Bug Hunt
As Rantburg slowly returns to normal we will see bugs crop up from time to time. We will also see miscreants and spammers, and all sorts of various bad elements, and for those we request the regulars' help.

At the moment the o-club is open, but only through the main page, and o-club.org name. If you have complaints about anything amiss we request you make note of them there, as they will get our attention first.

If you Facebook you can go to Rantburg's Facebook page or my (badanov's) Facebook page. If you don't want to do that, there is always my gmail account (grurkka).

And as long as I am writing this, no TWIG this week. Too much crap being flung about to gain any sort of perspective on firearms. TWIG will return next week at its regularly scheduled time.

Africa Horn
3 dead, 10 injured in Grenade blasts in Marka
At least 3 people were killed, and 10 others wounded in twin grenade blasts in Somalia’s southern port city of Marka, some 100Km south of Mogadishu on Thursday.
At least long-time readers will know where that is...
The local residents reported loud explosions followed by sustained gunshots coming from parts of the city after assailants hurled grenades at Somali army barracks.

Somali security officials in the seaside town have immediately blamed the simultaneous deadly bomb attacks on the Al Qaeda-affiliated Al Shabaab militants. Al Shabaab lost the city’s control to SNA and AU troops in 2012, barely a year after the militants were driven out of Mogadishu, the conflict-riddled Somali capital.

Meanwhile, the Somali military officers have imposed a curfew on Marka following the explosions, in an attempt to beef up the security and prevent impending attacks, reports said.

Africa Subsaharan
Six killed in 'Boko Haram' suicide attack in NE Nigeria: Army
[AlAhram] Six people were killed on Friday when a jacket wallah went kaboom! at a mosque in Damboa, northeast Nigeria
... a particularly crimson stretch of Islam's bloody border...
, the army said, in the latest violence to hit the restive region.

Nigerian Army front man Colonel Sani Usman said the attack happened at about 5:15 am (0415 GMT) in the town of Damboa, some 90 kilometres (56 miles) southwest of the Borno state capital, Maiduguri.

He blamed the attack on "two Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
terrorists".

"The first suicide bomber targeted Damboa Central Mosque but due to stringent security measures he could not gain entry. Obviously frustrated, he went kaboom! and died near the central mosque," he added.

"However,
the man who has no enemies isn't anybody and has never done anything...
the second bomber veered off and gained entry into another smaller mosque and detonated the bomb, killing himself and six other worshippers and injuring one other person.

"The maimed have been evacuated to a hospital while efforts are on to clear the rubble. Troops and other security agencies have been mobilised to the area."

The attack is the latest against a mosque in northeast Nigeria and the wider Lake Chad region, as part of a campaign of violence by the Islamist group against civilian "soft" targets.

On June 27, two would-be suicide bombers were killed in Maiduguri, as they tried to target an overnight Ramadan vigil at a mosque on the Damboa Road.

Three days later, at least 10 people were killed in the town of Djakana, in northern Cameroon
...a long, narrow country that fills the space between Nigeria and Chad on the northeast, CAR to the southeast. Prior to incursions by Boko Haram nothing ever happened there...
near the Nigerian border, when a suicide bomber went kaboom!.

On July 4, the Nigerian Army said it thwarted an attempted suicide kaboom by three women against people displaced by Boko Haram in Monguno, northeast of Maiduguri.

There has been a relative lull in attacks, as troops regain control of territory once held by Boko Haram, whose fighters have been pushed into remote rural areas towards Lake Chad.

Usman said suspected Boko Haram fighters also attacked the village of Gaskeri, near the sprawling internally displaced people's camp at Dalori, outside Maiduguri, on Thursday night.

"They killed three civilian vigilantes and looted foodstuffs. Troops have been mobilised and they are on the suspected terrorists' trail," he added.

Arabia
12 Pakistanis, seven Saudis arrested following Madina blast
[DAWN] Saudi Arabia identified on Thursday suspects in two of the three attacks that struck the kingdom on the same day this week, including one outside the sprawling mosque where the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is buried in the western city of Madina that killed four Saudi security troops.

In a statement released by the Interior Ministry late Thursday, authorities said the Madina bomber in Monday's apparently coordinated attacks was 26-year-old Saudi national Na'ir al-Nujiaidi al-Balawi.

Three suicide bombers behind a botched attack, also Monday, outside a Shia mosque in the eastern region of Qatif in which no civilians or police were wounded, were identified as Abdulrahman Saleh Mohammed, Ibrahim Saleh Mohammed and Abdelkarim al-Hesni, all in their early 20s.

It was not immediately clear what nationality or nationalities the three carried.

The ministry said investigations following the attacks led to the arrests of 19 suspects, seven Saudi and 12 Pakistani nationals. No other details were immediately available.

On Tuesday, Saudi Arabia identified the suicide bomber who struck outside the US Consulate in Jeddah as a Pakistani resident of the kingdom who had arrived 12 years ago to work as a driver. It named him as 34-year-old Abdullah Gulzar Khan. It said he lived in the port city with "his wife and her parents." The statement did not elaborate.

In that attack, the bomber detonated his explosives after two security guards approached him, killing himself and lightly wounding the guards, the ministry said. No consular staff were hurt. No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attacks but their nature and their apparently coordinated timing suggested the militant Islamic State (IS) group could be to blame.

Pakistan has condemned Monday's attacks in the kingdom. There are around 9 million foreigners living in Saudi Arabia, which has a total population of 30 million. Among all foreigners living in the kingdom, Pakistanis represent one of the largest groups.

The Saudi ministry said the attacker in the Madina assault set off the bomb in a parking lot after security officers became suspicious about him. Several cars caught fire and thick plumes of black smoke were seen rising from the site of the explosion as thousands crowded the streets around the mosque.

Worshippers expressed shock that such a prominent holy site could be targeted. The Prophet Muhammad's mosque was packed on Monday evening, during the final days of the Muslim holy month of Ramazan, which ended on Tuesday. Local media say the attacker was intending to strike the mosque when it was crowded with thousands gathered for the sunset prayer.

Saudi Arabia is part of the US-led coalition fighting IS in Iraq and Syria, and the militant group views its ruling monarchy as an enemy.

The kingdom has been the target of multiple attacks by the group that have killed dozens of people. In June, the Interior Ministry reported 26 terror attacks in the last two years.

Germany arrests Pakistani accused of spying for Iran
[DAWN] German authorities have jugged
... anything you say can and will be used against you, whether you say it or not...
a Pak man accused of spying for Iran on the former head of a group that promotes German-Israeli relations.

Federal prosecutors said Thursday that the 31-year-old, identified only as Syed Mustufa H. in keeping with German privacy rules, was arrested on Tuesday in the northern city of Bremen.

They said in a statement that he was "in contact with an intelligence unit attributed to Iran," without elaborating. He is alleged to have spied on the former head of the German-Israeli Society and people close to him, among others, and handed over information to Iran in October.

The ex-head of the German-Israeli group, former politician Reinhold Robbe, told the Bild newspaper that he wasn't surprised by the alleged espionage and he "will not be intimidated."

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Missed during the first outage: Trio of Palestinian dentists arrested for pipe bomb attack
[IsraelTimes] Blast that severely injured IDF officer in May was triggered by cellphone; Shin Bet finds 59 additional bombs

Three Paleostinian dentists, a nurse and one other man were tossed in the slammer
Yez got nuttin' on me, coppers! Nuttin'!
for allegedly carrying out a pipe kaboom that seriously injured an IDF officer at the entrance to the Paleostinian village of Hizme last month, the Shin Bet security service revealed Sunday.

On the night of May 10 -- just after the start of Israel’s Memorial Day -- the Israeli patrol was struck by an improvised bomb, composed of four pipe bombs, which exploded next to Lt. Shachar Roditi’s face, severely wounding him.

The five terror cell members were arrested in the days following the attack, the Shin Bet said, but details of the case were kept under a gag order until Sunday.

Dr. Samer Mahmoud Daoud al-Halabiyeh, a dentist from Abu Dis outside of Jerusalem, is believed to be the operation’s ringleader, who both placed and detonated the pipe bombs that hit Roditi.

During their investigation, Israeli forces also uncovered 59 additional bombs that were allegedly created in order to carry out future attacks, the Shin Bet said.

Halabiyeh, 36, told interrogators he began planning the attack in February because of the "desecration of Al-Aqsa and the Paleostinian children injured by Israel," the Shin Bet says in a statement.

Along with Halabiyeh, who is believed to have set off the bomb with his cellphone, the Shin Bet and the army’s undercover Duvdevan Unit arrested four other Paleostinians who are suspected of having helped Halabiyeh in his attack and during its aftermath, the security service says.

His brother, Dr. Daoud Shehadeh Mahmoud al-Halabiyeh, and his cousin Shadi Muhammad Ahmad Muhsen were arrested for allegedly bringing the IEDs used in the attack from Halabiyeh’s dental practice, the Shin Bet said.

Halabiyeh’s 64-year-old father, Mahmoud Aauod Shehadeh al-Halabiyeh, who works as a nurse in a local hospital, was also arrested on suspicion that he tried to remove evidence from the clinic, the security service said.

Dr. D’jana Faiz Jamil Nab’han, 36, from the Qalandiya refugee camp was also arrested for assisting Halabiyeh in his crime, though the Shin Bet did not elaborate on his role.

Israeli forces also recovered dozens of other bombs from Halabiyeh’s dental practice, which they believe were going to be used in future attacks.

Fifty-six small pipe bombs, two Molotov cocktails and a large U-shaped pipe bomb were discovered in the clinic. Some were already prepared with fuses and one was connected to a cellphone, the Shin Bet said.

"According to the assessments of professionals, these were bombs that were potentially lethal," the service said in a statement.

Lt. Roditi suffered severe wounds to the face and upper body as a result of the attack. Doctors from Jerusalem’s Hadassah Hospital operated on the young officer for over 12 hours after the attack to remove shrapnel and repair some of the damage caused by the blast.

Roditi left the hospital on May 23 to recover at home.

Seen Paleos from the Plaque Mines Perish
On a vaycay to NOLA, Tovarish
Through the French Quarter they strolled
And were ever too bold
In their quest for their chocolate fetish.

#2  Didn't floss properly? Have you seen some of those Islamic teeth? You'd need explosives to dislodge the plaque!

Cops arrest 500 unauthorized Palestinian workers in S.Israel this year
[IsraelTimes] In crackdown on West Bank residents entering Israel illegally, Southern District Police shutters factories, confiscates vehicles

Israel Police officers from the Southern District have tossed in the calaboose
Youse'll never take me alive coppers!... [BANG!]... Ow!... I quit!
hundreds of Paleostinians who entered the country without legal work permits since the beginning of the year, according to new figures released Wednesday.

Police have also detained dozens of Israeli employers who hired the workers, and temporarily shuttered two factories in the south.

In light of the ongoing spate of terror attacks that have struck Israel over the past nine months, police have been cracking down on West Bank Paleostinians sneaking into Israel to work without the requisite permits, as a number of attacks have been carried out by such individuals.

"This action presents a meaningful component in thwarting terror attacks," the police said in a statement.

Since January, officers in the Southern District have arrested approximately 500 Paleostinians, along with 25 employers and 35 Israeli nationals who transported them, the department said.

Officers in the rest of the country have arrested hundreds more. In March, the Israel Police said its officers had detained some 1,200 Paleostinians who had entered Israel illegally over the course of five months.

"Indictments have been filed against the majority of the [Paleostinians] -- more than 90 percent -- for crimes related to entering Israel," the police said.

In addition, 33 vehicles have been impounded and two factories -- a chicken processing facility in Segev Shalom and a concrete block manufacturer in Tel Sheva -- were shut down for 30 days in a punitive measure under an amended law passed earlier this year that allows for harsher punishments to be meted out to those who help people enter Israel illegally.

"The decision to close a factory is serious, dramatic and grave. On the one hand, there is the growing involvement of Paleostinians who enter Israel illegally in dangerous terrorist activities that endanger public safety, while on the other hand there is the economic damage of shutting a plant that employs workers on a daily basis," police said.

Hmmm... sounds like an idea we could use.

#2  Yes, but it would only have a minor impact on the so-called 'anchor baby' problem.

Jordanian man attacks Israeli car, assaults driver near Kinneret, is shot
[IsraelTimes] Woman suffers minor injuries, assailant shot in leg by security; unclear how suspect crossed border, or what his motives were

An Israeli woman was injured while driving on Route 90 when her car was struck by a stone and she was allegedly attacked by a Jordanian citizen Friday morning.

Rotem Aharoni, 23, was driving on the north-south highway just south of the Sea of Galilee when her vehicle was pelted and she crashed into a guardrail.

After she came to a halt, a man leaped from the bushes and assaulted her, apparently trying to remove her from the vehicle, police said.

A passerby’s appearance on the scene prompted the suspect to flee the scene. After a nearly two-hour manhunt, a member of a nearby security detail fired on the suspect and struck him in the leg. Police then apprehended the man, who was identified as a Jordanian citizen in his mid-20s.

Aharoni suffered minor injuries and the suspect suffered moderate to serious injuries, Magen David Adom said. Both were taken to Poriya Hospital, near Tiberias, for treatment.

Israeli authorities were investigating how the assailant crossed the border into Israel. Police later said that a preliminary investigation found that the Jordanian man was mentally unstable and threw rocks at the car in a failed attempt

to make it stop and steal it.

15 civilians dead in strikes on Syria rebel town: Monitor
[AlAhram] A child was among at least 15 civilians killed in air strikes on a rebel-held town in northwestern Syria on Friday, a monitoring group said.

Around 40 people were also maimed in the strikes on the town of Darkush, near the Turkish border, which is held by Al-Qaeda affiliate Al-Nusra Front and allied rebel groups, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

The Britannia-based monitor had no immediate word on who carried out the strikes but said it was likely to have been either the Syrian government or its ally Russia, rather than the US-led coalition.

Syrian Army Targets Terrorists in Qalamoun Barrens
[ENGLISH.ALMANAR.LB] The Syrian army launched a rocketry and artillery attack against the terrorist groups in Sabna and Rankous barrens in Qalamoun in Damascus countryside, killing or injuring many of them and destroying a number of their vehicles.

A Syrian army unit foiled an attack by ISIL terrorists on a number of military posts in Homs eastern countryside, according to SANA which added that in the neighboring Hama province, an army unit targeted gatherings and movements of ISIL terrorists near Aqareb dam in the eastern countryside.

In Aleppo northern countryside, the Syrian army and allies continued pressing the terrorists on Castello road in preparation for regaining control over it.

The Syrian army and allies had controlled militarily the only supply route to the terrorists.

Al-Manar correspondent reported that the terrorists exchanged accusations on the responsibility of their defeat, circulating rumors about their field progress in the city.

Al-Manar refuted their claims by shooting Ramousa strategic highway which the terrorists had alleged that they controlled.
