CBS Reports Iceland Has 'Virtually Eliminated' Down Syndrome with Abortion
[Townhall] CBS featured a story Monday about "the country where Down syndrome is disappearing," namely Iceland. Had they uncovered an amazing new treatment for the chromosome abnormality that causes Down syndrome? No, CBS was reporting on the prenatal screenings that caused diagnosis and close to 100 percent abortion rates for unborn Down syndrome babies.

In other words, Iceland has not "virtually eliminated" Down syndrome, as this tweet suggests. Iceland promotes screening for the condition and abortion.

"With the rise of prenatal screening tests across Europe and the United States, the number of babies born with Down syndrome has significantly decreased,"CBS opens, "but few countries have come as close to eradicating Down syndrome births as Iceland."

CBS describes the extensive prenatal screenings which "are optional," but "the government states that all expectant mothers must be informed about availability of screening tests, which reveal the likelihood of a child being born with Down syndrome. Around 80 to 85 percent of pregnant women choose to take the prenatal screening test, according to Landspitali University Hospital in Reykjavik."

#3  IIRC, the prenatal test for Downs Syndrome is not 100% accurate. Thus, there will be false positives. Who knows, they might accidentally kill the person who would have grown up to cure cancer.

Oh, well.

Sen. Bernie Sanders Tweets That Trump Has 'Some Responsibility' for Charlottesville Attack
[Townhall] In a video tweeted out on his official account, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) said that he believes Trump has "some responsibility" for this past weekend's attack at a rally in Charlottesville that resulted in the death of Heather Hayer. The suspect, James Alex Fields, Jr., has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder.

An earlier version of the tweet was more blunt in the actual message, saying that Trump "absolutely" had responsibility for the attack. This tweet was deleted.

Of course, this is rather odd rhetoric from Sanders, especially considering that one of his supporters (and a former campaign volunteer), James T. Hodgkinson, attempted to massacre an entire baseball team full of Republican congressman two months ago. By the grace of God and House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA)'s security detail, the members were not killed, although Scalise did suffer serious enough injuries to spend quite a bit of time in the ICU.

Law or Mob Rule--Reflections on the Cultural Was Unfolding
by JohnQC

I woke up this morning and look at the news over coffee. The first story that caught my attention was that of the mobsters in Durham tearing down a statue of a confederate soldier. It put me in a mind akin to when the Taliban blew up the Buddhist statues in Afghanistan about the time of our involvement in the Taliban/AQ war after 911. These were the ancient 1700-year old Buddhist Statues of Bamiyan. After failing to destroy the 1,700-year-old sandstone statues of Buddha with anti-aircraft and tank fire, the Taliban brought a lorryload of dynamite from Kabul to complete the job. The statues were "offensive" to the Taliban much like the statues of confederate soldiers and confederate leaders are offensive to the left today. Suppose, extremists decided to blow up streets, university buildings, or statues that were erected or dedicated to honor people on the left whom we might disagree with but we honor none-the-less. We are not headed in a good direction and the Philistinism behavior that attempts to erase and destroy a part of our history needs to be stopped.

Long ago on this site, I chose the nym JohnQC, the abbreviated version of John Q. Citizen, an internet name to represent just a regular guy like Joe the Plumber or John Doe. I am not an "ist" or follow some "ism." I am just an aging American approaching my 8th decade and saddened by what I see. I am not a National Socialist or a fascist or a skinhead (albeit a little bereft of hair). I don't think of myself as being particularly left or right. Like many college students, I was a bit left-leaning but believed in the miracle which is the U.S. Over many years, I have evolved into a Constitutional conservative as many people do after becoming a "seasoned citizen." You may have experienced similar transitions over time for some of the same reasons discussed below.

The Constitution as well as the Declaration of Independence were brilliant documents. These are documents which represent the basic agreement by which we live in America. The Constitution is the basis of our law. The document even provides the mechanism for changing or amending it if we choose to do so. If we do not follow this basic agreement, we become lawless and head towards anarchy, statism and the tyranny of the mob that follows from casting aside the basic laws of our country. We see signs of this tyranny in our streets today.

We are at that place in our history where we are in danger of anarchy with the blessings of too many elected officials. In 2008 after his election, Barack Obama spoke about the "fundamental transformation of the nation." We knew little about what he meant at the time. We are still experiencing that "fundamental transformation" and it is not good. Many of us who did not vote for Obama, took the attitude of let's wait and see how he does. Perhaps, his election will get the country over a few rough bumps from an at-times rocky past history. That did not happen and it seems his election only exacerbated problems and made things worse. Barack Obama seemed to pick at the healed scabs of our history. The country moved towards the radical left and increasing tyranny--a tyranny like we have not seen before. We are witnessing Obama's legacy today. It is a legacy of "community organizing" replacing the rule of law. It is a legacy where mob rule and anarchy have replaced law. Moreover, I doubt that those in the street ever question who funds their efforts or what those funders represent. These mobs are not just spontaneous flash mobs. They are well-organized and well-funded efforts by the extreme left to replace our Republic. With what? Communism? Anarchy? These movements are replete with failures and the large-scale slaughter slaughter of citizens. There is a need to look at these puppeteers who pull the strings and think they have a better answer to government than our Democratic Republic form. We have fought off external threats of Communism and fascism over time and survived.

Now we are in the gravest of danger from internal threats. We witness the streets being taken over by mobs. We witness their destruction of the property of others. We witness their violence against others who speak out or disagree with them. We see the attempts at the destruction of religion, property rights, law, and now the destruction and erasure of history. It is like a cancer in gnawing away at the fabric of our country.

The Antifascists are really fascists with a different name, communists. Fascists or communists, they are statists with tyranny in mind. With some, it is not that complicated, they are just angry, unhappy and some with serious mental issues who want to see everything torn down. They try to legitimize what they do by glomming on to some movement that thinly cloaks sedition and treasonous behavior.

The corporate media has done us a great disservice by choosing a side. They, like the Deep State, tend to be left-wing or what is today called a Democrat. The corporate media has, in a sense, abdicated its necessary role in a free state; that of a free press. How do they do a disservice to citizens? They publish propaganda and disinformation. They fail to properly vet our candidates who are up for election or re-lection. They fail us by reporting news in a biased manner. These things taken together, make it difficult for hard-working people to obtain the information which they need to make informed decisions--to participate in government in a meaningful way. Instead, the want to be the arbiters of our elections.

The parallels with National Socialist Germany in its ascendancy (or more properly descendancy) are frightening. Similarly, with the Communist takeovers of other countries. If we continue on this path, dire things are likely to come which seems to be the goal of those spreading chaos.

#1  Bravo!

The role the media plays is the scariest part. Everybody is expected to say certain things when an event like this occurs. Anybody who sees a more complex picture is labeled a NAZI. Just because I see Antifa and BLM for what they are doesn't mean I'm a NAZI. The whole story never gets presented. Really, really scary.

#2  I fear that so many feel so helpless. What are regular citizens to in fighting the commercial behemoths who seek to chain our thinking and silence our speech. The feeling of helplessness is worsened because so many of those in public office seem to thrown in their lot with the orcs. It leaves the individual with nothing to do but think of sabotage. A little wrench thrown into the works of these bastards, every day, sometimes several times a day might slow them down if the actions are taken by millions. People need to start thinking how to make these bad guy's days worse in every way. Make them pay.

Soldiers and Contractors lose - Court Deals Major Blow to Veterans Suing Over Burn Pits
[Mil.com] A federal judge has dismissed a major lawsuit against a defense contractor by veterans and their family members, over burn pit operations in Iraq and Afghanistan that plaintiffs said caused them chronic and sometimes deadly respiratory diseases and cancer.

In the decision, U.S. District Court Judge Roger W. Titus wrote that the company, KBR, could not be held liable for what was essentially a military decision to use burn pits for waste disposal. Titus said holding the Pentagon responsible was outside of his jurisdiction.

"The extensive evidence ... demonstrates that the mission-critical, risk-based decisions surrounding the use and operation of open burn pits ... were made by the military as a matter of military wartime judgment," Titus wrote in an 81-page opinion.

The dismissal -- the second by Titus in the case -- deals a major blow to the more than 700 veterans, family members and former KBR employees who brought the suit.

White Supremacist Leader in Charlottesville Jason Kessler Was Obama Supporter – Occupy Protester
White supremacist and ’Unite the Right’ leader, Jason Kessler, was once reportedly a supporter a former President Obama and the Occupy movement.

According to the Southern Poverty Law Center (an organization that is certainly no friend to Conservatives), Kessler revealed his political transformation around November 2016, the same month then candidate Donald Trump won the presidential election.

Southern Poverty Law Center reports:

Rumors abound on white nationalist forums that Kessler’s ideological pedigree before 2016 was less than pure and seem to point to involvement in the Occupy movement and past support for President Obama.

At one recent speech in favor of Charlottesville’s status as a sanctuary city, Kessler live-streamed himself as an attendee questioned him and apologized for an undisclosed spat during Kessler’s apparent involvement with Occupy. Kessler appeared visibly perturbed by the woman’s presence and reminders of their past association.

Kessler himself has placed his "red-pilling" around December of 2013 when a PR executive was publicly excoriated for a tasteless Twitter joke about AIDS in Africa.

Regarding the incident, Kessler stated "... so it was just a little race joke, nothing that big of a deal, she didn’t have that many followers, she probably didn’t think anybody was gonna see it,"

Regardless of Kessler’s past politics, the rightward shift in his views was first put on display in November, 2016 when his tirade against Wes Bellamy began.

On Sunday, a violent leftist mob shut down a press conference by white nationalists Richard Spencer and Jason Kessler outside of Charlottesville City Hall.

The mob reportedly chased Spencer and Kessler back to their waiting vehicles.

Leftest win: Texas A&M Cancels "White Lives Matter" Rally Reservation
[LI] Monday night, Texas A&M University released a statement saying the university had canceled a campus event reservation held by Preston Wiginton. Wiginton helped organize white nationalist leader Richard Spencer’s campus visit late last year and promised Spencer would attend the upcoming rally scheduled for September 11.

But Texas A&M University is having no part of it. Citing potential for student harm, disruption to the normal class day, and the fact that Wiginton hadn’t been invited or sponsored by any campus student organization, the university canceled the event reservation:

CNN guest interview - Challenges to 'blackness' and instructions to 'shut up' (Video)
[Breitbart] During a live broadcast aired on CNN on Monday, Democrat supporter Keith Boykin called into question the "blackness" of black Republican commentator Paris Dennard.

Mr. Dennard, who served as the Director of Black Outreach in the George W. Bush White House, reacted with anger as Boykin attempted to race-shame him.

Allegations of "Uncle Tom" behaviour are often hurled by left-wing activists as a means to silence or shame minorities who lean conservative. Recently, the phenomenon spread to Muslims or ex-Muslims who find their political allegiances on the right of the political spectrum.

Despite the network hosts earlier urging Ken Cuccinelli to apologise for telling another contributor to "shut up" during a discussion, anchor Brooke Baldwin made no attempt to get Boykin to apologise for his on-air racism.

Speaking about the Charlottesville violence, Boykin baited Dennard, stating: "I’m ashamed that you as an African-American, Paris, will not say [that President Trump has not done enough]."

CNN’s Symone Sanders Calls Out White Pundit Who Told Her To ‘Shut Up’ On Live TV (Video)
[Huff Poo] CNN’s Symone Sanders will not be spoken down to, and she made this message loud and clear during a segment on Monday morning’s episode of "New Day."
Pouty lips will swell whilst blood pressure elevates.
The segment, which was hosted by Chris Cuomo and centered on the white supremacist-led rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, on Saturday, included an ugly exchange between Sanders, a former spokeswoman for Sen. Bernie Sanders’ presidential campaign, and Ken Cuccinelli, a Republican politician. At one point, Cuccinelli directed Sanders to "just shut up" while he spoke.

His remarks came amid a discussion about the circumstances that led to Saturday’s rally. Sanders said Cuccinelli was "dismissing" the real danger of white supremacy and reminded him of how the violent demonstration was an "egregious symptom" of America’s widespread issues of racism.

Moments later, after Sanders briefly interrupted Cuccinelli to acknowledge the death that resulted from the rally, he replied: "Will you just shut up and let me finish, Simone?"
Sanders briefly interrupted ???
Sanders immediately shut him down.

Spengler: The triumph of inequality
[PJMedia] We spent a great deal of time talking about inequality of opportunity and outcomes. The tech industry is fanatically progressive in its opinions, as the unfortunate James Damore, formerly of Google, recently learned. The tech industry's drivel about diversity and equality masks a guilty conscience: Digital technology creates inequality of a kind we have never seen before in human history.

Instead of talking about inequality of outcomes, suppose we talked about inequality of knowledge?

Three hundred years ago, pretty much everyone knew how their technology work. Europe had lived for a millennium on the innovations of the Carolingian Renaissance: the water wheel, the horse collar and three-field crop rotation. Everyone knew how a water wheel worked. Water pushed the paddles and gears turned the millstones. Not everyone knew how a steam engine worked, but a lot of people did. The same applied to internal combustion engines.

...The great divide is not between black and white, male and female,We are turning into two races: Eloi who play video games and Morlocks who program them. The July 3 New York Times reported, "By 2015, American men 31 to 55 were working about 163 fewer hours a year than that same age group did in 2000. Men 21 to 30 were working 203 fewer hours a year...video games have been responsible for reducing the amount of work that young men do by 15 to 30 hours over the course of a year. Between 2004 and 2015, young men’s leisure time grew by 2.3 hours a week. A majority of that increase -- 60 percent -- was spent playing video games."

#1  Video Games? The new '50s devil of the comic book straw man?

Since Obamacare, working more than 28 hours a week becomes a economical disincentive to employers. More like government mandated time off.

#2  I've gotten to meet Mr. Goldman and found him to be quite erudite, intense and broadly knowledgeable.

I can guarantee that he is using video games metaphorically not literally. Many years ago James Burke did a couple of series on this phenomenon. Look up "Connections" and "The day the Universe Changed". They are very interesting and informative. (Extra points if you can find the topless scene)

This is pretty much nailed by the commercial "That's not how this works; that's not how any of this works." I also suggest that you reread "The Time Machine" to remember exactly what Eloi and Morlochs are.

Along with a little factoid, that if you make 18,000 (US) dollars a year, you are in the top 4 percent of the worlds population. Then ask would you like to join those 96 percent by 'killing the goose that laid the golden egg'?

#4  P2k, I tried to do that a couple of years ago when I was a substitute middle school teacher.

End of the year doldrums meant that I had 3 days of time to "monitor" the classes while the year ended. I suggested that I show the kids DTUC since I own a copy and figured it would be better than the cartoon (literally) show that was scheduled. Was told " no way I should show such controversial material !!"

I stopped subbing when Common Core was mandated and learning abandoned.

#5  ...video games have been responsible for reducing the amount of work that young men do by 15 to 30 hours over the course of a year.
The Arrow of Causation is as backwards as saying that 'pigeons are caused by droppings on windshields'. At the same time: tell people that low-skilled jobs are "beneath them", raise minimum wages so there are fewer jobs, and provide financial incentives to support non-workers. First Cloward-Pliven and then the Gulags where people are forced to work at whatever the State requires.

The transgender madness has got to stop
[IsraelNationalNews] ...The knee-jerk tendency to assume (and wish?) that people are transgender has become so pervasive that anyone who shows interest in that which is not wholly typical for his or her gender is suspected of very likely being "trans". While such thinking is foolish and myopic, reflecting a mind tightly locked in a socially-progressive bubble, it is also downright dangerous.

...Placing in young children’s minds the notion that they are likely of a different gender is dangerous and sends messages of confusion. And what happens later when children mature and are in a different phase, suddenly showing an interest in that which better matches their gender? Would a female-born "trans boy" who is now attracted to males and who now prefers makeup over boxing be deemed to have become a "double-trans girl", or some other conjured-up classification invented by those who reject the gender that was divinely-assigned at birth?

...Let us allow people to be as God created them and not impose on them the artificial and damaging categories that social progressives contrive in an effort to tamper with nature and truth.
IMO, the biggest problem of leftism (including national socialism) is that they just don't get "wanting isn't getting"

Europe
Macron is the Peter Pan of Europe
[IsraelNationalNews] With 66% of electoral support, Emmanel Macron achieved an indisputable victory against Marine Le Pen. But the meaning of his victory is less clear.

A very small part of the voters embraced Macron’s vision of France. The majority voted mostly to block the way to Le Pen, who for various reasons is still massively rejected by the political class. Some see Macron as the spiritual brother of Justin Trudeau, even if he is less flamboyant. Macron wants to give optimism to his country. Those who are worried about populism will applaud him. Macron wants to be progressive. Those who have reservations about the globalization that deconstructs societies will be worried. Macron is comfortable with multiculturalism.

Eric Zémmour on the radio just said new France’s president is "Peter Pan at the Eliseo". He then called Macron "the eternal youth syndrome, the God of the consumer society". The French-Canadian intellectual Mathieue Bock-Coté spoke of Macron as the president of "liberal consensus" who won in the name of "diversity". Francois Xavier-Bellamy defined Macron as "the France which forgets", the France which chooses the "cultural euthanasia". Ivan Rioufol, a well known columnist at Le Figaro, wrote that Macron is the expression of the "bourgeois urban left".

Protestors Topple Confederate Statue In North Carolina [VIDEO]
[Daily Caller] A group of protestors toppled a monument to Confederate soldiers in Durham, N.C., Monday evening in response to a white supremacist rally that turned violent over the weekend.

During the protest, a woman climbed up the statue located at the entrance of the Durham County courthouse and affixed a rope just after 7 p.m. EST, local CBS affiliate WNCN reported.

The group quickly pulled the statue from the its pedestal and began spitting on it and kicking it when it fell to the ground.

The statue was erected in 1924 "in memory of ’the boys who wore the gray,'" and is one of several war monuments around the courthouse. Other monuments near the site include memorials to both World Wars, the Korean War and the Vietnam War.

"It needs to be removed," Loan Tran, one of the protest’s organizers, told WNCN Monday. "These Confederate statues in Durham, in North Carolina, all across the country."

"When I see a Confederate statue in downtown Durham, or really anywhere, it fills me with a lot of rage and frustration," Tran said.

The "Unite the Right" rally, which turned deadly Saturday, was first organized to protest the removal of a Gen. Robert E. Lee statue in Charlottesville, Va. The rally turned into a violent clash between several white supremacist and neo-Nazi groups and Antifa.

Buchanan: If We Erase Our History, Who Are We?
[Townhall] When the Dodge Charger of 20-year-old Nazi sympathizer James Alex Fields Jr., plunged into that crowd of protesters Saturday, killing 32-year-old Heather Heyer, Fields put Charlottesville on the map of modernity alongside Ferguson.

Before Fields ran down the protesters, and then backed up, running down more, what was happening seemed but a bloody brawl between extremists on both sides of the issue of whether Robert E. Lee's statue should be removed from Emancipation Park, formerly Lee Park.

With Heyer's death, the brawl was elevated to a moral issue. And President Donald Trump's initial failure to denounce the neo-Nazi and Klan presence was declared a moral failure.

How did we get here, and where are we going?

In June of 2015, 21-year-old Dylann Roof gunned down nine Christians at an evening Bible study in Charleston's Emanuel AME Church. A review of Roof's selfies and website showed him posing with the Confederate battle flag.

Gov. Nikki Haley, five years in office, instantly pivoted and called for removal of the battle flag from the Confederate war memorial on the State House grounds, as a "deeply offensive symbol of a brutally offensive past."

This ignited a national clamor to purge all statues that lionize Confederate soldiers and statesmen.

In Maryland, demands have come for removing statues and busts of Chief Justice Roger Taney, the author of the Dred Scott decision. Statues of Gen. "Stonewall" Jackson, President Jefferson Davis and Robert E. Lee have been pulled down in New Orleans.

#4  We need to remember our history. All of it. The good and the bad. The noble and the dark side of our past as a nation. We haven't allways lived the ideals our founders espoused in the Declaration and Constitution. One of the problems with those who would impose their view of morality or social justice today on the past is they are all too often willing to find fault in all the actions of former generations. I can admire the courage displayed by the average Southern soldier during the American Civil War. Just as I can admire the courage of the men in the Irish or Iron Brigades. But I can also understand what the root cause of the ACW was. And how it still affects our lives today. And that cause was slavery. I can also understand how some elements in society both the North and South benifited keeping other human beings in bondage. And why some saw it as morally repungnent. It was the radicals on both sides that touched off actual conflict. Starting in Kansas and leading to prehaps the most divisive presidential election on American history. That of 1860. The question today is do we let the radicals on both sides drag us down the path again.

#5  Got to remember, the globalists are trying to destroy national identity. Thus the destruction of history as a common shared experience. In doing so they miss the warning that those 'evil' statutes represent, a form of tribalism. Those southerners were manipulated by their leadership to die to preserve their interests by exploiting the tribal identification which in 1860 was the state not the nation. They fought with their tribe be they Virginia, Georgia, Texas et al. They miss the warning of the break up of their Soviet Union along lines of long established tribes, Estonia, Latvia, Ukraine, et al. Their own practice of exploiting race, gender et al is just another form of tribalism. What they can't grasp that in their own efforts they are in the process of creating an even bigger tribe which they do not and can not control. When they erase their history, they remove the anchoring of those inherit aspects of Western Civ which includes tolerance and mercy that are so lacking in the history of other cultures. They will inherit the consequence.

Charlottesville, truth, and the new cultural revolution
[American Thinker] Those who control the narrative control the truth. Following Charlottesville, all must understand the broader context of current events ‐ the conservative movement (not to be confused with media-created Alt-Right or white nationalists) desires the restoration of America's founding principles, as documented in the Declaration of Independence, Constitution, and Bill of Rights.

The principles of freedom are universal (all men) and are granted by God. Our founding documents enshrined these rights, and were "exceptional" in their development and institutionalization.

There is a counter-movement that seeks America's destruction and the imposition of a new covenant, predicated on the wisdom of man or, more particularly, a select group of men, who seek to manage the affairs of all man.

These two contradictory principles are reflected as liberty and tyranny. Freedom and totalitarianism. Charlottesville was a "shot heard 'round the world" of the opening salvo in the final battle between these two worldviews.

What is remarkable (about our current culture) is the virtue-signaling and moral superiority maintained by those who control the dominant (leftist) narrative. It is not possible, as President Trump asserted, that "all parties" are to blame for the violence perpetrated at the ill-named "Unite The Right" event in Charlottesville. The left controls the narrative and has a lock on what is determined to be "hate."

Haftar: Army insists on extending its control over the entire Libyan territory
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The commander of the Libyan army, Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar
... served in the Libyan army under Muammar Qadaffy, and took part in the coup that brought Qadaffy to power in 1969. He became a prisoner of war in Chad in 1987. While held prisoner, he and his fellow officers formed a group hoping to overthrow Qadaffy. He was released around 1990 in a deal with the United States government and spent nearly two decades in the United States, gaining US citizenship. In 1993, while living in the United States, he was convicted in absentia of crimes against the Jamahiriya and sentenced to death. Haftar held a senior position in the anti-Qadaffy forces in the 2011 Libyan Civil War. In 2014 he was commander of the Libyan Army when the General National Congress (GNC) refused to give up power in accordance with its term of office. Haftar launched a campaign against the GNC and its Islamic fundamentalist allies. His campaign allowed elections to take place to replace the GNC, but then developed into a civil war. Guess you can't win them all...
confirmed the insistence of the Libyan troops to continue fighting "until the armed forces extends its control over the entire Libyan territory."

On Monday morning and during a presser with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Moscow, Haftar asserted: "We have been involved in political settlements at the request of sister countries. I started with meeting the President of the Presidential Council Fayez al-Siraj in Abu Dhabi and then in Gay Paree, but he disregarded many of the agreed upon principles and conditions."

He added that: "The whole world has been following the sacrifices of the army for three years in its fight against terrorism under an unjust siege represented by the prohibition of arming it in parallel with unlimited support for terrorism," stressing that the army is determined to continue its mission in the fight against terrorism throughout the country.

International mediators called not to resort to what he called "ready-made solutions to resolve the Libyan crisis," asserting that there will not be any support for any political settlement unless it is " under the sponsorship of the United Nations
...an idea whose time has gone...
, and that Moscow actively supports the political process and the restoration of the Libyan state structures."

Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar arrived in Moscow at the invitation of Russia to discuss a number of files. The Information Office of the Libyan army leadership commented that among the issues discussed is "ways to support the fight against terrorism and the latest political situation in Libya."

China-Japan-Koreas
North Korea leader holds off on Guam plan, will watch U.S. bit longer: KCNA
[REUTERS] North Korea's leader received a report from his army on its plans to fire missiles toward Guam and said he will watch the actions of the United States for a while longer before making a decision, the North's official news agency said on Tuesday.

North Korea said last week it was finalizing plans to launch four missiles into the waters near the U.S. Pacific territory of Guam, and its army would report the strike plan to leader Kim Pudge Jong-un
...the overweight, pouty-looking hereditary potentate of North Korea. Pudge appears to believe in his own divinity, but has yet to produce any loaves and fishes, so his subjects remain malnourished...
and wait for his order.

Kim, who inspected the command of the North's army on Monday, examined the plan for a long time and discussed it with army officers, the official KCNA said in a report.

"He said that if the Yankees persist in their extremely dangerous reckless actions on the Korean peninsula and in its vicinity, testing the self-restraint of the DPRK, the latter will make an important decision as it already declared," the report said.

The front man says he could provide no other details because the incident is under investigation. The names of those killed have not been publicly released.

When the deaths were announced yesterday, the US military said the incident did not involve enemy fire, but provided no other details.

Ahmadinejad compares Khamenei to Shah, launches blistering salvo
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Former Iranian President Mahmoud Short Round Ahmadinejad has severely criticized Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei by comparing him to the former Shah of Iran, who was deposed in the country’s 1979 revolution.

"No one is more important than the people," Ahmadinejad gushed in a recorded clip, part of which was broadcast on his Twitter account. "Positions of power in any government are not inherited by a special group. We did not rise in a revolution against a family to replace it with another family," he stressed. The remarks were a clear reference to the domination of Ali Khamenei, his family and his entourage on Iranian governance.

Relations between Khamenei and Ahmadinejad soured in the run-up to presidential elections held over a month ago, when the Supreme Leader had asked Ahmedinejad to stand down in order to prevent "polarization" in the country. Later the Guardian Council, a panel of jurists following Khamenei’s diktats, disqualified the candidature of the former president and his close ally Hamid Baghaei on the pretext of their ineligibility to run in the presidential elections.

In his speech, whose full version the former president promised will be broadcast soon, warned of significant escalations facing the country in the times ahead.

In the wake of growing tensions with Ahmadinejad, judicial authorities under the influence of the Supreme Leader, had tossed in the slammer
I ain't sayin' nuttin' widdout me mout'piece!
and held the former president’s ally Hamid Baghei for several days before releasing him late last month.

They had also held Abdelraza Daouri, former media adviser to Ahmadinejad, because of "offensive" remarks found on his Facebook account by anonymous respondents. For this ’crime’, Daouri was sentenced to three years' imprisonment.

#2  Actually I do! The Afghan National Defense and Security Forces received jumping jacks training, while the Taliban never got any training.

Basically, the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces has better coordination and communication, and works together in teams, while the Talibans apparently subscribe to the Rambo school of soldering.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
VDH on Dunkirk - the Movie and the History
[Hoover] It is perhaps unfair to critique Dunkirk's focus on the common soldier and the near anonymous killing swirling about him. But even here, greater detail would have enhanced the film's emphases on the personal experience of battle. In the movie, the sheer tapestry of the British rescue effort never fully unfolds.

In fact, well over 800 British warships, merchant marine boats, fishing trawlers, and yachts formed a huge armada that dotted the horizon off the Dunkirk coast. Yet that vast maritime landscape is never captured by the film's portrait of a seemingly smallish private flotilla.

The film also shows the littered beaches of Dunkirk, but again the effect of the screen's occasional flotsam and jetsam is understatement. In fact, the wreckage of the British army was unimaginable. Almost all of its artillery‐well over 2,000 field guns of various sizes‐over 60,000 wheeled vehicles, 700 tanks, and over 11,000 machine guns were lost, much of them left scattered on the beach, a reality that again is hardly captured by the film.
Do read the whole thing, and if you have a few weeks, or retire, read Churchill's The Second World War, too.

Musharraf’s N-technology disclosure embarrassed Pakistan: Foreign Office
[DAWN] The disclosure made by retired General Pervez Perv Musharraf
... former dictator of Pakistain, who was less dictatorial and corrupt than any Pak civilian government to date ...
in his 2006 autobiography that Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan transferred sensitive nuclear material to North Korea had come as a big embarrassment to the country, an official of the Foreign Office said on Friday at a meeting of the Senate’s Foreign Relations Committee.

The disclosure had forced the Foreign Office on the defensive and left it with no choice but to regurgitate the standard response that Pakistain was firmly against nuclear proliferation, the additional secretary said.

Foreign diplomats viewed the statement with scepticism and disbelief, he added.

The Foreign Office reply came in response to a question by Senator Farhatullah Babar as to what was North Korea’s official reaction to Pervez Musharraf’s revelation in his memoir, In the Line of Fire, that a clandestine proliferation network operating from Pakistain had transferred nearly two dozen centrifuge machines, a flow meter and some special oils to North Korea.

Europe
NATO, the Med, Iran: study details extent of cyber attacks on Italy
[TheLocal.it] More than 1760 messages from Italia's office at the EU in Brussels and from the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs were stolen between 2013 and 2016 by hackers linked to Russia and China, according to an investigation by Italian daily Repubblica.

The cyber attacks occurred at times when key decisions were being taken on Iran and the Ukraine in the last few years.

According to a special investigation by Repubblica, several confidential diplomatic cables on Syria and Libya were also intercepted or hacked by the Russian hacker group Apt 28, which cyber experts say has links to Russian government security forces.

Other hacks were effected by K3chang and Zegost, both groups believed to have links to the Chinese government, claims the report.

Information about NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. It's headquartered in Belgium. That sez it all....
exercises, migration policy in the Mediterranean and energy pipelines were hacked, according to the Repubblica investigation. Discussions about Russia sanctions were also stored on the same servers.

According to another study by Italia's largest daily Repubblica, more than 100,000 computers used by the Italian army could have been penetrated. The computers' software ‐ 15-years-old and not updated since 2015 ‐ is run by Araknos Srl.

Araknos became part of the Italian military industrial complex in the early 2000s, effectively becoming the partner of choice for cyber security in the Italian army, claims Repubblica's report.

Up until 2010 the company's AKAB software fought off most cyber attack attempts. But when the Italian government decided to sign a contract with a new cyber security firm, Araknos slowly fell into decline and finally closed in 2015.

Italia's Ministry of Defence claimed all its networks were "well protected" in response to the Repubblica investigation, arguing that it's AKAB-dependent softwares are not in active use.

Girl killed as car rams pizzeria in village near Paris
[BBC] A car has crashed into a pizzeria in a village east of the French capital Paris, killing a girl and injuring 12 other people, four of them seriously.

The driver of the BMW was arrested after the vehicle hit the terrace of the cafe in Sept-Sorts, near La Ferté-sous-Jouarre, French media say.

An interior ministry spokesman told the BBC the driver was 32 and French.

While his actions are said to have been deliberate, the incident is not being treated as a terror attack.

He had, the spokesman said, tried to kill himself a few days ago.
Then he tried to kill himself. This time he tried to kill others, and the mentally unbalanced suddenly committing jihad is part of the overall threat -- at any moment unbelievers might be attacked by either the sane or the insane.
It appears he had no previous criminal record.

According to RTL radio, he told police had weapons in the car.

First reports gave the age of the dead girl as eight but later she was said to have been 13.

Her little brother is among those injured, police sources told AFP news agency.

The incident in Sept-Sorts, a small village 55km (34 miles) east of Paris, happened around 20:30 (18:30 GMT).

"Half of the car entered the restaurant and knocked down all the customers and staff in its way," a soldier was quoted as saying by Le Parisien newspaper.

Palestinian Authority to free arrested journalists, lawyer says
[IsraelTimes] The Paleostinian Authority decided to release five journalists on Monday after arresting them last week, their lawyer says, a day after political rivals Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, released a PA-linked news hound.

The five, including from Hamas-linked media, had been jugged

in the occupied West Bank on accusations of "leaking sensitive information to enemy groups."

Three of the five were freed earlier Monday, with the others expected to be released later in the day, the lawyer says.

"The relevant courts decided to free five journalists and all journalists are supposed to be released," Alaa Freijat, lawyer for the Paleostinian Journalists Syndicate, tells AFP.

They were held under the PA’s new electronic crimes law, which has been criticized by rights groups who say it restricts criticism of officials on social and traditional media, with the potential for jail sentences.

Soldier lightly hurt by rock throwers in West Bank raid
[IsraelTimes] IDF arrests 12 Paleostinian suspects, seizes two guns from Paleostinian villages during overnight operations

A group of Paleostinians threw rocks at an IDF soldier, lightly wounding him, during an early morning operation in the Aqabat Jaber refugee camp, near Jericho, on Monday, the army said.

The soldier was taken to a hospital and was released back to his unit a short while later, the army said.

No arrests were made in the Paleostinian refugee camp.

Overnight, the IDF seized two guns in Paleostinian villages, one in Beit Sahour and the second in Yatta, a suburb of Hebron that has been the hometown of several holy warriors who carried out attacks in the past two years, the army said.

The weapon found in Beit Sahour was a hunting rifle, an IDF spokesperson said.

The firearm found in Yatta was a Carlo-style submachine gun, a type of firearm that is prevalent in the West Bank due to its comparative low cost and ease of manufacture.

In late 2015, the IDF launched an operation to crack down on this type of gun and has since raided dozens of workshops suspected of manufacturing them, locked away

weapons dealers and seized hundreds of Carlos.

The army handed the two guns found on Monday over to the police and Shin Bet security service for further investigation.

Elsewhere in the West Bank, the IDF also arrested 12 Paleostinians suspected of rock throwing or taking part in violent demonstrations against Israeli security forces, the army said.

The suspects were handed over to the police and Shin Bet for questioning, the army said.

Paramilitary troops shelled in Syria not Iraq: Spokesperson
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The pro-government Shia-led paramilitary forces have said that attacked factions will take the suitable measures to respond.

In a presser held in Baghdad on Monday, Ahmed al-Assadi, spokesperson of al-Hashd al-Shaabi (Popular Mobilization Units) said "the incidents which Sayyed al-Shuhada brigades were exposed to, occurred in depth of the Syrian land."

The troops in Syria, according to Assadi, "have been fighting there for around six years. They play a great role to prevent terrorism reach to Iraq."

If it weren’t for these factions deployed in Syria, "the Syrian regime would have fallen to those terrorists," Assadi said adding that factions "which suffer strikes, have the right to take the suitable measures."

Last week, the U.S.-led coalition denied allegations of shelling PMUs deployed near Iraqi-Syrian borders after Sayyid al-Shuhada brigades, a militia of the PMUs, said U.S. troops heavily shelled its positions across the Iraqi-Syrian borders early on Monday.

In May, Abu Alaa al-Wala’i, the secretary general of the militia, said the U.S. jets shelled the PMUs deployed in alBou Kamal region, near Iraqi-Syrian borders.

Assadi also added that the troops are only backed by Iraqi army and jets which provide them with air cover.

In November 2016, the Pentagon said the U.S.-led coalition would not provide air support to the PMUs.

has issued instructions warning bandidos snuffies against cutting their hair braids, a local source from Kirkuk province was quoted saying.

"IS made instructions through its media arm in Hawija, southwest of Kirkuk warning the bandidos snuffies against cutting their braids under any circumstance," the source told AlSumaria News on Monday. "The group set the hair braids as condition to accept new volunteers."

Speaking on condition of anonymity, the source said, "the group ordered twenty lashes, one-week imprisonment and banning from joining three departments, with the security one on top, for whoever violates."

The group, according to the source, "considers the outfits of bandidos snuffies and the hair style as evidence on sticking to the group’s principles."

On Sunday, the group reportedly imposed curfew in Hawija after bandidos snuffies seized flyers urging them to leave the town without destruction like they did in djinn-infested Mosul

and described them as ’pigs’

Hawija and other neighboring regions, west of Kirkuk,

have been held by IS since mid-2014, when the group emerged to proclaim an Islamic "caliphate" in Iraq and Syria. The group executed dozens of civilians and security members there, forcing thousands to flee homes.

Dozens of residents from Hawija and the regions in its vicinity escape to Kirkuk province on a daily basis. Despite the risky routes to the freed regions, the civilians prefer death to staying under IS control.

Egypt to open Gaza crossing for four days starting Monday
[AlAhram] Egypt will open its border crossing with Gazoo for four days starting Monday, state news agency MENA reported.

Earlier today, al-Ahram Arabic website quoted a Hamas delegation currently in Cairo as saying that the Rafah crossing would open for two days starting Wednesday, in one direction only, for Paleostinians to enter the Gazoo Strip.

According to the subsequent MENA report, the crossing will be open for four days, beginning on Monday, for Paleostinian pilgrims to cross from Gazoo to Egypt, in preparation for the hajj pilgrimage season in September.

There are also unconfirmed media reports that Paleostinians will be able to cross into Gazoo on Wednesday and Thursday.

A Hamas delegation arrived in Cairo on Friday for talks with officials, according to media reports.

Egypt has kept its border with the Gazoo Strip largely closed for security reasons since the ouster of Islamist ex-president Mohammed Morsi in 2013.

The crossing in northern Sinai is the only terminal not controlled by Israel.

Cairo periodically opens the border to allow civilians with foreign passports, Paleostinian students, and those with medical needs to travel back and forth.

The crossing was last opened temporarily in early July.

The border openings in recent months have come amid signs of improving ties between Cairo and Gazoo's governing group Hamas.
The Times of Israel adds:
“The crossing was reopened this morning for four days in one direction for 2,500 pilgrims," Hisham Adwan, director of information at the crossings authority of the Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth",-run interior ministry, said.

"About 800 pilgrims will leave the Strip today," he added, saying they had all already received Saudi visas.

3 East Jerusalem residents indicted for planning terror attack
[IsraelTimes] Prosecutors charge trio with attempting to carry out shooting assault on Nablus bypass road in West Bank

Prosecutors on Monday charged three residents of East Jerusalem, including an American citizen, with planning to carry out a terror attack in the West Bank.

According to the indictment, which was filed at the Jerusalem District Court, Muhammed Abu Khdeir, 22, Abbas Salahi, 22, and Omro Maatuk, 22, joined the Popular Front for the Liberation of Paleostine in October 2016 and in March began planning an attack.

After meeting with one of the terror group’s operatives, the three decided to carry out a shooting attack on a bypass road used by Israelis near the West Bank city of Nablus.

Despite their efforts, the trio were unable to acquire guns or materials for pipe bombs to be used in the attack before their arrest on July 14.

In addition to being indicted for membership of a terror group and planning a terror attack, the trio were also charged with a slew of weapons charges and rock throwing.

Salahi and Maatuk were also charged with attacking a police officer, while Maatuk was also charged with attempted arson and an additional count of attacking a police officer.

Prosecutors requested that the three be held in jug for the duration of the legal proceedings.

by Israeli authorities in 2014 for "acting with fireworks." He is the cousin of Mohammed Abu Khdeir, who was burned to death by Jewish snuffies in a grisly 2014 Dire Revenge attack that set off days of riots in East Jerusalem.

A family member told The Forward following his arrest in 2014 that Israeli authorities detained Abu Khdeir in order to restore calm to the Shuafat neighborhood in East Jerusalem.

There was no immediate comment from US authorities on the arrest.

Machine gun attack on UN Mali base in Timbuktu kills eight
[AlAhram] Gunmen attacked a United Nations

peacekeeping base in the northern Mali city of Timbuktu on Monday, officials said, killing eight people, including a peacekeeper, five Malian security guards, a gendarme and civilian.

"An attack has been launched against one of our camps in Timbuktu (by) unknown men with machine guns," Radhia Achouri, a spokeswoman for the U.N. peacekeeping mission, said earlier by telephone, adding that it had deployed a rapid response force with helicopters to the scene.

Mali's army front man Selon Diaran Kone said the incident was now over, as the assailants had been repelled and four of them killed. He gave the toll as seven Malians killed.

Frahan Haq, deputy, front man for the U.N. Secretary General said a peacekeeper was killed during the clash, without giving further details.

Islamist murderous Moslems frequently target the U.N. peacekeeping mission, and more than 100 peacekeepers have been killed, making it the most deadly U.N. mission to date.

Militants killed three United Nations peacekeepers in a attack outside their base in Kidal in northern Mali in June.

Two injured as Indian troops target civilian van in AJK
[DAWN] Two civilians were maimed in Azad Jammu and Kashmire (AJK) on Monday after Indian troops hit a vehicle from across the Line of Control (LoC), a local police official said.

The latest ceasefire violation coincided with the visit of Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa to the heavily militarised border which splits the disputed state of Jammu and Kashmire between Pakistain and India.

"A Suzuki van was coming to Hajira from Goi (Kotli) when it was targeted by Indian troops near Madarpur at about 2pm, without any provocation," police official Mohammad Shakeel told Dawn from the area.

"As a result, two persons on board the vehicle were maimed," he added, identifying the victims as Musharraf Iqbal and Hafiz Naveed.

The former, who sustained a bullet wound in his right leg, was taken to Hajira for treatment, while the latter, having sustained a bullet wound in his chest, was taken to District Headquarters Hospital Kotli, the official said.

China bans North Korean iron, seafood imports
[DAWN] China will halt iron, iron ore and seafood imports from North Korea starting Tuesday, following through on new UN sanctions after US pressure for Beijing to strongarm Pyongyang over its ally's nuclear programme.

The decision was announced on Monday after days of increasingly bellicose rhetoric between US President Donald Trump

's regime, which has raised international alarm about where the crisis is headed.

Beijing had pledged to fully enforce the latest sanctions after the United States accused China of not doing enough to rein in its neighbour, which relies heavily on the Asian giant for its economic survival.

The Chinese commerce ministry said on its website that all imports of coal, iron, iron ore and seafood will be "completely prohibited" from Tuesday.

Beijing had already announced a suspension of coal imports in February.

India says to deport all Rohingya regardless of UN registration
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] All of an estimated 40,000 Rohingya Moslems living in India are illegal immigrants colonists, even those registered with the UN refugee agency, and the government aims to deport them, a senior government official told Rooters.

Junior interior minister Kiren Rijiju told parliament last week the central government had directed state authorities to identify and deport illegal immigrants colonists including Rohingya, who face persecution in Buddhist-majority Myanmar.

The United Nations

High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has issued identity cards to about 16,500 Rohingya in India that it says help them "prevent harassment, arbitrary arrests, detention and deportation".

But Rijiju, a high-profile minister in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Hindu nationalist government, said in an interview on the weekend that the UNHCR registration was irrelevant.

"They are doing it, we can’t stop them from registering. But we are not signatory to the accord on refugees," he said.

"As far as we are concerned they are all illegal immigrants colonists They have no basis to live here. Anybody who is illegal migrant will be deported."

The UNHCR’s India office said on Monday the principle of non-refoulement ‐ or not sending back refugees to a place where they face danger ‐ was considered part of customary international law and binding on all states whether they have signed the Refugee Convention or not.

The office said it had not received any official word about a plan to deport Rohingya refugees, and had not got any reports deportations were taking place.

Somali Refugee Arrested Over Pirate Attack On Italian Oil Tanker
[RADIOSHABELLE] Italian police have jugged

a 24-year-old Somali asylum seeker on charges of being one of a gang of jihadist pirates who seized an Italian oil tanker in the Persian Gulf in 2011.

The tanker and its crew were held hostage for 10 months until a reported $11 million ransom was paid.

Mohammed Farah was caught by Carabinieri special force coppers after he applied for asylum as a refugee in the Sicilian town of Caltanissetta, police said.

Officers used fingerprint records to identify him as one of 50 alleged pirates who stormed the Savina Caylyn tanker on February 8, 2011, using rocket-propelled grenades and automatic weapons.

The ransom was reportedly paid to al-Shabaab

, a Somali terrorist gang, after the crew of five Italians and 17 Indians were tortured and mistreated during their 10-month ordeal.

Police found fingerprints on the tanker after its release and determined they did not belong to any of the crew.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
More Than 600,000 Syrians Return Home, Mainly to Aleppo
[AnNahar] More than 600,000 displaced Syrians have returned to their homes since the beginning of the year, with most of them heading to Aleppo, according to figures from the International Organization for Migration.

Between January and the end of July, 602,759 displaced Syrians returned to their homes, many of them citing an improved economic and security situation in the areas they had fled from, IOM said in a statement.

A total of 84 percent of those who have returned had taken refuge elsewhere within the war-ravaged country, while the remaining 16 percent returned from neighbouring countries The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
, Leb, Jordan and Iraq.

More than a quarter of returnees said they did so to protect their assets and properties, while nearly the same number referred to the improved economic situation in their place of origin, and 11 percent cited the improved security situation there.

Fourteen percent meanwhile pointed to the worsening economic situation in their place of refuge, IOM said.

But while most of the returns had been spontaneous, it warned they were "not necessarily voluntary, safe or sustainable," it said.

Aleppo Governorate, the scene of the harshest battles of Syria's bloody six-year war, had received 67 percent of all returnees so far this year, IOM said.

And within the governorate, Aleppo city, which was recaptured by the Syrian army last December after a suffocating five-month siege, has received most returnees, it said.

Many of those returning meanwhile must struggle to get bare necessities, with only 41 percent having access to clean water and 39 percent with access to health services.

This "is dangerously low as the country's infrastructure has been extremely damaged by the conflict," IOM said.

And even as returns from within Syria especially appear to be on the rise, the agency warned that the war-torn country is still seeing high rates of fresh displacement.

"From January to July 2017, an estimated 808,661 people were displaced, many for the second or third time, and over six million in total currently remain displaced within the country," it said.

More than 330,000 people have been killed in Syria since the conflict erupted in March 2011 with anti-government protests.

"Joint troops killed on Sunday four IS members, including a big shot as festivities occurred in al-Bou Bakr village, at the outskirts of al-Azeem town, north of Diyala," Maj.Gen. Mazhar al-Azzawi, commander of Dijla Operations, told Alghad Press.

The command, according to Azzawi, "will continue its operations in Diyala, especially the border regions, to eradicate the group’s cells there."

Moreover, Azzawi announced arresting a dangerous IS member in al-Nada basin, east of Diyala.

"Security troops transferred the arrested member to detention centers to take legal measures," Azzawi said.

Islamic State in Diyala finance cells with ransoms: MP

in Diyala are relying on kidnappings of civilians and outcoming ransoms to finance their fighters, an Iraqi parliament member has said.

Furat al-Tamimi, an MP from Diyala, was quoted by Alghad Press saying that IS has recently escalated kidnappings of civilians to fund its cells both inside and outside the province.

Captives’ relatives are obliged to transfer ransoms through banking offices to other provinces, the MP said

"ISIS (Islamic State) has recently kidnapped several people from Qurra Tabba and Hamreen Basin, killing some and setting others free in return for huge sums from their relatives," he stated.

Tamimi pointed out to "confirmed information " that some of the areas to which the ransoms were remitted were in the northern provinces in Kurdistan Region. He urged security authorities and intelligence services to further scrutinize money transfer offices to counter what he described as "money laundering" activities by "outlawed groups".

According to Alghad Press, a local source in Diyala was quoted earlier on Monday saying IS had released two captives, after more than one month since their kidnapping, in return for USD15.000.

IS bandidos gunnies have reportedly lost most of their funding resources since U.S.-backed Iraqi forces launched offensives targeting holy warriors-held havens in October.

Reports have talked about illegal means through which the bandidos gunnies funded their operations in Iraq, including the confiscation of civilian properties, antiquities traffick, organs trade and illegal sale of petroleum.

Iranian UAV faces off, again, with US forces in the Gulf
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] An Iranian Unmanned Aerial Vehicle has conducted, yet again, an unsafe maneuver with US forces in the Arabian Gulf, according to a US Naval Central Command front man.

The incident on Sunday involved an Iranian QOM-1/Sadegh-1 UAV conducting an unsafe and unprofessional approach towards the USS Nimitz during fixed wing flight operations.

"Despite repeated radio calls to establish communications and remain clear, the QOM-1’s controlling station was unresponsive and the UAV did not use any aircraft navigation lights while it made several passes in close proximity to Nimitz and its escort ships during active flight operations, coming within 1,000 feet of U.S. aircraft," said Lt. Ian McConnaughey, a NAVCENT front man in an emailed statement from Bahrain.

"The failure of the Iranian UAV to utilize standard, internationally-mandated navigation lights during a night time approach of a U.S. aircraft carrier engaged in flight operations created a dangerous situation with the potential for collision and is not in keeping with international maritime customs and laws," he added.

The incident comes only one week after another unsafe approach was conducted by another Iranian UAV.

An F/A-18E Super Hornet assigned to the USS Nimitz had an interaction with the Iranian UAV on August 8 as the aircraft was in a holding pattern preparing to land on the aircraft carrier, the US Navy said last week.

The UAV came in to a collision course with the fighterjet that managed to evade it.

This is the 14th unsafe interaction between US and Iranian maritime forces since January 2017.

Court finds defrauding ISIS a crime in Germany
Sit down before reading this, dear Reader, and swallow any fluids.
[Ynet] A German court sentences a Syrian refugee to two years in prison for attempting to trick ISIS operatives into transferring him 180,000 euro under the pretense of carrying out attacks in Germany.

A German court has found a Syrian refugee guilty of attempting to defraud ISIS, a court spokeswoman said on Monday, granting legal protection to a group viewed as turbans by the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
A judge in the district court in the southwestern city of Saarbruecken sentenced the 39-year old hairdresser from Damascus to two years in prison for trying to get ISIS operatives to transfer him up to 180,000 euro ($212,400.00).

The judge ruled that the man used the false pretence that he would carry out attacks in Germany for ISIS using explosives. The money was never transferred to the man.

The court rejected the prosecution's argument that the man was guilty of the more serious crime of planning to carry out attacks on behalf of the murderous Moslem organization.

Both parties have appealed the ruling to the Federal Supreme Court, the court spokeswoman said.

The Syrian refugee was named only as Hasan A. due to German privacy laws.
The Daily Mail adds:
The man Hasan A contacted was located in ISIS' de-facto capital of Raqqa, in Syria.

Hasan had entered Germany in December 2014 and applied for asylum in January 2015, obtaining refugee status and a residency permit, prosecutors said in a statement.

More than a million asylum-seekers entered Germany in 2015, sparking a wave of protests amid a resurgent far-right.

In December 2016, Hasan asked an ISIS contact in Syria to send him the money 'so he could purchase vehicles which he could load with explosives and which he wanted to drive into crowds...and blow up in order to kill unknown numbers of people who do not follow the Moslem faith'.

According to messages found on his phone, the man said each vehicle would be re-painted and packed with 400-500 kilogrammes (880-1,100 pounds) of explosives at a cost of 22,500 euros each, prosecutors said.

#10  Duckduckgo is not as good as google. It can't be. These days good web design means optimizing for Google. That said, DDG is pretty good (better than bing, unless you are looking for p0rn).

I noticed years ago that global warming articles I recalled reading could not be found using Google. Started saving them, and have done some tests. If I use the exact article name I can find it on Google. If not, it doesn't appear at all, no matter what I search for -- at least on the first 20 or so pages of search results I was willing to look at. There is no doubt in my mind that Google buries news it doesn't like. The problem is that DDG does not reproduce these articles either.

#15  Been running Brave for well over a year - couldn't stand the thought of Edge. Early on there were some issues as it was brand new but it's been very stable for some time now. Flash and Google Widevine are off as defaults though you can turn them on if you want.It is fast because you can turn off ads and trackers - has a feature where you can see the number of ads and trackers blocked - e.g., zero for rantburg; 12 ads and 1 fingerprinting tracker blocked for Instapundit.

#16  I noticed years ago that global warming articles I recalled reading could not be found using Google.

Try looking up topics like "coal mines" or "steel mills" or "electricity generation". You'll end up with results that will have environmentalist, labor, and other leftist groups ending up with erections lasting longer than four hours.

MSM Loses Interest in Houston Mosque Arson After Muslim Charged
[Breitbart] The Muslim charged with setting fire to his own mosque turned over his passport and the judge set his bond at $150,000 on Monday. He remains in jail.

True to a prediction by Breitbart News’ John Nolte, once authorities revealed the identity of the alleged arsonist as not a white racist inspired by Donald Trump but a Muslim, the mainstream media lost interest in the story.

Moore did not appear in court but was represented by his attorney Edward M. Chernoff. His arraignment where charges will be formally read against him has been reset upon the request of his lawyer. He will have an opportunity to enter a plea of guilty or not guilty at that time.

Gary Nathaniel Moore has been charged with arson in a place of worship, a first degree felony.

As reported by Breitbart Texas, the charging instrument stated that Moore started a fire by igniting materials at a place of worship on Christmas Day. The complaint charges that he used and exhibited a deadly weapon, namely a fire, to commit the felony offense of arson at the Savoy Masjid Mosque in Houston.

Moore told a Houston fire investigator that he has been a member of the mosque for five years, and comes to the mosque to pray five times a day, seven days a week, as reported by Breitbart Texas.

Breitbart News reported shortly after Moore’s arrest that the media immediately exploited the conflagration at the mosque to place the blame for the fire on Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump. The theory quickly went up in smoke upon the devout Muslim’s arrest.

CBS, CNN, and NBC media outlets all published articles reporting the arson should be investigated because of the “recent spike in hate incidents targeting mosques nationwide.”

Breitbart News reported that a CBS News article said that advocacy groups believed “that there has been a spike in anti-Muslim incidents across the United States in recent weeks that can be linked to the mass shooting in California and the inflammatory rhetoric of Donald Trump and other presidential candidates. And they say that Muslims are fearful the backlash could lead to further harassment and violence.”

Salon.com also refused to change an extremely misleading headline that blamed the fire on “anti-Muslim violence,” even after the identity of the Muslim suspect became known, as reported by Breitbart News.

The prediction by Breitbart News’ John Nolte that “[n]ow that a devout Muslim has been charged, the DC Media will forget all about the incident” has become true. With the exception of the hometown paper, the Houston Chronicle, and a few other Texas media outlets, Moore’s latest court appearance has gone largely unreported.

Moore is scheduled to be back in court on January 20.

Infamous Abu Sayyaf sub-leader killed
[CNN] A notorious Abu Sayyaf sub-leader named Salvador "Badong" Muktadil was killed in a gunbattle with government forces in Sulu, the Philippine military announced on Sunday. His death was the outcome of a counter-operation by Joint Task Force Sulu, conducted from aboard navy vessels in Silangkan, Parang, Sulu.

Lieutenant General Carlito Galvez said, "His neutralization was a result of the maximized intelligence operations of our troops and the cooperation and support of the local leaders and folks."

Joint Task Force Sulu commander Cirilito Sobejana said Muktadil was "well-experienced in operating speedboats... as getaway vehicles in executing kidnapping [ploys]. His death rendered high seas kidnappings, particularly in Tawi-Tawi and Sabah, suppressed."

Muktadil was involved in the various abductions between Sabah and Tawi-tawi, including those of Mayor Gemma Adana of Naga, Zamboanga Sibugay; Taiwanese tourist Evelyn Chang; and Yahong Lim, the daughter of a Chinese businesswoman. Apart from kidnappings, Muktadil also holds an arrest warrant for serious illegal detention and nine counts of murder.

"His neutralization, together with the others [who] have been killed in the fighting... the other week, about seven of them, is an additional accomplishment for Western Mindanao Command in degrading the activity of ASG to carry out more abductions," military spokesman Restituto Padilla said on Monday.

Padilla added that there were also reported attempts by the Abu Sayyaf to kidnap locals and "low return targets," which include the poor and vulnerable who cannot pay large ransoms.

"It's an indication that they are in dire straits because they just want to generate enough funds to support themselves," he said.

Far-right supporter arrested for planning bomb in Oklahoma City
Another idiot hands himself over to the FBI, but this one is not a jihadi.
[IsraelTimes] Jerry Varnell sought to carry out copy-cat attack to Timothy McVeigh’s 1995 blast which killed 168 people

US officials announced Monday the arrest of a man who sought to detonate a bomb in Oklahoma City, reminiscent of the deadly 1995 bombing by anti-government bad boy Timothy McVeigh in the same city.

Jerry Varnell, 23, was incarcerated
Don't shoot, coppers! I'm comin' out!
Saturday, after attempting to trigger what he thought was an ammonium nitrate fertilizer bomb -- like McVeigh’s -- outside a BancFirst branch in the center of the city, according to a criminal complaint filed in Oklahoma district court.

Varnell told an undercover FBI agent and a cooperating source that he had wanted to attack the government, with his initial target the Federal Reserve in Washington, eight blocks from the White House.

Varnell told the undercover agent that, unlike McVeigh, he did not want to kill a lot of people with his bombing, but to “cripple the government,” according to the complaint.
He also considered attacking data centers at Facebook and the Internal Revenue Service, before settling on the bank in Oklahoma City, 130 miles (210 kilometers) east of his home in Sayre, Oklahoma.

"I think I’m going to go with what the okc bomber used," Varnell allegedly told the FBI’s source in an encrypted message.

"What happened in Oklahoma City was not an attack on America, it was retaliation," he later said. "The time for revolution is now."

McVeigh killed 168 people when he went kaboom! a fertilizer bomb outside a federal building in Oklahoma City on April 19, 1995. McVeigh was arrested soon afterward, imprisoned, and, in 2001, executed for the crime.

Varnell’s arrest was announced two days after white supremacist and extreme-right anti-government groups clashed with opponents in Charlottesville, Virginia. One woman was killed when an bad boy rammed his car into a crowd of counter-protesters, and two coppers died in a helicopter crash.

Varnell told Sherlocks he supported the far-right "Three Percenters" (III%ers) anti-government movement and wanted to form his own armed militia.

But he told the undercover agent that, unlike McVeigh, he did not want to kill a lot of people with his bombing, but to "cripple the government," according to the complaint.

Varnell also told the agent he wanted a way to communicate his message about the bombing to prevent other groups like Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
from claiming responsibility.

According to the complaint, Varnell and the FBI agent built the bomb in a van, with "inert" materials including blasting caps and dynamite that were all supplied by the agent.

The inert bomb was parked outside the bank and Varnell was immediately arrested early Saturday morning, after he tried to used a cellphone to set it off.
Ynet adds:
Varnell is charged with attempting to use explosives to destroy a building in interstate commerce and faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted.

A police brass hat on condition of anonymity said the use of fake number plate had been a normal practice regarding the protocol vehicles of the VVIPs motorcades owing to security reasons.
The team, headed by Additional IG Abu Bakar Khuda Bakhsh, had inspected the accident’s spot, besides recording the statements of eyewitnesses, heirs of the dear departed boy and local police officials and left Lalamusa the same day.

Iraq
More Mosul Moslem Mayhem

Three persons, including policeman, killed, injured in Mosul

Mosul (IraqiNews.com) Three civilians were killed and injured in different areas in Mosul city, security sources were quoted saying on Monday.

Speaking to Shafaq News, the sources said unknown gunmen killed a civilian as shooting occurred in abu Jarbou’a village in Tal Afar, west of Mosul.

Moreover, the forensic medicine department received body of a Federal Police personnel who was killed in shooting between Rajm Hadid and al-Tanak districts, in western Mosul.

A civilian was injured in a blast caused by Islamic State war remnants near Owaynat village, northwest of Mosul.

Last week, Iraqi Civil Defense forces official was quoted saying that 3000 corpses are still held under the rubble in the Old City. 839 bodies were recovered from different Mosul areas in three days.

Three Islamic State underground tunnels discovered northwest of Mosul

Mosul (IraqiNews.com) Iraqi army forces on Monday discovered three underground tunnels dug by Islamic State militants in northwest Mosul as troops continue to comb areas recaptured from the militant group.

A military source told Kurdish-owned BasNews website that Iraqi army forces, acting upon information obtained from local residents, found three underground tunnels belonging to IS in Qairawan, a region which pro-government paramilitary forces recaptured in June.

Lit. Col. Sallam al-Khaffaf told the website that the tunnels contained communication kits, a huge amount of cell phones militants had confiscated from civilians and lists with names of civilians executed by the group.

Islamic State had relied on tunnels both to escape from, and attack, Iraqi security forces during more than eight months of operations to retake areas held by the militants in Nineveh province which began in October 2016.

Since the Iraqi government declared early July the recapture of Mosul, Islamic State’s former capital in Iraq, police forces have been combing the western side of the city for sleeper militant cells and munition hiding places. The militants have also launched a few sporadic attacks against troops and civilians since the declaration.

The Iraqi government intends to aim at other Islamic State havens in Anbar, Kirkuk and Salahuddin once it is done with retaking Tal Afar, Islamic State’s last stronghold in Nineveh which the Defense Ministry had completed preparations for invading. The Defense Ministry said recently it was waiting for orders to launch operations for the enclave. So far, operations by pro-government militias, the Popular Mobilization, have isolated the town from Mosul and from the Syrian borders, and retook several surrounding villages.

Senior IS military leader arrested in Mosul

Mosul (IraqiNews.com) A senior Islamic State military commander was arrested in Mosul, Iraq’s military intelligence service said on Monday as security forces continue to hunt for remnant militants in hiding at the recaptured city.

The service said the arrested militant was Islamic State’s military area commander for eastern Mosul, but gave no details yet of his identity. Ten other subordinate members were also arrested with him.

Yemeni executed for child rape and murder
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Yemenis gathered on Monday in the Houthi-held capital to witness execution of a 22-year-old man named Hussein al-Saket, convicted of raping and killing a four-year-old girl.

According to the AFP news agency, quoting Rajeh Ezzedine, a judge who attended the execution, Saket was found guilty of abducting, raping and murdering the girl.

Ali Ayedh, the victim's uncle, said Saket "took part in the search for the girl before being unmasked" during the police investigation.

It was the second such public execution in weeks.

He said his public execution would act as a "deterrent for criminals."

Saket was placed face down on Tahrir square in Sanaa, which the Houthi

Four people have been nabbed
Drop the heater, Studs, or you're hist'try!
on suspicion of planning terror attacks in Moscow, allegedly led by two Russian-born ISIS-fighters.

The group's plans involved two jacket wallah attacks - one on public transport and one in a shop, the Federal Security Service
... the successor to the KGB...
(FSB) said today.

Two of the four arrested men were supposed to blow themselves up on Moscow's transit system and in a shop, the FSB said in a statement.

As part of the arrests, officials also discovered a lab outside Moscow where improvised bombs were made.

The intelligence agency said the attacks were directed by two senior Death Eaters who are fighting for ISIS in Syria, and hail from 'the former Soviet Union'.

The suspects arrested outside Moscow were not identified, but the FSB said one of them is a Russian national and three others are from Central Asia.
The suspects may not have been identified, but the Daily Mail names the subjects of two of the photos attached to the story as Khodzhiev Davlatyor and Siyovushi Davronzoda.
Their plans echo that of a Russian citizen from the former Soviet state Kyrgyzstan, Akbarzhon Jalilov, who detonated a bomb inside a St Petersburg metro train in April, killing 15 people.

Militant linked to church bombings dies during police raid: Interior ministry
[AlAhram] A bad boy linked to a series of church bombings in Egypt died during a police raid in Upper Egypt on Sunday, according to an interior ministry statement.

The bad boy killed himself by detonating a suicide belt, having already shot at police in order to evade arrest, the ministry said.

The incident occurred late on Sunday in the southern governorate of Qena. There were no casulaties among police personnel, according to the statement.

The bad boy was allegedly part of a cell behind a series of terrorist attacks on Coptic churches in 2016 and 2107. The attacks in Cairo, Alexandria and Tanta killed dozens of people, mainly Coptic Christians.

The bad boy group ISIS claimed responsiblity for the bombings.

The same Islamist group is believed to have been behind an attack on Coptic pilgrims in Minya this year.

In May, Egyptian authorities reported the capture of several bully boyz who confessed to involvement in the church bombings.

Egypt has been under a state of emergency since the Palm Sunday bombings in Alexandria and Tanta on 9 April.

China-Japan-Koreas
North Korea's Missile Success Is Linked to Ukrainian Plant, Investigators Say
[NYT] North Korea’s success in testing an intercontinental ballistic missile that appears able to reach the United States was made possible by black-market purchases of powerful rocket engines probably from a Ukrainian factory with historical ties to Russia’s missile program, according to an expert analysis being published Monday and classified assessments by American intelligence agencies.

The studies may solve the mystery of how North Korea began succeeding so suddenly after a string of fiery missile failures, some of which may have been caused by American sabotage of its supply chains and cyberattacks on its launches. After those failures, the North changed designs and suppliers in the past two years, according to a new study by Michael Elleman, a missile expert at the International Institute for Strategic Studies.

Such a degree of aid to North Korea from afar would be notable because President Trump has singled out only China as the North’s main source of economic and technological support. He has never blamed Ukraine or Russia, though his secretary of state, Rex W. Tillerson, made an oblique reference to both China and Russia as the nation’s "principal economic enablers" after the North’s most recent ICBM launch last month.

Analysts who studied photographs of the North’s leader, Kim Jong-un, inspecting the new rocket motors concluded that they derive from designs that once powered the Soviet Union’s missile fleet. The engines were so powerful that a single missile could hurl 10 thermonuclear warheads between continents.

Those engines were linked to only a few former Soviet sites. Government investigators and experts have focused their inquiries on a missile factory in Dnipro, Ukraine, on the edge of the territory where Russia is fighting a low-level war to break off part of Ukraine. During the Cold War, the factory made the deadliest missiles in the Soviet arsenal, including the giant SS-18. It remained one of Russia’s primary producers of missiles even after Ukraine gained independence.

#3  1. The Houthis (or rather, renegade elements of the Yemen Army loyal to the deposed president) are using Russian-design missiles.

2. The Iranians are involved with the Houthi elements in Yemen.

3. The Iranians also have ties with North Korea, both in the NorKs training Iranian forces and cooperation on their respective nuclear programs.

4. The Iranians are flush with funds, both from Euros eager for profit(after lowered sanctions) and $400 million on pallets along with a note saying "With Love from Barry and Valarie".

5. The Ukranians aren't exactly the least corrupt people on the planet and they have a renowned fondness for cash.

#5  Soo..

Does that mean the Russians are selling to the NorKs, or to the Iranians? Or the Chinese?

Or

It was mentioned in that ridiculously long message thread of another production site, albeit slower and lower production numbers. What's to stop the design from being 'quietly' produced or (more likely) assembled elsewhere, possibly in smaller numbers?

#6  If North Korea has a couple of large Haas's, a BOM stock list, and prints, they could probably make the rocket engines.

For example,

Just because Pratt and Whitney _charges_ 38 million for an RL-10 engine doesn't mean it was that hard to build back in the 1990's when they charged a lot less for the four that went into the DC-X. (And those were specially modified with a different nozzle design to work with atmospheric backpressure, and therefore essentially custom engines with RL-10 turbomachinery).
