useful thing to be able to give "migrants" heading toward European targets...
[AhlulBayt News Agency] - To prevent further escapes of its members, especially among the leading ranks, the ISIS has confiscated its members' passports, a Kurdish commander said.

Since IS is facing successive failures, especially in Iraq its members are reportedly no longer willing to risk their lives and fight for the group, looking for an opportunity to escape.

Qadir Qadir, a Kurdish Peshmerga commander, said they have received intelligence saying that IS has confiscated and burned its leading members’ passports to prevent them from escaping.

According to Qadir, many IS insurgents in Iraq have reportedly fled the group to Syria and then outside the IS-held territories.

Additionally, the number of IS insurgents surrendering to the Peshmerga forces in the areas near Mosul has recently increased, as four IS militants giving up on the group earlier this week and capitulating to the Kurdish forces.

The Peshmerga commander also revealed that IS has withdrawn part of its forces from Mosul to its self-declared capital of Raqqa in Syria as the group is seemingly disappointed by its losses in Iraq.

Britain
US Media Ignores Obama's Role in Brexit Disaster
[NewMax] Watch any of the TV news talk shows Friday and almost all have ignored one important fact: the Brexit 'Leave' victory was another humiliating loss for President Barack Obama.
Disaster to some possibly.
In fact, some British polls even showed that voter sentiment moved decidedly in favor of Brexit after Obama traveled to Britain and urged a "no" vote.

British voters delivered a stinging rebuke to Obama on Thursday when they opted to leave the EU by a 52 percent to 48 percent margin.

So strong was the backlash to Obama's blatant attempt to influence the Brexit vote ‐ polls following his April visit to London showed the opposition to his remarks running at about 60 percent ‐ that a reasonable case could be made he contributed to the outcome.

Obama's threatening remarks against Britain over Brexit seemed to have ignited a tempest.

Upon leaving the EU, Obama said, Britain should not expect a new trade deal with the U.S., that it would be "in the back of the queue."

In a subsequent interview with the BBC, Obama suggested that a new trade deal with America's closest ally "could be five years from now, 10 years from now before we were able to actually get something done."

Obama's use of the Briticism "queue" for the word "line" triggered widespread speculation that the President's comments had, in fact, been written for him at 10 Downing Street.

Former London Mayor Boris Johnson, a staunch opponent of remaining in the EU and allowing unbridled immigration, blasted Obama's remarks as "paradoxical, inconsistent, and incoherent."
I seldom post from NewsMax, but I thought this item was worthy.

Scottish leader says new referendum on split from UK ‘very likely’
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Scottish leader Nicola Sturgeon says a new Scottish referendum on independence is "highly likely" because of Britannia’s vote to leave the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
She said Friday legislation will be prepared for a possible new vote.

Independence was defeated two years ago in a Scottish referendum.

Sturgeon said she would do everything possible to keep Scotland inside the EU. She said this means another referendum "has to be on the table."

Britannia’s decision to leave the EU represents a substantial, material change in Scotland’s relations and could justify another independence vote, she said.

The Scottish leader also praised British Prime Minister David Cameron

Since he is not deeply ideological he lacks core principles and is easily led. Saudi Jets Slaughter Tens of Friendly Troops Again
[EN.FARSNEWS] Saudi warplanes hit the positions of friendly forces in Northern Yemen, and killed a large number of Death Eaters loyal to runaway former President Mansour Hadi, in what has come to be known as "routine" shooting and bombing of friendly troops by the Saudi air force.

Tens of pro-Hadi militias were killed in the Saudi fighter jets' air raid on their positions in al-Jawf province in Northern Yemen, the Arabic-language media quoted eyewitnesses as saying.

In a similar incident on December 30, scores of the militias loyal to Mansour Hadi were killed in the Saudi Arclight airstrikes in Ta'iz province in Southern Yemen.

Also on November 17, the Saudi warplanes killed scores of militias loyal to Mansour Hadi.

Also on October 18, the Saudi fighter jets killed 30 pro-Hadi Death Eaters in Ta'iz province.

Benghazi’s Jalaa hospital attacked; BMC stretched to breaking point
Part of the reception area at Benghazi’s Jalaa Hospital was seriously damaged yesterday afternoon, when a grenade was thrown at it. The hospital says that it does not believe this was a terrorist act but rather a criminal action by an individual.

Hospitals and hospital staff across Libya have been subject to regular violent attacks from members of the public, usually over the hospital’s inability to provide treatment or the death of a relative or friend while being treated. Two days ago, Sabratha municipal council issued a condemnation of attacks on staff at the teaching hospital there.

While the Jalaa hospital incident may not have been a terrorist act, the same was not the case for Benghazi Medical Centre. Yet another missile landed just outside the building yesterday, shattering windows but otherwise causing no serious damage. The hospital is regularly attacked by militants. On Wednesday night, a missile yet again hit the car park, destroying at least one vehicle.

Despite the attacks, the BMC continues to operate although, according to its director, Mohamed Zwai, it is stretched to breaking point. The number of wounded arriving at the hospital as a result of the fighting in the city in the past few days is way beyond what was expected and beyond its capacity. All the beds were full, he explained in a TV interview yesterday, and called on hospitals in nearby towns to help out.

US reluctant to sever internet connections in ISIS strongholds
[RUDAW.NET] The United States Cyber Command (CYBERCOM) said it is reluctant to cut internet connections to Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS)-held cities despite the fact they are actively engaged in a cyber-war against the murderous Moslems.

"It’s a careful balance, even in Raqqa or djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
, or anywhere on how we balance the rights to have access to the internet versus the use of the internet illegally by folks like ISIS [ISIS]," Thomas Atkin, the acting assistance defense secretary for homeland defense and global security, told the US House Armed Services Committee on Wednesday.

Fighting ISIS online has given CYBERCOM valuable experience. Also ISIS’s online presence has actually helped the US undermine the murderous Moslems.

The New York Times
...which still proudly displays Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize...
reported that CYBERCOM has successfully manipulated ISIS networks online, altering and imitating messages sent by ISIS commanders to turbans on the battlefield in order to direct them to areas where the US military can more easily take them out in either air or drone strikes.

US Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter explained earlier this year that the aim of US cyber-attacks against ISIS in Mosul is to "interrupt [the group’s] command and control, to cause them to lose confidence in their networks, to overload their networks so they can’t function, and to do all of these things that will interrupt their ability to command and control forces there, control the population and the economy."

The telecommunications infrastructure in Mosul was installed by the Americans during the Iraq War, meaning it’s potentially easier for them to hack into.

CYBERCOM, established in 2010, has officially been engaged against ISIS in a war in cyberspace since April to counter that groups use of the internet to promote their propaganda and attempt to recruit foreigners to join their rank and file.

The UN Security Council tasked the UN’s Counter Terrorism Committee (CTC) last month with finding ways to prevent ISIS from luring foreign volunteers to join them via sophisticated online propaganda.

The UN released a blurb at the time which said the Security Council is concerned about the ability of ISIS to "craft distorted narratives that are based on misinterpretation and misrepresentation of religion to justify violence."

ISIS has released very well made propaganda movies since its rise to global infamy, many of them depict the groups sordid torture and murder of their enemies.

The turbans were also caught earlier this month actively using social media in order to sell women, likely Yezidis, they had put into sex-slavery two years ago

Iraq
Kurds have no right to state, Sunni politicians sided with terrorists, says ex-Iraqi PM
[RUDAW.NET] The former Prime Minister of Iraq Nouri al-Maliki
... Prime Minister of Iraq and the secretary-general of the Islamic Dawa Party. Maliki imposed order on Basra wen the Shiites were going nuts, but has proven incapable of dealing with al-Qaeda's Sunni insurgency. Reelected to his third term in 2014...
praised Iran and Shiite militias for fighting the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS) while simultaneously alleging that Sunni politicians in Iraq have sided with "terrorists", and arguing that Iraq’s Kurds had no right to call for independence.

Speaking to Iran’s al-Alam news channel on Tuesday Maliki insisted that the Shiite-majority coalition of militia groups known as Hashd al-Shaabi are "essential" for the war against Islamic State (ISIS).

Given their combat experience Maliki believes they should become a new security force in Iraq which wouldn’t necessarily replace the existing Iraqi Security Forces (ISF) but would nevertheless "address situations like the one Iraq currently finds itself in."

Maliki said that without Iraq’s Sunnis and Kurds there could be no Iraq arguing that there needs to be more trust between them for Iraq to progress as a unified nation state.

He slammed the idea that the Sunnis were marginalized arguing that such talk "is rhetoric" which is used by "political and regional forces that oppose the new Iraq and use it [as] a hook to hang their ideas, attitudes, desires and struggle."

Furthermore, Maliki accused Sunni members of government of directly supporting terrorist groups.

"These people supported the government by day and by night they are part of terrorist organizations. And this is what happened, and this is not marginalization," Maliki alleged.

The former Prime Minister also argued that Iraq’s Kurds have no right to opt for full independence from Iraq arguing that such a move would have a negative effect on Baghdad, Erbil and the surrounding region and said a partition of Iraq would be an "absolute evil."

Maliki praised Iran’s contribution to the Iraqi war effort against ISIS arguing that Iran has done more than anyone else to help Iraq. He disputed the notion that Iran’s heavy involvement in the war against ISIS on Iraqi soil constituted interference in Iraq’s internal affairs.

On Moqtada Tater al-Sadr
... the Iranian catspaw holy man who was 22 years old in 2003 and was nearing 40 in 2010. He spends most of his time in Iran, safely out of the line of fire, where he's learning to be an ayatollah...
’s supporters, who have pressured the government to implement fundamental reforms, Maliki argued that pressuring the government to reform through protests "is robbery [done] in order to control the political process and direct it how these political currents and entities want."

Maliki was Prime Minister of Iraq from 2006 until 2014; he was unable to stand for a third term in late 2014 after he was blamed for losing large swaths of Iraqi territory to ISIS.

Libyan government forces repel ISIS counterattack in Sirte
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Libya pro-government forces repelled a counterattack by ISIS group as they pressed their offensive to retake the jihadist coastal bastion of Sirte on Friday, a military statement said.

Forces backing Libya’s unity government early Friday "repelled a new counter-offensive from ISIS... in very violent festivities," the statement said, using an Arabic acronym for ISIS.

At least 10 forces of Evil were killed in the fighting, it said. In a later statement it said four members of the GNA forces were killed in today’s festivities and 24 others were maimed.

Since May 12, pro-government forces from the west, Libyan naval forces and eastern militias have pushed the jihadists back into a residential zone of just five square kilometers (two square miles) inside the city.

But their early advances slowed when they entered Sirte on June 9 and reached built-up central and northern parts of the city. ISIS has hit back with suicide boom-mobiles and sniper fire.

The jihadists overran the city some 450 kilometers (270 miles) east of the capital in June last year.

Pro-government forces retaking the city would be a major blow to ISIS, which has faced a series of setbacks in Syria and Iraq.

Nearly 200 anti-ISIS fighters have been killed and over 600 injured since the start of the offensive, according to medical sources.

Pro-government forces, commanded out of Misrata -- 190 kilometers to the northwest -- are mostly made up of western militias that were born during the 2011 revolt that overthrew dictator Muammer Qadaffy.

A militia set up to guard the country’s main oil facilities has also been advancing on ISIS from the east.

Mourning the mindset

Poignant to a fault, Mustafa Zaidi’s couplet has been rendered a cliché by the killing fields of Bloody Karachi

Hezbollah vows to increase presence in Syria’s Aleppo
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Leb’s Hezbollah said on Friday it would increase its military presence in Syria’s Aleppo, saying the battle for the northern city was a fight to defend the entire country.

Hezbollah leader His Eminence Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah
The satrap of the Medes and the Persians in Leb...
said that as fighting in Syria intensified, 26 of the group’s fighters had been killed in the Aleppo region since the beginning of June, a rare acknowledgment of the toll the battle is taking.

Terror of Aleppo ...
"We are facing a new wave, or a new stage, of projects of war against Syria which are being waged in northern Syria, particularly in the Aleppo region," Nasrallah said in a speech broadcast live on the group’s Al Manar TV.

"The defence of Aleppo is the defence of the rest of Syria, it is the defence of Damascus, it is also the defence of Leb, and of Iraq," he said.

"It was necessary for us to be in Aleppo ... and we will stay in Aleppo.

"We will increase our presence in Aleppo," he said.

Shiite Hezbollah, Iranian troops and Russian air power have been backing Syrian government forces against an array of mostly Sunni snuffies in bitter fighting that has escalated in recent weeks in and around Syria’s former commercial hub.

Aleppo is split between government and rebel control, and is seen as a strategic prize for Damascus, which has vowed to recapture it.

Soldiers ambush Boko Haram fighters, kill 10, capture 2
[THECABLE.NG] Ten members of the Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
sect have been killed, while two captured alive, in an ambush laid by soldiers at the border town of Gamboru-Ngala in Borno state.

Lucky Irabor, theatre commander of Operation Lafiya Dole, disclosed this at a news conference in Maiduguri, the state capital.

He said some of the items recovered from the suspects were six AK47 magazines, 56 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, a bundle of detonating cord and a manual booklet on how to make improvised bomb (IED).

"On June 10, our troops at Logomani ambushed suspected Boko Haram snuffies following information about their movement toward Muska village in Ngala Local Government Area of Borno," he said.

"As a result, 10 of them were killed and two others were captured, while two civilian captives were rescued from the snuffies during the operation."

Irabor added that the military has recorded tremendous success in its clearance operations in various parts of the state.

"On June 7, troops on patrol made contact with suspected Boko Haram snuffies around Tilani, Rann and Kalma in Kala Balge general area," he said.

"In the process, one was killed, while others who suffered gunshot wounds fled, three cycle of violences and a bag containing N466,000 cash was recovered from them."

He said some civilians who were in captivity have been rescued by the military.

IS Detain 900 Kurdish Civilians in Northern Syria in 3 Weeks

group fighters have detained some 900 Kurds in the northern Syrian province of Aleppo over the past three weeks, amid fierce fighting for control of a nearby IS stronghold, a Kurdish official and Syrian activists have said.

The Britannia-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said Friday the 900 civilians were detained near the IS-held town of al-Bab.

Sherfan Darwish, front man for the U.S.-backed predominantly-Kurdish Syria Democratic Forces, told The News Agency that Dare Not be Named that over 900 were seized in retaliation for an SDF offensive on the IS-stronghold of Manbij.

Darwish said that, "whenever ISIS is defeated they retaliate against civilians," using an Arabic acronym for IS.

The Observatory and Darwish said some of the detainees were forced to dig trenches in IS-held areas while others are imprisoned in detention centers.

Europe
Study: Flow of Bosnians to Syria, Iraq Dries Up
[AnNahar] The flow of Bosnian jihadists to Syria and Iraq has almost stopped -- although nearly 200 of them are still there, including 60 minors, according to a new study.

"The departures of Bosnian citizens to Syria and Iraq continued throughout 2015 but at a slower pace. The trend almost completely stopped by early 2016," said the study published by the Sarajevo-based thinktank Atlantic Initiative.

The report out this week also noted that returns from Syria and Iraq to Bosnia had "ceased completely in 2015," except for a few extradition cases from Turkish prisons.

The reduced flow both ways was likely a result of "intensified efforts aimed at the criminal prosecution of aspiring fighters and returnees from Syria and Iraq," said the report.

The reduction could also be linked to changes in Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. -controlled territories, which are now more difficult to enter and leave, it said.

The report's authors said they knew of families that had departed with a number of children and little intention of returning -- in one case, with nine children and a five-month-old baby.

"This could be attributed to a change in (Islamic State Group) ISIS's rhetoric and a generally new understanding of the conflict -‐ as not only jihad but also hijra (migration)," their study said.

One in three of the Bosnians who are currently in Iraq or Syria are minors, said the study, which also warned of young boys aged 13 or 14 engaging in combat.

However,
death is not the end. There remains the litigation over the estate...
the total number of Bosnian citizens in Syria and Iraq is declining.

Since 2012, 330 Bosnians have gone to the region to join jihad. Of the 188 men among them, at least 50 have been killed and 47 have returned to Bosnia.

Bosnian fighters' deaths are almost twice the European average rate, possibly due to a lack of proper military training before they join the conflict, the report suggested.

Despite "sensationalist" media reports of "jihadi training camps" in Bosnia, "extensive police investigations have thus far found no evidence to corroborate these reports," the study said.

About 40 percent of Bosnia's 3.8 million people are Moslem, the vast majority of them moderates. The rest are mainly Orthodox or Catholic Christian.

Intelligence: The War On Roofs
[StrategyPage] There was also a problem with Islamic Lions of Islam hiding in some abandoned villages. These rural villages were often little fortresses built of mud brick, except for the roofs, which were usually wood or sheet metal (to deal with the heavy Winter snows). To help with the frequent aerial reconnaissance (using F-16s, helicopters and UAVS) ground patrols were ordered to remove the roofs of buildings likely to conceal remaining, or returning Islamic terrorists. Air strikes or artillery were used against any roofs that reappeared or were not removed in a remote area where Islamic Lions of Islam were spotted.
Strategy Page is always worth reading, but I thought this tactic used by the Pakistani Army in their war against jihadis in Waziristan to be of interest.

Top economies ease penalties on Iran over money laundering
Come hell or high water, this president will stay the course for the important things.
[IsraelTimes] US and 36 other members of Financial Action Task Force welcomed Tehran commitment to fight terrorism financing

The world’s major economies on Friday suspended anti-money laundering measures against Iran for a year despite concerns that the Islamic Theocratic Republic uses its financial sector to protect criminal enterprises and fund terrorist activity.

The announcement is another sign of progress in Tehran’s campaign to return to the global economy after last year’s nuclear accord.

At a meeting in South Korea, the United States and the 36 other members of the Financial Action Task Force welcomed Iran’s commitment to address shortcomings in how it tackles money laundering and fights terrorism financing. The Iranians also are seeking technical assistance in their efforts.

To protect the international financial system, FATF members are supposed to apply countermeasures against any country on the organization’s blacklist. The body, which meets three times a year, said banks should continue applying due diligence in business relationships and transactions with Iranian individuals.

If Iran fails to make progress over the next 12 months, "FATF’s call for counter-measures will be re-imposed," it said in a statement. "If Iran meets its commitments under the action plan in that time period, the FATF will consider next steps."

The FATF urged Iran to fully address its deficiencies, "in particular those related to terrorist financing."

Friday’s move will alarm some opponents of the Iran nuclear deal in the United States.

The seven-nation agreement promised Iran significant relief from financial, trade and oil sanctions in exchange for steps to curtail a program that many Western countries feared was close to nuclear weapons capability. Iran has adhered to its commitments thus far, according to the UN nuclear agency, but Republican and other critics say the US shouldn’t be doing anything more than it is required under the agreement.

In a letter to Treasury Secretary Jack Lew last week, Rep. Ed Royce, the House Foreign Affairs Committee chairman, urged the B.O. regime to fight to keep Iran remained on the blacklist. He said Iran’s support for terrorism continues. That State Department upheld that conclusion, too, in its latest terrorism report. Iran also is backing Syrian Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Despoiler of Deraa...
’s government in its civil war with US-backed and Arab-backed rebel groups.

"Hezbollah, Iran’s leading terrorist proxy, is currently playing a central role in Iran’s effort to prop up the murderous Assad regime in Syria," Royce wrote. "This US designated ’Foreign Terrorist Organization’ also has tens of thousands of rockets pointed at Israel."

Tyler Cullis, legal fellow at the National Iranian American Council, hailed the FATF’s decision as recognition of improvements in Iran’s banking sector.

But Mark Dubowitz, an Iran sanctions expert at the Washington-based Foundation for Defense of Democracies, played down the practical effects of the change. "Global financial institutions understand that this illicit conduct, not empty expressions of intent, must be changed before risking business with Iran," he said.

American officials said Friday’s announcement in Busan, South Korea, has no effect on the US government’s Iran-related sanctions.

Also Friday, the FATF maintained its call for financial institutions to apply countermeasures on North Korea and uphold UN Security Council sanctions against the communist government. It cited the threat posed by North Korea’s "illicit activities related to the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and its financing."

#3  FATF is one thing, the American courts another. Congress has permitted lawsuits against US-designated state sponsors of terrorism for injury or death of US citizens. Because Iran is a state sponsor of terror since 1984, US citizens have brought court cases against Iran for its support of Hamas, Hezbollah, PIJ, Al=Qaeda, etc.

"Iran has long held that such lawsuits violate its immunities and has refused to defend itself in US courts. This has led to a situation where most judgments against Iran in US courts have been by default – the alleged facts being taken for granted and judgments being awarded on that basis. In this manner, US plaintiffs have accumulated outstanding judgments against Iran totaling close to $50 billion."

This Week in Guns, June 25th, 2016

By Chris Covert
Rantburg.com

More on the Pulse Nightclub shooting. The local Orlando newspaper has a helpful chronology of the incident, which can be found here.

We also have a story where the FBI attempted to snag the shooter into one of its custom made, pretend terrorist attacks, but he wouldn't bite. Dunno about you, but it would piss me off to no end to find an employer's customer was trying to send me to prison.

In the week following, we have an instance in which a CBS television crew tried to buy an AR-15 to show how easy it is to obtain one, only to admit that the producer, et al, broke federal firearms transfer rules. My guess is that no one will spend so much as an hour inside a lawyer's office, much less detention or prison. They'll skate because their effort was meant to provide ammunition for legislators pushing for even stronger gun control laws.

Just a guess, whenever an entity is arming up, they are up to something, and civil liberties, which are meant to be untouched by a marauding federal government, will suffer.

Consider the case of Neil Steinberg, the newspaper columnist who attempted to buy an AR to prove just how easy it is to obtain one only to be denied because of a history of alcohol abuse and "domestic violence."

So many questions, including how did the FFL get hold of information relating to his alcoholism? How does a domestic violence incident get conflated into a reason to deny the purchase of a firearm?

The last question I posed on a private Facebook page I am a member of. I didn't get much of an answer because frankly there is zero cause for this or any of the other reasons given to deny the right to obtain a firearm.

But it does explain why civil liberties are dying. Many members of the group seemed to be all too happy a liberal was denied his right to purchase the firearm, but for all their schadenfreude, a basic ugly fact is revealed. That given the right circumstances, anyone can be convinced to destroy anyone else's rights without much consideration as to what gave the government the right to do it.

It reminds me of the basic idea I have about most people and the Bill of Rights. They love their civil liberties, but as they understand it their own rights are to be protected; just not anyone else's.

Given that attitude, do you really want to be shoulder to shoulder with people who can be convinced to deny you your rights?

I wouldn't, and that is why I am a pariah in most social and Internet settings, for pointing this out. Steinburg should have received his firearm and should have been allowed to do whatever he wanted to do with it, including turning it in to the cops or using the rifle for protection.

Loads.

#1  The reporter got denied on the basis of his own articles. They recognized him and went back to see that he'd admitted to the wife beating and being a drunk, so they denied his sale. His own articles were their source. There's some good writes up on this at Bearingarms.com or truth about guns.

#2  Wife beater. The media has no morals. Definitely a Democrat. I propose a new gun control law. All victims domestic violence be required to own a hand gun.

#3  As I recall, domestic violence became a reason for denial of the purchase of a firearm. ATF Form 4473 has to be completed at the time of purchase. Form 4473. If Neil Steinberg did not complete the section of the form about alcohol or drug dependency and domestic violence honestly, he would put himself at risk for a felony charge. A acquaintence came afoul of this law. He had a domestic violence charge that involved a wife who was carrying on with someone else. They had a couple of kids which complicated things. He put a gun to her paramour's head and scared the bejesus out of him. Charges were filed. The guy with the gun had to go to "anger management" class. Supposedly, the charge would be reduced to a misdemeanor after completion of the school.

Africa North
Clashes near Abu Sleem
Clashes were reported overnight between militias near Tripoli’s Abu Sleem district following an earlier shooting incident in which a boy was killed. The boy was in a car with his father, named as Hussain Naib, when it was shot at. He later died.

People in Abu Sleem have variously blamed a Misratan militia or the militia of Salah Al-Burki, based in Hadba for the killing, leading to a standoff between the militia of local commander Abdul Ghani Al-Kikli (“Ghneiwa”) and those of forces Burki.

Meanwhile, elsewhere across the city, anger at the presence of Misratan forces has grown massively, especially since Tuesday’s killings in Garabulli. In in the west of the capital, in Ghut Shaal, locals set tyres on fire and blocked roads.

Further protests are expected today.

We earlier reported that Ghneiwa’s forces were suspected of the boy’s killing and that they were now allied to the Misratans. We were mistaken. This was not the case

Warring Tripoli militias exchange accusations over clashes
The two militias involved in clashes last night around Tripoli’s Abu Sleem area have accused each other of being responsible.

The militia belonging to Abdul Ghani Al-Kikli (a.k.a. Ghneiwa) claim they were responding to the murder of a child by members of the forces of other local warlord Salah Al-Burki. They say that Burki’s men had targeted the boy’s father, who works Ghneiwa, while he was driving. The father, named as Hussein Al-Naib survived the attempt.

From their part, the Al-Burki militia claimed that they had been transporting a criminal to a prosecutor’s office when they were attacked by Ghneiwa’s forces, intent on freeing him. They named the alleged criminal as Ahmed Al-Bousifi, saying that he had been involved in several cases including kidnapping for ransom.

The neighbouring districts of Abu Sleem and Hadba where the two militias are respectively based were calm today but still tense, with fears that fresh clashes could break out at any minute.

There were reports that two, possibly three, members of Burki’s men were killed in last night’s clashes. One report had earlier suggested they were between the Ghneiwa and Al-Burki militias on one side and the Misratans on the another side. This was not so. However, many in Burki’s militia are said to be from families originally from Misrata.

The two-year itch
[DAWN] IN many ancient civilisations, the appearance of a comet in the sky was seen as an omen of natural disasters and other terrible events.

Mothers would hide their children; farmers would herd their animals into enclosures; and kings would offer sacrifices to the gods. Now, it is the annual visit of Tahirul Qadri
...Pak politician, and would-be dictator, founder and head of Tehreek-e-Minhajul Quran and Pakistain Awami Tehrik. He usually resides in Canada, but returns to Pakistain periodically to foam at the mouth and lead demonstrations. Depending on which way the wind's blowing, Qadri claims to be the author of Pak's blasphemy law. Other times he says it wasn't him...
that sends similar jitters across the country. OK, perhaps mothers don’t hide their children, but the government does tighten its seatbelt.

Muslim privates swear allegiance to IDF
[Ynet] The swearing-in ceremony for the March 2016 cycle of Desert Reconnaissance Battalion soldiers was held on Thursday at the Memorial Monument to the Bedouin Warriors with the majority of the sworn-in soldiers being Moslem. Before their commanders and families, the soldiers, mostly Bedouins with some Moslem and Christian Arabs who volunteered to join the IDF, swore allegiance to the State of Israel and its defense.

The swearing-in ceremony took place three months after the beginning of the training course, eventually becoming full-fledged infantry soldiers.

One of the soldiers who took part in the ceremony was 20-year-old Private Suliman el-Magnun, a resident of the Al-Fura village in the Bedouin area of the Negev. El-Magnun enlisted following his two brothers and a cousin's volunteering for the IDF as well. One of his brothers served in Golani and the other as a tracker. His cousin was in the Ordnance Corps.

"When we swore allegiance to the state, I did it with all my heart," said the excited private. "I understood how important it was to give and do my part for the country in which I was born, that I live my life in, and that I'm proud of."

The individual, who works in the pharmacy department of the Ankara University Hospital, got into an argument with several colleagues while at work, the state run Anadolu Agency reported.

He then pulled out a weapon and opened fire, killing three of his colleagues on the spot, while the fourth later succumbed to his wounds, the report said.

Europe
The great unravelling
[DAWN] ONCE again, a spectre is haunting Europe. It is the spectre of a great unravelling, not only of European unity but also of European values. No matter how hard they tried to put a graceful sheen on the aftermath of Thursday’s historic referendum by saying that Britannia will remain a country that is "open and inclusive", the leaders of the ’leave’ campaign cannot escape the fact that their triumph owed itself to the stirrings of atavistic hatreds and xenophobic fears. They should reflect on the fact that the only leaders on the global stage cheering the result of their campaign are Donald Trump and Marie Le Pen. The outcome of the referendum accelerates Britannia’s slide towards an inward-looking country. It has also unleashed forces that could one day sweep away Boris Johnson and Michael Gove -- the leaders of the ’leave’ campaign.

The wave of ultranationalist politics sweeping across the world, from Donald Trump in America to Narendra Modi in India, with the European right wing making strong gains along the way, is gathering momentum, gaining a boost from the campaign behind the ’leave’ vote in Britannia. The fact that the phenomenon is sweeping across many countries, however, shows that its roots are deeper than the circumstances obtaining in any one state alone. The growing gulf between the rulers and the ruled, between the haves and the have-nots, and across cultures that rub each other on the streets of almost every city in the advanced industrial West, provides the fuel for the engine of xenophobic politics, driven on a combustible cocktail of fear and hate.

The results of the ’leave’ victory will be widely felt beyond Britannia. The gyrations travelling through the financial markets will likely stabilise soon. But the deeper implications, for European unity, for inclusive politics, and regional integration in areas beyond Europe, are grave. Germany’s Chancellor Angela Merkel
...current chancellor of Germany. She was educated in East Germany when is was still run by commies, but in 1989 got involved with the growing democracy movement when the Berlin Wall fell. Merkel is sometimes referred to by Germans as Mom...
was right to remind us in her reaction to the vote that ultimately "European unity is about European peace". It is a dangerous trend that is sweeping across the world, and if a way out is not found, it risks dragging us back to an era where values mattered less than force. Taking the decision to leave the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
may well be the right of the British. But the rise of a more vernacular politics, steeped in the exclusionary language of identity and the muscular assertion of ego, bodes ill for all of us. Europe has been the beacon of cooperative values and inclusive politics for more than half a century now, forged in the heat of the great wars the continent has known. Yet today -- in the opening decades of the 21st century -- it is sadly reverting to exactly that style of politics that paved its descent into the great conflicts of the early 20th century.

Strong Demand Across Vessel Segments Pushes Up Baltic Index
The Baltic Exchange’s main sea freight index, tracking rates for ships carrying dry bulk commodities, rose on Thursday as demand strengthened across all vessel segments.

The overall index, which factors in rates for capesize, panamax, supramax and handysize shipping vessels, was up 11 points, or 1.88 percent, at 596 points.

The capesize index rose 19 points, or 2.16 percent, to 897 points.

Iraq
Kurds and Sunnis are fleeing Khurmatu
[RUDAW.NET] First it was Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
, now Shiite militias are threatening the stability of Khurmatu and escalating sectarian tensions say residents.

Many Kurds, Sunni Arabs and Sunni Turkmen are leaving their homes in Khurmatu due to increasing killings and threats.

"Killing people is as easy as drinking water. The city does not have an owner. There is no security. We are many Kurds in Askari neighborhood. We all left and goodbye," a Kurdish resident told Rudaw while he was packed up and leaving town.

"The Kurds, Sunni Arabs and Sunni Turkmen are leaving. Only the Sunnis are leaving; it’s the sectarian war," he added.

According to the people of Khurmatu, the killings and threats increased in the last couple weeks, spurring many residents to leave town. People are putting their houses up for sale, indicating they have given up on Khurmatu and have no intention of returning.

The threats are believed to be mainly coming from the Shiite militias but people are not clear whether they are linked to the Hashd al-Shaabi or not. "We have been threatened. No one knows who is behind it ‐ Shias, Sunnis or ISIS. They threatened us to leave the neighborhood," a woman from the Askari neighborhood of Khurmatu told Rudaw.

The poor security situation has left residents feeling that the town is on the frontlines of the war and they face direct threats. "I am a Peshmerga at the frontlines. I came home but it is the same, like the frontlines. What a life?," a Peshmerga resident said.

People are asking for support, especially from the KRG who they want to give them a safe place to move to. In May, the people of Khurmatu and the KRG Ministry of Peshmerga asked the Kurdistan Region’s presidency to create a special force formed from the people of Khurmatu to protect their town.

Kurdish Peshmerga and Shiite militias have clashed several times over the past year. They have tried, unsuccessfully, to make peace agreements.

In April, they signed a 12 point agreement to stabilize the situation. But not all the points were implemented and tensions resumed. In May, they established a joint Peshmerga-Shiite force but the insecurity remained.

An official from the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) blamed the insecurity on the presence of multiple gangs in the town. "All those different gangs are present in Khurmatu, causing instability in town," Hassan Baram told Rudaw on June 18.

"Khurmatu is like a diversified and colorful military base. Such a small district cannot contain all those brigades, battalions, foreign and internal forces. The Kurdish authority should try to expel those forces from the town and the security of Khurmatu should be handed to the security forces," he added.

Advocate General help sought on FIR against cleric
[DAWN] The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday directed the Islamabad advocate general to assist the court in a matter related to the registration of a criminal case against Lal Masjid
...literally the Red Mosque, located in Islamabad and frequented by all sorts of high govt officials. The proprietors, Ghazi Abdul Rasheed and Maulana Abdul Aziz Ghazi, unleashed their Islamic storm troopers on the city, shutting down whorehouses and beating people up who weren't devout enough. The Musharraf govt put an end to the nonsense by besieging the place. Abdul Aziz Ghazi was nabbed while he was trying to escape dressed up like a girl. BBC reported that the corpse count at 173, but other claims, usually hysterical, say there were up to 1000 titzup. Among their number was Abdul Rashid Ghazi. Everyone then said tut-tut and what a nice guy he had been...
holy man Maulana Abdul Aziz
...nutball holy man who runs the Lal Masjid in the heart of Pakistain's capital. After instigating a rebellion against the state in 2007, he was caught trying to sneak away dressed in a burka. He rejects democracy as un-Islamic, which it probably is...
When the hearing of the case was resumed, the interior ministry informed the bench that it had sought the law ministry’s opinion on the matter.

Adjourning the matter until July 12, Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani
... four star general, current Chief of Army Staff of the Mighty Pak Army. Kayani is the former Director General of ISI...
directed the Islamabad advocate general to appear before the court at the next hearing to assist the court.

During the last hearing, the interior ministry secretary Mohammad SLearned Elders of Islamn told the IHC bench that neither Mr Aziz nor the students of Jamia Hafsa
... the Islamic nunnery maintained by Lal Masjid....
were running any sort of institution that posed a danger to the state’s safety and security.

The bench was hearing the case of a petitioner seeking the registration of an FIR against Mr Aziz, his wife Umme Hassan and the students of Jamia Hafsa for inviting ISIS ‐ also known as the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
‐ to avenge the killing of the late Osama bin Laden
... who doesn't live anywhere anymore...
and the 2007 Lal Masjid operation.

The petitioner, activist Mohammad Jibran Nasir, has contended that students of Jamia Hafsa invited IS to Pakistain in a video. He said that in a separate video, Mr Aziz endorsed his students’ actions, and poses grave danger to the safety and security of Pakistain.

Mr Nasir initially reached out to the Aabpara police in this regard, who refused to lodge an FIR. He then filed an application before a civil court that dismissed the application on March 9. The petitioner has asked the court to annul the civil court’s decision and direct the police to register an FIR in this matter.

Iraqi MP: Saudi Envoy in Baghdad to Support ISIL
[EN.FARSNEWS] A senior Iraqi politician called on his government to take serious measures against the Saudi Ambassador to Baghdad, and said that Thamer al-Sabhan is in Iraq to support the ISIS Takfiri
...an adherent of takfir wal hijra, an offshoot of Salafism that regards everybody who doesn't agree with them as apostates who must be killed...
terrorist group.

"The reinstatement of al-Sabhan in Baghdad is meant to support the ISIS," the Arabic-language media outlets quoted member of the Iraqi Parliament's Foreign Relations Committee Mesal al-Alousi as saying on Thursday.

He underlined that Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
meddles in the internal affairs of all the regional countries, and said, "For the same reason the Iraqi government should confront that country's ambassador to Baghdad."

"Saudi Arabia claims that it respects the Iraqi people and Shiites, but it supports the ISIS," Al-Alousi said.

On Sunday, Iraqi Foreign Minister Ebrahim al-Jafari slammed Saudi ambassador's remarks about Iran’s role in the Arab country, including its advisory assistance to fight Takfiri holy warriors.

Al-Jafari's remarks came in reaction to al-Sabhan's meddling in his country's internal affairs.

"The Saudi envoy's comments represent flagrant meddling in Iraq's domestic affairs and run counter to standard diplomatic norms," al-Jafari said.

In a Twitter post, Sabhan wrote that Iranian military advisers were in Fallujah to incite sectarian violence and change the demographic composition of the city.

The Saudi ambassador's repeated meddling in Iraq's internal affairs came after Iraqi troops retook Fallujah from the Saudi-backed ISIS hard boyz on Friday and prepared to retake djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
, the last Takfiri bastion in the country.

The Iraqi Foreign Ministry summoned Sabhan "to inform him of its official protest regarding his divisive
...politicians call things divisive when when the other side sez something they don't like. Their own statements are never divisive, they're principled...
statements." The ministry said Baghdad would not allow anyone to stoke divisions in the country through making sectarian comments.

Baghdad also said it would not allow Riyadh to draw Iraq into the kingdom's conflict with Tehran.

Iraqi officials have at times stated that Iranian military advisers are in the Arab country at the request of Baghdad.

IS bomb-making factory captured in Sirte
The danger of truck bombs, IEDs and booby traps may have been markedly reduced after Bunyan Marsous fighters yesterday overran an IS bomb-making factory in Sirte. But the price already paid by the anti-terrorist forces has been high.

The spokesman for the Bunyan Marsous Operations Room, Brigadier Mohamed Al-Ghasri said today that 210 fighters had been killed since the start of the assault on IS in Sirte, with 800 wounded.

This evening Misrata Hospital was treating four fighters injured by shrapnel from mortar rounds. Seriously wounded men continue to be sent abroad for treatment, the latest batch being flown to Morocco.

The bomb factory discovered in Sirte contained explosives leached from shells, detonators and wireless detonators.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
IEDs and concern for civilians slow down Manbij operation
[RUDAW.NET] Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) are making progress in their offensive to liberate the strategic town of Manbij but Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
IEDs (improvised bombs) and concern for civilian lives remain big obstacles, confirmed an SDF commander.

"The unlimited number of IEDs and our responsibility to protect civilian lives and homes are main factors in slowing down the operations. ISIS planted IEDs in 80% of the civilian homes and they use the people of the southern and western neighborhoods as human shields," said Adnan Abu Amjad, commander of the Manbij Military Council.

The SDF, dominated by the Kurdish Peoples’ Protection Units (YPG), are leading the operation to liberate Manbij under the umbrella of the local Manbij Military Council.

As ISIS continues to target civilians, the SDF are trying to find safe ways to reach them. "With our progress, we are trying to find a safe path for the civilians to rescue them, because many people try to escape," Abu Amjad said, noting that ISIS indiscriminately targets anybody, including civilians, who enter certain marked areas.

"We did rescue some of the maimed people and transferred them to Kobani hospitals," he confirmed.

As the fighting continues, the humanitarian crisis and lack of essential goods is also threatening the lives of civilians. "The humanitarian situation of Manbij is so bad and no food is left for them and they cannot get medicine. Therefore we are trying to liberate the area as soon as possible," he explained.

According to the SDF military commander, so far they killed 1,800 ISIS fighters in Manbij and have the bodies of 800 Death Eaters.

In retaliation for the SDF successes against ISIS in Manbij, the terrorist group has reportedly kidnapped 900 Kurds from Aleppo province in the past three weeks, SDF front man Sherfan Dawrish told the News Agency that Dare Not be Named (AP).

At least 26 of those kidnapped may have been executed for refusing to follow ISIS orders, a Kurdish media activist Rezan Hiddo told AP.

Though the SDF are proceeding with caution, they are steadily gaining ground from ISIS. Local media in Rojava reported on Friday that the YPG forces now control the silos of Manbij.

And according to a video Rudaw received, YPG forces are already in the villages of Manbij where they have established checkpoints and are pulling down ISIS flags and raising their own flags and images of PKK (Kurdistan Workers Party) leader Abullah Ocalan. Civilian homes destroyed by coalition Arclight airstrikes can be seen in the video.

Most of the YPG fighters who have retaken control of the villages are originally from Manbij and surrounding areas but they were living in Kobani since ISIS seized control of the region. They are happy to return to their homes.

Iraq
Jalawla bank manager wanted for missing millions of dollars which he says was taken by ISIS
[RUDAW.NET] The Iraqi government has put out an arrest warrant for the head of the bank of Jalawla in northern Diyala on charges of "neglect of duty" and the disappearance of billions of Iraqi dinars, charges denied and described as discriminatory by the accused.

Abdulhameed Rashid, head of Rafidain Bank in Jalawla told Rudaw on Friday that the Iraqi government wants him to answer for 23.4 billion ($20 million) Iraqi dinars disappeared from his bank which he claims to have handed over to the local police before leaving town in 2014.

Rashid said that he decided to leave Jalawla after two Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS) jacket wallahs blew themselves up in front of the offices of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) that killed and maimed 80 people.

"The day two ISIS suicide bombers targeted the PUK security I started to feel the danger that the town may fall to ISIS and therefore I formally asked Iraq’s central bank to deliver the money to Khanaqin which they didn’t allow," explained Rashid.

"The same day I counted the money with eight staff members which came up to 23, 487,000,000 dinars," he added. "Then we locked the doors and handed the bank over to the police."

The town fell to ISIS bully boyz shortly after.

"The bank has two keys one of which is with me and the other with an Arab employee who due to the war left for Kirkuk with his family," said Rashid.

Now the Iraqi government through the integrity commission wants Rashid jugged
Yez got nuttin' on me, coppers! Nuttin'!
to answer for the disappearance of the cash which he says is unfair and discriminatory.

He asks why the heads of the banks of djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
, Fallujah and Tikrit all of which fell to ISIS and plundered have not been arrested.

The town of Jalawla saw some of the heaviest battles between Kurdish Peshmerga forces and ISIS in 2014 until its recapture by the end of that year.

The mayor of the town believes that ISIS bully boyz are responsible for the disappearance of the money, adding however that the bank manager should respect the law and his arrest warrant.

"We are one hundred percent certain that ISIS took the money in the Jalawla bank," Yakoub Yousif told Rudaw. "But if the arrest warrant on Rashid is legal then he must be arrested."

The arrest warrant for Rashid does not accuse him of stealing the money but rather of "neglect of duty" which caused large amounts of cash to end up in the coffers of ISIS.

"The integrity commission says that he [Rashid] did not take out the money or find a way out when war was breaking wit between ISIS and Peshmerga,’ the mayor said.

The Grand Turk
Turkish military given immunity in PKK fight
[RUDAW.NET] The Turkish parliament has voted to give more powers and authority to the military by granting them immunity from prosecution for actions they take while conducting operations against the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK).
Granting them license to rape, pillage, torture, and murder, are they? How's that EU membership thingy going, by the way?
Discussions are to resume shortly, now that the Brexit vote is over.
The law was passed late on Thursday and will make it significantly more difficult for alleged rights abuses to be properly investigated. Furthermore the permission of the military and politicianship of The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
will be needed before any soldier can face prosecution.

Critics have said this undermines civilian oversight over the military.

The law is being applied retroactively, meaning it covers the actions of the armed forces against the PKK since the war was reignited last July after the failure of the two year ceasefire.

This comes after human rights
When they're defined by the state or an NGO they don't mean much...
organizations and the United Nations
...an idea whose time has gone...
have expressed serious concern over the actions of the Turkish Armed Forces in their ongoing fight against the PKK, especially the curfews and sieges they leveled against urban areas where the PKK were believed to have had a presence.

Scores of civilians have been killed in festivities between the military and the PKK since last July. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him...
estimates that the Turkish state has managed to kill 7,500 PKK members since the resumption of hostilities, with a loss of 500 troops and security forces.

The vote to give the military immunity comes after the parliament voted to strip pro-Kurdish Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) parliamentarians of their immunity last May so they can be subject to criminal investigation for their alleged links to the PKK.

#1  It was only thanks to Turkish participation in the Korean War that the nation was able to escape its isolation that followed WWII. Kennedy kicked Turkey to the curb in 61. And its importance in the Cold War ended in 1990. Its significance in Europe is only due to the million Turkish workers German industrialists used to replace Jews as slaves -- and, ironicaly, who are now the tail that wags the dog. Turkey was given one sop with its entrance to NATO. Now an emerging Islamist nation, it certainly doesn't need another. Its entrance to the EU should be blocked -- which now seems moot thanks to Brexit.

Robert Kagan To Fundraise For Beest
[ForeignPolicy] A prominent neoconservative intellectual and early promoter of the Iraq War is headlining an official campaign fundraiser for Hillary Clinton next month, Foreign Policy has learned. The move signals a shift in the Clinton campaign’s willingness to associate with prominent Republicans and is the latest sign of how far some GOP defectors are willing to go to block a Donald Trump presidency.

Robert Kagan, a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution and a co-founder of the Project for the New American Century, will speak at a Hillary for America fundraiser in Washington’s Logan Circle neighborhood on July 21. According to an invite obtained by FP, the “event will include an off-the-record conversation on America’s continued investment in NATO, key European allies and partners, and the EU.”

Arabia
The Entangled Roots of the US - Saudi relationship
[Politico] On a cool summer day in London in 1951, an American CIA officer told three British oil executives about a top-secret U.S. government plan. The goal was to ravage the Middle East oil industry if the region were ever invaded by the Soviet Union. Oil wells would be plugged, equipment and fuel stockpiles destroyed, refineries and pipelines disabled--anything to keep the USSR from getting its hands on valuable oil resources. The CIA called it the "denial policy."

Such a plan couldn't work without the cooperation of the British and American companies who controlled the oil industry in the Middle East, which is why the CIA operative, George Prussing, ended up at the Ministry of Fuel and Power in London that day.

To the British representatives of Iraq Petroleum, Kuwait Oil and Bahrain Oil, Prussing detailed how their production operations in those countries would in effect be transformed into a paramilitary force, trained and ready to execute the CIA's plan in the event of a Soviet invasion. He asked for their help, and they agreed to cooperate. He also emphasized the need for security, which included keeping the policy secret from the targeted Middle East countries. "Security now is more important than the success of any operations," Prussing told them.

India-Pakistan
Anti-corruption myths
[DAWN] WHAT is the number one problem afflicting Pakistain? Is it a non-functional state or an elitist democracy or a country as isolated as North Korea, or poverty and the powerlessness of the masses? None of these, according to the standard discourse preached by a certain section of the elite, media and the military establishment -- Pakistain’s number one problem is corruption.

Leaving aside this fundamental debate, what cannot be denied is the central importance of corruption as a public issue. But what is problematic are the myths which have arisen with regard to the solution to corruption ie the ways of eradicating it. This mythical solution is: the ruthless application of the rule of law, under the supervision of the superior judiciary, assisted by all state institutions (ie NAB, FIA etc.) as well as by the military establishment. Critical to this mythical solution is the unquestionable assumption that the present Pak state is capable of solving the problem of corruption.

Corrupt state: Most states have corrupt officials or some corrupt state elites, or there are parts of the state structure which are ridden with corruption. But countries like Pakistain are different because the state here is not faced with a corruption problem; rather, the state itself is inherently corrupt.

Gorka: The 6 Things Obama Doesn't Want You to Know About the Islamic State
[Breitbart] Loretta Lynch said this week, after the Orlando massacre, that our most powerful weapon against people like Omar Mateen is "love." She is wrong. Love would not have worked against the Nazis or the totalitarians in the Kremlin. We are facing another totalitarian enemy that will not be negotiated with and that will not stop unless every "infidel" is enslaved or crushed. That truth is impossible for the President and his bubble-dwelling coterie to believe. As a result, Americans will continue to face an escalating risk until we have a change of administration.

The question is, will the new Commander-in-Chief perpetuate the lies and distortions of the last eight years or finally talk truthfully about the incarnate Evil that we face and what it will take to destroy it.

Iraq
Iraqi Forces Aim at Crucial Airbase in Final Fight Against IS
[Iraq Sun] Iraqi forces, backed by U.S. coalition Arclight airstrikes and Apache attack helicopters, began moving Wednesday toward the crucial al Qayyarah airfield south of djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
Known as a "super-base," the airfield has two major runways and previously was capable of handling fighter jets, helicopters and large U.S. transport planes. It lies just west of the Tigris river and of advancing Iraqi forces.

"It is like the U.S. fight for Baghdad in 2003," said one Iraqi commander speaking on the phone through a translator. "There are jet fighters in the sky, and below them are helicopters and on land we have ground forces with M1A1 tanks," the commander said on condition that he remain anonymous. "This is the way it is going right now," he said on Thursday.

U.S. coalition has been hammering IStargetsinthe area with Arclight airstrikes almost daily sinceJune 1. On Wednesday, four strikes hit an IS tactical unit, destroyed an IS assembly area and eight IS boats. On Tuesday, six strikes near Qayyarah destroyed IS bunkers, tunnelentrances, two mortar systems and six boats.

According to IHS Jane's Defence Weekly, photographs released by Iraq's Ministry of Defense last week showed OshKosh M-All Terrain Vehicles armed with heavy machine guns, Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles and M1A1 Abrams tanks advancing towards al Qayyarah. Iraq's 9th Armored Division and brigades of the U.S.-trained 15th Infantry Division are moving in from Makhmour, from where Iraqi forces started their offensive towards Mosul in March.

Mosul is the country's second largest city and IS's "capital" in Iraq.

U.S. Special Envoy Brett McGurk met with Kurdish Regional President Masoud Marzani and Iraq's National Security Advisor Faleh al Fayyad on Sunday to lay the ground for taking the city. McGurk said on his Twitter feed that the meeting aimed at preparing the political-military plan for Mosul's "full liberation."

Kurdish commanders have insisted a political agreement on how the city will be taken and how it will be controlled afterwards is essential to a successful military operation. There are concerns that a heavy Shi'ite militia presence in the operationcould aggravate the sectarian divisions exploited by IS in Iraq. Iraqi security forces have been boosted by Shi'ite militia in other offensives, including in Fallujah.

Europe
Wilders calls for referendum on EU
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Dutch anti-Islam MP Geert Wilders on Friday called for the Netherlands to hold a referendum on whether to leave the EU, shortly after Britannia voted for a Brexit.

"The Dutch people deserve a referendum as well. The Party for Freedom consequently demands a referendum on NExit, a Dutch EU exit," Wilders said in a statement.

"We want be in charge of our own country, our own money, our own borders, and our own immigration policy," Wilders said in a statement.

"If I become prime minister, there will be a referendum in the Netherlands on leaving the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
as well. Let the Dutch people decide."

Elections are not due in the Netherlands until next year, but since last year polls have consistently shown support for the Freedom Party (PVV) climbing on the back of the refugee crisis.

Although it is has slipped back in recent months, the last polls from May showed Wilders’ party would win the largest support gaining some 31 seats in the 150-seat party, more than doubling its current 15 seats.

The statement sent by Wilders’ PVV said that recent polls showed a majority of Dutch people were in favour of holding a referendum, and that most would vote to leave.

The Netherlands, which currently holds the rotating presidency of the EU, held a referendum earlier this year on whether to back closer cooperation between the EU and Ukraine. Turnout was low, but over 60 percent voted against the deal.

SDF advance towards Manbij city centre

(ISIS) gunnies on Thursday, advancing to within just two kilometres from the city centre.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitor reported that the fighters were engaging ISIS gunnies in heavy festivities in Manbij’s western districts, only two kilometres from the city centre.

This marks the first time the SDF, a coalition of forces dominated by the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG), entered Manbij after capturing surrounding villages and farmland and laying siege to the city.

Despite launching vicious counter-attacks against SDF positions, ISIS has been unable to break the siege and is steadily losing ground.

The SDF launched their offensive against the strategically-important ISIS-held city just over three weeks ago. With Manbij under SDF control, ISIS will be completely off from the Turkish border.

They are being supported in this offensive by US-led coalition air support and special forces’ advisors.

Thursday’s festivities bring the total number of casualties in this campaign to 63 SDF fighters and at least 458 ISIS bully boys.

Nearby in Raqqa province, ISIS repelled a Syrian regime offensive, kicking the Syrian army out of areas they had recaptured from the gunnies earlier this month.

Iraq
Iraqi forces capture district in Salah Al-Din
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Makhool, a district in the province of Salah Al-Din which lies north of Baghdad, has been recaptured from ISIS militants on Friday, the Iraqi government said in a statement.

“The Iraqi forces raised an Iraqi flag at the center of the district after making the enemy incur human and equipment losses,” the statement read.

Iraqi security forces backed by volunteer forces were able to claim control over Makhool’s surrounding mountains more than four months ago after heavy clashes with ISIS.

Salah al-Din is on the border with Nineveh province where Iraq’s second largest city of Mosul is located. Mosul fell under ISIS control since June 2014.

Iraqi forces are currently trying to head to Qayyarah Airfield West, a former Iraqi air force base in Nineveh, before embarking a full-fledged operation to liberate Mosul.

On Thursday, Iraqi commanders were also preparing to dislodge ISIS fighters from pockets of territory in Fallujah’s northern and western neighborhoods where the militants have dug in after largely fleeing their positions in the city center last week.

Before Iraqi forces rolled into central Fallujah under cover of US-led coalition airstrikes, they were bogged down for weeks, trying to push through deep defensive trenches, tunnels and houses converted into bunkers by ISIS militants on the city’s southern edge. Now looking to the city’s north, Iraqi commanders expect to encounter a similarly fierce fight.
