Comey Drafted Statement Clearing Hillary Before Interviewing Key Witnesses
[Daily Caller] As FBI director last year, James Comey began writing drafts of a statement exonerating Hillary Clinton, even before all witnesses in the investigation -- including Clinton herself -- had been interviewed.

The Senate Judiciary Committee obtained the Comey memos as part of its investigation into his firing by President Trump, which occurred on May 9.

The revelation that Comey had begun drafting memos of his exoneration statement comes from transcripts of interviews given last fall by two FBI officials.

James Rybicki, Comey’s chief of staff, and Trisha Anderson, the principal deputy general counsel of national security and cyberlaw at the FBI, gave the interviews as part of an investigation conducted by the Office of Special Counsel into the FBI’s handling of the Clinton email investigation.

In a July 5, 2016, press conference, Comey said that he would not be recommending charges against Clinton for mishandling classified information despite her use of a private email server as secretary of state.
Bill Clinton got the pre-brief the week before at Sky Harbor.
While the transcripts of those interviews are heavily redacted, they indicate that Comey started working on an announcement clearing Clinton in April or May of last year, before the FBI interviewed 17 witnesses in the case, including Clinton and some of her top aides.

Clinton was interviewed for several hours on July 2, just three days before Comey’s announcement.

In a letter to the FBI, Iowa Sen. Chuck Grassley and South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham also noted that Comey’s draft was prepared even before two Clinton aides, Cheryl Mills and Heather Samuelson, had reached what the two Republicans called a "highly unusual" immunity deal with the Justice Department.

The limited immunity deal prohibited investigators and prosecutors from asking about conversations between the two Clinton aides and Platte River Networks, a Denver-based tech firm that maintained Clinton’s server after she left the State Department.

Grassley and Graham questioned whether Comey could have conducted a complete and impartial investigation if he had already made a conclusion about the outcome before all of the information in the case had been collected.

"Conclusion first, fact-gathering second -- that’s no way to run an investigation," Grassley and South Graham wrote the FBI. "The FBI should be held to a higher standard than that, especially in a matter of such great public interest and controversy."

"The outcome of an investigation should not be prejudged while FBI agents are still hard at work trying to gather the facts," they added.

The Sky Harbor airport meeting btwn Clinton and Lynch took place on Monday, 27 June 2016. Comey began work on his draft memo in April or May. Appears the decision had already been made. No sense having a meeting if there's nothing to report.

SPLC Moves Millions To Offshore Accounts
The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), a liberal, Alabama-based 501(c)(3) tax-exempt charitable organization that has gained prominence on the left for its "hate group" designations, pushes millions of dollars to offshore entities as part of its business dealings, records show.

Additionally, the nonprofit pays lucrative six-figure salaries to its top directors and key employees while spending little on legal services despite its stated intent of "fighting hate and bigotry" using litigation, education, and other forms of advocacy.

The Southern Poverty Law Center is perhaps best known for its "hate map," a collection of organizations the nonprofit deems "domestic hate groups" that lists mainstream conservative organizations alongside racist groups such as the Ku Klux Klan and is often referenced in the media. A gunman opened fire at the Washington, D.C., offices of the conservative Family Research Council in 2012 after seeing it listed as an "anti-gay" group on SPLC's website.

The SPLC has turned into a fundraising powerhouse, recording more than $50 million in contributions and $328 million in net assets on its 2015 Form 990, the most recently available tax form from the nonprofit. SPLC's Form 990-T, its business income tax return, from the same year shows that they have "financial interests" in the Cayman Islands, British Virgin Islands, and Bermuda. No information is available beyond the acknowledgment of the interests at the bottom of the form.

It's pretty clear to me that the SPLC does not strictly adhere to the 501(c)(3) guidelines as outlined by the IRS. Go and check out their 2015 Federal Form 990 and see, for example, how much in 'charity' this 'charity' gives back to the community, as that is one of the criteria for being granted exempt tax status. Line 13 of the first page of the 990 is fucking ZERO for both years; they simply do not give out any money. I have no problem with the IRS investigating and, when appropriate, revoking 501(c)(3) statuses and handing these cocksuckers a massive tax bill. To the best of my knowledge, the IRS has never done this as part of their duties, and it's well past time that it starts. Bye-bye, SPLC.

#4  sadly, once an org gets certified for 501(c)(1), t takes a pretty egregious issue to have that status revoked

you may be correct that the activities of the employees are not eligible under the education or advocacy but that is not something you say without some sort of audit - of course the auditors who do the routine audits tend to only understand numbers and also may be friends of friends of the 501 org employees

you could also argue that splc is partisan but that is also determined by audit

I don't see any requirement in the statute 26USC501(c) for line 13 of 990 to be a certain percentage of expenses

White Men In Kansas City Have Been Shot Dead By Possibly Racially Motivated Serial Killer
[Daily Caller] A 22-year-old black man in Kansas City who once said he wanted to "kill all white people" has been charged with murdering two middle-aged white men and is suspected of killing three more.

Fredrick Demond Scott was charged Tuesday in the murders of Steven Gibbons and John Palmer.

Gibbons, a 57-year-old Kansas City man, was found dead Aug. 14 after being shot in the back just after getting off of a city bus. Video footage showed an unidentified black man also exiting the bus and following Gibbons just before he was shot.

Evidence found at the scene of that murder led police to Scott, a former Burger King employee who has had a few run-ins with the law in the past.

Police were able to match DNA from a bottle found at the scene of Gibbons’ death to a cigarette Scott discarded outside of a Kansas City gas station. DNA was also found on a t-shirt left at the scene of the Aug. 19, 2016 murder of Palmer.

Investigators also suspect Scott in three other killings -- David Lenox on Feb. 27, Timothy Rice on April 4, and Mike Darby on May 18.

All of the men are white males between the ages of 54 and 67.

Britain
Britain ‘is home to 35,000 radicals – 3,000 of who are worrying MI5', European anti-terror chief warns
[SUN] EU counter-terrorism co-ordinator Gilles de Kerchove singled out the UK as having more radicalised muslims than any other country in Europe.

Mr de Kerchove also warned Islamic state will attempt a cyberattack on nuclear power stations or air traffic control systems within five years - possibly by paying Russian hackers to break into vital computer systems.

The official, who is in regular contact with security services, terrorism experts and governments around Europe, said: "The United Kingdom has identified 20,000 to 35,000 radicals. Of these, 3,000 are worrying for MI5, and of those 500 are under constant and special attention."

"I wouldn’t like to put a concrete figure on it, but (in Europe) tens of thousands, more than 50,000."

Mr de Kerchove, who has been in his position since 2007, was speaking in an interview with Spain’s El Mundo newspaper.

He warned European countries will suffer further attacks inspired by ISIS - and said greater measures must be taken to prevent them.

Asked about the 12-man cell who murdered 16 and injured more than 100 in attacks in Barcelona and Cambrils on August 17 and 18, he said: "We will suffer more attacks. Most, except for Brussels and Paris, were not directed from Raqqa, but they were inspired there. And later Islamic State claims responsibility."

Arabia
Hajj begins today - Saudis and Iran in a dispute
More than 1.7 million Muslims from around the world have arrived in Saudi Arabia for the start of the annual hajj pilgrimage this week. Once in Mecca -- the site of Islam's holiest place of worship-- they will be reminded that the ruling Al Saud family is the only custodian of this place.

Large portraits of the king and the country's founder hang in hotel lobbies across the city. A massive clock tower bearing the name of King Salman's predecessor flashes fluorescent green lights at worshippers below. A large new wing of the Grand Mosque in Mecca is named after a former Saudi king, and one of the mosque's entrances is named after another... Saudi Arabia uses its oversight of the hajj to bolster its standing in the Muslim world -- and to spite its foes, from Iran and Syria to Qatar. Its archrival, the Shiite power Iran, has in turn tried to utilize the hajj to undermine the kingdom...

Ahead of this year's hajj, Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei essentially called on pilgrims to hold protests...

"Where else, better than Mecca, Medina ... can Muslims go to express their concerns regarding Al-Aqsa and Palestine?" Khamenei said, referring to one of Islam's holiest and most contentious sites in Jerusalem.

Senior Saudi clerics were quick to respond, saying the pilgrimage should not be exploited and reminding worshippers that the ultimate goal of the hajj is "to spend all their time and effort in worshipping Almighty Allah."

Rule of law
A US judge on Wednesday halted parts of a Texas law intended to aid federal immigration enforcement by punishing so-called "sanctuary cities" two days before it was to have taken effect.

Chief US District Judge Orlando Garcia in San Antonio's federal court found the Texas measure was unlikely to withstand constitutional scrutiny.

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
Russia Remains the Only Country to Possess Armored Vehicle Airdropped with Crew and Troops Aboard
This year, 150 BMD-4M airborne infantry fighting vehicles and their BTR-MDM trooper carrier models will enter service with the Russian Airborne Forces. In the future all air assault divisions will be armed with BMD-4Ms.

The BMD-4M is a new generation amphibious infantry fighting vehicle (IFV), not a modernized variant of the older BMD-3. It is the only IFV which can be dropped from an airplane using a parachute platform. The vehicle can be paradropped with all the crew inside, thus saving time for the assembly after landing. Launched from an aircraft, it can reach the assigned targets in a matter of minutes at a speed of up to 45 mph, opening fire from a range of weapons. The BMD-4M is able to cover over 300 miles without refueling.

The Il-76 transport aircraft can carry two BMD-4Ms. Once landed, less than three minutes are required to start the vehicle, manage the positions and arm all weapons.

The vehicle can also drive through the water. The BMD-4M boasts the capability of fording water sources and changing tactical approaches on-the-fly. On water it is propelled by two waterjets. The vehicle can traverse water obstacles without any special preparation. The BMD-4M can develop a maximum speed of 70 km/h on roads and 10 km/h afloat.

The vehicle has a length of 6m, width of 3.15m and height of 2.7m. The combat weight: 13.5t. It has a cruising range of 500km on highways. The ground clearance ranges from 130mm to 530mm. The BMD-4M is able to negotiate gradients of up to 35 degrees and maintain fire whilst in motion by traversing the turret and keeping the target in its sights. The BMD-4M has a crew of three: a vehicle commander, a gunner, and a driver. It can carry up to five troops.

President Trump's Reassuring Hurricane Response
[WSJ] President Trump visited Texas Tuesday to assess the damage from Hurricane Harvey and show concern for its victims. So far, his administration is largely getting praise for effective handling of the crisis. Washington’s disaster authorities appear to be in sync with the state on roles and responsibilities; the Federal Emergency Management Agency and its leader, Brock Long, deployed resources as Harvey approached; and the government response as a whole appears well coordinated.

"I give FEMA a grade of A-plus, all the way from the president down," Texas Gov. Greg Abbott told "Fox News Sunday." Yes, Mr. Abbott is a fellow Republican, but he is also interested in protecting Texas and would not have said "A-plus" if the state weren’t getting what it needed. That assessment is backed up by Rear Adm. W. Craig Vanderwagen, a former career emergency manager who is plugged into the Harvey effort. "Early read," he told me in an email, "is that Executive Branch is performing well under this President."

Two reasons suggest themselves for the apparent success: personnel and preparation. Mr. Trump has surrounded himself with leaders experienced in this area. John Kelly, the president’s chief of staff, is fresh off his stint as the secretary of homeland security. He brought to the White House his own deputy, Kirstjen Nielsen, a veteran of George W. Bush’s Homeland Security Council.

Tom Bossert, another Bush alumnus now advising Mr. Trump on homeland security, has acquitted himself well on television, projecting calm and expertise as he discusses the hurricane response. It may be premature to conclude that Mr. Kelly has succeeded in bringing order to the Oval Office, but Harvey has demonstrated a reassuring ability to focus on a disaster when needed.

Beyond the White House, Mr. Trump still lags behind his predecessors in filling political appointments, but he appears to have prioritized the right ones. The president has made nominations for about half the slots at the Department of Homeland Security, more than at most departments. Some nominees, such as Mr. Long’s two deputies at FEMA, await Senate confirmation hearings. Mr. Long is an experienced hand, having previously served as Alabama’s head of emergency management. He has been a reassuring and take-charge presence throughout the Harvey response.

Mr. Long began preparing for the next disaster the day he was sworn in, when he presided over a cabinet-wide tabletop exercise on emergency management. Frank Cilluffo, a homeland security aide in the Bush administration, says this showed the White House was taking disaster readiness seriously. "Training is everything here," he told me. "You want to make mistakes on the practice field, not in the actual event." Then in early August, weeks before Harvey showed up on the radar, Mr. Long hosted the president and other cabinet officials at FEMA for a briefing on the coming hurricane season.

Thus far, the most controversial part of the president’s hurricane response has been communications. On the positive side of the ledger, Mr. Trump has used his vast Twitter following both to provide useful information and to convey that the White House is actively monitoring events. On Tuesday he retweeted an urgent alert from Brazoria County saying that a levee at Columbia Lakes had been breached and residents needed to get out immediately.

Mr. Trump’s tweets about the storm have been informative and responsible, with a tone appropriate to the human tragedy. To the extent he has been criticized, it has been mostly for tweeting on unrelated topics, such as his pardoning of former Sheriff Joe Arpaio and the "great" new book by Sheriff David Clarke. Although it isn’t realistic to expect the White House to eschew all other subjects during a crisis, perhaps the president could avoid tweeting about unessential matters until the storm passes.

Outside Twitter, the administration has relied on experts like Messrs. Long and Bossert to reassure the public, which seems an appropriate strategy. Message discipline matters. When responding to a disaster, Mr. Cilluffo says, you "can’t have one message here, another message there, and a tweet saying a third thing."

It’s reassuring that the White House understands the importance of relying on trusted messengers during a crisis--especially given the backlash to Mr. Trump’s comments this month after the violence in Charlottesville, Va. During an emergency, the government needs wide cooperation from the public, which may not be possible under any president with credibility problems. Messrs. Long and Bossert have the standing to appeal to Americans across the partisan divide during Harvey and whatever disaster may come next.

Mr. Trump’s handling of the hurricane response thus far is to be commended, but this is no time for complacency. The recovery in Texas will take a long time, and new disasters are always in the offing. The Trump administration would serve Americans well by following its successful approach to this first crisis with a continuing focus on disaster management. Today it’s Harvey. Tomorrow, who knows?

#1  Glad to read the Federal/Trump response is good. It is hard to grasp, the level of rescue and recovery responses that are required at the Federal, State and local levels for a disaster of this magnitude. The number of dead is probably unknown at this time. Estimates for clean-up and re-build are something like $100 billion and growing.

Afghanistan
Pentagon admits thousands more troops are in Afghanistan than previously disclosed
[FOX] The Pentagon acknowledged Wednesday that there are thousands more American troops deployed in Afghanistan than repeatedly disclosed.

The number of troops deployed to Afghanistan is actually closer to 11,000, Defense Department spokeswoman Dana White said at a news conference. The Pentagon previously said there were 8,400 troops in Afghanistan under the Obama administration's troop cap.

On Wednesday, Defense Secretary Jim Mattis ordered a change to how the Pentagon accounts for the number of troops serving in Afghanistan. A similar review to obtain accurate numbers of troops is pending for Iraq and Syria.

The estimated 11,000 soldiers in Afghanistan would not include future adjustments that Mattis may make to follow President Trump’s new strategy in South Asia, Lt. Gen. Kenneth McKenzie, of the Marine Corps, said.

Military officials have long quietly acknowledged there are more troops in Afghanistan than the previous administration’s troop cap permitted. Commanders shuffled troops in and out, but labeled many as “temporary” and used other personnel accounting tactics to keep the public count artificially low.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
2 explosions, black smoke reported at chemical plant outside Houston
[FoxNews] Officials in Harris County early Thursday reported two explosions and black smoke billowing from a flooded chemical plant about 25 miles northeast of Houston.

Fox 26 Houston reported that officials evacuated a 1.5-mile radius around the Arkema Inc. plant in Crosby. The plant lost power Sunday and its backup generators amid Harvey's days-long deluge, leaving it without refrigeration for chemicals that become volatile as the temperature rises.

One deputy was reportedly taken to hospital after inhaling fumes. Nine others drove themselves to hospital as precaution, the report said.

There was "no way to prevent" the explosion, CEO Rich Rowe said earlier Wednesday.

In its most recently available submission from 2014, Arkema said potentially 1.1 million residents could be affected over an area of 23 miles in a worst case, according to information compiled by a nonprofit group and posted on a website hosted by the Houston Chronicle.

But, Arkema added, it was using "multiple layers of preventative and mitigation measures" at the plant, including steps to reduce the amount of substances released, and that made the worst case "very unlikely."

Rowe told Reuters that the company has no way to prevent the explosion because the plant is swamped by six feet of water. The company did not move the chemicals, but told Reuters that it made extensive preparations.

Arkema manufactures organic peroxides, a family of compounds used for making everything from pharmaceuticals to construction materials.

"As the temperature rises, the natural state of these materials will decompose. A white smoke will result, and that will catch fire," Smith said. "So the fire is imminent. The question is when."

The company shut down the Crosby site before Harvey made landfall Friday, but a crew of 11 had stayed behind. That group was removed and residents within 1.5 miles were told to evacuate Tuesday after the plant lost power.

Harris County Fire Marshal spokeswoman Rachel Moreno said the 1.5-mile radius was developed in consultation with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and other subject-matter experts. "It's a concerning situation, yes," Moreno said. "But the facility is surrounded by water right now so we don't anticipate the fire going anywhere."

Daryl Roberts, the company's vice president of manufacturing, technology and regulatory services in the Americas, did not dispute that worst-case scenario but said that assumed all the controls in place failed and strong winds blew directly toward Houston, the nation's fourth-largest city.

"We have not modeled this exact scenario but we are very comfortable with this 1.5-mile radius," Roberts told the AP. He added that it mostly resembled less serious scenarios that would affect a half-mile radius and a few dozen people.

Roberts said the vessels containing the organic peroxide are equipped with controls to slow the release of chemicals. Because of the water, he said, the chemicals will quickly vaporize, reducing the size and scope of the fire.

#10  That's true for the large ones, Deacon. In this case, the utility power delivery, on-site normal power substation and both large emergency generators failed due to flooding.

We try to talk 'critical facilities' in areas prone to tropical storms and/or flooding into raising their emergency systems and generators to at least thirty feet above the average site grade elevation.

Whether the facility does that or not is usually driven by cost. Ultimate cost in doing so would have been cheaper in this particular case as it appears that this facility left their essential systems at grade level. Sorry Raj, but I'm sure it was the bean counters that drove the decision.

Sen. Mike Lee speaks Truth: If we don't get tax reform done, we're DEAD ‐ [VIDEO]
[Right Scoop] Mike Lee was on with Stuart Varney this morning, explaining that if Republicans fail at both repealing Obamacare and tax reform, they are dead:

Lee couldn’t be more right. If they don’t get meaningful tax reform done in the wake of their Obamacare failure, then what good are they?

Trump is set to give a speech this afternoon on tax reform to get the ball rolling. But honestly, after all the disagreement on Obamacare, I don’t have high hopes for the tax reform battle. I fear we will end up with a reform that doesn’t really reform anything.

Prosecutors: Menendez Started Taking Bribes From Wealthy Donor Right After Entering Office
[Free Beacon] Federal prosecutors asserted in a new document filed Wednesday that Democratic Sen. Robert Menendez (NJ.) started taking bribes from a wealthy donor shortly after he entered the Senate in 2006.

Menendez's trial for bribery and corruption is set to begin next week, and Justice Department prosecutors laid out their case against the senator and his alleged co-conspirator, Dr. Salomon Melgen, who has been convicted but not yet sentenced for defrauding millions of dollars from Medicare in a separate case, Politico reported.

"The defendants' bribery scheme began shortly after Menendez's elevation to the Senate in 2006, when Melgen began a pattern of treating Menendez to weekend and weeklong getaways in the Dominican Republic that would continue for the next several years," prosecutors said in the filing.

"For the first four years of the corruption scheme, the all-expense paid trips Melgen provided often included free roundtrip flights on Melgen's private jet for Menendez and his various guests," prosecutors said. "When the doctor's private jet was unavailable, Melgen supplied equally luxurious travel for the senator."

Soetoro White House Hid Intelligence On Iran To Push Through Nuclear Deal
[Free Beacon] The Obama administration likely hid information about Iran illicitly ferrying militants into Syria on commercial aircraft in order to promote the landmark nuclear deal and foster multi-billion dollar business deals with Tehran's state-controlled airline sector, according to lawmakers and other sources familiar with the matter.

The Washington Free Beacon first disclosed last week that congressional leaders are calling for an investigation into Iran for using its state-controlled air carrier, Iran Air, to ferry militant fighters into Syria, where they are taking up arms in defense of embattled President Bashar al-Assad.

Photographs provided to Congress show Iran using Iran Air to ferry these soldiers between 2016 and 2017, in part when the Obama administration removed sanctions on Iran Air and promoted multi-billion dollars sales between the carrier and aircraft manufacturer Boeing, which is seeking to provide Iran Air with a fleet of new planes that many suspect will be used to carry terrorist fighters and weapons into regional hotspots.

This behavior violates international laws governing the nuclear deal and has now led lawmakers and others to accuse the Obama administration of downplaying Iran's illicit activity in order to promote the nuclear deal and ensure Tehran receives a new commercial fleet.

Turkish regime slashes salaries for jihadist comrades in Syria
[AlMasdar] In a remarkable turn of events, Ankara has cut salaries to all Syrian rebel groups that are tied to the so-called ’Syrian National Coalition’.

The falling out is related to the election of Riad Seif, a Kurdish-backed figure who has become the president of the Syrian National Coalition. The Ottoman Turkish regime had backed other candidates with Islamist sympathies.

Following the result earlier this month, the relations between The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
and Ottoman Turkish-backed jihadists in Syria have begun to deteriorate with Ankara reducing pay to its long-standing jihadist allies, citing "bureaucratic reasons".

On August 22, a delegation headed by President Riad Seif met up in Istanbul with representatives of Turkey’s Foreign Affairs Secretary. At the meeting, financial problems of the jihadists, the Riyadh talks and a possible truce under the guarantor ship of Turkey were put on the agenda.

Following the talks, payments to Ottoman Turkish-backed rebel fighters have been cut in half, causing much concern for Islamist commanders in northern Aleppo and Idlib whom have heavily relied upon Ottoman Turkish tax money to fund their myrmidons.

Jihadist infighting takes over the northern Homs de-escalation zone
[AlMasdar] Intense festivities broke-out in the northern countryside of the Homs Governorate on Wednesday, as jihadist rebels from al-Rastan and Talbiseh clashed with one another over accusations of seeking reconciliation with the government.

According to a statement released by jihadist activists, festivities began at several checkpoints between Talbiseh and al-Rastan in northern Homs; this infighting resulted in a number of injuries and the arrest of several people.

At the same time, Syrian Army choppers dropped thousands of fliers over the northern countryside of Homs, encouraging the people in the area to seek reconciliation with the government and to kick out the jihadist rebels of Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham.

The primary opponent to the reconciliation process has been Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham terrorists; they are affiliated with al-Qaeda and refuse any peace terms.

64 die in government, ISIS fighting
BEIRUT: Fierce fighting between Syrian government forces and the Daesh group has killed 64 combatants in Raqqa province over a 24-hour period, a monitoring group said Wednesday.

The clashes come with the army pressing an advance through Raqqa, in northern Syria, toward neighboring Deir Ezzor, the only remaining province of the war-ravaged country still in the hands of Daesh jihadists.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a Britain-based monitor, said the fighting had claimed the lives of 38 jihadists and 26 pro-regime combatants since Tuesday morning.

It takes to 145 the overall death toll in six days of fighting in villages on the banks of the Euphrates River in the east of Raqqa province, near Deir Ezzor.

Daesh said in a statement on Tuesday that its members had killed dozens of regime combatants in “intense fighting lasting hours.”

Observatory director Rami Abdel Rahman told AFP that the regime was fighting to secure a foothold in Raqqa province “in order to advance in Deir Ezzor.”

The jihadists have laid seige to government forces and civilians in the provincial capital of Deir Ezzor since 2015.

Earlier this month, government troops and allied fighters arrived at the outskirts of Madan, the last Daesh-held town in the countryside of eastern Raqqa province before Deir Ezzor.

But Daesh launched a counterattack last week that pushed the regime forces back, and fighting has since continued.

The Syria army operation in the area, backed by air support from ally Russia, is separate from the battle for provincial capital Raqqa city.

The effort to oust Daesh from the city is being led by the Syrian Democratic Forces, a US-backed alliance of Kurdish and Arab fighters.

NASA wants to prevent the Yellowstone super volcano from destroying the US
[FOXNEWS] A super volcano is very different from the common conception of tall cones of rock and ash that occasionally catastrophically erupt.

Instead, it’s a vast space of collapsed crust that can cover hundreds of square kilometers.

Instead, vast quantities of searing magma and clouds of fumes would slowly crawl across the landscape — burying much of the United States under a thick coat of ash and lava.

In the case of Yellowstone, it’s enough to change the climate of the world for several centuries.

An event in Indonesia, about 75,000 years ago, named the Toba catastrophe, pumped some 4000 tons of hydrogen sulphide gas into the atmosphere along with about 2800 cubic kilometres of ejecta. This produced a global volcanic winter that lasted a decade.

Yellowstone isn’t expected to erupt any time soon. It appears to burst roughly once every 700,000 years. The most recent was 640,000 years ago, with other events 1.3 million years ago and 2.1 million years ago.
Well, they've got 60,000 years to figure it. They'll probably come up with something.
This is much more regular than cataclysmic comet impacts.

US reportedly mulling cutting UN funding over settlement blacklist
[IsraelTimes] US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley

is reportedly threatening to cut funding to UN bodies over a document being written up that singles out companies doing business with Israeli settlements.

The so-called settlement blacklist has been called "shameful" by Haley and Israeli officials have railed against its creation.

According to Israel’s Channel 2, one the bodies that may have funding cut is the UN Human Rights Council, which is drawing up the list and has been bashed by US officials for its anti-Israel bias.

Bernie activists implore Vermont Sen. Sanders to consider leading new party
[WASHINGTONTIMES] Grass-roots activists are ramping up pressure on Sen. Bernard Sanders to appear at a town hall meeting next month to discuss launching a new progressive party and severing ties with the Democrats.

Nick Brana, founder of Draft Bernie for a People’s Party, said in an email blast on Wednesday that "progressives across the country are waiting to see if Bernie Sanders

The email comes two weeks after the group sent Mr. Sanders and members of his staff a letter informing him that activists plan to deliver 50,000 signatures to his congressional office on Friday, Sept. 8, asking him to become the face of a new party and to attend a "Draft Bernie Town Hall" event at a three-day "Convergence Conference" that is slated to kickoff that day at American University.

Militia Halts Production at 3 Libya Oil Fields
[AnNahar] Oil production has been suspended for several days at three oil fields in Libya after an armed militia shut off pipelines, the state-owned National Oil Company said Wednesday.

The output of oil, nearly one million barrels per day prior to the stoppage, had fallen by more than 360,000 bpd, NOC said in a statement.

The gang, described as "criminal" by the company, had in the past few days closed off two pipelines to the refinery and port at Zawya from the al-Sharara and al-Hamada oil fields.

It had already blocked production on Saturday at the al-Fil field, also located in the west of the country, said the statement from NOC.

The militia seized the pipelines to protest against the "marginalization" of the region, according to sources in the area.

As a result of its actions, NOC said it had declared force majeure at the three affected oil fields.

The legal measure means that due to unforceable circumstances the company can be exonerated from fulfilling oil contracts.

Libya, which has Africa's largest oil reserves, used to produce about 1.6 million barrels per day before the 2011 armed uprising that toppled and killed dictator Muammar Qadaffy
...a reminder that a single man with an idea can change an entire nation, usually for the worse...
But it has only managed to export a few tankers of crude in recent months, with efforts to revive the industry thwarted by jihadist attacks and political turmoil.

The closure of oil ports has cost the country more than 130 billion dollars since late 2014, according to NOC.

Iraq
More Mosul Moslem Mayhem

7 ISIS troops die in Mosul

Mosul (IraqiNews.com) Seven Islamic State militants were killed while trying to escape from northwestern Mosul, a security source said.

Speaking to Baghdad Today, the source said, “seven Arab IS gunmen, attempted escaping through al-Yaarabiya region, northwest of Mosul.”

“All of them were killed by the Iraqi border guards,” he added.

In Late June, Iraqi troops took over the Old City’s Nuri al-Kabir Mosque, where IS supreme leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi first declared the proclaimed caliphate covering parts of Iraq and Syria. Later on July 10, Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi declared victory over IS militants who had held the second largest Iraqi city since 2014. More than 25000 militants were killed throughout the campaign, which started in October.

Since the city was declared free, security troops continue to comb western Mosul areas for hidden IS cells.

29 ISIS Turbans smoked in Tal Afar

Tal Afar (IraqiNews.com) Iraqi troops killed twenty-nine militants in a military operation to support the army and Federal Police troops advancing in northwest of Tal Afar, the last Islamic State’s enclave in Nineveh, Ikhnews reported.

In press remarks made on Tuesday, Maj.General Imad al-Silawi, a commander in Iraqi army, said troops liberated tens of villages in the mountain areas in west and north of Aiyadhiya region, located 11 kilometers away from Tal Afar.

Earlier on the day, Lt. Gen. Abdul Amir Yarallah, commander of Tal Afar Operations, announced liberation of Qulabash village, indicating ongoing advance in Aiyadhiya, which was invaded on Tuesday, after field commanders said they had taken full control over Tal Afar’s districts.

The War Media Cell announced, earlier on Wednesday, preparations to declare the end of operations in Tal Afar and the approach of the launch of offensives for Hawija, southwest of Kirkuk.

The United Nations says more than 30.000 were displaced as operations launched for the enclave.

"We are not party to any agreements that were made by the Lebanese Hezbollah and ISIS or the (Syrian) regime," Dillon told AP.

Earlier, the coalition bombed a bridge and the road in the convoy's path to prevent it from reaching the area held by IS (also known as ISIS/ISIS) in eastern Syria.

Any strikes "will be in accordance with the law of armed conflict," Dillon said.

Tobruk MP: I brought money from Tripoli to Benghazi hospitals, eastern military officers
[Libya Observer] The member of the Tobruk-based House of Representatives (HoR) Siham Sergiwa said UN envoy to Libya, Ghassan Salame's report on Libya at the Security Council was very interesting as it tackled the suffering of the people more than any previous envoys did, adding that this should urge Libyans to sit together without UN mediation.

"No problem between Haftar and al-Sirraj actually, so why did Gay Paree bring them together? The problem is between Haftar and HoR members who reject the interference of military institution in politics and Haftar's problem with them is that he rejects the political agreement." She explained.

Haftar's self-styled general command denied the words said by Sergiwa that their fighters are being paid by the UN-proposed government's ministry of finance, saying their salaries are paid by the ministry of finance of the Interim Government in east Libya.

With Italy's aid, Libyan UN-proposed government pays militias money to block migrants routes
[Libya Observer] Security officials told The News Agency that Dare Not be Named that under a deal backed by Italia, Libya’s struggling UN-proposed government in Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
has paid militias implicated in trafficking in Sabratha to prevent migrants colonists from crossing the Mediterranean to Europe
aka Islam's Lebensraum....
AP added that the move was clear in the fact two months have seen a sharp drop in crossings, a welcome sign for EU leaders desperate to stem the flow of migrants colonists.

"But the drop also appears to be in large part due to the deals struck with the two most powerful militias in the western Libyan city of Sabratha, the biggest launching point for the mainly African migrants colonists making the dangerous voyage across the Mediterranean. The militias, one known as "Al-Ammu" and the other as Brigade 48, are headed by two brothers from the area’s large al-Dabashi family." AP reported.

It added that at least five security officials and activists based in Sabratha said the bully boyz were known to be behind smuggling of migrants colonists.

The policy has raised an outcry among some in the Libyan security forces and activists dealing with migrants colonists, who warn that it enriches militias, enabling them to buy more weapons and become more powerful. In the country’s chaos, the militias can at any time go back to trafficking or turn against the government, they say.

The Washington Post said Italia worked directly with the militias and Italian officials met the leaders of the militias.

Suddenly, Antifa does equal Nazis
[DONSURBER.BLOGSPOT] How high and mighty the pundits and politicians sounded after Charlottesville. How dare President Trump say many sides were responsible?

But now as the violence from the leftist Antifa
...the armed wing of the Democratic Party...
group escalates and shows what the anti-Trump resistance really is about, my oh my, are they bailing.

Hillary lackey and Democratic Governor Terry McAuliffe of Virginia now says:
“I disavow anyone — we won’t tolerate violence of any kind. You’re entitled to protest. First Amendment certainly protected. As I’ve said after Charlottesville, anyone who came to our state, anyone who committed violence, on any side, will be arrested. […] Everybody’s entitled to do their protest but were not going to accept violence from anybody.”

What happened to the cry of False Equivalence when President Trump said the same thing a couple of weeks ago?

I am guessing the polls show Democrats failed in another attempt to portray President Trump as Hitler.

The equivalence was not false.

It was dead on the money.

For more than a year, Democratic Party operatives have used the threat of violence and even violence to shut down conservative speakers.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Disaster groups charged with exploitation seeking #Harvey funds
[RT] Activists groups seeking funds to help for relief from Hurricane Harvey are coming under fire for alleged exploitation. One such group, the Texas Organizing Project is being singled out for raising funds to benefit labor unions.
This is besides the bad guys with guns.
In a post on social media calling for donations, the Texas Organizing Project stated that all donations “will only be used to organize in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey.”

The statement drew criticism that the group was a front for big labor and the funds would support organizing the efforts of unions such as SEIU 1199, AFL-CIO, and the American Federation of Teachers, and not hurricane victims.

“So you are scamming kind-hearted people out of money making them believe that you are going to help Harvey victims, is that it? Harvey victims need help now with the very basics of life, not political activists making money off their horrible situation! You should be ashamed of yourselves. As a Texan myself, I cannot believe how wrong-minded your solicitation for donations is,” charged one.

Another opined “All donations made here will only be used ‘to organize in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey.’ So none of the money will actually be given to hurricane victims. Good to know.”

A repost of the fund link on Twitter by political activist, Linda Sarsour, generated over 1,000 comments criticizing the goal of the fund.

With one tweet “Grifting money away from hurricane victims is about as low as someone can get.”

Another opined “@Twitter @TwitterSupport these relief funds are being funneled towards a political PAC and not towards victims .... do something pls”

Others took to Twitter to blast the relief efforts. Sarsour then tweeted that the ‘alt-right’ must have sent out an email blast.

Later she tweeted a list of organizations of where to send donations.

Calls to the Texas Organizing Project to ask about the fund and its beneficiaries as well as to SEIU 1199 were not returned.

#9  Mennonite, Southern Baptist Disaster Services came out here. SA has brought us sandwiches to endurance fires. Don't know much about SP, but that is good company.

Red Cross is all show no flow. They get the prime booth locations and plenty of media. Seem to have earned themselves a bit of a reputation.

About donating to SA, I was told the most effective way to help is to donate to the local chapter rather than the umbrella - nothing wrong with the umbrella, just faster more efficient with local knowledge.

Thanks DG8368, interesting read. I'm glad everyone is getting into the assist, but I did have to giggle a bit after the 'Sure there are a lot of sportsmen with boats going about but Anarchists, yeah, totally there, totally organizing a response. Antifa:boots on the ground.'

It is the same advice we are giving here; don't just throw money at it, do your research. There are coyotes and vultures at every disaster.

3 officers shot in Sacramento, conditions unknown
[RT] Three coppers in Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party, have been shot, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department. Three suspects, two women and a man, were detained after a high-speed chase.

One sheriff's deputy and two California Highway Patrol officers were shot, according to the sheriff.

The shooting occurred near Fulton Avenue and Auburn Boulevard in the Arden-Arcade area of Sacramento, California, KOVR reported.

Sheriff's office front man Tony Turnbull told the local news channel that the sheriff's Auto Theft Task Force witnessed two women in the area get into a stolen vehicle at about 8am. Officers followed that vehicle to Elk Grove and detained the women, while additional officers served a search warrant at the Ramada Inn hotel in the 2600 block of Auburn Boulevard.

A suspect with a high-powered rifle reportedly opened fire on multiple officers from behind a hotel room door. Two CHP officers were shot first, before a sheriff's deputy was hit in the back of the hotel, from a room balcony, according to the sheriff's front man.

The suspected shooter was tossed in the clink

after leading Sacramento law enforcement on a high-speed pursuit in a gray Dodge Challenger, which crashed around 1pm near El Camino Avenue and Millrace Road, officials told KCRA.

The suspected shooter was shot by law enforcement at the crash site, the sheriff's front man confirmed.

At Least 18,500 Rohingya Flee to Bangladesh as Rakhine Unrest Rages
[AnNahr] At least 18,500 Rohingya have crossed into Bangladesh since fighting erupted in Myanmar's neighboring Rakhine state six days ago, the International Organization for Migration said Wednesday.

Plumes of smoke billowed from several burning villages in the worst-hit section of the state, according to an AFP news hound on a government-led trip to the area, as the violence showed little sign of abating despite security sweeps by Myanmar's police and troops.

The streets of Maungdaw -- northern Rakhine's largest town -- were virtually deserted as fires flickered among charred remains of houses and the occasional burst of gunfire echoed in the distance.

The festivities began on Friday after gunnies from Myanmar's Rohingya Moslem minority community staged deadly surprise raids on police posts.

At least 110 people, including 11 state officials, have been confirmed dead and thousands of Rohingya have poured across the border to Bangladesh despite Dhaka's attempts to stop them.

"As of last night, 18,500 people have come across," Chris Lom, the IOM's Asia-Pacific front man, told AFP, adding an unknown number were still stuck on the Myanmar side of the border.

Israel envoy hails ‘victory’ as UN expands Lebanon peacekeeping role
[IsraelTimes] UNIFIL given widened powers after US and Israeli called for it to do more to tackle Hezbollah arms buildup

The United Nations
...an organization conceived in the belief that we're just one big happy world, with the sort of results you'd expect from such nonsense...
extended the mandate of its peacekeeping mission in southern Leb Wednesday night, and gave its forces widened powers to address Hezbollah’s weapons buildup in the area.

As a result of the changes, which were approved by the UN Security Council, UNIFIL will increase its oversight activities in southern Leb, including by entering villages where the Hezbollah terror group operates.

The resolution highlights that UNIFIL has the authority to "take all necessary actions" in areas where its forces are deployed and must ensure that its area of operations is "not utilized for hostile activities of any kind."

Israel’s ambassador to the UN Danny Danon welcomed the decision, saying in a statement that "the resolution requires UNIFIL to open its eyes, and forces it to act against Hezbollah’s terror buildup in the area."

He described the resolution as "a victory for Israel."

The resolution came following complaints from Israel over the international body’s failure prevent Hezbollah from gaining strength.

La Belle France, a key player on the Security Council, argued that UNIFIL had succeeded in maintaining calm in south Leb, but the United States pushed for action by the mission against Hezbollah, which it accuses of stockpiling weapons and readying for war.
Thank you, President Trump. It is such a pleasure to be able to write that sincerely instead of with bitter sarcasm.
"Conditions in south Leb are very dangerous today. The clouds of war are gathering," US Ambassador Nikki Haley
...first woman to serve as Governor of South Carolina, and the second Indian-American governor in the country, after Bobby Jindal of Louisiana. At the age of 39, Haley is the youngest current governor in the U.S., a distinction formerly held by Jindal. She is a Republican, which really grates on the Dems...
told the council after the vote. "UNIFIL exists to help prevent war from happening again and it is supposed to do that."

The resolution also requests that UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres look at ways to increase UNIFIL’s visible presence, through patrols and inspections, but within its existing mandate.

"UNIFIL can, of course, do better and do more," said French Deputy Ambassador Anne Gueguen, but she stressed that the force was indeed keeping the peace. "No one in this council can imagine for one second the environment that would exist there without UNIFIL."

Rejecting the demands from the US and Israel for UNIFIL’s mission to be expanded, Leb had called for the peacekeeping force’s mandate to be renewed without changes.

Responding to the Wednesday vote, indeed, the Lebanese mission to the UN tweeted that the mandate had been extended "without changing."
For a given definition of unchanged, at any rate.
Set up in 1978, UNIFIL was beefed up after the 2006 war between Israel and Hezbollah, tasked with guaranteeing a ceasefire and Israeli withdrawal from a demilitarized zone on the Israeli-Lebanese border.

It now has 10,500 troops on the ground monitoring the ceasefire and helping the Lebanese government secure its borders.

bully boyz from the eastern border region, and has accordingly decided to halt its military support for Leb, a media report said on Wednesday.

Washington has decided to "cease military support to Leb and retrieve around 50 modern tanks that it had convinced Riyadh to pay for and supply to the Lebanese army to support it in its battle against terrorism," An Nahar newspaper said.

"These tanks deployed in several posts and took part strongly and effectively along with other weapons in the army's battle in the outskirts of al-Qaa and Ras Baalbek," the daily added.

The army had launched an unprecedented military offensive to oust IS bully boyz from the eastern border region on August 19. Separately but simultaneously, Hizbullah and the Syrian army began an assault to remove IS from the Syrian side of the border.

Simultaneous ceasefires were announced on both sides of the border on Sunday morning to allow for negotiations over the fate of nine Lebanese troops kidnapped by IS bully boyz in 2014.

The Lebanese army has insisted that it has not coordinated any move with Hizbullah or the Syrian army.

The Hizbullah-led agreement resulted in the recovery of nine bodies likely belonging to the captive troops, the evacuation of hundreds of IS bully boyz and their families from the Lebanese-Syrian border to eastern Syria, and the handover of a Hizbullah captive and several corpses to the Iran-backed group.

'Peanuts, not billions of dollars': Nisar assails Trump's claims of aid for Pakistan
[DAWN] Former interior minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan
...Currently the Interior Minister of Pakistain. He is the senior leader of the Pak Moslem League (N) and a close aide to Nawaz Uncle Fester Sharif. He is noted for his vocal anti-American railing in the National Assembly. However (comma) Khan told the U.S. ambassador that he was in fact pro-American but he and the PML-N would have to be critical of US actions in order to remain publicly credible. Khan cited his wife and children's US citizenship as proof, which means he's lying to one side or the other and probably both. He wears a wig, but you probably guessed that. since hair doesn't grow naturally in that shape or texture...

...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
, saying Pakistain was not responsible for the failure of US and its allies in Afghanistan.

Nisar also ridiculed Trump's claim that the US has paid "billions and billions of dollars" to Pakistain and called on the government to issue the record of the past 20 years to "expose" American claims.

"It's not billions of dollars, it's peanuts," the former interior minister said while addressing the National Assembly.

Nisar said that Coalition Support Fund payments from the US were for services rendered by Pakistain in the fight against terrorism.

He also criticised the US for dragging its feet in making payments from the military fund, adding: "If our bill [for military services] is $500 million, they [US] sit on it for months [...] and end up giving us $200 million."

"They have ruined our roads, our airspace and our country, but are not ready to pay for the expenses."

"Put your money where your mouth is," Nisar railed, adding that the US has been able to point fingers because Pakistain did not keep a proper record of American assistance.

Myanmar villages burn as military cracks down on militants
[DAWN] Smoke billowed from at least three burning villages in the remote section of Rakhine state where Myanmar's military is carrying out sweeps for Death Eaters, an AFP news hound saw on Wednesday.

The violence, which erupted six days ago after Rohingya bully boyz staged surprise raids on police posts, has shown little sign of abating, leaving at least 110 confirmed dead and sending thousands fleeing.

The displaced include ethnic Rakhine Buddhists and the persecuted Rohingya Moslem minority, thousands of whom have massed at the "zero line" border with Bangladesh which they are barred from crossing.

The bodies of two Rohingya women and two children washed up on Bangladeshi soil on Wednesday, an official there told AFP, as villagers took to rickety boats or tried to swim across a frontier river.

On Wednesday villagers in Rakhine continued to flee their homes.

A Rohingya villager near the town of Maungdaw, speaking on condition of anonymity
... for fear of being murdered...
, said residents fled his hamlet as security forces approached and torched their homes.

Dianne Feinstein on Trump: ‘He can be a good president’
[WASHINGTONTIMES] Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein
...Dem Senator-for-Life from Caliphornica. She has been a politician since about the time she was weaned. Feinstein was the author of the 1994 Federal Assault Weapons Ban, and tried it a second time in 2012. Feinstein has chaired the Select Committee on Intelligence since 2009. At age 80, Feinstein is the oldest currently serving United States Senator....

crowd Tuesday evening after she called for "patience" with President Trump, saying the president can do good for the country if he learns from his mistakes.

Ms. Feinstein made the comments during an hourlong conversation with former Rep. Ellen Tauscher at a sold-out Commonwealth Club event in Herbst Theater. According to several reports, Ms. Feinstein was on the receiving end of hisses and boos when she took a more diplomatic approach to discussing the president and whether he should resign or be impeached.

"I think we have to have some patience, I do," Ms. Feinstein, ranking member of the Judiciary Committee and a senior member on Intelligence, told the crowd. "It’s eight months into the tenure of the presidency ... We’ll have to see if he can forget himself and his feelings about himself enough to be able to have the empathy and direction that this country needs."

If he doesn’t, she said, "there are things that can be done." She added, however, that Mr. Trump would most likely serve out the rest of his term.

"This man is going to be president most likely for the rest of this term," Ms. Feinstein said. "I just hope he has the ability to learn and change. If he does, he can be a good president."

The San Francisco Chronicle reported that the crowd reacted to the comments with "stunned silence, broken only with scattered ’No’s’ and a few hisses and some nervous laughter."

Two leading Brotherhood figures among 296 names added to Egypt's terror list
[AlAhram] Egypt’s state gazette on Wednesday published the names of 296 individuals who have been added to the state's terror list by court order, including two leading members of the Moslem Brüderbund.

On 24 July, a Cairo criminal court ruled that the 296 people be added to the national terrorist list for three years, as they had all been found guilty of engaging in attacks or planning attacks on the state’s institutions and security forces.

Included in the judgement is Mahmoud Ezzat, the Moslem Brüderbund's deputy Supreme Guide, who fled Egypt in 2013 after a crackdown on the group.

Ezzat has been found guilty of planning terror attacks in Egypt while abroad.

The list also includes Ibrahim Mounir, the Brotherhood's secretary-general in London, who was likewise found guilty of planning attacks in Egypt from abroad.

In December 2013, the Egyptian government designated the Moslem Brüderbund a terrorist organization.

ATC reserves verdict on Benazir Bhutto murder case
[DAWN] An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Rawalpindi reserved its decision on the decade-old Benazir Bhutto
... 11th Prime Minister of Pakistain in two non-consecutive terms from 1988 until 1990 and 1993 until 1996. She was the daughter of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, founder of the Pakistain People's Party, who was murdered at the instigation of General Ayub Khan. She was murdered in her turn by person or persons unknown while campaigning in late 2007. Suspects include, to note just a few, Baitullah Mehsud, General Pervez Musharraf, the ISI, al-Qaeda in Pakistain, and her husband, Asif Ali Zardari, who shows remarkably little curiosity about who done her in...
murder case on Wednesday after the defence counsel concluded their arguments.

It is expected that the judgement will be announced at Rawalpindi's Adiala jail this week, as Judge Muhammad Asghar Ali Khan earlier said he would require two days to scrutinise and compile all the records.

In today's hearing, Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) prosecutor, Chaudhry Azhar, said that former president retired Gen Pervez Perv Musharraf
... former dictator of Pakistain, who was less dictatorial and corrupt than any Pak civilian government to date ...
─ declared "most wanted" in the case ─ could not appear before the court because he is under threat by the Al Qaeda.

Naseer Tanoli, the lawyer of Aitzaz Shah who is accused of helping and financing the attack, told the court that the FIA's investigation into the case is full of defects.

Tanoli observed that the FIA had not asked any of the suspects about when they were locked away
Youse'll never take me alive coppers!... [BANG!]... Ow!... I quit!
.

The FIA prosecutor argued that if there were discrepancies regarding the dates of the arrests of the suspects, the fault lies with the police, not the FIA.

Disgusting Politico Mocks Texas Flood Victims With Cartoon

[PacificPundit] As I said yesterday, the response to Hurricane Harvey has brought out the best in most Americans, regardless of party ID, color, race or creed. It has also brought up the ugliness of some who call themselves Americans from price gouging, to looting to out right mocking of suffering people. Left wing filth news sight Politico just displayed the ugly side of Harvey, with a cartoon mocking Texas flood victims. This is something you’d expect to see on Salon or something, but Politico proves to be no better.

Tit for tat: Seoul unveils missiles that may counter North Korea
[RT] South Korea has released dramatic footage of a missile test, conducted last week, showing the launch of two missiles, one with a 310-mile (500km) range and the other with a 500-mile (800km) range, which may counter North Korea.

The tests were the last ones before the deployment of the missiles, South Korea’s state-run Agency for Defense Development (ADD) said, as cited by Yonhap news agency.

The ADD said the missiles will serve as key elements in South Korea's pre-emptive strike scheme.

"Our military has the missile capability with top-level precision and power to strike any place in North Korea if necessary," the ADD said. "It will greatly reinforce missile forces and power down the road as well."

-Signs, Portents, and the Weather-
Houston Democrat Mayor Just Had to Make Things Political
[IJR] As horrible as Hurricane Harvey has been, there have been countless glimpses of the best of humanity following the disaster.

When KHOU 11 News news hound Brandi Smith spotted a trucker with his life in danger from the flooding, she flagged down police to rescue the man.

After Aransas Police Officer Jack McCarty saw an American flag about to fly away, he weathered the fierce elements to save it.

NFL superstar J.J. Watt was paying close attention to it all, too. In fact, as of Tuesday, Watt has helped raise over $1 million for flood victims.

Rescues are still underway, and the flooding hasn't ended. However,
Switzerland makes more than cheese...
while the spirit of unity stays alive, Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner (D) has decided to make things political.

How? Turner is pledging himself to represent any illegal immigrants colonists in court who might face deportation in Houston.

According to the Texas Tribune:

Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner on Monday morning sent a clear message to members of Houston's immigrant community who might fear seeking help during Hurricane Harvey because of their legal status.

"There is absolutely no reason why anyone should not call [for help]. And I and others will be the first ones to stand up with you," Turner, an attorney, said to news hounds. "If someone comes and they require help and then for some reason [someone] tries to deport them, I will represent them myself."

Sanctuary cities were outlawed in Texas after Gov. Greg Abbott (R) signed Senate Bill 4 into law in May. When Abbott signed the bill, he said, via Dallas News, "It simply makes sense. Citizens expect law enforcement officers to enforce the law, and citizens deserve lawbreakers to face legal consequences."

Turner, on the other hand, wants to put the law, which goes into effect September 1, on hold as rescue efforts continue. Though even after the dust settles, Turner hasn't shown any signs of goodwill toward the immigration law.

Sheila Jackson Lee: Lawmakers Should Pass $150B in Hurricane Harvey Aid
[PJMEDIA] Houston congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee
...the clownish U.S. Representative-for-life for Texas's 18th congressional district, serving since 1995. The district includes most of inner-city Houston. She is noted for her lack of tact and intellect. She is a member of the Democratic Party, and almost its epitome...
(D-Texas) said federal lawmakers should begin working on a Hurricane Harvey aid package worth about $150 billion, more than double the amount Hurricane Sandy needed five years ago.
U.S. population = 330m. That comes out to $454.54 for every man,
woman, gender indeterminate, and child.

Jackson Lee told CNN today that the funding to recover from the massive flooding is needed "because this not only includes the Houston Harris County area, which is 6 million in its metroplex, but all of our areas, such as Beaumont, that was hit last night, Victoria and Corpus and places in south Texas."

"We don't know where else Hurricane Harvey will come," she said. "And we understand it may turn back to Houston on tomorrow and the next day."

The confirmed death toll from the storm thus far is 15, including a family of six and a Houston police officer caught in the floodwaters.

The National Hurricane Center said today that Harvey, now a tropical storm, is moving north-northeast at a glacial 5 mph. "A general north-northeast track is expected today and tomorrow. On the forecast track, the center of Harvey is expected to be just offshore of the middle and upper coasts of Texas through tonight, then move inland over the northwestern Gulf coast early Wednesday," said their latest public advisory. "Maximum sustained winds remain near 45 mph (75 km/h) with higher gusts. No significant change in strength is expected before the center moves inland. A gradual weakening should begin thereafter."

UT fires teacher whose tweet blamed Harvey on Texas GOP vote
[TAMPABAY] A tweet suggesting that the devastation of Hurricane Harvey was "instant karma" for the red state of Texas has cost a University of Tampa professor his job — making him just the latest academic fired for off-duty speech.

The University first distanced itself from sociology professor Kenneth L. Storey on Monday. But a tide of online outrage continued. A #FireKenStorey hashtag spread far beyond the university. Angry Facebook comments piled up.

"Don't think this is a school we will be looking at for my daughter anymore," one commenter said. An alumnus wrote, "Good thing I already paid you, because I'll never send the school another dime again."

On Tuesday morning, the university fired him.

"We condemn the comments and the sentiment behind them, and understand the pain this irresponsible act has caused," spokesman Eric Cardenas said in a statement.

Storey told the Tampa Bay Times that, while saddened, he understands UT's decision. He got caught up in today's political climate, he said, and knows now that every 140-character post needs to be able to stand on its own.

"What they see in those tweets is not who I am," he said.
"I am somebody else."
"How I worded it was wrong. I care about people. I love this country.
"I didn't want to be fired. If I ever get another job I'll keep my mouth shut."
"I would never want to wish harm upon anyone."
"I am an asswipe."

-War on Police-
‘De-Policing' is Not Something Cops Do to Society, It's Something Society Does to Its Cops
[OpsLens] "I served as a police officer in one of the most pro-demonstrator, anti-cop cities in America, Seattle. "

De-policing, a phenomenon where officers avoid proactive patrol, including enforcing pedestrian violations, littering, and investigating suspicious people and circumstances, is occurring in many American cities. Officers do not wake up one morning and decide to de-police.

Circumstances, such as political and department leaders showing little or no support, force cops to alter their behavior and adopt a professional survival mode. Still, many politicians and law enforcement leaders deny de-policing exists. They don’t want to admit their "enlightened" social justice policies have any negative consequences.

I served as a police officer in one of the most pro-demonstrator, anti-cop cities in America, Seattle. I retired at least ten years sooner than I might have due to the social justice indoctrination disguised as law enforcement training infecting the department. I now also look at law enforcement through a "de-policing" lens. Meaning, does a policy compromise officer safety or the effectiveness of police officers to do their jobs properly?

In today’s anti-cop environment, leftist politicians, community activists, and their allies in the media are inundating people with the false narrative that police officers are wantonly shooting minorities for sport. There’s even a socialist Seattle city council member who continues to describe two Seattle police officers as murderers and racists despite a King County inquest jury having found they acted properly in a fatal shooting incident.

The two officers are now suing her for defamation. People like her caricature cops as corrupt thugs and draw a moral equivalence between criminals killed by cops and police officers murdered by criminals--as if it’s supposed to be a fair fight.

Officers need discretion to do the job effectively. In today’s anti-cop world, one leftist strategy is using politically motivated policies to usurp officer discretion. Consider policies mandating universal report taking and vehicle and body camera use. The cameras do have legitimate positives, but there are still practical negatives to consider regarding policies.

Cops have to wonder if agencies will use the videos to go on "fishing expeditions" to find officer "misconduct," even absent a complaint. Not true misconduct but actions that used to be, and still should be, within officer discretion? I’ve heard enough disturbing anecdotal evidence to believe this is happening. When superiors fish for officer violations, cops may feel forced to waste time taking unnecessary reports or effectively de-police.

Iraq
94 ISIS Turbans immolated in Iraqi airstrikes in Anbar

Anbar (IraqiNews.com) Iraqi army warplanes killed 94 Islamic State militants in Anbar on Wednesday, including a senior leader close to the group’s supreme commander, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, military media reported.
But not too close, right?
The War Media Cell said that the air force, using intelligence services information, bombarded six IS locations in the town of Qaim. Several group entrenchments were destroyed in the strike, leaving 94 members dead.

Those killed included Zafer (Abu Ayman) al-Rawi, a senior security commander, and Millat Hashem Farahat, a former commander in Tal Afar and a close aide to Baghdadi.

Islamic State militants are still holding the towns of Qaim, Rawa and Anna, in western Anbar, since 2014, when they occupied a third of Iraq to proclaim their self-styled “caliphate”.

Anyone else get constant ERR_BLOCKED_BY_XSS_AUDITOR when trying to post stories to Rantburg?
I can't post any more unless I pull out my Internet Explorer browser. It has to do with Chrome-based browsers refusing to accept POST requests for security reasons. Is Rantburg going to upgrade to fix the problem? Details at the link.

Comment 6 by dc3de...@gmail.com, Aug 10
This happens when you post to a forum system (e.g., vBulletin) and within your post, you refer to another post. This common practice has been made super-cumbersome. For example, ..." yes we were discussion this very thing last month in {hyperlink and title of another forum post} ..."

This needs to be dialed back. It obviously didn't get subjected to enough field testing ha ha.

Trying to duplicate this now... Hasn't worked so far...

I haven't been able to duplicate it. The explanation I've seen on a Google forum doesn't make my Chrome barf, maybe because I use Linux. I've never gotten that error in thousands of posts. The "workaround" fix involves leaving the Burg vulnerable to cross-server pollination (XSS), which I don't want to do.

Until recently, Chrome was my browser of choice. I've switched to Opera lately and I like it. We had parted ways ten years or so ago when a new release broke existing Rantburg code. It's been very well-behaved for me this time.

I started ditching Google when they fired that tech for being politically incorrect. Opera's good, and I've used Brave as well. I use Duck Duck Go in place of Google search. I'm not sure what I'm going to do about mail. Maintaining a mail server's always been a pain in the underwear for me, so I've been relying on Gmail.

I don't know what the alternatives' politix are. I don't want to know. If I've got to recognize seventy two genders and vote Democrat before I'm dead and feel guilty about being a white person I'll switch to something else.

Government
Acid flashback: CIA's mind-control experiment reverberates 40 years after hearings
[Wash Times] Forty years later, the story still seems hard to credit: In the summer of 1977, Capitol Hill was gripped by revelations of the CIA’s top-secret MK-Ultra mind control research program, targeting unsuspecting American citizens, in some cases by luring them to brothels to be fed LSD-laced cocktails.

The blockbuster hearings that summer, chaired by Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, Massachusetts Democrat, and aided by a timely dump of intelligence documents, touched some of the country’s rawest nerves: the assassination of Kennedy’s brothers, the possibility of mind-controlled "Manchurian candidates" and the increasing prominence of LSD and other hallucinogenic drugs across Western culture.

Although the CIA program officially ran from 1953 to 1964, its dark and fertile legacy stretches to today, living on in modern conspiracy theories about U.S. intelligence agencies’ ability and willingness to manipulate society through surveillance, disinformation, celebrity culture and strategic news leaks.

Security advocates argue that domestic intelligence-gathering is vital for the sake of homeland security. Critics counter that revelations that the CIA and the National Security Agency can hack into phones, computers and even televisions connected to the internet show their powers are still too great and threaten essential personal liberties and constitutional protections.

The 1977 MK-Ultra hearings first tilled similar suspicions and were considered a critical pivot in official and popular attitudes toward the nation’s intelligence community. Triggered in part by the shock of the Watergate scandal, they also revealed the U.S. government’s covert assassination programs and surveillance of American citizens brought to light by the Church Committee’s 1975 investigations of the FBI, CIA and NSA.

The August 1977 MK-Ultra hearings specifically explored what seemed like an outlandish idea straight out of science fiction: the possibility of government mind control.

Iraq
Why the battle against ISIS in Iraq's Tal Afar is ‘many times worse’ than Mosul
[RT] The Iraqi military is engaged in fierce fighting against Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
Death Eaters in the Tal Afar district, where bully boyz have fled from the city itself and remain holed up in the town of al-Ayadiya. As the operation enters its final stage, RT looks at what is making it so difficult.

"The gates of hell" is what Iraqi Colonel Kareem al-Lami calls the battle now facing Iraqi troops near Tal Afar, according to Rooters.

US-backed Iraqi troops lauded the almost complete liberation of the strategic town of Tal Afar, held for three years by Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIS), on August 27 after a week-long operation. However,
some men learn by reading. A few learn by observation. The rest have to pee on the electric fence for themselves...
the forces are currently struggling to defeat the bully boyz in the small town of al-Ayadiya a few miles north of Tal Afar, where the remaining Death Eaters continue to resist.

This last step towards the liberation of the district is even tougher than the battle for djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
, located some 60km to the east, Colonel al-Lami says. That operation took eight months and was finished in June.

"We thought the battle for Mosul’s Old City was tough, but this one proved to be multiple times worst," al-Lami told Rooters on Wednesday.

Diehard Death Eaters with nothing to lose
Hundreds of Death Eaters are reportedly holding the ground in al-Ayadiya. Their exact numbers remain unclear, and they are apparently some of the toughest fighters that IS has.

"Our intelligence shows that the most diehard ISIS [IS] fighters fled Tal Afar to al-Ayadiya," Lieutenant Colonel Salah Kareem said, as cited by Rooters. "We are facing tough fighters who have nothing to lose and are ready to die."

Those bully boyz who don't stand and fight attempt to flee the battle zone by hiding among displaced civilians on the run. At least 200 Death Eaters were found during security checks of 2,000 refugees, Iraqi news reports, citing the Kurdish Peshmerga, which is also fighting against IS in the area. Kurdish forces also killed 130 more Death Eaters on the way to Syria, Iraqi news reported on Tuesday.

Ruins filled with explosives
During their retreat from the city, IS bully boyz left behind deadly traps that have turned Tal Afar "into a sappers’ nightmare" as explosives could be hidden anywhere, RT correspondent Murad Gazdiev reported from the ground.

Schumer: Democrats Ready to ‘Fight' Republicans Over Tax Reform
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer
Senator-for-life from New York, renowned for his love of standing in front of cameras. Schumer has been a professional politician since 1975, when disco was in flower. Senate minority leader as of 2017.
(D., N.Y.) said Wednesday that Democrats are ready to fight with Republicans over tax reform legislation.

"This is going to be one of the biggest fights of the next three, four months, and Democrats are ready for it," Schumer told news hounds on a conference call held by a left-leaning group organized to oppose tax cuts for high earners, according to the Washington Examiner.

Earlier this month, 45 of 48 Senate Democrats signed a letter to President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
and GOP leaders demanding that they not support any bill that gives new breaks to the wealthiest Americans or adds to the deficit.

Schumer warned Wednesday that if the Republican tax reform plan lowers rates for the wealthy, "the American people are going to rise up against it."

His comments came the same day that Trump is traveling to Missouri to begin a public campaign for tax reform. Trump is expected to describe his plan as a benefit to middle-class workers that will create a more favorable tax system for American businesses to compete with global competitors.

Trump is seeking a simpler tax code, including middle-class tax cuts, to push for more job creation.

But Trump's chief economic adviser, Gary Cohn, said that the bulk of the responsibility is on Congress, not the president, to pass tax reform.

"At the end of the day, tax legislation has to happen in Congress and the House," Cohn told the Financial Times last week. "The Boodle Central will be drafting legislation and we will be on the road and holding meetings in Washington and elsewhere explaining why it is so important to have tax reform in America."

Rep. Kevin Brady (R., Texas), chairman of the House Boodle Central, has said that Trump will play an essential role in the legislative process to overhaul the country's tax system.

"You can't do this without presidential leadership," Brady said earlier this month. "My sense of President Trump, he's all in on tax reform."

Afghanistan
Fuel truck struck by Taliban rocket
Taliban insurgents fired a rocket at a fuel tanker on Tuesday night in northern Parwan province, officials confirmed Wednesday.

The rocket attack was followed up by gunfire, officials said.

The incident took place on the Parwan-North highway close to the Agriculture Department, the head of Parwan’s media office, Salem Noori said.

Residents claimed the highway was closed to traffic for hours as the tanker continued to burn for at least two hours.

The Taliban has not yet commented on the incident.

Europe
German Foreign Minister joins calls to withdraw US nukes from the country
[RT] Germany’s top diplomat has backed the suggestion of Social Democrat (SPD) leader and Chancellor hopeful Martin Schulz, who has pledged to rid his country of US nukes.
Okay. Bye.
He won't win, so it doesn't really matter what he says.
Washington, meanwhile, is pressing ahead to modernize its nuclear stockpile.

Sigmar Gabriel's remarks came at the end of his official visit to the US Wednesday.

"Certainly, I am convinced that it is important to finally talk again about the arms control and disarmament," Gabriel told the DPA news agency, as quoted by the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung newspaper.

#1  I agree with the man. We've lost enough baby sitting for the ungrateful. You'd be surprise the number of service members we've lost in training and vehicle accidents in the place. Somewhere around 1980, Western Europe passed the US in combined GDP and population. Like any welfare, its never ending. Time to follow the French model for NATO, keep some liaison personnel there, everyone else comes home. It's their problem.

#2  I disagree. Our military presence and 'trip wires' are needed everywhere! How can 'endless wars' continue if we do not participate ?

The Swiss model of minding one's own business, and letting the poor, ignorant bastids fight it out, how very boring.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Maniac yells ‘I hate white people,’ punches 84-year-old man on subway
[NYDAILYNEWS] An 84-year-old man was punched in the head by a subway psycho who said he hates white people, but the plucky victim says he’s taking it in stride and feels sorry for his attacker.

John Stewart was riding a Brooklyn-bound J train after boarding at Sutphin Blvd. in Jamaica on Aug. 23 at about 2:30 p.m. when, he said, he dropped his cane onto another straphanger’s legs.

"I was trying to hold my cane and the pole at the same time. Apparently my cane fell on his legs and that’s what upset him. But I don’t condemn him," he said.

As the train rolled into the Woodhaven Blvd. stop, the straphanger stood up and slammed him in the right side of the head.

"I hate white people and I hope they burn in hell!" the unhinged straphanger shouted.

"I’m not blaming him. I’m blaming the societies that put him in this situation. I think our society really has to get it together and ask real honest questions. There are a lot of hurting people out there," Stewart told the Daily News Tuesday.

#4  Blaming the "societies" has been the modus operandi for the last 50 years. How well has that worked out?

I get the impression that the vicitm's plea for "our society to get it together and ask real honest questions," has little, if anything, to do with personal responsibility and accountability.

Some people will never get it; even when it literally punches them in the face.

US ship shoots down missile with SM-6
[NYPOST] A US warship shot down a medium-range ballistic missile in a test off Hawaii on Wednesday ‐ as North Korean strongman Kim Jong Un vowed to forge ahead with more missile tests in the Pacific, officials said.

The USS John Paul Jones detected and tracked a missile launched from the Pacific Missile Range Facility on Kauai before intercepting it with SM-6 missiles, the US Missile Defense Agency said.

The interception comes after a previous failed test in June from the same guided missile destroyer, Fox News reported.

"We are working closely with the fleet to develop this important new capability, and this was a key milestone in giving our Aegis BMD ships an enhanced capability to defeat ballistic missiles in their terminal phase," MDA Director Lt. Gen. Sam Greaves said in a statement.

Palestinian wedding singer arrested for song praising Halamish attacker
[IsraelTimes] Israel has tossed in the clink
Keep yer hands where we can see 'em, if yez please!
a Paleostinian wedding singer after he performed a song about a terrorist who fatally stabbed three people in the settlement of Halamish, the Paleostinian Prisoners Club says.

The singer was among four Paleostinians arrested early Wednesday, three of whom perform in a band together, a spokeswoman says.

The army confirmed it arrested one person in Beit Rima, one in Kafr Ein and another in Kobar, the hometown of stabber Omar al-Abed.

Paleostinian media says the band, led by singer Mohammed al-Barghouti, had been singing about Abed, who stabbed to death three members of the Solomon family last month.

A video of the band performing the song, which praises Abed, has been posted on social media.

"Hey you, who asks about real men, you will find them in Kobar... Omar al-Abed is an earthquake who took Dire Revenge on behalf of al-Aqsa... he came from above the mountains carrying a knife on his side, and when he announced the clash, he made the Zionists lie on the ground... even if they detain my mother and my father, and demolish our home, we will never wear clothes of disgrace," the lyrics read, according to the Ma’an news agency.
